- 2:34com. It is raining here in New York.
- 2:37There has been storms being repeated over and over and over
- 2:41again over the day that they're going to hit New York and it's
- 2:44going to hit it dead on. Well, it's right now a rain
- 2:48delay for the Mets, I'm pretty sure, and the Yankees.
- 2:51I don't even know if there's going to be a game.
- 2:54It's been crazy. And I, I don't understand the
- 2:56weather. We talk about this all the time
- 2:59on this show and I don't get the weather.
- 3:01I really don't. And obviously living here in
- 3:04here in New York, you're wondering when the winter is
- 3:07going to come, when the fall is going to come, when the leaves
- 3:09going to fall. And usually when you see the
- 3:11acorns hit the ground, it means fall is right around the corner.
- 3:15I saw acorns about a week ago. I haven't seen or acorns since.
- 3:20So I, I'm probably thinking that summer won't be over for at
- 3:25least another two to three weeks, which means another heat
- 3:29wave is on the move right after the snowstorm.
- 3:33We're supposed to be hitting 90 over the weekend.
- 3:36So I am not happy about it. I can't stand the weather and I
- 3:39want to run. I do not want to go to Florida.
- 3:42I do not want to go to San Diego.
- 3:43I don't care if it's Texas. It's dry.
- 3:45I hate the heat. I hate, I hate, I, I hate the
- 3:50summer. So yes, falls around the corner.
- 3:54Winter's around the corner. Football's around the corner.
- 3:57Hockey and basketball is around the corner.
- 4:00For all you New Yorkers, Jabba, what's up?
- 4:03Nada, it's it's warm here too it felt like 100 and I think 103
- 4:07today so it's going to be even hotter to tomorrow and Friday.
- 4:11I think just the temperature alone supposed to be like 96.
- 4:14So yeah, we're, we're on board with you guys.
- 4:16It's it's hot and humid and sticky and then, you know, you
- 4:19just never know. It's supposed to be warm
- 4:21throughout the throughout the thing.
- 4:23I mean, it's a seems like a common denominator between here
- 4:26here in New York that you never know what the weather's going to
- 4:28be if it's, you don't know to pull out your sweatshirts or
- 4:31whatever, keep your shorts on. I mean, it's a, it's a cluster
- 4:34around here. But you know what, It's not too
- 4:36bad. We got a bunch of rain to last.
- 4:39So everything's kind of green and up.
- 4:41So it's, I love the fall. I love the changing of colors
- 4:44and, and all that stuff. And everything is pretty green
- 4:46right now, so we woke up today. So everything else is a bonus,
- 4:50right? Corn is ripping over there in
- 4:52Nebraska for all you women out there, if you know what I mean.
- 4:55Their men are searching through the corn fields looking for
- 4:58those. Corns done now it's corns done
- 5:02if it. I was trying to be funny there,
- 5:04but it went over. The cornfields are open and the
- 5:08women and the men are looking and lurking.
- 5:10You didn't get it. That's fine.
- 5:12Know nothing about corn. Well, you're right.
- 5:14I like corn. I like eating it.
- 5:16I like butter in my corn speed it don't like.
- 5:18Butter. Do you like corn on the cob or
- 5:20do you like? Corn on the cob.
- 5:22I don't like corn in a can. I'm not a big fan of that.
- 5:24You like cream corn? I like cream corn.
- 5:27Yeah, I do too. I like corn, anything with corn,
- 5:29but the problem with it is there's a lot of sugar in it.
- 5:32So yeah. And right now I had a, you know,
- 5:35obviously anybody that listens to the show, my A1C is up, so I
- 5:39have to stay away from. Those you said it was down the
- 5:41last time you checked it. I haven't.
- 5:43I haven't checked it yet. I gotta wait three months, three
- 5:46months, September, mid-september is when I'll get my A1C checked
- 5:51again, hoping that it falls from 5.8 to 5 point O If it's at that
- 5:56level, I'm in good shape. But I've always worried about
- 5:59this with my sugar levels and I and I was speaking to my
- 6:03girlfriend's father before the show and I was telling him about
- 6:05my sugar levels and he told me the last time I was in Florida,
- 6:09I would buy all these different candies and I was in Walmart, I
- 6:12would buy all these different cakes.
- 6:14I bring it back to the house and I always leave it at his house
- 6:17and now he is he's type 2 diabetic, so he would watch me
- 6:20eating. He says it's going to catch up
- 6:22on you. It's going to catch up.
- 6:23I was like never going to catch up on me.
- 6:25I go on my trip and I come back and then I get my blood taken
- 6:30and my my A1C is at 5.8. So I'm a pre diabetic person
- 6:36ladies and gentlemen and hopefully with all the different
- 6:39dieting that I have done over the last couple of weeks, 10
- 6:42weeks now without a sugar drink. I was over there at the Bronx
- 6:45Zoo yesterday enjoying myself with my mother and my girl.
- 6:50I love the Bronx. Zoo, did you ever experience
- 6:52like any withdrawal like from like?
- 6:54Everybody has me that. Everybody has been asking me
- 6:56that maybe for 24 to 48 hours. I got a couple of headaches, but
- 7:01not as bad as everybody thought it would be.
- 7:03Because over the years, you know, you have withdrawals on
- 7:06things that you try. I don't know if you do it when
- 7:09you're smoking, but when you drink, if you're a big drinker
- 7:12and you decide to part ways with drinking beer or liquor, you're
- 7:15going to withdraw. If you're a pill popper, you're
- 7:18going to probably withdraw. If you, you're, you're doing it
- 7:21for a significant amount of time.
- 7:23I have never been an addictive person.
- 7:25So over the years I'm all I've been doing is drinking sugary
- 7:29drinks. So I've never drank water
- 7:32consistently like I have had over the last couple of weeks,
- 7:36really almost three months. So it's incredible that I've
- 7:40stuck to the plan. And my plan was stick to water
- 7:44and stay away from every single sugar drink.
- 7:46No Pepsi, no Coke, none of those things, no lemonade, nothing.
- 7:51And I'm a Slurpee drinker, so you know how hard that is to go
- 7:54to 711 and look at the Slurpee. Yeah, slurpy little slushies.
- 7:57Oh man, I'm a slushy person. I love ices too.
- 8:01I have a ton of them right now in my freeze and I look at them
- 8:04every single night and. My like the like the sparkling
- 8:06ices are like which ones? I like the ones, the old type
- 8:09ones. You know the what do they call
- 8:11them? Speedy?
- 8:12What are those old ices that I eat all the time?
- 8:15What are they called? Ices.
- 8:16I guess they're ICS speed. I don't even know why I asked
- 8:19Speedy because his head so far up his ass.
- 8:21I can never ask this guy anything.
- 8:23He sits there, he knows what I'm talking about, but he just sits
- 8:28there and he doesn't even know what.
- 8:29He doesn't even know how to answer the question.
- 8:31I would say it's ICS. I like all different colors.
- 8:34I like the blue and I like the Gray.
- 8:36That's my favorite. So what I do is I buy like 3
- 8:40packets of it and the packages of it and it's usually got fifty
- 8:44of them. And I take all the blue and
- 8:45grape and I put it on the side and then I keep the my second
- 8:49favorite ones are orange and red and I put that on the side.
- 8:53And what I do for Speedy as I give him the apple, the green,
- 8:56the ones I don't like, he eats those.
- 8:58So. You give me the fruit punch
- 9:00ones, I like those. Sometimes.
- 9:02Sometimes if I want to be nice, but I don't like to share any of
- 9:05my Ices. But like I said, my brother also
- 9:09is a big ISIS person. He likes the the ones in the
- 9:12cup, you know, the Italian ices. He likes to flip it and eat it,
- 9:16eat the bottom 1st and go right to the top because it's got all
- 9:19the juice on the bottom. So I watch.
- 9:21Him. What's the ones that like you
- 9:23can like push up from the bottom?
- 9:25What's the ones? That's the ones I think he's
- 9:27referring to, those long ones with the plastic.
- 9:29That's what Yeah, the long and it's like skinny and then gets
- 9:31bigger there's. All different names for him, but
- 9:33that's what he's referring to like.
- 9:35He'll have, I think, different parts call him different things,
- 9:37I think. Yeah, well, Speedy knows all
- 9:39about pulling things, but nevertheless, I do.
- 9:42Those are the ices I like to eat.
- 9:45I don't really like the cup ones.
- 9:46I, I'm more of the, the stick 1. So I, I, it's a shame because
- 9:51every time I look in my freezer, I want to eat them.
- 9:53I want it. And then I I have my friends
- 9:56telling me you can have one, you can have two, you just can't
- 9:59have 10 of them. Oh, the the pop ices, that's
- 10:02one, yeah. That's the ones I want, yeah.
- 10:03The ones on the last last one on the right, those are the ones I
- 10:06like right there. Yeah.
- 10:08Those are the ones, Yep. Yeah people call them like
- 10:10flavor ice or freezes or pop ices.
- 10:13Those it good you can get like 1000 of them for like 6 bucks.
- 10:16Yeah, that's sort of saying I get like 50 of them for like $5
- 10:21and I stack them up. I stack the grapes in the Blues
- 10:24up and then the oranges in the red, and then I share the rest
- 10:27to everybody else. But I have them stacked up and I
- 10:30can't eat them. Could you imagine going in the
- 10:33freezer every single day and you're looking for something to
- 10:35eat and all you see is sugar and you can't have it?
- 10:39I will, I will agree with with poops bomb pops are like, OK, so
- 10:44now we're on this topic real quick before we get into it.
- 10:46The ice cream man, what was your go to on the ice cream truck?
- 10:49I like vanilla and chocolate with strawberry topping with
- 10:53colored sprinkles. I've always the cookie sandwich
- 10:55every time. Oh, the chocolate chip cookie
- 10:57sandwich. I was always the I was always
- 11:00the stupid kid that would get the, the like the Bugs Bunny
- 11:03face and the eyes looked like he was a crackhead.
- 11:08One would be like up and down. Yeah.
- 11:10The cookie sandwiches. Yeah, it's yeah.
- 11:13Well, I mean, it's it's sad. It saddens me because I always
- 11:18enjoy those ices and and the ice cream.
- 11:21Yeah, thank you, fish, but never exciting when you get a chance
- 11:26to see the opportunity. And I, I have been eating ice
- 11:30cream, but I eat it. I eat it in like, you know,
- 11:34every three or four days I split it up.
- 11:36I can't eat it all the time because it's so high in sugar.
- 11:39So I'm trying to stick to the pattern I have set up over the
- 11:44last 10 weeks. Michael Porter Junior is out and
- 11:48about as the NBA season is right around the corner.
- 11:51Says sports betting has hurt sports.
- 11:54Michael Porter Junior says sports betting is hurting sports
- 11:58and it is only going to get worse as time moves forward.
- 12:02On the One Night with Steinie podcast, the recently traded
- 12:08forward said that betting has damaged the integrity of
- 12:11enjoyment of the game. Porter went further, saying that
- 12:16he understood how athletes that grew up poor cannot resist the
- 12:21temptation of sports betting and that it's hard for players to
- 12:25resist helping their homies, helping them get a bag by
- 12:31multiply, I'm sorry, manipulating prop bets like his
- 12:35brother Jante did, leading to a lifetime suspension from the
- 12:39NBA. Porter also commented on how
- 12:43gamblers attack players and send them death threats and that the
- 12:48focus from fans is no longer on the actual game.
- 12:53Porter believes that sports betting should be restricted to
- 12:56in person bets and only in Vegas.
- 13:00The whole sports gambling entity, it's bad and it's only
- 13:04going to get worse. Porter, who was traded in the
- 13:08offseason to the Nets from Denver, was a key member of the
- 13:122023 NBA champion. Nuggets average 18 points and
- 13:17seven rebounds a game, shooting 50% from the field and 39.5%
- 13:23from 3. Michael Porter coming out is
- 13:26pretty much protecting his brother.
- 13:28That's what I would think on this story and, and going on the
- 13:32Steinie podcast, by the way, me and Fish were talking about this
- 13:36Offset and, and, and talking about podcast names.
- 13:39That is one of the worst podcast names I have ever heard in my
- 13:43entire life. And I, I like him.
- 13:45I like what he's doing. I love what he does with the
- 13:47NBA, but the fact that Mister Steinie, Mark Steinie is coming
- 13:52up with a name one night with Steinie it it's just a horrible,
- 13:56horrible podcast name. So we will definitely have to
- 13:59read, reach out to Mr. Steinie and try to fix that up.
- 14:02Maybe it will, we'll re reactivate some sports names for
- 14:07him and names that have not been used over the last couple of
- 14:10years and activate it back for him because he is absolutely out
- 14:13of his mind using. I understand he's using his own
- 14:16name to promote his podcast, but just one night with Steinie.
- 14:20I mean, how about all nights with Steinie Or hit the gutter
- 14:24with Steinie or I'm going to take a dump with Steinie.
- 14:27I like that. That's a pretty good name.
- 14:29Anyways, the interesting story here is, is Porter coming out
- 14:33about gambling and that a lot of these young guys that have no
- 14:37money or from poor families or come from poor parts of the
- 14:42world in the country are trying to make extra money.
- 14:45Obviously, when they come to the NBA as rookies, they're still
- 14:48making a significant amount of money.
- 14:50NBA players as rookies make a good a pile of money.
- 14:54If they're in the NBA and they're a part of the top 12,
- 14:57top 13 roster, they're making over $1,000,000.
- 15:00But guys like John Tay, as we all know the story when he was
- 15:04playing for Toronto was prop betting for himself and putting
- 15:09his team in situations to lose. And and that's why the NB as
- 15:14John Tay downed on him when when it came to suspending him for
- 15:19life. Now, I do also believe sports
- 15:23betting's been around for a very, very long time with the
- 15:25NBA, the NHL, the NFLMLB. It's been going on for a long,
- 15:30long time. Ask Pete Rose.
- 15:32He has not been inducted into the Hall of Fame for really his
- 15:35whole life. Now he's gone and he'll probably
- 15:37inducted in the next two or three years.
- 15:39I think obviously the way Porter is bringing this story out is
- 15:44that he believes there should be gambling.
- 15:48Gambling in sports should be allowed.
- 15:50It's just it's got to be configured better.
- 15:53And the problem right now is that there is no configuration
- 15:58on it comes to when it comes to sports betting.
- 16:00If you're going to bet on your own sport, you're going to get
- 16:03in trouble. If you're playing professional
- 16:05sports and you're betting on another sport, you're going to
- 16:08get in trouble. The only way you can bet on
- 16:10sports is if you retire or you're no longer working for
- 16:13that organization. That's when the NBA, the NHL,
- 16:17the MLB and the NFL would be OK with you betting on sports.
- 16:21And I think I obviously Michael Porter makes a lot of valuable
- 16:25points on obviously bringing out and and manipulating different
- 16:30prop betting when it comes to sports.
- 16:32Now, if you're a professional football player and you're a
- 16:35quarterback and you're betting on sports, you're you're going
- 16:38to bet that you're, if you're throwing 20 passes in a game and
- 16:42you're throwing most of them over 50%, you're probably going
- 16:46to win that prop bet because 90% of the starters in the, in the
- 16:52NFL throw 50% of their passes, make 50% of their passes.
- 16:56So that's an easy prop bet. But again, when you watch
- 17:00different sports and you're trying to configure
- 17:02understanding how this betting is starting to progress when it
- 17:07comes to all these different countries and states that are
- 17:10allowing it now, again, it's become manipulative because now
- 17:15you're not just betting on a game, you're not betting on the
- 17:17over unders. You're betting on players.
- 17:19You're betting on what they're going to score, how many
- 17:22assists, how many rebounds they're going to have in a game
- 17:23or in football, how many touchdowns they're going to have
- 17:26or how many yards they're going to have or how many catches to
- 17:29yards they're going to have. It's different now sports and
- 17:32other things Now food has become a sport.
- 17:35Everything's become a sport. We I've watched on ESPN climbing
- 17:40hills are sports now. There's so many different sports
- 17:44now they they consider sports video games is a sport now,
- 17:47which is going to be an. Olympic, they got ESPN, the Ocho
- 17:49for all those crazy sports. I know it's just everything's a
- 17:52sport now. Everything's considered a sport
- 17:55if you're moving. And now chess, which we've known
- 17:58over the years, they've considered chess as a sport.
- 18:01Cards. Playing poker is a sport and and
- 18:05evaluating and understanding how people are using prop bets in
- 18:09sports has really changed the game.
- 18:12Is it for the better or for the worse.
- 18:14Now a lot of these athletes as we all know Jonte, as we all
- 18:17know Otani because we know and we're going to get into the
- 18:20whole Otani story because Otani again is a part of a scandal.
- 18:25Not surprised, ladies and gentlemen.
- 18:27The fact is when you look at sports and you're trying to
- 18:30figure out betting and understanding the the why these
- 18:35players are getting in trouble and, and other sports and
- 18:38obviously the NBA, the NBA and obviously Adam Silver figuring
- 18:43out what the LGA is, is doing right now when it comes to
- 18:47sports betting. And, and again, if it was LeBron
- 18:49James or if it was Giannis or Joel Embiid or any of the big
- 18:53stars doing it, I think it would be brushed under the rug.
- 18:56But you see, Michael Porter is going to go on a, a sports show
- 18:59and with Mark Stein and he's going to speak up on, on what's
- 19:02going on when it comes to sports betting and understand
- 19:04understanding why sports betting has become such a, such an
- 19:08illegal thing when it comes to sports.
- 19:11And, and we're trying to figure out how it's going to be more
- 19:14understanding when it comes to legality and understanding how
- 19:17they can make it legal in the future.
- 19:19I, I do believe that sports betting is going to become more
- 19:24legal as we move forward because it cannot not be you.
- 19:28You talk about Floyd Mayweather. I've talked about this many,
- 19:31many times. When he fought guys over the
- 19:34years, he propped bet he had other people propped, bet him on
- 19:37those fights. When is he going to knock him
- 19:39out? When is the rounds going to go?
- 19:4210 or 11 rounds, 12 rounds? He has done this many, many
- 19:46years. It's made millions and millions
- 19:47of dollars off of it. He's come out and said that on
- 19:50podcast for years. He's been doing it.
- 19:53Now, I don't know if Manny Pacquiao was doing it or even
- 19:55Canelo Alvarez. They don't have to.
- 19:57They're making millions and millions of dollars like Floyd.
- 19:59But when you become greedy. And a lot of these young players
- 20:02become that they're finding or trying to figure out ways where
- 20:06they can figure, configure ways they can bring in more value in
- 20:10their game, more value to their money.
- 20:13If you're making 1.5 million and you're using 500,000 of that
- 20:18money into prop betting in sports and doubling that, you're
- 20:22doubling your money every single season.
- 20:25And that's what Jonte was doing and that's what a lot of these
- 20:27guys are looking at it. Now you have these NFL football
- 20:31players, these future NFL football players.
- 20:33How about these college kids now with the NIL deals, they're
- 20:36making money, but are they making enough?
- 20:39If they look at prop betting, you know, college sports,
- 20:41college sports is one of the biggest in all of sports and
- 20:45different games and and many different possibilities.
- 20:47The Mafia has been doing it forever, forever.
- 20:51The Mafia has been prop betting forever in sports.
- 20:55This isn't this isn't new. And that's how if anybody's seen
- 20:59Goodfellas, why those guys really were were convicted of
- 21:04all the stuff they were convicted for.
- 21:06It was not stealing or killing or robbing people or even drugs.
- 21:12It was it was really betting on sports is what throw those got
- 21:16those guys thrown into jail. And again, it's becoming more
- 21:21legalized around the world. What was it 10 years ago was
- 21:25legalized in what, 1-2 states? Three states?
- 21:28Now it's legalized in how many states?
- 21:303040 states. Eventually it's going to be in
- 21:34all the states. So how are you going to keep
- 21:37these players from betting on sports?
- 21:40And that's what Michael Porter is coming out and pretty much
- 21:42saying in his briefing on this podcast is there's no way of
- 21:46stopping these guys for betting on sports.
- 21:50There is no way. Now obviously you can configure
- 21:53ways that it'll make sense where these guys will be less in
- 21:57trouble or not be caused, won't be caused a ruckus all over the
- 22:02news. But again, Ohtani over over the
- 22:05last couple of years has been getting away with it.
- 22:09And again, the FBI was paid off by the MLB.
- 22:13Now I don't know that for sure. And that's my accusations and
- 22:16that's what I think. But again, you can't keep these
- 22:21players from not finding ways to make money playing professional
- 22:25sports or betting on professional sports or college
- 22:28sports or any sport. Now, the eating contest that
- 22:32happened recently, the hot dog contest, how many people had
- 22:36prop bets on that? I mean, we said it on our show
- 22:40that we thought, what's his name again?
- 22:42Joey Chestnut. Joey Chestnut was going to have,
- 22:44I think job at 62. I had 6664.
- 22:48Whatever, whatever, whatever their numbers were.
- 22:50We proppetted how many hot dogs the guy was going to eat.
- 22:54OK. Do you think we're the only ones
- 22:56that were doing that? Everybody was doing it because
- 23:00it's now eating is a sport. Eating beans is a sport.
- 23:04Taking a dump will probably be a sport eventually.
- 23:06How many dumps you have every single day?
- 23:08It's it's everybody is betting on things now.
- 23:12You can't keep these guys or girls or anybody, kids that are
- 23:16over 18 from betting on anything and now.
- 23:20My my son just told me he bets and.
- 23:23Everybody does. Everybody does, yeah.
- 23:27Amongst each other, yeah. But then like, now how?
- 23:31I guess just the way it's been capitalized, like it's in every
- 23:35corner where you can bet. I mean, it's just not, you know,
- 23:38bookies anymore. It's, you know, where it's
- 23:40legal. Nebraska will probably be the
- 23:42one of the last places that we actually, you know, it becomes
- 23:45legal for sports betting. I mean, you can literally go 50
- 23:49minutes in Iowa and it's technically legal.
- 23:51But yeah, I mean, it's like you said, if you're over 18, there's
- 23:54there's every which way from Sunday that you can freaking bet
- 23:58on anything, Jabba. Now it's like you can bet in gas
- 24:02stations. These kids are born from
- 24:05nothing. They come from families with
- 24:06nothing. All of a sudden they go play
- 24:08Division One basketball, Division One football, Division
- 24:11One hockey or baseball and they're getting NIL deals.
- 24:15They're making six or 10s of thousands of dollars.
- 24:17I said 6000, but 10s of thousands of dollars.
- 24:20Some of them are making millions of dollars and they're, they're
- 24:24not all about buying Corvettes because all they got to do is
- 24:27make one prop bet in a game. And they could, they could bet
- 24:31$500,000 on that prop bet and double their money and they'll,
- 24:34oh, there's, there's my Corvette or there's my Lamborghini or
- 24:38there's my Hummer, you know, you know, souped up or whatever the
- 24:41hell you want. I mean, this is the way it's
- 24:44going to go for now and forever. These kids are going to make
- 24:48more and more money. Do you think a lot of them too,
- 24:51like the way they're they're getting away with it too is if
- 24:54they're smart, is having somebody else do it like not
- 24:57share an account like we've seen with with different guys where
- 25:01they actually it's like, hey, you know what, take this bed.
- 25:04It's not like he creates the account and maybe, you know,
- 25:07he's getting some nil money or what have you.
- 25:10But where he's like, OK, I'll give you 1000 bucks, bet on this
- 25:14to where it doesn't come back to him legally.
- 25:17His buddy could try and rat him out, but if he's giving him
- 25:19cash, there's no way for him to like, well, you dimed me out,
- 25:23but I was giving you cash. How are you ever going to know?
- 25:26And I, I agree there were opportunities for me in college
- 25:30where it's like, Hey, can you give up three runs?
- 25:32I was like, obviously I didn't do it, but it's like, what do I
- 25:36throw the ball down the middle? He still could miss it.
- 25:38And then you get in a bad spot with some people.
- 25:41And we've, we've seen that happen too.
- 25:42So I, it's, it's not going to stop.
- 25:45It's only, you know, it's like the tip of the iceberg, right?
- 25:48You only see so much of it and so it'll it'll be interesting to
- 25:51see if it comes out in certain waves of either legal or
- 25:57illegal, like you got a book your offshore or whatever.
- 26:01Remember when I was in college, so 20 years ago, it was like big
- 26:05with Texas holdem, you know, get in the room and you'd play and
- 26:08it'd be like, Hey, you can make 650 bucks and it goes into your
- 26:11account and you're like, holy cow, like I'm gambling online
- 26:14like this is the coolest thing ever.
- 26:15Now it's like, oh, you can bet on anything.
- 26:18What color is the Gatorade? When they win, are they going to
- 26:20show, you know, Taylor Swift or whoever, how many times?
- 26:24I mean, you literally can bet on everything if you go through.
- 26:27And I'm surprised our guest Ariel the prop queen, hasn't
- 26:31made, like, some crazy sheets of like, ridiculous.
- 26:35Craziest thing she's ever bet on.
- 26:37Right, yeah, that that would yeah, that would be interesting.
- 26:39Like and, and some of the prop bets that you do throughout the
- 26:42and, and I'm as guilty as the next person because I I love
- 26:45betting prop bets because it makes it fun.
- 26:47Like the national anthem. I do the coin toss every year,
- 26:50like, you know, just ones that are just fun to do and it's just
- 26:55I I think it's going to be. But you presented a great
- 26:58questionnaire. I was like, how do you find that
- 27:02balance of? Like, OK, you're going to do it.
- 27:04We know. Where do you find the balance
- 27:06of? Have you ever seen the movie
- 27:08Blue Chips? Yeah.
- 27:10All right, so everybody's seen the movie Blue Chips and it.
- 27:13It's a great movie. Anthony Hardaway's in it.
- 27:15Shaquille O'neal's in it. And this is when they were
- 27:18pretty much starting to become NBA players, and they were
- 27:22trying to figure out a movie that betting would really stick
- 27:25out from sports. That movie really stands for
- 27:29what betting is starting to transform in not professional
- 27:32sports, but college sports. And it shows you that in the
- 27:3590s, this has been going on for a very, very long time illegally
- 27:39now, coaches were paying players to come to their school under
- 27:43the table. Now coaches can pay them over
- 27:45the table and everybody knows that they're paying these guys
- 27:48to come to their schools. What is the difference between
- 27:52paying a player to come and play for you or betting on a game or
- 27:56betting on a sport while you know, it's the same freaking
- 28:00thing. It's it's the same thing in my
- 28:02eyes when it comes to obviously it's become more legalized when
- 28:07it comes to going after players and NI L deals and everything
- 28:10like that. Now you're talking about sports
- 28:12betting. When is it?
- 28:13When is it going to change where you're going to see that where
- 28:16where you're going to be able to bet on sports?
- 28:18It doesn't matter if you're playing or not playing it.
- 28:20It's blue chips. Was it as a movie for basketball
- 28:24where obviously players were coming and we're getting paid
- 28:28off to come to play for their school and and picking schools.
- 28:31Now you're talking about movies that we're going to see for the
- 28:34future where you're going to find out that this has been
- 28:37going on a lot longer than you you have thought when it comes
- 28:41to college and professional sports.
- 28:43I'm trying to remember a movie that really stands out from me
- 28:46where you can remember about betting, sports betting, and I'm
- 28:51still trying to figure it out. I know there was a movie with
- 28:54Matthew McConaughey and Al Pacino.
- 28:56What was that movie called? Bias Buyers Club.
- 28:58No, it wasn't buyers. Club he was.
- 29:01So Matthew McConaughey was a former football player, he was a
- 29:04quarterback. He gets hurt and I think more
- 29:07for the money is something something for the money.
- 29:10I I I don't remember Al Pacino was a betting he he ran a
- 29:14betting scam and he invites. Was it true for the money?
- 29:17No, for for the love of the money for the love of the money.
- 29:21And Matthew McConaughey was working.
- 29:23He was he was doing some kind of thing.
- 29:26He was driving different things or I don't remember the exact
- 29:29thing. He was riding his bike around
- 29:31and he was working. And so somebody asked him,
- 29:33somebody didn't show up to work and he asked him to do some prop
- 29:36bets for and, and I'm reading, I'm reading what Jabba's putting
- 29:40over there. But no, so he was doing prop
- 29:44bets and, and then obviously Al Pacino, he ran, he ran some
- 29:48sports betting organization. So what he did was he reached
- 29:51out to Matthew McConaughey. He called him up and then he,
- 29:55he, he put something in his drawer, had somebody put
- 29:57something in his drawer and told him, how much do you want?
- 29:59So he actually flew to New York and then he gave him an offer
- 30:04that he couldn't refuse, gave him a a big bungalow and and a
- 30:08beautiful new car. New soon changed his name and he
- 30:11he became something that you would never, he would have never
- 30:14thought he was going to be. How could you guys never seen
- 30:17that movie? That movie was a great movie and
- 30:20I'm trying to again. I, I, it was a while ago that I
- 30:23saw the movie. When was it out?
- 30:25It happened. In 2000, early 2000, mid 2000s
- 30:28it it came 2005. Yeah, and it's a good movie.
- 30:32It was a really, really. Oh yeah, Yeah, yeah.
- 30:34Yeah, I mean 2 for the money, Tommy.
- 30:35Scoops was right 2005 the other gambling movie.
- 30:39I think you were referencing the rounders.
- 30:41There's the color of money. I'm saying like sports gambling.
- 30:45Obviously rounders poker movie is like unmatched in my opinion.
- 30:48No, I'm just thinking. Thinking of sports gambling
- 30:50movies that yeah, 2 for the money was the one that suck and
- 30:53that's a true story yeah, that was when.
- 30:55McConaughey was trying like he ended up like getting his chick
- 30:58cuz the chick was older and he was like working under Pacino
- 31:01that Sandler. Movie was great too.
- 31:03The Uncut Gems, where he's the degenerate gambler.
- 31:07Yeah, he was Kevin Garnett. Yeah, but the the movie.
- 31:09That really is true for the money was the movie that really
- 31:12stood out to me because obviously Matthew, I have now
- 31:15now that. I looked it up.
- 31:16I have. That was a really good movie.
- 31:18Yeah. Al Pacino was great in the movie
- 31:20and obviously it was there were so many ups and downs in the
- 31:24movie and then he he was this like he hit on every single one
- 31:27of his bats. He was like at 78% and all of a
- 31:29sudden he he asked Pacino for more money and then everything
- 31:33started falling off for him. He started losing and then they
- 31:37were working with mafia guys and then the mafia was after him.
- 31:40And then obviously eventually he had to get away from it.
- 31:43He made one prop bet and thank God he won.
- 31:46And, and then he ran away, went back home and he became a
- 31:49football coach. But why am I bringing it up?
- 31:51Because this has been going on for a very, very long time.
- 31:54Prop betting and all that other stuff has been going on a very,
- 31:56very long time. But now that has become
- 31:58legalized all over the country. You really can't stop it
- 32:02anymore. Michael Porter saying that on
- 32:04the on the Steinie podcast, he's saying that there's no way of
- 32:07stopping this. This is going to continuously
- 32:09keep getting worse. Players and young kids are going
- 32:12to do this because they come from nothing.
- 32:15And that's just the way it works.
- 32:17You can argue this all you want, but it's only going to get
- 32:21worse. Now what is the NBA going to do?
- 32:23Are they going to find these guys or suspend these guys for
- 32:25life forever? If it wasn't John Day, it was
- 32:28LeBron James or Giannis or any one of those guys.
- 32:30They get suspended for 50 games and they come back.
- 32:33John Days are nobody, nobody cares.
- 32:35The NBA wants to make a statement.
- 32:37Adam Silva wants to make a, you know, make a what do they call
- 32:40that they make? Use them as an example, an.
- 32:42Example out of. Them, so they said, you know
- 32:44what we're going to do? We're going to do this to him.
- 32:47We're going to suspend a full life.
- 32:49And now it's they're going to stop NBA players from doing
- 32:51this. Not necessarily because NBA
- 32:54players are just going to find other ways to scheme it.
- 32:56Like Jabba was saying, they're going to use their friends,
- 32:59they're going to use their cousins, their aunts, their
- 33:01uncles to make those bets, athletes and other sports.
- 33:04And they're. Still going to get those bets in
- 33:07and they're still going to get away with it.
- 33:08And this is, again, Floyd Mayweather's been doing it
- 33:12forever. He's admitted it.
- 33:14He's admitted it. So, so if he's saying that he's
- 33:18been doing, by the way, on the Conor McGregor fight, he put
- 33:22$3,000,000 on himself that he was going to knock Connor out in
- 33:27the 10th or 11th round, which he did.
- 33:28By the way, he TKO Connor in a 10th or 11th round because he
- 33:31broke his orbited bone, his eye socket.
- 33:34And that's why Connor hasn't really fought really since that
- 33:38fight. And it's a funny story is he put
- 33:41$3,000,000 down. He admitted to it and cut Drupal
- 33:44to his money like a Drupal just take, you put $3,000,000 down,
- 33:48what are you going to get on that bet?
- 33:49You're betting 11th round knockout, knockdown or TKL,
- 33:53you're probably going to bring in about 20, five, $30 million.
- 33:56And by the way, in that fight he wore shorts that paid him $50
- 34:01million I think. I think that was the number 50
- 34:03to $30 million he made just wearing some organization shorts
- 34:07for that fight. But what I'm saying is when
- 34:09you're making that kind of money or you're bringing in that kind
- 34:12of money, no matter what professional sport or college
- 34:15sport you're making and you've never seen that money, you'll
- 34:17want to double it. You want to find ways that you
- 34:19can help your families out or you have your friends out and
- 34:22you're going to go and you're going to put that money where
- 34:24it's going to make you more money or lose all your money.
- 34:27And as we all know, Antoine Walker, another guy that has
- 34:31made millions and millions of dollars and now is one of the
- 34:34brokest and ex NBA players we've ever Vince.
- 34:37Vin Baker. Remember Vin Baker played from
- 34:40Milwaukee, played for the Knicks five time All Star.
- 34:43I saw him. I I actually saw him at
- 34:46Starbucks in Connecticut. He was the manager in Starbucks.
- 34:48Mikey C will tell you that story.
- 34:50I knew it was Vin Baker. Mike was like, that's no way, no
- 34:53way in hell that's Vin Baker. And I said, that's Vin Baker.
- 34:56And I pulled him outside and I said, are you Vin Baker?
- 34:58And he smiled at me and told me, yeah, I have a picture of it, so
- 35:02it's not a lie. And Vin Baker went broke because
- 35:05of drinking and because of gambling.
- 35:08So again, would you say though in that sport?
- 35:11Would you would. I'm just, yeah, spitballing
- 35:14here. If OK, say you went as
- 35:17commissioner or you create a committee or what have you,
- 35:20right. Would you be like, OK, you can
- 35:23sports bet, just not on your own sport.
- 35:27Like do you think that would ever get legs or they have to
- 35:30get that kind? Of thing, because you could
- 35:31still have connections in other sports too.
- 35:33Like if you're a football player that grew up with a guy that's
- 35:37also in MLB and he's a pitcher and you're saying, OK, should I
- 35:40bet? Use use.
- 35:41Stafford and Kershaw for that, right?
- 35:42So let's say so. Stafford is the example like
- 35:45let's say Clayton Kershaw, how many outs you're going to get in
- 35:47a game? What's your out prop?
- 35:48You could still bet the under if Clayton says, oh, Dave said I'm
- 35:51only going to be an opener for today, I'm only going to be
- 35:53that. Like there's still information
- 35:55that can be it. So you probably have to regulate
- 35:56that a little differently in order to do that obviously in
- 35:59your own sports even tighter because you're tight with a lot
- 36:01of see this is what we're. Talking about right now, this is
- 36:03what we're talking about. There's nothing to talk about
- 36:05when it comes to sports. So we're talking about Mark
- 36:08Steinie. It's not Mark Steiner.
- 36:12I was wrong. It's just some, I guess he's an
- 36:14Instagram influencer of some sort, some guy who looks like
- 36:18Speedy's age or younger to that's has a podcast, whatever
- 36:22his part. Is that we're talking about this
- 36:23guy one night with Steinies podcast and we're talking and
- 36:28and we're talking about Michael Porter junior talking about
- 36:31sports betting because there's nothing going on in sports right
- 36:33now and that's just the way it is.
- 36:35Look, they don't have to. Regulate though like Speedy
- 36:37saying Speedy, they don't have to do that.
- 36:39The casinos are not going to allow this to happen.
- 36:43We've already seen it. Class A threw 6 pitches in the
- 36:46dirt. Those guys weren't paid off on
- 36:48those prop bets. No, there's been a way where
- 36:51those guys paid off by the casinos.
- 36:54They're not going to allow this to happen.
- 36:55They're going to alert everybody immediately because they're not
- 36:59going to take a loss. So it's almost a self policing
- 37:02system against it. So you're going to have, you're
- 37:04going to see people just get good at it, right?
- 37:06You're not going to dirt 6 pitches in a row.
- 37:09You're going to find a bet that's easy to manipulate that
- 37:12won't affect the outcome of the game other than, you know, I
- 37:17don't know, you could say like you have an over under, you
- 37:20know, 2 1/2 walks in the game as a pitcher, starting pitcher,
- 37:24very easy to walk a guy, you know, I mean, it's going to be.
- 37:28Stuff like that. I'm I'm a little thrown.
- 37:30Off with this because again, I think that obviously becoming,
- 37:35you know, sports betting becoming such a popular thing
- 37:38around the world because it's become legalized that you, if
- 37:42you're a professional athlete, you should be allowed to bet on
- 37:45sports, maybe not your own game. If you want to bet on anything
- 37:48else besides your own game, you should be allowed to if you know
- 37:51about the NBA. Now I I understand the referees
- 37:54know more about those games and more of the inside stuff in
- 37:58specific games. And some of these players are
- 38:00very connected with these referees, friends with these
- 38:03referees. I understand that.
- 38:05But you can't hide this. You can't control sports
- 38:09betting. It's just it.
- 38:10To me, the value of it and the money that it's bringing in is
- 38:15not only helping professional sports grow, it's giving owners
- 38:19and players more value to their game.
- 38:23So I under that's what Michael Porter is pretty much saying.
- 38:27You can't keep the players from doing it.
- 38:29They come from nothing. They're they've been doing it
- 38:32forever. I mean, high school, you're
- 38:34playing these young kids were playing fantasy sports.
- 38:36Is that not gambling? Honestly, that's gambling.
- 38:40It's just another way of calling it gambling.
- 38:42It's been legalized. Fantasy sports has been going on
- 38:46forever since I was in high school.
- 38:48It started with the NFL and the Major League has been around
- 38:51since really the the 90s, we had fantasy baseball going on.
- 38:56You're going to tell me that's not sports betting?
- 38:59Of course it's sports betting. If you're putting money down on
- 39:04a game that you're picking players to to play in and
- 39:07they're hitting home runs or they're getting, they're walking
- 39:115-6 times, you're making money off of it.
- 39:14That's betting. That's sports betting.
- 39:16So how is that that's legalized? But you betting on your own
- 39:20sport, not your game, your own game, but your own sport in a
- 39:24particular game of the week. It's not legalized.
- 39:28It's not, it's not to me valued by the NBA to allow it to have
- 39:32to allow it to be kosher. I guess I well I'm just there is
- 39:38a solution. Errol and it's been put out
- 39:40there and it would hurt the business of a great guest.
- 39:42We had Ariel Epstein. It's get rid of the prophets.
- 39:46The prophets are not how they're manipulating it.
- 39:48Well, they can. They weren't.
- 39:50They haven't been around forever.
- 39:51They really haven't. So I think that they're First
- 39:55off the live prophets that can go.
- 39:58They could definitely stop the live prophets.
- 40:02But as far as some of these prop bets where it's like the 11th
- 40:05man on the roster type of things with like the Jonte Porter or
- 40:09guy who just made in the rotation you're betting on.
- 40:12If he's going to get a combination of 9 1/2 points,
- 40:16blocks and rebounds in a game. And the guy's like, Oh yeah, bet
- 40:19the under, I'm going to pretend I'm hurt in the third minute of
- 40:22the game, which is what he did at that's that's how they made
- 40:26money. But the casino soft right
- 40:27through it. You can't.
- 40:29You're not going to be able to get away with this stuff.
- 40:31You're going to tell me to bet? You're going to tell me the
- 40:32casinos don't know what's going to happen?
- 40:34How do they know? How are they 65% or 66% of the
- 40:39time, right? Of course they know what's going
- 40:41on. They have an inside source if
- 40:43something is. Fishy, right, because they know
- 40:45they're supposed to be that percent right?
- 40:47They look into it immediately. Everyone's who works there's job
- 40:51depends on it that they have to find out why there's this
- 40:55abnormality and sometimes it's huge fraud as we're finding out.
- 41:00It's pretty crazy. I, I guess do you think it's
- 41:02just going to get worse like Porter says?
- 41:04Because I think it's more. Often I think it's already worse
- 41:08and I think it's only going to get worse because these young
- 41:12kids that what happened worse, Worse how?
- 41:14Like in in what context? College Sports.
- 41:17Everybody keeps talking about professional sports.
- 41:18I think college sports is what we're going to be watching
- 41:21because these kids, they're 18 years old, they don't know what
- 41:24to do with their money. They're getting now these NIL
- 41:27deals, they're getting significant amount of money
- 41:30through sponsorships and advertisers and they don't know
- 41:32what to do with it. So what are they going to do
- 41:34with it? They could go out drinking, they
- 41:36could buy their buddies cars. No, they want to double that
- 41:39money. They want to make more money on
- 41:41it. So what are they going to do?
- 41:42They're going to look at the college game or they're going to
- 41:44look at their own game and say, hey, listen, I can make a prop
- 41:46bet on myself. If I if I'm 50% of my throwing
- 41:51each game and I could bet 50% of the time that I'm going to make
- 41:55most of my throws, I'm going to win myself a significant amount
- 41:59of money. You can't stop this.
- 42:00Maybe Fish is right. Maybe stopping prop bets would
- 42:03work. I just don't know if they're
- 42:05going to allow it because it's bringing them in so much money.
- 42:09Now I'm making, all right, let's say it's an NBA player and he's
- 42:12doing it. That's one bet to how many bets?
- 42:16200,000 bets. So obviously the NCAA has a guy
- 42:21or a kid making one prop bet and he brings in $200,000 off of his
- 42:27$25,000 and then they're making. Vegas is making out of 200 bets,
- 42:35millions and millions of dollars.
- 42:36Why are they crying about the $200,000 that they lost?
- 42:40That's what I'm saying. I mean, you can't have one and
- 42:44not the other. So I I understand why Vegas is
- 42:48upset about. I understand why betting has
- 42:51been such a problem when it comes to obviously what's going
- 42:56on not only in the NBA, the NFL, the NCAA and the NHL and all
- 43:01professional sports, even tennis.
- 43:03I mean, the prop bats with tennis guys hitting over 100 on
- 43:06their serve, betting on, hitting on.
- 43:08You can bet on anything now, anything.
- 43:12That's the crazy thing and that's why I think Michael
- 43:16Porter saying it's going to get worse.
- 43:17So why even argue it? Find a way where you can make it
- 43:21fair for the athletes or the betting man to go out there and
- 43:26place a prop bet or a bet on a specific sports game.
- 43:31That's my opinion on it. I don't think any argument to
- 43:34that, and that's why we're trying to find stories to talk
- 43:36about. It's a big story because Michael
- 43:38Porter came out to protect his brother.
- 43:40Dante is going to never play NBA basketball again.
- 43:43He's going to have to go overseas and overseas to make
- 43:46money. If Japan or or any one of these,
- 43:51Louis, what is it, Lithuania or Spain or Portugal allows him to
- 43:57play? I heard Croatia.
- 43:59Is a very big sports betting country so maybe there's
- 44:01something like that or anything in that region that allows it
- 44:03has more lenient and here's another.
- 44:05Thing In Europe, sports betting is big when it comes to your
- 44:09European football. I'm telling you right now,
- 44:13there's so much money when it comes to soccer, as we call
- 44:17soccer, they call European football.
- 44:19It is huge over there in England.
- 44:21It's always been Australia and all the big countries out there
- 44:25because soccer over there is king.
- 44:28It's the biggest sport in the world.
- 44:30You don't think that overseas they're not bringing in a
- 44:33significant amount of money or these news professional soccer
- 44:36players aren't betting on themselves or their their
- 44:38friends playing on those specific game in those specific
- 44:41games because you're Ronaldo's telling me they're going to.
- 44:44He scored and he's averaging about a goal and a half against
- 44:48that goalie. He's going to put in two goals
- 44:50in that game and he's not putting a prop bet on it.
- 44:53Come on, guys, it's been going on a long time.
- 44:56Anyways, that's it for our show, ladies and gentlemen.
