- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up on this week's episode of Hip Hop Now podcast,
- 0:05Speaker 1: more flowers for the clips, this time at the Vatican.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Doctor Dre has a diplomatic album he produced that will
- 0:14Speaker 1: Never Drop.
- 0:16Speaker 2: In my review on.
- 0:18Speaker 1: The official release of Jay Electronica's other solo album, Act two,
- 0:27Speaker 1: along with a bonus Yeah it got complicated last night,
- 0:34Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 0:37Speaker 2: Welcome to Hip Hop Now Podcasts.
- 0:42Speaker 1: If you from the future, you know what the dudish,
- 0:49Speaker 1: so disrespectful hip hop is say to today.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Let's get right into the business. What up, y'all?
- 0:58Speaker 1: I am your host Vegas and this is a Hip
- 1:01Speaker 1: Hop Now podcast.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Coming to you from the dungeons of rap.
- 1:08Speaker 1: I used to say that when I was in my garage,
- 1:10Speaker 1: but it's not necessarily true now. But nevertheless, Welcome to
- 1:15Speaker 1: those listening in audio form, whether you be a new listener,
- 1:19Speaker 1: welcome or returning listener, Welcome back. Big shout out to
- 1:26Speaker 1: to everybody who's been listening to audio form. I believe
- 1:29Speaker 1: sometime next year it will be ten years for this podcast,
- 1:33Speaker 1: which is crazy, and probably two years for the video
- 1:41Speaker 1: version of this podcast right here on YouTube. Regardless of
- 1:45Speaker 1: how you found a podcast, whether it's through shorts or
- 1:52Speaker 1: I don't know these videos, this weekly podcast, videos specials
- 1:57Speaker 1: like that Time and hip hop. Whatever way you found
- 2:01Speaker 1: this podcast, even through other social media platforms. The best
- 2:05Speaker 1: thing you could do to help a brother out is
- 2:08Speaker 1: to subscribe. And if you really love the content and
- 2:11Speaker 1: you want to support the content, you can become a member.
- 2:14Speaker 1: The information is right in the description of this episode
- 2:18Speaker 1: with the link to tell you all about what membership is.
- 2:22Speaker 1: But I'll tell you briefly is basically, you donate to
- 2:26Speaker 1: the podcast and you get exclusive content.
- 2:29Speaker 2: You get to.
- 2:30Speaker 1: Watch some of my videos typically mostly like the bonus
- 2:36Speaker 1: content in advance of when it goes live. For everyone else,
- 2:41Speaker 1: hold up, I keep forgetting to turn off my notifications.
- 2:45Speaker 2: It's a bone. There we go.
- 2:46Speaker 1: You probably didn't hear that, but so what. But one
- 2:51Speaker 1: thing to note is you don't have to give to watch. Obviously,
- 2:56Speaker 1: you don't have to donate in any form, whether that's
- 3:00Speaker 1: becoming a member of the channel or purchasing merch but
- 3:04Speaker 1: please do know that, Please know that this helps out
- 3:08Speaker 1: the channel in a lot of ways because all of
- 3:10Speaker 1: the proceeds from anything cash, add whatever you may send
- 3:17Speaker 1: my way goes right back into the production of the podcast. Well,
- 3:21Speaker 1: let me say, the production and the promotions of the podcast,
- 3:25Speaker 1: because you know, sometimes there's equipment upgrades that need to happen,
- 3:29Speaker 1: like lights which I have now, like four K camer
- 3:33Speaker 1: which I have now. Also software right this video software
- 3:39Speaker 1: that I've paid for that works well for me now, right,
- 3:44Speaker 1: But there's also audio software that comes with a monthly fee,
- 3:48Speaker 1: you know, that.
- 3:48Speaker 2: May go towards that, or.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Even if it's a little bit of money, it may
- 3:55Speaker 1: just go towards advertisement on social media, which I've done
- 4:00Speaker 1: a couple of times in the past. So thanks to
- 4:02Speaker 1: everybody who supported, whether you was here during Patreon or
- 4:06Speaker 1: you're here now.
- 4:06Speaker 2: But if you hang out on YouTube, being a member
- 4:09Speaker 2: is the dope thing.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Don't forget to hype the video and all that good
- 4:15Speaker 1: stuff and super chats and I'll have some live streams
- 4:17Speaker 1: coming up down the line as we get into some
- 4:22Speaker 1: interesting albums and topics throughout the year. So if that said,
- 4:29Speaker 1: big shout out to Hip HOPDX dot com, Double XL
- 4:33Speaker 1: mag and a couple of places where I'm getting my
- 4:35Speaker 1: stories from. Let's get right to the business stuff, the clips.
- 4:41Speaker 1: It's a situation where the clips are essentially the biggest
- 4:46Speaker 1: thing of the year. We might as well come out
- 4:49Speaker 1: with it and just say it, right, Even if you
- 4:52Speaker 1: didn't like the album, it's hard to pause. It's hard
- 4:58Speaker 1: to not agree that their album captured a big moment
- 5:04Speaker 1: in hip hop and a similar way to the Drake
- 5:08Speaker 1: in Kendrick Lamar battle. Right, everybody was talking about it,
- 5:13Speaker 1: everybody was going to the tour. Not everybody, but you
- 5:17Speaker 1: know what I mean, buying vinyl, like that's probably the
- 5:20Speaker 1: first time I bought vinyl for a new album right away,
- 5:27Speaker 1: like I had to have it, which is something I
- 5:29Speaker 1: went out and did the rollout right, the tiny Desks
- 5:35Speaker 1: being on all the shows giving quotables and interviews, Malice
- 5:42Speaker 1: turning into memes, Malice being like probably MC of the
- 5:49Speaker 1: Year easily. And I don't only say that because of
- 5:53Speaker 1: the Clips album, because if you listen to the record
- 5:55Speaker 1: community on on Jid's album.
- 6:02Speaker 2: Malices Verse, it's crazy.
- 6:07Speaker 1: And he's been a guest on a couple of other
- 6:09Speaker 1: projects where he got busy, and he's going to be
- 6:11Speaker 1: on MOB Deeps album also, but well, the Clips will
- 6:15Speaker 1: be on MYB Deeps album.
- 6:17Speaker 2: But that's what I mean. It's like the Clips have
- 6:21Speaker 2: just been big and now they just did something even bigger.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Right, So this week it was this is on Hip
- 6:28Speaker 1: Hop DX dot com. Clips performed first ever rap concert
- 6:33Speaker 1: at the Vatican. At the Vatican, the Clips Coke rappers,
- 6:45Speaker 1: I stuffed a blizzard in a Honda Civic white glove service.
- 6:53Speaker 1: I am Luigi at the Vatican. Now, I didn't watch set,
- 7:00Speaker 1: so the only song I heard was probably the most
- 7:07Speaker 1: appropriate song for the Vatican, I assume, which was the
- 7:12Speaker 1: first song off the album where they talk about you know,
- 7:15Speaker 1: their parents and passing, which is a song that it's
- 7:20Speaker 1: it's almost like a perfect set of for the album.
- 7:22Speaker 1: But I'm not gonna review the album. Uh again, you
- 7:26Speaker 1: can check it out on the channel. We did a
- 7:27Speaker 1: whole breakdown review and all that good stuff. But I'll
- 7:30Speaker 1: say this, every time the Clips start to die down
- 7:36Speaker 1: and we start to get in the groove of other
- 7:38Speaker 1: albums as far as their exposure in the public, something
- 7:43Speaker 1: else happens to remind you. Right, Like you know, when
- 7:47Speaker 1: it starts to die down a little bit, there shows happen.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And then it was like fighths the song with Stove
- 7:54Speaker 1: God cooks on the hook started to rise and then
- 7:58Speaker 1: stove God was getting on this attention. It was like
- 8:01Speaker 1: and it's just going right back to the Clips album.
- 8:04Speaker 1: And like I said, when I review Jid's album, I
- 8:09Speaker 1: feel like that's one of the best albums of the
- 8:12Speaker 1: year and the Clips are on it. And it's a
- 8:14Speaker 1: good chance that, you know, from what I've heard so far,
- 8:19Speaker 1: like with the Mob Deep Stuff, Clips are on that.
- 8:22Speaker 1: So by the end of the year, it's just going
- 8:24Speaker 1: to be crazy. It's going to be a crazy victory
- 8:27Speaker 1: lap for the Clips.
- 8:31Speaker 2: And I love it.
- 8:32Speaker 1: And one last thing, every time I hear a song
- 8:35Speaker 1: from that album, I want to go listen to the
- 8:38Speaker 1: whole album. Like it's hands down the number probably the
- 8:43Speaker 1: number one album.
- 8:43Speaker 2: You know how they do those year end reviews.
- 8:45Speaker 1: On Apple and Spotify, Clips is going to be at
- 8:51Speaker 1: the very top of mine. It already is when you
- 8:53Speaker 1: look at the replay list for my account, Clips is right,
- 8:58Speaker 1: like damn it, the whole ablems there. So I think
- 9:02Speaker 1: it's a dope look for the Clips to do something
- 9:05Speaker 1: like this. And what I liked about it more than
- 9:09Speaker 1: anything is it felt like it should be then And
- 9:14Speaker 1: I don't know why it was. Maybe it was the
- 9:17Speaker 1: you know, I think they I believe it came out
- 9:19Speaker 1: in tuxedos, and you know, it was kind of like
- 9:22Speaker 1: Na's performing Illmatic was like a classy affair. But it's
- 9:26Speaker 1: something about the articulation, articulation when they're rymen, when they're
- 9:33Speaker 1: really when they're roymen. That's what's most important. The technique.
- 9:39Speaker 1: They sound like, every word matters, every word is worth
- 9:46Speaker 1: millions of dollars. Every word is art right, and that's
- 9:49Speaker 1: how they perform. Also, so to be at the Vatican
- 9:54Speaker 1: and the way it looked also was just like it's perfect.
- 9:59Speaker 1: They could probably do a whole other tour, but just
- 10:03Speaker 1: do it like Nas with this with the symphony and
- 10:08Speaker 1: they ensuits.
- 10:09Speaker 2: There's something to be said about that.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Like when I was watching Nas, I'm like, damn, he's
- 10:13Speaker 1: performing Illmatic and the talk about Project Halways and crack
- 10:17Speaker 1: and all and crackheads. But somehow this is still feels
- 10:22Speaker 1: like high brow, you know, like like hey, yo, don't
- 10:26Speaker 1: don't weigh your dusty times to this event, even though
- 10:30Speaker 1: some people did, but I thought it was dope.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Next same.
- 10:37Speaker 1: Doctor Dre apparently produced some songs for the diplomats back
- 10:42Speaker 1: in the days that are in the vault and apparently
- 10:45Speaker 1: will never be released.
- 10:48Speaker 2: That's what's being said.
- 10:50Speaker 1: And this is allegedly allegedly unreleased music, but somehow I
- 10:56Speaker 1: don't doubt it. This is also from hip hop d
- 10:59Speaker 1: X dot Co Doctor J. Doctor Dre reportedly has a
- 11:03Speaker 1: load of unreleased music he made with Diplomats. According to
- 11:08Speaker 1: Tony Yayo, Now I know what you're going to say, like, wait,
- 11:11Speaker 1: what gen you and it Tony ya yo, Like what
- 11:14Speaker 1: the hell? But remember, like Tony Yo has a relationship
- 11:18Speaker 1: with Dre also, and he was around fifty and you know,
- 11:21Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure Dre talks and all that good stuff.
- 11:25Speaker 1: But this was on Shannon Sharp's podcast Club Shayshe which
- 11:31Speaker 1: I do not watch, but I do watch Nightcap.
- 11:33Speaker 2: I like Nightcap for sports.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Uh, and he revealed this if I could get past
- 11:39Speaker 1: it to god damn advertisement he said, and I quote,
- 11:43Speaker 1: doctor Dre is just a real picky MF. He did
- 11:48Speaker 1: records with Dipset and that ish ain't never come out.
- 11:53Speaker 2: He did.
- 11:54Speaker 1: He did records with certain people and they never coming out.
- 11:58Speaker 1: But he's like a real particular N word. I remember
- 12:02Speaker 1: that he used to tell fifty to do one line
- 12:05Speaker 1: over and over again, do it over say like this,
- 12:09Speaker 1: and I understood. Sometimes it's not what you say is
- 12:12Speaker 1: how you say it. Dre is an efing perfectionist. That
- 12:17Speaker 1: was an experience. Now, if you are extremely close to
- 12:23Speaker 1: hip hoppy, you pay attention to everything. This is not
- 12:26Speaker 1: news doctor Dre being a perfectionist to the point where
- 12:31Speaker 1: if you don't get it right, you're not coming out.
- 12:34Speaker 1: You might get dropped from the label. It's just how
- 12:38Speaker 1: particular he is. But I feel like how Snoop feels.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Snoop feels like I don't care if he asked me
- 12:48Speaker 1: to say the same word one hundred times over because
- 12:51Speaker 1: I know when it's said and done and that album
- 12:54Speaker 1: is finished, it will.
- 12:57Speaker 2: Sound like perfection.
- 12:59Speaker 1: And if you watch this podcast enough, if you listen
- 13:03Speaker 1: to an album, like some people when they think of
- 13:05Speaker 1: doctor Dre, they only go back to Compton, right, which
- 13:09Speaker 1: obviously some of that's there, But the albums that you
- 13:13Speaker 1: really need to listen to to really hear Doctor Dre
- 13:17Speaker 1: at the master level of sound quality. Compton album which
- 13:24Speaker 1: was dope. I know you hate it on it, but
- 13:25Speaker 1: it was dope. But listen to that joint in this
- 13:29Speaker 1: recent missionary album. The sound quality, the crispness of people's voices, lyrics,
- 13:38Speaker 1: articulation like it's so great. It's similar to what I
- 13:41Speaker 1: was just saying about the clips, right, it's and I
- 13:46Speaker 1: don't even think that music is dope, but I don't
- 13:48Speaker 1: think quality wise, it's on the level of what Dre does,
- 13:53Speaker 1: like what he did with Marsha Ambrosia.
- 13:55Speaker 2: Like if you have.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Good headphones, but if you have excellent headphones that really
- 14:03Speaker 1: especially like the over the ear joints that take advantage
- 14:06Speaker 1: of the quality of the sound, the and they kind
- 14:10Speaker 1: of represent if it's plugged in, right and not bluetooth.
- 14:13Speaker 1: If it's they kind of represent what the engineer, what
- 14:19Speaker 1: the producer, the artists created, right.
- 14:24Speaker 2: It's not a dumb down version, a compressed version.
- 14:27Speaker 1: It's like every everything they wanted you to hear, you
- 14:31Speaker 1: need some really quality headphones in order to take it
- 14:36Speaker 1: take advantage of that. And you know, streaming services like
- 14:39Speaker 1: Apple will and now Spotify have lossless audio, so you
- 14:43Speaker 1: can really get that because there are plenty of albums
- 14:47Speaker 1: I know, for me just a little sidebar where you know,
- 14:50Speaker 1: I've heard them for years and you know maybe they've
- 14:54Speaker 1: added spatial audio.
- 14:55Speaker 2: Or something like that.
- 14:56Speaker 1: And the minute I got headphones that could take advantage
- 14:59Speaker 1: of some of that, I was like, Wow, this album
- 15:03Speaker 1: sounds different, Like I'm hearing things I don't remember hearing
- 15:07Speaker 1: in the records previously, and they were there, but they
- 15:11Speaker 1: were subdued, like for example, Biggie's Somebody got the what's
- 15:18Speaker 1: the YouTube term when you don't want to well, I
- 15:22Speaker 1: don't get amount of tize anyway. Somebody gotta die, right,
- 15:27Speaker 1: I remember back in the days, me and my friends
- 15:30Speaker 1: like played around with the audio and we can only
- 15:33Speaker 1: hear the backtrack and it was like a big and
- 15:38Speaker 1: puff created like a whole damn movie under Somebody Got
- 15:43Speaker 1: to Die, like with sound effects and everything.
- 15:46Speaker 2: All you heard was the talking, the steps, the rain,
- 15:49Speaker 2: like it was crazy.
- 15:51Speaker 1: But we had to do something with the stereo in
- 15:53Speaker 1: order to hear that right, and we just listened to
- 15:56Speaker 1: it like, damn, it's crazy, it's dead because you really
- 15:58Speaker 1: couldn't hear it in the song. You can hear that
- 16:01Speaker 1: there were things happening in the background, but it wasn't clear.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Well.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I listened to that same song a couple of days ago,
- 16:10Speaker 1: the remastered version that I bought a while ago, and
- 16:14Speaker 1: now that background was like it was almost too clear,
- 16:18Speaker 1: So I was, you know, I liked it, but then
- 16:22Speaker 1: at the same time, I was kind of like, my
- 16:26Speaker 1: tension span is going from Biggs lyrics to that and
- 16:29Speaker 1: back and forth. But I said all of that to
- 16:32Speaker 1: say that is how doctor Dre rolls like. He is
- 16:37Speaker 1: a perfectionist. He does not want to put anything out
- 16:42Speaker 1: that he doesn't feel is up to par. And it
- 16:45Speaker 1: was the main reason why we never got Detox because
- 16:50Speaker 1: Doctor Dre didn't feel like it was ready for prime time,
- 16:54Speaker 1: which is unfortunate because everybody we talked about it was like, oh,
- 16:58Speaker 1: songs is crazy, blah blah blah. But Doctor Dre like, Nah,
- 17:02Speaker 1: this ain't it. This is not what I want to do. Eventually,
- 17:06Speaker 1: I get the feeling in this day and age, we'll
- 17:09Speaker 1: probably hear something, whether it's from the diplomat side, Rock
- 17:15Speaker 1: Him stuff, Eve whoever, and whatever else he got in
- 17:19Speaker 1: the vault that's on lot.
- 17:22Speaker 2: But I don't think doctor Dre will release it himself
- 17:26Speaker 2: because he don't want us to hear that. So lastly,
- 17:32Speaker 2: speaking of in the vault.
- 17:37Speaker 1: And coming outside, but maybe everybody already played Freeze tag
- 17:44Speaker 1: and now they're going to eat dinner in you late
- 17:47Speaker 1: Jay Electronica has officially released his solo album at two
- 17:55Speaker 1: the Patents of Nobility, the turn that's a lot. But
- 18:02Speaker 1: he also released a written testimony leaf flets. Now, I
- 18:10Speaker 1: know you're saying to yourself, what the hell is going
- 18:12Speaker 1: on and what is that? Back in twenty twenty, when
- 18:18Speaker 1: Jay Electronica released a surprise to most of us. This
- 18:22Speaker 1: was during the lockdown and all of that with COVID
- 18:25Speaker 1: the pandemic, he released an album called A Written Testimony.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Everybody was like, let's go listen to it. But when
- 18:36Speaker 1: we listen to it, be like, damn. Jay Z is
- 18:37Speaker 1: on every record, and he sounds way better than Jay
- 18:43Speaker 1: Electronica on here. It's almost a jay Z album, the
- 18:48Speaker 1: way he commands his bars on hand and he's getting busy,
- 18:51Speaker 1: like jay Z was rapping in the way he had
- 18:54Speaker 1: hadn't rapped years on that album, which was supposed to
- 18:58Speaker 1: be Jay Electronanica's album.
- 19:01Speaker 2: And I liked it. I know some people who didn't
- 19:05Speaker 2: like it.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I know some people who was like, yo, we waited
- 19:08Speaker 1: all this time for Jay Electronica to drop an album
- 19:11Speaker 1: like ten years, and when he drops one, not only
- 19:16Speaker 1: is jay Z on damn every song, but he's also.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Out shining Jay Electronica.
- 19:24Speaker 1: So Tom and not that much time, maybe a week
- 19:28Speaker 1: or two went by, and then all of a sudden
- 19:32Speaker 1: an album appeared That was j Electronica's solo album and
- 19:37Speaker 1: it featured jay Z but maybe on a song, a
- 19:42Speaker 1: song or two, maybe like three songs and one is
- 19:44Speaker 1: like the hook and then some talking. But for the
- 19:47Speaker 1: most part it was like, oh, this is the album
- 19:50Speaker 1: we were waiting for, but apparently it was leaked. Now
- 19:56Speaker 1: all of us had it and continue to have it.
- 20:00Speaker 1: But it was kind of weird because when you listen
- 20:04Speaker 1: to the album, if you know, you said, to yourself,
- 20:10Speaker 1: is this the album Just Blaze was talking about? Because
- 20:15Speaker 1: he was really talking about it, and this album is
- 20:19Speaker 1: really like low key and this just doesn't I don't
- 20:24Speaker 1: think this is what just Blaze was talking about. So
- 20:29Speaker 1: with that being said, back then, I probably did a
- 20:31Speaker 1: review of the album. But because the album is now
- 20:35Speaker 1: officially released it's out, I listened to it. It's basically
- 20:41Speaker 1: the same album, I think, even quality wise. The covers
- 20:45Speaker 1: different that Written Testimony Leaflets has the exact same cover
- 20:53Speaker 1: if I'm not mistaken, And on the one hand, it
- 20:58Speaker 1: feels like okay, and by the way, this is I
- 21:02Speaker 1: know Jay Electronica. I believe is off of rock Nation
- 21:06Speaker 1: now and maybe signed to Griselda. I think that was
- 21:10Speaker 1: the word. But these projects, all three of these albums
- 21:14Speaker 1: I mentioned, including a written testimony from twenty twenty, are
- 21:18Speaker 1: all distributed through rock Nation, it says it.
- 21:23Speaker 2: So I went ahead and did.
- 21:25Speaker 1: What I typically do when I review album because I
- 21:28Speaker 1: hadn't listened to this album since probably twenty twenty. At
- 21:34Speaker 1: two features fourteen songs and clocks in around forty three minutes.
- 21:42Speaker 1: If it features Rikabadu, jay Z and a couple of
- 21:51Speaker 1: other people who I can't see their name, so whatever.
- 21:56Speaker 1: One feature is Ronald Reagan, but it is a feature
- 21:59Speaker 1: if you just playing stuff. So when it comes to
- 22:03Speaker 1: the reviews, if you don't know, I gave it three listens,
- 22:06Speaker 1: one just to get my impressions. The second listen is
- 22:10Speaker 1: to kind of listen a little bit more intently the
- 22:13Speaker 1: goal of the album, the theme, the music, all the thing,
- 22:16Speaker 1: all the things about the album. And the third listen
- 22:19Speaker 1: is just to confirm my thoughts for the quick reviewers.
- 22:24Speaker 1: I have the same opinion I had in twenty twenty.
- 22:28Speaker 1: It's okay, a written testimony is better?
- 22:32Speaker 2: Now? What does that say?
- 22:34Speaker 1: Knowing that Jay Z's on damn near every song of
- 22:37Speaker 1: that album. It says that I think in summary, right
- 22:44Speaker 1: that some people are going to be extremely disappointed if
- 22:51Speaker 1: they never heard this album, and some people are going
- 22:54Speaker 1: to be extremely happy. And I'm gonna tell you why
- 22:57Speaker 1: those two are so different. The people who would be
- 23:00Speaker 1: extremely disappointed are the people who when they heard Exhibit
- 23:08Speaker 1: A through C, but especially Exhibit C, that was the bar.
- 23:14Speaker 1: Excuse me, that was the expectation for a Jay electronica
- 23:19Speaker 1: album that they've waited ten years to hear, right, And
- 23:24Speaker 1: if you didn't have the bootleg now you was waiting
- 23:26Speaker 1: fifteen right, fifteen years so because this album does not
- 23:33Speaker 1: sound like Exhibit ABS. Maybe A, but it definitely doesn't
- 23:39Speaker 1: sound like Exhibit C at all that energy you got
- 23:43Speaker 1: from a Jay Electronica it's mostly not here, right. The
- 23:50Speaker 1: type of that type of production is definitely not here. Now,
- 23:54Speaker 1: there's some dope production, because there's some dope records here,
- 23:57Speaker 1: but we've been listening to these records from the album
- 24:02Speaker 1: for over a decade now, and that's not even that's
- 24:06Speaker 1: not alive for like over a decade, like for example,
- 24:09Speaker 1: Shiny Suit Theory with Jay z Man, we was we
- 24:14Speaker 1: had that record eons ago. You know what I'm saying.
- 24:17Speaker 1: I don't know how long is the eon, but you
- 24:19Speaker 1: get it a long ass time ago. Okay, that's what
- 24:23Speaker 1: it means. But I kind of felt I'm not.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Gonna lie that for the other people who would love
- 24:32Speaker 2: this album.
- 24:33Speaker 1: This is a sequel to Style Wars, right, remember the EP,
- 24:38Speaker 1: that EP slash album that kind of that features Act
- 24:43Speaker 1: one right, that people discovered, like myself discovered Ja Electronica
- 24:50Speaker 1: and really dug his use of like samples of people
- 24:57Speaker 1: talking of from like cartoons or in that case is
- 25:00Speaker 1: Willie Wonker. Like people enjoy like this eclectic, mixed bag
- 25:07Speaker 1: of beats, some beat teams, rapping over with Dyla also
- 25:12Speaker 1: and delivery, and it was it was just kind of
- 25:17Speaker 1: it was the reason why we liked Jay Electronica. So
- 25:21Speaker 1: it's like there's two different versions of him, right, and
- 25:26Speaker 1: this album is the original. It's not the just Blaze exhibitsy,
- 25:31Speaker 1: it's the original version. So when you go into it
- 25:35Speaker 1: with that mind state, if you've heard Style Wars or
- 25:38Speaker 1: you own it, when you listen to this, everything makes sense.
- 25:43Speaker 1: The you know, the long intros with you know, Ronald
- 25:48Speaker 1: Reagan talking it's like you you were here for that
- 25:53Speaker 1: because that's what it was. You know what I'm saying
- 25:56Speaker 1: early on, you don't really care about the fact that
- 26:00Speaker 1: there isn't an exhibit see kind of song on here,
- 26:03Speaker 1: because it's really about the messages, the journey, the elements
- 26:09Speaker 1: that bring this album together to make a complete statement again, poetic, eclectic,
- 26:19Speaker 1: all these things. But to me that stuff is niche right,
- 26:24Speaker 1: It's not for everybody. Some people will find this album
- 26:27Speaker 1: to be completely boring and they'd be like, oh, I
- 26:31Speaker 1: like that shiny Soup joined with jay Z he got
- 26:33Speaker 1: busy on that I went from war in the war
- 26:36Speaker 1: and like, like, your that bar was crazy. Yes it is,
- 26:42Speaker 1: but unfortunately you're not getting the album or we're not
- 26:47Speaker 1: getting the album that we expected. Now, granted, given this
- 26:52Speaker 1: fact that this was leaked and everybody had it and
- 26:55Speaker 1: it felt like everybody heard it, only the people who've
- 26:58Speaker 1: never heard it are probably going to jump on it
- 27:00Speaker 1: or didn't have it or don't have it anymore.
- 27:04Speaker 2: I probably I take that back.
- 27:06Speaker 1: I probably listened to it twice because I felt like
- 27:10Speaker 1: when it leaked around the time of a written testimony,
- 27:15Speaker 1: I felt like, Wow, I like this better.
- 27:18Speaker 2: So I was just listening to that.
- 27:20Speaker 1: But somewhere down the line, I listened to this album again,
- 27:25Speaker 1: maybe like in twenty twenty one, just to see and
- 27:29Speaker 1: I felt the same way. I felt like, I don't,
- 27:31Speaker 1: I don't. I think this could have worked for him
- 27:36Speaker 1: before Exhibit SE when Act one was Act one in
- 27:41Speaker 1: some of those mixtapes, when those things were out.
- 27:45Speaker 2: This probably would have worked at.
- 27:46Speaker 1: That time, which is, you know, like oh nine or
- 27:50Speaker 1: something or twenty ten, you fast forward that many years
- 27:54Speaker 1: in advance after Exhibit C.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Kind of made Jay Electronica name and hip hop.
- 28:03Speaker 1: People wanted that, and we do not hear what just
- 28:06Speaker 1: Blaze was talking about in this album, So just real quick.
- 28:14Speaker 1: The other release today, Written Testimony Leaflets, seven songs, twenty
- 28:21Speaker 1: eight minutes, features include Quentin Miller, who y'all know him
- 28:27Speaker 1: from Drake.
- 28:30Speaker 2: And Dram y'all know him from Drake. This one, honestly,
- 28:36Speaker 2: unless you.
- 28:36Speaker 1: Really, really really really loved Jay Electronica and you just
- 28:42Speaker 1: want all the things you didn't get, this is for you,
- 28:47Speaker 1: because quite honestly, I probably won't listen to any of
- 28:52Speaker 1: this ever.
- 28:52Speaker 2: Again.
- 28:53Speaker 1: I mean, there's a certain level of interest, but it's
- 28:58Speaker 1: just not it's just not the time, not after the clips,
- 29:02Speaker 1: not after every Supreme clientele too, not after all jed like,
- 29:06Speaker 1: not after what we've been getting.
- 29:10Speaker 2: So maybe.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Because of Jay electronica situation, maybe we're going to get
- 29:18Speaker 1: new music on Griselda and maybe this is before we
- 29:23Speaker 1: get there. Let's put out the things officially. So have
- 29:29Speaker 1: you heard Jay Electronica's album Act two? Where you disappointed
- 29:35Speaker 1: when you finally got a true solo album from Jay
- 29:39Speaker 1: Electronica or were you completely satisfied because this is the
- 29:45Speaker 1: Jay Electronica you want to hear. Leave your comments in
