- 0:26Speaker 1: a cool story on the EVA training camp, there was
- 0:29Speaker 1: a woman, Leslie Pettigo, who said she was standing in
- 0:34Speaker 1: line at Rouse's shout out of course, uh shouts at Rouses.
- 0:40Speaker 1: That's just a coincidence. I promise we do love Rosses
- 0:45Speaker 1: Rowses dot com. Uh. Anyway, She's standing a line at
- 0:49Speaker 1: Ralse's and a man walks up behind her with one item,
- 0:54Speaker 1: and she tells the cashier to let him go since
- 0:57Speaker 1: he only had a bag of shrimp and she had,
- 0:59Speaker 1: you know, apparently a basket full of groceries. Well, she
- 1:07Speaker 1: says that he the man says, hey, ring up all
- 1:11Speaker 1: her groceries. Well, the woman Leslie initially refuses, but then
- 1:15Speaker 1: the man insists and says, my mom taught me to
- 1:18Speaker 1: do good deeds, and I'd like to bless you today.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Please don't take that blessing from me. Well, that man
- 1:24Speaker 1: is Saints' rookie defensive lineman, Christian Miller. What an awesome story.
- 1:31Speaker 1: So Pettigo post on Facebook the photo of she and
- 1:36Speaker 1: Miller and wrote to the New Orleans Saints, you didn't
- 1:41Speaker 1: just draft an athlete. You drafted a young man of character.
- 1:44Speaker 1: And to Mama Miller, thank you. Thank you for raising
- 1:46Speaker 1: the son who understands that true strength is shown through humility, generosity,
- 1:49Speaker 1: and faith. Your words clearly stayed with him, and because
- 1:52Speaker 1: of that, a complete stranger went home reminded that there's
- 1:54Speaker 1: still so much good in this world. Thank you for
- 1:56Speaker 1: your kindness. You reminded me that there are still good
- 1:59Speaker 1: people in this world. How about that? How about a
- 2:01Speaker 1: big round a plaus for Christian Miller? Love that it's great.
- 2:04Speaker 1: I'm a babe and so true. My dad taught me
- 2:08Speaker 1: that lesson a long time ago, about not about being
- 2:12Speaker 1: but about being willing to accept other people's generosity because
- 2:17Speaker 1: it's a way to receive God's grace. And so if
- 2:19Speaker 1: someone's trying to do something nice for you, and you
- 2:21Speaker 1: would sast no, no, no, no, Well then you're denying them
- 2:23Speaker 1: the opportunity to receive God's grace through that blessing. So
- 2:27Speaker 1: I tell you, very candidly on a personal note, something
- 2:30Speaker 1: that I had to learn, a lesson I had to
- 2:32Speaker 1: learn when Drew was sick, our son, and I realized
- 2:36Speaker 1: this is Drew just turned twelve. So there's a lot
- 2:38Speaker 1: of people who maybe listened to the show or found
- 2:40Speaker 1: the show, weren't aware of that. But we spent nine
- 2:43Speaker 1: months in the hospital in Houston, Texas when Drew was born,
- 2:47Speaker 1: and every day there would we would get cards in
- 2:51Speaker 1: the mail, prayer cards, total strangers who would just send
- 2:55Speaker 1: send us checks in the mail to the hospital to
- 2:58Speaker 1: help support our young family. You know, going through a
- 3:02Speaker 1: life altering thing, and you learn how amazing people really are,
- 3:10Speaker 1: how generous and good people are at their core. So
- 3:13Speaker 1: God bless And it may seem like there's just a
- 3:15Speaker 1: guy buying a lady groceries, but so much more than
- 3:19Speaker 1: that because of what it says about him, and just'd
- 3:23Speaker 1: be nice to people, man, Just be nice to people.
- 3:25Speaker 1: If you can't buy someone's groceries, that's okay. Hold a door,
- 3:28Speaker 1: smile at somebody say hello, that's awesome. Good for you,
- 3:30Speaker 1: Christian Miller, that's all. That's awesome. It's interesting because that
- 3:36Speaker 1: story came on the heels of me wanting to do this,
- 3:40Speaker 1: which was to talk about some of the impact newcomers
- 3:44Speaker 1: for the Saints as they get ready for training camp.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Because there was a piece of ESPN with summertime lists.
- 3:51Speaker 1: They did the top fifty newcomers and there were three
- 3:53Speaker 1: Saints on it that Jordan Tyson at twenty seven, Travis
- 3:56Speaker 1: h n at forty seven, and then David Edwards at fifty,
- 3:59Speaker 1: And those are probably the right answers. I mean, Jordan
- 4:02Speaker 1: Tyson was a top ten pick, explosive wide receiver. Travis
- 4:05Speaker 1: Achen was your high priced free agent acquisition. You spend
- 4:08Speaker 1: over fifty million dollars on him, and then David Edwards. Look,
- 4:13Speaker 1: you had to fix the interior of your offensive line.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Eric McCoy is healthy and Edwards is now there to
- 4:18Speaker 1: four to five left guard, you get your bookend tackles.
- 4:20Speaker 1: Caesar Ruiz continues to be the weak link, but you
- 4:22Speaker 1: should be good at four of the five spots. So
- 4:24Speaker 1: I mean, those are the right ones. But I started
- 4:26Speaker 1: thinking about the others, and like Kayden Nellis comes to
- 4:29Speaker 1: mind for me naturally because you're talking about a guy
- 4:34Speaker 1: that's brought in to replace to Mario Davis, who was
- 4:37Speaker 1: the heartbeat of your team. I mean it was not
- 4:39Speaker 1: only the most productive player, you're leading tackler, but also
- 4:43Speaker 1: your emotional leader. Has been here since twenty eighteen, so
- 4:46Speaker 1: to Mario Davis leaving leaves a giant void that kay
- 4:49Speaker 1: Nellis has to fill. But I'm so when I look
- 4:52Speaker 1: at all the additions, though Christian Miller, I think is
- 4:56Speaker 1: one that could be just fast eight to see how
- 5:01Speaker 1: this develops here in this training camp, because we've talked
- 5:05Speaker 1: a lot about the veterans who maybe are going to
- 5:09Speaker 1: be fighting for a job in this camp, and it
- 5:13Speaker 1: can be a young veteran like Kendre Miller who certainly
- 5:20Speaker 1: coming off the torn acl and has that three underwhelming
- 5:22Speaker 1: seasons or is entering this third season now is it
- 5:27Speaker 1: has a lot to prove and has to make this
- 5:30Speaker 1: team with h in coming in, re signing Alvin Kamara,
- 5:34Speaker 1: and then some of the young guys who performed exceptionally
- 5:37Speaker 1: well at the end of last season, like Aldrich Estimy,
- 5:41Speaker 1: and then you've got Devin Neil coming back for his
- 5:45Speaker 1: second season. But I look at de Von Gotshaw as
- 5:48Speaker 1: another one, and I hate to say that because he's
- 5:51Speaker 1: an LSU guy, and we all want the best for
- 5:53Speaker 1: the LSU guys and want him to do well and
- 5:56Speaker 1: play well and be awesome, you know, But when I
- 5:59Speaker 1: look at the season he had last year, you Gotshaw's
- 6:04Speaker 1: a guy now who's been in the league since he
- 6:08Speaker 1: was drafted in twenty seventeen, and this past year in
- 6:13Speaker 1: twenty twenty five coming to New Orleans was his second
- 6:17Speaker 1: lowest defensive grade according to PFF. In his in his
- 6:21Speaker 1: entire going back to twenty seventeen, his overall defensive grade
- 6:24Speaker 1: was a fifty point five. It was his lowest run
- 6:30Speaker 1: defense grade of his entire career at forty seven point five.
- 6:33Speaker 1: So you're talking about a big dude that's playing the
- 6:35Speaker 1: three four nos at six three, three thirty and had
- 6:40Speaker 1: his worst season as an interior run defender, and the
- 6:45Speaker 1: four hundred and fifty five snaps he played this past
- 6:48Speaker 1: year are the lowest that he played in his career
- 6:52Speaker 1: when he played a full season. Now, in the COVID year,
- 6:55Speaker 1: he played just one hundred and seventy two snaps, there
- 6:57Speaker 1: was injury, there was COVID, But aside from that, the
- 7:01Speaker 1: four hundred and fifty five snaps he played last year
- 7:03Speaker 1: for New Orleans are the lowest of his career, not
- 7:05Speaker 1: say COVID year notwithstanding. So I look at Gotshaw and
- 7:11Speaker 1: I look at a ten year vet at a position
- 7:14Speaker 1: where man the Cavalry's coming behind him. They drafted Vernon
- 7:20Speaker 1: brought in a year ago out of Texas, and he
- 7:22Speaker 1: missed the season due to injury. But remember, Vernon Broughton
- 7:25Speaker 1: is a big defensive lineman who played at Texas under
- 7:28Speaker 1: Bo Davis. That's Saints defensive line coach Bo Davis. So
- 7:31Speaker 1: they drafted a guy that Bo Davis is very familiar with.
- 7:35Speaker 1: You still got Brian Burzy hanging around, former first round pick.
- 7:40Speaker 1: You got Zavian Harris, who we talked about earlier is
- 7:43Speaker 1: going to start the season on the non football injury
- 7:44Speaker 1: list from an injury he had in college. But he's
- 7:47Speaker 1: six's eight, three point thirty. And that's the guy that
- 7:50Speaker 1: butt four the off the field stuff. Might have been
- 7:52Speaker 1: a top fifty pick in this draft. And then there's Miller,
- 7:56Speaker 1: the guy they did use a second round pick on.
- 8:00Speaker 1: And you go draft Christian Miller out of Georgia, which,
- 8:04Speaker 1: by the way, I don't know if you noticed today,
- 8:06Speaker 1: Jalen Carter, out of Georgia's same defense, just became the
- 8:08Speaker 1: highest paid defensive line in an NFL history. I'm not
- 8:12Speaker 1: sitting here trying to suggest that's the expectation we should
- 8:14Speaker 1: have for Christian Miller, but come at that position, coming
- 8:17Speaker 1: out of that defense, transitioning into the NFL. Should he
- 8:20Speaker 1: be able to play right away as a second round pick?
- 8:22Speaker 1: All right? So I get why we're gonna talk about
- 8:25Speaker 1: Jordan Tyson, and we should. He's a top ten pick
- 8:27Speaker 1: and we're expecting it to be explosive. And I get
- 8:29Speaker 1: why we're gonna talk about Travis hen He's a thousand
- 8:31Speaker 1: yard rusher of the Saint Stunket running the football a
- 8:33Speaker 1: year ago and they paid him fifty four million bucks
- 8:35Speaker 1: and we should. And I get why we're gonna talk
- 8:37Speaker 1: about David Edwards because you were bad on the offensive
- 8:39Speaker 1: line and you went fortified it with a veteran guy
- 8:41Speaker 1: made him. You know, he was the top guard signed
- 8:43Speaker 1: in this free agent class. But man, when you talk
- 8:48Speaker 1: about camp for me, when you're looking at the fifty
- 8:51Speaker 1: three roster spots. Generally, going into a camp, there might
- 8:54Speaker 1: be single digit spots available because all those guys I
- 8:57Speaker 1: just mentioned Tyson and Ahen and Edwards and and go
- 9:00Speaker 1: to a lobby and go to the list guys who
- 9:02Speaker 1: you know have a roster spot. They've made the team.
- 9:06Speaker 1: So you look for the eight to ten spots that
- 9:08Speaker 1: could be up for grabs. And I think a veteran
- 9:11Speaker 1: like Devine Gotshaw has a lot to prove in camp,
- 9:13Speaker 1: because boy, when you look at Miller and Broughton and
- 9:15Speaker 1: Brazil and Harris, all those guys behind him, you may
- 9:18Speaker 1: not have a room for all of them. Let's keep
- 9:19Speaker 1: an eye on Christian Miller here in training campus. They
- 9:22Speaker 1: get started on Wednesday,
