- 0:51four more days, including today. If my math is right, I'll be
- 0:54in for the rest of this week. Dave Allen will be back on Monday.
- 0:56But today I'd like to welcome into the studio with me. Obviously stranger,
- 1:00and I'm always glad to have Danny Jones back in when I'm doing the
- 1:03show, so Danny and I can talk a little bit and you guys get
- 1:04a chance to talk to him as well. Danny, good morning. How
- 1:07are you doing this morning. I'm very nice, and thank you very much
- 1:11for having me over. I love coming over here and talking to the folks.
- 1:15I like seeing it, especially since I can't come by and get a
- 1:19barbecue as as readily as I once did. I couldn't have done another day.
- 1:23I believe you, man, I know that I know that it was
- 1:26when I think about it now, in this arm, I can't even left.
- 1:30You know, my left shoulders so bad, and I'm hoping to get
- 1:33replacement surgery. I went out and bought Medicare covers just for it. So
- 1:37yeah, I mean you were probably doing repetitive actions and having to work behind
- 1:41there. I got jumped in seventy four, nineteen seventy four, I got
- 1:45jumped from behind and I pulled the guy around in front. I mean I
- 1:48got on top of him squeeze his head. But by that time the damage
- 1:52was done. Then I had surgery and eighty because it kept popping out.
- 1:55And then in twenty thirteen they opened it up and rearrange the nerves. But
- 2:00he said that's it, and now the half shoulder replacements. So that's I'm
- 2:05going for that. You want to give that a shot. Well, good
- 2:07luck. I hope that works out very well. We're gonna have a show
- 2:08this morning. Get your questions and comments ready. We're going to basically open
- 2:12it up for any commentary that you want with with Danny Jones here this morning.
- 2:16We have some business we're going to take care of first, but our
- 2:20phone line numbers will be open in just a few moments. Three or four
- 2:22three four five fifty three or four three four five fifty fifty. You can
- 2:24text over any questions or comments you have to three or four nine three five
- 2:29five zero eight three or four nine three five five zero zero eight. But
- 2:32we do want to talk about some big news out of Charleston and Yeager International
- 2:37Airport. We reported on WCHS a few weeks ago that we're going to be
- 2:40getting a new airline coming out of Charleston, which is Breeze Airways. We
- 2:45have with us this morning. Dominique Ranieri is with me. She's the West
- 2:47Virginia International Yeager Airport CEO and Airport director. Dominique is the first female to
- 2:52lead the Yeager Airport and has worked there since twenty seventeen as the marketing director.
- 2:58Working her way up. She joined just now this morning to talk about
- 3:00the new airline, which is Breeze Airways. Dominate, good morning, How
- 3:05you doing this morning for having me? Oh, thank you so much for
- 3:08coming on. We really appreciate it, and I'm very excited about this this
- 3:13new news. So let's just start from the very beginning here a little bit.
- 3:16Introduce us a little bit to the new airlines you're bringing into via your
- 3:20airport. So Breeze is a fairly new airline. They were started by the
- 3:25original founder of Jet Blue, David Neilman, so it is not his first
- 3:30rodeo. This is actually the fifth airline that he has started. And this
- 3:35particular airline really focuses on connecting regions like hours with direct service, so routes
- 3:43that don't involve a connection anywhere, which is really exciting and definitely what we
- 3:46know our state, in our community wants to see. So this airline is
- 3:51starting out with NonStop flights between CRW and Orlando International or MCO as well as
- 3:59Charleston, South Carolina. So that airport code is THHS and those flights will
- 4:02start Wednesday, May thirty first, So this is right around the corner that
- 4:06these flights are already going to be starting. So you get the gateway to
- 4:09Florida, so you get to Orlando, we get to Charlie South, which
- 4:11is a popular destination. Danny, did you have a question? Thank you,
- 4:15ma'am. And my name's Danny Jones, and I was just curious.
- 4:20Is this a startup aircraft? I mean, are these flights going to be
- 4:25some of the first flights they fly? Oh? No, they have been
- 4:29operating already for two years and they have thirty different routes out of Charleston,
- 4:33South Carolina already, as well as multiple different airports throughout the country. So
- 4:39if you go onto their website flybraries dot com, you can see their route
- 4:43map and you can see that they are expanding rapidly and they are a fine
- 4:48tuned machine already. You think that they did? I read that you might
- 4:54someday have a flight from Charleston to the West coast. That's correct. That
- 5:00is something that they are really interested in starting. And it could be the
- 5:03Los Angeles area or even a Las Vegas about how about how about John Wayne?
- 5:12They have flown in there before. Your personalized service out of that man.
- 5:16That that is that that is really great news. And these these fairs
- 5:19the flip fairs that they're starting with. These are very competitive, more than
- 5:24competitive, these are downright and expensive fairs. That's right. Some of the
- 5:28fairs available for those initial routes Orlando and Charleston, South Carolina started just forty
- 5:32nine dollars each way. And you can really pick what you want to experience
- 5:38on board the aircraft. So they have three different classes nice, nicer,
- 5:42and nicest, which is fun. And those different packages include different feat types
- 5:46as well as different snacks and your bags. Um. So it's really a
- 5:50custom experience for each passenger. So you do have the option to get like
- 5:55a first class experience if you want to have one. That's right, that's
- 5:58the nicest, I guess. I know that in the initial press release.
- 6:03We have these two cities that we're starting off with with Charlie, South and
- 6:06with Orlando, and there's more cities you mentioned a moment ago the west coast,
- 6:12but the other cities I think up to five are planned over the initial
- 6:15two years. Any sneak preview of what might be on the horizon with those
- 6:18or is that something we have to wait and see how it comes. That's
- 6:21right. So this is all made possible by a partnership between the Governor's Office,
- 6:28the Tourism Office, the Chelsea Ruby our Secretary, as well as the
- 6:30Canau County Commission, and the City of Charleston, and their negotiation of this
- 6:36involved at least five routes involved or announced within the first two years of service
- 6:42at CRW, So, like we mentioned, Orlando and Charleston are starting already,
- 6:46and then one of the routes that were really focused on achieving is New
- 6:50York City. That is something that our state desperately needs. And then beyond
- 6:56that, you know, five is just the starting point. There could be
- 6:59even um and if you go on to that fly Breeze dot com website,
- 7:03you can see that they have some really interesting destinations. So we're constantly in
- 7:09contact with the airline, watching the trends, watching where our current passengers are
- 7:13trying to get, and seeing what makes sense based on the numbers, and
- 7:16that that is some great information. I'm really looking forward to some of these,
- 7:20especially since I've recently uh started doing a yearly vacation in Florida. So
- 7:25hopefully maybe maybe we'll get a Orlando's not too bad, but maybe we'll get
- 7:30a destination that's coming in there pretty soon. Really looking forward to that,
- 7:32did you. Oh yeah, yeah, that's true. It's just with the
- 7:36kid and driving all that way. I don't really love doing it, but
- 7:39anyway, Dominic grant areas with me. She is the West Virginia International Yeager
- 7:44Airport CEO and airport director, talking about Breeze Airways, which is gonna be
- 7:46starting flying out of Yeager International Airport on the thirty first of this month,
- 7:51going to Orlando and Charlie South with more destinations to come. Thank you so
- 7:57much for your tom this morning. I think this is exciting news coming out
- 7:59of Yeager. I know that we had a bit of a loss of an
- 8:03airline earlier this year or late last year, but this more than makes up
- 8:07for that and ever forward. That's right. We're very excited and we hope
- 8:11that we will be able to fly you to your next vacation as well.
- 8:16Well. Thank you so much for that, Dominique. We really appreciate your
- 8:18time this morning. Thanks for telling us to what's going on. We'll be
- 8:20sure to send all the folks up there for Breeze Airways. Great. Thanks
- 8:24so much. A great day. You do the same, Thank you so
- 8:26much. That's Dominique Ranier re joining us this morning finding out about these flights,
- 8:30and those are convenient. I mean when you're talking fifty bucks for a
- 8:33flight to get to to Orlando or to get to Charlie South or something like
- 8:37that, I mean, that's that's that's beyond comparative, pet petitive. That's
- 8:39good. Charlie South's more my style. I like it. But you could
- 8:45go to Orlando and rent a car. Not bad. Yeah, we're in
- 8:48Panama City is where our condo is. That's the that's on the other coast,
- 8:52on the other coast. Yeah, yeah, that I'm like a little
- 8:54far. Yeah, where you go down there? Do you go through Alabama
- 8:56in that area or how do you do that? I have I haven't driven
- 9:01there recently, but back when I used to have a vacation property in Golf
- 9:03Shores and so we used to and that's near Pensacola, So we used to
- 9:07go down to through Foley into Alabama, then we go over to Pensacola,
- 9:11Orange Beach and stuff like that. I used to go down in that area
- 9:13lot. Well. So this is not a startup. They'd been in business
- 9:16ten year, two years. Right in two thousand and four, I was
- 9:22involved that I don't think we didn't give any money. Maybe the county did
- 9:26if they did good for them. There was Independence Air came in here and
- 9:31one of the places they flew to was Dullas. Really yeah, and a
- 9:35bunch of us, including the County Commission and me and some other folks.
- 9:41The flight was full, but we made it full because we got to fly
- 9:46for free. And we went to Dallas Fence some time in DC and then
- 9:50came back. And what you found out was happening is that US Air at
- 9:58that time they started umping up against it with cheaper prices. They didn't care
- 10:03if they put up They didn't care about losing money. This one to put
- 10:05them out of business, and in fact they did. And it was very
- 10:09sad because it was it was a lot of fun to ride. You had
- 10:13you had given the airline instructions, you know when you get on the buckling
- 10:18your seatbelt, and you had Mary Madeline talking to all the Democrats, and
- 10:22then you had James Carvill and now you considered it. Now put down your
- 10:28Wall Street journalists for a minute, you know, and then he would talk
- 10:31about how you know, buckle the seat belt and do all that stuff.
- 10:33It's a lot of fun. It's amazing how that relationship, it was so
- 10:37famous for so long between you know, a prominent left winger and a prominent
- 10:41right winger, and you don't seem much of that anything. There's actually a
- 10:45picture that exists when they first discovered each other's existence, because she was working
- 10:50for HW and she was working for he was working for President Clinton, and
- 10:54there's a picture to exist when they see each other for the first time.
- 10:58That's hilarious. And I was on in ninety seven or eight. I was
- 11:03on c SPAN panel and I was the one right after her. She was
- 11:09very pregnant at the time, and so that young lady would be I don't
- 11:15know, enter teenage years. And Carvel's in his seventies, maybe moving on
- 11:20towards late seventies. And of course he's he's now on MSNBC talking about that
- 11:26Durham report, that guy that doesn't know what he's talking about. You know,
- 11:30he's he's he's still entertaining. I mean, he's he's a he's a
- 11:33firecracker. And he was. I've been, I've been, you know,
- 11:39I drilled down on some of the weirdest stuff. I'm now drilling down on
- 11:41Barry Goldwater. Okay, And there's a there's so much you can watch free
- 11:48on YouTube. One is Goldwater on Goldwater, where his granddaughter did a a
- 11:52hour and a half a documentary and some of the kindest comments came from Carville.
- 12:01You know, he's got don't come round very much, you know.
- 12:03And and because he started, he really solidified the moving sixty four and then
- 12:11Al Franken, you know, and Al Franken says his father changed from a
- 12:16Republican to Democrat because of that race. But you said, your uncle,
- 12:20somebody's going to vote vote for Goldwater, and and um, if if,
- 12:26if he gets elected, we'll be in a big war. And Al Francis
- 12:30said, my uncle voted for Goldwater, and we wound up in a big
- 12:33war, you know. And Goldwater. In his sixty four acceptance speech,
- 12:37he tells the truth. He just said, don't don't don't hide this,
- 12:43make no mistake. We're in war in Vietnam and LBJ no, no,
- 12:48no, no, we don't want our boys over there fighting for their boys
- 12:52and all that stuff. And he wouldn't debate Goldwater. Interesting, so it
- 12:56was and he back then dale the Republican Party, there was abortion was not
- 13:05even on anybody's lips in sixty four or sixty eight, not till seventy two,
- 13:11and that's when Glorius Steinhem and those folks demanded abortion free, and of
- 13:20course that wasn't going to go anywhere. So then in seventy six it became
- 13:24an issue and Gerald Ford said it ought to be left up the States,
- 13:28but his wife didn't say that at all. I mean, Betty Ford was
- 13:33big time pro choice. And then the Reagan when they got in, that's
- 13:37when the religious right joined the party, and Goater didn't like that, and
- 13:41he had some unkind words to say about him. But we went from the
- 13:48libertarian conservatism in sixty four to the religious right conservatism in nineteen eighty. And
- 13:58if you're a Republican and then you're really into politics, for goodness sakes,
- 14:01go watch a sixty four acceptance speech. I mean, we all have ancestry,
- 14:07this is your DNA, this is where it came from, and you'll
- 14:09find a lot of stuff in there you'll agree with, and how he was
- 14:13telling the truth and President Johnson wasn't. But then you move up to to
- 14:20nineteen eighty and you there's video exist of him with all those religious leader James
- 14:28Robinson comes out and give a speech, and Reagan sitting right there. We've
- 14:33got to take our world away from the he'd say, homosexuals and the communist
- 14:37and you know he was sitting there being applauded by Ronald Reagan. So that's
- 14:43when they got their foothold in the Republican Party. And it's it's a fascinating
- 14:48it's fascinating stuff. And once again, if if you want to find out
- 14:52your DNA, go watch in nineteen sixty four Goldwater acceptance speech. You can

- 18:12You can send over and you text questions you have to three or four nine
- 18:15three five zero zero eight, A lot of stuff going on. We were
- 18:18talking a little bit, UM. We were talking a little bit during the
- 18:22break, and it's an interesting topic to talk about just in general. UM,
- 18:26the way things have changed, and you've seen it in and it goes
- 18:30with everything. It goes with even what I do here with with employees that
- 18:33we have in politics, a work ethic that's involved in uh doing the work.
- 18:38UM, and a lot of situations PETE. Older folks a lot of
- 18:42times like to beat up the when the the younger generations. As a manager
- 18:47that hires people, I've worked with every generation coming in. I'm almost fifty,
- 18:51i'll be forty nine this year. UM. I've worked with fellow Gen
- 18:55xers, I've worked with with Boomer generations. I've worked with yeah exactly,
- 18:59I've worked with the zoomers. I've worked with just about everywhere. And with
- 19:03the millennials. I don't find any any group of people to be necessarily less
- 19:10hard working. You have to understand them a little bit different. But I
- 19:12have millennials and Gen Z that works for me to do a great job.
- 19:15You just have to know how to communicate with them. Something I think the
- 19:19gift of work that my work has always been my gift. I didn't get
- 19:23married does fifty five, got a divorce at sixty. I have those two
- 19:27boys and what you're the lights of my life. But if you can do
- 19:34something that you like and make a living at it, what a gift?
- 19:40I mean? And I think about some of the jobs I've had over the
- 19:44years, and the ones I liked the most would shock you. I mean
- 19:47working at that filling station on South Hills through my teenage years, and I
- 19:51built a race car. I ran it in nineteen sixty nine, I was
- 19:53still eighteen years old. One six trophies with it nice. I mean,
- 19:56that was exciting, and that was an exciting time. And then when I
- 20:00worked at the Sterling restaurant when I was a cook. I was sixteen years
- 20:04old and I was cooking. That's when we went over night nine to six
- 20:08in the morning. That's a shift I work. And the reason we had
- 20:11that shift is because of Charleston was full of bootleg liquor and there was no
- 20:18rules about these people because everything that was operated was illegal. And I thought
- 20:23to myself, you know, very naive kid, I said, well,
- 20:26I guess there's some laws you obey and some laws you don't. Because the
- 20:30cops were new where all these places were, and if there's if there was
- 20:33ever a raid, somehow, they'd find out about it in advance and hide
- 20:37a lot of the liquor and the people would go and go around the corner
- 20:42and when the police left, they'd go back up to SEPs. I mean,
- 20:47but I think if you can find something you like and you can make
- 20:49a living at it, and you've got a big part of life solved,
- 20:56I mean, because it'd be I can't imagine going to work and not want
- 21:02to be there, right, And in my fourth term I could have probably
- 21:07not been there. Felt a little bit of that well here And this is
- 21:11a recommendation to Mary Goodwin. Stay as long as you want, run for
- 21:17seven terms, but don't stay there one more day than what you want to
- 21:21stay. So if it's at the end of this term and the next one
- 21:23ever, it is, remember once you run and get reelected, you're stuck
- 21:29there, right And um, so it's it's that last that fourth term.
- 21:36I mean, we we got a lot done. We uh, we opened
- 21:40the Civic center and we um, but I got in that needle war and
- 21:45finally won it, but did I really I mean, we got the needles
- 21:49out, but it was it took a toll on me personally, and you
- 21:56know it's it's it's you get some negative and people can tell oh, you're
- 22:00negative when you don't want to be somewhere. So that's a gift in life
- 22:04to be able to work somewhere where you um, where you like and look
- 22:11forward to going to work and get paid. What a deal? Yeah,
- 22:14yeah, absolutely, I mean I love my job here and there and been
- 22:17able to come to work and do something every day. There's something to that.
- 22:19Three or four three four five fifty three four five fifty fifty. If
- 22:22you want to get on with Andy Jones, let's talk a little bit about
- 22:25there's been you've been on with days. So it's not none of these topics
- 22:27are are are new to you right now. But there's always um minutia and
- 22:33shake up in politics, both in the state and nationally. Um, there's
- 22:37very there. There's becoming less difference between the two of them. Um.
- 22:41West Virginia used to be fairly unique politically as a state. We're becoming very
- 22:45much nationalized as a state. In nineteen eighty eight, we were in the
- 22:49five states that went for Michael dud Caucus. Yeah, yeah, it's it's
- 22:53it's just it's different seeing um you know, uh so many uh top on
- 23:00national things that gets that gets brought up here locally before issues start coming up
- 23:03and stuff. But what's kind of your general feeling as you look on the
- 23:06field. Let's talk about West Virginia first. I mean, there's a lot
- 23:08of stuff that's going on. Obviously, Shelley's sheets seat is safe, so
- 23:12there's not going to be any movement over there. But you got you got
- 23:15people vide for governor, you got people vine for the other Senate position.
- 23:19I mean, there's a lot of different personalities and folks that are in this
- 23:22Uh what do you see shaking through? Is it ultimate allegiance to Trump?
- 23:26That's gonna that's going to see the day through here. It's gonna be a
- 23:29couple of things that will happen this summer. One will happen in Georgia and
- 23:36one will happen in the District of Columbia. And that's uh, President Trump
- 23:41will be indicted in both areas. People don't believe that. Um, they
- 23:47still this kind of witch hunt narrative that's been going on about this thing.
- 23:49Fine, that's fine. He'll be able to prove that in court if it's
- 23:53true the problem in Georgia of the phone calls. But she's been working a
- 24:02long time. I don't subpoena and Lindsay Graham, what's that all about.
- 24:06They've looked at emails and everything. But she's told law enforcement down there to
- 24:11clear their schedules for the early part of August. Something big is supposed to
- 24:15be coming. Yeah, that's supposed to be right now. Jack Smith is
- 24:19the most serious. I mean, you know, beating the federal government's hard.
- 24:26And I look at it this way. I'm not rooting for indictment.
- 24:30I didn't. I didn't vote for him, but just we've reached new we've
- 24:36reached new ground with President Trump. I think that he is. If there
- 24:45was a connection on January sixth between the war room at Willard Hotel and the
- 24:52White House, they got a real problem. Then it becomes conspiracy, seditious
- 24:56type conspiracy, just like the Proud Boys. I'm not saying there was,
- 25:03but if there was, Mark Meadows would be involved. And if you read
- 25:07John Bayner's book and he mentioned Mark Meadows in there, or you watch Cassidy
- 25:14Hutchinson's testimony in front of the January sixth Committee. You realize that Mark Meadows
- 25:21will crumble like a cookie. He will crumble like a cookie. He's not
- 25:25stable, And he went, I mean Bainter was really He said that he
- 25:30went down, campaigned for him, raised all kinds of money for him,
- 25:34and then he wouldn't vote for Banter as speaker. And he came into Bayner's
- 25:40office and got on his knees and started crying. It was just, it's
- 25:44just say, it's just I think the guy's unstable, and I think he'll
- 25:48buckle pick time there's and I hate the timing of all this, and part
- 25:53of me thinks that it was on purpose. In fact, I'm almost positive
- 25:57that maybe not necessarily where to win, because there's been some although it seems
- 26:00to be like this has been delayed. So much of this stuff has been
- 26:03strung out to try to try to get into the next election. In the
- 26:08next election, it would been so nice to put some of this stuff to
- 26:11bed so he wouldn't have to deal with it this time around. But I
- 26:14don't. I don't think we're ever getting back to that point. I think
- 26:15it's going to be constant lawsuits, constant fighting against election results, constant alternate
- 26:22truths and different facts. And I mean, we live in this bespoken reality
- 26:26of postmodernism. Now. I don't know where it's going well. And these
- 26:30early campaigns people starting as soon as the election's over. President Trump announced in
- 26:37November he never he never wasn't campaigning. I mean, his his fund raising
- 26:42arm throughout all of his presidency, he didn't. He never shut down his
- 26:45campaign. But I'll tell you who started at all. I can tell you
- 26:49when it happened. January nineteen seventy one. George McGovern announced the year early
- 26:56because he wanted to run against Nixon, right, and he got nominated,
- 27:02and it didn't work out too well. And I'll tell you an interesting story.
- 27:07I mean, I was the first time I voted. I was very
- 27:10excited. I was a Nixon guy and all that stuff. But in nineteen
- 27:15ninety two, exactly twenty years later, McGovern he was fifty, but he
- 27:18was seventy in nineteen ninety two, and he wanted to run again, and
- 27:22he called Nixon and he told Nixon President Nixon what he wanted to do.
- 27:27And he said, well, President Nixon, says, would you say anything
- 27:33different than the next guy. And the second thing is would anybody listen?
- 27:38And if the answer to both those questions two yes, go for it.
- 27:42That's Nixon's advice to his old nemesis, because McGovern was his nemesis, and
- 27:49I actually spent ten days in a group with McGovern in nineteen eighty five.
- 27:56He was a wonderful man. He was you know, he's worried Sill her
- 28:00Star. He was Bomber Palette. He was just a real good guy.
- 28:03But he was very anti war, and maybe ties it back to that,
- 28:07you know, But anyway, I find that uh, And you're right about
- 28:12all of this and the way that the history kind of plays into it.
- 28:15You were talking earlier about the the DNA of of of the different parties and
- 28:18going back and seeing I mean, obviously things change, but it's also um
- 28:25and and maybe every generation or every couple of generation sees this. Things have
- 28:27changed so much that it's it's almost unrecognizable. Um Uh, from both parties.
- 28:33Both parties have evolved is such a degree. And I don't know if
- 28:36it's more extreme on either sides, if just the positions are now so different,
- 28:41and it's not necessarily the the it's just where we stand as a society.
- 28:45But it's just the tension that evolves there that that uh, that exists
- 28:51there compared to where it was twenty years ago. It's just a different thing
- 28:55now. The legislature this year passed a tax a tax decrease. I hope
- 29:03they're right in what they do. I'll pay less taxes, sure, how
- 29:06can I all like that? But I was there when we had to raise
- 29:10a bunch of taxes because in nineteen eighty nine the state was broke, and
- 29:15I don't want to go back to that. So I hope they know what
- 29:17they're doing. I just you know what, I'm just gonna trust they do
- 29:21and be glad. But everything else was social dale everything else, everything everything
- 29:26was social. Yeah, that was the thing that's a little and it was
- 29:27all social issues that were really more of a national level thing, more of
- 29:33a cable news thing, not really and what the ground here they need to
- 29:38take? I would advise the Republicans is not that they need my advice,
- 29:44but they sure have taken a lot of my money over the years, But
- 29:48I would um. I would say that was a twenty eighteen when they they
- 29:57made part of the Constitution of of where we don't have to pay to medicaid
- 30:07money to aboard babies. That is what it came down to, right,
- 30:10and only won by one percent, one or two percent. You can get
- 30:12better. To keep that in mind, because I think, at least on
- 30:17a national basis, when um Row was overturned, I think I said,
- 30:22then, I said, now that the dog caught the car, and look
- 30:26at the shock that the virtual shock that we're on a lot of faces when
- 30:30some of them when riding high on the road being overturned. Oh well,
- 30:33let's just go ahead and do some ballot initiatives and put this thing to bed
- 30:36for good. Whoops, Because the ballot initiatives did not go the way that
- 30:40the people thought that it would. Um fairly overwhelming support, even in conservative
- 30:45states for the right to continue, continue to choose. They probably don't want
- 30:48to put it to the people, honestly. Yeah, And I actually have
- 30:55great respect for people on both sides just debate. I mean, the new
- 30:59one issue that should be considered as such, it's the pro life people won't
- 31:03believe. I know your heart, your feelings are hurt felt, but politically
- 31:08it's a loser. Yeah, and it may work here and Trump may work
- 31:12here, but there's no way Donald Trump can accumulate enough electoral votes to be
- 31:19elected president of the United States. He couldn't do it in twenty twenty,
- 31:23and it'll be a lot worse this time. That's my feeling. I'm a
- 31:26pretty good handicapper. And there's a few people in this building that walk around
- 31:32a little bit lighter since I won that. Since I won that. And
- 31:36I have to say, since I've known you, Danny, and we've had
- 31:37some of these discussions. Now, you and I don't talk as hardcore politics
- 31:40as you do with some people, but I've never known you to be wrong.
- 31:42I mean, you know when you've had to head your bets. I
- 31:45mean sometimes things are a little close. Well, but you are a good
- 31:48observer. If he supported Jbakers for mayor to replace me, I lost,
- 31:52I can lose right sure, But nationally he can't win. I don't care
- 31:57who he runs against, as can't because you have to put to get unless
- 32:04if there's a third party candidate Joe Mansion runs is no labels or whoever they
- 32:08get to run on, no Lagy worse Mansion in a run. Just in
- 32:13general, Retolicians or Democrats well, I would. I'll take myself. I
- 32:20would. If it's anybody but Trump, I'll vote for him. Yeah right,
- 32:23Okay, so if you had an alternate, if you had an okay,
- 32:27okay, I see where you're coming from. But if if um,
- 32:30if there was third party candidate and it was anybody but Trump, I'd vote
- 32:34for him, including the newest, the happy But what New York Times calls
- 32:37him the Happy Warrior? That's uh Tim Scott? Yeah right, I really
- 32:43liked that, gentleman. And but if there's three parties involved, I think
- 32:49he might take more from the Democrats. Yeah, there's I would love for
- 32:52there to be more relevant parties in this country because I think that that could
- 32:55help. But man, the way we're set up is not set up great
- 32:58for a third party represents. No, we need to have like rank system
- 33:00voting or something. Frankly, I think parliamentary maybe, yeah, something along
- 33:05those lines. We have Bill from Charleston on the wine. Let's going to
- 33:07get Bill in before we take our break. Bill, good morning, how
- 33:08you doing this morning? What's your question or a comment, mister Jones?
- 33:15Uh, since you're such a good handicapper, what does uh the governor's race
- 33:22look like, well, I've got money in on that one, so I
- 33:25don't think i'd be it'd be fair. I am for and I make no
- 33:30I'm for more Capito. If he doesn't get nominated and Steve Williams is on
- 33:37the other side, I'll part of be with Steve. I don't know yet,
- 33:40so I can't. I mean, you know that what's his name up
- 33:46there, the attorney general. He's already been nominated once and want to contested
- 33:52primary. I guess you'd look at him as the number one, but I
- 33:57don't want to call that one. What about mister Jess. I think he'll
- 34:00win. You think mister Justice will win. I think he'll win the primary.
- 34:05And unless the Club for Growth can really destroy him, I mean,
- 34:10and that that's that's who Mooney won't do it. But there's gonna be a
- 34:15lot of money poor and to help Mooney because he'll do what the big money
- 34:19says to do. Look, I've had my problems with Governor Justice, but
- 34:23I'll be with him in the primary. How how is the man going to
- 34:29get around to all these committee meetings and uh, you know up and down
- 34:35these halls. Well they have trolleys and they have they have elevators. They
- 34:39really do have trolleys. I think there's I'm not sure of this, but
- 34:45I think there's one. Could be one from the Dirk Dirks in office building.
- 34:49I'm not really sure, but I think he could get around. I
- 34:52think there's people that are in worse shape than he is. Look at Senator
- 34:57Feinstein. I mean she's in bad shape. Well that's that's what the problem
- 35:00is in Washington, d C. Well that's okay. You gave me a
- 35:05choice there, and uh, I'm gonna vote for Governor Justice and I'll probably
- 35:10send him a check. So well, you know, honestly, honestly,
- 35:17this is what is wrong with West Virginia. Until people start giving some thought
- 35:23as to what's going on, nothing's going to change. It's it's still the
- 35:30same today as a way of making the fifties when they're out of a kid.

- 39:24hometown pharmacy. And speaking of the text line, I've had a couple of
- 39:30questions for you this morning. We've had some questions about you commenting on the
- 39:35Kent Carper situation and also about R. RK Junior, So we can take
- 39:42those in turn. All right, let's Carper. First thing, From nineteen
- 39:45eighty six to nineteen ninety six, we didn't speak. I mean I knew
- 39:50him in nineteen I knew him when I was in the military and he was
- 39:52working down Beacon Ambulance. I had some friends hanging out there. I'd go
- 39:55down there and hang out and a lobby with them, and Kent was there.
- 40:00He's the guy that liked the lights and the action and flying in a
- 40:06ambulance, stuff like that. And I think that came out later on.
- 40:12So we've not only had political conflict, we've had political combat. But I
- 40:19think I am just as taken back by anybody in this situation as to what
- 40:24I heard. And there's a couple of problems here. Number one the initial
- 40:30act that the police came to danieb In Park. And the second problem is
- 40:35if there was a body camera and he he said something he shouldn't have.
- 40:39I mean, that's serious stuff. If there was an offer made or something,
- 40:44I don't know what happened, We'll just have to wait. What I'd
- 40:47like for people to remember is that this guy's has given the Canalchanic Commission a
- 40:54brand. In other words, people didn't never talked about it before he became
- 41:00a commissioner. And he was almost omnipresent, you know, about being everywhere
- 41:05anywhere. Didn't want to get between him and the camera. Now I'm telling
- 41:09you so or me either by that way, I was pretty bad about that.
- 41:14But I want to just repeat what I said on Hoppy yesterday, is
- 41:19that the app Blatch and Electric Power building came for sale and they wanted four
- 41:24million dollars and it's set there for a while and Kent went over and commandeered
- 41:29the whole place for nothing. App Blatch and Power got a write off and
- 41:32that's where the Kent carper the judicial office complexes. And he's done things like
- 41:39that, and he's he's always I mean we've had our disagreements, but I
- 41:45always felt like that he was, you know, like the energy azer bunny.
- 41:50And his health has not been good. He has diabet us. I
- 41:53believe he had a kidney replacement and so he's he's had some issues. But
- 42:00this is a very fluid situation, and what's true today we might know something
- 42:05different on Thursday. Yeah, So that's what my suggestion, and I've made
- 42:13it to some of the people. Wash it all out in one news cycle.
- 42:19Conquer both of those problems in one news cycle. And how you do
- 42:24that, we'll know once we see the see the damage. But if there's
- 42:29a fight and there's some ugly stuff here, it'll go nationwide. Yeah,
- 42:32because that's one of those things that the details are just enough. You're right,
- 42:37it will go. The more you try to be a Strisian type thing,
- 42:39the more you try to suppress it, it would just get more and
- 42:42more and more and more famous, depending on the circumstances behind it. We've
- 42:45had two people now that wanted your take on RFK Junior. So he's this
- 42:51is Robert F. Kennedy Jr. To me, known mostly until now for
- 42:55being kind of an anti vaxed nut job. Frankly, so, I don't
- 42:59know about what his political aspirations are as far as being president goes. But
- 43:04I don't personally, I don't trust him, wouldn't vote for him for anything.
- 43:06I was studying when his father was alive. I was studying politics as
- 43:09much as a dude. Now. I didn't like his dad, and I
- 43:13really despise him. Yeah, and he's not a good person, and he's
- 43:16a liar, and he's not knowledgeable. He's not he's not where you where
- 43:21these folks want to rest their rest their political energy. I'm getting these people.
- 43:27I'm getting texts. He's really just speaking common sense. He's a common
- 43:30sense candidate. He's the guy that presents common sense. What common sense?
- 43:32Not me, I don't get it at all. I want somebody that's practical,
- 43:37and I want somebody that for once. I mean, I'd like to
- 43:42have somebody that appeals to my better instincts, and that would be Tim Scott.
- 43:46And I mean I like the fact Dusanis has the military background. I
- 43:52don't know why these folks didn't go in the military. It's a heck of
- 43:54a thing to have on your resume, and it's later on in life,
- 44:00you'll appreciate it. I mean, I'm so glad. I was drafted and
- 44:04then went in the Marine Corps and I actually I had a split tour,
- 44:09but I was I was on Okonawa and then I volunteered for Vietnam and they
- 44:15let me go. And I was in Denang, which was rocket city,
- 44:21and we were incessantly pounded with rockets, but when we weren't, it was
- 44:24the best duty station I had. Do you think that someone like Tim The
- 44:29thing about Scott that strikes me a little bit now he's had to descend into
- 44:34the culture war stuff a little bit, and everybody does anymore to just stay
- 44:37relevant because it's part of the thing. But he does remind me more of
- 44:42a w type of Republican Like he reminds me a little bit more of an
- 44:46older school type of conservative, resident conservative guy who came who comes from the
- 44:52South, and there's a lot of that, even as a black guy.
- 44:57It's in your blood, sure. And he did some extraordinary thing when he
- 45:00was a congressman. He would put on a T shirt. You know,
- 45:02the guy's got a build on him, and he would go volunteer and work
- 45:06in these fast food places and he'd be back in the back, mopping the
- 45:09floor and stuff like that. People say, is that Connersson Scott back there,
- 45:13you know? And I like the guy. Yeah, I think he'd
- 45:16be uh. I think I think he'd appealed to our better instincts. Somewhere
- 45:22in him. He has an actual thought about how he wants to govern.
- 45:25And it's not just all culture and emotion in which politics. There used to
- 45:30be a senator from the state of Washington named Henry Scoop Jackson. He was
- 45:37a conservative Democrat, big labor guy, but a conservative Democrat. They called
- 45:40him the Senator from Boeing and in nineteen eighty he ran for president and Democrat
- 45:45primary. He's most too conservative, didn't go anywhere, but they ask him.
- 45:49Tom Snyder in one of those Late nine interviews, ask him, what's
- 45:52what would you do if you're a president. Well, the first thing I
- 45:53do, Tom, is surround myself with people lots of murder and I am.
- 45:58And that's what you do when you get in those jobs as mayor.
- 46:00You do that in any job where you're an administrator. You put people around
- 46:05you smarter, having that knact to find people. I mean, when I
- 46:09first went in the restaurant business. Who did I get? I got Otis
- 46:15Lowry, the best, one of the best gourmet cooks, and stayed to
- 46:17West Virginia. And there has been a somewhat of a shift when it comes
- 46:21to politics or anything else where people don't want to admit they're not the smartest
- 46:24person in the room. They want to it's all me. It's all me,
- 46:28It's all me. It is to have like somebody who is smart enough
- 46:30to know that the seven people that are your closest associates, that you're getting
- 46:35your that you're getting your recommendations, and call it your cabinet, whatever it
- 46:38is. Those are the people that need to be smart, not you,
- 46:40because you can't make all the decisions. In the nineties, I was doing
- 46:44news down the dial and I went up and sitting in a hearing, and
- 46:49there is this young lady, blondheaded lady, very attractive woman sitting next to
- 46:53me, and next her was a cabinet secretary who I knew very well.
- 47:00And I asked her a question and she wouldn't answer it. And the young
- 47:06lady said, if you want to talk to her, you have to go
- 47:07through me. I thought, I'll pass. That is what has happened to
- 47:13politics, and the press had my phone number and they would call me.
- 47:19Now, well, largely especially on the National press, is all access press
- 47:23anymore? There is. When I started doing this show, Rod and all
- 47:29the folks in my office. First thing, if you if you just have
- 47:32to talk to the mayor, he's going to give the problem to somebody else
- 47:35anyway. But Rod said, you know, we spent a lot of time
- 47:38trying to protect you from the stuff that we can take care of. And
- 47:44now you're going on the air, You're turning yourself loose. You're just letting
- 47:49it happen. And I believe in transparency in government, and we now saw
- 47:55I'm going to read the Durham Report if I could maybe get Shelley Capped or
- 48:00somebody like that to get me a copy of it. Yeah, I don't
- 48:01want to read it off a computer. I'd like to sit there with the
- 48:05pages and read it. But there was some pretty gross misbehavior that came in
- 48:08during the trial. It came up that that the Steel dossier wasn't real.
- 48:15Hillary Hunton knew it and let it go. I'm not picking on missus Clinton.
- 48:19I'm just saying that's it did happen. So it's it's a crazy world
- 48:24we live in and the crime of Watergate, which was the June twenty third
- 48:30teenth or Nixon would have survived it, you couldn't do anything with it today.
