Andrei Stsiapanau's story is absolutely incredible. He was born and raised in Belarus, which was a part of the Soviet Union at the time. As a child, Andrei lived just 70 miles as the crow flies from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, and was only 2 when the worst nuclear disaster in history, both in cost and casualties, struck. At the age of 7, he watched the fall of the Soviet Union. All through elementary and middle school, Andrei had to wear a device that measured and monitored his internal body radiation.
