- 0:00Do you want know? I five, it's Erica DeLong sitting down with doctor
- 0:02Glen Lyle. Lyle Plastic Surgery and Aesthetics Center now going on eight months into
- 0:06the new year with your new practice, and you have everything. This is
- 0:10a very boutique style practice, full service and a beautiful building, very wooded
- 0:16area. I know that that was a big for you. Tell us all
- 0:18about Lyle plastic surgery and aesthetics and what we can expect when we visit.
- 0:22Yeah, you know, well, of course, full service surgical procedures.
- 0:28I'm you know, obviously do plastic surgery and cosmetic surgery. I don't do
- 0:31insurance anymore. But and it's you know, breast and body and face.
- 0:36You know, some things I don't do. But I you know, that's
- 0:40been the sort of the mainstay of my practice for my whole career. But
- 0:45I've really wanted to introduce other options, other things. You know, people
- 0:50say it's a med spa, we call it the Aesthetics Center, but realistically
- 0:54it's medical grade treatments and it's really Yes, there are some sort of MEDSPA
- 1:00type things. We do have facials and hydrofacials and some of the more pampering
- 1:06things. But honestly, we don't have a lot of the other services to
- 1:08some medspos you know, we're not doing. We don't do laser hair removal.
- 1:12We don't do you know, like brow waxing and things like that.
- 1:18Tinting, we don't. We don't do some of those things you'll see in
- 1:21a you know, so when you say we're full service, there's some things
- 1:23we don't do. Purposely, we're a little bit smaller, a little bit
- 1:26more boutique, but it's more I'm looking at technology and how can technology help
- 1:34you look younger, look your age sometimes so, and there are some devices
- 1:40we don't have that I purposely don't have. You know, I do a
- 1:42lot of body contouring. There's all kinds of places to do cool sculpting.
- 1:47I think cool sculpting is fine. But honestly, if you're coming to me,
- 1:52you're mostly gonna want or need liposuction. And if you don't, then
- 1:56I can refer you to good people no liposuction real quick? Do you have
- 2:00different types of liposuction that you offer? Ye? And what are they?
- 2:04Yeah? So I have, Well, I have one device it's called the
- 2:07Vaser. It's ultrasonic assisted liposuction. It's a little better for certain parts of
- 2:12the body that are have like tough, fibrous fatty tissue, male breasts,
- 2:16that kind of thing. It's good for revisional work. It's actually good for
- 2:22people who have had cool sculpting that have problems and have tethered areas. It
- 2:24breaks through that some of that that sometimes cool sculpting doesn't have a good result.
- 2:30And you know, so I have that, and I have what they
- 2:32call power assisted liposuction, which is uh it's when you do LiPo section.
- 2:37It's just you, you know, sucking the fat out, but it's a
- 2:40power system just helps me and it makes it a little bit more even.
- 2:44I think there are other types of liposuction that I don't have. Laser,
- 2:49which is more of a higher energy heating of the tissue is supposed to shrink
- 2:53skin. And then I have some adjuncts that go along with that, and
- 2:57you know, liposuction, I do most of my lip aside with people asleep,
- 3:00they're having something else, or they're having just a lot of LP assuction.
- 3:05You can also do small amounts of light astructions. Some people come in
- 3:07and say, you know, I just have these small areas, and I
- 3:10can do that under a local anesthesia, maybe with a light sedative. And
- 3:15some doctors do a lot of lip assuction with people fully awake, and that's
- 3:17fine. I just prefer to do it when you're asleep because I'm usually doing
- 3:23something else too. Okay, So you do the liposuction and those different types,
- 3:25and then you have other devices that people in this area do not have,
- 3:30like Niogen, Well, neogen is one. Neogen is is. You
- 3:35know a lot of people when they want to what they call resurface your skin,
- 3:38you know, they want to blow torch off. It's a term I
- 3:43use. It's not really blowtorch, blow torching off the top layer of skin
- 3:46and letting the new one come in. And it's more rejuvenative. So like
- 3:49a CO two laser and some of the other lasers I used to have that.
- 3:53I still think it's a great device, but I've traded mine out for
- 3:57a plasma. It's not a layers plasma device, so it but it creates
- 4:02energy that does very similar but it's it's not like you leave and your face
- 4:08is immediately peeling. It's almost like a delayed effect in it more like it
- 4:13forms like a leathery surface, and studies have shown and results from other providers
- 4:19have shown just a it's almost like a gentler way of doing it in a
- 4:23way, and I think it just has a more rejuvenating effect in the long
- 4:28term at least that's what the advantages of this. And it hurts about the
- 4:31same. You still have to be numbed up. But I've had it done
- 4:34my as an experiment before I even bought the device, I had it done
- 4:39on my around my eyes, just to see what it was like on a
- 4:41lower setting, and it wasn't bad at all. Is that a good maintenance
- 4:45device? Like so say you had co two years ago or Fraxil years ago,
- 4:48because you typically have to do it every couple of years, right,
- 4:53just keep it maintained. And we do think that the thing of the neogen.
- 4:58This is true of almost any device. So you can adjust the settings,
- 5:01and you can do that with other devices as well. But when you
- 5:04adjust the device, you can do what they call low energy. Low energy
- 5:08is going to be it's going to have a nice effect, but it's more
- 5:12cumulative. So if you're going to have a low energy treatment, you're going
- 5:15to recover a little quicker. A couple of days, but you're gonna have
- 5:18to have it like three times maybe that year where there's high energy or what
- 5:24we call high low energy, where it may be a little bit stronger,
- 5:28and it may be a one time thing that you do. When you say
- 5:30one time, it's not like, hey, that lasts five years. It's
- 5:33going to last a year, two years, but it's going to have a
- 5:36major improvement in your skin, not only some textural things pigmentation, but also
- 5:43what we've seen is a real almost a tightening of the skin. And I
- 5:46think it's great for people who have had previous procedures and they say, oh,
- 5:51you know, I had to see it too, and that was awful,
- 5:53and this one's a little bit better experience. In my opinion. It's
- 5:58like little puffs of hot air you as opposed to getting zapped. You still
- 6:02have to be numbed for it, and you still have to We sometimes offer
- 6:08an oral sedative if you want, but a lot of people don't. People
- 6:11just you know, they don't have they don't have the time to have someone
- 6:15come in and bring them that kind of thing, and they just want to
- 6:17be able to leave. And you leave there and you're a little red you're
- 6:19not like, you know, like peeling all over the place. So that's
- 6:24one device. I also have what they call soft wave, which is a
- 6:28high intense energy ultrasound which helps to shrink some of the deeper tissues. So
- 6:33it's not so much for the skin, the top layer of skin. It's
- 6:36more for the deeper tissues. So it's going to be something that's going to
- 6:40tighten. It's going to tighten like your face a little bit and your neck.
- 6:45Now some of these devices overlap, like Neogen does that too to an
- 6:47extent, but this is like getting a little deeper. It's good for like
- 6:51necks. Actually just got FDA approval for things like your arms, Like,
- 6:57yeah, going to ask your arms what it's dangling? No matter how much
- 6:59weight you lose, right, that's a problem. Yeah, So soft wave
- 7:02is one of those devices that just recently got approval. People were using it
- 7:08for that reason. But if it's going to shrink and tightened skin, and
- 7:12why not do it on an arm or around a knee or something like that.
- 7:15Even some people think that it. I haven't used a lot for this,
- 7:17but for cellulite. Okay, Now, how many treatments are typically required?
- 7:21If you were to do the arms, the fat under the arms.
- 7:25I would say that, you know, my hope is that you do it
- 7:28one treatment. I usually you don't see the results right away, So you
- 7:32don't want to have someone come in and do it and then come back again,
- 7:35like in a month and do it again. You want to kind of
- 7:38give it a good three months and see how it's done. You know,
- 7:41ideally it's a one and done, but sometimes a second treatment is necessary and
- 7:46that. But that's also part of the aging process. You know. It's
- 7:48not like it changes the collagen structure and your body doesn't continue to age.
- 7:55It does does this last forever? Or it's like when you say it last,
- 7:59it's good for a year, a year to two, I would say,
- 8:03And again that's just being honest. I think a lot of times,
- 8:07I'm sure the company wants you to say, hey, do this maybe every
- 8:11five years. But even facelifts and stuff. You know, you do a
- 8:13facelift, people say, how long does a facelift lasts? Well, I
- 8:16mean you're going to continue to age. You may want to have a little
- 8:20tuck in a couple of years, little minor duck or something. So I
- 8:24think it's I think these things are like, you get one treatment, you
- 8:28may need some maintenance treatments, maybe a lower energy or something. And then
- 8:33we also have a device called cyton BBL, which is not the kind of
- 8:37BBL a lot of people think about. It's broadband light, but it helps
- 8:41more like pigmentation changes. It brings out and corrects colors, you know,
- 8:46change red. It can get out some vascular things like little blushes on your
- 8:50face. That's also something you probably need to have a few treatments set apart.
- 8:54But it doesn't really hurt that much, you know. And unfortunately,
- 8:58almost anything that's going to be good for your appearance or skin is going to
- 9:03hurt to some degree. It's going to be That's that's how it goes,
- 9:07right, but you know, and but you know, things like a facial
- 9:11hydrofacial is good for your skin. You look great after it. That doesn't
- 9:16hurt at all. That's more relaxing. And so I'm not talking about every
- 9:20single thing, but pretty much anything that's going to really rejuvenate your face is
- 9:24going to come with some discomfort. And my hope is that my goal is
- 9:28to do it with as little discomfort as possible, especially these devices that you
- 9:33have to do again. So it's like you may come in for one treatment
- 9:35and then you're like, I'm never doing that again because that hurt too much.
- 9:39And so it's how we do it. It's it's how we numb you.
- 9:43It's also providing you with some pain medicine and you know, not necessarily
- 9:48a narcotic, but things just to make your experience a good experience. And
- 9:52you know, my my location is I think a very peaceful location. It's
- 9:58you know, it's over West raw off a blue Ridge and it's very light,
- 10:03airy rooms. I think people feel relaxed when they go in there.
- 10:05It's not like a in my opinion, it's not like you're going to a
- 10:09clinic where you're like in a closed off room. I mean, all the
- 10:11rooms are wide open, you can. I think it's it seems private because
- 10:16a lot of people are very you know, they're they want to be quiet
- 10:18about whatever procedures they're getting, right, and it feels very private. Yeah,
- 10:22it's private, but it's also you know, what I like about it
- 10:26is that people when you go in the room and even with the windows open,
- 10:30no one can see you. Right, we're on the second floor.
- 10:33You look at the trees and everything. It's just a lot of people describe
- 10:35it as just relaxing. So and as somebody that's well known in the area,
- 10:39a very experienced plastic surgeon, have you noticed the devices are getting better?
- 10:45I mean, obviously they're getting better, but the technology advances over the
- 10:48years because y'all stay well trained a low plastic surgery and aesthetics. Yeah,
- 10:52they do. I think sometimes I think of it as what's that term they
- 10:56use about like planned obsolescence. It's almost like they plan you know, there's
- 11:01always a new, better device. You know, you get a device,
- 11:05and this is one of the things you deal with as a as a SPA
- 11:09or asthetics owner, is that, you know, a company comes out with
- 11:13this device, Oh, this is the best thing. You buy it.
- 11:15They cost a lot of money. You know, you got to, you
- 11:18know, get a lot of patience to do it to even pay for it.
- 11:22And then and then a couple of years later, they're like, oh,
- 11:24We've got this new, improved one, and it's like, what happened
- 11:26to that good technology? Right? Some of the technologies I have are new,
- 11:31but some of them are old and tried and true. And when I
- 11:33say old, I shouldn't say old but like right, like Cyton BBL,
- 11:39it's been a winner and you know a lot of awards from you know these
- 11:45new beauty magazine and things like that. Soft Wave is relatively new, but
- 11:48the technology has been around. Some of these are even like Neogen. That
- 11:54technology was called something else a while back and it was sort of made better
- 11:58and it's a amazing Some of the engineers, and a lot of them are
- 12:01in foreign you know, our country, but foreign countries, Korea and different
- 12:05countries where they they really biomechanical engine or biomedical engineers will will create this technology.
- 12:13It's way above my abilities. I was never like that great in physics.
- 12:18But it's like these guys really know skin, they know these devices.
- 12:26But of course they're like, okay, well how do we get it better?
- 12:30And then that's a frustrating thing. You know, you can't have technology
- 12:33necessarily that's ten years old, but the same token you can't buy in brand
- 12:37new devices does the same thing every year too. What is the best way
- 12:41to get in to have your skin, your body, have yourself evaluated to
- 12:45see what it is you can do for yourself. Well, I, you
- 12:48know, I we recommend appointments with my my asthetic providers who are either are
- 12:54in or a physician assistant. We do have esthetician, but that's going to
- 13:01be more more for like facials and things, and you know that kind of thing.
