- 0:00Cut me last, Wendom down cover the Cask the Crown, but it's so
- 0:11call you from the rout of town, Agree from the crowd, wet.
- 0:25This is Matt from Circada Stone. We have a new single coming out called
- 0:30in the Crossfire. We're pretty pretty excited to finally get it out there,
- 0:35and it's out through X Music and take it away. Christ Thanks for join
- 0:40us this afternoon. Brother, Thanks for having me my pleasure. I say
- 0:45as you say. Circada Stone premiere your latest single, in the Crossfire by
- 0:49Heavy this Friday. So tell us a bit about the song. It's just,
- 0:54you know, it's one of these riffs that I had lined around for
- 0:56a long time. I couldn't really do anything with it, and then and
- 1:00then one day it just sort of all happened in like, you know,
- 1:02half an hour. I just I just bashed this song together and and jotted
- 1:06out of these lyrics and I was just I just was I just sort of
- 1:07found my focus, you know, and it all came together really really fast,
- 1:11and uh, and we demoed the song and it was it was like
- 1:17the last song that we wrote for the record, But it's probably the most
- 1:23sort of radio friendly rock single we've got, so it worked out pretty good.
- 1:32Well, now I'm usually coming out with a film mate, but I
- 1:34haven't had a chance to watch it yet. So how does it tie in
- 1:38with the song? Yeah, the video it's a hard one. You know,
- 1:41when you're trying to make videos, you're always you're always trying to think
- 1:44of the next fucking thing. You're sorry, the next thing you can do,
- 1:49the next idea, and and and I really didn't have an idea.
- 1:55So we were just looking at the concept of conflict being you know, taking
- 2:00the title of the song rather than going into rather than delving into the lyrics,
- 2:04just just sort of keeping it pretty broad, you know. And we
- 2:07found this this awesome old school like World War One movie and we just we
- 2:15just kind of use footage from that, and it looks fantastic, just being
- 2:19being caught in some sort of conflict, directly straight conflict, basically life and
- 2:24death stuff. And you know, we'll just cut between scenes of the band
- 2:29and scenes of that, and it's it brushed up really great. Cool and
- 2:32Uh. In the cross far as the lead single from your new album,
- 2:36Future Echoes, So why choose that song to represent the album? I just
- 2:40think it's the most obvious Forefront song to push. You know, it's it's
- 2:46got the it's got the pace, and you know, we're predominantly band that
- 2:50generally doesn't push pace. We love our sludgy, slow riffs, so you
- 2:55know, the label we're very eager to push the faster bas song. So
- 3:00I think it was it was a pretty obvious choice. Yeah, I'm happy.
- 3:05I'm happy it's gonna be the first song. Yeah, Well, tell
- 3:08us a bit more about future echoes and brow and what you're going for musically
- 3:12over the whole album. Well, yeah, look, it's it's a different
- 3:15album to our first two records. Anyone who's heard our stuff, each record
- 3:20kind of takes on a bit of its own form, you know, and
- 3:23I think, you know, the first record did its thing, The second
- 3:24record was a little it was a little darker and slower, and this record's
- 3:30sort of borrowed a bit of both. I've purposely tried to put a bit
- 3:34more pace into it because I think we really lacked that, which was which
- 3:38was a good good thing for us, because something new. But the songs
- 3:43that are, you know, they just intertwined really nicely, and it's a
- 3:46bit of a journey. This record. Overall, I think it's it's probably
- 3:51sonically our best sounding record. I think it's probably pushing boundaries like the last
- 3:55record did, probably even a bit further. There's some really angry stuff,
- 3:59there's some really light stuff, and it's it's what you do expect from us
- 4:02if you first before. But you know, I think just a bit more
- 4:04so that next step, Yeah cool? Can we elaborate on that a bit
- 4:08more? Mane go a bit deeper? Like you said, pushing the boundaries,
- 4:11like what you in what way? Just riffs, just bigger riffs,
- 4:16bigger rifts. I've tried to push my vocal a little bit more in spots
- 4:20I always I'm always I always try to. I always genuinely sing in my
- 4:25comfort zone. So to try and get out of that was quite hard for
- 4:30me. You leave yourself pretty vulnerable, but it's it's you know, when
- 4:34you do it, it's great because you can look back and you grow as
- 4:39you do these things. So yeah, I think it, you know,
- 4:43we've pushed boundaries. As far as sonics, I think I think that the
- 4:46album itself sounds fantastic. It's it's brushed up really great. The riffs are
- 4:51there's some really big riffs. There's a couple of really big sludgie rifts which
- 4:57kind of leans on the second record, and then and the and some of
- 5:00the maladies of that we've borrowed from the first record is just touch tapping back
- 5:05into that, just some of the color of the first record, I think.
- 5:12So it really is a blend of these records, but it's its own
- 5:15thing as well. You know, it definitely takes on a few There's a
- 5:17couple of songs. It's a song called h Fear Within Fear within our Grasp,
- 5:24which is probably the heaviest song we've ever sort of heaviest and slowest and
- 5:28sludgiest song we've ever had. So I'm really I'm really excited to come with
- 5:31people to hear it. Yeah, well, when is it actually coming out?
- 5:34Broight, It's coming out at the end of May May thirty first,
- 5:40I think it is, so get ready for it. Get ready on the
- 5:45fucker. The press release alludes to it being a new chapter in the band's
- 5:49history, like how so, oh, you know, the next just the
- 5:55next phase, the next My son's drumming with us now, which is really
- 5:59awesome. He he came on board kind of in a bit of a we're
- 6:02in a bit of a die spot, you know. Our last drummer it
- 6:06just wasn't working out for him. And we were literally set up to record,
- 6:12like we were in the studio and had a drum kit set up,
- 6:14and he pulled the pin and you know, and it's okay. He needed
- 6:17to do that. The timing wasn't great, but he needed to do that.
- 6:20And my son, you know, he's grown up listening to all my
- 6:25stuff. He's listened to the bands I've listened to growing up as well,
- 6:27and so he just kind of like we just tried him out for one night.
- 6:30We just got him in there and said he had the song and have
- 6:32a go, and he just instantly nailed it. You know, he just
- 6:36knew exactly what to do and and it was great. So we did a
- 6:41whole record with him and he stuck around and he's just added a real new
- 6:46what could I say, there's a real youthful sort of push again with this
- 6:51band, which is great, and it is it's a new chapter because it's
- 6:55a new album straight up, you know, it's another it's another part of
- 6:59the legacy. I guess for any band when they when they commit to a
- 7:00record and release it. It's part of their part of their history. So
- 7:04yeah, that's kind of that's kind of it. Really well, Its Echoes
- 7:09is your first album with your new label ex music mate, So how how
- 7:13has that relationship been developing. Yeah, it's great. I mean, you
- 7:16know Tim, We've known Tim for quite a few years, and we put
- 7:21our last record out to another label, and Tim was just always just kind
- 7:25of keeping an eye on us, uh, and when and when that kind
- 7:29of when we went out separate ways from that label, I just I just
- 7:31shot them a message and said, hey, would you be interested in putting
- 7:34out our record? And he was like, absolutely, I'll be interested in
- 7:36putting out your record. So it just kind of happened real easily, and
- 7:41it was. It's been very cohesive and we've been working together. It's been
- 7:45great. He seems fantastic. The whole label's great. Now. We sort
- 7:49of touched on this briefly made, but I want to go and dive into
- 7:53it a bit deeper here, Like, how would you say Sakada Stone's sound
- 7:57has changed musically from their debut Chance Collide in twenty sixteen Food Future Echoes.
- 8:05Yeah, Look, I just think the rifts have gotten a bit heavier.
- 8:07The production has gotten better, that's for sure. But you know, you
- 8:13can tell it's the same band. You know, it's like there's differences,
- 8:16but there's not like we're not like changing, We're not trying a different genre
- 8:22or anything like where we're sticking to what we do because we do it quite
- 8:24naturally, you know, it's not like we're it's not like we try to
- 8:28write songs and to deliver something. They just come out very naturally. So,
- 8:33I mean, how does it differ to the first record. I think
- 8:37the riffs are bigger, and the production is better, and probably the vocal
- 8:41the vocal melodies kind of explore just a bit further overall. But I really
- 8:46love that first record. It was a big moment in my life. I'm
- 8:52supposed to like whether your son coming into band because you mentioned that injection of
- 8:56youth, like these days music music trends, I guess, and the fashions
- 9:01in music changing daily. Like having having someone young there that's sort of got
- 9:05their thing on the pulse with that a bit too, it sort of it'll
- 9:07help you moving forward totally. Yeah, totally. You know, he's always
- 9:11showing me new bands that i've never heard of, you know, and because
- 9:13I'm stuck in my ways, I'm still stuck in nineteen ninety five. But
- 9:20he'll always, you know, he'll he'll show me some new band and and
- 9:22and there's so much cool stuff out there, and he incorporates a lot of
- 9:26that, a lot of this this stuff into the way drums and and it's
- 9:30it's great. It's just you know, on the when we were recording,
- 9:33you know, he would, you know, because I was producing the record,
- 9:35he would he would obviously do the things I was asking him, but
- 9:37then he'd throw in stuff and go what about this and what about that?
- 9:41And I'd be like, that's fucking great. Do more of that. I
- 9:43didn't even think of that, you know. So you know, that's the
- 9:46beauty of someone fresh coming in with fresh ideas, and I guess a whole
- 9:52different perspective. I listened to you and your gee's coming up. Bro,
- 9:56you've got one that stay gold in Melbourne on July eighth with with the Midnight
- 10:01Devil's Shotgun Mistress and label Masix Galiba like it. That sounds like she's going
- 10:05to be a cracker of an eye. Yeah, that's that's I was a
- 10:11July eighth. Yeah, yeah, July eight eighth is that one. We
- 10:15actually have our album launch before that in May. We're having an album launch
- 10:18on May thirty first, the day of the album release. Well, let's
- 10:22talk about that one person make because that one's more important. Well that one
- 10:24is more important, but actually more important than that one is this this Saturday
- 10:28night. We're actually playing at the at the Toe upstairs for the single release
- 10:33of in the Crosswire. So that's the most important. But the album launch
- 10:37will be important because we're going to put a lot of effort into that.
- 10:41It's going to be a big gig at the lead Beatter Hotel in Melbourne.
- 10:46That sounds like you've got a big coming up live mate, So we can
- 10:50keep up to date with it. Where's the best place to The best place
- 10:54to keep up with us probably on the on the socials these days is and
- 10:58how it works it is, but yeah, I'm not a very social person,
- 11:01so I got no fucking idea. We've got one of those link trees
- 11:05link tree circatastone you can find us. You can find everything about us on

- 11:26link tree. Find it on the web somewhere you got it, brother,
- 11:31all right, well, thanks very much for your time today, mad absolutely
