- 0:29Speaker 1: Welcome to Table Talk here at the Philadelphia Sports Table
- 0:31Speaker 1: podcast show, the longest running weekly Philly sports podcast show
- 0:34Speaker 1: in the world, over twelve and a half years strong.
- 0:36Speaker 1: We've got a great table talk show coming your way
- 0:39Speaker 1: this week. First time, we've got three gentlemen on to
- 0:43Speaker 1: dive into some NFL talk. There's a lot of storylines
- 0:46Speaker 1: going on in the NFL season as we are finishing
- 0:49Speaker 1: up Week twelve, looking at Week thirteen. The playoff picture
- 0:52Speaker 1: is in our minds already at this point, and a
- 0:55Speaker 1: lot of teams are doing some interesting things and to
- 0:58Speaker 1: join us this week from the Before the Snap podcast,
- 1:02Speaker 1: they're getting their start there and doing a fantastic job.
- 1:06Speaker 1: We have Jamison Hopkins, Peter Shay, and Daniel Montenegro. Guys, man,
- 1:10Speaker 1: I really appreciate you taking the time to join us here.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Jamison, good to see you, my friend.
- 1:16Speaker 3: It's no promise. Great to see you two. Thank you
- 1:18Speaker 3: so much for having us absolutely.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Peter, good to see you as well. Appreciate you taking
- 1:23Speaker 2: the time.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Hey, I mean, I'm blessed to be here. I love
- 1:27Speaker 4: being on these shows.
- 1:28Speaker 5: I love talking ball and believe me, I got a
- 1:33Speaker 5: lot to talk about.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Oh, we got some stuff to talk about.
- 1:35Speaker 1: And Daniel is lucky to be on the podcast since
- 1:39Speaker 1: he is a Dallas Cowboys fan, but we still love
- 1:42Speaker 1: him of course, and Daniel not today to well. Thanks buddy,
- 1:47Speaker 1: Daniel Man. Thanks so much for taking the time. Man,
- 1:48Speaker 1: We appreciate it having us. You got it, you got it. Okay, Look,
- 1:52Speaker 1: let's start getting into some NFL talk here, and of course,
- 1:55Speaker 1: you know on on the precipice of I should say
- 1:59Speaker 1: the the final the final aspect of the week twelve
- 2:04Speaker 1: Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Los Angeles Rams Tampa Bay Buccaneers
- 2:08Speaker 1: game that we saw last night as we're recording this
- 2:10Speaker 1: on Monday, November twenty fourth. Here, I want to dive into,
- 2:15Speaker 1: like the NFC in general, how the top of the
- 2:17Speaker 1: NFC is shaping up, because the two top teams have
- 2:19Speaker 1: been the Eagles and the Rams. Yet we know us
- 2:22Speaker 1: Eagles and Cowboys fans saw yesterday how the Eagles squandered
- 2:25Speaker 1: away a twenty one point lead and they let the offense,
- 2:31Speaker 1: they let their offense. The Eagles let their offense have
- 2:33Speaker 1: they I should say, they let the Dallas Cowboys back
- 2:37Speaker 1: into this game. Eagles offense just absolutely floundering. Week after
- 2:42Speaker 1: week during certain stretches in game. They lost that game
- 2:46Speaker 1: on a last second field goal. Score was twenty four
- 2:48Speaker 1: to twenty one. Meanwhile, you've got the Los Angeles Rams,
- 2:53Speaker 1: who I believe also in their game I could be mistaken,
- 2:56Speaker 1: but I believe they had a twenty one point lead
- 2:57Speaker 1: as well over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. But instead, what
- 3:01Speaker 1: the Rams did was they basically put their foot on
- 3:03Speaker 1: the Buccaneers throats completely dominated the game. We didn't see
- 3:07Speaker 1: that from the Philadelphia Eagles. So in terms of these
- 3:10Speaker 1: two teams that are at the top of the NFC,
- 3:12Speaker 1: gentlemen and Jamison, I'll start with you, what are your
- 3:15Speaker 1: thoughts on the top of the NFC when it comes
- 3:18Speaker 1: to how the Eagles have been playing as of late
- 3:21Speaker 1: and how the Rams have been playing as well? What
- 3:23Speaker 1: are your thoughts here?
- 3:25Speaker 3: So right now, I think, right now we have a team,
- 3:28Speaker 3: we have two different teams, one of which is amazing
- 3:31Speaker 3: on paper and the other one is just playing on
- 3:34Speaker 3: a whole other level. Yeah, of course I'll come out
- 3:36Speaker 3: the Eagles and Rams. So coming into the season, of course,
- 3:39Speaker 3: Eagles defending Super Bowl champions. They look great through the
- 3:41Speaker 3: first four weeks. It's just they have been let down
- 3:44Speaker 3: by one thing they're play calling. Kevin Patulo, he has
- 3:49Speaker 3: been a very controversial figure in Philly this year. A
- 3:52Speaker 3: lot of really odd fourth quarter play calls out of him,
- 3:56Speaker 3: not a lot of offensive confidence underutilizing Saquon Barkley. And
- 4:00Speaker 3: we saw that yesterday. This team got out to a
- 4:02Speaker 3: twenty one zhering lead and just coasted checkdown after checkdown
- 4:05Speaker 3: after checkdown, runs that went nowhere, screen passes that went nowhere,
- 4:08Speaker 3: and it allowed Dallas to get right back into this game.
- 4:12Speaker 3: And when forced to really make a play there in
- 4:15Speaker 3: the fourth quarter for Philly, they just couldn't do it.
- 4:17Speaker 3: They just not get the offense going in any sort
- 4:21Speaker 3: of confidence, any sort of rhythm. They just didn't have
- 4:24Speaker 3: it out there.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Absolutely all over.
- 4:26Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, Peter being an Eagles fan as well, the
- 4:30Speaker 1: one thing we love to be on this podcast platform,
- 4:33Speaker 1: quite frankly, is we're objective when it comes to our
- 4:37Speaker 1: Philly sports teams that we follow. We're objective when it
- 4:40Speaker 1: comes to the Eagles and other teams as well. I mean,
- 4:44Speaker 1: Jamison just kind of hit the nail on the head
- 4:45Speaker 1: in terms of the offense, the way that they have
- 4:47Speaker 1: been continuously stalling Kevin Patulo, his play calling, the coaching
- 4:51Speaker 1: of Nick Sirianni as well him continuing to let this
- 4:53Speaker 1: go on an offensive line that is banged up. There's
- 4:57Speaker 1: the lack of cohesion. Also, the predictive of the play calling.
- 5:01Speaker 1: When Will Shipley's out there, you know it's going to
- 5:03Speaker 1: be a pass play. You know that that is going
- 5:05Speaker 1: to happen, because it continues to happen week after week.
- 5:08Speaker 1: There are so many aspects of this Eagles team that
- 5:11Speaker 1: are not good. There's so many aspects of this Eagles
- 5:13Speaker 1: team that are good and underutilized as well. So I'll
- 5:18Speaker 1: ask you, as a fan and being objection you know,
- 5:22Speaker 1: being objective about this here when it comes to the
- 5:25Speaker 1: Eagles as of late and the way they've been playing
- 5:28Speaker 1: and the Rams how they've been playing, how are you
- 5:30Speaker 1: deciphering this?
- 5:32Speaker 5: Jeff, I've waited about twenty four hours to talk about this.
- 5:38Speaker 5: I've been holding in white a lot. Have something in
- 5:43Speaker 5: the back here, let me get it.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Oh he's moving, folks.
- 5:49Speaker 4: Hey, it's her offensive play calling.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Oh it's a garbage can, folks.
- 5:54Speaker 4: Garbage canulotulo. This seems very familiar. This is what we've
- 6:02Speaker 4: been using.
- 6:03Speaker 2: Yes, garbage garbage.
- 6:08Speaker 5: It makes me want to cry if you do not
- 6:11Speaker 5: take your children to an Eagles game when Kevin Patulo
- 6:14Speaker 5: is the offensive coordinator, not you talk about it.
- 6:20Speaker 4: It's predictable.
- 6:21Speaker 5: It's like do you I can't even compare this to
- 6:25Speaker 5: Brian Johnson because that's that's PTSD. Yes, this is like
- 6:31Speaker 5: worst PTSD because not only like listen, not only is
- 6:36Speaker 5: it bad, you are wasting a super Bowl roster, not
- 6:40Speaker 5: a potential a super Bowl winning roster that can that
- 6:44Speaker 5: when when they have a competent offensive coordinator like Kellen
- 6:49Speaker 5: Moore can can.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Win a super Bowl.
- 6:51Speaker 5: Yeah, and not not only win a super Bowl, win
- 6:54Speaker 5: against dominant teams like the Chiefs, the Rams, the Packers,
- 6:59Speaker 5: the command Okay, the Commanders haven't been very dominant this season,
- 7:03Speaker 5: but regardless, they can get it done without even blinking. Yeah, yeah,
- 7:09Speaker 5: do you know how incompetent With all your respect, nothing
- 7:13Speaker 5: against them personally. I know a lot of Philly sports
- 7:15Speaker 5: fans will get personal. We do not get personal here.
- 7:19Speaker 5: Professionally though, What are you doing?
- 7:22Speaker 2: Right?
- 7:23Speaker 5: I mean it's incredible.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Well, they're doing the exact opposite of what the Rams
- 7:26Speaker 1: are doing, I think at this point, right, Peter, because
- 7:28Speaker 1: the Rams have a very nice looking roster as well,
- 7:33Speaker 1: but the coaching and the leadership coming from the sidelines,
- 7:36Speaker 1: the in game decision making really is is the strongest
- 7:41Speaker 1: aspect of the Rams team at this point, am I.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I'm correct, right absolutely.
- 7:45Speaker 5: But the thing is is, obviously the Eagles beat the
- 7:48Speaker 5: Rams in the regular season.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I know they'll be delusional.
- 7:51Speaker 5: Eagles fans be like, oh, we beat the earl of
- 7:54Speaker 5: the year. Guess what the Rams have improved. They've gone
- 7:59Speaker 5: up this way. Eagles are going down, yes, but the
- 8:03Speaker 5: Rams are getting better as the season progresses, and that's
- 8:06Speaker 5: what the best teams do. Look at us last season,
- 8:09Speaker 5: we had that rough start, lost to the Falcons, to
- 8:12Speaker 5: the Bucks. Besides the Washington game where Jalen got concussion,
- 8:16Speaker 5: we didn't lose a single game for the rest of
- 8:18Speaker 5: the season. We managed to elevate ourselves, you know, to
- 8:22Speaker 5: look at ourselves in the mirror. And the Rams were
- 8:25Speaker 5: easily able to do that as well. Yeah, and that's
- 8:28Speaker 5: not mentioned. They didn't even trade for anyone big at
- 8:32Speaker 5: the deadline.
- 8:33Speaker 2: We did.
- 8:33Speaker 5: We traded for Jalen Phillips, we got Michael Michael Carter,
- 8:39Speaker 5: we got ja Yr Alexander. That lasted about zero point
- 8:42Speaker 5: two seconds. Yes, yes, so you welcome Baltimore.
- 8:45Speaker 1: But well, Jamie said, I'm sorry, Dan, I was gonna say,
- 8:49Speaker 1: is we're moving along with the conversation, And like Peter,
- 8:52Speaker 1: I appreciate your passion so much because I'm there with you, buddy.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I really am just the tip of the ice.
- 8:56Speaker 1: But like Dan, you know, yes you are, you're you're
- 8:59Speaker 1: a Cowboys fan. And again, like just appreciate the objective
- 9:03Speaker 1: nature of what this is. Because the Eagles are trending downward,
- 9:07Speaker 1: like Peter's saying, I mean, they're they're they're trending downward
- 9:10Speaker 1: from an offensive standpoint. When this Dallas Cowboys defense, quite
- 9:14Speaker 1: frankly not the greatest defense in the world this season,
- 9:17Speaker 1: as we all know, is able to stop this Eagles
- 9:20Speaker 1: offense that, on paper, as Jamison said earlier, is a
- 9:24Speaker 1: great looking offense. There are definitely some issues. How are
- 9:27Speaker 1: you deciphering the Eagles and the Rams at the top
- 9:30Speaker 1: of the NFC at this particular point in time.
- 9:33Speaker 6: So when the Eagles were up twenty was tw one nothing,
- 9:36Speaker 6: And yes, I really did think me and my dad
- 9:39Speaker 6: was a Cowboys fan. We thought the game was over.
- 9:41Speaker 6: You guys were going to score. In the first half,
- 9:44Speaker 6: we put up thirty. Actually that's why I thought. But
- 9:46Speaker 6: then when we've got we were moving down the field,
- 9:50Speaker 6: and then in the second half we started making turnovers.
- 9:52Speaker 6: We're like, okay, the Cow's offense on again, rhythm, Dak's
- 9:55Speaker 6: trying to go down the field. Jeyce pickings to cast
- 9:58Speaker 6: the ball. But then when I look at the Rams,
- 10:00Speaker 6: when they started scoring, they didn't they didn't stop scoring.
- 10:03Speaker 6: They kept going and going and going, and they was
- 10:06Speaker 6: in a game after that. So this is a difference,
- 10:08Speaker 6: especially adjustments for the coaches, so they're just on different levels.
- 10:13Speaker 2: They're absolutely yeah, I'm sorry, go ahead, Peah.
- 10:15Speaker 6: I love seeing you like this.
- 10:19Speaker 5: Love it.
- 10:20Speaker 2: That's friendship right there, man, that's friendship right there.
- 10:23Speaker 1: But okay, look, the NFC, I mean, it's still a
- 10:27Speaker 1: fluid conference here, and we're seeing other teams that are
- 10:30Speaker 1: doing some real good stuff too. And there's a team
- 10:32Speaker 1: I think that really is surprising a lot of NFL fans,
- 10:36Speaker 1: and that is the Chicago Bears. The Chicago Bears have
- 10:38Speaker 1: been somewhat of a surprise. I think this season certain
- 10:41Speaker 1: of us thought that they were really going to be
- 10:43Speaker 1: competitive in the NFC.
- 10:45Speaker 2: North.
- 10:46Speaker 1: I'm not sure a lot of us thought they would
- 10:47Speaker 1: be eight and three competitive and at the top of
- 10:50Speaker 1: the NFC North. As we are recording this again here
- 10:53Speaker 1: on Monday, November twenty fourth, I'm wondering, guys, Jamison will
- 10:58Speaker 1: start with you, what are your thoughts on how and
- 11:00Speaker 1: why the Chicago Bears have seen so much success this
- 11:04Speaker 1: season as we're heading into week thirteen here, what are
- 11:06Speaker 1: your thoughts?
- 11:07Speaker 3: Two words culture change. Obviously, they get the new head
- 11:11Speaker 3: coach in here, Brian Johnson, right from Detroit after a
- 11:15Speaker 3: plethora of successful seasons with them, But this is a
- 11:18Speaker 3: team that finds ways to win. This is a young team.
- 11:21Speaker 3: They got Roma Dunze, They've got Caleb Williams Cala Williams specifically,
- 11:26Speaker 3: who has taken such a leap in year two. You
- 11:29Speaker 3: might not see it from the necessarily efficiency, but what
- 11:32Speaker 3: you will see is the turnovers are down, the touchdowns
- 11:36Speaker 3: are up. The offense has been decently efficient and effective.
- 11:39Speaker 3: The defense has been getting stops when needed. This is
- 11:42Speaker 3: a team that's on I believe, a five four game
- 11:45Speaker 3: win streak. They were four and three, they are now
- 11:47Speaker 3: eight and three, and they did beat a decent team
- 11:50Speaker 3: last week. This team. While I do not think they
- 11:54Speaker 3: are a super Bowl contender right now, I think they
- 11:58Speaker 3: are one big We're one developing offseason away from jumping
- 12:03Speaker 3: into that tier because they are leading one of the
- 12:06Speaker 3: best divisions in football right now.
- 12:07Speaker 4: This is a.
- 12:08Speaker 3: Division with the Lions and the Packers in it, and
- 12:12Speaker 3: they are leading this division. And I don't think that
- 12:14Speaker 3: was on the bingo card for a lot of people
- 12:16Speaker 3: this year.
- 12:16Speaker 2: They're absolutely correct, Peter.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I look at this division when you have what was
- 12:22Speaker 1: supposed to be the Green Bay Packers contending for an
- 12:25Speaker 1: NFC championship. You also have the Lions, who we saw
- 12:29Speaker 1: what they did last year. They've certainly taken some steps
- 12:31Speaker 1: back as well. But the Chicago Bears are surprising us
- 12:35Speaker 1: all here. What are your particular thoughts on the rationaleen
- 12:37Speaker 1: reasons why?
- 12:39Speaker 5: Well, before I say anything, it feels like nineteen eighty
- 12:42Speaker 5: five with Chris Farley, Robert Smiegel, Mike Myers, the whole
- 12:47Speaker 5: SnO skit. They might want to start recreating that, what
- 12:49Speaker 5: forty years later because it's sunny in Chicago right now.
- 12:54Speaker 4: Yeah, And.
- 12:57Speaker 5: Like I said, I don't think they're a Super Bowl contender,
- 12:59Speaker 5: yet I still want seats some more consistency out of
- 13:02Speaker 5: Caleb Williams. But you got some young guys in there.
- 13:05Speaker 5: You got the Romo Dunesa's, the Kyle maclong guys. I
- 13:10Speaker 5: believe that's how you say his last name. You got
- 13:12Speaker 5: the DeAndre Swift. What I love about this Bears offense
- 13:16Speaker 5: is they don't rely on the big time players. They
- 13:19Speaker 5: rely on the smaller.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Guys as well, guys like Kyle mclung.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Guy.
- 13:24Speaker 5: They got Coaston Lovelin who went off yesterday, who's been
- 13:28Speaker 5: one of the best tight ends in not just in
- 13:30Speaker 5: his rookie class with Tyler Warren, but just in general.
- 13:33Speaker 5: I believe he is he's like a couple hundred I
- 13:36Speaker 5: believe in like the he's like five hundred and six
- 13:38Speaker 5: hundred receiving yards. That's just off the top of my head.
- 13:40Speaker 5: But they have so many stars or future stars, future
- 13:44Speaker 5: young stars that they are getting.
- 13:47Speaker 4: The ball to.
- 13:47Speaker 5: It's not just you know, feed DJ Moore or feed
- 13:51Speaker 5: Romo Dunez. They are spreading it out so well. And
- 13:55Speaker 5: I'm glad you brought up the rest of the NFC
- 13:57Speaker 5: North because I made a video yesterday. You can check
- 13:59Speaker 5: it out on TikTok Instagram YouTube about how I believe
- 14:03Speaker 5: the Packers earn a do or die situation. And this
- 14:07Speaker 5: was before the Vikings game where they had to win
- 14:09Speaker 5: that game. They could not afford to lose that game
- 14:12Speaker 5: because I check their schedule out, they play they have
- 14:16Speaker 5: to play the Lions again on Thanksgiving, So the whole world,
- 14:20Speaker 5: plus you know the uncles and ants who are the
- 14:23Speaker 5: casuals of the NFL, They're gonna be checking them out.
- 14:27Speaker 5: And you don't want to look bad there. But you
- 14:30Speaker 5: play the Lions, you play the Bears, the Broncos, the
- 14:32Speaker 5: Bears again, the Ravens, and then the Vikings. I would
- 14:36Speaker 5: say at least five of those teams, not including the Vikings,
- 14:39Speaker 5: will most likely end up making the playoffs. Yeah, that's
- 14:42Speaker 5: a tough and considering how Jordan Love hasn't looked like
- 14:47Speaker 5: how we thought he would be, you know, this is
- 14:50Speaker 5: the time where they need to prove that, you know, they're.
- 14:54Speaker 4: A top dog in the NFC. That Micah Parsons trade
- 14:57Speaker 4: was them going all in. Yeah, and this is it's
- 15:00Speaker 4: so important right now.
- 15:01Speaker 5: And let me ask you this, Jeff, do you think
- 15:05Speaker 5: the Packers are in a more do or die situation
- 15:08Speaker 5: or the Lions?
- 15:09Speaker 4: Because I believe it's a toss up.
- 15:11Speaker 1: It really is a toss up. But you made a
- 15:13Speaker 1: good point with regard to the Packers here, because I
- 15:16Speaker 1: think when you look at the Packers and you look
- 15:17Speaker 1: at the stability of where the quarterback situation is at
- 15:20Speaker 1: this point, I think I think there's something going on
- 15:22Speaker 1: with Jordan Love, whether it is an injury or whether
- 15:26Speaker 1: it is aspects of this offense that just aren't coming
- 15:29Speaker 1: to him. And yes, he's had certain injuries with his
- 15:32Speaker 1: wide receiver corps over the years. There is that chemistry
- 15:35Speaker 1: that needs to continue developing as well. Jared Goff has
- 15:38Speaker 1: had that with the Lions and with he's had it
- 15:41Speaker 1: with his receivers amon Ra Saint Brown, Jamison Williams, like
- 15:45Speaker 1: he's had that chemistry throughout this season. For the most part,
- 15:49Speaker 1: I think it's do or die more for the Green
- 15:52Speaker 1: Bay Packers at this point than the Lions, just based
- 15:55Speaker 1: on the consistency of the quarterback play quite frankly, but
- 15:58Speaker 1: a great question.
- 15:59Speaker 5: Yeah, But just to add to that, Yeah, like me, personally,
- 16:03Speaker 5: I still trust the Lions.
- 16:04Speaker 4: I'm not giving up on them.
- 16:06Speaker 5: I don't think it's a do or I think they're
- 16:08Speaker 5: way too talented I think we can all.
- 16:10Speaker 4: Agree with that, right, damn right, Jamison, I believe that.
- 16:13Speaker 5: I believe they're one of those talented teams, you know,
- 16:16Speaker 5: roster wise, I mean that's just the offense.
- 16:19Speaker 4: Defense. You got guys like Aiden Hutchinson.
- 16:21Speaker 5: You have Alex Angeloni, you got Brian Branch, you got
- 16:25Speaker 5: all these you know, great players that are finally healthy,
- 16:29Speaker 5: you know, compared to last season. Yeah, I'm not worried
- 16:31Speaker 5: about the Lions. I think they could still win the
- 16:33Speaker 5: NFC North. The Packers, I'm not so sure about Love.
- 16:37Speaker 5: You know, we need Toyota than Love.
- 16:40Speaker 4: Yeah, that's been the whole joke.
- 16:42Speaker 5: Josh Jacobs has been banged up. We're not sure if
- 16:44Speaker 5: he's playing the receiving court. The whole joke is there.
- 16:48Speaker 5: They have like five wide receiver twos. I don't know
- 16:50Speaker 5: if they can like mesh them together and create the
- 16:52Speaker 5: ultimate wide receiver one, but they need that, and I
- 16:58Speaker 5: you know, I never want to assume this, but I
- 17:00Speaker 5: always wonder when they made that Micah Parson's trade, did
- 17:02Speaker 5: they you think it got in their head? Maybe they
- 17:04Speaker 5: thought that they were, you know, bigger and better than
- 17:08Speaker 5: they really thought.
- 17:10Speaker 2: I I think that's a good point.
- 17:12Speaker 1: I think there was the conventional wisdom that they needed
- 17:16Speaker 1: that one defensive player that was going to help put
- 17:19Speaker 1: them over the edge. And I think from a mental standpoint,
- 17:22Speaker 1: perhaps that really played into the sports psychology of the
- 17:27Speaker 1: team in general, where the offense said, Okay, you know what,
- 17:29Speaker 1: we've got this weapon in Michael Parsons coming over. Perhaps
- 17:33Speaker 1: we don't need to quote do as much as we
- 17:37Speaker 1: are maybe expected to do or maybe that we should do.
- 17:40Speaker 1: We're going to leave it to the defense to make
- 17:42Speaker 1: sure that we're out on the field more. And that
- 17:45Speaker 1: just really hasn't manifested itself as well. I mean, it's
- 17:48Speaker 1: a it's a great question. I also want to get Dan,
- 17:51Speaker 1: you know, your opinion on the Chicago Bears as we
- 17:54Speaker 1: circle back and talk about this team that has been
- 17:58Speaker 1: doing some interesting things, as Peter was saying, over these
- 18:00Speaker 1: past few weeks here, and you take a look at
- 18:03Speaker 1: the schedule, it's going to be difficult for the Bears.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I'm sorry, it's going to be difficult for other teams
- 18:09Speaker 1: in the NFC North. Meanwhile, the Bears are at the
- 18:12Speaker 1: top here and it's a surprise. What are your thoughts here, Dan, Yeah, I.
- 18:16Speaker 6: Just think like Jameson said the signing of getting of
- 18:19Speaker 6: Ben Johnson really elevated Caleb Williams because I did believe
- 18:23Speaker 6: that in the draft that he had the most potential
- 18:26Speaker 6: to be the best quarterback in that draft. Yeah, obviously
- 18:29Speaker 6: Jenny James had that amazing Rooki year took the Commanders
- 18:32Speaker 6: to the Energy Championship game. But it just shows you
- 18:35Speaker 6: what Ben Johnson has done for Killer Williams in his development.
- 18:39Speaker 6: But also for the Bears to be content, I would
- 18:41Speaker 6: love to see them playing more playoff teams like they're
- 18:46Speaker 6: playing the Eagles if I'm not mistaken on Friday.
- 18:48Speaker 2: On Friday, Yes, that's interesting game.
- 18:51Speaker 5: Yep.
- 18:52Speaker 6: I do think they'sion to win that. Sorry, Peter, they might.
- 18:58Speaker 2: They might.
- 18:58Speaker 1: We're going to be diving into it here on our
- 19:00Speaker 1: Opposition Territory podcast this week as we preview that particular matchup,
- 19:04Speaker 1: and that's gonna be certainly an interesting matchup as well
- 19:07Speaker 1: as the Bears have been hot recently and as we
- 19:10Speaker 1: talked to Eagles.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Are trending downwards.
- 19:12Speaker 1: But with that being said, folks, we are going to
- 19:15Speaker 1: take a break, but again, make sure you search out
- 19:18Speaker 1: before the Snap podcast with Jamison Dan and Peter Great great.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Listen Again, we're gonna go to break and when we
- 19:27Speaker 1: get back, we're gonna have some more NFL talk coming
- 19:29Speaker 1: your way. But I would ask before if you are
- 19:32Speaker 1: watching on YouTube, like and subscribe to us here. You
- 19:35Speaker 1: can also hit the bell to be notified when we

- 19:45Speaker 1: Table podcast show on Instagram.
- 19:47Speaker 2: We're over on.
- 19:47Speaker 1: Twitter slash x at Philadelphia Pst. I'm over on TikTok
- 19:51Speaker 1: at mister Jeff Warren. If you're listening to the audio,
- 19:54Speaker 1: feel free to follow me over on Blue Sky at
- 19:57Speaker 1: Jeff Warren. You just give me a follow. There were
- 19:59Speaker 1: on also our Facebook page as well. Again, we're gonna
- 20:03Speaker 1: take a break. When we get back, we got more
- 20:05Speaker 1: NFL talk coming your way. All right, we are back
- 20:09Speaker 1: with our good friends Jamison, Dan and Peter from the
- 20:13Speaker 1: Before the Snap podcast, and I want to dive into
- 20:17Speaker 1: one team again. I think that has surprised all of
- 20:21Speaker 1: us this season, all of us NFL fans, and that
- 20:24Speaker 1: is the New England Patriots. They have the best record
- 20:26Speaker 1: in football right now as of us recording this ten
- 20:29Speaker 1: and two, not in a million years. Did I think
- 20:32Speaker 1: that that was going to happen this season when we
- 20:34Speaker 1: did our season preview here at the PST podcast show,
- 20:38Speaker 1: I'm wondering, guys and Jamison, I'll start off with you,
- 20:41Speaker 1: do you think this is due to the change in
- 20:44Speaker 1: coaching with Mike Vrabel at the Helm or is there
- 20:47Speaker 1: something else that's going on with this team where they
- 20:50Speaker 1: are running on all cylinders at this point, just pulling
- 20:53Speaker 1: out win after win here, What are your thoughts?
- 20:55Speaker 3: I actually have a lot of feelings about this. So obviously,
- 20:59Speaker 3: same with the Bears. The Patriots had a huge culture
- 21:02Speaker 3: change this offseason. Obviously, Mike Vrabel was the former coach
- 21:08Speaker 3: of the Titans. End linebacker for the Patriots, and I
- 21:12Speaker 3: thought that the firing of Mike Verbel on Tennessee was
- 21:15Speaker 3: a very premature decision, and I knew it was only
- 21:18Speaker 3: a matter of time before he got back into the
- 21:20Speaker 3: league and started making waves again, and this was clearly
- 21:23Speaker 3: the year. So he gets the job with New England
- 21:25Speaker 3: and all of a sudden, this team goes from being
- 21:29Speaker 3: bottom of the AFC East to the top of it.
- 21:32Speaker 3: And even with all of the prowess that Mike Rabel
- 21:36Speaker 3: has shown, as a head coach back in the NFL.
- 21:38Speaker 3: I think there's one hiring that has possibly been more important,
- 21:42Speaker 3: and that is the hiring of Josh McDaniels. So obviously,
- 21:45Speaker 3: Josh McDaniel's is another controversial figure in the because of
- 21:49Speaker 3: his time as a head coach was not always gone
- 21:52Speaker 3: very well, specifically with Denver and the Raiders. But as
- 21:55Speaker 3: an offensive coordinator, I mean, he's been the offensive coordinator
- 21:58Speaker 3: of New England before when Tom Brady was their quarterback,
- 22:01Speaker 3: and he has always been capable of coaching a very
- 22:03Speaker 3: nice system offense, and I think that's what we're seeing
- 22:06Speaker 3: with this Patriots team that has just been destroying teams,
- 22:09Speaker 3: limiting turnovers, and creating efficient plays, which is why that
- 22:13Speaker 3: team is ten and two. They have played in admittedly
- 22:17Speaker 3: an easier schedule, which is to be expected considering they've
- 22:21Speaker 3: been four and thirteen in the past two years, but
- 22:23Speaker 3: I don't think that takes away from the fact that
- 22:25Speaker 3: this team is still very good and they have beaten
- 22:28Speaker 3: good competition like the Bills the Buccaneers. Yeah, the team
- 22:31Speaker 3: has proved that they're for real, in my opinion, and
- 22:33Speaker 3: they're coming for that one seed right now as well.
- 22:35Speaker 1: I think there's something to be said, Peter, for a
- 22:39Speaker 1: team and even like the Philadelphia Eagles, and this Philadelphia
- 22:42Speaker 1: Eagles team is eight and three, and yes we're talking
- 22:44Speaker 1: about how they're trending downward, but not turning the ball over.
- 22:48Speaker 1: I mean that really has been a pedigree for this
- 22:50Speaker 1: Patriots team. And not turning the ball over means you're
- 22:55Speaker 1: not giving the other team opportunities. And we haven't seen
- 22:59Speaker 1: it much with the Philadelphia Eagles outside of yesterday's game
- 23:03Speaker 1: against the Dallas Cowboys, not too many turnovers. But when
- 23:07Speaker 1: it comes to the New England Patriots, there is something
- 23:10Speaker 1: to be said for not turning the ball over and
- 23:13Speaker 1: that's one of the reasons why Drake May is able
- 23:15Speaker 1: to continue to improve and develop upon his game as well.
- 23:18Speaker 1: What are your thoughts here on the Patriots.
- 23:20Speaker 5: I mean, like you said, I mean coaching matters. I mean,
- 23:25Speaker 5: if you're the Titans right now, you have to just
- 23:27Speaker 5: be face palming because like everyone expected this once he
- 23:31Speaker 5: went to the Patriots. Now, I'm sure we didn't expect
- 23:33Speaker 5: him to be this good this quickly, right, but.
- 23:36Speaker 4: I mean you get a guy.
- 23:37Speaker 5: Who was a part of the Belichick regime and you
- 23:41Speaker 5: don't and people are surprised that he's acting like Belichick, Like,
- 23:47Speaker 5: are we really surprised? I expected the Patriots to be good,
- 23:50Speaker 5: not this good. I thought there would be some growing pays.
- 23:54Speaker 5: But shout out Drake May. Yeah, I mean, I mean, look,
- 23:58Speaker 5: this just proves to you a good coach can do
- 24:01Speaker 5: for a quarterback and a good coordinator. You know, a
- 24:04Speaker 5: certain person can start taking notes. But we will not
- 24:07Speaker 5: be dropping me.
- 24:09Speaker 2: Absolutely.
- 24:10Speaker 5: Overall, I think it's like I said with the Bears.
- 24:13Speaker 5: I think it's the little things for the Patriots as well.
- 24:16Speaker 5: The addition of Stefan Diggs, you know, yeah, the defense
- 24:20Speaker 5: getting guys like Milton Williams as well. I think it's
- 24:24Speaker 5: just this is what New England needed after Brady left.
- 24:29Speaker 5: It was a cold hard reset, not to rebuild, a reset.
- 24:34Speaker 5: Get younger guys in there, get a new generation of
- 24:38Speaker 5: players and coaches, and look, the Evil Empire is back. Okay, yeah, absolutely,
- 24:44Speaker 5: the Evil Empires is back. You know, a bunch of
- 24:49Speaker 5: greedy people up there in Massachusetts near Boston.
- 24:54Speaker 4: But shout out to the Patriots.
- 24:56Speaker 5: I will say this, they're a great regular season team.
- 25:02Speaker 5: I will not say this team is a super Bowl
- 25:04Speaker 5: team until they at least win a playoff game. And
- 25:08Speaker 5: there's a game coming up December twenty first, New England
- 25:12Speaker 5: Patriots Baltimore Ravens that may be one of the biggest games,
- 25:17Speaker 5: maybe even the biggest game of the season coming up.
- 25:20Speaker 5: This will this will define the AFC. I think interesting
- 25:25Speaker 5: a lot of people.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Yeah, interesting the Patriots, you.
- 25:28Speaker 5: Know, I'm bringing up their schedule right now. They play
- 25:32Speaker 5: they play the Giants. Ooh, they play the Bills, they
- 25:36Speaker 5: play the Ravens, they play the Jets, and they played
- 25:39Speaker 5: the Dolphins. So the Bills, who are basically the AFC
- 25:44Speaker 5: version of the Eagles right now, just completely tanking and
- 25:48Speaker 5: now they have to watch their old arch nemesis, you know,
- 25:52Speaker 5: start to pop off again.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:53Speaker 5: But that game against the Ravens, I believe whoever loses
- 26:00Speaker 5: that game, And I said this for the Ravens as well,
- 26:03Speaker 5: and I stand by it, but I especially for this,
- 26:06Speaker 5: I think there is a high likelihood that the loser
- 26:09Speaker 5: of that game will be a first round exit.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Yeah, okay.
- 26:13Speaker 5: I also said this on the TikTok and the YouTube
- 26:15Speaker 5: and the Instagram.
- 26:16Speaker 4: You go check that out.
- 26:16Speaker 5: Before the snap, I said that the Baltimore Ravens will
- 26:21Speaker 5: be a first round exit. Obviously, it depends who they play.
- 26:23Speaker 5: But let me ask you this. I know we're talking
- 26:27Speaker 5: about the Patriots, but how far do you see the
- 26:31Speaker 5: Patriots going in a particularly I like to say weak AFC.
- 26:35Speaker 1: This is an interesting question because of the dynamics that
- 26:39Speaker 1: are at play with this team, brand new coach. As
- 26:42Speaker 1: we know, as we're talking about here, you have a
- 26:44Speaker 1: developing quarterback. Where's that where's that quarterback's mind going to be?
- 26:49Speaker 1: Where is his body going to be towards the end
- 26:51Speaker 1: of this season to continue this success I think with
- 26:55Speaker 1: this Patriots team. I always hate to use the phrase
- 26:59Speaker 1: luck in sports, but let's be honest. There's there's luck
- 27:02Speaker 1: at times in sports. How the ball bounces, you know,
- 27:05Speaker 1: where the puck goes in hockey, how that you know
- 27:08Speaker 1: how that basketball is coming down off the rim at times.
- 27:13Speaker 1: You know, there's luck at times in sports. But with football,
- 27:16Speaker 1: I think when it comes to the culture and the
- 27:20Speaker 1: the the coaching that is in place, there is something
- 27:24Speaker 1: to be said for that, especially at the end of
- 27:26Speaker 1: the season as you head into the postseason, I think
- 27:28Speaker 1: the Patriots could absolutely at this point win at least
- 27:32Speaker 1: one playoff game, if not too. At this point, but
- 27:36Speaker 1: it's a it's a really, really good question. And I also, Dan,
- 27:40Speaker 1: I want to get your take on the Patriots as
- 27:42Speaker 1: well here because I think, you know, it's it's interesting
- 27:47Speaker 1: to look at this team. And I go back to
- 27:49Speaker 1: one of my friends of the pod here. He's one
- 27:52Speaker 1: of the editors over at ESP Nation. He's a Patriots
- 27:55Speaker 1: fan and has said to me years ago when Brady left,
- 27:58Speaker 1: he said, Jeff, we're gonna be walking through the desk
- 28:00Speaker 1: for some time US Patriots fans. And they certainly were
- 28:03Speaker 1: walking through the desert with Mac Jones, and they they
- 28:07Speaker 1: didn't have direction at all, not just with the quarterback situation,
- 28:11Speaker 1: with the defense just offensive personnel. Dan, I'm wondering, what
- 28:14Speaker 1: do you think about where the Patriots are going now,
- 28:17Speaker 1: what their record means, and is it because of Rabel
- 28:20Speaker 1: here or are there other factors involved? What are your thoughts?
- 28:23Speaker 6: Yes, So, I think the having Mike Rabel there, who's
- 28:26Speaker 6: a culture that brings the pages back, helps not just
- 28:31Speaker 6: the team but the quarterback. Because once you have a
- 28:33Speaker 6: good coach and a good and a good quarterback, Yeah,
- 28:35Speaker 6: you could go places. Andy Vey Pets Mahomes, Yes, Mahomes.
- 28:42Speaker 1: We've got we've got Jamison looking at Dan like he's crazy.
- 28:47Speaker 4: That's why it's not like.
- 28:50Speaker 6: For the Pages. I think the ace is wide open,
- 28:52Speaker 6: like Peter said, because to be honest, the Coats do.
- 28:56Speaker 6: I chose Daniel joneson the players, I probably don't know
- 28:59Speaker 6: Steelers be'st questions Ravens. Who knows?
- 29:03Speaker 2: Then?
- 29:03Speaker 6: You then is the Bills? They they're so inconsistent. I
- 29:07Speaker 6: really don't trust them. And the Broncos they'd just be
- 29:10Speaker 6: the teeth a few what was it two weeks ago?
- 29:13Speaker 6: So I think that this might be the pages opening
- 29:16Speaker 6: pretty much. I could really see them being in the
- 29:18Speaker 6: AFT Championship game.
- 29:20Speaker 2: Yep, yep, all right, very good, very good.
- 29:22Speaker 1: Well boys got a lightning round here as we are
- 29:25Speaker 1: running low on time. So gonna ask you maybe to
- 29:29Speaker 1: give me a very concise answer, maybe a couple sentences
- 29:32Speaker 1: when I ask these questions. Jamison will start with you,
- 29:35Speaker 1: what do you think one of the most overrated storylines
- 29:38Speaker 1: in the NFL is this season, whether it's with a
- 29:40Speaker 1: team or a certain player's what's an overrated storyline that
- 29:46Speaker 1: we should be focusing on here?
- 29:47Speaker 2: What are your thoughts?
- 29:49Speaker 3: I think that the Denver Broncos as an offensive unit.
- 29:53Speaker 3: I think that that team, yeah, going into the playoffs,
- 29:57Speaker 3: is not built for the super Bowl because I just
- 29:59Speaker 3: don't think their team is going to score points in
- 30:02Speaker 3: in the league we have right now, you just need
- 30:05Speaker 3: an offense. It's not the early two thousands. Yeah, I
- 30:07Speaker 3: don't think the team can win a Super Bowl off
- 30:10Speaker 3: of a dominant defense like they could back then.
- 30:13Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, very good, Peter. What are your thoughts
- 30:15Speaker 1: here about the most one of the most overrated storylines
- 30:18Speaker 1: real quick?
- 30:20Speaker 4: You know I'm going to say this.
- 30:21Speaker 5: I'm going to say rookie NFL quarterbacks. Yeah, I know
- 30:25Speaker 5: it's a weird one, but let me I like it
- 30:27Speaker 5: because you have cam Ward, you have Jackson Dart, you
- 30:31Speaker 5: have Shador Sanders, you have Dylan Gabriel, and I believe
- 30:36Speaker 5: the media is kind of thrusting them into the spotlight
- 30:40Speaker 5: or you know.
- 30:41Speaker 4: Because they actually do yes as they usually do.
- 30:43Speaker 5: But really, I don't think any one of these quarterbacks
- 30:48Speaker 5: are ready to take that leap yet. I think they're
- 30:52Speaker 5: all all of them, and I love cam Ward as
- 30:54Speaker 5: a prospect, I don't think any of them are ready
- 30:57Speaker 5: to you know, lead their team yet. I think all
- 31:00Speaker 5: these teams are still in a rebuild. I think, like,
- 31:04Speaker 5: for example, the New York Giants, I did not like
- 31:07Speaker 5: the fact that they fired Brian dave Ball from a
- 31:09Speaker 5: you know, let's take away the biased EQUS fan in
- 31:13Speaker 5: me that love beating them, But I think that's that
- 31:16Speaker 5: was a bad decision.
- 31:17Speaker 4: It's ruining his development.
- 31:20Speaker 5: And what I'm trying to get here is we're rushing
- 31:23Speaker 5: them too quickly. Yeah, and I think Sador Sanders is
- 31:26Speaker 5: the perfect example. It's like you have one side saying, oh,
- 31:29Speaker 5: he stinks. You know, there's a reason he was a
- 31:31Speaker 5: fifth round pick, and the other people were like, you're
- 31:33Speaker 5: just a hater, you know, give him a chance. You
- 31:38Speaker 5: need to give these guys time. I think that goes
- 31:41Speaker 5: for the twenty twenty four class as well. I get
- 31:44Speaker 5: that that may end up as a legendary class, but
- 31:47Speaker 5: you know, be patient with these qbs. I think at
- 31:49Speaker 5: least one of them will, you know, become a really
- 31:51Speaker 5: good QB.
- 31:51Speaker 1: I think that's a good overrated storyline for sure. And
- 31:54Speaker 1: to finish us up here, Dan, what are your thoughts?
- 31:56Speaker 1: What do you think is one of the most overrated
- 31:58Speaker 1: stories here in the NFL as we're heading into week thirteen.
- 32:02Speaker 6: Yes, similar to a. Peter says, you gotta be patient
- 32:05Speaker 6: with these quarterbacks because you see Daniels and CJ. Stott
- 32:08Speaker 6: having great rookie years. You just expect them off the
- 32:11Speaker 6: off the draft just to let's play their ball. The
- 32:15Speaker 6: just play amazing. Yah, the rookie good boy for rookies.
- 32:19Speaker 6: You're going to the league. College football and the NFL
- 32:21Speaker 6: are too different. The speed is different, like your life
- 32:25Speaker 6: is very different being a NFL player from a college
- 32:27Speaker 6: football player. So I think be patient and let the
- 32:30Speaker 6: coach develop the quarterbacks correctly. Just don't fire him after
- 32:34Speaker 6: two years or three years.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Given the time.
- 32:36Speaker 1: Absolutely, one of the something we talk about on this
- 32:39Speaker 1: podcast platform all the time is how the relationships between
- 32:42Speaker 1: players and coaches in any sport are so important because
- 32:46Speaker 1: then you're gonna have good things manifest on the field,
- 32:49Speaker 1: on the court, on the ice, wherever it is. So
- 32:52Speaker 1: I think that's a great way to end this conversation. Again,
- 32:55Speaker 1: folks talking to Jamison Hopkins, Peter Shay, Daniel Montenegro the
- 33:01Speaker 1: Before the Snap podcast. Gentlemen, it was great talking with you.
- 33:05Speaker 1: Thanks so much for taking the time. I appreciate it,
- 33:08Speaker 1: and uh, let's go birds.
- 33:10Speaker 4: Right, love the show. You know very much to be
- 33:18Speaker 4: back on this. This was incredible.
- 33:20Speaker 3: Yes, thank you so much for having us all.
- 33:22Speaker 2: You got it. You gotta appreciate you, guys, Appreciate you
