- 0:00Aloha. Saturday morning. High surf is rolling through the south shores through Sunday evening, and trade winds are easing as a low-pressure system moves in from the north. I'm Mele with what's happening in Hawaiʻi today.
- 1:30Lighter winds and afternoon clouds this weekend, with scattered showers inland and on the leeward sides. Nights will clear. If you're heading to a summit or the Hāna Highway, today and tomorrow are your window before conditions shift Monday.
- 1:42South-facing shores are moderate through Sunday — Waikiki's running 4.5 feet, Kauaʻi's Hanalei at 5.1. Watch for shore break and rip currents. North and east shores are much calmer — Hapuna on the Big Island is glass at 1.6 feet, Kāʻanapali is comfortable at 3.6. Safer call for swimmers and snorkelers today.
- 1:57Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park has two trails closed this weekend — Kīpukapuaulu Trail and the Lava Tube Bridge. Kīlauea is at Advisory level, and volcanic ash is a concern if you're heading to the summit. Otherwise, parks are operating normally.
- 2:10If you're planning a snorkel trip for late summer, our latest piece on Hawaiʻi's late-summer snorkel window is worth a read. Mid-August through mid-September usually brings the year's calmest water — places like Hanauma Bay and Molokini settle down, and visibility stays sharp. The post walks through where to go on every island and what to book ahead for.
- 2:27Monday through Wednesday, frequent showers move in across all islands as moisture arrives from the southeast. Trade winds will pick back up by late week.
- 2:35Make the most of calm north and east shores this weekend. Catch you tomorrow.
