Latest / Mental Per4mance Daily with Adam Rutz / Move With Urgency, Not Panic
Transcript
- Adam Rutz: There's a big difference between moving with urgency and moving in a panic. And understanding that difference can completely change the way you perform under pressure. Imagine a basketball team. They're down by three points, 40 seconds left in the game. Crowds going crazy, clocks ticking, and everybody knows what's at stake. Now, what happens if that team starts panicking? They're gonna rush shots, make careless passes. Force opportunities that aren't there. But watch a great point guard in that situation. They're communicating, getting everybody organized. They're looking for the best opportunity to execute. The pressure hasn't changed. What's changed is how they're responding to it. And that's something I want you to recognize in your own life. Because whether you're dealing with a difficult situation at work, raising children, managing your finances, or trying to meet an important deadline, whatever it is. There are going to be moments when everything feels urgent. But just because something requires immediate attention doesn't mean it requires an emotional reaction. In fact, the more pressure you're under, the more important your decision making becomes. And one of the biggest mistakes people make is confusing being busy with being effective. They're moving 100 miles an hour, reacting to everything around them. But they're not actually making the situation any better. So, how do we change that? Start by slowing down your thinking, not necessarily your actions. Take one big deep breath. Identify what actually matters most in that moment. And then commit to the next productive action. You might still need to move quickly. You might still have a difficult decision you have to make, but now you're acting with. Purpose instead of reacting out of emotion. And that's the challenge I have for you today. The next time that things start moving faster than you'd like, don't allow the situation to dictate your mindset. Take control of your next decision. Because the best competitors aren't always the ones moving the fastest. They're the ones who can think clearly, make great decisions, and then execute when everybody else is starting to panic. Move with urgency. Think with clarity, execute with purpose. Mindset, process, discipline, execution, that's mental performance daily.
