- 0:03Speaker 1: Welcome friends to the second hour of the Morning Show
- 0:06Speaker 1: with Preston Scott and I am taking your phone calls
- 0:09Speaker 1: and I've asked you to put your thinking caps on,
- 0:14Speaker 1: and the challenge is very simple. What do you think
- 0:19Speaker 1: would be the proper appropriate response by Turning Point USA
- 0:26Speaker 1: to what has happened. I would love to hear your ideas.
- 0:33Speaker 1: That's what this is about ideas. I have a statement
- 0:38Speaker 1: here from Turning Point USA that is powerful, but I
- 0:44Speaker 1: can almost assure you their board of directors, advisory board.
- 0:53Speaker 1: I don't know how they were totally constructed. This thing
- 0:56Speaker 1: was birthed in Charlie's garage when he was eighteen years
- 1:01Speaker 1: of age, but I can all but guarantee you they
- 1:06Speaker 1: are right now praying and seeking wisdom for what is
- 1:14Speaker 1: the appropriate response. The effort here was to shut it
- 1:20Speaker 1: down because Charlie was such a visible, vocal, focal point
- 1:29Speaker 1: for Turning Point USA. The shooter's idea is, well, that
- 1:35Speaker 1: ends that I think amongst you are good ideas, better
- 1:44Speaker 1: ideas than what I have. I'll share mine, but I
- 1:48Speaker 1: would rather hear yours. I've got every day Monday through
- 1:53Speaker 1: Friday to share mine. I can just stop the show
- 1:56Speaker 1: and say, I'm going to talk about it right now.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I can do what I want when I want. I'm
- 2:02Speaker 1: asking you to not just go through the exercise, which
- 2:08Speaker 1: by the way, I've done. When I decided. I told
- 2:14Speaker 1: you yesterday I was going to pray about what I
- 2:16Speaker 1: was going to do today, and I sat in my
- 2:18Speaker 1: office yesterday. I finished the show. Yesterday, I went on
- 2:24Speaker 1: a drive, found a driving range, and I beat up
- 2:28Speaker 1: some golf balls for a while, not in anger, just
- 2:32Speaker 1: to just be out surrounded by nobody. There was nobody around,
- 2:38Speaker 1: and I just spent some time, and then I got
- 2:41Speaker 1: home to my office, gave my wife a kiss, and
- 2:49Speaker 1: I started to think about and pray about what should
- 2:53Speaker 1: we do today on the show. I decided to do
- 2:59Speaker 1: the show to get back to what we do to
- 3:05Speaker 1: not be somber. All morning long, I was somber. I
- 3:08Speaker 1: still am. I'm like a lot of us. I'm grieving,
- 3:13Speaker 1: but we grieve differently. We grieve with hope. And I
- 3:16Speaker 1: asked myself the question, what would Charlie want done? I
- 3:24Speaker 1: guarantee you turning point USA is wanting that answer. They
- 3:29Speaker 1: are asking that question, what would Charlie want us to do?
- 3:33Speaker 1: I would imagine at some point Erica, his wife, his
- 3:38Speaker 1: widow is going to weigh in on here's what Charlie
- 3:40Speaker 1: would want. I'm asking you what should the response be? Now?
- 3:46Speaker 1: I have my idea. We got a series of them,
- 3:50Speaker 1: but I want yours. Tim, Thanks for calling in. What'should
- 3:54Speaker 1: Turning Point USA do?
- 3:56Speaker 2: Good morning?
- 3:57Speaker 3: I think they are going to have to quickly find
- 4:01Speaker 3: somebody to become the image of Turning Point to replace Charlie.
- 4:07Speaker 3: It has to be somebody that can articulate like he did,
- 4:10Speaker 3: not just get into debates and argue and throw out
- 4:15Speaker 3: all kinds of sayings. He I mean, he believed in
- 4:18Speaker 3: what he said, and he could sit when he could
- 4:21Speaker 3: invite people to talk to him and argue with him
- 4:24Speaker 3: and give their point, and he was very effective at that.
- 4:27Speaker 3: And it's going to be difficult to find somebody that.
- 4:31Speaker 3: But I think they need somebody as quickly as possible
- 4:34Speaker 3: that can continue putting the message out there.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Tim, Thank you. I appreciate that. That's exactly what I'm
- 4:39Speaker 1: looking for. Ben Shapiro said he's thinking of getting back
- 4:43Speaker 1: at getting onto college campuses. I will tell you right now,
- 4:46Speaker 1: as much as I respect and admire Ben, Ben doesn't
- 4:50Speaker 1: know Jesus as his Lord and savior. To my knowledge,
- 4:53Speaker 1: he does not acknowledge Christ as his Lord and savior.
- 4:56Speaker 1: He is a Jew, and that's fine, there's nothing wrong
- 4:59Speaker 1: with that. But I believe the person filling that role
- 5:02Speaker 1: has to be a Jesus Christ apologist, someone who knows
- 5:07Speaker 1: the Gospel message, because that is woven through everything that
- 5:11Speaker 1: Charlie believed, every part of Turning Point USA. Let's go
- 5:15Speaker 1: to Patricia. Thanks for calling in. Patricia.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Hey, Christen, I couldn't agree with you and the prayer
- 5:21Speaker 4: caller more. I do think they need to get somebody
- 5:24Speaker 4: in there. I do think it needs to be exactly
- 5:26Speaker 4: the type of person we're talking about, but my thought
- 5:29Speaker 4: is that's going to take a little while. I think
- 5:31Speaker 4: they need to go with this momentum. I too, am
- 5:35Speaker 4: now a donor to Turning Point USA. I didn't really
- 5:38Speaker 4: know a lot about it until all this happened, and
- 5:42Speaker 4: I think they need to go with the momentum. I
- 5:45Speaker 4: think they need to go have big rallies, big big
- 5:49Speaker 4: rallies like what Trump did his first time out. I
- 5:52Speaker 4: went to some of those rallies and they were so inspiring,
- 5:55Speaker 4: and you know, everybody was really excited and they could
- 5:59Speaker 4: get a lot of really good speakers and have big
- 6:02Speaker 4: rallies to get all of us, not just college students,
- 6:05Speaker 4: all of us supporting them and behind them so people
- 6:09Speaker 4: can see what good it is.
- 6:12Speaker 1: I like it. Patricia. Thank you, you're kind of going
- 6:15Speaker 1: down the direction I'm thinking only I have more specifics
- 6:19Speaker 1: in mind. I'm going to get to those, but I
- 6:21Speaker 1: want to hear from you. What should Turning Point USA do?
- 6:25Speaker 1: Eight five zero two zero five to b Fla, George,
- 6:28Speaker 1: good morning pressing.
- 6:30Speaker 2: First of all, I think you made the one hundred
- 6:32Speaker 2: percent right decision on the direction of the show this morning.
- 6:35Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I'm glad you did that. But I think the Turning
- 6:39Speaker 2: Point needs to go on a full out blitz. Yes,
- 6:43Speaker 2: And I mean just like eleven man blitz that the
- 6:47Speaker 2: Packers used to run back in the day. And I mean,
- 6:54Speaker 2: and what I would do is my response statement. I
- 6:58Speaker 2: would say, y'all assassinated Charlie Kirk not because he spoke,
- 7:05Speaker 2: but because the young people listened and they voted accordingly.
- 7:09Speaker 2: And you have just woken up tens of millions of
- 7:12Speaker 2: young voters. And that's what I feel. They didn't kill
- 7:17Speaker 2: him because he spoke, He they killed him because so
- 7:21Speaker 2: many young people listened and responded.
- 7:24Speaker 1: It's a well put statement and sentiment. Georgia, as always,
- 7:27Speaker 1: thanks very much for the phone call. Let's go to
- 7:29Speaker 1: Dodge Dodge. What do you think?
- 7:32Speaker 5: Yeah, so, you know, I really think Turning Point needs
- 7:35Speaker 5: to take a play out of the playbook of the Left.
- 7:38Speaker 5: And let's say they raise a couple of hundred million
- 7:41Speaker 5: dollars two hudred million bucks. Because of everybody you know
- 7:45Speaker 5: is at event doing that, they need to go and
- 7:47Speaker 5: earmark about two million dollars per college. Just pick a
- 7:52Speaker 5: top hundred colleges and build a building with the two
- 7:57Speaker 5: million called the Charlie Kirk School of it will discourse,
- 8:01Speaker 5: and let that be a permanent monument so all these
- 8:05Speaker 5: little snibbling brats can actually learn.
- 8:07Speaker 6: How to talk to each other.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Wow, on campus if permitted, because a lot of universities
- 8:15Speaker 1: wouldn't do it, or near campus.
- 8:18Speaker 5: No, you donate to the campus ear marking this money
- 8:22Speaker 5: will be used to build a building.
- 8:24Speaker 6: The Left does it all the time.
- 8:26Speaker 5: Here's two million bucks. You got to build a building
- 8:28Speaker 5: and name it after Charlie Kirk.
- 8:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I hear you. I like the kernel of the
- 8:35Speaker 1: idea My concern is there are too many university presidents
- 8:39Speaker 1: and boards of trustees that would not that would not
- 8:42Speaker 1: accept the gift. They wouldn't accept the ear marked designated
- 8:45Speaker 1: gift in that fashion. You are not letting me down.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Well done, Keep coming strong ideas. What should Turning Point
- 8:55Speaker 1: USA be doing in response to what happened? What should
- 9:00Speaker 1: their next act be? What should they move towards? We're
- 9:05Speaker 1: getting some wonderful ideas, Jason, thanks for calling in.
- 9:09Speaker 5: Good morning, Preston.
- 9:11Speaker 7: I think that they should take the move out of
- 9:15Speaker 7: the Rush limbo playbook big shoes to fill. It's like Rush.
- 9:21Speaker 7: How they have Clay and Buck definitely needs to be
- 9:25Speaker 7: christ based. Use what works. When Rush went to be
- 9:29Speaker 7: Home with Jesus claim Buck had to fill those shoes,
- 9:32Speaker 7: and that playbook design is working. And I think that
- 9:38Speaker 7: they could learn something from that and get with the
- 9:40Speaker 7: Rush crew and see what they did to fill his shoes.
- 9:44Speaker 1: Okay, thank you, Jason, I appreciate it. I'm not sure
- 9:47Speaker 1: I share your thought that it worked. I don't think
- 9:50Speaker 1: Clay and Buck is successful. It's to me a placeholder,
- 9:56Speaker 1: but I get your point. But thank you very much.
- 10:02Speaker 1: This is all about ideas here we're going to take
- 10:04Speaker 1: three more callers. Uh, Danny, you're up. What's your thought?
- 10:08Speaker 8: Yeah, good morning, President. You know, my thought is, I
- 10:11Speaker 8: don't think one singular individual is appropriate in terms of replacement,
- 10:17Speaker 8: because I don't think you're going to replace Charlie in
- 10:19Speaker 8: any any former fashion. I think it's going to take
- 10:22Speaker 8: a coalition of individuals that are going to need to
- 10:25Speaker 8: step up and share his ideals and have his his
- 10:29Speaker 8: given ability to communicate and articulate. And you know, I
- 10:34Speaker 8: don't I don't see a single individual filling that role
- 10:37Speaker 8: in the way that Charlie did. That's just kind of
- 10:41Speaker 8: my thoughts on the.
- 10:42Speaker 9: On the on the subject, Danny.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Thanks very much. I appreciate you calling in. Let's go
- 10:46Speaker 1: to Sean.
- 10:47Speaker 9: Sean, e're up, good morning, and I'm going to try
- 10:50Speaker 9: and articulate this is the best I can. I think
- 10:53Speaker 9: that I agree with the last caller. We don't necessarily
- 10:58Speaker 9: are We're not going to be able to replace Charlie.
- 11:00Speaker 9: But we could take the leadership of the organization now,
- 11:03Speaker 9: and I feel like large events would be great, and
- 11:07Speaker 9: I think events close to campuses where we could incorporate
- 11:12Speaker 9: our younger children and not just our college children. Because
- 11:16Speaker 9: and I know some of the conversations that these events
- 11:18Speaker 9: get a little bit you know, heavy for these younger kids.
- 11:22Speaker 9: But my youngest son and my oldest son, I would
- 11:25Speaker 9: go to an event and not only would it help
- 11:28Speaker 9: these children, it would include these parents. So these parents
- 11:31Speaker 9: are involved in helping and understanding their children as well.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Okay, Sean, thank you. I appreciate you calling in and
- 11:38Speaker 1: sharing your ideas. Jeffrey, you are the final caller here.
- 11:41Speaker 2: What do you think, well, presson.
- 11:44Speaker 6: I think they should continue the turn. I mean, this
- 11:48Speaker 6: was the first stop for Charlie's new tour of the
- 11:53Speaker 6: college campuses. There are already speakers lined up. Continue with
- 12:00Speaker 6: program and bring in other selected speakers to well, nobody's
- 12:08Speaker 6: going to replace Charlie, but you know, to fill that
- 12:11Speaker 6: primary robe and continue with what was already in place,
- 12:16Speaker 6: keep that presence on campus, keep the people coming, and
- 12:21Speaker 6: let all the guests that we're going to come do
- 12:24Speaker 6: their speaking and then just use different different individuals to
- 12:31Speaker 6: fill in where Charlie would have been.
- 12:34Speaker 1: Thank you very much, Jeffery, appreciate the phone call. I
- 12:41Speaker 1: need more time. So here's what we're gonna do. We're
- 12:44Speaker 1: gonna take a break I'm going to give you the
- 12:47Speaker 1: latest information on the search for his assassin, and then
- 12:53Speaker 1: I'm going to share what I think I would recommend
- 12:58Speaker 1: Turning Point USA do. And I'm going to borrow from
- 13:01Speaker 1: some of you, maybe enhance it or add to it,
- 13:07Speaker 1: or maybe take a little bit away. But I have
- 13:10Speaker 1: my own set of thoughts on this. I've given this
- 13:12Speaker 1: great thought. That's what led me to this segment. Yesterday's
- 13:16Speaker 1: just praying about Okay, the goal was to shut this down.
- 13:23Speaker 1: The goal, by the way, could be realized in part
- 13:27Speaker 1: by universities saying we're not going to take on the
- 13:29Speaker 1: risk and the liability of having something like this happen
- 13:33Speaker 1: at our school. The problem is going to be they're
- 13:37Speaker 1: gonna have to shut down every public speaker. So I
- 13:41Speaker 1: don't know that universities are going to do that. So
- 13:44Speaker 1: we'll see. Here's what I would do if I were
- 13:47Speaker 1: a Turning Point USA, after thoughtful deliberation and prayer. First
- 13:53Speaker 1: of all, will anybody emerge to be a singular leader,
- 13:58Speaker 1: as Charlie Kirk was, don't know. You know, when you
- 14:07Speaker 1: talk about professional athletes, you hear things said like a
- 14:12Speaker 1: generational talent, they come along once a generation. I think
- 14:19Speaker 1: Charlie Kirk was that. I think Charlie Kirk was a
- 14:21Speaker 1: generational talent with gifts on loan from God. As Rush
- 14:29Speaker 1: Limbaugh used to say, only he would say talent on
- 14:34Speaker 1: loan from God. Charlie definitely was uniquely gifted. Now, having
- 14:40Speaker 1: said that, the first thing I would do is I
- 14:45Speaker 1: would put a pause on the tour, just a pause,
- 14:50Speaker 1: and I would schedule simultaneous events on every campus. You
- 14:56Speaker 1: have a chapter. Every school, you have a chapter. Maybe
- 15:03Speaker 1: it's like the National Day of Prayer, where you start
- 15:05Speaker 1: at noon or at three in the afternoon, or whatever
- 15:10Speaker 1: that time was that Charlie liked to do his events,
- 15:13Speaker 1: and you do a cascade of that through all the
- 15:15Speaker 1: time zones across the country. And here's what you do.
- 15:21Speaker 1: You announce the event and you edit together speeches that
- 15:28Speaker 1: Charlie had given. There's a prodigious amount of audio and
- 15:33Speaker 1: video of Charlie and you have him speaking, you share
- 15:39Speaker 1: the very best, and you put it together in a
- 15:43Speaker 1: one hour, one and a half hour presentation, and you
- 15:46Speaker 1: roll that tape on every single campus with one singular
- 15:52Speaker 1: message going through every single campus. Maybe it's some of
- 15:58Speaker 1: Charlie's debates, Maybe it's some of Charlie's speeches. Maybe it's
- 16:02Speaker 1: some of Charlie's radio program or his TV appearances or
- 16:06Speaker 1: interviews that he did on podcasts. It doesn't matter. You
- 16:10Speaker 1: lace it all together and you present it. And then
- 16:16Speaker 1: you have a spokesman at each of these events that
- 16:20Speaker 1: happened on one day across the country, and you announced
- 16:25Speaker 1: the tour resumes, and as callers have said, you share
- 16:36Speaker 1: that we will have these guests at these locations, and
- 16:39Speaker 1: you just you just do what you do and keep
- 16:44Speaker 1: pushing the envelope. If you have someone that's able to
- 16:48Speaker 1: engage in some of what Charlie did, fine, if someone
- 16:53Speaker 1: rises up to seize the mantle of ministry that I
- 16:57Speaker 1: believe it is fine, but don't force stat but go
- 17:02Speaker 1: at it again, keep going as soon as possible. And then,
- 17:11Speaker 1: to borrow from a listener, raise money to build Charlie
- 17:17Speaker 1: Kirk's Centers of Civil Engagement on every college campus. You
- 17:20Speaker 1: can build them on and if they won't let it
- 17:22Speaker 1: be on the campus, if they won't commit to doing
- 17:24Speaker 1: that kind of program, then build it next to the campus.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Fundamental to all of this is donate to Turning Point USA.
- 17:41Speaker 1: I know from having been involved in fundraising for not
- 17:46Speaker 1: just the years I've done this program, but most of
- 17:49Speaker 1: my adult life. Recurring giving means more. Sure, a one
- 17:55Speaker 1: hundred dollars gift is awesome, but what means more is
- 17:58Speaker 1: twenty five dollars a month consistent, steady, recurring revenue. So
- 18:05Speaker 1: I'm telling you right now I will be giving every
- 18:08Speaker 1: single month to Turning Point USA. I'm going to join
- 18:12Speaker 1: many of you that have already made that decision. I
- 18:15Speaker 1: am going to do that. That's my set of suggestions
