Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: It's podcast. Welcome to Meet Eater Trivia, the only game
- 0:12Speaker 1: show where conservation always wins. I'm your host, Spencer new Arth,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and today we're joined by Jannis Boutellis, Brody Henderson, Maggie Smith, Hayden,
- 0:21Speaker 1: samck Seth, Morris, Randall Williams, and Rick Horton and a
- 0:25Speaker 1: very special welcome.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Quick questions up when you how do you decide on
- 0:31Speaker 2: the order?
- 0:32Speaker 1: Third time this has been asked me.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Here?
- 0:36Speaker 1: It's often a combination looking at the invite about who's
- 0:38Speaker 1: been invited first, sometimes alphabetical order. Sometimes the people end
- 0:43Speaker 1: up playing aren't on the invie yet because we have
- 0:45Speaker 1: others that drop out. I'll tell you this, Yanni. Usually
- 0:49Speaker 1: the headliner gets the first name, so it's usually a Steve,
- 0:52Speaker 1: A Yannie, A cal a Clay. After that, it's random.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Appreciate that satisfy what you're looking for?
- 0:59Speaker 2: You think Brody Champion would be up to?
- 1:03Speaker 4: What headliner are you talking about?
- 1:04Speaker 5: Broke?
- 1:05Speaker 1: Brody was second, Brody is the second headline. Plus Brody's
- 1:08Speaker 1: here almost every episode every time I'm in this room
- 1:10Speaker 1: for trivia, Brody's here at this point.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Yeah, you put me on the invite. You can stop
- 1:15Speaker 4: inviting me.
- 1:16Speaker 1: How do you think that would go over? Brody?
- 1:18Speaker 3: Do better for everyone else?
- 1:21Speaker 4: I got other things that could be doing and whipping
- 1:23Speaker 4: everyone's ass.
- 1:24Speaker 3: That's right. Now.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Each week here on Trivia we reveal a new stand.
- 1:29Speaker 1: This week we're updating our donation tracker. As of last episode,
- 1:33Speaker 1: we surpassed over thirty thousand dollars in conservation organization donations.
- 1:39Speaker 1: These donations, from Meat Eat to Trivia have been spread
- 1:41Speaker 1: out across thirty one different groups. Brody, are people bugging
- 1:46Speaker 1: you yet to get you to donate to their organizations?
- 1:49Speaker 1: Steve suggest that should be a thing that they should
- 1:51Speaker 1: I get some inquiries.
- 1:52Speaker 5: Uh huh?
- 1:53Speaker 1: And does that work? Not yet?
- 1:55Speaker 4: Well, I mean, like, sure it'll work if it's something
- 1:58Speaker 4: I think that's, you know, worth donating to.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Okay, thirty thousand dollars so far, butter up, Brody, and
- 2:05Speaker 1: maybe your donation will get one of those five hundred
- 2:07Speaker 1: dollars donations. Now here's our zero percent of question of
- 2:11Speaker 1: the week, which tests how much knowledge players have retained
- 2:14Speaker 1: from previous games. This question was from episode three sixty five.
- 2:18Speaker 1: The topic was cooking, and nobody got it right. If
- 2:22Speaker 1: you order fried cooter from a restaurant, what kind of
- 2:26Speaker 1: animal are you eating?
- 2:28Speaker 3: Fish? No, I wasn't here. I wasn't here either that question.
- 2:33Speaker 1: I will take a guess here. If you order fried
- 2:36Speaker 1: cooter from a restaurant, what kind of animal are you eating?
- 2:39Speaker 1: It is not fish?
- 2:40Speaker 3: Gator?
- 2:41Speaker 5: No, damn?
- 2:43Speaker 1: Anybody else have a guess? Rabbit, no, powsume no no.
- 2:48Speaker 1: The incorrect answers given in that episode were gator, crab, pig, quail, raccoon,
- 2:55Speaker 1: and rabbit. The correct answer was turtle or soft shelter.
- 3:01Speaker 1: So if you go to a restaurant down south and
- 3:03Speaker 1: you order yourself some fried cooter, you're going to get turtle.
- 3:08Speaker 1: We have some housekeeping to get to. In a previous
- 3:10Speaker 1: game of trivia, I asked players to name three of
- 3:13Speaker 1: the nine states that the Trail of Tears passes through.
- 3:16Speaker 1: But when I read the answer, I made a mistake
- 3:19Speaker 1: and forgot to include Arkansas on that list. Well, thankfully,
- 3:23Speaker 1: thirty six different listeners wrote in to let me know
- 3:26Speaker 1: about that error. So to clarify, the nine states are Alabama, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Missouri,
- 3:33Speaker 1: North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Arkansas.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Was Clay knucom one of those people.
- 3:39Speaker 1: No, he wasn't, but a lot of folks wrote in
- 3:40Speaker 1: saying Clay would be very disappointed that I missed Arkansas.
- 3:44Speaker 3: Would that changed the results of that game?
- 3:46Speaker 1: Now, a few players had Arkansas as one of their
- 3:48Speaker 1: three states, but only Seth listed it with two other
- 3:52Speaker 1: correct answers, So Seth deserves to get that question right,
- 3:56Speaker 1: but it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game. Wow,
- 4:00Speaker 1: well done, So who won that game?
- 4:01Speaker 3: Thanks?
- 4:02Speaker 1: I don't remember I had said, oh, sorry, what do
- 4:05Speaker 1: you got?
- 4:06Speaker 3: Well?
- 4:06Speaker 6: I had somebody reach out to me on Instagram in
- 4:09Speaker 6: a comment asking totally unrelated to the video if I
- 4:13Speaker 6: could please get in touch with you to ford that
- 4:15Speaker 6: because he had not gotten back to him. So I'm
- 4:17Speaker 6: sure they're satisfied now.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Plenty, Yeah, plenty of folks made sure that I knew
- 4:21Speaker 1: I forgot Arkansas. Also, on a previous show, we speculated
- 4:25Speaker 1: about if state game agencies get paid to make shows
- 4:29Speaker 1: like Northwood's Law and Lone Star Law. Well, according to
- 4:33Speaker 1: a twenty seventeen article about this series, New Hampshire did
- 4:37Speaker 1: not get paid, but the production company did make a
- 4:41Speaker 1: two thousand dollars donation per episode to the New Hampshire
- 4:45Speaker 1: Wildlife Heritage Foundation. So to answer the question, no, those
- 4:50Speaker 1: game agencies do not get compensated. But the production company
- 4:54Speaker 1: was making a nice conservation donation.
- 4:57Speaker 3: That's nice.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Now the Shelby Index for today's is four and a half,
- 5:01Speaker 1: so our winner should get nine correct answers. And with
- 5:04Speaker 1: that we're onto the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil, Look.
- 5:10Speaker 7: I need to know what I stand and win everything.
- 5:15Speaker 3: How's that? Just tend to win everything? Demon Suckers?
- 5:27Speaker 1: Question one? The topic is hunting. Which of these two
- 5:33Speaker 1: legendary hunters were alive at the same time, is it
- 5:38Speaker 1: Eldo Leopold and Jim Shockey, danielle Boone and Buffalo Bill Cody,
- 5:44Speaker 1: Ernest Hemingway and Davy Crockett or Teddy Roosevelt and Fred Baer.
- 5:51Speaker 1: These are pairs. Just so everybody understands, these are pairs
- 5:54Speaker 1: of hunters together. You need to tell me which pair
- 5:57Speaker 1: was alive at the same time. Eldo Leopold and Jim Shockey,
- 6:02Speaker 1: Daniel Boone and Buffalo Bill Cody, Ernest Hemingway and Davy
- 6:06Speaker 1: Crockett or Teddy Roosevelt and Fred Baer. Two of those
- 6:11Speaker 1: people were alive at the same time. A stumped room.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Looks like some folks are maybe doing some math. Yanni,
- 6:21Speaker 1: how do you feel about your answers?
- 6:22Speaker 3: It has come straight from your brain.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Straight from my brain. How do you feel about your answer? Mmm?
- 6:28Speaker 2: Like often I feel like I have a good guess.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Does anybody feel confident?
- 6:32Speaker 5: Like?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I know it?
- 6:36Speaker 3: No?
- 6:36Speaker 1: No, does everybody have an answer?
- 6:40Speaker 3: I don't want to change mine? Now, everybody's in the game.
- 6:44Speaker 5: You keep flashing me, and I'm trying to be honest here,
- 6:46Speaker 5: so you change put it down.
- 6:49Speaker 3: You don't want to, you don't want to look at that.
- 6:50Speaker 5: B're not gonna cheat off from a fail.
- 6:52Speaker 1: But does everybody have an answer?
- 6:54Speaker 5: Makes me feel better?
- 6:57Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Randall saying
- 7:02Speaker 1: Roosevelt and fred Beher, Seth saying Roosevelt and Fred Bher,
- 7:07Speaker 1: Brody sang tr and fb, Rick sang Leopold and Shocky
- 7:12Speaker 1: Hayden crossed out B and wrote down D witches Roosevelt
- 7:17Speaker 1: and Bear, Marge saying Daniel Boone and Buffalo Bill Giannis
- 7:21Speaker 1: sang Eldo and Jim. The correct answer is Teddy, Roosevelt
- 7:27Speaker 1: and Fred Bher.
- 7:29Speaker 4: I thought you had it honest.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Leopold died in nineteen forty eight and Shocky was born
- 7:34Speaker 1: in nineteen fifty seven, so they missed each other by
- 7:37Speaker 1: eleven years. Boone died in eighteen twenty and Buffalo Bill
- 7:41Speaker 1: was born in eighteen forty six, so they missed each
- 7:44Speaker 1: other by twenty six years. Crockett died in eighteen thirty
- 7:47Speaker 1: six and Hemingway was born in eighteen ninety nine, so
- 7:51Speaker 1: they missed each other by sixty three years. Roosevelt died
- 7:55Speaker 1: in nineteen nineteen and Fred Beher was born in nineteen
- 7:58Speaker 1: oh two, so they shared the earth for seventeen years.
- 8:03Speaker 7: Great question, Great question, Thank.
- 8:05Speaker 3: You, questions die.
- 8:07Speaker 1: When did Fred Baer die? I don't have that reason.
- 8:11Speaker 4: Like in the eighties, he lived.
- 8:13Speaker 1: He was born in nineteen oh two, so if he
- 8:15Speaker 1: made it to eighty, it made it to nineteen eighty two.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Question two, The topic is public lands. Name four of
- 8:22Speaker 1: the five colors that the Forest Service uses on their
- 8:27Speaker 1: fire danger scale signs. Name four of the five colors
- 8:35Speaker 1: that the Forest Service uses on their fire danger scale.
- 8:39Speaker 4: Sign said, is right, Mike, he knows the answer.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Do you know the answer? Set?
- 8:45Speaker 3: Maybe?
- 8:46Speaker 1: Okay? He worked on fire crew Oh set an advantage here.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Yeah, but I mean everyone in here passes those signs.
- 8:54Speaker 3: Oh yeah, a very confident room, probably like once a week.
- 8:57Speaker 7: But I'm driving, so I'm looking at my phone.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Like that. That's funny, folks, Quick to answer again. I
- 9:07Speaker 1: need you to name four of the five colors that
- 9:09Speaker 1: the Forest Service uses on their fire danger scale signs.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Seth the man who has worked on a fire crew.
- 9:18Speaker 1: We're waiting on him.
- 9:21Speaker 3: Rick worked for the for Service.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Yeah, dang, Rick, are you gonna get this one right?
- 9:24Speaker 3: I think so?
- 9:25Speaker 5: But if you no, I should know.
- 9:32Speaker 1: Seth, we're waiting on you. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 9:39Speaker 1: We have Randall with an upside down answer. He says green, yellow, orange, red,
- 9:43Speaker 1: Seth saying red, yellow, green, orange, Brody saying red, orange, green, yellow,
- 9:49Speaker 1: Rick saying red, orange, yellow, green, Hayden saying green yellow.
- 9:55Speaker 1: What's that say? Orange, orange and red, Marge saying green, yellow, orange, red,
- 10:03Speaker 1: Yiannis saying yellow, green, red, blue. The five colors are green, blue, yellow, orange,
- 10:11Speaker 1: and red. I think everybody got it right.
- 10:15Speaker 7: Great job.
- 10:15Speaker 1: If you had the name all five does does the
- 10:17Speaker 1: room think they could have got the fifth color?
- 10:19Speaker 3: Was blue?
- 10:20Speaker 4: One?
- 10:20Speaker 3: The fifth color? Yeah, yeah, no, I put that on it.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Here is what those colors mean on the fire danger scale.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Green means low, blue means moderate, yellow means high, orange
- 10:32Speaker 1: means very high, and red means extreme. Smokeyzone dot com
- 10:37Speaker 1: actually sells official Forest Service fire danger signs on their website.
- 10:42Speaker 1: You can get a standard one sided sign for six
- 10:45Speaker 1: hundred and forty dollars or a two sided sign that
- 10:48Speaker 1: includes a six foot tall smoky bear standing next to
- 10:51Speaker 1: it for two thou seven hundred dollars.
- 10:55Speaker 7: Is that Smokeyzone dot com?
- 10:57Speaker 1: Smoky Zone dot com.
- 11:00Speaker 4: I wonder what they're basing those prices on. What do
- 11:03Speaker 4: you mean, like, why are they so damn expensive royalties?
- 11:06Speaker 1: Those are some big signs. That's why you all got
- 11:08Speaker 1: it right. You see them so often. They're so dang big.
- 11:12Speaker 1: Question three The topic is conservation. This next great question
- 11:15Speaker 1: comes to us via dusted Long. If you have a
- 11:17Speaker 1: question you think is right for meat Eater Trivia, you
- 11:19Speaker 1: can send it to trivia at the meadeater dot com.
- 11:22Speaker 1: This National Park, which is located in North Carolina, claims
- 11:27Speaker 1: to be the most biodiverse national park in America.
- 11:31Speaker 4: What was the category I wasn't listening?
- 11:33Speaker 1: Conservation? This National Park, which is located in North Carolina,
- 11:39Speaker 1: claims to be the most biodiverse national park in America.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Pretty confident room No minus Seth, Hayden, you look like
- 11:57Speaker 1: you have this one right.
- 12:01Speaker 6: If you want, I can revisit this afterwards. I have
- 12:04Speaker 6: some thoughts on it.
- 12:05Speaker 1: But maybe, Manda, do you have this one right? I
- 12:07Speaker 1: think so, Yanni hasn't.
- 12:09Speaker 2: I can't think of national park in North Carolina.
- 12:12Speaker 1: This National Park, which is located in North Carolina, claims
- 12:16Speaker 1: to be the most biodiverse national park in America.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Do you know, Rick, I feel like it's something you know.
- 12:26Speaker 5: No, I don't feel that coffee. I might might get it,
- 12:29Speaker 5: but I just hope the thing.
- 12:32Speaker 4: The claims part of this is.
- 12:34Speaker 1: That like according to who, according to the National Park Service,
- 12:38Speaker 1: This National Park's website says.
- 12:40Speaker 5: That Brodie I think has a good point there at
- 12:43Speaker 5: the claims, because I think it's oh, you shouldn't say,
- 12:46Speaker 5: don't give anything. I would be an answer to be
- 12:49Speaker 5: a hint.
- 12:49Speaker 3: But Mike.
- 12:51Speaker 1: On this park's website, it says we are the most
- 12:54Speaker 1: biodiverse national park in America. Does everybody have an answer
- 12:59Speaker 1: on your phone?
- 13:01Speaker 3: Hayden, something written down? I want to call it. Answer.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 13:06Speaker 1: You ready, Yanni, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 13:10Speaker 1: have Randall saying great Smoky Mountains, Seth saying great Smoky Mountains,
- 13:15Speaker 1: Brody saying smoky Mountain, Rick saying great Smoky Mountain, Hayden
- 13:19Speaker 1: saying dunes, Marge saying smoky mountain, Jannis saying blue mountain.
- 13:25Speaker 1: We have a correct answer. Noo, it's Great Smoky Mountains
- 13:29Speaker 1: National Park. Are we going to give it to Brody?
- 13:32Speaker 4: You do what's in your heart?
- 13:33Speaker 1: He's missing the word great.
- 13:36Speaker 4: Marge the same thing.
- 13:37Speaker 3: Oh I didn't have great on mine too, But okay,
- 13:39Speaker 3: we'll give it to you. You get it.
- 13:40Speaker 1: If you put smoky mountain, we will give it to you.
- 13:43Speaker 1: We will say the great does not matter.
- 13:46Speaker 5: Yeah, give it to break because I had great smoky
- 13:48Speaker 5: and no mountain. Okay, that's very honest of you.
- 13:52Speaker 7: Great, I had great Smoky Mountain.
- 13:57Speaker 1: The Great Smoky Mountains National is both in both Tennessee
- 14:02Speaker 1: and North Carolina. They claim to be home to over
- 14:05Speaker 1: nineteen thousand species of animals, plants, and fungi. Scientists speculate
- 14:10Speaker 1: there are an additional eighty thousand species that live there,
- 14:14Speaker 1: but haven't yet been documented, Yanni with the person who
- 14:18Speaker 1: has family in North Carolina, how do you feel about
- 14:20Speaker 1: not coming up with the correct answer.
- 14:22Speaker 2: Well, see, we always land in you know, Wilmington and
- 14:26Speaker 2: Raleigh and go pretty much due southeast, not.
- 14:30Speaker 3: In that direction.
- 14:31Speaker 1: Okay.
- 14:31Speaker 2: So I knew there was Smoky Mountains, I didn't know
- 14:35Speaker 2: they were a National park.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Question for the topic is fishing. What's the name for
- 14:42Speaker 1: the legendary cicada hatch that happens every seventeen years, which
- 14:47Speaker 1: last took place in twenty twenty one.
- 14:51Speaker 6: I'm assuming it's not the legendary cicada hatch.
- 14:54Speaker 1: What's the name for the legendary cicada hatch that happens
- 14:58Speaker 1: every seventeen years, which last took place in twenty twenty one.
- 15:03Speaker 1: The room is stumped.
- 15:04Speaker 4: I'm not stumped. I mean, it's just like there's different.
- 15:11Speaker 1: There's a right answer, Brody to this question, which is,
- 15:14Speaker 1: what's the name for the legendary cicada hatch that happens
- 15:16Speaker 1: every seventeen years, last took place in twenty twenty one?
- 15:23Speaker 3: When they say it happens every seventeen like what.
- 15:25Speaker 1: States not giving you any hints? The question is the question.
- 15:29Speaker 7: I remember the four hatch like it was yesterday.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Okay, that's a hint for the room every seventeen years,
- 15:39Speaker 1: but you don't remember the twenty twenty one cicada.
- 15:42Speaker 7: I have no idea what I mean.
- 15:43Speaker 3: I remember multiple cicada hatches in Pennsylvania, but end certainly
- 15:51Speaker 3: seventeen years apart. Yeah.
- 15:53Speaker 1: No, it looks like most folks aren't coming up with
- 15:56Speaker 1: an answer. Do you think you will? Or should we
- 15:58Speaker 1: just move on?
- 16:00Speaker 3: Hold on?
- 16:00Speaker 2: Yeah, new question?
- 16:01Speaker 5: Yeah, this question.
- 16:03Speaker 4: I will say.
- 16:03Speaker 5: I do love questions that Brody gets kind of pissed
- 16:06Speaker 5: off at. You can see it on his face.
- 16:08Speaker 6: I think Brody goes home and writes like a bunch
- 16:10Speaker 6: of angry letters to different organizations after this, Like, there's
- 16:13Speaker 6: one organization that gets a good letter, and that's the
- 16:15Speaker 6: one that bro Brody. Donate when you.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Don't get a lot of questions?
- 16:19Speaker 3: Right, shut.
- 16:22Speaker 1: Again? The topic is fishing. What's the name for the
- 16:25Speaker 1: legendary cicada hatch that happens every seventeen years, which last
- 16:30Speaker 1: took place in twenty twenty one? Is everybody ready? Yanni?
- 16:37Speaker 1: Do you give up yet?
- 16:40Speaker 7: I am going to know it when I hear it.
- 16:42Speaker 7: I can tell you.
- 16:43Speaker 1: That, Yanni. I bet everybody will randall. All right, go
- 16:49Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have randall without an answer.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Seth saying the locus hatch. Brody's saying the seventeen year
- 16:57Speaker 1: locus marmon circuit. Two different angs, Okay, Rick saying big
- 17:02Speaker 1: bug die off. Hayden sang the seventeen year cicada hatch,
- 17:07Speaker 1: Marge sang the plague Lol, Giannis sang anniversary. This is
- 17:13Speaker 1: going to be a zero percenter question. Nobody got it right.
- 17:16Speaker 1: The correct answer is brood X or the Great Eastern
- 17:20Speaker 1: brood brood X. Does that ring a bell now that
- 17:24Speaker 1: you've heard it?
- 17:24Speaker 3: No? No, not at all.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Yeah, I've heard brud.
- 17:26Speaker 3: We adn't call it that. In Pennsylvania.
- 17:28Speaker 4: The whole the fishing thing threw me off, man, because
- 17:32Speaker 4: like there's a there's a cicada hatch that happens in
- 17:37Speaker 4: like particularly on the Green River in Utah some other places,
- 17:41Speaker 4: And that's what threw me off. This is mo Mormon
- 17:44Speaker 4: crickets on the Green River.
- 17:46Speaker 1: The brood X hatch is most noticeable in the eastern
- 17:50Speaker 1: United States. The phenomenon was first documented by a Philadelphia
- 17:54Speaker 1: minister in seventeen fifteen, who noticed a biblical swarm of
- 17:59Speaker 1: cicada's at church that spring. If you want to be
- 18:01Speaker 1: prepared for the next time it happens in twenty twenty eight,
- 18:05Speaker 1: then read Kooby Brown's article on the medeater dot com
- 18:08Speaker 1: called seventeen years waiting how to fish the Brutex cicada hatch.
- 18:12Speaker 1: It wouldn't be twenty twenty thirty twenty thirty eight. Excuse me,
- 18:16Speaker 1: seventeen years waiting how to fish the brutex cicada hatch.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Question five. The topic is cooking. This is our listener
- 18:24Speaker 1: question of the Week, which was won by John Schlessinger
- 18:27Speaker 1: for setting this great question. John is going to get
- 18:29Speaker 1: a book signed by Steve. The topic is cooking. This
- 18:34Speaker 1: campfire staple, which is sold in foil covered aluminum pans,
- 18:39Speaker 1: was invented by an Indiana chemist in nineteen fifty eight. Again,
- 18:46Speaker 1: the topic is cooking. This campfire staple, which is sold
- 18:50Speaker 1: in foil covered aluminum pans, was invented by an Indiana
- 18:55Speaker 1: chemist in nineteen fifty eight. Brody Randall are confident Rick
- 19:03Speaker 1: is coming up with an answer. Hayden hasn't picked up
- 19:05Speaker 1: his board. Marge, are you going to get this one right. No,
- 19:10Speaker 1: she says, how about you, Seth, Seth, you look medium confidence,
- 19:14Speaker 1: not so wordy.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Right now, I'm getting thrown off by something there, but
- 19:21Speaker 3: I can't fire.
- 19:23Speaker 2: There's there are two. The people that aren't riding answers
- 19:27Speaker 2: are young. I was just going to say, it's not
- 19:30Speaker 2: a staple anymore.
- 19:31Speaker 4: Okay, Yeah, there's a there's a generational thing going on.
- 19:34Speaker 1: You're helping the room out. This camp fire staple, which
- 19:37Speaker 1: is sold in foil covered aluminum pans, was invented by
- 19:40Speaker 1: an Indiana chemist in nineteen fifty eight.
- 19:43Speaker 8: When I was a kid, we would do an annual
- 19:45Speaker 8: beach trip and it was this was a part of
- 19:47Speaker 8: the tradition, was bringing a bunch of this and.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Oh this was a beach staple.
- 19:50Speaker 3: It was Brody.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Have you ever cooked this on a campfire? No, Janni?
- 19:54Speaker 1: Have you ever cooked this on a campfire?
- 19:56Speaker 3: Yes?
- 19:56Speaker 2: With zero success.
- 19:59Speaker 1: Is everybody ready go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 20:04Speaker 1: have Randall saying jiffy pop, Seth saying popcorn, Brody saying
- 20:08Speaker 1: jiffy pop, Rick saying popcorn, Hayden sang jiffy pop, Marge
- 20:12Speaker 1: saying popcorn. Giannis saying Jiffy Pop, they got it. The
- 20:15Speaker 1: correct answer is Jiffy Pop. Oh you're not gonna give
- 20:19Speaker 1: it to them? No, if you just said popcorn, I
- 20:20Speaker 1: looked it up. Popcorn has been around for about nine
- 20:23Speaker 1: thousand years, so little longer than popcorn would not satisfy
- 20:28Speaker 1: what I'm looking for.
- 20:31Speaker 5: Not the the gonna ask him, how picky are you
- 20:35Speaker 5: gonna be? With? Like the brand name, he.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Was not invented by an Indiana chemist in nineteen fifteen.
- 20:41Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, okay, fair enough, fair enough.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Jiffy Pop only makes a single product today, which is
- 20:46Speaker 1: their classic buttered popcorn. Although it's advertised is something you
- 20:50Speaker 1: can make on a stovetop, cooking them over a campfire
- 20:53Speaker 1: is a popular alternative. Their slogan, which has been used
- 20:57Speaker 1: since the nineteen sixties, is Jiffy Pope as fun to
- 21:01Speaker 1: make as it is to eat.
- 21:03Speaker 2: I hope they're paying you for this because they're gonna
- 21:05Speaker 2: crush it this song?
- 21:06Speaker 3: Yeah what what?
- 21:07Speaker 1: Well? You just said it didn't work on the campfire?
- 21:10Speaker 5: Was just gonna burn it?
- 21:11Speaker 4: Did it just burn up?
- 21:12Speaker 1: Or what happened?
- 21:13Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, yeah, it doesn't work even we burned it.
- 21:17Speaker 2: But uh, I also feel like I was probably twelve
- 21:19Speaker 2: or thirteen years old, and maybe I could do it
- 21:22Speaker 2: better now, Phil, did you have.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Any success at the beach with a jiffy pop?
- 21:25Speaker 3: Oh?
- 21:26Speaker 8: We always cheated and just used it on a stove
- 21:28Speaker 8: top at the beach.
- 21:30Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, I still we still burned it on the
- 21:33Speaker 5: stovetop one time.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Skid. Phil.
- 21:36Speaker 1: We are halfway through the game of trivia. Give us
- 21:39Speaker 1: a scoreboard update.
- 21:40Speaker 8: Yeah, sure thing we've got, Rick, Jannison, Maggie tied up
- 21:44Speaker 8: with two points. Hayden and Seth have three points apiece
- 21:47Speaker 8: and tied up in first place.
- 21:49Speaker 3: Can you believe it?
- 21:50Speaker 8: Are Brody, Henderson and Randall?
- 21:53Speaker 2: Anybody anybody's ear?
- 21:56Speaker 1: How many points do they have? Phil?
- 21:57Speaker 3: Four?
- 21:57Speaker 4: Phil?
- 21:58Speaker 5: Which one did I get wrong?
- 21:59Speaker 1: That?
- 22:00Speaker 5: I thought I was the same as Seth.
- 22:01Speaker 3: It's very possible I might have. I might have messed up. Rick.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Did you get the first question right? Yeah?
- 22:07Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure that's what I didn't get that right.
- 22:11Speaker 5: I did not get that right. Okay, Okay, there we go.
- 22:15Speaker 5: Hell sorry, hell yeah.
- 22:26Speaker 1: Question six The topic is hunting. Name two of the
- 22:32Speaker 1: four states with the most prong horn entries in the
- 22:35Speaker 1: Boone and Crockett record book. Name two? Of the four
- 22:41Speaker 1: states with the most prong horn entries in the Boone
- 22:45Speaker 1: and crocket record book. Quick answers from this room. They
- 22:50Speaker 1: look confident. We've had a zero percenter today, We've had
- 22:54Speaker 1: a one hundred percenter. We may have a second one
- 22:58Speaker 1: where everybody gets it right based on how confident folks
- 23:02Speaker 1: were coming up with answers. Again, you need to name
- 23:04Speaker 1: two of the four states with the most pronghorn entries
- 23:07Speaker 1: in the Boone and Crockett record book. Randall doing some erasing.
- 23:11Speaker 1: Are you just trying to.
- 23:12Speaker 7: Know you're trying to hide it from rivals here?
- 23:14Speaker 1: Okay, so everybody ready, go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 23:20Speaker 1: We have Randall saying Wyoming and Nevada, two of them. Jeanni,
- 23:25Speaker 1: I don't think we can give it to You've seen
- 23:27Speaker 1: the boards. Randall saying Wyoming and Nevada, Seth saying Wyoming
- 23:31Speaker 1: and Nevada, Brody saying Wyoming and New Mexico. Rick sang
- 23:35Speaker 1: New Mexico and Arizona. Hayden saying Wyoming, New Mexico. Marche
- 23:41Speaker 1: saying Wyoming, Montana. Giannis sang Wyoming.
- 23:45Speaker 3: I don't feel like you repeated the question. That's how
- 23:47Speaker 3: you get a half point.
- 23:48Speaker 1: March seems like everyone else came up with it.
- 23:51Speaker 3: Marche.
- 23:51Speaker 1: This is how my wife got a half point. She
- 23:53Speaker 1: got one of the two states. I didn't want to
- 23:55Speaker 1: tell you before this question. Then you know, uh, these
- 23:58Speaker 1: folks would have known. The four states are Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona,
- 24:04Speaker 1: and Nevada. So our room did pretty well. Yanni would
- 24:08Speaker 1: have you.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Could you probably go to Arizona?
- 24:10Speaker 1: Yanni, I did repeat it. We had the rest of
- 24:12Speaker 1: the room new again that the question is now on
- 24:14Speaker 1: the spin behind you. Wyoming leads the country in Boone
- 24:19Speaker 1: and Crockett Pronghorn with one thousand, four hundred eighty five.
- 24:23Speaker 1: That's followed by New Mexico with eight hundred, Arizona and
- 24:27Speaker 1: Nevada with four hundred, and Montana, Colorado, and Texas with
- 24:32Speaker 1: two hundred. The states with the fewest entries are Oklahoma
- 24:35Speaker 1: with six, Kansas with ten, and North Dakota with twenty five.
- 24:40Speaker 4: In other words, the states that don't have any analog
- 24:43Speaker 4: That's right.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Question seven. The topic is gear. According to NAPA Auto Parts,
- 24:51Speaker 1: this is the most common size for a trailer hitch
- 24:54Speaker 1: ball oh According to NAPA Auto Parts, this is the
- 25:00Speaker 1: most common size for a trailer hitchball. The topic is
- 25:06Speaker 1: gear Brody, did you already come up with an answer?
- 25:09Speaker 1: If you just not picked up your boys?
- 25:10Speaker 4: I wrote the first thing that popped into.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Brody knows it.
- 25:14Speaker 5: And this is out of like what they sell, So
- 25:16Speaker 5: any kind of trailer out there.
- 25:18Speaker 1: According to nap Biotto Parts, this is the most common
- 25:21Speaker 1: size for a trailer hitchball. On napa's website, it says
- 25:24Speaker 1: this is the most common size of trailer hitch ball. Seth,
- 25:32Speaker 1: You're gonna get this one right, mm yeah, yeah, Johanny,
- 25:37Speaker 1: you got this one right?
- 25:39Speaker 3: I think so.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Marge, are you ready?
- 25:43Speaker 4: Hold?
- 25:43Speaker 2: I don't want to write down the two most common ones,
- 25:46Speaker 2: do I Let me turn Let me turn around and
- 25:47Speaker 2: see the question about.
- 25:49Speaker 1: According to nap boutto Parts, this is the most common
- 25:52Speaker 1: size for a trailer hitch ball. Go ahead and reveal
- 25:56Speaker 1: your answers. We have a Randall saying two and a
- 26:00Speaker 1: half inch, saying two inch, Brody saying two inch, Rick
- 26:04Speaker 1: and Hayden saying two inch, March saying whatever pulls my
- 26:08Speaker 1: drift boat? Jannis saying two inch. The correct answer is
- 26:13Speaker 1: two inch. The room did very well, Marge. I would
- 26:16Speaker 1: guess that you have a two inch that pulls your
- 26:19Speaker 1: drift boat you haul, and others consider a two inch
- 26:23Speaker 1: ball hitch to be the standard size. After two inch,
- 26:26Speaker 1: the most common sizes are one in, seven eighths and
- 26:30Speaker 1: two and five sixteenths. Two inch trailer balls have a
- 26:33Speaker 1: wide weight capacity ranging from three five hundred pounds to
- 26:37Speaker 1: twelve thousand pounds for gross trailer weight.
- 26:41Speaker 2: Okay, little PSA is that what they call him?
- 26:44Speaker 1: What do you got?
- 26:45Speaker 2: Recently on the gear Talk podcast, we interviewed fellow clay
- 26:49Speaker 2: Craft from x Overland and we learned that you never
- 26:54Speaker 2: ever try to pull anybody out of a sticky situation
- 26:58Speaker 2: by putting a strap around their UH ball because that
- 27:04Speaker 2: can sheer off. And people have been killed recently by
- 27:08Speaker 2: those balls coming through the windshield and then hitting them.
- 27:12Speaker 2: So you got to pull someone out or you're getting
- 27:14Speaker 2: pulled out, Do not let them attach to the ball. Instead,
- 27:17Speaker 2: take the ball out and attach to the hitch itself
- 27:19Speaker 2: or the pin that goes through there attached to that.
- 27:26Speaker 3: I've definitely used the ball before me too.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I was waiting for somebody to argue, how is this
- 27:31Speaker 1: related to me? Why is it? Gear? Well, Yanni just said,
- 27:34Speaker 1: you're pulling people ont of stuck places. You're pulling campers,
- 27:37Speaker 1: boat boats, snow and beile, trailers, ice shacks, all kinds
- 27:41Speaker 1: of no.
- 27:41Speaker 4: I think that's one of your best ever questions.
- 27:43Speaker 3: That relates to a lot of me up.
- 27:47Speaker 1: Well done. Question eight, the topic is fishing. This next
- 27:50Speaker 1: great question comes to this via Scott Morgan. If you
- 27:53Speaker 1: have a question you think it's right for Meat Eater Trivia,
- 27:55Speaker 1: you can send it to trivia at the meat eater
- 27:57Speaker 1: dot com. Name two of the three countries that have
- 28:02Speaker 1: produced bass Master Classic champions. Name two of the three
- 28:09Speaker 1: countries that have produced bass Master Classic champions, Joanni, we
- 28:15Speaker 1: need you to name two of them. Thank you, Randall?
- 28:22Speaker 1: Are you going to get this one right?
- 28:24Speaker 7: I've lost all confidence?
- 28:26Speaker 1: What happened on that last question? Do you think Randal?
- 28:29Speaker 7: I just knew, I knew that it was two inches,
- 28:33Speaker 7: and I just thought inflated? How can I screw this up?
- 28:39Speaker 1: And then you rote a half after Yeah, Yeah, it's
- 28:42Speaker 1: really disappointing. Again, I need you to name two of
- 28:45Speaker 1: the three countries that have produced bass Master Classic champions.
- 28:50Speaker 1: Does everybody have an answer? BRODDI yeah, Marge, go ahead
- 28:57Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Randall saying US and Japan,
- 29:01Speaker 1: Seth saying USA Canada, Brody saying USA Canada, Rick saying
- 29:06Speaker 1: USA Japan. Hayden sang America Japan, March saying Canada, USA,
- 29:12Speaker 1: Yannis sang Usa Australia.
- 29:15Speaker 3: America's not a country.
- 29:16Speaker 1: The three countries are the United States, Japan, and Canada.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Everybody but Yanni got it right. The first international champion
- 29:27Speaker 1: was Takahiro Omory from Japan, who won the two thousand
- 29:31Speaker 1: and four Classic on Lake Wiley in North Carolina. The
- 29:35Speaker 1: next international champion was Jeff Gustifson from Canada, who won
- 29:39Speaker 1: the twenty twenty three Classic on the Tennessee River in Tennessee.
- 29:43Speaker 1: The other fifty champions were from the United States. Seth,
- 29:48Speaker 1: did you watch Jeff Gustafson win this year as the
- 29:52Speaker 1: second international angler to ever win the whole thing?
- 29:55Speaker 3: I did? Yep?
- 29:56Speaker 1: Did you remember that?
- 29:57Speaker 8: Oh?
- 29:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I know Jeff was from Canada. Oh yeah, done, Set,
- 30:00Speaker 1: And you still went off the board. Did you say,
- 30:02Speaker 1: did you say Canada or Japan?
- 30:03Speaker 3: Canada?
- 30:04Speaker 1: Okay, well done, Set.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Not a Pulcanic, because yeah, Gussie was fresh on the mind.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Gussie, you even know his nickname.
- 30:09Speaker 3: Yeah, man, big Set.
- 30:10Speaker 2: I think our homie Carl uh is going to win
- 30:13Speaker 2: in the future, so Australia will soon be at this list.
- 30:16Speaker 3: Carl, I think Carl win Phil.
- 30:18Speaker 1: We have two questions left. Give us a scoreboard update.
- 30:22Speaker 8: Maggie and Yannis are no longer in the running for
- 30:25Speaker 8: the wins sort of a Rick Cutting has five points,
- 30:29Speaker 8: Seth and Randall and Hayden all have six points apiece
- 30:32Speaker 8: and in first place it is Brody. Henderson was seven
- 30:35Speaker 8: points Randall.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Question nine, the topic is cooking. The Food Network described
- 30:44Speaker 1: this dish as quote basically a deep fried burrito. The
- 30:51Speaker 1: Food Network described this dish as quote basically a deep
- 30:56Speaker 1: fried burrito. Yanni with the quickest answer, is the pressure off, Yanni,
- 31:01Speaker 1: now that you're out of the game. Is that why
- 31:03Speaker 1: you're so quick to answer this question?
- 31:06Speaker 2: No, it's because I used to work at fiestas in Edwards, Colorado.
- 31:11Speaker 2: A hint sling quite a few of these.
- 31:14Speaker 4: Hint from ice to order beers and tacos from your
- 31:17Speaker 4: honest Now, nobody did.
- 31:19Speaker 1: You know each other then?
- 31:21Speaker 5: That?
- 31:22Speaker 3: I guess.
- 31:22Speaker 4: So if you went in, there's a tail end your
- 31:25Speaker 4: fiesta's career in my restaurant because you do a little
- 31:27Speaker 4: work there. Why you were guiding, didn't you?
- 31:30Speaker 1: The Food Network described this dish as quote basically a
- 31:34Speaker 1: deep fried burrito. Seth without an answer, Oh clue, Brody,
- 31:42Speaker 1: do you have this one right?
- 31:43Speaker 4: I'm okay?
- 31:47Speaker 1: Are you going to get this one right?
- 31:48Speaker 7: I don't feel great about it, but I think I'm
- 31:50Speaker 7: in the right.
- 31:52Speaker 2: Okay, I'd go down as is right now and get
- 31:55Speaker 2: one smothered in there.
- 31:57Speaker 3: Everybody's having answer.
- 31:59Speaker 7: Let's not talk about chicken giving.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Oh god, now I want to change it?
- 32:05Speaker 1: Is that?
- 32:05Speaker 3: Do you know it? Now?
- 32:07Speaker 2: Okay'na put something though, I write down any Mexican dish.
- 32:14Speaker 6: I think that hint that Yiannis gave us enough to
- 32:16Speaker 6: get me to change my answer to the spirit of things.
- 32:18Speaker 6: I'm not going to change my answer. I'm just crossing
- 32:20Speaker 6: out what I can't because of jest.
- 32:22Speaker 1: Everybody ready, Yeah, go ahead and reveal your answers. We
- 32:26Speaker 1: have Randall saying Anchilada, Seth saying Anchilada. Brody sang chimmy changa.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Rick without an answer, Hayden sang and Panada. He crossed
- 32:36Speaker 1: out Anchilada. Marge sang chimmy changa. Yannis saying chimmy changa.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Yanni was right. The correct answer is chimmy changa. I
- 32:44Speaker 1: think Marge and Brody also got it. Yanni, tell us
- 32:48Speaker 1: about the famous anchiladas that excuse me, the famous chimmy changa's.
- 32:53Speaker 2: It wasn't the uh uh the chimmy changa so much.
- 32:56Speaker 2: It was this uh what was that sauce called.
- 33:00Speaker 4: White stuff on the enchilada?
- 33:01Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 33:02Speaker 8: Good?
- 33:02Speaker 2: It was like a very americanized sauce to put onto
- 33:05Speaker 2: Mexican food. But it was basically creamy, chickeny, a little
- 33:09Speaker 2: bit of hollopenoey cheesy. And you could basically as a
- 33:13Speaker 2: waiter you could upsell and add like a dollar to
- 33:16Speaker 2: every plate by saying, hey, instead of having the normal
- 33:18Speaker 2: green chili or enchilada sauce, why don't we just smother
- 33:20Speaker 2: it at all? In the what was that stuff called
- 33:23Speaker 2: the white white corn something?
- 33:26Speaker 5: What? Good?
- 33:27Speaker 1: What else was a Mexican restaurant using deep friars for
- 33:30Speaker 1: I suppose like taco shells, the chimney chin.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Yeah, they make their own own nocha chips, chips, chips.
- 33:40Speaker 2: And then we also had the what do they call it?
- 33:42Speaker 2: Fried ice cream, which is not really fried but you.
- 33:46Speaker 1: Know, although most Americans associate this food with Mexico, it
- 33:52Speaker 1: was actually invented in Arizona. The first chimmy changa was
- 33:55Speaker 1: accidentally created in nineteen twenty two when a Tucson cook
- 33:59Speaker 1: dry to burrito in a deep friar. If you want
- 34:02Speaker 1: to learn how to make your own, then go to
- 34:03Speaker 1: the medeater dot com and read Justin Townsend's recipe called
- 34:07Speaker 1: venison steak Jimmy Chanka.
- 34:09Speaker 2: Dude, I'm making that not tonight, tomorrow night, Phil.
- 34:14Speaker 1: We have one question left. I think it's over, but
- 34:17Speaker 1: give us an update.
- 34:18Speaker 8: It is indeed over. Brody Henderson has eight points and
- 34:21Speaker 8: cannot be caught by Hayden, who has six points behind him.
- 34:27Speaker 2: Randall, you're not even sorry.
- 34:31Speaker 3: Sorry sorry I didn't.
- 34:34Speaker 8: I didn't players correctly. Apologies Randall. Hayden and seth All
- 34:38Speaker 8: have six.
- 34:39Speaker 7: It's fine. I feel like I deserve it.
- 34:42Speaker 1: A runaway at victory for Brody. We'll see if he
- 34:44Speaker 1: can get the Shelby Index.
- 34:46Speaker 2: Good job, guys.
- 34:48Speaker 1: Question ten the topic is ecology. This next great question
- 34:52Speaker 1: comes to his via Canaan Grove. If you have a
- 34:55Speaker 1: question you think is right for me Eater trivia, you
- 34:57Speaker 1: can send it to trivia at the meat eater dot com.
- 35:00Speaker 1: The National Park Service defines this type of wetland as
- 35:04Speaker 1: an area that's dominated by grasses but lacks trees. The
- 35:10Speaker 1: National Park Service defines this type of wetland as an
- 35:15Speaker 1: area that's dominated by grasses but lacks trees.
- 35:21Speaker 2: You know, I'm married to a wetland's colleges.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Is that going to help you get this one right?
- 35:27Speaker 3: Hm?
- 35:30Speaker 2: I have an answer?
- 35:31Speaker 1: Okay, that's her official title. I've just thought of her
- 35:34Speaker 1: as a botanist, but I should refer to her now
- 35:37Speaker 1: as a wetlands ecologist.
- 35:39Speaker 3: Yes.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Again, the question is the National Park Service defines this
- 35:43Speaker 1: type of wetland as an area that's dominated by grasses
- 35:47Speaker 1: but lacks trees. Does everybody have an answer?
- 35:54Speaker 3: Hayden, Yeah, mine stupid though.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. We have Randall saying Marsh,
- 36:00Speaker 1: Seth saying Marsh, Brody sang Planes, Rick sang Marsh, Hayden
- 36:05Speaker 1: sing Riparian Area March sang Marsh, Jannis sang Fen. The
- 36:12Speaker 1: correct answer.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Marsh is Marsh.
- 36:14Speaker 1: The room did pretty well. According to the National Park Service,
- 36:18Speaker 1: a marsh is a wetland that's dominated by grasses, rushes,
- 36:23Speaker 1: and small shrubs. A bog is a wetland that has acidic,
- 36:27Speaker 1: low oxygen pools of water. A swamp is a wetland
- 36:31Speaker 1: that's covered in trees. Both marshes and swamps can be
- 36:34Speaker 1: either fresh water or saltwater, but bogs are almost exclusively freshwater. Yanni,
- 36:41Speaker 1: I just learned what the word fen means yesterday when
- 36:43Speaker 1: I was writing this question. Explained to folks what a
- 36:46Speaker 1: fen is. Why did you think it was a fen?
- 36:48Speaker 2: Well, it is classified as a wetland. Am I correct there?
- 36:51Speaker 1: Yep.
- 36:53Speaker 2: And my wife Jennifer's worked in a lot of fens.
- 36:55Speaker 2: But it's basically it's where peat comes from. It's a
- 36:59Speaker 2: peat bog in other words, so it's a wetland that
- 37:02Speaker 2: is like slowly filled in over years and years and years.
- 37:04Speaker 2: And what's cool about him is that they can take
- 37:06Speaker 2: I think, pretty shallow core samples but get way back
- 37:10Speaker 2: into history by not going that deep because the layers
- 37:14Speaker 2: are very uh then.
- 37:16Speaker 1: Very good, Yannie. It's almost like you're married to a
- 37:18Speaker 1: wetland's ecologist, but you didn't know that the answer was
- 37:21Speaker 1: A marsh is that.
- 37:24Speaker 3: Like a muskeg? Is that like a finn.
