- 5:15Speaker 2: So I'm not asking you to do it, because you've done it already and greatly appreciated.
- 5:19Speaker 2: I'm not worthy anyways, uh.
- 5:24Speaker 2: So, greg schneider, so there's a lot of people talking, so let's?
- 5:28Speaker 2: Uh also distillers talk podcast with alan and our friend christy atkinson's uh, hopefully.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Yeah, that that's a great podcast too, that's for sure.
- 5:42Speaker 2: But what I want to say is that let's just define bottom shelf tonight.
- 5:48Speaker 2: So you've got the bottom shelf, the bottom shelf ain't the bottom shelf.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Tonight, when I went to go check out the bottom shelf, old granddad was on the bottom shelf.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Not a bottom shelf bourbon, not a bottled in bond, nothing, it's all over $20.
- 6:04Speaker 2: And Jim Beam at $19.99 and Jack Daniels at $19.99 or $20, whatever.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Those aren't bottom shelf bourbons.
- 6:13Speaker 2: When I was growing up, jim Beam and Jack Daniels were the top shelf at that same price.
- 6:19Speaker 2: When you were buying a bottle of Jack or you bought a bottle of Jim Bean, you were buying the top shelf bourbons.
- 6:26Speaker 2: This is before.
- 6:28Speaker 2: You know.
- 6:29Speaker 2: The 90s hit and everything, when we started getting all the small batches and you started getting into the EH tailors and you started getting into you know that all changed, all changed.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Okay, but in my, my actual brain, I can never say that Jack Daniels at $20 or I've even seen it or a Jim beam at $20 a bottle, they're not bottom shelves, okay.
- 6:53Speaker 2: Um is, yeah, roger, ofc, old fire copper at you know, that's one of my favorite bottom shelves.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Yes, but the bottom shelf is anything I want to say.
- 7:06Speaker 2: If it's under it's $1799 and lower.
- 7:10Speaker 2: I will say a couple $1999s on the bottom shelf could be also qualified, but they would be the top of the line bottom shelf shelfer.
- 7:22Speaker 2: So when I went out, um, I already you know one of the one of the ultimate bottom shelfers is jts brown, that is.
- 7:31Speaker 2: That was on the bottom shelf that was priced at 17.99, I believe.
- 7:37Speaker 2: So that one was.
- 7:40Speaker 2: We're just getting into this a little bit Now.
- 7:43Speaker 2: The benchmark here, this just straight benchmark, number eight, it's bottom shelf.
- 7:49Speaker 2: This was $12.99.
- 8:09Speaker 2: Now I picked up this old crow, which I believe it doesn't.
- 8:11Speaker 2: I think, let me, I need my, I definitely need my glasses.
- 8:12Speaker 2: I wanted to see Frankfurt, claremont, old Crow Distillery, 80 Proof.
- 8:16Speaker 2: Where is it?
- 8:18Speaker 2: I want to say what is?
- 8:23Speaker 2: this bottle.
- 8:23Speaker 2: It's supposed to say how much it, how much it's one liter and this was 11.99.
- 8:31Speaker 2: This is one liter for 11.99.
- 8:34Speaker 2: They had the one and a half liter too, there too.
- 8:37Speaker 2: So I mean, then mellow corn was on the bottom shelf and that one, that one was 1999, but it was there.
- 8:49Speaker 2: And I want to say then the benchmark, the whole benchmark thing, but single barrel, which I have here, which was on there, was $24.99.
- 8:59Speaker 2: So I'm putting that off to the side and the I didn't have the bonded.
- 9:06Speaker 2: The bonded was $19.99.
- 9:08Speaker 2: But the top floor and the foolproof top floor $14.99 and the foolproof was $16.99.
- 9:16Speaker 2: So I'm telling you these are all now.
- 9:21Speaker 2: Ancient age was $12.99.
- 9:25Speaker 2: Okay, and honestly, at $12.99 for Ancient Age there was a limit, one per customer.
- 9:35Speaker 2: So the Ancient Age at $12.99 was allocated All right.
- 9:40Speaker 2: Age at 1299 was allocated all right.
- 9:48Speaker 2: A few few.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Henry mckenna.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Bourbon never showed up on the quality.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Bourbon radar was always spectacular.
- 9:50Speaker 2: In the late 1960s and 1980s.
- 9:52Speaker 2: Price was low but the quality was absolutely phenomenal.
- 9:56Speaker 2: Unfortunately, I gotta see more here.
- 9:59Speaker 2: It's like you're, like he's writing long.
- 10:02Speaker 2: Oh, what the heck?
- 10:03Speaker 2: Where did my?
- 10:05Speaker 2: Yeah, I grabbed that the wrong way.
- 10:07Speaker 2: I was using it upside down.
- 10:09Speaker 2: I didn't get it as properly notary notary until the last.
- 10:14Speaker 2: It didn't get its proper notary till the the past couple years.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's funny that you say that because it was.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I mean, what you're talking about bottom shelf from the 1980s opposed to bottom shelf now is a whole different game.
- 10:32Speaker 2: I mean, when you're talking about the top shelf price in the 1980s, in the 60s, 70s and 80s, if you were paying 18.99, 1999 for a bottle of bourbon, that was a top shelf price.
- 10:47Speaker 2: Jack daniels was straightforward, right in your face and jim beam at face level, um, those were top shelf bourbons.
- 10:55Speaker 2: And then, from going down, um, you know, when I started this and looking into this in probably two, 2012, I started looking at the bourbon shelf for gifts for family friends in what I'm not, I taylor.
- 11:14Speaker 2: Um, I knew what.
- 11:16Speaker 2: Uh, I knew what.
- 11:20Speaker 2: Um, what is it?
- 11:22Speaker 2: Why am I having a problem?
- 11:24Speaker 2: Basil Hayden, eh Taylor, gave those away for gifts to people who like whiskey and bourbon.
- 11:31Speaker 2: But when I walked into the liquor store and I saw the scotches and the bourbons and there were so many and it was just so strange to me and I it was just so strange to me.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I thought the selection was kind of like.
- 11:44Speaker 2: It was like looking at Chinese to me, like I didn't understand what I was looking at.
- 11:50Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 11:50Speaker 2: I bought in the nineties.
- 11:53Speaker 2: I bought in 1992, I bought a Jim Jack Daniels single barrel from.
- 12:00Speaker 2: My dad drank Jack Daniels so I bought the single barrel from Sam's Club in 92, 93.
- 12:06Speaker 2: And I had a bottle of Jack Daniels single barrel in my liquor cabinet for about three, four years and I coveted it, paid $32.99, $38 something right around there in the 90s and I thought I had an expensive bottle.
- 12:21Speaker 2: But I had no idea what a single barrel is.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I thought it was like a single malt, didn't really know what was going on.
- 12:29Speaker 2: But we're talking about bottom shelf today and what's good Now everybody knows.
- 12:34Speaker 2: In my opinion, the bottom shelf has raised up in quality based off of good whiskey being made and the heat and everything that's happening in Kentucky.
- 12:48Speaker 2: Most of the time these whiskeys are cheap because they're not aged for a long time.
- 12:56Speaker 2: For instance, benchmark is, I believe, two three-year-old EH Taylor.
- 13:02Speaker 2: I know that EHlor sits around seven years old.
- 13:06Speaker 2: Um, you know, you're just looking at a little bit younger versions of that, but that doesn't mean it's the whiskey going in the barrel and into the is quality whiskey.
- 13:17Speaker 2: It's the same distillate that just takes its way through Taylor up through.
- 13:24Speaker 2: I believe Taylor also is Stag and George T, stag and Stag and those two, they're all in the same mash bill.
- 13:35Speaker 2: It's just where they are in the warehouse and how things change and how they're different.
- 13:39Speaker 2: How things change and how they're different.
- 13:41Speaker 2: So you know it's funny because our first ever podcast if I'm not mistaken, one of the few ones we said that I want to say that we said that it was Benchmark, was no Ancient Age, was Blaine's.
- 14:01Speaker 2: I think that's what it was.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Somehow we got just killed.
- 14:04Speaker 2: Um, it wasn't, it's not it.
- 14:07Speaker 2: It was just like.
- 14:08Speaker 2: That was one of the most traumatic um podcasts we ever did.
- 14:12Speaker 2: But we also making that mistake.
- 14:14Speaker 2: Um, it was our most popular at the time.
- 14:17Speaker 2: It was so funny because it was traumatic.
- 14:19Speaker 2: People were just yelling at us but everybody was watching.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I think they were all watching laughing at us because we didn't know what we were talking about.
- 14:25Speaker 2: When it came to that, I learned after that podcast to, before I do anything to really go about and do my research so that I don't make dumb statements that one I followed the advice of a friend who said that that's what it was, and I wasn't sure.
- 14:43Speaker 2: So that was kind of interesting.
- 14:45Speaker 2: So let me get back to comments.
- 14:47Speaker 2: A lot of people on tonight Ed yeah, there we go.
- 14:56Speaker 2: So, randy Ford yeah, randy, when we were making $3 per hour and it was a different world, yeah, well, I don't know if it's $3 an hour, but it wasn't quite as much as what the word is here Just left you.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Oh, thank you, john, I really appreciate that for the five-star rating.
- 15:17Speaker 2: Let's see, randy said Cooper's Craft.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I think Cooper's Craft is, uh, $1,250 out the door, but really you got Cooper's Craft for $1,250 out the door.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 15:33Speaker 2: I remember it being a little bit more than that.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Um, let's see, there was another one up here, walker.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Um, let's see, there was another one up here, walker.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Let's see Back to the bottom shelf.
- 15:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, henry McKenna gets it.
- 15:48Speaker 2: I don't know, do you want the bottom shelf good bourbons not to get their due?
- 15:55Speaker 2: Because if they do, their price is just going to go up.
- 15:58Speaker 2: I remember in 2019 buying Weller weller red for 27.99 and then that price now is 49.99.
- 16:10Speaker 2: I mean, it's just crazy, because once people are on to um something, the price goes up.
- 16:17Speaker 2: So it's almost like we're always like everybody be quiet, shh, shh, shh, shh.
- 16:19Speaker 2: Everybody be quiet.
- 16:20Speaker 2: But so let's get into this a little bit.
- 16:23Speaker 2: For tasting wise, I was hoping CT would join us, but it doesn't look like he's going to be joining us.
- 16:29Speaker 2: I love what's happening on Kentucky 10.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Yes, that is one too, that sweet chariot mentioned.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Good to see we got.
- 16:42Speaker 2: I've been getting into brandy.
- 16:45Speaker 2: That is good stuff.
- 16:46Speaker 2: Well, alfonso, you should definitely.
- 16:50Speaker 2: If you're getting into brandy, yes, if it's distilled, right, especially I like pot-stilled brandy.
- 16:56Speaker 2: But if you're getting into that, you should really get into some bourbon or whiskey also, that you should really get into some bourbon or whiskey also.
- 17:04Speaker 2: So the first one I'm gonna do tonight is um, I'm just gonna compare bottom shelf.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Uh, I was thinking that I pull, there was one, there was one bottle over here.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Let me see, I did want to Comparatively.
- 17:30Speaker 2: So one of the things I wanted to do is that what I find sometimes that craft distilleries you go around to all the different ones around and although you might pay 60, 55, 59, 65 dollars a bottle, the bottom shelf bourbons will hold up above and beyond the actual craft distillery bottle.
- 18:00Speaker 2: And that's just not in most cases, just some cases.
- 18:03Speaker 2: So that's the part that I wanted.
- 18:08Speaker 2: That was out there.
- 18:09Speaker 2: But I was thinking that I would just taste through these and see which one out of all.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I know that I like Ancient Age.
- 18:20Speaker 2: There's no doubt about it when it comes to ancient age.
- 18:23Speaker 2: He was getting rid of the 83 proofed clear space.
- 18:26Speaker 2: I gave him a grant for four.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Let's see john ritt.
- 18:31Speaker 2: One year we are making for the 80s.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Yep, okay, so anyways.
- 18:42Speaker 2: So I was thinking I would start this out JTS Brown.
- 18:46Speaker 2: Now, jts Brown is I believe it was $17.99, bottom shelf.
- 18:53Speaker 2: This is this one actually is bottled in bond.
- 18:58Speaker 2: That's 100 proof and it's four years old.
- 19:01Speaker 2: And you get it, for I mean, you're talking about one of the now CT loves this.
- 19:06Speaker 2: Now, one of the factors of a bottom shelfer is a plastic top, a screw top.
- 19:14Speaker 2: Now, don't get me wrong, there are other screw tops out there, but this is just cheap plastic screw top in a bottle.
- 19:21Speaker 2: Some of the bottom, the bottom shelfers, can be in plastic.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Now, I am not a fan of even buying the small bottles in plastic.
- 19:30Speaker 2: I just don't like bourbon.
- 19:32Speaker 2: I want it in in glass.
- 19:33Speaker 2: So we'll take a little bit of this jts brown now once again this one hunter proof.
- 19:41Speaker 2: It's a bottled in bond and I believe it's made.
- 19:45Speaker 2: I want to say, if I'm not mistaken, you pick this, I picked this.
- 19:49Speaker 2: You can pick this up at heaven hill right, distilled and aged in kentucky, bottled at the jts brown sun company bardstown, kentucky.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Um, yeah, I believe that is somewhat.
- 20:03Speaker 2: This is the dsp kentucky one.
- 20:07Speaker 2: So heaven hill distillers, heaven hill makes this.
- 20:10Speaker 2: Yeah, cheers to Heaven Hill producing some good on-the-shelf everyday whiskey.
- 20:18Speaker 2: So the one thing that I always find is yeah, what you do is oh, this is four years old, 100 proof.
- 20:37Speaker 2: I mean there's just, it's, it's fantastic whiskey.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Um, like I said, ct loves this.
- 20:45Speaker 2: Ct actually put jts brown in a in a barrel um that he had gotten and he aged it further in his living room in a 53 gallon barrel.
- 20:56Speaker 2: So that was kind of cool.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah, it is in the Heaven Hill on the right of their gift shop, but at the same time, randy, I picked this up and saw it today.
- 21:06Speaker 2: I didn't pick it up, but that one I picked up.
- 21:09Speaker 2: I might've gotten it at Heaven Hill, but today I saw it on the shelf in a liter form for $18.99 at my local Giant Eagle when I went there because I just wanted to see what the bottom shelf was.
- 21:22Speaker 2: You know what the bottom shelf was and the bottom shelf wasn't even fair Because there's so much whiskey on the shelf these days as far as to choose from that some of the better things, like Old Granddad got kicked down there.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Jts Brown's down there.
- 21:39Speaker 2: I couldn't even get to Ancient Age because it was sold out.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I mean, what world do we live in that when you go to pick up a bottom shelf bourbon for $12.99, you can't get it, even at a limit per one?
- 21:53Speaker 2: That means it must be some damn good whiskey that people are drinking.
- 21:57Speaker 2: So Greg says, unfortunately, marketing doesn't always correlate with the great tasting whiskey Most have never heard of.
- 22:05Speaker 2: Mattingly and more Bourbon.
- 22:08Speaker 2: In the late 70s and early 80s it was truly bottom shelf with early times, cabin still, yellowstone etc.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Uh, it's.
- 22:17Speaker 2: He keeps making me get my and I always put it the wrong way.
- 22:21Speaker 2: All right, here we go.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Uh, in today's standard, all those will stand up against most high-end bourbon and whiskeys.
- 22:30Speaker 2: Yes, and you gotta agree.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Um, the thing about these particular bourbons 114 is bottom shelf here in chicagoland.
- 22:41Speaker 2: No, old granddad is not at 114, it was 32.99.
- 22:47Speaker 2: So once again, guys, we are, we are, we are making the actual bottom shelf based off of price, and it's got to be.
- 22:59Speaker 2: For instance, I picked up the old crow right here.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I believe this was $11.99 for a liter, bottom shelf.
- 23:10Speaker 2: The JTS Brown was $18.99 for a liter.
- 23:14Speaker 2: We're talking 750 milliliters.
- 23:16Speaker 2: It's got to be below.
- 23:18Speaker 2: It's got to be below 1799, 1899.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Um, it can't at 1999.
- 23:25Speaker 2: It qualifies you.
- 23:27Speaker 2: It's not a bottom shelfer.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Um, you're getting into the gin beams to jacks and those are not bottom shelf whiskeys, they're everyday whiskeys that sell out their minds.
- 23:40Speaker 2: But Randy Ford, I've gotten it at Evergreen and others, all right.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Walker John Ritt, that's okay, they don't know what they are missing.
- 23:51Speaker 2: What are we talking about right now?
- 23:54Speaker 2: Walker, um john ritt, oh, granddad, oh, granddad is good.
- 23:59Speaker 2: I mean, I have 114.
- 24:01Speaker 2: I picked that up.
- 24:03Speaker 2: I believe at that.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Yeah, oh, granddad, 114.
- 24:07Speaker 2: I picked up for 1999 at costco in wisconsin.
- 24:10Speaker 2: So that's still higher than um in my opinion.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Let's see, higher than uh, this is higher than okay.
- 24:25Speaker 2: How about that old tub?
- 24:26Speaker 2: I agree old tub, but old tub initially was 1899 and it's one of my favorites.
- 24:31Speaker 2: But I will say that right now it's $23.99, so I don't qualify it as bottom shelf.
- 24:40Speaker 2: Evan Williams I have over here, but Evan Williams still will run you $19.99.
- 24:46Speaker 2: So I put that with uh Jack Daniels and uh, what you call it, um, old Crow.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Yes, that's proud.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Thank you, dave, that you're proud of your boy.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Let's see, it's good juice, I agree, I love Old Tub.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Do you drink and drive?
- 25:07Speaker 2: No, I don't.
- 25:09Speaker 2: If you listen to the podcast, you'll know that I advocate not drinking and driving and drinking responsibly.
- 25:15Speaker 2: So there's some off of the right there, off of youtube, tonight's wild.
- 26:07Speaker 2: We've got uh it going on youtube and we've got it going on facebook, you guys.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Um, it's good, but it's chicagoland, all right, see that they don't know.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Yep, old granddad okay, old Granddad 114 is one of my favorite.
- 26:21Speaker 2: I drank the hell out of that particular bottle when I picked that up in Wisconsin.
- 26:27Speaker 2: I believe I left that for my friends and they cashed the bottle.
- 26:32Speaker 2: Yeah, anyways, let's the old.
- 26:37Speaker 2: The JTS Brown, let's.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Tonight's podcast is phenomenal for online.
- 26:44Speaker 2: I'm uh, applauding everybody online.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Uh, appreciate y'all being here.
- 26:48Speaker 2: Um, let's see what we got.
- 26:52Speaker 2: Um, let's see what's going on with this jts brown.
- 26:56Speaker 2: So this tastes like one of the things that it's more of a big bourbon.
- 27:09Speaker 2: It tastes like what you smell in a Rick house.
- 27:11Speaker 2: There's not a lot of caramels, there's not a lot of complexity.
- 27:14Speaker 2: This is just like, if you're a fan of what whiskey, bourbon whiskey would taste like.
- 27:21Speaker 2: That's what this tastes like.
- 27:22Speaker 2: It's a phenomenal pour.
- 27:27Speaker 2: All right, let's open up.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Let's go to the Old Crow.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Now, this Old Crow, I do believe Old Crow.
- 27:34Speaker 2: I'm going to try and figure this out.
- 27:38Speaker 2: I'm not going to try and figure this out.
- 27:41Speaker 2: Division of the Old Crow Distilling Company, frankfurt, claremont.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Let's see Whiskeys drink smart, okay, crow bourbon was the finest to begin using this process.
- 28:02Speaker 2: Today, the sour mash process has become the standard in the bourbon industry.
- 28:03Speaker 2: I'm just looking age for a full three years in new charred white oak barrels wwwtheoldswhiskeycom.
- 28:13Speaker 2: Drink smart, I can't, it's like you guys.
- 28:20Speaker 2: Um, yeah, walker.
- 28:24Speaker 2: Um, it's not a caramel, there is no.
- 28:28Speaker 2: No, randy, please don't shut up.
- 28:31Speaker 2: Um, that's what we're not supposed to be doing here.
- 28:32Speaker 2: We're all supposed to be talking.
- 28:34Speaker 2: It was top shelf many, many years ago.
- 28:37Speaker 2: Um does, uh, that was on youtube by thomas uh, jw dant is a good, cheap option too, but I do believe that, dant hi, you might be right.
- 28:51Speaker 2: I have a bottle of jw dant.
- 28:52Speaker 2: I might have picked that up for 14.99, I'm not sure.
- 28:56Speaker 2: Um, heaven hill likes to keep that one on the low down, on the ho down.
- 29:02Speaker 2: They don't even push that at their distillery.
- 29:06Speaker 2: That's a very interesting story, old Crow.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Let's see what we got Now.
- 29:15Speaker 2: This one at 11, that has a.
- 29:18Speaker 2: What would you say?
- 29:21Speaker 2: It's a three year or so, 36 month.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Let me see it.
- 29:27Speaker 2: A lot of char.
- 29:33Speaker 2: You can taste the corn.
- 29:37Speaker 2: You can taste the corn At 80 proof.
- 29:45Speaker 2: It's very, very unique.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Dang it MSRP 15.
- 29:48Speaker 2: There you go.
- 29:49Speaker 2: That's what I thought, $14.99.
- 29:50Speaker 2: That's what I picked it up for.
- 29:52Speaker 2: Does anybody know what?
- 29:53Speaker 2: Old Crow, james Crow, old Crow.
- 29:57Speaker 2: What distillery actually makes this?
- 29:59Speaker 2: That would be good to know.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Sometimes Walker is good for that, jamie, anybody out there?
- 30:14Speaker 2: I know also if Greg's watching still, but he might have gone on for the evening.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Christian salutes.
- 30:18Speaker 2: We got a guy on from Argentina.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Howdy, christian, good to have you here.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 30:32Speaker 2: That's interesting, I'm going to say it tastes bottom shelf, but $11.99.
- 30:40Speaker 2: I would put that in a mixer.
- 30:41Speaker 2: It's more, there's no.
- 30:43Speaker 2: It's more confectionery sugar no brown sugar.
- 30:48Speaker 2: That's what I thought, james.
- 30:50Speaker 2: I thought it was Jim Beam.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Um, so it's three-year-old, probably similar to three-year-old beam.
- 30:58Speaker 2: Don't pick up a lot of the peanut, but it's there slightly.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Actually, I pick up, like, like, it's like a three-year-old basil hayden.
- 31:10Speaker 2: Very, it's smooth, but there's uh still a youngness to it, put it that way.
- 31:17Speaker 2: But that's gonna do the trick.
- 31:18Speaker 2: I mean, it's 80 proof and you know, if you're looking to have fun, that's the one for a whiskey.
- 31:26Speaker 2: This tastes like smoke.
- 31:27Speaker 2: What's the best one?
- 31:29Speaker 2: I've been searching for a whiskey that tastes like smoke.
- 31:31Speaker 2: What's the best one?
- 31:32Speaker 2: Joe and matt, I mean smoke.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Um, as far as, like a more of a char, I mean bookers, I mean, you're always going to pick up that barrel char off of bookers.
- 31:45Speaker 2: Uh, that's a good one.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Uh, that's one I would recommend.
- 31:50Speaker 2: Um, but if you're talking about a really smoky one, I have to think about that.
- 31:55Speaker 2: So we'll see.
- 31:58Speaker 2: Uh, merlarky Smokehouse, all right, beam, centauri, centauri.
- 32:05Speaker 2: Globo distills it.
- 32:07Speaker 2: Now, there we go, I got Beam.
- 32:10Speaker 2: Yeah, thank you, randy, john, james and Walker.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Y'all hit it.
- 32:15Speaker 2: That's what I thought it was.
- 32:19Speaker 2: But, like, like I said, I don't like to uh, you know, make statements that I don't know all right.
- 32:25Speaker 2: So, mellow corn, this one's 20, it's a bottled in bond.
- 32:30Speaker 2: Also, the reason was, rather than the ulysses s oh, that's good to know.
- 32:35Speaker 2: Oh, crow was uh ulysses s Grant's favorite brand Story is that a gossip junior accused Grant of being a drunk.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Abraham Lincoln, when questioned about the rumors, replied that he would like to know his favorite brand and he sent it to the other generals because they needed to be drinking the same thing.
- 32:57Speaker 2: He was.
- 32:58Speaker 2: Yes, I've heard that one before.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Mellow Corn is another.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Bottled in bond it's a corn whiskey, but um, straight corn whiskey, but straight corn whiskey, uh would can be considered bourbon if it's uh aged in new barrels.
- 33:16Speaker 2: So, and if it's bottled and bonded, it has to be in an age, new barrel, same season.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Um, at least a hundred, or it has to be a hundred proof, and at least four years old.
- 33:33Speaker 2: I would suggest anybody who drinks bourbon you got to have some mellow corn, I mean for a hundred proof, and a four year corn.
- 33:46Speaker 2: It is spectacular as far as taste.
- 33:48Speaker 2: I like mellow corn.
- 33:52Speaker 2: Ancient age is smoky.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Ancient age, to me, has cotton candy on it.
- 33:58Speaker 2: That's what it.
- 34:05Speaker 2: That's the.
- 34:06Speaker 2: I don't get a lot of smoke agent.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Age 10 maybe, I don't know.
- 34:09Speaker 2: There you go, um, but jay, uh, everybody has their own thing and, like I said, I can't buy age and age.
- 34:14Speaker 2: I went there to buy it.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Limit one sold out.
- 34:17Speaker 2: Um, whoever thought of 12.99 for a 750 milliliter bourbon, it's going to sell out with a limit one.
- 34:25Speaker 2: It's like, uh, buffalo trace, no matter whatever they touch, they can't make enough.
- 34:29Speaker 2: So anyways, yeah, all right.
- 34:38Speaker 2: So now we get into benchmark.
- 34:43Speaker 2: Now.
- 34:44Speaker 2: So far, drinking those, I'm still gonna go with mellow corn, but that's the most expensive.
- 34:49Speaker 2: But if I had to go between regular but, oh well, jts brown, old crow, I'm going with the jts brown, but let's do the regular Benchmark, that's Benchmark 8.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Now this Benchmark 8, I have had this bottle since 2019.
- 35:07Speaker 2: So let's just see.
- 35:09Speaker 2: Actually, there is, I believe, the fifth podcast this bottle is from, so I was looking it up.
- 35:18Speaker 2: It's just called Benchmark.
- 35:19Speaker 2: You can check it out, what we thought.
- 35:21Speaker 2: But I'm just doing benchmark right here.
- 35:24Speaker 2: Slide that back in, let's go.
- 35:28Speaker 2: Okay, we're good on there.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Only exception for bt bombs is traveler.
- 35:34Speaker 2: The only exceptions for a Buffalo trace bombs is traveler.
- 35:40Speaker 2: What do you mean?
- 35:41Speaker 2: What do you mean by that, randy?
- 35:43Speaker 2: I mean, are you saying only exception?
- 35:47Speaker 2: I'm trying to follow.
- 35:49Speaker 2: Are you saying traveler is not good or traveler is good or what?
- 35:52Speaker 2: Because, honestly, they made so much of it that it's out there but they made probably 50 times more Traveler than they did.
- 36:06Speaker 2: Benchmark and Ancient Age it's just insane.
- 36:11Speaker 2: It isn't as good as the others for the price.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Okay, so you think the Traveler whiskey, which is a blend of whiskey, you like the bourbons way better.
- 36:23Speaker 2: Okay, I can see that.
- 36:24Speaker 2: We did a whole podcast on that.
- 36:29Speaker 2: I did Blind and Traveler beat out EH Taylor, which blew my mind In the Blind.
- 36:36Speaker 2: The Blind was so telling I thought I knew what I was talking about.
- 36:42Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 36:42Speaker 2: It was buffalo trace, it was eh taylor, it was traveler, and then I forget what the other one was.
- 36:51Speaker 2: But, um, there was one other one which was obvious.
- 36:58Speaker 2: Whatever that one, trace Taylor, there was four of them and I thought I knew what I was talking about, but I didn't.
- 37:07Speaker 2: All right, so the benchmark, regular, regular benchmark, it's very, very wonder what that after sitting in that bottle for a while, there is a nice sweetness to it and it's very, very, very, very smooth.
- 37:38Speaker 2: After being, you know, five years in a in the, with the bottle Six-eighths gone, I like that better than.
- 37:49Speaker 2: That's pretty, that's pretty good.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Now.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Let's go to.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Let's go to the top shelf next and seeparatively, top Shelf is $16.99.
- 38:06Speaker 2: My sweet girlfriend is listening in tonight.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Guess I better watch my link, greg.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Greg, I wanted to know Old Crow, was that a Top Shelf also?
- 38:17Speaker 2: Greg, I wanted to know Old Crow, was that a top shelf also?
- 38:20Speaker 2: That was something I wanted to ask you because one of our guys said that it was, you know, a high end.
- 38:30Speaker 2: At one point, like you said, ulysses S Grant was drinking it.
- 38:38Speaker 2: So I mean God All right.
- 38:39Speaker 2: So I mean God All right.
- 38:41Speaker 2: In your Traveler podcast, we likened it to a hopped up Dr Pepper.
- 38:49Speaker 2: In your Traveler podcast, we likened it to a hopped up Dr Pepper.
- 38:52Speaker 2: Okay, like I said, I enjoy it.
- 38:58Speaker 2: There's nothing wrong with it.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Harlan Wheatley put his name on it.
- 39:03Speaker 2: I was impressed.
- 39:04Speaker 2: It just was whiskey to me.
- 39:07Speaker 2: It wasn't looking for it to be a bourbon or whatever.
- 39:10Speaker 2: I go at things, whether I like it or not.
- 39:13Speaker 2: And then because of the controversy that it did show that the part of Traveler that I didn't like was because everybody could get it and there was cases of it available so that it wasn't running out.
- 39:28Speaker 2: And you just like ancient age?
- 39:29Speaker 2: I can't get it.
- 39:31Speaker 2: I can't get it for the podcast.
- 39:32Speaker 2: It's limit, one per person, it's 12.99 and it's gone off the shelf of travelers.
- 39:37Speaker 2: You, you can walk in tonight and buy it, but that's because of how much they made based off of then also having it be a celebrity-sponsored whiskey along with their celebrity master distiller.
- 39:56Speaker 2: I mean, harlan Wheatley does not have his name on anything through Buffalo Trace as far as a brand, master distiller.
- 40:00Speaker 2: I mean, harlan wheatley does not have his name on anything, uh, through buffalo trace, as far as a brand, uh.
- 40:06Speaker 2: But you know, eh, taylor, does george t stagg, blanton, you know elmer t lee, all have their, their brand, but this was like harlan's first uh, go round for it.
- 40:19Speaker 2: He's got wheatley vodka, but does that really count at a bourbon distillery in Kentucky?
- 40:24Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 40:27Speaker 2: Would you like an Ancient Age 10?
- 40:28Speaker 2: I can bring one to BBF for you.
- 40:34Speaker 2: I've had Ancient Age 10.
- 40:35Speaker 2: It's just that it's not out on the shelf.
- 40:38Speaker 2: I mean, you try and buy it and you know, but it's not high end.
- 40:43Speaker 2: The reason why I'm doing this podcast is because this is the low, low end for everybody, and I always like to go over with everybody what you know, what's on the shelf for low end.
- 40:54Speaker 2: Um, when we've done it.
- 40:56Speaker 2: You know we've tasted it on the podcast before, but with this benchmark top floor now um, let's see joe and matt, benchmark mark, top floor is a little smoky.
- 41:25Speaker 2: so it's got some nice vanilla, a little bit of caramel and it's got a nice char smoke flavor to it.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Now that makes sense because it's top floor.
- 41:37Speaker 2: This is aging.
- 41:39Speaker 2: Let's see.
- 41:42Speaker 2: It says McPhee Brothers Is that what it is?
- 41:51Speaker 2: Mcphee Brothers, benchmark, mcphee Is that what it is?
- 41:54Speaker 2: Mcphee Brothers, benchmark McPhee, mcafee, mcafee.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Yes, walker, are you guys going to?
- 42:03Speaker 2: Let's see Walker, yellowstone, etc.
- 42:10Speaker 2: Old Crow was not in the late 1970s, 80s, similar to early times.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Cabin Still, yellowstone, etc.
- 42:13Speaker 2: Old Crow was not in the late 1970s, 80s, similar to early times.
- 42:15Speaker 2: Cabin Still, yellowstone, etc.
- 42:18Speaker 2: Never achieved a quality recognition.
- 42:21Speaker 2: Okay, um, that's good to know.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Um, dare you combine all the drinks into one and down it?
- 42:31Speaker 2: No, ivan, dare you combine all the drinks into one and down it?
- 42:33Speaker 2: No, ivan, ivan romero's like just mix them all together and down it, bro.
- 42:39Speaker 2: You need to stop being drunk.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, uh, not really drunk right now, uh, talking similar, uh, tasting, tasting doesn't get you drunk too bad, uh, but at the same time, no, no, we don't put them together, but some people do what they call.
- 42:58Speaker 2: What is it?
- 43:00Speaker 2: I want to say it's not a millennium bottle, it's a oh, come on, walker, you can help me out with that too.
- 43:10Speaker 2: What kind of bottle is it when they mix them all together, you take the last pour of each bottle and you put them together and you call it uh, thank you, randy an infinity bottle.
- 43:24Speaker 2: So, um, thomas, um, let's see, it was back in the 1940s all right.
- 43:32Speaker 2: So thomas Thomas says to Greg he thinks that Old Crow in the 1940s was more of a top shelf at the time.
- 43:41Speaker 2: Yeah, and then the Infinity Bottle is when you finish you get down to one last pour, you pour it into a bottle and you mix them all together to make it an infinity bottle.
- 43:53Speaker 2: That is different because it's based off of the whiskey that you like and that you finish, and every time you fill that bottle and start drinking it.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Now for me, even that becomes tiresome.
- 44:07Speaker 2: Drinking something like that when I've all I've got so much to choose from already, I don't like.
- 44:13Speaker 2: I've never done an infinity bottle.
- 44:15Speaker 2: And thank you, greg and Walker and Randy on that.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Uh, you guys have been great support tonight.
- 44:21Speaker 2: Um, oh yeah, ganja, go ahead, man, that's.
- 44:27Speaker 2: It's legal here in Ohio now, just as a tuesday, we can, everybody can smoke it recreationally.
- 44:34Speaker 2: How to interest?
- 44:37Speaker 2: Yeah, so now we're getting some ridiculous comments.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Um, no um.
- 44:47Speaker 2: everclear is designed to be just straight um high-end burned-out alcohol off the still.
- 44:56Speaker 2: The proof isn't going to go up as you mix.
- 45:01Speaker 2: You're going to be mixing 80s and 90s and 120s, so you're going to get an average amount of proof when you do the infinity bottle.
- 45:09Speaker 2: So, that's kind of cool.
- 45:10Speaker 2: So that's the benchmark mark, top floor for $16.99.
- 45:18Speaker 2: I could drink this all day.
- 45:20Speaker 2: There's even I'm picking up this time a little bit of apple, caramel apple on it, so nice bottle there.
- 45:27Speaker 2: And then the foolproof which I, which I think that one was $14.99, and this the foolproof was $16.99.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Now the foolproof to me, the single barrel that I got of the Benchmark was fantastic, but the foolproof to me was Benchmark was the ultimate bottle for me.
- 45:49Speaker 2: On the bottom.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Now we'll say, right now JTS Brown is in the running and I would say not old crow not mellow.
- 46:04Speaker 2: I'd say right now it's JTS Brown, let's see, we'll just do a little bit of full proof and see if that I gotta decide which, which one it is, got the full proof benchmark.
- 46:20Speaker 2: All right, like that.
- 46:30Speaker 2: Like that, I just don't see where you can go wrong.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Where can you get a foolproof bourbon?
- 46:45Speaker 2: So this proof, so this foolproof is 125 proof and it is highest quality.
- 46:59Speaker 1: Let's just see what it is there.
- 47:03Speaker 2: All right, I'm not getting age on this, but let's just see Distilled, aged and bottled by Buffalo Trace Distillery.
- 47:15Speaker 2: Government warning yeah, you don't get, you're not getting the little bit of an age statement.
- 47:27Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, buffalo Trace makes some fantastic distillate.
- 47:31Speaker 2: Sazerac owns them, and they don't tell you their mash bills.
- 47:37Speaker 2: They tell you the story of the mash bill but they don't give you the details of the mash bill.
- 47:43Speaker 2: They'll tell you if it's a weed high rye, what one, the numbers and whatever and what the grains are that are in each mash bill, but they won't tell you the percentages.
- 47:54Speaker 2: And then, as far as age goes, there's not a lot of Buffalo Trace products that has an age statement on it, but they're whiskeys people want and desire because they're good.
- 48:09Speaker 2: They're good.
- 48:17Speaker 2: So this full proof for this price at a I don't know where else you could get 125 proof.
- 48:19Speaker 2: Uh, bourbon, now my wife likes the early times.
- 48:22Speaker 2: Uh, bottled in bond.
- 48:23Speaker 2: She said that was what she enjoyed for the bottom shelf, but realistically that's 22.
- 48:30Speaker 2: It's a cheaper bottle.
- 48:32Speaker 2: It's fantastic.
- 48:33Speaker 2: It drinks like a $40, $50 bottle and it is now bottled by Buffalo Trace at least, because I believe when they bought the brand from Brown and Foreman.
- 48:45Speaker 2: They bought the stock too.
- 48:47Speaker 2: So it's the same stuff going in.
- 48:50Speaker 2: They're just going to go forward with it, kind of cool.
- 48:57Speaker 2: Um, let's see, I can't really do that.
- 49:05Speaker 2: I'll check that after, greg.
- 49:05Speaker 2: Thank you for the um link.
- 49:06Speaker 2: Full proof runs mid twenties to mid thirties around here.
- 49:09Speaker 2: Oh, I just saw it at the store.
- 49:11Speaker 2: I believe it was $16.99, $14.99, and $16.99 for the foolproof.
- 49:20Speaker 2: I was like shocked.
- 49:22Speaker 2: So where is that's Randy?
- 49:27Speaker 2: All right, so I'm going to have to say I've got to put the two side by side.
- 49:36Speaker 2: I'm going to see which one the JTS Brown and the Full Proof can hold their own.
- 49:44Speaker 2: Grab this tasting glass, a little tasting glass from Jim Beam, all right, okay.
- 49:56Speaker 2: So he says he believes that foolproof is a three-year.
- 49:59Speaker 2: All right, so the JTS Brown, heaven Hill against the Benchmark foolproof.
- 50:06Speaker 2: Let's see which one they are.
- 50:10Speaker 2: Wow.
- 50:30Speaker 2: So if you're a huge bourbon fan, where you don't like it to be like a dessert bourbon.
- 50:39Speaker 2: You want it to be a whiskey, bourbon, you're going to go with the JTS Brown but, if you like, I just I'm amazed that you can pull in this foolproof bottle for the price you can and it's on the bottom shelf.
- 51:00Speaker 2: I just not, I don't.
- 51:03Speaker 2: I think this is an exceptional bottle to pull from the bottom shelf right here.
- 51:09Speaker 2: This foolproof JTS Brown is also a good bottle.
- 51:15Speaker 2: I wish jim beam would make a premium expression of old crow and bring it back to its former glory.
- 51:22Speaker 2: That would be yeah, that'd be kind of cool if they did yeah but, is okay.
- 51:30Speaker 2: So what?
- 51:31Speaker 2: So Jim Beam makes it and they're making Frankfurt and Claremont, meaning they're making it at the Claremont plant.
- 51:39Speaker 2: I don't believe.
- 51:40Speaker 2: Does Jim Beam actually have a distillery that's running in Frankfurt?
- 51:44Speaker 2: That one I am not aware of.
- 51:46Speaker 2: I am not aware of.
- 51:50Speaker 2: I know they have a lot of different um, you know, I know they have a lot of different.
- 51:57Speaker 2: What would you say?
- 51:59Speaker 2: I know they have a lot of different um places that they make, uh, they age the bourbon, but I'm not, you know, I always they do have one in Frankfurt, is it?
- 52:10Speaker 2: Ah, I wish CT was here, because, is it?
- 52:14Speaker 2: I know where the old crow distillery, um, is by um, it's in between glens creek and um.
- 52:27Speaker 2: I want to say, what is it?
- 52:34Speaker 2: They do the?
- 52:36Speaker 2: Oh, come on the Old Taylor Distillery, which is right now.
- 52:46Speaker 2: For some reason they make restoration rye.
- 52:49Speaker 2: What's the name of the distillery?
- 52:53Speaker 2: The old Old Taylor Distillery?
- 52:54Speaker 2: Wasn't Glens Creek Distilling?
- 52:58Speaker 2: Yeah, but that is in between.
- 53:05Speaker 2: The Old Crow Distillery is in between Glens Creek and the.
- 53:12Speaker 2: Why am I Castle and Key?
- 53:16Speaker 2: Thank you, they aged one of the Hardin's Creek expressions there.
- 53:22Speaker 2: That's kind of cool, thank you.
- 53:23Speaker 2: Thank you, greg.
- 53:24Speaker 2: I didn't see you put it up there, I remembered it.
- 53:27Speaker 2: Tonight is not a good memory night for me, so it's going really well on, uh, youtube and facebook, so all right.
- 53:38Speaker 2: So everybody, I would say if I had to pick between the two, I'm going with the full proof.
- 53:44Speaker 2: It's more caramely, bigger, bolder.
- 54:02Speaker 2: I think if you come across foolproof on the bottom shelf, no-brainer, it's something to pick up reasonable price.
- 54:13Speaker 2: You're getting um way more quality with this benchmark foolproof than you do on anything you know, most anything else on that bottom shelf and then, the jts brown comes in a close second uh this is a fantastic kevin hill product, um, for a really, really good price.
- 54:37Speaker 2: Um, so these two right here are strongly recommended.
- 54:41Speaker 2: Uh, I would say the old crow and the benchmark.
- 54:45Speaker 2: Uh, there you know, I don't know, you know you're, this is a good mixer.
- 54:53Speaker 2: I don't know, it's 11.99, but I can think of a lot of other things.
- 54:59Speaker 2: I'd rather be drinking than this but if you're on a budget, and you want to have a decent bourbon, this is this, is it?
- 55:08Speaker 2: I mean, if you can't afford those expensive bottles, uh, old crow will do the trick.
- 55:14Speaker 2: Um, in your mixed drinks.
- 55:16Speaker 2: Or if you want to pour, um, I I don't know if I think of drinking this out by the fire, relaxing as a sipper, uh, but uh, I I probably pretty good over rocks and um, it'll do the trick.
- 55:31Speaker 2: Um, this is something unique that was on the bottom shelf.
- 55:36Speaker 2: Um, straight corn whiskey.
- 55:38Speaker 2: I do enjoy the taste of it.
- 55:39Speaker 2: It might not be everybody's thing, but it is pretty good.
- 55:45Speaker 2: Bottom shelf in our area.
- 55:47Speaker 2: Yeah, well, I could tell you this.
- 55:50Speaker 2: The whole benchmark, even the bonded and the single barrel today, were on the bottom shelf, with the benchmark and the foolproof and the top shelf or the top floor.
- 56:10Speaker 2: All of them were on the bottom shelf.
- 56:12Speaker 2: So they were, you know, you could just say they were right there.
- 56:16Speaker 2: But as far as the price goes, it was only the full proof and, like I said, the full proof it was $14.99 and $16.99.
- 56:30Speaker 2: The full proof was $16.99, $14.99 was top shelf.
- 56:34Speaker 2: What's top shelf?
- 56:35Speaker 2: Buy you, randy Ford, it's on the bottom shelf here in many stores, but we know it's not bottom shelf.
- 56:41Speaker 2: It comes through hard.
- 56:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean it's not a bottom shelf, but it's on the bottom shelf and the price is the price.
- 56:52Speaker 2: So you're getting it.
- 56:53Speaker 2: It's a bottom shelf deal, that's what I would call.
- 56:56Speaker 2: But, randy, what is the price of the top shelf by you?
- 57:02Speaker 2: Are you paying 18, 19?
- 57:04Speaker 2: You know, I'm just you know it's you know, every state's different.
- 57:11Speaker 2: Sometimes it's more in other states because they can charge more because of the fact that it's being sought after.
- 57:18Speaker 2: Here in the state of ohio they have to.
- 57:21Speaker 2: The liquor stores have to charge msrp.
- 57:25Speaker 2: In illinois is the damn taxes.
- 57:31Speaker 2: Well, the the the taxes here in Ohio are high, but they have to charge MSRP because, though, the liquor is owned by the state and it is, um, it's kind of like a consignment shop that each liquor store consigns on to sell, and then they get a percentage of the sale, so, but the prices are controlled by the state.
- 58:00Speaker 2: So what used to really suck for us is that our taxes were high and the prices were controlled.
- 58:07Speaker 2: And let's just say, a bottle of Jack Daniels here would be $19.99.
- 58:13Speaker 2: In Wisconsin it would be $16.99 for that same bottle.
- 58:18Speaker 2: And it was a problem when I first moved here 20 years ago.
- 58:23Speaker 2: I couldn't buy liquor.
- 58:27Speaker 2: I'd have to go to a state store, and so I'd go back to Wisconsin and buy all my liquor, because it was cheaper and it could be up to $2, $3, $5 less, and I could buy it at the grocery store.
- 58:48Speaker 2: The current OHLQ team took over and became advocates of the consumer All of a sudden, especially in the bourbon market, we're getting things way cheaper than anybody else Because in states like Illinois you've got the tax but the liquor store owners can set the prices.
- 59:09Speaker 2: It's theirs to sell, so competition can set the prices.
- 59:15Speaker 2: It's theirs to sell, so competition.
- 59:16Speaker 2: So a lot of times something here that has to sell for $69.99 or $59.99 because it's MSRP will be selling for $72 or $68 or whatever because it's sought after, for instance, weller in Kentucky.
- 59:31Speaker 2: There's no place where Weller Special Reserve is under $80, $90.
- 59:37Speaker 2: Here in Ohio it's $24.99, and it has to stay there.
- 59:44Speaker 2: So anyways, yeah, ann Dimmick Jamie is a friend of ours and she has really, really her and Kanepa.
- 59:58Speaker 2: When he was doing this they kicked butt and now she further is kicking butt.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: Some of the stuff that we get here in Ohio is out of this world Buffalo Trace, where they had the Millennium bottle and then also the double Eagle, double Rare or Eagle Double Rare or whatever.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: It was the fact that that was allowed and went throughout the whole state and people who had the money who wanted to buy that.
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: But then there was also the Blanton's gold and there was the other bottle I believe.
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: Um, I wanted to say Elmer T.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: I mean it was just crazy what, what was available through the lottery.
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: So uh, that was at each place, double Eagle, very rare, thank you, randy.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: So 16 to 20.
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: All right, so, with that said, we got rusty and everything, if anybody has any questions.
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: And you guys all threw out what you liked and you guys all threw out what you liked.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: But I mean honestly, the bottom shelf is, you know, I felt has really really, with the aging process that's been happening in Kentucky, even the stuff that's two, three years old is getting these hot summers, in these cold winters, the whiskey is responding really well to the wood and it is um picking up a lot of flavors.
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: The quality of the distilling and all these distilleries there's, it's not um, it is computerized, and this, it's like they've all upgraded and built new distilleries and they can, they have a control over.
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: When you go to bardstown um bourbon company, you see the computer, you see the control, you can control it um, if you're not getting the yield you want off your fermentation, you can ferment um a little bit lower or higher degrees.
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: Everything is controlled.
- 1:02:14Speaker 2: The fermenting tanks are, temperatures are controlled.
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: The temperature of the cook is completely controlled.
- 1:02:21Speaker 2: You can adjust that if you're just to be able to get more yield from or flavor from each um you know batch that you make and um the know everybody says automated is like kind of.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: It's not the same as if the way you used to when you used to turn pressure valves and everything like that and it's not but what you know.
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: It's one thing to give that to somebody and they can then make good whiskey.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: But if you give those controls to somebody who understands how to make good whiskey and what they want to do artistically to make the good whiskey, they now have full control.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: Instead of making them draw with a pencil, now you're giving them the full color gamut and any color they want to mix up.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: You punch into the computer and the color is mixed up and they shake your can like they do at the hardware store.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: So I mean what you can do, how much whiskey you can make, how you can batch it up.
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: It's all computerized.
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: It's pretty damn impressive.
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: Um with don don is todd this month and you're doing a tasting coming up in a couple weeks at new riff with uh jay and uh come on I would add berg and bryan, bryan, jay and bryan.
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: So, uh, that should be fun.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: Oh, whiskey, nasa laughing out loud.
- 1:04:05Speaker 2: All right, I'm gonna be had to do with some garrison brothers.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: So you know what?
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: What is bottom shelf?
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: It's price, and you're talking about low price bourbons.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Uh, and whiskeys that you know they don't.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: It doesn't cost much.
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: Um, they're not age long, so they can put it out there at a lower price for people who don't have a lot of money.
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: But that doesn't mean they're drinking crappy whiskey.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: Um, nothing I tasted tonight.
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: I wanted to spit out.
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: So, um, with that said, cheers everybody.
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: Um, remember where the Scotchie bourbon boys, wwwscotchiebourbonboyscom, frank Aaron, says Rittenhouse rye bottled in bond is a bottom shelf too, but that is a rye.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: So I'm not a big fan of ryes, especially when it comes to bottom shelf rye.
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: So we probably won't see a bottom shelf rye podcast, otherwise I'll end up spitting out a lot of whiskey, and I really don't like to spit out a lot of whiskey on a podcast.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: A lot of whiskey, and I really don't like to spit out a lot of whiskey on a podcast.
