- 1:51he's been on a show. He's a very busy guy,
- 1:53award-winning. He's doing so many different
- 1:55things. If I'm not mistaken, I, he was
- 1:57doing something with the Olympics a while ago.
- 1:59It was not pickleball. I I do, it was pickleball too.
- 2:02I was the last time I, you know, it pops into my brain because we
- 2:05interviewed so many people. We're now talking to Emmy
- 2:07award-winning sports broadcaster David Benz.
- 2:11David, what's up on? Hey fellas, great to be on oh
- 2:14look at that look at that. You guys got the tinkscape logo
- 2:17up. I love it.
- 2:17That's amazing. You're a sexy man.
- 2:19You're a sexy man working on all the.
- 2:21Photos loving it. You're a sexy man, man.
- 2:23I, I, I don't know. I don't know who your wife is
- 2:26and I don't I, I and she probably knows you're a sexy
- 2:29man. You got some good looks over
- 2:31there and you make some interesting faces when you're on
- 2:33the broadcast. So we love that about you, man.
- 2:36You're a great. Person, I appreciate it, man.
- 2:38It's a it's a lot of fun. Yeah, the, the the Olympics were
- 2:42a while ago. That was 2016.
- 2:43I remember you told telling us that.
- 2:45Yeah, but the, but the pickleball, the pickleball keeps
- 2:48coming, man. I'm doing and and it's amazing
- 2:50to me. You know, you probably didn't
- 2:51have me on the show to talk pickleball.
- 2:53I can hear people reaching for the, you know, the phone swiping
- 2:56away right now. But the but the pickleball just
- 2:58keeps getting bigger, man. I mean, it's unbelievable.
- 3:01What do you Dave, what do you think the attraction to
- 3:03pickleball is? Like why?
- 3:04Why did it blow up like gangbusters?
- 3:06Like it there's courts going up and I'm in the middle of
- 3:08nowhere, Nebraska, and there's courts going up everywhere.
- 3:12It's it's. Twofold one that it's it's
- 3:16anybody can play right? And most people once they get
- 3:19over once you check your ego, because a lot of people they're
- 3:22resistant to play it because they're like, oh, it doesn't
- 3:24look like athletic Look how lame those people are.
- 3:26It's a terrible name. Whatever, I'm not going to play
- 3:28that. But once you get past that and
- 3:30you get out and you actually try it, it is a lot of fun and it's
- 3:34a great equalizer. Like you can play, you know, 280
- 3:38year olds could play against 220 year olds and it could be
- 3:41competitive if the 80 year olds are, are good and skilled and
- 3:44know what they're doing. Like it's, you know, it's not
- 3:47just about athleticism. So in, you know, so entire
- 3:51families of multiple generations can play and I've seen it and,
- 3:55you know, and it, it's it, it doesn't take up a ton of space.
- 3:58You can get basically 4 pickleball courts on one tennis
- 4:01court. So it's a better use of space.
- 4:04And then as far as like the sport overall, I mean, you know,
- 4:07obviously, thank God, COVID is, you know, finally feeling like
- 4:11it's a ways back in the rearview Mirror Now.
- 4:13But there's no doubt Kovid was probably the best thing that
- 4:16ever happened to pickleball because people were looking for
- 4:19things to do and they needed to get out.
- 4:22And so, you know, the, the, the, the equipment sales just
- 4:25exploded and, and that was really, you know, put lighter
- 4:29fluid on, on the flame that was burning already.
- 4:32Speaking of lighting lighter fluid, the Timberwolves had some
- 4:37new attractions to the organization over the last past
- 4:40year and one of them is a new owner.
- 4:42Alex Rodriguez is now Co owners of the Timberwolves.
- 4:47Timberwolves and the Wolves now have a guy that's never played
- 4:51professional basketball, was a professional baseball player and
- 4:55has a unique personality. What were your thoughts with
- 4:59Alex Rodriguez being now one of the owners of the Timberwolves?
- 5:04Well, I mean, that's obviously been in the works for a while.
- 5:06He, you know, he and his partner, Marc Laurie, they
- 5:09bought a minority interest on him.
- 5:10And what was it back in maybe either, you know, maybe 2020.
- 5:15And so there was a transition plan in place all along.
- 5:18What really made news was that the owner, Glenn Taylor, he, you
- 5:23know, and again, I, I wasn't, I didn't dive into all the, all
- 5:27the, you know, fine points of the deal, but it's from what I
- 5:30knew a Rod and Marc, Lori, they, they missed a payment that they
- 5:35were supposed to make. And so the Timberwolves owner
- 5:39like, Oh yeah, by the way, from the time that he agreed to sell
- 5:42it to Lori and and Alex, you know, the, the valuation of the
- 5:46franchise, you know, I think it went up like 180%.
- 5:49I don't know if it quite double, but it went up pretty darn near
- 5:52double. And also in that time the
- 5:54franchise went from being garbage to being, you know, a
- 5:57legitimate contender. So, so the second they missed
- 6:01that payment, you know, Glenn Taylor was like, yeah, you guys
- 6:04have defaulted. I'm going to keep the majority
- 6:06ownership. So it had to go to arbitration.
- 6:08But you know, a Rod and Mark Laurie, they they now are
- 6:11officially, you know, in the majority ownership control.
- 6:15And, you know, I think it's probably long term a good thing
- 6:19for, for the city of Minnesota, you know, because they have at
- 6:24least publicly expressed a commitment to keeping it there.
- 6:28You know, the, the, the, the question in my mind that it
- 6:31really effects that franchise is can they get a new arena?
- 6:36Because guys like Target Center, it's I'm not 100% sure if it is
- 6:41the oldest NBA arena, but if it's not the oldest, I can't
- 6:45really think I'm any older off the top of my head.
- 6:47Like it is it in, in the problem is you know how like all, you
- 6:52know, Camden Yards kind of started the new trend with all
- 6:55the great baseball stadiums, right?
- 6:57Camden Yards is still amazing today, but anything that was
- 7:00like built the year or two before that, it's not it's not
- 7:04really any good in in the Timberwolves, they built Target
- 7:07Center like in 1990 and then all the arenas started getting good
- 7:11in like 1993. And so it's like, it's a really
- 7:14old, you know, 35 year old arena And it they need a new arena
- 7:19badly, especially considering if anybody's been to the Twin
- 7:24Cities, like you go to a Minnesota Wild game over in
- 7:27Saint Paul and you go to Xcel Energy Center, like that place
- 7:31is a palace and it's amazing and it's a pleasure to go there.
- 7:35Target Center, it's like the parking is terrible.
- 7:37The arena is terrible, you know, like they really need an
- 7:41upgrade. So the question is, can, you
- 7:43know, can they get that kind of money?
- 7:45And can they get a commitment from the city to be able to
- 7:47build something new? And that's going to be, I think
- 7:50one of the biggest challenges in the immediate future for for a
- 7:53Rod and Mark Laurie going for it.
- 7:55So Anthony Edwards, very outspoken during the playoffs,
- 7:57obviously had a very good series against the Golden State
- 8:00Warriors, but complaining only took thirteen shots and said a
- 8:03bunch of other things throughout the playoffs.
- 8:04We had a Tim Roy, the Warriors played by play broadcaster.
- 8:07He said even as an opposing opposing broadcaster, he didn't
- 8:09have a problem with it. Or your thoughts to Anthony
- 8:11Edwards, both on and off the courts?
- 8:14You know, I think that, listen, I feel like there's times that I
- 8:19watch Anthony Edwards and I feel like he is, you know, I mean, he
- 8:23there he does things that that look like Jordan, right, But
- 8:27he's still lacking that total killer instinct for 48 minutes.
- 8:32And he also, you know, I, I, I don't love the complaining man.
- 8:36I mean, I get it. I mean, you're looking at that.
- 8:39I mean, that's just ridiculous that that he can get up and do
- 8:42those kind of things with without even batting an eye.
- 8:45But you know, if you're really going to be a leader, man, I
- 8:49mean, you got to be able to wait to keep that and check.
- 8:53And you can't be getting teased all the time.
- 8:55And you can say what you want to the to the media afterwards.
- 8:58That's fine. I got no problem with him being
- 9:00outspoken. But I feel like you, you got to
- 9:04you got to figure out a way to keep it in check on the floor,
- 9:06man, you know, and let your let your play do the talking, which
- 9:10he does a lot of the time, but he doesn't do it 100% of the
- 9:14time. And if you're really going to be
- 9:16in that stratosphere of great, great players, it's got to be
- 9:21100% of the time, man. It's not just about whether you
- 9:23can get up and dunk. It's about whether or not you
- 9:26could carry your team. And you know, I think, listen,
- 9:29he's still what is he? He's 23.
- 9:31He's a. Baby, he's a baby.
- 9:34He's still got he's he hasn't even come close to reaching the
- 9:38zenith yet. But you.
- 9:39Said it best the guy doesn't shut his mouth.
- 9:41He was on he was on that Netflix gold medal, you know, run and he
- 9:46said it right in front of the former president of the United
- 9:49States and he asked Joel Embiid, what do you think about Anthony
- 9:53Edwards? And he says he's all right.
- 9:55And and then you hear Anthony Edwards come up on the truth.
- 9:58And then and he that's what he said.
- 10:01He called himself the truth. And then all of a sudden when
- 10:03people were asking him, quote, UN quote, are you the face of
- 10:06United States basketball? He couldn't answer that.
- 10:09He says, I don't want to be considered the face of United
- 10:12States basketball when you're trying to be the next or you're
- 10:16comparing yourself to Michael Jordan esque.
- 10:18You can't go out there and say, Hey, I don't want to be the face
- 10:21of United States basketball. It makes them look really,
- 10:23really bad. Yeah.
- 10:24And until you've done something, the only thing I will say and
- 10:28is, is, you know, I would love to see, wouldn't we all?
- 10:31I would love to see like what the daily, you know, grind of
- 10:36Michael Jordan's career in his early 20s would have looked
- 10:40like, you know, with social media and everybody having a
- 10:44having a camera and on on their phones at all times.
- 10:47And every like, I mean, it is a different animal in that regard.
- 10:52And, you know, but I, I, I suspect Jordan would have kept
- 10:56it together. And that's the you know, and I'm
- 10:58not saying the wheels have completely come off with with
- 11:00that words. I feel like he just needs to,
- 11:03you know, he, he still has some maturation process to, to go
- 11:07through to get to that level. And I do think he's capable of
- 11:11doing it. But you know, it's it, you know
- 11:14he is still young, but it it's got to start to happen sooner
- 11:17rather than later. Yeah, I'm going to piggyback on
- 11:20that like and and you obviously see him more.
- 11:22We see him from afar. You you kind of get AI guess, an
- 11:25in depth and and up close and personal aspect of of who he is.
- 11:30And he said, you know, couldn't answer be in the face like you
- 11:33seeing him in his mannerisms. We see it, you know, from afar.
- 11:36Do you think he has that in him to to be 1?
- 11:38Not not necessarily the face, but one of the faces moving
- 11:41forward being his age and and the athletic ability that, like
- 11:45you said, he does it not. I mean, he probably do in his
- 11:47sleep honestly. Yeah, I mean, I think he does.
- 11:51But you know, again, it's all about and I guess he's got good
- 11:55people in his corner, right? Because I know he's got a good
- 11:57relationship with LeBron and, you know, love or hate LeBron,
- 12:00there's no question of LeBron has figured out how to navigate
- 12:03those waters, right? I mean, sure, his name comes up
- 12:06in controversial stuff every now and again and whatever.
- 12:09But for the most part, he's pretty much, you know, been on
- 12:13the right path. And I know that, you know, I
- 12:16know that Anthony Edwards has a good relationship with LeBron.
- 12:18So I think that's a good thing. And, you know, kind of take some
- 12:21pages out of that book. And I do think he is getting
- 12:25better. And I saw to answer your
- 12:26question, I do think it's there and I think it will happen.
- 12:30But and I and, and you know, The thing is, I don't know how many
- 12:32people know this about Edwards, you know, his upbringing, but
- 12:36like he definitely, you know, he is freakishly athletic, but he's
- 12:40worked his butt off, man. When he was in high school, like
- 12:43he, you know, he went to a prep school that was like 2 1/2 hours
- 12:47from his house in Atlanta and he had to go, he had to leave his
- 12:50house every morning at like 4:35 in the morning to get school in
- 12:53time to go get shots up before class.
- 12:56And I mean, that's a level of dedication when you're talking
- 12:58about being, you know, 15, 16 years old.
- 13:01So if he's got that level of dedication, I'm sure he can
- 13:05apply that to doing this. But, you know, he's also, you
- 13:08know, you're coming to the league and you're young and a
- 13:10lot of things are thrown at you. And, you know, a friend of mine,
- 13:12Chris Hein, who does a great job covering the Timberwolves for
- 13:16the Minneapolis Star Tribune, he just put out a book.
- 13:19In fact, I, I, you know what? Give me one second to go off
- 13:22camera here because I'm going to give Chris a plug because he
- 13:24deserves it. Yeah, we know Chris.
- 13:26We know Chris. Yeah.
- 13:28OK. Yeah.
- 13:28So Chris, I don't know if you guys have had him not yet, but
- 13:30he just put out his book and you can get it in the you get it on
- 13:34Amazon. And I literally just got it like
- 13:372 days ago. So I have not read it yet, which
- 13:39I'm dying to read it. But I have heard from, you know,
- 13:43from some of my friends who have read it that there's a great
- 13:46story in it about when Anthony Edwards, Gerson, Rostas.
- 13:51So of course now is with the Knicks, which by the way, that
- 13:54was the whole Coldplay thing. I don't know if you guys have
- 13:57talked about that, but Gerson went went through that himself
- 13:59back then when he was in Minnesota.
- 14:02But the there's a story in the AMP book that when Gerson first
- 14:08called Anthony Edwards, when they have the number one pick
- 14:11and they and he called Anthony Edwards to tell him that, you
- 14:14know, they were going to probably take him with the
- 14:16number one pick. Like the call was set up and
- 14:20Anthony Edwards answered the call from his bed with no shirt
- 14:25on. And you know, so and Gerson told
- 14:28him he's like, have you lost your mind?
- 14:31Like, you know, we're we're thinking about taking you as the
- 14:35number one overall pick in the NBA draft.
- 14:38And like, you don't even have the courtesy to like get out of
- 14:41your bed and put a shirt on. Like, you know, but but then
- 14:44again, he got picked anyway. So it's like, you know, what's
- 14:48the lesson learned there? And that's the problem right now
- 14:52to me, Anthony Edwards and by the way, we are talking to Emmy
- 14:54award-winning sports broadcaster David Benz, Timberwolves
- 14:59broadcaster, also San Francisco Giants, the 49ers recently
- 15:03founded ticket company Tick Scape.
- 15:05We'll talk about that in just a few moments.
- 15:07Anthony Edwards is a unique personality.
- 15:09We all know what he is and and the talent that he brings to the
- 15:12basketball court. The problem with Anthony Edwards
- 15:14really stands for what he does off the court, how he responds
- 15:19to certain things in the media after the basketball games and
- 15:22he throws his teammates under the bus.
- 15:25He's not a team leader. He's it's been proven that he
- 15:28doesn't know how to lead A-Team. Carl Anthony Towns, he could.
- 15:31Now, I don't know what his relationship with Karl Anthony
- 15:34Towns when he was there. I don't know.
- 15:35Karl Anthony Towns, he was traded to the Knicks.
- 15:38He was upset that the Timberwolves traded him to the
- 15:40Knicks and they thought, obviously he thought at the time
- 15:43they didn't really get anything. And and then he started to take
- 15:46shots at the players that they traded for.
- 15:49And then everything started to turn around in the second-half
- 15:52of the season and he zippered his lip and look what he did in
- 15:55the playoffs and he's strong coaches under the bus.
- 15:58The problem with Anthony Edwards is controlling his lips.
- 16:01That has been his problem. And when when you have players
- 16:04like that, like Kyrie Irving, who doesn't shut his damn mouth
- 16:09and he opens up his mouth in bad situations, as his flat ass and
- 16:13his flat brain has said, the earth is flat.
- 16:16The problem is when you have talented players of that
- 16:19magnitude and you go out there and throw your team under the
- 16:22bus, it makes you look stupid. Now, you know, Dave, we, we've
- 16:26seen this many, many times with different players and we we talk
- 16:28about Michael Jordan, how special Michael Jordan is.
- 16:31When you look at guys like Anthony Edwards and you're
- 16:35trying to compare him to guys like Michael Jordan, could you
- 16:37really compare him to Michael Jordan?
- 16:39Michael Jordan was an assassin. When he went on the court, he
- 16:42wanted to completely cut your head off.
- 16:45This guy goes on the court, if he misses a shot, he sit there
- 16:49and what, he sits there on the sidelines whining and whippering
- 16:52to the coach. Get me back out that couch.
- 16:54I only got 10 shots in the whole game or in the fourth quarter.
- 16:57To me that's a problem when you don't know how to control.
- 17:00Yourself. The other thing Jordan would
- 17:02have went and got shots right. I mean, you know, go go get
- 17:05yourself some shots, man, you know, like get yourself open.
- 17:08I'm and there's a difference between getting shots and being
- 17:10a ball log, but like make yourself available, man beat
- 17:13your defender to the point where they got to give you the ball,
- 17:15you know, but again, I think it will happen, man.
- 17:19I mean, we're talking about guy with a ton of talent and I, you
- 17:23know, I, I don't know that there's, I don't know that
- 17:26there's, you know, three other guys in the league that I would
- 17:28trade him for right now. I really don't, you know, the
- 17:30list is short, but again, that the shine could start to come
- 17:35off if he doesn't take that next step this year.
- 17:37And and that's going to be, you know, that's going to be what
- 17:40everybody's going to be watching.
- 17:41And if I was listening, if I was in his camp, the one thing I
- 17:44would tell him I would to do is man, and, and maybe he has
- 17:47already, but I would, I'd be like, dude, you need a full time
- 17:51publicist that's around you at all times.
- 17:53Like you don't send out, you're you're off social media, you're
- 17:56not sending out any tweets. Like, you know, you're not like,
- 18:00don't, you're not doing any of it.
- 18:01Like you're not doing anything yourself.
- 18:05He's Kevin Durant. His favorite player growing up
- 18:08is Kevin Durant. He's exactly Kevin Durant until
- 18:11he gets off the hump. Kevin Durant couldn't do it
- 18:13himself. He had Russell Westbrook.
- 18:15He had James Harden. He had Serge Ibaka.
- 18:18Could never win. And now you have Anthony
- 18:20Edwards. He had Carl Anthony Towns, he
- 18:23had Rudy Gobert. He's had all these guys and
- 18:25still can't go to the hub and he's making excuses just like
- 18:28Kevin Durant, his favorite player.
- 18:30That to me is a problem. Speaking of teams that you
- 18:34obviously broadcast for the 49ers and I want to I had to get
- 18:38into this and transition into this because there's something
- 18:42about their coach that I don't like.
- 18:46And Kyle Shanahan, who everybody thinks is one of the masterminds
- 18:50of the offense in the NFL, has never won anything.
- 18:54He's been to two Super Bowls and has fallen flat on his ass.
- 18:58He was an offensive coordinator and then he fall flat on his
- 19:01faster fall flat on his ass in the fourth quarter when he
- 19:05played the Patriots because he stopped running the ball.
- 19:09What is it about this guy and what is the love fest for 49er
- 19:13fans? And do you think if they don't
- 19:16make the playoffs this year and make a run, is he going to get
- 19:18fired? Uh well, I think that if they
- 19:23don't make the playoffs this year, he should get fired.
- 19:26I would say that. I mean, you know, it's it's So
- 19:28what have you done for me lately?
- 19:30Business? And I know they were in the
- 19:31Super Bowl the year before last, but that doesn't really get you
- 19:34very much at the end of the day. We look what the Nuggets did
- 19:36with Mike Malone, right? I mean it's like nobody saw that
- 19:39coming. So and and I think some of the
- 19:43shine has come off a little bit with Kyle there.
- 19:46It's the most 49er fans that I talked to are kind of yeah, you
- 19:51know, they, they feel like Kyle's a good coach.
- 19:54I don't know that anybody feels like he's a great coach.
- 19:57I think he I do think that he, you know, has a really diverse
- 20:01way of, you know, being able to run an offense and when you've
- 20:05got the right players, it can, you know, it can really be
- 20:09accentuated when you've got a healthy Christian McCaffrey, you
- 20:13know, and you can be able to do a lot of things.
- 20:15And then last year, you don't have a healthy Christian
- 20:17McCaffrey and all of a sudden you look very pedestrian and
- 20:19you're struggling. I mean they had a.
- 20:20A lot of injuries last year, but it still wasn't just McCaffrey.
- 20:24But at the end of the day, yeah, there's no question, man, it's I
- 20:29think this a must do year for him, for him to be sticking
- 20:32around. And you know, I mean, what is
- 20:35the average tenure of an NFL coach nowadays?
- 20:37Dave, he's overrated. We have guys that have this love
- 20:41fest for him on this show. Coach Fish over there, love
- 20:44fest, Owen love fest. And I don't think the guys want
- 20:49anything. To me, he is to me, a bona fide
- 20:52assistant coach. That's what he is.
- 20:54He hasn't won anything and until he went something.
- 20:58And by the way, when was the last time the San Francisco
- 21:0049ers want something for almost 40 Niner fans?
- 21:04Listen to this show right now. Let's hear it.
- 21:06When was the last time? I don't even think you are
- 21:09alive. You know what their biggest?
- 21:12Their biggest win in the last decade was probably that NFC
- 21:16championship won over the Lions, a game they had no business
- 21:19winning, right, to get to the Super Bowl.
- 21:21And that was like a miracle that they came back to win that game.
- 21:25So, you know, it's yeah, they yeah.
- 21:29We'll see, man. Kyle Shanahan paid off the NFL.
- 21:32That's what happened. I'll see this, I'll see this,
- 21:35Errol. Here's my here's my gut, though.
- 21:38My gut is last year at this time, I was telling everybody,
- 21:43because everybody last year at this time was like, oh, the
- 21:46preseason power rankings, the 49ers were like, you know, top
- 21:49three, top 2 on a lot of the power rankings.
- 21:52And I was telling everybody I was like, yeah, I got a bad
- 21:56feeling, man. Like everybody's too high on
- 21:58this team. Like they were really healthy
- 22:01the Super Bowl year. Like, I just feel like they, you
- 22:04know, and that's obviously a big part of it, right?
- 22:07Like any team in the NFL, you're only as good as your injured
- 22:10reserve. You know, if you could keep your
- 22:12injured, injured reserve from getting too long, you got a you
- 22:15got a shot and, you know, and last year the, it, it played out
- 22:20terribly for the Niners. This year.
- 22:21I have the opposite feeling this year.
- 22:23I feel like everybody's down on them.
- 22:24Like this will probably be, they'll probably have a pretty
- 22:27good year. I, you know, but a good year
- 22:30here. I mean, the, the bigger question
- 22:32in my mind is just making the playoffs and losing in the first
- 22:36round. Keep Kyle Shanahan a job.
- 22:38That's a bigger question, right? Like, I mean, if they if they
- 22:42have a losing record and they're out of the playoffs for a second
- 22:45straight year, I don't think they're saying question he's
- 22:46gone. But if they, you know, if they
- 22:49win, say they go 10 and 7 and they lose a first round playoff
- 22:53game, you know that depending who's available, then that might
- 22:57be enough to make a change. Well, they invited Bambi.
- 23:00They invited Bambi back. And if you don't know who that
- 23:03is, that's Robert Sala, as we gave him the nickname they.
- 23:06Traded for. A deer.
- 23:07A deer in the headlights, that's what we call him Bambi, because
- 23:11he absolutely doesn't know well as a head.
- 23:14Coach as a defensive coordinator, I, I think he was
- 23:16pretty good. So but he keeps your seats.
- 23:18You're an eye on him. But I but, but he, he people out
- 23:21here think I lay on him. So we'll see.
- 23:23So another guy that the 49ers are forward Niners fans are very
- 23:26split on and just football fans very split on his.
- 23:27Brock Purdy as well. He gets a big contract this
- 23:29offseason. Everyone calls him a system
- 23:30quarterback. Cam Newton loves hating on him,
- 23:32saying he's like a 16th ranked quarterback in the NFL.
- 23:34What are your thoughts? So what he has been.
- 23:37I mean, listen, if I was going to just based upon talent and
- 23:42you know you, I knew you were talking about the Madden
- 23:44rankings earlier. I mean, what I'd be curious to
- 23:47know what is Brock Pretty's Madden ranking amongst
- 23:49quarterbacks? It's probably like 20 second out
- 23:51of starters, right? And I think that's probably a
- 23:54fair reflection of where you would take him based upon
- 23:56talent. But you know, prior to last year
- 24:00without the injuries, when he had healthy players around him,
- 24:03he he did, you know, he was more than a game manager, man.
- 24:06He made plays and he and he, he made plays with his legs.
- 24:10I mean, he, you know, listen, he's not Josh Allen.
- 24:12He's obviously not Lamar Jackson, but.
- 24:15He he can. Get out and run and he could
- 24:17beat you and he makes the smart play.
- 24:18I mean, even when he got in, you know when he when he got in
- 24:21that, that rookie year, I can remember they played a big game
- 24:24against Seattle and he scrambled for a first down and could have
- 24:27gotten more, but he went down South.
- 24:28The clock was expire and you know, it's like he's got good,
- 24:31good game awareness. So is he, you know, is he a $50
- 24:35million quarterback? I mean, come on, like that's I
- 24:39don't. But at the end of the day, if,
- 24:42you know, you got a guy that that helped you win you, you got
- 24:44to pay him. And plus, you got, you know, if
- 24:46I guess if you prorate that out for the fact that you were
- 24:49paying him, you know, 800 grand for the first couple of years,
- 24:51maybe it doesn't sting as bad. But, you know, we'll see if he
- 24:56if he, you know, if he has healthy weapons, I think he
- 24:59could be good. He's not going to be great.
- 25:01He's not going to be an all pro. But, you know, I think he's fine
- 25:05back there. But you know, again, I'm not I'm
- 25:08not I'm not a I'm not a Brock pretty hater.
- 25:10I'm not a Brock pretty, you know, you know, huge fan.
- 25:13I'm not leading the bandwagon. I think he's fine.
- 25:16I think he'll do a nice job. I don't think he's going to, you
- 25:20know, lead the league in interceptions or or take the the
- 25:22highest number of sacks. But I also don't think he's he's
- 25:24not going to lead the league in touchdowns.
- 25:26And you know what the bottom line is, can he be clutch?
- 25:28And he's proven to be clutch in his clear one career when it's
- 25:31mattered. And if you can continue that,
- 25:33then you know what more do you want.
- 25:35It's funny, I get in an argument with my buddy all the time
- 25:37because he's like, I hate him. I want to trade him.
- 25:39I was like, well, he he, he still wins.
- 25:42So you got to, you got to take that for.
- 25:43What it the same person that wanted Daniel Jones over him?
- 25:46Yeah, true. But you, you see it all the time
- 25:50in, in multiple sports and like what do you think like from the
- 25:55dynamic of a team, what do you think separates the good teams
- 25:58from the great teams? Is it is it individual players
- 26:00of them coming as a team? Is it the clubhouse or is it a
- 26:02virtue of like all things combined?
- 26:04Yeah, I mean, listen, they've, you could go back to Casey
- 26:08Stengel, right? I mean, everybody of sports has
- 26:12been like trying to find out what the secret sauce is, right?
- 26:15I mean, it's some years you win because you got a Michael Jordan
- 26:19and he pulls everybody along somewhere.
- 26:22Years you win because you're the Detroit Pistons and you guys
- 26:25just coalesce the right way. You know, it's it's I don't
- 26:29think that there's one pride and true pattern.
- 26:33I and and it's just kind of a living, breathing thing that
- 26:35comes to life. And are you lucky with injuries?
- 26:38Do you have the right schedule? Do you do you get the right hit
- 26:41at the right time? Do you do you make the right
- 26:43catch at the right time? I mean, it's just so many things
- 26:47that, you know, that come into it in the margin nowadays in
- 26:51every league, especially the NFL is so razor thin, man.
- 26:56I mean, it's so razor thin. I mean, can you if we could go
- 27:01through the 32 teams right now and probably pick five teams
- 27:04that we know for sure are not going to make the playoffs and
- 27:07pick another five that we know for sure will make the playoffs
- 27:10and probably get one or two of them wrong on both sides.
- 27:13Like that's just how razor thin the margins are.
- 27:17And you know, you just don't know what is going to happen.
- 27:20So I think you just got to ride the wave, Man.
- 27:23I, I wish I had a better answer to that.
- 27:24But I think, again, everybody's been trying to find that that
- 27:27answer for the history time across every sport.
- 27:30We are talking to Emmy award-winning sports broadcaster
- 27:33Dave Benz. He's been on a show before.
- 27:35He works with the 49ers, the San Francisco Giants, everybody.
- 27:39He works for everybody. OK, He's the pickleball winner.
- 27:42He's the pickleball announcer. And, and Speaking of pickleballs
- 27:46and, and you were Speaking of 1 Brock Purdy, who I actually
- 27:49like. And I think he's a lot better
- 27:50than a lot of people think he is going to be this year.
- 27:54I don't know if he's an all pro guy, but I think he could be a
- 27:57top ten quarterback in the league.
- 27:59I don't understand why anybody thinks he doesn't have the
- 28:02talent to be that and especially Kyle Shanahan, as Kyle Shanahan
- 28:07is the offensive goddess. But I I want to get off football
- 28:12and I want to talk about the San Francisco Giants and the Giants,
- 28:15they've been up and down all season long, the trade deadlines
- 28:18right around the corner. Do you think somebody named
- 28:22Buster Posey has something up his sleeve?
- 28:25And if you think he does, who do you think it is?
- 28:29Man, I, I, you know, prior to doing Endeavours trade, Buster
- 28:36really hadn't done anything. Buster hadn't made any deals.
- 28:39So I mean, does he have any? They all stop asleep.
- 28:43I mean, where they're sitting right now.
- 28:44I had to pull up the standings because to be honest with you,
- 28:46they kind of, they started off great, right?
- 28:48They started off. So.
- 28:49Incredibly right on. And then and then when they
- 28:52brought endeavours, everybody's like, oh, this is the ticket.
- 28:54Now they've lost six in a row and they're, you know, their
- 28:57their game under 500. And you know, I and I guess
- 29:00they're you know, they're benefiting.
- 29:03I in some respects from the fact that the Dodgers were hurt much
- 29:06of the year and and didn't really take off, Although now
- 29:08they're you know, now the Giants are 9 and FX.
- 29:13Listen, if I'm Buster Posey, I'm looking at a 500 team right now.
- 29:18I'm probably not going to make it.
- 29:20I'm probably not going to give up anything really to try.
- 29:23I mean, what are you going to do?
- 29:24I mean, you're going to try and get in and sneak in as a wild
- 29:26card. Maybe with this team, you know,
- 29:31they've got some decent pitching and they I think that they're
- 29:34probably better than 500 team. They'll probably finish with 85
- 29:39wins. Is that enough to get you a wild
- 29:41card, you know, 8588 maybe if they if that things go well, you
- 29:45know, but I don't think that they're I don't think they're
- 29:48championship contender and Buster knows what it's like to
- 29:50win championships. So I think you really kind of
- 29:53got to just cool The Jets a little bit.
- 29:55You already made your big deal and get endeavors and and you
- 29:58try to, you know, try maybe you catch lightning in a bottle with
- 30:02the guys you got, maybe you get somebody off the waiver wire
- 30:05later. But I wouldn't, I wouldn't
- 30:07really make any huge moves. So in terms of the Dodgers, so
- 30:11we're talking about the deferred money throughout the year with
- 30:15Joey Otani, Freddie Freeman, and a lot of people think it's
- 30:17ruining baseball. As a Giants guy, I rival with
- 30:20the Dodgers. What are your thoughts of that?
- 30:23I mean, it's easy to hate the Dodgers when you're sitting in
- 30:27in, you know, orange and black, right?
- 30:29But at the same time, you got to tip your cap to them, man.
- 30:34I mean, they're playing within the rules that are set up in
- 30:37baseball. And Rob Manfred, I know over All
- 30:39Star weekend, he talked about, you know, that they have to find
- 30:42a way to be able to level the playing field a little bit.
- 30:46But you know, the rules are what they are right now.
- 30:49And if you've got the money to spend and and you know, the
- 30:51Dodgers haven't only done it by bringing in free agents.
- 30:54I mean, obviously they've brought in some pretty damn
- 30:57impressive ones, but you know, it's it's a credit to them with
- 31:02what they've done and being able to just kind of keep the machine
- 31:06going and being able to, you know, to tread the injury and
- 31:08that lineup is just ridiculous, man.
- 31:10And Errol, I heard you before, you know, before I came on
- 31:14talking about the Yankees and, you know, being down on them.
- 31:16And it's like, I mean, that's just think about the Dodgers
- 31:20almost made the Yankees look silly last October.
- 31:22And it's like, and the Yankees were really good punk club, man.
- 31:26But it's like the Dodgers are just so much better.
- 31:29It's like everybody else is a AAA team.
- 31:31So I mean, as a, as a fan of baseball, I hate it because I
- 31:37feel like, you know, you've given all the, you're given all
- 31:40the good players to one team, But you know, it's also, it's a
- 31:45spectacle to watch, man. I mean, occasionally I'll put on
- 31:48a Dodger game and you look at that lineup, who's, you know, of
- 31:51who's coming up, It's like boom, boom, boom, you know, Ohtani and
- 31:54Betts and Freeman. And it's just like with like,
- 31:56where's the weak spot, you know? Yeah, that there's, there's not
- 32:00much the weak Otani. It's in in the Jabba's beard.
- 32:03You know the the loop. No, this beard.
- 32:05There's no, there's no patches. There's no patches.
- 32:08It's the loop in his beard, ladies and gentlemen, he, as he
- 32:10said on the show in the beginning of the show, there it
- 32:12is. What?
- 32:13Why does he have to kiss me? I I don't get this.
- 32:17That doesn't even look like me. And why is my head like, you
- 32:20know, looks like my head's off the body?
- 32:22I mean, I like the hair. I I don't have a receded
- 32:25hairline either. What the hell is that all about?
- 32:29I don't know what that's all about.
- 32:31And I didn't, I didn't, I didn't see you at a Coldplay show.
- 32:33But but you know, maybe you guys, maybe you guys stayed off
- 32:35camera. What an idiot.
- 32:40That guy was spoiled. Boy, yeah, I mean, listen, I I
- 32:44got a lot of thoughts on that, but everybody, everybody shared
- 32:47a lot of thoughts on that. So I think it's time to move on.
- 32:49Let's turn the page. All right, all right, ticks
- 32:52scapes, tell us a little bit about.
- 32:53Your company. OK, so two years ago I came up
- 32:59with this idea and I've literally guys, I've been
- 33:02working on it like ridiculously and it's taken a long time, but
- 33:07we just officially put it into the market last week and it's
- 33:11Tixcape. TIXSCAPE.
- 33:13You can get it on Android, iOS app or on the web.
- 33:18By the way, if you're on Android, like wait 24 hours
- 33:22before you download it, unless you have a phone that's within
- 33:24the last two years. Because I found out the hard way
- 33:26that any phones that are any Android phones that are more
- 33:30than two years old are having some issues.
- 33:31And we're it will be straightened out in the next 24
- 33:34hours. But you can go ahead and use the
- 33:36web. But if you're on iOS, you're
- 33:37good to go. And basically, if you want to go
- 33:40to a Yankee game, you can go on ticks scape and like see all the
- 33:46tickets for the Yankee game, like all from all the, all the
- 33:51providers. I mean, we have we partnered
- 33:53with everybody. So Ticketmaster, StubHub,
- 33:55SeatGeek, Vivid seats, Ticketnetwork, ticket
- 33:58liquidator, we got 13 retailers that we partnered with.
- 34:01So you'll see the tickets from every retailer.
- 34:05And then you can on the app like click the price button and it
- 34:08will actually open up a, a window where you could go
- 34:13through and every single retailer, you can access their
- 34:16stuff without having to open a bunch of tabs and have to bounce
- 34:18around. All the tickets are bought on
- 34:20the official retailer's website or platform.
- 34:24So you're not, you're not giving us money, We're not taking any
- 34:28data. You can use this completely
- 34:30anonymously, completely free. You're going to save time,
- 34:33you're going to save money. But the other thing that the one
- 34:36feature that we have added in addition to kind of putting this
- 34:38all together, which is so think of it like Google Flights or
- 34:41Travelocity, right? But for tickets and we've got
- 34:43everything, we've got sports, concerts, theater.
- 34:46You want to go to a beer festival in your in your small
- 34:49town, We probably have that. We got, you know, like a million
- 34:52events on there. But the but the thing that we
- 34:57added that I really think is the thing that people are going to
- 35:00like the most is we've added a price alert.
- 35:03So some retailers will give you like you might get an app
- 35:06notification like, Hey, tickets prices are dropping.
- 35:09Whatever for an event that you looked at will actually let you
- 35:13set a price point. So say that, you know, I don't
- 35:16know, say you wanted to go see Coldplay and they're playing at
- 35:19you know, Giant Stadium and you're like, I'm not going to
- 35:22pay 800 bucks. Like I'd go but I'm not going to
- 35:24pay 800 bucks. Well, you could be like, you
- 35:26could set the price and say, okay, I'd be willing to pay 400
- 35:30and you put it in and, and if a ticket hits and the secondary
- 35:33markets like the stock market, man, it's going all over the
- 35:35place. So if a ticket hits 400, you'll
- 35:38get a notification right away with a link to buy it so you can
- 35:40get the ticket at the price that you want.
- 35:42So you know that's something that's not out there right now.
- 35:45Well. We need to talk off air because
- 35:49hey, we need to promote you. Maybe you'll be a sponsor of our
- 35:52show. We're doing great things right
- 35:54now on Blue Wire. So let's talk off air.
- 35:57I think we can really work together.
- 35:59How about this? Well and we've.
- 36:00Got we've got swag that we saw on order.
- 36:03It hasn't arrived yet, so I'll hook you guys up with some swag
- 36:07and you guys can can rock that on a future show.
- 36:10And yeah, let's yeah, let's make something happen.
- 36:13We will. I'm in.
- 36:18I got my I got my buddies bar on right now.
- 36:22And and, and please, guys, you know, check it out.
- 36:25You know, hit me up, man. Let me know what you think, like
- 36:27if we're kind of right now in the beta phase, right, because
- 36:30like, you know, I, I did put it out on my social, but we haven't
- 36:34really launched a real marketing campaign yet because we're still
- 36:36trying to find out where the ghosts are in the machine.
- 36:39But you know, it is right. It is ready to it, it is, it
- 36:42does work. Go out, you know, use it.
- 36:44Let me know what you think. Check it out.
- 36:46You know, if there's something you like you don't like, you
- 36:48know, let me know, man. But I, I, I, I'm really excited
- 36:52about this and you know, it's been a, and I'll tell you all
- 36:55fair the story of how I came up with the idea.
- 36:57I'm not ready to put that one out yet, but it's the hell of a
- 37:01story. I came up with the idea.
- 37:03Well, hopefully you weren't at Jabba's house or looking at the
- 37:07checking out the Lube that he was putting on his chinny chin
- 37:09chin. But we love you, Mr. Dave, and
- 37:13you do such a great job and you're one of the best.
- 37:16We really appreciate the time and we'll talk to you soon,
- 37:18buddy. All right, guys, I appreciate it
- 37:20man. Anytime and enjoy the rest of
- 37:22the Yankees run, man. I I'm hoping they're going to do
- 37:25a little bit better than you than you're feeling.
- 37:26Whatever you're they. Just blew it.
- 37:28Whatever you gave up A2, run Homer in the. 9th There you go.
- 37:31There you go. So whatever anybody or whatever
- 37:34Yankee fan is smoking, keep smoking it because they're not
- 37:38going anywhere anyways, yeah. Well, then we'll see.
- 37:41That's why they play the games. That's what somebody.
- 37:43Dave, we love you. Keep up the good work and I'll
- 37:45talk to you off air. We definitely should talk about
- 37:47that. Sounds good.
- 37:49All right, man. Hit me up.
- 37:51Dave Benz, ladies and gentlemen, fantastic as always, great
- 37:54personalities and the voice of pickleball.
- 37:57As we always said, man, what a day, what a what an interview.
- 38:02And we have another one that's coming up in just a few moments,
- 38:05we'll have Mr. Nelson Figueroa. Tom Brady in a recent newsletter
- 38:11questioned Scotty Scheffler's, oh, comments about wanting to be
- 38:18a better father then as a golfer.
- 38:21This came after Scheffler's comments after he won the
- 38:24British Open when he was deeply discussing his family's impact
- 38:30on his golfing career. Scheffler also referenced
- 38:33winning the Byron Nelson Championship, a small tournament
- 38:39that's near where he went to College in Texas, being just as
- 38:44valuable as winning a major. Brady questioned why being a
- 38:49father and a golfer are mutually exclusive and said his
- 38:55dedication to football for 23 years made him a better father.
- 39:01Brady also mentioned a similar experience after beating the
- 39:04Eagles in the Super Bowl in 2005, where he was wondering
- 39:09what else was there for him to prove to his life.
- 39:14Scheffler's. I'm sorry, I'm reading Speedy's
- 39:16ridiculous word. Scheffler has a has a son that
- 39:20is only 14 months old, and Brady mentioned that growing up with
- 39:25his father's life in golf will be good for him.
- 39:31I don't know why Tom Brady's even opening his mouth.
- 39:34I I really don't know why there's a conversation about
- 39:36this. I honestly think Tom Brady is a
- 39:40unique personality. I understand Tom Brady thinks
- 39:43that. Well, he could do.
- 39:45He could be a good father and good football player.
- 39:47Let me ask Tom Brady when he decided to retire and come back
- 39:52and he pissed off his wife, why is he not married still?
- 39:57He told his wife when he walked away from football he wasn't
- 40:00going back and then he decided to re sign with the Buccaneers
- 40:04and then his wife decides to sleep with his her his karate
- 40:08trainer and and now is remarried with him.
- 40:12Honestly Tom Brady talks about family and it's great.
- 40:15Tom Brady was a great football player.
- 40:17Tom Brady looks like he loves his son.
- 40:20As we've seen in his documentary, he likes to kiss
- 40:22his son on the lips. Tom Brady is a unique
- 40:25personality. He also owns a piece of the
- 40:28Raiders. I think you should really
- 40:30concentrate on his team and his broadcasting because he's not
- 40:37very good at broadcasting. And we'll see where the Raiders
- 40:40go. It seems like they got it right
- 40:42with Pete Carroll and and I don't know what Geno Smith's
- 40:44going to be over there in a Raiders uniform.
- 40:47We all know Vegas likes to have superstar DJs go and support
- 40:54their football teams as during the football games they're the
- 40:56only team that has live superstar DJs.
- 41:00They're putting on a concert. As we all know.
- 41:02Tiesta was there for the Super Bowl.
- 41:05I think honestly, Tom Brady and Scheffler, a very unique
- 41:09individual. Scheffler who comes out, he was
- 41:12on the he was in the new Happy Gilmore movie.
- 41:14He looked really, really good, has a good personality, made
- 41:17jokes about him getting arrested and getting arrested on the golf
- 41:20course, which is pretty funny. I think he has a good
- 41:23personality, but I don't think he loves the sport.
- 41:26That's what he's great. And when you're great and you're
- 41:29making money, that's great. It's good for his family.
- 41:32It's good for golf. Scheffler doesn't care about
- 41:34golf like he cares about his family.
- 41:37Tom Brady cared about football more than he cared about his
- 41:40family. Let's be honest.
- 41:42He retired and went back to play football because he liked the
- 41:45camaraderie. Golfing is a single man sport.
- 41:49There's no teamwork in golfing unless you're playing in the
- 41:51Ryder Cup. That's the truth.
- 41:54This guy is all about his family.
- 41:57Why are you taking shots at Scheffler?
- 41:59This guy's the best golfer in the world.
- 42:01He's been the best golfer in the world for the last three years.
- 42:04He's just speaking the facts. He wants to be closer to his
- 42:07family than the game of golf. Tiger Woods loved the game of
- 42:11golf and he loved sex and he loved pornos.
- 42:15So what did he do? He cheated on his wife and he
- 42:18did his things off the court and off the field.
- 42:21That's that's just the sport in the sporting world.
- 42:25You'll love something, you'll love your family.
- 42:27You're going to go for one or the other or you go for both.
- 42:30Tom Brady loves his kid or kids and he loved the game of
- 42:34football. I think he loved football more
- 42:36than than his children. I'm just speaking the truth.
- 42:38I don't know Tom Brady personally, but anybody retires
- 42:42and decides to walk away after he told his wife he was going to
- 42:46step away from the game and and move on in his career and then
- 42:50go back to the sport. He tells me that Tom Brady took
- 42:53the game over his family. That's all I'm saying here.
- 42:57Now again, I don't know Scotty Scheffler.
- 43:00I think he's got a unique personality.
- 43:02I think he's good for golf. I think I there's nobody
- 43:06challenging him in the game of golf.
- 43:07I mean, seriously, I don't watch golf as much you you would
- 43:11thought McElroy is one of those guys.
- 43:13But McElroy is an up and down golfer.
- 43:15There's there's nobody as good as Scotty Scheffler.
- 43:18So it's like when we Tiger Woods was great, it was always him and
- 43:23Mickelson, right? It was it was backup.
- 43:25Mickelson was never Tiger Woods. But when they played in big
- 43:30tournaments and they were head to head, there were two
- 43:32Americans fighting to win the British Open, fighting to win
- 43:35the US Open. I don't think there's anybody
- 43:38right now even in the same conversation as Scotty
- 43:42Scheffler. And I think that's why Scotty
- 43:44Scheffler was like, yeah, it's just golf.
- 43:46Who cares? I care more about my family.
- 43:49I care more about my kids and my wife and, and spending time with
- 43:53them. I don't know why Tom Brady is
- 43:55taking shots at him. And by the way, Tom, how good of
- 43:58a golfer are you? Can you could you actually get
- 44:01on a golf course with Scotty Scheffler, even compete with
- 44:03him? And you're you're I'm not Scotty
- 44:06Scheffler is not taking shots at you on what you did, deciding to
- 44:09walk away and then come back and then lose a life.
- 44:12No, but you didn't hear Scotty Scheffler attack you from that.
- 44:16So why are you attacking him? That's what I want to know.
- 44:19Tom Brady should not be opening his mouth.
- 44:22He should be concentrating for the football season, making his,
- 44:25what, $35 million a year? Sitting there and talking his
- 44:29rubbish. I mean, seriously, he's not Tony
- 44:31Romo homo or anything. Yeah.
- 44:34You may want to use that $35,000,000 to pay the dead cap
- 44:37you owe for getting rid of your. Stuff.
- 44:39Did you get what I said? Tony Romo Homo.
- 44:41That's what they call on me. I got that.
- 44:43I love Tony Romo, by the way. He's the best in the business.
- 44:46Now going on to this aspect of competitive nature too,
- 44:49obviously you see it more impassionate with with football
- 44:52because football you want to it's a hype sport.
- 44:54You want to get fired up. And obviously golf is thought it
- 44:56was more as a traditional sport. And I think Scheffler still has
- 44:58a good personality considering like compared to a lot of the
- 45:01other golfers, you're seeing it a little more with some of the
- 45:02younger ones, but again, you're not seeing it throughout the
- 45:05sport as much. So I don't know how really how
- 45:07Tom Brady differentiates the difference of, oh, he doesn't
- 45:09like golf because he's not showing that kind of passion.
- 45:12Like Tom Brady. Obviously you're seeing on the
- 45:14sideline throwing tablets and yelling at his teammates and
- 45:16stuff like that. Like everybody handles it
- 45:18differently in in every sport. So I don't know why how you
- 45:20could necessarily differentiate. Like you said, it's distracting
- 45:23from what you're trying to actually try to accomplish.
- 45:25Obviously they have a good, good enough relationship for him to
- 45:27like maybe jokingly say this kind of thing, but it's still
- 45:30enough of a criticism. That's still very weird.
- 45:32Now, Java, obviously you're knowing more about being a
- 45:34father, being and playing golf a lot more than I do to know that
- 45:37too. But like, at the same time,
- 45:38like, I don't know, like what, how do you judge, like, passion
- 45:41for golf, passion for football? I don't think Tom Brady can
- 45:44decipher that. No, I, you know what it's, it's
- 45:48one of those things where there's no right or wrong way to
- 45:52parent. There's no book on how to do it.
- 45:55And I don't, I don't like this. First of all, I think it's
- 45:59inappropriate as a one father to another to tell them what your
- 46:03opinion is. We all, we all parent different.
- 46:06You know, I jumped on a trampoline and and blasted my
- 46:09ankle in half. Curt Schilling told me I was a
- 46:11terrible dad for playing with my son.
- 46:13If I was playing wiffle ball and he hit me in the eye, am I still
- 46:15a terrible dad? Like so there there's no way in
- 46:19in the way he feels about his sport is completely different
- 46:22than the way. And it's just I I don't like it.
- 46:25It it really for me, it's it there's no place for it because
- 46:30really like you don't, you just don't like what he said and
- 46:34that's OK. You don't have to like what he
- 46:37said, like he just values certain things different than
- 46:39you do, and that's OK. But you can't, you can't bag on
- 46:43a dude and be like, oh, you can't play golf and be a dad.
- 46:47Like, relax, bro. Like, yes, you're a great
- 46:49football player, but when it comes to a dad that there's
- 46:52lines we don't cross. And as parents, you can do
- 46:55whatever you want, but don't, don't, don't talk like that.
- 46:58And you know, Scotty's not one of those dudes to to do this.
- 47:01But I remember I called Curt Schilling.
- 47:03I go tell me I'm a bad dad in my face for playing with my son.
- 47:06Tell me never called me back, never did anything.
- 47:08Put his tail between his legs and and went on.
- 47:11But he could jump his. Sock up it.
- 47:13Sounds worse than what Brady did.
- 47:15Wow, that's crazy. Yeah, literally I was like, hey,
- 47:17can I get his number? And I was like, hey, man, like
- 47:19he literally buried me on when he was on Sunday night baseball
- 47:22and and said he's a terrible dad for doing this.
- 47:25He risked his career. I'm like jumping on a trampoline
- 47:28with my son, like, and we were the only two people in there.
- 47:31It wasn't like it was packed. It was just me and my son.
- 47:33So yeah, it's when this came up. I'm just like, man, you've got
- 47:36to be absolutely kidding me. Like, first of all, what you
- 47:40like you said or why, why is he open his mouth first?
- 47:43Like it's a topic of a dad being a dad and him saying like, yeah,
- 47:48golf is great. My wife thanks me for going out
- 47:51and working hard and providing for our family.
- 47:53But it's not the end all that meets all.
- 47:55Like I love being a dad, like and and I won't even touch on
- 48:00what Tom did in his career and all the other stuff because that
- 48:03was his choice as a father. And it's it is not my right to
- 48:07say what is is good and bad for his family.
- 48:10And that's why I don't like it. Just keep your mouth shut when
- 48:12it comes to being a parent. If you don't like his golf game,
- 48:15say his swing sucks, whatever. Like, that's cool, but when it
- 48:18comes to to being a parent and how he feels about certain
- 48:21things, man, just shut up. Yeah, and, and he's the best
- 48:24golfer in the world. He's been the best golfer in the
- 48:26world. And and he wants to spend more
- 48:28time with his family than playing golf.
- 48:31Do you realize, like, how good Tiger Woods was?
- 48:33So the way Scotty Scheffler is going right now, and he's
- 48:37obviously great, for him to tie Tiger Woods, he'd have to stay
- 48:40#1 till 2035. Wow.
- 48:44To tie Tiger Woods? Damn.
- 48:46Yeah, and, and, and to me, Scheffler's been the most
- 48:49dominant American player since then.
- 48:51So it, it just says a lot about who he is.
- 48:54And he doesn't even love the game as much as Tiger Woods did.
- 48:57Or he didn't love the game like Brady loved the game of football
- 49:01because Brady. I don't care what Brady.
- 49:02Would say that's OK. I don't I don't care what Brady
- 49:05would say or and deny Brady loved football more than he
- 49:09loved his family. That's a fact.
- 49:11Anybody that says to his wife I'm never playing football
- 49:14again, I'm retiring and then a couple of weeks later saying I'm
- 49:18coming out of retirement after you promise your wife you're
- 49:20stepping away because you want to spend more time with your
- 49:23kids tells me football came first over his family.
- 49:28Greatness came first over his family.
- 49:31That's the fact. Scheffler doesn't believe that.
- 49:33I like that Scotty Scheffler said what he said and did it in
- 49:36a professional. Way, but he's he's never he's
- 49:39never shield away from that that point of view of what he said
- 49:43like he's he said that from like it's his faith and his family
- 49:46like that's what he said from day one like this isn't
- 49:48something new and and obviously Tom likes golf.
- 49:51He he's been on the match, he's done all this other stuff.
- 49:53So unless he's just a front and doesn't really like golf and
- 49:56just does it for whatever, but he's obviously watched golf and
- 49:59seen it. He knows who Scotty Scheffler
- 50:01is. It's not like this came out of
- 50:03the blue and he just threw something to the wind.
- 50:05Like no, I don't care. Like no, he said.
- 50:07He said that from jump street, like faith and family is like my
- 50:112 most important things. Yeah, I play golf and I'm good
- 50:13at it and I work hard. But really at the end of the
- 50:15day, it's it's really not what it's about for me.
- 50:19And I respect the heck out of him for standing on his on his
- 50:22laurels and be like, hey, if you don't like it, you don't like
- 50:24it. But that's just who I am.
- 50:26You know fish, I know you. You want me to go into inside
- 50:28baseball, but I I want to do my dildo of the day.
- 50:31Can I do that? I told you, you're going to love
- 50:34this story. I told you.
- 50:36I did. I read the story when we went to
- 50:38your sports Minute. So let's do it, my dildo of the
- 50:41day. The deuce of the day you log not
- 50:45a log. I don't have a log but.
- 50:47You know. This has got to be one of the
- 50:55craziest stories I read and that's why I have to I have to
- 51:00mention it. With less than a minute left of
- 51:02the WNBA game in Golden State and Atlanta Dream on Tuesday, a
- 51:08lime green object flew onto the court during the play.
- 51:13Yes, stopping play with 52 seconds left of the game.
- 51:17Police officer inspected it as he picked it up and removed it.
- 51:22Nobody's picking up this object yet.
- 51:25Oh my gosh, one of the TV announcers said, and it dawned
- 51:30to him what it was. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the
- 51:33object was thrown from the stands, bouncing near the free
- 51:37throw line of the Golden State end of the court where the
- 51:42action was at the time. It then bounced to the sidelines
- 51:48near the mid court. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, it
- 51:52was the one and only dildo. Now here's the question that
- 51:58everybody has now, and this is a question that a lot of people
- 52:01have first, how do you smuggle a dildo at a WNBA game?
- 52:08And the answer would be I have. No.
- 52:12Idea now, if if we've heard this many, many times, they they
- 52:18check you for guns, they check you for metal weapons.
- 52:20This thing is a rubber weapon. Now what you use it for, well, I
- 52:25don't know. I'm not using it and I'm sure
- 52:28one of these girls might I, I mean it.
- 52:30But nevertheless, the fact is this is disrespectful.
- 52:35Anybody that brings something of this magnitude, this rubber
- 52:40thing on a into a basketball game and throws it on the court
- 52:45is, is disrespectful to the women playing on it.
- 52:48And to me, the WNBA need to figure out on how somebody
- 52:55brought this in or an arena and disrespected the game.
- 52:59And then I know you laugh at it. I know it's something funny, but
- 53:02to me, it just disrespects the game.
- 53:05It disrespects what they're trying to do for the game.
- 53:08People are making jokes about it.
- 53:09I, I read, I read something on Stephen A Smith's show.
- 53:13I'm not going to mention the name.
- 53:14He made a joke about it and one of the guys made a joke about
- 53:17it. I, I don't think this is funny.
- 53:19I think it's disrespectful. So I think that the WNBA needs
- 53:23to investigate this, find out who threw it and and and make
- 53:28sure that this person could never or should never go to a
- 53:32WNBA game again. That's my opinion.
- 53:35And that, ladies and gentlemen, is my deuce of the day.
- 53:40I I just I don't get it. Unbelievable story.
- 53:43I don't get it. I think unbelievable.
- 53:44I I want to laugh at it. It's it's it's a completely
- 53:47disgusting story. If you think about it.
- 53:50If it was a man's game, it was an NBA game and somebody threw
- 53:53it out, I'd be like, who the hell is bringing a dildo doing
- 53:56an NBA basketball an ELB? I'm sorry LJ again, but maybe
- 54:01it's LeBron James. I'll tell you guys a funny
- 54:03story. You didn't bring up your name.
- 54:04Today I want to tell you guys. Sounds like a Dennis Rodman.
- 54:06I will tell you guys a quick funny story now, me and my
- 54:09friend, I, I don't know if you guys know Eric Martini and my
- 54:12and, and and I have a friend named Nate.
- 54:14We're very good friends. And when LeBron James came into
- 54:17the league, LeBron James was like doing all these crazy
- 54:20things, owning everything, sneakers, snow shorts, all this
- 54:24other stuff. So I played a practical joke on
- 54:27one of my friends, actually both of my friends, I took a dildo, a
- 54:31rubber dildo, and I put LeBron James symbol on the dildo and I
- 54:37sent it to both of my friends. And I said, look, LeBron James
- 54:40is getting involved in sex toys. And both my friends actually
- 54:46believed that LeBron James was really getting into the sex toy
- 54:50industry. And both of them said I was sick
- 54:53and where'd you get this? And then I, I showed him the
- 54:55picture. I, I made it.
- 54:56So funny story is my friends tell me I'm a pervert and that I
- 55:01should keep my comments and my craziness to myself.
- 55:04So that's a true story. And I, I, I threw LeBron James
- 55:07or the LJA under the bus and I put the Nike sound on Nike sign
- 55:11on on the balls. So it was pretty funny.
- 55:13You need to. Tell Brian Snow that star.
- 55:16I'm sure he'd love that for his broad sexual.
- 55:17I would probably think that he would think that it was a
- 55:21permit. Anyways, we call this next
- 55:24segment segment inside Baseball. Now let's go deep, deep inside.
- 55:28What I am excited. This is inside baseball.
- 55:33Jabba likes my shrimp cocktail. That's one of my favorite ones,
- 55:38the shrimp cocktail one. I love Lisa.
- 55:41Inside baseball got a few stories.
- 55:43We're going to kind of what lightning round around them, but
- 55:46we'll stay here a little bit because truly sad story.
- 55:49We saw a couple of weeks ago that Ryan Sandberg was fighting
- 55:51cancer, said he was going to keep the fight.
- 55:54He passed away yesterday, 65 years old.
- 56:00Hall of Fame second baseman, played until 1997.
- 56:03I'm old enough to remember him, you know, in his last couple of
- 56:05years playing when I was watching, I think I mean, I
- 56:09started watching around that that strike season with the
- 56:12Yankees and the Expos were top. So I have a lot of fond memories
- 56:16of like those All Star games. Sandberg just a legend.
- 56:19Even then, ten time All Star guys.
- 56:23Let's talk about Rhino. I don't know him.
- 56:25Joppa probably knows him better than anybody, I'm sure.
- 56:28No, he's never met him. I'll tell you this, Ryan
- 56:31Sandberg was one of the best infield defensive players of the
- 56:36early 80s into the early 90s. He, this guy was as talented
- 56:41defensively than we've ever seen and had a great bat, tremendous
- 56:45bat, a career 280 hit. I don't even have it in front of
- 56:48my, I don't even have the numbers in front of me.
- 56:50But I know how talented he was. I, I mean, controversial things,
- 56:54he said over the years on and off the field.
- 56:57But the guy was a great leader. He was the face of the Chicago
- 57:00Cubs for almost 14 years. Sensational player.
- 57:04Sensational. Yeah, you look at the guy that
- 57:06like after Ernie Banks in those 60s teams with the Cubs, they
- 57:09kind of transition into the 80s and he was that focal point of
- 57:12that team. So like you said, one of the
- 57:13best defensive second basement, one of the better power hitting
- 57:15second basement for that era too, which they weren't really
- 57:17coming by until probably the 90s.
- 57:20So he definitely will be missed. He was a fighter for a long
- 57:22time. It's he will be missed.
- 57:24Rest in peace and condolences to his family as well.
- 57:27Yeah, I know he was. It was fun because, you know, we
- 57:29obviously being in the Midwest, we got WGN, so we got to watch
- 57:32him a little bit more than more than most.
- 57:35We had to struggle with the White Sox there too.
- 57:37But, but yeah, no, it was, it was fine.
- 57:41Never met him. Heard great stories from guys
- 57:44that played with him and against him and, you know, just it's
- 57:48we're, we're losing these guys too early, man.
- 57:50And it's, you know, it's sad to see.
- 57:52And, you know, it's just, you look and, you know, we just had
- 57:56the the Hall of Fame introduction and then we just
- 57:59lose 1. And so it's just tough to see.
- 58:03And thoughts and prayers to his family and, you know, just keep
- 58:06losing the fraternity of of men that played this game, that
- 58:09paved the way for all these these young men and kids that
- 58:12are that are looking up to guys. And he definitely played the
- 58:15game hard in the right way. And it's, it's a tough.
- 58:18One, he played on really bad cups teams too.
- 58:21Rough. Really, really bad Cups teams.
- 58:25I remember Andre Dawson. I remember when he played with
- 58:28Andre Dawson. Yeah, those were the 2 best
- 58:30players on a team and you can argue both guys wanted out, but
- 58:34the Ryan Sandberg stayed there practically his whole career.
- 58:37Hey, and then his his up the middle mate Sean Dunstan was
- 58:41kind of the one that first to have the flashy chains and
- 58:43stuff. Yeah, I just think Ryan
- 58:46Sandberg, the loss of Ryan Sandberg just says, says one
- 58:50thing about baseball. Baseball is a game that you you,
- 58:55you want to play for a significant amount of time and,
- 58:58and you do as long as Ryan Sandberg and do it as well as
- 59:00Sandberg and you just hope that you have the career of Ryan
- 59:04Sandberg so. You know, Sandberg I, when I was
- 59:07doing the research for this, you know, he was a throw in, in a
- 59:11trade between the Phillies and the Cubs.
- 59:13Yeah, he could have been the face of the Phillies.
- 59:15He could have been the face of the Phillies.
- 59:17He was a throw in the trade along with a former Phillies
- 59:21coach, Larry Boa. Larry Boa, he was he was a
- 59:25shortstop, right? And Bo was a shortstop.
- 59:28They thought he was going to play third, as we know came
- 59:30second baseman. Boa wasn't, let's just say, the
- 59:33main guy in that deal after all. So when we think about the trade
- 59:36deadline days like this, but the throw insurance in the deal,
- 59:39sometimes those throw insurance turn out to be Hall of Famers.
- 59:41Get the turb right, it's the players to be named later.
- 59:45Players to be named later. Contract to be.
- 59:47Like Jabba says, you don't know what a prospect is going to turn
- 59:50out to be. You never know what we know
- 59:54about Juan Soto, and Juan Soto makes a lot of money, boys.
- 59:57But I think there are some umpires that might not like Juan
- 1:00:02Soto, including this guy Emil Jimenez.
- 1:00:04I don't know if you watched the game yesterday, but Juan Soto.
- 1:00:08First off, Mendoza got ran because Juan Soto, let's just
- 1:00:12say you're not supposed to argue, called balls and strikes,
- 1:00:16but it wasn't even close. There was one that went good
- 1:00:19foot outside, second one that was wide and Soto.
- 1:00:24You could say a lot about Soto. He definitely has one of the
- 1:00:27best batting eyes in the league. He has the best step bats.
- 1:00:30If he's arguing, that means there's something to argue about
- 1:00:34if you go later in the game. I got to play this clip for you
- 1:00:36guys. Before we talk about it, here's
- 1:00:38the reaction. You're going to see the this.
- 1:00:40I'm staring down. There's the first one, not even
- 1:00:42close. Hatcher has to reach all the way
- 1:00:44out to the side to get it. That one's a little closer.
- 1:00:48Soto's not happy. This is where Mendoza's going to
- 1:00:51get run. There's one more, though, that's
- 1:00:53just unbelievable. Look at that one.
- 1:00:56He waits, rings him up, stares him down, daring him to get
- 1:01:04himself run. I've played with a bunch, you
- 1:01:07know, just at youth sports. I mean, we get some of the
- 1:01:10absolute worst officials in youth sports because we can't
- 1:01:12get anybody. So you just have to deal with
- 1:01:14it. I always just tell my guys,
- 1:01:16don't, don't worry about the zebras.
- 1:01:18Just control what you can control the next play, right?
- 1:01:21But I would be pretty upset if I was Juan Soto in the Mets and I
- 1:01:25was getting treated like this. It was clearly intentional,
- 1:01:28wasn't it? Here's the thing.
- 1:01:30And I know everybody's going to sit there and say, I'm going to
- 1:01:32take shots at Juan Soto. I think Juan Soto is a great
- 1:01:36player and he has one of the best eyes in baseball.
- 1:01:39But when Juan Soto comes out and says the things that he says
- 1:01:42over the last couple of weeks about money this and money that,
- 1:01:46these these umpires are going to listen and they're not going to
- 1:01:49like it. There are a lot of players over
- 1:01:51the years. Did anybody like Alex Rodriguez?
- 1:01:53How many times did we see Alex Rodriguez get called out on
- 1:01:56strikes and it wasn't even close to the strike zone?
- 1:01:59And then Derek Jeter would go up and get pitched the same way
- 1:02:02and, and walk to first base. If you open your mouth and you
- 1:02:06say things, it comes back and it haunts you.
- 1:02:09Sometimes you just got to shut your mouth and just play the
- 1:02:11damn game. I think Juan Soto, he likes to
- 1:02:13dance in prance. Remember what he did with the
- 1:02:15Yankees? He was in the, it was in the
- 1:02:18ALCS against Cleveland doing what he was doing and winking
- 1:02:22and, and all that stuff at the plate.
- 1:02:24And then he hits a home run, a bomb and and takes the Yankees
- 1:02:27all the way to the World Series. People don't like that.
- 1:02:30Did anybody like Bryce Harper when he threw the bat?
- 1:02:32How many times do we see people complain about Bryce Harper's
- 1:02:35antics at the plate? When you do things like that,
- 1:02:38umpires remember it. I'm not saying it was right, but
- 1:02:41maybe Juan Soto needs to learn his lesson.
- 1:02:45That's what I'm going to. Say, you're always going to get
- 1:02:46that more with modern players anyway, with the personalities,
- 1:02:49the eccentricness. Now, obviously people were
- 1:02:50calling Juan Soto boring for the first month of the season.
- 1:02:53Then all of a sudden. He's job, but what are you
- 1:02:54flexing? Getting that personality going.
- 1:02:56But again, this is a case where like you.
- 1:02:59Were saying I'm stressing. Like you were saying, Fish, this
- 1:03:01is a guy has had the best on base percentage in baseball
- 1:03:05since he's come into the league too.
- 1:03:06So it's tough to argue with the one in the three pitches there
- 1:03:09that those goals were definitely balls.
- 1:03:11You could tell the catcher was really trying hard to frame
- 1:03:13those ones. It just, it bugs me too.
- 1:03:17Like I, I get they're not going to be perfect.
- 1:03:21Obviously there's only been a few perfect games spelled.
- 1:03:23But like when you just stare at them, you're just asking like an
- 1:03:27umpire's egos are sometimes, if not most of the time, bigger
- 1:03:32than the players because they don't, they don't, they don't
- 1:03:34have to be held accountable. They could suck and still have
- 1:03:36their job. Like they don't really truly,
- 1:03:39genuinely care. Some do.
- 1:03:41I'm not saying all, I'm not saying all, but some just like
- 1:03:44I'm here for a paycheck. You can't fire me if I, if I'm
- 1:03:47terrible, I don't have to answer any of your questions anyway, so
- 1:03:50who cares? But when you sit there and just
- 1:03:52stare at me, you're just asking me to say something like, why
- 1:03:56are you staring at me? Like grow up, like I can ask you
- 1:04:01to let, hey, would you, would you go look at that?
- 1:04:03Because they all get disked after the game of their calls.
- 1:04:06Yeah. But you know, they're not
- 1:04:08studying film. They're not going to look at it
- 1:04:11because they don't have to, because their job is safe unless
- 1:04:15they do something crazy, bet on baseball, get caught with a drug
- 1:04:20test. Like you really have to do
- 1:04:22something to to get out of that union.
- 1:04:24And they'll protect you because that's just what they do.
- 1:04:27So does a. Crybaby Jabba.
- 1:04:29He's a crybaby. I but I don't care.
- 1:04:31Those are balls, Yeah. That's fine, shut your mouth.
- 1:04:35Why they're balls? All right, they're balls.
- 1:04:38I got balls in my pants. What does that matter?
- 1:04:40That has nothing to do with what we're talking.
- 1:04:42About obviously doesn't, but if Juan Soda is going to go out
- 1:04:45there and open his damn mouth as he's done over and over and over
- 1:04:49again. I've seen one sort of attack.
- 1:04:51Why? Why punish?
- 1:04:53Why that's you're punishing me because you don't like him as a
- 1:04:56person called the game the way the game should be called.
- 1:04:59That's why we have umpires. That's why they're trying to
- 1:05:01bring in, what do they call it, Electric.
- 1:05:03Yeah, yeah, that's what they're trying to do.
- 1:05:06And a. Little bit of tap in the head
- 1:05:07and it would have been all figured out, right?
- 1:05:10Yeah, I mean, I just you, you don't have to like me.
- 1:05:14That's exactly the same thing as all these, like, votes.
- 1:05:16And you, you even said it. Like when do you take away from
- 1:05:19the riders or whatever, you're going to take it away from the
- 1:05:22umpires? Like, yeah, if and, and even
- 1:05:25Jake said this when we interviewed him on Monday.
- 1:05:27If you rub the media guy the wrong way, he's not voting for
- 1:05:30you. It doesn't matter whether you
- 1:05:32deserve it or not. That's just a human element.
- 1:05:36You just answered your question. I think that's probably it.
- 1:05:40You know, it's a lot. Sometimes it's.
- 1:05:41He rubbed them the wrong. Way how you say it.
- 1:05:43Like a genie in a bottle, baby. Let's go through some of the
- 1:05:47injuries quickly. So Acuna apparently was playing
- 1:05:52through a calf injury and guess what happened?
- 1:05:54I don't know if he was wearing Nikes Errol but I do know.
- 1:05:57My pinky is bigger. Than yours they haven't said
- 1:06:00anything definitive, they just saying a strain.
- 1:06:03They haven't got jumped to like it's torn or anything like that.
- 1:06:06But Ronald Cunha Junior is going to be out for a little while.
- 1:06:09Byron Buxton having the best year he's had.
- 1:06:11But the old Buxton, IL trip as finally happened.
- 1:06:16Ribs for him and Cheerio was legging out a triple, pulled up
- 1:06:20his hamstring. He's going to be OK.
- 1:06:21It looks like Ian Hap had another thing with his foot.
- 1:06:24They didn't think he was going to play.
- 1:06:25Hit a home run today. So not a lot of injuries that's
- 1:06:28up there. And the one guy that I want to
- 1:06:30talk about coming back is Louise Heel.
- 1:06:32Louise Heel returns on Sunday, last year's rookie of the year
- 1:06:35for the American League. Louise Heel as we come back to
- 1:06:39the Yankees rotation that desperately needs shot in the.
- 1:06:42Eye I will say this about Acuna. That was the one that really
- 1:06:44stuck out to me. Acuna was having a sensational
- 1:06:46year. He's coming back from a bad
- 1:06:48injury and then he goes down again.
- 1:06:50He'll never be healthy. That's the problem with Ronald
- 1:06:52Acuna. This guy is one of the best 5
- 1:06:54tool players we've ever seen and the Braves have ever had.
- 1:06:58Just think about this and every time this guy is starting to
- 1:07:02play well and show he's back, he goes down again.
- 1:07:06And I think this is more significant than they're saying
- 1:07:08it is. They just want to cover it up To
- 1:07:11me. I just feel bad for the kid.
- 1:07:12He's he's a great baseball player.
- 1:07:14I don't know if he'll ever become the player that we
- 1:07:17thought he was going to become because he can't stay healthy as
- 1:07:20far. As Byron Buxton too, yeah.
- 1:07:22Buxton, too, is another one. #1 Prospect of baseball.
- 1:07:24Yeah, but I think Acuna is a guy that I just, I'm just like
- 1:07:27shocked he's hurt again. I just, I hearing a surge,
- 1:07:31hearing a guy that just had surgery, major surgery and said
- 1:07:34that he's never going to be a 512 player.
- 1:07:36We don't even know if he's going to be the same outfielder and
- 1:07:39then he comes back and he's playing as well as he is.
- 1:07:41It's pretty fun to watch. And now we're watching.
- 1:07:44And the Braves are not a good team right now.
- 1:07:46They're just not playing well. But you get a chance to watch
- 1:07:48Ronald Lacuna every single day. What are you watching now?
- 1:07:51What are you getting? What are you looking forward to
- 1:07:54watching when it comes to the Atlanta Braves?
- 1:07:55Yeah, we were talking about it with Josh Towers a few weeks
- 1:07:58ago. He was saying, oh, the entire
- 1:07:59Dodgers training staff needs to be fired.
- 1:08:01The Braves might be doing that too with we're talking about the
- 1:08:03pitching injuries on Monday, Java.
- 1:08:05And then now all of a sudden this you, you the number one
- 1:08:07thing you have to realize is you're coming back from a guy
- 1:08:09that had multiple leg injuries and then you're still doing
- 1:08:12still doing a lot of the same things.
- 1:08:13But something's got to happen if they want to keep their
- 1:08:15franchise player happy. Well, boys, look, it's going to
- 1:08:21be pretty tough. I will say this and I want to
- 1:08:24say something about Luis Heel. I love it.
- 1:08:26I'm happy for him. Can't wait to see the kid come
- 1:08:28back. He's going to add a little bit
- 1:08:30more spunk to that rotation. The only thing is the season to
- 1:08:35me is over for the Yankees. Him coming back right now, it's
- 1:08:39just a mistake. We don't want to see him go
- 1:08:41down. We want to see him ready for
- 1:08:42next year. I would just sit him out for the
- 1:08:44rest of the season. I, I, I know everybody's going
- 1:08:47to say the season's not over. I mean, I had Keith attacked me
- 1:08:51on and off air telling me, you know how what you're talking
- 1:08:53about. They still have a chance to make
- 1:08:55a run. Fine, Yankee fans, you want to
- 1:08:58believe they have a chance to make a run.
- 1:09:00I, I'm sorry, I just don't think they're good enough.
- 1:09:02But I, I'm, I'm looking forward to seeing what Luisio adds to
- 1:09:05that rotation. They need it.
- 1:09:07Losing Clark Schmidt again for the rest of the season.
- 1:09:11It really just, it just makes you shake your head.
- 1:09:13And again, I just want to see Luis.
- 1:09:16He'll come back slowly. I don't want to see the Yankees
- 1:09:19kind of drag him and then put him in a bad position and where
- 1:09:22he gets hurt again. And he's out a significant
- 1:09:25amount of time next year. But it's a great story.
- 1:09:27I'm looking forward to seeing the kid on the mountain.
- 1:09:31All right, boys, let's move on to the last story for INSIDE
- 1:09:34Baseball. I don't know if you saw this.
- 1:09:36So we had some dugouts being emptied not that long ago.
- 1:09:40We had a bench is clear in Texas.
- 1:09:44I believe they were in Texas. Mike Trout was hit by a pitch.
- 1:09:49Corey Seeger was hit by a pitch. Youngster Zach Neato is one of
- 1:09:53the better young shortstops in the game for the Angels.
- 1:09:56Probably their best young player was also hit.
- 1:10:00Luis Renfigo, Rengifo, everyone was getting hit, so there was
- 1:10:05one. They loaded the bases on
- 1:10:06back-to-back pitches, clearly didn't have control.
- 1:10:10The Texas pitcher and then the Angels, who have an interim
- 1:10:13manager named Ray Montgomery. Ludu.
- 1:10:16They seem to tell his guys to go after him.
- 1:10:19We haven't really seen a lot of that in recent years and
- 1:10:21obviously Texas is a Bruce Bocchi coach.
- 1:10:25Team in Texas is pretty hot. They're only a few games out of
- 1:10:28wild card contention. I told you about Texas, by the
- 1:10:32way, and if they sneak into the playoffs, watch out Bruce Pochi,
- 1:10:36they got a tremendous lineup. And by the way, they have two
- 1:10:40sensational pitchers that can pitch.
- 1:10:43So I, I'm telling you right now, watch out for Texas and the
- 1:10:47lineup is, is deadly. That infield, Corey Seeker, if
- 1:10:50he's healthy, I mean, he can hit right handers, left handers.
- 1:10:53They got a tremendous amount of talent.
- 1:10:55I can see Texas again, the American League, there's a lot
- 1:10:58of questions with the American League.
- 1:10:59Detroit's up and he's down. They're down.
- 1:11:01Since the All Star break, the Blue Jays have been the hottest
- 1:11:04team right now in the American League.
- 1:11:06But are they going to be able to sustain that?
- 1:11:08And I don't know if I trust the Blue Jays pitching staff more
- 1:11:12than I trust the Texas Rangers pitching staff, especially with
- 1:11:15Jacob degrom and the one and only Speedy.
- 1:11:19Jacob degrom. Yeah.
- 1:11:21Yes, that's right. But you know the other pitcher?
- 1:11:23Who's the other pitcher? Play for the Yankees.
- 1:11:26Play for the Red Sox. Oh, Nathan Devaldi there.
- 1:11:28You go. I'm trying to I lead him to what
- 1:11:31the where the hell is this kid? Is he lost in translation?
- 1:11:35His brains in another world? He's in speedy world, OK.
- 1:11:39Evaldi Evaldi's a different dude in the playoffs, too.
- 1:11:42He's sensational. Oh my God.
- 1:11:44Hey, but did you see that fight? I don't know if I saw it, but
- 1:11:47did Boch was going hammer time. Yes, and Boch don't move fast.
- 1:11:52But there was some assertiveness in that, in that little, that
- 1:11:55little hitch in his giddy up. And he, he was going in and he
- 1:11:58was right in the business. I would love, I would love to
- 1:12:02play for him. I I love guys like that.
- 1:12:04I mean, old school. Has a great feel for the game,
- 1:12:07protects his players, stands up for his players.
- 1:12:10Has a gigantic Dome. Yeah, I think it's huge.
- 1:12:16It's like an 8 and an eighth or something.
- 1:12:18It's monstrous. Hammer time.
- 1:12:20I mean, there's a couple of good drops in this one.
- 1:12:22Good night. But yeah, it's and and crazy.
- 1:12:27You know, it's it. I don't know if that inner
- 1:12:30manager is trying to spark things up whatever, but when
- 1:12:33you're going to get boat, you think Boche is going to back
- 1:12:35down. No, he's going to he's going to
- 1:12:36top step you and and get his his hitch in a giddy up and he he's
- 1:12:40going to come back. That's a good one.
- 1:12:42Breaking news. Do you want to jerk me off?
- 1:12:45But yeah, it's, it's a, it's a baseball scuffle.
- 1:12:50Nothing crazy. I, by the way, I love Bruce
- 1:12:54Boche. I love.
- 1:12:55It Hall of Fame. Best manager, best manager in
- 1:12:58baseball, I don't think you can argue that.
- 1:13:00I mean, you could argue Terry Francona.
- 1:13:02I think he's the closest thing to Bruce Bochy, but Bruce Bochy
- 1:13:06is unbelievable. And if you see, he's the only
- 1:13:09Major League coach in Major League history to take not one,
- 1:13:12not 2, but three different teams to a World Series.
- 1:13:16So that's that's an amazing stat.
- 1:13:18And and by the way, won multiple World Series too.
- 1:13:22So I, I, you can't argue this guy's as great as anybody we've
- 1:13:26seen in the game. So great story and I and I'm
- 1:13:29looking to see if Texas can make the run.
- 1:13:31If Texas makes a run and they make the playoffs.
- 1:13:34I don't think anybody wants to play the Texas Rangers in a wild
- 1:13:37card game. So just my opinion there.
- 1:13:40And if they win the division, even more scarier.
- 1:13:43All right, Speedy, are we, are we going to go through the let's
- 1:13:45parlay picks? Sure, Yes, Weston sends the
- 1:13:48picks. CFL picks he's got for this
- 1:13:52week. Toronto covering the plus 6 1/2
- 1:13:55point spread. Toronto on the road against. 79%
- 1:14:01this year, yeah. 79%, yes. He's CFL picks.
- 1:14:05So he's got Saskatchewan covering on the road against
- 1:14:08Winnipeg, the Blue Bombers, He's got Calgary covering plus 3 1/2
- 1:14:12against the Ottawa Red Blacks on the road, and then Hamilton home
- 1:14:16favorites. He's got them winning outright
- 1:14:18-3 1/2 against Edmonton and then Saskatchewan against Montreal at
- 1:14:22home at -3 1/2. It's interesting and I will say
- 1:14:25this for all you fans out there that hasn't tuned in and hasn't
- 1:14:29taken anything Wes has said for the CFL, and I know Carl thinks
- 1:14:34it's absolutely bogus. If you're a betting man or woman
- 1:14:38and you want to make money, you should be listening to Wes's
- 1:14:41picks. I think they're sensational. 79%
- 1:14:45all season long. Just think about that. 79 And by
- 1:14:49the way, Fish has been taking some bets on the one and only W
- 1:14:53picks so and he's made a couple of bucks.
- 1:14:56Wes is killing it right now. He's making a ton of money and
- 1:14:59he's doing so many things right now off air that I'm not going
- 1:15:02to mention because he doesn't want me to throw him under the
- 1:15:04bus he's doing the right thing as we always say thank you to
