Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Yeah, me too. This is the podcast that comes after
- 0:10Speaker 2: the podcast.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Welcome to Disgraceland, the after party. Welcome to the Disgraceland
- 0:29Speaker 1: bonus episode, a little thing we like to call the
- 0:32Speaker 1: after party. This is the show after the show, the
- 0:34Speaker 1: party after the party, the bridge to get you from
- 0:36Speaker 1: one full episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard
- 0:39Speaker 1: to dig into the dirt. On this bonus episode, we
- 0:42Speaker 1: are talking about this week's full episode subject on Frank Sinatra.
- 0:46Speaker 2: A part two episode on Frank Sinatra.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Actually, we're rewinding back to Studio fifty four previewing our
- 0:52Speaker 1: upcoming episode on the Replacements, and get into your voicemails, text, dms,
- 0:56Speaker 1: thoughts on the books, we're reading, the music, we're listening
- 0:58Speaker 1: to the film and television we're watching, and and we
- 1:01Speaker 1: dig into the Diddy verdict follow and there's always a
- 1:05Speaker 1: whole lot of rosie. All right, disc goes, let's get
- 1:09Speaker 1: into it. It's not often that a jury in a
- 1:18Speaker 1: federal trial for racketeering answers our Disgraceland question of the
- 1:22Speaker 1: week for us, But.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Guys, That's what happened.
- 1:24Speaker 1: By now you know that Sean Ditty Combs was deemed
- 1:27Speaker 1: not guilty of racketeering conspiracy, and not guilty of sex
- 1:32Speaker 1: trafficking by force, fraud or coercion. He was found guilty
- 1:36Speaker 1: of two lesser counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. So,
- 1:40Speaker 1: in light of our recent Part two episode on Frank Sinatra,
- 1:44Speaker 1: we asked, was Frank Sinatra the most gangster musician of
- 1:48Speaker 1: all time?
- 1:49Speaker 2: And according to the jury in the Shawn.
- 1:50Speaker 1: Combs trial, Seawn Combs at least is not the most
- 1:55Speaker 1: gangster musician of all time, at least if we're going
- 1:57Speaker 1: by the book. Now, I don't know, just because as
- 2:00Speaker 1: he got off on the more serious charges, I cannot
- 2:04Speaker 1: unsee Sean ditty Comb's viciously beating on Cassie Ventura and yeah,
- 2:12Speaker 1: impossible to accept. But does that make him guilty of racketeering? No,
- 2:17Speaker 1: it does not. And as our recent Sinatra episode points out,
- 2:21Speaker 1: Frank got violent with the opposite sex too, at least
- 2:23Speaker 1: if we're to believe Peter Lawford's story about Frank putting
- 2:26Speaker 1: that woman through the plate glass window. Now, like most
- 2:30Speaker 1: of you guys, I read a ton of books. I
- 2:33Speaker 1: read more than I spend I spend more time reading,
- 2:36Speaker 1: I should say more than I spend my time on TikTok.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And I gotta say I'm pretty annoyed by the Sean
- 2:42Speaker 1: Didty Coombs corner of TikTok, the Jaguar Rights the wild
- 2:46Speaker 1: claims about a list celebrities involved in Ditty's worst crimes.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Of course, none of that came out in trial, and I'll.
- 2:55Speaker 1: Admit there was a moment there where I thought it might,
- 2:59Speaker 1: but I was never convinced, which is why in the
- 3:01Speaker 1: recent Diddy episode that we released, I based it entirely
- 3:04Speaker 1: on the indictments and the publicly available legal documents at
- 3:08Speaker 1: the time. Almost everything in that episode that came out
- 3:12Speaker 1: in the trial as I expected it would. Everything in
- 3:15Speaker 1: Our Disgrace and Part two Sean Combs episode. Most of
- 3:18Speaker 1: that was touched upon in the recent Shawn Combs trial.
- 3:21Speaker 1: And of course the trial gave us more details, stuff
- 3:23Speaker 1: that I didn't have proved, stuff that none of us
- 3:25Speaker 1: had beforehand.
- 3:26Speaker 2: But the trial did not give.
- 3:27Speaker 1: Us anything that the TikTok gossip merchants were pedaling like gospel. Okay,
- 3:35Speaker 1: the New Sinatra episode it's based on real information information
- 3:39Speaker 1: that I found in a recent book called Frank Sinatra
- 3:42Speaker 1: and the Mafia Murders. It was released just two years ago,
- 3:44Speaker 1: and it's based on sourcing from recently released Los Angeles
- 3:48Speaker 1: police intelligence files and a whole cachet of new FBI
- 3:51Speaker 1: documents that the authors got their hands on. Now, none
- 3:55Speaker 1: of it was taken from xis guys with YouTube channels
- 3:59Speaker 1: or TikTok account ounce And as you've likely heard by now,
- 4:02Speaker 1: Sinatra's involvement with the mafia is pretty damn disgraceful and
- 4:07Speaker 1: more gangster than what Sean Combs was officially found guilty of,
- 4:11Speaker 1: at least as far as the official record is concerned. Now,
- 4:16Speaker 1: speaking of records, switching gears here a little bit, Nirvana's
- 4:19Speaker 1: Unplugged it's getting its thirtieth anniversary remaster in re release,
- 4:24Speaker 1: and that reminded me that I bought this album on
- 4:28Speaker 1: vinyl when it came out. I still have it, and
- 4:31Speaker 1: I still listen to it, and I kind of want
- 4:33Speaker 1: to get this remaster and abe the quality to see
- 4:36Speaker 1: if there's actually any difference between the original that I
- 4:38Speaker 1: have and the new remaster. How's your record collection doing? Okay,
- 4:43Speaker 1: let me know. Let me know if you got anything
- 4:44Speaker 1: you're excited about recently. I'm super excited on the reading front.
- 4:49Speaker 1: I talked about this, I believe in the All Access
- 4:52Speaker 1: portion of last week's After Party episode. But I'm super
- 4:56Speaker 1: excited about the Chris Whitaker book that I'm reading, called
- 5:00Speaker 1: We Begin at the End. It reads, you know, I've
- 5:03Speaker 1: got Nebraska from Bruce Springsteen on my mind. It's been
- 5:05Speaker 1: a theme the last couple of weeks here, but it
- 5:07Speaker 1: reads like Nebraska sounds. The book is sparse, it's poetic,
- 5:11Speaker 1: it's thrilling. It's filled with characters that are barely hanging
- 5:15Speaker 1: onto a world is trying to shake shake them loose.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Nick Chris Whitaker has a new book out right now
- 5:20Speaker 1: that a ton of people are freaking out over. It's
- 5:22Speaker 1: number three on the New York Times bestseller list at
- 5:24Speaker 1: the moment, I believe I haven't read that yet, but
- 5:26Speaker 1: I'm psyched to that.
- 5:27Speaker 2: One's called All the Colors of the Dark.
- 5:28Speaker 1: You're probably going to hear about that, but when you do,
- 5:31Speaker 1: know that the book, his first book, called We Begin
- 5:35Speaker 1: at the End, is tremendous. This guy's a serious, serious author,
- 5:40Speaker 1: and I can't wait to read All this stuff, but
- 5:43Speaker 1: especially this new one, All the Colors of the Dark.
- 5:45Speaker 1: Also just finished reading Brian Wilson's autobiography called I Am
- 5:49Speaker 1: Brian Wilson and I'm here to say that I am
- 5:52Speaker 1: Jake Brennan, and this book broke my heart. I'm having
- 5:56Speaker 1: a hard time writing this Brian Wilson episode this week.
- 5:59Speaker 1: It's hard to find something original to say about a
- 6:02Speaker 1: guy who so much has already been said about. But
- 6:05Speaker 1: I think I found a unique way into Brian's incredible
- 6:08Speaker 1: story and I'll have this episode ready for you, guys shortly.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I can't wait to bring it to you. But before that,
- 6:14Speaker 1: coming up next to your feed, we've got our rewind
- 6:16Speaker 1: into our Studio fifty four episode. Of course, lots of sex,
- 6:21Speaker 1: lots of drugs, dead dude trapped in the walls, Federal
- 6:25Speaker 1: agents crashing the whole party. It's a whole thing, man.
- 6:29Speaker 1: That's coming up next to your feed right after the
- 6:31Speaker 1: bonus episode. Then after that next Tuesday, we're bringing you
- 6:34Speaker 1: our episode on the Replacements, a punk rock, rock and
- 6:39Speaker 1: roll cautionary tale of self destruction if there ever was one. Okay,
- 6:45Speaker 1: when you're listening to this Replacements episode, guys, I want
- 6:47Speaker 1: you to be thinking about which band or artist never
- 6:51Speaker 1: made it big but should have. Not that the Replacements
- 6:53Speaker 1: weren't big. They're legends in their own right. But you
- 6:57Speaker 1: gotta understand, people who were around then expected the Replacements
- 7:03Speaker 1: to be Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Okay, to be
- 7:08Speaker 1: the nineteen eighties version of the Rolling Stones. Okay, that
- 7:12Speaker 1: didn't happen. They weren't as big as most believe they
- 7:16Speaker 1: should have been. And we all know bands like this.
- 7:19Speaker 1: We all have even friends who were in bands who
- 7:22Speaker 1: were great bands, great musicians, that never got the de
- 7:25Speaker 1: that they deserve. So let me know it. Are the
- 7:28Speaker 1: Replacements the best example of that? Or are there other bands,
- 7:31Speaker 1: perhaps other artists that we should know about that You
- 7:33Speaker 1: might want to turn on other Disgraceland listeners, the other discos,
- 7:37Speaker 1: onto these artists, onto these bands that are more unknown
- 7:40Speaker 1: that never really broke through that should have. Okay, call
- 7:42Speaker 1: us six one seven nine was six six sixty three
- 7:44Speaker 1: eight dm us at Disgrace lam Pod and your answers
- 7:47Speaker 1: might land in next week's after party.
- 7:49Speaker 2: That's it from my world this week. Okay.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I could have spent, of course, an hour at least
- 7:55Speaker 1: talking about Seawan Colmbs.
- 7:56Speaker 2: I've been on.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I've been doing radio interviews all day across the country.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Maybe you're driving around Wichitak, Kansas, Chicago, Detroit.
- 8:04Speaker 2: Those are the ones I've done so far today, and
- 8:06Speaker 2: you might hear me. I don't know. We'll see. Got
- 8:07Speaker 2: more lined up for tomorrow.
- 8:09Speaker 1: But right now, I got your voicemails, your texts, and
- 8:11Speaker 1: your dms lined up right on the other side of
- 8:13Speaker 1: this brick.
- 8:38Speaker 2: All right, we are back. Apple podcast listeners. You know
- 8:40Speaker 2: the drill.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Turn on auto downloads. Okay, turn on your auto downloads
- 8:44Speaker 1: and your Apple Podcasts app. That way, you don't miss
- 8:47Speaker 1: any of our Disgraceline episodes. Okay, six one, seven, nine
- 8:51Speaker 1: oh six sixty six three eight. You know where I'm
- 8:53Speaker 1: atam in the phone booth. That's one across the hall.
- 8:54Speaker 1: I'm hanging on the telephone. You want to send me
- 8:56Speaker 1: a voicemail, You want to send me a text? Hit
- 8:58Speaker 1: me up voicemail And this week's question of the week
- 9:01Speaker 1: in relation to Frank Sinatra, who's the most gangster musician
- 9:04Speaker 1: of all time?
- 9:05Speaker 2: Karen Reid?
- 9:06Speaker 1: Karen Reid writes in Hey Jake, Karen Reid from the
- 9:10Speaker 1: two eight one sugar Land Texas. Not a Karen and
- 9:14Speaker 1: not that Karen Reid. I'm responding to your question of
- 9:17Speaker 1: the week. Frank Sinatra is definitely the most gangster actor
- 9:20Speaker 1: celebrity musician. I'm re listening to the Frank Sinatra episodes
- 9:23Speaker 1: right now. When you listen, I mean really listen. You
- 9:26Speaker 1: need a stringboard to connect all the characters, historical places, events, times,
- 9:30Speaker 1: and romantic liaisons.
- 9:32Speaker 2: You got me started down so.
- 9:33Speaker 1: Many rabbit holes with the new episode two Judas Campbell, Exner,
- 9:37Speaker 1: Laura Gooding aka Dorothylima, the kal Neva Casino Cia conspiracies,
- 9:43Speaker 1: and I need to know more. She goes on to say,
- 9:47Speaker 1: not having your podcast on my commute or anytime would
- 9:50Speaker 1: be a disgrace.
- 9:51Speaker 2: PS.
- 9:51Speaker 1: Diddy is a gangst, a less class unfortunately charismatic for
- 9:55Speaker 1: those he befriended and brought into his web of perversion,
- 9:58Speaker 1: ruthless and sexual depravity. I hope he gets what's coming.
- 10:02Speaker 1: If he doesn't, that's as grace. Happy fourth to you
- 10:04Speaker 1: with the team at Double Elves. Happy happy fourth of
- 10:06Speaker 1: July to you as well, Karen Reid. Happy to hear
- 10:10Speaker 1: you beat the route. I'm just kidding. I know nothing
- 10:12Speaker 1: about the Karen Reid case and I know you're not
- 10:13Speaker 1: the real Karen Reid. We had a pretty extensive conversation
- 10:16Speaker 1: last week about great Singer Songwriter's Greatest singer songwriter as
- 10:20Speaker 1: all time?
- 10:20Speaker 2: If you remember, we went through.
- 10:21Speaker 1: That list and I heard from a lot of you,
- 10:25Speaker 1: and there were some there were some serious singer songwriters
- 10:28Speaker 1: who were left off of that list. You guys have
- 10:30Speaker 1: reminded me of a ton seven to seven writes and Hey, Jake.
- 10:33Speaker 1: Two singer songwriter albums that would definitely be on my
- 10:36Speaker 1: list are Graham Parsons Grievous Angel and Tom Waits His
- 10:39Speaker 1: Frank's Wild Years. Love the Show, So keep doing what
- 10:42Speaker 1: you do.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Eric.
- 10:43Speaker 1: It's interesting to hear you put Grievous Angel ahead of GP.
- 10:47Speaker 1: They're both fantastic. I think GP is a smidge better
- 10:52Speaker 1: and really hard for me to pick a favorite Tom
- 10:56Speaker 1: Waits album. I don't know if I did, though, I
- 10:58Speaker 1: don't know that I love Frank's. I don't know if
- 11:00Speaker 1: that would be it. Maybe Swordfish Trombone I love Bone
- 11:07Speaker 1: Machine too, even though later kind of messed up that
- 11:10Speaker 1: both those artists weren't on the list. Leonard Cohen was
- 11:13Speaker 1: also left off the list. Someone else pointed out Billy
- 11:16Speaker 1: Joel Elton John three h two rights in. Warren Zevon
- 11:20Speaker 1: and John Prine are for sure among the best singer
- 11:22Speaker 1: songwriters of all time, but The Wind is a far
- 11:26Speaker 1: better album than Zevon's self titled second album. He does
- 11:29Speaker 1: a haunting cover of Knocking on Heaven's Store as he is,
- 11:32Speaker 1: in fact dying well, I need to hear that. That's
- 11:35Speaker 1: gonna make me sad though. Four one five rights in, Hey,
- 11:38Speaker 1: Joni Mitchell, how could she be left off the list?
- 11:41Speaker 1: It's a really good, really good point. That's Glenn in
- 11:44Speaker 1: the four one five, six one seven rights in. Favorite
- 11:46Speaker 1: singer songwriter album is Living with Ghosts by Patty Griffin.
- 11:50Speaker 2: That's a bold statement. Six one seven.
- 11:52Speaker 1: I would expect nothing less from somebody back in my
- 11:56Speaker 1: hometown seven two four, Hey, Jake, just listen to your
- 11:59Speaker 1: after party episode. You asked about great singer songwriters. I
- 12:02Speaker 1: gotta say my favorites that you didn't mention were Gordon
- 12:05Speaker 1: Lightfoot and Marty Robbins, and both can be seen as
- 12:07Speaker 1: some of the most successful, especially for the genre. Marty Robbins,
- 12:11Speaker 1: I get Oh Devil Woman. Gordon Lightfoot on the other hand.
- 12:14Speaker 2: I mean, I get it. I get the love for
- 12:15Speaker 2: Gordon Lightfoot not one of my faves. Maybe it should be.
- 12:18Speaker 1: I love Beck's Sea Change, and people often say that
- 12:20Speaker 1: Sea Change by Beck is a Gordon Lightfoot ripoff. I
- 12:23Speaker 1: think it's more of a Serge Gainsburger ripoff.
- 12:25Speaker 2: But I don't know.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Get back at me seven two four let me know
- 12:28Speaker 1: where to start with Gordon Lightfoot. God, these these messages
- 12:31Speaker 1: on the singer songwriter stuff are quite pretty endless.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Here five four to Roh writes and brings up.
- 12:36Speaker 1: Steve Earle five four oh Steven in the five four
- 12:38Speaker 1: oh Steve row one of the all time greats.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Have fun.
- 12:43Speaker 1: I have a couple funny stories about Steve rol I've
- 12:44Speaker 1: probably shared him with you guys before.
- 12:46Speaker 2: I won't. I won't belabor it.
- 12:49Speaker 1: All right, let's check out this voicemail here again, I'm
- 12:51Speaker 1: the same subject. Here's the four one four.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Hey, Jake, this is right.
- 12:56Speaker 5: I am calling to respond to your after show the
- 13:01Speaker 5: other night, actually last night, and you were talking about
- 13:05Speaker 5: singer songwriters and I did not understand why no one
- 13:09Speaker 5: mentions Tom Waits as an incredible singer songwriter. He is
- 13:14Speaker 5: beyond amazing and also Nick Cave, I know that he
- 13:20Speaker 5: sometimes writes with his band, but I believe that he
- 13:23Speaker 5: writes a lot of stuff himself. So I was hoping
- 13:27Speaker 5: that maybe you guys could think about doing episodes on
- 13:30Speaker 5: them that would be amazing.
- 13:32Speaker 4: Yeah, and oh.
- 13:34Speaker 5: Oh damn, there was another thing that I thought of.
- 13:36Speaker 4: But I'm gonna have to tell you that.
- 13:38Speaker 3: All right, you take care, All.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Right, Ram calls back when you remember what you wanted
- 13:41Speaker 1: to say. I just talked about Tom Waits, and you know,
- 13:44Speaker 1: I can add a little bit here. When I was
- 13:46Speaker 1: just starting out as an adult in making music, if
- 13:51Speaker 1: you asked me which artist's career what I want to replicate?
- 13:56Speaker 2: What if the answer would have been Tom Waits? For sure?
- 13:58Speaker 1: Of course, I wasn't doing anything close to approaching the
- 14:01Speaker 1: greatness that Tom Waits was doing, nor was I really
- 14:04Speaker 1: trying that hard. Nick Cave tremendous as well. This is
- 14:10Speaker 1: really hard. There's no way you can come up with
- 14:12Speaker 1: ten a list of ten of the greatest singer songwriters.
- 14:15Speaker 1: There's just there's too many you have to leave off.
- 14:17Speaker 1: You're gonna leave Nick Cave off that list.
- 14:19Speaker 2: PJ. Harvey, PJ. Harvey, Leonard Cohen, No, you can't.
- 14:25Speaker 4: Hey, Jake, this is Clint from the seven to two
- 14:27Speaker 4: to four. Try out Jim Carroll Catholic Boy for a
- 14:32Speaker 4: singer songwriter album. I think he wrote most of the
- 14:35Speaker 4: songs on that album, and the production and everything on
- 14:38Speaker 4: its killer. It's just a good one from like the
- 14:40Speaker 4: late seventies. Bro, keep it up, you do a good job.
- 14:43Speaker 4: Thanks man, Bye Clinton.
- 14:45Speaker 2: The seven two four. I actually don't know that record
- 14:48Speaker 2: that well.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I mean, I've heard I think that's the one that
- 14:50Speaker 1: has people who died and whatever the other song single
- 14:55Speaker 1: was that got some tractions. I know those tunes of course,
- 14:57Speaker 1: even though I can't think of the other one's name
- 14:59Speaker 1: right now, But I don't know that as an album.
- 15:01Speaker 1: So great recommendation, and I'm pumped to be reminded to
- 15:05Speaker 1: check out Jim Carroll. Jim Carroll should be an episode
- 15:08Speaker 1: of Disgraceland. I've never seen the Basketball Diaries, by the way,
- 15:12Speaker 1: have you, guys?
- 15:13Speaker 2: I have not? Six one seven nine oh six six
- 15:16Speaker 2: six three eight.
- 15:17Speaker 1: You want to hit me up, leave voicemail or text
- 15:19Speaker 1: at Disgraceland pod on Instagram, TikTok x, and Facebook if
- 15:24Speaker 1: you want to get in touch with me over there.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Kelly Van Violet sibling.
- 15:29Speaker 1: I believe I'm pronouncing that correctly, but I'm probably not
- 15:32Speaker 1: right saying, hey, I just happened to listen to the podcast,
- 15:34Speaker 1: your podcast for the Beach Boys within the last two
- 15:36Speaker 1: days on Disgraceland. I finished it up this morning on
- 15:39Speaker 1: way to work, and I can tell you what the
- 15:40Speaker 1: Beach Boys meant to me growing up as somebody whose
- 15:44Speaker 1: mother grew up in the sixties, somebody who was heavily
- 15:45Speaker 1: influenced on this music. I am deeply saddened to hear
- 15:50Speaker 1: the news about Brian Wilson. Thank you for sharing your stuff.
- 15:53Speaker 2: You know.
- 15:53Speaker 1: I gotta say here, Kelly and everybody else when the
- 15:58Speaker 1: news about Brian Wilson's death, you know, it didn't really
- 16:01Speaker 1: affect me one way or another. Old rock stars die
- 16:03Speaker 1: all the time. Oftentimes rock stars die and you can
- 16:07Speaker 1: immediately feel the hole, and we felt that. I felt
- 16:12Speaker 1: that with other people. I didn't feel it myself. But
- 16:14Speaker 1: now that I've been in this research and writing for
- 16:17Speaker 1: the last week and a half on Brian Wilson, I
- 16:20Speaker 1: do feel a tremendous amount of sadness this guy and
- 16:23Speaker 1: I knew all this before, but when you get into
- 16:25Speaker 1: his head, especially in the autobiography. He was not only
- 16:30Speaker 1: a genius, not only a hugely important cultural figure in
- 16:33Speaker 1: our culture, he was also a man who was largely
- 16:38Speaker 1: a child. And I don't mean that in a negative way.
- 16:41Speaker 1: I mean that in kind of the best way, and
- 16:43Speaker 1: his mental illness certainly had something to do with that.
- 16:46Speaker 2: He was taken advantage of.
- 16:48Speaker 1: He God, it's really rough because there's so much innocence
- 16:55Speaker 1: in his songs, Innocence and beauty. And I've listened to
- 16:59Speaker 1: that sort of nineties late or early nineties. I believe
- 17:03Speaker 1: think it's nineteen ninety one, the Love and Mercy track
- 17:06Speaker 1: that album. But that's so the song Love and Mercy,
- 17:08Speaker 1: I should say, I don't think that's the any of
- 17:10Speaker 1: the album With the song Love and Mercy. I've it's
- 17:12Speaker 1: just been on repeat the last few days, and it's
- 17:16Speaker 1: it's wrecked me. It's so simple, it's so beautiful. It's
- 17:19Speaker 1: such a fantastic representation I think of who Brian Wilson
- 17:23Speaker 1: was as a person, as a character, and I'm a
- 17:27Speaker 1: bit wrecked by it. And I'm looking forward for all
- 17:31Speaker 1: of you, you, especially Kelly, hearing this Brian Wilson episode.
- 17:34Speaker 1: So thanks for writing, you guys want to hit me
- 17:36Speaker 1: up at Disgrace Slam pod on the socials, go for it.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Wicked Wanda writes, in in relation to Sean Ditty Combs,
- 17:43Speaker 1: he is guilty, like Ojy, Wicked Wanda and everybody else,
- 17:47Speaker 1: I feel your pain, you know, I just circle them
- 17:50Speaker 1: back to the diddy thing here. I have this one thought,
- 17:52Speaker 1: and I've been talking about this all day. We can't
- 17:55Speaker 1: unsee what Sean Combs did to Cassie Ventura, but he
- 17:59Speaker 1: was on trial for that, and I do think he's
- 18:04Speaker 1: guilty of things if they weren't proven. Two things can
- 18:07Speaker 1: be true at once. I can't exactly say what those
- 18:11Speaker 1: things are.
- 18:12Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 18:13Speaker 1: I don't think really anyone truly knows who's on the
- 18:15Speaker 1: outside like we are. But I think it's also possible
- 18:19Speaker 1: that the government overreached here, and that's why we ended
- 18:21Speaker 1: up where we ended up.
- 18:22Speaker 2: Shocking.
- 18:23Speaker 1: I don't think the guy's gonna do any time. I
- 18:27Speaker 1: mean he'll do sometime, but not real time. So yeah,
- 18:31Speaker 1: you're oj komp it might be entirely accurate. Wicked Wanda,
- 18:36Speaker 1: thanks for checking in. All right, let's switch gears here.
- 18:38Speaker 1: Let's get into our little sports section of the sow
- 18:41Speaker 1: this this is this is a sixty second sports rant
- 18:43Speaker 1: and under thirty seconds or whatever we're calling this segment
- 18:45Speaker 1: for the discos who are also sports geeks like me.
- 18:48Speaker 1: All right, Mack, give me the buzzer, give you the
- 18:49Speaker 1: little buzzer beater thing me. All right, listen, Sports world
- 18:52Speaker 1: kind of dead right now. Okay, not a lot going on.
- 18:54Speaker 1: I don't care about tennis or the WNBA beating the
- 18:59Speaker 1: piss out of Caitlin Car What the hell is that
- 19:00Speaker 1: all about?
- 19:01Speaker 2: By the way, I did it. Like I said, not
- 19:03Speaker 2: a lot going on.
- 19:04Speaker 1: So I did a quick google of the five greatest
- 19:07Speaker 1: sports movies of all time, and Vulture gave me the
- 19:10Speaker 1: following number five Fox Catcher, Never seen it. Number four
- 19:14Speaker 1: Bull Durham Great, might be too high on this list.
- 19:17Speaker 1: Number three Rocky wrong answer. This should be number two
- 19:19Speaker 1: two they have here in Vulture on the list, Number two,
- 19:22Speaker 1: Raging Bull. That's also the wrong answer. That should be
- 19:24Speaker 1: number three. Number one Hoop Dreams great, great, great movie,
- 19:28Speaker 1: but wrong. The correct answer is to the question of
- 19:32Speaker 1: what is the greatest sports movie of all time? Well,
- 19:34Speaker 1: that is, of course, Slapshot from nineteen seventy seven. Featuring
- 19:38Speaker 1: Paul Newman, The Handsome Brothers, and Eddie Shore's Old time
- 19:41Speaker 1: Hockey Tell Me I'm wrong six one seven nine O
- 19:43Speaker 1: six six six three eight.
- 19:44Speaker 6: I'll be back in the flash.
- 20:00Speaker 1: All right, guys, welcome back to the show. We are back, back,
- 20:02Speaker 1: back back. This week, the hollywood Land Minute is brought
- 20:05Speaker 1: to you by Roman Polanski. Sort of that doesn't really
- 20:07Speaker 1: make sense, but you know what I'm talking about. The
- 20:09Speaker 1: hollywood Land episode we're featuring this week is on Roman Polanski. Okay,
- 20:13Speaker 1: from Chinatown to exile, oscar acclaim to extradition, battles, and
- 20:18Speaker 1: all kinds of other disgraceful things that I'm not going
- 20:20Speaker 1: to get into here. You need to subscribe to Hollywood
- 20:23Speaker 1: Land to hear this episode, Okay. And of course, in
- 20:26Speaker 1: addition to this episode, this week, Zeth and I, my guys,
- 20:29Speaker 1: Zeth guy who writes most of the Hollywoodland episodes.
- 20:32Speaker 2: He and I.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Every week we're doing a whole other bonus thing over there.
- 20:35Speaker 1: It's called the Rap Party right in the Hollywood Land feed,
- 20:37Speaker 1: all right, complete with our recommendations, our movies, music even
- 20:41Speaker 1: all right, Matt, give them a little taste, give them
- 20:43Speaker 1: a little bit of the rap party, Jake.
- 20:45Speaker 3: What's going on? Brothers Tony from the two O six
- 20:47Speaker 3: Just listen to the Roman Polansky episode, and Uh's talk
- 20:51Speaker 3: about the question you ask about. Are you able to
- 20:54Speaker 3: you know, separate the artists from their art, the creator
- 20:57Speaker 3: from their art, And honestly, if it's more easier for
- 21:01Speaker 3: me to do in movies than it is say music,
- 21:04Speaker 3: for example, Like I know a lot of people that
- 21:06Speaker 3: will still watch a John Wayne film and can totally
- 21:10Speaker 3: separate that from who John Wayne was the person. You know,
- 21:14Speaker 3: Google the nineteen seventy one Playboy article versus music. Like
- 21:19Speaker 3: for me, I can't listen to any of R. Kelly's
- 21:22Speaker 3: music anymore because a lot of his music is him
- 21:24Speaker 3: telling on himself, you know. And I guess with Roman
- 21:28Speaker 3: Polanski it's kind of like with some of his.
- 21:31Speaker 4: Work telling on himself in a way.
- 21:32Speaker 3: I don't know, but that's just my take on it. Man.
- 21:35Speaker 3: Much love to you, much love in the two six.
- 21:38Speaker 3: I hope you're having a good summer. Stay hydrated, brother.
- 21:41Speaker 2: Tony in the two US six. Great to hear from you.
- 21:44Speaker 1: Great way to frame this question when you're comparing the
- 21:48Speaker 1: transgressions of film directors and musicians. I think maybe put
- 21:54Speaker 1: the telling on yourself aside, piece aside for a second.
- 21:57Speaker 1: But the I don't know his music more personal? Is
- 22:01Speaker 1: that what it is?
- 22:02Speaker 2: Zeth? Is that what makes it harder? I think it
- 22:05Speaker 2: could be.
- 22:05Speaker 7: I think there's a big part of what the music
- 22:07Speaker 7: that you listen to being such a part of your
- 22:10Speaker 7: identity in a way that the movies that you watch
- 22:13Speaker 7: aren't part of your identity. I don't have a fast
- 22:17Speaker 7: clear answer for why that is the case. But music
- 22:19Speaker 7: has always been such a part of who you are.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Yeah, certainly for me, But but movies too to some degree,
- 22:26Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, Woody Allen is certainly in
- 22:30Speaker 1: Manhattan telling on himself to use, to use Tony's phrase,
- 22:36Speaker 1: but I can I still love that movie, and.
- 22:40Speaker 2: I guess I don't know. I don't. I don't know
- 22:42Speaker 2: if it's different between musicians and directors for me.
- 22:46Speaker 1: All Right, guys, that's Hollywood Land that is available wherever
- 22:49Speaker 1: you get your podcasts. That's our little you know, our
- 22:51Speaker 1: corner of the of the movie is in true crime

- 23:31Speaker 1: that we've covered, and we've covered so many of them,

- 24:28Speaker 1: per month just for five bucks. I say just for
- 24:31Speaker 1: five bucks, like five bucks doesn't mean anything, it does.
- 24:34Speaker 1: I get it. It's hard to buy anything with five
- 24:36Speaker 1: bucks these days, cause shit is expansive, Okay, but I
- 24:40Speaker 1: like to think what we're providing for five bucks is

- 25:12Speaker 2: for another after party.

- 25:16Speaker 1: this episode that we've covered in our previous episodes of Disgrace,
- 25:20Speaker 1: and of course Sean Diddy combs two episodes on Shawn Comes.
- 25:22Speaker 2: You want to hear those.
- 25:23Speaker 1: The second one gets explicitly into the Cassi Ventura indictment.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Check that out. We also mentioned Nirvanda. I'm not sure
- 25:31Speaker 2: who else.

- 26:24Speaker 2: On December eighth.
- 26:26Speaker 1: However, nineteen sixty three, Frank Sinatra's son was kidnapped, and
- 26:30Speaker 1: a mafia and force's phone calls set off a chain
