- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome back to Artists on Artists on Artists on artists.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Bang bang pan, It's time for another special episode.
- 0:16Speaker 2: Falling Down has been one of the largest forms of
- 0:19Speaker 2: comedy since the beginning of mankind, and a very special
- 0:24Speaker 2: group of Internet creators, comedians and curators have come together
- 0:30Speaker 2: to create what we all know and love as Fail Army.
- 0:35Speaker 3: That's right, Fail Army, The smash hit early two thousands
- 0:39Speaker 3: YouTube channel featuring people falling down the stairs, falling off
- 0:43Speaker 3: of surfboards, and falling onto their nuts could not be
- 0:46Speaker 3: what it was without the Fail Army writers Room.
- 0:50Speaker 4: We gathered all of these writers of Fail Army today
- 0:54Speaker 4: in a room to talk process. Get ready to fail.
- 0:58Speaker 4: This is the greatest lit in Then.
- 1:06Speaker 3: Here we are. Here, we are all in a room
- 1:10Speaker 3: together again. The O five team had it.
- 1:16Speaker 1: The four bastards back together.
- 1:21Speaker 5: The four are bastards, four bastards. Someone's wearing the merch.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Someone's gotta no.
- 1:29Speaker 6: But I like, imagine a monkey throwing ship at that.
- 1:31Speaker 6: Imagine a monkey throwing ship at that.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Imagine imagine a toddler wearing that and getting hit in
- 1:38Speaker 2: the head with a swing.
- 1:39Speaker 7: Oh yeah, but if the toddler and the monkey kind
- 1:44Speaker 7: of got together and then they and then they hit
- 1:46Speaker 7: each other until one of them cried yeah yeah.
- 1:50Speaker 6: Or the toddler's writing a pig around and there's like
- 1:52Speaker 6: a fun song playing, and then the monkey's chasing the
- 1:55Speaker 6: pig and the toddler with an axe, oh yeah.
- 1:57Speaker 5: And they laying on a swing and then the swing
- 1:59Speaker 5: hits some mother of all.
- 2:07Speaker 3: This is what I miss, This is what I miss.
- 2:09Speaker 3: Where are you going? Where's he going?
- 2:11Speaker 4: Is he don't drop those pieces of paper?
- 2:14Speaker 5: Like I need a pen? I just some of this.
- 2:18Speaker 3: You said you needed to piss. I'm like, that's a
- 2:19Speaker 3: different video.
- 2:22Speaker 6: Imagine if I needed to piss, Like, imagine a video
- 2:24Speaker 6: of like man needs to piss, but line is too long.
- 2:26Speaker 1: That's funny.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Imagine himself and it's his child's play, he said the
- 2:32Speaker 3: auditorium and he stands up and all the cameras turn
- 2:34Speaker 3: to him instead of the kids.
- 2:35Speaker 5: Yeah, and.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Imagine imagine I pee on my own feet and I
- 2:40Speaker 2: slipped because I'm on a skateboard.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And imagine then the skateboard like hits you in the nuts.
- 2:46Speaker 6: And then the teenager goes, oh yeah.
- 2:53Speaker 1: We got to introduce ourselves before we get to the graded.
- 2:56Speaker 3: We could do this all day. We like this room.
- 3:01Speaker 3: This was a great room.
- 3:02Speaker 1: I said, don't get me.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I said, don't get me in a room with these
- 3:05Speaker 2: people again unless you're ready for what's gonna come out
- 3:07Speaker 2: of it.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Because I just knew it.
- 3:08Speaker 2: I just knew i'd feel like I was when I
- 3:11Speaker 2: was fourteen again when we first started this room, I
- 3:13Speaker 2: just knew i'd feel like this.
- 3:15Speaker 3: Yeh yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, So let's get into it right, yeah,
- 3:21Speaker 3: just for the listener.
- 3:22Speaker 6: Like fail Army, basically we kind of started fail Army.
- 3:25Speaker 6: We are the writer's room of fail Army. I know
- 3:27Speaker 6: what you guys are thinking. Fail Army is a collection
- 3:29Speaker 6: of people failing, messing up silly high jinks, and you
- 3:33Speaker 6: guys think it's all natural and all people that are
- 3:36Speaker 6: accidentally doing this. No, every video is actually written, and
- 3:40Speaker 6: it was written by us, and kind of still is
- 3:42Speaker 6: written by us. I mean, we have a lot of
- 3:44Speaker 6: teams that like do it for us now, but like
- 3:47Speaker 6: we aren't in it. We're kind of the brainchild of it,
- 3:49Speaker 6: you know, yeah.
- 3:50Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, the failing Well, they call us the failing fathers.
- 3:55Speaker 6: The failing for fathers, the failing for father filing for fathers.
- 4:03Speaker 3: Okay, okay, let's go. I'm Lindsay. I'm Lindsay. I'm lindsay.
- 4:08Speaker 3: I uh was one of the original writer writers, sorry fail.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I was what I was in.
- 4:17Speaker 3: The writer's room and O five, like we said, the
- 4:19Speaker 3: founding forefailers, uh and I I came to this channel
- 4:25Speaker 3: by way of I used to be in the CIA,
- 4:29Speaker 3: and we would come up with new ways to torture people.
- 4:32Speaker 3: And so I was doing that for a while. I
- 4:35Speaker 3: was down at Guantanamo. I was like doing some really
- 4:37Speaker 3: fucked up ship and then I thought to myself, you
- 4:41Speaker 3: know this YouTube thing. I think it's the future, right,
- 4:44Speaker 3: I think it's the future. And I think I can
- 4:47Speaker 3: combine my love for comedy and my love for seeing
- 4:53Speaker 3: human beings experienced pain, and I think that I can
- 4:56Speaker 3: combine these both into a into a in to something
- 5:00Speaker 3: that's greater than all of us.
- 5:02Speaker 6: So that's kind of crazy, yeah, because like when you
- 5:05Speaker 6: showed up, you kind of showed up in a black car,
- 5:07Speaker 6: and this is kind of like it's been like a
- 5:09Speaker 6: year since you formally announced that you used to be
- 5:12Speaker 6: in the CIA. So like when you were pitching stuff,
- 5:14Speaker 6: a lot of the time we'd be like where did
- 5:16Speaker 6: you get this crazy zany idea for somebody to.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Be like And they were Zany and they were Saney.
- 5:23Speaker 4: It was when you formally announced it. It was a
- 5:26Speaker 4: wild day. Yeah, because we don't formally announce much in
- 5:30Speaker 4: the office, or we did before, and it was so formal.
- 5:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I'll tell you, guys what happened. I'll tell you guys.
- 5:37Speaker 3: What happened is that I was you know, I was
- 5:39Speaker 3: keeping this. I was keeping this secret inside for so
- 5:42Speaker 3: many years because I didn't want to be treated any differently.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I didn't want anybody to think of me in any
- 5:47Speaker 3: which way, and so I just pushed it down. I
- 5:50Speaker 3: pushed it down. I pushed it down, all the torture stuff.
- 5:52Speaker 3: But then I was visited by three goes. I got
- 5:55Speaker 3: Ebonizer scrooged no it Yeah. Yeah.
- 5:58Speaker 1: It changed my outline on.
- 6:00Speaker 3: Life, and so I knew that I needed to make
- 6:02Speaker 3: a huge announcement and devote my life to good and
- 6:07Speaker 3: kind of change the entire way that I was doing things.
- 6:09Speaker 3: So I made a big show of it. I remember
- 6:11Speaker 3: I made I sent out an email or I posted
- 6:14Speaker 3: you guys on Slack, and I was like, you guys,
- 6:16Speaker 3: it's black tie I'm so sorry it's black tie. You
- 6:19Speaker 3: got to come in because I got something big to say.
- 6:22Speaker 2: I just want to I want to give a special
- 6:23Speaker 2: shout out too, because I know that that hacker group Anonymous,
- 6:26Speaker 2: that's their newest thing.
- 6:27Speaker 5: They've been scrooging CIA workers.
- 6:30Speaker 2: And I just want to give a shout out today
- 6:31Speaker 2: because like it's pretty amazing. Like I know that they
- 6:33Speaker 2: used to like declassify documents and like kind of let
- 6:36Speaker 2: people know secrets, and now they're straight up scrooging all
- 6:40Speaker 2: sorts of like people.
- 6:41Speaker 5: I know they're scrooging Kissinger this week, and I'm really excited.
- 6:44Speaker 3: I cannot wait to see what Kissinger does after they
- 6:46Speaker 3: scrooge him, because I have a feeling it's about to
- 6:48Speaker 3: be huge.
- 6:49Speaker 1: It's gonna be I can't wait to see it. Yeah.
- 6:54Speaker 3: Yeah, So I I brought a sort of CIA energy
- 6:58Speaker 3: to fail Army, which is funny because when I was
- 7:01Speaker 3: in the CIA, I was kind of known as the
- 7:05Speaker 3: as the three Stooges. They called me three Stooge because
- 7:08Speaker 3: there's just one of me, but I was I brought
- 7:10Speaker 3: sort of a three stooges energy they called three stuges.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Yeah, three stooge three stooge.
- 7:18Speaker 6: Well that's what you said, Like when you started announcing
- 7:20Speaker 6: and talking about all the things here, I was like, yes,
- 7:22Speaker 6: of course art informs the artist, like the work that
- 7:25Speaker 6: you're doing at GMO being a three three stooge at
- 7:28Speaker 6: GMO Bay so funny three stuges.
- 7:33Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, you guys. I feel so guilty. It's unreal.
- 7:37Speaker 3: It is so unreal, so unbelievably.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Like I'm super jealous because, like I, I actually feel
- 7:43Speaker 2: like it was a misopportunity because when you announced it
- 7:45Speaker 2: a very formal meeting that you were part of the
- 7:47Speaker 2: CIA and you were part of the Torture Innovation Team,
- 7:50Speaker 2: which you said stands for tit for sure, we could
- 7:54Speaker 2: use that, like we could use it.
- 7:57Speaker 3: Yeah, that was me.
- 7:58Speaker 5: I know.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I wish I could have told you guys in there
- 8:00Speaker 3: so many times when I wanted to. There were so
- 8:02Speaker 3: many times when I would get a phone call from
- 8:04Speaker 3: the CIA, but I had to change their phone number
- 8:06Speaker 3: to mom and stuff like that so that you guys
- 8:08Speaker 3: would keep keep keep keep you guys. I want to
- 8:11Speaker 3: keep you guys on your toes. You guys. I love
- 8:14Speaker 3: you guys so much, And that was part of the
- 8:16Speaker 3: reason why I never went back to the CIA. I
- 8:19Speaker 3: wanted to start. I wanted to keep going with the
- 8:22Speaker 3: Fail Army, And I guess for the viewer where I'm
- 8:25Speaker 3: at right now with Fail Army is that I'm starting
- 8:28Speaker 3: a new chapter Fail Army called Fail Navy, and it
- 8:32Speaker 3: focuses on seafaring related accidents. So I'm the head writer
- 8:36Speaker 3: of that realm, and.
- 8:37Speaker 1: We're so excited.
- 8:38Speaker 6: There's got to be some great stuff coming out with that,
- 8:41Speaker 6: like shipwrecks, ships exploding, ship sinking, lots.
- 8:45Speaker 4: Of ship documents falling on the ground, attacks.
- 8:49Speaker 3: The document stuff is gonna be really funny.
- 8:52Speaker 5: I can't wait to see the documents.
- 8:54Speaker 1: To ship documents falling on the ground.
- 8:56Speaker 6: We got so many videos of ship documents falling on
- 8:59Speaker 6: the ground, and it's gonna blow your mind how funny
- 9:01Speaker 6: it is and how fail it is.
- 9:03Speaker 5: It's gonna be so fair.
- 9:05Speaker 3: You wouldn't think it would be, but you could tell,
- 9:07Speaker 3: as the viewer that the documents are kind of important.
- 9:10Speaker 5: That's crazy, man.
- 9:11Speaker 2: I'll introduce myself. My name is Stu. I came pretty starcuitously,
- 9:19Speaker 2: just like Lindsay. I came here through uh no mistake.
- 9:23Speaker 2: But I was previously a physics professor at Pepperdine University,
- 9:29Speaker 2: and I was the top physics researcher and scientist in
- 9:35Speaker 2: this country. I knew everything about physics. I know everything
- 9:40Speaker 2: about gravity.
- 9:43Speaker 3: I was the one gravity.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I am the guy who publicly shamed Neil de grass Tyson.
- 9:48Speaker 5: I called him an ass hat in front of the UN.
- 9:52Speaker 2: I have. I've done all sorts of things, and the
- 9:55Speaker 2: un agreed with me at the end. So let's just
- 9:58Speaker 2: say I know a thing or two. And I was
- 10:02Speaker 2: working in physics and then I had a one year
- 10:05Speaker 2: old and it changed my world because he got into
- 10:10Speaker 2: the clumsiest shit. And it was so funny because I
- 10:14Speaker 2: could see, you know, it's like it's like the matrix
- 10:17Speaker 2: when you're it's like in the scene of the Matrix
- 10:19Speaker 2: when they're looking at the numbers and they're like, oh,
- 10:20Speaker 2: I see the scene, and you're like, you're looking at numbers.
- 10:22Speaker 5: Pal.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I was looking at physics attack my one year old.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I was looking at gravity have its way with little Clive,
- 10:32Speaker 2: and and I said, this is honestly funniest shit, and
- 10:37Speaker 2: it was giving me so many ideas. My one year
- 10:40Speaker 2: old truly just anything and everything. We called him stretch
- 10:43Speaker 2: Armstrong because he just get his fingerstuck and stuff from
- 10:46Speaker 2: the way.
- 10:47Speaker 1: It was crazy. Is that one year old? Now eighteen? Now?
- 10:50Speaker 5: Yeah, isn't that crazy?
- 10:52Speaker 6: Now they can now they can legally fail. Now they
- 10:55Speaker 6: can legally fail.
- 10:56Speaker 5: Now he can.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Enlist in the fail Army.
- 11:00Speaker 3: Yeah, he was underage and.
- 11:02Speaker 6: Truly so many I think some of the best gems,
- 11:05Speaker 6: which we'll get to in this episode, but some of
- 11:07Speaker 6: the best James came from you talking about Clive in
- 11:09Speaker 6: the room.
- 11:10Speaker 1: He was doing, how he would use that. I mean,
- 11:12Speaker 1: you're it's at.
- 11:14Speaker 4: The intersection of physics and clumsy. Is where you start laughing, right,
- 11:19Speaker 4: And I think that's where your career started, my guy.
- 11:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 11:23Speaker 2: Well, some people say comedy is tragedy plus time. I
- 11:26Speaker 2: say comedy is physics plus baby. And I learned that
- 11:30Speaker 2: really really.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Clear fail totally.
- 11:32Speaker 6: Baby failed, physics baby equals failed absolutely.
- 11:36Speaker 2: And I want to say too, if you look back
- 11:38Speaker 2: at a lot of my work, there's easter eggs, I'm
- 11:40Speaker 2: mentioning Clive everywhere. You know, Clive is part of it.
- 11:43Speaker 2: And I wanted to leave a little love letter form
- 11:46Speaker 2: about what it's like to grow up through these eighteen
- 11:48Speaker 2: years of videos. And you can see that in a
- 11:51Speaker 2: lot of work that I've done.
- 11:52Speaker 4: That's just like what Sondheim did with his son exactly,
- 11:55Speaker 4: and he wrote all those letters to him.
- 11:57Speaker 6: Yeah, Sondheim based demon Barbara fleet Street on his relationship
- 12:03Speaker 6: with his son.
- 12:03Speaker 5: Right, so i'd heard.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:05Speaker 3: You also you developed something that mathematicians still cite, I believe,
- 12:11Speaker 3: which is the Toddler theorem. Y, you developed a formula
- 12:16Speaker 3: for how fast and hard you can make a toddler
- 12:21Speaker 3: fall before they sustain any injury whatsoever. So you found
- 12:25Speaker 3: a way to do it safely, so that no matter
- 12:27Speaker 3: what surface the toddler was falling off of, it was
- 12:30Speaker 3: gonna be safe and it was going to be mathematically
- 12:33Speaker 3: not harmful to the child.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Exactly, if a toddler takes a speed downward at a
- 12:39Speaker 2: certain velocity at a certain angle, there's certain parts of
- 12:41Speaker 2: his body that go less fast than other parts, and
- 12:45Speaker 2: if we isolate those parts and we hit those parts,
- 12:47Speaker 2: he's getting less of an impact when he hits. I
- 12:49Speaker 2: do want to make that it is called the Toddler theorem.
- 12:51Speaker 2: That is not based on my child being a toddler.
- 12:55Speaker 2: That's based on my last name, Stu Toddler. So just
- 12:58Speaker 2: to make sure that's a common misconception. My name is
- 13:00Speaker 2: to Toddler. It was about Toddler's. I didn't know that
- 13:04Speaker 2: was gonna be my life's collie. But I'm glad. I'm
- 13:08Speaker 2: glad it actually was a coincidental like that. But yeah,
- 13:11Speaker 2: I mean, look, it just goes to show x C
- 13:13Speaker 2: I a of top physics brain like it took. It
- 13:16Speaker 2: takes a lot to make a fail army.
- 13:20Speaker 4: I'll go U, what's up, guys. I'm Kirsten Kennedy. I
- 13:25Speaker 4: am a Kennedy.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Yeah, sorry, cats out of the bag. Nepotism is alive.
- 13:38Speaker 4: And well it's not even a nepotism, I'd say. It's
- 13:42Speaker 4: just like smart powerful people.
- 13:45Speaker 6: That that are in this room, I'd say, And he
- 13:48Speaker 6: was smarter and more powerful than the Kennedy's, you know,
- 13:50Speaker 6: so that's especially right now, especially all the living ones.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Anyway, So I'm Kristin Kennedy. I uh started. I originally
- 14:01Speaker 4: found you guys, the founding four fathers, all of us
- 14:04Speaker 4: found each other. I think it was when I was
- 14:06Speaker 4: doing I was on vine and I would just throw
- 14:10Speaker 4: my cat, and I threw my cat everywhere, and ever
- 14:14Speaker 4: since then, I've opened a couple of cat cafes using
- 14:17Speaker 4: some family money. Just love cats and I throw them everywhere.
- 14:21Speaker 4: And that's when I originally was like, there's something special here.
- 14:25Speaker 4: There's something special with the way we can use these
- 14:28Speaker 4: cats who have so many lives, and we could just
- 14:30Speaker 4: like catapult them places and we could do funny stuff
- 14:33Speaker 4: with them.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And that was a big thing for us.
- 14:35Speaker 6: I mean a big discussion right when we started was
- 14:38Speaker 6: how do we take it from it looking like we're
- 14:40Speaker 6: throwing a cat to people just assuming the cat fell
- 14:43Speaker 6: by itself or did something crazy.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Yeah, and you like developed an entire narrative of how
- 14:48Speaker 3: we view cats because I think before the Internet, like
- 14:51Speaker 3: if your cat did something crazy, it was kind of
- 14:53Speaker 3: just like something you saw on your own home, right,
- 14:56Speaker 3: and you had no other proof that like other cats
- 14:58Speaker 3: were like this. But the the Internet came out and
- 15:01Speaker 3: then all of a sudden, it's cat compilations everywhere. I
- 15:03Speaker 3: think you fundamentally altered the behavior of how cats behave.
- 15:08Speaker 4: Thank you well. I remember I was getting my dissertation.
- 15:11Speaker 4: I was doing my dissertation in college and what it
- 15:17Speaker 4: was on hieroglyphics, and back in the day, you know
- 15:21Speaker 4: how they show these cats and these hieroglyphics and on
- 15:24Speaker 4: these pyramids all over and they're there to be feared.
- 15:28Speaker 4: And that's when I went, there's something, there's something here
- 15:31Speaker 4: to flip that on its head, and let's stop making
- 15:33Speaker 4: this cat grumpy. Dare I say? And let's make this
- 15:37Speaker 4: cat frumpy?
- 15:39Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 15:40Speaker 6: I mean so so much of cat culture now can
- 15:43Speaker 6: be traced back to Kirsten's dissertation on hieroglyphic cats.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I mean, it's crazy.
- 15:49Speaker 4: Well, I mean, but until I started working with you
- 15:52Speaker 4: guys that we found the silly it was. I started
- 15:55Speaker 4: knowing the history and the stereotypes from just mankind of
- 16:00Speaker 4: what our relationship is with cats. And then take in
- 16:04Speaker 4: a silly stack of paper that's sitting in your kitchen
- 16:07Speaker 4: that your cat hits with its paw.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it really blew me away, you know. And every
- 16:15Speaker 2: writer's room, it's coming back to me, because every writer's
- 16:18Speaker 2: room has a writer who comes in with the facts,
- 16:20Speaker 2: comes in with the information. It's not quite funny yet, right,
- 16:24Speaker 2: you gotta work on it.
- 16:25Speaker 4: Yeah, you always say that to me, guys. I'm not
- 16:27Speaker 4: the not funny one yet, not funny yet, but.
- 16:30Speaker 2: You always start it, you know, you're the start menu
- 16:33Speaker 2: on the on the on the funny video game as well.
- 16:35Speaker 4: He gets the startman.
- 16:37Speaker 6: You know, sometimes I will say, your videos, your your pitches,
- 16:40Speaker 6: and videos get a little dark. I mean, you started
- 16:43Speaker 6: throwing cats, and we had to really ap persuade at
- 16:46Speaker 6: the beginning. We can't show somebody throwing a cat into anything.
- 16:50Speaker 2: Really, that's Yeah, it wasn't without its own controversy. You know,
- 16:54Speaker 2: we saw all those articles that you only got those
- 16:55Speaker 2: cat cafes because of nepotism, and there were some humane
- 16:58Speaker 2: reports about you that you shouldn't be given the cat
- 17:01Speaker 2: cafes right, and and it got messy and there were
- 17:04Speaker 2: Ultimately it.
- 17:05Speaker 4: Got buried because that's the least the Kennedys are doing.
- 17:08Speaker 4: And I'm grateful.
- 17:09Speaker 3: Yeah, that's such a gift that you have that the
- 17:12Speaker 3: other Kennedys are saying some wild stuff all the time.
- 17:16Speaker 4: And then I opened a cat cafe. I told my people,
- 17:19Speaker 4: I said, give it an hour, it's going to be scrubbed.
- 17:22Speaker 5: Yeah, well you did.
- 17:23Speaker 2: You opened cat cafe, and you did instead of act throwing,
- 17:26Speaker 2: it was cat throwing when you throw against the well
- 17:28Speaker 2: and they'd attached to different bulls eyes.
- 17:30Speaker 4: I just want to be clear. I just want to
- 17:32Speaker 4: be clear, we never officially opened. It was just this
- 17:34Speaker 4: soft open and we got shut down immediately.
- 17:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and that was because you didn't have a liquor license.
- 17:39Speaker 2: So that was was shut down because you didn't have
- 17:41Speaker 2: a liquor license and you were serving Well.
- 17:43Speaker 4: Those kombucha companies are liars, and we were selling absence.
- 17:51Speaker 4: We were selling absence. We got tricked. We didn't read
- 17:54Speaker 4: the back of the kombuchas and we were selling absence.
- 17:56Speaker 6: In Well, hey guys, my name is Duvet Beauregard. I
- 18:06Speaker 6: again came for a very securitous way here, you know.
- 18:11Speaker 6: I actually it was one of the top neurophysicists and
- 18:16Speaker 6: psycho therapists out there. I had, but I was very studied.
- 18:22Speaker 6: I studied the brain a lot, and my idea in
- 18:24Speaker 6: therapy and psychology. I just got so sick of it,
- 18:27Speaker 6: these people and their problems. I'm like, why don't you
- 18:30Speaker 6: just run and trip? Why don't you just run and
- 18:32Speaker 6: trip in something? Why don't you just why don't you
- 18:34Speaker 6: just run away? Why don't you just fall a little bit,
- 18:36Speaker 6: Why don't you Like all my clients really got to me.
- 18:38Speaker 6: So I just needed to switch and I found you
- 18:42Speaker 6: three and it was just you know, it was like
- 18:44Speaker 6: when lightning strikes for me, diving into the psychology of
- 18:48Speaker 6: how to mess with somebody and and also produce a
- 18:51Speaker 6: video that makes people laugh like this.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I really really liked that.
- 18:57Speaker 3: And that is what we're going for, fail army all
- 19:01Speaker 3: the time. Is we're going for that laugh that has
- 19:04Speaker 3: a little bit of delight in others suffering.
- 19:06Speaker 4: Right.
- 19:07Speaker 3: We don't want the like oh ho hoo, the Harvard
- 19:09Speaker 3: lampoon laugh. Right, we don't want that show. We want
- 19:13Speaker 3: we want bass, and we want.
- 19:16Speaker 1: We want we want the chive laugh, not try to laugh.
- 19:20Speaker 4: We want the laugh to come from below if it
- 19:22Speaker 4: comes from the head. And for some reason they thought
- 19:24Speaker 4: of the joke or they thought.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Of what we were doing too esoteric.
- 19:27Speaker 4: It's done, and we lose half of Americans.
- 19:31Speaker 2: And do they you are so good with that in
- 19:33Speaker 2: the room because you know brains and you're you're a neurologist.
- 19:37Speaker 2: We'd go to you and we'd say, okay, so we
- 19:39Speaker 2: wrote this, what laugh would this produce?
- 19:41Speaker 5: And you wouldn't tell us.
- 19:42Speaker 6: And honestly, I close my eyes, I picture it, I
- 19:45Speaker 6: picture I picture it, and sometimes the laugh would be like.
- 19:49Speaker 5: And then we throw it out for it.
- 19:51Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, just so I'm kind of laugh Patrol. I
- 19:56Speaker 6: really try to get us to hit with our demographics,
- 19:59Speaker 6: which is, uh, fraternities and uh forty year old women
- 20:05Speaker 6: looking for pain.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I think you're forgetting a person who left TV on
- 20:11Speaker 2: their computer and a dive bar.
- 20:14Speaker 1: Yeah that's exactly.
- 20:16Speaker 4: Yeah, a huge base. It's a huge base.
- 20:19Speaker 1: So let's jump into it.
- 20:20Speaker 6: I mean, we've got so much history, so much I
- 20:22Speaker 6: think it would be great for them to hear how
- 20:25Speaker 6: the actual cookie is made, how we get in there,
- 20:29Speaker 6: what sparks us, what's the creative process like? So maybe
- 20:31Speaker 6: we just take them through that. You know, we mock
- 20:33Speaker 6: a writer's room.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Yeah, so first writers room we all had to commute
- 20:39Speaker 2: to I believe where was that Saint Louis?
- 20:42Speaker 5: Right, we were computing to Saint Louis.
- 20:43Speaker 1: And we were commuting for Saint Louis from all over
- 20:45Speaker 1: the place.
- 20:46Speaker 5: Yeah, we had a yeah. Yeah.
- 20:49Speaker 2: The city, I mean it's the city of fails. We
- 20:51Speaker 2: love the energy of it and and it just raised.
- 20:54Speaker 6: So many fails going on in Saint Louis. I mean
- 20:56Speaker 6: you can't turn a corner without seeking fail.
- 20:58Speaker 3: I mean we start, we started in Cincinnati, right, because
- 21:01Speaker 3: that's like sort of the junior leagues for Fames.
- 21:04Speaker 5: Is but the but the St. Louis. Yeah, well, the
- 21:08Speaker 5: Saint Louis arch is a literal, you know.
- 21:11Speaker 2: The way I see it, the trajectory of somebody sitting
- 21:14Speaker 2: on a firework going up in the air and hitting
- 21:17Speaker 2: the ground.
- 21:18Speaker 1: That's happened.
- 21:19Speaker 5: So you got the energy of that.
- 21:20Speaker 2: You're looking out the window, and I said, we need
- 21:22Speaker 2: a building close enough to the arts that I can
- 21:24Speaker 2: see it as soon as I open my window.
- 21:26Speaker 4: Yes, I mean listen. If you want to be a
- 21:27Speaker 4: jazz musician, you go to New York. You learn from
- 21:29Speaker 4: the best jazz musicians in the world. You want to
- 21:31Speaker 4: be able to write a Dad on water skis for
- 21:34Speaker 4: the first time ever picking up his cell phone falling
- 21:36Speaker 4: into the Atlantic, you go to Saint Louis.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Exactly, exactly.
- 21:39Speaker 6: So one of our hit videos too, one of our
- 21:41Speaker 6: biggest videos ever hit Dad on water skis picking up
- 21:44Speaker 6: phone for the first time, falling into the Atlantic, and
- 21:46Speaker 6: that one divided us. I remember the day came in.
- 21:51Speaker 6: Try to pitch this, really, try to sell dad House divided.
- 21:56Speaker 5: Well, I said, too much stuff, too much stuff.
- 21:58Speaker 2: I don't know the physics of the I don't know
- 22:01Speaker 2: why the Atlantic, the physics of the Atlantic. The water
- 22:04Speaker 2: is thicker, though, maybe we should stick with a pool.
- 22:06Speaker 2: I think the water is less viscous.
- 22:08Speaker 4: People don't water skan a pool stew. That's what I said.
- 22:11Speaker 4: I'll always say it. People don't water scan and pool.
- 22:13Speaker 5: And I'm getting heated, and I think we should drop this.
- 22:15Speaker 2: But I think I do think that it was really
- 22:19Speaker 2: we should talk about the pitch process, because that's what
- 22:20Speaker 2: we do. We'd come in on the weekend, we come
- 22:22Speaker 2: in on uh, we'd come in on the weekend.
- 22:25Speaker 4: We'd come in on a Saturday and do our pitch
- 22:28Speaker 4: because yeah, this was before this was before our our
- 22:31Speaker 4: champs went off, right, so we're all doing our side jobs.
- 22:33Speaker 4: We're all working for big places.
- 22:35Speaker 3: Yeah, we were all at our side jobs. We'd come
- 22:37Speaker 3: in on the weekend and we'd go, okay, let's talk,
- 22:41Speaker 3: let's let's let's fail, let's fail. We'll say no fail ideas,
- 22:45Speaker 3: no fail ideas, and that's where we just spitball. We
- 22:48Speaker 3: get we we sort of you know, we throw out nouns,
- 22:52Speaker 3: we throw out types of people who could fall you know, Grandpa, uncle,
- 22:56Speaker 3: mommy kid or we throw out objects that they could
- 22:59Speaker 3: hurt them with, knife, bike, trike, car, stuff like that,
- 23:05Speaker 3: and we sort of mad libs are way into a premise.
- 23:09Speaker 6: And the crazy thing about this was we had to
- 23:12Speaker 6: be so careful to not accidentally make a porn title,
- 23:16Speaker 6: which was tough, you know, because we'd be saying step
- 23:19Speaker 6: brother steps on like step sister's face.
- 23:23Speaker 1: That's getting close to a porn type.
- 23:25Speaker 4: We learned thumbnails as a group and that was pretty cool.
- 23:28Speaker 2: It was amazing that day when we all learned them together.
- 23:30Speaker 2: We just sat around a big computer and we just
- 23:33Speaker 2: learned them.
- 23:34Speaker 5: That was awesome.
- 23:35Speaker 3: We said, you know what, we got to figure out
- 23:36Speaker 3: what this photoshop thing is.
- 23:38Speaker 2: We gotta do it one by one, and everyone took
- 23:40Speaker 2: five minutes on the mouse and they got to do
- 23:42Speaker 2: whatever they wanted.
- 23:44Speaker 1: It was like kid picks. It felt so fun.
- 23:47Speaker 3: It was I love when I got my five minutes
- 23:50Speaker 3: on the mouse to do whatever we wanted, breathing down
- 23:53Speaker 3: my shoulder watching me do whatever I wanted on.
- 23:56Speaker 1: The computer, trying to learn how you're doing that.
- 24:00Speaker 4: But guys, those were the times we used to have tablets.
- 24:04Speaker 5: I miss him.
- 24:05Speaker 2: I mean, I think this was the wild West before
- 24:07Speaker 2: we realized what worked and what didn't work, and we
- 24:09Speaker 2: started falling into a formula, right, And we used to
- 24:11Speaker 2: write the formulas out and we used to just fill
- 24:13Speaker 2: them and that was a tough period for me. Blanket, blanket, blankets,
- 24:17Speaker 2: hit by blank and blank, right, that was one of
- 24:19Speaker 2: our formulas. Blank tries to blank but ends up blanking.
- 24:24Speaker 2: That was another one of our formulas. And you can
- 24:26Speaker 2: fill those in over and over and over again, and
- 24:29Speaker 2: it was kind of sad.
- 24:30Speaker 5: I don't know if you guys, Blanked.
- 24:31Speaker 3: In the nuts by blank was also a reliable source.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Yeah, or just blank. I remember if we got tired,
- 24:39Speaker 4: we would just do blanket blankets hit by blank in the.
- 24:42Speaker 5: Nuts yeah, stop.
- 24:46Speaker 2: Stop, blank falls off blank into blank full stop.
- 24:53Speaker 3: This is really taking me back.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean these.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Were the old days. This is like how the sausage
- 24:58Speaker 4: we get made.
- 24:58Speaker 6: And the fun thing was, you know what we were
- 25:01Speaker 6: always trying to get and it was this magic moment
- 25:03Speaker 6: in the room when you would arrive at the epic fail,
- 25:07Speaker 6: when everything the chemistry was just going and you knew
- 25:10Speaker 6: you had an epic fail moment.
- 25:12Speaker 3: And that we've gotten into some screaming matches about what
- 25:15Speaker 3: constitutes an epic fail and it's just a regular fail, right,
- 25:19Speaker 3: because you don't want to throw that term out to
- 25:22Speaker 3: just anything, right. I'd love to know from you guys
- 25:25Speaker 3: what your favorite epic fails are or the epic fail
- 25:28Speaker 3: that you wrote that you're the most proud of.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Oh man, I mean an epic fail, you don't just
- 25:33Speaker 2: stumble upon it. It almost feels ordained by God, you
- 25:36Speaker 2: know what I mean.
- 25:37Speaker 4: And it's also the performances. It's not just writing.
- 25:39Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean.
- 25:40Speaker 6: One of my favorite epic fails that I wrote, if
- 25:43Speaker 6: I can toot my own horn, was man forgets to
- 25:46Speaker 6: put handbrake on car in ice and it rolls down
- 25:50Speaker 6: and hits seventeen other cars, and while he's running after it,
- 25:53Speaker 6: he slips and starts going, oh no, no.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Rolling down with it. I was really proud of that
- 26:00Speaker 1: epic fail.
- 26:01Speaker 2: That one, Yeah, that one was really scary until he
- 26:04Speaker 2: started screaming.
- 26:05Speaker 1: It was that And that, for me, is a little
- 26:08Speaker 1: bit of an epic fail.
- 26:08Speaker 6: You've got to feel a little scared for the main character,
- 26:11Speaker 6: and then until they break, they break that tension and
- 26:15Speaker 6: they start making a goofy noise and then you go,
- 26:17Speaker 6: this idiot, I really hope he dies, that's what I'm looking.
- 26:20Speaker 4: Well, that's how we learned our biggest rule at fail Army,
- 26:23Speaker 4: which is a rule that if someone died, it doesn't
- 26:27Speaker 4: hit our channel.
- 26:29Speaker 1: This is a.
- 26:32Speaker 3: Real put their trust in us. Ye, when something fucked
- 26:36Speaker 3: up happens on their screen. Nobody died as a result
- 26:39Speaker 3: of any.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Because it is not our job to come into your
- 26:43Speaker 4: household and make you laugh at someone's death. That is
- 26:46Speaker 4: not my job. No, my job is to make you
- 26:49Speaker 4: go oh, exactly.
- 26:52Speaker 1: From here, full stop. One of my favorite yeah, go ahead, Well,
- 26:56Speaker 1: I was going to give Kirsten props.
- 26:58Speaker 6: One of my favorite ones that I saw her do
- 27:00Speaker 6: was uh, family gets hit by big wave on vacation
- 27:03Speaker 6: while posing for uh while posing for a picture.
- 27:07Speaker 1: I mean, we had a couple, but I'm so epic. Yeah,
- 27:11Speaker 1: I mean I.
- 27:11Speaker 4: Think we call it the wave period.
- 27:15Speaker 2: Well, I don't want to shout out. You know, people
- 27:16Speaker 2: talk a lot about the diversity of Fail Army. You
- 27:18Speaker 2: did that with every race of family, which was really cool.
- 27:23Speaker 3: We and it was sort of like a hands across
- 27:26Speaker 3: America moment where it was like every single type of
- 27:29Speaker 3: person falling in the exact same way.
- 27:32Speaker 6: It was really beautiful, really by posting while posting for
- 27:37Speaker 6: no I remember.
- 27:37Speaker 4: Because we're all human and there's waves everywhere, and the
- 27:40Speaker 4: wave period. I really look at it like like Picassa
- 27:43Speaker 4: is the blue period, because I was going through a
- 27:45Speaker 4: divorce at the time, and I remember just being like,
- 27:49Speaker 4: I just feel like I keep getting hit with a
- 27:51Speaker 4: wave of just grief and sadness.
- 27:54Speaker 5: You can see that in the work. I mean, you
- 27:56Speaker 5: see it in the work.
- 27:56Speaker 4: And it might be because you, but you, but that's
- 27:59Speaker 4: also just collaboration. You guys came in and made it
- 28:02Speaker 4: really silly. You made it really silly that one time.
- 28:05Speaker 4: Who was it was it used to? Who said, give
- 28:08Speaker 4: the kid an ice cream cone when you hit him
- 28:10Speaker 4: with the wave next time?
- 28:12Speaker 5: And you that was?
- 28:14Speaker 1: That was.
- 28:16Speaker 4: And the physics of that somehow ice cream went flying
- 28:21Speaker 4: with the.
- 28:22Speaker 2: It's pressurized, we call that. We call that pressurized wave
- 28:25Speaker 2: water air and and and when it does that, it
- 28:28Speaker 2: goes right up into the sky. Not a lot of
- 28:30Speaker 2: people know it because that type of situation doesn't happen
- 28:33Speaker 2: except for in fails.
- 28:34Speaker 5: And yeah, and that's.
- 28:36Speaker 3: The magic of fails. I can tell you, my my, uh,
- 28:39Speaker 3: the epic fail that I'm the most proud of was
- 28:43Speaker 3: took place on that farm and it was like a
- 28:46Speaker 3: family visiting and they let you milk the cows, you know.
- 28:49Speaker 3: And we had sort of rigged this stool so that
- 28:54Speaker 3: it fell and flipped over like a bear trap, so
- 28:57Speaker 3: if you sat on it, your leg would go all
- 28:59Speaker 3: the way up. And then we also had this bin
- 29:02Speaker 3: of milk precariously placed on top of a barn, and
- 29:07Speaker 3: we also had a towel. The towel was very important
- 29:09Speaker 3: and so you would find yourself if you tried to
- 29:12Speaker 3: milk this cow flipped upside down, towel over your mouth,
- 29:15Speaker 3: milk pouring onto it. Essentially waterboarding with milk, which is
- 29:19Speaker 3: something that.
- 29:20Speaker 6: Brought in, you really brought in, Yeah, I mean the
- 29:23Speaker 6: amount of accidental waterboarding videos we ended up having a
- 29:27Speaker 6: are a ton.
- 29:28Speaker 3: There are a ton of because what I've really tried
- 29:32Speaker 3: to tell the CIA but they weren't interested, is that
- 29:35Speaker 3: there's so many other liquids you can use to waterboard somebody. Right,
- 29:39Speaker 3: it doesn't have to be water. We can be more
- 29:42Speaker 3: original with it. We can have a little bit more fun.
- 29:44Speaker 1: You know.
- 29:44Speaker 3: Orange juice a great one. Milk is great because sometimes
- 29:48Speaker 3: people are lactose intolerant. Sometimes you know, it's just like
- 29:51Speaker 3: unpleasant and.
- 29:53Speaker 6: So of One of my favorite ones you ever did
- 29:55Speaker 6: was coach accidentally waterboarded after game with power aid, where
- 29:59Speaker 6: the team dumped.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Oh yeah on it, but he was wearing a cloth.
- 30:02Speaker 6: And he starts going and you wrote that dialogue. I
- 30:06Speaker 6: thought that was some of the best dialogue writing I've
- 30:08Speaker 6: ever ever matter.
- 30:10Speaker 3: We had some we had some disagreements over should it
- 30:13Speaker 3: be uh or should it be oh, oh fa, oh fah,
- 30:17Speaker 3: But I think we ultimately settled on because this guy's classic,
- 30:22Speaker 3: he's educated, it was an MIT football team, and so
- 30:25Speaker 3: it ultimately didn't track for the character that he would
- 30:27Speaker 3: say oh fuh.
- 30:28Speaker 4: It goes back to character, character, character relationships, relationships, relationships,
- 30:31Speaker 4: character characters.
- 30:32Speaker 3: We're so character driven here.
- 30:33Speaker 5: We are character driven. We're a character driven room.
- 30:36Speaker 2: What I will say too, I want to talk about
- 30:39Speaker 2: my favorite epic fail.
- 30:42Speaker 5: Which a little controversial.
- 30:43Speaker 2: Everyone knows that it's a raccoon on a zip line
- 30:47Speaker 2: at a pool, but and I was kind of known
- 30:50Speaker 2: in the room for those videos in the middle of
- 30:53Speaker 2: the montages that you're kind of like, Oh, this isn't
- 30:55Speaker 2: really a fail, this is just kind of cute.
- 30:58Speaker 5: You guys do you guys know what I'm talking The.
- 31:00Speaker 6: Cute fans spiller all of a sudden, Well, it's hard
- 31:04Speaker 6: to watch seventeen videos of guy getting hit in the
- 31:06Speaker 6: sometimes animals.
- 31:08Speaker 4: Something song needs a verse, And let's be honest with
- 31:12Speaker 4: the viewer.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Not every video in the Best Fail Army Videos compilation
- 31:16Speaker 3: that's an hour and a half can be the best.
- 31:19Speaker 5: I mean, we got fail Humid.
- 31:22Speaker 2: We call him laughs short for a look at that. Yeah,
- 31:26Speaker 2: it's exactly, It's just you don't laugh. You go look
- 31:29Speaker 2: at that.
- 31:30Speaker 4: Because ninety of my work with cats is a lap.
- 31:36Speaker 4: Because especially one of my fails, I have an epic
- 31:39Speaker 4: fail that I don't think was deserved and it was
- 31:41Speaker 4: a lat and it was a cat just hit a
- 31:43Speaker 4: woman's lipstick off the table and that's a laugh.
- 31:49Speaker 1: Look.
- 31:49Speaker 3: In order to maintain a successful career in YouTube the
- 31:52Speaker 3: way that we have done, the way that everyone is done,
- 31:55Speaker 3: your video needs to be forty fifty lap or else
- 31:58Speaker 3: you will not retain them onization required to live the
- 32:02Speaker 3: lifestyle that we live, and I do living this lifestyle.
- 32:08Speaker 3: I will drive my car. I just will own my
- 32:12Speaker 3: house and I will lease out my second house in
- 32:15Speaker 3: Lake Arrowhead two Airbnb. Thank you please.
- 32:18Speaker 6: Oh, no, CIA is coming out, The CIA is coming
- 32:21Speaker 6: out a demand.
- 32:23Speaker 3: No, this was goofy over there. They considered this goofy
- 32:27Speaker 3: and three stooges.
- 32:29Speaker 4: So which one was it?
- 32:32Speaker 6: Oh well, I don't think they called her goofy.
- 32:35Speaker 5: That's an attribute. They didn't call her Disney's goofy. They
- 32:38Speaker 5: called her three.
- 32:38Speaker 3: Stooges, right they well, yeah, yeah, they called me the
- 32:44Speaker 3: three stooges. In my mind, I felt really goofy with it.
- 32:47Speaker 5: But just say it. They didn't call you Disney's goofy.
- 32:50Speaker 3: Just say it did make any funny feel bad, like.
- 32:55Speaker 5: They didn't call you Disney's goofy.
- 32:57Speaker 4: Because I'm curious.
- 33:00Speaker 3: Well, fine, if you must know, even though it was
- 33:02Speaker 3: what I really wanted to be known as. No, nobody
- 33:05Speaker 3: at the CIA called me Disney's goofy, even though I
- 33:08Speaker 3: kept asking them to. Okay, so no, your this is
- 33:11Speaker 3: three stooges and I'm sorry, Okay, I'm pissed off again.
- 33:14Speaker 3: I remember sometimes in this room when I would get
- 33:16Speaker 3: pissed off.
- 33:18Speaker 1: God, yeah, it was intense sometimes. So this room was a.
- 33:22Speaker 5: Little toxic, right, This room was a little bit.
- 33:24Speaker 3: Absolutely, It was only toxic when you tried to test
- 33:28Speaker 3: shit out on us, when you tried to test the
- 33:31Speaker 3: ideas on our physical bodies.
- 33:33Speaker 2: Well, how am I gonna go on Craigslist and ask
- 33:35Speaker 2: for these people to come in and do these these
- 33:38Speaker 2: fails when I don't know how they're gonna Look, I'm
- 33:40Speaker 2: a physicist.
- 33:41Speaker 5: We do things in the lab.
- 33:43Speaker 4: I will say, Sue, my boobs are not your paintbrush.
- 33:47Speaker 4: I'll just say it.
- 33:48Speaker 2: You know what, You guys were so limited in your
- 33:50Speaker 2: view and your views on what needed to happen. I was,
- 33:54Speaker 2: Okay Goh's number one physics guy for all of the videos.
- 33:58Speaker 4: Of course, guys, he gave him twenty minutes to mention. Okay,
- 34:01Speaker 4: go wow. I thought you'd beat it.
- 34:04Speaker 2: Oh wow, No, no, no, you know what, as they say,
- 34:07Speaker 2: here it goes again.
- 34:08Speaker 5: Because you were always jealous of my work.
- 34:10Speaker 3: With another Penny in the Jar.
- 34:14Speaker 5: Because I mentioned a music video I worked on.
- 34:18Speaker 6: You worked on one video with the treadmills, and you
- 34:22Speaker 6: can't stop talking about it. Yeah, you act like you
- 34:25Speaker 6: did best friend.
- 34:27Speaker 3: There, don't you?
- 34:28Speaker 4: And listen, Sue, Sue, you did a great job going
- 34:32Speaker 4: on Carson Daily talking about what you did with those treadmills.
- 34:36Speaker 2: I thank you guys for coming to that. That that
- 34:38Speaker 2: premiere of that episode. By the way, I know one
- 34:41Speaker 2: was really late to stay up for it.
- 34:43Speaker 4: It's not premiere, it's just a live taping.
- 34:45Speaker 2: And I know that this was the era of Last
- 34:47Speaker 2: Call with Carson Daily, where he was mostly doing voiceovers
- 34:50Speaker 2: for the voice and then he would say he take
- 34:52Speaker 2: a look at this, and he'd cut to something that
- 34:54Speaker 2: he didn't have anything to do with, and it was
- 34:56Speaker 2: some We shot it at some taco place in Santa
- 34:58Speaker 2: Monica and I just talked for a little bit. Well
- 35:00Speaker 2: the camera kind of focused on my hands.
- 35:02Speaker 5: I know that.
- 35:03Speaker 2: I know that's what this footage was. Okay, I'm grateful
- 35:07Speaker 2: you guys came to it. I'm grateful you guys came
- 35:09Speaker 2: to you for the tickets. Of course, tickets to my
- 35:13Speaker 2: premiere party.
- 35:14Speaker 4: Of course, it's a live taping behind the taco truck.
- 35:19Speaker 5: It was big. Okay, let's go back.
- 35:21Speaker 4: We're talking about LATS. We're talking about LATS.
- 35:24Speaker 2: This is twenty seven, two thousand and seven, sou coming out,
- 35:27Speaker 2: and I really hate that.
- 35:28Speaker 1: We've done a lot of work. We've done a.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Lot a lot of work. We've done a lot of
- 35:32Speaker 3: work I'm sorry. I mean it fails of this interaction. Fail.
- 35:36Speaker 3: I think I jumped on you too fast. Rose. I
- 35:40Speaker 3: think that we are getting a behind the scenes glimpse
- 35:43Speaker 3: on how things worked into thousand and seven.
- 35:46Speaker 5: Totally. I think that's good to know. Yeah.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Fail on my part. I did mention, okay, go, which
- 35:51Speaker 2: is something I haven't done in ten years. And my
- 35:55Speaker 2: my support group is.
- 35:56Speaker 4: Going to be you were ten years sober.
- 35:58Speaker 5: Yeah, I was ten years sober from talking about go.
- 36:00Speaker 2: And I'm gonna have to go back and I'm gonna
- 36:02Speaker 2: give my chip back to the people that I've.
- 36:04Speaker 5: Been working with. Keep it, keep it, okay, I just
- 36:07Speaker 5: I'll keep it.
- 36:07Speaker 2: But this will come out and they'll find out about it.
- 36:11Speaker 5: And yours and my rose, not my wind. My rose.
- 36:19Speaker 4: Roses have prickly fails.
- 36:20Speaker 5: Totally.
- 36:23Speaker 1: I hate it.
- 36:24Speaker 3: I fall into a rose bush full of prickly fails.
- 36:29Speaker 6: Okay, imagine imagine though, somebody falling into a rose bush
- 36:31Speaker 6: full of prickly fails. Like imagine maybe like a step
- 36:34Speaker 6: mom falling into a rose bush after yelling at her
- 36:36Speaker 6: step son.
- 36:38Speaker 2: My rose is that I didn't throw anything. And and
- 36:44Speaker 2: I can hear you, guys, for the first time in
- 36:46Speaker 2: probably twelve years. I can hear you guys that I
- 36:48Speaker 2: can see myself, and I'm really grateful you guys are
- 36:51Speaker 2: with me, and I wish we were together because I'd
- 36:53Speaker 2: be holding your hands.
- 36:55Speaker 3: Oh, I know, really nice to hear, really nice to hear.
- 36:59Speaker 3: I haven't felt us come together in this way since
- 37:03Speaker 3: the America's Funniest Home Videos lawsuit that happened in.
- 37:10Speaker 6: They suit us so hard, they said they they said
- 37:13Speaker 6: they owned the right to show video crazy crazy.
- 37:19Speaker 4: You can't listen. We legally, you can't own an accident,
- 37:24Speaker 4: you can't own a typo, you can't own a mistake.
- 37:30Speaker 3: His public domain. And if anyone tries to claim otherwise,
- 37:33Speaker 3: you know, I think the Supreme Court ruled in our favor.
- 37:36Speaker 3: Ultimately we can keep doing what we're doing exactly.
- 37:39Speaker 1: You knew they were sacked, the justices, thank god.
- 37:43Speaker 4: Oh yes, and let me just say we knew the
- 37:45Speaker 4: defense was just like hang on by a thread when
- 37:47Speaker 4: they said we needed people's life rights to show them
- 37:50Speaker 4: getting hit by the nuts. I'm not gonna option out.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Dad's all over America's life rights for when they taught
- 37:57Speaker 4: their kids te ball.
- 37:58Speaker 3: And so it's this, It was this hard choice of
- 38:01Speaker 3: do we reveal that all the videos are fake and
- 38:03Speaker 3: written by us? Or do we go after life rights
- 38:08Speaker 3: for people who don't exist exactly?
- 38:10Speaker 5: And we want. I can't believe it. I can't believe
- 38:13Speaker 5: we want and I can't believe.
- 38:14Speaker 2: We still get to do what we do, albeit kind
- 38:16Speaker 2: of separately in different divisions, but we still get to
- 38:18Speaker 2: do what we do.
- 38:19Speaker 4: Yes, So Lindsay has failed Navy. Should we go around
- 38:22Speaker 4: and say, like how because we started, like I mean,
- 38:24Speaker 4: it was just us for but then it grew into
- 38:27Speaker 4: an army and we have so many channels and so
- 38:30Speaker 4: many like just incredible divisions.
- 38:34Speaker 2: Yeah, we can go around. We can definitely go around.
- 38:37Speaker 2: I'm I'm on doctor Fail, which is, you know, more
- 38:42Speaker 2: of a highbrow, intellectual PhD level type of fail.
- 38:47Speaker 3: So we call it the New Yorker of Fail Army.
- 38:49Speaker 5: It's the New Yorker of Fail Army. It's it's people
- 38:53Speaker 5: you know, using the wrong slides in their presentations. It's
- 38:57Speaker 5: it's people who the margins aren't wide enough on their
- 39:00Speaker 5: dissertations so the page count is offing like that. It's yeah,
- 39:04Speaker 5: it gets that type of laugh, right, is right? Uh,
- 39:09Speaker 5: it's fun.
- 39:10Speaker 2: It's not the old days, and definitely Jones in for
- 39:13Speaker 2: a little bit of the excitement that we used to have.
- 39:15Speaker 2: But it's definitely fun. It's hard to it's hard to
- 39:19Speaker 2: manipulate physics the way we used to in this because
- 39:22Speaker 2: a lot of intellectual.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Our cameras are just better now, so you pick up
- 39:27Speaker 3: on more steps. It's and sometimes you know, the falls
- 39:34Speaker 3: feel too real because you can see the injuries and
- 39:36Speaker 3: higher definition.
- 39:39Speaker 4: Yeah, and that's what I love when we do. Lindsay,
- 39:41Speaker 4: when you're on site, you always spit on the lens
- 39:44Speaker 4: and you go, let's do it like we used to
- 39:46Speaker 4: do it.
- 39:46Speaker 6: It's like a weird aggressive thing. You really spit on it.
- 39:50Speaker 3: It is for two reasons. It's to a established dominance
- 39:54Speaker 3: and b to make it look like a motor roller razor,
- 39:58Speaker 3: is not it?
- 39:59Speaker 4: Oh and it's so much funny that way.
- 40:01Speaker 3: Well, I actually flav Stu has shouts and burmers.
- 40:06Speaker 6: And I've got I'm in fail colon scary International videos.
- 40:13Speaker 6: That's kind of like you know, you see those videos
- 40:16Speaker 6: sometimes we're like, WHOA, that's less of a fail and
- 40:18Speaker 6: more of a terrifying situation like tiger attacking elephant with
- 40:23Speaker 6: man on it or leopard has escaped the zoo and
- 40:26Speaker 6: is now on stop of a children's school. That's kind
- 40:30Speaker 6: of my division. I'm I'm loving it. It's really interesting.
- 40:34Speaker 3: You're doing some really exciting stuff with hurricanes.
- 40:36Speaker 6: Oh yeah, very All the videos of house flying off,
- 40:42Speaker 6: that's all me.
- 40:43Speaker 1: That's all scary international.
- 40:44Speaker 6: It falls under the hurricanes. I'm making the hurricanes. I'm
- 40:47Speaker 6: defining the house.
- 40:48Speaker 1: It's all. This is the secret. It's all miniatures. That's
- 40:51Speaker 1: the secret of most global warming things that we're seeing
- 40:55Speaker 1: miniatures made by me.
- 40:56Speaker 2: Oh yeah, it's crazy because I know they're still sending
- 40:58Speaker 2: you to those locations.
- 40:59Speaker 1: Yeah you didn't.
- 41:02Speaker 4: I see you build like a train set near the train.
- 41:06Speaker 1: Yeah, so I'll go to a train.
- 41:08Speaker 6: I'll build a train set and just just to get
- 41:10Speaker 6: the vibe and the feeling of it, just to get
- 41:12Speaker 6: it right. It's first one to show dominance over the
- 41:15Speaker 6: set that I'm in charge, you know, that's the second thing.
- 41:17Speaker 6: And two sometimes you can use the feeling of the
- 41:21Speaker 6: train behind you to play into a train derailing.
- 41:25Speaker 1: You know. That's so I'll be all over the world.
- 41:28Speaker 6: Now I'll go to Switzerland for a failed train is
- 41:31Speaker 6: shaking too much and might fall off track.
- 41:33Speaker 1: Yeah, so yeah, it's a great division though.
- 41:36Speaker 6: I found really sinking my teeth into the psychology of it.
- 41:39Speaker 6: It's really hitting the point of where do people go, Wow,
- 41:43Speaker 6: that was actually kind of scary, and they look at
- 41:45Speaker 6: their friends.
- 41:46Speaker 1: It's a lot. It is a lat and they look
- 41:48Speaker 1: at their friend.
- 41:49Speaker 6: But what the reaction I'm looking for was like, whoa,
- 41:51Speaker 6: that was actually kind of scary, But then they immediately
- 41:54Speaker 6: forget it. It doesn't stick with them later at night.
- 41:57Speaker 6: I want them to maybe have a scary dream about it,
- 42:00Speaker 6: but I don't want it to stick with them for
- 42:01Speaker 6: the next fail.
- 42:02Speaker 5: You know.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Yeah, it's really exciting stuff. Yeah yeah.
- 42:06Speaker 4: And finally me, I we've kind of passed this baton
- 42:10Speaker 4: around for some reason. It's stuck on me again. I'm
- 42:14Speaker 4: still running Fail Army Thanksgiving and Fail Army Christmas, and
- 42:19Speaker 4: it's just our holiday video compilations and I love it, sure,
- 42:26Speaker 4: but I'm ready to move on. I'm looking. I'm pitching
- 42:30Speaker 4: you kill it.
- 42:31Speaker 1: You kill it every year. Every year it feels the
- 42:34Speaker 1: same and yet different, you.
- 42:36Speaker 4: Know, thank you. It's just like I do feel a
- 42:38Speaker 4: little gridlocked for all the other months out of the year,
- 42:42Speaker 4: but I am working on some small new pitches that
- 42:45Speaker 4: I've been pitching the guys. Uh, some just fail army
- 42:48Speaker 4: snow where we just do snow stuff because I've been
- 42:52Speaker 4: seeing a lot of snow stuff and it's just like
- 42:55Speaker 4: we got we gotta get ahead of it.
- 42:57Speaker 5: Is all over the place.
- 42:58Speaker 4: I mean, we just don't have a clear voice.
- 43:00Speaker 5: We don't have a designated place for.
- 43:03Speaker 1: You don't have a take.
- 43:04Speaker 3: It's like, is snow hard? Is it soft?
- 43:07Speaker 5: Is it mushy?
- 43:08Speaker 3: Does it hurt your balls? Does it help your balls?
- 43:11Speaker 3: The kind of things we need to decide as a channel.
- 43:13Speaker 4: If we're being transparent, yeah, and if we're doing snow,
- 43:15Speaker 4: are we doing our kids involved?
- 43:18Speaker 5: Right? Yeah?
- 43:18Speaker 2: Because that I mean the thing is with with with
- 43:21Speaker 2: snow also physics wise, right, Sometimes baby fall in big
- 43:24Speaker 2: snow disappear, but sometimes adults fall on hard snow hurt back.
- 43:28Speaker 5: So those are the differences. It's crazy.
- 43:32Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah. So I'm definitely definitely in the weeds
- 43:37Speaker 4: with that, and we're working on writing different different things,
- 43:41Speaker 4: but it is it is really special to all come
- 43:44Speaker 4: back together and kind of think tank together like we
- 43:47Speaker 4: used to in early two thousands. It feels it feels.
- 43:50Speaker 6: Well, I actually I don't know if you guys, did
- 43:52Speaker 6: I know we sent that memo. Maybe just bring some
- 43:54Speaker 6: pitches and we can work it out.
- 43:55Speaker 1: I brought a pitch. Maybe we could life pitch.
- 43:58Speaker 6: On it if you Yeah, I'd love this.
- 44:02Speaker 1: This one is just I kind of like pulling from life.
- 44:05Speaker 2: Here.
- 44:06Speaker 6: It's woman opens two liter and it sprays in her
- 44:10Speaker 6: face and bottle cap hits her in face.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Okay, okay, it goes like this. She goes she is
- 44:15Speaker 1: she old as shit?
- 44:17Speaker 6: Ooh?
- 44:17Speaker 1: Is that a question or a pitch?
- 44:20Speaker 4: I can't tell.
- 44:21Speaker 3: Well, that's interesting. That's interesting, Kristen, because somebody needs to
- 44:27Speaker 3: ask these tough questions. And I think I see her
- 44:31Speaker 3: personally as being kind of old as shit, but not
- 44:35Speaker 3: like old as shit in the way that that is
- 44:38Speaker 3: like lifespan wise, I mean old as shit as a
- 44:42Speaker 3: seven year old boy would imagine is old as shit.
- 44:45Speaker 4: Yeah, that's exactly what I think.
- 44:46Speaker 3: It the sweet spot for women about forty one.
- 44:49Speaker 2: I think forty one is perfect. My question too, is
- 44:51Speaker 2: where are we right? And is the camera on her
- 44:54Speaker 2: when we start or does the camera kind of jostle
- 44:56Speaker 2: its way towards her?
- 44:57Speaker 5: That's great?
- 44:58Speaker 3: Is she filming a TikTok and this happens because this
- 45:01Speaker 3: is a whole new this is something that's kind of
- 45:03Speaker 3: new within the past like five years or so, we've
- 45:05Speaker 3: been able to play with.
- 45:06Speaker 6: And that's what I was thinking, that's what I was leaning.
- 45:08Speaker 6: Our intern chassis is so helpful.
- 45:10Speaker 2: Well, she's the head of the Fail Army TikTok now,
- 45:13Speaker 2: which has quickly become our largest department, and she kind
- 45:17Speaker 2: of you know, it's.
- 45:19Speaker 1: We should bump her up from intern. We should really
- 45:22Speaker 1: it is to me that.
- 45:23Speaker 4: We all are on salary for running things like fail
- 45:26Speaker 4: Army snow. Meanwhile our main channel, which has become TikTok
- 45:33Speaker 4: A summary.
- 45:34Speaker 3: I mean, she's getting great exposure.
- 45:36Speaker 2: She's getting exposure, and someone told me that she has
- 45:38Speaker 2: access to the monetization and no one else does. So
- 45:41Speaker 2: I don't know but feel for her.
- 45:42Speaker 1: How much money could they be making on that?
- 45:44Speaker 5: Probably not much, right, So I was.
- 45:47Speaker 6: Thinking, Yeah, it was a little bit of like she's
- 45:49Speaker 6: filming something and she's going, hey, I like this, I
- 45:52Speaker 6: like this.
- 45:52Speaker 1: It's like, hey, what's up, TikTok.
- 45:54Speaker 6: I just wanted to drink a sip of my soda
- 45:56Speaker 6: and it explodes in her face and she goes, what
- 45:58Speaker 6: if she god, what was that?
- 46:01Speaker 1: Maybe?
- 46:01Speaker 4: Yeah, what if I know that we're talking about maybe
- 46:04Speaker 4: making her oldest ship. What if she's tired as ship.
- 46:07Speaker 6: Could be yeah, okay, I like and maybe and maybe
- 46:10Speaker 6: like what if like what if it's next to her
- 46:11Speaker 6: laptop and it breaks her laptop too?
- 46:13Speaker 1: I think it spills all over your laptop.
- 46:15Speaker 2: And I'm imagining too, uh, big forehead with tight hair
- 46:19Speaker 2: in a really tight, padded down ponytail kind of.
- 46:23Speaker 6: I love that big forehead tight. But she looks like
- 46:26Speaker 6: she teaches cheerleading practice, so that'd be.
- 46:28Speaker 5: Really that's now.
- 46:29Speaker 3: I was wondering, just building off of that, if the
- 46:33Speaker 3: soda could be acid, if it could be.
- 46:36Speaker 6: Like, oh, okay, switch it, switch it. She's actually like
- 46:39Speaker 6: in a lab. She's in a lab, and I'm gonna
- 46:42Speaker 6: go against that. I think we're gonna stick with soda.
- 46:44Speaker 6: I think soda is a better way.
- 46:45Speaker 2: I think acid is it's skewing a little bit more
- 46:47Speaker 2: towards closer to death.
- 46:49Speaker 5: And that would be and.
- 46:50Speaker 4: For the listeners, right, that's interesting, this is this is
- 46:53Speaker 4: what usually happens. Right, We've been playing with this idea,
- 46:56Speaker 4: we've been playing with this playto and now we're at
- 46:58Speaker 4: a crossroads. Right, it looks like the room is divided.
- 47:01Speaker 4: Half want to make it acid, half want to make
- 47:03Speaker 4: it soda. Right, and this is always where the going
- 47:06Speaker 4: gets tough.
- 47:07Speaker 6: Okay, what do we meet in the middle of not
- 47:09Speaker 6: cut soda? It is one of those volcano projects. She's
- 47:13Speaker 6: forty one, helping her kid, and it's the kid pours
- 47:16Speaker 6: it in without her knowing, it explodes in her face.
- 47:18Speaker 5: It's amazing. That's amazing.
- 47:21Speaker 1: It's good.
- 47:22Speaker 2: And I'm pressing my button and I'm turning around because
- 47:24Speaker 2: I would like that on my team.
- 47:25Speaker 4: There it is the boy.
- 47:27Speaker 1: You press the button.
- 47:28Speaker 3: You press the button, you know, because a lot of
- 47:31Speaker 3: things that I pitch are sort of like could lead
- 47:35Speaker 3: to someone dying. And so I am really grateful for
- 47:37Speaker 3: this room because you need a bunch of writers with
- 47:39Speaker 3: different perspectives.
- 47:40Speaker 6: Yeah, your stuff is really tortuous and really dark. It's
- 47:43Speaker 6: almost like it's almost like I'm watching a fetish website.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Whenever you tell that it's crazy.
- 47:48Speaker 5: And I do want to mention. I did mention the
- 47:50Speaker 5: button in the voice thing.
- 47:51Speaker 2: We were the actual creators of those chairs, and they
- 47:54Speaker 2: were stolen because Selo was a writer for Fail Army
- 47:57Speaker 2: before he was meeting.
- 47:58Speaker 1: Just a second. His pitches looks dressed so sweet, but.
- 48:03Speaker 3: They were also homophobic.
- 48:05Speaker 1: But a lot of pitches were what if a man
- 48:10Speaker 1: kisses a man.
- 48:15Speaker 3: Fail, that's just same love that love.
- 48:19Speaker 4: I would say those chairs were never meant for public consumption.
- 48:23Speaker 4: Those chairs weren't meant to be a like a spectacle.
- 48:27Speaker 4: It was an easy way that we could show that
- 48:29Speaker 4: we liked an idea.
- 48:32Speaker 2: Is physics at work. I mean, it was just beautiful
- 48:35Speaker 2: and it's it's a shame they've been commodified.
- 48:37Speaker 1: It is it is a shame. Just to finish off
- 48:39Speaker 1: this video, I mean, does anybody have a pitch for
- 48:40Speaker 1: the last line?
- 48:41Speaker 5: First line?
- 48:41Speaker 1: Last line?
- 48:42Speaker 2: Well, I would say we could lean into, you know, improvising,
- 48:47Speaker 2: because that reminds me, you know, I feel like we're
- 48:49Speaker 2: ready to start talking about casting for this because casting
- 48:53Speaker 2: is such a huge part of it, and I think
- 48:54Speaker 2: we'd love to let people in. I mean, there are
- 48:56Speaker 2: some of our favorites right first off. I think Leslie
- 48:59Speaker 2: is some that came to my mind as somebody who
- 49:01Speaker 2: could do this one really well.
- 49:02Speaker 1: Leslie.
- 49:03Speaker 5: Leslie.
- 49:04Speaker 6: Yeah, Leslie, She's.
- 49:07Speaker 4: One of the ones that you she only has cell
- 49:10Speaker 4: she's in Oklahoma. She only has cell service between two
- 49:12Speaker 4: and three pm.
- 49:13Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, yeah yeah yah.
- 49:16Speaker 3: It's so hard to get a hold of her. But
- 49:17Speaker 3: she's been great. She's been with us for so long.
- 49:19Speaker 3: Because it's funny because we started working with her in seven.
- 49:22Speaker 3: We found her on Craigslist and by at that point
- 49:26Speaker 3: she was in the hot girl, drunk, falling off of
- 49:31Speaker 3: stuff type cast and she was.
- 49:33Speaker 4: Slowly aged herself.
- 49:35Speaker 3: To the mom having something bad happened to her so
- 49:39Speaker 3: sweet part. And the day we decided that she had
- 49:42Speaker 3: to change was a tough day.
- 49:44Speaker 1: She was not ready to have that kind she was
- 49:47Speaker 1: twenty five.
- 49:47Speaker 5: I was it was time.
- 49:50Speaker 1: She was twenty five.
- 49:51Speaker 4: Years old, guys, she was ready. She was ready to
- 49:54Speaker 4: be tired of ship. But I'll say that Leslie has
- 49:58Speaker 4: a fact, a factor with her that we look for
- 50:00Speaker 4: in all our fill Army actors, which is, no matter
- 50:02Speaker 4: how many times you see your face, you'll never remember
- 50:04Speaker 4: her face. Yes, so we can use her sober and over.
- 50:09Speaker 1: Leslie's probably sixty percent of our videos.
- 50:11Speaker 5: And you guys think you have no idea.
- 50:14Speaker 3: And with the invention of AI, which is something we love.
- 50:19Speaker 1: We love, we love I love are ay, I bring
- 50:24Speaker 1: it on.
- 50:25Speaker 2: This is the.
- 50:27Speaker 3: We no longer have to pay actors more than like
- 50:31Speaker 3: we can only have three actors on staff, and then
- 50:33Speaker 3: we duplicate them and that way we can inflict more
- 50:36Speaker 3: pain on them. So we are so excited.
- 50:38Speaker 1: M hm, well, thanks guys, thanks for that pitch. Anybody
- 50:42Speaker 1: else got a light pitch?
- 50:43Speaker 2: I don't mean to put I mean Leslie's great improviser,
- 50:45Speaker 2: but if anyone does have a good last line, I'm
- 50:47Speaker 2: down to hear it.
- 50:48Speaker 5: Always.
- 50:49Speaker 4: I always pitch if if a human or an animal
- 50:53Speaker 4: said meow, I think that's always and that would be awesome.
- 50:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know if that works for this video
- 50:59Speaker 3: game pitch saying a child's name. I would always say
- 51:02Speaker 3: good saying like.
- 51:03Speaker 4: Anthony, what if you went? I know you're wondering how
- 51:08Speaker 4: did I get here?
- 51:09Speaker 5: That's interesting, that's okay, I would say, what about.
- 51:14Speaker 3: As for our narrative channel, that's for our narrative channel.
- 51:17Speaker 3: We're We're which cats out of the bag? Did TV
- 51:20Speaker 3: show a strike fail? Army scripted TV show is coming out?
- 51:28Speaker 3: We are writing it. We are we are well. The
- 51:32Speaker 3: w g A actually said that this was fine because
- 51:34Speaker 3: they don't really consider this much of anything.
- 51:37Speaker 1: Yeah, they were.
- 51:38Speaker 6: They were trying to avoid this thing. They said, go ahead,
- 51:40Speaker 6: we don't care, just don't attach.
- 51:42Speaker 2: Us to it.
- 51:43Speaker 3: This is where you're fine.
- 51:45Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think that was so lovely of them.
- 51:48Speaker 3: I think that's fail army. The scripted show follows a
- 51:54Speaker 3: faceless man named Mark stumbling through the world, getting his balls,
- 51:59Speaker 3: not around and just face planting into things. But the
- 52:04Speaker 3: twist is that he has kids and he wants to
- 52:07Speaker 3: be an actor, So that's.
- 52:08Speaker 1: The twist his journey.
- 52:10Speaker 6: The twist is that he has kids, and the thing
- 52:13Speaker 6: about him is he has giant balls. This guy has
- 52:16Speaker 6: giant balls, constantly get.
- 52:18Speaker 3: Hit kids because it's like, there's.
- 52:22Speaker 1: This guy's are too big.
- 52:29Speaker 2: And you guys are forgetting the reveal at the end
- 52:32Speaker 2: of the first episode he also has a large Italian family.
- 52:37Speaker 4: Oh god, that's a.
- 52:41Speaker 6: Family, women who are and all this ship like, we
- 52:46Speaker 6: didn't want to reveal it, but he last shot, you're
- 52:49Speaker 6: kind of watching this guy gets thrown around and you're,
- 52:51Speaker 6: you know, the first pilot drop is like, oh my gosh,
- 52:53Speaker 6: he has kids.
- 52:54Speaker 1: How could he have kids? His balls are too big?
- 52:55Speaker 6: Last shot, he's walking in he opens the door and
- 52:58Speaker 6: he goes, yeah, all my family, he's here, and it's
- 53:01Speaker 6: a large Italian family city.
- 53:03Speaker 4: We have the DP who did that that commercial where
- 53:07Speaker 4: you zoom out and you see everyone who's working their wave.
- 53:10Speaker 2: We got.
- 53:13Speaker 1: We got you know, you know that commercial shot, you
- 53:15Speaker 1: know that one commercial?
- 53:16Speaker 6: Will we zoom ounta and see everybody wave that famous
- 53:19Speaker 6: famous commercial or it's like.
- 53:21Speaker 4: They're all working on a mattress plays or a bank.
- 53:23Speaker 4: It's that one DP.
- 53:24Speaker 1: We got.
- 53:24Speaker 5: We got him, Yeah, we.
- 53:26Speaker 3: Got him, we got him.
- 53:27Speaker 1: We got the guy who.
- 53:28Speaker 2: Does who does employee shots static straight on employee shots,
- 53:33Speaker 2: we go.
- 53:34Speaker 3: We got we got the guy who does the employee
- 53:38Speaker 3: badges at CBS Television City. We got him photos for
- 53:42Speaker 3: the badges, and we got him.
- 53:43Speaker 5: You've seen him on lanyards. Now you're seeing him on
- 53:45Speaker 5: your TV and living room. Yeah.
- 53:48Speaker 1: Absolutely, Yeah, Well guys, this has been great. Do we
- 53:53Speaker 1: have any final advice? Maybe young young fail young fail writers,
- 53:59Speaker 1: how to get in?
- 53:59Speaker 3: How to.
- 54:02Speaker 2: Be the best in your fields is what I would say,
- 54:05Speaker 2: be the absolute best that you can be, and because
- 54:10Speaker 2: what goes up must come down, just like if you're
- 54:12Speaker 2: tracking the Saint Louis arch Uh, be the best you
- 54:16Speaker 2: can be and uh, if you shoot for the moon,
- 54:19Speaker 2: you fail among the stars.
- 54:20Speaker 5: That's what I would say.
- 54:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I'd say listen, listen, listen to the people around you.
- 54:28Speaker 5: And what if they were listening now, what would you
- 54:30Speaker 5: tell them?
- 54:31Speaker 4: I say, listen harder. If you can listen for the
- 54:35Speaker 4: smallest sound in the room, you are gonna hear a fail.
- 54:39Speaker 3: That's funny because Kirsten is doing subliminal messaging right now.
- 54:42Speaker 3: If you play your message in reverse, she's gonna say
- 54:44Speaker 3: a swear.
- 54:47Speaker 1: She's gonna say us swear.
- 54:51Speaker 4: Listen, listen.
- 54:53Speaker 3: My advice is that the word out is funny, the
- 54:57Speaker 3: word out sad.
- 55:02Speaker 5: And I'm still witting pre to tell me about OOF.
- 55:05Speaker 3: Oof is a gray area, you know. I think you
- 55:07Speaker 3: gotta learn the rules before you can break them. OOF
- 55:10Speaker 3: is you know, once you've mastered writing for like a while,
- 55:13Speaker 3: you can start implementing OOF. But a lot of writers
- 55:15Speaker 3: are too green. They pull an OOF too early, and
- 55:18Speaker 3: it just feels in organic. It feels on an organic
- 55:20Speaker 3: to the scene.
- 55:20Speaker 1: Guys.
- 55:21Speaker 3: That's my opinion on OOF. A lot of people have
- 55:23Speaker 3: opinions on it.
- 55:23Speaker 4: That's fine, No, for sure, I just want to let
- 55:25Speaker 4: anyone know who's listening. If you're if you're sending us
- 55:26Speaker 4: samples and they have oofs, I would just like get
- 55:29Speaker 4: a friend to look at it and really see if
- 55:31Speaker 4: that oof me.
- 55:32Speaker 6: We're kind of sick of samples with oofs, like and
- 55:35Speaker 6: that was kind of my my advice was the stuff
- 55:39Speaker 6: that we're getting we've seen before. If you're gonna write fails,
- 55:42Speaker 6: you gotta find your own unique voice on a fail.
- 55:46Speaker 6: You can't do what we want you to do or
- 55:48Speaker 6: what you think people want. You have to do what's
- 55:50Speaker 6: unique and original to you. If you have a faily friend,
- 55:54Speaker 6: don't run away from them. Get out your notebook.
- 55:57Speaker 3: Yeah, and I would say packet submissions are open until
- 56:02Speaker 3: September ninth.
- 56:03Speaker 6: So September ninth, seven, twenty twenty seven hits and then
- 56:08Speaker 6: we have to stop.
- 56:09Speaker 4: And then we're calling it.
- 56:10Speaker 3: Then we're calling it, and then we have to stop looking.
- 56:13Speaker 3: But it's once again, it is four pages of nouns
- 56:18Speaker 3: that someone could be hit in the face with. So
- 56:20Speaker 3: it's four pages of noun pitches, and then it's four
- 56:23Speaker 3: pages of substitute words for ouch, and then it's uh
- 56:29Speaker 3: three three to five page topical sketch. Oh, and I
- 56:32Speaker 3: want to say this I get political. Make sure it
- 56:35Speaker 3: makes political.
- 56:36Speaker 6: It's gotta be political, it's got to be fin We
- 56:38Speaker 6: also love an impression. If you can include an impression,
- 56:40Speaker 6: just to touch it as a video.
- 56:42Speaker 1: And I just let you know.
- 56:43Speaker 5: Sorry, I just want to say, just and just a
- 56:45Speaker 5: list of locations you have access to.
- 56:49Speaker 4: That's always really important. And then I'll say, guys, I've
- 56:52Speaker 4: seen there's nothing you can write that I haven't seen
- 56:56Speaker 4: a cat do. There's nothing, right, so like, don't try
- 57:00Speaker 4: to don't try to show me something in the cat
- 57:03Speaker 4: world that I haven't seen before, because I've seen it.
- 57:06Speaker 3: Yeah, we already have a cat guy, so I don't
- 57:08Speaker 3: have a cat guy.
- 57:09Speaker 4: There's no there's no human activity I can see a
- 57:14Speaker 4: cat do. That will make me surprised. So just start
- 57:17Speaker 4: from truth and listen. Listen, great, uh bye.
- 57:27Speaker 2: This has been artists on artist on artist, an artist
- 57:29Speaker 2: answering the question. Now that's what they call it, Joe business,
- 57:32Speaker 2: good night.
- 57:34Speaker 3: We've never had it on goodbye.
- 57:36Speaker 1: I don't know why I said that.
