Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. And we're back. And we're back. This
- 0:05Speaker 1: is so exciting. Welcome to the very first video podcast
- 0:10Speaker 1: version of Fake Doctors, Real Friends, now on Hulu. Oh
- 0:16Speaker 1: my goodness. And I heart, there's so much to say.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I feel like a racehorse who's in the gate. That's
- 0:24Speaker 1: what they're in. Sure. And I feel like bursting out.
- 0:27Speaker 1: And we'd like to welcome our very first guest. Sarah Chalk. Hello,
- 0:31Speaker 1: Sarah Chalk.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I'm so honored to be your very first guest in
- 0:36Speaker 2: this fancy studio. The studio is amazing.
- 0:38Speaker 1: We have to give a large shout out to Roger Fires,
- 0:41Speaker 1: who's our production designer at Scrubs, and him and his
- 0:44Speaker 1: team threw this together. And our friends Rob and Todd
- 0:48Speaker 1: lit it and made it pretty. And Don and I,
- 0:52Speaker 1: as you know, if you've been a fan of the podcast,
- 0:53Speaker 1: also Penny's here, so you may see Penny, my dog,
- 0:55Speaker 1: coming in and out. Donald and I, as you know,
- 0:59Speaker 1: if you've watched the show before, have always done this
- 1:02Speaker 1: just over Zoom. And it's always been our daydream to
- 1:05Speaker 1: do it in the same room and film it and
- 1:07Speaker 1: make it look good. And we manifested, Donald.
- 1:11Speaker 3: Well, we manifested it to a certain point. Someone is
- 1:14Speaker 3: still on Zoom.
- 1:16Speaker 4: Yes.
- 1:16Speaker 1: We couldn't get her up in Vancouver. Live from L.A.,
- 1:19Speaker 1: Joelle Monique. Hi, guys. Hi, Joelle. Look at me there. Joelle,
- 1:24Speaker 1: we're so glad you're able to join us from the
- 1:26Speaker 1: iHeart stages in Los Angeles. You guys, if you're just
- 1:31Speaker 1: joining us and you haven't watched or listened to the
- 1:34Speaker 1: podcast before, we did every single episode of Scrubs. We
- 1:38Speaker 1: did a watch back podcast. Of the original, of the
- 1:42Speaker 1: OG Scrubs. Of the OG Scrubs. Donald and I started...
- 1:46Speaker 1: with Joelle on March. It was the day lockdown began
- 1:50Speaker 1: of 2020, right? And we did every single episode of Scrubs,
- 1:55Speaker 1: and we had so much fun. And now that we're
- 1:59Speaker 1: doing this new revival, we thought, wouldn't it be fun,
- 2:02Speaker 1: because the show's on Hulu, to do sort of a
- 2:04Speaker 1: video version? Obviously, the audio version will still go out
- 2:08Speaker 1: through iHeart, wherever you get your podcasts. But now you
- 2:11Speaker 1: can watch us and Penny on Hulu.
- 2:15Speaker 3: Yes, and also Nixon 5.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Okay, Donald didn't waste too much time to get a
- 2:21Speaker 1: Nixon 5 out there. It's awesome.
- 2:24Speaker 3: We're on iHeart, and we're on Hulu, and you probably
- 2:27Speaker 3: just are tuning in after the first episode of Scrubs
- 2:30Speaker 3: is aired, and the second episode of Scrubs is aired,
- 2:32Speaker 3: and you're trying to find out what's going on. I'm
- 2:34Speaker 3: here to tell you, Nixon 5.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Okay, Nixon 5 right off the bat. If you look
- 2:38Speaker 1: around the set, which I guess you'll only see from
- 2:42Speaker 1: that camera, but There's lots of Scrubs memorabilia. There's a
- 2:47Speaker 1: brown bear. There's a vanilla bear. There's Star Wars stuff,
- 2:51Speaker 1: so Donald feels comfortable.
- 2:52Speaker 3: Thank you.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Rowdy is behind me. This is, you know, it's a
- 2:56Speaker 1: bit of a Timu Rowdy. The original Rowdy was falling apart,
- 3:00Speaker 1: so he has to stay in a... In a vault,
- 3:03Speaker 1: like the Raiders of the Lost vault.
- 3:07Speaker 3: Should we get to how this all happened?
- 3:10Speaker 1: Yeah, go on. Do your thing. Guys.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Go ahead.
- 3:13Speaker 1: We're back because of you. Yes, the fans. Holy cow.
- 3:17Speaker 1: Thunderous applause. We can't say thunderous applause Daniel anymore because
- 3:20Speaker 1: Daniel's unable to join us. He still works for iHeart, but.
- 3:23Speaker 3: He's... Don't you have it in your thing?
- 3:25Speaker 1: What?
- 3:26Speaker 3: Don't you have it in your little soundboard?
- 3:27Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 3:27Speaker 1: I do have my soundboard. I don't know if... I
- 3:29Speaker 1: got to get this up to date because I don't
- 3:30Speaker 1: know if I have the thunderous applause. I have this.
- 3:32Speaker 1: What you trying to get into a dash room? What
- 3:35Speaker 1: you trying to do? I don't have every sound effect.
- 3:39Speaker 1: But anyway, for those of you just joining us, and
- 3:41Speaker 1: you haven't before, we used to have an editor called Danil.
- 3:45Speaker 1: His name was Danil. And Donald would often say lots
- 3:48Speaker 1: of inappropriate things we had to cut. So we would
- 3:50Speaker 1: always say, cut that Danil, cut that Danil, cut that Danil.
- 3:53Speaker 1: And now I guess we're going to say, cut that Joelle. Yeah,
- 3:56Speaker 1: no more cut that Danil. If you accidentally say dumb shit.
- 4:00Speaker 1: I think we're allowed to curse. We'll keep it holy.
- 4:06Speaker 3: By the way, look at Penny.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Penny is very confused, as you might expect by Rowdy.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Are you confused, baby? I know, it doesn't make any sense.
- 4:19Speaker 1: But yeah, back to what Donald was saying. We are here,
- 4:22Speaker 1: you guys, solely because of the fans and their love
- 4:25Speaker 1: of the show. And we're just so grateful. We're having
- 4:29Speaker 1: so much fun. This is the best job ever. And
- 4:32Speaker 1: then you guys watched the first season of this revival
- 4:36Speaker 1: more than we ever could have daydreamed. So now we're
- 4:40Speaker 1: lucky enough, we're blessed enough to be cracking each other
- 4:43Speaker 1: up and having fun making season two. Sarah, your thoughts.
- 4:48Speaker 1: You're allowed to talk now. Am I allowed to talk?
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah, go. You guys are having your intro.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I know, but you're allowed to talk. You're welcome. Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 5:01Speaker 2: You guys, thank you so much, everybody, for tuning in
- 5:05Speaker 2: and let us do this again. I mean, it was
- 5:08Speaker 2: an incredible job. We knew it for the first eight years.
- 5:10Speaker 2: But I don't think we knew it, knew it. Like,
- 5:12Speaker 2: we knew it, but now we know it, know it.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Because everybody's had lives and worked on other things. And
- 5:17Speaker 2: so to get to come back and do it now
- 5:20Speaker 2: when we're 50, 51, and 52.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Older. We're older.
- 5:25Speaker 3: We're just a little bit older.
- 5:26Speaker 2: A little bit older.
- 5:26Speaker 1: You know, it's so amazing when we cut back in
- 5:29Speaker 1: the show. I was thinking when I was cutting this,
- 5:32Speaker 1: and you'll see it in the next episode when we
- 5:35Speaker 1: talk about 202, but I said to my editor when
- 5:39Speaker 1: we did it, I go, what other show can cut
- 5:42Speaker 1: to a flashback of the actors 25 years ago?
- 5:46Speaker 2: And have real footage, actual footage.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Of the characters. It's so cool.
- 5:50Speaker 3: It's like we did, what was that, About a Boy?
- 5:55Speaker 3: It was like, man, I remember that moment.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Yeah, where they made it over many years. But, you know,
- 6:00Speaker 1: not 25 years. I mean, that's pretty crazy to be
- 6:03Speaker 1: able to cut to a shot of us 25 years ago.
- 6:05Speaker 1: It's just a really special, special thing. So I think
- 6:10Speaker 1: we should dive in. You guys are here. You're tuning
- 6:12Speaker 1: in for the very first... video podcast and we're going
- 6:16Speaker 1: to be talking about the first episode of season two
- 6:19Speaker 1: of the revival. Donald, would you like to count us in?
- 6:29Speaker 5: About a bunch of docs and nurses in a Canada who.
- 6:33Speaker 4: Love to hate.
- 6:33Speaker 5: I said he's got stories that we all should know.
- 6:38Speaker 5: So gather round to hear our, gather round to hear
- 6:43Speaker 5: our Scrubs Rewatch Show with Zach and Donald.
- 6:49Speaker 1: All right. Here we go. I have my notes. Sarah,
- 6:52Speaker 1: you were making your notes. Donald, you've got very thorough notes.
- 6:55Speaker 3: I've got a lot of notes. I know.
- 6:56Speaker 2: While we're pulling out our notes. One thing that's just
- 6:59Speaker 2: sort of in general been so fun is like even
- 7:02Speaker 2: this season coming back to a show is so fun.
- 7:05Speaker 2: And like, we just got back for season two and
- 7:07Speaker 2: like we were talking about the other night, the crew
- 7:10Speaker 2: is so fun. I love every single one of the
- 7:12Speaker 2: crew members. It was so fun to, to see everyone
- 7:14Speaker 2: and get to do it again. So it's like this
- 7:17Speaker 2: experience of doing it again the first time. And then
- 7:18Speaker 2: now we have, we get to do that again.
- 7:21Speaker 1: It really is the nicest group of people. And, um,
- 7:25Speaker 1: you know, for those of you who don't know, I'm
- 7:26Speaker 1: sure a lot of you fans know, but for those
- 7:28Speaker 1: of you who don't know, we used to shoot Scrubs
- 7:30Speaker 1: in an abandoned hospital for real, and that hospital got
- 7:34Speaker 1: knocked down so many years ago. So in bringing this
- 7:37Speaker 1: show back to life, we had to build an enormous
- 7:41Speaker 1: recreation of the hospital on stage, and we're up here
- 7:45Speaker 1: in Vancouver, where Sarah is from and loves, and she's
- 7:51Speaker 1: taught donald and me that it's actually very glorious here
- 7:55Speaker 1: when the weather's nice.
- 7:56Speaker 3: It is so many things as a as a cast
- 7:59Speaker 3: this year yeah a lot of cast bonding yeah you
- 8:02Speaker 3: know bill lawrence was very very very uh what's the
- 8:08Speaker 3: word i'm looking pro cast bonding yes and we've taken
- 8:12Speaker 3: that to our level. I don't think we can ever
- 8:16Speaker 3: do it quite as good as Bill did. Like, Bill
- 8:18Speaker 3: would take us to Vegas and stuff like that.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Well, we're going to take our cast to Vegas eventually.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Just you wait.
- 8:22Speaker 3: I'm excited for that.
- 8:23Speaker 1: We were talking the other day at dinner about Rap Vegas.
- 8:26Speaker 1: Rap Vegas? Yeah. Rap Vegas sounds like the best time ever. Well,
- 8:30Speaker 1: it's funny because we were talking about what should we
- 8:31Speaker 1: do at Rap and Sarah has this little island cabin
- 8:34Speaker 1: and she was like, we should all go to my
- 8:36Speaker 1: island cabin. And there was like a long silence and
- 8:38Speaker 1: I was like, Or we could go to Vegas, and
- 8:39Speaker 1: everyone's like, Vegas!
- 8:40Speaker 3: That sounds amazing.
- 8:42Speaker 1: We're going to do both.
- 8:43Speaker 2: I think the decision was that we were going to
- 8:45Speaker 2: do both. I think that's what.
- 8:46Speaker 3: The takeaway was. I'm not going to your island cabin.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Yeah, we're not going to your little island cabin, Sarah.
- 8:50Speaker 3: Everything bad happens at that island cabin. It's like Camp
- 8:52Speaker 3: Crystal Lake. That's all that's missing. That is all that's
- 8:57Speaker 3: missing is somebody coming out of the lake with a
- 8:59Speaker 3: hockey mask on to chop everybody up.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I'm sure it's very sweet and adorable. It sounds scary
- 9:05Speaker 1: as hell. Well, I was watching Sterling Point, which is amazing. Joelle,
- 9:09Speaker 1: have you watched Sterling Point? I haven't checked it out. Oh,
- 9:11Speaker 1: it's very good. I mean, I really like it.
- 9:13Speaker 3: What is Sterling Point?
- 9:15Speaker 1: It's kind of like a YA romance show, but it's
- 9:18Speaker 1: so well done. It's Josh Schwartz, your buddy. He did
- 9:20Speaker 1: a great job. Anyway, it takes place on this very
- 9:23Speaker 1: fancy Canadian lake called Lake Muskoka. And I said to Sarah,
- 9:27Speaker 1: is your cabin like the houses on Lake Muskoka where
- 9:30Speaker 1: these amazing houses with docks and boats? And she's like,
- 9:33Speaker 1: It's not quite Lake Muskoka. It's not quite Lake Muskoka.
- 9:37Speaker 2: So I'm okay if we start with Vegas.
- 9:39Speaker 3: But yeah, we have.
- 9:40Speaker 2: We've done so many fun things. We've done tons of
- 9:41Speaker 2: Saturday night dinners.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 9:44Speaker 1: We do a Saturday night dinner almost every night where
- 9:46Speaker 1: we do cast bonding.
- 9:47Speaker 2: We've been on a boat all together.
- 9:49Speaker 1: And gone swimming. We got a boat and we all- Twice.
- 9:51Speaker 4: Twice.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Two times we went on a boat and all went
- 9:53Speaker 1: swimming in the water up here and that was really fun.
- 9:56Speaker 3: That was not really fun. The water's cold.
- 9:58Speaker 1: You know you know it's cold Well, you don't like
- 10:01Speaker 1: the water.
- 10:02Speaker 3: I love the water. I just don't like, okay, look,
- 10:04Speaker 3: I don't like the ocean.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Be honest. I'm scared of the ocean.
- 10:07Speaker 3: If it's a pool, let's go.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Donald dipped his toe in the water, Joel, and then
- 10:12Speaker 1: he was like, nope. All I can think about is
- 10:14Speaker 1: just sharks.
- 10:15Speaker 3: And also, I asked Sarah, I was like, Sarah, is
- 10:17Speaker 3: it cold? And she was like, it's Canadian cold. Which
- 10:21Speaker 3: means it's cold as fuck.
- 10:22Speaker 1: But then I had like a wetsuit top on.
- 10:23Speaker 2: You know when the Canadian's wearing a wetsuit top?
- 10:27Speaker 3: Yeah, right.
- 10:27Speaker 1: You had a wetsuit top on like, it's Canadian. You, Amanda,
- 10:30Speaker 1: and Michael James Scott.
- 10:32Speaker 3: All the black people were like, I'm not getting in
- 10:33Speaker 3: that water.
- 10:34Speaker 1: By the way. By the way, it was funny because
- 10:37Speaker 1: they were all laughing about that, and then Michael James Scott, Donald,
- 10:41Speaker 1: and Amanda just hung on the boat. Yeah, I wasn't
- 10:43Speaker 1: doing it.
- 10:45Speaker 3: But then the second time we went jet skiing, and
- 10:47Speaker 3: that was amazing.
- 10:48Speaker 1: That was amazing. So much fun.
- 10:49Speaker 2: We went to movies. We did cast movie bonding.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Yeah, it took everybody to see Spider-Man, and that was great. Oh, yeah.
- 10:55Speaker 1: We do all sorts of fun bonding. We love the cast,
- 10:58Speaker 1: we have to say. And we have some great new
- 11:00Speaker 1: cast members that are so funny this year. Michael James Scott.
- 11:06Speaker 1: John Higgins John Higgins Ava well Ava was always in
- 11:11Speaker 1: the cast last year so was Michael last year though
- 11:13Speaker 1: oh I'm saying I guess they got bumped up to
- 11:15Speaker 1: bigger roles I guess but John Higgins is new and
- 11:18Speaker 1: we're loving him alright we should dive into the show
- 11:20Speaker 1: so 201 this was directed by a young filmmaker named
- 11:24Speaker 1: Zach Braff thunderous applause thunderous applause Joelle I don't have
- 11:28Speaker 1: that button all I have is this button Zach I.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Love you Zach I love you Zach I love you.
- 11:33Speaker 1: That's the only button I have For those of you
- 11:36Speaker 1: who don't know, that's Donald's wife saying she loves me.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Zach, I love you.
- 11:40Speaker 1: Zach, I love you. Oh, I have the old Daniel
- 11:42Speaker 1: saying this was his catchphrase before he left us. You
- 11:45Speaker 1: honor me. You honor me. You honor me. All right.
- 11:48Speaker 1: So this is J.D. wakes up next to Charlie, his
- 11:54Speaker 1: new girlfriend. He hasn't had intercourse with a woman in
- 11:58Speaker 1: some time. And I made all this up. I didn't
- 12:02Speaker 1: think it would make it about that my dad was
- 12:04Speaker 1: a loud lover as well.
- 12:07Speaker 3: I love that your dad passed that down. That's such
- 12:12Speaker 3: a great joke because dad's passed down so many things.
- 12:15Speaker 3: that are negative when it comes to the kids. Like,
- 12:18Speaker 3: you yelled at me, my dad yelled at me, so
- 12:20Speaker 3: I'm yelling at you. Or my dad beat me, so
- 12:22Speaker 3: I'm beating you. But with JD's dad, his dad was
- 12:26Speaker 3: a loud lover.
- 12:27Speaker 1: Yes, but why does JD know that?
- 12:32Speaker 2: My favorite line in that scene, one of the best
- 12:33Speaker 2: lines in the episode is, Maybe next time our foreplay
- 12:36Speaker 2: could include some light stretching.
- 12:38Speaker 1: And then it does. By the time you get to
- 12:42Speaker 1: the tag, they're actually doing some light stretching.
- 12:45Speaker 3: But I love the fact that, okay, we're going to
- 12:48Speaker 3: definitely dive into it, but this cold open, it's just
- 12:51Speaker 3: chock full of laughs. It's like, we're going to welcome
- 12:54Speaker 3: you back, and we welcome you back with laugh after
- 12:56Speaker 3: laugh after laugh after laugh after laugh after laugh after laugh.
- 12:59Speaker 3: And to me, that's the best way to come back
- 13:02Speaker 3: to a show. Especially one that you... you know, you know,
- 13:07Speaker 3: we're going to hit you with some dramatic stuff and
- 13:09Speaker 3: we're going to hit you with all of that. So
- 13:11Speaker 3: it's great to have that that opening of just nonstop laughter.
- 13:16Speaker 1: It's one of the things I really love about Scrubs
- 13:18Speaker 1: is I watch so much half hour comedy TV. I
- 13:21Speaker 1: love half hour comedy TV, but I'm really proud of
- 13:24Speaker 1: how many jokes per minute Scrubs has. And it's even
- 13:28Speaker 1: more this season. Like When I watch it, I mean, granted,
- 13:31Speaker 1: I'm biased. I think we're funny, but I'm watching and
- 13:33Speaker 1: you're laughing so much. And it's like they come rapid
- 13:38Speaker 1: fire at you, particularly in that cold open.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Yeah. You have to watch. I mean, I've watched it.
- 13:43Speaker 3: We watched it three times. I think I watched it
- 13:45Speaker 3: maybe four, both episodes. And every time you find something new.
- 13:49Speaker 2: What's crazy is 21 minutes and 30 seconds. Like, when
- 13:52Speaker 2: I watched it before we did the podcast today, like,
- 13:56Speaker 2: you finish watching it, you're like, wait, that's all of that?
- 13:58Speaker 2: Because you remember shooting all of it? You're like, all
- 14:00Speaker 2: of that in 21 minutes? It's crazy.
- 14:01Speaker 1: But we have to cut a lot out. I mean,
- 14:02Speaker 1: that's the problem. The assemblies can be between 25 and
- 14:06Speaker 1: 28 minutes. It's a lot to cut. And it's painful
- 14:09Speaker 1: to cut out all the stuff. You know, my daydream
- 14:12Speaker 1: was for Hulu. I brought this up in a meeting
- 14:14Speaker 1: once that Hulu should air some, should have a thing
- 14:17Speaker 1: where you can have deleted scenes. Or run a longer episode.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Or bloopers. Longer episode is so much work because then
- 14:25Speaker 1: we'd have to finish two full shows. But, you know,
- 14:28Speaker 1: how they have on Hulu, like, extras. They could have, like,
- 14:31Speaker 1: deleted scenes or bloopers. I thought one day I hope
- 14:34Speaker 1: we find a way to make that happen.
- 14:36Speaker 2: We should because, like, I mean, for everybody listening, like,
- 14:39Speaker 2: for any scene, there's, like, you know, this season and last,
- 14:42Speaker 2: it's super rare on a comedy to get to have this,
- 14:44Speaker 2: but we have a group of writers on set with
- 14:46Speaker 2: us all the time who are pitching jokes in real time.
- 14:49Speaker 2: We're doing alts, and so... for any given blow to
- 14:52Speaker 2: a scene sometimes you're trying like five different things so
- 14:55Speaker 2: we should do that yeah.
- 14:56Speaker 3: That'd be fun I like this line kink shame you
- 15:00Speaker 3: know I caught that Later on, Charlie apologizes for it. Yeah.
- 15:04Speaker 3: I've never really heard that before. Yeah. Where somebody is
- 15:07Speaker 3: kink shaming.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Yeah. You can't make fun of people's kinks.
- 15:10Speaker 3: Got it. Right, Joelle?
- 15:11Speaker 1: Joelle, tell us about that. That's the rule.
- 15:13Speaker 3: That's the rule.
- 15:13Speaker 1: That's the rule. Use it.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Be comfortable with your kinks.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Yeah. And she's saying, hey, I don't mean to kink shame.
- 15:21Speaker 3: But you're loud.
- 15:22Speaker 1: But you're very loud. I'm going to go make you coffee.
- 15:27Speaker 1: I know how you like it.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Flat white.
- 15:30Speaker 1: By the way, I was not loving how my love
- 15:34Speaker 1: handles were shining. But then I rationalized it. I said,
- 15:38Speaker 1: you know what? JD doesn't have time to work out.
- 15:41Speaker 1: JD has love handles.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Sure, man.
- 15:44Speaker 1: You can comment on that. I'll allow it.
- 15:46Speaker 3: I have no comment.
- 15:47Speaker 1: What you should say is your body looks fierce like J.D. X.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Your body looks fierce like Brad Pitt in Fight Club.
- 15:53Speaker 1: Thank you. That's what I wanted to hear. My bad.
- 15:55Speaker 3: All right.
- 15:56Speaker 1: So J.D. runs out. He's excited to go tell Turk.
- 16:00Speaker 1: We see he's made a handmade sign that says Sasha
- 16:03Speaker 1: parking only. Donald said to me earlier, he goes, I
- 16:07Speaker 1: love that the building, the apartment building made him a spot.
- 16:09Speaker 1: I go, no, no, no. JD put up a handmade
- 16:12Speaker 1: sign for Sasha. JD claimed the spot for Sasha. The
- 16:18Speaker 1: building didn't give.
- 16:19Speaker 3: It to him.
- 16:20Speaker 1: That's a handmade sign.
- 16:22Speaker 2: And Tom Petty's running down a dream.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Running down a dream. And then that sequence is really
- 16:29Speaker 1: well shot. I got to shout out Michael Spiller, who
- 16:30Speaker 1: did some second unit stunt stuff for me because- we
- 16:33Speaker 1: shoot these episodes in five days. So some of that
- 16:37Speaker 1: stunt motorcycle stuff We shot separately, and then we had
- 16:40Speaker 1: to shoot me on the green screen on the scooter.
- 16:42Speaker 1: It was so funny because, I mean, it looks as
- 16:45Speaker 1: good as we could get it, but I like that
- 16:47Speaker 1: it kind of looks a little bad. Same here, same here.
- 16:49Speaker 3: I love it too.
- 16:50Speaker 1: I think if it looked perfect, it wouldn't be as funny.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I wouldn't laugh as hard.
- 16:54Speaker 3: I love the fact that it's funny.
- 16:57Speaker 1: They had me on the scooter on the green screen
- 16:59Speaker 1: stage just bouncing like this. And then the turn, the
- 17:02Speaker 1: shortcut turn through traffic.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Your facial expressions in all of those are amazing.
- 17:07Speaker 1: And the sparks. Did you see the sparks on the stairs?
- 17:10Speaker 1: He's really trashing Sasha to get there. Yeah, he is. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 17:13Speaker 1: Treat her like trash.
- 17:13Speaker 3: She falls over.
- 17:14Speaker 1: By the way, she falls over on the ramp. I mean,
- 17:16Speaker 1: he's so committed to getting to Turk that he's really
- 17:21Speaker 1: beating the fuck out of Sasha. Like down the stairs
- 17:24Speaker 1: because he found a shortcut. He's treating Sasha like a cab. Yeah.
- 17:28Speaker 1: Like she's a taxi cab. Yeah, he beat her up.
- 17:31Speaker 1: And then... You know what I also love about this cold?
- 17:35Speaker 1: It's so short. By the way, the cold opens are
- 17:37Speaker 1: supposed to be three minutes long. That's sort of the rule.
- 17:39Speaker 1: And this one's too short. But we asked for permission
- 17:44Speaker 1: to get away with it. But I love that as
- 17:46Speaker 1: quick as it is, it introduces the three of us
- 17:48Speaker 1: in a funny way. He drives past Elliot, who has
- 17:52Speaker 1: that funny line about the bus, and then right into Turk.
- 17:57Speaker 1: with the high five and the affirmation.
- 18:00Speaker 2: And the best line the next patient tested positive.
- 18:02Speaker 3: For tapping that ass. The fact that he was able
- 18:09Speaker 3: to get that onto the clipboard and everything. He pops
- 18:14Speaker 3: up and everything.
- 18:16Speaker 1: And why is JD still in his helmet? That's the
- 18:19Speaker 1: best part.
- 18:19Speaker 3: No time to take it off.
- 18:23Speaker 1: Yeah, that was hilarious. And we had all sorts of
- 18:25Speaker 1: funny endings to that. And in fact, in the script,
- 18:27Speaker 1: there was an ending. If you remember the table read,
- 18:29Speaker 1: we're actually come back to Rachel's character. And I'm like,
- 18:34Speaker 1: I got you coffee.
- 18:35Speaker 2: And she went to go tell her.
- 18:36Speaker 1: And I said something to her like, I have to admit,
- 18:40Speaker 1: I really just ran to high five my friend because
- 18:43Speaker 1: I haven't had sex in so long. And she goes, really?
- 18:45Speaker 1: So did I. And she pulls back the covers and
- 18:47Speaker 1: she's in like jeans and running shoes. Yeah. We didn't
- 18:53Speaker 1: even shoot it because we just knew we weren't going
- 18:55Speaker 1: to have time for it. We did shoot versions where
- 18:57Speaker 1: we were going to intercut Between J.D. 's mission on
- 18:59Speaker 1: the scooter, we were going to enter her and caught
- 19:01Speaker 1: her going, J.D.? J.D.
- 19:08Speaker 2: The sleepy rubbing somewhere around two.
- 19:10Speaker 3: Two, yeah.
- 19:11Speaker 1: That was really funny. Yeah, I love that. That's a
- 19:13Speaker 1: Bill line, actually, he threw in there. What is it?
- 19:17Speaker 1: Twice in a sleepy rub? Twice in a sleepy rub?
- 19:19Speaker 1: My man. Twice in a sleepy rub?
- 19:21Speaker 3: I miss sleepy rubs.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Sleepy rubs don't happen when you're married for a long time.
- 19:25Speaker 1: Oh, you don't get sleepy rubs when you're married?
- 19:27Speaker 3: If I touch my wife with a sleepy rub, she's like,
- 19:29Speaker 3: I'm sleeping.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Oh. Zach, I love you. Zach, I love you.
- 19:34Speaker 1: All right. Are you guys in the same bed these
- 19:37Speaker 1: days or separate bedrooms?
- 19:39Speaker 3: So we're building a guest room for me right now.
- 19:42Speaker 1: Building a special guest room.
- 19:43Speaker 2: What's your special guest room for?
- 19:45Speaker 1: Because Casey doesn't want to sleep next to him. No,
- 19:46Speaker 1: it's not that she doesn't. want to. So when you
- 19:48Speaker 1: want to hook up, just knock on the door?
- 19:49Speaker 3: Time out, time out.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Sorry, guys.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Let's not paint this picture that me and my wife
- 19:53Speaker 3: are not sleeping in the same bed and all that stuff.
- 19:55Speaker 1: It feels like you just said you're building yourself a bedroom.
- 19:57Speaker 3: But we are building a bedroom so that when I
- 20:00Speaker 3: am out in my little animation area and I come
- 20:04Speaker 3: back in, I don't wake her up from... The sleeping
- 20:11Speaker 3: that she is doing. Because it's very, her sleep is
- 20:15Speaker 3: very important to her. So that being said, you know.
- 20:19Speaker 1: I bet a lot of couples who have an extra
- 20:21Speaker 1: room probably do that after a certain amount of years, right?
- 20:23Speaker 1: They're like, you snore. Go to your room.
- 20:26Speaker 3: I hope so. Because if not, she and I are
- 20:29Speaker 3: way off on what.
- 20:30Speaker 1: We're supposed to be doing as a married couple.
- 20:32Speaker 3: All right.
- 20:33Speaker 1: Well, hey, the Brady's did that. Remember, they had separate beds.
- 20:36Speaker 1: But they were in the same room. Yeah, but they
- 20:38Speaker 1: both had twin beds. That was so funny. They slept
- 20:44Speaker 1: in the same room. How did that work out? Mike
- 20:46Speaker 1: scooch over? Well, they didn't have any kids together.
- 20:49Speaker 2: Right, they brought them into the marriage.
- 20:50Speaker 1: Right, so we don't even know if they ever had sex.
- 21:01Speaker 1: All right.
- 21:02Speaker 3: And we're off.
- 21:03Speaker 1: And we're off. Let's talk about, so Joey Fatone, the cameo,
- 21:09Speaker 1: we were able to get Joey because both Donald and
- 21:12Speaker 1: Michael James Scott are friends with Joey Fatone. I love you,
- 21:16Speaker 1: Joey Fatone.
- 21:17Speaker 3: So back in the day, I used to do a
- 21:18Speaker 3: lot of the charity events that NSYNC would do, Challenge
- 21:22Speaker 3: for the Children. For those of you who were ever
- 21:25Speaker 3: able to go and witness the Us playing basketball and
- 21:28Speaker 3: stuff like that, it was a lot of fun, and
- 21:30Speaker 3: they would bring some of their celebrity friends in.
- 21:32Speaker 1: I remember I wanted to.
- 21:33Speaker 3: Be a part of that weekend so bad because, you know,
- 21:37Speaker 3: I love basketball, as you can see, Knicks and Five.
- 21:42Speaker 3: But to go and hang out in really cool places
- 21:46Speaker 3: with this boy band was a lot of fun, you
- 21:49Speaker 3: know what I mean? Like, we went to Vegas one year,
- 21:51Speaker 3: and that was the craziest shit I've ever seen in
- 21:53Speaker 3: my life. I've never seen, you know... the nightlife of
- 21:58Speaker 3: Vegas and NSYNC is something to be seen. Like, they
- 22:01Speaker 3: go crazy for those five guys.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Maybe we'll invite them to our Vegas wrap party.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, you should. Joey was in the pot.
- 22:10Speaker 1: But then I reached out to Donald because I knew
- 22:11Speaker 1: he knew him, and I said, hey, we have this
- 22:12Speaker 1: funny idea. Do you think you'd do it? And you
- 22:15Speaker 1: actually said, reach out to Michael James Scott because Michael
- 22:19Speaker 1: knows him. I think they went to... Do theater school
- 22:21Speaker 1: together or something?
- 22:21Speaker 3: They're all from Florida. Michael's from Florida. Like Layla and
- 22:26Speaker 3: some of our writers. And, you know, they all went
- 22:29Speaker 3: to the same school. If not, they were all in
- 22:33Speaker 3: the same area at the same time. And so.
- 22:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:36Speaker 2: One of our writers, Michael, went to the same high school.
- 22:38Speaker 3: Yes. Layla went to the same school also.
- 22:41Speaker 1: There must be a performing arts school, I'm guessing.
- 22:43Speaker 3: I think so.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Maybe not.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Anyway. Okay.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Michael James Scott asked Joey, and Joey said absolutely. So
- 22:49Speaker 1: thank you, Joey, for doing the cameo joke. Sarah's character, Elliot,
- 22:54Speaker 1: is cutting a pixelated, sorry, a penis leaf. And we
- 22:58Speaker 1: went back and forth with ABC begging them, saying, guys,
- 23:04Speaker 1: it's a piece of construction paper. Can we please show
- 23:08Speaker 1: a penis-shaped piece of construction paper? And they were like,
- 23:12Speaker 1: absolutely not.
- 23:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And we were like, well, it's fun. And then, then
- 23:16Speaker 1: we were going to do it off camera. You're going
- 23:18Speaker 1: to be cutting and you would, you would hold it up.
- 23:20Speaker 1: And then we, on the final take, Sarah held up
- 23:23Speaker 1: the leaf, the penis cut leaf. And it was so funny.
- 23:25Speaker 1: We were all belly laughing and we go, okay, worst
- 23:28Speaker 1: case scenario. We'll just pixelate it. Cause we know we're,
- 23:30Speaker 1: we know we're allowed to pixelate stuff. So then. We
- 23:34Speaker 1: pixelate it and we turn it in and they're like,
- 23:36Speaker 1: that's not enough pixelation. They're like, we can make out
- 23:41Speaker 1: that behind the pixelation is a penis shaped piece of
- 23:46Speaker 1: construction paper.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Well, it was funny because on that day, I mean,
- 23:50Speaker 2: we were trying out many different penis-like shapes out of
- 23:54Speaker 2: the construction paper to make a penis leaf.
- 23:56Speaker 1: Did you have to cut those yourself? No, no. I did.
- 23:58Speaker 1: You cut the penises?
- 23:58Speaker 2: I cut the penis.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Oh, I thought they just gave you... I thought they
- 24:01Speaker 1: gave you pre-cut penises.
- 24:03Speaker 2: I didn't get a pre-cut penis.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Oh.
- 24:05Speaker 2: No, I was cutting.
- 24:07Speaker 1: You were in charge of... Maybe it's your fault that
- 24:09Speaker 1: you made it look too much like a penis. Well,
- 24:12Speaker 1: I mean... Couldn't you have been a little bit avant-garde
- 24:13Speaker 1: with your penises?
- 24:14Speaker 2: Well, props had given me a template. I guess I
- 24:17Speaker 2: could have gone off on that.
- 24:19Speaker 1: This job is so funny, Joelle, because when you're directing,
- 24:23Speaker 1: they were like... This is what I love about this show. Penny,
- 24:27Speaker 1: he's eating your wire.
- 24:27Speaker 3: He's eating my wire.
- 24:28Speaker 1: Oh, Penny.
- 24:29Speaker 2: Oh, Penny, no.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Sorry, we're all getting used to things. Penny's chewing on
- 24:33Speaker 1: Donald's headphone wire. Penny's getting used to Rowdy. This job
- 24:37Speaker 1: is so funny because when you're directing, the props will
- 24:40Speaker 1: come to you. And they're not even joking. They're serious like, hey,
- 24:43Speaker 1: do you have time to check out the penis leaves?
- 24:44Speaker 3: And they bring me an array of different body colors
- 24:50Speaker 3: of all the different penises, right?
- 24:52Speaker 1: Like all the different... skin types of the penis leaves.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Are you serious right now? Yes, I swear.
- 24:57Speaker 1: So it was like red penis leaf?
- 25:00Speaker 3: There was a.
- 25:00Speaker 1: Brown penis leaf and I was like, it shouldn't be
- 25:02Speaker 1: a brown penis leaf. It should be a peach colored
- 25:04Speaker 1: penis leaf.
- 25:05Speaker 3: It should be like penis leaf that's like half like,
- 25:08Speaker 3: you know how to change color.
- 25:10Speaker 2: I think it was yellow. I think it went with yellow.
- 25:12Speaker 1: But anyway, so then I showed it to Bill. What
- 25:14Speaker 1: is that?
- 25:15Speaker 3: What is that? What's yellow?
- 25:17Speaker 1: Yellow is the color. It had to be fall colors.
- 25:20Speaker 5: It had to be construction paper that they sent.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Donald, stop.
- 25:25Speaker 2: I definitely cut out some green penis leaves. Now we're talking.
- 25:29Speaker 1: They had to be fall colors, you guys.
- 25:30Speaker 2: We were cutting leaves.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Anyway, the other problem was that Bill is very against pixelation.
- 25:42Speaker 1: On ABC, you're allowed to beep things and you're allowed
- 25:45Speaker 1: to pixelate things. But Bill doesn't like that. So I
- 25:48Speaker 1: had to fight hard for this pixelated penis. And later on,
- 25:51Speaker 1: when we get to it, I also had the pixelated
- 25:54Speaker 1: penis hanging from the string, which I thought was so funny.
- 25:58Speaker 1: And Bill was like, no, I'll give you one pixelated penis,
- 26:01Speaker 1: not two.
- 26:03Speaker 3: Absolutely not.
- 26:03Speaker 1: If you see how pixelated it is now. By the way,
- 26:06Speaker 1: that would be a funny thing if on Hulu you
- 26:07Speaker 1: were allowed to see the raw penis.
- 26:09Speaker 2: I feel like on Hulu they would allow the construction paper.
- 26:13Speaker 1: No, they would. But then it's like we have to
- 26:15Speaker 1: post two different shows.
- 26:16Speaker 2: I think it's worth it for the penis leaf.
- 26:18Speaker 1: Oh, I wish there was a way to just give
- 26:20Speaker 1: the Hulu viewers raw penis leaf.
- 26:22Speaker 3: Oh, my gosh. We're giving it to them now.
- 26:24Speaker 1: All right.
- 26:25Speaker 2: In that scene, Amanda had so many funny alts.
- 26:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 26:30Speaker 2: When Tosh says, above the belt lesbianism, and Deshauna says,
- 26:34Speaker 2: if you only touch in blouse, get out of my house.
- 26:36Speaker 2: What were the other ones? It was one that was like,
- 26:38Speaker 2: doesn't count. You got to swing the bat to play
- 26:40Speaker 2: the game. I don't remember.
- 26:42Speaker 3: There were a lot of them.
- 26:43Speaker 1: She was really funny. But right now it's, if you
- 26:45Speaker 1: only touch in blouse, get out of my house.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 26:48Speaker 1: Yeah. What about the sweater weather girls? That was really funny.
- 26:53Speaker 1: They were so funny. You know, we pulled up that
- 26:55Speaker 1: meme of all the, you know, that classic meme of like, Joelle,
- 26:59Speaker 1: you know what I'm talking about, with all the women
- 27:02Speaker 1: and their fall.
- 27:03Speaker 4: Their pumpkin spice lattes and the fall leaves and the pumpkins.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Yes.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Vanessa Bayer at the end of that scene, like when
- 27:08Speaker 2: she said, remember snitches get gifts or certificates? Yes. she
- 27:11Speaker 2: did so many reads on that and the one that
- 27:13Speaker 2: they picked with her laugh at the end when she's like, that.
- 27:16Speaker 1: Smile, it's amazing. And then Dubois says, if it's P.F. Chang's,
- 27:21Speaker 1: I'm turning y'all in. I'm turning y'all in. Okay, what's next?
- 27:26Speaker 1: What happens next? So then we're in with Cox and J.D.
- 27:29Speaker 1: offers his kidney, his lung, or his testicle because that's
- 27:33Speaker 1: how much J.D. loves Cox.
- 27:35Speaker 2: If I've got an extra. Yeah. Your name's on it.
- 27:37Speaker 1: That made me laugh. And then, go ahead.
- 27:40Speaker 3: We should talk about Ava and her plot line, because
- 27:44Speaker 3: it definitely carries out into the second episode. Tasha's so
- 27:50Speaker 3: unsure of herself. Yeah. And she's been unsure of herself
- 27:53Speaker 3: since she's gotten there because she's the only one that's
- 27:55Speaker 3: killed an actual patient, which I didn't realize.
- 27:58Speaker 1: I thought... I don't think... Did she lose a patient
- 28:01Speaker 1: last year or did she almost lose a patient?
- 28:03Speaker 2: She.
- 28:04Speaker 3: I think she lost a patient.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Right.
- 28:06Speaker 1: Right. And she's the only one out of all of
- 28:09Speaker 1: the interns. Oh, no, she almost did. Remember with you,
- 28:12Speaker 1: it was last season when she put the wrong thing in.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Right, and the patient were like, it's going to be okay,
- 28:17Speaker 2: but it was close, and don't let it happen again.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Right, so she said it's almost. She didn't lose someone.
- 28:20Speaker 3: Okay, well.
- 28:21Speaker 1: And so she's, what's interesting about the character of Tosh is,
- 28:28Speaker 1: you know, as you'll see, she's really an exceptional young doctor.
- 28:33Speaker 1: But she's insecure because of all the interns, she was
- 28:36Speaker 1: the first one to almost lose somebody because of a mistake.
- 28:40Speaker 1: And so even though she's very gifted and Elliot is
- 28:42Speaker 1: going to take her under her wing this season, she
- 28:47Speaker 1: is insecure.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 28:48Speaker 2: So she's second guessing now.
- 28:50Speaker 3: Everything.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Every decision that she's making.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Everything. And that's a really dangerous thing for a doctor. Yeah.
- 28:56Speaker 1: All right. How about Mighty Morphin Power Rangers? That was
- 28:58Speaker 1: a lot of fun.
- 28:59Speaker 2: That was so fun to do. It is the best
- 29:01Speaker 2: part of Scrubs. It's like all of our crew members,
- 29:05Speaker 2: all the departments are so fucking talented. And the amount
- 29:07Speaker 2: of time that went into that, which airs for however
- 29:10Speaker 2: many seconds it airs, like, I mean, for, you know,
- 29:13Speaker 2: like all that time beforehand, props coming up and, okay,
- 29:17Speaker 2: like Slade doing such an amazing job on the helmets
- 29:20Speaker 2: and Elisa Swanson with the costumes, like it was incredible.
- 29:23Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:24Speaker 1: Yes. Our prop master, Slade. Well done, Sarah.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Way to throw out them names. Well done.
- 29:30Speaker 1: 3D printed those helmets.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:34Speaker 1: And so that was all just so fun. We were
- 29:36Speaker 1: cracking up that day. Remember how hard we were laughing?
- 29:39Speaker 1: You were laughing so hard.
- 29:41Speaker 3: Just the fact that, you know, this is the only
- 29:44Speaker 3: show that I can think of that we get to do,
- 29:47Speaker 3: you know, we dress up as doctors, but this is
- 29:49Speaker 3: like the ultimate cosplay because we're always doing something different,
- 29:52Speaker 3: whether it be the Power Rangers or wrestling or, you
- 29:56Speaker 3: know what I mean? Like, we're always... it's almost like
- 30:00Speaker 3: a period piece in a lot of ways. I feel
- 30:03Speaker 3: for the, you know, costume department and the set department
- 30:08Speaker 3: and stuff like that because they're not, I mean, it's
- 30:10Speaker 3: probably fun too, but they're not just building a hospital set.
- 30:14Speaker 3: They have to be willing, they have to be open
- 30:16Speaker 3: and know how to create anything and everything because JD's
- 30:20Speaker 3: imagination is outrageous.
- 30:22Speaker 1: But that's what makes the job so fun, I think,
- 30:24Speaker 1: not only for us, but for them. I mean, The
- 30:27Speaker 1: crew loves working on this show. They say it all
- 30:30Speaker 1: the time because they're not just like building the same
- 30:33Speaker 1: boring thing. We'll be like, OK, this week they're going
- 30:35Speaker 1: to be Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. This week we're doing
- 30:38Speaker 1: this whole crazy fantasy. And it makes the job so
- 30:42Speaker 1: interesting and challenging in a fun way.
- 30:44Speaker 2: It's like it's the same as it is in that
- 30:46Speaker 2: way that it is for us. Like it's never boring.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Every week you're like, oh, now we get to try
- 30:50Speaker 2: it like this. And that's what the hair and makeup
- 30:52Speaker 2: department and I were talking about last week. you know,
- 30:55Speaker 2: Amber was cranking out however many wigs for the Halloween episode.
- 30:59Speaker 2: And she was, I mean, and she was like, this
- 31:00Speaker 2: is so fun. It's so creative. You don't get to
- 31:02Speaker 2: do this on any other job.
- 31:03Speaker 3: Yeah, you're stuck in like this certain, whatever the period is,
- 31:06Speaker 3: you're stuck in that. Yeah, that's, I love that. And
- 31:09Speaker 3: I think our crew is amazing for the fact that
- 31:13Speaker 3: they're able to bend and turn and adjust when we
- 31:16Speaker 3: throw curve balls and.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Stuff like that. And they love it too. I mean, Theo,
- 31:19Speaker 1: who's a member of our Onset Special Effects department, He
- 31:23Speaker 1: is so gung-ho. He is so excited when he's got
- 31:27Speaker 1: a gag that he's got to pull off. He's like
- 31:29Speaker 1: a kid in a candy store.
- 31:30Speaker 3: It hasn't happened yet, but the leaves and everything like
- 31:35Speaker 3: that oh.
- 31:35Speaker 1: My god we have a we have a we have
- 31:36Speaker 1: a without spoiling we have a gag coming up where
- 31:39Speaker 1: donald and i jump into a pile of leaves but
- 31:41Speaker 1: it's like kind of like an endless pile of leaves
- 31:44Speaker 1: and the amount of brain power of people going on
- 31:47Speaker 1: because i won't tell you what the fantasy is yet
- 31:49Speaker 1: but it's so silly and but it's and when people
- 31:51Speaker 1: see it they'll be like that you won't know how
- 31:54Speaker 1: he did it but it's so many minds figuring out
- 31:57Speaker 1: how to do it and um They give you another story.
- 32:00Speaker 1: We have this if you remember last season, we had
- 32:02Speaker 1: this little robot that rolls by like they have in
- 32:04Speaker 1: real hospitals. They deliver medicine to different places in the hospital.
- 32:08Speaker 1: And we wanted to just keep it going is like
- 32:10Speaker 1: a thing in the background. But it makes a lot
- 32:12Speaker 1: of noise because they built it on top of an
- 32:13Speaker 1: RC car sort of platform. And I said to Theo,
- 32:17Speaker 1: it's a shame we can't really ever just have that
- 32:19Speaker 1: thing going by because it makes so much noise. It
- 32:21Speaker 1: ruins the sound. And he just started rubbing his chin.
- 32:24Speaker 1: I'm like, all right, Theo, you want a challenge? I
- 32:26Speaker 1: task you with trying to figure out how to have
- 32:29Speaker 1: that thing go by quietly. And I swear to you,
- 32:31Speaker 1: whenever there's downtime and they're not like frantically working on
- 32:34Speaker 1: something for the episode, I see like four of them
- 32:37Speaker 1: huddled around that robot. And they're like, they're like soldering shit.
- 32:42Speaker 1: They're like, it's like a fucking lab. And they are,
- 32:46Speaker 1: and then he's, and then I see them like testing
- 32:49Speaker 1: weird wheels and little by little, they're going to have
- 32:51Speaker 1: a silent robot rolling by.
- 32:53Speaker 2: But everybody cares so much. Like nobody's phoning it in
- 32:57Speaker 2: with all those, all the departments they're trying so hard.
- 32:59Speaker 2: And like, one thing that's crazy about scrubs is like
- 33:03Speaker 2: some of these fantasy sequences are weeks, even a month
- 33:05Speaker 2: in the making. We had one last season where we
- 33:08Speaker 2: were dancing. We had this whole choreographed dance number. We
- 33:11Speaker 2: were at dance rehearsal. I was learning the dance. We
- 33:13Speaker 2: were there like three days before for hours. And yeah,
- 33:16Speaker 2: At the end of the day, in the cut, if
- 33:18Speaker 2: it doesn't work, it gets cut. And that whole fantasy
- 33:20Speaker 2: sequence gets cut. And the amount of people that were
- 33:22Speaker 2: involved just in that, from the choreographer to all the
- 33:26Speaker 2: backup dancers who were incredible. And that's what's so crazy
- 33:31Speaker 2: about Scrubs. It's like if it doesn't make the cut,
- 33:32Speaker 2: if it's not the funniest thing, it's not going to air.
- 33:34Speaker 1: That's the thing about Scrubs. You know, we jam so
- 33:36Speaker 1: much into five days when we shoot it. And it
- 33:39Speaker 1: doesn't matter— how long it took, if it isn't as
- 33:42Speaker 1: funny as other stuff in the show, it goes. Because
- 33:44Speaker 1: you have to cut it to 21 minutes and 30 seconds.
- 33:47Speaker 3: But it also makes it so it's fun to shoot
- 33:49Speaker 3: a bunch of stuff also. Like, a perfect example is
- 33:53Speaker 3: the Power Rangers thing that we're talking about right now.
- 33:56Speaker 3: We shot so much footage on that. Different jokes, different punchlines,
- 33:59Speaker 3: you know, different poses.
- 34:01Speaker 1: There was a thing about my sack being stuck to
- 34:03Speaker 1: my leg.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Leg, there's just.
- 34:04Speaker 1: So, well, I turned to Donald and I was like...
- 34:10Speaker 1: What did I go? I go, I got to get
- 34:12Speaker 1: out of this thing. My sack is stuck to my leg.
- 34:15Speaker 1: And Donald goes, Donald Turk goes, didn't you wear underwear?
- 34:21Speaker 1: And I go, I didn't want to have any visible
- 34:23Speaker 1: panty line.
- 34:27Speaker 3: But you know what I mean? Like we shoot so
- 34:28Speaker 3: much and what we, and it's enough so that we can,
- 34:34Speaker 3: if the thing doesn't work the way it's seen on paper,
- 34:38Speaker 3: you know, with the way the writer's, thought about it,
- 34:40Speaker 3: we can edit it and make it and mold it into, well,
- 34:44Speaker 3: Zach can edit, make it and mold it into a
- 34:47Speaker 3: funny joke.
- 34:47Speaker 2: And if it doesn't make it, it's like, like, I don't,
- 34:50Speaker 2: it's not like I, the dance number gets cut and
- 34:52Speaker 2: I am sad, like sad about the work that went
- 34:55Speaker 2: into that. It's like, that's, well, first of all, a
- 34:57Speaker 2: choreographed dance number is actually my dream.
- 35:00Speaker 3: So it's the fat of me that we got to
- 35:02Speaker 3: do it.
- 35:02Speaker 1: How much you loved being in a choreo. Sarah's dream
- 35:05Speaker 1: is to be in a flash mob. She says this
- 35:07Speaker 1: over and over again.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Yes, it is. It is my dream. More than anything,
- 35:11Speaker 2: a choreographed dance number is everything. I think it comes
- 35:16Speaker 2: from having wanted to do musical theater so badly and
- 35:20Speaker 2: that being my happy place.
- 35:22Speaker 3: Did your school not have musical theater or did you
- 35:24Speaker 3: just not make it?
- 35:24Speaker 1: No, she just got shamed for not being able to
- 35:26Speaker 1: sing and as a result, she is shut down. And
- 35:28Speaker 1: I recently at dinner gave her a pep talk. Much
- 35:31Speaker 1: like What Tosh says in two, which we're going to
- 35:36Speaker 1: talk about in the next episode, but like it's never
- 35:38Speaker 1: too late. And I said to Sarah, you know, we've
- 35:40Speaker 1: been teasing you about you not being able to sing
- 35:43Speaker 1: for so long, but that's all just bullshit. It's a joke.
- 35:46Speaker 1: If you just never like took lessons and took it
- 35:48Speaker 1: seriously and you could definitely get, I mean, you're not
- 35:50Speaker 1: going to be singing like Mariah Carey, but you can
- 35:52Speaker 1: like get legitimately better.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:55Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 35:55Speaker 1: Doing runs.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Oh my God. That would be my dream.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Well, my, my daughter's 10 and she can really sing.
- 36:05Speaker 2: Like she can hear notes. She can carry a tune.
- 36:07Speaker 2: She can, she hears a song once she knows every
- 36:09Speaker 2: word and she just sings it. And we do this
- 36:11Speaker 2: thing in the car now where she'll be like, she
- 36:13Speaker 2: wants to be my Siri. So I'll be like, Siri play.
- 36:15Speaker 2: And you can list any song and she can sing beautifully.
- 36:18Speaker 2: I'm like, like sing. And she's like, I would never
- 36:20Speaker 2: sing for, Anyone.
- 36:22Speaker 3: But you, Mom.
- 36:22Speaker 2: And I'm like, Frankie, like, you've got to, like, this
- 36:25Speaker 2: is so cool to have, like, a natural gift like that.
- 36:28Speaker 1: All right, we've got to keep it going. Why?
- 36:31Speaker 3: I was loving that story.
- 36:32Speaker 1: No, I love it. It's so sweet. I love it.
- 36:34Speaker 1: I'm just trying to be the guy who makes sure
- 36:36Speaker 1: we talk about the show.
- 36:38Speaker 3: We digress.
- 36:39Speaker 1: Let's talk about how funny Vanessa Bayer is. When she's looking,
- 36:43Speaker 1: she's on the hunt for the new couple. Every time
- 36:46Speaker 1: Vanessa does that trail-off noise that she does, I laugh.
- 36:50Speaker 1: I just find it so funny. Every time.
- 36:51Speaker 2: It's like an inaudible. It comes after the line. It's
- 36:54Speaker 2: the funniest part. It's this inaudible. You have no idea
- 36:57Speaker 2: what she's saying. Yeah.
- 36:58Speaker 3: I love the fact that she can make any line funny, though.
- 37:01Speaker 3: You know what I mean? Because you read it sometimes and,
- 37:03Speaker 3: you know, I struggle with punchlines. You know what I mean?
- 37:08Speaker 3: I think everybody struggles with, you know, I want to
- 37:12Speaker 3: make it funny. I don't want to take too long
- 37:13Speaker 3: of a beat. I don't want to take, you know,
- 37:15Speaker 3: I don't want to, you know, use the wrong word as,
- 37:20Speaker 3: you know, use infliction on the wrong word and stuff
- 37:23Speaker 3: like that. But she always nails it. There's never a
- 37:26Speaker 3: time where you're like, if you say it this way,
- 37:28Speaker 3: you'll get the laugh. She always says it the right way. Yeah.
- 37:32Speaker 1: And it's so specifically her, you know.
- 37:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:35Speaker 1: So Vanessa and I really think she's such a funny person.
- 37:39Speaker 2: When she when she comes up. Oh, no, that's in two.
- 37:41Speaker 3: We'll talk about it later.
- 37:42Speaker 1: Turk is very proud of his gazebo, but we learn
- 37:45Speaker 1: later that neither one of them really knows what to
- 37:47Speaker 1: do with the gazebo.
- 37:48Speaker 3: Yeah, what does one do with... What is a gazebo for?
- 37:51Speaker 3: I know it's to hang out outside and have shade
- 37:54Speaker 3: and stuff like that.
- 37:55Speaker 1: And screens. And I think they have screens. Maybe not
- 37:58Speaker 1: all have screens. I don't think they have screens. I
- 38:00Speaker 1: think you can choose to have a gazebo with or
- 38:01Speaker 1: without screens.
- 38:02Speaker 3: Is that tacky if you have a gazebo with screens?
- 38:05Speaker 1: No. No. Maybe you don't want flies in there. I know.
- 38:07Speaker 1: I think some people have a table. I imagine some
- 38:09Speaker 1: people have... Benches or a couch?
- 38:13Speaker 3: If you want to write in and tell us what you.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Do with your gazebo. By the way, Joelle, remind the
- 38:18Speaker 1: listeners what our email is because we're going to start
- 38:21Speaker 1: wanting you to– we're going to have guests on like
- 38:24Speaker 1: we did in the old days. Will you tell everybody?
- 38:27Speaker 2: Yes, scrubsiheart at gmail.com.
- 38:30Speaker 1: Scrubsiheart. We'll put a little chyron.
- 38:31Speaker 3: At the bottom.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Yeah, we'll put a chyron at the bottom. And you
- 38:33Speaker 1: can email there and we're going to– If you have
- 38:37Speaker 1: a really good question, we'll be able to, in our
- 38:39Speaker 1: new incarnation, we'll be able to have you on. You'll
- 38:41Speaker 1: be able to come on this monitor that Joelle's on.
- 38:43Speaker 3: I don't like you putting your hand in my face
- 38:45Speaker 3: like that.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Well, I was gesturing.
- 38:46Speaker 3: In my face.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Sorry. Imagine I just kept it here. Does everything is
- 38:52Speaker 1: this the whole time? So, yeah.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 38:57Speaker 1: So, yeah. There you go. There's our email. And email
- 39:00Speaker 1: us questions you have because we want to have guests on. Okay,
- 39:10Speaker 1: I'm keeping it moving, guys.
- 39:11Speaker 2: Wait, but you passed over such an amazing moment, which
- 39:14Speaker 2: is Dr. Cox, the montage of all the tests. It's
- 39:17Speaker 2: so powerful. And then the shot from above, so we
- 39:20Speaker 2: can take a minute to talk about what an incredible director.
- 39:23Speaker 3: ZB.
- 39:24Speaker 1: Oh, thanks.
- 39:24Speaker 2: Zach is.
- 39:26Speaker 1: Thank you, Sarah. I didn't mean to skip this part.
- 39:31Speaker 3: You're looking for your soot take.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Yeah, but there's no water in there.
- 39:35Speaker 2: You know, it's so hard for Zach to direct and
- 39:39Speaker 2: be acting in it all at the same time. But
- 39:41Speaker 2: the first episode of the season, he can do all
- 39:42Speaker 2: the prep before we come in. And he's such a
- 39:45Speaker 2: good director. It's so fun for us when he directs because,
- 39:48Speaker 2: you know, he knows us so well and kind of
- 39:51Speaker 2: knows how to give us direction that we know how
- 39:53Speaker 2: to hear and take.
- 39:55Speaker 3: That's the best way to put it. Knows how to
- 39:58Speaker 3: give us direction that we know how to hear.
- 40:00Speaker 1: Well, yeah, I know you guys so well, and I
- 40:03Speaker 1: want to thank you guys. This is totally earnest that
- 40:06Speaker 1: you let me direct you and you aren't precious about
- 40:09Speaker 1: it because— And of course, I'm always saying like, I
- 40:11Speaker 1: don't know this is right, but my gut is it
- 40:13Speaker 1: should be this way. And you guys are always so
- 40:15Speaker 1: lovely with trying any idea I have. And I thank
- 40:18Speaker 1: you for that.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Well, it's like it's just a safety thing where we
- 40:21Speaker 2: know if we try it and it's bad, like you're
- 40:23Speaker 2: not going to use it. So it's such a feeling
- 40:24Speaker 2: of like, oh, let's, you know, try anything. But this
- 40:27Speaker 2: shot where Cox is having this montage, it's such an important.
- 40:30Speaker 2: And it sets up, obviously, one of the funniest lines
- 40:33Speaker 2: of the show. He's like, thank you, JD, for using
- 40:37Speaker 2: my body to get your groove back. Stella.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Thank you, Stella.
- 40:43Speaker 2: For using my body to get your groove back. But, like,
- 40:45Speaker 2: it's such a cool shot, the way that you see
- 40:48Speaker 2: all this. Like, it's emotional. It's moving. You can't believe
- 40:50Speaker 2: how many tests he's going through. And then the shot
- 40:52Speaker 2: from above, it's awesome.
- 40:54Speaker 1: Well, my concept for that was, you know, I said
- 40:57Speaker 1: to myself, this is the first episode. We've done a
- 40:59Speaker 1: zillion montages. How can I make this one different? And
- 41:03Speaker 1: I wanted to do it just with the sounds. There's
- 41:07Speaker 1: a great movie that I love called Delicatessen. Joelle, you
- 41:11Speaker 1: know that movie. Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It's a French film. If
- 41:15Speaker 1: you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it. But there's
- 41:17Speaker 1: a sequence in Delicatessen where all of the noises from
- 41:21Speaker 1: this apartment building begin to sort of, without anyone's knowledge
- 41:26Speaker 1: because of just what's happening, they sort of begin to
- 41:28Speaker 1: make this beat of all the different things. One couple's
- 41:30Speaker 1: having sex and it's the sound of the springs. And
- 41:33Speaker 1: another couple, someone's practicing their violin. And little by little,
- 41:36Speaker 1: all the sounds sort of make this piece of music.
- 41:40Speaker 1: And I always remembered that. I thought that was so cool.
- 41:42Speaker 1: And so for this montage, my concept was all the
- 41:45Speaker 1: different rhythms of all the different tests start to make
- 41:47Speaker 1: a beat. And I have to give a shout out
- 41:51Speaker 1: to Ty, our editor who cut this, and also Waz,
- 41:54Speaker 1: who's our composer. When Ty was just cutting to the
- 42:00Speaker 1: rhythm of the images, it was getting close, but it
- 42:02Speaker 1: wasn't quite what was in my head. And so then
- 42:05Speaker 1: I had this idea. I go, what if I give
- 42:07Speaker 1: all these sound effects.
- 42:09Speaker 1: And in roughly their order, two wahs are composer. And
- 42:13Speaker 1: I say, I want you to make a beat out
- 42:15Speaker 1: of these. And it's got to build, build, build, add
- 42:18Speaker 1: the noises as the images come. So then wahs made
- 42:22Speaker 1: into a rhythm. And then I gave it back to
- 42:25Speaker 1: Ty and then Ty cut to the beat of the.
- 42:28Speaker 2: Oh, I want to rewatch it now knowing all that.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Yeah. So that's how we accomplish it. And that's how
- 42:32Speaker 1: it kind of feels like the sound effects of all
- 42:34Speaker 1: these tests begin to make a beat. Yeah.
- 42:37Speaker 2: And it builds and it's, and it has an emotional impact.
- 42:41Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:41Speaker 1: And then we did, we did a time-lapse over Johnny.
- 42:44Speaker 1: That's what you're referring to. And that's when, you know,
- 42:47Speaker 1: we shot that for, I don't know, however many minutes,
- 42:50Speaker 1: like four minutes or so. So when you play it back,
- 42:52Speaker 1: it's everyone's going super fast.
- 42:55Speaker 3: And then it ends with him going into the bathroom
- 42:56Speaker 3: and needing help to go into the bathroom.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 42:58Speaker 3: Which we just, we've never seen Cox like that. I
- 43:01Speaker 3: don't think, yeah, that's, that's the heartbreaking part. It's like, Like,
- 43:05Speaker 3: it's all heartbreaking. Okay, our mentor, our hero, people who...
- 43:09Speaker 3: This is me watching it as a fan. People who
- 43:12Speaker 3: have watched this show from the beginning, you know, you
- 43:16Speaker 3: love this guy. He was... At one point, Johnny was
- 43:20Speaker 3: the main story of Scrubs. We were the interns and
- 43:23Speaker 3: stuff like that, but you really followed Cox and Jordan's
- 43:26Speaker 3: storyline for, like, a season. I think season one. And so.
- 43:30Speaker 1: And two.
- 43:31Speaker 3: And so now... to see this guy who was this,
- 43:35Speaker 3: you know, always... When you watch the old show, Johnny
- 43:38Speaker 3: always had abs. He was always in great shape.
- 43:41Speaker 1: He's more ripped now than ever because he's doing Rooster.
- 43:43Speaker 1: He's got to be in his sauna with his shirt off.
- 43:45Speaker 3: But the character was always in this great shape, and
- 43:49Speaker 3: now you see him, and he's not in good shape
- 43:52Speaker 3: at all anymore. It makes that one scene where he's
- 43:55Speaker 3: talking to Carla so powerful because it's like, you know, dude,
- 43:59Speaker 3: you're right. When we first meet you, You were the
- 44:02Speaker 3: alpha of the hospital, and you are far from that now.
- 44:06Speaker 3: Even though you still have the ears of your interns,
- 44:09Speaker 3: of the kids you raised, you are not freaking the
- 44:13Speaker 3: guy walking through here who runs this shit anymore. You
- 44:17Speaker 3: know what I mean? You're far from that. Those days
- 44:20Speaker 3: are behind you. And it really breaks my heart to
- 44:22Speaker 3: hear him say that stuff. They're telling me when to pee.
- 44:25Speaker 3: They're telling me when to freaking move. They're telling me
- 44:27Speaker 3: I got to get these shots. I fucking don't, I'm
- 44:29Speaker 3: scared of all of this kidney stuff. You know what
- 44:31Speaker 3: I mean? My life is on the line right now
- 44:33Speaker 3: and I'm afraid. And it really makes, that's what makes
- 44:39Speaker 3: the turn so great also because in his mind he
- 44:41Speaker 3: can say, you know what? I was once the alpha
- 44:44Speaker 3: of all of this. And these kids that I got
- 44:47Speaker 3: that aren't kids anymore that I have working on my
- 44:50Speaker 3: body and trying to fix me, I taught them. And
- 44:54Speaker 3: if I'm afraid it's because I feel like I didn't
- 44:58Speaker 3: teach them well enough. I know I taught these guys
- 45:03Speaker 3: as much as I possibly can. They have all of
- 45:05Speaker 3: my knowledge.
- 45:06Speaker 1: They'll be able to figure this out. That's well said.
- 45:08Speaker 1: Let's talk about, since we'll go back to other things,
- 45:11Speaker 1: but that amazing scene between Cox and Carla on the
- 45:15Speaker 1: couch in the penthouse. Just so well acted by those two.
- 45:20Speaker 1: And fans, I think, really love and appreciate those two together.
- 45:25Speaker 1: And so I was so glad that Asim and the
- 45:30Speaker 1: writers gave us a big, juicy scene with them together
- 45:34Speaker 1: and her looking out for him.
- 45:36Speaker 2: It's so beautifully acted by Judy and Johnny. They did
- 45:40Speaker 2: such an incredible job. And it's one of those scenes
- 45:42Speaker 2: where you watch it and it's like... It's the best
- 45:46Speaker 2: of scrubs, you know, where you're laughing so hard, but
- 45:49Speaker 2: then when it gets you that hard, they... And you
- 45:53Speaker 2: can see the history. You can see these people have
- 45:55Speaker 2: known each other 25 years.
- 45:56Speaker 1: Well, them even longer. I mean, you think about those
- 45:59Speaker 1: two even longer because they're buddies before scrubs begin.
- 46:03Speaker 3: Before we get to the hospital, those two were already there.
- 46:06Speaker 3: They've been there for a while. As a matter of fact,
- 46:09Speaker 3: they might even... dated for a little bit, you know,
- 46:11Speaker 3: during the divorce. Remember, they talk about that back in
- 46:15Speaker 3: the day.
- 46:16Speaker 1: Really? I forgot about that. I remember the subplot that
- 46:18Speaker 1: they looked up.
- 46:20Speaker 3: There was.
- 46:22Speaker 4: A.
- 46:22Speaker 1: If I'm correct, do you remember this, Joelle? No, I
- 46:24Speaker 1: think you're right, Donald. I think you're right. There was, like,
- 46:26Speaker 1: a chemistry.
- 46:26Speaker 4: Like, I don't think there was an official, like, long-term
- 46:29Speaker 4: dating thing, but they do have these conversations of, like,
- 46:31Speaker 4: when we're both single and kind of hanging out.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah.
- 46:34Speaker 4: Can I say, guys, that this also... On my like
- 46:37Speaker 4: third rewatch, I started thinking about Bob Kelso and Ken
- 46:41Speaker 4: Jenkins and the fact that we had these moments with him.
- 46:44Speaker 4: And I think it's so interesting, you know, being a
- 46:46Speaker 4: fan of the show for so long when the show
- 46:48Speaker 4: initially came out, I was like a teenager.
- 46:50Speaker 1: And like you.
- 46:51Speaker 4: Perceive Bob as already being old and you're like, well, yeah,
- 46:53Speaker 4: of course he's on his way out. You take for
- 46:55Speaker 4: granted the impact it has on him. You're like, he's delusional.
- 46:59Speaker 4: He needs to like wake up. When you see it
- 47:00Speaker 4: happening to Johnny C, you're just like, wait, what? No,
- 47:04Speaker 4: this is like, and I think, you know, for listeners
- 47:06Speaker 4: of the podcast, you get to know Johnny C a
- 47:08Speaker 4: little bit. So if you've heard his episodes, that's like
- 47:11Speaker 4: an independent together with it guy, like outside of his character,
- 47:15Speaker 4: like that him as a person, he's just so like
- 47:17Speaker 4: with it. And so to, to watch him have this
- 47:20Speaker 4: great monologue. And I think Johnny C is like king
- 47:23Speaker 4: of the monologues on this show. Like obviously Zach had
- 47:26Speaker 4: some great ones and don't even good ones, but like it,
- 47:30Speaker 4: it blew my mind. Like that we were getting like
- 47:32Speaker 4: original quality speeches from Johnny C and And this thing,
- 47:36Speaker 4: and I felt like, um, you know, I think I
- 47:38Speaker 4: texted you guys, like this show feels like it never
- 47:40Speaker 4: went off air and it's, it's kind of mind blowing.
- 47:43Speaker 1: Thank you for saying that. I mean, that's what we're
- 47:45Speaker 1: trying to do. And, uh, you know, we try the
- 47:48Speaker 1: best compliment we get from fans and from you just
- 47:50Speaker 1: now is the, wow, it feels like it didn't miss
- 47:52Speaker 1: a beat. And that's, that's, that's what we're trying to
- 47:55Speaker 1: do is give people the same tone and show that they,
- 47:59Speaker 1: they loved for so many years. That scene for me
- 48:02Speaker 1: was really moving. Uh, because I just love those two
- 48:07Speaker 1: characters so much. And him, he's so alpha and tough.
- 48:10Speaker 1: And him giving in and holding her hand at the end,
- 48:15Speaker 1: I just thought was really moving to me.
- 48:17Speaker 3: Not only that, I remember when we were talking about
- 48:20Speaker 3: the scene, too, before it came up, we were out
- 48:22Speaker 3: at dinner with Johnny, and I was like, that scene's
- 48:25Speaker 3: going to fucking get you. He's like, fuck, I'm going
- 48:28Speaker 3: to fucking barrel through that. There's no way. I'm going
- 48:31Speaker 3: to barrel through it. It's nothing. And then I made
- 48:35Speaker 3: it to set that day and I saw him fucking break.
- 48:39Speaker 3: And I was like, told you. He's like, I didn't
- 48:42Speaker 3: see it coming. I didn't see it coming.
- 48:46Speaker 2: And then Judy looks at him and says, I know
- 48:49Speaker 2: how to take care of a patient if you'll let me.
- 48:50Speaker 3: And he's just.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Yeah. And he's there. He's there.
- 48:53Speaker 2: But that shot, Zach, of them holding hands.
- 48:55Speaker 1: Over the hand, right? That was cool.
- 48:57Speaker 2: It, like, gave me chills when I watched it.
- 48:59Speaker 1: Well, that's what it's like. I mean, not to be corny,
- 49:02Speaker 1: but it's the theme of the show. I can't do
- 49:04Speaker 1: this all on my own. Grab my fucking hand.
- 49:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:06Speaker 1: That's the whole theme of the show. Friendship gets you
- 49:08Speaker 1: through things. That's what the show's about.
- 49:11Speaker 2: Yeah. But to Donald's point, too, like, it's watching him, like,
- 49:15Speaker 2: it's such a pride thing. He's so proud and having to, like,
- 49:18Speaker 2: let go of that. but that but that you still
- 49:21Speaker 2: get moments in the episode where he still gets to
- 49:24Speaker 2: be a mentor right like he's he's still walking that
- 49:27Speaker 2: line and he still gets to say to tosh like
- 49:30Speaker 2: all these three that are trying to help.
- 49:31Speaker 1: Me I want to go back to a couple things. Sarah,
- 49:33Speaker 1: tell us about getting hit with the Godzilla fire. That costume, sorry,
- 49:41Speaker 1: that hair and makeup was so funny. The gals did
- 49:44Speaker 1: an incredible job on you.
- 49:47Speaker 3: You looked like a who afterwards. From Who Milk.
- 49:51Speaker 1: That turned out better than I could have ever imagined.
- 49:53Speaker 1: The fire looks great. You, you smoldering looks amazing.
- 49:56Speaker 2: Yeah. The special effects did an amazing job where you
- 49:58Speaker 2: actually see.
- 49:59Speaker 1: Like the hair on fire. Yeah. There's like some moments.
- 50:01Speaker 1: I didn't know they were going to add those. There's
- 50:03Speaker 1: like moments of you burning.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Burning still. They did on the day Theo brought out
- 50:07Speaker 2: a leaf blower.
- 50:08Speaker 1: So they put a leaf.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Blower in my face to make, you know, it looked
- 50:11Speaker 2: like I had fire blowing on me.
- 50:13Speaker 1: But that wig was incredible.
- 50:15Speaker 2: Oh, it just looks, everything's just totally burnt.
- 50:18Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 50:18Speaker 2: Yeah, totally. And then, you know, it's like, Then you go,
- 50:21Speaker 2: you spend, you get into work early, you spend a
- 50:23Speaker 2: couple hours getting in that and then you wash it
- 50:25Speaker 2: all off and start again and have your day.
- 50:26Speaker 1: It's like, it's the very best. Um, a couple of
- 50:28Speaker 1: things I laughed out loud about, and I've seen it
- 50:30Speaker 1: 9,000 times. I laugh every time when that nurse says,
- 50:33Speaker 1: but it's takey time. That wasn't in the script, was it? No,
- 50:40Speaker 1: I added that. She goes, she goes, he goes, you
- 50:43Speaker 1: woke me up to give me a sleeping pill. She goes,
- 50:45Speaker 1: but it's takey time.
- 50:46Speaker 3: She made me so angry. That nurse made me so angry.
- 50:50Speaker 3: I totally felt Jordan's anger in that moment. Yeah.
- 50:54Speaker 2: Um, But from that last scene when Sibby says, are
- 50:58Speaker 2: you the new couple? And J.D. says, you don't have
- 51:01Speaker 2: a word for.
- 51:01Speaker 1: What we are. No, you don't have the form for
- 51:03Speaker 1: what we are. You don't have the form for what
- 51:04Speaker 1: we are. You don't have the form for what we are.
- 51:09Speaker 1: So good. Delightful. That's a good line. That pretty much
- 51:13Speaker 1: sums up J.D. and Turk. There is no form to explain.
- 51:17Speaker 1: You can't put us in a basket.
- 51:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:20Speaker 1: No one's saying you're not a caked-up ebony god is
- 51:23Speaker 1: my favorite line. Yeah. And that almost got cut. I'm
- 51:28Speaker 1: glad that didn't. Sometimes I cut things just for time,
- 51:31Speaker 1: and then I'll show them to Bill, and he's like,
- 51:33Speaker 1: why would you take out black Zeus caked-up ebony god? Oh,
- 51:38Speaker 1: and then you going, Jesus.
- 51:40Speaker 3: Zeus is black.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Zeus was black.
- 51:41Speaker 3: So was Jesus and Saturday.
- 51:43Speaker 1: So good. He said, put that back. This ass failed
- 51:46Speaker 1: six grades.
- 51:47Speaker 4: I didn't understand gravity.
- 51:48Speaker 1: Oh, by the way, we got to talk about the ass.
- 51:50Speaker 1: The first cut of that ass thing was so much
- 51:52Speaker 1: more elaborate, Joelle. It used to, like, slow zoom into
- 51:56Speaker 1: Donald's ass. And then you heard, I believe I can fly.
- 52:00Speaker 3: I swear to God.
- 52:03Speaker 1: And then there was a zoom from the point of
- 52:05Speaker 1: view of Donald's ass up at me, just nodding. Nodding
- 52:08Speaker 1: at it like, yeah. And then in one take, I, like,
- 52:11Speaker 1: bit my lip, like... It was very, it was so homoerotic.
- 52:17Speaker 3: Wait, what is JD's fantasy that one day the two
- 52:20Speaker 3: of them will be together?
- 52:20Speaker 1: No, it's just, I was cracking up on set and
- 52:24Speaker 1: then in the edit room it was like, this is
- 52:26Speaker 1: far too homoerotic. These two look like they need to
- 52:29Speaker 1: get a closet and go back. And so I cut
- 52:33Speaker 1: it all down. So now it's just like, what is it?
- 52:37Speaker 1: It's mesmerizing.
- 52:38Speaker 3: It's mesmerizing.
- 52:39Speaker 2: And you're looking off like so longingly and caught up
- 52:42Speaker 2: in the moment. Krista was so good in this episode.
- 52:44Speaker 1: Yeah, great acting from Krista. She did a wonderful job.
- 52:46Speaker 2: The whole thing was so painful when she's there with Cox.
- 52:49Speaker 1: Yeah, when you finally yell at her and she's so sad.
- 52:52Speaker 1: By the way, Sarah, you were so funny. I laughed
- 52:54Speaker 1: every time when you do your sassy Latina. Ramon gave
- 52:58Speaker 1: me rum.
- 52:59Speaker 3: Well, cousin Ramon gave me rum.
- 53:01Speaker 2: That was just something you made up on the spot.
- 53:02Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. But it was so funny. That wasn't in
- 53:05Speaker 1: the script, but it was so funny. And we add
- 53:10Speaker 1: Judy going, when you were over-served at my niece's quinceanera,
- 53:13Speaker 1: your cousin Ramon kept giving me rum. I want to
- 53:17Speaker 1: say one thing, by the way. Just, you know, we
- 53:20Speaker 1: had to cut. Both the neurologist and the radiologist did
- 53:24Speaker 1: wonderful jobs, and I want to give them a shout out.
- 53:26Speaker 1: But this is kind of the one thing that happens, unfortunately,
- 53:29Speaker 1: when we cut the show down. They had great scenes,
- 53:31Speaker 1: and they're both wonderful actors. We had to cut them
- 53:33Speaker 1: way down. The radiologist at least gets to speak. The
- 53:35Speaker 1: neurologist doesn't.
- 53:37Speaker 3: Even have a line.
- 53:37Speaker 1: Doesn't talk at all. And I feel horrible, and we'll
- 53:40Speaker 1: have them back because they're wonderful. But again, it's such
- 53:43Speaker 1: a battle and such a wrestling match to get these
- 53:46Speaker 1: down to 21 minutes. So I just wanted to give
- 53:48Speaker 1: them love because it's not them. They were wonderful, but
- 53:51Speaker 1: we just didn't have the time.
- 53:53Speaker 2: Kay Callan was so good.
- 53:55Speaker 1: Oh, Kay Callan, who we saw on Widow's Bay, obviously. Uh, and, um,
- 54:01Speaker 1: just a spoiler that, well, not a spoiler. You will
- 54:04Speaker 1: see her again. She's gonna, she'll be back in, uh,
- 54:07Speaker 1: in 203. Um, um, but she was, she's wonderful and
- 54:11Speaker 1: it was really fun to have her on set. And
- 54:13Speaker 1: she delivers so well, man.
- 54:15Speaker 2: Like.
- 54:15Speaker 3: She delivered. I'm not sure that looks.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Like a penis. Yeah. She was so funny. Just imagine
- 54:22Speaker 1: you've been able to cut to a penis on a string,
- 54:25Speaker 1: but no, not allowed.
- 54:26Speaker 2: A pixelated, even if it was pixelated again.
- 54:28Speaker 4: No.
- 54:29Speaker 1: One pixelation.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Can I ask about one more moment?
- 54:32Speaker 1: Of course. I just tucked how I'll teach you later. Yes,
- 54:36Speaker 1: thank you, Joelle. Oh, I forgot. Thank you very much.
- 54:41Speaker 1: I just tucked I'll teach you later. Did you see him?
- 54:43Speaker 1: Do you see him flex? He flinches too.
- 54:46Speaker 2: He goes.
- 54:47Speaker 1: I made that up on the spot. And I have
- 54:49Speaker 1: to tell you, I never thought that would stay. But also, Joelle,
- 54:52Speaker 1: there was a lot of discussion on how much noise
- 54:54Speaker 1: should be on the sound effect for my tuck music.
- 54:57Speaker 1: And I'm sitting there in the mix with, like, 30 people,
- 55:01Speaker 1: and everyone's like, I think it should be this amount
- 55:03Speaker 1: of sound. And I'm like, do you actually hear a...
- 55:08Speaker 1: I know. You hear a, like... You hear a penis
- 55:12Speaker 1: rearrange itself.
- 55:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:18Speaker 1: But in my mind, there was no sound effect. And
- 55:21Speaker 1: then everyone in the mix stage was like, no, there
- 55:23Speaker 1: should be something. And they played one noise that was like, guys,
- 55:26Speaker 1: I appreciate it, but that's too much. Because the take
- 55:33Speaker 1: one was like... Thank you, guys, but that's way too much.
- 55:42Speaker 1: I love that that made it in. I was like,
- 55:44Speaker 1: they're not going to leave. We are not going to
- 55:46Speaker 1: leave this in, but we did.
- 55:47Speaker 3: That was funny.
- 55:49Speaker 1: Let's see.
- 55:50Speaker 3: Yes.
- 55:50Speaker 1: We should talk about, okay, so. We're running out of time,
- 55:53Speaker 1: but let's get to.
- 55:54Speaker 2: Sibby's saying your brother and sister, although that is the
- 55:56Speaker 2: ultimate taboo.
- 55:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 55:57Speaker 1: The look she gives. Oh, no. Yeah.
- 55:59Speaker 2: As she's walking away.
- 56:00Speaker 1: Hey, don't king shame her.
- 56:02Speaker 3: No, I'm not. I'm not.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Do not king shame her. Don't you do it. I
- 56:06Speaker 1: would never. I would never.
- 56:08Speaker 2: It is one of the best Vanessa Bayer moments. Yeah.
- 56:11Speaker 1: Not only did she say, first of all, for those
- 56:14Speaker 1: that may not know, they are not brother and sister. Yes.
- 56:19Speaker 1: She thinks that's the ultimate taboo. No, it's two levels. No,
- 56:22Speaker 1: it's two levels. She goes, it's the ultimate taboo. And
- 56:24Speaker 1: then she walks off totally turned on by it. I
- 56:29Speaker 1: can't look away.
- 56:30Speaker 3: Yeah, no. It's like the face that you make when
- 56:32Speaker 3: you smell something. And she's got that. But it's just
- 56:37Speaker 3: like that.
- 56:37Speaker 1: She's smiling. Yeah.
- 56:39Speaker 2: Um.
- 56:40Speaker 1: I want to talk about Sarah with the blanket at
- 56:43Speaker 1: the end. Sarah could not figure out. Sarah is a
- 56:48Speaker 1: brilliant comedian and a brilliant physical comedian and never misses
- 56:52Speaker 1: a line. A lot of us fuck up lines all
- 56:54Speaker 1: the time. Sarah almost never does. She could not for
- 56:57Speaker 1: the life of her tuck Krista in without fucking it up.
- 57:00Speaker 3: She couldn't put a blanket over another person.
- 57:03Speaker 1: What was going on with that? Why couldn't you lay
- 57:05Speaker 1: a blanket on someone? I am not good at blankets.
- 57:07Speaker 1: I'm not good at blanket.
- 57:09Speaker 2: I'm not good at blanket. Zach was like, you just
- 57:11Speaker 2: had four monologues. Like, what is, like, what.
- 57:13Speaker 1: Is, you can't do a blanket? Every take was fucked up.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Then she finally does it right, right? And then we're
- 57:17Speaker 1: about to get the shot and we see a shadow
- 57:19Speaker 1: dancing all over Krista's face. And we're like, whoa, whoa, whoa, cut, cut, cut.
- 57:23Speaker 1: What is the shadow? It was Sarah celebrating with Johnny C.
- 57:28Speaker 1: That she managed to lay the blanket.
- 57:32Speaker 2: I did so good at blanket. It required a celebration dance.
- 57:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:36Speaker 2: Unfortunately, the shadow was all over Chris's face. So the
- 57:39Speaker 2: one take that I could do it actually couldn't be used.
- 57:42Speaker 2: And then it got to the point where I was
- 57:44Speaker 2: like doubled over laughing so hard I couldn't get my
- 57:47Speaker 2: shit together. So it was like we couldn't even do
- 57:49Speaker 2: another take because I couldn't stop laughing.
- 57:50Speaker 1: The camera systems were like, I want you guys to
- 57:52Speaker 1: know this is officially the most takes we've ever done
- 57:55Speaker 1: on Scrubs. And it was Sarah laying a blanket on Chris.
- 57:59Speaker 2: So first of all, the blanket was too low. Then
- 58:01Speaker 2: I covered her mouth. Then, because it all had to
- 58:04Speaker 2: happen quite timed out. The shot in Reelsies actually.
- 58:07Speaker 1: Continued a little further. It's the length of JD's voiceover,
- 58:09Speaker 1: so it had to be choreographed. But Sarah could not
- 58:12Speaker 1: get it.
- 58:12Speaker 2: I couldn't get Blanket.
- 58:13Speaker 3: I have a question for all of you guys.
- 58:14Speaker 1: Go ahead.
- 58:15Speaker 3: Because this happened to me, and it happened every time
- 58:17Speaker 3: I watched it. Go ahead. It's one of the reasons
- 58:19Speaker 3: why I had to watch it so many times.
- 58:21Speaker 1: Wu-Tang is forever.
- 58:22Speaker 3: Remember that.
- 58:23Speaker 1: Hey, Donald, before you talk.
- 58:24Speaker 3: Wu-Tang forever. Forever and ever and ever.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Hey.
- 58:28Speaker 3: But we were supposed to take notes. And at some point,
- 58:33Speaker 3: my pen stopped, not that it stopped working, but my
- 58:37Speaker 3: hand just stopped moving and I just was stuck like
- 58:40Speaker 3: this on the screen watching the show.
- 58:42Speaker 1: Sarah did the same thing because I was watching Sarah
- 58:44Speaker 1: watch and she took like, at the beginning she was like. Right,
- 58:47Speaker 1: and then she just stopped, she just stopped and started
- 58:49Speaker 1: watching the show.
- 58:50Speaker 3: And then crying and then typically. It happened every time though,
- 58:53Speaker 3: every time. So when we get to the end of
- 58:55Speaker 3: every one of these, the first two episodes, I don't
- 59:00Speaker 3: have a lot of notes because I had stopped writing
- 59:02Speaker 3: and just started watching.
- 59:03Speaker 1: Well, that's good. You got lost in the show.
- 59:05Speaker 3: I love that.
- 59:05Speaker 1: All right. With our last minute, let's talk about the tag.
- 59:08Speaker 1: um i i can't believe they let us put this
- 59:10Speaker 1: on the air you know we are an abc they
- 59:12Speaker 1: are very strict about what we can do and granted
- 59:14Speaker 1: you quickly show that we're stretching but there are some
- 59:18Speaker 1: naughty lines in there uh jd says it's his first
- 59:20Speaker 1: time receiving.
- 59:21Speaker 3: Yes yes now it's my turn It's my first time
- 59:25Speaker 3: receiving it.
- 59:25Speaker 1: Can you go any deeper? I'm giving you all I got.
- 59:28Speaker 3: All that I got.
- 59:29Speaker 1: Do you want me to do you? Okay, but be gentle.
- 59:32Speaker 1: It's my first time receiving.
- 59:34Speaker 2: I couldn't believe it because obviously we're not there when
- 59:38Speaker 2: you're shooting that and none of that was in the script.
- 59:40Speaker 3: No.
- 59:40Speaker 1: We made all that up. And then I made up
- 59:43Speaker 1: the idea that I'm not going to let Rowdy watch.
- 59:45Speaker 1: But what's so funny is I go, Not this time, boy.
- 59:48Speaker 1: As though like with other times.
- 59:50Speaker 3: He's allowed to watch. Like in the middle of it,
- 59:53Speaker 3: he goes, in the middle of it, JD looks over
- 59:55Speaker 3: and goes, look at Rowdy. He's totally checking us out.
- 59:59Speaker 2: But this one's special.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: I think that was so funny. This one's special. So
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: I'm going to have to turn you towards the wall.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: I can't watch this one.
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: Also, before that, one of the amazing lines on the
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: rooftop is when you're like saying to Charlie that, She's
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: hot enough to be a flat.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: Earther that you can get past that. That's true. Rachel
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: is hot enough that we can get past it.
- 1:00:18Speaker 2: We can get past it, but yeah.
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: If Rachel was a flat earther, we could all get
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: past it.
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: We'd be fine with it.
- 1:00:23Speaker 3: Yeah, I love it. So before we go, the B
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: line or the C storyline is that Turk doesn't necessarily
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: do a lot for Carla anymore because they're all very
- 1:00:32Speaker 3: comfortable into their relationship. That's going to pay dividends as
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: the show goes on. Guys, I don't want you to
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: think it's over yet. You'll see more.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: Yeah, more to come. Thank God. Yes, Joelle, what would
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: you say?
- 1:00:46Speaker 4: Listen, I've accepted that JD is no longer with who
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: I thought was going to be the love of his life,
- 1:00:54Speaker 4: and it hurts me. I can't take Turk.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: And Carla not being together. I need Turk to be
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: all the husband he can be for her. It will
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: hurt me deeply. But I think that it's good for,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: you know, the story is sweet. It's a husband realizing, like,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: You know, maybe I am phony in a bit. Maybe I,
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: you know, my friend is being extra and he's being ridiculous.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: But you know what? Maybe I'm not doing enough. And
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: I think that's very sweet and relatable to a lot
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: of people.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: It's definitely relatable because after doing it, that was the
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: first thing I thought of was my wife. I was like, shit,
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: I can do more stuff. But I'm doing a lot, right, babe?
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: Hold on, hold on. What a cool side effect. She's
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: here to weigh in.
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: Zach, I love you. Zach, I love you.
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: All right, that's our time. That concludes our very first
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: episode of the Hulu iHeart video version of our show.
- 1:01:47Speaker 3: Fake Doctors, Real Friends.
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: Thank you for tuning in. Donald, count us out. Five, six, seven, eight.
- 1:01:56Speaker 5: About a bunch of docs and nurses and a janitor
- 1:02:00Speaker 5: who loved to hate. I said he's got stories that
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: we all should know. So gather round to hear our,
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: gather round to hear our Scrubs Rewatch Show with Zach
- 1:02:13Speaker 5: and Donald.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
