- 0:12Of things dramatic Heathenry related.
- 0:14My name is Jesse. I am your host.
- 0:17Let's get into it. Well, hail and hello everyone
- 0:45and welcome back. After a bit of a a bit of a
- 0:49sabbatical. You might say.
- 0:51A bit of a hiatus. So, yeah, welcome back and thank
- 0:57you so much for, you know, understanding where where I've
- 1:03been, even though I haven't really told you where I've been.
- 1:06I've been around, I've been doing a lot of other things time
- 1:10that has been taking up more important things than the
- 1:13podcast. You guys may have seen my.
- 1:16Video last week about that. Just kind of giving you as an
- 1:23update on things I've got going on, things that I'm working on
- 1:27with myself. And yeah, I'm taking care of
- 1:30myself and I'm taking care of things that are very close and
- 1:32near and dear to me and my hearth.
- 1:36And I hope you're all doing the same.
- 1:38So once again, thank you for being here.
- 1:40Thank you for listening. We're going to just jump right
- 1:44into the topic today. No real big announcements to
- 1:47make, no real big upcoming events.
- 1:53So with that being said, let me lower my logo, open the top
- 2:01screen. Today's episode is.
- 2:04Like I said, we're just going to germinate it.
- 2:06We're we're going to get right into a question that was shared
- 2:09to our Patreon community and our Patreon chat.

- 2:54the ways that we engage. With each other is.
- 2:58Supporters on Patreon will add in the community chat a a
- 3:02recommendation on. Future podcast episodes.
- 3:07And this one is coming from what you say his name is Robert.
- 3:10I like to protect people's. Identity as much as possible
- 3:14even though they are, you know, interacting in an online space.
- 3:19But Robert wanted to suggest an episode on what the runes are
- 3:26and these. Are Robert's exact words he?
- 3:28Said What are the runes? So it's like before part.
- 3:33Question sort of thing, he said. What are the runes?
- 3:38Where does Odin get them? Why does he need to do a ritual
- 3:45and almost die to gain them? And lastly, does this suggest
- 3:52the runes are above or beyond the gods?
- 3:58And I love talking about the runes rune ology.
- 4:02And you know, I'm, I'm not a rune ologist, but I am someone
- 4:06who has found the runes to be useful in his heathen practices.
- 4:17I don't think that all heathens necessarily, every heathen
- 4:21should, you know, unless they feel, unless they feel.
- 4:27Called to it. Or unless it's something that is
- 4:29speaking to them that they should just think that well if
- 4:32I'm a heathen I have to learn the runes.
- 4:35It's it's not like. A prerequisite?
- 4:37Sort of. Thing in my mind, but for me in
- 4:45my heathen practices and it and it didn't start out that way
- 4:49either. Excuse me, It didn't start out
- 4:53with me becoming heathen or, or, or finding a heathen path and
- 4:57then then saying, well, let me just Start learning the runes,
- 5:00what the ruins mean, their individual meanings, their, you
- 5:04know, phonetic meanings, their esoteric meanings, etcetera.
- 5:10No, it took a. A couple of years, two or three.
- 5:13Years of, of me being into heathen right before it became
- 5:17revealed to me or it was revealed to me that the the
- 5:20ruins were something that I was going to be pursuing or, or
- 5:24looking into as part of my practices.
- 5:28So again, don't feel like if you're listening to this and
- 5:31you're a new heathen and you're, and you're trying to figure out
- 5:33like what the ruins are. Don't think that if you don't
- 5:35know what they are that you all of a sudden just need to.
- 5:38Do so. By default it.
- 5:40You know you don't inherently need to know rune information or
- 5:45or know anything about the ruins to be heathen.
- 5:49It is a very specific. Approach.
- 5:51I feel and my approach is probably different than.
- 5:59Other people's approaches. From the individuals that I've
- 6:03spoken to and learn things from, you know the way.
- 6:08That I work with. The runes is unique to me and my
- 6:11cultic practice, my individual cultic.
- 6:13Practice. And, and, and, and how I've gone
- 6:19into learning runic divination or, or, or runic esotericism.
- 6:24Whatever term you want to put to it has been through a lot of
- 6:29different readings, you know. Some folks out here will.
- 6:36Have a very staunch approach about don't read this book from
- 6:39this author, don't read this website from this person because
- 6:44of this thing that. Or the other.
- 6:47I understand kind of where that comes from.
- 6:49Because there's a lot. Of misinformation out there.
- 6:52There's a lot of. Incorrect information out there.
- 6:59But I will also say that. You're not going to learn
- 7:03anything unless you research anything and everything.
- 7:08It's sometimes good to research things that.
- 7:11Get a bad review or that have bad press.
- 7:14Just for the simple fact of you need to gain that knowledge.
- 7:17Of why or or of? Of what it is and what makes it
- 7:20such. So please, you know, if you're
- 7:24interested or you're thinking about learning more about what
- 7:27the runes are you, you will definitely hear some people,
- 7:32especially educated and learned runeologists, discredit or or
- 7:40discount certain authors. I've been one of them too, that
- 7:43even though I'm not a brunologist, I've been 1.
- 7:45Like, you know, Ralph Bloom, for instance.
- 7:47You know, he he's like the guy that.
- 7:49We don't ever recommend or. Suggest people pick up or or
- 7:54read their. Books I've I've skimmed through.
- 7:56Ralph's book I've I've. You know, seen some highlights
- 7:59and I'm going what in the world is this and when where is it
- 8:02coming from? And it's so you'll hear that a
- 8:05lot about certain authors and him being so specific one.
- 8:12But I just say, you know, if if you're interested and you want
- 8:14to pick up a book, you want to spend your hard earned money on
- 8:16a book and read it, whether it's Ralph Bloomer or anybody else,
- 8:19you know, go for it. But what are the runes?
- 8:25You might be wondering what we're talking about.
- 8:28The runes in popular modern day opinions or views are the
- 8:38characters, the symbols? Kind of like what you see around
- 8:41this stave in in the backdrop behind me.
- 8:47They are characters or or. Symbols that represent letters.
- 8:52Of a. Writing system that was used at
- 8:57one point in time before the Latin alphabet became a familiar
- 9:01thing to that population. So there's different different
- 9:05runic. Alphabets, if you will.
- 9:07There's. Different different runic
- 9:09symbols. For the sake of this.
- 9:13Podcast. And for the sake of keeping
- 9:14things kind of relative to heathen content, we're going to
- 9:18start. And talk about what The elder?
- 9:20Futhark. So the Futhark runes are the
- 9:27Germanic runes. Elder Futhark specifically are
- 9:31the. Oldest known Germanic runes.
- 9:36That were used at a period of. Time that that predate, you
- 9:41know. The very popular.
- 9:42Modern, you know, the Viking Age or, or or medieval Scandinavian
- 9:47times predates. All of that.
- 9:50And it was in his belief that these are the runes that were
- 9:53used to write in a Proto Germanic language.
- 9:57Proto Germanic. Is a, is a largely.
- 9:59Reconstructed language nowadays. So if you ever come across or
- 10:02hear anybody reciting or saying anything in a proto Germanic
- 10:07language, it is a reconstructed language.
- 10:10Don't necessarily know how it sounded, but based upon a lot of
- 10:14things that have been discovered in history and and what we know
- 10:18of languages that are Germanic languages.
- 10:21So everything from, you know, modern German that go all the
- 10:23way back to things like old, old, old English, Old Saxon, Old
- 10:29Middle German, Old High German, these Germanic languages that we
- 10:33do know through scholarly evidence and archaeological
- 10:38finds and things that they. Were as they.
- 10:40Did have a specific sound, so a. Lot of the these old.
- 10:43Languages that are dead now that aren't spoken anymore, where
- 10:46I've been reconstructed and believed to have sounded a
- 10:49certain way. So at the time in history when
- 10:54the proto Germanic would have been spoken, it is believed that
- 10:58these runes the Elder Futhark runes where the runes used to to
- 11:04write in that language. So at a very basic.
- 11:08Level runes are symbols that represent the phonetic value of
- 11:15the spoken language. Of that particular people as we
- 11:19go through history, as we get closer.
- 11:21To modern times over time. Just as it as it.
- 11:24Does even in modern times, languages evolve and so do the
- 11:30sounds and alphabet and things that were being.
- 11:32Used. To to write and communicate in
- 11:35those languages so you know at a time when the 24 Elder Futhark.
- 11:40Runes covered the the vocal. Sounds and and and the things
- 11:46that. The way that the people.
- 11:47At that time, would speak in as language evolved, some of those
- 11:51runes disappeared. Some of those runes were renamed
- 11:55or or or or found different meaning so that you'll see like
- 11:59an evolution happen again kind of during, you know?
- 12:05A little bit before the. The the Viking Age, as it's
- 12:09called, you know, so a. Little bit before the.
- 12:11The seven hundreds where those Elder Futhark runes start to get
- 12:14renamed or disappear and and they get reduced.
- 12:17So from it from from 24 Elder Futhark runes you have 18
- 12:20Younger Futhark runes. That were used to write.
- 12:25In and communicate in in the non evolved now Old Norse language
- 12:30of Scandinavia. So you say old Icelandic old you
- 12:34know Norwegian they're those those languages are very similar
- 12:38or say modern Icelandic modern modern Norwegian, right.
- 12:41These languages, these Scandinavian languages are very
- 12:43similar to what old Norse was. I think I think most people
- 12:49would agree that modern. Icelandic is the closest to.
- 12:54The way Old Norse would have would have sounded or or was
- 12:57spoken. But again, at that time, right
- 13:00around the seven hundreds in in between the seven and you know,
- 13:04year 1000 in that 300 or so year period is when we see the
- 13:08younger Futhark being used more, I want to say.
- 13:12That the the characters. Of the Anglo Sax and futhorc are
- 13:16a little bit earlier than the Younger Futhark.
- 13:21I believe they, they, they. Predate when the Younger Futhark
- 13:24appear in in in like rune stones or or inscriptions or or or
- 13:30other archaeological finds like jewelry bractiates things of
- 13:35that nature. And of course, the Anglo-Saxon
- 13:38futhorc were runes that were used to write in the old English
- 13:44language. So again, you know, if if we're
- 13:48talking about what the runes. Are at a very base.
- 13:51Level runes. Are the the characters?
- 13:54The symbols that represent the phonetic sound, you know.
- 13:57So Rhode Island though means you know, has the R sound and FEHU
- 14:01is the F sound and you know, full.
- 14:04Resource is the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, TH sort of
- 14:08the. Sound, you know.
- 14:11T was is the TH. Sound and etcetera, etcetera.
- 14:15So you know as you as you would might look up online or or find
- 14:18charts of what the different, you know the different languages
- 14:22were at the time and what the runic.
- 14:23Characters were. You'll you'll you'll see them
- 14:27being. Equated to as as like.
- 14:30Letters of the the Roman alphabet or the Latin alphabet
- 14:33where you know R says you know the.
- 14:35Right, Oath says. R and Fei who says F?
- 14:38You know, so it gives those sounds, but the runes are are
- 14:42are quite more than just letters of an alphabet or letters of a
- 14:46system used to write in a language.
- 14:51And I'm just, and I'm just giving you examples of what you
- 14:53know, different runic characters, runic letters are
- 14:56there are many different runic alphabets.
- 14:59That have. Come and gone over time.
- 15:02Depending on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go and
- 15:05how much you want to research into it, you can do that, but
- 15:10again for the. Sake of what?
- 15:11This podcast. Is about in, in, in Heathenry.
- 15:13We're going to just stick to like the dramatic system.
- 15:19So that is. Wasted at the very.
- 15:20Base level what the ruins are, but they are much more than that
- 15:24There is been increasing discoveries and increasing
- 15:29evidence that would suggest that runes the symbols yes they.
- 15:36Are letters, but they would be used.
- 15:39And and and inscribed. Or or or carved.
- 15:43Into or onto things to imbibe that thing with some sort of
- 15:49magical. Or esoteric properties.
- 15:55I'll be I'll be linking some things in the description of
- 15:58this video and in the show notes of this podcast for sources that
- 16:00you can go to and find what I mean and what I'm referring to.
- 16:05But as we see again, especially during the the quote UN quote
- 16:10Viking age of Scandinavia, where across Denmark and Sweden and I
- 16:15think even Norway, right where rune stones have been erected.
- 16:19You know, those were, those were stones that have been carved in
- 16:22the Younger Futhark runic system to commemorate someone or
- 16:27something that was done or that someone did.
- 16:30So they were commemorative. Pieces they were.
- 16:31They were. Written in the language at the
- 16:34time and and they were not using a Latin alphabet, they were
- 16:37using a runic alphabet. So aside, but aside from those
- 16:42things, aside from those monuments, aside from those
- 16:44commemorative. Pieces there are also.
- 16:46Other things that have been found over time that again
- 16:52strongly suggest and imply that those runic characters were used
- 16:58in magical contexts if you leave and look.
- 17:03At the word itself? What?
- 17:04Rune means in different periods of time throughout history, it
- 17:11could have meant different things.
- 17:12It could have meant the letter the the the the symbol itself
- 17:17could have also meant secret or mystery.
- 17:23There was a interview done I think just this year with Ainar
- 17:29Selvik of of Wardruna and Dr. Rune Rune Rasmussen of the
- 17:36Nordic Animism website where the two of them spoke about it and,
- 17:41and and Ainar kind of alludes to the.
- 17:45The old root of the. Word rune as rune, meaning this
- 17:50sort of chance or this sort of spell almost in a way that would
- 17:56be conjured or so spoken like a as in as in a song, you know?
- 18:05So that tracks also. Very much so.
- 18:10With what we read about. In the Hovemall In the section
- 18:13of the Hovemall, a poem contained in the poetic.
- 18:17Edda. One of the older poems that that
- 18:21makes up the original Codex Regis manuscripts of
- 18:25Scandinavian. Sources the.
- 18:29In the Hall of Them All, which I'll be reading a little bit
- 18:31from here. For you all today, the the the
- 18:35speaker as as. Odin in the section of the hall
- 18:38mall called the rune Natal the rune songs the rune you know he
- 18:41he talks a bit and even pre previously from that portion of
- 18:46the poem the rune. Natal that the.
- 18:49The runes are songs or that he knows these songs and so.
- 18:53There's that, there's that. Thing that sort of confirms what
- 18:59Einar was saying or or reinforces I should say what
- 19:01einar was saying is that. The root of that word.
- 19:04Rune is is is something of a could be again seen as a
- 19:09something of a mystery or something of a secret, but also
- 19:13is a something that is. Played or or or.
- 19:17Spoken in a song sort of way when playing drums or
- 19:20instruments or something to sort of conjure or generate that that
- 19:23magic. So from the HA of them all I
- 19:29will and and by the way. The the the copy or.
- 19:32The translation that I'm reading from today is a a modern
- 19:35translation. It is the Heathen study edition
- 19:40of mythological poems. And this is.
- 19:42The Poetic Edda. The author is Thorstein
- 19:45Mayfield. So I will I will post if it's
- 19:52still available. I believe it still is.
- 19:55Online if you want to. Get a copy of this.
- 19:58Version of the. Poetic Edda, like I said.
- 20:00You know some. People have their favorites of.
- 20:02Of translators and authors who translated the Poetic Edda and
- 20:06in the poems contained therein from their original languages,
- 20:10some people have their favorites.
- 20:11I do too. But I do like to hear and see
- 20:19others translations. Of it as well so.
- 20:24If it's available, a link will be in the show notes and
- 20:27description for you if you want to get.
- 20:30A copy of this book yourself. This the the copy of.
- 20:33The of this translation of the. Of the Poetic Edda.
- 20:38So from this translation from the Hall of them all contained
- 20:43at the stanza, what is it in this?
- 20:45Again, in this translation is stanza 111.
- 20:49If you're reading or or or referring to this stanza from
- 20:52other translations, it might be 1 before or one after.
- 20:55That's kind of a a pattern we see in some translations.
- 20:58Where, where, Where the Where the author?
- 21:01Where the translator? Decided to break up the.
- 21:04The stanzas from but in this translation it is stanza 111.
- 21:11And again, the speaker in this context was is, you know, Odin.
- 21:17So he says it is. Time to chant.
- 21:21The sages it. Is time to chant on.
- 21:25The Sages chair at the Well of Urd.
- 21:30I saw and was silent. I saw.
- 21:34And was thoughtful. I listened to the speech of men
- 21:38of runes. I heard them speak.
- 21:41Nor were they silent in council. At Horrors Hall.
- 21:46In Horrors hall I heard it's spoken so so chant on the sage's
- 21:56chair. A chant again alludes.
- 21:59To a a. A song or a sort of melody or or
- 22:02something of an incantation being done.
- 22:05At the well of urge. Listening and and seeing and
- 22:10absorbing these things and, and obtaining the knowledge of these
- 22:16rooms or these mysteries perhaps, or these songs even
- 22:20could be one way of, of interpreting it.
- 22:25And that's again, that's in that's before the Rue Natal
- 22:28section of the Hava Mall. So that was stanza 111 if we
- 22:32move up. Forward to the.
- 22:35Stanza 138. Or even 137 I think and more
- 22:47like 138, at least in this translation.
- 22:49So again, different translations might number them differently
- 22:51and start them differently. But around the stands at 138 is
- 22:54when the Ruin Natal section of the have them all begins.
- 22:57And this is when Odin says, I know that I hung upon a tree
- 23:01exposed to the wind Knights, all nine wounded.
- 23:06By Spear. And given to Odin myself, to
- 23:09myself on that tree that no man knows from where that root runs
- 23:17not. With a loaf or with?
- 23:19Horn, did they bless me? I looked down.
- 23:22I took up the runes, crying out loud.
- 23:26I took them. Then I fell back from there.
- 23:32Mighty songs 9. I learned from the famous son of
- 23:36Bull Thorn, bestless father, and I got a drink of the clear Mead
- 23:42of the dear Mead sprinkled out of Othrair.
- 23:47Then I learned to make myself fruitful and to be well
- 23:51informed, to grow and thrive as well.
- 23:56Words from me sought words, deeds from me.
- 24:01Sought deeds. Runes you will find and
- 24:06counselling. Staves.
- 24:08Very, very potent staves. Very strong staves that the
- 24:14mighty sage do, that the mighty sage knew and the great gods
- 24:19made. I'm sorry, the mighty Sage.
- 24:21Drew. The great gods made and.
- 24:24Copper carved with power. Odin among the Asir Dane for
- 24:34elves, Dwalin for. Dwarves.
- 24:36Ozvidir. For giants, I counsel, I carved
- 24:41some myself. Do you know?
- 24:45How you should? Carve.
- 24:47Do you know how you should interpret?
- 24:51Do you know how you should draw? Do you know how you should
- 24:56attempt? Do you know how you should ask?
- 25:00Do you know how you should worship?
- 25:04Do you know how you should send? Do you know?
- 25:07How you should sacrifice? And then the last poem of the of
- 25:14the Hovmal is is is a kind of a forewarning of it is better
- 25:18unasked than over sacrificed for.
- 25:20Always a gift looks. For a return it is better unsent
- 25:25than over sacrificed for thus thruned carved before the
- 25:30origins of the people. At that place he rose up.
- 25:34When he came back, so this kind of again in some of these
- 25:41stanzas. It it is it is.
- 25:43Suggested I mean very much so in the the the the 140th stanza
- 25:49Mighty songs 9 I learned from the famous son of bold horn
- 25:53Bestless. Father.
- 25:54Mighty songs 99 mighty songs so these songs these things are are
- 26:01are you know you could say were were discovered or learned from
- 26:07the experience of taking up the runes or the runes were those
- 26:11songs that. He that he took up.
- 26:14So going back to one of Robert's questions, you know.
- 26:18Where does? Odin get them.
- 26:20Where does Odin get the runes? He gets them from the.
- 26:22Well of Earth at the roots of Igor.
- 26:25Seal according to the myth, you know according to the.
- 26:29Lore Why does it take? Odin what?
- 26:37Does he say? Why does it?
- 26:39Why does he need to do a ritual and almost die to gain them?
- 26:46If you read over. Around in in the hall of them
- 26:49all and understand like what some of the songs were that that
- 26:52Odin learned some of the spells, if you will, some of the songs.
- 26:57These are powerful things and and and again it suggests that
- 27:01the what is done with the runes, with the symbols.
- 27:08With the staves. Because that is also something
- 27:10that is mentioned, you know, potent staves, strong staves,
- 27:14counseling staves, right? All of these different things
- 27:16that can come from learning these mysteries and learning.
- 27:20These these these. These marks, these symbols,
- 27:23these these things that you need to know specifically how you
- 27:28should carve them, how you should interpret them, how you
- 27:30should draw them, how you should, you know, ask of them,
- 27:32worship them, send them, sacrifice them again, these are.
- 27:35These are words used by the author of.
- 27:37This translation that may. Differ or vary?
- 27:39Slightly, but I believe. The spirit of it is.
- 27:45The same regardless of the translation that you're going to
- 27:48be reading from. Why does Odin have to sacrifice
- 27:53himself and almost die? You know he he is impaled by his
- 27:57own spear hanging from a tree for 9 long days and nights as a
- 28:03sacrifice of himself to himself. You know this.
- 28:08This to me just is, is another example of that.
- 28:13You know life is about ordeal and Worthing.
- 28:16To gain sacred knowledge, to gain access to the mysteries.
- 28:24Of. Life or the mysteries of of our
- 28:28experience in life. It takes sacrifice.
- 28:32It takes. The giving up of ourselves,
- 28:36whether it's our time, our energy.
- 28:41Part of our spirit, our our our the the various parts of our
- 28:44soul that the, the the the. The complex.
- 28:46Cities of our soul. Being given up to obtain the
- 28:50knowledge of these things and Odin in the.
- 28:53Stories is is the. The first one to do that, to
- 28:56gain these mysteries, because what happened after he did that?
- 29:02After he sacrifices, was that he?
- 29:04Learned to make himself fruitful from word, begat word, from deed
- 29:11begat deed. And so he was well informed.
- 29:13He was well. Educated he was.
- 29:15Able to then thrive and do better based on the the the
- 29:21accessing of of knowledge. Of the of.
- 29:24These of these mysteries does. The does this suggest that?
- 29:34The runes are above or beyond the gods.
- 29:39I believe that the runes are older.
- 29:40These mysteries, these things are definitely older than the
- 29:43gods. They are.
- 29:43They are ageless. They are timeless.
- 29:46They are sounds. They are.
- 29:49Cosmic vibrations. They are things that have
- 29:52existed in the known universe and the unknown universe for
- 29:55longer than recorded time and memory.
- 29:58They have seen, they have witnessed, they have vibrated.
- 30:00They have been there since the Gnunga got since.
- 30:04The great void before the. Realms were even formed.
- 30:11They are above and beyond. The gods, but there.
- 30:14Are some that have been carved by the.
- 30:15Gods for the gods for the elves, for the dwarves.
- 30:20You know, for humans, for for mankind.
- 30:25This is this. Is all written about throughout
- 30:29the Norse lore contained in the Poetic Edda.
- 30:33You know, this is important stuff, that.
- 30:34That is, if you're serious. About Heathen Reed if you're
- 30:37serious about learning these things that you've become versed
- 30:40and that you that you become knowledgeable and that you sort
- 30:42of spend time at the. Tree, if you will.
- 30:46To learn these things but it all comes with a price cause again
- 30:52Odin didn't didn't get the knowledge of these things
- 30:55without. 1st. Sacrificing 9 days and nights
- 30:59himself to himself I wanted to talk about.
- 31:03This particular topic this week because today as I'm recording
- 31:09this this this podcast. You know I don't, you know for.
- 31:14Folks that that that watch. My stuff on on Patreon know that
- 31:20I'm usually drinking. Out of a a whiskey.
- 31:22Glass. I have a Tumblr with whiskey in
- 31:23it. It's different today.
- 31:25This this mug, this horn mug contains water.
- 31:30OK, I have not. I haven't consumed alcohol
- 31:41since. Today is Monday, Monday November
- 31:464th and I haven't consumed any alcohol since Halloween night
- 31:51October 31st and I also haven't ate any solid food since then
- 31:59and I still have. Days left to go.
- 32:01On this, this fast, and I am fasting for more than just the
- 32:09quote UN quote health benefits that go along with it.
- 32:13You just, you know, do your research if you want to, you
- 32:16know, know what the health benefits are for longer fasting,
- 32:19Intermittent fasting is a thing and it's a healthy thing to do.
- 32:23But I am on a, on a long fast. Of a of a week.
- 32:29You know, so I will not eat solid food again until.
- 32:32The day that this podcast. Airs by the time you're
- 32:35listening to this if you're if you're catching this the morning
- 32:37that it airs. I, I I I still have hours left
- 32:42to go. Before I break my fast and it's
- 32:48a sacrifice of myself to myself. But also to sort of.
- 32:54Gain healing clarity the help that I need to be a better man,
- 33:04to be a better. Brother to be a better.
- 33:06Husband to be a better be a better person.
- 33:13To to. Increase my might and mean so
- 33:18that I can better serve in the capacity that I've been given to
- 33:21serve, you know? The sacrifice to, to, to.
- 33:29Attain these things is high. The the the reward is high, but
- 33:32the the the sacrifice is great. And it's not for everybody.
- 33:36Not everybody can't just. Stop with their.
- 33:39You know, stop eating solid food everybody can't hang from 9 days
- 33:42and nights on a tree all. Right.
- 33:44Like I, I, I. Understand like there's a, you
- 33:47know, take it in context. It's it's.
- 33:49You know, part of the mythos, part of the lore.
- 33:54But if you if you. Like none of the other gods did
- 33:57this, Odin did this. Odin had to do this to to gain
- 34:02this knowledge you know he had. To sacrifice his eye.
- 34:04And me, me as well, to gain wisdom and to see the things
- 34:11that he didn't see before. This.
- 34:17Type of stuff can get. Very philosophical.
- 34:20I think, I think if you get a room of heathens or even
- 34:22something like this. Right, if I had other.
- 34:24People talking with me at the time of of of of filming.
- 34:27This, that. You know, we could really get
- 34:31into the weeds with the philosophical nature.
- 34:34Of of these types. Of things.
- 34:39But I do. I feel like this is a sort of.
- 34:42Example being set to to understand what what it takes
- 34:51there's you know another part of that that that first stanza that
- 34:54I. That I read the.
- 34:56Stanza 111 stuck out to me in in.
- 35:06Let me go back and find it. Hold on, it is time to chant on
- 35:12the. Sage's chair at the Well of
- 35:14Rude. I saw and was silent, you know,
- 35:20I listened to the speech of men. I saw and was thoughtful of
- 35:25ruins. I heard them speak.
- 35:26You're not going to. You're not going to hear.
- 35:29What people have to say if you're.
- 35:31Yapping at the jaw. You had to be quiet.
- 35:34You're also not going to learn things from what is being said.
- 35:39You're not going to be able to. Receive those.
- 35:45Those songs, those mysteries, not going to be able to absorb
- 35:47those things. If you're making a bunch of
- 35:50racket talking, you have to be silent.
- 35:56And I think that there is an interesting thing to think
- 35:59about. That too is.
- 36:00That you know, the mysteries that are received from the
- 36:02runes, as I mentioned at the beginning of the podcast, in the
- 36:07mysteries that the things that I've received, that I've gained
- 36:09from my runic studies is isn't probably unique and not the
- 36:13same. Entirely as as everybody else.
- 36:17And there's, I think, a point to that.
- 36:19I think that some of the things that are received by us when we
- 36:24sacrifice. What we do to receive?
- 36:28This knowledge to obtain the visions.
- 36:31Of the of these mysteries. Is to be silent about them,
- 36:36isn't to just go about, you know?
- 36:38Hey guys, look what I. Found Look what I learned.
- 36:43That's my opinion. There's a lot of.
- 36:45Good information out here that has been shared from people by
- 36:50doing that. By By.
- 36:51Learning by studying and by sharing.
- 36:55But when it comes to some of like the the.
- 36:56Magical stuff that the esoteric side of of of the.
- 37:00Runes of the opinion that those types of things.
- 37:05Are to be kept silent. And are to be kept secret.
- 37:09We don't learn from again making a bunch of racket and making a
- 37:15bunch of noise about it or talking about it all the time.
- 37:17We learn from sitting in silence, watching, listening.
- 37:23And once those mysteries are given to us, those are meant for
- 37:29us. We went through the sacrifice
- 37:32ourselves and then we went through that ordeal, through
- 37:36that Worthing to achieve and and receive those things.
- 37:42And it is for us and for those perhaps chosen ones that you
- 37:46know, have been put in our paths to.
- 37:50Share. To share those things with, you
- 37:54know, I've learned a lot of different things from different.
- 38:03People that have had years. Of experience with runic charms,
- 38:10runic divination, and I've also learned a lot from people who
- 38:13have next to no years or or or time of experience.
- 38:20There was, there was. A couple of months, yeah,
- 38:23probably a few months ago now where I was sitting and talking
- 38:28with one of my tribesmen, going over just.
- 38:32Some basic stuff about the. Runes again, the runic symbols,
- 38:36what they mean, the reciting or, or referencing some of the rune
- 38:42poems like the, the Norwegian rune poem and the Anglo-Saxon
- 38:47rune poem, Icelandic rune poem and kind of going through each
- 38:51of them and, and saying, yeah, well, this rune is what it is.
- 38:54And in each of the rune poems, you know, one poem for this rune
- 38:58might be very much different from the other room poems and if
- 39:03you get into. That you'll see that too.
- 39:05You know. What?
- 39:06What Urus or ur? Is in one room poem is is what
- 39:10it says in that room poem is different entirely meaning wise
- 39:14and it goes into sort of the again like I talked about.
- 39:17Before. Evolution of language and, and
- 39:19what a word meant at a time versus what a word meant later
- 39:22on. And but like, yeah, talking with
- 39:26one of my tribesmen about that particular thing.
- 39:29And, you know, he comes up with this, this whole new idea of,
- 39:32you know, well, you know, like something I had never thought
- 39:35of. And I'd been, you know, working
- 39:37in the ruins and, and spending more time learning about them
- 39:42than than he did. And he just, you know, came up
- 39:46with that thing to think about. And I go, wow, you know, that
- 39:49was, that was actually not too far off base, you know what I
- 39:54mean? Like it it it in the moment and
- 39:56in the context of things makes sense.
- 40:00Can we prove it? Can we confirm that that's what
- 40:02it was? Not really, you know, not by any
- 40:05definitive measure of things, you know.
- 40:12And then again, on the other hand, I've, I've, I've seen
- 40:15things done with the runic charms by by by somebody who.
- 40:20Has a lot of years. Decades.
- 40:24Of experience using the runic symbols in a system or in a way
- 40:30and using it in a method. That is very.
- 40:32Specific to his family's traditions, something that his
- 40:35great grandfather taught him, who was Icelandic and having
- 40:42that kind of history with the runes and having that sort of
- 40:45knowledge and, and stuff passed down, you know, that's, that's
- 40:52not something you're going to find or read about in a book or
- 40:55on some manuscript or whatever, you know.
- 40:58So it was, it was a family's way of doing things.
- 41:01It was a very specific clan or a very specific unit of family
- 41:05collective way of doing things, you know, so.
- 41:10Whether you buy 3-4? Six different books and hear a
- 41:15bunch of different things. You know, you still could spend
- 41:18all the time reading about it, practicing it, doing it,
- 41:22developing a method and find a method that works for you, that
- 41:26was given to you. Through the sacrifice, through
- 41:30the. Giving of.
- 41:31Yourself to, yourself to. Obtain the mysteries and then
- 41:33finding them. I don't and I can't say this is
- 41:36this is again, this is all, you know, UPG I don't think that
- 41:39there is one universal way that the runic symbols, the runic
- 41:44charms, the staves are going to necessarily.
- 41:46Speak for everybody there are. Certainly could be certain
- 41:49staves that are done for specific things, but in terms.
- 41:52Of the the the fluidity. Of it all, we're again, we're
- 41:55talking about things that are, that are older than the gods,
- 41:59that are older than time, as far as we've reckoned it.
- 42:03They're they're cosmic sounds, cosmic vibrations, things that
- 42:06have existed eons upon eons beyond what our minds can
- 42:13comprehend. So to think that they are
- 42:16limited to meaning only this thing that or the other and very
- 42:19boxed for, you know, like in a very specific box, you know,
- 42:24modality. It doesn't feel right to me to
- 42:31say that it for me in my. UPG feels like these are.
- 42:36These are things that are a bit. More fluid they have.
- 42:40There are rune poems that, that say, you know what Raido means
- 42:43or what, what UR means or what Fehu means and, and, and so on
- 42:48and so forth. And there's, there's a reason
- 42:52for that. I think that when it comes to
- 42:55the magical use of the of, of the runic charms or the runic
- 42:58symbols, it transcends those things and it becomes a bit more
- 43:04unique to the person being given the the the knowledge.
- 43:07Through their sacrifice to learn.
- 43:09Them you know it could be like a baseline to work off of, but
- 43:13what mysteries are revealed? It goes way deeper.
- 43:20Than that so you know what are the runes?
- 43:23They are letters. They are symbols.
- 43:26They are sounds. They are mysteries.
- 43:29They are. Secrets they were.
- 43:35Obtained by Odin. At the well of Ood.
- 43:41At the roots of Idris. Seal why did he have to
- 43:48sacrifice himself and nearly die to obtain that knowledge it's
- 43:52cosmic mysteries, man that gets it's it's stuff that can drive a
- 43:57person mad and did for a lot of folks you know and even for
- 44:00Odin, you know he's. He is, he is.
- 44:03Known as the mad one. He's known as one who is mad and
- 44:07in in that. Ecstatic state fears for the
- 44:12loss. Of mind and memory, or thought
- 44:15and memory, you know, And so yeah, I hope that.
- 44:21That was what you were. Looking for there, Robert.
- 44:25It's what I got from your questions and our in our Patreon
- 44:30community. So it was good timing for me to
- 44:32to think about these things as you know, especially going on
- 44:35through what I'm going through. You know those guys sacrifice.
- 44:39You know, giving up of things. That are valuable to us that are
- 44:42that are you? Know you got to think.
- 44:45Like what sacrifice? Meant for ancient civilizations,
- 44:49you know it. Was it was to give?
- 44:50Up things that that you were dependent upon.
- 44:55Your life depended on things that were.
- 44:59Sacrificed. In a modern context I I don't
- 45:06know how much more life dependent you can get when you
- 45:12give up food your our bodies need.
- 45:16Food to survive if we. Don't eat.
- 45:21We are starving and we eventually, unless food is
- 45:25reintroduced and until food is reintroduced, we are slowly
- 45:29starving ourselves. I am slowly starving myself.
- 45:34I'm doing it healthfully. Like I said, I'm I'm monitoring,
- 45:37I'm listening to my body. I'm not going to do things that
- 45:40are stupid. It's also the reason why I'm
- 45:43refraining from alcohol or any other sorts of major stimulants
- 45:47aside from. Tobacco like tobacco itself.
- 45:50I'm I'm smoking a lot. Of pipe tobacco.
- 45:52Pure tobacco. I'm drinking some tea, but it's
- 45:59not caffeinated, you know, So I'm trying to really keep myself
- 46:01as as clean as possible. With.
- 46:03Things but you know, the tobacco was helping with my with my
- 46:07grounding, with my earthing, with my being strong.
- 46:12You know, I'm staying strong like that.
- 46:13Medicine is helping me a lot. Staying hydrated, of course,
- 46:17drinking lots of water, you know, citrus, adding some lemon
- 46:22to it just to. Help with the flavor fatigue.
- 46:26Plus the vitamins and stuff in the in the in the citrus to, you
- 46:30know, keep my keep my body strong during this time of.
- 46:34Of of sacrifice. But it is it's interesting, you
- 46:40know, like for that time that Odin hangs on 9 on on age cell
- 46:44for 9 days and nights, he's not eating, he's not drinking, he's
- 46:46fasting. And then on that 9th day and
- 46:51night, you know, he, he, he sees these things, he's given
- 46:55knowledge of these things, and he screams and he's in agony and
- 46:58he falls. He's in a state of weakness, you
- 47:01know, again, after having impaled himself on his own spear
- 47:07and gone. Through that great ordeal.
- 47:08Of, of starvation for, you know, a week and a half.
- 47:13I'm not going quite that long. I'll be going, you know, a week.
- 47:16But I needed to, I have to, you know, I have things I needed to
- 47:21to address. And I'm also while doing stuff
- 47:28like this, you know, while while revisiting my podcast and and
- 47:32getting back in touch with my audience out here, all of the
- 47:36other things don't. Go.
- 47:37Away you know they are important things for me to.
- 47:41To address, to be healthy to. Be strong to be, you know, sharp
- 47:49in my mind and in my spirit. That has been a very vibrant
- 47:59topic. The Spirit walking our Rd. in
- 48:03spirit. Our spirit.
- 48:05Rd. a lot of you. Have been listening to this.
- 48:10Podcast over the last several. Months and have been listening
- 48:12to ads that I've run for Fire on the Mountain.
- 48:17This year, the retreat was. Named Spirit Road and it and it
- 48:22really was named so appropriately for the things
- 48:27that were gone that were gone through during this year's
- 48:33retreat. And you know, we are, we are
- 48:36going to be myself and, and, and some of the other some of the
- 48:42other attendees and and members of the planning board are going
- 48:45to be doing a a live broadcast on here in a couple.
- 48:49Of weeks. So November 15th I.
- 48:54Believe that's a Friday at. 8:00 PM Eastern Time, 7:00 PM Central
- 49:03time is going to be a live Q&A, So the panel will include myself
- 49:10and and other leaders and attendees of Fire on the
- 49:13Mountain. We're going to be reflecting.
- 49:15We're going to be talking about this year's event, some of the
- 49:18things that were going on, some of the highlights, some of the
- 49:20things that we learned and. If you guys are.
- 49:24Are going to want to listen and tune into this.
- 49:26Live broadcast. You will be given a chance to to
- 49:28ask the panelists questions about the event, about anything
- 49:34you know that you have on your mind.
- 49:38So TuneIn on Friday, November 15th for that there will be an
- 49:41event posted on my socials, you know Facebook and and YouTube
- 49:46about it. So that's.
- 49:49Coming up in a couple. Of weeks I'm.
- 49:52Looking forward to that, but. Yeah, it's it's very appropriate
- 49:55to be. Coming returning back from from
- 49:59this year's men's. Spiritual retreat.
- 50:01Leadership Summit. That was named.
- 50:04Spirit Road to have this. Thing of of of spirit health and
- 50:09and then working in spirit be such a prevalent thing for me in
- 50:12my mind. I continue to walk this spirit
- 50:17Rd. So that's that's going to do it
- 50:21for today. Hope you all enjoyed.
- 50:23This episode if you did. You know, share it around.
- 50:28A vote it like it. Download it whatever you know
- 50:30you can to to show your support in that sort of way and I.
- 50:35Appreciate all of your. Continued and ongoing support
- 50:37and understanding as I go and navigate through these things
- 50:41that I'm discovering now and and figuring out.
- 50:44So thank you, Robert. For this for this topic to talk
- 50:48about this. Week it was great timing I.
- 50:50Appreciate it and thank you. Especially to all my patrons on
- 50:53Patreon that continue to pledge your.
- 50:54Support at whatever tier that works.
- 50:57For you, to everybody else, thank you all.
