• 0:00
  [upbeat music] Good evening, everybody.
• 0:17
It's the Full Spectrum Cycling Show here from Everyday Cycle Studio, River West Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Show number 36. 36. 36. That's what I'm saying. Firmly, firmly in that demographic. Middle zone. 35 and older.
• 0:35
Very good. Uh, Sven here, JK- Oh, hey... there, and Tony there. Yeah. Uh, a little bit later in the show we're gonna call Aaron Domeier, Surly Steel Force One East Side of the Mississippi demo driver,
• 0:52
and talk to him about an event we've got coming up here on December 12th, which is a Thursday night. Thursday.
• 0:59
A little fat bike urban ride around Milwaukee, uh, with the Surly demo fleet and Aaron and that manner of such, but we'll get into that a little bit with Aaron a little later. Uh, cripes on ads windy out there today.
• 1:15
[laughs] Oh, yes it is. That's an understatement. Very blustery Pooh Bears. I didn't ride very far today, but I also didn't have to pedal very much. Thank you, wind. [laughs] Yep.
• 1:24
I got downtown on my way into work this morning and you literally couldn't tell which way the wind was blowing because of the buildings- Oh, yeah... but it was always blowing. Oh, yeah.
• 1:34
Yeah, it can whip around those buildings pretty good down there. Oh, lord. Yeah. Yeah. That's how it was over at campus and- Mm-hmm.
• 1:40
There was things rattling on my house and on this building where the shop is that I didn't know could be moved- Right [laughs]... by wind. Us, too. [laughs] Did you go by your, your new crib yet? Check on the house?
• 1:52
I- See if it's still standing? Yeah, I rode by it twice. It's still there, sorta. Yeah, good. It's not going anywhere. No Dorothy action or nothing? It's 100, 111 years old. [laughs] Yeah.
• 2:00
It's not about to go anywhere from a little wind.
• 2:01
[laughs] That's when, when I was in staying in Kansas a few years back, I stay in the, the, the mayor's family's house, which is, like, seven miles outside of town and they don't live in it anymore, but it was, like, the ancestral home and it's, like, 24-inch thick limestone.
• 2:16
And there was a tornado that night, and I was the only one in the house. Yeah. And I'm like, "Well, this thing's been here over, well over 100 years." It'll probably still be. It'll probably still be here tomorrow.
• 2:23
Don't know about the roof. But in the meantime, where's the basement? Right. [laughs] Yeah. Well, it's a very weird place. Uh, I go into it, but, uh, anyway, um- Doesn't have anything to do with bikes...
• 2:33
it didn't blow away. Uh, bikes you say. Bikes. Um- I like bikes... well, one thing I can say about bikes is, uh, if you are out for Small Business Saturday, stop by this here bike shop. Yes. I think we'll do s-...
• 2:47
How about we do 15% off any USA-made product? Oh, I love that idea. Yeah. And then I, I found a really cool flag with a brick-and-mortar look, so it might- Attract people...
• 2:56
push the brick-and-mortar angle of coming and supporting your small businesses tomorrow. That's a great idea. Tomorrow, Saturday. Yeah, after- Small Business Saturday... after Bleak Friday, Small Business Saturday.
• 3:09
Right. [laughs] So while you have 15% off any US-made products Saturday 10:00 to 2:00. Mm, yeah. [laughs] Ish. Three, 2:00. Some, at least 2:00. 10:00 to 2:00. Unless no one's inside, then we'll go have a cheeseburger.
• 3:22
Everybody 826 East Locust Street, 2:00 cheeseburger- Cheeseburgers... clingers. Bangers... bangers. Bangers. [laughs] For sure.
• 3:29
I went over there today briefly and, uh, no, no hamburger deals for me on a Wednesday afternoon, so. Ah. It's Tuesday night. Or, yeah, right. Or Saturday. Or Saturday afternoon. Exactly. Right. [laughs] Yeah, yeah.
• 3:40
I was tempted yesterday, but- Right... [smacks lips] So I had to go to Scardino's again. [laughs] Oh, damn. Oh, damn. I know, it's terrible.
• 3:47
That's just a terrible have s- situation to be in, 'cause boy, that man makes a sammich. So I, I rode with some folks I don't normally ride with on the pie ride on Sunday. All right. Yeah. I like that.
• 3:58
That was pretty interesting. I mean, it was some of the Critical Mass crew, but not as concentrated a bunch of people as th- that was.
• 4:05
Um, Evan from Vulture Space set this thing up, I think, or I don't know how it works, but, um, basically you... It's sort of like a Friendsgiving with pie. Yeah. How many pies did Annie make this year? I didn't...
• 4:18
I don't know. I didn't see her. Um- Really? Oh. But w- we stopped at L- uh, Liz's house first, and there were six, five, six pies and some quiche there.
• 4:28
And, and then we went to, uh, for some reason, we went to the, what's that bar out on State Street? Um- Narrow that down. [laughs] Yeah, like 68th or 70th and State. Uh. It's right on a corner. It's a big place. Yeah.
• 4:44
Leff's. What is the name of that place? Leff's. Yeah. Leff's Lucky Town. That's, we went there. Huh.
• 4:48
And then we went to another dude's house in Washington Heights, and there was a bunch of pie there and some really good chili. Nice.
• 4:55
And it ended right around the corner here at Nathan's house that's actually an old bar, which still has the bar in it. It is the c- Nice. [laughs] Oh, it's the coolest place in the world. Which one is that?
• 5:04
On the corner? It, it's, it used to be called Suds, I guess. It's, like, right across the street from Scardino's. It is. Okay. Yeah. I've always wondered if the bar was still in that place. It's still in there.
• 5:12
And I- It's got a spiral staircase from the second to the third story. Yeah, I don't know. I think that's more apartments up there. Ah. And it, it has just, like, one, one almost bedroom and then the bar.
• 5:21
It's su- Nice [laughs]... super kickass. I thought how c- I, I always wanted to live in an old bar like that. Yeah, that'd be badass.
• 5:28
I'd like to have been there when it was a bar, bought it, lived in it, and then opened it as a bar again 20 years later. That'd be a great idea. Or something like that.
• 5:35
Speaking of bars, it's not really a bar, it's a brewery, but I went to the, uh, the tasting room for, uh, the Minneapolis Brewing Company. Indeed? Indeed. Indeed. Indeed. Have you been in there? Indeed.
• 5:49
Have you been in there? They have done an absolutely spectacular job of that building. I was in there- Yeah, I was on Second Street? Yeah. Yeah. I was in there- No... but my eyes were more in the line for the bathroom.
• 6:00
It- They had the block party a couple weeks ago. [laughs] Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. For sure.
• 6:03
You, you walk into it, and the brewery is up front, and then you walk down this long hallway and it opens into this just incredibly beautiful space.
• 6:10
I guess it's really loud when there's a lot of people, but You know, the, the beer selection was incredible. And, uh, if you have a Bike Benefits sticker, which I proudly displayed, I got a buck off every pint.
• 6:21
And I had a couple of pints and shot the bull with the guy who just moved here and said, "Wow, people from Wisconsin are really friendly." Right. Like, yep. [laughs] Is it... Uh, are they actually brewing there?
• 6:30
Uh, there's a lot of tanks there. I don't know if they're brewing yet- All right... but they're certainly ramping up to. Nice. That's cool. Yeah. More breweries is better. Yeah, as long as they're good breweries.
• 6:38
Uh, I don't know. Maybe we'll... Uh, we're... So on this December 12th ride, uh, maybe we gotta fi- find some place down that way to stop at. Um, maybe there, maybe not. Maybe. I don't know. Yeah. Um, so yeah, pie ride.
• 6:53
That was, that was a good time. Um, and we ended up going by the polo field, the bike polo field- Yep, Washington Park. Yep, yep... on Washington Park. And, uh, yeah, it was a good time.
• 7:02
Some guys always wheelie-ing all the time. [laughs] Like, pretty much non-stop. I, I think I know who that guy is. And yeah, he- I think he, he was... I think he was in here the other day. Was he one of those guys?
• 7:10
Yeah, yeah. Uh, he's- Yeah... uh, the redheaded kid. Yeah. I can't remember his name off the top of my head. Watch this unicycle. I'm sorry. [laughs] I apologize. Yeah, watch his unicycle.
• 7:18
That guy's, you know, I mean, you get to a point where you're just such a machine. Yeah. Okay, how hard can it be to unicycle once you can do a wheelie, huh? S- well, especially at length, you know? But, yeah.
• 7:29
[drum beats] Bing. [drum beats] Yeah, that was a pretty cool sound. [drum beats] Oh, I like that. Dong. I like that. It's like Leonard Kenny's didgeridoo. [bell rings] This is another cool sound. [bell rings] Ah.
• 7:39
Coming up the hill. Oh. Speaking of the 12th. Uh, yeah, we j- obviously went over to Black Husky to, 'cause that's where we're gonna kinda congregate on the evening of the 12th. And, uh,
• 7:52
got a, got a buy one get one deal from them for anybody who's coming on this ride. Buy two for yourself, pay for one, or buy one for a buddy, or, and get yours free. Uh, you know, that type of thing.
• 8:03
Well, buy 10, give 20. And we've got a, uh, a Dogfather growler today. What a, what a wonderful beer. Oh, yes. I recommend at least trying that one over there. He's got a lot of interesting stuff on tap.
• 8:18
It's all in his head too. Tim keeps all the recipes in his brain. Brain. That man's got a big brain. Mm-hmm. Check out the big brain on Tim. Um- Which, which kind of... This is Dog- Dogfather... Father Mo- Mosaic...
• 8:32
Mosaic Pale Ale... Mos- Mosaic Pale Ale. Mosaic Pale Ale. It's almost an IPA. Ah, I got you. It's totally an IPA. [laughs] Mosaic Hop, right?
• 8:39
It's like, well, it's, it might be.1% less than what an IPA would be, but, you know. [laughs] What? Alcohol? Yeah. [laughs] Yeah, I, it's 6.5 or something like that. Yeah, he, his, their, uh, their...
• 8:49
When they're first, uh... After the Spruce beer, they came out with their regular, I can't remember what their first pale ale was, and it was always in parentheses, "It's basically a pale ale or an IPA."
• 9:00
[laughs] Yes, it was, and it was fantastic. Still is, I just can't remember the name of it. Spruce Goose? Not the Spruce. That's a, that's a pretty heavy one. That's not Spruce Goose either- Spruce...
• 9:09
but it's Spruce something. It's Spruce. Tastes like an evergreen tree. [laughs] Yeah, it does. Tastes like you're drinking gin. Some people love it. Spruce Moose. I- Sp- Moose? I don't know. Mooserool?
• 9:18
No, that's a different company. No, that's Canadian, eh. It has to have a dog name to it. It's- Yeah. They all do. Well, you have a computer right there. It doesn't matter. Yeah, it doesn't. It's right across the street.
• 9:26
Yeah, we could just go- Go check it out when you're on the ride on the 12th. I could, but I'd blow away trying to get over there today.
• 9:30
[laughs] Speaking of blowing away, I think if this new Stella Titanium Chumba USA frame sitting on the stand was outside, it'd blow away. Yeah. Boy, is that thing light. It's gonna- It's very nice...
• 9:40
it's gonna blow you away too. Yeah. That's a great looking bike. Yeah, it is. Very sexy. Wow. Yep, gonna try and get that rolling by this weekend, I hope. Nice. What are you gonna run on it?
• 9:51
Probably take the stuff that's on the Sendero off mostly. Ah, there you go. But I think I wanna run a rigid fork on it. I'm not sure I need a suspension fork on this bike, at least not at this time. Yeah, yeah.
• 10:02
It's just, it's a real versatile, you know, cross-country race/bikepacking rig. Nice. I did get additional rack mounts on it so I can put a rack on it and stuff and... I don't know. It's gonna be, it's gonna be nice.
• 10:15
It does look very nice. Be carrying my gear on our trips to the camping zones of the Midwest. Very nice. Very nice.
• 10:27
Still, still on that trip to go up from Milwaukee to Manitowoc, go over on the ferry, down the other side, and back on the other ferry. [laughs] That's a pretty sweet idea. I like the idea.
• 10:37
The idea does sound- Well, I think Matt Underman did that recently in, in his- Yeah, somebody had just done it on a motorcycle, I think, and somebody else... I don't know.
• 10:43
I've been ta- I've talked to a couple people- Hmm... who've done it on bikes too. Dave Zwart did it on a motorcycle, I believe. Oh, there you go... and his daughter. I think that's a fun plan. Um,
• 10:55
well, uh, you guys commiserate and chat amongst yourselves while I call Aaron here. Hmm. Well, what should we talk about, JK? Oh, I don't know. What's your, what's your favorite line in Leonard Kenny? Oh.
• 11:11
[laughs] To be fair. To, to be fair. To be fair. To be fair. Well, there's nothing better than a fart. [laughs] Except kids falling off bikes maybe. Fuck, I could watch kids fall off bikes all day. Yeah.
• 11:23
I don't give a shit about your kids. [laughs] I, I will be dialing now. [laughs] Do you need dialing noises? Beep, boop, boop, beep, beep. That's a Texas size 10-4. That's your Texas size 10-4.
• 11:40
It's my favorite line in the whole [laughs] show. [laughs] That's a Texas size 10-4. [laughs] Which, you know, I'd think like a Texas size 10-4 would actually be like a 28. [laughs] You know? All right.
• 11:55
Through the magic of the interwebs, it's- True... it's calling. Beep, boop, boop, beep, beep, boop, boop, boop. As we wait- Are you dialing through the web interface?... for the magic of the interwebs.
• 12:07
Yeah, the magic of the web interface. Yeah. Please leave your message for 612- Better not have his phone number out there, unless I dial it [laughs] wrong. Oh He just called back, so... Uh, uh, beep boop, beep boop.
• 12:23
Uh, hello, caller. Uh, welcome to the radio program. Hello. Welcome to the radio program. [laughs] Awesome. Hey, what's up? [laughs] I don't know.
• 12:32
Just blasting your, uh, your voicemail phone number all over the, the system here, so I'll have to [laughs] probably cut that out of the show. It's like, "Please leave a message for..." Sweet... 612 blah, blah, blah.
• 12:43
You'll probably get a lot of calls from- Sexy dudes... interested parties or something like that. Yeah. Just random people? That's cool. [laughs] I, I...
• 12:50
It'd be a welcome change from all the, the telemarketers and stuff I've been getting for the past, you know, two years- Hey... or whatever since I graduated college, really.
• 12:57
[laughs] I understand your warranty on your car is come due. Yeah, right? [laughs] Oh, God. [laughs] You could refinance- How'd you buy the car? Whoa... your mortgage. Right on.
• 13:06
So, uh, this, this gentleman on the phone here is Mr. Aaron Domeier from Surly Bikes.
• 13:11
And, uh, we wanted to talk to Aaron a little bit about an event we've got coming up here in Milwaukee, plus, uh, maybe catch up with what's happening out on the road there. And, uh... Yeah, yeah.
• 13:22
So I kinda filled in our listener with the, uh, December 12th date, Thursday night.
• 13:27
Um, we're gonna do a fat bike ride around Milwaukee, and part of the impetus to it was Aaron coming to town and bringing Steel Force One with some demo bikes.
• 13:38
Maybe, uh, hit people a little bit to what's in the truck and what, uh, folks might get a chance to try out. Y- yeah, absolutely.
• 13:46
I'll, um, I'll be rolling into town, I think I'm getting in the night before, so, um, I may be hanging out for the night. And then, uh, on, uh, Thursday we're gonna do a, uh... You know, I, I, I...
• 13:56
No, I'm all ears all day, Greg, so like- [laughs]... I'll just pull up with Steel Force One. [laughs] Uh, I, I should probably be careful what I, what I promise you right now.
• 14:04
But, um- [laughs] Depending on what ha- happens on Wednesday night... I'll be, I'll, I'll be there. Yeah, right, right. There might be some shenanigans that might happen.
• 14:12
Um, but yeah, I'll pull up with the truck on Thursday, so if, if, uh, people can't make the ride, they can come check out stuff. We'll have, um, almost a full run of both Ice Cream Truck and Wednesdays.
• 14:23
Um, um, ranging from extra small through extra large b- between the two lines. Um, both of those are fantastic fat bikes. We've been doing, doing great things with those bikes. They're, they're just a ton of fun to ride.
• 14:34
I've ridden them both now back to back, um, models, so it's, it's, it's kinda cool to A and B those two and see how they both interact a little differently on, on, on the trail and on the, on the snow and ice and whatnot.
• 14:44
But then, um, I think we said, was it 6:00 roll out, roughly? Yeah. Kinda the deal is, um- Is that right?...
• 14:51
I just went across the street to Black Husky and, and made a buy one get one deal with those folks, so, you know, people can swing by the shop- Super...
• 14:58
uh, anytime, you know, 5:00, 5:30, swing by the shop, see what's going on. And, uh, we'll hit them to the deal over there, and kinda congregate over at Black Husky. And, uh, probably roll out- Cool...
• 15:07
about 6:30-ish from Black Husky. And we've got some urban single track. We've got some urban... I don't know if it's really single track on the other side of the river, but it's kind of fast single track maybe. Yeah.
• 15:20
And then we've got, uh... We'll, we'll make, we'll make it single track. Oh, yeah. [laughs] And we've got some, uh- [laughs]... we've got some streets. We got the campus of UWM.
• 15:28
We'll be down on the beach at the lakefront, so people can actually try those fat tires in some sand. Uh- [laughs] Yeah, yeah, yeah... and we'll make, make your job fun of cleaning them up the next day. Yeah.
• 15:38
[laughs] But- It, it comes, it comes with the territory. Yeah. No, I'm, I'm pretty used to it, so. Steel Force One should be able to be set up right next to Black Husky on the side road there. It'd be perfect.
• 15:47
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, maybe- It's usually open... we'll figure that out on, uh, on Thursday, but I think that's a good call- Yeah... 'cause there's a little...
• 15:53
It would be better to actually do demos from that side of the street almost. Yeah. [laughs] 'Cause Locust is kind of a gruesome- Perfect... a gruesome street. Yeah, yeah. [laughs] Um, yeah, so, um- Yeah, I'm into it.
• 16:04
I just actually, I just had a conversation with, uh, our, the, the one and only Chris Zito, um, just yesterday I believe. Um, and he's, he's helping us out.
• 16:11
I'm, I'm sure he's been in contact with y'all, but, um, um, he's, he's on the, on the ball with some of the routing and stuff. He called with some, asking some questions about, you know, is it...
• 16:19
Who doing a single track? But everything you said is perfect for these bikes, you know?
• 16:22
Like, like, that's the, the beauty of these bikes and this climate is that they're so versatile on like, you know, a single track and urban riding, you know, commuting, um, beach riding.
• 16:32
Whatever you wanna throw at it, these bikes are just a ton of fun to ride, so I can't wait to get out there and, and, um, get into some shenanigans with the, with the Milwaukee contingent of, um- [laughs]...
• 16:41
of, uh, Steel lovers, you know? Yeah, for sure. So it's all good. Steel is real, baby. What, uh, approximately how many bikes and what sizes do you think you'll have with you?
• 16:51
So we have, um, like we, we'll have the, the newest Wednesdays. Um, those are the blue ones with the, the, uh, the 12 speed, um, Eagle on it.
• 16:59
Um, I have extra small through large in, in the Wednesdays, and then I have, uh, small through XL in the, in the Ice Cream Trucks. So- Nice... between the two lines I'm spanning all the, all the size ranges we have.
• 17:10
So should be e- um, um, enough to, to fit most people. Um, we have, um, our demo department's, um, you know, they're banging right now, so we're sending bikes out all over the country right now, and this is...
• 17:20
I, I made sure that we had, uh, at least a full size run for this, this event. Good deal. Yeah. So. Sounds good. I think my bike broke down that morning, so. Yeah. [laughs] Tony's fat bike broke down? Yeah. How weird.
• 17:32
So, uh, listener, um, if you wanna reserve one of these bikes, give me a shout at the shop, 414-585-0366, and, um, maybe we can put your name down, 'cause I mean, you can come and check them out before the ride, but once we're on the ride, you know, you wanna make sure- Yeah...
• 17:47
you're on the right size one, I would imagine. Yep. Yep. Your soul belongs to us at that point, yeah. Yeah. Yep. Yep. Yeah. Soul? Yeah. I sold mine to Milhouse. [laughs] Well, um, yeah, thanks for mentioning Zito. He...
• 17:59
We, we scouted out a couple times. We did one ride on, on our cold Monday that happened a couple weeks ago, which was sort of the front half- Uh-huh... of this ride.
• 18:08
And then last Monday we went and scouted out some other stuff that w- [laughs] The... There's a couple Zito impersonators in here tonight.
• 18:17
[laughs] Um, scouted out what, what will be kinda the southern end of the run, so, uh, I think overall we- Excellent... we got a pretty good plan.
• 18:25
And, uh, get, get some- This is, this is like one of the best, this is one of the best parts of my j- about my job, is like letting the local, the local talent take over and just like plugging into that and like seeing what, what...
• 18:35
And I, I know I've heard so many stories and I've been on a bunch of rides in Milwaukee and like it's such a cool town to ride bike in.
• 18:41
And, you know, Zito's took me or taking me around a bunch of nights, just, you know, showing me all the different little, you know, single tracks and like cool history about the city. It, it, it's...
• 18:50
Milwaukee's a cool town, man. I can't wait. It's gonna be fun. Yeah.
• 18:52
I think one of the things about this route is it's pretty much a little bit of everything, and it's, I just think it's cool that in a city like Milwaukee, as big as it is, you can find these little pockets of kind of nature in the middle of it.
• 19:05
Yeah, yeah. And, uh, and yeah. We're... It, it'll be cool. It'll be a good time. Might, might find a bunker. Maybe a bunker. Yeah. Did you see the bunker story yet? [laughs] Sweet. No, I haven't heard the bunker story.
• 19:14
Maybe, maybe we, maybe we should wait for that Wednesday night for over beers and we can, we can share that one. I think they filled it in. Yeah.
• 19:20
They, they, they found a dude who was, been living down right by the Milwaukee River and had carved himself out a 10 foot by 20 foot bunker. Wow. And he lived in the thing for like- Oh, I saw that... seven, seven years.
• 19:30
Seven to 10 years he was down there. Wow. I didn't know it was that long. I think, I think Trusky shared that on, on s- on the social- Yeah, he did. He did. Yeah... on the social media. Yeah. Yeah. I saw that.
• 19:38
That's a Trusky thing. [laughs] It's crazy. Speaking of Trusky, he better be there. Good for that dude. Hey, holy moly. [laughs] Yeah, yeah. That's pretty crazy.
• 19:44
Um, yeah, I think Trusky said he's coming on the ride, I believe. It, it just goes to show you how- Excellent... you can be in the middle of Milwaukee and no one knows about you for 10 years. Right? Yeah.
• 19:53
He was pretty clandestine, that guy. Yeah, right. Right. Yeah. Uh-huh. Absolutely. Props. So, um, I, I listened to, um, th- Chris from, uh, the Psychic Derailers.
• 20:04
I didn't know he had a podcast, but I kinda came across it. And, uh, you've been on his show- Yeah... not once, but twice, I believe. [laughs] Yeah.
• 20:11
He's, he's letting me come on and just kinda ramble and, as I usually do, and just kinda try to make sense as I, as I piece together my thoughts about the bike industry and stuff.
• 20:19
But yeah, Chris is a, Chris is a, a friend of mine. He's a, he's a really solid dude and doing great things down there. And, um, his new shop is set up and it's, it's a really cool model.
• 20:28
Um, he was just kinda like, "I wanna go after this thing." And I'm being... You know, I was like, "Dude, like if that's, if that, if that's what you sa- think is gonna... Like, that's, that's it.
• 20:37
Like, you've got a great idea. Go for it." Like, that's... It, it, it's a cool thing. I, I, I fully support Chris and, and anytime I can get down to Indianapolis I do. And yeah, it's...
• 20:45
He, he gets certainly, he gets what we do, and, uh, he's just a solid, solid human being, so. Yeah. I, I gave him a call today. I, I left a message for him 'cause I thought to...
• 20:54
His model isn't that different from mine really, and I'm, I'm interested in talking to- Yeah. Yeah. Right...
• 21:00
you know, I'm interested in talking to folks like that who are doing kind of the, the small shop, um, you know, model where i- it, it's just, uh, it's mostly steel bikes and it's mostly y- purposeful, useful bikes, and Surly fits right in that obviously.
• 21:14
And, uh- Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm... um, but you know, he's been in the business a long time and I'm kinda, I wanna just kinda pick his brain a little bit. And I wouldn't be surprised if he'll be- Yeah...
• 21:22
on the show at some point in the future. [laughs] He, he'd be a great, a great person to have on the show. He, Chris is a g- is a well-spoken dude.
• 21:30
He, um, you know, he's, he's told me he had a, a, a past in, in radio, so like, like talking with him is, is, is, is, is, is so easy 'cause he knows how to like converse and like draw like topics out of you.
• 21:42
So like, any sort of like nervousness I have, um, like, you know, around him in the, in those podcasts, he just quells that right away and be like, "Let's go.
• 21:49
Let's just bullshit and talk about coffee and bikes and beer and shenanigans, and all that fun stuff," so yeah. Yeah. All right. I like talking about that stuff too. Right? Yeah. Absolutely.
• 21:58
It's the only reason we do this show, isn't it? [laughs] Pretty much. We talk about bikes- And beer... beer. Yeah.
• 22:03
[laughs] Um, I, I gotta, I gotta, I gotta tell you, since the last, um, uh, demo that we h- saw you at down at the, um, Illinois Beach deal, um, you kinda hipped me- Mm-hmm... to some Letterkenny stuff. Who?
• 22:15
And, uh- [laughs] So now I got both Mike and, uh- I did see... Tony to watch a couple episodes too, [laughs] so y- you made, you made three more Letterkenny fans.
• 22:24
So I don't know if you're getting a royalty check coming or what, but. There you go. I don't know where the hell I... I don't know how I didn't know about that. Yeah, right? That shit's just, it's- Right, right...
• 22:30
I was in the shop here yesterday and I started watching one and I burst out laughing like so hard. I'm like, "God, I hope someone doesn't walk in and think I'm like crazy and have to leave."
• 22:39
[laughs] Well, it, uh, it's cool thing about the show to me is you could kinda pick up any one anywhere and it, it, it, it... I mean, there are characters that are recurring, but it, it's- Right...
• 22:47
not so much of a timeline- Yeah... thing where you've gotta watch them in order. Yeah. Build the X-Files mythology, you know? Right. [laughs] Right. Right. Yeah. For real.
• 22:55
I know, I know people like everybody on that show. Like, I grew up in farm country in southern Minnesota, like hockey culture, you know what I mean?
• 23:02
Like just bullshitting, having beers, and like screwing around on the farm, you know? Like that's, I, I never lived on a farm, but like all my friends did, you know? So like everybody I knew had a farm. Wow.
• 23:12
You go out and you help them pick soybeans and, you know, you know, pollinate corn in the, in the summer, in the summertime and the springtime, bale hay in the, in the fall. Like it's- Wow...
• 23:22
you know, it's [laughs] it's right there for me. I, I had a lot of- It, it was like I'm a, I'm gonna go around just like dying with laughter at some of the, some of those lines. [laughs] It's, it's so good.
• 23:29
I had a lot of friends that were farmers growing up in a small town in Wisconsin, but I gotta tell you, none of them had sisters like that. [laughs] No. No, none, none of them did. Yeah. They, that just didn't exist.
• 23:40
Hey, why are you making it awkward there- No... Swirly Tony? [laughs] Ties down, ground. Take a, take a, take a couple logs out there, Swirly Tony. Geez Louise. [laughs] Growing a tail here. So you can back him up 20%.
• 23:51
[laughs] Does a duck, does a duck with a boner drag weeds? So good. [laughs] That's a great line.
• 23:58
Does a duck with a boner- I think it's just one of those deals I gotta watch again because I'm sure I missed stuff that it's, you'll catch on the second time through, for sure.
• 24:04
[laughs] Well, it mo- it moves, it moves so fast. That's the thing. Yeah. Exactly. The, the, the, the, the one-liners just keep coming. It's like you can watch it two or three times and still pick up new stuff. Yeah.
• 24:13
It's all right. Yeah. That was, that was, um, that was a courtesy of, um, uh, Ben Youngbauer, one of our engineers, um, started like, like dropping some of those lines to me. And I'm like, "What the hell did you say?"
• 24:23
[laughs] He's like, "You've never watched Letterkenny?" And I'm like... He's like, "You went to state school in Mankato, right?" I'm like, "Yeah." Like, "You guys played hockey, right?"
• 24:30
I'm like- Well, I didn't, but, uh, we did, you know? Yeah And he's like, "You gotta watch this Letterkenny show, it's fantastic."
• 24:35
And like, I watched one episode and I went, after watching like the, the, the bloopers reel on You- on YouTube, I went and actually like I, I actually signed up for a free month of Hulu- That's what I did [laughs]...
• 24:45
just so I could watch Letterkenny. That's what I did. [laughs] Right? Right? And then, yeah, and then now I'm hooked, 'cause they started re- re- releasing all the new seasons, and I was like, "Well, uh, here we are."
• 24:53
[laughs] So it goes, you know? Yeah, for, for 11 bucks a month or whatever, it's worth it Do your thing this time. [laughs] Something to do when you're camping at night in the Steel Force One. Oh, yeah.
• 25:05
Yeah, I've definitely stolen Wi-Fi from, from, from random places o- across the land in the back of that van- Of course... just watching videos and whatever, just chilling out in the back of the van.
• 25:16
So what, uh, what's going on around the country? After you, uh, come through this area, where are you headed? Well, uh, this is, this is traditionally my slow season, where I kinda plan the next, uh, summer.
• 25:27
So I'm kinda getting into, like, where I wanna be next summer, um, all... I'm, I'm basically into, like, May-ish at this point, or just kinda getting a, a rough idea of, like, regions.
• 25:38
And then, um, um, short-term stuff, um, I've got the,
• 25:42
this trip, um, and then I'll be going to do another thing with Rev in Madison on that following Saturday, and then back home, and then home for a couple weeks, back out to, um, the Funduro, and that's gonna be...
• 25:55
Um, I'm actually really looking forward to that, 'cause it's gonna be, like, with the Huge Ass series, it's gonna be super cool with the, with the Huge Ass fat bike race. Um, that's always super fun.
• 26:04
Um, gonna j- jet down to Chicago for a couple days after that, and then February, um, Steel Force One will be employed up to the border, the Canadian border, that is.
• 26:15
Um, we're gonna be in, up there in support of the Arrowhead 135. Nice. So this is my first year actually going up there and doing support for that. I think we do the second to last checkpoint. Wow. Oh.
• 26:26
  And, um, it's c- I've heard it's super cool.
• 26:28
I've, I've always wanted to do it, but because my summer travels are so busy that, like, um, Paul Ziegler, our event manager, gives me kind of a, a pass on that one, so I get to stay home.
• 26:37
But I'm kind of excited to participate this year and, like, be up there and cheer people on and, you know, take care of the, take care of the, the participants when they come through as much as I can and,
• 26:46
um, that's pretty much February. Um, like I said, I'm j- I'm shooting for a, uh, southeast/deep south tour in March. That's a good time to get down there, 'cause it's kind of cool and it's not super hot.
• 26:59
I hate heat, so heat and me, like, do not, do not jive. I get angry [laughs]. Yeah. So, um, I'm a Northerner through and through, so- Amen. Um- But blows March and April...
• 27:09
that, that's about, that's about my next six months right there, so. So is, uh, is Earl down north of Atlanta down there? Is he, uh, a Surly dealer? Um, he's dabbled a little bit. Um, he's got his own thing going.
• 27:21
You know, we have... Earl, Earl's a super solid dude. He came onto my first... The first time I met Earl was in Atlanta, actually.
• 27:28
I, I, I kinda sorta met him through the Rev crew, and then he moved down to Atlanta as soon as I started with Surly.
• 27:36
So, like, the first time I met the dude, he was helping me set up my demo at Loose Nut Cycles in Atlanta. Oh, okay. And he's like, "I'm Earl, I'm from Madison." I'm Earl, bro.
• 27:43
Like, "I totally know you," like [laughs] right? Yeah. It was the cra- He's like the nicest dude ever. It was, it was so cool.
• 27:49
Like, he was so helpful, like, first dude, like, "Like, let's get some bikes out of the truck."
• 27:52
You know, I was running a little bit late and he, he was the first person to, like, volunteer to help me out, so that was, that was super cool. But I'm definitely gonna, like, I'm,
• 27:59
w- um, Atlanta's one of the stops on that southern tour I was talking about in March, so I'm definitely gonna stop by the shop if nothing else and say hi and give, give him a big hug and say, say what's up, you know?
• 28:07
Yeah, I'd, I'd like to get back down there and ride again. There's some, I mean, North Carolina's got some awesome riding, Tennessee has some awesome riding. It's just nonstop in those mountains out there.
• 28:18
  It's, it's, it's, it's so impressive. Like, it's such a, it's such a, like, unspoken gem of the country.
• 28:22
You know, everyone's talking about the West Coast, this and that, but, like, you know, that chunk of the country is unreal.
• 28:28
Like, just the, the, the, the f- the, the flora and the, and the elevation and the riding and the people and the culture and the, the food and- [laughs]... y- y- I could go on forever. Yeah.
• 28:38
And it's, it's just, it's just really cool. Brown Brewery. Oh, hell yeah. [laughs] Yep. Um, so maybe- It's crazy...
• 28:43
maybe you can shed a little light on this, uh, or may- or maybe get the, a view from, uh, so the West Coast guy is Trevor, right? Yep. And he's- That's correct...
• 28:53
and so do you guys share Steel Force One or does it, is there a West Coast version, too? No, we share it. So, like, that's- Gotcha...
• 29:00
that's a lot of, y- you know, so I was talking about, like, the winter these months, um, surprisingly it takes a lot of, a lot of, uh, a lot of hours to kind of plan out where this van's gonna go for the summertime.
• 29:12
And a lot of it's, like, we get together with the, the, uh, the, um, marketing and sales team.
• 29:16
I mean, I'm a part of the sales team, but, you know, we, we all kind of, like, get a, a round table and, like, just talk about, like, where the big events we wanna get to.
• 29:23
But then, so those big events get priority, and then we fill, then Trevor and I fill in the blanks. And Trevor's also taking on international, um, travel as well, so that's a whole nother world for him.
• 29:34
So, um, um, you know, we're, we're in kind of a transition period of, like, like, how the van gets spread around the country and, you know, he's been super cool with me, um, you know, since I've been kinda going after it, he's been giving me kind of the green light to take the van when I want, but yeah, that thing, that thing gets all over the place.
• 29:51
It's, it's a, it's a worthy steed, I'll say that much, yeah. Yeah, right on.
• 29:56
Um, one thing I'm curious about, and you can maybe fill in the East Coast side of stuff, uh, maybe we'll get Trevor on the show to kind of, uh, talk about the West Coast side of stuff, but, um, I, I don't see, at least when I was out west, I saw very few fat bikes on the beaches, and I don't know what you're seeing on the East Coast.
• 30:14
Yeah. I mean, is it, what's up with that? They got a lot of... We don't even have sand here to ride anymore, and they got sand and I don't see anybody on it. I'm, I'm- Yeah... kind of perplexed, I guess.
• 30:23
Y- you guys, I, I have been working on that nut to crack for years. Like, I don't, I don't understand it. Like, there are, there is so much coastline on the East Coast that it's, it's- Yeah...
• 30:33
like, like, we have better luck in the northeast, or, uh, fat bikes in general have a better luck in, in the northern part of the coast.
• 30:38
But I'm, I'm, like, trying to figure out, like, why, like, fat bikes aren't more popular in, like, the deep south, like on the coastline, because they're, they're perfect for just- You know, like, like, you know, Surly as a brand, we're not a race brand.
• 30:50
We're not, like, into, like, this competitive thing.
• 30:52
We're just more about, like, the culture of riding bikes, like taking a fat bike to the beach with a, you know, a basket, you know, a umbrella, whatever the hell you wanna carry with you.
• 31:02
You know, those bikes are equipped for that kind of thing. So it's, uh... We're working on that. I, I... And again, I, I, I don't have a definitive answer of why they're not more popular on the coast.
• 31:10
It- that's still something... Even our bike sh- a lot of our bike shops on, on the coast are like, "You know, we're working on that," [laughs] you know? I, I just don't get it, so. Yeah, no- I, I don't know.
• 31:19
Maybe it's a percep- maybe it's a perception thing of, like, where bikes fit in the culture of, of Americans, you know? Maybe it's still, um, you know, like, considered a kid's toy in some regions.
• 31:30
I, you know, it's, it's... Who knows? It's, it's, it's, it's, it's up, up for grabs, so. I don't know. I'd, I'd, I'd be a traveling ambassador for fat bikes if I could figure out how to make a living at it, so.
• 31:40
[laughs] Yeah, no kidding. Me too. Right? Right. I mean, we kind, we kinda had it going with, uh, fatbike.com there for a while. I mean, Gomez still manages to make it a, a living thing, but, uh- For sure. For sure...
• 31:50
um, I, I think, you know, just people getting out there, and, uh, it usually takes one or two people in a local area to really kinda push it forward. And, uh, you know, that happened in Milwaukee 10 years ago.
• 32:00
There's tons of fat bikes around here now. Yep. But I remember when we started out- Yep... that I knew everybody that had a fat bike at one point. And then suddenly- Yep...
• 32:08
a couple years later, I didn't know 10% of the people who were on fat bikes, so. [laughs] When they, when we, when I got my first, well, my Northpaw, I can't tell you how many times I got stopped by cars,
• 32:19
and would just be like, "What in the hell is that?" I'm like, "It's a bike." Yeah. I, I know what that is. [laughs] What the hell is that thing? What the hell is that? Like it is. Yep.
• 32:30
I love, I love the question, "Yo, man, how much them wheels cost?" Oh, all the time. I'm like, "20 bucks. 20 bucks, dude. 20 bucks." [laughs] Yep, yep. Well, they said- Yeah. You know, and, and it... Go ahead, sorry.
• 32:40
Sorry. I was gonna say, "Well, they fit on my bike," is a, is a big one. Mm-hmm. You know, it's like, "Well, not really." Yeah, yeah. But, uh- No... we can help you with that, you know? The answer's always no.
• 32:49
[laughs] Even when they try s- You know, you hit the nail on the head there. Like, like, having people talk about the bikes is, like, so crucial, like, for this type of thing. Like, it like...
• 33:02
There's so much marketing out there about, like, the lightest bike is the best bike for the job, you know? And, and that's not always accurate.
• 33:08
It, it, it's, it's more about what's the best ride quality that that customer's looking for, and fat bikes are incredibly versatile ve- uh, vehicles. You know, like, you know, we, you and I get it, we get it.
• 33:19
You know, like, it's... But having that, that local champion speak that, the story to people, um, you know, that, that, that, that goes a long way with, with customers for sure. But, but aren't they hard to ride?
• 33:30
And, and building a scene too. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. Aren't they hard to ride? Aren't they hard to ride? I get that all the time. No. They're just like riding a bike, man.
• 33:38
Come, come experience for yourself- Yeah, ride one... at the Surly demo December 12th here at the- Yeah... Everyday Cycle shop and find out for yourself. Well, there you go. Yeah. For crying out loud. That's perfect.
• 33:47
Yeah. Yeah. Um- We, we almost blew through that problem. Yeah. For sure. Yeah. There, I, I don't know. I, I briefly rode a mountain bike this summer that's a 27+.
• 33:58
And I was like, "I'd kinda rather be riding my, [laughs] my four-inch fat bike instead of my, my mountain bike for some reason." I'm like, I, maybe I'm more comfortable on it now. But I find- Yeah...
• 34:08
that I don't have to- Yeah... you know, if I'm mountain biking, I don't have to pay as close attention as I used to.
• 34:13
I'm not going as fast as I used to, and I kinda like having something that just sort of helps- Can do anything... uh, helps me on my goal not to fall off my bike on that trail.
• 34:24
[laughs] I mean, it's these little things- Seriously... you know. Yeah, absolutely. And, and you know, Greg, it's funny.
• 34:30
Like, like, as I'm, you know, I'm s- so, like, 36, so, so I'm, I'm getting up there, but, you know, whatever. But, um, I used to do a lot of- Oh, yeah. Hey, by the way, this is show number 36 too. Ooh, yeah.
• 34:39
So there you go. Serendipity. Hey, look at that. Holy moly. Serendipity. No, go ahead. [laughs] Like, like serendipity. You know, I'm, I'm, you know, I'm not as fast as I used to be, but honestly I don't even care.
• 34:48
Like, 'cause for me it's more about, like, spending time in the, spending time with friends outside in the woods, you know, or, or just in the outdoors. And, uh, you know, like, I don't know.
• 34:57
Like, I don't think that a, uh... I mean, there, there's... I'm biased because I, I work for a brand that has bikes across the entire spectrum and, and every bike has its, like, use.
• 35:06
But, um, you know, it's, it's, it's finding what, finding what works for you and learning what you wanna do. That's, that's the biggest thing.
• 35:13
And, and we have these, you know, these mid-fats, these fat bikes that, that are in- incredibly versatile bikes.
• 35:18
You know, I know people that ride a three-disc charter in the winter, you know, and that's their prerogative and it's, and it works, and they love it, you know?
• 35:24
So it's, it's all finding that, that, that tire size, that flotation, that, uh, drivetrain that works for you, works for your, for your situations. Yeah.
• 35:32
Well, it's- It's fun to pursue that and find, and find a, a tool that works for your job, you know? It's, it's, it's, it's really intriguing. It's, it's exciting to do that, you know?
• 35:39
That's one of the things that's so cool about Surly is th- e- each bike you can set up so many different ways that it really can suit your exact needs, you know? Absolutely. Absolutely. It like...
• 35:52
I, I was just talking, talking with my, my wife tonight about, you know, how much money I spend on bike parts per year.
• 35:56
And, and a lot of it's just changing over the frames I have and just trying different wheel sizes, trying different tire sizes, drivetrain combinations, you know, for the seasons and, and what, and whatnot.
• 36:06
It's, it's, it's exciting that I have, like, like, a, a set group of bike frames that do that much for me. It's, it's, it's awesome. Very cool. Uh, well, I appreciate you being on the show.
• 36:17
Do you got anything you wanna leave our listener with before we, uh, continue on our way to the end of the show? Get your feets out to the demo. Come out, hang out, even if it's just for a beer or two. Come for the ride.
• 36:30
It's gonna be fun. Um, every, honestly every ride I've done with every shop has been fun, whether it's been six people or 35, 55 people on a ride. It's, it's, it's super fun.
• 36:41
And, and I know this, like, coming from, you know, the years I've, I spent doing my, my job, that when you have a combination of a shop like Everyday and, and, you know, a b- I'm out.
• 36:52
I'm gonna brag, okay, Gaspin, like Surly, that when they, when those two get together- [laughs]... it's, it's gonna be a pretty... [laughs] It's gonna be, it's gonna be interesting.
• 36:59
You know, it's gonna be worth the, worth the time to come hang out and just, you know, see, see what we have. So we're... that's it, yeah. Right on, man. Come, come out to the, come out to the event on, on the 12th.
• 37:06
Yeah, for sure. Cool. Well, we'll be updating, both, uh, Aaron and I, along the way on the, uh, on the Facebook page, which we'll have a link to in the show notes for the event.
• 37:15
And, uh, th- thanks very much for being on the program, man. I look forward to seeing you in two weeks-ish. Well, hell yeah. Th- than- thanks for, uh, thanks for having me. I appreciate it. Right on. Thanks, man.
• 37:24
All right. Talk to you soon. Enjoy your evening, and Thanksgiving. Thanks. Which was yesterday. [laughs] Yeah, how was Thanksgiving yesterday? All right, take it easy. [laughs] And gobble, gobble. Gobble, gobble.
• 37:34
All right, take it easy. Well, there you go. All right, folks, Aaron Domeier from Surly there. Right on. And you know, the, the other thing is, is you can... This is gonna be about how many miles? 10, 12 miles?
• 37:48
Uh, yeah, i- if. If. Seven- And- Seven to 10. You can ride a fat bike for a couple hour, a cou- a really nice fat bike for a couple hours just to have fun. Yeah, that sucks.
• 37:58
I would- I'm gonna leave my bike at home, man... I wouldn't do that. Matter of fact, everybody should stay home that day. Yeah, I'm leaving my bike at home.
• 38:03
I'm gonna ride one of these nice new beasts, especially with an Eagle drivetrain on it. I can't wait. Well, if they don't, if they don't, uh...
• 38:10
I would take a Wednesday out if they don't get rid of all of them, but they probably will, 'cause a Medium Wednesday is gonna be pretty much- Hotcakes... hotcakes. But, uh- Hotcakes...
• 38:19
anyway, so yeah, December 12th, if I haven't said it often enough already. What day is it again? Thursday. December 12th. Is that December 12th? I think so. It is. I might have to get it Wednesday. No, it's Thursday.
• 38:30
Yeah, you might have to get a We- You can only ride them on Wednesdays... a Wednesday on a Thursday. You might have to get a Wednesday, 'cause where the hell's your fat bike?
• 38:36
[laughs] You can only ride a Wednesday on days that end in Y. So, so it's in, it's, it's in soon land. I do- Yeah, it's in soon land. Did I tell you the latest in soon land? Oh, shit no.
• 38:44
[laughs] Well, so the guy, the painter who is Chip Foose's guy, paints Chip Foose's hot rods, if anybody... Everybody should know who Chip Foose is. Check his hot rods out online. They're kickass.
• 38:54
Uh, his doctor told him he shouldn't be [laughs] around the solvents in the paint for a while. [laughs] So I'm kidding. It's... I mean, I'm not kidding, but- [laughs]...
• 39:07
um, it, it will be- And he's a painter for a living? Um, I don't think that's all he does. Oh. I'm not sure, but he probably should wear a mask would be- Yeah, I was gonna say- [laughs] on case... well-ventilated area.
• 39:18
Yeah, yeah... at his basement. So remember that Soon train? It's now, it's like Soon. Yeah, I know. Yeah. With tacking on a couple O's. Very soon-ish. I was gonna say, yeah.
• 39:26
[laughs] Well, I've got a, I got a bike for you to borrow, or Surly has a bike for you to borrow. That's what I figured, yeah. Even better. There's bikes. Um, but yeah, I feel bad, but not that bad really.
• 39:35
[laughs] Look to the turtle. Patience is a virtue. Patience of the turtle. I tell you. Uh, what else we got going on here? We got, uh, what... So we got this event. Well, there's one on the 12th I heard. Is there?
• 39:47
December 12th, I heard about that here. It's a Thursday, right? Here at Everyday Cycles. Um, but before then we've got Global Fat Bike Day all over the world. December 7th. And also Santa rampaging- Yeah...
• 39:57
in many, many spots around at least- That's next weekend, which is- December 7th... the United States of America. That's what's blowing my mind. Ugh. Yeah, that's next weekend already.
• 40:05
That's next weekend, and it's like, wha- wait, wait, what? Yeah. So I haven't decided- And I just, and I-... even yet what I'm doing on December 7th... and I just put my damn- Well, now that I-...
• 40:13
Santa crap in the basement. No, it's from last year. I had- From last year? Yeah, yeah. It was, it was in- You see-... this, in this, uh, in this den- My, mine was in the basement-... closeted room...
• 40:23
but I busted it out for Halloween because we had snow. Oh. I think I know where mine is. Yeah. Yeah. I just- Mine's just tucked away in the corner of the room...
• 40:32
I think I'll be rampaging just because I need to stay close to home because of the boy. The boy.
• 40:37
Well, here's something that might interest folks who can't figure out what to do on Global Fat Bike Day/Santa Rampage is- Right... that there is also a Santa Rampage on the 14th in Decorah, Iowa. Oh.
• 40:48
I believe 'cause most of Decorah's gonna be in Rochester doing the one on the 7th, they're gonna do one of their own in Decorah on the 14th. So that might be a no-brainer to head over to Decorah.
• 40:58
I heard that they have a brewery there that might be- Oh... freaking delicious. Toppling Glass, baby. Toppling Glass. Toppling, Toppling Goliath. Ah, Toppling Gla- Pseudo Sue... that's the, uh...
• 41:07
I do believe that is the beer, uh, resident beer right now over at Draft and Vessel, Toppling Goliath. Huh. Which- Take over one... oh, really? Yeah. Or at least, like, a good five pack of them.
• 41:19
Well, I suggest you find out for sure and report back. Is that today, yesterday, Wed- last Wednesday? Uh, no, it's like- Was that last Wednesday? [laughs]... yeah, this week, yes. Okay. Huh.
• 41:28
I don't go there very often, but it's- Me neither, but whoa... right down the street. No, I just saw it on the social media platforms. Well, that's a good call, 'cause they make some tasty beverages. Mm-hmm.
• 41:37
Um, so you got that going. Um, Atwood Fat Bike Series, I just mentioned that last show down in Rockford, has got a couple, three more events to do, one of them being December 7th. Isn't that Global Fat Bike Day?
• 41:49
[laughs] That's a crazy day. How... It, it's probably the busiest bike event day of the year for stuff that I'm aware of. And it's next damn weekend. That's... Yeah, exactly. [laughs] It's like, "Get my header on."
• 41:58
We're, we're freaking four weeks from Christmas, man. Ah, it is. Huh. Um- Tim put a damn wreath- You know what would be a good-... on the door already, and it wasn't...
• 42:07
Well, now it is after Thanksgiving, but not while this voice is echoing through your ears. Oh, that's terrible. You know, uh,
• 42:16
gift-giving season is coming up, so if you wanna do something at your local shop, you know- That's-... come in on, uh s- Saturday... Saturday. Saturday, Saturday, Saturday... tomorrow day.
• 42:24
15% off all American-made products. American-made stuff. America.
• 42:27
Otherwise, uh, if you're gonna buy something or wanna get a gift for a cyclist in your family and you can't figure out what the heck they want, get them a gift certificate. Yeah. I think it's a perfect time.
• 42:37
Or get them a Chumba. We've got a lot of stuff in here that's so kickass, but some folks might not buy it for themselves. They're waiting for their friend or their family or their significant other to get it for them.
• 42:46
Yeah. Some sturdy bags would look really nice under- Oh... anyone's tree. All this stuff. And it's tactile. You can touch it- Or perhaps a Selly in Antique... and feel it and know it. Know it. Did you see the new R2?
• 42:56
I did s- I touched the new R2. I almost licked it, but I was afraid. Yeah, the, we got a couple other new- E-P-D-M or what, E-D-P, whatever the rubber stuff is Rubber...
• 43:06
it's a rubber Selle Anatomica saddle, which is, I mean, what better thing for a beach, snow/outside bike than a rubber saddle? Just don't ride it naked. I think that would chafe. I don't know.
• 43:17
Latex kinda st- you know, I'm not sure. Maybe. Oh, oh. Oh. Oh. JK's gonna go fondle it. JK's checking it out. [laughs] Uh, what else we got on the old, uh...
• 43:27
Oh, this is, uh, did you, did you mention this one last time, the Fatathlon? I did. Oh, yeah, yeah. And, and cornhole toss? And the cornhole toss. I, yeah, I mean, that just makes a lot of sense.
• 43:37
That's- That's a great [laughs] idea. That's actually not 'til January. Pretty nice, huh, JK? It's on the 4th of January. Yeah. Um, St. Germain's sorta central Wisconsin, isn't it, somewhere? Yep, yep.
• 43:45
It's, uh, Vilas County. Oh, it's north-central Wisconsin It's, it's, yeah, it's up there a little bit. That sounds like something to do during- About four hours from here, four and a half That's where I don't have
• 43:53
s- service. [laughs] In St. Germain? It's not Ger- Ah... it's not Germaine to the situation? No, Vilas, not a T-Mobile location. Oh, it's not very good for AT&T up there, either. AT&T is, like, the one that works-
• 44:07
There's still-... the most capably... do you ever, you saw the, did we talk about The Coca-Cola Kid last time, too? I don't know. Hmm?
• 44:12
I was just talking to somebody about The Coca-Cola Kid with Eric Roberts in the starring role. Um, so he- My thumbs. [laughs] Charlie, they took my thumbs.
• 44:20
[laughs] So, so, so the premise of the show is that there's this one little spot in Australia where there's a local cola company that Coca-Cola can't penetrate that market, and it's Eric Roberts' job to go to the only spot in the whole world where they don't really sell any Coca-Cola.
• 44:37
Ah. But what, I think what happens in Wisconsin is there was a cellular company at some point in the past that somehow got this little foothold in northern Wisconsin- And they're just hanging onto it?
• 44:47
And, uh, and, and, and if you don't have their service, you don't really get service up there. [laughs] Well, yeah. Well, not, not decent service, anyway. Right, right. But, uh, yeah. There you go. See, it makes sense.
• 44:56
That was kind of a long train around the- It's called a monopoly... track there, but [laughs] yeah, I don't know.
• 45:00
I'm not exactly sure how it works, but it, it, I, I know what doesn't work is my phone up there all that well. Yeah. Oh, eh. Anyway. I mean, I did have AT&T at the time when I was up there, and I,
• 45:12
it w- worked pretty capably. All right. Well, I'm saying- But- Yeah, yeah... anything else, no. St. Germain, 4th of January, it seems like a fun event. Cornhole deal. It's a nine-mile fat bike ride and cornhole toss
• 45:25
at Shannon Lake in St. Germain. Yeah. Yeah, it just seems like a good thing. It sounds like a lot of fun. If I don't have to go to Vegas, 'cause that would be my fly day if I go. Oh, yeah. Which I'm not really, um...
• 45:36
Vegas. Mah, meh, meh, meh, meh. Lost wages. Um, hope you had a happy Turkey Day, folks. Yeah. Um- Turkey, turkey, turkey. Yeah. Anything- What's your favorite part about the Turkey Day, food-wise?
• 45:45
I don't care about the family or any of that shit. Right. Food. I, I don't know. I'm, I'm thinking just dark turkey meat. Eh. Although I asked for a ham this year. [laughs] Yeah, I know.
• 45:54
What do you think mine is, knowing me? Uh, ghost pepper cranberry sauce. Yeah, mashed potatoes and gravy. [laughs] I love mashed potatoes. I, I will eat those on Turkey Day, too- Oh...
• 46:06
even though I would not normally eat mashed potatoes and gravy anymore. Oh, with garlic? Oh my God. And horseradish gravy. I'm a big old thing of stuffing. I'm a stuffing- Stuffing. I'm that-...
• 46:14
stuffing, dressing, wet bread. Stuffing. Give me hot, wet bread. Yes. Throw in oysters and sausage and everything. It's just anything. I could just eat- Anything... mashed potatoes and gravy. Anything.
• 46:25
You just did eat mashed potatoes and gravy yesterday. Yeah, I did. It was delicious. [laughs] And all you have to do is just keep adding to it. I'm gonna have it, I'm gonna have it waiting tonight when I get home, too.
• 46:32
Yeah. [laughs] Right on. Yeah. Guess what else you put in, in, into even leftover dressing? More- Turkey... more dressing? More dressing. [laughs] And- And gravy... and potatoes, little pieces of potato, everything.
• 46:45
And gravy. Yes. It's the best. And, uh- It's wet bread. It's like a constant- We should get, we should get Mike's recipe for this, 'cause this is tasty stuff.
• 46:51
Yeah, it does sound pretty delicious, and I had a great meal tonight already. Yeah. You know? All right, everyone. Happy Thanksgiving yesterday. I guess we can, uh, do this thing. We'll see y'all later. See you tomorrow.
• 47:02
Come again when you can't stay so long. Bye. [upbeat rock music]
