- 1:00Hey, y'all, welcome today's show. Probably gonna try to keep this one
- 1:03kind of brief today, no more than about a half hour, because we
- 1:07have major storms coming in and we're under a tornado warning and all that.
- 1:12So if you could spare a few prayers for everyone who's being affected by this
- 1:18system of storms already took a few lives last night, would be much appreciated.
- 1:26And there's a lot of news going on today that I'm not going to
- 1:29be able to get into just yet, but maybe that's really for the best.
- 1:33I'm keeping a real close high on this situation. When Bishop Strickland,
- 1:37I cannot remember the name of his diocese right now, but anyway, Bishop
- 1:38Strickland, who was really the only one to really come out strongly and lead
- 1:46the march, the Eucharistic procession in protest of the absolute abomination that happened at
- 1:55Dodger Stadium. The Archdiocese of San Francis go, what do you expect?
- 2:01Yeah, what do you expect? In California, the most wealthy, most
- 2:04corrupt Catholic establishment in the United States. They want to dialogue with the perverts,
- 2:15with the demonic perverts who mocked the Crucifixion and the Catholic Church and dialogue
- 2:23away, dialogue away. But we need, well, we need faithful Catholics
- 2:27to stand on principled positions, to actually stand up for the morals and doctrine
- 2:34of the Catholic Church. And you've got a few. You've got get to
- 2:36you know, Corleone, You've got Strickland, Oh what's his name there in
- 2:40Kansas City. He's fantastic. I mean, they're just a few, but
- 2:44I mean, gosh, I mean, we've seen the Father Provone defraud recently,
- 2:50We've see in messages against traditional Catholics. And I don't even just mean
- 2:57traditional Latin Catholics. I mean, for some reason, Pope Francis hates the
- 3:00Latin Mass. I don't get it. And he doesn't seem too much like
- 3:05conservative Catholics. I promise you it is not going to turn into a Pope
- 3:08Francis bashing show. Not my intent. But there's some really troubling stuff going
- 3:16on. And actually I just wrote an article. You'll find it on missy
- 3:21O Day on Thursday. It's the Gospel Reflection for Thursday the twenty eight.
- 3:27And I think it's going to be pretty clear my position and hopefully it will
- 3:32give you a few things to reflect on and some reasons to hope. It's
- 3:38a tough statement, it's a it's a tough article, but it's not certainly
- 3:45no malice in it, and really no vocal criticism of anyone. It's just
- 3:49an assessment of where things are, and you know, I hope you'll enjoy
- 3:54it. I hope you'll take something worthwhile from it. So today, as
- 4:00the storm's approach, let's get back into Maybe I can finish up on what
- 4:03the early Church taught about praying to saints and angels. Of course, the
- 4:11only church venerated and prayed to Saint Saint angels constantly. The very first Christians
- 4:15venerated images of the blessed Virgin Mary. That it's evidenced by the painting in
- 4:20the Church of Santa Maria. Okay, here we know, go I don't
- 4:24pronounce Italian very well, m agg I O r E. Yes, I
- 4:30know all Catholics are supposed to have traveled to Rome and be fluent in speaking
- 4:34all the names of odd places like Mega Gorge and such as that. Yeah,
- 4:40I'm not Okay, I'm a convert, so I guess this is m
- 4:45maggiori maggy. Okay, I know I'm mispronouncing it. I'm just gonna spell
- 4:50it m a gg io r e. This painting is actually believed to have
- 4:56been painted by Saint Luke, the Apostle, the Hostile of Christ, an
- 5:00author of the Gospel of Luke. So that you want to talk some you
- 5:06know, anti Catholic says the early Church didn't worship. Well, they say
- 5:11worship, and that's totally wrong. They say Catholics worships angels and saints.
- 5:15The early Church didn't do that. Well, here is Saint Luke painting the
- 5:20Blessed Virgin Mary on the wall of a church and to be venerated by all
- 5:27Christians. We'll get into the charge of Catholics worship statues and paintings later,
- 5:32but that's completely ludicrous on its face. But it's worth noting without a doubt
- 5:41that one of the actual apostles was one of the founders of our tradition,
- 5:46and it likely goes back even further than that, even further, but I'll
- 5:51get into that in Well, yeah, we'll talk about Saint Joseph here in
- 5:56just a minute, but let me just just you know, besides Saint Luke,
- 6:01one of the authors of the Bible the New Testament, is believed to
- 6:05have painted one of the oldest paintings of the Blessed Virgin Mary that has been
- 6:10venerated by Catholics for two thousand years. The earliest churches the catacombs, are
- 6:18filled with religious icons, statues, and paintings to cover the walls and ceilings.
- 6:24While all acknowledge that the Blessed Virgin Mary holds a special rule in Catholicism,
- 6:29most Protestants would probably be surprised to learn that the earliest known prayer to
- 6:32a saint was probably to her earthly husband, and this tradition praying this prayer
- 6:41to Saint Joseph was very likely fostered by Our Lord himself. Saint Joseph died
- 6:47during the earthly life of Jesus, the Blessed Mother lived several decades after his
- 6:54resurrection. Therefore, it's not really surprising that Our Lord may have told his
- 6:59disciples very much about Saint Joseph, his earthly father, and therefore it's well
- 7:08and archaeological evidence for the following prayer is to believe to date to around fifty
- 7:13a d. Most of the apostles were still alive. They were praying a
- 7:19prayer to Saint Joseph, very likely taught to them by Jesus Christ himself.
- 7:25Of course, this is only speculation, but if the earliest known record of
- 7:29this prayer is fifty a d that should really dispel any argument by Protestants or
- 7:36anti Catholics that prayers to angels and saints are not Christian, because those were
- 7:44the ones who actually learned from Jesus. Trust me, they know a lot
- 7:47better what is Christian isn't than what you do two thousand years later, not
- 7:53even speaking the same language, with the faulty translations of the Bible, listening
- 7:58to some preacher who has no thought already whatsoever. The prayer goes, Old
- 8:03Saint Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before
- 8:07the Throne of God. I place in thee all my interests and desires,
- 8:11Old Saint Joseph, to assist me by that powerful intercession and obtain for me
- 8:16from Thy divine son all spiritual blessings for Jesus Christ, our Lord, so
- 8:20that, having engaged here below Thy heavenly power, I may offer thanksgiving an
- 8:26homage to the most loving of fathers, Old Saint Joseph, I never weary
- 8:30of contemplating thee and Jesus asleep in thy arms. I dare not approach while
- 8:35he reposes near thy heart. Press him in my name and kiss his fine
- 8:39head for me, and ask him to return the kiss when I draw my
- 8:43dying breath. Saint Joseph, Patron of departing Souls, pray for us.
- 8:48It's a very powerful prayer. That prayer in fifteen oh five was sent from
- 8:54the Pope to Emperor Charles when he was going into battle. Because the Church
- 9:00states of this prayer, whoever reads this prayer or hears it or carries it
- 9:05will never die a sudden death, nor be drowned, nor shall poison take
- 9:09effect on them. Neither shall they fall into the hands of the enemy,
- 9:13nor be burned by it in any fire, nor shall they be overpowered in
- 9:16battle. That has been a belief of the Catholic Church going back to the
- 9:22earliest Christians, and is also so interesting to think about this prayer because it's
- 9:26addressing Saint Joseph with the infant Jesus. We have to remember God is outside
- 9:33of time, Heaven is outside of time. When people die and go to
- 9:39heaven, they become outside of time, unbound by time and space, where
- 9:43one second is the same as a million years. And so Jesus often appears
- 9:50at various stages of his life. He may be the infant Jesus. In
- 9:54this he is presented as the infant in Saint Joseph's lap and it's it's it's
- 10:01if you really want to think about that and unpack it, there's a lot
- 10:07there. I mean, there's there's a lot there. The earliest Marriyan prayer
- 10:13or prayer of the Blessed Virgin Mary for which we have evidence was written in
- 10:16Greek, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Okay, again, I cannot pronounce Greek.
- 10:24Maybe someday I'll get around to it, but for right now, you
- 10:26just have to understand that the Greek word I think it's the autocus, but
- 10:35anyway, it's spelled in the weird Greek alphabet that I can't Okay, anyway,
- 10:39it means bearer of God. Okay, she was called the bearer of
- 10:43God. The prayer was found on a fragment of papyrus that dates all the
- 10:48way back to two fifty a d. That's two centuries before the third Ecumenical
- 10:54counsel, the Council of Ephesus, in which the Virgin Mary was proclaimed Mother
- 10:58of God. So for at least two hundred years before the Church officially declared
- 11:05the Blessed Virgin Mary the Mother of God, she was known and prayed to
- 11:09as the Bearer of God or the Mother of God. This is two hundred
- 11:13and fifty a d Put that in context and realize no Protestant church would exist
- 11:22for another or what twelve hundred over a thousand years later? So by what
- 11:28authority does any Protestant criticize Catholics for continuing the same tradition that was passed down
- 11:35to us by the apostles, of praying to angels and saints. They don't
- 11:41have that right. The prayer goes beneath thy compassion. We take refuge,
- 11:50Oh Mother of God, do not despise our petitions in time of trouble,
- 11:54but rescue us from dangers. Only pure one, only bless one. The
- 12:00Blessed Virgin Mary was called the Mother of God by the earliest Christians fathers.
- 12:05Farrago tells us that Saint Elizabeth called her the Mother of God, and Luke
- 12:09one forty three. Of course, hopefully we all know that verse. Nestorius's
- 12:16heresy that Mary should be called only the mother of Christ was condemned in the
- 12:22Council of Ephesism four thirty one. If, as Saint Cyril says, Our
- 12:26Lord Jesus Christ is God, how can it be that the holy Virgin who
- 12:31bore him is not Mother of God. Though the mother does not give the
- 12:35soul to the offspring, she is nonetheless called the mother. So Mary is
- 12:39called him the Mother of God, though she did not give Christ's divine nature.
- 12:45And in the Seventh General Council the Second of Nicia in seven eighty seven,
- 12:50the veneration of images was declared to be lawful. There wasn't really a
- 12:56time when the Catholic Church did not promote the veneration of images, but certain
- 13:03heresies arise, and they had to come to conclusions and say, this is
- 13:07the official teachings of the Catholic Church. Prayer. The Mother of God is
- 13:13also very efficacious, for she is full of grace, the dispenser of all
- 13:16God's gifts. Let no one, says Saint Alphonsus, consider this last title
- 13:22extravagant, For the greatest saints have so spoken of her, and the saints
- 13:26as we know, are inspired by the Holy Ghost, the spirit of truth.
- 13:31Without the Blessed Virgin Mary, there isn't of Jesus. Jesus came to
- 13:35the world through her. She is in a very special position. And it
- 13:41does not take anything away from Jesus to pray to the Blessed Virgin Mary and
- 13:46to respect her or venerate as that word means. You know, that's why
- 13:50we call someone venerable. They're respectable. There is no competition between the two.
- 13:58Every son appreciates when someone praises his mother, and every mother appreciates when
- 14:03someone praises her son. If you think you're not offending God by denigrating Catholic
- 14:13belief toward the Blessed Virgin Mary, and I've heard some very spiteful comments from
- 14:20anti Catholic Protestants about the Mother of God. Why would you do that?
- 14:28Why would you ever insult Jesus's mother, Why would you insult as earthly as
- 14:33foster Father? Why would you insult one of his cousins. You're supposed to
- 14:39build up the body of Christ, not tear it apart. And you know,
- 14:43if you want to see probably how Jesus reacts, go insult somebody else's
- 14:48mother, and see how mad they get. He's not gonna be happy.
- 14:52I'm just telling you, he's not gonna be happy. You know. I
- 14:58love his father. Sprague's book. At some point I'll really get into his
- 15:01exhaustive explanation of the Catechism, but honestly, I can put him more succinctly.
- 15:07The Ten Commandments orders us to love and respect our mother, our Lord
- 15:09and Savior, Jesus Christ. Mother is the blessed Virgin Mary. We're brothers
- 15:15and sisters in Christ. Therefore, his mother is our mother. We have
- 15:18both an earthly mother who gave us birth and a heavenly mother, who is
- 15:22our spiritual mother, who gave birth to our life through Jesus Christ, just
- 15:28as we have a spiritual brother who is our Lord, and a spiritual father,
- 15:31the eternal and Living God. Indeed, among Jesus's last words for the
- 15:37cross were John nineteen twenty six through thirty. Seeing his mother and the disciple,
- 15:41whom he loves, staying near her, Jesus said to his mother,
- 15:45woman, this is your son. Than to the disciples he said, this
- 15:46is your mother. To the disciple, he said to John. And from
- 15:52that hour the disciple took her into his home. After this, Jesus knew
- 15:54that that everything had now been completed, so that the scripture should be fulfilled.
- 16:00He said, I am thirsty. A jar full of sour wine stood
- 16:03there, so he put so, putting a sponge soaked in wine on a
- 16:07hissipstick, they held it up to his mouth. After Jesus had taken the
- 16:11wine, he said, it is fulfilled, and bowing his head, he
- 16:14gave up his spirit, his last concern, the one thing he had to
- 16:19accomplish before he died. The primary thing on his mind at that moment was
- 16:26the care of his mother. And you don't think Jesus loves his mother.
- 16:30You think you would please him by insulting his mother. No, no,
- 16:33you don't when you desecrate a statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as often
- 16:37happens when you criticize Catholics for worshiping Mary and not Jesus, which is absolutely
- 16:42wrong and frankly just stupid. I mean it's ignorant. Okay, it's just
- 16:48ignorant, But then there's so many will actually insult the mother of God.
- 16:55Trust me, you're not pleasing Jesus. And note that our Lord did not
- 17:00addressed Saint John as John. He did call Saint Peter or Peter, you
- 17:04know when a signing a specific authority. He said to John man, this
- 17:08is very important. Protestant saus often believe it's some kind of insult when Jesus
- 17:12referred to his mother as a woman during the wedding Fiesa Cana. However,
- 17:18in that era, addressing someone as woman or man as opposed to their familiar
- 17:22name is actually a sign of respect. Notice how in the Bible the term
- 17:25man is so often used when serious matters are at hand. Jesus called himself
- 17:30the son of man. I mean it was a role and a title of
- 17:34respect. No one thinks when he refers to a man as man, or
- 17:41when God speaks to one of the prophets as man and he says, listen
- 17:45to me, they don't take that as an insult. But when Jesus called
- 17:49his mother woman, Protestants somehow think that was an insult a little bit of
- 17:53a misogyny going there on there in the Protestant Church. Maybe Obviously, in
- 18:02the dying words of the God who is the very embodiment of love, he
- 18:07would not be insulting those whom he loved, but more than that. Both
- 18:12our first parent, Eve and our blessed Mother are called woman in the Bible.
- 18:18This is further evidence of their universal role as mother to humanity. Through
- 18:25Adam and Eve, all our flesh is given birth through the Mother of God,
- 18:30the blessed Virgin Mary we give our soul is given life through her son,
- 18:37and the Mary becomes the new woman referred to in the Book of Revelation.
- 18:44As I discussed last week, who would defeat Satan through her son?
- 18:51You go to Jesus through Mary. There is no man Jesus Christ without the
- 18:59mother Mary. Jesus could have come without a body. He could have come
- 19:03in any other way. He chose that way, and to denigrate it and
- 19:07to question it is remarkably insulting to the order and the way God did things.
- 19:18I mean, it's saying you know better than God. And that's the
- 19:21worst to the original sin. That's the sin of the devil, not the
- 19:26tree, even the trickery he of giving the fruit of the tree of knowledge.
- 19:33But that is the heart of the original sin, is saying you know
- 19:37better than God. And not only that, but saying you know better than
- 19:41God's church, the church that stood for well over a thousand, was fifteen
- 19:47hundred years before Martin Luther came up with his fantasies. If you think you're
- 19:53smarter than everyone who lived in the first fifteen hundred or so years of the
- 20:00Church, trust me, you've never read Saint Augustine. You've never read Saint
- 20:04Thomas Aquinas, You've never read Saint Benedict of Nursia. You've never read the
- 20:11greatest thinkers, scholars, researchers, theologians who have ever walked the face of
- 20:22the earth. All you have to do is read the early Church fallows to
- 20:27find out how little you actually know, and to putting that in perspective.
- 20:33You know, Saint Augustin said, once he realized how little he knew,
- 20:37and he was probably the most brilliant man ever lived. It was nothing compared
- 20:44to the mind of God. But you're not even going to get that much
- 20:48if you don't read the doctors of the Catholic Church and the saints and the
- 20:52visionaries. No. No, not only are schools turning out essentially illiterate people,
- 21:00but there is nothing in a Protestant Church that is even a billionth of
- 21:04a fraction of the knowledge and wisdom that you will find in the writings of
- 21:10Saint Augustine and a Quietas and etc. Don't take my word for it.
- 21:17I'm sure that offends you if you heard it, but go read it.
- 21:22You're going to have to train, You're going to have to do some mental
- 21:26exercises to get up to the You're going to be lost because you don't have
- 21:32the well, you don't have the fullness of the Holy Spirit through confirmation in
- 21:37the Eucharis that one receives in the Catholic Church. But even then you would
- 21:41have to be a genius to fully understand everything they're saying and have an actual
- 21:47knowledge of history, which most Protestants do not have. The early Church was
- 21:52very devoted to both the Apostles and the Mother of God. St Ignatius wrote
- 21:57the following letter, and it truly pains me that these fascinating relics of the
- 22:00early Church are unknown by most Protestants, by all Protestants essentially, and even
- 22:06most Catholics. Saint Ignatious actually wrote letters to John, Saint John the Apostle
- 22:12and to the Blessed Virgin Maryan. They replied, and we actually have these
- 22:17letters. This correspondence Ignatious and the brethren who are with him. To John
- 22:22the Holy Presbyter, we are deeply grieved in the delay, and strengthening us
- 22:26by thy address and constellations. If thy absence be prolonged, it will disappoint
- 22:32many of us hastened then to come to us, where we believe that it
- 22:34is expedient. There are also many of our women here who are desirous to
- 22:38see Mary, the Mother of Jesus, and wish day by day to run
- 22:42off from us to you, that they may meet with her and touch those
- 22:45breasts of her which nourishes the Lord Jesus, and may inquire of her respecting
- 22:52some rather secret matters. These were living saints, and they were abso venerated
- 23:00on earth long before they died. Let's see several well known persons relate that
- 23:11she is full of all graces and all virtues after the matter of the Virgin,
- 23:15fruitful and virtue and grace. As the report, she is cheerful in
- 23:19persecutions and afflictions, free from murmuring in the midst of penury, and want
- 23:26grateful to those that injure her, and rejoices when exposed to trouble. She
- 23:32sympathizes with the wretched and the afflicted, as sharing in their afflictions, and
- 23:37is not slow to come to their assistance. Moreover, she shines forth gloriously
- 23:41as contending in the fight of faith against the pernicious conflicts of vicious principles or
- 23:48conduct. She is the lady of our new religion and repentance, and the
- 23:52handmaid among the faithful of all works of piety. She is indeed devoted to
- 23:57the humble, and she humbles herself or devotedly than the devoted, and is
- 24:02wonderfully magnified by all. Why at the same time she suffers detractions from the
- 24:07scribes and Pharisees. Besides these points, many relate to numerous other things regarding
- 24:11her. We do not, however, go so far as to believe all
- 24:15in every particular, nor do we mention such to thee But as we are
- 24:18informed by those who are worthy of credit, that there is and marry the
- 24:22mother of Jesus and angelic purity of nature allied with the nature of humanity.
- 24:29And such reports of these have greatly excited our emotions and urge us eagerly to
- 24:33desire a sight of this, if it be lawful, so to speak,
- 24:38heavenly prodigy and sacred marvel. But do thou in haste comply with our desire,
- 24:44and fellow fair thee will amen. You don't see the early Church venerated
- 24:48the blessed Virgin Mary. Yeah, here's Saint Jerome, Saint Natius. Sorry,
- 24:55here's Saint Ignatious writing to the apostle John, who wrote the Gospel of
- 25:00John about the miraculous aspects of the blessed Virgin Mary, who was still alive
- 25:07on earth. He also wrote, if thou will give me leave, I
- 25:14desire to go to Jerusalem and see the faithful saints who are there, especially
- 25:17Mary the Mother, whom they report to be an object of admiration and affection
- 25:21to all. For who would not rejoice to behold and address her who bore
- 25:25the True God from our own womb, provided he is a friend of our
- 25:29faith and religion. And in like matter I desire will see the venerable James,
- 25:33the apostle James was still alive, who is surnamed the Just, whom
- 25:38they relate to be very like Jesus Christ and appearance. Remember he was a
- 25:42cousin of Jesus in life, and a method of conduct as if he were
- 25:47a twin brother of the same wound. They say that if I see him,
- 25:49I see also of Jesus himself, as to all the features and aspects
- 25:53of his body. Moreover, I desire to see the other saints, both
- 25:57male and female. Asked why do I delay? Why am I kept back?
- 26:02Kind teacher, bid me hasten to fulfill my wish and fare thou well.
- 26:06Amen. They did not hesitate to call the Apostles and the Blessed Virgin
- 26:12Mary saints and to give them every form of veneration allowable under the laws of
- 26:21heaven. They had a strong love for them, a devotion for them.
- 26:26They were inspired by them, and we continue to be inspired and to love
- 26:33them in Heaven as they do us. It's the living body of God.
- 26:38God is not the God of the dead, but of the living. And
- 26:44the holier a person is, the more they radiate with the grace and holiness
- 26:49of God. God lives through them. You've seen, You've probably seen before
- 26:55someone who just radiated the love of God. I think of Father Hagen,
- 27:00who works with the poorest of the poor in Haiti. You look at his
- 27:08face and you see Jesus to an expert from his actual letter to the blessed
- 27:18Virgin Mary, thou oughtest to have comforted and consoled me, who am a
- 27:23neophyte and a disciple of thy beloved John. For I've heard things wonderful to
- 27:27tell respecting thy son Jesus, and I am astonished by such a report.
- 27:33But I desire with my whole heart to obtain information concerning the things which I
- 27:37have heard from THEE, who was always intimate and allied with him, and
- 27:41who was acquainted with all his secrets. I have also written to THEE at
- 27:45another time and asked me concerning the same things. Fair thou well, and
- 27:49let the neophytes who are with me be comforted of THEE and by THEE,
- 27:53and in THEE. Amen. The Blessed Virgin Marry knew things about Jesus that
- 28:00others didn't know. They had her as a living testament, and she could
- 28:03tell them, and she did. She's very important in forming the early Church.
- 28:10And no, that's not included in the Bible, because what does the
- 28:11Bible say. These things were written down, so you may believe Jesus didn't
- 28:15said many other things, and all that would feel more books than could feel
- 28:18the whole world. They had the living testimony of his every moment from the
- 28:25day he was born, from the day he was conceived to the day he
- 28:30died. That is something you will only find in the Catholic Church. It's
- 28:36called sacred tradition. And what does the Bible say? Hold fast to the
- 28:41Church, which is the pillar and foundation of the truth. Not everything in
- 28:48the Bible is all you need to know. Nowhere in the Bible to say
- 28:49the Bible's soul authority or complete. Let's see returning to Father's farago. The
- 28:56Holy Spirit works in all its members. That's first Corinthians. The soul,
- 29:00says Saint Augustine, animates all the organs of the body and causes the eye
- 29:04to see and the ear to hear. Just so does the Holy Spirit work
- 29:08in all the members of Christ's body. As the Holy Spirit proceeds from Christ.
- 29:14Christ is the head of the Christian body, is the vine carrying strength
- 29:17and nourishment to the branches. That's a quote from John or a reference.
- 29:21I should say. Each member the body has its own special functions, so
- 29:23each member of the church has its own gifts. Each member the body works
- 29:26for the whole body, so every member of the church works for the common
- 29:30good. All members of the body share the pain or pleasure felt by one,
- 29:34and the same is true of the mutual sympathy of the Communion of Saints.
- 29:38If one member suffers anything, all members suffer with it. If one
- 29:41member of glory, all the members rejoice with it. Thus the saints in
- 29:45heaven are not different, are not indifferent to our condition. Catholics who have
- 29:51fallen into mortal sins are still members of this great body, though dead members,
- 29:55but they cease to be members if they are excommunicated. You can only
- 29:59particu dissipate in the Communion of Saints through communion with the Catholic Church, and
- 30:06if you don't, you are missing out on so much. He goes on
- 30:11and says, we can also help the holy souls in purgatory by prayers and
- 30:14other good works. They in turn can help us by their prayers, especially
- 30:18when they reach heaven. The Jews believe that help could be given to the
- 30:22souls that departed, for we read in Second Maccabees how Judas Maccabeus caused sacrifices
- 30:26to be offered for those who had fallen in battle, and sent money to
- 30:30the temple for that purpose. The passing bell and the nail or signs to
- 30:33pray for the dying and the dead. In the memento. After the consecration
- 30:37at Mass, a special petition is made for the departed. Prayer, says
- 30:41Saint Augustine, is the key by which we open the gates of Heaven to
- 30:45the suffering souls. The prayers of the living, especially at Holy Mass,
- 30:48alms deeds, and other works of piety, are of great efficacy in lessening
- 30:53the suffering of holy souls. The souls in purgatory can also help us.
- 31:00Many saints held that we can call on the holy souls to help. The
- 31:03saints in heaven can help us by their prayers before the Throne of God.
- 31:06And there's a reference there to the Book of Revelation. It was at chapter
- 31:11eight, I think, verse four. Especially if we call upon them for
- 31:15help, the saints must know much of what happens on earth, for their
- 31:18happiness consists in the complete satisfaction of all their desires. The devil knows all
- 31:23our weaknesses, as we as we know from the way he which in tips
- 31:27in which he tempts us. The profits of the Old Testament sometimes foretold future
- 31:33events and knew the most hidden things. Is it likely that the saints are
- 31:37less favored than they? They rejoice when a centner is converted. What can
- 31:41escape those? Says Saint Thomas Aquinas, who see Him who sees all things.
- 31:47And the Church teaches us that we call upon saints for their prayers,
- 31:49they join their prayers to ours the intercession. Their intercession has great efficacy continual
- 31:56prayer of a just man on earth of veileth What power Abraham had when pleading
- 32:01for Sodom? If, says Saint Jerome, the saints had such power in
- 32:06the flesh, what can they not obtain for us now that they have secured
- 32:08their victory. Saint John Christostom compares the intercession of the pleading to the pleading
- 32:15of old soldiers who display their wounds. Their power has often been demonstrated by
- 32:20miracles. Our dead relatives and friends who are in heaven are always pleading for
- 32:23us at the throne of God, and often save us from danger. According
- 32:29to First Corinthians, charity never dies, and the ties which bind us to
- 32:32those we love remains unbroken by death. Even in hell. The wretched Debas
- 32:37showed he had some affection for his relatives on earth. The prophet Jeremias and
- 32:43the Holy High Priest Onias prayed in Limbo for the Jewish nation, and the
- 32:47Christ promised his apostles that he would pray for them. John was at fourteen
- 32:53sixteen first John two one Saint Augustine, after the death of his mother's Saint
- 32:59Monica and Saint winces Lass. At the death of his grandmothers Saint Ludmilia,
- 33:04rapidly advanced to greater heights of sanctity. So to the Saints help souls in
- 33:08purgatory. Our Lady alone rescues daily some souls from purgatory by her prayers.
- 33:14On the anniversary of the assumption of Our Lady, thousands of souls are delivered
- 33:17from their prison. According to Saint Peter Damien and Saint Alphonsis visionaries, they
- 33:23saw heaven. On Saturdays, the day specially dedicated to Our Lady, she
- 33:29rescues many poor souls from purgatory. Nor are the Holy Angels indifferent to their
- 33:36future companions. One of the church's prayers speaks of Saint Michael leading souls into
- 33:40Heaven. Our Angel Guardian and the angels whom we have specially honor on earth
- 33:46would take up our cause in purgatory. But some would argue, even if
- 33:51the saints can hear our prayers, the Bible prohibits communicating with the dead.
- 33:55That's considered necromancy and as a sin. I was actually charged by this with
- 33:59a Southern Baptist a couple of days ago. However, you have to remember
- 34:04the saints are not dead. They are more alive than we are. When
- 34:07Jesus was transfigured on Mount Tabor, he spoke with Moses and Elijah. He
- 34:13spoke with two saints. Moses and Elijah have been dead to this life for
- 34:15a very long time, but they were very much alive in eternity. Jesus
- 34:21is God, and God cannot sin. Jesus instructs us to imitate him,
- 34:25which means we should be talking with saints as well. If it was a
- 34:30sin to talk with saints, Jesus sin. If Jesus committed a sin,
- 34:36he's not God. You cannot be a Christian and believe that Jesus sinned.
- 34:42So just how powerful are these supposedly dead saints who are truly alive? Consider
- 34:47Kings thirteen twenty one. This was the verse I was trying to remember the
- 34:51other day when a dead man was placed into the grave of the prophet Alicia.
- 34:57Upon touching the bones of this saint, the man rose from the dead.
- 35:00The Bible is indeed an authority that God has great, a great that
- 35:05God has granted great power to his saints and through their relics. If you
- 35:10believe in the Bible, you have to believe what was just said about Alicia.
- 35:15You can't say Catholics or worshiping idols when we venerate the relics of a
- 35:21saint, such as the bones of Alicia. Great Bishops Strickland, just a
- 35:27couple of weeks ago, when he did the march against the abominations going on
- 35:31at Dodger Sadum Stadium, carried a piece of bone from Saint Pope Saint John
- 35:37paul a Second and heard Jack Pisovic talking about it this morning. He's been
- 35:45to thousands of events where Antifa and other violent leftist protesters will attack people.
- 35:52This was the first time he has ever been in a protest against a leftist
- 35:57cause, especially transgendered mess and all that where everyone was perfectly safe. Fathers
- 36:02Strickland carried that relic of Pope Saint John Paul's Second and prayed for safety over
- 36:07everyone who showed up on the side of right and truth and they were protected
- 36:13from being harmed, and the police were not going to protect them. The
- 36:16police just put up some yellow tape and turned their backs. They would have
- 36:20been thrilled. The politicians, I should say, would have been thrilled.
- 36:24Had Antifa and all the leftists you know, just beaten, beaten the Christians
- 36:32half to death, they would have turned their backs on it. You know,
- 36:36in the BM rights people weren't prosecuted. They killed people and they've walked
- 36:40free. That was what was set up to happen. And through the intercession
- 36:45of Pope Saint John Paul the Second Christians were protected. The Bible witnesses to
- 36:53the role of saints, the early Church witnesses to the role of saints.
- 37:00If you believe that all Christians are part of the body of Christ, and
- 37:02you believe that we have eternal life in heaven, there really is no logical
- 37:10position against interacting with angels and saints, praying to them, which means pracada
- 37:16to ask, not worshiping them to God alone belongs worship, but asking for
- 37:23their intercession. And I hope, really I pray Protestants will begin to realize
- 37:32this, so we can begin to bring unity to the body of Christ and
- 37:37to drive out the evil that is taking over our world in our country.
- 37:44All right, y'all have a going and I will talk to your moor.
- 37:46Remember in the words of Saint Padre Pio, there's an amazing saint. We'll
- 37:52talk about him someday. Pray, hope and don't worry.
