- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The feast of Saint Zephyrinus, pope and martyr, August 26 in the year of our Lord 2026.
- 0:21Of today's mass, Dom Gaspar Lefevre writes the following, Saint Zephyrinus succeeded Saint Victor on the pontifical throne and like him was martyred. He abolished in the celebration of the holy sacrifice the use of wooden chalices which were replaced by glass ones. He prescribed that all the faithful should receive Holy Communion on Easter day.
- 0:51He had to defend the dogma of the unity of God in the Trinity of Persons against the Sabellians. Besides this intestine strife he had to suffer persecution. God always supported him in his trials in order to enable him to support the flock of Christ. He died in the year of our Lord 217 after a pontificate of seventeen years. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
- 1:34Amen. The introit. O ye priests of the Lord, bless the Lord. O ye holy and humble of heart, praise God. Blessed are they who pass through life's journey unstained, following the law of the Lord.
- 1:55Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be, through all ages of ages. Amen. O ye priests of the Lord, bless the Lord. O ye holy and humble of heart, praise God. The Collect, Let us pray.
- 2:24O Almighty God, to us who rejoice over the merits of blessed Zephyrinus, Thy Martyr and Bishop, grant we beseech Thee to profit by the example He has left us through our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. A lesson from the second letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Corinthians. Brethren, blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the merciful Father, the God who gives all encouragement. He it is who comforts us in all our trials And it is this encouragement we ourselves receive from God which enables us to comfort others whenever they have trials of their own.
- 3:28The sufferings of Christ, it is true, overflow into our lives but there is overflowing comfort too which brings us to Christ. Have we trials to endure? It all makes for your encouragement, for your salvation. Are we comforted? It is so that you may be comforted.
- 3:53Are we encouraged? It is for your encouragement, for your salvation. And the effect of this appears in your willingness to undergo the sufferings we too undergo making our hopes of you all the more confident. Partners of our sufferings you will be partners of our encouragement too in Christ Jesus our Lord. The gradual.
- 4:26Thou hast crowned him with glory and honor bidding him rule over the works of thy hands. Alleluia. Alleluia. This is the priest crowned by the Lord. Alleluia.
- 4:46A continuation of the Holy Gospel according to Luke. At that time Jesus said to his disciples, if any man has a mind to come my way, let him renounce self and take up his cross and follow me. The man who tries to save his life shall lose it. It is the man who loses his life for my sake that will secure it. How is a man the better for it if he gains the whole world at the cost of losing his own soul.
- 5:24For a man's soul, what price can be high enough? The Son of Man will come hereafter in his father's glory with his angels about him and he will recompense everyone then according to his works. The offertory. The man I have found is my servant David. On him my consecrating oil has been poured.
- 5:54My hands shall strengthen him. My arms shall give him courage. The secret. Hollow the gifts we have dedicated to thee, Lord, and at the intercession of thy blessed Martyr, Bishop Zephyrinus, let them move thee to hear us and have mercy through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 6:34The Common Preface Just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, O Holy Lord, Father Almighty, everlasting God, through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, The power stand in awe. The heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, The heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest.
- 7:33Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Lord, thou hast set a jeweled crown upon his head. The post communion.
- 7:56Let us pray. O Lord, may this communion cleanse us from guilt and at the intercession of thy blessed Martyr, Bishop Zephyrinus, bring us a share of healing from on high through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, through all ages of ages. Amen. In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
