- 0:00Transforming human nature does not happen overnight.
- 0:05There are thus periods when the spiritual force is actively
- 0:08experienced and descending into the being, and then there are
- 0:13other periods where it needs to adjust the responses of the
- 0:17mind, the life energy and the physical body to both hold and
- 0:22accommodate the impact of the force and thereby create the
- 0:27needed changes. Fiora Bindo describes this
- 0:31process as one of assent and integration.
- 0:36Both are essential elements in the transformational process,
- 0:40and the seeker soon learns that he can only receive a certain
- 0:43amount of force at a time until the being is widened, the
- 0:48receptivity is enhanced, and the necessary changes are being made
- 0:52to use that force. If the seeker pulls the force,
- 0:57it can be spilled if the being is not prepared to hold it, and
- 1:01this can lead to various forms of imbalance, disruption, or
- 1:06disturbances. Eventually, the seeker also
- 1:09recognizes that the yoga is not fixated on accumulating
- 1:13experiences, but on the actual work of change needed to
- 1:18manifest the next stage of the evolution of consciousness.
- 1:22A work that involves addressing virtually every part of the
- 1:25being, every response, every reaction, every habit, every
- 1:31instinct, every trained action to open the being to a new way
- 1:37of seeing, acting and responding.
- 1:41Thus the need for perspective, receptivity, continual faith and
- 1:47patience with the process. Srioro Bindo writes quote.
- 1:53The length of your period of dullness is also no sufficient
- 1:57reason for losing belief in your capacity or your spiritual
- 2:01destiny. I believe that alternations of
- 2:04bright and dark periods are almost a universal experience of
- 2:08yogis, and the exceptions are very rare.
- 2:12If one inquires into the reason of this phenomenon, very
- 2:16unpleasant to our impatient human nature, it will be found,
- 2:20I think, that they are in the main too.
- 2:24The first is that the human consciousness either cannot bear
- 2:28a constant descent of the light or power or ananda, or cannot at
- 2:33once receive and absorb it. It needs periods of
- 2:37assimilation. But this assimilation goes on
- 2:40behind the veil of the surface consciousness.
- 2:43The experience or the realization that has descended
- 2:47retires behind the veil and leaves this outer or surface
- 2:52consciousness to lie fallow and become ready for a new descent.
- 2:57In the more developed stages of the yoga, these dark or dull
- 3:01periods become shorter, less trying, as well as uplifted by
- 3:05the sense of the greater consciousness, which, though not
- 3:09acting for immediate progress, yet remains and sustains the
- 3:13outer nature. The second cause is some
- 3:17resistance, something in the human nature that is not felt.
- 3:21The former descent is not ready, is perhaps unwilling to change.
- 3:27Often it is some strong habitual formation of the mind or the
- 3:31vital, or some temporary inertia of the physical consciousness,
- 3:36and not exactly a part of the nature.
- 3:39And this, whether showing or concealing itself, thrusts up
- 3:44the obstacle. If one can detect the cause in
- 3:47oneself, acknowledge it, see its workings, and call down the
- 3:52power for its removal, then the period of obscurity can be
- 3:56greatly shortened, and their acuity becomes less.
- 4:01But in any case the divine power is working always behind, and
- 4:06one day, perhaps, when one least expects it, the obstacle breaks,
- 4:12the clouds vanish, and there is again the light and the
- 4:15sunshine. The best thing in these cases
- 4:19is, if one can manage it, not to fret, not to despond, but to
- 4:24insist quietly and keep oneself open, spread to the light, and
- 4:30waiting in faith for it to come. That, I have found, shortens the
- 4:35ordeals. Afterwards, when the obstacle
- 4:39disappears, one finds that a great progress has been made,
- 4:43and that the consciousness is far more capable of receiving
- 4:47and retaining than before. There is a return for all the
- 4:53trials and ordeals of the spiritual life.
