- 3:10Serious Adventure with Nick Carterer. As we begin today's story, we find Nick
- 3:15and Patsy in Nick's carr returning to town. Oh gosh, there comes out.
- 3:21You were able to prevent that poor old lady's home from being taken away
- 3:23from us? So am I, Patsy? That was a jip game if
- 3:27ever I saw one. The old lady was in the right, but I
- 3:30had to find the proof for otherwise you'd have been turned out in the streets.
- 3:31But nowhere to go. You ain't right back to the office. No,
- 3:35not directly. I haven't stop off and doing aaron for Riley, first
- 3:38doing aaron for Raleigh. And when have you tied it that I haven't started
- 3:43anything? Betsy. Riley called me this morning just before you got to the
- 3:46office and asked me, if I do this job, is a special favor
- 3:47to him? What do you have to do? Well? It seems that
- 3:51there's a woman on Cherry Street who makes a business of supplying spider webs to
- 3:53the army and Navy. Oh, they use him for cross hairs, for
- 3:58engineering instruments and sighting devices gun sites, bomb sites and so on. It's
- 4:01only a small business, but it's pretty valuable and mighty important too. So
- 4:04where do you come in? This woman called Riley early this morning and said
- 4:09that someone had tried to break into replace last night. She has a large
- 4:13shipment just ready to go out, and she's afraid that someone may try to
- 4:15keep it from delivering it. So Riley asked me if i'd stop in on
- 4:18my way back and pick it up. Said he had no good man he
- 4:20could send for it now because of some special work the police are doing just
- 4:25now, and good natured own Nicks that he would. Where do you have
- 4:28to take it to one of the naval buildings downtown? Besides being worth about
- 4:31ten thousand dollars, the web's very important for the service. Also, I
- 4:35thought you might like to see how they collect this web from the spiders.
- 4:38Do you want to come with me? Well, I've got a dental appointment
- 4:41in about an hour, Nick, but I'll stop off and have a look
- 4:44at this fight at conservatory. How are you going to be there only long
- 4:47enough to pick up the stuff? I expect unless there's some delay. You
- 4:50want to get back to town, plenty of time for your appointment with a
- 4:54tooth specialist. Yes, I am Nick Carter. I have come to pick
- 5:11up the web that you want to deliver to child. Who told you to
- 5:14come here? Riley said, you want the police protection. That's right I
- 5:16do. Would you mind identifying yourself? Please? Not at all? Would
- 5:21this prove my identity sufficiently? Oh? Of course, come in, mister
- 5:27Carter. Thank you, Miss Lewis, Ky Lewis, I own this business.
- 5:30This is Miss Bowen, my assistant. You do. The web will
- 5:33be ready in just a few minutes. I have one more spiders to take
- 5:36care of. This is a new Nana Lewis. I've seen centy of spider
- 5:41webs, but I never thought of saving any of them. Well, that's
- 5:44a very different thing, Miss Bowen. You can't just save any old web
- 5:46you might find around the house. You have to go at it the right
- 5:49way and have the right kind of spiders. What kind do you use?
- 5:54Black widow? Aren't they? Yes? Their web is very strong and very
- 5:57uniform. Black widow. They deadly. Well, there's really no danger if
- 6:01I get bitten. A solution of epsom salts injected into the bloodstream will counteract
- 6:05the poisons. It's nice to know, but I hope I never have to
- 6:09use this right. Oh, look at all the jars, Max, Is
- 6:13there a spider in each joe? Not quite? We have one hundred and
- 6:16sixty here just now. I checked up last night. My assistant Jim Baldwin
- 6:20is out on the field collecting more today. How do you get the web?
- 6:25Well, watch me. I let the spider out of the jar,
- 6:29and almost at once it starts to spin a web. I'll take the end
- 6:32of the web so and fasten it to this small wire frame there. Then
- 6:40I just wind up the frame and the web winds up as fast as the
- 6:42spider produces it. I understand you had an attempt at burglary here last night,
- 6:46miss Lewis. Yes, someone tried to break in the back door.
- 6:50We found chisel marks all around it this morning, but they were unsuccessful,
- 6:54or else they got scared away. Any idea who might want to steal your
- 6:58stuff? No, but I didn't want to take any chances with such an
- 7:00unusually large shipment as this, so I ask for police protection. And I
- 7:04don't blame you. You say there are one hundred and sixty striders here.
- 7:09Yes, all widows. Okay, in here, Jim, that's my assistant,
- 7:13Jim Baldwin. Not much firs time, Kay, I only got a
- 7:15level more of black widows. The woods are too dry. Just now,
- 7:18Oh, Jim, this is mister Carter and miss Bowen. What do you
- 7:20do? How do you do? Mister Carter is taking the shipment of web
- 7:24the naval building for me to be sure it gets there. Oh, I
- 7:27see you know. I can't understand why anyone who want to steal the webs
- 7:31really only collectors in this part of the country, and no one else could
- 7:34sell them without attracting attention. Well, I know it sounds cool. I'm
- 7:38not criticizing you. I'm just thinking out loud, that's all. How much
- 7:42longer before the web will be ready? Oh? Not long. As soon
- 7:45as I finished this one web, I'll pack them in those cases and they'll
- 7:47be ready to go. Not over half hours the most. I think I
- 7:51better get along, Nick, I can take the subway. I don't want
- 7:55to be lay in my appointment with a dandy. Okay, Bessy, I'll
- 7:58see you in the office about noon. All right, Thanks for the demonstation
- 8:01to show it. You're very well gone. Goodbye. I'm sorry to keep
- 8:05you waiting, mister Carter, but you can't hurry. The spiders squat all
- 8:09right, I don't ever hurt, Oh Jim, get that? Well,
- 8:13sure, I'll take it. In those cases you'll pack the web in look
- 8:16like boxes of fishing tackle, don't they. Yes, you can pack a
- 8:18lot of web into a pretty small space. It's for you, Korrow,
- 8:22Pete, Oh, thank you. I'll only be a moment, Pete Tomorrow.
- 8:28Isn't he that small time gangster that runs a garage. That's the one
- 8:31tells black market tires and gasoline. That's him. What's her connection with him?
- 8:37Nothing? I guess they've been out together a few times. Well,
- 8:41it's time to feed the spiders. Each one gets a fresh guill fly once
- 8:43a day. Watch this, I watch her go after it. She does.
- 8:50Yes, Oh, I don't think i'd care to be Oh oh what
- 9:09hit me? Oh my head? You'll just ship a thousand hammers too,
- 9:18How do you too? Huh? Wonderful? By the web are gone?
- 9:22What cases? My grief? Miss Lewis the Lewis Are you dead shot right
- 9:31through the head? Wait, that's my gun there on the floor. Why
- 9:37was shot with my gun? Hey bottom, ballollum, wake up, wake
- 9:41up? What happened? Balloon? Can you hear me? Yeah? What's
- 9:46the matter? Hey? Lewis has been murdered, okay, murder, Yes,
- 9:50shot through the head and the web's gone, all of it, the
- 9:52web gone? Yes? Did you see the guy who's like us? No?
- 9:56I looked around as you went down. I saw someone behind me and
- 9:58then I got it and got it good. And come on, come on,
- 10:01snap out of it? Will you'll get on the phone and call the
- 10:03police. Puise of course, get in the office and call him. Now,
- 10:05all right, I'll call him. I'll have a look around, see
- 10:07if I can find anything to tell us who's behind this m whoever it was,
- 10:13use my gun? Wife to all the fingerprints on trains? A whistle?
- 10:18Now? Hello? What's this? Wasn't here before? And I'm sure
- 10:26ticket for a parked car Morrow's garage. Pete to Morrow phoned here just I
- 10:35got wet. They're coming right now, look here about them? Are you
- 10:39sure that was Pete Morrow on the phone a few minutes ago? Who sure
- 10:41it was? I know his voice? Why? I just found this on
- 10:45the floor here a parking ticket for Morrow's garage. Probably just a coincidence.
- 10:50Somebody who had parked at Morrow's place did this. You're on there. This
- 10:54is the other end of the ticket then held by the garage. So it
- 10:58is so what I know that was Morrow on the phone. Besides, he
- 11:03was still talking to Kay when we were slugged. Yes, you're right there,
- 11:07Lewis was still talking last day. Knew. I wonder this ticket wasn't
- 11:11here before the killing, and it's here now a little of a better clue.
- 11:18I think I'll take a run over to Morrow's place and see what I
- 11:20can get out of him. I wish you luck, Curlie. And by
- 11:22the way, how long have you been in business? Here? A bout
- 11:26of years? Who started the business? Tell you this? How'd you get
- 11:28into it? Well? She knew I was a zoologist, so she asked
- 11:31me where she could get some black woods spiders the eye Hada interested me in.
- 11:35I finally gave up what I was doing and came over here. I
- 11:37collected the spiders, and she collects collected the webs. We've been very successful.
- 11:41You know anything about her past? No, nothing, never talked much
- 11:46about it before. But why all these questions, Curtier, I just want
- 11:50to learn what I can before I talk tomorrow. Sorry, I don't know
- 11:52anything more than I've told you. All right, brother, wait here for
- 11:56the police. I'll have a talk with our friend Pete tomorrow eight morrow around
- 12:18Yeah, Jesus j office anybody with him? No, you could go with
- 12:22that you wanted. Thanks, I will come in eight morrow. Yeah,
- 12:41that's me. What do you want with me? I want to talk with
- 12:46you. Okay, you got the floor about you. Keep your hands on
- 12:48top of your that's while we talk. Well that's said. Still keep your
- 12:52hands in sight. Hey, who are you anyway? What do you work
- 12:56with me? I'm Nick carter Us. I don't want to talk to you.
- 13:00Okay, so you're in the carner. So what I just want to
- 13:03ask you if you know anything about this bump on the back of my head,
- 13:05bump on the I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe you don't,
- 13:09Maybe you do. You know kay Lewis? Yeah? Sure I know
- 13:13her? Good looking? Dan been not with her? Yeah? What's it
- 13:18to you? You know what business you was in? Sure? I knew
- 13:20about them spiders, and you also knew the webs were with a lot of
- 13:24money, didn't you? Hey, what are you getting there? You're trying
- 13:28to pin something only down? Did you telephone Kayler was about an hour ago?
- 13:33Huh oh, yeah, sure, sure I had to talk to What
- 13:39about why you're lying more? I'll stay right where you are. I want
- 13:45to have a little look around this office of yours. I don't know what
- 13:48you're trying to do cover, but I'm telling you I one of those boxes
- 13:52under your desk, Morrow, boxes, yes, boxes, What are they?
- 13:56They're tools? Mechanics tools. Yes, I suppose you shoved those tools
- 14:01out from under your desk and let me have a look at them. But
- 14:05there ain't nothing there. Don't try reaching for your gun again. Next time
- 14:11I layim lord, I'll shove those boxes out of here with your feet.
- 14:16I don't see why you're so interested in them boxes. They just enough.
- 14:20Why there's enough spider we having those cases to send you to the chair.
- 14:26The chair. You shouldn't have killed kay Lewis Morrow. I took the web
- 14:30Shore, but I didn't know anything to her, But you stole the web.
- 14:33Sure I got the ruin. It wasn't my fault. It was Well,
- 14:48who's doing the shooting this time? Was it? Nick? Or was
- 14:50it someone trying to kill Nick? Did Pete Marrow kill Kay Lewis? Or
- 14:54was it someone else? We'll see you in just a moment. I know

- 15:50Linux, ln dash X, Linax self polishing wax. You'll find all three
- 15:58great Linax Home Brightness and Ken Tall. The Miracle Wolf Finish had hardware painting
- 16:03department stores everywhere. Nick had just made Pete morrow small time gangs to admit
- 16:15that he had stolen the missing Spider webs when two shots were fired in rapid
- 16:18succession. It's a few minutes later. You must very Nick, neither hit
- 16:23you. Only the second one was aimed at me, Bessy. The first
- 16:26one went right through Pete's part. I dropped behind the desk, and the
- 16:30other one went over my head. Not yet try to get him, but
- 16:33he got away. Why would anyone want to kill Pete to keep him from
- 16:37talking too much? Probably Peter had just admitted he stole the webs and was
- 16:41about to tell me something else when he was shot. I imagine the killer
- 16:45himself was listening, and when Pete started confessing, shot him to keep him
- 16:48quiet. Did you get the yes, Both cases in my car. Now,
- 16:52I'm going to take them back to the Spider place. Raley should be
- 16:53there by. Now. You walked into something when you agreed to deliver those
- 16:57cases, didn't you? Apparently I did, But Here's what I called you,
- 17:00Petsy. I want you to look into our files. You have to
- 17:03gather all the information you can find on Kay Lewis and their business. Call
- 17:07me at the Spider Place as soon as you get it. There's something very
- 17:11peculiar going on around here someplace I never saw them. Piece of it,
- 17:26Nicks do We are always around when somebody gets killed, and I suppose you
- 17:30know nothing about It's the same as useful. Oh, I wouldn't say I
- 17:33know nothing about it, Raley, But I certainly don't have the solution all
- 17:37ready to hand over to you. Have you made any of your usual startling
- 17:40discoveries yet all of your wife christ cut here. I'm doing all right,
- 17:44a fine fine? And what have you found so far? Have we got
- 17:47the bullet that killed this Lewis woman? And it came from a forty five?
- 17:49That bullets gout? Who identified the killer for us? I doubt that,
- 17:53Rally, and quite you don't, because I'm pretty sure the bullet was
- 17:56fired from my gun. From your you mean news hundred, I mean nothing
- 18:02of the kind. After I was knocked out, someone stole my gun,
- 18:04shot Miss Lewis and left the gun on the floor beside her. God got
- 18:07it. That's the only real clue we had. Are clues rally, although
- 18:11I doubt that you would get much out of them. Why, For example,
- 18:15I know that Pete Morrow, small time gangster and black market operator,
- 18:18stole the spider webs that are missing. Pete Morrow, is it, hey,
- 18:21sus send it to Pete Morrow. That won't do any good rally?
- 18:25Why not Pete thought to be able to give us some d up on this.
- 18:27Pete is not going to tell anybody anything anymore. Someone put a slug
- 18:32through his head while I was talking to him. Another children. We ain't
- 18:34even solved this one yet. When you solve this one, Riley, if
- 18:37you do solve it, you'll have the answer to both of them. I
- 18:40believe the same person killed both Kay Lewis and Pete Morrow. Did you learn
- 18:45anything from Pete before he was killed? Only that he stole the webs and
- 18:48that someone else was back of it. Where are the webs? No?
- 18:51Outside? My Cary's safe, Nick. Maybe the killer will be bad to
- 18:53get them. They'll be safe enough. I left them in charge of one
- 18:56of your men out there. Hey, Jim, who's Jim tayloris his assistant?
- 19:03Jim Bowdman. Oh him, sure, he was here fire to go,
- 19:06but he said he was feeling pretty sick after kind of missus Lewis shot
- 19:08the way she was, so I let him go to the drug store something
- 19:11to make him feel better. How long has he been gone? Only a
- 19:15few minutes. Let me see you, Gosh, you reach longer than I
- 19:19thought. He's been gone about three quarters of an hour. He ought to
- 19:23have been back here before. This very interesting. What's going on out there
- 19:33at that time? Oh, Scott here, what's the trouble you? Well,
- 19:37mister Carter asked me to keep an eye on his car, so no
- 19:38one had Bob, but I just took a look at it. I found
- 19:42this fellow fooling around, so I brought him in. That's ridiculous. I
- 19:45didn't know it was Connor's car. What were you doing with it? I
- 19:49wasn't doing anything with it. I was on my way back from the drug
- 19:52store, and as I passed the car, I just happened to glance inside.
- 19:56I thought I recognized the cases we used to pack the spider webs in,
- 19:59and I was us having a look to have them to make sure.
- 20:00When when this dumb cop came up and grabbed me. Dumb cops? Did
- 20:04you say that? Chars CUTI go back and watch the car like you wis
- 20:08school? Yes, Jim, have you been at the drug store ever since?
- 20:15Donnant? Riley? Let you go for sure? I have. Oh,
- 20:18that's what i'd be doing, exactly what i'd like to know? Are
- 20:22you? And see? I haven't insinuating nothing. By the way, you
- 20:26said someone trying to break in here last night? That's right? Which door
- 20:30on right now? Yes, you can see the children march all over the
- 20:33outside where they're trying to break the log. That's just what I do want
- 20:36to see. All right, back, take your time, take your time.
- 20:40I got nothing else to do, but what you play around here?
- 20:44Shall I answer? Geutnant? Why shouldn't answer? Well, I didn't know,
- 20:47Now that you're in charge, Oh and answer sure? Sure? Hello,
- 20:52sure, Wait a minute, a car tell a home for you?
- 20:56Okay, my cheer about me? Boat? You said you got back here
- 21:02with them spiders he'd cut just before the killing this morning. That's right.
- 21:06The weather was bad for spiders, and I hadn't had much luck. I
- 21:08only got eleven spiders for twelve hours work, or sometimes I got as money
- 21:12as thirty five from maybe forty in the same length of time. This time,
- 21:17all I could time was eleven. Hardly worth the trouble. M h
- 21:21you say you got eleven spiders? Jim, Yes, you saw them when
- 21:25I brought them in this morning, So I did, so I did.
- 21:30How's your arithmetic rhythmetic? I don't get you. How much is one hundred
- 21:34and sixty and eleven added together? Are you being funny? Carter definitely not
- 21:41had one hundred and sixty and eleven. And see what you're getting? Any
- 21:42fool could asses at Nick? I know the answer myself. You get one
- 21:47hundred and seventy one. That's what I make a tour? Ally? What's
- 21:49is all about? Nick? That's count the spiders here in this room and
- 21:52see how many of there are? What do you want to do with that?
- 21:56For me? That's a satisfying my curiosity. Now what do you say
- 21:57you, Surrey? You are right hard right. Let's count the things and
- 22:02get it done so we can get to something important. This is important.
- 22:04Rally, you take that side, I'll take that one. Who were don't
- 22:11go, I'll shoot you do it? Your hands up high. He broke
- 22:15the charge and some of them spiders is rules in the implasons. Just step
- 22:18out of rally. They got back to it. Unless you get out the
- 22:22spiders don't get you, gentlemen, I will with my little forty five tell
- 22:26me he's gonna fight me. I got off rally. You're not yet,
- 22:29not yet but soon. I missed you in Pizte's office this morning, Carter,
- 22:33because I was in a hurry. But I won't miss you this time.
- 22:34You mean you killed Pete Morrow? I did just as I'm going to
- 22:37kill you. Thank you, am, And why not let's know what you'll
- 22:41see. You can't fool me that way, Carter. I'm no chump Goods
- 22:48all right? I take you out of night, I said, been one
- 22:52of the spiders down along my funny friend. Try and get under these good
- 22:56rally. Get some of the excel soft before I die. You're in the
- 22:59print. Take coming up there. You'll kill k didn't yes? Yes?
- 23:03Quick? And you kill Pete Marrow too, didn't you? Yes? Do
- 23:04something? He stole a whim as part of your day, didn't he for
- 23:08the love of that when your hurried out? Didn't he? Yes? Yes,
- 23:11yes, I'll find it? What you me? Would you do something
- 23:14before I saw yes, I'll give you. They have some selts. I
- 23:18want to save you for the electric chair. Well, nig, you had
- 23:37quite a day, yes, Bessy, quite a day. Now everything's quiet
- 23:41and peaceful. Spouse, you give out with the missing details. Did you
- 23:45know Jim Bowden was behind us and you started out? Oh? Not in
- 23:48first, Betsy, I didn't seem to be any motive for him to do
- 23:51it. But as soon as you told me that our file show kay Lewis's
- 23:53partner and not an employee, I got suspicious. Go on, tell me
- 24:00all about it, all right. Slave driver Jim Baldwin knew there was a
- 24:03big ship and of webs going out this morning, and he wanted it for
- 24:07himself, so he planned everything to look as if he couldn't possibly be mixed
- 24:11up at it. We told miss Lewis he was going out after a new
- 24:14batch of spiders, but instead he came back after dark and chiseled around the
- 24:17lock on the door to make it look as it's someone to try to get
- 24:19in. Oh, as soon as I examined the door, I knew it
- 24:22was a phony attempt. Then he arranged with someone to call miss Lewis at
- 24:26a certain time. This morning, just as he got back in with his
- 24:29eleven spiders, he answered the phone himself and told us it was pieced.
- 24:33Morrow said he recognized his voice that gave Moro when alibi, as well as
- 24:37himself. Then he knocked me out, and Morrow, as they had arranged,
- 24:41came in and took the webs. Jim says he never planned to kill
- 24:45miss Lewis, and I think that's true. When he found me there,
- 24:48he was afraid as he hadn't expected any witnesses, so probably thought it would
- 24:52look more legitimate if she were killed, So he took my gun and shot
- 24:56her, then tapped himself in the head hard enough to raise a good pump,
- 24:59just to fool Then, if you hadn't found the parking ticket for Marrow's
- 25:02garage, you wouldn't have had any reason to suspect Marrow, won't you.
- 25:06No, that was a lucky break for me, not Formorrow. How did
- 25:11Jim get away to kill Marrow? He stayed at the spider lab, didn't
- 25:14he Well? After Riley got there, he talked Riley into letting him go
- 25:17to the drug store for some medicine. Instead drove Tomorrow's place and got there
- 25:21in time to overhear our conversation. Then, being afraid Morrow was going to
- 25:23confess that he Jim was behind the deal, shot him and on his way
- 25:29back he saw the wedds in your car and tried to steal them again.
- 25:30Right, Nick, And if Jim didn't go out gathering spiders as he said
- 25:36he was going to do, when did he get those eleven spiders he brought
- 25:38back with him? Took them out of the stock at the lab when he
- 25:41was there last night, trying to make the lock look as if someone had
- 25:44try to break in. Oh, then that was why you wanted to count
- 25:47the spiders exactly, Bessy, I get it. Miss Lewis told us in
- 25:51the morning that she had one hundred and sixty spiders on hand. Remember well,
- 25:55if Jim had brought in eleven more, that would have made one hundred
- 25:57and seventy one in all right, So I wanted to count them to see
- 26:00how many there actually were. And when I started to do that, Jim
- 26:03knew the game was up because he knew we'd find only one hundred and sixty
- 26:07which had been there before. So we tried to get rid of us by
- 26:11breaking several of the jars in order to let some of the black widows out,
- 26:14hoping they'd bite us. That one did him instead. Yes, I
- 26:18saw one heading for him, so I kept talking, hoping he wouldn't notice
- 26:21it. Then when it did bite him, I shot his gun out of
- 26:23his hand. It's an old story, isn't it, As has happened many
- 26:26times before, a widow caused his downfall poor man. In just a moment,
- 26:45Nick and Passy will bring you a preview next week's exciting case. But

- 28:26what's your story about next week? Passy and I went to the races
- 28:30one afternoon, just before the season closed, and so one of the most
- 28:33exciting races I've ever witnessed. But as the winning jockey came down the home
- 28:37stretch, he suddenly fell from his horse and was instantly killed. And Nick,
- 28:41being a detective born and very instantly snail the murder. Nothing to go
- 28:45on. Just one of his hunts, wasn't murdered Nick. Even in the
- 28:48absence of proof, can I knew it was murder? The only job was
- 28:52to get something concrete in the way of evidence, which Nick, being Nick,
- 28:56presided to do, much to the annoyance of a great many people try
- 29:00to do something about it. What do you call a story of yours?
- 29:03Nick, Death Goes to the Post or the Mystery of the Murdered Jockey.
- 29:07And that's all for now. So long the pay next week. So long
- 29:11everybody, and so long to both of you. We'll be looking forward to
- 29:14seeing you next week as usual. Next week. At the same time,
- 29:33listen to another curious experience of Nick Carter Master Detective entitled Death Goes to the
- 29:40Post on Nick Carter and the Mystery of the Murdered Jockey. Nick Carter Master

- 29:56with Helen Chot's Passy. Original music is played by Lou White, and the
- 30:00programs are written and directed by Jock McGregor. Nick Connor. Master Detective is
- 30:07presented at this time and over these same stations each week by the three great

- 30:15Polish, and Linux self polishing wax created by ACME, America's great producer of
- 30:21ACME Fine Quality paints. This is Ken Powell speaking for the thousands of Linux
- 30:26dealers all over America and saying, so long until next week. This is
- 30:30mutual welcome back. Well, and it started out a guy I didn't even
- 30:56intend to murder. I guess with comments about tangled webs we weave would just
- 31:03be a little too much on the Pannel meter. Well, now we turn
- 31:06to listener comments and feedback, and I have a comment from Javier regarding Nick
- 31:17Carter. Hi, And I'm been biting my tongue about Nick Carter since the
- 31:21beginning, but can't hold it any longer. Still don't know what to make
- 31:26of this series. It started with some situations that were frankly insulting to the
- 31:30listener's intelligence, being trapped in a glass box that was being slowly filled with
- 31:34water and using a glass cutter not to cut around the lock or to cut
- 31:41a big hole to crawl out, but to cut a hole from which to
- 31:45get his hand out and pick the lock. I mean, really, This
- 31:48was made worse with the intro in which they say that Nick Carter was the
- 31:52best Detective. Ever, this annoyed me so much that I changed the name
- 31:57of the series in my mind to the Insulting Adventures of Nick Carter. Then
- 32:02the series got a lot better and I started to enjoy it. That is
- 32:07until episode twelve thirty, which is just ridiculous, in which at the end,
- 32:12someone who had an employee, his whole family, and his dog murdered
- 32:15in cold blood and was almost murdered herself, says she's quite fond of the
- 32:21murderer and doesn't want to call the police. Then the murderer, who is
- 32:24in the same room as four people, including Nick Carter, says that when
- 32:29you weren't looking, how could they not see it? I've just drunk the
- 32:32bottle of poison that I happened to have on me justin gaze hopes the series
- 32:37gets better, because at the moment, I don't know if I'm going to
- 32:39get a decent mystery or a ludicrous one. Did you say we have over
- 32:44a year of it? Anyway, love all the other shows, and I
- 32:46will still listen to Nick Carter. Thanks for all the hard work and for
- 32:52many hours of listening pleasure. Cannot imagine driving without this podcast. Well,
- 32:59thanks so much. For the comments, and we have a total of about
- 33:02two and a half years and were most of the way through the first year
- 33:07of this series. I don't know whether it was so much an insult to
- 33:15people's intelligence. In fact, I'm fairly certain it wasn't, but a tendency
- 33:19for I think, particularly some people, older radio listeners in particular, who
- 33:23had begun their first exposure to drama probably being theater to a really suspend this
- 33:31belief and just let their imagination go. Plus, I think that this was
- 33:37also really written in the tradition of the pulp stories, which had all of
- 33:44these improbabilities. And even more so, I've read some of the Nick Carter
- 33:49pulp stories and some of these theories they had, particularly about electricity, were
- 33:53well interesting, to say the least. After the whole glass cutter thing.
- 33:59I kind of really set my expectations for this series, and I think that
- 34:04there are certain expectations of realism and believability that you have for a show,
- 34:12and that you know with Dragnet it's very very high, and Adam twelve very
- 34:17very high. With a lot of modern shows, if I watched a lot
- 34:22of them, it would be, you know, like a CS. I
- 34:25think it'd be very very high this one. I have a standard of believability
- 34:31for Nick Carter similar to that for which I have for the A team.
- 34:37I do hold it to a higher standard than I might oh Spider Man,
- 34:40and usually I can forgive most of their lapses into silliness as long as Nick
- 34:45Carter's doing something amazing, death define and generally stunning. And this really,
- 34:53as I've said before, this series really built on the pulp fiction ideals,
- 35:00and so a lot of the stuff in here, no matter how improbable,
- 35:05you can trace it back to the polls. But thanks so much for the
- 35:07comments. Do appreciate it, and I hope you enjoy not only the shows
- 35:14we were playing before, but also those that we are adding this week.
- 35:20Well, that will do it for today. Coming up tomorrow is yours truly,
- 35:24Johnny Dollar. And don't have to admit it feels like it's been a
- 35:28while since we've heard from him, even though it's just been a week.
- 35:30So I'll look forward to bringing you yours truly, Johnny Dollar, and then
- 35:35join us back here next Thursday for another episode of Nick Carter. The Meanwhile,
