- 0:17Hello, and welcome everybody to episode fifty two of Cards and Categories. I
- 0:21am Mike Coolard from Rasball, joined as always by my very good friend Jeremy
- 0:25Brewer, also from Rasball, and we did it, buddy. It's the
- 0:28one year anniversary. We made it fifty two weeks and in celebration, the
- 0:32White Sox have dfaed Martin Malnado to like bring it full circle for us.
- 0:36So congrats to us, Congrats to the White Sox. Moving on, it's
- 0:40a big day here. It is exciting we made it. I don't know
- 0:44that everybody believed we will, including ourselves. We were successful in May of
- 0:49the year, so it is exciting. I think you were crazy when you
- 0:54first suggested we start this up on the heels of all the workover at Rasball.
- 0:59But teams, it worked out. It's just okay. At least that's
- 1:02what I keep telling myself. So we're having a blast, that's all I
- 1:06can say. Yes, Yeah, we've had a great year together. And
- 1:11like I said off the top, here this is our fifty second episode.
- 1:12We're recording this on July seventeenth. Technically our one year anniversary was July twelfth,
- 1:18because that's the all star Break was a little bit earlier last year.
- 1:22But yeah, if you were looking for something as you found this podcast here
- 1:25as it's being released on the eighteenth, the Thursday, and you're just bored
- 1:30out of your skull waiting for baseball to get back like me, certainly go
- 1:34back check out the rest of the catalog. But I've got some great stats
- 1:37here of like I went through and tallied up what we did in terms of
- 1:41pumping out all those pods for the first year. So in our first year,
- 1:45we charted in three countries. We charted in the US, Canada,
- 1:48and Denmark. So shout out to our Denmark fan or fans out there.
- 1:53We appreciate you you checking us out, but we are a regular charter out
- 1:57in Denmark, so at least in the in the baseball category, I would
- 2:00say not, I guess I should have that there's that one guy out there,
- 2:06this listener, there's like one fantasy baseball league in Denmark. Well,
- 2:10I hope that that person is kicking ass in their Denmark, their Danish Fantasy
- 2:15baseball league and or maybe their card collector. Who knows, maybe, I
- 2:19mean they might be. That's very true. So we're very all encompassing here.
- 2:23Another another stat that I have is I went through and I totalled up
- 2:25all of the fifty one previous episodes. We put out forty eight minutes worth
- 2:34of content over this past year. That comes out to eighty two hours twenty
- 2:37eight minutes. That's pretty intense. As Like, if you're going back and
- 2:43looking at our our back catalog, you can see we we like to go
- 2:46pretty deep. We've got some pretty long podcasts. But I think it's worked
- 2:50out pretty well, and I'm I'm excited. Maybe this time next year in
- 2:53terms of like the tiyear anniversary, we might eclipse the ten thousand minute mark,
- 2:58which would be I mean at that point, well we're starting to get
- 3:00into like Malcolm Gladwell territory will be podcast experts, right, yeah, I
- 3:05mean ten ten thousand minutes. I think that's that's what's try. That's the
- 3:08goal for next next year. Some listeners might say, maybe do it in
- 3:13more podcasts than four hour marathons, but hey, there's multiple ways to get
- 3:17there. We'll see how we do it. I think our longest one was
- 3:20only like Pew twenty five, so I mean that's shorter than most feature length
- 3:25movies nowadays, so I mean you can handle that. Yeah. The other
- 3:29stat we have is we've had five guests, So five guests over the first
- 3:32year and hopefully we can expand it out and get some more. But I
- 3:36think we've had a great time having guests on meeting new people from rasball and
- 3:39other places to just get some new voices and be able to especially during that
- 3:44preview for the season that we went through and had guests, I thought that
- 3:49was a great idea, So I think we'll continue that going forward. And
- 3:53the last one we have is if you've been following along and purchased all those
- 3:58PC cards that we covered, which nobody has because some of those one of
- 4:01ones that we've cut covered are still out on eBay, but we put it
- 4:05fifty four total PC cards into that personal collection, So I thought that was
- 4:11pretty cool just to like go back and follow and see like how large our
- 4:15PC is going. So yeah, I think I'm going to track that going
- 4:17forward so that we can always know which cards we've been putting in and which
- 4:23cards, you know, we might want to in the future, especially if
- 4:26Aaron Judge and Bryce Harbor want to win some more Player of the Month awards.
- 4:30Well, speaking of PC cards, I got something. I got something
- 4:33for you because of this this occasion one year, I got you a PC
- 4:39card. Okay, so what you got I'm gonna I'm gonna give you some
- 4:44clues. Let you figure this one out, all right, you know me?
- 4:46So what kind of card? I'm always I have a very clear niche
- 4:49in my cards as far as the baseball cards. So give me. Give
- 4:55me a type of card that you think I likely would buy for somebody.
- 4:58What's the main characteristic, whether that that's a numbered an SP and auto what
- 5:02what? What is it that I'm always buying? I would say, like
- 5:06it's just a beautiful patch or like just some like especially in more colors the
- 5:12better. Like if you can get a patch with like three or four colors
- 5:15on it and you got like all of the Team Jersey colors incorporated into it,
- 5:19that would be my guest from you. All Right, you're on You're
- 5:23on the right track. Here, You're you're on the right track. And
- 5:25then name one of your favorite long lock hair relievers. Who would that be
- 5:33one of your favorite PC relievers with those wonderful, wonderful long locks. That's
- 5:39a good question. I was gonna say when you said long locks. I
- 5:43was thinking maybe my boy won't chi boat or won't beIN chow because he's been
- 5:48rocking the flows. Uh, I mean it's not lance Lynn because you said
- 5:54a reliever. I'm actually I'm not sure who'd you pick up? You gotta
- 5:58go back. Dennis Eckersley, Oh my boy, Dennis, Yes, Dennis,
- 6:01all right. So I've got you a Century Collection leaf two thousand and
- 6:06five out of forty three, because they are forty three in Jersey, hatch
- 6:15card for you. Here. I'm gonna show in the Cardinals jersey in the
- 6:19Cardinals Jersey. I've been looking to get that card for a while. I'm
- 6:23not even kidding. And it's even the patch. And this is what I
- 6:26love about this patch is it's one of the jerseys. It was the you
- 6:29can tell it's the breatheable because it has all little holes in it. And
- 6:31so it's absolutely number twenty eight out of forty three game worn authentic jersey of
- 6:38dens acuracy when he was on the Cardinals. I got I got you a
- 6:42little present here. It's it's it's for you next time I see you.
- 6:45Thank you so happy. One year. I'm disappointed you didn't get me anything.
- 6:48But otherwise we're fine. I mean, uh yeah, we can amend
- 6:55that, I can fix that, we can have But next year, next
- 6:59year, will we'll pick this up on the back end. Yeah, we'll
- 7:01trade back and forth, like what's the what's the traditional second year anniversary for
- 7:06a pod gift? That We'll have to figure that out. It's it's probably
- 7:12like a tops now numbered out of forty nine. Yes, something really bizarre.
- 7:18Okay, well, let's get into some news and notes, and I
- 7:23mean it's all about the All Star break that just happened and closed out last
- 7:26night as the AL took home the game from the NL, which went against
- 7:30what we thought what happened last week. We thought maybe the NL would finally
- 7:34pull one out, but AL came out on top again with Mason Miller picking
- 7:39up the win, Hunter Green the loss, and may class A the save.
- 7:42Jared Duran was the MVP with a monster two run Tator to be able
- 7:46to put the AL into the lead, and that came off of Hunter Green.
- 7:51That's where the loss came from. Mason Miller Like that inning that he
- 7:57threw was absolutely electric. He hit one oh four on the gun and just
- 8:03kind of like really let it air out. That was awesome to watch.
- 8:07Class A was awesome to watch. I really enjoyed the Shoho Tani homer two
- 8:11just because like those are the type of Otani homers that really take my breath
- 8:16away. The one that he hit where immediately when you saw him like crank
- 8:20him back for the swing and you saw the position of that pitch, you're
- 8:24just like that thing's gone, Like he's gonna absolutely annihilate it. And I
- 8:28thought it was a It was a relatively entertaining All Star Game overall, a
- 8:33little bit actually high scoring at five three. Usually they're very low scoring when
- 8:37you have all these pitchers airing it out. And then obviously we had Paul
- 8:41Schemes kicking off the game for the NL starting the game. That was pretty
- 8:45awesome to watch, to be able to see him move through that first inning,
- 8:50and especially MLB loved having him and Livy Dunn around for the all the
- 8:54red carpet events, Like it was a little much as MLB is really trying
- 9:01to write the coattails of live done there. But what were your big takeaways
- 9:05from the All Star Game? What kind of stood out for you and what
- 9:07plays are moments really will you remember from this All Star Game going forward?
- 9:13Yeah, well, I mean there's a few things. First of all,
- 9:16I think we still were right. The National League did win. They won
- 9:18the Celebrities Softball Ball Game and the Futures Game. So two taken two out
- 9:22of three, come on, that's that's okay. And the other downfall for
- 9:26me because I know you weren't in town and even though we're a little ways
- 9:31apart here in Illinois, I had a tornado touchdown about five miles from my
- 9:35house during the All Star Game, So I missed a few innings in the
- 9:37middle of it because well we had to make sure that the house would still
- 9:43be here. But we survived, We made it, and I saw at
- 9:46least six innings instead of and I think I missed somewhere between the sixth and
- 9:50the eighth. But you know, for me, you know, Otani,
- 9:56I mean showing off on the big stage, like taking taking Tanner howk who
- 10:01has just been phenomenal this year, not just taking him deep, like taking
- 10:07him deep, like making him look silly. I mean that that was absolutely
- 10:13impressive to me. You know, I also think there was a lot to
- 10:16be said for what like, as you said, that the young pitching talent.
- 10:22I think that was a big takeaway for me is the number of just
- 10:24young fireballers in there. Mason Miller did look fantastic. To your point,
- 10:30I was excited to see Crochet out there, was excited to see how Spie
- 10:33Spietani taking care of him. There's just a lot to see there of I
- 10:39say, you know, it wasn't your old schooled you know, ten to
- 10:43fifteen years ago, like it's all the big names, Well they're having a
- 10:46good year or now. There's so many great young players and I absolutely absolutely
- 10:52love that. And I have to also call out, you know, Bob
- 10:56Nightingale. I don't know if you if you saw his his tweet after Otani
- 11:01hit his massive home run, and I think what he tweeted out was the
- 11:03last first home run the All Star Game since nineteen ninety four. He got
- 11:07a good razzing over on Twitter for that because he forgot to put by a
- 11:09Dodger in the tweed. Piazza was the last one in nineteen ninety which is
- 11:16crazy considering like this the talent that rolls through Los Angeles that like Mike Piazza
- 11:22in I think it was in ninety six. Yeah, because I found ninety
- 11:26six. Ninety six is when the last Dodger home run was before Otani.
- 11:31Yeah. Actually the teams that are like in last place, Terry Steinbach for
- 11:35the A's back in nineteen eighty eight. That's the last time in Oakland A
- 11:39hit a homer in the All Star Game, and the Diamondbacks had never done
- 11:43it. But that's only since ninety eight, so that's not quite as crazy
- 11:46as nineteen eighty eight. That's a long time. Hey, kntell Mark,
- 11:50I look pretty good. So maybe next year. Maybe next year. So
- 11:52oh, it was. It was. It was a great, you know,
- 11:54All Star game. You know, I do like to feels like they're
- 12:00are actually playing for something where your past that hasn't. I could not stand
- 12:05David Ortiz walking around the field interview and everybody during the game. But I
- 12:09think that's just the gimmick of the game itself. So lots fun, great
- 12:16game. Please please please get different jerseys. Actually, I think that's going
- 12:20to be happening. It did sound like in one of the interviews Manfred did
- 12:26around this All Star Game, he commented that they're already looking into going back
- 12:31to the old way of doing things, where people would or players would show
- 12:35up in where their actual team jersey wrote her home equivalent, and then it's
- 12:41also like it's just great to be able to see that representation for each team
- 12:45as well as like, it was always my favorite part of the All Star
- 12:48Game as a kid, just being able to watch all the players be named,
- 12:52because especially back in the nineties, you know, we didn't have access
- 12:56to MLB dot TV and weren't able to see all these players, and so
- 13:01you saw them through baseball cars, you saw them through pictures here and there
- 13:05in the newspaper or Sports Illustrated, But to be able to like really see
- 13:11that player and see them in that jersey was really It's always been one of
- 13:15my favorite parts. And certainly these jerseys that have all matched and ugly matched
- 13:22have really ruined a lot of that expect because I do think that they'll probably
- 13:26like with the route they'll probably end up going is like they'll wear their home
- 13:31and way jerseys respectively for al n L and then do something in terms of
- 13:35like a funky hat, which I can live with. Yeah, I was
- 13:39actually thinking the opposite. It's gonna be like they with the team their own
- 13:41hat and do something. But like it's gonna be some version of that where
- 13:45they're still showing their team. But I would much rather prefer the jersey.
- 13:50And you know, I actually loved them to have you know, a hat
- 13:54that's you know, clearly m l or ale but still matching their team colors.
- 13:58Like there's a way that or the inverse like have the you know the
- 14:01Yankees hat or on Loon Soto, but it is color coordinated with the rest,
- 14:05Like I think there's fun ways to do it. It's just a jersey
- 14:09snaff foos for the season continues. I mean, I think I saw the
- 14:15comments like it looks like we have a Beer League men's softball team out there
- 14:18with with those things. It was it was something else, but hey,
- 14:24it was a fun game. It was great to see at least the two
- 14:26thirds that I saw, and I'll have to go back and catch it in
- 14:31six through eight later. Luckily not much happened during those endings. Yeah,
- 14:33you didn't miss a whole ton that that's sexually like when none of the scoring
- 14:37happened, So you didn't miss out on a lot there. But yeah,
- 14:41also with the All Star Game, we obviously had the home run derby with
- 14:46Tiascar, Hernandez beating out Bobby Witt in the last round, which I think
- 14:50that was the most dramatic part of the evening, with Bobby Witt Junior going
- 14:56into those extra swings and hitting the last ball up against the left center field
- 15:05wall, you know, just literally a foot short from being able to tie
- 15:09up to Oscar Hernandez, but also mercifully at that point, I was kind
- 15:13of ready for it to be over. It was a very long home run
- 15:16derby with the new format, And I'll get your opinion here in a little
- 15:20bit, but I'll share mine first in terms of, like I thought it
- 15:22was good. I think I liked it, but it did drag a little
- 15:26bit early on, especially with those bonus balls after your three minutes, that
- 15:31it did feel like maybe if I had to tweak it going forward again,
- 15:35that I would keep the same format open in the beginning, no tournament in
- 15:39terms of like having the eight players go and get their thirty forty pitches or
- 15:45whatever it was in the three minutes and then no bonus time after that.
- 15:50Maybe like you get like some sort of bonus for extra length in your homer
- 15:56but I do feel like if you're just kind of making that more straightforward process.
- 16:02Saving the bonus balls for that playoff format, I think works better once
- 16:06you get into the semi final and final, because I think what we also
- 16:08saw during the home run derby was that guys were getting tired after having to
- 16:14hit all those balls in the first round and get through that three minute stretch.
- 16:18That a lot of them were able to focus more on the bonus balls
- 16:22when they got to the semi final and final. And I think it can
- 16:25work in that situation. It creates the drama, but I don't know if
- 16:29you necessarily need it in that first round. Yeah, I think you hit
- 16:33one of the big things that was the players got tired. It was a
- 16:37lot, and I do think they just come by almost too many elements.
- 16:41It's like called the speed round at the beginning. Then you have the three
- 16:47outs and then if you get a long ball, then you get another.
- 16:49Like it was just a little too much for me, and I'm gonna throw
- 16:55a proposal out there. I would love to see them. I love the
- 16:57format. I actually love the format of open first round and then kind of
- 17:02going into the into the kind of head to head after that. I'd like
- 17:06to see that first round just be the the three minutes already, you know
- 17:11pitches that that is what it is. Once that's done, that's all you
- 17:14get, like go through that and then i'd like to see them switch when
- 17:17they gets ahead to head go back to the old school ten outs. I'd
- 17:19like to see them completely flip that back because guys were getting so tired.
- 17:22I'd like to see them kind of relax, get a chance, but put
- 17:26a timer on it. Still put a timer on it, Like you get
- 17:30ten outs, but you can't go more than you know, five minutes or
- 17:33something. I don't know what it is, because you can't just take seventeen
- 17:37pitches because you're you know, pitching coach can't throw. But i'd like to
- 17:41see that because I think that's when you, you know, you really get
- 17:44into this relaxed flow. You start to see the real big long balls in
- 17:47there, like you get to really see them see that power, and they're
- 17:52just not exhausting themselves with all those swings. So you know, I didn't
- 17:56I think it was I thought it was exciting and I kind of liked to
- 17:57better in some formats we've had in the past. I'm glad that they made
- 18:00some changes. And the other thing i'd like to see is some way and
- 18:06what with my proposal, I'm hoping this goes there is Like I think there's
- 18:08you're just not getting as bigger the names get into that Home Run Derby as
- 18:12you have in the past, just because it's a lot, it's a big
- 18:15commitment and you know, you Shoheo Tani doesn't want to risk getting hurts.
- 18:22You know, you know, Juan Soto is not gonna gonna go after it.
- 18:26It's just not worth his time. Like it's so no offense to ta
- 18:30Oscar Hernandez or Bohm or you know, anybody in that that range. But
- 18:34like, man, we we didn't have some of the guys I would like
- 18:37to see in that in that derby, So I'd like to see a little
- 18:42more exclusivity coming back to the derbyan future years. Not sure how we get
- 18:48there, but it was fun all around, yeah, And I mean I
- 18:55do think that it is also just really funny that, like Pete Alonzo the
- 18:57Home Run Derby King like bombed out so early, and I think it was
- 19:03a bummer putting Marcelo Zuna on that stage, Like it just didn't feel great
- 19:07trying to watch that. In terms of I mean, he's at a DUI
- 19:11and a domestic violence issue that like it's not exactly some way I want to
- 19:15be putting on that sort of stage where like it's very much like he's the
- 19:21only thing going on in baseball for those three minutes when he's hitting, you
- 19:23know, Like I just I don't feel right ever watching marcels Yeah, and
- 19:30I can't ever like I'm impressed by like being able to for those announcers to
- 19:36even just like hold it together that I I guess I don't know if I
- 19:38can like quite put that mask on. And part of it too is like
- 19:42Gunner really did not show up for this. Gunner Henderson did not play his
- 19:48part in the home run derby in terms of like being that star power,
- 19:51And so I mean I do think that like with the game getting younger and
- 19:55younger, that will constantly have new stars kind of come through. And even
- 20:00like Alec Bohm really impressed me. You know, he's never been a huge
- 20:03home run hitter, but you can just see with his big lovers that it
- 20:07worked in this format. So I think there's a possibility that we can find
- 20:11new stars to kind of keep things fresh. If you know, Aaron Judge.
- 20:15You know, Tanie don't want to do it every year, but it's
- 20:17just gonna also require some of those new stars to play along and actually make
- 20:22sure that they do their part. Yeah, I mean, let me throw
- 20:25another suggestion, she just because it's fun. You know what if you had
- 20:29kind of a veterans versus you know, future stars type type of format here,
- 20:33and I'm just looking at home run leaders here, and if you would
- 20:36have had thinking of your names, you had Aaron Judge, you had Jose
- 20:41Ramirez, Ralfie Devers and Juan Soto on one side, and on the other
- 20:45side you had Gunner Henderson. I think you can say, o, Tani
- 20:48from from a young Gun perspective, maybe bring in a Alec Bohm and Nolan
- 20:55Gorman and Elie de la Cruz like on the other side, like they have
- 20:59to go against each other, and then the winner of the Young Guns heads
- 21:03off against the the you know the error Judge. Let's be honest, if
- 21:07he's if he's in there, we know where that's going. I think that,
- 21:11you know, again, another way to really get some that young talent
- 21:14on the big stage would be would be fun to watch. Yeah, I
- 21:18think that would make a nice little interesting twist as well. It's like,
- 21:21yeah, if there was some sort of team aspect to it, because it
- 21:25did also feel like when this came into the prime time the home Run Derby,
- 21:30it was much more of like a rivalry between Ale and and all,
- 21:33partly because you know, there wasn't constant interleague and there actually like was just
- 21:38not very much mixed mixing between the teams until you got into the World Series,
- 21:44and so the All Star Game did feel more combative then I think it
- 21:49does nowadays, which I don't know if it's necessarily like a good or a
- 21:52bad thing, because I do like also seeing all these stars having good time
- 21:56joking around meeting new people. Yeah, Like I saw one clip where,
- 22:02like some of the social media going around where they were asking younger All Stars
- 22:07like what celebrity would impress them the most that they met, and C.
- 22:11J. Abrams's answer was actually O Tani And so like there's a lot of
- 22:15that going around too, where there's just players impressed by other players, and
- 22:19so yeah, I think if they can find some way to maybe like create
- 22:23some extra drama through like what you said in terms of like stars versus bets
- 22:30or al versus NL or some other sort of format maybe like right handed versus
- 22:34left handed or something they could create another twist and yeah, Paul Ridy and
- 22:41left he hitting at the same time. Yeah, yeah, both slinging at
- 22:44the same time. There's some kid, little kidney outfit'll just getting taken out.
- 22:48But yeah, Rob Manfred, if you if you need some ideas,
- 22:52you know where to reach us. It is at cards categories at gmail dot
- 22:56com. Does he live in Denmark? Sorry? All right. The other
- 23:03big thing that we had happened over this past week is the MLB Draft,
- 23:07and so I think we'll go into maybe a little bit deeper dive into next
- 23:11week because like I the like full results aren't even in Baseball Reference yet,
- 23:18so like that's actually kind of like a hallmark of the summer for me in
- 23:22terms of like sorting back through in dynasty rankings and trying to find new players
- 23:26to add to those watch lists. Because one of the things that I've always
- 23:32leveraged is I forget who did this study, but they did a study at
- 23:36some point where like the younger side of the high schoolers really perform better,
- 23:41like over the arc of their career, like Carl's career is a good example
- 23:44of this, where he came into the draft really young, and you can
- 23:47like really see it when you get into the Baseball Reference draft pages in terms
- 23:51of, like some of these high schoolers are coming out and they're actually like
- 23:53nineteen and some are like seventeen and a half, and like that makes a
- 23:59huge difference in terms of their development that you know, if you think about
- 24:02it. Obviously a nineteen year old would beating up high school competition a lot
- 24:06more so than a seventeen year old who's still kind of developing. So I
- 24:10really love doing that after each draft. But Baseball Reference doesn't have it even
- 24:15all loaded in right now, and even like Fangrafts, they're still tabulating their
- 24:19second and third day result analysis. So I figured we can focus mostly on
- 24:25the top end of the draft here, which had Travis Bizana from Oregon State
- 24:29going to Cleveland with the number one pick. Then the Red surprise everybody by
- 24:36not taking Charlie Condon, so Charlie Condon falls to the Rockies at third,
- 24:40which I think we can also start maybe even doing this analysis that Charlie Condon's
- 24:47got to be like the number one overall player in a first year player draft.
- 24:49Now, right, because like you're putting that type of bat in Coors
- 24:53Field, the ceiling just becomes astronomical. Yeah, you're right, you can't
- 25:00not take him, but it does not feel right because it's the Rockies.
- 25:03Like it's one of those I'm like, I feel like I'm setting myself up
- 25:06for heartburn for the next five years. But at the same point, like
- 25:10of anybody to be put in that scenario, like Conton's like the guy that
- 25:15was the perfect match for the Rockies, and you know, it's just it
- 25:19would be amazing to see what he can do there. I was very surprised
- 25:23that the Reds did not take him. At the same time, I for
- 25:27the Reds taking Chase Burns, who is probably the most ready pitcher in the
- 25:33draft, high end potential, top of the front line starter for a team
- 25:37that's got all this young hitting talent and questionable on the pitching side. I
- 25:42can see what the Reds are trying to do because the Conton's probably a few
- 25:45years away. He still had he's got some work to do, and you
- 25:52know, with the Rockies three four years away, maybe just the way that
- 25:56I liked to do things. So yeah, I think you're right. First
- 26:00your player drafts, is Condon with Azana not too far behind him, is
- 26:03probably going to be where where you're starting. Yeah, I think I am
- 26:08on board there too, And I mean I think my number three is actually
- 26:11the guy who fell seventh to the Cardinals, who lots of people had penciled
- 26:17in as like a top two or three pick. And I know fangrafts and
- 26:22baseball perspectives had Condon and Bazana and the Cardinals pick JJ Weatherholt as like their
- 26:29own kind of tier at the top. That it's kind of crazy that he
- 26:32fell down to the Cardinals as the As skipped over him, they took Nick
- 26:37Kurtz, the Socks skipped over him taking Hagen Smith, which I absolutely hated,
- 26:41like I in any other situation for the White Sox or any other team,
- 26:47like maybe Hagen Smith would would make sense there at the number five pick.
- 26:49But the White Sox don't need another like weird slot lefty, and they
- 26:56need a bat like they should have taken who went six, which is Jack
- 27:00cagleone to the Royals. I think that was another steal. But certainly weather
- 27:03Holt going to the Cardinals that seven sets them up really wonderfully because you don't
- 27:10need him to play shortstop. That Mason win has that held down, He's
- 27:15got the defense, and you can just let weather Holt. I think the
- 27:18reason maybe he dropped a little bit was because of his injury history. But
- 27:22you can mitigate that a little bit if you're able to slot him in at
- 27:26second base. You know, yeah, I I'm right there with you.
- 27:29Like the second the a's to Connitt Kurtz like you're just like you could almost
- 27:33see the path, like it it's gonna be a very good shot. The
- 27:37weather Hoolt falls to the Cardinals, Who's a team that wanted They wanted Weatherholt.
- 27:41They were excited about him, and he you know, if it hadn't
- 27:44been for that injury, he probably would have been I think he already was
- 27:45in discussion for first overall. I think he would have been a very very
- 27:51high likelihood that he would have been that top overall pick. And you know,
- 27:55the Cardinals say that they they've looked at him very closely, have zero
- 27:59concerns from a or ability perspective. So they're drafting just like I do.
- 28:03So it's you know, it's it's it'll be interesting to see. But I
- 28:07think there's a good chance the weather Hold is maybe the best hitter that comes
- 28:10out of this pure hitter that comes out of the class. Condon probably from
- 28:15a power perspective to be hard, and Bazana is going to be very very
- 28:18good as well. You also have to remember that this draft class is not
- 28:22the highest quality in general of drafting classes. You got spoiled last year for
- 28:26sure. Yeah, and so you know, it's it's kind of hard when
- 28:30you look year over year. I really think once you got past that first
- 28:34seven, like there was a pretty significant drop after after the Cardinals picked,
- 28:41and you know, as you started looking at some of the prep prep guys
- 28:45things like that, it's just the excitement wasn't quite quite there. Maybe a
- 28:49little bit excitement when the Mariners took a switch switch pitching pitcher. Uh,
- 28:55that's exactly where I was going to go next, because it's really great when
- 28:57you're going through the uh the actual like rundown and you see a guy on
- 29:03the bats throws on the MLB Draft tracker and it's an S S and that
- 29:08is I'm gonna butcher this so bad Gerangelo Kajente or I don't know how I'm
- 29:18it's not on Baseball Reference and so I don't know exactly how to pronounce that,
- 29:22but he is a switch pitcher from Mississippi State. I'm just gonna call
- 29:26him Durangelo because that's also that feels great rolling off the tongue. That's going
- 29:30to be fascinating to watch to see if he actually does get a shot to
- 29:34prove that he can switch pitch. And the other I think fascinating thing we'll
- 29:40see is whether or not Caglione sticks as a to a player in terms of
- 29:45pitching and hitting. Right now, obviously, the both of those franchises and
- 29:51the Royals and the Mariners want to tell that their new picks, you know,
- 29:53they're going to give them every shot. But we'll see how long that
- 29:56lasts for both of those guys. And because of that though, I mean,
- 30:00if Kaglione continues to be a two way player and like the Royals really
- 30:07commit to it, I mean, he's another player who I think I've probably
- 30:12gotten fourth in a first year player draft, behind who we talked about,
- 30:17because I'm not totally sure kagleone has the arm to pitch, but if he
- 30:22starts coming through like he could end up being the most fantasy relevant player out
- 30:26of this draft pretty easily. If he turns into some sort of power hitter
- 30:30relievers, I think where the route would go with him. Yeah, I
- 30:34think Kagleon's probably one of the highest variability from an outcome players that you have
- 30:40in here, because he he has crazy power and he's a very good pitcher.
- 30:44But he also is a pretty free swinger, like doesn't necessarily swing anything
- 30:51in the zone. He swings a little bit of everything anywhere and then makes
- 30:53really solid contact. So I think he's one of those that I you know,
- 30:57I could argue that if you're wanting to upside go with him. But
- 31:00if you're sitting here going, hey, I want I want somebody that I
- 31:03know is going to make an impact, I'm probably gonna bump them down a
- 31:06few spots maybe between behind you know, the two pictures there with Burns and
- 31:10Smith. But either way, like I I'll say, and I'm probably I'm
- 31:14throwing Kurts out. Like, don't get me wrong, Kurts is pretty pretty
- 31:18good. And wake Forest had to be thrilled with all the guys they had
- 31:22going in this draft because I think three of the top ten, yeah,
- 31:27we should have just unheard of, so they should have probably done better as
- 31:32a team, but I mean they were good all season, just like,
- 31:36yeah, baseball playoffs is a crap shoot, man, it absolutely is.
- 31:40But hey, it was a fun draft. I loved the Baseball draft relative
- 31:45to like the NFL Draft or anything like that, because they actually they can
- 31:48get through the draft, like I don't know how much of it you actually
- 31:52watched live, Like they're pumping through these picks and I just to sit in
- 31:57one of the rooms and see how much they went through, like, you
- 32:04know, I being a Cardinals fan, I've read a lot about the Cardinals
- 32:07prep and how different it was for them to prep for having a top pick
- 32:10rather than back of the back of the first round. And I think they
- 32:15literally just didn't know what to do when they realized whether it was going to
- 32:17fall to them, because they did not know they're pick till it like eighty
- 32:21so it was like, well, no brainer and go home for the night,
- 32:24guys type of thing. But I did love the fact that, you
- 32:29know, Manfred was getting through like every like five minutes or less, there
- 32:32was an announcement old player and teams were just absolutely on top of it.
- 32:37So it was fun to watch. I absolutely love love the draft. And
- 32:42there's gonna be a few names. We'll get into it. Like as you
- 32:44said here, not too too long, but I'm gonna put you on the
- 32:49spot and you can defer, but give me give me one name later down
- 32:53the draft. Later down the draft can be later for a S round something
- 32:57like that that you're kind of excited and maybe keeping an eye on as you
- 33:00kind of get into the first year player drafts. Who is kind of jumping
- 33:06out of you as a guy that you might want to invest a little bit
- 33:09in that maybe isn't jumping out to everybody else. Yeah, I mean,
- 33:13especially like I try to look through and find guys that could be quicker movers
- 33:19coming through systems. And I do think actually, like even though you were
- 33:25just dogging the A's and their pick with Kurtz there Tommy White going later in
- 33:32the in the first day in the second round to Oakland. I've always liked
- 33:38watching Tommy White play at LSU during college baseball season, and he has a
- 33:44great feel for hitting and just like he's a ballplayer, Like he's like a
- 33:50very classic like Todd Fraziery third baseman, where like I think there is a
- 33:54path where because he was there for so long and let's see, he is
- 34:00is twenty one, So it just the way that his game has developed over
- 34:06the years at ELSEU, I don't know if Whites got too much more to
- 34:10be able to add to his game, and so I wouldn't be surprised to
- 34:14maybe see the athletics push him along quickly, and because of that, I
- 34:19think you can move him up a little bit more in first year player drafts
- 34:22relative to where he was drafted. Part of it, too, is like
- 34:25the way that this draft went is lots of teams kind of in the middle
- 34:31ish rounds or like middleish picks of the first round, after like Tennis,
- 34:37started taking underslot guys to be able to try to save money to go into
- 34:42the second you can see it like in the second round and the comp picks,
- 34:45there's a lot more high schoolers to start going because they can take the
- 34:49money that they saved from that first round pick, you know, pay them
- 34:52a little bit less than their slot, and then use that money to try
- 34:55to convince a high schooler to not go to their college commitment. So because
- 35:00of that, it looks like Tommy White I think fell more than what he
- 35:05could actually be. And he's also going to be one of those guys where
- 35:07you're going through and looking at like those Spangrass rankings, those Baseball Perspectives rankings,
- 35:12Baseball America rankings, the actual like future value on him is going to
- 35:16be lower than what it will be for fantasy because he's bat first over glove
- 35:22and so because of that, I think he's like that type of player where
- 35:28it reminds me a little bit of like when Patrick Wisdom was like running hot,
- 35:30you know what I mean, where you're like, the war is terrible,
- 35:34but like from a fantasy perspective, it can work because the power is
- 35:37so tremendous. Yeah, you're not wrong there, So hey, I have
- 35:42to I have to throw one out as well, because you know, I
- 35:45only asked you because I had somebody yes too serious. So I'm gonna go
- 35:50to the exact opposite of the spectrum, becase you're talking about guy's moves quick,
- 35:52I'm gonna go with probably the best left hand from the draft to drop
- 35:57to twenty four, which is the of Kim Camminetti, which was cam Camanetti
- 36:02coming out of Arizona High School. And we're talking about a left handed that
- 36:07actually reclassified to get into this year's draft at a seventeen rather than the next
- 36:12year's draft, so we graduated early to get into the draft. He throws
- 36:15like ninety eight and he has a lineage, he can really spin the ball,
- 36:20and he went to Atlanta. I mean, you're talking about a team
- 36:24that's been taking high draft picks pitchers and they're seeming to work out, and
- 36:29they're moving them fast through the system. You're talking about a seventeen year old
- 36:32here that they can actually go slightly slower with. We're talking about the guy
- 36:37that's going to be up by the time he's twenty, and he's going to
- 36:39be just blowing gas. And so he's you know, he probably fell due
- 36:44to concerns from against maybe a sign ability perspective. You know, a lot
- 36:47of folks had him as a top ten, top fifteen type of talent,
- 36:52and he dropped a little bit down further. So I think that's people are
- 36:53kind of kind of looked past him based on age, based on being a
- 36:59little further down the draft. But I absolutely love high upside fireballer, big
- 37:04four pitch mix going to the Braves. There's nothing else that you want with
- 37:08a team that can develop pitching like that. Yeah, and I mean he
- 37:12was actually in consideration when you asked me that question that it's the same sort
- 37:16of thing where I mean, just look at how quickly they moved A.
- 37:20J. Smith Shaver and Kristin Waldrip and Spencer Schwellenbach through that system. That
- 37:24they seem to really have a skill than Atlanta of identifying young pitchers, honing
- 37:30in that arsenal quickly, and then moving them along so that they're ready to
- 37:35fire away in the major leagues. Okay, Well, one other topic that
- 37:40we have, well, actually I kind of buried this lead the entire time
- 37:44too. I was so excited about the anniversary and getting into all these All
- 37:46Star festivities that we are talking about twenty twenty four tops Chrome today. That's
- 37:52going to be our bigger deep dive. But along with that, we've got
- 37:57one more kind of bit of baseball card news, and that was I'll link
- 38:00to this in the show notes. Everything else that we discuss is always in
- 38:04the show notes, and that is did you see Matt Strom's belt from the
- 38:08All Star Game? That what he did is he I'm not sure like who
- 38:15made this for him, but they took a bunch of his baseball cards fashioned
- 38:19it into a belt. Lots of them are commons. I think there was
- 38:22like maybe one or two refractors, but the like piece to resist Dance is
- 38:29like right on the buckle. It's actually the Golden Mirror short print is like
- 38:34he's got one of those like into the belt. So like he had to
- 38:36go and hunt one of those down and get into the belt because yeah,
- 38:39certainly all those common cards weren't that hard to do. And I saw an
- 38:44interview with him that that was what he was most excited about too, that
- 38:46that's actually his own personal favorite card of his is that Golden Mirror short print.
- 38:52So I just thought that that was especially cool, kind of blending everything
- 38:57that we love about baseball together and it's a pretty it's a slick belt.
- 39:01I hope that he makes use of it, And like where is it during
- 39:04the regular season as well? Yeah, well there's there's actually uh and I
- 39:07don't know if it's where he got it from or not, but there's actually
- 39:09a website called card belts dot com and they make belts for different teams out
- 39:16of cards. Uh, you know, they're cool seventy dollars, but you
- 39:22know, that's that seems to you, you know, I'm just looking at
- 39:24one for the Dodgers here. As to your point, it's all it's mostly
- 39:28common cards and things like that, but it just it's they're one of a
- 39:30kind, basically art that you can have, and uh, when you actually
- 39:35go to look at purchase one, it actually tells you the list of all
- 39:37the players that are on the belt. And so this Dodgers one, I
- 39:40had asked some Austome Barnes, Clayton Kershaw, Cody belt and her David Price,
- 39:45you know, on and on on all the way through Oral Hirscheiser and
- 39:47uh, you know our favorite Gary Carter. So there's all kinds of kind
- 39:52of fun things there. So so I'm guessing that's where where he went got
- 39:55his custom belt made. But hey, card belts dot Com shout out,
- 40:01we do not have a sponsorship deal yet, but hey there's always a chance.
- 40:07Yeah he must have. And oh man, they have so many crazy
- 40:10belts on here. They have a Mustaches and all Mustaches belt. They have
- 40:17Desert Storm belts from this is like a very infamous set in card collecting,
- 40:22like Around the Desert Storm, the First Desert Storm War, like the first
- 40:27War in Iraq, of like the big political players. They made trading cards
- 40:30of them, and like the most absurd card from that set is a Saddam
- 40:35Hussein card. So I don't know if that's featured on any of these belts,
- 40:39but I can see it looks like this one's got Dick Cheney on it,
- 40:44most likely, I think, so. Yeah, lots of lots of
- 40:47Maybe you know, if you like your belt to come with some war criminals.
- 40:52Card belts dot Com got you hooked up. I'm just trying to figure
- 40:54out if I can go to work tomorrow with one of these belts on what
- 40:58somebody's gonna say? I think you should pick the garbage pale kids belt.
- 41:01Then you're that seems more work appropriate. It probably does. It's there's I
- 41:07don't know, the mustache belt, that's that funny glasses. There's some good
- 41:13stuff here. So we need to move on because I'm going to buy a
- 41:16belt. Yeah, this is not good. Let's move on to We had
- 41:21one addition to the sports card, the baseball card release calendar that was added
- 41:29since we last talked, and that was Top's Finus is coming out on August
- 41:31seventh. So that's a pretty quick turnaround here. As we are talking on
- 41:36July seventeenth, with the TOPS Chrome release date today, otherwise still the same
- 41:42sets that are coming out in August, with Panini Boys a Summer on the
- 41:45twenty first, Panini Prism on the twenty eighth, and Donris Shelved as a
- 41:50TBD. But that is going to be a quick turnaround in terms of,
- 41:52like usually there's a bigger gap between Chrome coming out and Finance coming out,
- 41:57so they're really coming out rapid fire, and I think a lot of it's
- 42:01going to also be they were trying to capitalize on the Jackson Holliday rookie card
- 42:07craze and hoping that he would really be cruising along in Major League Baseball right
- 42:10now, because you can see on like all the finest stuff that they're really
- 42:15featuring that Jackson Holiday card. And obviously Elie de la Cruz is gonna end
- 42:21up being the face of TOPS Chrome twenty twenty four, so you could see
- 42:24where they're trying to stagger and make this all work out. It's just kind
- 42:28of maybe not falling white into the order that Tops was planning when they put
- 42:34all these sets together. Yeah, that is is unfortunate, but hey,
- 42:38I absolutely TOPS Finance is just a great product, So it'll be kind of
- 42:44fun to see, you know, how how well that one plays through,
- 42:47and you know, stands up against some of those historic sets that Finance has
- 42:52always had, and the design this year looks, you know, almost I
- 42:54have to say, fire esque Tops Funk fire esque. So maybe they're going
- 43:00a hint there, but definitely going to be a set driven by some big
- 43:05names like Ala Moto, to your point, Holiday, Dela Cruz. So
- 43:08I hope to grab some, but I'm guessing this one's a pretty pricey set,
- 43:14if I if I recall, like almost all sets these days, Yeah,
- 43:19I don't know what the actual pre order came in at because they're out
- 43:23of stock and I can't see the pricing. Oh yeah, sure, it's
- 43:27fifty for a box. Yeah, that is rough because you don't get very
- 43:30many cards in a Finance box. You only get sixty total cards autos with
- 43:35two autos. But that's that is pricey because it's usually been a tick under
- 43:39two hundred traditionally. Yep. There we are, thank you Tops, yep.
- 43:45And with that, I mean we're going to keep the theme I think
- 43:47of over priced cards going. When we return from this break to top or
- 43:53talk twenty twenty four Tops Chrome. So stick around and we're going to take
- 43:59a short break and be back. All right, Welcome back, everybody.
- 44:20We are going to do an overview of twenty twenty four Tops Chrome, which
- 44:23is releasing today as we talk on July seventeenth. So we've been sorting through
- 44:30Twitter and read it and seeing like all the hits that have been coming through
- 44:32out there, and I mean, I think if you want to get some
- 44:37of our thoughts on the overall design from the twenty four sets, certainly go
- 44:42back to when we discuss Top Series one back in March or February Winter was
- 44:47released, because that's what they are using as the base design here for Tops
- 44:52Chrome per usual. But the difference is obviously moving it into a chrome finish
- 44:58and what Tops is here as well as being able to incorporate a lot of
- 45:01the really hot rookies into the actual base checklist as well. So you've got
- 45:07all of the big guys in terms of Elie de la Cruz and Jackson Holiday
- 45:14and Mason Win. For us, we got a level a little bit of
- 45:17Mason Win and that will really allow people to find something to chase, because
- 45:24yeah, it's gonna cost you a pretty penny they start ripping some of these
- 45:28items, and we were discussing during the break a little bit some of the
- 45:31breaks that we've seen out there and how maybe they're struggling to fill up a
- 45:37little bit because of some of the price points as well. Because what it's
- 45:42come down to is we've got the highest price per a blaster box we've ever
- 45:45had for a tops Chrome product. It's forty bucks for a blaster and that
- 45:51gets you twenty eight total cards. So you're paying forty bucks for twenty eight
- 45:57cards, that's not even including tax, and you're getting just a pithy two
- 46:01Sepia two pink refractors, both unnumbered guaranteed in there. If you're looking for
- 46:07a jumbo box where you're actually guaranteed three autographs, that's going to cost you
- 46:14four hundred bucks this year. And that was traditionally clocking in somewhere around the
- 46:17three hundred dish to three fifty range. It has been climbing more and more
- 46:22over the years, but I think traditionally it has been closer to three hundred
- 46:28than ever at this three ninety nine price. A regular old hobby box one
- 46:32autograph two hundred dollars. That is rough, rough, rough, As we're
- 46:37trying to also look at some of these odds, we'll get into some of
- 46:42the checklists and like what you can actually maybe get with some of those autographs
- 46:46as well. That makes this a little bit of a tough product. But
- 46:50what are your thoughts overall on this pricing and where, like I think that
- 46:55this might actually be pushing us to the point where like it might be tough
- 47:00for tops to move some of this stuff because like they've kind of killed like
- 47:05the supply and demand price point. You know, yeah, they are pushing
- 47:09this one. Like I think we've talked about before that it feels like chrome
- 47:14is starting to creep into the Bowman type area where you almost can't access it
- 47:20because if you want to actually if you want to be a collector and build
- 47:22out the set of chrome things like that, you've got to buy multiple of
- 47:28these boxes to get there, and it is gonna be tough, and you
- 47:32know, the the values is gonna be so heavily based in the hits.
- 47:39But at the same time, nobody's gonna want to let those singles go because
- 47:43man, I paid so much for a box, and so it's gonna be
- 47:45really interesting to see how the secondary market starts to react. And I have
- 47:52a feeling based on what I've seen with parallels and stuff, this thing's up
- 47:54produced quite well. I haven't seen how it's produced against his uh years in
- 48:00the past, but I have a feeling it's it's it's up there. It's
- 48:05it's done pretty well. Because I do say the cards look nice. The
- 48:08cards, I know, you know, we were kind of mixed on the
- 48:13the actual design for the paper in the series one, series two, but
- 48:17the chrome's chrome looks pretty good, especially the refractors. That that design is
- 48:22working a lot better, it feels like in the in the chromes. So
- 48:24excited about that. I think there's a few cool new parallels as well this
- 48:30time around, so I think there's a lot of excitement. But to your
- 48:32point, I think, you know, if you're gonna if you're gonna be
- 48:35getting chrome, if you're not a big big deep pockets here, I think
- 48:42you're you're gonna be haveing to focus on the either value box here there,
- 48:45which even at forty bucks, that's that's pretty pretty tough. You're you're gonna
- 48:50have to be looking at potentially uh, you know, fat packs or hangars
- 48:54as we get to that point in time. But most likely I think it
- 48:58breaks. I think it's gonna have to be layer breaks specifically, is where
- 49:01you're going to have to go. You know, be clear, you're not
- 49:06going to go after Elie de la Cruz on Jackson Holiday and player breaks because
- 49:09that that's just insane. If you want to talk about overpaying, that's where
- 49:14to go. But I think if you if you're PC in a player something
- 49:17like that, that's probably your best bet is to get into a pretty hefty
- 49:22box break and be looking to get your your PC guy. That's that's where
- 49:28the wins are going to be with Tops Chrome, at least from my perspective.
- 49:32Yeah, exactly, And it does look like top our Boy Tops production
- 49:36BB on Twitter has calculated the twenty twenty four odds here and in terms of
- 49:45just like total number of cards out there, So every base card's got one
- 49:49hundred and forty six, two hundred and fifty three base card, two hundred
- 49:52and fifty two base cards out there, and it goes down refractors about fourteen
- 49:59thousand. You're looking at around fifty six hundred each of the Sepian pinks that
- 50:05we were talking about negative refractors, This is still like something where I do
- 50:10pick these up. There's only three hundred and ninety six of each of the
- 50:15negative refractors out there. Those are very very rare. That I was reading
- 50:21earlier, there's technically not like pase hits in this product the way that they
- 50:24produced it, So I mean that would traditionally be kind of like a case
- 50:29hit, but it is something where if you find that out in the wild,
- 50:34any sort of negative refractor, I tuck those away because I think those
- 50:38have the potential to turn into something longer term, because there's just not very
- 50:43many out there and people will lose track of them. But yes, I
- 50:46will link to those odds in the show notes so that you can check them
- 50:53out yourself and kind of get into all the inserts as well too, Like
- 50:58this is a very insert heavy product, I think, even more so than
- 51:01it has been in the past. As somebody who has put together master sets
- 51:07of tops Chrome or I used to do refractor sets of Tops Chrome every year.
- 51:12Certainly really difficult to do that this year just because of the price point,
- 51:15because it required ripping a few jumbo boxes and then trying to buy in
- 51:20on lots. But as you said, it's going to be difficult, I
- 51:22think, to get some of the lots of twenty twenty four tops Chrome purchase
- 51:27for yourself off of eBay, because I think people, you know, if
- 51:30they're out there ripping blaster boxes and paying a dollar twenty per card, they're
- 51:35going to try to recruit some of their costs and it's just going to raise
- 51:37those prices across the board initially and it until I think. I do think
- 51:44that some of this stuff is going to be destined for maybe some sales recks
- 51:49here and there, especially if we have some of the big cards like the
- 51:52one of one Jackson Holidays, the one of one Ellie's Let come out here
- 51:57pretty soon, it's going to certainly d grade, just like the overall products,
- 52:01because I mean just looking at these odds too, like there's no way
- 52:07that this retail product, the blaster side, is ever going to be worth
- 52:13the forty dollars price point. Yeah, I agree, And you know,
- 52:16the other morning I'll give you is you know, we're we're talking about this
- 52:21on release day and don't buy anything, especially singles on release day. I
- 52:28was just kind of looking at, you know, some of the prices of
- 52:30sold cards on release day. I was actually surprised to see something like the
- 52:34Elle Rookies and things like that, only being like ten to fifteen bucks.
- 52:37But you're running out here and just seeing like inserts of Otani for this nineteen
- 52:44eighty nine insert for ten dollars, you know, just the base insert you're
- 52:49seeing, you know, any little prism refractors, things like that. Just
- 52:53the prices are already jumping down. Moto's prison refractor going for like twenty dollars.
- 53:00It's a little bit, let's say, all over the place, and
- 53:04so you want to be careful when you when you jump out there, especially
- 53:07on that first day release day, and things are going to be going pretty
- 53:10pricey. There's also gonna be some deals out there. Don't get me wrong,
- 53:14There's gonna be some deals because people don't know where to price, especially
- 53:16things like the negative. So it's definitely a cautionary tale of getting out there
- 53:22when there's a new release like Top Chrome, because there's gonna be some fun
- 53:27deals, but there's gonna be a lot of price inflation that you have to
- 53:30be careful with. Yeah. Absolutely, Okay, Well I hinted at the
- 53:35very large insert checklist, and we've got some repeats from what we've had in
- 53:40previous years. So obviously we've got the nineteen eighty nine inserts that line up
- 53:45with what was released with all of the base tops. You've got repeats of
- 53:52the traditional future Stars checklist. You've got the repeat of the Ultraviolet short prints
- 54:00from last year that were very popular. That's actually I really like these.
- 54:05They're really like Goofy in terms of really bright colors and then cartoonish drawings of
- 54:10these big stars. So Ellie's going to be the big anchor there from the
- 54:15Ultra Violet set, but I think that Otani and the Dodgers is going to
- 54:17be a pretty significant chase as well. You have Youthquake back as well too,
- 54:22which little surprised they went that route because some of those wonder Franco youthquakes
- 54:28have turned into quite the gross little card over time. But you've also got
- 54:34the repeat from the nineteen ninety nine Tops Chrome set, which I like it
- 54:37when they do rerun stuff from the nineties. I mean, it's just like
- 54:42a nostalgia factor, especially for us in terms of they went back and brought
- 54:46back the all Etch inserts, so those will have a very strong nineties just
- 54:54designed to them in the way that they look, and I think that's great,
- 55:00Like I want them to The one that I really want them to bring
- 55:01back is like the Hall of Fame bound ones, which have like aged really
- 55:06funnily from the nineties, especially given like how many steroid users were in that
- 55:10set. So it like a lot of those guys maybe put up Hall of
- 55:14Fame numbers but are never gonna sniff it due to the steroids. But we've
- 55:19also got the repeat of the TOPS Chrome buybacks coming back into this checklist.
- 55:23So you've got prism refractors X fractors and some of those negative refractors that have
- 55:29been re stamped of Otani's and acunyas from last year. I was reading it
- 55:34doesn't say on the Beckett rundown, but I think some of the Kunya ones
- 55:37are signed, but not the Otani ones, So that's something to keep an
- 55:42eye out for. They are doing the buyback program from the twenty twenty four
- 55:45set again with TOPS, where you'll be able to get money back for each
- 55:51MVP base card and parallel, but it is going to be a lot more
- 55:55difficult I think predicting that this year last year, even at this point when
- 56:00Tops Chrome was released, we knew pretty right away that is going to be
- 56:05a Kunya and Otani given the seasons that they're having as opposed to this year,
- 56:09it's gonna be a little bit more of a gamble, I think,
- 56:13right in terms of like we've talked about, Otani's been doing well in the
- 56:15NL MVP, but Bryce Harper's won back to back Player of the Months,
- 56:20Aaron Judge has won back back Player of the Months the AL but once what
- 56:23Soto's certainly in the mix there, and I think both sides, like you
- 56:29do have your front runners, but I think it's gonna be a little bit
- 56:30more of an interesting market play to see how the pricing of some of these
- 56:36stars ebbs and flows over the next couple of months as people kind of push
- 56:40and and poll, you know, within the leaderboard quote unquote for these MVP
- 56:46races. Yeah, I think you have to say, if there's like leaders
- 56:49in the clubhouse right now, it probably is Aaron Judge and Shohe Otani,
- 56:53But you know it's there. They're not that far apart in the Interestingly,
- 56:58like as the ALE guys seem to be like apping the NL guys to in
- 57:00this discussion to a degree, like with Judge and Henderson and Wit and Soto,
- 57:05like all right there at the top of of the league in the AL
- 57:08and really any one of them with a really strong second half or somebody else
- 57:14getting heard or dropping off could absolutely take it. You know, I actually
- 57:17uh would would maybe in the AL if I'm if I'm putting my money somewhere,
- 57:22I might be And this is what's gonna be really interesting. I might
- 57:24go after the guy like a gunner, Henderson. And you know that having
- 57:29Henderson when it could could be kind of interesting just with you know, being
- 57:32such a young player and still so collectible. There's gonna be like this dynamic
- 57:37of collectors wanting to keep his cards versus trade him in versus like Judge ones
- 57:42that you're like, app take my cards. It's you know a big deal.
- 57:45But and then on the uh where where it really gets interesting in the
- 57:47mL side is you could see how case for Elie Dela Cruz. Yes,
- 57:52that that happens, I'd be episode Yes, So what happens here? Would
- 57:55you get an Elie Dela Cruz card? You know out of ninety nine is
- 58:00it more valuable for the buyback wars and valuable to sell it like the values
- 58:06might end up being very wacky for a guy like Dela Cruz, and so
- 58:09it's just very interesting to see how that plays. I'm kind of with you
- 58:14here, I think I'm if I'm chasing that space, I'm probably going after
- 58:21like a Bryce Harper. I'm going to me, I'm probably going after a
- 58:22Gunner. Guys like that that are on really interesting teams, exciting teams.
- 58:29I always think guys that have won it in the past kind of get penalized
- 58:31by the voters, and so yourrotani's and the judges, I think that get
- 58:36penalized. So I'll probably be trying to pick up a few of those here
- 58:37and there, especially if I see him shows, just to have them back
- 58:43pocket and hey, if I hit, I'm thrilled. If not, I
- 58:45got a shiny piece of cardboard. Yeah, and Bobby wit Jr. We
- 58:50didn't talk Bobby wit Junior in that rundown too that I think he's gonna be
- 58:53I think a bit of a dark horse. But yeah, it is going
- 58:57to be interesting to see if people start investing in some of these guys that
- 59:01might be kind of in the top five mix for MVPs, right now and
- 59:06kind of boosting their values on the card market. The other thing I think
- 59:10it could do is that like because I mean, if Ellie has a hot
- 59:15month or two and really pushes that war total up and really starts putting up
- 59:20some crazy numbers, you're going to see I think the value of those inserts
- 59:23go up even higher than you usually would for rookie card inserts, which you
- 59:29know don't usually always hold their value long term very well, because like people
- 59:34would prefer to have the base card and the parallels of the base card.
- 59:37But if he is in the discussion for the MVP buyback and people are going
- 59:44to be turning in those MVP buybacks of maybe some of those Elie de la
- 59:47Cruz rookie cards, I think that they're going to move on to trying to
- 59:53collect some of those inserts. And he's in pretty much every insert checklist,
- 59:58so there's a there's no shortage of La de la Cruz tops Chrome insert rookie
- 1:00:04cards to choose from. But I think people might start navigating towards some of
- 1:00:07those, and we might see one of those really become like possibly one of
- 1:00:12the kind of like one B to the one A of the base card of
- 1:00:16like the face of Eli's rookie cards. Yeah, I think you're absolutely right.
- 1:00:21So then one other thing I want to call out, just as you
- 1:00:23kind of ran through the breakdown of some of the inserts, there's a new
- 1:00:29insert this year that I'm really really excited about. And I don't know if
- 1:00:31you if you've looked at it, it's the light box logo insert. And
- 1:00:37if you're talking about rare inserts that aren't numbered, you can only find these
- 1:00:40in retail products, the Value boxes and the Monster boxes. There's one hundred
- 1:00:45and twenty eight per player. And if you have not seen these, they
- 1:00:49make me think of like the team logo orders from the flagships, Like they
- 1:00:53look really nice. It is a very clean basically the whole background of the
- 1:01:00card where he's generally the background of the photo is the team logo and kind
- 1:01:06of a light box I want to call a neon type of view. And
- 1:01:09so I think those are very very slick cards. I think that that you
- 1:01:14know, they're going to actually kind of command a premium, kind of like
- 1:01:16the team logo cards, because I could see wanting to put together a full
- 1:01:20set there, and I don't think people are going to realize how rare those
- 1:01:22really are until all of a sudden they start trying to get it, get
- 1:01:25a hold of them. And those are going to be, you know,
- 1:01:29especially in a bass card scenario of one hundred and forty six thousand based cards,
- 1:01:34and you're talking rare than the vast majority of numbered cards with those light
- 1:01:39box logos. So is you know, every player has lightboard. I'm called
- 1:01:45a light box, light board, you know, whatever you want to call
- 1:01:46it. And so those those will definitely be fun ones. I think those
- 1:01:52are the ones you're going to find randomly in value boxes that people just don't
- 1:01:54know what they have. Yeah, absolutely, Like I think they are going
- 1:01:59to be slick, and especially for team collectors, like they're gonna be I
- 1:02:01think, pretty big cards to try to collect, and especially because there's going
- 1:02:07to just be not quite you know, like in Eli Dela Cruz on every
- 1:02:13team that like it allows you to find something cool to chase for your team,
- 1:02:15and I do agree that, like, especially this is where this design
- 1:02:21for twenty twenty four tops really starts to shine, is when you're getting like
- 1:02:24just really pushing it to the edge in terms of what's on the card.
- 1:02:30And yeah, I think these are slick, so certainly check out the show
- 1:02:32notes. We'll have a linked there, and then when we also get this
- 1:02:37post up on rasball dot com, we'll have a picture of it there.
- 1:02:40So we'll also have a pictures of some of the other cards that we've talked
- 1:02:44about, so certainly check it out there. Okay, well, let's get
- 1:02:47into maybe some of the autos. So I think the big thing that people
- 1:02:52are gonna be chasing here is it's a little similar to what TOPS has been
- 1:02:55doing with the Bowman Chrome and Bowman over the past few years, where they've
- 1:03:00been putting in Bowman first of historical players like Babe Ruth and Johnny Bench and
- 1:03:07Pete Rose and obviously like the ones that are still living, they've had the
- 1:03:10autograph parallels of those. They've done it again here with putting in some Sandy
- 1:03:16Kofax autos in twenty twenty four Tops Chrome. It's going to be a pretty
- 1:03:21significant chase. And it's they do looks like they look really good, they
- 1:03:25look great, and also it helps that Sandy Kofax has like just one of
- 1:03:30the most killer autos of all time, So that's really going to be a
- 1:03:35huge hit that people are chasing. But other than that, this autograph checklist
- 1:03:42of just like the base that you're going to be getting out of those jumbo
- 1:03:45boxes for those three autos and that one hobby. It is brutal man like.
- 1:03:49So it looks more impressive when you're scrolling through the autograph list on any
- 1:03:54checklist that you're looking at, because all the inserts pretty much have some sort
- 1:04:00of auto parallel to them, and those include the big stars, but those
- 1:04:03are very short printed, they're very limited cards. So usually where you're getting
- 1:04:08with those autos are the rookie chrome autographs. And I don't know if I've
- 1:04:15ever seen one this bad dude. There are so many players that like I've
- 1:04:19never even come close to hearing of, And I think it's gotten to a
- 1:04:25really like critical point this year that like, I think we'll start seeing it
- 1:04:30too. Like if you're out there watching breaks and stuff, I mean,
- 1:04:31you're gonna be seeing so many people flip over some of these autos that you
- 1:04:35know, they paid two hundred dollars for a box and it's like an immediate
- 1:04:41less than five dollars autograph because it's just a rookie that nobody's heard of in
- 1:04:45terms of you know, a backup infielder or a middle reliever. Let me
- 1:04:49see, like I mean, like, yeah, you have Chris Valiomont from
- 1:04:55the the Orioles, Like who's that? Like? I think you can go
- 1:04:59like every third name on this checklist and just be like who. And so
- 1:05:02it's gonna be really tough. I think as this product gets open more and
- 1:05:06more because these are the autos that are in those boxes for the most part,
- 1:05:13that like they especially the unnumbered ones. I don't know how many of
- 1:05:16them they put out there, but it seems like, oh, you've got
- 1:05:19the number sixteen hundred per player of unnumbered of unnumbered auto, the auto rookies.
- 1:05:28So when you when we again we talked about those lightboard you talk about
- 1:05:32the negatives, you talk about all these cards that are unnumbered but really short
- 1:05:38printed. You're talking about, don't you worry? You got your your uh
- 1:05:43what do we want to say? You got your Victor Bodnick's sixteen hundred of
- 1:05:46those and so you know it, man, You're absolutely right. I was
- 1:05:50actually looking at on eBay just to some of the early things being being posted,
- 1:05:56and I'm already seen autos like even Auto out of like four ninety nine
- 1:06:00like ten Bucks, like it's it's it's crazy because there is just people are
- 1:06:08just trying to get their money back. It's like, oh, here's the
- 1:06:10giant De Luca auto for the Rays, like best off O ten Bucks,
- 1:06:14like, I don't know what you want me to do here. And I
- 1:06:15think there's gonna be a lot of guys that are that are playing in that
- 1:06:19that arena. Yeah, I'm sure one of them's gonna hit at some point,
- 1:06:23but I think people are gonna be really surprised at how plentiful those autos
- 1:06:28really are. Yeah, and I mean they're everywhere, so like, yeah,
- 1:06:33that is I think gonna be the big disappointment if you are investing any
- 1:06:38of those hobby boxes or jumbo boxes, because I mean, those are usually
- 1:06:43the names that you're gonna be pulling as opposed to, you know, some
- 1:06:45of the really cool ones, like the Kershaw Venezuela dual autographed, you know,
- 1:06:51because there's a there's not very many of those out there and it's pretty
- 1:06:55easy to hit these autographs from all these rookies. I will say that one
- 1:06:59of the cool ones also very short printed though, because it's only one in
- 1:07:02every fifteen and fifty one hobby packs. One in every fifteen hundred and fifteen
- 1:07:10Jumbo packs are the seam head signatures. So this is a pretty cool checklist
- 1:07:15of just media members in baseball, you know, like Bust only, Don
- 1:07:20Orsillo, Gary Cohen, Joe Buck, Ken Rosenthal, Michael Kay, Ryan
- 1:07:25Rococo. That they are cool. It's a great design, especially like the
- 1:07:30Don Orcillo one, I think is one that people are really chasing because he's
- 1:07:34a pretty popular announcer and has connected really well with Red Sox fans and Padres
- 1:07:41fans over the years. So he's also got a beautiful, wonderful signature.
- 1:07:45It's a wonderful looking card. But not very many of those out there,
- 1:07:48and so I think those are going to be pretty hot collector's items too,
- 1:07:53as people are chasing those down because some of those guys, it's some of
- 1:07:58their debuts in terms of like getting into products. Some of them are repeats,
- 1:08:01like I know Only and Ken Rosenthal have had stuff in archives before,
- 1:08:05but it should be a nice little twist on the traditional auto inserts that are
- 1:08:11out there. Yeah, and I think that's the challenge of the product,
- 1:08:15and especially if you pay attention to all to social media, whether it's Facebook
- 1:08:21groups, whether it's Reddit, whether it's Twitter, whatever it is. All
- 1:08:26you see are the hits. The number of guys I've seen hitting Ellie de
- 1:08:29la Cruz Autos just today, like I only bought my one box. He
- 1:08:33said, look how great it was, Like, yeah, you bought the
- 1:08:36one box for two hundred bucks and you got one card worth three hundred like,
- 1:08:42and I think that that's really going to throw people off because it's so
- 1:08:45easier. You don't see the non hits every once and while somebody will show
- 1:08:49I Actually, one of the ones I saw was somebody had bought I think
- 1:08:53three or four value boxes. They tried to buck the trend with the hobby
- 1:08:59and they were so poorly cooliated that they ended up with like six Jacob de
- 1:09:02Grams and like things like that, and like, oh, how painful to
- 1:09:05buy, you know, four or five forty dollars boxes end up with like
- 1:09:10the same exact bass players. Yeah, in every single one. I think
- 1:09:13that hit tell two Ellis, so I think that you know, paid for
- 1:09:15a half of one box, but you know, yeah, well, and
- 1:09:19I've noticed too that like the quality seems not great this year on the tops
- 1:09:25crumb stuff. I don't know if it's because it's so highly produced or like
- 1:09:29they were in a crunch to get everything done. And like like I said,
- 1:09:31like when we were naming those inserts, we named barely a third of
- 1:09:35them. Like if you go into the checklist that we have linked in the
- 1:09:40show notes, you'll see there's a ton of inserts, and that just creates
- 1:09:43more quality control to check. But lots of these pictures that I'm seeing coming
- 1:09:46up on social media, especially like any refractor or parallel, it does seem
- 1:09:54like there's nicks on like the outside edges in terms of like whiting, it
- 1:10:00does seem that lots of these cards are not very well centered, which has
- 1:10:04been becoming more and more in an issue for tops Chrome over the past few
- 1:10:09years. As like you can tell that they're doing everything they can to just
- 1:10:14like really juice the money out of the market for this product. So I
- 1:10:17think it's going to be a pretty tough grade in terms of like the setout
- 1:10:23there, because all the graders between PSA, SGC and the like usually are
- 1:10:28very tough on Chrome cards overall. And if the quality control hasn't been there,
- 1:10:32and really it's been sorely lacking on lots of other places throughout you know,
- 1:10:38the past year or so since we started this podcast, that it would
- 1:10:41be, yeah, very unsurprising to see lots of low grades, especially as
- 1:10:46people kind of send in these Eli de la Cruz base cards. Yeah,
- 1:10:50that'll be very interesting to see how that plays, because I think you're absolutely
- 1:10:55right, it's and I think a lot of it's coming down to the centering.
- 1:10:59This the design this year is because there's an inner border on the cars
- 1:11:03is very clear when the scenerying is off, and so I think you have
- 1:11:08to be really careful with that when you're trying to to snag a deal,
- 1:11:12because the centering is going to be it's going to be questionable on a lot
- 1:11:15of these cars. Yes, something they keep in mind. Yeah. And
- 1:11:18then so we are getting to the point where you want to do it,
- 1:11:25you want me to do it? This got enough breath left? And I
- 1:11:28think this is you. I think this is you all day. I think
- 1:11:30I think too. So i'll introduce it with if you've listened before, where
- 1:11:35you know we do this every single set when we when we break them down
- 1:11:40to the flagship for the chron for the Bowman, and we have to run
- 1:11:44through every single base set parallel that we have. Let you know what it
- 1:11:49is, let you know how rare it is. Uh, there's just a
- 1:11:53few in Pop's chrome this year, and I have a feeling we don't actually
- 1:11:58have the full list because it seems, yes, that's kind of the thing
- 1:12:01that's going on here. So hopefully you got your drink, Hopefully you're ready
- 1:12:04to go the Palett's wet run us through the parallels to the base set.
- 1:12:10Let us know where they're falling and what you're excited about. Well, I'm
- 1:12:14also going to write off the bat break everybody's heart. No taco fractors this
- 1:12:17year, so if you were hoping for the taco fractors, that is not
- 1:12:23coming back. So I did not miss it. It just is not included
- 1:12:26this year. So here we go. It is voluminous. So for each
- 1:12:31of the base cards three hundred cards in the set, here are all your
- 1:12:34parallels. You have regular refractors, pink refractors, prism refractors, ray wave
- 1:12:42refractors, Sippia refractors, X fractors, negative refractors. All of those are
- 1:12:48unnumbered, so I think of that too. The ray wave is new,
- 1:12:54like they've had ray wave versions but never an unnumbered parallel like this before.
- 1:12:58As we just stated a little bit before, certainly the negative refractors are the
- 1:13:01ones that chase there the the rarest at one in every eighty nine hobby packs.
- 1:13:06And now we get into all of the numbered ones. We have magenta
- 1:13:11speckle refractors of three, fifty, purple speckle refractors of two, ninety nine
- 1:13:16sonar purple refractors of two, seventy five, purple refractors of two, fifty,
- 1:13:21aqua refractors, one ninety nine aqua lava refractors, one ninety nine ray
- 1:13:29wave aqua refractors, one ninety nine blue refractors, one fifty ray wave blue
- 1:13:34refractors, one fifty sonar blue refractors, one twenty five. That's this is
- 1:13:43a sold like. They did not triple up on these colors quite as much
- 1:13:46in previous years that it's gotten. That's absurd. And I'm not even halfway
- 1:13:50through the list at this point, am I. Now when you said triple
- 1:13:54up, they called drupled up on the grid all those greens. Yeah,
- 1:13:59yeah, that's next. So in the list that they have on Beckett,
- 1:14:02this one's also an unnumbered it's a light board logo that we were just talking
- 1:14:05about. It falls here because of just where the rarity is. And then
- 1:14:11you've got those quadruple of the green refractors. You've got green refractors ninety nine,
- 1:14:15green wave refractors of ninety nine, green ray wave refractors of ninety nine,
- 1:14:23sonar green refractors of ninety nine, blue wave refractors of seventy five,
- 1:14:29which I already said regular blue right of one to fifty. So yeah,
- 1:14:34okay, so that's another quad but the blue wave ones are only of seventy
- 1:14:40five, gold refractors of fifty, gold wave refractors of fifty, ray wave
- 1:14:45gold refractors of fifty, orange refractors of twenty five, orange wave refractors of
- 1:14:50twenty five, ray wave orange refractors of twenty five, black refractors of ten,
- 1:14:58ray wave black refractors ten frozen fractors are back again, and so those
- 1:15:02are of negative five. But I think it's like there's five of them that,
- 1:15:06yes, there's you see like them the way they're numbered, it's like
- 1:15:12negative three of zero is the way that they usually do it. But there's
- 1:15:15only five of those out there. Uh No, it's got to be more
- 1:15:19right because like, look at the odds on it. It's higher or it's
- 1:15:27lower than the black. So I don't know how many frozen fractors are out
- 1:15:30there. That's a good question. I'll try. I'll try to look that
- 1:15:31up, because you're you're right, you're looking at it, and I thought
- 1:15:34there was only five of the frozen frozen. You know what I think it
- 1:15:38is is because like I'm just gonna they're only in jumbo, That's what it
- 1:15:42is. Yep. So like, because the black refractors are one in five
- 1:15:45hundred and sixty four jumbos, frozen fractors are one in five hundred and six
- 1:15:50jumbos, So they're actually the frozen fractors are more common in the jumbos than
- 1:15:57the black of five. But because they're only in the jumbo, that's why
- 1:16:00there's only five of them. Okay, still not done. We have red
- 1:16:03refractors of five, red wave refractors of five ray wave red refractors of five
- 1:16:10printing plates. You've got your black, Cayenne, magenta, yellow, pre
- 1:16:15traditional, one of ones on that, and then you're one of one super
- 1:16:17fractors. That's absurd. I think, like if there's anything that maybe sums
- 1:16:24up a lot of like kind of what we've been talking about in terms of
- 1:16:27how much of this product there is, and like it's going to be impossible
- 1:16:31to put together any sort of rainbow, I think pretty much in terms of
- 1:16:36given how hard it's going to be to uncover some of these like really low
- 1:16:43numbered cards of especially just not big stars. But whenever you've got quads up
- 1:16:49on like the same color refractor, they just like, if anything, it's
- 1:16:55a little bit frustrating in terms of a collector standpoint, because like what was
- 1:17:00driving any sort of value I think out of the modern cards was having the
- 1:17:04refractors that are numbered and limited. But if you've got four different purple refractor
- 1:17:11variations, it makes all of them degraded overall, because like you just have
- 1:17:16so many different colors and so many different variations of the same color that you
- 1:17:23know, it's just not quite as special as just having that solo only purple
- 1:17:29they used to have, you know, you know, I think the way
- 1:17:31to go this year, if you're really gonna go bold, I think a
- 1:17:33full negative set. I think that that's where that's where it's at this year,
- 1:17:39because that's gonna be rare. But people don't know it, and uh,
- 1:17:43it's gonna be it's gonna be actually probably easier, so I could go
- 1:17:45after like a full set of purple refractors. Then there's something like that.
- 1:17:49So you're absolutely right, there's there's a lot there. I'd love to have
- 1:17:56a frozen fractor. It just sounds fun. Yeah, I've never seen one
- 1:17:59in the wild too. I think it would be really cool to see because
- 1:18:01especially just like the the Mister Freeze like vibe to them overall that they look
- 1:18:09really cool. I think the other kind of strange takeaway here is that they
- 1:18:15did not really I wonder if there was missing magenta refractors in this list because
- 1:18:19traditionally in that you're in the magenta color, they have more than one variation
- 1:18:25and they and so it's possible that this list from Beckett might be missing some.
- 1:18:29But yeah, of all of them, you would think that they would
- 1:18:32really want to hammer home on some of those more voluminous refractors to be able
- 1:18:40to just get more and more variations of they're out there. Yeah, it's
- 1:18:45there is just a lot of a lot of options. They all look great.
- 1:18:49I also say that, you know, the multi control aside, the
- 1:18:53cars look great, you know, this is for me, This is one
- 1:18:57of my favorite times of the year to go to car shows. After all,
- 1:19:00these are ripped on you know, uh, you know, first the
- 1:19:04first day of release and you've just got boxes and boxes of chrome cars.
- 1:19:10Guys are trying to trying to pawn off because they ripped you know, seven
- 1:19:14jumbos and so that's that's the good news about these cars is they do look
- 1:19:18great. H So you know, get a chance to get some some in
- 1:19:21your in your collection and enjoy enjoy how they look. Uh, just don't
- 1:19:27be expecting to complete any rainbows anytime soon. Yeah, I don't think so.
- 1:19:30And then I think the one other thing I wanted to call out was
- 1:19:33the Radiating Rookies checklist because I think these are going to be pretty popular.
- 1:19:38That they had versions of this previously, but especially when you're talking about like
- 1:19:44this also shows maybe like where people will maybe find some value in this checklist
- 1:19:49overall is that like it is a very very strong rookie class. And so
- 1:19:54all these guys have based cards in terms of like Elie de la Cruz,
- 1:19:58Coult, Keith Pca, Jackson Churio, Mason Wynn, Jason Dominguez, Wyatt
- 1:20:03Langford Junior, Camen Nio, Jordan Lawler, Evan Carter, Yoshinobu Yamamoto,
- 1:20:09Jung Hu, Lee Jackson, Holliday, Jackson, Merrill, that they all
- 1:20:14have these radiating rookies where it just it sounds like what it says, where
- 1:20:19it looks like there's a sunburst coming off of them, and they've got a
- 1:20:23color variation to them. These are very short printed and would technically again be
- 1:20:29like what would be a case it because they're one on every seven hundred and
- 1:20:31forty seven Hobby packs, and so I think they're going to be pretty popular
- 1:20:36in terms of I think I've seen the holiday one. It's it is really
- 1:20:41beautiful and it works really well with the twenty four design overall. I just
- 1:20:45kind of wanted to mention that of all the other inserts that maybe wether we
- 1:20:48skipped over, because I think a lot of them will kind of be lost
- 1:20:53in the wash of all the inserts out there. If you find one of
- 1:20:57these radiating rookies, certainly jump on it because they aren't numbered, but they're
- 1:21:00very very short printed. Yeah. Absolutely, I think I was looking up
- 1:21:04three. There's just slightly more than the negatives. I believe there's room in
- 1:21:09seventy of each of these cards and so that you're absolutely right. They're going
- 1:21:13to be hard to find. They're gonna be a little bit pricey, but
- 1:21:15they are very very very nice cards. Radi and Rookies has done well since
- 1:21:19they brought that out last year. Okay, well, yeah, I think
- 1:21:24that's gonna wrap us up on Tops Chrome. I think there's probably gonna be
- 1:21:27more news as it gets ripped throughout the next few weeks. And it's been
- 1:21:32a couple of releases since we've had a Super Factor controversy. So let's see,
- 1:21:38maybe we might get one out of the Tops Chrome set here in twenty
- 1:21:41twenty four. We know something's common, like it just isn't a release of
- 1:21:45a big product without some type of controversy. We'll see what it is,
- 1:21:48but we'll hit that next week. We just need to give a little time
- 1:21:51to marinate exactly. All right, Well, let's wrap it up here.
- 1:21:55Brew Let everybody know where they can find you on socials and read your work.
