- 0:05Speaker 1: It's a La La Kent, motherfucker. We're back with a
- 0:09Speaker 1: brand new episode of my brand new podcast, Give them
- 0:13Speaker 1: La La hurry it Hello.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I know guess who.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Guess who it's Jess, just like a Walter. Oh my god,
- 0:22Speaker 1: what a freaking amazing weekend.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Tell me about it because I haven't heard about it yet.
- 0:27Speaker 1: I just live for ocean. Kent. You have no idea,
- 0:31Speaker 1: Like you do have an idea because you're here every day, right,
- 0:34Speaker 1: But my daughter is a baby genius. That's just period.
- 0:40Speaker 1: No one can argue with me. I'll say to her, like,
- 0:43Speaker 1: I started doing this thing where I'm like, mama and
- 0:46Speaker 1: I point at myself, loves ocean, and then I point
- 0:49Speaker 1: at her. So now every time I say mama loves
- 0:51Speaker 1: she points at herself, or she'll point at me and
- 0:55Speaker 1: then point at herself. When I'm like, it's the cutest thing.
- 0:59Speaker 1: She shows me that she's one.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Oh she dies.
- 1:02Speaker 1: Yes, I haven't seen that yet. I know she waves
- 1:07Speaker 1: at everybody. She waves at everyone, and when people don't
- 1:09Speaker 1: wave back, I want to fucking jump that.
- 1:11Speaker 2: Yeah, wave to my child, Wave to my baby. Not
- 1:14Speaker 2: skinny but not hat fat. Posted on her story, a
- 1:18Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago and she was recording her son
- 1:21Speaker 2: waving to someone walking by, and she said in the
- 1:24Speaker 2: in the video, she's like, look at him, he's waving.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Wave back, wave back, don't be a bitch. Don't be
- 1:28Speaker 2: a bitch, to be a bitch. And then the person
- 1:30Speaker 2: he's walking and she's like, okay, there's a bitch right there.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you bitch. Yeah, wave back to my child. Yeah.
- 1:36Speaker 1: So when people don't wave back, I number one want
- 1:38Speaker 1: to cut them, and number two I wave back to ocean.
- 1:40Speaker 1: I'm like, don't you worry. Mama's always got you. That's
- 1:44Speaker 1: so cute. Yeah. So we we went to Teddy Mellencamp's
- 1:48Speaker 1: daughter's birthday. Okay, she turned two. Uh, Stacy and Bea
- 1:53Speaker 1: were there with Hartford. I met a bunch of cool moms,
- 1:56Speaker 1: you did. I met a bunch of cool moms really,
- 1:59Speaker 1: who are just doing the damn thing.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Cool moms are a vibe, you know, nothing hotter than
- 2:05Speaker 2: just like a parent, right, who's like doing the parent job.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you know that balls deep in it. Yeah. So
- 2:14Speaker 1: we were already talking about preschool and Stasse texted me
- 2:18Speaker 1: Sunday morning. The party was on Saturday, bright and early.
- 2:20Speaker 1: She was like, what the fuck do we do about this?
- 2:23Speaker 1: We have to start schmoozing. Yeah, I said two things.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I have been in an environment for so many years
- 2:32Speaker 1: where the facade and materialistic things were a priority. I
- 2:41Speaker 1: don't want it anymore. I don't like it. I didn't
- 2:45Speaker 1: like it then. Contrary, but what about the time you
- 2:48Speaker 1: said blow jobs our paygs? I got it all right,
- 2:52Speaker 1: shock value. Yeah, I don't want it, didn't care about
- 2:57Speaker 1: it fucking then. I don't care about it now. My
- 3:01Speaker 1: two top priorities that I told Stossy one, I want
- 3:04Speaker 1: my kid to have the best time ever. Want her
- 3:06Speaker 1: to be around kids. I want her to be stimulated,
- 3:08Speaker 1: I want her to be safe. The second is I
- 3:12Speaker 1: want my kid around Hartford. I grew up with my
- 3:15Speaker 1: mom's best friends having babies, and their babies were my
- 3:18Speaker 1: best friends. Like, that is priority to me. So wherever
- 3:22Speaker 1: Hartford is going, where do I sign up?
- 3:26Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 3:26Speaker 2: You know, do you think all of your babies will
- 3:29Speaker 2: go like your crew, all the kids will go in
- 3:31Speaker 2: the same Or is it just like you're focusing on
- 3:33Speaker 2: Hartford and Ocean because they seem to be No.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I think the thing that's hard with Sheena is she
- 3:38Speaker 1: lives the dream where she like has her place in
- 3:41Speaker 1: La she has her place in San Diego, she has
- 3:43Speaker 1: her replace in Palm Springs. She travels like she lives
- 3:47Speaker 1: such a fun, fun life. But what's hard is like
- 3:52Speaker 1: I always know that she's constantly on the move. So
- 3:55Speaker 1: obviously when it comes, I'll talk to Brittany, I'll talk
- 3:58Speaker 1: to Sheena. But it gets hard, like we signed me
- 4:03Speaker 1: brittain Stas signed the girls and cruise up for baby
- 4:08Speaker 1: sensory classes on Wednesdays, and it's like mommy and me
- 4:12Speaker 1: and I knew she no couldn't do it because she's
- 4:14Speaker 1: spending her time in San Diego right now. Oh you know,
- 4:17Speaker 1: so I will venture into like where are we going
- 4:21Speaker 1: to school? Everybody, let's do this.
- 4:24Speaker 2: Yeah, but that is a good point you had, so
- 4:28Speaker 2: that was important to you. You have who's still I
- 4:31Speaker 2: think your best friend, someone that you went to like
- 4:33Speaker 2: grade school with.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Right, Yes, see, none of them. I had two of.
- 4:38Speaker 2: Them really, and you're still friends with both.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Of them, the best of friends. So that's important. Yes,
- 4:44Speaker 1: Like they know every like the way I react to things.
- 4:48Speaker 1: They're like, oh okay, that's because this happened when she
- 4:51Speaker 1: was four, right, So she's still dealing with that, Like, yeah,
- 4:55Speaker 1: they know every Woody get a heartbreak, They've been there
- 4:58Speaker 1: for it all. Like things that I would never talk
- 5:00Speaker 1: to anyone about, I would speak to them about.
- 5:04Speaker 2: That's great.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Yeah, and I want that for my baby. And you
- 5:07Speaker 1: know what, Stossy and I are very similar in the
- 5:09Speaker 1: sense that we're very structured. I can't fly by the
- 5:13Speaker 1: seat of my pants, like I need to know, Like
- 5:15Speaker 1: if you tell me we're linking up Wednesday, November two
- 5:19Speaker 1: at eleven, I will be there at ten fifty five, yep.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Where Yeah it's on my calendar, Yeah it is. Yes.
- 5:28Speaker 2: Wait, but let me go back to when you said schmoozing.
- 5:31Speaker 2: You're like you said, Stacy said something like to you
- 5:34Speaker 2: about we need to be schmoozing, and you were like,
- 5:36Speaker 2: I'm not explain that a little more, because do you mean, like, listen,
- 5:40Speaker 2: I don't want to send my kid to like this
- 5:43Speaker 2: this school where I have to worry about her asking
- 5:46Speaker 2: for a Gucci bag when she's five, or like, what
- 5:48Speaker 2: do you mean by that?
- 5:49Speaker 1: Or was it this is what I mean by that? Okay,
- 5:52Speaker 1: La is very weird, and I know we have a
- 5:53Speaker 1: lot of listeners who like it strange to me too.
- 5:56Speaker 1: I come from fucking Utah. You go to the public
- 5:58Speaker 1: school that's a mile away and no one thinks twice
- 6:01Speaker 1: about it, Like that's just your school. LA is so different.
- 6:05Speaker 1: There's amazing public schools, charter schools, private schools, but each one.
- 6:10Speaker 1: Not so much the public school because just based off
- 6:12Speaker 1: of my public schools, like come one, come all, you
- 6:15Speaker 1: live in the neighborhood. Yeah, but private schools are insane
- 6:20Speaker 1: to get into. And I was talking to moms even
- 6:24Speaker 1: before I gave birth, and I remember having this conversation
- 6:27Speaker 1: with Stassy. Everyone was like, a year and a half
- 6:29Speaker 1: is when you start, wow for preschool, like start the
- 6:33Speaker 1: process of schmoozing because that sets up their entire So
- 6:37Speaker 1: it's like politics, one hundred percent. It is politics. And
- 6:41Speaker 1: Sazzy and I looked at each other. We have plenty
- 6:43Speaker 1: of time. Hello, oceans turning one. Hartford will be a year.
- 6:49Speaker 2: And a half in June, Like it's here, Yeah, it's
- 6:53Speaker 2: freaking here. And you're saying, you're like, I don't want
- 6:56Speaker 2: I'm not about that life.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Well, a lot of a lot of parents that I
- 7:02Speaker 1: spoke to before I gave birth, it was like you
- 7:05Speaker 1: could just tell it was social hour for moms. Motherfucker.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I got a job, right, I got a job. Like
- 7:13Speaker 1: I if I'm taking Ocean to preschool, it's because I
- 7:15Speaker 1: need to go to work. I don't have time to
- 7:17Speaker 1: like show off my newest birken bag. Yeah, I don't
- 7:20Speaker 1: have time to talk to about the luncheon that I
- 7:23Speaker 1: went to and have.
- 7:24Speaker 2: The dubb little charity Like, No.
- 7:27Speaker 1: I don't I work during the day. You're a working mom, correct. Yeah,
- 7:32Speaker 1: And at this point in time, I'm Ocean's provider. The
- 7:38Speaker 1: money that comes into my household is coming from me
- 7:40Speaker 1: only me, and I'm providing, right, So I can't do
- 7:45Speaker 1: the whole like my kid goes here because it's so
- 7:48Speaker 1: fun for the moms.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Right, and because it's like and you can't spend because
- 7:53Speaker 2: it probably is the way that you're saying. I don't know.
- 7:56Speaker 2: That's why I asked how it works. It sounds like
- 7:59Speaker 2: it's almost a full time job getting your kid into
- 8:01Speaker 2: a school. It is like starting at one and a
- 8:03Speaker 2: half and you're scheduling these luncheons and I need to
- 8:06Speaker 2: know where to go to talk to these ladies. That's
- 8:08Speaker 2: like a full time job.
- 8:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and some and some of the moms start preschool
- 8:13Speaker 1: at like two or three. Okay. I was like, I'm
- 8:15Speaker 1: not ready to send her to preschool at that age, right,
- 8:18Speaker 1: four is good. I don't want her gone every day.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Like maybe two to three days a week is totally
- 8:24Speaker 1: fine for a few hours. But like I mostly work
- 8:29Speaker 1: from home. We're in my office right now. It's hot
- 8:32Speaker 1: mess in here.
- 8:33Speaker 2: I love it, love it in here.
- 8:36Speaker 1: I feel like hot. I know it's a good vibe
- 8:39Speaker 1: in here, but I like just being where my kid is.
- 8:44Speaker 1: So it's just all of these these bridges that I'm like, no,
- 8:48Speaker 1: we don't need a cross yet, but if you live
- 8:50Speaker 1: in La, no, you're crossing them now.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Because it's like pressure to feel like you have to start. Yeah, dude,
- 8:56Speaker 2: can I tell you how much it is for this preschool?
- 8:58Speaker 2: I'm dying to know? Actually, preschool two days a week?
- 9:02Speaker 2: Let me yes, let me guess, Let me guess.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Is it?
- 9:04Speaker 2: Are we guessing months?
- 9:06Speaker 1: Year, yearly? Jesus five thousand dollars, sixteen thousand dollars. If
- 9:15Speaker 1: I want to send Ocean to this preschool, oh my god,
- 9:20Speaker 1: two days a week.
- 9:21Speaker 2: A year, yeah, oh my god, double that. And that's
- 9:25Speaker 2: a lot of like college tuition.
- 9:29Speaker 1: That's yeah, But if you think about it, a lot
- 9:31Speaker 1: of these private schools out here are like fifty to
- 9:33Speaker 1: sixty thousand dollars a year. That gives me for these
- 9:37Speaker 1: kids to go to private school.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Yeah, have you ever thought about homeschooling? Were you homeschooled
- 9:45Speaker 2: and the younger did you go to preschool?
- 9:47Speaker 1: I did go to preschool. I went to Discovery Q.
- 9:50Speaker 2: I was homeschooled for preschool, and I entered kindergarten knowing
- 9:56Speaker 2: how to write in cursive and full. I was like,
- 9:59Speaker 2: light your ahead, Damn, light years ahead.
- 10:02Speaker 1: I think most people send kids to preschool for just
- 10:07Speaker 1: to like get them interacting with other kids, right, But
- 10:10Speaker 1: I want Ocean to be the same way, Like I
- 10:12Speaker 1: want her walking and be like I can count to
- 10:14Speaker 1: a million, right, here's my cursive right.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Granted, my mom and all of her friends did it,
- 10:23Speaker 2: so I was like socializing five days a week. So
- 10:26Speaker 2: it was kind of like school, except we would like
- 10:28Speaker 2: do our preschool until certain time and then we'd go play.
- 10:31Speaker 2: But it makes sense if you're like a mom and
- 10:33Speaker 2: you have a single child, it does make sense to
- 10:35Speaker 2: send them to something that it's like, well, I want
- 10:37Speaker 2: them to socialize, right, I get that.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I get that an ocean will have a sibling one day. Yeah,
- 10:43Speaker 1: we'll make sure of that.
- 10:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Yeah, and if I I would prefer to not have
- 10:48Speaker 1: a man involved, like I'm not opposed to like finding
- 10:53Speaker 1: a sperm donor. Yeah you know. Yeah, so when that
- 10:58Speaker 1: time comes, because I don't want her super old and
- 11:00Speaker 1: then I bring a baby in, like, I want them
- 11:01Speaker 1: to be pretty close in it, pretty close in age. Yeah.
- 11:04Speaker 1: So for me, if that time comes and I haven't
- 11:08Speaker 1: met anyone who I know is a good dude and
- 11:10Speaker 1: has cleared the background check that I secretly have gone on.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Him secretly, not so secretly anymore, Okay, you know, then.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Pull up the computer and show me some dudes.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Yeah, why not.
- 11:25Speaker 1: I have no problem with that.
- 11:26Speaker 2: I think that's a great ada before how many years
- 11:29Speaker 2: apart are you in Easton? A few right, like a
- 11:31Speaker 2: little over too, see and you guys are close.
- 11:34Speaker 1: I love that.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's same with my siblings A year older, a
- 11:38Speaker 2: few years younger. I before I'm literally two days before
- 11:43Speaker 2: I met Kyle. I'm not kidding. I was doing this
- 11:44Speaker 2: single thing for like a couple of years. I was
- 11:46Speaker 2: feeling good, and I was like, this is it this
- 11:49Speaker 2: is how you live. You just you don't need a man.
- 11:53Speaker 2: I was like, this is how I'm going to do it.
- 11:54Speaker 2: In a few years from now, I'm going to get
- 11:56Speaker 2: a sperm donor. I'm going to be a career woman first.
- 11:59Speaker 2: And then I was like excited about it. Yeah, and
- 12:01Speaker 2: then I met Kyle and I was like shit.
- 12:04Speaker 1: But that's how it usually happens. Yeah, yeah, you know, like, yeah,
- 12:09Speaker 1: I'm talking to a few people right now, and my
- 12:13Speaker 1: mom has asked me a few times like what are
- 12:15Speaker 1: you wanting? Even one of these dudes asked me like
- 12:19Speaker 1: what are you looking for? Yeah? I said nothing. Yeah,
- 12:23Speaker 1: I'm so like we've spoken about this before, Like I'm fulfilled.
- 12:28Speaker 1: I have my business that I'm working on, I have family,
- 12:32Speaker 1: I have a great group of friends. Like I'm literally
- 12:36Speaker 1: I have zero expectations.
- 12:38Speaker 2: Yeah, you're not looking for anything, which be prepared because
- 12:41Speaker 2: that's usually when it comes. And you're like shit because
- 12:43Speaker 2: you're like I'm fulfilled. I feel like that's when it
- 12:47Speaker 2: comes because you're fulfilled.
- 12:49Speaker 4: You know.
- 12:50Speaker 2: It's like the old saying or whatever. It's like you
- 12:52Speaker 2: cannot unless you're fulfilled, you cannot fulfill someone else.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Of course, like you have to be one hundred percent
- 12:58Speaker 1: with yourself so that you equal two hundred with a partner. Yes,
- 13:02Speaker 1: but you can't do this fifty to fifty and.
- 13:03Speaker 2: You can't look for someone to complete you complete yourself
- 13:06Speaker 2: and then that person's a bonus. And that's like, you know,
- 13:09Speaker 2: you have a partner in life for a life partner,
- 13:12Speaker 2: but you don't have someone completing you right then you
- 13:14Speaker 2: lose that person or whatever, even if it's with something
- 13:17Speaker 2: something terrible happens, you are you don't know what to
- 13:20Speaker 2: do with yourself. No, but I think that's when it comes.
- 13:23Speaker 2: But I love that you say that, like I'm not
- 13:25Speaker 2: looking for anyone and that's also you know me. I'm
- 13:28Speaker 2: telling you, like la la, go have fun, give yourself
- 13:29Speaker 2: at least a year of having fun.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Only I think so too. That's what I think, And
- 13:35Speaker 1: I wrote this in my book, like I don't think
- 13:37Speaker 1: that you should have like that it's set in stone
- 13:41Speaker 1: that you have one hoe phase. Yeah, no, you know,
- 13:45Speaker 1: like a lot of people do it in their twenties.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Some people don't do it at all. Like no judgment here,
- 13:50Speaker 1: like live your life. But I think you know, you
- 13:54Speaker 1: just roll with the punches. It's like I it is
- 13:58Speaker 1: different though.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Now, yeah, like, what what do you mean?
- 14:01Speaker 1: Well, I'm not just out here I talk about like
- 14:04Speaker 1: I'm just out here looking for some big old d Yeah,
- 14:07Speaker 1: but I'm.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Really not you you are, Well, I'll let you say it.
- 14:13Speaker 2: What is what do you mean?
- 14:15Speaker 1: Well, we've spoken a lot about like me now being sober.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Yeah, And.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I'm really proud of myself because last week and this week,
- 14:29Speaker 1: we'll just say this week. This week, I've hit three
- 14:33Speaker 1: AA meetings already, which the last time I hit three
- 14:35Speaker 1: AA meetings in a row was like at the beginning
- 14:38Speaker 1: of my sobriety. And you know, I'm just I went
- 14:43Speaker 1: to this meeting that is so when you read the
- 14:47Speaker 1: Big Book, there's like so many different areas of what
- 14:51Speaker 1: it talks about. One of them is sex. So this
- 14:53Speaker 1: meeting that I go to, it's a women's meeting. They
- 14:55Speaker 1: talk about sexuality and sobriety and what it was like
- 15:00Speaker 1: when they were drinking and what it's like now. And
- 15:04Speaker 1: this woman shared her story and I just like, I
- 15:07Speaker 1: had no intention of sharing, and she thought I raised
- 15:11Speaker 1: my hand like so much going through my mind as
- 15:14Speaker 1: she was talking, and then it was time to share,
- 15:17Speaker 1: and she was like waw la, did you have your
- 15:18Speaker 1: hand up? Would you like to share it? And I
- 15:19Speaker 1: was like I didn't, but like, this is the universe
- 15:22Speaker 1: letting me know that, Like I need to tell you.
- 15:25Speaker 1: You inspire me. Thank you for your share. And I
- 15:28Speaker 1: realized in that meeting, I'm not ready to have sex yet. Really,
- 15:34Speaker 1: I'm not ready. I have so much work to do
- 15:37Speaker 1: in this program. Still, I am not only like my
- 15:42Speaker 1: relationship with sex back in the day was like Adam
- 15:45Speaker 1: to the roster, this is so fun, Let's drink, let's
- 15:48Speaker 1: touch each other. You know. Then I get into a
- 15:51Speaker 1: relationship and now that it's ended and I my eyes
- 15:55Speaker 1: are open to what was going on behind my back.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Sex is tainted for me. I think about it and
- 16:02Speaker 1: I'm disgusted. I've got to get out of that. I
- 16:05Speaker 1: have to reclaim my sexuality. I have to reclaim what
- 16:08Speaker 1: sex means to me, because right now, it's dirty, it's gross,
- 16:13Speaker 1: it represents betrayal, it represents darkness, and like none of
- 16:18Speaker 1: my doing, all of someone else is doing. But right
- 16:21Speaker 1: now that's my focus. And so I called my sponsor.
- 16:26Speaker 1: She sent over a lot of things that Jessica printed off,
- 16:30Speaker 1: and now I just have to I was super proud
- 16:33Speaker 1: of where I was with my steps, and now I'm
- 16:36Speaker 1: going back to like rework steps to get me out
- 16:40Speaker 1: of this headspace and get me confident in my sobriety,
- 16:44Speaker 1: which I am. But there's a big difference between I'm
- 16:48Speaker 1: confident in not picking up a drink that I'm solid on,
- 16:51Speaker 1: but people don't realize that it's so much bigger going
- 16:55Speaker 1: into AA and doing the program. Not picking up is
- 16:58Speaker 1: the cherry on top. The work you have to do
- 17:01Speaker 1: is a person and we're humans. So I'm not gonna
- 17:03Speaker 1: say I'll never clap back again. I'm never gonna have
- 17:05Speaker 1: sex unless it's the perfect person and it's a big
- 17:08Speaker 1: old deed. Yeah, I feel great about it, like shit's
- 17:10Speaker 1: gonna happen. But like that's what I'm working on right
- 17:13Speaker 1: now because the not drinking part, I'm fucking solid. Put
- 17:17Speaker 1: a vodka bottle in front of me right now, don't
- 17:20Speaker 1: want it. Buy the other stuff, the most important stuff
- 17:25Speaker 1: in my meetings and in the rooms. I got to
- 17:27Speaker 1: revisit because my life is different now, very different than
- 17:30Speaker 1: when I first got sober.
- 17:32Speaker 2: And I think that's so incredible that you are willing
- 17:36Speaker 2: to say all right, time to go back I've done
- 17:38Speaker 2: the steps, Like I've shared before, I've plenty of family
- 17:41Speaker 2: members and close friends who are sober now who are
- 17:44Speaker 2: struggling with their sobriety, who are addicts currently and then
- 17:49Speaker 2: in the program been out of it. And I have
- 17:51Speaker 2: some friends who've gone through the program, and yes, they
- 17:54Speaker 2: go to meetings here and there, but I don't think
- 17:56Speaker 2: they've ever It's been years and they've never gone back
- 17:58Speaker 2: through the steps. Other friends who have to do the
- 18:02Speaker 2: steps constantly once they finish them, they're going back through them.
- 18:06Speaker 2: And because I have a lot of people I know,
- 18:09Speaker 2: I've heard about them and talked about them, and I
- 18:11Speaker 2: think they're good. They're so great for everyone, and I
- 18:16Speaker 2: love some of the specific steps. Just an example is like,
- 18:21Speaker 2: and I'm not saying it correctly, I've never been through
- 18:23Speaker 2: the program, but there's like there's a step or whatever
- 18:27Speaker 2: that you have to It's like maybe you write down
- 18:29Speaker 2: your insecurity and people who threaten that insecurity and why
- 18:34Speaker 2: like or something they did this got me angry? Well
- 18:38Speaker 2: why did it get you angry? What is it threaten
- 18:40Speaker 2: about yourself? And then you start doing it with a
- 18:42Speaker 2: lot and you see, like, holy shit, this is threatening
- 18:47Speaker 2: my pride or this is it's like and you find
- 18:50Speaker 2: this similar thing, I've done it before. When I'm like,
- 18:52Speaker 2: give me that piece of paper because I need to
- 18:54Speaker 2: do that.
- 18:55Speaker 1: It's not it's I mean, the alcoholic mind is very
- 18:58Speaker 1: different than anybody is mind. Right, But the steps, like
- 19:02Speaker 1: the things that we work on, you could be anybody
- 19:05Speaker 1: working on them. Yeah, yeah, you know, it's it's for me.
- 19:10Speaker 1: My program is like church. It hits every aspect of
- 19:15Speaker 1: what I need in my life to be fulfilled, on
- 19:18Speaker 1: top of giving me strength to not drink again. And
- 19:21Speaker 1: I don't want to drink again. I don't want to.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't have that fun yeah you know.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Yeah, when I get a little loose and then I
- 19:28Speaker 1: wake up the next morning with a freaking hangover and
- 19:30Speaker 1: the Sunday's scaries. I don't want the Sunday s It's
- 19:34Speaker 1: not worth it. No, Yes, and my skin has never
- 19:39Speaker 1: looked better since. That's true. Tough, it's gone. The glazed eyes.
- 19:43Speaker 2: You're glowing constantly, thank you. No, but yeah, that's I
- 19:47Speaker 2: dig it. Yeah, I'm want my pink cloud, right, But
- 19:51Speaker 2: like you said, do I'm confident in my sobriety, but
- 19:54Speaker 2: I'm working on other things. And I think it's awesome, right,
- 19:57Speaker 2: I are working on all the other things.
- 19:58Speaker 1: Yes, use yourself.
- 20:00Speaker 2: That's a big thing though to you, for you to
- 20:01Speaker 2: be like, I don't think I'm ready for sex.
- 20:04Speaker 1: No, I'm definitely not. Yeah, once I get my tig
- 20:07Speaker 1: Old Biddies done, maybe a different story.
- 20:10Speaker 2: I give it a few weeks after that, and I'm
- 20:12Speaker 2: going to go.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Just kidding you, guys. We have two amazing guests today,
- 20:18Speaker 1: Aj and Emial Power couple. Incredible. They do a ton
- 20:24Speaker 1: of work with the LGBTQ plus community. I'm inspired by them.
- 20:28Speaker 1: They'll be coming up after the break. Before we cut
- 20:30Speaker 1: to the break, I want to remind you I'm going
- 20:34Speaker 1: on motherfucking tour. The first spot i'll be in is Irvine, California.
- 20:39Speaker 1: But that one you can't come to because it's sold out.
- 20:42Speaker 1: I'm so excited to see everyone who does have a ticket.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Then we're hitting Fort Lauderdale, Clearwater, Orlando, Atlanta, Nashville which
- 20:51Speaker 1: spoil alert Shena and Brock will be joining me in
- 20:56Speaker 1: Nashville time. Oh my god, it's gonna be that I
- 21:00Speaker 1: have with them, is it? I can't tell you, guys,
- 21:04Speaker 1: but if you're near Nashville. I'm trying to see you.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Then we're going to New Orleans, Houston, Austin, and Dallas.
- 21:11Speaker 1: By the way, we have Jackson Brittany for the Florida dates.
- 21:15Speaker 1: That'll be li af what that's so exciting. Oh my god,
- 21:19Speaker 1: I know they're locked in, so to buy tickets, just
- 21:22Speaker 1: go to give them Live dot com and make sure
- 21:27Speaker 1: you stay till the end of the podcast because I'm
- 21:30Speaker 1: answering your voicemails. I love y'all and we will be
- 21:33Speaker 1: right back. Hello, my loves, We are back, and I
- 21:40Speaker 1: have really amazing guests today. We have AJ Gibson and
- 21:44Speaker 1: Emil Ennis Junior. You guys look so fabulous. I cannot
- 21:48Speaker 1: like I'm like mortified showing up looking like a hot mess.
- 21:51Speaker 1: Look at you both.
- 21:52Speaker 3: No, you're adorable. We love you and we're appreciative. So
- 21:55Speaker 3: thank you for having us. We're excited to be here.
- 21:57Speaker 1: Of course, I'm honored, and you know I've obviously I'm
- 22:00Speaker 1: a huge fan of both of you. I think you
- 22:02Speaker 1: guys kill it. And then I was, you know, reading
- 22:05Speaker 1: into all of your accomplishments and you know, you guys
- 22:08Speaker 1: have an amazing podcast Confess the Mess, which I dig
- 22:12Speaker 1: the name. First of all, I want to know how
- 22:15Speaker 1: the two of you came to be.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Yeah, gosh, we actually it's interesting. It's kind of a
- 22:19Speaker 3: full circle moment. Yeah, we came to be hosting a
- 22:22Speaker 3: podcast together ten years ago, but.
- 22:24Speaker 4: It was a it was video so it was it
- 22:27Speaker 4: was video focused at this after show network called after
- 22:31Speaker 4: Us and they did after shows for all these different shows,
- 22:35Speaker 4: and then it also went to a podcast fore, but
- 22:38Speaker 4: it was way before a podcasts were or are what
- 22:41Speaker 4: they are now.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Yeah, and the first time we met was actually on camera. Yeah,
- 22:46Speaker 3: so we've actually he made a YouTube video out of
- 22:48Speaker 3: it a couple of years time, and it took tok
- 22:50Speaker 3: and we got a lot of mileage out of it.
- 22:52Speaker 3: But yeah, so we have like the moment we met
- 22:54Speaker 3: each other for the very first time on cameras. It's
- 22:55Speaker 3: kind of cool. We were hosting the after show for
- 22:57Speaker 3: America's Got Talent, which is the weirdest thing in the
- 22:59Speaker 3: world that did not even after show. But we were
- 23:02Speaker 3: friends for like the first five months and then eventually
- 23:05Speaker 3: this randomly started dating and we're getting married now this
- 23:07Speaker 3: summer or so. It's been a wild, wild ride.
- 23:09Speaker 1: I mean, congratulations, that is thank you amazing. And you know,
- 23:15Speaker 1: I always wonder, like how how it is to work
- 23:20Speaker 1: with your partner, Like, obviously you guys are a force
- 23:23Speaker 1: as a couple, but you're a force individually as well.
- 23:27Speaker 1: How does that dynamic work? How do you balance you know,
- 23:31Speaker 1: your gigs on top of doing podcasts, hosting, and then
- 23:35Speaker 1: like shutting it down when you guys are like, hey,
- 23:38Speaker 1: now here we are as a couple.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Oh wait, we're supposed to shut down.
- 23:42Speaker 3: Are supposed to shut it down?
- 23:44Speaker 4: No? Yeah, I think I think for us, And that's
- 23:47Speaker 4: kind of what the whole premise of our podcast, Confessor
- 23:51Speaker 4: Mess is, Like, it's people submitting their secrets and their confessions.
- 23:55Speaker 4: And years ago, it actually started with just the two
- 23:58Speaker 4: of us and we sat based face and naked on
- 24:01Speaker 4: the bed together. Yeah, and we kind of confessed our
- 24:03Speaker 4: deepest desires, our fears, things that we thought we would
- 24:08Speaker 4: be judged for.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Person back in our relationship. Yeah, because I'm about nine
- 24:12Speaker 3: years older than he is, and I'm I'm actually the
- 24:15Speaker 3: first person he's ever gone on a date with. And yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 3: and we're getting married and we've been to get together
- 24:21Speaker 3: almost ten years now.
- 24:22Speaker 4: And when we met, I was in the closet so
- 24:24Speaker 4: my father's a pastor, he's retired now, and the mom's Jamaica.
- 24:27Speaker 4: So there was a lot of layers to it, but
- 24:29Speaker 4: like we confess those things to each other and when
- 24:32Speaker 4: we talk about like how we work together, because a
- 24:33Speaker 4: lot of people want to know, like, oh, how do
- 24:35Speaker 4: you guys work together? And like shut it down and
- 24:37Speaker 4: do all these things. And I think for us, we're
- 24:39Speaker 4: each other's biggest fans. I know that sounds corny and
- 24:42Speaker 4: geez what we really are. And we're both hosts, like
- 24:44Speaker 4: we we aren't like hosts we're trying to be actors
- 24:46Speaker 4: or hosts. We're trying to be models or something else.
- 24:48Speaker 3: We're I think we also respect each other's career, yeah,
- 24:50Speaker 3: careers and talent. Like we literally he's done things I've
- 24:53Speaker 3: never done. I've done things he's never done.
- 24:55Speaker 1: Yeah, So we kind of bring up and there's no jealousy.
- 24:57Speaker 1: There's no jealousy.
- 24:58Speaker 3: There's some moments in moments I think I struggle with
- 25:01Speaker 3: it a little bit more than he does sometimes, you know,
- 25:03Speaker 3: just it's not it. I don't know if it's jealousy.
- 25:05Speaker 3: It's it's almost like, you know, I see him get
- 25:09Speaker 3: an opportunity, I'm excited for him. I'm so proud of him,
- 25:12Speaker 3: and I don't want his opportunity. I don't want to
- 25:15Speaker 3: take something from him. But then I have that thought
- 25:18Speaker 3: in the back of my mind that I think is
- 25:20Speaker 3: pretty common. But then I'm kind of like, when's my
- 25:23Speaker 3: next turn? Because you know this industry, it's like you're
- 25:25Speaker 3: always waiting for the next opportunity. Every time you work
- 25:28Speaker 3: a job, you're you're on the top of the mountain.
- 25:30Speaker 3: You feel like you're like like like ruling the world,
- 25:32Speaker 3: and then then what the next thing?
- 25:36Speaker 1: Yeah, and there's someone always sitting in the pocket ready
- 25:39Speaker 1: to take your place always, right.
- 25:41Speaker 4: Yeah, you constantly feel like you're replaceable. I don't think
- 25:44Speaker 4: I get jealous on my end just because.
- 25:46Speaker 3: Or you're a better human, healthyware.
- 25:50Speaker 4: But I think for me and I think this is
- 25:52Speaker 4: why we work too, is when he does have those moments.
- 25:54Speaker 4: I'm very much in the mentality of what's for you
- 25:57Speaker 4: as for you, And so anytime we get an opportunity
- 26:00Speaker 4: or don't get an opportunity, it really is, yeah, you
- 26:04Speaker 4: might not have gotten this, or I might have gotten this,
- 26:06Speaker 4: or you might have gotten this, but that just means
- 26:07Speaker 4: it wasn't meant for me or it wasn't meant for you.
- 26:10Speaker 3: And we've also just been through so much. I remember
- 26:12Speaker 3: there was a time I had a national talk show
- 26:14Speaker 3: on Hollywood to Stay Alive on Fox years ago, and
- 26:17Speaker 3: while I was hosting a national daily talk show, he
- 26:21Speaker 3: was also working on stuff and he was doing a
- 26:22Speaker 3: red carpet or something, and he usually would hire a
- 26:25Speaker 3: camera operator or a camera and a sound person.
- 26:26Speaker 4: I would hire no when I was broke. I would
- 26:28Speaker 4: have my best friend, but you didn't get any money, no.
- 26:35Speaker 3: Here, And one time it fell through, and so I
- 26:39Speaker 3: went and I was his camera and a sound operator
- 26:41Speaker 3: on a red carpet and its so many people we
- 26:44Speaker 3: ran into We're like, wait, a j what are you doing?
- 26:46Speaker 3: Like why do you have a headset on? And why
- 26:48Speaker 3: are you like holding a camera tripod? Because he needed
- 26:51Speaker 3: me to And that morning, I'm hosting a national talk show,
- 26:54Speaker 3: and that evening I'm on a red carpet in Westwood
- 26:56Speaker 3: helping him out. But then also on the flip side,
- 26:59Speaker 3: I'll be hosting you know, red carp for like the
- 27:01Speaker 3: Golden Globes, and I'm like, hey, Eil mel, I need
- 27:04Speaker 3: a picture of Lady Gaga. And he comes and takes
- 27:06Speaker 3: a picture of lady like there was a epic photo.
- 27:07Speaker 3: By the way, It's like five seconds to get that shot.
- 27:10Speaker 3: It was so very super crisp and clear.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Like he does a talent in itself.
- 27:14Speaker 3: He does my social media for me on all these
- 27:16Speaker 3: big red carpets I do and I interviewed the biggest
- 27:18Speaker 3: celebrities in the world, and he's right there by my
- 27:21Speaker 3: side posting on Instagram for me. So like, I think
- 27:23Speaker 3: that we don't have too much ego. Ego doesn't get
- 27:25Speaker 3: in the way right there to help each other.
- 27:27Speaker 1: No, it doesn't seem that way. And it seems like also,
- 27:30Speaker 1: you guys have have done something that many people try
- 27:34Speaker 1: to do, which is take their career and their relationship
- 27:40Speaker 1: and blend it into one and make it freaking work
- 27:43Speaker 1: and be successful. Because that that is not easy. It
- 27:47Speaker 1: usually is a demise in people's relationships when they start
- 27:50Speaker 1: blending the two. You guys have done. You've conquered the impossible,
- 27:54Speaker 1: is what you're telling me. And I think it's the
- 27:57Speaker 1: ego that you put aside, right, I mean, help me.
- 28:00Speaker 4: Yeah, part of it. I think when you look at
- 28:03Speaker 4: like reality shows, I know you're in the reality space
- 28:05Speaker 4: and like we look reality shows. Sometimes when a relationship
- 28:07Speaker 4: goes on reality show, you're like, oh God, it's not
- 28:09Speaker 4: gonna last, especially marriages and things. But I think for
- 28:11Speaker 4: us one, we're very particular. Like on our podcast, we
- 28:15Speaker 4: reveal a lot, like we have no filter probably, but
- 28:20Speaker 4: we still know like their secrets and things that we
- 28:23Speaker 4: have revealed. But there's so much that people don't know
- 28:25Speaker 4: about us, but people relate to us because we are
- 28:28Speaker 4: telling more than a lot of people tell. We're also
- 28:30Speaker 4: still we have our private things we keep with each other,
- 28:33Speaker 4: and I think the reason why it works is because
- 28:35Speaker 4: we do have this and maybe it's because we posted
- 28:37Speaker 4: together and been around each other for so long that
- 28:39Speaker 4: we have this uh rapport with each other and this trust.
- 28:42Speaker 3: With each other and understanding, right yeah, and what's just
- 28:46Speaker 3: for us? Yeah, which makes me think that we're low
- 28:48Speaker 3: key kind of like wild because the stuff that we
- 28:50Speaker 3: do tell on our podcast is kind of insane. So
- 28:52Speaker 3: I'm like, we're keeping secrets that people don't know about
- 28:55Speaker 3: and they will never know about. And I think that
- 28:58Speaker 3: we didn't seek it out. We we were together for
- 29:01Speaker 3: almost eight years before we work together on camera.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Wow, So how long have you been together in total
- 29:06Speaker 1: then nine and a half almost.
- 29:08Speaker 3: Ten years now.
- 29:09Speaker 4: Yeah, we met in the first time we met oi
- 29:11Speaker 4: camera was May twenty twelve, and then we started dating
- 29:14Speaker 4: in September of twenty twelve after I came out.
- 29:16Speaker 3: And so I think our thing was so many of his,
- 29:20Speaker 3: his followers or fans or supporters and mine separately, would
- 29:24Speaker 3: see us pop up on each other's social media and
- 29:28Speaker 3: they were always like, I want to see more of
- 29:29Speaker 3: you guys together.
- 29:30Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:30Speaker 3: And then he had a YouTube channel for a while
- 29:33Speaker 3: and it still does, but that it was just pretty solo.
- 29:35Speaker 3: And then he put up a video of us together.
- 29:37Speaker 3: I think it was like a boyfriend challenge or a
- 29:39Speaker 3: muckbong or like one of those like couples videos. We
- 29:42Speaker 3: never we have never none. We talked about it, we
- 29:46Speaker 3: did it the boyfriend question, the boyfriend boyfriend tag, and
- 29:50Speaker 3: it did really well and we're like, huh. And then
- 29:52Speaker 3: we put a couple of pictures up on Instagram like
- 29:54Speaker 3: it did really well. And then I remember a few
- 29:56Speaker 3: years ago we walked the red carpet at the Billboard
- 30:00Speaker 3: Music Awards together.
- 30:01Speaker 1: God, you guys are so fabulous. I keep telling me I.
- 30:05Speaker 3: Was hosting the red carpet for Dick Clark and they
- 30:08Speaker 3: produced a show and I'd done it for many years,
- 30:10Speaker 3: and I said, I'm going to have Emil walk the
- 30:12Speaker 3: carpet with me this year. I've never done it, and
- 30:15Speaker 3: he at the time just put in perspective, like he says,
- 30:18Speaker 3: he hosted like major red carpets all the time, so
- 30:20Speaker 3: he's walked the carpet, he's been photographed.
- 30:22Speaker 4: By getting all these things for me. I was hosting
- 30:25Speaker 4: for Entertainment News Channel, but I was also still a
- 30:27Speaker 4: server at a restaurant, and so I was kind of like, ah,
- 30:30Speaker 4: I was scared. So while he was prepping and getting
- 30:32Speaker 4: ready for the show, I went to because Billboard Musical
- 30:34Speaker 4: Words at the time was still in Vegas. Yeah, I
- 30:36Speaker 4: went to the FedEx Kinko's and whatever hotel we were
- 30:39Speaker 4: staying at. I think it was like New York, New York,
- 30:41Speaker 4: and I went and printed out my name on little strips,
- 30:44Speaker 4: so just in case photographers didn't know who I was.
- 30:46Speaker 4: I was like prepared to hate it to them because
- 30:48Speaker 4: I was like, you know who he is, I don't
- 30:49Speaker 4: know who I am.
- 30:50Speaker 3: So yeah, and then I picked out I got him
- 30:52Speaker 3: in a really like sexy black like suit with like
- 30:54Speaker 3: a mesh like tank top underneath. So I was like,
- 30:57Speaker 3: you're hot, let's show it off. And we walked out there.
- 30:59Speaker 3: He was so nervous, and I remember walking out there
- 31:02Speaker 3: and I'm wearing like this like dope like linen like suit,
- 31:04Speaker 3: and I was working with Erica Jane. We're coasting that
- 31:08Speaker 3: together with a couple other people, and I said, grab
- 31:11Speaker 3: my hand and when I when I wake at you,
- 31:14Speaker 3: lean in and give me a kiss, because I'm like,
- 31:16Speaker 3: this is what the pop rozi, the press, They're going
- 31:18Speaker 3: to love this, right, So he does, he gives me
- 31:19Speaker 3: a kiss. That picture went everywhere. It was featured in
- 31:22Speaker 3: so many different outlets. And the next year Billboard Music
- 31:26Speaker 3: Awards were doing their promos for like the New Show,
- 31:29Speaker 3: and their whole theme for the promo is love is
- 31:31Speaker 3: in the Air, and it shows like couples from past
- 31:33Speaker 3: Billboard Music Awards and it was Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton,
- 31:37Speaker 3: John Legend and Chrissy Teakan and a meal at me.
- 31:40Speaker 1: You've made it, I know, and we're like.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Wait, what, Like that's that's wild. Yeah, So that was
- 31:47Speaker 3: sort of our like because that's a queer person if
- 31:50Speaker 3: you kind of come out a lot, especially if you're
- 31:52Speaker 3: in like a certain industry, like you come out over
- 31:53Speaker 3: and over and over again. And we've kind of feel
- 31:56Speaker 3: like that was like another coming out for us, and
- 31:58Speaker 3: from that point forward, like let's just do stuff together,
- 32:01Speaker 3: not being afraid and just go yeah.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Well, okay, So, aj, when when did you come out?
- 32:08Speaker 3: I've been out. Gosh, I've been out for twenty two
- 32:11Speaker 3: years almost.
- 32:12Speaker 1: You're from like a little town right, Ohio.
- 32:15Speaker 3: Down Ohio?
- 32:16Speaker 1: Okay, yep, Ohio. So were you living in la when
- 32:20Speaker 1: when you came out or no?
- 32:22Speaker 3: I No, I was still in college. So I was
- 32:24Speaker 3: a sophomore at the University of Toledo at the time.
- 32:27Speaker 3: I had gone there actually to run track, got sort
- 32:30Speaker 3: of overwhelmed by it all, and I ended up playing
- 32:32Speaker 3: volleyball in college for two years. And my sophomore year
- 32:36Speaker 3: I actually came out at the college. And this is
- 32:38Speaker 3: so funny. Do you know Jonathan Bennett. I'm sure you do. Yes,
- 32:41Speaker 3: Jonathan Bennett, the actor. So yeah, mean girls, And yeah,
- 32:44Speaker 3: he's getting married to our friend James next month.
- 32:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 32:46Speaker 3: So Jonathan and I were friends in high school.
- 32:48Speaker 2: Wow.
- 32:49Speaker 3: And Jonathan, Yeah, Jonathan actually was good friends with my
- 32:52Speaker 3: cousin Betsy. Betsy it's a very Ohio name, and we
- 32:56Speaker 3: were hanging out at her graduation party. She's a year
- 32:59Speaker 3: Olderly he's like, oh, your cousin AJ is gay, by
- 33:01Speaker 3: the way, and she's like, no, he's not, and he's like, yeah,
- 33:04Speaker 3: he is. And I was like and he clocked me totally.
- 33:08Speaker 3: And he ended up being one of my very first
- 33:10Speaker 3: friends ever. And so he and his group of friends
- 33:12Speaker 3: sort of took me under their wing and we became friends.
- 33:15Speaker 3: When I was, you know, a high school going into college.
- 33:17Speaker 3: I was about nineteen twenty years old when I actually
- 33:19Speaker 3: really came out, and so, yeah, so I came out,
- 33:23Speaker 3: then dropped out of college for a couple of years
- 33:25Speaker 3: because I really just was struggling with it and my
- 33:27Speaker 3: family wasn't really that cool with it, and I kind
- 33:29Speaker 3: of went into a pretty deep depression for a little bit,
- 33:32Speaker 3: but ended up getting back into college, transferred to Ohio State,
- 33:35Speaker 3: graduated from there, and then as soon as I did that,
- 33:37Speaker 3: I moved to New York for a year. Then I
- 33:39Speaker 3: moved out here fifteen years ago.
- 33:40Speaker 1: So yeah, yeah, and I know when I asked these questions,
- 33:45Speaker 1: I feel like it's such a and I'm not minimizing
- 33:48Speaker 1: it in my mind because I grew up in Utah
- 33:51Speaker 1: and most people don't know this. We have one of
- 33:54Speaker 1: the largest gay pride parades per capitat. It is in
- 33:58Speaker 1: Salt Lake, which was like a very moment for me,
- 34:00Speaker 1: you know, coming from Utah. And so when people ask
- 34:03Speaker 1: these questions, I'm like, I feel like it's so dated
- 34:06Speaker 1: to still be talking about this being a thing. And
- 34:09Speaker 1: then I feel like we still have to have the
- 34:11Speaker 1: conversation because you're talking about your family struggled with it.
- 34:15Speaker 1: I've had friends and their families struggle with it. Emil,
- 34:19Speaker 1: you're from a family, your father's a pastor. Your mother,
- 34:22Speaker 1: I believe you said, is Jamaican and aj was you
- 34:26Speaker 1: know the first that was that your first love, your
- 34:29Speaker 1: only love, and it was when you came out, Like
- 34:31Speaker 1: what was that like it?
- 34:32Speaker 4: And you know another before and before he kind of
- 34:35Speaker 4: or I don't know if it was you might have
- 34:37Speaker 4: we might have done the boyfriend tag. And then after
- 34:39Speaker 4: we did the boyfriend tag on my channel, people were
- 34:41Speaker 4: kind of asking for the coming out story and so
- 34:43Speaker 4: I did, like the video explain my coming out story,
- 34:46Speaker 4: and I think for me, it was definitely difficult because
- 34:50Speaker 4: I just have a super religious family, and I was
- 34:52Speaker 4: terrified and I was honestly prepared to just live in
- 34:55Speaker 4: the closet for my whole life because there's just so
- 34:57Speaker 4: many layers of feeling like you're going to hell, feeling
- 35:00Speaker 4: like you're being just like was the family going to think?
- 35:02Speaker 4: Like all these different things. And the network that we
- 35:06Speaker 4: met on, I actually wanted to work behind the scenes,
- 35:10Speaker 4: and they put me in front of the camera as
- 35:12Speaker 4: a host, but I was repaired again to not even
- 35:14Speaker 4: though I love being in front of the camera, I
- 35:15Speaker 4: love entertaining. I was prepared to just kind of live
- 35:17Speaker 4: in the shadows because I was so afraid of presenting myself,
- 35:21Speaker 4: Like if you watch some of the earlier videos for
- 35:23Speaker 4: the first few years.
- 35:24Speaker 3: So awkward.
- 35:25Speaker 4: I was constantly thinking about, Okay, what am I doing
- 35:28Speaker 4: with my hands? Like if I'm talking, like I want
- 35:30Speaker 4: to make sure I'm talking the straight way, and like
- 35:31Speaker 4: looking at It's just so many different things that are
- 35:33Speaker 4: going through your head.
- 35:34Speaker 1: I've seen throwbacks of you versus like how you are
- 35:37Speaker 1: yeah today, and there is a huge difference.
- 35:40Speaker 4: It's wild. Like I was so I was so afraid
- 35:43Speaker 4: to be who I actually am and just whenever you
- 35:46Speaker 4: live in this space of inauthenticity, I think one people
- 35:49Speaker 4: can read that and then once you truly just because
- 35:51Speaker 4: regardless of I think, I don't think coming out is dated.
- 35:56Speaker 4: And I only say that because there's so many people
- 35:59Speaker 4: who are not living in la or a.
- 36:01Speaker 1: Big stiene what I mean.
- 36:03Speaker 4: They still need to hear these stories. They need to
- 36:05Speaker 4: hear how we navigated this, because it's so easy to say, oh,
- 36:07Speaker 4: we come such a long way, when there's still kids
- 36:10Speaker 4: who are struggling with this and who need to have
- 36:13Speaker 4: somebody who look up to or hear a story to say, oh,
- 36:16Speaker 4: maybe if I take this router, I see how A
- 36:18Speaker 4: mill did it or how aj did it.
- 36:20Speaker 3: This gives me hope because for every like it's great
- 36:22Speaker 3: to see shows like Euphoria and Saved by the Belt.
- 36:25Speaker 3: The way they handled Josie Toto's story as a transgender
- 36:29Speaker 3: woman as an actress is really beautiful and it seems
- 36:31Speaker 3: like they just kind of like, I love it. It's
- 36:33Speaker 3: great that like this younger generation will be like the
- 36:36Speaker 3: kind of like brush past it and it is one
- 36:37Speaker 3: of this. It doesn't need to be a big thing.
- 36:40Speaker 3: But the reality is, you know, I host a national
- 36:43Speaker 3: talk show, a queer talk show every single morning on
- 36:46Speaker 3: Channel Q called The Morning Bee. Right, and we're the
- 36:48Speaker 3: first and only LGBTQ plus talk radio station in the
- 36:53Speaker 3: entire country in twenty twenty two, we're the only ones
- 36:55Speaker 3: still and I'm very proud of that. But I mean,
- 36:59Speaker 3: right now, in Florida, you know, Governor DeSantis and this
- 37:03Speaker 3: Republican allieser are pushing that don't Say Gay bill, making
- 37:06Speaker 3: it illegal to say the word gay in schools in
- 37:08Speaker 3: the entire state of Florida. And because of that, also,
- 37:11Speaker 3: Tennessee just just brought forth legislation this week, and other
- 37:14Speaker 3: states across the country now doing the exact same thing.
- 37:16Speaker 3: They're trying to make it illegal to say the word
- 37:19Speaker 3: gay in any context. They talk about your gay uncle,
- 37:23Speaker 3: your gay aunts, your gay dad, like your gay friend.
- 37:26Speaker 3: They're trying to make it illegal to even say the
- 37:28Speaker 3: word in school. And we're talking kay through twelve. So
- 37:32Speaker 3: it might seem like we've come so far, and we
- 37:34Speaker 3: have in some ways, but that, by no means doesn't
- 37:38Speaker 3: mean that like the coming out story, it's different now
- 37:40Speaker 3: maybe for some people, but where I come from, it's
- 37:44Speaker 3: just as hard to come out today. As it probably
- 37:47Speaker 3: was when I came out twenty years ago, and that's problematic.
- 37:50Speaker 1: You both put that so beautifully, and that's exactly like
- 37:54Speaker 1: like you said, not everyone's living in Los Angeles, where
- 37:57Speaker 1: you know, we're out here, we're being exactly who we are.
- 38:00Speaker 1: We forget that the little dynamics that we have, the
- 38:05Speaker 1: friend groups, the family where we come from. It's still
- 38:08Speaker 1: a huge thing. And so when I say it seems dated,
- 38:13Speaker 1: I know that it's not, but it should be.
- 38:16Speaker 3: Oh I wish it were right. I know we can
- 38:19Speaker 3: have and if we could have big pride parades in
- 38:22Speaker 3: very Mormon Salt Lake City, we could we could start
- 38:24Speaker 3: doing more all over the country.
- 38:26Speaker 1: So yeah, well, I think that your talk show that's amazing.
- 38:30Speaker 1: I mean, it's crazy that it's twenty twenty two and
- 38:32Speaker 1: it's the only one in the country. And you know,
- 38:37Speaker 1: I am definitely excited for people to hear this podcast
- 38:41Speaker 1: because I mean, look at the platform that you guys
- 38:44Speaker 1: are on and what you're doing, and then you're such
- 38:47Speaker 1: an ally to the LGBTQ plus community. I mean, you're
- 38:51Speaker 1: really doing it all and looking fabulous wile while you're
- 38:58Speaker 1: I wish my listeners could see you guys right now,
- 39:00Speaker 1: not see me, but see you guys. I mean every
- 39:04Speaker 1: straight woman. I'm sure when you guys walk into a place,
- 39:06Speaker 1: they're like, damn it.
- 39:08Speaker 4: What's funny? Becaus we sold. My best friend Drew also,
- 39:13Speaker 4: her birthday is coming up, having birthday. Whenever I hang
- 39:15Speaker 4: out with her, because granted I both of us, we
- 39:19Speaker 4: are kind of masculine presenting for the most part, and
- 39:22Speaker 4: so people don't necessarily look at us sometimes don't necessarily
- 39:25Speaker 4: look at us all the time and say, oh, I
- 39:27Speaker 4: can just see it. They're gay. And so when I'm
- 39:29Speaker 4: hanging out with her, especially if I'm in like a
- 39:31Speaker 4: muscle tank or whatever and we're hanging out. I was
- 39:34Speaker 4: at her apartment helping her film this audition the other day,
- 39:37Speaker 4: and I was in my tank topping some shorts and
- 39:40Speaker 4: there's this guy in her building. Hope, I don't think
- 39:42Speaker 4: she'll care what I'm telling you. There's this guy in
- 39:44Speaker 4: her building that she has a crush on. So she
- 39:47Speaker 4: literally sees him and she knocks in the window and
- 39:49Speaker 4: says hi, and then she's like, oh shit, you're with me,
- 39:51Speaker 4: flame out, flame out. So I know whenever she says that,
- 39:54Speaker 4: I'm like, yes, I just do something so like they
- 39:56Speaker 4: know that I'm gay because she's had guys before. They
- 40:00Speaker 4: see me with her and they think that we're a couple.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Right, Every gay man, every gay man in America who
- 40:05Speaker 3: is a little bit who's maybe not totally like feminine
- 40:08Speaker 3: presenting right now, could relate to that. Yeah, Like, listen, honey,
- 40:10Speaker 3: I can be as gay as the day as long.
- 40:12Speaker 4: We have a wig drawer, we have feather BoA's Hills.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Absolutely we do, and we love everything of it. But
- 40:19Speaker 3: day in day out, like we are just who we are,
- 40:21Speaker 3: right and we don't have a ton of super feminine
- 40:23Speaker 3: qualities naturally, So sometimes we have to kind of help
- 40:27Speaker 3: our friends.
- 40:28Speaker 4: Out and.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Way, yeah, don't be a cog blog for the friend,
- 40:34Speaker 1: like do something to let them know we are not together.
- 40:37Speaker 1: So I have to go back to what you said.
- 40:39Speaker 1: You said that you guys, and I relate to this
- 40:43Speaker 1: because even though I'm on reality TV, you know, you
- 40:45Speaker 1: guys are hosts and when people watch you, they they
- 40:47Speaker 1: almost expect for you to share every single part about
- 40:50Speaker 1: your life. And there's been times on vander Pump where
- 40:53Speaker 1: I'm like, I have a therapy session, and you know,
- 40:55Speaker 1: the cameras want to be there and they're like, but
- 40:57Speaker 1: this is your real life, And I say, in real life,
- 40:59Speaker 1: I don't invite anyone to my therapy sessions, so get
- 41:01Speaker 1: the fuck out.
- 41:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Yeah, so I love that you You still keep that
- 41:06Speaker 1: those moments to yourselves. But you said you were sitting
- 41:09Speaker 1: on the bed naked talking to each other. I'm newly single.
- 41:14Speaker 1: I'm trying to bag me a boo. Do I need
- 41:16Speaker 1: to sit on a bed naked and tell him my deepest,
- 41:18Speaker 1: darkest secrets to bag a good man?
- 41:19Speaker 4: Not yet?
- 41:21Speaker 1: How long?
- 41:22Speaker 4: Yeah, it depends, so I would. I would have.
- 41:24Speaker 3: That's not a date one.
- 41:25Speaker 4: Yeah, we we did that like year five or six. Nothing,
- 41:32Speaker 4: I have to wait that long because we we do
- 41:34Speaker 4: like for the people our friends who are in relationships,
- 41:37Speaker 4: we do kind of advise into our listeners. We tell
- 41:39Speaker 4: them that it's a beautiful thing to do because it
- 41:42Speaker 4: was scary. We were built things to each other. We
- 41:44Speaker 4: never like said publicly what we were build, but we
- 41:46Speaker 4: both re built things to each other that we were
- 41:48Speaker 4: so terrified to reveal to each other. Obviously, when it
- 41:50Speaker 4: came to desires and fantasies, like you talk about the
- 41:53Speaker 4: things that you want sexually, you're in life and it's like, oh,
- 41:56Speaker 4: that's hot.
- 41:57Speaker 3: Certain, yeah, sure.
- 41:59Speaker 4: But then when you get to like things that maybe
- 42:01Speaker 4: you've done in the past you never told your partner,
- 42:03Speaker 4: then it's kind of it's a vulnerable position. But I
- 42:06Speaker 4: think what made it beautiful is it was hard to
- 42:10Speaker 4: hear some of those things on both sides. But after
- 42:12Speaker 4: a few days, when you sit with that, it's like,
- 42:16Speaker 4: if you were willing to bear your soul and trust
- 42:18Speaker 4: me with this information and I also received that from you,
- 42:21Speaker 4: and we're literally laying everything out on the table, it
- 42:25Speaker 4: just creates this bonding and this.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Yeah you've got there's got to be mutual trust of.
- 42:31Speaker 4: Yeah, it could go go you go south.
- 42:34Speaker 3: You can go two ways. If one person is ready
- 42:36Speaker 3: to open up and be vulnerable and reveal like maybe, hey,
- 42:39Speaker 3: maybe I messed up earlier in the relationship, or maybe
- 42:41Speaker 3: I did something that isn't really like in the highest
- 42:44Speaker 3: version of myself, and maybe I disrespected you or a
- 42:47Speaker 3: relationship in some way, shape or form. And if one
- 42:49Speaker 3: person is willing to admit that and to say that,
- 42:52Speaker 3: and the other person's not willing to receive it or
- 42:54Speaker 3: allow space for forgiveness, you're doomed.
- 42:57Speaker 5: Wow.
- 42:57Speaker 3: So and and and it's not that there was like cheat,
- 43:00Speaker 3: you know, all that kind of stuff going on in
- 43:01Speaker 3: a relationship, but there was there was like very like
- 43:03Speaker 3: borderline stuff happening. And I messed up early on in
- 43:06Speaker 3: a relationship a little bit, to be honest, and and
- 43:09Speaker 3: it was cheating, and it was in my mind it
- 43:11Speaker 3: was sort of justified at the time because we were
- 43:13Speaker 3: still kind of going through some stuff and I wasn't
- 43:15Speaker 3: really sure if it was a forever situation for me.
- 43:17Speaker 4: Like full of transparency. I didn't know this, but at
- 43:20Speaker 4: the time when that situation occurred, he was pretty much
- 43:23Speaker 4: getting ready to break.
- 43:23Speaker 3: Up with you.
- 43:24Speaker 4: Yeah, And so I can see how in his mind
- 43:27Speaker 4: he might not have seased like I'm about to leave
- 43:29Speaker 4: this guy anyway. He didn't know is I'm a millionaire
- 43:32Speaker 4: junior and I was prepared to fight for events. Yeah.
- 43:34Speaker 4: I had a little tricks when I realized he was
- 43:37Speaker 4: checking out, But.
- 43:37Speaker 3: I didn't know. We lived together briefly at the beginning
- 43:40Speaker 3: of our relationship, and part of the thing was like
- 43:41Speaker 3: I broke up. We broke up for like what eight
- 43:43Speaker 3: hours was yeah, and then in my mind, I'm like, okay, well,
- 43:46Speaker 3: I'm checked out. I'm done at this relationship and it's
- 43:48Speaker 3: just a matter of time before he's actually officially all
- 43:50Speaker 3: the way moved.
- 43:51Speaker 4: Out, which that was too. So we moved in together
- 43:53Speaker 4: after maybe nine months of dating. And we moved in
- 43:56Speaker 4: together at the time back in twenty thirteen, for financially,
- 43:59Speaker 4: we were both broke.
- 44:00Speaker 1: He was a bar so I was gonna say nine
- 44:01Speaker 1: months is quick.
- 44:02Speaker 4: Yeah. It was like one of those situations where he
- 44:05Speaker 4: was a bartender and doing the hosting dream. I was
- 44:07Speaker 4: working for a production company and doing the hosting dream,
- 44:09Speaker 4: but neither like I was making like one hundred dollars
- 44:12Speaker 4: a day after tax nothing, So we were just broke
- 44:15Speaker 4: and we were like, oh, you know, you're over here
- 44:18Speaker 4: all the time, so.
- 44:18Speaker 3: Why don't you move reason to ever move in?
- 44:20Speaker 4: No, no, no, no, no no. I will say this to couples
- 44:23Speaker 4: if you are in a relationship, you guys just started dating,
- 44:25Speaker 4: It doesn't matter if you're over at your partner's place
- 44:27Speaker 4: every single day, you visiting them and stay in their space,
- 44:30Speaker 4: versus you actually moving in completely changes that you never.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Brush and a clean pair of underwear. That's fine, but
- 44:36Speaker 3: don't move in the right absolutely absolutely right.
- 44:39Speaker 4: And there was a roommate too. It was just a
- 44:41Speaker 4: lot of la to it.
- 44:42Speaker 1: Chaos, that is chaos. Okay, So you got engaged when
- 44:48Speaker 1: did you get engaged?
- 44:50Speaker 4: Christmas of twenty twenty?
- 44:52Speaker 1: Okay? And did you have plans to get married? Did
- 44:54Speaker 1: the pandemic mess up the wedding plans at all? Or
- 44:56Speaker 1: did you always want? I mean, you guys have been
- 44:58Speaker 1: together a long time.
- 45:00Speaker 3: Kind of honestly, like, what's the rush? Right?
- 45:03Speaker 4: So that's a common law married by now, well, I
- 45:06Speaker 4: don't know.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Does that always does that exist in California? I don't know.
- 45:11Speaker 3: I don't know what that really is, but I will
- 45:12Speaker 3: say that listen, Yeah, it's been a long time, but
- 45:15Speaker 3: you alsotart to think that we have not legally been
- 45:18Speaker 3: able to get married only for like the last five
- 45:20Speaker 3: or six years. So the first few years of our relationship,
- 45:24Speaker 3: marriage was never on our radar because it wasn't legal.
- 45:27Speaker 3: So it's not like maybe maybe you grew up having
- 45:30Speaker 3: an idea or your girlfriends grew up having an idea
- 45:32Speaker 3: of like marriage someday. Right, you have this picture, the
- 45:34Speaker 3: wedding dress, the big thing whatever. We didn't have that
- 45:37Speaker 3: because we never thought that was going to be a possibility. Right.
- 45:40Speaker 3: So so then all of a sudden a few years ago,
- 45:42Speaker 3: we get we get the option. I had planned actually
- 45:46Speaker 3: to propose a bunch of different ways, because he let
- 45:50Speaker 3: me know for a long time that he went in
- 45:52Speaker 3: something big and like over the top.
- 45:54Speaker 4: Is how like not like a flash dance models, Like
- 45:58Speaker 4: we gotta be a flash model.
- 46:00Speaker 3: So I thought I had to do something really really cool,
- 46:01Speaker 3: and I'm like, Okay, well, he wants to make content
- 46:03Speaker 3: out of this, so this has to be a YouTube video,
- 46:05Speaker 3: So what can I do? And I had, I had,
- 46:08Speaker 3: I talked to my friends at Dick Clark. We thought
- 46:10Speaker 3: about maybe doing it on the Billboard Music Awards Red
- 46:13Speaker 3: carpet that spring a couple of years back in twenty nine.
- 46:16Speaker 3: You're twenty twenty, I think twenty twenty one, and we
- 46:19Speaker 3: thought about doing that, and then that got canceled. And
- 46:22Speaker 3: then I was talking to my team over at Wendy
- 46:25Speaker 3: Williams and she was going to help me propose to
- 46:27Speaker 3: him live on the air, on like a Valentine's Day
- 46:29Speaker 3: episode or something. And then also I'm friends with Genie
- 46:34Speaker 3: May and I've worked with her in the past, and
- 46:36Speaker 3: I've also worked with Garcel and Lannie and he's on
- 46:39Speaker 3: the reel. He's been there for a couple three years now,
- 46:41Speaker 3: and so then I thought, okay, maybe I can reach
- 46:44Speaker 3: out a genie and we can do like maybe a
- 46:46Speaker 3: proposal on the reel, like all these cool ideas that
- 46:49Speaker 3: I was running through my head, right, and then the
- 46:51Speaker 3: pandemic happens, and then I'm like, oh, so I just
- 46:54Speaker 3: kind of waited, waited, waited, and I was like, okay, well,
- 46:56Speaker 3: this is only going to be like two weeks, like
- 46:57Speaker 3: everybody thought it was gonna be two weeks when I started, right,
- 47:00Speaker 3: And so then two weeks goes by, and then two
- 47:01Speaker 3: months go by, then six months go by it and I'm
- 47:03Speaker 3: like okay, and all of a sudden, the whole year's
- 47:05Speaker 3: gone by. I'm like, I haven't proposed this whole time. Why,
- 47:09Speaker 3: Like what am I waiting for him? Waiting for the
- 47:10Speaker 3: pandemic to be over. It could be over in another day,
- 47:13Speaker 3: or it could be ten more years. We didn't know.
- 47:15Speaker 4: Hey, we could still be in it now.
- 47:16Speaker 3: This is like pre vaccine, pre everything, right, And so
- 47:20Speaker 3: finally I decided to do it on Christmas morning and
- 47:24Speaker 3: involve our parents, both sides, and so we had we
- 47:28Speaker 3: had a zoom setup so we could record it, and
- 47:31Speaker 3: then I.
- 47:31Speaker 4: Had we were supposed to COVID ruin that we were
- 47:33Speaker 4: supposed to spend the holidays with our family, were supposed
- 47:35Speaker 4: to go to my family for Thanksgiving, his family for Christmas,
- 47:39Speaker 4: and so at the time I didn't really think anything
- 47:41Speaker 4: of it because we were already planning on doing that
- 47:43Speaker 4: zoom since we weren't able to spend holidays with them.
- 47:45Speaker 4: But it turned out that he was proposing it was
- 47:48Speaker 4: really sweet.
- 47:49Speaker 3: Yeah, but we didn't.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Yeah, we didn't. We didn't. As far as like actual
- 47:52Speaker 4: wedding planning goes, I don't think that our wedding planning
- 47:57Speaker 4: hasn't like COVID hasn't really ruined that it's tried multiple
- 48:00Speaker 4: times stressful though, because we're doing a destination wedding and
- 48:05Speaker 4: so we have a lot of people who are traveling
- 48:07Speaker 4: and when you see, oh, now there's this new variant
- 48:10Speaker 4: and it's spiking Andy, We're like, oh God. So it's
- 48:12Speaker 4: like there's this anxiety that bubbles up because we're trying
- 48:16Speaker 4: to move forward. We're trying to just move forward and
- 48:18Speaker 4: just trust everything's in the workout, but also like the
- 48:20Speaker 4: COVID of it all Yeah.
- 48:21Speaker 3: Also asking our family to you. I had that. My
- 48:24Speaker 3: dad is seventy years old and got a passport for
- 48:26Speaker 3: the first time in his life. Wow, the Mexico for
- 48:29Speaker 3: our wedding. So to ask people to go to a
- 48:30Speaker 3: foreign country, uh, during a pandemic into like drug cartel land.
- 48:36Speaker 3: I mean.
- 48:39Speaker 4: It says literally, we have family members who have never
- 48:41Speaker 4: been to Mexico. Some of them never trial out of
- 48:43Speaker 4: the country, and because they're in their small communities and
- 48:46Speaker 4: they don't travel, they only see what they see on TV.
- 48:49Speaker 4: And sometimes they're looking at the headlines all negative. And
- 48:52Speaker 4: so I've had to we both had to tell some
- 48:53Speaker 4: family members. Okay, so you're saying that there's a shooting
- 48:56Speaker 4: or drug cartel in Mexico. Okay, look down the street
- 48:59Speaker 4: in Atlanta. Yeah, literally where I'm from, like or look
- 49:02Speaker 4: at LA, Like any community you're in, you can find
- 49:05Speaker 4: that if you're looking for.
- 49:06Speaker 3: Literally, we're a friend of ours was like mugged recently
- 49:09Speaker 3: in LA in Beverly Hills.
- 49:11Speaker 1: So wait, you guys, you and your families need a show,
- 49:15Speaker 1: and it should be based on getting them to Mexico
- 49:18Speaker 1: for the wedding.
- 49:20Speaker 3: I would watch God's Ears.
- 49:22Speaker 4: I would watch that and we have. We've been pretty
- 49:25Speaker 4: open on social media about the struggles of dealing with
- 49:28Speaker 4: family members who aren't as supportive as we thought. So
- 49:31Speaker 4: and I don't know, I don't care talking about this publicly.
- 49:33Speaker 4: I I've said to them, I haven't talked to some
- 49:36Speaker 4: of those members, but to anytime I'm on television, on
- 49:40Speaker 4: a hosting, on a show, or they see me on TV,
- 49:43Speaker 4: Oh my god, a mil We're so proud of you,
- 49:45Speaker 4: like paragraphs, oh this is my nephew, or we go
- 49:47Speaker 4: visit and they make me dinner and they love me.
- 49:50Speaker 4: But then when it comes to the wedding stuff, all
- 49:52Speaker 4: of a sudden, we're getting like the client rvps, and
- 49:54Speaker 4: then we're finding out from other family members the reason
- 49:56Speaker 4: why they're not supportive, and I'm like, so, I think
- 50:00Speaker 4: that really messes with my brain and it makes it
- 50:03Speaker 4: feel as if if I wasn't on TV, if I
- 50:06Speaker 4: wasn't in the career that I'm in, would you still
- 50:08Speaker 4: support me or be excited to have me as your
- 50:11Speaker 4: nephew or do you only still tolerate me because I'm
- 50:14Speaker 4: that famous And I'm not even famous, but that's how
- 50:17Speaker 4: they view when I go out because your fiance is
- 50:20Speaker 4: on Wendy William watch it.
- 50:21Speaker 3: So it's tricky to kind of realize what family members
- 50:26Speaker 3: actually think of us. And it doesn't mean they don't
- 50:28Speaker 3: love us, but it also hurts like your love doesn't trump,
- 50:31Speaker 3: like your beliefs. You can't support my own sister, my
- 50:33Speaker 3: own full blooded sister is not coming to the wedding
- 50:36Speaker 3: because she just can't get there. She just has new
- 50:39Speaker 3: faith that she's come into in recent years and and
- 50:43Speaker 3: all of a sudden she believes God, you know, did
- 50:45Speaker 3: not make me this way, and she can't support it.
- 50:46Speaker 3: And so that's that's been devastating. But we've tried really
- 50:50Speaker 3: hard to not take it as personally as humanly possible,
- 50:54Speaker 3: even though that's not possible, but to try to focus
- 50:57Speaker 3: on all of the people who are willing to fly
- 50:59Speaker 3: before country.
- 51:02Speaker 5: Of them.
- 51:03Speaker 4: Want people who are supportive of us there, because those
- 51:05Speaker 4: are people when you're going through any rocky moments in
- 51:08Speaker 4: your marriage, you want people who were there who know
- 51:11Speaker 4: the foundation and are there to support you through those times,
- 51:13Speaker 4: and not people who are just there pretending like they
- 51:16Speaker 4: are right.
- 51:17Speaker 1: And it would it would ruin the entire celebration having
- 51:21Speaker 1: someone there that really didn't support the love. It's it's
- 51:24Speaker 1: like I wish you wouldn't have come, And yeah, I
- 51:28Speaker 1: have so much respect for you both, and I'm so
- 51:31Speaker 1: happy for you, and and just the the uphill climb
- 51:35Speaker 1: that it seems like, you know, being in Hollywood doing
- 51:38Speaker 1: what you do for a living on top of you know,
- 51:41Speaker 1: dealing with a wedding that family members are not supportive of.
- 51:44Speaker 1: It's something that a lot of us can't fathom. But
- 51:47Speaker 1: you know, I'm happy to have you on the podcast
- 51:49Speaker 1: to like have people feel less alone. And before I
- 51:52Speaker 1: let you guys go, that wedding's going to be fabulous,
- 51:55Speaker 1: I want to like.
- 51:55Speaker 3: Commend you though for saying that though, because as an ally,
- 51:58Speaker 3: that's a really beautiful thing to say, because just that
- 52:00Speaker 3: acknowledgment of I can't even fathom, like those words coming
- 52:04Speaker 3: from an ally who's maybe not a queer person to
- 52:07Speaker 3: say that a couple like us who's kind of in
- 52:09Speaker 3: this like vulnerable sort of emotional state means a lot,
- 52:12Speaker 3: not just to us, but your listeners who might be
- 52:15Speaker 3: you know, cleer and maybe wherever they are on their
- 52:18Speaker 3: own journey, words like that go a long way. So
- 52:20Speaker 3: I just want to say thank you, for that.
- 52:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I appreciate you saying that I do whatever I
- 52:26Speaker 1: possibly can, but I will never pretend like I can
- 52:29Speaker 1: understand because I can't. I'm a white woman who identifies
- 52:33Speaker 1: as a straight person. I don't have adversity in many
- 52:38Speaker 1: ways that others do. So thank you for sharing and
- 52:41Speaker 1: being so vulnerable on this podcast. And I think the
- 52:44Speaker 1: one thing that I would like you both to share
- 52:47Speaker 1: before I let you sign off and you don't have
- 52:49Speaker 1: to look at me anymore. You know, these these young
- 52:55Speaker 1: kids are you know, maybe someone older who who feels
- 52:58Speaker 1: so inspired to come out and just be who they
- 53:01Speaker 1: are in these small places. They see you, but then
- 53:04Speaker 1: they realize where they really are stuck. What is your
- 53:09Speaker 1: advice to them? Because you've both come from from backgrounds
- 53:12Speaker 1: like that, and look at where you are now, I
- 53:14Speaker 1: think people would appreciate hearing your advice.
- 53:16Speaker 3: I would say that you're not as alone as you think.
- 53:20Speaker 3: There are other queer people in your community, and as
- 53:24Speaker 3: safely and as comfortably as you can as you navigate
- 53:27Speaker 3: those early those early days, find them trying to try
- 53:31Speaker 3: to find a way to find them, because it's so
- 53:34Speaker 3: important that whatever it is that makes you you in
- 53:39Speaker 3: life and That could be your sexuality, it could be
- 53:41Speaker 3: your desires, it could be your creativity. Whatever it is,
- 53:44Speaker 3: whatever your outlet ther thing is, you need to get
- 53:47Speaker 3: it out of you. And I believe that we're put
- 53:49Speaker 3: on this planet to share whatever that gift is, right,
- 53:52Speaker 3: and you can't share it if you're hiding it inside
- 53:55Speaker 3: of you. So find one person, and that person will
- 54:00Speaker 3: lead you to another person and lead you to another person.
- 54:02Speaker 3: And that one person, oftentimes is maybe a girlfriend at
- 54:06Speaker 3: a school or an aunt or like that one person
- 54:09Speaker 3: who's a little more kind and a little more compassionate,
- 54:11Speaker 3: a little more empathetic. And if they're that way about
- 54:14Speaker 3: other things, chances are they might be that way about
- 54:17Speaker 3: you too, And that can open you up to like
- 54:19Speaker 3: a whole different world, because I get it, Like small
- 54:23Speaker 3: towns are scary and they're not always the most accepting,
- 54:26Speaker 3: the most loving of anybody who's different, but also also
- 54:32Speaker 3: they can surprise you, Like my small town is pretty
- 54:35Speaker 3: like messed up in some ways, but in some ways
- 54:37Speaker 3: there are people there that are really incredible and really
- 54:39Speaker 3: wonderful and loving and they just want an opportunity to
- 54:43Speaker 3: love on you. So give them the opportunity, but do
- 54:46Speaker 3: it on a timeline in a way that feels safe
- 54:49Speaker 3: and authentic to you.
- 54:51Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's beautiful. And I think for me
- 54:55Speaker 4: and I can only come from the experience of if
- 54:58Speaker 4: I were to talk to my younger, So I think
- 55:02Speaker 4: the biggest thing I would say is you can't focus
- 55:06Speaker 4: on other people's opinions of you. I know, for me,
- 55:11Speaker 4: when I was in the closet, I was so focused
- 55:13Speaker 4: on do they know I'm gay? Like constantly thinking about
- 55:17Speaker 4: all these different things. And when you focus so much
- 55:20Speaker 4: on what other people think and you aren't truly being
- 55:24Speaker 4: who you are, and even if it is like scary,
- 55:26Speaker 4: and I'm not saying if if you aren't in a
- 55:28Speaker 4: place that you feel safe being exclusively expressive of your sexuality,
- 55:33Speaker 4: I completely get that safety comes first. But I was
- 55:37Speaker 4: hiding in so many ways where I felt like I
- 55:41Speaker 4: had to create a version of myself that it's just
- 55:46Speaker 4: it's hard for me to look back at that person,
- 55:49Speaker 4: knowing the hurt and the pain that I was dealing
- 55:51Speaker 4: with every single day. And so I would just I
- 55:55Speaker 4: would just kind of similar to AJ in terms of
- 55:57Speaker 4: if you can find that outlet or you can find
- 55:59Speaker 4: that person. For me, it was TV shows. So it
- 56:02Speaker 4: was watching like will like all of me. It was
- 56:08Speaker 4: the Grassy also like watching the Grassy and scene I
- 56:11Speaker 4: think it was. It was Marco. Marco was like the
- 56:13Speaker 4: gay character. Like if you can find some type of
- 56:15Speaker 4: way to relate or now, I mean we're older, but
- 56:18Speaker 4: now you can get on YouTube, we're snapchat whatever and
- 56:21Speaker 4: see queer people who may be in an area that
- 56:25Speaker 4: you're not from, but you can see how they express
- 56:27Speaker 4: themselves and what they deal with. Then you hear their stories.
- 56:29Speaker 3: Social media is really yeah, not always for the best,
- 56:32Speaker 3: but it has changed the game and.
- 56:33Speaker 4: All find the way. I I don't necessarily like saying
- 56:35Speaker 4: it gets better because life is hard so many ways,
- 56:39Speaker 4: but just know that if you truly focus on being
- 56:43Speaker 4: the authentic person and following that path, that you can
- 56:48Speaker 4: find joy. It may not be easy every single day,
- 56:51Speaker 4: but you can find joy.
- 56:52Speaker 3: And also, if nothing else, just listen to the Confessor
- 56:54Speaker 3: mess podcast because it's queer as Fun and we have
- 56:57Speaker 3: a lot of really fantastic guests on there, and you'll
- 56:59Speaker 3: feel represented. You do like, you'll feel like you'll feel
- 57:02Speaker 3: like your life is nearly as message you thought.
- 57:04Speaker 1: Yeah right, I love that. Oh my gosh, y'all give
- 57:07Speaker 1: me chills. I'm like Beyon Honor to have you on
- 57:09Speaker 1: the give Them La La podcast. And where can people
- 57:11Speaker 1: find you?
- 57:12Speaker 4: Guys, you can find me, I think everywhere at a
- 57:15Speaker 4: Millionaire Junior maybe on TikTok at a million is Junior
- 57:18Speaker 4: thirty one because I can't get my name for some reason.
- 57:20Speaker 4: And then the podcast is at confessor mess podcast on
- 57:24Speaker 4: Instagram and at Confessed podcast on Twitter.
- 57:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I think just this is such a douchey thing,
- 57:29Speaker 3: but just google me, like AJ Gibson. Now go to
- 57:33Speaker 3: aj gibsontv dot com if my website. You can find
- 57:35Speaker 3: everything there. I also I'm an author. I wrote a
- 57:37Speaker 3: book called Flipping the Script. You can buy a copy there.
- 57:39Speaker 3: And there's also I'm a public speaker. I do a
- 57:41Speaker 3: lot of other side things, but a true story. I
- 57:44Speaker 3: can't get AJ Gibson on Instagram, so it's underscore AJ Gibson.
- 57:48Speaker 3: Because there's a mother in I think North Dakota whose
- 57:51Speaker 3: daughter does vallet, who has the name AJ Gibson. Her
- 57:54Speaker 3: name is not Aju, and I've tried to buy it
- 57:56Speaker 3: from her many times. She will not sell it to me.
- 57:58Speaker 3: So I'm under or Aja Gibson on Instagram.
- 58:01Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, I so relate to not being able
- 58:04Speaker 1: to get your name. It's the most annoying thing. You
- 58:07Speaker 1: guys are amazing. I hope that you enjoy the rest
- 58:09Speaker 1: of your day and thank you so much.
- 58:11Speaker 3: Thank you loves.
- 58:16Speaker 1: Before I let you guys go, I want to do
- 58:18Speaker 1: a voicemail, but I also want to remind you that
- 58:22Speaker 1: I'm going on tour. I know a lot of you
- 58:25Speaker 1: are like, you're not a comedian, you're not a performer.
- 58:27Speaker 1: What does this tour entail? Well, it entails you having
- 58:30Speaker 1: the best night of your fucking life. I promise you
- 58:34Speaker 1: that I'm going to give you all the feels between
- 58:36Speaker 1: us getting to know each other, playing games, feeling inspired.
- 58:40Speaker 1: You want me to call somebody, put them on speed dial,
- 58:44Speaker 1: because I'm about to call them for you. We have
- 58:45Speaker 1: a lot of different segments. It's going to be amazing.
- 58:48Speaker 1: We are starting off in Irvine, California, but you can't
- 58:52Speaker 1: come to that because I'm soldad motherfuckers. Then we're going
- 58:56Speaker 1: to Fort Lauderdale, Clearwater, Orlando, Atlanta, Nashville, New Orleans, Houston, Austin,
- 59:03Speaker 1: and Dallas. You can find all of these dates and
- 59:06Speaker 1: cities on my Instagram page at Lala Kent Jess. Can
- 59:10Speaker 1: you play a voicemail for me? Yes? I can.
- 59:12Speaker 5: Hey, Lala, this is Christina from West Palm Beach. I
- 59:17Speaker 5: just wanted to Colin tell you how much I love
- 59:20Speaker 5: you and how much you guys got me through the quarantine.
- 59:25Speaker 5: You and my boyfriend Vanner Pumps is what we've binge
- 59:29Speaker 5: watched during the quarantine and is is just what helped
- 59:33Speaker 5: us got to get it through. It's, I guess our
- 59:38Speaker 5: question for you that we always wonder is what is
- 59:41Speaker 5: your family's reactions to things that they see on Vandard Pumps? Again?
- 59:48Speaker 5: Love you, Thank you so much for everything and for
- 59:50Speaker 5: always being you and giving us Lala Love you.
- 59:54Speaker 1: Christina. First of all, I developed an obsession with Vanner
- 59:58Speaker 1: Bumples during Quarantine as well.
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: Well.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: I had never seen any episode or any season before
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: I entered season four because I'm just that vain. I'm like,
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: if I'm not on it, what's there to watch? Just kidding, really,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: I'm not. I started from season one and I was like,
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: this is the most amazing show and I am honored,
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: yeah to be a part of it. Yeah, you know.
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: I was like, these are the OG's and they deserve
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: so much credit because this is the best television I've
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: ever watched, So we have die in common, Christina. My
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: family doesn't watch the show. They don't know. My family
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: doesn't watch the show. And I don't even think it's
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: because they don't want to see me in certain situations,
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: because they know me. I'm the same person on television
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: that I am, you know, behind a little more sensitive.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Behind closed doors.
- 1:00:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I think you would get to if you took
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: my interactions with my family and you edit it down,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: you would probably see the same thing that you see
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: on Vanner Pumpin right right, But like there's no need
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: for them to watch it. In their minds, they're like
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: not interesting, right Yeah. Yeah, I try to get them too.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: I mean, my mom hasn't read my book. I don't
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: know that I want her to read my book, but
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: she knows everything, you know, every blow job I've ever given,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: every time I've popped off or clap back on someone.
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: Yeah, as you guys learned from last week's episode, they're
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: a very open family.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Yes, clearly we have to mention at all, so they
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: don't they don't watch, And I tell my mom about
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: things that happen, and I'm sure if she watched it
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: on TV, she may have a different reaction, like everyone
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: seeing me yeah ah, or everyone read that in your book?
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: Yes, yes, you know when you were first on the show.
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: Did they watch it?
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: And then? Oh? Nothing? No? Wow, nothing, that's cool. Like
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: I had to call my dad to fill them in
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: on me cussing too much because I got too drunk
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: on watch Wabbits Live my first time. Oh he was like,
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: first of all, what is this show you're talking about?
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: Why are you in New York? What's happening? That's good though, Yeah,
- 1:01:59Speaker 1: I just I don't think they were interested, and like,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: I just don't think. Oh it's Monday or whatever night
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: we air. Now I gotta tune in to my kid
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: on vander Pump Rules, Like my mom would much rather
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: be watching twenty twenty and Easton watches his sports and
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: my dad was like into watching CSI.
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Yeah, So I like that though, Oh, because you're right,
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: they already know you, so why watch? And then you
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: never have to worry about like ooh, maybe that scene
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: wasn't great, but my family's not gonna see it, so
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: who cares.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I wouldn't care if they did see it. Yeah,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: but it's nice because then when I call my family,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: like a lot of my cast members like, oh my
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: mom or my sister whoever is obsessing over this last episode.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: And I'm like, my mom just called me to tell
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: me that, like there's drama at her work and like
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: they're really trying to get this dog adopted.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: I love Lisa, you know.
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: So that's that, Jess. Do you want to play me
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: another voicemail before we wrap it up? Yes?
- 1:02:55Speaker 5: I do?
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: Can we wrap it up? Do you remember? Wait? What
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: is that? Season four? And Katie mall or No Christ
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: and Doni and Stossy's speech at the fucking engagement party
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: of Katie's and I'm like, can we wrap it up?
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: I would if someone did that to me at my
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: engagement party, serious, I would claw your eyes out. Oh
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: my god, god, they're so classy.
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: Can we wrap it up?
- 1:03:19Speaker 3: Love?
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: And I go, what the fuck are you talking about?
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: It icon't And then they flashed me with my drunk
- 1:03:30Speaker 6: shit sue looking hair and I'm like.
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: Anyway, next voicemail, next voicemail.
- 1:03:41Speaker 7: Hey, longline, Jess, my name is Haley from Iowa. I
- 1:03:44Speaker 7: just wanted to say I listened to your book on
- 1:03:46Speaker 7: Audible and I loved it. I want to say thank
- 1:03:48Speaker 7: you for being so unapologetically yourself. It's refreshing for reality TV.
- 1:03:53Speaker 7: My question is, if you were a housewife, what would
- 1:03:56Speaker 7: be your tagline? Thank you so much for your time,
- 1:03:59Speaker 7: have a good day.
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Oh hey, Haley, I'm in a mood today. Is there
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: any way that I could just like, you know how
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: they always like do a little flip around, couldn't I
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: just like flip around and be like, give them La
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: La Enough.
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: Fucking said, Enough fucking said, yeah, they can bleep that
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: part out. Enough said, yeah, Well that'd be good.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: That'd be good.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: Which housewife's franchise would you want to be on? Salt Lake?
- 1:04:26Speaker 3: Right?
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: Obviously, yeah, it take whatever I think to be honest,
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: But where do you want to move me? Where do
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: I fit in? Salt Lake? Would be a good one though, right,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: because a lot of times I see them arguing and
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: I'm like, Lala needs to come shut this shit down. Yeah,
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: Lala needs to come spill mad knowledge. They have Heather
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: Gay whose like voice of reason always and she makes
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: all the sense in the world, and I could watch
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: her twenty four to seven, And same with Whitney they're
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: called bad Weather. You wouldn't know that guy when you
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: don't watch bad Weather. They're such a vibe. But they
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: need la la with them.
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: Okay with with those Yes, Yes, let's function up. I
- 1:05:04Speaker 2: like that.
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: Yep, giving them all a run for their money.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: That give them Lala, Let's funck shit up.
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: That's so funny. Give them Laala, Let's funck shit up.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: That's my tagline. Good. No, next week, I'm gonna have
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: an epic tagline and I'm gonna I'm gonna tell you
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: guys what it would be. I gotta think on it.
- 1:05:21Speaker 4: Though.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Yeah, some of them are great. In others I'm like, yeah,
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: not so great. You should have told producers Wrongo, it
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: didn't happen. All right, you guys, I love you so much.
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: I hope that I see you on the Give Them
