- 0:01Welcome to authentic living with Roxanne, a place where we have as conversations about
- 0:08things that really matter in our lives.
- 0:11And now here's your host, Roxanne Derhodge.
- 0:35Everyone.
- 0:36It's Roxanne Durgesh of authentic living with Roxanne.
- 0:38Thanks so much for tuning in again this week with us.
- 0:42Today, I have a a new colleague, Doctor Stephanie Stanfield, Doctor.
- 0:46Steph is a colleague we've met.
- 0:48We have some mutual, acquaintances that we've worked with around, or concerns that we deal
- 0:55with in IT with our business, in this virtual world.
- 0:58So let me tell you a little bit about doctor Stefan why it's so timely that having her on at
- 1:02the time, in the world, of the pandemic is is so key.
- 1:08She's a stress management mentor.
- 1:12She has degrees and post graduate qualifications, to support women to live a life
- 1:17of thriving.
- 1:18She community.
- 1:19It's health and well-being from all aspect and something that we are vitally need even more
- 1:24so.
- 1:25That's the world's that we talk about, but even more so today, her motto is be healthy, be
- 1:30wealthy.
- 1:31She encourages, she loves to engage people with different activities and exercises to encourage
- 1:37them to balance themselves and create a space of peace every day, something that I know is
- 1:41fleeting at best, with what the state we're in.
- 1:45She's involved in the creation of create your daily daily inspiration on Oracle Deck card,
- 1:50which would, I would love to hear more about that.
- 1:53And it's a fun workshop and people leave with their creation of an inspiring deck to you so
- 1:58they create their own.
- 1:59That's amazing.
- 2:00Mhmm.
- 2:01And She's a coach, countless people, establishing a stroke of thriving and healing
- 2:08from health conditions, such as sleep issues, which I know a lot of people are complaining
- 2:11about lately, even more so.
- 2:13Headaches, absolutely, and then immune related issues, as well as relationship shoes.
- 2:20So doctor Steph, so let's let's talk about, you know, you were talking about she was talking
- 2:26about some of the some of the founding forefathers of the energy medicine that I have
- 2:32been studying for years, Doctor.
- 2:34Blue, Lipton is one of them, and she's actually work closely with them.
- 2:38So tell me what got you on this path of, helping.
- 2:43And then in turn, how did you divert into energy medicine.
- 2:48It's fascinating Roxanne, and thank you so much for having me on your show.
- 2:52First of all, I really wanna show gratitude because that's one of the key healing skills
- 2:57that people can practice all the time and get great benefits from it.
- 3:03I actually, have worked at a hospital, non clinical, and taught CPR for 16 years.
- 3:10So I was very well based in conventional medicine and thought that they could help me.
- 3:15I have a 15 year had a 15 year history of migraines and allergies.
- 3:20And my nervous system was deteriorating so rapidly that I was told that I'd probably be
- 3:25dead or in a bubble by the time I was 55.
- 3:29I'm 66 now.
- 3:30I'm a grandma.
- 3:31I have so many wonderful things in my life, and I was blessed with taking a course of mind body
- 3:39spirit integration that I now use as a basis for my coaching platform And I learned about
- 3:46energy medicine and integration, and I studied with people that I consider the best of the
- 3:52best.
- 3:53Doctor.
- 3:53Norm Shealy was actually my advisor in my PhD program for energy medicine and my doctorate of
- 4:00Theology, which is a th HD.
- 4:03And it's so great because Norm was a neurosurgeon.
- 4:06So I could come to him with kind of conventional speak, and he could interpret how
- 4:12that turned into energy medicine.
- 4:15He, collaborates with a woman named Carolyn Mace.
- 4:19Yes.
- 4:19Who
- 4:20is very famous.
- 4:21Yes.
- 4:21Yes.
- 4:23And through him, I was exposed to Bruce Lipton and Brayden and some of the people that are so
- 4:30wonderful in their leading edge research.
- 4:34Bruce of course has written biology of belief.
- 4:36He's a cellular biologist.
- 4:38So during this COVID 19 crisis of health, I turned to him and listened to him I have
- 4:47developed several programs that I can deliver online, so no one needs to get near.
- 4:53We can maintain computer distancing, not even social distancing.
- 4:58Based on some of my own issues, like sleep, acne, migraines and all of those.
- 5:03So I I've been in the trenches where people are with the hopeless and helpless, and I help
- 5:10people get their hope back, get their health back, and learn how to manage the sympathetic
- 5:16and parasympathetic nervous system.
- 5:19So, Doctor Deh, Doctor Steff, from the basics, let's say somebody has never heard about
- 5:23energy.
- 5:23You and I, we we would probably be able to use all this lingo because of what we do on our
- 5:28background.
- 5:29So explain to someone the basics of energy and how flow is impacted, when you're positive when
- 5:37you're negative, like, the state that the world is in definitely we're we are in flux.
- 5:41We are in fear, and chaos.
- 5:44So explain the basics so people can get a sense of what energy medicine is and how energy
- 5:49distributes throughout our our our body.
- 5:53Energy medicine is no is based on a lot of ancient Chinese medicine or Japanese medicine.
- 6:02I'm a reiki master.
- 6:04What energy medicine is is the understanding that we are as well organized energetically and
- 6:11anatomically as we are physiologically.
- 6:14So in conventional medicine, we look at the blood circulatory system, and we look at the
- 6:21nervous system, and we because we dissected people, and we could figure out where nerves
- 6:27went, and all of that.
- 6:29In energy medicine, it has the same type of system.
- 6:34Instead of organs, you have chakras, which are small, energy data systems in your body that
- 6:42correlate, actually a lot of people don't realize this, with major nerve plexus in your
- 6:48body.
- 6:50Did you know that?
- 6:51No.
- 6:51I, you know, I don't know.
- 6:52I know a bit about the chakras.
- 6:56From some basic information, Doctor Steph, but don't know it at the level.
- 7:00So I'm I'm very curious about it.
- 7:02So every place that you have a nerve plexus in your body, even the palms of your hand and your
- 7:08feet, where nerves come together, and then they separate out.
- 7:12You have a chakra.
- 7:13You actually have chakras in your palms of your hands and other places where there are nerve
- 7:17plexes.
- 7:18Most people are familiar with the 7 major chakras.
- 7:22And chakras actually just means spinning vortex or spinning wheel.
- 7:27So you have a chakra at the base of your torso.
- 7:32You have a chakra at your sacral plexus, and it's right below your belly button in the
- 7:39center of your body.
- 7:40You have a chakra at your solar plexus, and we it's a solar plexus.
- 7:45We call it our solar plexus.
- 7:48Which means just an intersection of nerves.
- 7:51You have a shock right your heart plexus.
- 7:54You have a shock right your throat.
- 7:56You have a chakra at your brow, and you have a chakra of your cram.
- 8:00And so these energy centers relate to different organs in the body similarly to where the
- 8:06nerves that intervene in those places go as well.
- 8:11And just as those nerves and organs have a function, your chakras have a function.
- 8:17In this time of high fear, Fear is in the base chakra that that bottom part in in the very,
- 8:29bottom of your torso.
- 8:31And the emotion associated with that chakra is fear.
- 8:36And so it's when you get into a fear state, it kind of collapses the chakras so that they
- 8:46don't function normally.
- 8:47They need to be open.
- 8:48They need to be flowing.
- 8:49They need to be taking information in and sending information out and when you are in a
- 8:55fear state, those chakras close down to protect And so fear is protection, fear is
- 9:06constriction, fear is survival, A normal state is thriving, not surviving, and your chakras
- 9:16are open and flowing and information and energy moves easily among them.
- 9:22So a lot of people have been talking and I have I know I have been experiencing it, you know,
- 9:28with all of us like the US and Canada and and globally are social distancing.
- 9:33And, you know, when we get out there, I I'm not going out other than to do the basics of being
- 9:38asked, doing my part, and as I'm sure you're doing too.
- 9:41Mhmm.
- 9:41But
- 9:42when you go out, you know, I get this you know, visceral feeling that comes over me.
- 9:48And when I say visceral, I say, look, it's like a body reaction where I'm like, why I'm not
- 9:54feeling so good?
- 9:55Like, it it's it's almost like, you know, what am I not well physically?
- 10:00You know, and then I'm and I come back home and I think, well, what?
- 10:03I wasn't all out that long.
- 10:05So I'm thinking it's energy because I'm absorbing the energy of what I'm experiencing
- 10:11when I'm out there.
- 10:12Does that make sense from an energy medicine perspective?
- 10:16Absolutely.
- 10:17And we speak energy very fluently.
- 10:19And instantaneously and simultaneously.
- 10:23So when we step out and you get that visceral, that closing down, That's the nervous system,
- 10:31and you're feeling that, but we also do it energetically.
- 10:35So you have 2 branches of your nervous system, like your central nervous system is your brain
- 10:41and your spinal cord, the peripheral system of the nerves coming out of your spinal cord.
- 10:47And then the autonomic nervous system is sympathetic activity and parasympathetic
- 10:53activity.
- 10:54Sympathetic activity is designed for fight flight or freeze.
- 11:00And it's a visceral reaction just like you're describing.
- 11:03Just cock.
- 11:05Where the saber tooth tiger is there, the threat is there.
- 11:09Right.
- 11:09And your body responds viscerally, but your energy system also responds.
- 11:17So that's fight flight or freeze.
- 11:19Sympathetic, and it's a fear based with all of the emotions.
- 11:23So when people say I'm worried about they're shifting over to sympathetic activity.
- 11:29In that activity, you don't take in nutrients.
- 11:33You don't eliminate toxins.
- 11:35You just close down, like kind of I don't know if in Canada you have what's called
- 11:40rolypolybugs, but they're this little tiny bug that has the shell.
- 11:44And when you touch them, they turn into a little circle.
- 11:49That's what your body does.
- 11:50It closes itself down to survive.
- 11:53So your only options there are fight, flight, or freeze.
- 11:58And your thinking and your movements reflect that activity.
- 12:04Mhmm.
- 12:05Parasympathetic.
- 12:06Most people call it rest and digest, but it's so much more.
- 12:10It's thriving.
- 12:11Your blood flows to all aspects of who you are, not to your arms and legs so that you can fight
- 12:17or flight, but to all in the prefrontal cortex instead of the back part of the brain that's
- 12:24called the reptilian brainstem.
- 12:27Your body temperature actually changes, and you kind of warm up as your blood vessels expand.
- 12:33You get blood flow to your fingers and your arms.
- 12:38And your energy system opens up and you start feeling connected to things.
- 12:46Not connected, connected.
- 12:49And the fee the emotion associated with parasympathetic is love in all of its wonderful
- 12:55aspects.
- 12:57So let's let's think about the world right now and the average person that's going through
- 13:02what we're all going through.
- 13:03Right?
- 13:04And even if you're conscious like you and I are and you do certain things, there's still that
- 13:09energy regardless you know, by the news, by by the post that you see on social media, by your
- 13:18kids wanted to go outside, but you can't really go out and play with their friends or the your
- 13:22teenagers that are like, oh my goodness.
- 13:24Like, I I don't know what to do.
- 13:25I'm stuck in this house with you.
- 13:26Lots of things.
- 13:27Right?
- 13:27So we're we're it's it's swirling.
- 13:30So people are talking about a lot of physiological things that are happening symptom
- 13:34wise.
- 13:35So let's talk a little bit about that because I think that's important because that's where
- 13:38everybody's at you know, the other morning at 3 o'clock, and I'm a I'm a phenomenal sleeper out
- 13:45of nowhere.
- 13:46I I was up And I could not unplug to go back to sleep.
- 13:50So I thought, oh, I'm gonna lay here.
- 13:52I mean, and then I I I said, okay.
- 13:54You know, the only way I'm gonna get back to to sleep is I went out.
- 13:56I I got my headset, and I put on a meditation and eventually after after about 45 minutes, I
- 14:02doze back off.
- 14:03And a lot of people are talking about things like that.
- 14:06So let's talk about some of the symptoms when we're in that panic fear state that the body
- 14:11starts to develop that you've worked with over the years.
- 14:14And I'm sure in your coaching you're seeing a lot more of now.
- 14:18Well, let's talk a little bit about what I call the 5 self healing skills.
- 14:24Belly breathing, drinking enough water, you'll probably see me drink, water.
- 14:33Awareness, present moment living, and exactly what you were talking about, quiet.
- 14:42Meditation coming into the sense of self.
- 14:48So belly breathing is so phenomenal for shifting you out of the activity of the
- 14:54sympathetic nervous system into the activity of the parasympathetic.
- 14:58It is a natural switch.
- 15:00We everybody breathes.
- 15:03Right.
- 15:03But some people don't breathe properly.
- 15:05They'll just they'll just stab.
- 15:06So let's talk about that because, Oftentimes people are, you know, their breath is going
- 15:13across versus up and down.
- 15:13So the average person, I mean, may maybe most people are doing it well, but I think it's an
- 15:21important thing to discuss because, you know, you know, we often say, you know, put your hand
- 15:27on, you know, on your chest and put it on your belly.
- 15:29Make sure that when you're you're breathing in, your lower tummy goes, gets out, but most
- 15:33people are like, what do you mean?
- 15:34What do you mean?
- 15:35You're telling me I'm breathing wrong.
- 15:37I know they say I breathe all the time.
- 15:39It works.
- 15:39Yeah.
- 15:39That's not the kind of thing you think about.
- 15:41Oh, yeah.
- 15:41You gotta think about it.
- 15:42So can you explain some maybe some steps are little tips on how we know if we're doing it
- 15:47right.
- 15:47Yes.
- 15:48If I ask someone to take a deep breath and they go, and they lift their chest and shoulders.
- 15:55They're using the wrong muscles.
- 15:56And then people when I used to do massage therapy, they'd say, I carry my stress here.
- 16:01I'd say, no, you're not carrying your stress here.
- 16:03You are breathing using the wrong muscles.
- 16:07These are not your breathing muscles.
- 16:09The small muscles in between your ribs are not your breathing muscles.
- 16:13So if I asked you to lift like a 10 pound weight with your little finger, this finger
- 16:19would get very tired very quickly because it's not designed to do that.
- 16:22Right.
- 16:23Your diaphragm is your muscle that sits under your rib cage, and it's a big muscle, and it's
- 16:31your breathing muscle.
- 16:34So when you belly breathe, the diaphragm should contract down and push down as you draw the air
- 16:41all the way into your lungs completely and totally into your lungs.
- 16:46The lower third of your lungs actually has the highest concentration of capillaries for
- 16:52oxygenating your body.
- 16:54Right?
- 16:56And if you don't draw the air down in there and change it out regularly, like every 2 minutes
- 17:01or 3 minutes, that air doesn't have any oxygen left in it.
- 17:07So you're actually stressing your body out with the air trying to give your body oxygen and
- 17:13there's no oxygen there.
- 17:15So you need to breathe deeply and get that residual volume out of your lungs and breathe
- 17:22in fresh oxygenated air and then out and in.
- 17:28The only way you can do that is to use your diaphragm.
- 17:31And when you do use your diaphragm, it actually massages your abdomen so you stay regular.
- 17:38So let's think of this.
- 17:40If fear sits in the bottom chakra, you start getting constipated.
- 17:47Okay?
- 17:48You don't go to the bathroom.
- 17:49And fear, again, I relate this symbolically to the buying of toilet paper.
- 17:56Okay?
- 17:57Oh, interesting.
- 17:58I
- 17:58have to have my toilet paper.
- 17:59I have to have my toilet paper because it sits in that first chakra that regulates some of the
- 18:05elimination that body does.
- 18:07So a lot of people fear bot toilet paper.
- 18:12It's normal.
- 18:13And, and when you understand the energetics that sit behind that, people were fear driven,
- 18:18not driven with there is enough for everyone.
- 18:23Okay?
- 18:24So your belly breathing and you're moving and you're massaging and your digestion works
- 18:29because when you're stressed, you get headaches.
- 18:33Mhmm.
- 18:33You pour sleep.
- 18:36Your body's functioning, including your immune system.
- 18:41A stressed immune system is a sick immune system.
- 18:46So you can actually get sick, fearing yourself into the symptoms of what's out there.
- 18:56Is that fascinating?
- 18:58Yes.
- 18:58It is.
- 18:58It is.
- 18:59Because if you think about it and we've talked about the impact of we, you know, we seen
- 19:03what's happened, but we've been talking about the health implications of what COVID 19 will
- 19:08do for us.
- 19:09And they think that that will be an astronomical number economically on us because
- 19:14that it's gonna be to the, the poor health of people that are experiencing just what we're
- 19:19talking about.
- 19:20Right.
- 19:21Right.
- 19:22So, immune disorders, autoimmune disorders like lupus, res, RA, arthritis.
- 19:32All of these things where the immune system of the body has not been nourished and supported
- 19:39enough that it recognizes the foreign invaders and can respond appropriately So any autoimmune
- 19:47disorder, sleeplessness, headaches, indigestion, acid reflux.
- 19:54Do you know where acid reflux?
- 19:57Okay.
- 19:59That's actually high sympathetic activity because the, trachea for your stomach goes
- 20:07through your diaphragm.
- 20:08If you're not moving your diaphragm it constricts the trachea, then your acid builds
- 20:14up, and you get ulcers and acid reflux, whereas if you're using your diaphragm to breathe, and
- 20:22it moves the trachea can function normally as it reflux goes away.
- 20:30So some of the basic symptoms that people probably are experiencing right now is
- 20:35sleeplessness.
- 20:37Headaches, you said probably, GI or, intestinal kind of discomfort like, what I talked about
- 20:45when I went out and I was like, and I've never had
- 20:47At this room.
- 20:48Yeah.
- 20:48That digestive stuff.
- 20:49And I was like, what is it?
- 20:51Like, you know, so what other things might people be experiencing symptom wise would you
- 20:57think?
- 20:58Just again, what you suggested, and Again, if we step back into the 5 self healing skills, if
- 21:04you're belly breathing, if you're drinking enough water, which is one half ounce per pound
- 21:10of body weight.
- 21:13I I was talking to a friend who threw her electrolytes totally out of balance because she
- 21:17was drinking so much water.
- 21:20And she kept saying, I don't know why I'm so low energy.
- 21:23I'm drinking all this water.
- 21:25Well, 1 half ounce per pound of body weight.
- 21:28So if you weigh a £100.
- 21:30It's 50 ounces.
- 21:32That's that way it's individualized to you.
- 21:35Right.
- 21:36And you're eliminating weight appropriately and maintaining hormonal insulin, electrolyte
- 21:42balances.
- 21:44Then you come to awareness In my sleep studies and in my sleep classes, I actually tell people
- 21:51your sleep experience begins from the moment you wake up.
- 21:56What are you telling yourself?
- 21:59If you wake up in the morning and go, I woke up at 3.
- 22:03I hope I don't wake up 3 tomorrow night.
- 22:05I hope I don't
- 22:06wake up.
- 22:07I hope I don't.
- 22:08You're programming your nervous system to wake up at 3.
- 22:12Right?
- 22:12And you know what I said to this morning?
- 22:14It's funny.
- 22:14You said that doc.
- 22:15I said, what a this is what I said to myself this morning.
- 22:19I'm a word of a like, what a great sleep.
- 22:22I wanna have those kind of nights more.
- 22:24This morning, I said that because I had an awesome sleep last night.
- 22:28Yes.
- 22:29So you actually start programming your nervous system for your sleep experience as soon as you
- 22:35wake up.
- 22:36Oh, I hope I sleep better tonight.
- 22:38Well, no.
- 22:40You may not, but how do you become aware of that?
- 22:43So your thoughts are part of that awareness of healing skills when you become aware of what
- 22:50you're thinking and programming into your nervous system.
- 22:54Oh, I hope I don't get sick.
- 22:56What your nervous system actually hears is nouns and verbs.
- 23:00So what it hears is get sick.
- 23:04So you wanna become aware of how you're programming your nervous system.
- 23:08So I say, I have a great immune system.
- 23:12My immune system is so healthy.
- 23:14I love my immune system.
- 23:16It is keeping me safe.
- 23:18It is those are what I like to program in.
- 23:23One of the things that you need to do though is become aware of what you're actually thinking
- 23:28So that means you get into the present moment.
- 23:31And you stop projecting into the future, oh, what is my night's sleep gonna be like tonight?
- 23:37And you stop bringing the past in, oh, I slept crappy last night.
- 23:41I'll probably sleep that way again tonight.
- 23:43So present moment, is kinda like a 10 second interval of being fully present like we are
- 23:51right now.
- 23:52And a belly breath usually takes about 10 seconds because I breathe into the count of 4.
- 24:00And out to the count of 6.
- 24:06Now I'm in the present with you.
- 24:08Right.
- 24:09So let's take a breath together and have the audience just take a breath with us.
- 24:13See how they feel really quickly before they take the breath.
- 24:17Just kinda do check-in and then breathe into the count of 4.
- 24:24123 for using the diaphragm and out to the count of 6.
- 24:301, 2, 3.
- 24:32456.
- 24:36Now tell me how you're feeling, please.
- 24:38I could feel my head getting a little bit lighter there.
- 24:41Yeah.
- 24:42And is that that's because I'm I'm there's more oxygen flowing up to my brain, isn't it?
- 24:50Yes.
- 24:50And to the right parts of the brain, instead of feeding the fear that sits in that reptilian
- 24:55brainstem, You're actually getting blood flow to all the parts in the endocrine system
- 25:02hypocampus, the hip the hip thalamus, hypothalamus, and all of those.
- 25:07You almost made up a new word there between the.
- 25:12That would be fine.
- 25:13But let's let's go back to what people are saying.
- 25:15You you know, we are so conscious of what, of course, a psychotherapist and, you know,
- 25:22stress, experts about what we're telling ourselves.
- 25:26In this time, we know what p what are people saying to themselves?
- 25:31I'm so worried.
- 25:32I I I what's gonna happen, who's gonna die?
- 25:36You know, we're not we're not kind of and and some of the That being said, this is real.
- 25:42And then I for anybody listening, my all means my goodness.
- 25:45We look at the numbers.
- 25:46We look at flattening the curve.
- 25:48We look at all the things we've had to do in it.
- 25:49We will get through this, but it's kind of if you let that free flow of thoughts about what
- 25:55could happen or what has happened that puts you into that complete state of fear all the time.
- 26:02All the time.
- 26:03And that complete state of fear will actually interior rate, your nervous system, your
- 26:10internal organs, people that have, current issues like diabetes and things like that.
- 26:17They'll find their insulin fluctuates greater than it ever has before because we are
- 26:23preparing to fight flight or freeze.
- 26:25And right now, we're in a time of self isolation.
- 26:30Which means that we are not doing our normal activities that nourish us.
- 26:34We're not getting our hugs from our friends.
- 26:36We're not being in the presence of the people that we love.
- 26:39We're not.
- 26:40And a lot of us who have not worked for a while, I actually had to go into quarantine
- 26:48March 5th because I was exposed to someone who had the virus.
- 26:53So I had been out of circulation for 30 2 33 days now.
- 26:59Wow.
- 26:59But I practice my 4 self healing skills, and I have a lot of techniques that I do with myself.
- 27:07And I am using this time for personal growth.
- 27:10Mhmm.
- 27:11For expansion of my mind, I'm reading great books.
- 27:16I am listening to people like Bruce Lipton and Greg Braden.
- 27:20I am listening to Carolyn Mace.
- 27:24I do daily breaks for prayer and connection with source on whatever level, people like
- 27:32that.
- 27:32The divine god, whatever.
- 27:35And I just I'm not really sure what other people are feeling because I know that I'm
- 27:42using this time to benefit me.
- 27:46When when the governor comes on and says wear masks and I say, okay.
- 27:52Got my mask.
- 27:53I'll go out with it, but I'm not really going out in fear like you are.
- 27:58And yet, It's all around.
- 28:02It's all around.
- 28:03Everyone is experiencing a certain level of fear.
- 28:07So this is my opportunity to shine my light.
- 28:11Mhmm.
- 28:12Give us some give us some quick tips that people can do.
- 28:16That when they're going out just to ensure, like, I know you talked a little bit about the
- 28:21water, of course.
- 28:23My water.
- 28:23Drink your water.
- 28:25Your belly breath.
- 28:26Balance my chakras.
- 28:28I which is very simple to do.
- 28:30Your chakras actually are the colors of the rainbow, red, orange, yellow, blue ended to go
- 28:36in violet.
- 28:37Okay.
- 28:38Okay.
- 28:38So I just imagine the rainbow just coming up.
- 28:44Red is your base.
- 28:45Orange is your sacral.
- 28:47Yellow is your, solar plexus.
- 28:50Green is your heart, blue is your throat, indigo is your brow, and violet is your crown.
- 28:57So I just imagine that all of those are getting the light and the energy and the flow that they
- 29:03need.
- 29:04Mhmm.
- 29:04Mhmm.
- 29:05And I imagine my arc field getting very large and having some very healthy boundaries
- 29:13energetically so that when I go out, I breathe in the fresh air.
- 29:21And I imagine that I am bringing light to people who need it, and it's not my light.
- 29:27It's it's, present moment light.
- 29:31It's connection to source light.
- 29:33And waving at my friends when I see them in the suit market.
- 29:36I live in a small town, so I always see people I know.
- 29:40And just waving at them, talking with people, talking in positive ways because your brain
- 29:50your brain will actually habituate negative thoughts.
- 29:54You know this.
- 29:55Yes.
- 29:56But it can habituate positive thoughts.
- 29:59And your mind doesn't care if you're thinking a negative thought or a positive thought.
- 30:03So we come into another one of my favorite favorite healing phrases.
- 30:08Change a word, change your life.
- 30:11Mhmm.
- 30:13I hear people say, I'm so worried about, and I ask them, would you please just please change
- 30:20one word and they say what?
- 30:23Say, I'm worried about to, I wonder about.
- 30:30Worried will produce energy flows, hormones, molecules of emotion, electrical, magnetical,
- 30:38dynamic things.
- 30:41And wonder we'll produce the, the same type of substances, but of a higher vibration So you're
- 30:50probably very familiar with this.
- 30:52If you think you can or you think you can't, you're right.
- 30:56Okay?
- 30:57So if you think you can't, electrically, chemically, magnetically, emotionally,
- 31:03harmonally, you produce a state of being of can'tness.
- 31:10So you will produce the hormones, the stress hormones, corticosteroids, all of those things,
- 31:17the molecules of emotion of fear, worry, anxiety, grief, shame, that support that.
- 31:23You will also bring in memories of all of your failures so that that then becomes true for
- 31:29you.
- 31:32If you say I can, electrically, magnetically, chemically, harmonally, endocrine wise
- 31:40production of feel good, like endorphins and cephalins, dopamine, and serotonin.
- 31:47And then memories all come magnetically to support all of your successes, and you remember
- 31:53when you can.
- 31:55Your choice.
- 31:57Your mind doesn't care.
- 31:59It'll think excuse me.
- 32:01It'll think whichever.
- 32:04But which is more healthy.
- 32:06So the awareness piece is, I think, is the gift that we need to give ourselves that much more
- 32:11right now Yes.
- 32:12And which is what I, obviously, you know, I do that often.
- 32:17I know if I'm tired like it would that day that I went out I I was tired that day too.
- 32:22I could tell.
- 32:23So, of course, my, you know, my my unconscious is probably lower, so I'm absorbing a little
- 32:29bit more.
- 32:30So
- 32:30I think it's it's all these little things that you can do.
- 32:33Right?
- 32:33Some basic things.
- 32:34Right?
- 32:35We're talking.
- 32:35And, you know, like you said, to out and look out at your backyard and hear the birds and
- 32:42feel the sunlight because we're getting a little bit better weather, like you are
- 32:45probably in Colorado too.
- 32:47Those types of things are are those are the basic, basic things that doesn't take a lot,
- 32:52but it's like, I can or I can't.
- 32:55And, you know, the brain, like you said, the brain plays along whichever way you say, which
- 32:59way you gotta play this?
- 33:00Yeah.
- 33:00How do you wanna do this?
- 33:02I'm happy to do whichever you'd like.
- 33:05Right.
- 33:05Right.
- 33:05Here, you can get really, really down, and you can't do anything.
- 33:09Here, you can get really, really happy, joyful, whatever, which is that inspiration card deck
- 33:15that I love to do, because it's mine.
- 33:19It's just got a print on one side that says creative inspirations in a real pretty design,
- 33:24and then I have put different words, and I draw a word of the day.
- 33:28Another thing that people can do that are just very simple exercises Roxanne, but they are so
- 33:34helpful is every day I write down a word that has a high vibration, like joy or bliss or
- 33:44gratitude.
- 33:46And in at Christmas time, you get those little gift bags.
- 33:49Right?
- 33:50Yes.
- 33:50So I write a word of the day, and I put it in that little gift bag for a year, so I have 365
- 33:58of them in my gift bag.
- 34:00The next year, guess what I do?
- 34:03I draw out a word of the day.
- 34:06And look at it.
- 34:08And look at it and reflect on it.
- 34:11Okay.
- 34:12So when I go outside, I know that there's gonna be a tidal wave of fear because that the
- 34:18environment that's being created right now by well meaning people, well meaning people, and
- 34:27keeping us safe.
- 34:28With the intention of keeping us safe, but they are using fear, and you can't be in fear and
- 34:33safe at the same time.
- 34:35You can't be in fear and love at the same time.
- 34:38So my choice is to be in love.
- 34:42Joy.
- 34:43Bliss.
- 34:43But I know when I step out, It's gonna come crashing down like a tidal wave.
- 34:49So I prepare myself.
- 34:52I have little things.
- 34:53I have little gratitude rocks in my car.
- 34:56I have little, little things like a little angel.
- 35:00Mhmm.
- 35:01And I remind myself.
- 35:03Hey.
- 35:04And I keep this by my desk so that when I start into, I can't, I can't, I can't, I can't, I
- 35:11pick it up, and I go, Oh, I can.
- 35:13I can.
- 35:13I can.
- 35:14I can.
- 35:15To remind yourself, so these constant reminders are saying to the brain, even though I might be
- 35:22feeling this at one second, I can think of different thoughts.
- 35:26And, you know, with unconscious thoughts, you we know we have so many unconscious thoughts.
- 35:31So much of what we do is unconscious.
- 35:33It's that awareness and, you know, that you you you alluded to at the beginning of what being
- 35:37grateful.
- 35:38Like, you know, little things that I do is I have a book next to my bed and I write 5
- 35:43things, at least five things down that I'm grateful for, at night before I go to bed.
- 35:47And the first thing when I get up in the morning, I do the same.
- 35:50Yes.
- 35:51Right?
- 35:51So all these little things become I always call it.
- 35:54It's it's almost like the emotional, endurance that you develop within the brain, and you're
- 35:59saying to your brain, just in case you're not sure, I'm gonna remind you That's it's okay.
- 36:04It's gonna be fine.
- 36:05We will get through this.
- 36:07But, unfortunately, to your point, that the energetic energy of the world is more based on
- 36:13fear right now, and we really have to to, you know, replace that as much as we can with with
- 36:19all the great emotions, love, joy, gratitude, to gratefulness, all those things, you know,
- 36:24other things that keep us, you know, like you said, energetic and inflow so that all the
- 36:29messages in your body keeps saying, oh, this is good.
- 36:32I'm fine.
- 36:32Everything's gonna work out.
- 36:34We will get through this.
- 36:35We've been through massive things before.
- 36:36We will get through this again.
- 36:39But we do it's like a tidal wave.
- 36:40Right?
- 36:41Every time you get up, you're gonna get knocked down, but you have to say, okay.
- 36:44What do I need to bring today?
- 36:45To make sure I could surf this wave instead of getting knocked over.
- 36:49Right.
- 36:50And I do little things like I know that happiness is one of the great laughter,
- 36:57happiness, joy is the greatest medicine that there is.
- 37:01So sometimes I will have people like take a Kleenex and they have to laugh the whole time
- 37:08it drops to the ground.
- 37:12And look, we're laughing.
- 37:15One minute of laughter can boost your immune system for 6 to 8 hours, and some people even
- 37:21said 24.
- 37:23So before I go outside, I'm gonna laugh.
- 37:29What?
- 37:29What?
- 37:29Something funny or pull out something that's make you just giggle on bear bearably.
- 37:35And, again, you're inoculating yourself again, the negativity of the the panic in the world,
- 37:41which is which is which is pervasive.
- 37:43It's there.
- 37:44And we can pretend, you know, and I people say, mom, I'm happy, happy, happy, and I go, It's
- 37:49not that I'm telling you not to feel and just say acknowledge what you feel, but to figure
- 37:52out what you're gonna do to step out of it as much as you can.
- 37:55Or acknowledge what you think.
- 37:57Again.
- 37:59I'm worried.
- 38:00Change a word.
- 38:01I wonder.
- 38:02Right.
- 38:03What could you say instead?
- 38:05What could you say instead and replace it with something that's more positive versus, again,
- 38:11the brain and the body goes through protection, which sometimes can be negative.
- 38:14So then you changed shift the thought to be able to put it into more positives.
- 38:17Okay.
- 38:18I wanna make sure we get it to water, awareness, Belly breathing.
- 38:25What did I miss?
- 38:25What's the
- 38:26Present moment living.
- 38:27Present moment living.
- 38:28So that's using all your senses to bring you back to the present.
- 38:31So whether it's a sight sound, a taste, a touch, a smell.
- 38:35Yeah, anything in that, I always say to people, do something.
- 38:38You have the senses.
- 38:40And then just check-in as much as possible.
- 38:42And I'm I know I do a lot of sensory grounding with individuals, and that's what you mean.
- 38:45Is it, or is there some other way that you would would explain that?
- 38:48That's very grounding.
- 38:50That's very good.
- 38:51Uh-huh.
- 38:51And what and the last one is?
- 38:53And now that I'm gonna be breathing water awareness present moment living, and actually,
- 39:00again, just using all of those tools together to create new health and happiness habits.
- 39:08A lot of people don't realize that the word health comes from a word, an Anglo Saxon word
- 39:14hail, which means wholeness.
- 39:17So bringing in all parts of you, the best of you.
- 39:21So how this comes from the root word that Home.
- 39:24That means madness.
- 39:26Hail.
- 39:26Hale.
- 39:27Doctor Steph, I think you and I could probably talk a whole lot more, and I'm so grateful for
- 39:32the time you've given us now for people that are like, okay.
- 39:36I love what this, you know, lady's saying.
- 39:38They wanna get ahold of you.
- 39:39They wanna maybe do some of your online courses or even coach with you.
- 39:44Where can people get a hold of you and tell them what your website is?
- 39:48Obviously, all this will be in the show notes, but I'd like you to to share it with them
- 39:52anyway.
- 39:53And, actually, thank you for bringing that up.
- 39:56My website is www.making shifts happen.
- 40:02My my older sister teases me all the time and changes my name.
- 40:07And she goes, because you can make a lot of stuff happen.
- 40:11So, making shifts happen.
- 40:15And right now, I have a program that I'm offering to anyone for free.

- 40:58I'm extending the program.
- 41:00That's amazing.
- 41:01Thank you for doing it, for my listeners.
- 41:04I'm sure people you will get people that will sign up, for all those, Not that dads aren't
- 41:09going through it too, but, I'm sure maybe dads can also
- 41:12go on.
- 41:13I tell people anyone who is facing the stress of this confinement right now needs to take
- 41:22this program.

- 41:30education in there, but it's helpful for anyone Roxanne.
- 41:35Awesome.
- 41:35Well, thank you so much for that gift and, the gift of your time today.
- 41:40You have you have, taught.
- 41:44I could see what a great teacher you would you you are and have been, with how simple you've
- 41:49broken broken down some really, really advanced concepts that I know we we learn and use all
- 41:55the time.
- 41:55I think for every new one listening, I'm sure they're minimally, they're gonna walk away with
- 42:01belly breathing.
- 42:01And if you're gonna if you remember one thing from from that our time today, it's just to
- 42:07remember use the, you know, your diaphragm accordingly and try to do that as often as you
- 42:13can, throughout the day because that's when you oxygenate auctioninates your body and you're
- 42:19having all the little messengers in your body talk to themselves that says, I'm okay.
- 42:25Yes.
- 42:25I'm gonna survive this.
- 42:26I'm gonna be alright.
- 42:28And you're you're you're inoculating yourself now for all the times that we'll be able to the
- 42:32the based on the duration, the more that you do this, as we isolate until we kind of flatten
- 42:38our curves, this is the gift that you can give self.
- 42:40So again, thank you so much for your time for anyone listening.
