- 0:00Speaker 1: He is 45 minutes into his first day, and he's
- 0:02Speaker 1: Googling what his own job title stands for.
- 0:05Speaker 2: He believes the manager is trying to poison him.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Oh, I stopped working at 2 o'clock. That's when my
- 0:10Speaker 3: day ends.
- 0:13Speaker 2: This is The Bad Hire, the show with the best
- 0:15Speaker 2: stories about the worst employees.
- 0:18Speaker 4: We fired him, of course.
- 0:19Speaker 2: People are crazy.
- 0:20Speaker 3: It's like an HR nightmare.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Right? One bad hire stole all of it.
- 0:25Speaker 4: Crazy stuff. She got what she deserved.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Oh.
- 0:29Speaker 2: I'm your host, Ken Monroe, and every week we dive
- 0:32Speaker 2: into real-life stories from the wild world of work and
- 0:36Speaker 2: what can happen when the wrong person gets the job.
- 0:40Speaker 2: These stories aren't just crazy. They're cautionary tales about lessons
- 0:44Speaker 2: learned the hard way. Let's get started.
- 0:49Speaker 1: All right.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Hey, everyone. Welcome back to The Bad Hire, the show
- 0:51Speaker 2: with the best stories about some of the worst employee
- 0:54Speaker 2: experiences or employees. I'm back today with Morgan.
- 0:58Speaker 3: Hey, guys.
- 0:59Speaker 2: And Corey. Hey, hey. Bro, welcome back, bro. How many
- 1:02Speaker 2: times have you been on? You've been on like twice?
- 1:03Speaker 2: You've done like two shows?
- 1:04Speaker 3: This is my second time.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Oh, this is. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Well, he did two episodes the first time.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Yeah, he did two.
- 1:09Speaker 4: So third episode.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Third episode. Second time.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Same day, though. Yeah, yeah. Good stuff.
- 1:15Speaker 4: Long filming day.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Glad to be back.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Welcome back. I encourage everyone to look Corey up on TikTok.
- 1:28Speaker 3: I love it.
- 1:29Speaker 2: I do. I love it when you guys have a
- 1:31Speaker 2: creative outlet. I think it's cool. Thank you. I do.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I love it. In fact, if you, you know, however
- 1:40Speaker 2: I can help.
- 1:41Speaker 4: You guys can follow me on LinkedIn. I don't have TikTok.
- 1:46Speaker 2: Oh, man. So, you guys are okay?
- 1:49Speaker 4: Yeah, doing good.
- 1:50Speaker 2: We're good?
- 1:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:51Speaker 3: Every day's a holiday.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:53Speaker 2: You're having fun, aren't you? I am. You're having fun
- 1:55Speaker 2: over here. I love that, bro. Corey's having fun at work.
- 1:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I think he's working hard. I left here last night, like,
- 2:01Speaker 2: I don't know, late. And I walked out and Corey
- 2:04Speaker 2: was still, he was still going at it. I was
- 2:07Speaker 2: going back and forth.
- 2:08Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It was awesome.
- 2:08Speaker 4: That's what happens when you have California as your state.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 2:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:11Speaker 3: I also have Hawaii, but I'm going to have to
- 2:13Speaker 3: be up until midnight for that one.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, man.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that's, yeah. So, hey, listen, you guys know the drill.
- 2:21Speaker 2: We dive into the wildest, the weirdest, you know, we
- 2:24Speaker 2: try to find some joll. Jaw dropping stories. So just
- 2:28Speaker 2: some fun, some fun hiring fails, you know, like OG
- 2:32Speaker 2: kind of flame outs or first day burnouts, you know,
- 2:34Speaker 2: whatever it is. And, you know, we tell the stories
- 2:39Speaker 2: and I guess, you know, we're just trying to have
- 2:41Speaker 2: a little fun. Hiring is tough work and finding great
- 2:45Speaker 2: people is a hard business. And so recruiters should be
- 2:49Speaker 2: and talent acquisition people should be applauded for the hard
- 2:53Speaker 2: work that they do every day. And they do have
- 2:56Speaker 2: to deal with a lot of experiences like this. So
- 3:01Speaker 2: I don't know. We hope they have fun. And then
- 3:03Speaker 2: we've got this $ 10, 000 contest going. Hey, if you've got
- 3:06Speaker 2: a story, if you're hiring people, I know you got
- 3:08Speaker 2: a story, right? Everyone's got a story. So if you've
- 3:10Speaker 2: got a story, submit it to us. Go to thebadhire.com
- 3:14Speaker 2: and submit the story. All right. You can let us
- 3:18Speaker 2: know that you want to do a segment on the story.
- 3:19Speaker 2: We're happy to do that. We'll let you tell your
- 3:22Speaker 2: own story or read your story. whatever it is. But
- 3:25Speaker 2: at the end of the year, we're going to select
- 3:26Speaker 2: somebody to win $ 10, 000. So write your story, submit it.
- 3:30Speaker 2: You know, heck, shoot your shot, as Morgan says. And
- 3:35Speaker 2: so let's, you know, get that done. And we'd love
- 3:39Speaker 2: to see it, love to have you on the show.
- 3:40Speaker 2: And so, and, you know, I think so many people,
- 3:44Speaker 2: I love the ones that are submitted by recruiters because
- 3:47Speaker 2: I think they resonate so well with other people. People
- 3:49Speaker 2: are like, oh, yeah, I've had to totally. It's no,
- 3:52Speaker 2: you know, I think Like on every story, you know,
- 3:54Speaker 2: there's people out there that go, I totally.
- 3:56Speaker 1: We just had a crazy submission, I want to say
- 3:59Speaker 1: last week, to the point where I was like, this
- 4:01Speaker 1: is so niche that I'm like, I can't even believe
- 4:04Speaker 1: this happened to somebody. So hopefully that ends up in
- 4:07Speaker 1: one of these episodes here soon. I don't know if
- 4:09Speaker 1: it might.
- 4:10Speaker 4: Get flagged, but it was crazy. We love those, though,
- 4:14Speaker 4: so please send them.
- 4:15Speaker 2: Yeah, keep sending them.
- 4:15Speaker 4: It makes us laugh.
- 4:16Speaker 2: Yeah, thebadhire.com. Submit your story for a chance to win.
- 4:20Speaker 2: All right? Get it done. All right, here we go.
- 4:24Speaker 2: I've got one here. I had it. Here we go.
- 4:29Speaker 2: This is submitted. It is anonymous, but this is still
- 4:33Speaker 2: for the money. All right.
- 4:34Speaker 1: OK, cool.
- 4:35Speaker 2: All right. So I had an employee submitted his resume
- 4:38Speaker 2: via email and we interviewed and hired. There were no
- 4:42Speaker 2: red flags in the interview or any initial interaction. So
- 4:46Speaker 2: no red flags at all. He's paired with his field
- 4:49Speaker 2: manager and they began working together. And on day two,
- 4:54Speaker 2: he believes the manager is trying to position him through
- 4:59Speaker 2: his water? Oh, wait. On day two, he believes the
- 5:04Speaker 2: manager is trying to poison him through his water. He
- 5:11Speaker 2: then believed every day that someone was breaking into his
- 5:14Speaker 2: car and spraying bleach on all his stuff, including his
- 5:20Speaker 2: sealed bags. This then escalated to him believing he was
- 5:24Speaker 2: poisoned by airborne drugs, leading him to go to the hospital. I,
- 5:30Speaker 2: HR manager, stepped in with investigations, of course, but he
- 5:34Speaker 2: had no proof that his manager was doing it. During
- 5:38Speaker 2: that sit down, he explained to me the matrix, voodoo, karma,
- 5:45Speaker 2: and spiritual debt, among other things he explained to him.
- 5:49Speaker 2: This conversation went on for an hour. I then decided
- 5:52Speaker 2: to put him on a new site with a new manager.
- 5:55Speaker 2: He then believed that all the managers are spirit. He
- 5:59Speaker 2: then believed that all the managers were spiritual entities trying
- 6:03Speaker 2: to harm him. And this new manager was trying to
- 6:06Speaker 2: kill him with heroin. After five trips to the ER
- 6:12Speaker 2: with inconclusive results, He was put in a 72-hour hold.
- 6:16Speaker 2: He then quit. No one has been poisoned before or
- 6:19Speaker 2: after his employment, his four-week employment.
- 6:25Speaker 4: That person might have mental health issues.
- 6:28Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 6:29Speaker 2: I think this story is sad.
- 6:31Speaker 4: He might have like schizophrenia or something.
- 6:33Speaker 2: I think this story is sad. That's what it kind
- 6:34Speaker 2: of reads to me. It's certainly not funny.
- 6:36Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:36Speaker 2: But it does let you know what you have to
- 6:40Speaker 2: put up with and the types of challenges you have.
- 6:44Speaker 2: When you're an HR professional, I mean, this HR professional
- 6:47Speaker 2: is listening to all of this. They're going to accept it.
- 6:50Speaker 2: It sounds like she didn't, didn't judge. She, she, you know,
- 6:53Speaker 2: the HR person, I don't know if it's a man
- 6:55Speaker 2: or woman, then moves them to a different site with
- 7:01Speaker 2: a different manager to try to meet them. Maybe it
- 7:03Speaker 2: has something to do with the manager. And so, you know, then,
- 7:07Speaker 2: then it's, you know, then it's, well, it's all managers. And,
- 7:10Speaker 2: you know, I had a similar situation in my, career
- 7:15Speaker 2: where an employee who believed we were poisoning her and she,
- 7:19Speaker 2: she believed, yes.
- 7:21Speaker 1: Wow.
- 7:22Speaker 2: She, she believed we were putting things into the air
- 7:25Speaker 2: that were near her desk to blow chemicals onto her.
- 7:31Speaker 2: And she just was on and on about how she
- 7:34Speaker 2: was having these health problems and health issues. And, you know,
- 7:39Speaker 2: she smoked laborious through the whole day. And, but she,
- 7:45Speaker 2: you know, she was having these breathing issues and she
- 7:46Speaker 2: was blaming it on us for, for that. So it got.
- 7:50Speaker 4: Did you like actually believe that or was she trying to.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Get a compensation? No, I think she believed it. I
- 7:55Speaker 2: think she was just mentally ill. Right. And so we
- 7:59Speaker 2: actually hired.
- 8:02Speaker 1: A.
- 8:02Speaker 4: Investigator.
- 8:03Speaker 2: An investigator or a company that does air testing and
- 8:07Speaker 2: move this air testing machine while this guy monitored it.
- 8:11Speaker 2: And next to her cubicle for multiple hours, paid a
- 8:15Speaker 2: couple thousand dollars to have it done.
- 8:17Speaker 4: Holy cow.
- 8:18Speaker 2: And to show her, you know, hey.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Hey, you're good.
- 8:21Speaker 2: And it still didn't work out for her, you know,
- 8:24Speaker 2: in terms of she just couldn't break through that thought,
- 8:28Speaker 2: you know.
- 8:28Speaker 4: That's really sad.
- 8:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it really is. But, you know, we were– we
- 8:33Speaker 2: did– we're just kind of following HR teams rules, you know,
- 8:36Speaker 2: or their idea. Hey, let's verify because if let's make
- 8:40Speaker 2: sure there's not, we're not putting chemicals in there, but
- 8:42Speaker 2: let's make sure there's not some chemical, you know, and
- 8:45Speaker 2: she's got a hypersensitivity to chemicals. So we, I mean, we,
- 8:49Speaker 2: you know, attempted and, but it's a great story of,
- 8:52Speaker 2: of just the challenges HR faces and, and, and what
- 8:58Speaker 2: they have to deal with and that, you know, hoping
- 8:59Speaker 2: they got, you know, this person, uh, help.
- 9:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:04Speaker 2: They, you know, ended up with the hospital. So for sure. Uh,
- 9:07Speaker 2: good stuff. HR could be heroes in a lot of ways.
- 9:09Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 9:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:09Speaker 3: It's really all you can do in that situation too.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Yeah. Before we dive back into the chaos on the
- 9:15Speaker 2: bad hire, this episode is brought to you by B checks.
- 9:18Speaker 2: Hiring shouldn't feel like rolling the dice. Background checks should
- 9:21Speaker 2: come with great tech, seamless integration and customer service that delivers.

- 9:50Speaker 2: to bchecks.io. That's B-C-H-E-X dot I-O. All right, so, oh,
- 9:58Speaker 2: I've got... Riverside. Oh, this is Matt.
- 10:01Speaker 4: Yeah, we have a Riverside story sent in.
- 10:03Speaker 2: I love Matt, man. He's from the south somewhere. I
- 10:06Speaker 2: love his accent. He had another story in a different
- 10:12Speaker 2: episode that I saw, or maybe one that's coming up.
- 10:17Speaker 5: There's a girl who was hired by the manager of
- 10:19Speaker 5: that store about two weeks prior to me showing up.
- 10:22Speaker 5: And she was hired in sales, and she seemed like
- 10:24Speaker 5: a nice young lady from speaking with her. But day
- 10:26Speaker 5: two of me being there, the office manager comes to me,
- 10:29Speaker 5: and she asked if the girl had asked for time
- 10:32Speaker 5: off yet, which she hadn't. And I asked why. Why
- 10:35Speaker 5: did she ask that? Apparently, she had mentioned to somebody
- 10:38Speaker 5: in the office a Vegas trip in two weeks that
- 10:41Speaker 5: she was going to be on for a week. And
- 10:43Speaker 5: she'd also been looking up plane tickets for it for
- 10:46Speaker 5: the trip on the work computer and left it up
- 10:49Speaker 5: so other people could see. So it was pretty easy
- 10:52Speaker 5: to track that down. She did come to me at
- 10:55Speaker 5: the end of my first week and she asked for
- 10:57Speaker 5: the time off. And it did line up perfectly with
- 10:59Speaker 5: the Vegas trip, but she claimed it was for a
- 11:01Speaker 5: medical procedure. After she claimed for the medical procedure, The
- 11:04Speaker 5: dates line up. I'm like, I need you to bring
- 11:06Speaker 5: in a doctor's note. Since you're going to be out
- 11:07Speaker 5: and you just started, you know, I need a doctor's
- 11:09Speaker 5: note to file that so I can get that time
- 11:11Speaker 5: off approved for you. So at that time, she said, yep,
- 11:13Speaker 5: I'll bring it in. My mom was going to bring
- 11:15Speaker 5: it in this afternoon.
- 11:16Speaker 2: That never happened.
- 11:17Speaker 5: You know, Monday rolls around to the next week. She
- 11:19Speaker 5: was going to bring it in. She can't find it.
- 11:21Speaker 5: A few days go by. If I'm not mistaken, it
- 11:24Speaker 5: is the Thursday, the end of the week where she's
- 11:26Speaker 5: supposed to be gone that following week. And she brings
- 11:28Speaker 5: it in on that Thursday. It is a very obvious fake.
- 11:32Speaker 5: It has several spots that were photocopied to make the
- 11:34Speaker 5: head or footer. Only part of the signature and the
- 11:37Speaker 5: doctor's name was even on the paper. So I relay
- 11:39Speaker 5: all this to my supervisor. And after hearing back, we
- 11:42Speaker 5: decided it was best to go ahead and terminate her
- 11:45Speaker 5: employment at that point.
- 11:48Speaker 1: I've never heard of Vegas being a medical center. I mean, like,
- 11:52Speaker 1: you know, there's a lot of places that I'm like, oh, yeah,
- 11:55Speaker 1: that's a really popular place to go get a medical procedure.
- 11:57Speaker 4: Vegas is not one of them.
- 11:59Speaker 1: Right.
- 11:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:00Speaker 3: I didn't know blackjack could heal.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:02Speaker 4: Maybe that's, she was looking for therapy. Maybe that's what
- 12:05Speaker 4: she wanted.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:08Speaker 2: Yeah. That might be what it was. It was actually,
- 12:10Speaker 2: it was actually therapy that she was.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Going on a spiritual journey.
- 12:13Speaker 2: I need some, I need some fun therapy. I, you know,
- 12:17Speaker 2: when I watched that, I was like, you know, the,
- 12:20Speaker 2: it's like the second story in a row where I'm
- 12:23Speaker 2: just like, man, HR folks are just dealing with it
- 12:26Speaker 2: every day. You know, like, It's like right off the bat.
- 12:30Speaker 2: You hire somebody and you're like, whew, hire them. And
- 12:33Speaker 2: then immediately watching them come off the rails, that's.
- 12:37Speaker 1: I don't know why you would search plane tickets also
- 12:40Speaker 1: on your work computer.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Yeah. Unless it's a work trip. I don't know. It's
- 12:46Speaker 4: kind of crazy.
- 12:48Speaker 5: All right.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't think I would care if
- 12:51Speaker 2: someone was planning their vacation and took a few minutes
- 12:55Speaker 2: at work to look up a ticket.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:58Speaker 4: Well, if I knew I was going to lie about it.
- 12:59Speaker 3: It's just a line.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the issue, right?
- 13:03Speaker 4: If I knew I was going to lie.
- 13:05Speaker 2: I'm going to be in the hospital next week.
- 13:08Speaker 4: Excursions in Vegas.
- 13:10Speaker 2: That's a little different.
- 13:12Speaker 4: Best casinos to go to while in Vegas.
- 13:15Speaker 2: All right, Morgan, what do you got? All right.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Post-surgery, best casino to go to.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Anyways, my story today is, so I worked at a
- 13:22Speaker 1: mid-sized firm, and we'd been searching for someone to head
- 13:25Speaker 1: up a project management office for months. We were talking
- 13:27Speaker 1: a stack of resumes a mile high. After all that,
- 13:32Speaker 1: we finally landed on a guy. Let's call him Brandon. Oh, Brendan. Okay,
- 13:36Speaker 1: I'm just going to say Brandon. Brandon Seaview was frankly immaculate.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Leadership roles at three different companies, decades of experience in
- 13:43Speaker 1: the field, glowing references across the board. We were genuinely
- 13:47Speaker 1: excited to bring him on. He starts on Monday.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Morning.
- 13:50Speaker 1: We fill him in with a welcome tour. We walk
- 13:52Speaker 1: him through the team and hand him his laptop, the
- 13:55Speaker 1: whole nine yards. Around 10 to 15, he mentions that
- 13:57Speaker 1: he's going to step out for his first coffee break.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Now a coworker happens to be at the same coffee shop.
- 14:02Speaker 1: He spots Brandon in line and walks over to say hello.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Brandon is on the phone mid Google search and the
- 14:08Speaker 1: screen is right there in plain sight. He's Googling what
- 14:11Speaker 1: is PMO. To be very clear about what that means, PMO,
- 14:15Speaker 1: project management office, is the entire role. The entire thing
- 14:18Speaker 1: we hired him to lead. He is 45 minutes into
- 14:21Speaker 1: his first day and he's Googling what his own job
- 14:24Speaker 1: title stands for. The co-worker takes a photo, walks back
- 14:27Speaker 1: to the office, and shows the boss. We immediately dig
- 14:29Speaker 1: into the references. Every single one of them were fake.
- 14:33Speaker 1: By Wednesday afternoon, Brandon is being walked out of the
- 14:35Speaker 1: building three days in with a total tenure of about
- 14:39Speaker 1: 51 hours. And his last act in any official capacity
- 14:43Speaker 1: was Googling what those three letters meant.
- 14:45Speaker 3: Dude.
- 14:47Speaker 2: We should have a contest. We should have a contest
- 14:50Speaker 2: like for the, because that's two stories that list the
- 14:52Speaker 2: total hours. We should have a contest for like the quickest.
- 14:56Speaker 5: Fires?
- 14:56Speaker 2: Yeah, like the quickest. This one was 21 minutes.
- 15:00Speaker 1: That was like 30 minutes, right? When it was like
- 15:02Speaker 1: the guy who was like, oh, I think it was
- 15:03Speaker 1: like a developer.
- 15:04Speaker 4: And he's like, I won't read a woman's code or something.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Wasn't that like a really quick one too?
- 15:07Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:08Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of some crazy ones we've had.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Kind of first day flame outs. I don't know. Yeah,
- 15:13Speaker 2: there's been a lot.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Well, I have a second story today, too, actually. I
- 15:17Speaker 1: run a convenience store, nothing fancy, just a couple of
- 15:20Speaker 1: registers and a lotto kiosk, the usual setup. We bring
- 15:23Speaker 1: on a new clerk and her first shift gets off
- 15:25Speaker 1: to a pretty uneventful start for about 15 minutes before
- 15:28Speaker 1: my phone pings with a notification from the security cam app.
- 15:32Speaker 4: I open it up and.
- 15:33Speaker 1: There she is behind the counter scratching off lottery tickets.
- 15:37Speaker 1: No customer lottery tickets are lottery tickets.
- 15:39Speaker 2: No way.
- 15:40Speaker 1: The ones that had not been purchased yet. I keep
- 15:44Speaker 1: watching because at this point, I genuinely have to know
- 15:46Speaker 1: how this ends. She is hunched over with a full
- 15:49Speaker 1: stack with a coin in hand, completely going to town,
- 15:52Speaker 1: not even attempting to.
- 15:53Speaker 4: Be subtle about it.
- 15:54Speaker 1: This goes on for 20 solid minutes before I finally
- 15:57Speaker 1: get in my car and I drive over to the
- 15:58Speaker 1: gas station. When I walk in, she doesn't even notice
- 16:01Speaker 1: me because she is mid-scratch on one of the tickets.
- 16:03Speaker 1: I tap the counter.
- 16:04Speaker 4: She freezes and I just look at her and I say,
- 16:07Speaker 4: how's day one going? She goes, um, fine.
- 16:11Speaker 1: And I told her she didn't work here anymore. The
- 16:14Speaker 1: really sad part was I checked the pile after she left.
- 16:16Speaker 1: She didn't even win.
- 16:19Speaker 3: You got Vegas in one story.
- 16:22Speaker 2: Seriously, I will guarantee you that's not the first time
- 16:24Speaker 2: this happened at a place who's done that. Because you
- 16:27Speaker 2: would think like, hey, I'll just start scratching until I
- 16:30Speaker 2: hit the winner and I'll be able to pay back.
- 16:32Speaker 2: pay off all the cards and make some money yeah
- 16:34Speaker 2: but oh my gosh.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I know like i know like you know a lottery
- 16:38Speaker 1: ticket or a scratch off like or i mean i've
- 16:41Speaker 1: never done it before so like i mean are they
- 16:42Speaker 1: the same thing like.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Well the lottery tickets you buy numbers and you gotta
- 16:47Speaker 2: you gotta watch and the numbers come out right and
- 16:49Speaker 2: you gotta match the number scratch offs are like well
- 16:52Speaker 2: she actively win a dollar two dollars five dollars there's
- 16:56Speaker 2: tons of scratch offs.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Yeah they're in I was going to say, was she
- 16:59Speaker 1: like watching the TV to see if one of the
- 17:01Speaker 1: numbers hit or was she just like.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Who? The lady. The manager?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:05Speaker 4: Or no, not the manager.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Well, no, no, no, no. When you do the scratch off,
- 17:09Speaker 2: she's doing scratch off.
- 17:10Speaker 4: That's what she was doing because it said lotto tickets.
- 17:12Speaker 2: Yeah. So she's doing scratch off. She said scratch them off.
- 17:14Speaker 2: So when you scratch it off, if you get like
- 17:16Speaker 2: three matching, four matching, you could win. It'll tell you
- 17:18Speaker 2: win $ 1, win $ 2. And so you're like. you know,
- 17:25Speaker 2: or win nothing, right? So maybe you buy five cards,
- 17:27Speaker 2: you win two bucks, right? So, you know, or 10
- 17:31Speaker 2: or $ 20, but you know, the cards cost you 25.
- 17:34Speaker 2: So you lost $ 5 in the deal, right? But if
- 17:37Speaker 2: you were to sit and go through a ton of them,
- 17:40Speaker 2: you might stumble on the card that's $ 5, 000.
- 17:41Speaker 4: Well, it sounds like she didn't win anything, so.
- 17:44Speaker 2: No, yeah.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Dude, those things are a rip off.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Deal.
- 17:48Speaker 3: I was one away from like 20,000. They played me hard, man.
- 17:51Speaker 4: Oh my God.
- 17:52Speaker 2: I'm sweating. I was like, One more. Get my hopes up.
- 17:58Speaker 4: That's hilarious.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Oh, gosh.
- 18:01Speaker 3: All righty.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Well, what do you got? What do you got for us, Corey?
- 18:04Speaker 3: I believe this story is going to be similar to
- 18:07Speaker 3: your first one. And like, how quickly can you get fired? Oh, cool.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Okay.
- 18:12Speaker 3: So I manage a small office and we bring on
- 18:15Speaker 3: a new admin. She came across really well in the interview.
- 18:19Speaker 3: References checked out the whole thing. Solid hire on paper.
- 18:23Speaker 3: which I feel like everyone's a solid hire on.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Am I right?
- 18:26Speaker 3: Day one, I sit her down with our senior admin
- 18:29Speaker 3: to go through training. Pretty standard stuff. The calendar system,
- 18:32Speaker 3: the ticket queue, the phones. Around two o'clock in the afternoon,
- 18:36Speaker 3: the senior admin comes into my office, closes the door
- 18:39Speaker 3: behind her and tells me she thinks we have a problem.
- 18:42Speaker 3: I asked what's going on and she says the new
- 18:44Speaker 3: admin just stopped paying attention mid-training and has been on
- 18:47Speaker 3: her phone ever since. So I walk out to her
- 18:50Speaker 3: desk and ask if everything's okay, letting her know we've
- 18:53Speaker 3: still got a few hours of training to get through.
- 18:55Speaker 3: She looks up from her phone and without even a
- 18:57Speaker 3: hint of self-awareness says, oh, I stopped working at two o'clock.
- 19:02Speaker 3: That's when my day ends. I just stare at her
- 19:06Speaker 3: for a second. I said, I'm sorry, what? And she
- 19:10Speaker 3: said it again, completely calm. Like this was a perfectly
- 19:13Speaker 3: reasonable thing to say on your first day of a job.
- 19:16Speaker 3: Now the job description said nine to five, the offer
- 19:19Speaker 3: letter said nine to five. I'd personally walked her through
- 19:22Speaker 3: the schedule that same morning. So I remind her that
- 19:24Speaker 3: we work until five and she looks at me and goes, well,
- 19:27Speaker 3: that doesn't really work for me. I told her she
- 19:31Speaker 3: could go. She seemed genuinely surprised and asked like for
- 19:34Speaker 3: the day. And I said, like forever.
- 19:40Speaker 4: Who works to 2 o'clock?
- 19:42Speaker 1: Any job is standard 9 to 5. That's why Dolly
- 19:45Speaker 1: Parton wrote the song 9 to 5, not 9 to 2, girl.
- 19:50Speaker 2: We have so many stories of people who are bailing.
- 19:55Speaker 2: You remember the one guy who doesn't show and then
- 19:58Speaker 2: he's like, well, can I leave early? And then by
- 20:00Speaker 2: the third day, he's like, can I go hybrid?
- 20:02Speaker 3: So basically my takeaway from that is Morgan and I
- 20:07Speaker 3: are good to go at two today, Ken. Yeah.
- 20:10Speaker 4: That sounds good to me.
- 20:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:12Speaker 2: You know, my favorite line in there, what you said
- 20:15Speaker 2: in that story was, and you said something about it
- 20:17Speaker 2: was like, it's a solid hire on paper. And you're like, well,
- 20:20Speaker 2: isn't everyone, like day one on day, but when they started,
- 20:23Speaker 2: everyone was, it was a solid hire on paper.
- 20:26Speaker 4: Everybody's resumes are pretty good.
- 20:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 20:29Speaker 2: When you get a t-shirt that says solid hire on paper.
- 20:31Speaker 4: There you go.
- 20:32Speaker 2: AI is a new little thing. You know?
- 20:34Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:36Speaker 2: Then day one came.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Yep. Wow. I don't know. At least her references checked out.
- 20:42Speaker 1: The other guys' references were all fake.
- 20:44Speaker 4: So, hey.
- 20:45Speaker 2: That's true.
- 20:45Speaker 4: At least she was being honest.
- 20:47Speaker 2: That's got to be, like, super challenging, like, just incredibly frustrating.
- 20:53Speaker 2: You know, you get the role. Clearly, there's a startup.
- 20:56Speaker 2: It's hard. You got a training thing to go through.
- 20:58Speaker 2: It sounded like they had a training class, which means
- 21:00Speaker 2: they had to do multiple people. And so, now... On
- 21:06Speaker 2: day one, you got somebody who's like, after you told
- 21:08Speaker 2: them over and over, it's nine to five, they're like
- 21:11Speaker 2: bailing at two and you got to start over. You
- 21:14Speaker 2: know what I mean? It's ridiculous. I mean, just like,
- 21:18Speaker 2: it's got to be incredibly frustrating when you're like, I
- 21:22Speaker 2: don't even know where to begin.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 21:23Speaker 2: I told you nine to five, told you it was
- 21:26Speaker 2: still five o'clock.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 21:27Speaker 2: You know? It's so weird. I don't know.
- 21:30Speaker 5: I mean, oh.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Hey, man, that's it for us today. That was those
- 21:36Speaker 2: are good. I appreciate it. We heard a lot of
- 21:38Speaker 2: stories around the last couple of shows around resume fraud
- 21:43Speaker 2: and all that. And so I thought they were good. But,
- 21:48Speaker 2: you know, I forgot to I forgot to mention that
- 21:53Speaker 2: I mentioned at the beginning of the show about the
- 21:54Speaker 2: ten thousand dollars. I think you did. Okay, good.
- 21:57Speaker 4: You can always say it again.
- 21:58Speaker 2: $ 1, 000 up in the.
- 21:59Speaker 4: Line, guys.
- 22:00Speaker 2: We appreciate it. This is the bad hour. Subscribe, rate, review, share,
- 22:05Speaker 2: whatever you can do. We appreciate the follows and the followers.
- 22:08Speaker 2: It's actually growing. It's shocking. Just continue at it. And
- 22:14Speaker 2: don't forget, we could win $ 10, 000. So shoot your shot.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Send your story in. We'll see what's up. You go
- 22:20Speaker 2: to thebadhire.com to do that. And you can say, maybe
- 22:24Speaker 2: you want to do a feature or a segment where
- 22:26Speaker 2: we do what we did with Matt. We'd love to
- 22:29Speaker 2: have you do that. So that'd be cool.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Yeah, for sure.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:32Speaker 2: So thanks for listening. We'll see you next time.
- 22:34Speaker 4: Thanks, guys.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Thank you.
