Transcript
- 0:19Speaker 1: Hello, Hi Emily.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Here, I'm feeling silly today. I'm feeling silly today because
- 0:27Speaker 2: I have been working on a project. I have made
- 0:30Speaker 2: this project the Monster for months now. To be specific,
- 0:36Speaker 2: I'm working on a speaking reel and I needed to
- 0:39Speaker 2: sit down and storyboard it and think about what I
- 0:42Speaker 2: wanted it to say and find examples. And I just
- 0:46Speaker 2: have not put in the time for this. And I'm
- 0:49Speaker 2: finally putting in the time for it, and I'm proud
- 0:50Speaker 2: of myself, but my brain feels like mush. On that note,
- 0:56Speaker 2: Aside from working on this reel, the other thing that
- 0:59Speaker 2: I am just inundated with is the fact that I
- 1:01Speaker 2: am running a marathon next weekend. You've heard me talk
- 1:04Speaker 2: about it incessantly here, so I'm going to do that.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I won't even say for the last time, because I'm
- 1:09Speaker 2: sure I'm going to talk about it some more. But today,
- 1:12Speaker 2: this whole episode is me answering a five minute Friday question.
- 1:16Speaker 2: This one comes from Shay from New York City. She says,
- 1:21Speaker 2: love your show so much and I miss the solo
- 1:24Speaker 2: Wednesday episodes. Any chance you bring them back? Fun fact,
- 1:27Speaker 2: I'm gonna have a solo to kick off next week,
- 1:29Speaker 2: so stay tuned for that. But if you also feel
- 1:31Speaker 2: this way always, I love your feedback. Just like you
- 1:35Speaker 2: can email me a listener question over to Hello at
- 1:38Speaker 2: hurdle dot us. You can always email me there with
- 1:40Speaker 2: whatever your thoughts, your feelings, your concerns. I will see
- 1:44Speaker 2: them anyway. Shay writes, I have a question for five
- 1:48Speaker 2: Minute Friday. How do you feel going into Chicago Marathon weekend?
- 1:52Speaker 2: You announced a big goal early in your training, and
- 1:55Speaker 2: I'd love to hear some reflections from you. What was
- 1:58Speaker 2: the hardest part of training? What did you do differently
- 2:01Speaker 2: this time around? Would you do that again? Other than
- 2:03Speaker 2: your a goal? What would make you feel accomplished? Where
- 2:06Speaker 2: do you feel most confident? How do you feel in
- 2:08Speaker 2: your body? How are you passing the time on your taper.
- 2:10Speaker 2: While there's a lot of questions here, Shay, I'm being
- 2:13Speaker 2: honest really would love to hear anything you'd be willing
- 2:15Speaker 2: to share. Thanks so much and wishing you the absolute
- 2:18Speaker 2: best day out there on the twelfth eek, Shay, Like Shy,
- 2:22Speaker 2: this is fun. I don't think I'm going to answer
- 2:25Speaker 2: every single one of those questions, but I am holistically
- 2:27Speaker 2: going to give you a pulse check on where I'm at,
- 2:29Speaker 2: and I do write a little bit about this in
- 2:32Speaker 2: the Weekly Hurdle newsletter today as well, So if you're
- 2:35Speaker 2: not subscribed, it is absolutely free unless you would like
- 2:38Speaker 2: to donate, so consider doing that. I feel ready and
- 2:45Speaker 2: I feel a little worried for no specific reason.
- 2:51Speaker 1: In particular.
- 2:52Speaker 2: I've done all of the workouts, and oftentimes when I
- 2:55Speaker 2: feel that sense of hesitation going into a moment like this,
- 2:59Speaker 2: I find it so helpful to reflect on the training
- 3:01Speaker 2: and literally look at the log and see all of
- 3:05Speaker 2: the work that I've put in and remind myself that
- 3:08Speaker 2: I am capable of doing this hard thing. With that said,
- 3:12Speaker 2: the worry comes from I made a decision that was
- 3:16Speaker 2: the right decision, and that was to go work in
- 3:20Speaker 2: Japan for two weeks, and if I am being entirely
- 3:24Speaker 2: real with myself, that was really hard on my body.
- 3:28Speaker 2: I do feel like now, you know, a little over
- 3:33Speaker 2: a week out, I feel back to being myself.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But for god, you.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Know, a better part of the last three four weeks,
- 3:41Speaker 2: I just haven't been in the place that would be
- 3:46Speaker 2: ideal for performing how I originally set out to perform
- 3:51Speaker 2: at this marathon. So Shay referenced me announcing a big
- 3:57Speaker 2: goal early in my training when I like just that
- 4:00Speaker 2: I was all in on this. I wanted to run
- 4:04Speaker 2: faster than my previous Chicago PR which is three twenty
- 4:11Speaker 2: eight oh eight. I was like, I feel like I
- 4:14Speaker 2: have this in my soul. I am capable, I am confident.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Let's do it, like, let's put it all out there.
- 4:22Speaker 2: And I'm still willing to put it all out there.
- 4:24Speaker 2: But I remember when I went into New York last
- 4:26Speaker 2: year and I thought that I could do a certain thing,
- 4:30Speaker 2: and my goal at the time was I want to
- 4:32Speaker 2: do this thing, and I also want to have fun.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And so if I am in pursuit of the thing
- 4:38Speaker 2: and it stops being mostly fun, then I'm abandoning the goal,
- 4:43Speaker 2: right And so I feel that way a little bit
- 4:48Speaker 2: about Chicago. I do think that I can go into
- 4:50Speaker 2: the pain cave and have a good time. Don't get
- 4:53Speaker 2: me wrong, I love a good time in the pain cave.
- 4:57Speaker 2: But I want to I do want to enjoy myself.
- 5:01Speaker 2: And if that is like being really miserable out there
- 5:05Speaker 2: because it's just not feeling like it's clicking, then I'm
- 5:08Speaker 2: gonna pull back and I'm gonna focus on the fun.
- 5:10Speaker 2: I also went into this marathon training cycle like oh
- 5:14Speaker 2: my god again.
- 5:16Speaker 1: I wrote about this in the Weekly Hurdle.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Like I in May was just in a body that
- 5:24Speaker 2: I have never been into my life. Marathon training aka
- 5:29Speaker 2: running four or five days a week and committing to
- 5:33Speaker 2: strength training and strength training for days a week like that,
- 5:37Speaker 2: they those are two very different things. And I felt
- 5:42Speaker 2: really confident in my body at the beginning of.
- 5:44Speaker 1: This training cycle, and I also feel really.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Confident in it now and that is the result of
- 5:51Speaker 2: putting in the work Like that is not something that
- 5:54Speaker 2: I Gosh, I've just been on this journey for so long,
- 6:00Speaker 2: and no matter how confident or whatever you see on
- 6:05Speaker 2: social you know, like I'm on a journey that will
- 6:09Speaker 2: never end when it comes to being proud of myself
- 6:12Speaker 2: and body acceptance and like standing strong and who it
- 6:15Speaker 2: is that I am, and old me would really feel
- 6:23Speaker 2: like I did something wrong by losing that's kind of
- 6:27Speaker 2: in air quotes some of the progress that I had
- 6:29Speaker 2: made earlier this year. I definitely like have lost some
- 6:33Speaker 2: strength but gained other things in the process of training
- 6:37Speaker 2: for this marathon, and.
- 6:37Speaker 1: So it's it's it's a work in progress.
- 6:41Speaker 2: I'm really proud of myself for how I feel right
- 6:44Speaker 2: now in my body knowing that.
- 6:48Speaker 1: One isn't better than the other.
- 6:50Speaker 2: And I can feel strong and confident in my body
- 6:53Speaker 2: knowing that this body is going to be the body
- 6:55Speaker 2: that helps me cross that twenty six point two mile
- 6:58Speaker 2: finish line next weekend, and it's the same body that
- 7:02Speaker 2: could do seven pull ups in July. Can I do
- 7:07Speaker 2: seven pull ups right now? Highly doubtful, Highly doubtful, And
- 7:10Speaker 2: that is oh okay, now, you know me. I love
- 7:14Speaker 2: a marathon recop episode, So I do believe that I
- 7:17Speaker 2: will address a lot of other things in that that
- 7:20Speaker 2: Shay asked in this But if you have other questions
- 7:23Speaker 2: or if there is anything else I can talk on,
- 7:26Speaker 2: you know me. I try to be an open book
- 7:28Speaker 2: in a way that feels responsible and safe and also
- 7:31Speaker 2: like safe for me and my boundaries. So yeah, ask
- 7:35Speaker 2: away again. That email for those is hello at Hurdle
- 7:38Speaker 2: dot us. You know how to find me. I'm over
- 7:40Speaker 2: on the socials at Emilyabody and at Hurdle Podcast Another
- 7:44Speaker 2: Hurdle Conquered.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Catch you guys next time.
