- 0:04Retired IT analyst wins. Who wants to be a millionaire?
- 0:08Welcome to Mark and Pete and against the odds someone has
- 0:13just answered 15 questions correctly.
- 0:16Yes, this is Mark and Pete. 2 blokes with half an opinion.
- 0:21Now here's our first thought. In the hot seat, Who wants to be
- 0:26a millionaire and sit in the chair under the TV glare.
- 0:30Then when you see the question and simply stare to discover
- 0:34with despair you haven't a prayer.
- 0:37Well, maybe that's me. I probably wouldn't be able to
- 0:40answer any of the questions. Well, we'll come on to the big
- 0:43millionaire question in a minute.
- 0:45Yes. Remarkably, a retired IT analyst
- 0:48has become the 7th person to win the £1,000,000 jackpot on Who
- 0:52Wants to Be A Millionaire? It's a popular show, it's been
- 0:56broadcast all around the world and there have been various
- 0:59nations with different formats. Now Roman Debowski has said that
- 1:03winning the ITV game in the United Kingdom has really been
- 1:07unreal, as he would say, and he had to have a cup of tea
- 1:10afterwards to let it all sink in.
- 1:12Well Mr. Pete, I think I would need more than a cup of tea, I
- 1:14think a bottle of whiskey and a barrel of rum just to sort of
- 1:20get over the the winnings. But what say you about this?
- 1:24This prize winning the show is long standing, but really,
- 1:30shouldn't it be now? Who wants to be a billionaire?
- 1:33What? Say you about this.
- 1:34Well, let let me give you a caution here.
- 1:36Mark Ecclesiastes 5 verse 10 five verse 10 from the word of
- 1:39God says whoever loves money never has enough Whoever loves
- 1:44wealth is never never satisfied with their income.
- 1:48Wise words I think as you see or just going after wealth isn't
- 1:53the answer to having a good life.
- 1:54Mind you, as a wise man once said, if you have lots of money,
- 1:59he doesn't make you happy, but he can give you a better class
- 2:02of, of depression. Now.
- 2:04I mean the, the, the, that's an interesting point that he should
- 2:09be a billionaire. Being a millionaire doesn't
- 2:11guarantee you money for life. Now to be able to live well for
- 2:16the rest of your life, a billionaire would.
- 2:18So maybe it should be up to. I'm not sure which production
- 2:22company is going to put up the money though.
- 2:24And of course, who wants to be a millionaire comes not the mark
- 2:27of being. Strong.
- 2:28When the well known song of that title, please don't sing it.
- 2:31It's cutting off, cutting off. But the yes, that's where it
- 2:35comes from. So it was a jaunty title, yes,
- 2:39but yes, it's it's I think it's when this sort of thing happens
- 2:43that someone actually wins it. It does.
- 2:46It's interesting. It's all part of the
- 2:48entertainment, even if you haven't won it yourself.
- 2:50So is this really just people seeking after wealth or is it
- 2:57really entertainment? Because you can't go into it
- 3:00thinking I'm going to win the million because it it's do you
- 3:04say it's the 7th after many years?
- 3:06It's the 7th 1, yes. Yes, yeah.
- 3:07So it's. Not the 8th.
- 3:09Surely you, surely you can't think that you're going to win
- 3:14it. So I think it's more of an
- 3:15entertainment and they normally say, yes, I've had a wonderful
- 3:17day, I enjoyed it very much even though they're crying softly
- 3:22that they didn't win. But you see, of course you can
- 3:25win amounts, you know, less than 1,000,000.
- 3:28So you can have a small amount and you can have a good time
- 3:31without being the being the millionaire.
- 3:33So I think it's generally a good show, entertaining show.
- 3:38Of course with the now with the the second brilliant presenter
- 3:43they've had in the British version.
- 3:45We're obviously big fans of both of them.
- 3:47Jeremy Clarkson, yes. Jeremy Clarkson.
- 3:49I mean, what other words would you use?
- 3:51What more could you say? Just the the the sheer pleasure
- 3:54of meeting him? Well, look, let me let me just
- 3:56say that Roman Debowski has said that he does quizzing as a
- 4:01hobby. So naturally, you know, he's
- 4:03very well read. He's got a.
- 4:05Wide. Range of topics to his
- 4:08fingertips and to his tongue. But he's planning on buying a
- 4:11new house, and his prize money will also enable him to travel,
- 4:15including trips to New Zealand and South America.
- 4:18Well, good luck to that. But here's the thing, Mr. Pete,
- 4:22he went all the way through to the 15th question.
- 4:25I'm going to tell you what the question is because I think just
- 4:28listeners, I don't think Mr. Pete has seen the show.
- 4:31And so hopefully this in the interest and integrity of the
- 4:34show. He doesn't know the answers, but
- 4:37I'm going to as as was the the Roman himself got.
- 4:42So Mr. Pete, yes, or the benefit of who wants to be yes, Jeremy,
- 4:48a penniless presenter. Here is your question.
- 4:53Used since 1876, which trademark logo is described in the James
- 4:59Joyce novel Ulysses and depicted in the works by Manet and
- 5:04Picasso? I'll say it again.
- 5:07Used since 1876, which trademark logo is described in the James
- 5:14Joyce novel Ulysses and is also depicted in the works by Manet
- 5:19and Picasso? I'm going to give you 4 options.
- 5:23The first option, do I have a lifeline?
- 5:26No, and that is the options are Bass Ale, the Famous Grouse,
- 5:34Coca-Cola or Stella Artois. So you have to give your
- 5:40options. So let's see whether you can get
- 5:42it right. Of those four, one of them is
- 5:45correct. And which one is it that appears
- 5:47in the James Joyce novel and appears in a Manet and a Picasso
- 5:51painting? Right.
- 5:54Can you just quickly remind me of them again?
- 5:56Just go through. Bass Ale, the famous.
- 5:58Grouse. Coca-Cola.
- 6:01Stella Artois. OK, I'm going to say there you
- 6:04go. Tension.
- 6:06Right, yes, we need the music play person we put on the post.
- 6:11I'm going to say famous Grouse. Well, I'm afraid yes, you're
- 6:17wrong. Yes, it was Bass Ale, Yes.
- 6:20So if you actually look, if you say, for example, look at one of
- 6:24the Manet paintings, you'll see beer bottles and right in the
- 6:27corner you'll see the triangle, the Bass Ale triangle.
- 6:31It does appear there. It also is mentioned in Ulysses.
- 6:35It is also depicted by Picasso, Yes.
- 6:38So it's interesting, isn't it? He was given four options.
- 6:40He went for it and he got it. Even though my even though my
- 6:45knowledge of art and the novel Ulysses is vast and and
- 6:51exhaustive, I just didn't know that it's.
- 6:54Just well, there we go. What a surprise.
- 6:57With my level of. Art You.
- 6:59Would have thought I would have gone.
- 7:02Yes, of course. Obviously if if we would have
- 7:05had a question on the Mark and Pete show, you would still would
- 7:08have got it wrong, but nevertheless I.
- 7:09Have no idea what's happening. But the fact is, isn't it?
- 7:13There's a lot of luck involved. But I, I would say that I'm
- 7:17going to say, I actually think that Who Wants to be a
- 7:20millionaire is it's one of those formats that can go on forever.
- 7:24Why not? So I, I would certainly invite
- 7:28the, the public to say if you were actually looking to ask any
- 7:33questions on who wants to be a millionaire, well, why not pitch
- 7:37and pose one to Mr. Pete? Because I'm sure that he would
- 7:41certainly like to be a millionaire.
- 7:45Oh man.
