Latest / Harder Than Life / Muscle Loss Over 40: The Unspoken Consequence of Rapid Weight Loss
Transcript
- 0:00The most popular weight loss drug in history is going to make a lot of people fatter, not skinnier, fatter. They just don't realize it yet. I am not anti-Ozempic. I am not here to shame anybody holding a pen in their fridge right now. Shot works. That part isn't even the argument. It melts visceral fat. It melts visceral fat.
- 0:24It quiets the food noise. For some people, it's the first piece they have had with food in 30 years. Here's what nobody selling it will tell you. Up to 40% of the weight you lose on these drugs isn't fat. It's muscle. The exact tissue that keeps you alive, keeps you upright, keeps your metabolism running, you're flushing it down the drain along with the gut.
- 0:53And then you stop because almost everybody stops. And within a year, two out of every three pounds come back. But they don't come back as muscle. They come back as fat. So now you're lighter on the scale and softer than the day you started. Skinnier, weaker, and quietly worse off. I call that renting thinner.
- 1:18Here's the part that'll make some of you mad. The drug fixed your appetite. Your appetite was never the disease. Something built that belly, the stress, the numbing, the life you're not dealing with, and the shot in your stomach doesn't touch a single bit of it. So today, no shame and no hype.
- 1:41I'm gonna show you exactly what this drug does to a body over 40 and the rules I'd follow if I ever picked one up. Because use right, it's a bridge. Use like everyone else is using it, it's a faster way to the same wall. Let's get into it. Welcome back to the Harder Than Life podcast, Harder Than Life Nation, Thursday episode, just you and me.
- 2:06Keep in mind, I'm not a doctor and I'm not even anti-medicine. So listen to me when I tell you this. I'm a guy who does the work day in and day out. I measure everything and I provide the receipts, the proof over any promise all day, every day. This is the take that nobody will say. This is what I'm reading and determining from the people that I've talked to that have taken it. The shot works. I'm not fighting it about it.
- 2:36The drug works to lose weight. So I'm not sitting here trying to hate on it. And I believe there is a use for it. It rents you a smaller body, literally.
- 2:49Renting, not owning, but I'm going to teach you how to own. I know a lot of people on this drug and the overwhelming majority of them look great. I'm not even going to get into the Ozempic butt that I, it's really the Ozempic ass. Let's just call it what it is. It's where you absolutely lose all the muscle in your, in your hind parts. Guys or ladies, it's disgusting.
- 3:13that's when you're doing it too much. So here's where the big thing is. Nobody's asking the three-year question. This is what I want to understand. This hasn't been around long enough for anybody to know the long-term repercussions. So yes, it works really fast. I don't know anything in this world that works that fast, that good, that doesn't have long-term effects. Nothing is that good.
- 3:40I have watched people shrink their bodies and watch their skin peel off their face. I just told you about their hind parts. It is literally eating away your bones. This is not theory. This is more of an observation that I'm seeing everywhere. Guys, it's the ozempic face, the ozempic ass, the skinny, frail skin hanging off, sure.
- 4:07You weigh less, but you are very unhealthy. Again, this is my own take. There's no sponsors here. I can say what I want because it's my show. I don't have any skin in this game, so I can just tell you from a healthy perspective.
- 4:25man doing the work, what I'm seeing. I did a lot of research before I recorded this episode, so I'm going to deep dive into some of the data. It crushes visceral fat. So be fair and accurate. It cuts visceral fat 27% in the trials. So I want you to understand that it works for that. But up to 40% of that is lost muscle.
- 4:5240% is lost muscle. That means lean mass. The things, if you listened to the last two episodes, it was about muscle is what keeps you alive. You do not want to lose that. Muscle weighs more than fat. So if it's taking that away, you're in trouble. When you're getting skinny, you're getting frailer. You're more susceptible to falls, breaks. Yeah.
- 5:16Bruises. So you're skinny. Congratulations. You're unhealthy. And if you're over 40, you're already burning muscle. You're already bleeding the very thing that you're taking to lose. So you're losing muscle and around a drug that's not helping you. Both at once working against you.
- 5:35So congratulations, you're skinny. There's this whole unhealthy obesity, that plus low muscle plus excess fat and the frility that comes with it, it is just a no, no, no. Here's the bigger thing is that nobody, almost nobody will stop even when they see their face, their skin pulling off.
- 5:58and they're losing all their hind parts. They just keep fast-tracking to frailty. You're almost putting yourself into old age. So again, as I said in the opening, two-thirds of the weight comes back after you stop as fat. So,
- 6:17Listen to my other workout episodes. Avoid this drug. But again, I'm going to talk a little bit about how to bridge the gap. I'm not anti this. The worst part is what it does to your body, guys. We've got to put a name to this Ozempic body. It's sure it's skinnier, but it's frail.
- 6:37It looks like death eating popcorn. You're lighter on the scale, softer body, lower metabolism. It's just, this is not fear mongering. The data is there and it doesn't take long to look at it. Again, if you're morbidly obese, you got to weigh your things. You might die of heart disease. Let's use it. Use it along with weight training. There's a proper term. I'm going to get into that a little deeper later in the episode. This is the part, the real reason is that this is the part that's probably going to get me hate.
- 7:07If you just treated your appetite, not your wound, you would be better off. The belly was built by something. It was probably by eating poorly. It was probably by not exercising.
- 7:22The drug can't fix that, guys. It just won't. The work works. It's funny how that is. The belly is the symptom, not the disease. And usually the disease is what's going on in your head. I'm stressed, so I eat. I eat or I don't have the energy to go work out. And then I get myself more stressed and you're on life's hamster wheel.
- 7:43So it's the symptom. Treat the disease. The disease is what is going on in your head. Remember, your ceiling is your healing. So I'm going to get a little hate for that. And food is usually the bandage to feelings. Feeling is healing. We medicate the hunger that we should have just literally listened to.
- 8:10And you can't inject your way past yourself. You can't outrun, you can't outwork, and you can't outmedicate that usually childhood trauma, that core wound, whatever it is. We all got it. I've shared mine with you. It was the feeling of unlovability, unworthiness.
- 8:31And I was flat out bad. And below that was a protector that was taking all of my victim mentality and paying it forward. So heal the root, you will get better fruit. That drug buys silence, not peace. Sure, you'll get skinny, but you're not healing the relationship with yourself. And that's really what we're talking about here. That's what heart and life is all about. So when you relapse off of this drug,
- 8:59It's hard because without the inner work, the old pattern returns the second the drug stops and it returns worse because you can't stop it. You can't go back to the drug and you feel worse about yourself. So I'm gonna call these the Siegel rules. I never give you a problem and don't give you the answer. So let's talk about rule number one. It's renting versus owning. These drugs they rent.
- 9:27the muscle, the work, the reps own. This is the framework to the harder than life mantra. The only thing you ever truly own is the body you built with hard work. The harder you work, the luckier you get. In this case, the harder you work, the better you'll look and feel. I can't say it enough. Decide which one you're doing.
- 9:57Is it a temporary rental or permanent ownership? I own my body. I'm not renting it. I could, I've looked like this for 30 years and the same weight, same muscle mass. Lately, I've defined it a little better because I've been upping my intensity and upping the weights. And I got a crazy workout partner that literally tries to kill me every day.
- 10:23So a rental with no lease ends ugly because there's nothing to dispute. If you don't build what's underneath it, the eviction day wrecks you. Rule number two, there is a muscle tax. Every pound out owes muscle work. You lax for the weight to drop.
- 10:49You're going to pay for it in resistance training or go bankrupt. You decide. Here's the solution. Lift while you're on it. Period. There is nothing in this world that you can just take and just magically feel better forever. Well, I shouldn't say that. You can take workouts every single day.
- 11:11Eat right. No matter how you feel on this drug, you have to take in protein. You have to feed the muscles or else they will erode.
- 11:23And if you skip this tax, you'll pay it in fat later. Trust me, dodge the work now, and you'll settle up for the rebound fat and frailty later on. I guarantee it. This is also true for avoiding the inner work. Guys, I pushed it off till I was 43, and then most recently pushed it off till I was 50. It compounds, it's like a fricking snowball. That childhood trauma that you're running, escaping from, numbing,
- 11:52sexting, scrolling, Netflixing, it's going to come due. That bill comes due sooner or later. And even if you make it all the way to the end of your life, it'll become due with regret. The end of your life, you'll meet the person you were supposed to be and the person you are, and that will be regret. No regrets. Not the way we say no regrets. Have no regrets. Rule number three, there is an exit ramp. Never leave yourself without an escape plan.
- 12:23Never start a drug without designing how you get off of it. When you get this from your doctor, say, how long can I, should I be taking this for? And set yourself an ideal weight. I'm going to lose 15 pounds and then stop, but lose it the right way and lose it slowly. So you do it before you get on it. This is my goal. And once you hit that goal, stop. It is a bridge.
- 12:53Not at home. It's meant to carry you to build the body, not live in it forever. I know people that have been on it for a year. It's insane. They just do a smaller dose of it. No, no, no. And don't get me started on mixing this stuff with alcohol. All kinds of wrong. Rule number four is earn the window. Use the quiet to install the system in your head.
- 13:21to make certain that you don't go back to the same habits and rituals that got you heavy in the first place. So get rid of those habits and don't coast. I know that is anti, some of you people are like, what are you talking about? I'm losing weight. I don't work out. This is the greatest thing in the world. You are who I'm talking about. You're, I want you to just buy time, but not an excuse. The shock will buy you a headstart, but.
- 13:48Only if you do the work during it and literally, like I said, work on the stuff in your head or else it will all come back tenfold. Again, I'm not shaming you if you're on it. It's a lot like...
- 14:09testosterone, steroids, peptides. I'm a big endorser that I use it to get you over the hump to push to the next level. So I am not knocking you. This is not I just want you to do it healthy. I don't want you skipping the work along with it. There are no free rides in this life. I assure you this. If you.
- 14:31look at statistics of people that just inherited a bunch of money, or if you hit the fricking lottery, they lose it within a few years because you didn't become the person that understands what it takes day in and day out to keep that stuff. So you're going to have to do the work and believe me, guys, this is the most expensive thing in your life, your body, you need to own it. You can't rent this one. There's no takesies, vaccies. Right?
- 15:00I want you to start the muscle tax this week. Literally, if you're not working out and you're taking Ozempic, get your butt to the gym.
