Transcript
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Welcome to Homestead and Hill.
- 0:04SPEAKER_00: I'm Scott.
- 0:05SPEAKER_03: And I'm Lindsay, and we live with our three children on a farm in Vermont.
- 0:10SPEAKER_03: Our lives revolve around growing food and medicine, working with the body, and trying every day to live in deeper relationship with the earth.
- 0:18SPEAKER_03: And now we're welcoming guests to our farm for intimate retreats where they can slow down and feel deeply into this earth-body connection.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: This podcast is about remembering something many of us have forgotten: that we're not separate from the natural world.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Our bodies are part of it.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: Our healing comes through it.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: And when we reconnect to both, our purpose often begins to reveal itself.
- 0:40SPEAKER_03: Through conversations with herbalists, farmers, body workers, and people walking unconventional paths, we explore what it looks like to step outside the modern paradigm and build lives rooted in connection, healing, and reciprocity with the earth.
- 0:54SPEAKER_03: Okay, welcome to Homestead and Heal.
- 0:58SPEAKER_03: Today I'm so excited that we are joined by our friend Emily King.
- 1:03SPEAKER_03: I've known Emily for a handful of years now.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: We met at Adelaide's pelvic health retreat.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: And then you did some work with me for a little while.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: You're such an amazing writer, and you were helping me with some of my email newsletters.
- 1:21SPEAKER_03: And now I'm happy to call you our family astrologer because you're the only astrologer that I plan to ever work with for the rest of my life.
- 1:31SPEAKER_03: And I never thought I'd have an astrologer, but I feel like it's been really awesome to have you do both kind of my own personal readings of my birth chart and at different times when there's a lot kind of going on in my life, or eclipses, things like that.
- 1:48SPEAKER_03: But also you did the mother-child reading for me.
- 1:52SPEAKER_03: And then I asked you to bring Scott in and just do this whole family constellation reading.
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: And it has been so cool to have that.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: And I know we'll revisit it over the years as we see our kids getting older and changing.
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: But just seeing the dynamics between each family member and like how their astrology, how it plays with each other is so cool.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: So anyway, I'm so excited that we get to be here talking with you, Emily.
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: And will you give a little introduction to our name is Emily?
- 2:27SPEAKER_02: I am living in Massachusetts.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I'm an intuitive astrologer, and I've really claimed that woven that into my life the past few years more fully, just like as a lens that I look through the world.
- 2:45SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I was reflecting on like when we met years ago, and I was like, wow, so much has changed in the past five years or so, and just like where everyone's at.
- 2:56SPEAKER_02: And I feel like most people have been drawn more to in-person community and work.
- 3:06SPEAKER_02: And so figuring out how my astrology practice kind of ties into that.
- 3:11SPEAKER_02: And yeah, my husband and I recently got the chance to come do a little homestead and heal weekend, and it was so amazing and exactly what we needed, and I feel like exactly what the world needs at this time, just more in-person connection, bringing us back into our bodies, bringing us back into communion with the land.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: So yeah, I recently moved home to my hometown pretty much where I was born and raised for the first 18 years of life.
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: And my husband and I moved back here last year.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: So it's been a really big adjustment for him for the first time living on the East Coast.
- 3:52SPEAKER_02: And for me, never thought that I would live at home again.
- 3:57SPEAKER_02: It just wasn't really something I ever thought would be for me.
- 4:02SPEAKER_02: And then I feel like once I turned 30, once we got married, I was like, oh, where else would we go?
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: We need to go home.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: I need to be, we need to be by family.
- 4:12SPEAKER_02: And it just started clicking.
- 4:15SPEAKER_02: And it's been a it's been a really cool homecoming in many different ways.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 4:21SPEAKER_03: I have a couple of things I want to touch on.
- 4:23SPEAKER_03: One is just that when you and Cam came to stay, it was so fun because you brought the ocean with you and like all those fresh oysters and the trout row.
- 4:33SPEAKER_03: And it was just really fun for my kids to try those foods.
- 4:38SPEAKER_03: And before we started recording, we were talking about how we just received your thank you note and this beautiful painting from Cam of the house, which was just so sweet.
- 4:47SPEAKER_03: But I really appreciated in your thank you note, you said since getting home, you felt more connected to your land.
- 4:53SPEAKER_03: And I do actually want to ask you about that because I'm curious what that feels like for you.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so we live in this beautiful neighborhood.
- 5:02SPEAKER_02: It's a very marshy area.
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: The town is called Marshfield.
- 5:06SPEAKER_02: And the neighborhood itself, this is also our first time living in a house together.
- 5:12SPEAKER_02: So we lived in apartments when we first met, two different apartments.
- 5:15SPEAKER_02: And so we have a house and we have a yard and we have a neighborhood.
- 5:19SPEAKER_02: And we love walking around the neighborhood.
- 5:21SPEAKER_02: It's very wooded and marshy.
- 5:24SPEAKER_02: There's a river that runs through the back.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: And when we got home on Sunday, I think it was Sunday evening or maybe Monday evening, we were taking our evening walk around the neighborhood, and we were like in this zone of just walking really slow and looking at all the plants and looking at the flowers and almost acting like we knew what we were looking at, which some of the things we did, we recognized, but we were like, wow, we spent one weekend at Homestead and Heel, and now we come back and we're like plant identifiers.
- 5:56SPEAKER_02: But it really did.
- 5:57SPEAKER_02: It felt like we had new eyes looking around and more interest in just what's in our own neighborhood and how is it different?
- 6:05SPEAKER_02: And using our phone to look up certain plants and flowers and mushrooms.
- 6:10SPEAKER_02: So we definitely felt that curiosity come online, which I feel like too we've had since moving here because it's just such a different climate than where we were when we met, which was the desert.
- 6:22SPEAKER_02: And so it sparked this from observation and just living to more curiosity of actually figuring out who is around us in terms of the plants and the animals and the insects and the mushrooms that have been popping up too in just in the past few weeks.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: I love hearing that.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: That makes me so happy.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: We had so much fun with you guys.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: I've only met you a couple times.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: We did some astrology work together.
- 6:49SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Which was really fun.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: And I appreciate your take is just always you have so much wisdom, and I've really enjoyed getting to know you and meeting Cam.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: It's just like just like a real kindred spirit.
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: I really love you guys, and so it's so nice having you up here.
- 7:04SPEAKER_00: And to hear that you're going home with that inspiration just is like what we are trying to achieve.
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: So if it lands for somebody, then that's like a pat on my back that feels great.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: So that's exciting.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: One thing we always like to ask people, and you led into this already, but we're just curious about the particular place you live, things that are like popping right now or that you're excited about, like in your yard or yeah, in the neighborhood.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I feel like I'm seeing this land with whole with a whole new perspective and new eyes.
- 7:39SPEAKER_02: Cause like I said, I grew up here, but I don't remember really having major experiences or connections with the seasons or the land like I do now.
- 7:52SPEAKER_02: And I think for both of us, especially getting that contrast of living in the desert for a few years, now coming back into seasons, it's so vibrant and such a contrast that we are just in awe of really the cycles of wow, remember when these trees were completely bare and now our whole back lining is covered with trees, so you can't see the neighbor's yard at all or covered with growth.
- 8:18SPEAKER_02: And we live about 10 minutes from the ocean, so that's a huge part of smelling the ocean air and getting that cool breeze at night.
- 8:31SPEAKER_02: And our yard, too, is very wild, it's not full grass.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: There's lots of patches of I think clover and different weeds and different mushrooms too.
- 8:46SPEAKER_02: Like I said, in the past few weeks, the mushrooms have been popping up all different colors, all different types.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: So we've really been like investigating those.
- 8:54SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I feel like August here is just full, probably a lot of places, just full peak abundance, just so lush and so humid here too.
- 9:06SPEAKER_02: It's very different again from the desert.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: But this fleeting nature of the seasons, we're just holding on to every single month and every single phase because we know that it's going to pass.
- 9:19SPEAKER_02: So I'm really loving the wet, humid, marshy.
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: I feel like that's why the mushrooms are popping up right now.
- 9:25SPEAKER_02: Just the humidity is at an all-time high, and I'm enjoying it.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's great.
- 9:30SPEAKER_03: That's amazing.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_03: I as I hear you talk about it and hear you talking about your childhood and not feeling necessarily that same awareness as you have now as an adult.
- 9:43SPEAKER_03: I can totally resonate with that, mostly from when I moved to Seattle.
- 9:47SPEAKER_03: And I just I am like, oh, I wish I'd really delved into the outdoor, I don't know, just everything outdoors in the Seattle area because so beautiful.
- 9:58SPEAKER_03: And I did to some extent, but I am just curious now, just thinking about you as a child, and I know you've shared some of that with me at least or with us, that you were really into music and acting and those sorts of things.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: But I'm curious, yeah.
- 10:14SPEAKER_03: What can you see about your now path as an intuitive astrologer?
- 10:18SPEAKER_03: What little tidbits can you see that led you onto your path and or connection?
- 10:23SPEAKER_03: What sort of earth connection?
- 10:25SPEAKER_03: Because I know that was there, even if it wasn't that you were like identifying particular plants, but what sort of earth connection did you have as well?
- 10:33SPEAKER_03: Or and or to the stars in the sky?
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:38SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 10:39SPEAKER_02: I was very, I feel like I was a lot like your oldest daughter.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: I was very much into reading and fantasy and music and like all these other realms.
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: I wasn't very grounded in my body or the present moment, just saying that's me, not exactly your daughter, but in terms of the the other worlds that I loved going to in my mind and creating and writing stories and choreographing plays with my sisters and all of that.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: And my dad is very he was always in the yard, still is.
- 11:21SPEAKER_02: He loves landscaping and tending our yard.
- 11:24SPEAKER_02: So there was always that peace.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: We had a pool growing up, we played in our neighborhood, we had play outside a lot, and outside was very fun and exciting, especially because my dad was always around and out there.
- 11:37SPEAKER_02: My mom's opposite.
- 11:39SPEAKER_02: She was definitely more of an indoor person.
- 11:42SPEAKER_02: But I was reflecting on this too.
- 11:44SPEAKER_02: I always loved especially connecting to intuitive astrology and how I feel like it's played in.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: I loved traveling and whenever we would take trips as a family, which was quite often we would do yearly vacations.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: And my dad is from Utah, so we would go to Utah at least once a year, sometimes twice a year.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: And I loved the different landscapes and the mountains were like so fascinating to me.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: And I remember as a kid just being like, wow, I want to live all different places.
- 12:18SPEAKER_02: I really felt this urge and this call to go explore and experience new places.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: And that was a huge part of my life after in college and beyond.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: I just traveled, traveled and had a lot of friends in different states and would spend time in different states, and especially like the West Coast, really called to me.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: It was so different than where I grew up on the East Coast.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: And I feel like that connected to that sort of childlike, almost fantasy and imagination of what's out there and what could I experience and what could I explore and discover.
- 12:57SPEAKER_02: That really stayed with me.
- 12:59SPEAKER_02: And now that I'm more grounded in my life, I still travel quite a bit.
- 13:03SPEAKER_02: I still love traveling.
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: That hasn't really changed for me.
- 13:07SPEAKER_02: I think it's just totally a part of who I am.
- 13:10SPEAKER_02: But the lens of astrology gives me such connection to that higher power, something outside of me, something that I can really track that's so vast and endless and boundarylessness.
- 13:25SPEAKER_02: That's always been a part of my life.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: And as a kid too, I was very spiritual.
- 13:29SPEAKER_02: I was very faithful in my teenage years in college and even post-college.
- 13:37SPEAKER_02: I was very devoted to my faith and church, and especially music.
- 13:43SPEAKER_02: That was my connection to church.
- 13:45SPEAKER_02: I was always singing at church or playing piano.
- 13:48SPEAKER_02: And so that was a huge anchor in my life.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: And for me, astrology, like lots of people have maybe opposing views with astrology and faith or astrology and religion.
- 14:00SPEAKER_02: But for me, it was just an extension of the same exact thing.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: And when I stopped being in communities where I was either playing music at church or in college, I was a part of a lot of different ministry groups when that ended, just because of my phase of life.
- 14:18SPEAKER_02: I just naturally moved on to my next thing, which was more the astrology world and other types of communities as well.
- 14:26SPEAKER_02: But to me, it just flowed so effortlessly.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: And I was like, oh, this is all the same language.
- 14:31SPEAKER_02: To me, it's all the same thing.
- 14:32SPEAKER_02: It was never this huge deconstruction of religion and going and moving into astrology.
- 14:38SPEAKER_02: It was just all flowing.
- 14:40SPEAKER_02: And I think all comes from that place of that connectedness I always felt as a child, too.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: I love that.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: That makes that makes a lot of sense to me.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: I feel like there's so many disciplines or areas of study where, like you're describing, people are like trying to justify these opposing things and sometimes to just find that the thread is all the same, that it's like something beyond us and beautiful and mysterious, but like also, I don't know, maybe.
- 15:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah, sorry, I don't mean to interrupt.
- 15:15SPEAKER_03: I think I was thinking the same thing.
- 15:16SPEAKER_03: Just we've Scott and I have had these conversations sometimes at home around religion.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: And I grew up not going to church, and really I do feel like it would benefit me.
- 15:28SPEAKER_03: And I know the time will come when I do learn more about different religions, including Christianity.
- 15:34SPEAKER_03: I really don't know some of those basic stories from the Bible.
- 15:38SPEAKER_03: And so Scott and I have had these conversations.
- 15:40SPEAKER_03: I'm like, I feel like I want to take the kids to church, but I don't really know which church I want to take them to.
- 15:45SPEAKER_03: And this sort of conversation.
- 15:46SPEAKER_03: I want them to grow up with some knowing of these things because I didn't really grow up with that.
- 15:51SPEAKER_03: And Scott's kind of he did grow up with that.
- 15:54SPEAKER_00: He's like To an extent.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, okay, to an extent, but like Catholic Church and Yeah, but it wasn't my upbringing in that wasn't with a particular, it didn't really have a spiritual sort of focus.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: It was like a cultural.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: My dad grew up Catholic, and it was really important to my grandparents that we stayed engaged in that world, and so we did.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: But to my dad, it was kind of a joke, and for him, the woods was his real church, like being out hunting and fishing and being out in the natural world.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: I didn't.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: I grew up learning some stuff about Catholicism, and but it was like steeped in this idea that it wasn't the real thing, or it wasn't I don't know.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: There was maybe wasn't a certain amount of reverence for it to some extent.
- 16:43SPEAKER_00: There was also some acknowledgement that there was like a lot of hypocrisy.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: That was like where my dad was coming from.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: People go to church and then go home and gossip about their neighbor, you know.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: And he always saw through that.
- 16:54SPEAKER_00: And so if we were indoctrinated with that, as this is, I don't know, a sham almost is but I was always seeking the spiritual peace because I was always seeking that sort of spiritual life, spiritual understanding, connection.
- 17:09SPEAKER_03: I didn't mean to disrail it.
- 17:12SPEAKER_03: No, that didn't derail me at all.
- 17:13SPEAKER_03: I think that's exactly derailing you.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 17:16SPEAKER_00: That's a disrail.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: No, so what I was trying to get to was that we have these conversations, and Scott's when I'm out on our land, I'm connecting with God and this higher power.
- 17:26SPEAKER_03: And my point was just that, yeah, I think that it makes sense to me that there might be some people who I have this similar sort of situation with my aunt kind of seeming to get really nervous that Ella was learning these little witchy spells.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: And I was like, whoa, this is not, I'm not teaching her the work of the devil.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: We're like taking earth elements and we're speaking our dreams.
- 17:51SPEAKER_03: And it was just like, this is not, this doesn't have to be opposing to your religion.
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: I think for you, it's outside your awareness that there are those thoughts, like in some particular religions, like there that there might be some opposition to.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: I think that caught you off guard.
- 18:07SPEAKER_03: That that was it did catch me off guard.
- 18:11SPEAKER_03: And so just the the idea that we have to separate things so much.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: And I love that you're speaking about this with astrology and spirituality and religion, because I hadn't really ever thought about that much, but it makes sense that of course some people are going to see that there's a that those things can't coexist when absolutely, of course they can, right?
- 18:31SPEAKER_03: Of course, yeah.
- 18:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: I never had any big conflict about it within myself.
- 18:41SPEAKER_02: And even from outside, I've never really experienced any judgment, but I also I was the one in my family that was more religious.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: My parents weren't pushing that on me at all.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: I was taking the charge, and then when I went a different direction, they're just like, oh, she's just doing her thing.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: There wasn't any kind of pressure on me either, which I'm grateful for.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: That's cool.
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: That's interesting to me too.
- 19:04SPEAKER_03: And do you feel like a lot of that was because of the music that you found in church and just like that being the place of connection with that?
- 19:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I had a similar experience, like Scott, that you're kind of saying with your dad, because I we did grow up going to church holidays, Catholic church holidays.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: It's the same thing.
- 19:26SPEAKER_02: My mom's parents were very Catholic.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: And so they wanted to make sure, and my mom too, but going through our first communion and things like that.
- 19:35SPEAKER_02: So I we had a church that we were familiar with, and then when I was a teenager, probably 14 the director of I think youth ministry or something wanted me to play the piano and start this youth band.
- 19:50SPEAKER_02: They called it the teen band, and they were gonna have this teen mass to revitalize the church.
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 19:56SPEAKER_02: And I was like, love that.
- 19:58SPEAKER_02: I had just started going to a Catholic all-girls school for high school, which was not religiously driven, really.
- 20:08SPEAKER_02: I just was wanting to go to a private school, or I just like I was like searching high schools in the area because that was me at age 13, like just very nerdy.
- 20:19SPEAKER_02: And I had like an English teacher say, Oh, you should check out the school.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: And then my grandparents were like, Oh, it's Catholic.
- 20:24SPEAKER_02: Yes, that's a great school for you.
- 20:27SPEAKER_02: But it ended up really resonating with me, and I loved my religion classes, and so yeah, this woman at the church kind of recruited me in to play music.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: And I remember every week just looking out at the pews of people, and everyone just looked completely dead.
- 20:42SPEAKER_02: I was like, what is going on?
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: You're just robot saying these words and singing these songs, and so I was very convicted to I want to feel what I'm singing, I want to really minister this music.
- 20:56SPEAKER_02: And so that got me into researching different music and different songs and bringing them to the band and be like, oh, let's try this song.
- 21:04SPEAKER_02: This is a beautiful song that I connect with.
- 21:06SPEAKER_02: And then I saw the church culture change a little bit and people coming up to us and saying, Oh my gosh, you guys, I come to this mass every Sunday because your energies really encourage me or whatever it is.
- 21:22SPEAKER_02: And it was a really cool experience that was like a huge part of my high school years was like leading worship nights or the band, and we would record our own songs and we meet t-shirts, and it was just this funny thing.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: And my parents would sometimes come, sometimes not.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: My dad would stand in the lobby and listen to us play, but it wasn't this huge religious pressure thing.
- 21:44SPEAKER_02: It was really the music for me, and then choosing a college too.
- 21:48SPEAKER_02: I was like, okay, I want to keep doing music ministry in college as well.
- 21:52SPEAKER_02: So I chose a college that had a program.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: But yeah, I had like kind of that similar experience of I.
- 22:00SPEAKER_02: I want this to feel authentic to me.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: And so there's definitely certain parts of Catholicism that I never resonated with.
- 22:08SPEAKER_02: Or I did a service year, like an AmeriCorps program after college that had a really big Catholic culture.
- 22:18SPEAKER_02: And I went into that being like, oh, I'm not like actually Catholic because I don't know any of this stuff that like these kids that were raised super Catholic.
- 22:28SPEAKER_02: I just was picking and choosing what resonated with me.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: And I really loved that.
- 22:34SPEAKER_02: And I hope to raise our children in that way too, where it's like, here's all of these opportunities that you can be involved in, but like choose your own adventure because it really allowed me to like pivot and to figure out what my own values were.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: And I think just have that like continual thread of God, not like God in one bracket or one box, but just to like continue seeking and continue searching always.
- 23:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I love that.
- 23:05SPEAKER_00: I didn't I didn't know really any of this about your story, but it's really fascinating to me.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: I love old spiritual music, old gospel and spiritual tunes.
- 23:14SPEAKER_00: Were you bringing was that what were the types of songs that were inspiring people?
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Was that older stuff or was it contemporary Jesus music?
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: I feel like there were some older contemporary Jesus music, but yeah, some of the 90s classics or even 80s, but some more modern contemporary too for sure, especially going into college.
- 23:38SPEAKER_02: That was more the butt.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: I'm unfamiliar with most of that music, but I'm saying old.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: I'm talking like 90.
- 23:45SPEAKER_00: Like hymns, yeah.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like old.
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: There's so many beautiful old when like the dawn of recording of music.
- 23:51SPEAKER_00: There's a bunch of there's people traveling around and recording all this music that was particular.
- 23:57SPEAKER_00: Record industry around like the mid-20s recognized that there was some audience for collecting old music because it's what people knew and loved.
- 24:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:07SPEAKER_00: Felt really real.
- 24:09SPEAKER_00: And there were some people that went around.
- 24:11SPEAKER_00: That was like the the birth of country music came out of some of those sessions.
- 24:15SPEAKER_00: They were like, wow.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: Oh wow.
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: People like this.
- 24:17SPEAKER_00: They called it hillbilly music because they're like setting up in these towns in the south and calling like basically just open studio.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Come with your songs, and if you're good enough, we'll put you on a record.
- 24:27SPEAKER_00: And all these people came out, and there's so many cool recordings, really great stuff.
- 24:32SPEAKER_00: I had something else I was gonna say that I'm forgetting.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: Oh, just you're describing like picking and choosing what what resonated for you and what made sense out of that.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: I think that's I know there's some people that wouldn't, that's not how they practice religion, and that's not the way, but that's really what makes sense to me.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: And I always had this feeling.
- 24:52SPEAKER_00: My my grandmother, especially being like devout, I love that she got what she got out of that part of her life.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: Like she knew where she was going when she died, and she was connected to a higher power, and she called it a specific thing and had a very specific idea of all of what that was.
- 25:11SPEAKER_00: That to me, that piece is less important somehow.
- 25:16SPEAKER_00: But I do feel like if people find any of those things, if they find genuine community in their religious affiliation, if they find genuine like spiritual life, then to me, like all those things are great.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: And where I always bumped into it.
- 25:33SPEAKER_00: So I went to catechism, so you know, first communion and up through, and then I dropped out in 10th grade before getting confirmed as like protest a little bit because there was this whole other piece that was like the damning of people who weren't then to me that was just that was just I couldn't get behind that.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: I was like, Right.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: I don't bel the God that I believe in isn't sending people to hell because they didn't worship Jesus or something like that.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: But I do appreciate those institutions as things that allow people to find that sort of yeah, yeah.
- 26:09SPEAKER_00: Sorry, little rambling.
- 26:11SPEAKER_03: No, you don't have to apologize.
- 26:13SPEAKER_03: That's great.
- 26:14SPEAKER_03: I feel like it's all super interesting.
- 26:16SPEAKER_03: I was gonna ask a little bit about, I was just thinking about intuition and you being an intuitive astrologer and what that means for people that might not know.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: I experienced that with you when you are when we have astrology readings, that you are very intuitive.
- 26:35SPEAKER_03: And I'm just curious if there's anything about that you want to talk about, how you honed your intuition, or also does that like how that is.
- 26:45SPEAKER_03: I don't know, I don't know if an intuition is out of alignment with religion or something like that, but I'm just feeling into where those things intersect as well.
- 26:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, interesting, because I know what you mean, because sometimes that intuition piece is stamped out in those institutions a little bit, but I think it goes back to just how I always was, and I always had a really strong personal connection to spirit and to God and to, and I'm also an Aquarius son, so I have this like very rebellious part of me where I'm like, You can't tell me what to do or what to believe in.
- 27:27SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna choose what resonates with me.
- 27:31SPEAKER_02: And yeah, I always I just always had that connection.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: I can just always remember just praying came so easily to me when I was a little kid.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: And then as I I always had a very strong sense of belief and faith that there was like a higher meaning and a higher purpose.
- 27:53SPEAKER_02: And so I I think too thinking back to what resonated with me was also service and service to others, and that was a huge part of my everything that I've been involved in has had this level of it's not ministry because it's not like I'm evangelizing a religion, but it's like connecting and serving.
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: And whether that was service trips in high school or birth and postpartum work or astrology, it's all had these these threads of my values of hope and faith and trust.
- 28:32SPEAKER_02: My one of my natural gifts, I think, is having that perspective and then really wanting to share that.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: And to me, astrology is especially the intuitive piece.
- 28:42SPEAKER_02: It's kind of this to me, it means that you are really relying on your own lens, which every astrologer does.
- 28:50SPEAKER_02: They might just not be saying it.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: Every healer, every service provider, every astrologer, you're going to draw from your own experiences and draw from your own lens.
- 29:00SPEAKER_02: So if you are a fear-based person, you're probably going to be looking at a chart and being like, okay, what can I scan for danger?
- 29:07SPEAKER_02: What's coming on the horizon that I need to warn them about?
- 29:10SPEAKER_02: And for me, from my intuitive knowing or my intuitive place, it was always from this lens of what's working out?
- 29:21SPEAKER_02: What is here for our growth?
- 29:24SPEAKER_02: And how can we weave this all together and paint this picture of where this person is going, this place of hope.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: And then also my mentor, Virginia Rosenberg, she was the one that brought that term to me, like intuitive astrologer.
- 29:39SPEAKER_02: She was the first astrologer that I saw like online when I first found her using that term.
- 29:44SPEAKER_02: And to me, it was always a very feminine connotation as well, because there weren't a ton of really prominent female astrology voices that I could find when I was first learning about astrology.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: And a lot of the podcasts and resources were very dense and technical.
- 30:02SPEAKER_02: And I was like, again, like picking and choosing.
- 30:05SPEAKER_02: I'm like, this is, I know that there's something here for me, but I can't even read this.
- 30:09SPEAKER_02: I can't resonate with this on a deep level.
- 30:13SPEAKER_02: And when I found Virginia, she really spoke in terms of energy and cycles and archetypes.
- 30:19SPEAKER_02: And of course, she does draw on like the technicality, and she's very brilliant in that way, but she really also emphasized the spiritual side of it and then knowing and that you can also bring your gifts into it.
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: So when you're sitting with someone, it's not just the technicality of the trend that's coming up, but it's also what you're feeling energetically about what you're seeing, and yeah, drawing on your own wisdom and of course, like listening to the person and intuiting what might be coming up for them as well.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: So it's more holistic, balanced, and like bringing in more of that feminine, which I yeah, was a contrast from like maybe more of the institutionalized religion as well, like bringing it all together.
- 31:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I feel when I think about just how everyone is born and as a child has this strong sense of intuition.
- 31:19SPEAKER_03: And one of my teachers, John Barnes, always talked about how school just like beats that out of us and we just don't have that sense.
- 31:27SPEAKER_03: And my kids do go to school, they're not homeschooled or unschooled or whatever, wild schooled or whatever.
- 31:33SPEAKER_03: And I I really do want their intuition to remain intact.
- 31:38SPEAKER_03: And so I feel like without really specifically consciously encouraging that, that is what we're trying to provide for our kids.
- 31:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they're at school at home too, and in the forest and on the farm.
- 31:50SPEAKER_00: So I think that's an important distinction to make.
- 31:52SPEAKER_03: But I think even for I've always felt like my intuition is okay, that's not true.
- 31:57SPEAKER_03: I was gonna say I've all I was going to say I was I always have felt like my intuition is quite strong, but it's really been more in recent years.
- 32:04SPEAKER_03: And I feel like there was a period of time probably when I had less connection to just kind of the earth and my body, that my intuition was a little bit more challenged.
- 32:15SPEAKER_03: But in just the last year, just really trying to develop my psychic abilities too, and just this deeper connection to spirit and my intuition, it's been so interesting for me to then just, I feel like just in the last month, even, I've really just gone for it when I have, for example, I led this unwind challenge, which was all about my official unwinding.
- 32:39SPEAKER_03: And on the last call, I just dropped in with the women that were on the call and did some one-on-one work with this group.
- 32:46SPEAKER_03: And one woman came on and I just started breathing and connecting with her body and with spirit, and immediately, I immediately felt her tailbone.
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: And she felt it too.
- 32:58SPEAKER_03: She felt it curling under.
- 32:59SPEAKER_03: And I think that this is possible for everyone.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: And where I see this for myself with astrology is this morning I just posted that I'm in this, like, I feel like I'm in this little bit messy middle of totally redefining.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: I actually wrote an email this morning to my email list that said redefining my legacy.
- 33:21SPEAKER_03: And that was the word you used in a comment to you're like, you're totally up for renegotiation of these things, like your legacy and your home.
- 33:27SPEAKER_03: And I find that when I do talk with you about astrology, I'm like, I'm already doing the things.
- 33:34SPEAKER_03: I'm going along with my astrology.
- 33:35SPEAKER_03: I'm not trying to fight it.
- 33:37SPEAKER_03: And I guess I'm I have a curiosity around that.
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: Is that do you find that sometimes you do readings for people and they're almost in resistance of what is naturally?
- 33:48SPEAKER_03: And I know it's not like all laid out as some grand plan that people have to follow, but I'm curious if you could speak to that at all.
- 33:55SPEAKER_03: Just how some people flow with it more, maybe, because that's how I feel, and other people might be in a bit more resistance to the changes that are at play.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: Yeah, definitely.
- 34:07SPEAKER_02: I find that a lot of the people that I connect with do have a very intuitive sense, or they're like living their purpose more fully, maybe than just like the resonance of the people who find me.
- 34:28SPEAKER_02: But I really noticed how the busyness of life and the sort of robotic nature of go to school, get a job, work your nine to five, watch TV, go to bed, repeat, it really dampens our ability to live our full purpose.
- 34:50SPEAKER_02: And so a lot of the times if I'm just chatting about astrology with someone or a friend, and it's like they're not really in a place where they're loving their life, where they're just doing what they think they should do.
- 35:05SPEAKER_02: So they're not gonna connect with that.
- 35:08SPEAKER_02: And there's also a piece of a lot of my friends are mothers with young children, and they're not really in the phase of life to be like reflecting on what's going on or even have a lot of energy going inward.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: And so I think too, it can be different seasons of when you're aware of where life is bringing you.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: But yeah, in terms of resistance, I feel like it's more so maybe a numbness or an inability to really live the full potential.
- 35:38SPEAKER_02: And I think a lot of it is also time.
- 35:40SPEAKER_02: If I was so committed to having a life of freedom and a life of exploration, that I was like, I can never work a real job.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: I need to make my own schedule, I need to be doing what I'm passionate about.
- 35:54SPEAKER_02: But it comes with a lot of challenges as well, and that's not for everyone.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: And so I think if your time is also devoted to something that's not energizing you or something that's not authentic, you're not really able to feel into oh, it's a reset in your legacy.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: You're like, okay, I'm not doing anything different.
- 36:17SPEAKER_02: There's no opportunities coming in because my life is just the same thing every day, which is unfortunate.
- 36:24SPEAKER_02: But I feel like that's kind of the current plague that I see.
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: And also when there's like a general lack of spiritual sort of connection, I feel, or belief system, then time feels like time feels so finite.
- 36:45SPEAKER_00: And if you're like, I was just talking with this about my friend Amet, and he was talking about how people in our town just they're like windy roads, it's hilly, there's lots of blind spots, lots of the roads are dirt.
- 36:58SPEAKER_00: And people fly around, people drive so fast.
- 37:02SPEAKER_00: And he was making this observation around how the world that we've created, the world that we exist in today.
- 37:10SPEAKER_00: So many people spend their week doing stuff that they don't like, that they're not connected to.
- 37:15SPEAKER_00: And so then they're like, get down at the end of the day, or for the weekend, and their time is so limited.
- 37:23SPEAKER_00: And so they're just flying around.
- 37:25SPEAKER_00: And his whole thing, he's like, I feel like I have nothing but time.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: And he's he's designed his life in a very different way.
- 37:32SPEAKER_00: He came up and camped out in a cabin for 25 or 30 years, really roughing it, you know, not a lot of stuff, and not traveling too far or anything, but it enabled him to build the such a beautiful life.
- 37:50SPEAKER_00: He only does the things that he really wants to do, which are like playing music and playing in the garden and enjoying nature.
- 37:59SPEAKER_00: I feel like I get that sense from him, somebody that's just really living life so beautifully.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: I also get that sense from Lindsay's dad, the way that he moves about the world, like when he's at our place and just he's just out there experiencing it and no need to move fast.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, the fast pace, fast-paced nature of modern life is certainly a problem.
- 38:24SPEAKER_03: And um, and when like when you were talking about, let me see, let me think for a second.
- 38:30SPEAKER_03: I think what I when you were talking, what came to mind for me is just I see this all the time and disconnect from our body.
- 38:36SPEAKER_03: Because when people start to come and have body work with me, it's very often that after a handful of sessions, they're like, I don't like my job.
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: And they have this real coming too, where suddenly they're just unwilling to continue with the status quo, which is ignoring the messages of their body and their intuition.
- 38:57SPEAKER_03: They're just suddenly, oh, or they have to either leave a relationship or maybe just really speak their truth to their partner or something like that.
- 39:04SPEAKER_03: But it's like they just can no longer pretend that everything is okay when they just start to open up to their body and to yeah, I think I feel that it's and my work was so slow.
- 39:18SPEAKER_03: It's just so, and for people that don't know fascial work, at least the way I do it, it's like I have my hands in one place on someone's body for five or 10 minutes, and I'm feeling so much under my hands, but it looks like I'm not doing anything.
- 39:32SPEAKER_03: And you sat in on my session with Cam, so you got to watch a little bit, which was very sweet to have you as witness of that.
- 39:39SPEAKER_03: But I think that's just it.
- 39:40SPEAKER_03: And that's actually why I love my work so much, is because I just I actually need to slow down.
- 39:46SPEAKER_03: We just had this conversation with some friends that were visiting from Costa Rica, and this couple and the wife, Lyle, she's very slow moving like Scott, and the husband is much more fast moving in in his nature, and that's the way Scott and I are.
- 40:00SPEAKER_03: I'm quicker moving and he's slower moving.
- 40:03SPEAKER_03: And I was saying, I appreciate Scott being slower moving for the most part.
- 40:07SPEAKER_03: It's like I have my own frustrations with it, and I recognize that those are unwarranted, and actually it would benefit me and everyone in our world to just low down.
- 40:16SPEAKER_03: And actually, when you slow down, you can really listen and you can really hear, and you can really literally the stop and smell the roses is such an important metaphor.
- 40:26SPEAKER_03: Stop and smell the roses, stop and witness God in nature or whatever it is.
- 40:32SPEAKER_03: We have to take our time to do these things, or else we're just like you said, just moving so fast.
- 40:38SPEAKER_03: Like we can't even moving so fast, being so numb, going through the motions, and then the the whole purpose of life feels so well, and then the lifetime has passed by.
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 40:49SPEAKER_00: And you never got the chance to stop and smell the roses.
- 40:52SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, seriously.
- 40:54SPEAKER_02: And even if you're not moving physically fast or you're very busy, like I notice this more so with me.
- 41:00SPEAKER_02: I'm like taking in so much information.
- 41:02SPEAKER_02: Like I'm listening to podcasts, I'm listening to music, I'm talking with friends, I'm whatever I'm doing, but I'm I might be like staying in my house all day or like taking a walk around the neighborhood, it looks like I'm enjoying life, but I'm actually just like inputting so much, which of course that's fun sometimes.
- 41:20SPEAKER_02: But I think too, if you're never giving yourself a moment to receive information and yeah, slow down and tune in with your body and just be all of the astrology content, or you're always gonna be like, well, that doesn't apply to me.
- 41:36SPEAKER_02: I never feel that it doesn't resonate because you're not even giving yourself an opportunity to feel or reflect.
- 41:44SPEAKER_02: And yeah, it definitely is a symptom of like our culture, but it's also something that is free that we can do to change, change our lives, like just more silence.
- 41:54SPEAKER_02: Like that's been a big thing for me of how much more space and silence can I create in my life.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: And yeah, for me, it it's definitely like tuning out other voices.
- 42:08SPEAKER_03: That makes so much sense.
- 42:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's important.
- 42:11SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I feel like I had this experience yesterday.
- 42:14SPEAKER_03: I went to Virginia Rosenberg's Instagram to just try to read what this eclipse is all about, and it wasn't posted yet, or I didn't see it or something.
- 42:24SPEAKER_03: And I was like, actually, you know what?
- 42:25SPEAKER_03: I can feel what's coming up in this eclipse.
- 42:28SPEAKER_03: I already know what this eclipse is like.
- 42:30SPEAKER_03: And I went to sleep super early last night and woke up and I ended up just crying to Scott and just telling him like all these things that were on my mind, mostly from just getting a really good night's sleep, and then just everything was so present, which I think that's also a problem in our world.
- 42:46SPEAKER_03: And this has been a thing for me lately, is I've stayed up late.
- 42:49SPEAKER_03: It's not like an every night thing, but I go through little spurts where I'm or I might fall asleep with Serena for a couple hours and then wake up and stay up late.
- 42:56SPEAKER_03: And so my sleep is just not the same.
- 42:58SPEAKER_03: And after getting a good night's sleep, I was like, wow, like there are some, there's a lot of things that feel really unknown to me as we start this eclipse season, but there's also there were things that were just so clear.
- 43:12SPEAKER_03: And I just actually, I also really love that about eclipses.
- 43:15SPEAKER_03: That seems to be a thing that I notice for myself is that even if things get shaken up, there's just this reorientation to what's in alignment, which is also what happens in my work.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: And I feel like that's what happens if people come for a retreat and connect with the earth.
- 43:30SPEAKER_03: They just have this greater sense of what is in alignment.
- 43:36SPEAKER_03: What are your thoughts?
- 43:39SPEAKER_00: Thinking, processing.
- 43:42SPEAKER_03: I have one question for you, Emily, which is do you remember?
- 43:45SPEAKER_03: I'm guessing as a kid, you maybe were like learning a little bit about Aquarius or little bits of that.
- 43:50SPEAKER_03: But do you remember the first time you really got right into astrology and it changed your life?
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 43:56SPEAKER_03: Yes, I do.
- 43:57SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was into the like horoscope.
- 44:00SPEAKER_02: And I think I had a book on astrology in my teenage years, but it was after college.
- 44:07SPEAKER_02: I was living in Baltimore.
- 44:10SPEAKER_02: And my friend Keely and I took an improv class.
- 44:14SPEAKER_02: And there was actually this amazing improv theater walking distance from my apartment.
- 44:20SPEAKER_02: And I spent so much time there because they had free shows every single night.
- 44:24SPEAKER_02: It was a nonprofit theater, so donation only.
- 44:27SPEAKER_02: And you could just, I we literally spent almost every night there.
- 44:31SPEAKER_02: And it was so fun, such an amazing community.
- 44:34SPEAKER_02: And I we ended up taking classes, and my instructor, he was an astrologer, or maybe I don't know if he would call himself that, but just very into astrology.
- 44:47SPEAKER_02: And he collected all of our earth information at the beginning of class.
- 44:50SPEAKER_02: And he just on his own for his own fun, he would have us do scenes based on our astrology.
- 44:57SPEAKER_02: So he would have like all the air signs do a scene together.
- 45:00SPEAKER_02: And then he would have like all the fire signs.
- 45:02SPEAKER_02: And he didn't really tell us what we were doing, but he would mention it and he would say things like, Okay, for class tomorrow, the moon is in Leo, so wear a bright color or whatever.
- 45:12SPEAKER_02: And then at the end of class, Keely and I were like, We're really interested in this.
- 45:17SPEAKER_02: Tell us more about astrology.
- 45:18SPEAKER_02: And he just offered to read our birth charts like separately.
- 45:22SPEAKER_02: And so that was my first chart reading with him.
- 45:24SPEAKER_02: And he didn't know anything about me personally outside of class.
- 45:29SPEAKER_02: And the reading that he gave me was just so spot on and specific.
- 45:36SPEAKER_02: And I could tell there was so much complexity and so much depth.
- 45:39SPEAKER_02: It wasn't just, oh, here's your son's sign, here's some traits.
- 45:41SPEAKER_02: It was really my first true example of how the birth chart can weave together to just paint such a full picture of so many different facets of your personality and your life.
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: And it can really be such a tool for helping you problem solve and navigate different areas of life.
- 46:02SPEAKER_02: And we didn't even go that deep, but I was like, wow.
- 46:05SPEAKER_02: And so having Keeley, my friend, too, in it with me, we just started self-we just started learning so much and reading each other's charts and learning about our own.
- 46:16SPEAKER_02: And he would help us a lot, but it was really just such a fun time of exploration and curiosity.
- 46:23SPEAKER_02: And I think for both of us, it did come pretty naturally and pretty easily.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: And it's funny because we're both Aquarius, and Aquarius kind of is associated with the practice of astrology, just very cosmic.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: And yeah, so that was, I think, 2018.
- 46:42SPEAKER_02: And then shortly after I found Virginia's work, and I just really resonated with her writing and her psychic nature of how she channels the different transits and how she spoke about them and really connected, she's very connected with the earth and with the seasons, and with it's a very grounded perspective of astrology.
- 47:01SPEAKER_02: And I really needed that and I loved that.
- 47:03SPEAKER_02: And then I started working for her a few years later and learned so much through taking her classes and writing for her and writing with her and seeing how she taught.
- 47:16SPEAKER_02: And really, it just always felt like such a natural, ancient thing that just came so easily.
- 47:24SPEAKER_02: And every time I do a reading, I'm like, wow, I still can't believe that it still works.
- 47:30SPEAKER_02: It's just so accurate every time.
- 47:32SPEAKER_02: And I used to have doubts of ooh, is this gonna land with the person, especially doing audio readings where you're not even sitting with someone live, you're just sending it out into the abyss.
- 47:41SPEAKER_02: But it is just such a to me a validation of the connectedness of the universe and of the pattern observing over time and the tracking that it just is so scarily spot on and accurate all the time, and not accurate in the sense of prediction, but the energy of it and the energy that you can feel in people and that you can read.
- 48:05SPEAKER_02: It's just crazy.
- 48:06SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, improv 2018.
- 48:08SPEAKER_02: It was like so fun and just very lighthearted.
- 48:12SPEAKER_02: And yeah, he had a spreadsheet of everyone's astrology and the whole theater.
- 48:17SPEAKER_02: And I was just like, wow, this is just very cool.
- 48:21SPEAKER_03: That's so fun.
- 48:22SPEAKER_03: And I was just thinking back to when you did Scott and my just Scott and my reading together.
- 48:28SPEAKER_03: Is that called Sinistry?
- 48:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 48:31SPEAKER_03: I feel like I got it for maybe our anniversary or something.
- 48:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah, something like that.
- 48:36SPEAKER_03: And it was just this is my challenge with astrology, is I feel like my brain just doesn't really hold the information very well.
- 48:41SPEAKER_03: So I'll get a reading and be like, oh my God, that was amazing.
- 48:45SPEAKER_03: Everything resonated so much.
- 48:46SPEAKER_03: And then if someone were to ask me, like, what about it?
- 48:48SPEAKER_03: I'd be like, maybe I'd be able to come up with one thing.
- 48:51SPEAKER_03: And I remember that reading with Scott.
- 48:53SPEAKER_03: There was so much about us as a couple.
- 48:55SPEAKER_03: We've been together now, it'll be 20 years in less than a month.
- 49:01SPEAKER_03: And there were just some things that came out of that reading that I was like, wow, yeah, this all really tracks.
- 49:07SPEAKER_03: It really, I feel like for me, it helps to it just affirms certain things.
- 49:13SPEAKER_03: I feel like because our kind of standard in society is to feel like not enough or whatever, just like that we're wrong in some way to carry shame or anything like that.
- 49:24SPEAKER_03: It's like some somehow learning more about astrology or having readings has just firmed, like, oh, like that's a little bit that explains a little bit about like maybe why I am the way that I am or why I'm going through this thing or whatever it is.
- 49:39SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 49:40SPEAKER_03: Do you remember anything about that reading, Scott?
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: In particular, yeah.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: I remember we were born in the same year, and so we had a bunch of larger, like life purpose sort of alignment things that we had a bunch of stuff that was aligned.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: We're we're really quite different in so many ways.
- 49:56SPEAKER_00: But it was cool to hear some of these, like yeah, or like greater purpose.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: And I think like one of the things that came up was like wanting to be not quite like innovators, but like teachers or service inspiration really inspire a different existence or a different world that we had in common.
- 50:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 50:19SPEAKER_02: And that was before I even knew that the dreams that you had for your land and the retreats and everything were public, or maybe you guys were talking about them, but it is so interesting to the power of words and language.
- 50:37SPEAKER_02: And I'm sure you feel this, Lindsay, with your bodywork, but like how you narrate something to someone can really become like an anchor for them.
- 50:46SPEAKER_02: And I think that's also the intuitive piece, or maybe even just the ethical piece for me is always wanting to frame it not like fake positive, but in a way that can really be lived into in a a positive way, because I think astrologers, a lot of people go to astrologers for guidance or tell me what the future holds.
- 51:18SPEAKER_02: And you can really get on your high horse and pretend like exactly what's coming, but really no one can ever predict that.
- 51:28SPEAKER_02: And I think more so really helping people hold on to a vision for themselves, their life, their marriage, their family, that you really can see, but you never know how it's gonna unfold.
- 51:40SPEAKER_02: And so to just give people these pieces that they can take away with them of inspiration or hope, I that's what I love doing.
- 51:50SPEAKER_02: I think a lot of people think, oh, I don't want to be told what to do, or I don't want to know what the future holds.
- 51:56SPEAKER_02: And to me, that's not what that's not how I practice astrology, at least.
- 52:01SPEAKER_00: And you do such a good job of that because I'm not, I believe, I always say I believe in almost anything.
- 52:09SPEAKER_00: I believe in almost everything, maybe.
- 52:12SPEAKER_00: I have this thought, who am I to say that this or that isn't true?
- 52:16SPEAKER_00: Where I start to bump into more skepticism is around humans thinking that they know the answer.
- 52:23SPEAKER_00: I start that just typically rings full of shit to me a lot of the time.
- 52:28SPEAKER_00: I don't trust that, honestly, in a lot of ways, and maybe at times to my detriment.
- 52:33SPEAKER_00: But it's not that I don't, I love people.
- 52:35SPEAKER_00: I just that like all that trait that humans sometimes get that they feel like they really know the answer.
- 52:43SPEAKER_00: I just don't, it never resonates with me.
- 52:45SPEAKER_00: I never see that as being true.
- 52:47SPEAKER_00: But so working with you, I could just get that sense that exactly what you just described, that you're helping people on their path by and like what Lindsay was saying, like affirming sort of tendencies or energies or patterns that are likely to be stirring in their essence, which is such a different approach.
- 53:07SPEAKER_00: Like when I hear people just like doing what you're describing, they have to talk to their astrologer because they need the answer of what's coming or how to.
- 53:16SPEAKER_00: To me, that just seems confused.
- 53:19SPEAKER_03: Like I had this experience where it's like outsourcing.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: It's like you're trying to learn about your essence, but you're like needing to tap into somebody else's expertise who might not even really know you very well at all.
- 53:33SPEAKER_00: So I always had skepticism around that sort of end of astrology.
- 53:37SPEAKER_03: I'm thinking of this friend of mine who is basically trying to leave pretty much abusive relationship, and her astrologer told her, don't make any big actions until this certain date.
- 53:46SPEAKER_00: And I was like, Which was like nearly a year away.
- 53:49SPEAKER_03: Or at least six months.
- 53:50SPEAKER_03: And I was just like, they don't know what you're living right now.
- 53:54SPEAKER_03: They don't know that you need to listen to this.
- 53:56SPEAKER_03: And I think what you're describing in the word I would use is empowerment because it helps people to feel empowered to ride the wave of whatever is happening in their life.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: Validating to like validating to sometimes have those tendencies that are innate to yourself and pointed out.
- 54:13SPEAKER_00: This makes sense that you're this way because of all of these things in your chart.
- 54:17SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 54:18SPEAKER_02: I love the mystery and the reverence for the mystery.
- 54:21SPEAKER_02: And every single time I've thought in my own life, in my own chart, that something was going to come to fruition in a certain way, I've always been off.
- 54:31SPEAKER_02: I never claim some people are good at predicting, but I more so like it for all the reasons you're describing of just riding the wave and being present with life and having a little roadmap as you go, but not necessarily any, yeah, I like the mystery.
- 54:50SPEAKER_02: I don't like the idea that we can actually know exactly what's coming because it just is not true, in my opinion.
- 54:56SPEAKER_02: It's true.
- 54:58SPEAKER_03: Okay, just curious, kind of where you feel like you're going or what you're really excited about moving forward, just either in your work or your life, where your focus is right now.
- 55:12SPEAKER_02: My focus right now is very simple.
- 55:16SPEAKER_02: I feel like my focus is living and creating my life.
- 55:20SPEAKER_02: I feel like my 20s were a lot of learning and growing and experiences and travel and a lot of figuring out maybe what I wanted to do, and then realizing that it was never gonna be like a linear path, which I know a lot of the guests on your podcast have said as well, of just learning to be content with just being present, taking one step at a time and having fun in the journey.
- 55:51SPEAKER_02: And so I think my 30s are definitely more of this grounded and rooting and family creation and really creating a life that I feel excited about living, which again is a little bit different from maybe how I grew up or my energy in my teens and twenties of always looking for the next thing and having a lot of fun with doing it, but seeking and not being very present and grounded in my own life.
- 56:26SPEAKER_02: And I was even getting myofascial work the other day, and she was working on my feet because I've had some foot pain and I felt roots coming out of my feet, and I'm like, oh, I'm resisting rooting into my life because it's such a different thing for me to do, and yet I know that's what this next chapter is for me.
- 56:51SPEAKER_02: And even meeting my husband a few years ago, I wanted to be nomadic and live in a van.
- 56:59SPEAKER_02: And he was like, you know, we can just travel.
- 57:02SPEAKER_02: We don't have to life.
- 57:03SPEAKER_02: And I was like, wow, you're right.
- 57:07SPEAKER_02: Never thought about that.
- 57:09SPEAKER_02: He has helped me ground so much into just like the daily rhythm of life, and it has improved my life so much, health health-wise, and just all the different benefits of really being present and living a slow life.
- 57:26SPEAKER_02: So, yeah, it's very simple.
- 57:27SPEAKER_02: I feel like I don't really have these big visions, but at the same time, I feel the energy being created for creativity, just period, what wants to be created and having the space and the energy to be able to bring those things through when I feel that push or that vision.
- 57:45SPEAKER_02: And I think in the past, my 20s, it was more okay, I have to make this thing happen and I have this big plan.
- 57:51SPEAKER_02: And if it doesn't go this way, then I need to scrap it and do something else, but more so just really trusting now that whatever wants to come through will be able to come through if there's the space for that and the energy and the time, kind of what we were saying earlier, too.
- 58:09SPEAKER_00: I love that for you.
- 58:10SPEAKER_00: I think that's great.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: That's exciting.
- 58:12SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 58:14SPEAKER_03: Is there any one spot?
- 58:17SPEAKER_03: Is there any advice that you wish you would have gotten early on?
- 58:21SPEAKER_03: I feel like you just weaved some beautiful advice into what you're excited about, but I'm like, I probably wouldn't have taken it if someone gave it to me.
- 58:31SPEAKER_02: But I really loved, like, I I loved my the faith that I had that like by following what lit me up and like following my joy, that the next step would be like laid out in front of me.
- 58:48SPEAKER_02: And that's really how I lived for so long and still do, just like in a different way now.
- 58:53SPEAKER_02: But I always keep in mind how short life could be.
- 59:02SPEAKER_02: Like the feeling of like, what are you going to do with your one wild and precious life?
- 59:07SPEAKER_02: Like that Mary Oliver quote of really maybe the advice would be like thinking about your elder self and thinking about how you want to live when you're looking back on your life.
- 59:20SPEAKER_02: And that needs to start now, not in like a scarcity way, but just in the way that we don't actually know how long we have to create.
- 59:28SPEAKER_02: And so I've always had that feeling of wanting to make the most of every moment and not being scared, not living out of fear, and just really taking every day not for granted.
- 59:44SPEAKER_02: Just living a life of purpose.
- 59:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: Purpose, fun, passion, and yeah, not taking any of it for granted.
- 59:56SPEAKER_00: That's fantastic advice.
- 59:59SPEAKER_03: Can you tell our listeners where they can find you if they want to learn more about you or have any of your offerings, your astrology offerings?
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_02: Yes, my website is Emily Kingastrology.com.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_02: And I have I love doing audio readings.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_02: I found that people are really enjoying those to listen back on their own time and to have that silence and presence with the information as well.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_02: But I also love live readings and I post just fun stuff on my personal Instagram.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_02: I do sometimes talk about astrology on there as well just because it's woven in.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_02: But my Instagram is Emily J underscore King.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_02: And yeah, that's it.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_02: I do work on a calendar, cosmic calendar every year with Virginia Rosenberg.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_02: And we're in the creation process for our 2027 calendar, and that's a really great resource for just like dipping your toes in throughout the year and reading about the different transits that are coming up in a very, again, intuitive, explorative way where you can take it as you want, not really like predicting what's coming, but kind of just laying out the energies for the year.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_02: So that's always a fun project that I use almost every day.
- 1:01:21SPEAKER_01: Cool.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I'm three years in on that calendar and absolutely love it.
- 1:01:26SPEAKER_03: So I would highly recommend that.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much, Emily.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_03: It's been so chat with you.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna just give a quick announcement to our listeners, which is that we have now started a specific Instagram for this podcast and for our retreats, which was Emily's idea.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_03: And I was like, yeah, you're right.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_03: I probably should do that.
- 1:01:47SPEAKER_03: So it's homestead.andheal at Instagram.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_03: And I just wanted to say too that Scott and I were just looking at I apparently we can see where our listeners are listening from.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_03: And so it's been really fun to notice the cities that come up where people are listening to our podcast.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_03: And I can't think of any off the top of my head, but just these random places that we've had to look up on a map and be like, is this place in Denmark or New Zealand or like wherever it is?
- 1:02:19SPEAKER_03: And so just to say that if you're listening to this and you have loved our podcast, we would really love to hear from you.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_03: So whether that's a review, which is obviously really helpful, or you just want to shoot us a message and just tell us you're appreciating it, that would mean the world to us.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_03: Thank you so much.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_03: And thank you, Emily.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_03: And we can't wait to see you again here in Vermont.
- 1:02:41SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
