- 0:17Speaker 1: Welcome into dag Dam. I'm Kindannie Stevens, Brian Sexton, and
- 0:19Speaker 1: John Oser are with me today as we get ready
- 0:21Speaker 1: to talk to you about Titanking Jaguars matchup on Sunday.
- 0:24Speaker 1: But first of all, I want to wish you a
- 0:25Speaker 1: happy holiday. Hope you had a merry Christmas and happy
- 0:27Speaker 1: Honkah for those who celebrate. We're gonna start with a
- 0:29Speaker 1: big thing, number one, which is reality. I spent a
- 0:31Speaker 1: lot of my holiday watching basketball and football, and I
- 0:34Speaker 1: think watching that Texan game, Brian, we've talked a ton
- 0:37Speaker 1: about this being a missed opportunity for this division, but
- 0:40Speaker 1: just being what the Texans have done this year, and
- 0:42Speaker 1: this being that missed opportunity is out of takeaway you
- 0:44Speaker 1: had as well.
- 0:45Speaker 2: Well it was, and I think I mentioned it last
- 0:47Speaker 2: week on our Hot Takes on Thursday. I think this
- 0:49Speaker 2: can be a quick turnaround for the Jaguars because I
- 0:52Speaker 2: don't think the Texans are that good now.
- 0:53Speaker 3: Listen, They've got some really good.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Players and they made plays and won close games this year,
- 0:58Speaker 2: including two against the Jaguars. But I didn't think and
- 1:02Speaker 2: their result yesterday against the Baltimore Ravens didn't show a
- 1:06Speaker 2: team that's head and shoulders better than the rest of
- 1:08Speaker 2: the AFC South, Not like when Peyton Manning was the
- 1:11Speaker 2: quarterback of the Colts and John was covering them. It's
- 1:13Speaker 2: a completely different deal. I think the Jaguars, if they
- 1:17Speaker 2: do some right things, and we can debate what those
- 1:20Speaker 2: right things are, kai but if they do some things well,
- 1:24Speaker 2: they've got pieces here that they can quickly turn this around.
- 1:28Speaker 3: And I think yesterday's game showed that.
- 1:30Speaker 4: Yeah, if a few things had gone right for the Jags.
- 1:33Speaker 4: You know, they've lost so many close games, which to
- 1:35Speaker 4: me means you're a bad team. But being a bad
- 1:38Speaker 4: team doesn't necessarily mean you're that far away from getting
- 1:41Speaker 4: it right. They have pieces, Yes, if they do the things,
- 1:47Speaker 4: If they have the kind of turnaround they did in
- 1:50Speaker 4: twenty twenty two, the Texans are gettable. But you know,
- 1:54Speaker 4: when you're three and twelve, I'm not gonna sit there
- 1:55Speaker 4: and talk about.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Winning the division.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's fair. It's got a big thing
- 1:58Speaker 1: Number two, which is holiday. Wish a lot about the
- 2:00Speaker 1: Holidays game yesterday, and I'm gonna talk a little bit
- 2:03Speaker 1: about us coming back and reinventing the team a little
- 2:06Speaker 1: bit next year. So as far as a holiday wish, John,
- 2:09Speaker 1: if you could only fix one thing right now, what's
- 2:11Speaker 1: the most important thing for this team to fix?
- 2:13Speaker 4: Well, do I get to choose either the defensive interior
- 2:17Speaker 4: or the offensive interior. And by the offensive interior, those
- 2:21Speaker 4: guys have passed blocked well this year. But I guess
- 2:25Speaker 4: I would change the fact that this team on either
- 2:29Speaker 4: side of the ball doesn't feel like it can get
- 2:32Speaker 4: a big stop or get a big fourth and one
- 2:34Speaker 4: way that matters. That's not every play They've gotten some,
- 2:37Speaker 4: but just overall, Brian, there's a stoutness and a toughness
- 2:42Speaker 4: that they talked about last off season getting and to me,
- 2:47Speaker 4: that still sort of defines too much. Can I have
- 2:51Speaker 4: the secondary too well?
- 2:53Speaker 3: You just do mine two things.
- 2:57Speaker 2: First of all, they just have to be better in
- 3:00Speaker 2: the middle of both lines. I mean, Mitch Morse came
- 3:02Speaker 2: in and he brought them more stoutness. But they're still
- 3:06Speaker 2: not that good when you want to run the ball,
- 3:08Speaker 2: and we saw that last week in Las Vegas. They
- 3:11Speaker 2: just don't. They can't not between the tackles. Occasionally they can,
- 3:15Speaker 2: they can't exert their will on offense and on defense.
- 3:18Speaker 2: I get pushed around too much up front. So from
- 3:20Speaker 2: the toughness perspective, that's there. But as I was thinking
- 3:23Speaker 2: about your question, Kai, this is esoteric. I mean, I
- 3:25Speaker 2: can't put my finger on it and give you seven
- 3:27Speaker 2: different things. But the culture in this building is just
- 3:32Speaker 2: not the same as the culture that you have in
- 3:34Speaker 2: a place with a winning tradition. You've been in New England.
- 3:37Speaker 2: You know that John was in Indianapolis when they were
- 3:40Speaker 2: winning every week. This place doesn't have that winning culture.
- 3:44Speaker 2: And you can talk about it coming from the general manager,
- 3:47Speaker 2: from the coach, or from the owner, but it.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Comes from the players.
- 3:50Speaker 2: And we've just seen too many times this year this
- 3:53Speaker 2: team get beat by the little details. The things that
- 3:57Speaker 2: great teams do. Doesn't look to me like the Jaguar
- 4:00Speaker 2: do that. Whether that's extra time in the film room
- 4:03Speaker 2: or more time in the weight room, or it's got
- 4:06Speaker 2: to come from the players. The culture is set by
- 4:08Speaker 2: the guys on the field, and I want to see
- 4:11Speaker 2: a legitimate winning culture in this building, and I think
- 4:15Speaker 2: that comes from doing more.
- 4:17Speaker 3: That's just a perspective.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Culture definitely sets the tones. So I agree with you there.
- 4:21Speaker 1: Our final big thing today is going to be rivalry.
- 4:23Speaker 1: We'll talk a little bit about this week, the Titans
- 4:25Speaker 1: are coming to town. This the second time Jaguars are
- 4:27Speaker 1: going to play them this month. Now, Brian, we talked
- 4:30Speaker 1: a lot about the rivalry. I feel like some of
- 4:32Speaker 1: the rivalry energy has been put on the Texans lately.
- 4:35Speaker 1: But will it always be the Titans no matter what,
- 4:37Speaker 1: even in the down years.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Well, listen for those of us who are here in
- 4:40Speaker 2: the early days, I mean, the Titans were the oilers
- 4:42Speaker 2: and they came in here and spoiled the Jaguars inaugural
- 4:45Speaker 2: game ten to three. You look a little bit further
- 4:47Speaker 2: into it, in the nineteen ninety eight, the Jaguars had
- 4:50Speaker 2: the chance to win their first AFC South Division title
- 4:53Speaker 2: here in December. Titans spoiled that one. A year later,
- 4:56Speaker 2: Jaguars host the AFC Championship game of Titans at that
- 5:00Speaker 2: point spoil that. And then through the years there's been
- 5:03Speaker 2: the rivalry with you know, Jeff Fisher, and it just
- 5:07Speaker 2: this is the rivalry. I don't care whether they don't,
- 5:10Speaker 2: I don't care what the record is. I always want
- 5:11Speaker 2: to beat the Titans, and the Titans John have always
- 5:13Speaker 2: seemed whether they were the Oilers of the Titans, to
- 5:16Speaker 2: have the upper hand. I mean they have, but Doug
- 5:19Speaker 2: Peterson is four and one in five games against the Titans,
- 5:23Speaker 2: and I like that. And the Jaguars have finally kind
- 5:25Speaker 2: of narrowed the gap between wins and losses to under
- 5:29Speaker 2: double digits. So, yes, this is a rivalry game. It
- 5:32Speaker 2: will always be the rivalry as far as I'm concerned,
- 5:35Speaker 2: and I want to see them win.
- 5:37Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean it's there are fans who write me
- 5:41Speaker 4: and I always wanted for a little tongue in cheek,
- 5:43Speaker 4: but they say that they'd rather beat the Titans than
- 5:46Speaker 4: do anything else. So there is a hatred and arrival.
- 5:49Speaker 3: Among some people.
- 5:51Speaker 4: It was cooler when you got the sweep, and the
- 5:54Speaker 4: sweep got you the division title. I mean that was
- 5:58Speaker 4: really a satisfying thing. When you knock them out of
- 6:01Speaker 4: the playoffs and sent them down, I guess the next
- 6:05Speaker 4: best thing is to sweep them to go four and twelve.
- 6:07Speaker 2: Yeah, this is not going to be one of those
- 6:09Speaker 2: super memorable games just because of the circumstances. But this
- 6:13Speaker 2: is the Titans and it is one of those games
- 6:16Speaker 2: that should matter to people, and you reignite it by
- 6:18Speaker 2: beating them.
- 6:19Speaker 1: Absolutely, stay with us after the break. We'll talk a
- 6:21Speaker 1: little bit about that Titans game. Well, what the brand
- 6:23Speaker 1: of town. Jag Xam brought to you by Field's Auto
- 6:28Speaker 1: Group Jackfield's premier luxury auto group had Overfield Auto dot Com.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Check them out. Welcome back into jag Zam today. We
- 6:36Speaker 1: do have a football game this Sunday, but last game
- 6:39Speaker 1: here in EverBank Stadium this season. So we're gonna talk
- 6:41Speaker 1: a little bit about the Titans. We played them already
- 6:43Speaker 1: this month, but things could look a little bit different.
- 6:46Speaker 1: Our head coach Brian Callian talked a little bit about
- 6:48Speaker 1: who's going to be a quarterback.
- 6:50Speaker 5: That's one of the things that Mason that's one of
- 6:51Speaker 5: his strengths. You know, he's got the ability to avoid
- 6:55Speaker 5: the negative play when it comes to sacks. He gets
- 6:57Speaker 5: the ball out, he gets you know's where to go
- 6:59Speaker 5: with it quickly. He's not taken many sacks this year
- 7:02Speaker 5: and it just you know, when you look at what
- 7:04Speaker 5: sacks do to drives, you know, over the course of
- 7:06Speaker 5: a season and the scoring percentages, when you take a
- 7:09Speaker 5: sack and a drive, it really does have an impact.
- 7:12Speaker 5: And that's one of the things that he does well.
- 7:13Speaker 5: It's one of the strengths is he finds completions and
- 7:15Speaker 5: he doesn't take sacks, so that does help us stay
- 7:18Speaker 5: on schedule.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Certainly, Mason rudolphs gonna be the starter in this game
- 7:22Speaker 1: versus the Jags. Will Levis was a starter last time
- 7:25Speaker 1: and he struggled making decisions, so I think if they
- 7:28Speaker 1: have a chance at this one, it's definitely gonna be
- 7:29Speaker 1: with Mason Rudolf.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Listen, the hard part for the Jaguars is that the
- 7:33Speaker 2: secondary has made mistakes against every quarterback. Will Levis couldn't
- 7:38Speaker 2: take advantage of it. Mason Rudolph will Now, Rudolph wasn't
- 7:41Speaker 2: really good last week. You know, he had those two
- 7:43Speaker 2: touchdown passes and he led them back against the Colts,
- 7:45Speaker 2: but he also had three interceptions. So I mean, we're
- 7:48Speaker 2: not talking about Ben Roethlisberger here, We're not talking about Joe.
- 7:51Speaker 3: Burrow or any elite quarterback.
- 7:53Speaker 2: But this secondary has made a lot of average quarterbacks
- 7:56Speaker 2: Aidan O'Connell look much better than they are because is
- 8:00Speaker 2: their inability john to just do their assignments.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Yeah, and you figure that when you're playing a backup quarterback,
- 8:06Speaker 4: and this has been true against Mac, that it's an
- 8:09Speaker 4: opportunity for interceptions. Even if you give up some plays,
- 8:13Speaker 4: you would think we we're gonna get some plays where
- 8:15Speaker 4: you get some picks.
- 8:16Speaker 3: The defense has seven takeaways.
- 8:18Speaker 4: I mean, that's an absurd number to have at this
- 8:21Speaker 4: point in the season, So you figure, can they get
- 8:26Speaker 4: advantage on the young quarterback, which is what you want.
- 8:29Speaker 2: I don't know what's absurd is they have those takeaways
- 8:32Speaker 2: right The last one was against the Vikings. They had
- 8:34Speaker 2: three in that game, so they had nothing up until
- 8:37Speaker 2: that point. It was an abundance that we thought, well,
- 8:38Speaker 2: maybe the whole turnovers coming bunches.
- 8:40Speaker 3: To five games.
- 8:41Speaker 4: Since, yeah, you almost have to try not to get
- 8:43Speaker 4: a turnover in five games.
- 8:45Speaker 2: By the way, the Chiefs have six straight games without
- 8:50Speaker 2: committing a turnover.
- 8:52Speaker 3: So just to give you, I guess that's what I'm trying.
- 8:55Speaker 2: To point out, is is that good teams don't have turnovers.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Bad teams don't get turnovers very well.
- 9:02Speaker 4: I'm not sure you thinking to be said.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Let's talk a little bit about last time they played.
- 9:07Speaker 1: We talked will Ebison's gonna be out on the field.
- 9:09Speaker 1: A lot of will Eps's issues were in the red
- 9:11Speaker 1: zone and that was a problem for them. Mason Rudolph
- 9:13Speaker 1: talked about converting in the red zone and what it's
- 9:16Speaker 1: going to take for them to score.
- 9:18Speaker 6: You know, there's there is some good there. That's that's
- 9:21Speaker 6: some improvement. And you know, I think you know, the
- 9:25Speaker 6: off schedule plays. We look at the the cut up
- 9:29Speaker 6: of red zone touchdowns each week as as a cute
- 9:31Speaker 6: quarterback room and I mean i'd say ninety percent or
- 9:34Speaker 6: you know, off schedule and and and scrambled drill type situation.
- 9:37Speaker 6: So we've Bohart agrees, done a good job, you know,
- 9:40Speaker 6: drilling us at that stuff and trying to simulate as
- 9:43Speaker 6: much as you can in practice.
- 9:46Speaker 1: The Titans have had trouble scoring in the red zone
- 9:48Speaker 1: when they have, though, it's been a little bit of
- 9:49Speaker 1: that off schedule stuff, scrambled drill kind of throwing it
- 9:51Speaker 1: up to people. And that's concerning considering the Jaguars propensity
- 9:55Speaker 1: to give up a big play. And especially I'll give
- 9:58Speaker 1: credit where it's due, they did well the first they
- 10:00Speaker 1: play the Titans, but that's got to still be a
- 10:01Speaker 1: concern this time around.
- 10:02Speaker 4: Right, they had huge stops last time against the Titans,
- 10:05Speaker 4: and you know, if you recall, they missed scoring in
- 10:11Speaker 4: the red zone twice. I think inside the ten twice. Otherwise,
- 10:14Speaker 4: that game's twenty to nothing when the Jaguars start their comeback,
- 10:17Speaker 4: and there probably isn't a comeback. So yeah, I mean,
- 10:20Speaker 4: if you can hold teams scoreless when they get in
- 10:23Speaker 4: the red zone, you're got a good shot. You can't
- 10:25Speaker 4: depend on that. That to me is going to be
- 10:28Speaker 4: the Titans key because I expected to move the ball.
- 10:31Speaker 4: If they can score in the red zone, I think
- 10:32Speaker 4: they win. And it was I don't think this week, Brian,
- 10:36Speaker 4: that they will go away from Tony Pollard as much
- 10:39Speaker 4: he's been their best player, and I don't think they'll
- 10:41Speaker 4: go away from.
- 10:42Speaker 3: It wasn't that opening drive. I thought, are the Jaguars
- 10:44Speaker 3: gonna be able to stop the run?
- 10:46Speaker 2: And then the Titans stopped running, which helped them.
- 10:50Speaker 3: As far as I'm.
- 10:50Speaker 2: Concerned, this is a game in which the Jaguars defensive
- 10:54Speaker 2: front has got to get to Mason Rudolph. And we've
- 10:58Speaker 2: said that all season long, just because the secondary hasn't
- 11:00Speaker 2: been very good. But jac Laitham, their rookie left tackle,
- 11:03Speaker 2: has given up thirteen sacks this year. That's the most
- 11:05Speaker 2: by any offensive tackle in football. It's been a rotation
- 11:08Speaker 2: at the right side, and they've had all kinds of
- 11:10Speaker 2: guys in and out of the lineup in the middle.
- 11:12Speaker 2: In fact, their starting center is on injured reserve. So
- 11:15Speaker 2: I mean this should be a game that the Jaguars
- 11:16Speaker 2: defensive line is able to make some hay and make
- 11:20Speaker 2: things happen. If it isn't, Mason Rudolph will pick them apart.
- 11:23Speaker 4: And I think we saw something last week that is
- 11:26Speaker 4: a sliver of positive for the future. Mason Smith got
- 11:33Speaker 4: some pressure in the middle, which the Trayvon Walker and
- 11:37Speaker 4: Josh Allen haven't had amazing numbers this year. Pressure in
- 11:41Speaker 4: the middle would help those guys immeasurably.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Maybe they can start building.
- 11:46Speaker 5: On that would be nice.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I like that, it's a good plan.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Mason Smith showed us in training camp. He's big, strong,
- 11:53Speaker 2: he's long, He's a very difficult.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Guy to match up with.
- 11:57Speaker 2: He just he hasn't had to know the tech niques
- 12:00Speaker 2: of the position because in college and in high school
- 12:02Speaker 2: he was just so much bigger and stronger than everyone else.
- 12:04Speaker 2: And Doug Peterson talked a little bit about this earlier
- 12:06Speaker 2: in the week, saying it's a tough position for guys
- 12:08Speaker 2: to learn to play well. It's a really important one
- 12:10Speaker 2: for him to finish strong, because.
- 12:12Speaker 3: Listen, this is as good an.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Area for the Jaguars to address in the draft next
- 12:16Speaker 2: year as any as the middle of that line.
- 12:18Speaker 3: Gotta know what you got.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Absolutely, we're gonna tell you what we think our predictions
- 12:23Speaker 1: for the headlines are gonna be on Monday after the game.

- 12:46Speaker 1: to Jagsam, and welcome to the future. We're gonna do
- 12:48Speaker 1: our best at predicting what we think the headlines will
- 12:50Speaker 1: be on Monday morning after this heavyweight bout of the
- 12:54Speaker 1: Titans and Jaguars seventeen sixteen seventy.
- 13:01Speaker 4: Seventeen.
- 13:01Speaker 3: Want to go, let's do it.
- 13:04Speaker 2: I'll go with twice as nice and you could say, well,
- 13:07Speaker 2: they beat the Titans twice, which would be the case, but.
- 13:10Speaker 3: They've only won at home once this year.
- 13:16Speaker 2: Really important to give the home crowd a reason to
- 13:19Speaker 2: come back winning certainly does that?
- 13:22Speaker 3: So listen, I get it.
- 13:24Speaker 2: You're probably playing without Walker Little, You're starting left tackle.
- 13:27Speaker 3: That doesn't help you against arden Key.
- 13:30Speaker 2: You were very good last week against Aiden O'Connell, so
- 13:34Speaker 2: you know, how are you gonna be better against Mason
- 13:35Speaker 2: Rudolpho thinks a better quarterback. But I just think the
- 13:38Speaker 2: Jaguars get it done in their season finale at home,
- 13:41Speaker 2: and the guy right here has another big day. He said,
- 13:43Speaker 2: back to back one hundred yard games, maybe he can
- 13:46Speaker 2: make it three in a row.
- 13:48Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:48Speaker 4: I went with sweep with a lot of exclamation points
- 13:53Speaker 4: because and my picture was Mac Daddy.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Yeah, Mac Jones.
- 13:58Speaker 4: Look, there's not gonna be a whole lot to salvage
- 14:03Speaker 4: this season, and Mac as a starter will not finished
- 14:08Speaker 4: with a winning record.
- 14:10Speaker 3: But he's a Jacksonville kid.
- 14:14Speaker 4: I sort of picture Max's guys in the stands who
- 14:18Speaker 4: grew up with and watching the Jags.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Having a couple of beers and going yeah with.
- 14:24Speaker 4: An expletive about the Titans, high five in each other.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Our boy led him to it a moment. I'm not
- 14:32Speaker 4: saying that's everything. I'm gon say it makes it a
- 14:34Speaker 4: successful season, but I think Mac would enjoy beating the Titans.
- 14:38Speaker 4: He's a Jacksonville kid. He sort of knows the history
- 14:40Speaker 4: of it. It'd be cool for him if he got
- 14:43Speaker 4: to win at home against this team.
- 14:45Speaker 2: I love it because I like beating the Titans and
- 14:47Speaker 2: so and I like Mac. So if Mac beats the Titans,
- 14:50Speaker 2: I like it even more twice as much.
- 14:52Speaker 1: What the holidays are all about, I'm going to be
- 14:54Speaker 1: a grinch here and go negative. Unfortunately, I think we're
- 14:57Speaker 1: it off lenk Away. We got a little holiday punch
- 15:00Speaker 1: well here. I just think that they would have lost
- 15:03Speaker 1: that game against the Titans a couple of weeks ago
- 15:06Speaker 1: if will Levis was capable of making some better decisions.
- 15:09Speaker 1: And I think Rudolph is a smarter quarterback and we'll
- 15:12Speaker 1: be able to make those decisions. And while he turns
- 15:15Speaker 1: the ball over, we don't seem to catch those, you know,
- 15:17Speaker 1: interceptions that are thrown around by other quarterbacks. So I
- 15:20Speaker 1: think that will kind of be the downfall. If they
- 15:22Speaker 1: can force some turnovers from Rudolpha and take advantage of
- 15:25Speaker 1: those turnovers and get points off of them, I think
- 15:27Speaker 1: the Jaguars can win, But unfortunately I don't see that
- 15:29Speaker 1: right now. And hopefully this is a jinx. The reverse
- 15:31Speaker 1: drinks that I've been doing.
- 15:32Speaker 2: We'll work for them and they will win, isn't There's
- 15:34Speaker 2: so many holiday puns that we could put in there.
- 15:37Speaker 1: There is Rudolph leave it alone, so many it's too
- 15:40Speaker 1: many to do.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Stay with this.
- 15:41Speaker 1: We'll tell you a little bit about what's coming up
- 15:43Speaker 1: to the rest of this week.
