- Scott Brandt: But the other thing we run into though is that a lot of times leaders may be listening to too many voices. And so a little of that overwhelm also comes into play of trying to lay every step out and then hit each step and then trying to count for every variable, which is a very hard task to do. So it's interesting when we look at people that get very overwhelmed and as leaders, it's a very interesting thing when leaders get overwhelmed when trying to make decisions. Welcome back to Together We Are Stronger, Leadership Shade, No Chasers. And we've talked about the concept and the idea of creating clarity and with clarity that creates a filter system that you're able to run things through. And so by having your filter system, you end up reducing that overwhelm when it comes to making decisions. But the other thing we run into though is that a lot of times leaders may be listening to too many voices. And so that also comes into play with the circle with your tribe. who you have in there and we've talked about that tribe that you create really six people max, I would say. So that way you don't have too many voices taking place in there giving their perspective, their ideas, because with your tribe that is the circle that you really trust that you can bounce ideas off of. But you also get to the fact that a lot of times leaders try to hit every variable before they start. And so a little of that overwhelm also comes into play of trying to lay every step out and then hit each step and then trying to count for every variable, which is a very hard task to do. And so George, when you look at like leaders that get overwhelmed in that team culture and people that are around them, what is that energy that you see when leaders are overwhelmed and they don't know how to filter and create clarity for themselves? Big G: in every single possible way. And sometimes we care. Scott Brandt: You might have to go back a little bit because you're muted so... Like the last fifteen seconds, you're good now. Um, but... Big G: Sorry about that. Hello everyone. here's a good answer to question is a lot of leaders, including me at the times, you carry way too much. You're trying to be perfect on everything that you do. And what happens is that you lose You just lose the idea of what you're trying to create. Now you're worried about so much to be perfect, carrying everything on your back, on your shoulders, trying to make the perfect move. And the problem there is, is that you lose momentum on what you're trying to do. And you just can't be perfect at it. And that's why at times as leaders, including myself, I could tell you stories and being overwhelmed. you talk to somebody who owns a business, who's a leader, entrepreneur, you get really overwhelmed to a point to get excited. Because things are not working. You're trying to do everything you possibly can. And you've got to take one day at a time. But also you've got to lean on people who you could. place in your tribe and in your employees because when you try to carry the whole thing on your shoulders it can fall apart and you have no control of it because you're trying to be perfect you're trying to do everything you can you're not releasing and that's the problem you're juggling too many priorities and it's creating this Scott Brandt: Thanks. Big G: this moment of invisible wave that will take you down. And you've got to take control of what you're doing. Scott Brandt: kind of interesting because we've talked about this book 10x is easier than 2x and It is a very interesting aspect when you look at a lot of leaders that they Think 10x is harder than 2x because when you think about it the numbers tends larger than 2 So the issue you run into is a lot of times you have such linear thinking that that also creates overwhelm because You are trying to just keep things afloat and better just a little bit But if you look in the book 10x is easier than 2x 10x is going to those areas that you're like this is crazy, but By doing that, you're going to take more action. You're going to embrace the aspect of failure, but also it comes into play of knowing what your strengths are and then the things that don't suit you and that don't help you out. Don't drive you you want to hand those off to others that can really take that on so It's the idea that we talk about know your strengths working within your strengths And then the weakness is you have to give those to somebody else that their strengths complement your weaknesses I think we the issue because I used to do called planning for families And the big push was, you need to improve on the ACT to have, or SAT to have high scores because that's one of the factors that colleges look at. But the issue is if you are working on an area that's a weakness and all you're doing is going from a weakness to being mediocre in that area, and that's not going to do you any good. And so in the world and whatnot, you really want to thrive and stay within your strengths. But because we have these things of oh, mate, you gotta work on your weaknesses and you gotta bring those up to a mediocre level, you don't do a, you do a disservice to too many people by doing that. You do a disservice to yourself. And so that's where, as you're building, and I think a lot of times too, you get leaders that are overwhelmed because they are in a realm that is not their strength. And so by trying to operate in a realm that you're not strong in, you're going to be very overwhelmed because it's a weakness. And a lot of times with the weakness, we want to try to stay away from that. But it also goes back to the aspect of like what we talked about last episode of asking for help. And so that's where constructing your team that inner circle, you find people that compliment your weaknesses with their strengths. And that is hard to do because people let their ego get in the way and then they hold themselves back. And so it is one of those things that you just got to let it go. But people don't want to do that because if you do that, that's a potential sign of weakness. And as leaders, business owners, For whatever reason a lot of people don't want to show a sign of weakness because they believe that's gonna do more harm than good for them so it is one of these double-edged swords that People don't realize and if you don't tap into this You're the reason you're stuck Big G: I mean, let's talk about this one. My wife tells me your ego is not your amigo because it causes you so much and not just, you know, in the business in your mind. And when you are the are you are entrepreneur and you are the leader of your company and when you are juggling way too much. guess what you lose the trusted instinct that's built inside you because when you're juggling you're doing everything you can great you know I love when people just You try to do so much on multi-talented, right? I used say that all the time. No, you're not multi-talented. You've got to do time management. And a lot of times people get emotionally drained. And that's where the break did. That's where you get overwhelmed. know, someone asks you a question, you snap on that individual because you're at that edge. And what Scott Brandt: of how bad it gets. Big G: happens is that Honestly, you lack stillness. And what I mean by that, that when you're 100 Scott Brandt: you Big G: miles an hour and you're trying to do everything you can, you're not even taking a breath to really see and step back and see what's going on. You lose that stillness and blunt you. Scott Brandt: Step back and see what's going on. You release that skill and Big G: and you're not really thinking straight, excuse me, straight. You're not, because what you're trying to do is you're trying to be perfect on everything. You're trying to make sure you get everything going on and everything else. And a lot of times, and I wrote down this, I Scott Brandt: you're not really thinking straight. Because what you're trying to do is perfect on everything. You're to make sure that everything is going on. Big G: wrote down some here, I'll sit right here. When your predictions, when you predict your outcomes, Scott Brandt: So you are trying to Big G: You're not you're not instead of managing the moment. So you are trying to protect outcome when you're not managing your moment. You're not embracing what you're doing and you're losing you're losing ground. You're losing you're losing everything underneath your feet. And I've been there, done that. And I can say it's it's, you know, you think you've got everything under control, right? Owner and Scott Brandt: But I can say it, know, got everything under control right now. You Big G: If I do something wrong, everyone's going to look at me differently. Screw that crap. Do what's right for you. Do what's right for your company, right? And the people around you Scott Brandt: got water, you got walls, and it's going to be much more easier do that. Do what's right for you. Do what's right for you. I said it for you. Big G: who are trusting in the people that are there to help you out. Because if not, you have people going to leave you. People don't want to be around that. you know, take control where you can take control. Scott Brandt: It's over. Big G: And don't overwhelm yourself. Scott Brandt: Make Big G: Make decisions clearly, be still so you think clearly as Scott Brandt: decisions clearly. Big G: well. Scott Brandt: So you're getting value from this video hit that like button, let's see here that that's funky there But yeah, I think it's a thumbs up on YouTube. So hit that like button if you're getting value from this video so it's it's an interesting thing because I've talked about the working genius and that assessment which I highly suggest people take a look into the crater of the working genius assessment said a lot of times people don't exactly know what that working genius is for them. And so they're operating in areas that burn them out and that stress them out. But they keep doing it because people are like, you're very talented at that. And it's just because nobody want to do it. So they jumped into it and you end up hurting yourself. And so some of this comes into not truly knowing who you are as an individual. and being in positions that don't suit you. So there are business owners, there are leaders out there that they should not be business owners. They should not be leaders because they just don't have the person. They don't have the personality. They don't have the drive, but they've created that business. And so because they had the idea, they created the business. like, I'm a business owner. Yes, I understand you created that. That was an idea of yours, but you might not be the person that's supposed to fit that role. And so you need to know who you are. But a lot of people don't have that idea. They don't truly know who they are as an individual and they're doing a disservice to everyone. So that may be sad and that may hurt some people. But the thing is not everybody can be a leader. And so there have to be people that support the leader. And so it's the idea that there's a book, Rocket Fuel, where you have individuals that dream big, but then you need the support system to have people come in to put more fuel on the fire to drive Big G: Yes. Scott Brandt: it forward. And that's the same thing with the Working Genius assessment is you need people in those certain areas. There's, I think one's called Galvanizer. And those are the people that want to cheer everybody on and say, come on, come on, everybody, let's go, let's push this over. I'm at the point now where if you cannot light a fire under your own ass, I am not going to sit here and cheer you on and say, you can do it. No, that's not me. I will go find somebody that is going to be that role to do that. And so that type of direction here. It's gonna make some people sad which is okay people need to be sad and they need to do a deep dive and say okay Yeah, I need to figure this out because if I don't It's going to get worse Big G: Well, absolutely right. you know, you can't really pat yourself on the back when your mind's going 100 miles an hour. The one thing I say, and I wish I had this knife, open my business in the 80s, as I shh, and it wasn't that big, business coach. And if you had a business coach, just imagine you asked someone just step with you side by side. walk with you, help you out, not take over your business, but kind of guide you the way you need to do. A lot of times, we don't think that way. We want to be entrepreneurs, want to be big bosses, want to do all this, but we're not really sitting down and taking the time. And sometimes, your friends not what I'm talking about. You need to find someone who's really not biased, who's just with you and says, you know, that's great. Nope, wouldn't do it that way. do it this way and someone who will just sit there and guide you because when you are getting frustrated and you're losing momentum Scott Brandt: Peace. Big G: you're getting overwhelmed and a lot of times you don't understand Scott Brandt: Thanks for watching! Big G: you've got to simplify your decisions and what I mean by that you've got to strip down what's important nothing else what really matters to you and your business. Stop worrying about everyone outside, right? You got to stop that because all you're doing is that you're not really working with yourself. You're trying to please everybody. We had an episode of that. Stop trying to please everyone. Focus on what you need to do. Strip down on it. Take a look at what's overwhelming you. Strip it down and find out what's happening. I mean, that's really number one. Number two is that you need to lean on the people who are there Scott Brandt: gotta stop that. That's part of beauty. It's not your non-building. What you let yourself, you try to reach up and you can't. And that was so difficult. It's about trying to focus on what you're doing. You strip down, take a look at what's over, what are you doing. And you have to what's happening. That's really the goal of coming to you. Is that you need be in the of the meeting. Big G: for That includes your top salesperson, someone that is there for you no matter what, your tribe, Scott Brandt: a top-scaled person. I don't want that. I'm just their faith, no matter what, try. Big G: your group of people that are truly successful. You've got to focus on those things. And you got to use the three second rule. If you can't make a decision that is clear minded, you got to move on because you're going to sit there. What if what happens if it does? What if they do this? You're going to lose traction. And I mean it. And the number one I would say is going to say no. If there's an idea what's going on in your mind and you know it's not a good idea, you gotta tell yourself, What about people around you? No, I'm not going that way. Because you want to do, honestly, you want to do the right thing. And people don't, you know, don't get that and trust your experience. Scott Brandt: There's Big G: If you're going down the road, you're not too sure. That's when a coach kicks in that, know what? I'm going to hire someone to kind of adventure off of the new style of the business. I'm going to add them up to it. And getting a business coach really doesn't know really much about who you are. do but when you sit down with them they figure out a plan they listen they know where you're all at you need to find someone who you don't know who really just looking for to help you grow your business and you you pay for them to do that but they're not looking at the end truly success that's Scott Brandt: It's really success. Big G: what they want Scott Brandt: So if you're looking for these type of videos, don't forget to the subscribe button hit the bell icon On top of that so that way when new videos drop you get notified I honestly the thing you have to ask is what are you? doing in regards to Having a lack of clarity and what are you doing to enhance your clarity? To make sure you can filter items to filter ideas so that way you don't have the overwhelm but if you don't have the clarity that goes back to reverse engineering what is the big picture what is what are you trying to accomplish and then work your way down in regards to those steps that you can take to that bigger picture so it is an interesting thing george because you had highlighted the three second rule but the item that we have to be mindful about is it depends on the level of action whatever it is so if you're slow to make a decision on a very small action a very small thing that can quickly decide on then that's going to hurt yourself, but if it's a bigger thing and That's where you have to map it out and kind of look and say okay Where is this playing into where is this going? And so that is one thing that you have to be mindful of on quick decisions and then decisions that take a little bit longer just because those bigger decisions need some time. But you don't want to have a lot of time in regards to letting that just sit there. You have to make a decision and go with it and understand that you could have multiple outcomes. But you can't you're one person so you can't go multiple ways. So you have to make that decision and dive into head right into it and whatever happens happens if you fell you fell if you succeed then you succeed but you can't Question and say well if I would have done this this is what would happen. That's great But you're only one person so you have to decide Rich outcome is gonna best serve you and that can be tough too because you're like, well, I don't want to look silly That don't mean anything if you fail you fail if you make a mistake you make a mistake You've got to decide and dive into it. So that way you keep moving forward Big G: Every question is different when you try to answer it. And the thing about it is, is stop trying to find canceling in crowds. Get counseling with the individual, stop trying to go to a crowd and try to see what everyone else says. And also give yourself grace. You know, there's a lot of weight on us as lawyers. I think a lot of times we try to take it all and bear it all. And then we don't have an outlet. is is that we carry all old failure to great and new decisions and sometimes that puts a dent and what you're trying to do is it's like carrying the torch and you're taking that torch to all your failures and bringing into a new decision where Scott Brandt: like a caravan torch and you're taking that torch for all your failures. Big G: you think that's gonna happen and a lot of times it will fail Scott Brandt: you Big G: anyhow You gotta operate from, and I hate to say this word, I wrote this down, you gotta operate from a scarcity mindset, not so a strategy. A fear of loss and judgment shrinks your confidence. And a lot of times people, leaders, we don't wanna go down that way. Scott Brandt: I wrote this map that I've worked with for a few years. I saw the status of the fair cost, judgment, turnship coffins. A lot of times people, leaders, we don't want to go down that Big G: Let's do it this way. works. Well, sometimes having a great idea and having someone new in it creates Scott Brandt: road. But this is biggest thing that works. Sometimes we play like them and have so much to do. Big G: a new momentum to make things happen. And in a lot, stop comparing yourself to other leaders. Stop trying to take their decisions and put it in your company. Again, bring someone in to Scott Brandt: someone else. Big G: help you grow your business, not destroy your business because you listen to someone. And you know, a lot of times, Scott, all the times I stopped back, businesses and all the different things could have done, should have done whatever. You look back and as we do this podcast, I realize Scott Brandt: how do you do this part? Big G: that I put a lot of weight on my shoulders, a ton. And there's times that honestly you Scott Brandt: I can't talk Big G: just go somewhere, sit in a parking lot, like, Lord, what do do? Because I can't talk to anybody because you're afraid that someone might say something. We'll talk about you and you when you don't have that release that's really in the frustration really kicks in and I'm telling you guys by doing Scott Brandt: you Big G: this podcast allows me to release all the different things that I've met all the different things that Scott Brandt: All the different things that I think. All the different things that, Big G: And that's like I said, you know, don't let your, you know, your ego, it's not your ego is not your best. mean, I'll tell you that right now Scott Brandt: the last thing I'd like to say, I'm going to cheer you, you know, let you go. Just not, know, let you go is not your best thing. Big G: because you lose all the time. Setback. Take a look at what you're doing. Take a breather. Scott Brandt: So that is the work of it. Big G: And you just kind of chip away. Move forward, find the people who help. And a lot of times, the hook home will be very worth it. Scott Brandt: and check the way. Find the people that are helping you. And a lot of times, okay, you're very working. I think a lot of times people think that of this boss building on themselves. Big G: think a lot of times people just put that responsibility on themselves and the weight is just too much, way too much. Scott Brandt: Yeah, I say that if you're you're struggling with that that you feel as if you have nobody then you really need to audit your circle because that's why you have your tribe that's why you your circle and If you have that feeling then that means the circle that you think you have is not the right circle because ultimately It's gotta have those people because we're social creatures. We're meant to do life together. We're not meant to be Superman and be in our fortress of solitude because that doesn't do any good for us. So that's the thing is if you are feeling that way and you're like, don't know who I can talk to. don't have anybody to talk to. You need to go do an audit and really look and say, okay, where am I wrong in regards to the people that I have within that tribe within my circle. So it's a very interesting thing on that one. But you had highlighted too that if you're operating from a scarcity mindset then you're always going to lose because your brain is a problem-solving machine and so if you have the scarcity of thoughts and the questions your brain is going to find answers and so that's where you have to be open to looking at different things. It may have worked before but We also have people that are operating with outdated systems, outdated thoughts and beliefs that don't serve anybody anymore because they're scared to make adjustments. They're scared to get rid of what worked before and try something new. And so if you have that issue, you're not doing yourself any good because you're probably losing ground and you're missing out and other people are overtaking you because of working with outdated systems and thoughts, beliefs. And so that's where you have to have that open-mindedness to look and receive and let go and not be scared to try something new because if you don't, you're just setting yourself up for a very long suffering failure piece. Big G: And to add to, and there's a bright side to all of this, but add to it, when you, you gotta add communication boundaries to everything around you. And what that means is without boundaries, everything lands on your plate. So when you're doing your business, line up boundaries. you have to do because if you don't do that you're gonna get so overwhelmed and you when you're listening to others that everyone has different you know options and everything you get this conflict feedback you get internally overwhelmed and so I when I sit there I made decisions on you you've got it one thing that's got me tonight You gotta have clarity. You gotta go back to the basics. When you feel like you're overwhelmed and you just don't know what to do, take a step back. And even if it's the weekend too, we gotta recreate something and pull the people who are important into your business and say, okay, this is what we're doing, this is where we're at. And I gotta get myself better or get the company better. Pull in your team again. Scott Brandt: Again, we're coming. Pay attention. Big G: When you're not sharing and you got this team, they're willing to Scott Brandt: Again, we're not sharing. Definitely, we're not Big G: help. But if you're not in there being a team player, being the manager of your team, there's no one going to help you out. You're going to be alone. And it's just a simple way to have clarity, grow, smoke, fly, and breathe. telling you guys, you know, I've been to the islands, so many times I figured out my own island. What am I going to talk to? Well, you have us and you find your tribe and have clarity, have vision, take action. Scott Brandt: you need to find the drive and worry about this and take action. Big G: And do not worry if you've got a great team member, share with them what your vision is. and maybe they have something Scott Brandt: It'll be awesome. Big G: that can really have a breakthrough. That's what I would say on this topic. Scott Brandt: That's what I was selling on the internet. Big G: It's something that people need to adjust. I put this latest aside, we're not adjusting. not you or you're be standing still in the water trying to figure out what to do and all you're is spinning around in It's not fun. Scott Brandt: Yeah, I think it ultimately goes back to clarity and that's the starting point and that's why when we started the podcast that was the first episode we Launched with and that's because that's the foundational piece that a lot of people miss And then with a lack of clarity, you don't have the filter system to run anything through. So if you are a true leader and you call yourself a leader, share this with somebody that is overwhelmed and is trying to make every decision and help them really fine tune this and say, OK, here you go. Make this decision. Dive into it and move forward. If you you fail. If you succeed, you succeed. but that's where you either have the wins or you have the ability to learn and grow from. So other than that, we appreciate you allowing us to be part of this journey. Thank you for coming on this journey with us and we'll catch you on the next episode.
