- 0:08Speaker 1: This is me eat your podcast coming at you shirtless,
- 0:12Speaker 1: severely bug bitten in my case, underwear listening to Hunt
- 0:16Speaker 1: Don't Meet to Eat podcast. You can't predict anything presented
- 0:21Speaker 1: by first, like creating proven versatile hunting apparel from Marino
- 0:25Speaker 1: bass layers to technical outerwear for every hunt first like
- 0:30Speaker 1: go farther, stay longer, as say, I don't have I
- 1:10Speaker 1: don't have like a strong emotional connection to the song. Now, oh,
- 1:38Speaker 1: there's a way to hand all right, everybody. We're in Atlanta, Georgia,
- 1:48Speaker 1: joined by Austin Riley Third Basement for the Atlanta Braves.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Thanks for having me. You guys, beat you guys, beat
- 1:56Speaker 1: our man Pete last night. Bad. That's all bad. You
- 2:00Speaker 1: got You weren't like it seemed like you just like
- 2:02Speaker 1: parked your car and came in there and got a
- 2:05Speaker 1: nice hit. Yeah. I mean, um, we needed that one.
- 2:11Speaker 1: I mean, the racist is tough. They've you know, the
- 2:14Speaker 1: Mets are a really good squad. Um they've had a
- 2:16Speaker 1: really good season and and you know we're we're trying
- 2:19Speaker 1: to win a division and and you know, this is
- 2:21Speaker 1: what September baseball is all about. It's I mean, it's
- 2:24Speaker 1: it's about those those fights um with it within the division.
- 2:28Speaker 1: And and you know last night was luckily it was
- 2:32Speaker 1: on our side, but pe got two more against him.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And you know, any anything can happen. Explain to me, like, um,
- 2:39Speaker 1: explain me like I'm five years old, which is about
- 2:42Speaker 1: where I'm at with baseball knowledge for sure. Okay, so
- 2:48Speaker 1: lastly you guys won handily. Well, I mean in the end,
- 2:54Speaker 1: someone could have liked last inning is a little hairy.
- 2:56Speaker 1: But and and uh just the amber we just met him,
- 3:01Speaker 1: uh Tyler, he was milking it out at the plate.
- 3:07Speaker 1: Bases were loaded. I was like, wow, this is like,
- 3:09Speaker 1: you know, could it could change in a heartbeat? Oh yeah,
- 3:12Speaker 1: like one hit could have been that you guys would
- 3:14Speaker 1: have been you guys would have been losing off. Yeah yeah.
- 3:17Speaker 1: What do you do when when that's going on? You
- 3:19Speaker 1: do you look? I mean, oh yeah, you definitely you
- 3:21Speaker 1: gotta you gotta play the whole situations um in your head.
- 3:25Speaker 1: I mean you know that's yeah, you know, bases loaded
- 3:29Speaker 1: up by three, you know, one like I said, one
- 3:31Speaker 1: swinging back could could put us down by one. Um.
- 3:35Speaker 1: But you know, having Kindley up there, you know the
- 3:37Speaker 1: career that he's had, I mean he's he's one of
- 3:39Speaker 1: the best closers in the game. You know, you know
- 3:42Speaker 1: in baseball, it's been around, I mean he so you
- 3:45Speaker 1: definitely have a trust in him, no, no doubt, um
- 3:49Speaker 1: and and luckily it was he was able to slam
- 3:52Speaker 1: the door. Well, so, now here's the part you gotta
- 3:55Speaker 1: explaining to me, like I'm five, okay, you guys are
- 4:00Speaker 1: you can both head of the playoffs, But there's a
- 4:05Speaker 1: You have a three game series, correct, So whoever whoever
- 4:10Speaker 1: would win the the the advantage of winning the series
- 4:13Speaker 1: is just that you get a break. Correct, So right
- 4:15Speaker 1: now we've so right now, obviously it's tied now, but
- 4:19Speaker 1: say if the Mets were to to win the division,
- 4:22Speaker 1: they would get a You basically missed the wild Whoever
- 4:24Speaker 1: wins the division, you missed the wild card. So if say,
- 4:28Speaker 1: if we were to to lose, we would uh in
- 4:32Speaker 1: the season in Miami on Wednesday, have an off day
- 4:35Speaker 1: on Thursday, and then we would play the wild card Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
- 4:38Speaker 1: And then if whoever wins the division, that you would
- 4:42Speaker 1: get like that five day break, and there's and then
- 4:45Speaker 1: you have fewer games separating you from the finality of it.
- 4:50Speaker 1: All separating you from the championship. You have you have
- 4:52Speaker 1: fewer opportunities to get knocked out. Correct. So it's like
- 4:56Speaker 1: you got the wild card n LDS and l yes,
- 5:01Speaker 1: and then the World Series. So you know, if you
- 5:04Speaker 1: make it all the way to the World Series, you're
- 5:05Speaker 1: playing until November seven. Um. So it's it actually is
- 5:09Speaker 1: a there's a lot of downtime, but at the same time,
- 5:12Speaker 1: it like flies but going through it last year, Um,
- 5:15Speaker 1: the playoffs fly by. Um. But it's just like like
- 5:19Speaker 1: right now, so we're tied right now, say if we
- 5:22Speaker 1: were so we got three games after after these two games, um,
- 5:26Speaker 1: and say if we tie, then it goes to the
- 5:29Speaker 1: best record against each other. So say if say, if
- 5:34Speaker 1: we were to tie like straight up to end the season, um,
- 5:39Speaker 1: and then then it would go but who who won
- 5:42Speaker 1: the most games between us and the Mets, like out
- 5:44Speaker 1: of the whole season, and then that's who That's how
- 5:47Speaker 1: you decide the division. So UM, it gets a little
- 5:51Speaker 1: a little complicated at times. Um. Yeah, I wish I
- 5:54Speaker 1: was wishing it to be more clean. Ye oh yeah,
- 5:56Speaker 1: and now you wish you could like like the Super
- 5:58Speaker 1: bowls clean. Yeah. Now that it's just like it's just
- 6:03Speaker 1: like even like minor like you got the minor leagues,
- 6:04Speaker 1: you got through. I went through six systems before I
- 6:07Speaker 1: got to the big leagues. It's like you played for
- 6:09Speaker 1: six years before you even get the opportunity at the
- 6:11Speaker 1: big leagues. It's just baseball is complicated. That's the only
- 6:14Speaker 1: way to put it. Yeah, but you came up like
- 6:18Speaker 1: through the ranks. So man, I you know, it was
- 6:21Speaker 1: fortunate enough to to kind of go through pretty quick. Um,
- 6:25Speaker 1: you know. And and just like I said, I had
- 6:27Speaker 1: a lot of the organization gave me every opportunity and
- 6:31Speaker 1: in the books to to grow my game and and succeed. Um.
- 6:37Speaker 1: So I mean, like I said, I've been been very fortunate.
- 6:40Speaker 1: And Austin played for one of the best minor league
- 6:43Speaker 1: team names. He played for the Halinas for a little bit.
- 6:46Speaker 1: So that's the Fall League. That's another like. And so
- 6:49Speaker 1: there's a league that, um that they do that's not
- 6:54Speaker 1: affiliated with any organization. So it's they call it the
- 6:57Speaker 1: Arizona Fall League. Um. It happens the month of November. Uh,
- 7:03Speaker 1: it's in it's in Arizona at the their the Springs
- 7:07Speaker 1: Tining complexes out there and each team it sends like
- 7:10Speaker 1: two or three guys from each squad and they go
- 7:13Speaker 1: play together. Um, and you know you play like I
- 7:16Speaker 1: think it's like thirty games, super laid back. Um, but yeah,
- 7:21Speaker 1: that's it's not an affiliate or anything, but um it is.
- 7:24Speaker 1: It's a different type of type of league. But it's
- 7:27Speaker 1: it's fun. You know what we're talking about last night?
- 7:28Speaker 1: Do you do you get when you hear take me
- 7:32Speaker 1: out to the ballpark? What's that song? How's it going? Okay,
- 7:37Speaker 1: I'll give five bucks. Any one this room can tell
- 7:39Speaker 1: me who wrote that. I don't even know it. Keep
- 7:43Speaker 1: you when you hear it? Do you get stirred up?
- 7:49Speaker 1: I think it gets played so much and just kind
- 7:52Speaker 1: of tune it out a little bit. This thing is
- 7:55Speaker 1: everybody got up to sing and Krian I was like,
- 7:58Speaker 1: why aren't you singing? As? I just don't having them. Yeah,
- 8:00Speaker 1: it's like seventh any stretch, that's what they play. Um,
- 8:04Speaker 1: you're here for a hundred sixty two day or games.
- 8:06Speaker 1: It's like, all right, nice, let's get today thinning. Albert
- 8:11Speaker 1: von Albert von Tilser wrote many hit songs. Let me
- 8:18Speaker 1: tell you something, I'm a big Von Tills in your head.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Let me tell you something. Here's some more of his hits.
- 8:23Speaker 1: You're ready for this, Put on your slippers and fill
- 8:27Speaker 1: your pipe. You're not going bye by tonight. That's the
- 8:30Speaker 1: Eric von tilt That was a von Tilser song. Um,
- 8:34Speaker 1: he's got something, He's got. Here's here's another one of
- 8:37Speaker 1: his hits, Oh how she could yackie hackey wicki wacky.
- 8:46Speaker 1: This is a family show. See here's here's another one
- 8:49Speaker 1: of his hits, My cuties due at two to two,
- 8:55Speaker 1: so at one. If that's a m or p M,
- 8:59Speaker 1: his cutis do at um. Another one of his hits
- 9:05Speaker 1: is wait Till You get them up in the air Boys.
- 9:11Speaker 1: It's some interesting one. But take Me Out of the
- 9:17Speaker 1: Ball Game was listed a number eight on the list
- 9:20Speaker 1: of songs of the Century. Mm hmm, so Christ, next
- 9:25Speaker 1: time you see me, nat take me out the ball game.
- 9:27Speaker 1: It's just you know, I'll sing some volgarty you're wishing
- 9:33Speaker 1: it was the what was it yuck any whacky? I
- 9:37Speaker 1: thought that I was like I was. I was hoping
- 9:40Speaker 1: that they would play Oh how she could yucky hacky
- 9:44Speaker 1: wicky wacky boo. But there's some people in this room
- 9:50Speaker 1: for who take me out to the ball game tugs
- 9:53Speaker 1: on the heart strings a bit. Definitely did for me. Hey,
- 9:57Speaker 1: let me let me ask you, let me ask you
- 9:58Speaker 1: another question. They we're gonna we gotta cover off off
- 10:00Speaker 1: some stuff. But you so with the whole thing, do
- 10:04Speaker 1: you ever feel like it's a it's a it's a um.
- 10:06Speaker 1: It's like a slap in the face of a deer
- 10:08Speaker 1: hunter such as yourself, that everything ends on November seven. Yeah,
- 10:14Speaker 1: like that you could be like, let's start a week earlier.
- 10:17Speaker 1: We'll start everything a week earlier, right, and then I'll
- 10:20Speaker 1: hunt the first week in November for white tails and
- 10:22Speaker 1: then you know, yeah, it's it's tough like last year. Um,
- 10:26Speaker 1: even like you know because our regular season ends October three, um,
- 10:32Speaker 1: and last year before we went to the playoffs, like
- 10:35Speaker 1: if we like one, we were not even above five
- 10:39Speaker 1: hundred at the break, like it was. It was a
- 10:42Speaker 1: rough season last year, and like we just got hot
- 10:44Speaker 1: at the right time, like took off. So I had
- 10:47Speaker 1: like three hunts planned in October that I was just
- 10:53Speaker 1: like what my buddy Tyler, and like it's just like
- 10:56Speaker 1: one after other that I was having, like I am
- 10:58Speaker 1: canceling this one where we made another week cancel this
- 11:01Speaker 1: and we made another week, canceled that one, made another week. Um,
- 11:05Speaker 1: all all worth it. Um, it wouldn't change it for
- 11:08Speaker 1: the world. Throw that out there, so no one's mad
- 11:12Speaker 1: at me. Um. But now it's um, you know, as
- 11:17Speaker 1: much as I wanna, you know, be there for opening Day,
- 11:20Speaker 1: I got the best of both the worlds. It's like
- 11:23Speaker 1: as soon as baseball ends, I go right and hunting
- 11:26Speaker 1: seasons in it and I'm in it until it's time
- 11:29Speaker 1: to go back to baseball. But but for for you
- 11:33Speaker 1: like to hunt turkeys, I mean you gotta be totally
- 11:34Speaker 1: boned on turkey hunting, right, Yeah, that's hard. I've never
- 11:37Speaker 1: never killed an Eastern. I've killed two asiola's all there
- 11:42Speaker 1: in spring training. Oh so well played, right Yeah. So
- 11:47Speaker 1: it's like all my buddies back home, give me, give
- 11:49Speaker 1: me crap from like you didn't even kill an Eastern,
- 11:51Speaker 1: And I'm like, I don't get the chance, Like, give
- 11:54Speaker 1: me a break. But uh, when you are when you
- 11:59Speaker 1: talk about when you when you're you have a hunt
- 12:01Speaker 1: playing and obviously you want to you know you want
- 12:04Speaker 1: to win, no doubt, but do you, Um, is there
- 12:07Speaker 1: ever any part of your head? Right? It's like, man,
- 12:12Speaker 1: I was really looking forward to going on that trip.
- 12:14Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, of course, like you know my passion.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I absolutely love to hunt white tells um so anytime,
- 12:22Speaker 1: especially like never been much out of the state growing up.
- 12:26Speaker 1: So I've I've killed you know, I've killed a deer
- 12:28Speaker 1: in in um Texas, Nebraska, and Louisiana. And one of
- 12:33Speaker 1: those trips that I had to cancel was at the
- 12:35Speaker 1: Griggsbies in Illinois and that was like growing up, that
- 12:38Speaker 1: was like my dream to go to Illinois. So that
- 12:40Speaker 1: that one hurt a little bit, um But like I said,
- 12:43Speaker 1: there's there's always other opportunities, um for you for growing
- 12:49Speaker 1: up in Mississippi. Was that like the holy landed deer
- 12:51Speaker 1: hunting was looking at Illinois, Illinois, Kansas, like just going
- 12:55Speaker 1: up there like that was like my that's my bucket
- 12:58Speaker 1: list is to go up there and some some big
- 13:00Speaker 1: white tails. So what, um hold are you right now?
- 13:05Speaker 1: And then so in in fifteen years like an old
- 13:10Speaker 1: you're an old ass ball player at fort you right?
- 13:13Speaker 1: Oh yeah, like most guys are out thirty five ish.
- 13:18Speaker 1: So um A side note, as soon as I'm done
- 13:22Speaker 1: with that, I'm chasing Elk. In September when the bugle in.
- 13:26Speaker 1: So that's that's another bucket list. So but as but
- 13:29Speaker 1: there's lead at the end of the tunnel. I mean
- 13:31Speaker 1: not that the tunnel is that dark, but I'm just saying, yeah, yeah,
- 13:36Speaker 1: like the way the thing, that's why I don't comply.
- 13:38Speaker 1: I got plenty of opportunities because you were you were
- 13:40Speaker 1: on a professional track in your teens, right, so it's
- 13:43Speaker 1: like you've had a career and you'll still be unless
- 13:46Speaker 1: you do something horrible to your knees, right, I'll be
- 13:49Speaker 1: able to just tear it up. Yeah, I'll be able
- 13:51Speaker 1: to hunt as much as I want. So that's like I
- 13:53Speaker 1: I said, you don't not every day you get to
- 13:55Speaker 1: go chase the World Series. So I'm taking taking Yeah,
- 14:00Speaker 1: Like I said, as much as I love hunting, I
- 14:02Speaker 1: wouldn't would not trade and change that for the world. Yeah,
- 14:05Speaker 1: I got it. Okay, Austin's got all he's got limited time,
- 14:09Speaker 1: he's got stuff going on, he's got a big game tonight.
- 14:11Speaker 1: We're gonna get into some other stuff and then we're
- 14:13Speaker 1: gonna get back in with him in a little bit.
- 14:16Speaker 1: All right, here's here's the thing we got to talk about.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And sometimes something gets so talked about I don't want
- 14:20Speaker 1: to talk about it because what's there to say? The
- 14:27Speaker 1: who like the fact that that that I'm trying to
- 14:33Speaker 1: put this here, Kran Why did you determine that that
- 14:37Speaker 1: we didn't need to talk about it because everyone's already
- 14:40Speaker 1: talked about it so exactly as you said, it's true,
- 14:45Speaker 1: but like, what what more is there to say? Like,
- 14:47Speaker 1: I just felt like the news would make its rounds
- 14:50Speaker 1: and all of the various circles that it's flying around,
- 14:54Speaker 1: and that's it. We didn't need a touch on it. Well,
- 14:56Speaker 1: I want I didn't want to talk about it, but
- 14:58Speaker 1: now you really did. Then it came to be that
- 15:02Speaker 1: I realized I had a dissenting view. I had a
- 15:06Speaker 1: dissenting view from the rest of America and thought we
- 15:09Speaker 1: and I wanted to talk about it. When you google
- 15:12Speaker 1: this story, the first results are npr tmz l A times.
- 15:18Speaker 1: So when you say everyone's talked about it, literally everyone.
- 15:21Speaker 1: So I don't mean like everyone that I hang out with,
- 15:23Speaker 1: I mean like America. Yeah, could tell tell tell us
- 15:27Speaker 1: just to bring people up to speed, Spencer, do you
- 15:29Speaker 1: mind telling the story? Sure? This? Uh, this sort of
- 15:32Speaker 1: like entered our radar about a week ago, where screenshots
- 15:37Speaker 1: started floating around every piece of social media, from Facebook
- 15:41Speaker 1: to Reddity, Instagram, Twitter, etcetera. Where it was a woman
- 15:45Speaker 1: who posted on Facebook, uh five photos holding a skinned
- 15:50Speaker 1: out critter and this is what the Facebook post says.
- 15:53Speaker 1: It says, So this morning I set out for a
- 15:56Speaker 1: solo predator hunt for a fall black bear. However, I
- 16:00Speaker 1: got the opportunity to take another predator wolf pup. Two
- 16:04Speaker 1: was a great feeling to text my man and say
- 16:08Speaker 1: I just smoked a wolf pup hashtag first wolf, hashtag
- 16:12Speaker 1: one less predator Montana. Okay, can you back up and
- 16:17Speaker 1: give it to me a sentence at a time. What
- 16:19Speaker 1: here's the problem. There's the punctuation, So okay, break it on.
- 16:23Speaker 1: If that sounded clunky, it's because out of nowhere, break
- 16:26Speaker 1: it up, break it up in the same fashion and
- 16:28Speaker 1: hit me with a not a sentence, but a thought
- 16:30Speaker 1: at a time. Let me try her. So this morning
- 16:33Speaker 1: I set out for a solo predator hunt for a
- 16:35Speaker 1: fall black bear. Great, however, great, I've done the uh.
- 16:42Speaker 1: I've done the same thing. However, I got the opportunity
- 16:47Speaker 1: to take another predator, wolf pup. Okay, here's where things start. Okay, great, great,
- 16:55Speaker 1: she lives in a state where she there's in a
- 17:00Speaker 1: state that has a long wolf season. And I'll point
- 17:04Speaker 1: out has wolf quotas the states divided into seven regions.
- 17:09Speaker 1: Each region has its own quota. There's a store, there's
- 17:13Speaker 1: a total statewide quota. Uh, she has uh the necessary permit. Okay,
- 17:25Speaker 1: nothing of foul now the pop part um hits it
- 17:36Speaker 1: on the nose, but so, okay, great, okay, go on.
- 17:40Speaker 1: And the last thing says two was a great feeling
- 17:45Speaker 1: to text my man and say I just smoked a
- 17:48Speaker 1: wolf pup. Okay. So has a great relationship with her boyfriend,
- 17:54Speaker 1: excited to share details of her life with him. Used
- 17:59Speaker 1: they use the word choice, the euphemism for killed. But
- 18:05Speaker 1: let's say she had said got text my man, I
- 18:10Speaker 1: got my first wolf pop okay. And then that's followed
- 18:17Speaker 1: by hashtag first wolf, hashtag one last predator Montana. Yeah, okay,
- 18:29Speaker 1: I don't know that the motivation is one less predator.
- 18:33Speaker 1: I think the moti you know, the motivation is like
- 18:36Speaker 1: you want to go hunting, you want to get a wolf.
- 18:37Speaker 1: I don't know that people really if you wanted to
- 18:42Speaker 1: wake up any at any given day and do something
- 18:47Speaker 1: for wildlife, in your state, okay, and in your in
- 18:53Speaker 1: your soul, your your soul goal is to benefit wildlife
- 18:58Speaker 1: in your state or benefit ungulates in your state. I
- 19:03Speaker 1: don't think that hunting predators is the best I don't
- 19:07Speaker 1: think that hunting wolves is the best use of your time.
- 19:10Speaker 1: I think it would be that you would volunteer for
- 19:12Speaker 1: the day for Rocky Mountain Helt Foundation. You'd volunteer for
- 19:16Speaker 1: the day for mule of your foundation. You would go
- 19:19Speaker 1: to work that day and take all the money you
- 19:22Speaker 1: made at work that day and give it to a
- 19:25Speaker 1: habitat organization. It's similar to I think it's similar like
- 19:31Speaker 1: let's say you wanted to go shoot prairie dogs, um,
- 19:35Speaker 1: but then you say like, oh, I'm going to help
- 19:37Speaker 1: the rancher out. You know. I think it's mostly you
- 19:42Speaker 1: want to go shoot prairie dogs. If you went to
- 19:43Speaker 1: a ranch, if you went to a rancher's house and said,
- 19:46Speaker 1: you know, today I woke up and I just wanted
- 19:48Speaker 1: to help you out. What what is the thing I
- 19:53Speaker 1: could do most to help you out. I don't think
- 19:54Speaker 1: that's what he's gonna say. I don't think that's what
- 19:58Speaker 1: he's gonna say. Stretch a wire he's gonna say like, oh, dude,
- 20:02Speaker 1: you know what I'm dreading. You know what I don't
- 20:06Speaker 1: want to do? Throw square bales. Yeah, it's just so
- 20:10Speaker 1: I think there's a little bit of a there's a
- 20:12Speaker 1: little bit of mental masturbation that happens with people where
- 20:16Speaker 1: you are. You get into where you're there's a thing
- 20:19Speaker 1: you want to do, and you have perfectly legitimate reasons
- 20:22Speaker 1: to do it, but you dress it up as though
- 20:23Speaker 1: it's like somewhat altruistic. You know. Altruistic would be that
- 20:30Speaker 1: you went that you had the day off, went to
- 20:34Speaker 1: your boss and says, I want to work today, I
- 20:37Speaker 1: want to do over time today, whatever. And then I'm
- 20:40Speaker 1: just gonna and I'm gonna take the entire pay for
- 20:42Speaker 1: today and and donate it to a wildlife habitat organization
- 20:47Speaker 1: that would you know. So there it's a little fishy there.
- 20:50Speaker 1: I mean, this story gets a lot more fishy, but
- 20:51Speaker 1: up to this point, I'm just laying out like what, Okay,
- 20:55Speaker 1: the parts. Now, here's the plot so far. Maybe a
- 20:59Speaker 1: little bit of men my masturbation, but not offensive. Here's
- 21:02Speaker 1: here's the plot. Twist and wide. You know, TMZ and
- 21:05Speaker 1: NPR are talking about this the five photos she posted
- 21:08Speaker 1: are not with a wolf with a husky. Yeah, that's
- 21:12Speaker 1: where husky. That's where we enter into a problem. A
- 21:14Speaker 1: dead husky and a a skinned out husky. She rugged
- 21:18Speaker 1: it out. Yes, Now, if it was a lab her,
- 21:26Speaker 1: a beagle, her, a hound, I would be more inclined
- 21:33Speaker 1: to be like, what the right, more inclined. You're you're
- 21:37Speaker 1: already given her too much credit. Listen, it's not as
- 21:43Speaker 1: I understand. As I understand that she was way back
- 21:47Speaker 1: in the mountains and someone had dumped a pack, so
- 21:55Speaker 1: to speak, someone had dumped a pack of like sled dogs, right,
- 22:02Speaker 1: had dumped a pack of sleddogs out in the middle
- 22:04Speaker 1: of nowhere just to get just to get rid of
- 22:07Speaker 1: them and dump them. So that that Facebook post was
- 22:10Speaker 1: on Saturday, and it had done its thing. It was
- 22:12Speaker 1: all over by Sunday, and and I feel like we're
- 22:15Speaker 1: all getting texts of it like is this real? This
- 22:17Speaker 1: is a joke, right, and things like that. I think
- 22:20Speaker 1: on Mondays when the Sheriff's office for Flathead County put
- 22:23Speaker 1: out a statement, that's when they gave those extra details
- 22:26Speaker 1: that a pack of dogs were dumped in the wilderness.
- 22:30Speaker 1: And I think up until that point, eleven of those
- 22:32Speaker 1: dogs had been recovered, and it was like, what nineteen
- 22:35Speaker 1: or something that got dumbed. Well, a different Facebook post
- 22:39Speaker 1: from this woman who shot the husky, she said that
- 22:42Speaker 1: there were nineteen dogs that were dropped off and that
- 22:45Speaker 1: she was eleven miles in the back country. So people
- 22:48Speaker 1: had already kind of like formed their opinions by this point,
- 22:51Speaker 1: by by like the three days two days later. You
- 22:54Speaker 1: know when the sheriff's office has a statement, I think
- 22:58Speaker 1: that you could. You know when you go to get
- 23:04Speaker 1: if you go to bear hunting the state that has
- 23:05Speaker 1: black bears and grizzlies in the lower forty eight, your
- 23:09Speaker 1: state agency is probably gonna make you go do a
- 23:11Speaker 1: thing where you have to look at pictures of You
- 23:15Speaker 1: have to look at pictures of bears in various contexts
- 23:20Speaker 1: and pass the test about how well you can distinguish
- 23:22Speaker 1: a black bear from a grizzly. It is not an
- 23:27Speaker 1: easy test. I'm not saying, I'm not even kind of
- 23:29Speaker 1: saying it's the same thing as the husky, no wolf,
- 23:31Speaker 1: but placed in a certain context where the last thing
- 23:38Speaker 1: on your mind is one thing, I think that it
- 23:40Speaker 1: would be let me put out, Let let me tell
- 23:43Speaker 1: you a story years ago. We went down when I
- 23:47Speaker 1: was in school, me and some me and my and uh.
- 23:54Speaker 1: When I when I was in school in Montana. My
- 23:56Speaker 1: brother Danny was in school at Auburn. We went down
- 24:01Speaker 1: to hunt the Tuskegee National Forest, Okay, and it was
- 24:05Speaker 1: a great time. We just hunted public land, had really
- 24:08Speaker 1: no idea what we're doing. Everybody got a buck. I
- 24:10Speaker 1: got a buck. Who's a spike that was so small
- 24:13Speaker 1: we lax. I cut it off with a hacks on.
- 24:15Speaker 1: I was able to carry its rack around in my
- 24:16Speaker 1: shirt pocket. Caught a real thin little slice. You still
- 24:22Speaker 1: have that rack? No, I wish I did. Man. I
- 24:24Speaker 1: literally went home with that rack in my shirt pocket.
- 24:27Speaker 1: But it was a legal box either way. I remember
- 24:30Speaker 1: one point when I was walking down this road through
- 24:34Speaker 1: Tuskee National Forests and look down a cut line and
- 24:39Speaker 1: hit the deck because there's a deer. But once I
- 24:43Speaker 1: looked through my skulle, it was some damn big dog.
- 24:46Speaker 1: But if I was walking down a street or a
- 24:50Speaker 1: sidewalk through a neighborhood and I saw an object step
- 24:55Speaker 1: into a cut line, I wouldn't have thought or step
- 24:58Speaker 1: into an alley. I wouldn't have thought there's a deer. Yeah,
- 25:01Speaker 1: you think there's because the context of where you're at
- 25:05Speaker 1: influences what you see. And according to this woman, she
- 25:08Speaker 1: was eleven miles in the back country, which I don't know.
- 25:11Speaker 1: Maybe she might have been ten miles up a logging road.
- 25:14Speaker 1: And Hi, I don't really know what that means. I
- 25:16Speaker 1: I absolutely understand it. But I think one thing we
- 25:19Speaker 1: should talk about is that there is no like So
- 25:21Speaker 1: this was a domesticated dog who was dumped into the
- 25:25Speaker 1: woods and she rugged it out. Well, here's the thing,
- 25:28Speaker 1: what do you There's no way this this dog probably
- 25:31Speaker 1: saw human for the first time, and however and was
- 25:32Speaker 1: probably probably ran up super friendly, like oh my god,
- 25:36Speaker 1: I don't know. I've been says it ran up in
- 25:39Speaker 1: in like growling and snarling. I've been out Kyle hunting
- 25:43Speaker 1: before and called in dogs with a collar on. But
- 25:47Speaker 1: when they hear that kyo fight sound plan, they come
- 25:51Speaker 1: running in ready to you know, funck something up. They're
- 25:54Speaker 1: ready to fight. And I mean I have like personal
- 26:00Speaker 1: called in a husky while Kyle hunting, and in that
- 26:03Speaker 1: context I can depth oh yeah yeah with a collar on,
- 26:07Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I called it in a neighbors German shepherd.
- 26:10Speaker 1: One time. It can happen. Definitely. I didn't shoot it. No,
- 26:15Speaker 1: I did not shoot it. I am not in any way.
- 26:18Speaker 1: I'm not in anyway. I'm not in any ways saying
- 26:21Speaker 1: it could have happened to anyone. I don't think it
- 26:23Speaker 1: could have happened anyone. I just think that the criticism
- 26:31Speaker 1: um is a little carried away, and I think that
- 26:35Speaker 1: it's not. It doesn't strike me as like this horrible
- 26:41Speaker 1: doesn't strike me as this horribly negligent, egregious thing. It
- 26:44Speaker 1: was like it was a mistake, but it wasn't if
- 26:47Speaker 1: it was a lab, like I said, if it was
- 26:49Speaker 1: a lab or a beagle, you'd be what. But there
- 26:53Speaker 1: are black wolves, there are white wolves, there are mixed
- 26:56Speaker 1: color wolves. We recently saw a pack of hunt in Alaska.
- 27:01Speaker 1: We saw a pack of fourteen, all black wolves. I
- 27:04Speaker 1: didn't know that could happen. Dang, fourteen solid black wolves.
- 27:10Speaker 1: And when you're looking at him from a long ways
- 27:11Speaker 1: way through a spot and scope, you would be like,
- 27:13Speaker 1: holy sh it, there's a bunch of black dogs running
- 27:15Speaker 1: along because they're just black. M So it just it
- 27:23Speaker 1: doesn't strike me. It just doesn't strike me as insane.
- 27:25Speaker 1: As it's striking everybody else. And I think there's on
- 27:28Speaker 1: people's behalf. There's like a shipload of moral posturing. And
- 27:31Speaker 1: I think the most of the people that are most
- 27:33Speaker 1: mad would have been just as mad if it had
- 27:36Speaker 1: been a wolf. And somehow, weirdly, when a woman does something,
- 27:40Speaker 1: it pisces people off more than when a guy does it.
- 27:43Speaker 1: That's true. And even though she's not gonna face any
- 27:44Speaker 1: legal trouble, this is gonna follow her around for the
- 27:47Speaker 1: rest of her life because it if a woman does something,
- 27:53Speaker 1: there's something about it that just makes even women hate
- 27:57Speaker 1: him more. You know, women, men, all right, they're not
- 28:04Speaker 1: given because it's like because she did this awful thing
- 28:06Speaker 1: and tried, thought she killed the wolf, try to kill
- 28:08Speaker 1: a wolf, it was a dog, It's like they're gonna
- 28:11Speaker 1: pile onto her harder. Yeah. I think it's the sheer,
- 28:13Speaker 1: just brazen confidence of that Facebook post to that's that's
- 28:16Speaker 1: adding a lot of feel and my but my context
- 28:21Speaker 1: there would be then that it is a genuine mistake, right,
- 28:24Speaker 1: that it's just an individual made a mistake. Yeah, And
- 28:28Speaker 1: a lot of people have like this disneyfication of like
- 28:32Speaker 1: what a wolf would look like, right, don't. I don't
- 28:35Speaker 1: think people even always really know exactly what they look at.
- 28:42Speaker 1: The people that are piste would have been pissed if
- 28:45Speaker 1: it was a wolf. Yeah, totally. The news coverage you
- 28:49Speaker 1: see of this, it always this is now like a
- 28:52Speaker 1: launching pad to talk about like the delisting wolves and
- 28:56Speaker 1: things like that. You see that in all these new
- 28:58Speaker 1: sources that are covering this story. It becomes it becomes
- 29:01Speaker 1: not that a woman shot at husky. It talks about
- 29:03Speaker 1: like the protection of wolves in the Rocky Mountains. It's
- 29:06Speaker 1: a referendum. It becomes a referendum on whether it's the state,
- 29:12Speaker 1: uh should be love to manage the resource. Yeah, so
- 29:14Speaker 1: it's like we shouldn't have wolves delisted because otherwise huskies
- 29:18Speaker 1: are getting shot. Husky get shot. We need to add
- 29:20Speaker 1: some more clear need to add some more clarity to
- 29:25Speaker 1: the story. Though. So she had posted that like on
- 29:26Speaker 1: the weekend, right, and the sheriff's office releases the statement
- 29:30Speaker 1: a few days later. Um, and then she puts a
- 29:33Speaker 1: follow up post on Facebook, and you had talked about
- 29:36Speaker 1: how she had shot it because it was like barking
- 29:39Speaker 1: at her or whatever. Here's what her post says, This
- 29:42Speaker 1: is just part of it, It says I would still
- 29:46Speaker 1: have shot it because it was aggressive and coming directly
- 29:49Speaker 1: for me. So that that was part of her story
- 29:52Speaker 1: that came out later. Uh, that the husky you know,
- 29:55Speaker 1: was posturing as though I was going to attack her. Hm,
- 30:01Speaker 1: I mean I can't buy that that. I don't have
- 30:05Speaker 1: problem with that. It's like dogs. We call it burger barking,
- 30:12Speaker 1: like coyotes do it. Dogs do it when they first
- 30:14Speaker 1: see a stranger. Hell, my dog does it through the
- 30:16Speaker 1: window of the truck, like she see someone walking in
- 30:19Speaker 1: the dark. Right, hackles go up. It's like it's yourself.
- 30:25Speaker 1: It's a convenient it's a convenient detail. I don't know.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I don't know if it's true. I could see why
- 30:33Speaker 1: someone in this situation would feel the need to um
- 30:40Speaker 1: try to get themselves out of the death threats and
- 30:44Speaker 1: right like I can see why someone under great dear
- 30:47Speaker 1: rest might stretch the truth. But in and of itself,
- 30:52Speaker 1: that is not an outrageous claim. No, it's not. If
- 30:55Speaker 1: someone told me. If if if my wife was on
- 30:58Speaker 1: a hike with the kids and she came back and said,
- 31:02Speaker 1: we were way up so such and such place, and
- 31:04Speaker 1: some damn dog comes out of nowhere, barking and growling
- 31:07Speaker 1: at us. What I'd be like, you lie in right now.
- 31:10Speaker 1: It's like, Okay, that's like I can imagine that happened.
- 31:15Speaker 1: And there's a lot of places that I've hunted in
- 31:17Speaker 1: South Dakota, Wyoming, it's like you have a random straight
- 31:22Speaker 1: dog come through your decoy spread while you're out there,
- 31:26Speaker 1: and it's like, oh, that's that's not anybody's pet, that's
- 31:29Speaker 1: just a dog out roman doing its thing. We were
- 31:32Speaker 1: turkey hunting in a in a remote area of Montana,
- 31:35Speaker 1: I mean as remote as you can getting hunting. Turkey
- 31:37Speaker 1: hunting remote area Montagna. At one point I looked out
- 31:40Speaker 1: across this large patch of open ground and I'm like,
- 31:43Speaker 1: what in the world is that. I couldn't tell what
- 31:45Speaker 1: was going on. As we got closer to investigated, it
- 31:47Speaker 1: was a domestic dog dragging a deer. Domestic dog dragging
- 31:53Speaker 1: a dead deer through the fields. Yep, very similar story.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Me and you remember Danny Morrison. Oh yeah, Um, me
- 32:04Speaker 1: and Danny were were turkey hunting in South Dakota and uh,
- 32:09Speaker 1: Danny was trying to get on this one gobbler and
- 32:11Speaker 1: then this thing just disappeared. A scene wasn't out in
- 32:14Speaker 1: the field anymore. And uh he pops up over this
- 32:18Speaker 1: little ridge to get a glimpse. Put byos up and
- 32:22Speaker 1: there's this stray dog that had killed this turkey, just
- 32:24Speaker 1: out in an open field. Yeah, eating on a turkey
- 32:27Speaker 1: out in the middle of grass pasture. You know. Here's
- 32:31Speaker 1: another quote from her follow up Facebook post. It's hiss.
- 32:34Speaker 1: My safety was top priority. This animal was growling, howling
- 32:38Speaker 1: and coming at me like he was going to eat me. Okay,
- 32:44Speaker 1: I don't know, I've never met the individual. I don't
- 32:46Speaker 1: know that that's true, but that is not outrageous. Yeah,
- 32:52Speaker 1: and even if it's not true, like you say, someone
- 32:54Speaker 1: told an outrageous lie, that might be a lie. It
- 32:58Speaker 1: was not an outrageous lie. Well, I mean either way,
- 33:01Speaker 1: Like you can see how she's just trying to hit
- 33:05Speaker 1: completely completely understanding. It's just the yeah, and you've you've
- 33:09Speaker 1: you've kind of pulled me over to the other side
- 33:11Speaker 1: to but it's just the Facebook that the complete kind
- 33:14Speaker 1: of her first post is like I smoked. I smoked
- 33:17Speaker 1: this wolf. I'm gonna tell my husband. And the next
- 33:19Speaker 1: post is like it was growling and snarling and charging
- 33:21Speaker 1: at me. I had no other choice. You know, it's
- 33:23Speaker 1: just kind of it's it's convenient. She's under tremendous dear
- 33:27Speaker 1: rest um. And again just we're not summed up yet
- 33:32Speaker 1: because I wanted we we need to hear the her
- 33:35Speaker 1: boyfriend to say. And and here I respect the um.
- 33:42Speaker 1: You know you know that Tammy want to stand by
- 33:44Speaker 1: your man. This is like stand by your woman, woman, woman.
- 33:53Speaker 1: Now you're you're referring to a follow up Facebook post
- 33:57Speaker 1: by the husband, and in that face post, one of
- 34:00Speaker 1: the details that he says is that she has not
- 34:03Speaker 1: been filed for any charges. Well you read the whole
- 34:05Speaker 1: she will not be filed for any charges, but the
- 34:08Speaker 1: sheriff's office UM says that they are investigating the thing.
- 34:14Speaker 1: She's not gonna get in trouble. She shouldn't, man like.
- 34:19Speaker 1: There were other claims which I don't know how people
- 34:22Speaker 1: came upon these that she addressed in the Facebook post
- 34:24Speaker 1: that she didn't have a wolf tag. She did have
- 34:26Speaker 1: a wolf tag. She says she has a wolf tag,
- 34:28Speaker 1: but I don't see anything in the sheriff's office statement
- 34:31Speaker 1: saying that she did. It just says it's under no
- 34:34Speaker 1: I think it was clarified that she had a wolf
- 34:36Speaker 1: taga and it kind of doesn't matter. A lot of
- 34:40Speaker 1: this stuff is this A lot of it's like hate
- 34:44Speaker 1: the game, not the player. Do you know what I'm saying?
- 34:49Speaker 1: People are mad because they would have been mad if
- 34:52Speaker 1: she shot the damn wolf. Uh. Phil, you know that
- 34:56Speaker 1: you have a little machine that bleeps out obscenities. You're
- 34:59Speaker 1: gonna need to get a new one because the one
- 35:00Speaker 1: you've gotten out is going to be worn out. It's
- 35:04Speaker 1: gonna be worn out. But I want you to very carefully.
- 35:06Speaker 1: Spencer's gonna read it, and I want you to very
- 35:09Speaker 1: carefully bleep the Incenti's out. And I think this will
- 35:11Speaker 1: make a phenomenal T shirt. This is gonna make me
- 35:15Speaker 1: blush and and like our last uh email T shirt,
- 35:19Speaker 1: this one lacks punctuation. But don't worry about because Phil
- 35:22Speaker 1: is gonna bleep it all out. No one will know
- 35:24Speaker 1: what it was that you said. That's right. Yeah, it's
- 35:26Speaker 1: just gonna sound like a mad lib when we're done,
- 35:28Speaker 1: where it's like insert. If we do a T shirt,
- 35:32Speaker 1: I don't know if we can about check copyright maybe
- 35:34Speaker 1: the individual, but it would be with all the like
- 35:37Speaker 1: dollar signs and asterix and stuff for when you do
- 35:39Speaker 1: a lot like the last. But here's an individual whose
- 35:46Speaker 1: girlfriend is getting death threats and here's his response. Yeah,
- 35:52Speaker 1: I don't even fault them for this. We're talking about
- 35:55Speaker 1: making a template that other people could use this for ready. Yeah,
- 36:00Speaker 1: any you mother talk all that you cause not one
- 36:04Speaker 1: of you mothers are tough enough to act on any
- 36:08Speaker 1: of your bullshit. Said, If so, come to my place
- 36:11Speaker 1: and I'll beat your myself. Yeah, my girlfriend was out
- 36:15Speaker 1: hunting and shot a dog that was dumped out in
- 36:18Speaker 1: the woods. No charges have been filed or will be
- 36:21Speaker 1: filed because no laws were broke. It was a dear
- 36:24Speaker 1: chasing feral dog on the wrong place at the wrong time.
- 36:29Speaker 1: So if you want to be a bunch of cry
- 36:31Speaker 1: baby sheep, keep going, because we really don't give two
- 36:37Speaker 1: fings about what's going on or what's being said. Mistakes happened,
- 36:42Speaker 1: big deal, you cry baby motherfuls. And for any other
- 36:46Speaker 1: hunters who want to talk saying it looks bad, well
- 36:51Speaker 1: it does, you stupid mother. But mistakes happened. So, like
- 36:55Speaker 1: I said, any you want to act on any of
- 36:58Speaker 1: these threats and bullshit, come up, because I got one
- 37:01Speaker 1: for you. Sure, I love I totally understand. I don't understand. Uh.
- 37:09Speaker 1: My favorite part is, like you all you understand it
- 37:11Speaker 1: looks bad, Well, yeah, it does. Owning their ship and
- 37:19Speaker 1: in their intention was not to do what ended up
- 37:24Speaker 1: being done. Strip away the strip away the passion, strip
- 37:28Speaker 1: away the passion? What what? What is what is left
- 37:30Speaker 1: when you strip away the passion? Well, we was my
- 37:33Speaker 1: girlfriend made a mistake. She shot a dog. It was
- 37:37Speaker 1: a dog out in the wild. It was a deer
- 37:39Speaker 1: eating dog. It was in the wrong place at the
- 37:41Speaker 1: wrong time. Sure, it looks bad. Mistakes happen, and no
- 37:45Speaker 1: laws are broken. That it's like, okay, strip away the passion.
- 37:50Speaker 1: And it's like you just aren't dealing with people who
- 37:52Speaker 1: are that. It's not like you're dealing with irrational people.
- 37:56Speaker 1: It was a mistake. This sounds kind of irrational because
- 38:00Speaker 1: it's infused, you know about infused with passion. Shawn's Duck
- 38:05Speaker 1: report minutes on that trying to move on. You are
- 38:12Speaker 1: right in that you are one of the only people
- 38:15Speaker 1: I've seen take this stance on the internet, whether they're
- 38:17Speaker 1: in the hunting community or not. That uh this was kosher. No, no, no,
- 38:22Speaker 1: I want you to now, I want you to do this.
- 38:24Speaker 1: I want you to tell me what my stance is,
- 38:26Speaker 1: because I want to make sure you're paying attention to
- 38:27Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Okay, I'm not being fair your stances
- 38:31Speaker 1: at she made a mistake and that it it could
- 38:33Speaker 1: happen to folks, and that that I think that much
- 38:39Speaker 1: of the anger is coming from people who have a
- 38:43Speaker 1: problem with something put in place by the state where
- 38:48Speaker 1: she lives, and they're deflecting that honor in in a
- 38:53Speaker 1: big way. You know, earlier I was saying is because
- 38:56Speaker 1: it's a girl. But if it was a dude to
- 38:58Speaker 1: be bad, I take that back. I take that part back.
- 39:04Speaker 1: They'd be pissed at a dude. Oh yeah, were you saying?
- 39:08Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I'm saying that like people kind of what
- 39:13Speaker 1: a woman does, like a woman goes to Africa and
- 39:16Speaker 1: get it's almost a little it's like, in a way,
- 39:19Speaker 1: it's a people experience it different. It's that whole Kendall Jones.
- 39:24Speaker 1: It's like because they're just like, you know, it's just
- 39:30Speaker 1: people feel it different. I agree it takes on like
- 39:34Speaker 1: a sexual that the hatred takes on like a sexual
- 39:37Speaker 1: violence kind of think in celt creeping in there a
- 39:40Speaker 1: little bit. I think if it were a dude, they
- 39:43Speaker 1: probably would have Well, I don't know how do I
- 39:46Speaker 1: quantify or qualify like worse, but I think the follow
- 39:51Speaker 1: up like a rabid dog and her dog was barking
- 39:54Speaker 1: or I felt intimidated, I was, you know, protecting myself.
- 39:57Speaker 1: I feel like something about that would not go over
- 40:01Speaker 1: as much if it were dude. Oh yeah, you're right,
- 40:05Speaker 1: there's something. There's something about that. Dude would have had
- 40:07Speaker 1: a harder time. A dude would have had a harder
- 40:09Speaker 1: time going down that path. Something you can't argue with, though,
- 40:13Speaker 1: is that it appears as though she did a very
- 40:15Speaker 1: good job of skinning out this husky. Great job, what's great?
- 40:19Speaker 1: Like it would have made for a very nice rug
- 40:21Speaker 1: if I I mean, I would get it, if if if,
- 40:23Speaker 1: I don't know if John Hayes would do it, but
- 40:25Speaker 1: I would put the bill to have it done and
- 40:28Speaker 1: just have to be like, hey, remember that whole deal.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Well there's that, and I don't think it's going to happen.
- 40:35Speaker 1: But how many people death threat, how many death I
- 40:42Speaker 1: think you're underestimating how passionate dog would I would if
- 40:45Speaker 1: I could get it, no matter what I could get it,
- 40:48Speaker 1: I would put it in the I would get it rugged.
- 40:50Speaker 1: I would get it rugged, and I would sell in
- 40:52Speaker 1: the auction house of oodities. No, that's a that's a sure.
- 40:56Speaker 1: I think I think conservation it would fetch a generous bid.
- 41:01Speaker 1: And let's see if those folks would uh, you know,
- 41:06Speaker 1: I don't know that auction house of Oddity's item. Instead
- 41:12Speaker 1: of that money going to the land Access Initiative of
- 41:15Speaker 1: our own, I would take the money from that bid
- 41:19Speaker 1: and give that money to the meal of your foundation.
- 41:22Speaker 1: And I would say in the end, in the end,
- 41:27Speaker 1: it was good for dear. I think this won't be
- 41:34Speaker 1: the last update we have on this story. And here's why.
- 41:37Speaker 1: The Sheriff's has said that they recovered eleven of the
- 41:39Speaker 1: dogs and they are currently at the animal shelter, but
- 41:42Speaker 1: they're not up for adoption at this time. What if
- 41:46Speaker 1: we find out in like a week that, like, yeah,
- 41:48Speaker 1: come get yourself an adult husky. They're super friendly, great
- 41:51Speaker 1: family dogs. Uh. We feel very good about their prospects
- 41:55Speaker 1: of of going to a home. I am not saying
- 41:58Speaker 1: that it could have had into anybody. I am saying
- 42:03Speaker 1: that when you strip the parts out, it's not as insane,
- 42:10Speaker 1: it's not as agregious as it's being portrayed fair. And
- 42:17Speaker 1: also people just like stop with the death threats, Like
- 42:20Speaker 1: just stop, like the threat of violence over a dog
- 42:27Speaker 1: in that's just the internet. Well recently we had the guy.
- 42:33Speaker 1: There's been three guys that have brought lamas to check
- 42:36Speaker 1: stations thinking they had cow elk Okay? Did they all
- 42:40Speaker 1: get death threats? They missed they misstook an animal. There
- 42:43Speaker 1: was a guy in Colorado shot someone's mule. Thought he
- 42:46Speaker 1: shot of cow. Should they be put to death? They
- 42:48Speaker 1: shot something thinking it was something that wasn't ye. People
- 42:51Speaker 1: just need to do they need to die. I mean,
- 42:55Speaker 1: stop it, no, no, just like some people take that
- 42:59Speaker 1: real serious. I don't think the hunter would want I
- 43:01Speaker 1: don't think the Hunter would want to do this at all.
- 43:02Speaker 1: But if she, if she would come, if she came
- 43:04Speaker 1: on the show, I would love to have her on
- 43:05Speaker 1: the show. How about her husband boyfriend I only did
- 43:10Speaker 1: I only didn't want to do it, but they wanted
- 43:11Speaker 1: to come and tell the story. It would be uh.
- 43:14Speaker 1: I would love to have him on the show. I
- 43:15Speaker 1: bet they come out of this with a renewed fervor
- 43:19Speaker 1: in their relationships. Seems like they have a good relationship passionate. Well, listen,
- 43:25Speaker 1: she was excited to share it. She was like, again,
- 43:28Speaker 1: let's say it had been wolf. She was excited to share.
- 43:31Speaker 1: He's defensive of her. It's not like he didn't cut
- 43:34Speaker 1: and run. No, yeah, no, he's standing binder. Before the
- 43:47Speaker 1: show and the Dark Report got a a couple announcements
- 43:50Speaker 1: to make now at the meat eater dot com. We
- 43:53Speaker 1: have a big giant whitetail week running from October nine

- 44:55Speaker 1: a first light source puffy or get a free E
- 44:59Speaker 1: three pole with purchase of the first light transfer pack.
- 45:03Speaker 1: So check out all that stuff, big week at the
- 45:07Speaker 1: meat eater dot com. Now moving on Sean, all right,
- 45:12Speaker 1: we're tackling kind of a big one in the waterfowl
- 45:16Speaker 1: community space right now. When I called John Devney from
- 45:21Speaker 1: Delta Waterfowl asking for an interview on this subject, his
- 45:26Speaker 1: exact answer was, so, you want to write an article
- 45:30Speaker 1: on the most difficult waterfowl issue in the Western hemisphere,
- 45:35Speaker 1: So to which you said, yes, I do, and I
- 45:41Speaker 1: I've been off a lot here. It's taken me quite
- 45:43Speaker 1: a bit of time to uh right this article right,
- 45:47Speaker 1: this duck report on this and the subject is the
- 45:51Speaker 1: Klamath Basin in the Oregon California border. Um. For a
- 45:57Speaker 1: little context, the Lamath Bason is like Upper Klamath Klamath Lake,
- 46:02Speaker 1: then Lower Klamath Refuge and Tuley Lake Refuge that drains
- 46:07Speaker 1: down the Klamath River. UM. The Lower Klamath Refuge was
- 46:11Speaker 1: Teddy Roosevelt's first waterfowl refuge, and that really surprises me
- 46:17Speaker 1: that he got to that before he got to oh, yeah,
- 46:21Speaker 1: because the waterfowl refuge might be different. But you know,
- 46:24Speaker 1: like that real urgency around the shore birds they were
- 46:27Speaker 1: shooting for the plintary trade. Yeah, I would have thought
- 46:30Speaker 1: that would have been one of his first things when
- 46:32Speaker 1: we were trying to save all the e grits and stuff, yeah,
- 46:34Speaker 1: from commercial slaughter. Well, and there's so much, right, there's
- 46:37Speaker 1: so much waterfowl habitat and like the East and the South.
- 46:42Speaker 1: Even think about chess Peak Bay, Like during his time,
- 46:46Speaker 1: Chesspeak Bay is getting just raped in pillage for better
- 46:50Speaker 1: lack of words, and and he goes and picks the
- 46:52Speaker 1: Klamath all the way over on the west coast. But uh,
- 46:56Speaker 1: the Lower Klamath and Tuly Lake refugees at their week
- 47:00Speaker 1: during the late nineteen fifties, we're holding four to five
- 47:03Speaker 1: million water birds. Two hundred thousand would migrate to the
- 47:08Speaker 1: refuge to molt in the summer. Um of all Pacific
- 47:13Speaker 1: Flyway water birds would stage here. It had more pintails
- 47:18Speaker 1: in just the Klamath Basin then occurred continentally, like this
- 47:21Speaker 1: place is one of the most vital as as Dr
- 47:27Speaker 1: Chris Nikolai from Delta water Fowl put it. He says,
- 47:30Speaker 1: this is the second most important refuge system in in
- 47:35Speaker 1: the entire refuge system, Number one, Yukon Delta. Oh yeah,
- 47:42Speaker 1: I thought it was gonna be some stuff around the gulf. Yeah,
- 47:45Speaker 1: yep um. And so all that is to say the
- 47:50Speaker 1: refuge is now bone dry, I mean, not a drop
- 47:55Speaker 1: of water in the whole thing. And they've canceled the
- 47:58Speaker 1: hunting season for it, uh, which is no surprise because
- 48:02Speaker 1: there's no ducks there anyway. And if you go down
- 48:07Speaker 1: here to the next kind of page, you'll see a
- 48:10Speaker 1: picture from Brian Huber. He's a waterfowl biologist out there
- 48:14Speaker 1: in California, and uh, the pictures are pretty grim and
- 48:19Speaker 1: unfortunate because it's just a whole beautiful oasis just cracked,
- 48:26Speaker 1: dirt and dry. Yeah, cracked, baked, click rock hard, cracked up,
- 48:32Speaker 1: dried mud man. Yeah, and a lot of schools. You know,
- 48:39Speaker 1: it's important to note, like we are all very aware
- 48:43Speaker 1: of the drought that's just persisted across California and Oregon
- 48:48Speaker 1: and made you know, wetlands having a real hard time
- 48:52Speaker 1: in the West. Anyway, California just shut down like three
- 48:57Speaker 1: more refugees hunting seasons in the Central valley. But um,
- 49:04Speaker 1: there's more to the story with Klamath. And I'll try
- 49:08Speaker 1: to not get too deep into the weeds here because
- 49:10Speaker 1: it's a huge thing to tackle. But one of the
- 49:14Speaker 1: biggest problems that Klamaths faced specifically is uh. According to
- 49:20Speaker 1: Ron Cole, the former manager of the Klamath Basin the complex,
- 49:25Speaker 1: the refuge complex, he really just has a problem with
- 49:30Speaker 1: what the E. S A Has done with the water. Um,
- 49:34Speaker 1: they discovered two suckers there, the the lost River sucker
- 49:41Speaker 1: and the short nose sucker in the complex there. That
- 49:45Speaker 1: now with the E. S A, a ton of the
- 49:47Speaker 1: water allocation from the Bureau of Reclamation project there has
- 49:51Speaker 1: gone to recovering these two suckers as well as of
- 49:56Speaker 1: course the threatened Southern Oregon Northern California still co host
- 50:00Speaker 1: s and salmon and uh, you know, the E. S
- 50:08Speaker 1: A has so much power right that like it kind
- 50:12Speaker 1: of trump it's the trump card that the water all
- 50:15Speaker 1: goes to recovering these these species. And in the early
- 50:21Speaker 1: two thousands, two thousand six, ron Cole had kind of
- 50:26Speaker 1: helped bring all the partners to the table, all the
- 50:29Speaker 1: stakeholders so to speak, California or again a bunch of
- 50:33Speaker 1: Indian tribes, four counties, individual farmers, companies, irrigation districts, seven
- 50:41Speaker 1: n g O s. He kind of got them all
- 50:43Speaker 1: on one agreement, that was the Klamath Basin Restoration Agreement,
- 50:48Speaker 1: and they all they all signed on with it, and
- 50:51Speaker 1: Congress never got it past. It just kind of went
- 50:55Speaker 1: to the hill to die, so to speak. And so
- 50:59Speaker 1: now everyone's kind of fragmented, not all on the same
- 51:02Speaker 1: page anymore, and not really getting along like they had before.
- 51:07Speaker 1: And uh, you know, the refuge, specifically Lower Klamathan Tuley
- 51:13Speaker 1: Lake don't have a real water right. They have one
- 51:17Speaker 1: that's for agricultural use for thirty five acre feet, and
- 51:20Speaker 1: the Fish and Wildlife Service hasn't like they haven't kind
- 51:26Speaker 1: of demanded that water from the Bureau Reclamation. They have
- 51:28Speaker 1: exercised that water right. And so what you have now
- 51:34Speaker 1: is one of the most vital waterfowl habitats in the
- 51:38Speaker 1: country going bone dry and really no obvious way out
- 51:44Speaker 1: in the short term. Um, you know, it's it's it's sad,
- 51:51Speaker 1: it's sickening. Uh. You know, Ron Cole predicted it when
- 51:56Speaker 1: they didn't get the restoration agreement past, the refuge would
- 52:00Speaker 1: go dry eight out of ten years, and and you
- 52:05Speaker 1: just start sterilizing soil right like you're you're baking what's
- 52:10Speaker 1: wetland soil. You're you're pretty much cooking organic material. And
- 52:16Speaker 1: you know, they only had a hundred and twenty nesting
- 52:20Speaker 1: ducks on this whole place this year. Um hmm. It's
- 52:26Speaker 1: a sad deal. And you know, hopefully, hopefully kind of
- 52:30Speaker 1: it wakes some people up to the water situation in
- 52:33Speaker 1: the West as a whole, and like kind of the
- 52:35Speaker 1: importance of some nuance here. I don't think anyone really
- 52:38Speaker 1: has um like the end, he'll be all answer, But
- 52:46Speaker 1: you know, Ron called Ron Cole put it really interestingly
- 52:50Speaker 1: to me. He said, the Pacific Flyway is like a
- 52:53Speaker 1: three legged stool. You have the Klamath Basin, you have
- 52:56Speaker 1: the Central Valley in California, and you have the Bear
- 53:00Speaker 1: River Watershed right Salt Lake in Utah, and those three um,
- 53:06Speaker 1: those three places are kind of what props up and
- 53:09Speaker 1: holds up the Pacific Flyways ability to have ducks. And
- 53:13Speaker 1: Central Valley in California is that like, you know, wetland
- 53:17Speaker 1: loss and hardly any water salt lake is going dry.
- 53:21Speaker 1: One's bone dry dry. And then Salt Lake is like
- 53:27Speaker 1: you know, everyone's predicting five years type thing, and so yeah,
- 53:35Speaker 1: you you kind of just have this pervasive problem that
- 53:39Speaker 1: hopefully I hope it sucks that it has to get
- 53:43Speaker 1: this bad for people to wake up to it, but
- 53:45Speaker 1: you hope it's actually at this point like a wake
- 53:48Speaker 1: up call. We got to do something with. I was
- 53:51Speaker 1: gonna ask an ignorant question about like, well, they're birds,
- 53:54Speaker 1: like can they not like fly to some other habitat
- 53:56Speaker 1: in the area, But it sounds like all the habitat
- 53:57Speaker 1: has gone some and evoly will but you're not gonna
- 54:01Speaker 1: right it's it's yeah, for sure in the short term, right,
- 54:05Speaker 1: they can go to other places. The problem is just
- 54:08Speaker 1: a when you look landscape wide and when you have
- 54:11Speaker 1: a net habitat loss right, eventually a carrying capacity of
- 54:16Speaker 1: the flyway just continues to decrease and you have um,
- 54:21Speaker 1: you know of all of California nesting mallards. California used
- 54:26Speaker 1: to nest a lot of mallards in the Central Valley
- 54:30Speaker 1: of those would all fly to the Klamath for their
- 54:33Speaker 1: summer molt. And now it's like they're gonna fly there
- 54:36Speaker 1: and find what bear dirt. Um some will figure something out,
- 54:41Speaker 1: but you'll have just a massive net loss birds. Man. Yeah,
- 54:45Speaker 1: And I think one of the interesting questions that brings
- 54:49Speaker 1: up is, you know, there's no such thing as a
- 54:52Speaker 1: free lunch, right how how far can you take it
- 54:57Speaker 1: when you are pushing water down a stream for the
- 55:00Speaker 1: salmon to keep the water cooler before they eventually take
- 55:04Speaker 1: out these klamath damns um as they allocate you know,
- 55:11Speaker 1: acre feet of water for these um suckers, as they
- 55:17Speaker 1: allocate water the little water they do have to these
- 55:21Speaker 1: other things, like how far do you pursue you know,
- 55:27Speaker 1: they the e s a right before before it's like
- 55:33Speaker 1: at the expense of everything else there. Yeah, you have
- 55:35Speaker 1: some conservation dependent species they're hanging on by a thread,
- 55:41Speaker 1: and someone might ask, is it worth losing of our
- 55:47Speaker 1: ducks to save a conservation dependent species that is almost
- 55:55Speaker 1: certainly doomed anyway? Yeah, and you know the extinctions forever man. Yeah,
- 56:01Speaker 1: it's it's well, yeah, there's no I'm not saying that
- 56:04Speaker 1: like I have that. It's a tough one because you
- 56:07Speaker 1: could also be like we you know, maybe we'll get
- 56:09Speaker 1: some great wet years and it won't be an issue anymore.
- 56:12Speaker 1: But that's not what climate models are showing. No, climate
- 56:16Speaker 1: models are showing that this is the new norm. Yeah, yeah, totally.
- 56:23Speaker 1: And you just have you know, you have more development,
- 56:28Speaker 1: you have more egg like, you have so many more
- 56:31Speaker 1: things demanding water. Is the time of less water. I
- 56:35Speaker 1: can see someone saying, like, is there a Sophie's choice
- 56:39Speaker 1: do remain here? That you'd say, um, that you'd say
- 56:47Speaker 1: that that it's too bad. It's heartbreaking. But some of
- 56:52Speaker 1: these things are gonna some of these things that are
- 56:54Speaker 1: are gonna have to step aside to make way for
- 57:00Speaker 1: the longevity of things that have a greater a greater
- 57:03Speaker 1: capacity to hang on. Right, Yeah, I mean the Klamath
- 57:07Speaker 1: Basin used to be four hundred thousand acres of wetland
- 57:12Speaker 1: habitat and then it's now like it's zero. Right, It's
- 57:18Speaker 1: things can this isn't gonna be but things can turn
- 57:21Speaker 1: with with with impounded water, with watersheds, things can turn
- 57:26Speaker 1: around so fast. But this is this is turning into
- 57:29Speaker 1: a long, long issue. Yeah, it's not like a freakish year.
- 57:36Speaker 1: It's the new norm. Yep. Especially in the West. You
- 57:40Speaker 1: know there's oh god, what was that. It's like Malika
- 57:46Speaker 1: Luka there's a lake that sits right about Pyramid Lake. Um,
- 57:51Speaker 1: that's like Applia, right over the hill from Pyramid Lake.
- 57:56Speaker 1: That was the Dr. Chris nick I explained this to me.
- 58:00Speaker 1: It was our first. It has the distinction of being
- 58:03Speaker 1: our first National Wildlife refuge to be sold because it
- 58:08Speaker 1: just went dry and was never gonna have water again.
- 58:11Speaker 1: Hasn't had a duck on it in eighty years. You know. Yeah,
- 58:14Speaker 1: it's just like it's a dry playa and put something else. Yeah,
- 58:18Speaker 1: they sold it off man turned it into BLM ground
- 58:22Speaker 1: and you know that's it sucks to say, but that's
- 58:27Speaker 1: where you see some of these other things going. Unless
- 58:30Speaker 1: I guess hopefully, Um, if anything, there's kind of a
- 58:38Speaker 1: there's kind of new spirit of the the actual current
- 58:45Speaker 1: refuge manager John Brandenburg. He he said to me, he said,
- 58:50Speaker 1: I have hope that this is what brings everyone back
- 58:54Speaker 1: to the table and gets everyone do like agree, Hey,
- 58:58Speaker 1: we need clean water going down the river for the salmon.
- 59:00Speaker 1: How do you get clean water? You put it through
- 59:02Speaker 1: a wetland. Right. Um, you know, we need a little
- 59:07Speaker 1: bit more equity because what we're doing is not working.
- 59:10Speaker 1: And you know he he also said, how beautiful would
- 59:15Speaker 1: it be right too to have like Teddy Roosevelt's first
- 59:21Speaker 1: waterfowl refuge be kind of the pivotal moment of wetlands
- 59:25Speaker 1: in the West, Like we find a way to get
- 59:28Speaker 1: through this and and create a solution together, and our
- 59:32Speaker 1: generation be like the ones that like save the Klamath
- 59:35Speaker 1: for the long haul. Yeah, should be cool, but it's
- 59:41Speaker 1: interesting or deal. You know, Pacific flyways got like the
- 59:44Speaker 1: most liberal limits. They can shoot seven ducks of person
- 59:47Speaker 1: out there. They have the longest days. Um, but that's
- 59:52Speaker 1: not gonna last long. You keep losing all your wetlands
- 59:58Speaker 1: and all your water. You waterfowl hunter in the aerials
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: step up, Yeah, totally. The part of the problem that
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: happened with the different sucker species is you didn't have
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: a huge advocacy advocacy group arguing on their behalf the
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: whole time. Yeah, you know, no one was knowing, people
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: weren't watching, people weren't yelling, right, And it winds up
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: in a situation where it becomes a federal e s
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: a issue and hunters, you know, hunters and angers get
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: criticized for being overly focused on the stuff there, being
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: overly focused on trying to conserve the resources that they
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: like to go after. It's like, least someone's doing it. Yeah,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: You're like, oh, yeah, you just because you want to
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: shoot him. It's like, well, first, it's more complicated than that.
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: And second, wouldn't it be great if every species had
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: an advocacy group like this? Yeah, most people don't advocate
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: on behalf of any species. So to to knock on
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: hunters for advocating on behalf of the ones they like,
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: it's like, great, buddy, go advocate on behalf of the
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: ones you like. Yeah, or have you never done that? Right? Yeah?
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: And now you have? Right, you have even birders like
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: piste Off in the Pacific Flyway because all of a sudden,
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: what they, you know, kind of had they were able
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: to kind of take for granted, right, was all these
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: beautiful refuges that they could go bird at. Now all
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: of a sudden they can't. Uh. An interesting thing about
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: the the advocacy thing, you know, obviously I have a
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: bias of wetlands, right, Like, there's a reason I love
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: wetlands involving duck hunting. But I think one of the
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: things here is you can't ever deny the importance of
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: a wetland on a landscape. I mean, they are just there,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: just essential for everything. And you know, at the same
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: time that the salmon down river are facing like slow
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: warm water, dirty water, and they've got these like parasite
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: issues in this salmon population, and they're pushed more water
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: down river to try to speed up the water and
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: make the water cooler. At the same time, they're like
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: neglecting the most easy obvious filter for that water, which
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: is the wetlands. But hopefully, hopefully something changes. You know,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: there's at least a lot of attention on it now. Ye,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: So if you want to find out more and look
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: at some pictures and stuff, well the Clamath basin and
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: the whole situation with Pacific Flyway waterfoule, will check out
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Shawn's big article at the meater dot com. What are
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: you gonna call it? Ah, yeah, I'm not I don't
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: know the exact title yet, but involved the clam It's
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: there right now. Go to the meater dot com and
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: you'll find Shawn's article. And we got Austin Riley back
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: with us here, so we're gonna get into We're gonna
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: we're gonna get into talking about him now. Oh so, hey,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: this this. This is an interesting thing. I mean, this
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: has just happened. This will help get us into this
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: will help get us into sports talk. So we've covered
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: if you listen to the show, you've become somewhat of
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: a subject matter at brewn walleye tournaments because of our
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: very own Seth and Chester engaging in the Montana Walleye Tour.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: So we've learned all about walleye tours and bags and
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: all that. Well, yesterday I get a text Seth yesterday.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: Sets not with us right now, but Seth yesterday text
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: me a YouTube video titled Walleye Cheaters Busted. We got
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: weights and fish. So this is a walleye tournament in Cleveland, Ohio,
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: and two anglers, Jake Running and Chase Comiskey, weighed in
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: a five fish limit that went just over thirty three pounds.
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: This is yesterday, so it says like this is posted
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: thirteen hours ago. After being announced winners and also Team
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: of the Year. The tournament master, like the tournament director,
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: cut open their fish found eight pounds of lead sinkers
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: and five fish. Also, I just talked to set this morning.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: They also the fish were stuffed full of walleye flas whoa,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: which is smart because some of these things they had
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: like four hounds lead sinkers in them. So how how
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: no one ever just pell painated? Oh that you I
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: mean like like if you ran your hand over the
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: if you just ran your hand over a fish, you know,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: it's not normal to find a rock hard? Can you
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: explain how agreed just this is? Like just well yeah,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: because there's there's like all the stuff they've won. I mean,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: you know, these guys might win sixteen grand, twenty grand
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: in a tournament and these are just small you know,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: these are hobby anglers. Well you're inna here how piste
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: off people are when we're gonna play this little bit
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: of this YouTube it but uh yeah, I had a
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: pair of fish impliers. Walleye plays all kinds of lead weights.
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: And what's weird about this tournament is the fish are dead,
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: you know, like normalet terments are always working to keep
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: the fish alive. On the big tournaments. They put him
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: in these holding tanks, and the holding tanks have earth
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: magnets in them to search for stuff, and they're scanning fish.
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: But Sets says, apparently these guys last year after winning
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: failed to polygraph. But uh failed to polygraph. But the
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: evidence has already been destroyed, so this has been long suspected.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: And then this this video on YouTube's fifteen minutes long,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: but in it you see all the guys coming away
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: in and Sean, we're gonna play the clip where the
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: discovery happens. But you can hear there's a lot of
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: grumbling where guys are like, but my fish are bigger
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: than that. You can hear people be like, understand, there's
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: no way, He's like, let me this, guys, let me
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: see those fish. We had fish that were bigger that.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: There's no way those fish way that. And things quiet down.
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: And then and then here here's what happens in the
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: YouTube clip. We got weights and there we go. I
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: love that. Everybody was like cheering after the bat. Oh,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: it was like brewing man like, people knew, people knew,
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: and people here you were getting on the fact that
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: so they they had weights, and they also were stuffing
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: them with walife filets. So apparently at first, like the
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: first thing they cut one, he cuts one fish open.
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: You see a guy that's down there fiddling with the fish,
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: and he cuts one open and screams that out, and
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: the and the announcer. The announcer cox back basically is
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: because the guy is standing right there like people are
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: braiding the guy. He's sustaining with staring at the ground
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: like he's there's nothing he can do, right, he's so busted.
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: But the first thing on the announce, the first impulse
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: the announcer has, he cocks back like he's gonna give
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: that dude the biggest haymaker, but just does an air
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: punch instead. Next I think he was throwing him out
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: like a baseball umpire throws out a manager, just just arguing.
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: That's what he did. He threw him. See. I thought
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: he was like, I'm gonna hit him in the face,
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: but then changed his mind to the air punch. That's
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: how you read it. Yeah, Austin, have you been thrown
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: out of a game before? Show him the video and
- 1:07:27Speaker 1: then and then he can decide. At one time, rookie ball, Um,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: that's the only time I ever been thrown out. Other
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: than that, Um, I drew a line a ball was
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: like it wasn't even close, Like and I was you know,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: I was eighteen. I was stupid, and and that's like
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: the last thing you can do. And like I tried
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: to like discreetly, like as I might walking across the plate,
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: I kind of like behind my back, I draw a
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: line and I ended up getting tossed, So like like
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: obviously you got the plate and you know ball's gotta
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: cross it anyway. It was like in the other pretty
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: much in the other's batter's box. And I was just
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: showing the umpire where where it came across. So you
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: were saying, in case, this is actually where it crossed.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: If you really want to know where it was, where
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: it was. Yeah, now you decide if this snare punch
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: or if he's getting thrown out like an umpire would.
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: So the announcers on the it's that guy, the guy
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: that's cutting here, and he said get the f out
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: of here. So yeah, I think he was like, well,
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: I was trying to. I was trying to we can
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: make it that way for the a TV mini series. Yeah,
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: when when you make a Netflix movie out of it'll
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: be that. He just he just gives him how many
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: pounds of fish like coming at the way and where
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: you like look at a small fish and like what
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: it or a small a pile of small fish and
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: you you like, eyeball, what approximately that should weigh and
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: then it's like seven times more with these fish that
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: are known, so it's not like a three pounds shark. Yeah,
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: But also I was gonna I was gonna ask. Also
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: it's like, was there a big difference in like first instance,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: like okay, yeah, okay, So it's not like it was
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: just like well maybe not in that one right because
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: of eight pounds of lead, probably a little bit of
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: a game. Well no, because people have to watch the
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: whole thing. It was like there's another team that had
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: overt right, So it was it was definitely they put it.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: Now apparently forty eight states have just like flat out
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: rule against cheating in any tournament. So he's got it's
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: probably criminal. Oh yeah, very criminal. Most places, there's ane
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: that talks about how the two angler team had won
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: three thousand dollars and victories. Wow, that's all going to
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: be under scrutiny now, Like I'm sure, Well, those guys
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: have won an article from you know, almost a year ago,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: so they were like prolific anglers in this area. Many
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: like mischievous. It's like felony still in money, Say, what's
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: the worst cheating you've ever done? Uh? I grew up
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: loving baseball in the late nineties, and you know, it
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: was like it's hard to talk about cheating without with
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: a baseball player, without talking about steroids. Man, it's just
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: like the height of all the people watch like I was,
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: you could not miss the Cardinals play when Mark McGuire
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: was was chasing it was chasing that that that record,
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: and no one, i mean maybe people were thinking that
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: I was pretty young at the time, but no one
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: was like looking at this guy thinking like why does
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: he look like he just got stung by a hundred bees?
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: Like no man should be should look like this. And
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: then and then the effect that that had on the
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: week for a few years was was massive. I don't
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: know from someone who's like now a professional baseball player
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: and he's that you still kind of feel that kind
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: of that that with the weight of the steroid. No,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: it's it's pretty it's pretty gone. Yeah, I mean we're
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: testing now. It's like you can't. Yeah, I mean we're
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: getting we've had c DT. They're like, which the guys
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: that drugged us is I mean starting It's been like
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: they've been there like every day for the last like
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: two weeks, and like randoms whether it's blood tests or
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: you know here, and so it's like they've cracked down
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: on it so hard. It's like guys aren't Yeah, guys
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: aren't getting away with it. They're just over yeah and
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: sophisticated beyond, Like it's not just anabolic steroids they're looking
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: for anymore. Yeah, they're looking forever. And like I said,
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: it's like the they're taking blood. It's like you just can't,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: you can't get away with it. When did you guys
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: when you were born? You were born in Tennessee, moved
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: in Mississippi, right, Yeah, so I lived I lived in
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: her Yeah, and I've never lived in Tennessee, like physically
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: lived in Tennessee. Um. Um, I've lived in Hernando, Mississippi,
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: which is twenty minutes from Memphis. So it's like Memphis
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: was the closest hospital. So that's that's that's why. Yeah,
- 1:12:25Speaker 1: it's like that's the only place to go. Um My
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: buddy is always you know, especially on the team, you're
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: not from Mississippi or from Tennessee. I'm like, oh, that's why.
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: That's why I was always always like Mississippiromssissippi, Mississippi, and
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: that's born in Memphis. Tenn because your parents drove over
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: there the way. But birth certificate says Memphis, Tennessee, so
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: you can't argue with it. He could still help out
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: with the Squirrel cook Off though, Oh yeah, we should
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: talk about this. How connected to Tennessee? Do you feel
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: like a strong, super strong connection? Not really to Memphis
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: area though, right, I go up like I went up
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: there one time this all season for Luke Kong's concert.
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: That's the only time. So I don't don't, I said,
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: I get enough of somewhat of a big city, so
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: I stay stay secluded as possible. We ever got to
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: meet Luke Oh yeah, yeah, he came into the locker
- 1:13:18Speaker 1: room about a love over a month ago. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: he's getting a great No, he doesn't know. He doesn't
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: know about this either, but so we're going to ramp
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: it up. Well, here's the thing we're trying to work on,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: so you might you might have to come up because
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: if you can make it, we're trying to work on
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: this sing where uh there's we're trying to get. There
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: were some people that wanted to move the National Squirrel
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: cook Off. World Squirrel cook Off has always been in Arkansas,
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: and they wanted to bring it to Tennessee, but the
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: animal rights people got onto it and like they're they
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: lost their venue. So we're trying to bring it back
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: with a band. Yeah, you might need to bring up
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: a squirrel dish. I can do that and you can
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: revisit your birthplace the kill Messa squirrels one morning. So
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: when when you were growing up there, what was the
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: what was the How did you get introduced to hunting
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: and fishing? Um? So I got introduced really by my
- 1:14:23Speaker 1: my uncle, like bow hunting. Um my dad hunted. My
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: dad grew up in Demas, Arkansas, small town. Um, die
- 1:14:30Speaker 1: hard duck hunter. Yeah, that's good duck hunting country right there. Um,
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: die hard duck hunter. Like he tells me stories all
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: the time. This is when to me, he said, when
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: ducks were around. He doesn't think ducks ducks around anymore.
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: That's a common malady that happens when you get older. Yeah,
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: they're not around as perhaps where you hunted them, you know,
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: or they turned it into a Walmart or something, you know,
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: and it just seems like the whole world ended. Yeah.
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: So he you know, he said he they used to
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: wake up in the morning kill limon and Mallard go
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: to class like every the morning. So it's like and
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: then kind of, as you know, my sister came around,
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: I came around, my brother came around. He just kind
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: of stopped. Uh. He's more of a camp guy who
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: loves to cook, um, have a having cocktail along with it. Um.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: But really, my uncle Heath introduced me to to to
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: deer hunting. Um why on Mississippi every weekend. I got
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: the chance too. I was going down there um and
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: and just spending the weekend with him hunting. Killed my
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: first actually killed my first deal with a rifle there,
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: killed my first boat or a dealer with the bow
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: there um and ever since then? What was that? Why?
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: The Mississippi not not far from Startville, Mississippi State, about
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: an hour west of there. So did uh where'd you
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: wind up going to? So? What high school? Did you
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: go to? Sota Central? Uh? In South Haven, Mississippi? And
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: by that point you were hardcore baseball? Yeah? At that point,
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: I mean I this is as as soon as I
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: could pick up a bat, I was swinging a baseball bat,
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: um and and just fell in love with it. My
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: my dad, um, you know, was a sports guy. He
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: punted at Mississippi State. UM played baseball there for his
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: freshman year and then just just went to football only.
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: So we were always doing sports UM and just gravitated
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: towards towards baseball versus football or basketball. There had to
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: have been though, man, Like, there had to have been
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: either or or this or that moment. There's this there's
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: this quote by Jim Harrison. I aishually I had it
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: with me. The writer Jim Harrison has this quote. We're
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: talking about where he grew up. He said that at
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: at some age it was either there was kids that
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: had a baseball bat when they're riding their bike down
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: the road, or the kids that had a fishing pole.
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: And he said, and they might intermix a little bit,
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: but their destinies were set, you know. But that didn't
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: happen to you, Like, how was this sort of you
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: know what I mean when you how was it figuring
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: that out? Like from hunting, just like when you were young? Yeah,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: you know, I mean, to be involved in something that
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: would be if you're good at it, you have promised
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: at it. It requires unbelievable dedication. You can't be distracted, right,
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: and then you have to be looking at the stuff
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: you're not gonna do, right, Yeah, I know. I mean
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: I remember growing up and and in the summers it
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: was like, you know, all my buddies were going to
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: the lake, all my buddies were going to the pool,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: they were going on vacation, and I was going to
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: play baseball. Um And it was just you know, one
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: of those things that I love so much. Um And
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: it just like I said, it kind of what I
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: was saying back earlier, is like I get the best
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: of both worlds. Like it's that's how it was even
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: you know, growing up, It's like summers were baseball winners
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: were hunting, and it's just like that's what that's what
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: I did. Um and and and it was for me,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: it was an easy choice between baseball and football. Like
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: I I liked football, um, but I knew just the
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: I think the tension to the small details that the
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: game of baseball, you know, you have to understand and
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: and focus on the mental side of the game. Like
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: I think that was what you know, attracted me so much.
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: There was so much uh little side, you know, the
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: little things that the side of the you know, baseball,
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: that that I think attracted me more. Um. And like
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: I said, just being able to do baseball and then
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: one or for my hunting season. Yeah, I was thinking
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: about that earlier when we were talking about your last
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: five games after a hundred and sixty two games, that
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: it can come down to like a few pitches. You
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: know that that level of detail and statistical and nominally
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: in baseball, like this is not football. And that's that's
- 1:18:49Speaker 1: what I think. Some fans get so bored with it
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: and they you know, baseball is boring, it's like, but
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: when you really dive into it, it's like, you know,
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: there's so like the tens in the detail is so
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: huge in the game. Like you know, it's like, you know,
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: if I say there's a guy on first and you know,
- 1:19:08Speaker 1: somewhat of a slow runner, and I have an opportunity
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: to turn double play, I don't, um, you know, that
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: guy ends up staying on first or second or whatever
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: it may happen. It's like that guy ends up base hit,
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: scoring and run. It's like, you know, looking back at
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: the end of the game, it's like, if I would
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: have turned that double play, the game's you know, you know,
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: we may be when it when about one versus losing
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: by one and so it's like that small stuff is
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: to me is what you know? I think I love
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: so much of it. And you have that level of
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: knowledge about all the players, like you know that someone's
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: a slow run. Yeah, yeah, we and part of it
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: like analytically, you know, it's taken over to the game
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: so much. It's like if I don't know if you've
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: noticed last night, it's like every between every batter, I
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: was like pulling out this card in my pocket and
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: it shows like where you know, it kind of gives
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: us an idea where to play. You know, it has
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: you know, how fast the guy I like plus minus
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: like whether guy runs fast? Like that. You know what's
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: funny because I kept saying I was saying to someone's
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: like that dude just pull a phone out of his
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: pocket and he's like, there's no way from the Diamondbacks.
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: Did you'all see that happen? Yeah, the guys, that's what
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: you say, There's no way he had a phone. No. No,
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: It's like we have like a little card they do
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: all like their their you know, analytical work. We get
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: it um and it kind of helps us, you know,
- 1:20:24Speaker 1: you know, we still play like the the eye test
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: of you know, we can make adjustments if we want to,
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: but we you know, it's very helpful. Is that kind
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: of what what you're you're referencing when you start mixing
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: up how you guys are shifting up. Okay, so yeah,
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: that's that's where we get get our information. Are you
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: happy or disappointed at the shift? He's going away happy
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: in a way because I don't have to run the
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: right field. Um, you potentially we're shifting all the way
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: to write, Yeah, I don't know if I want. I
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: went I went out to shallow right field. Yes, a
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: couple of times. Um, you know, I'm I'm excited at
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: that I don't have to do that next year. But
- 1:21:00Speaker 1: at the same time, like the rule is is you
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: have to have to position players on each bag or
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: each side of the bag next year of second base.
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: My thought process was, as long as you have a
- 1:21:11Speaker 1: foot in in the dirt. I was just like, take
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: away the extremes, like the guys that go all the
- 1:21:16Speaker 1: way out to right field. But it is what it is, um,
- 1:21:19Speaker 1: and I think it'll you know, it'll help some guys
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: from a hitting standpoint, and it takes you know, and
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: then shows the value of you know, a true defender
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: of like the range. H you gotta have that that
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: side of it next year, so it'll be cool. How
- 1:21:31Speaker 1: I know, you probably can't get into too much detail,
- 1:21:33Speaker 1: but how um, how specific is the card? I mean,
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: you don't have a card on every player, right or
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: not a card on every player, but like we have
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: every player um and then I mean it's pretty basic.
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: It's just you know, it's you know, whether we're shifting
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: or not. Um and that, Like I said, that just
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: tells me if I'm if I'm going to right field
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: or not. And then um, if if he's you know,
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: if he's a speed guy or if he's a slower guy.
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: That just kind of helps us tell you know, how
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: much that game clock of you on our mind, of
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: how much time I have to to get the guy
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: out and hurt to find someone's card and find your
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: name on it. It's a slow guy, that's me. I'm
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: that guy on someone's car that's like, hey, all the
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: time in the world. Just can you tell us what
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: he might say about Pete Alnto, Like what a few
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: things details about it? He's straight up, which I mean,
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: that's kudos to him. He gets the ball, you know,
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: you've seen it, like he has the ball power all
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: sides of the field. Um, I want to say he's
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: an equal, like what we call an equal guy, Like
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: he gets down the line pretty pretty fine. So, um,
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: nothing nothing bad to say about Pete. Hey, you know,
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: speaking of running fast, who wasn't found talk what's the
- 1:22:51Speaker 1: dude that has the race? Like the seventh inning race?
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: I was hoping that the freeze. I know, I'm very shocked.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: He normally there every day I checked there. Explain this
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: to me. Yeah, So they what they do is um
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: and this is exclusive to Braves games. Right, So they
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: start on one side of the foul pole in the
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: warning track and they pick a random person in the fans.
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: It's like, hey, do you want to beat the freeze?
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: Where do they try to find like a fast looking dude?
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: They because the dude that they had last day who
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: gets to do the run to get the base. So
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: that guy he looked like you went and found like
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: a pretty I mean, that wasn't just a random dude.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: There's been guys that have beat the freeze. And yeah,
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: and there's been guys that pulled Hammy's Uh, they've beat
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: the free There's been guys that have a dirt that
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: have tripped, um, so I think they just go pretty random.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: But it's well, you got a nice little kick out
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: of it, especially, like I said, a guy that's you know,
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: not stretched and he's about halfway there and he checks
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: up because his hamstring is pulled, and it's like it's
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: like John Colt. It's like Coulter's run right, Like the
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: guy gets the head start. Yeah, yeah, guy gets like
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: a fifteen you know yard yard head start, and you
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: know he normally he's can roll you. Yesterday should shows
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: you for that. Yet to night will make it happen
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: to me. Man. Yeah, it goes viral a few times
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: a year because somebody trips and falls and, like you said,
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: gets a serious injury. It's entertaining itself. What do you
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: have like a home hunting set up? Or is that
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: just out of the question because you can't do all
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: you can't keep track of this. So I'm in a
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: hunting club on the Mississippi River in tunica Um. It's
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: it's four thousand acres um just just west of Tunaka, Mississippi.
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: I think it's like twelve of us in it um
- 1:24:40Speaker 1: and that that's what that's why I you know, when
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: I'm home, that's where where I hunt. So you got
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: a spot where, even though you can't pay any attention
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: to that stuff because you gotta focus, You've got a
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: spot that your friends and stuff just roll right into.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, so, um, the way it works is, um,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: like I said, there's twelve of us. One of my
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: my best friends is in it um will Craft and
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: his dad and so they you know with this new
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: Spartan you know they sell ear cameras are awesome this
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: time of year. Like I'm sitting in my locker ro
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: I'm glued to it um because I'm you know, I'm
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: checking them. Um. Oh yeah. So they, like said, they
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: fortunate enough. They kind of set everything up, you know,
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: feed um whatever it may be. You know, hang some
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: stands move from cameras around so that, like I said,
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: when I whenever I do get home, you know I
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: can I can roll right into it. How do you, uh,
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: when you're talking about all the analytics and all the
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: stuff to keep track of and all the studying, what's
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: your when when? And how do you just zone out?
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: I mean during season like as far as just that
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: you I don't know, watch some dudes getting in a
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: fight at a Walleye Tearraman on YouTube or whatever. I
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: mean talking about during before games. No, I mean just
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: like in your schedule. I'm pretty low key. I'm not
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: gonna lie like I don't like to. I'm not one
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: of those guys that's sitting, you know, in my hotel
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: room and like I'm studying film or um. You know
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: I'm gonna check them like the next next day. Starter. Um.
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: But you know, to me, it's like over a hundred
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: and sixty two games. If if you like, you gotta
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: step away from it. Um or you know, I like
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: to play golf on the on the road. If if
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: I get an off day, you know, I'll try to
- 1:26:19Speaker 1: hit the links just to do something different. It's like
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: like I said, you're we may have like two to
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: three days off in a month, and it's just like
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: I said, it's so repetitive every day. It's like hotel
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: field home field, hotel field home field. So it's like
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: doing something different. Um. I think is is huge from
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: from the middle side of it. So you know, I
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: lock in once I get to the yard. Um, like
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: I said, I'll figure out who's pitching that night. Once
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: I get to the yard, I'll go in to do
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: some homework. We you know, we have an app on
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: our phone that we're able to log in and um.
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: And you know, kind of like I said, do your
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: homework short to speak of of what that picture is
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: gonna try to do to you that night. Um. But
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: you know, like I said, at at the same time,
- 1:27:04Speaker 1: there's some you know, definitely got to step away at points.
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: You've also always been a part of like competitive teams
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: in the majors. And imagine you know, people who play
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: for a club that is eliminated from playoff contention by July,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: they like do feel that law more than you do.
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: It's it's probably a lot easier stay engaged when you're
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: like always in the hunge. Oh yeah, no doubt. I mean,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: like I said, it's like you're always looking, you know,
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: even like this year, it's like you're always watching the
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: box scores of the Mets. Um. We're we're seeing how
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: they're doing. Um. And I think that's that's the beauty
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: of its. Like you said, you're you're playing for something. Uh,
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: You're not just out there you know, trying to you know,
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: whatever it may be for For teams that you know,
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: aren't aren't in a playoff contingent. But like I said,
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: being able to being fortunate enough to be on a
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: team that you know, competes every year, it it definitely
- 1:27:53Speaker 1: makes it, you know, a lot easier to to go
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: out there every day. And like I said, you're you're
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: playing for something, you know at the end of the year.
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: You know how the president has an intelligence briefing where
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: people come in they right take it all down for it,
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: you have to do your own like do you have
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: does someone present to you about what's going on? Or
- 1:28:13Speaker 1: you have to do your own research. You have you
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: have to go over the materials yourself. Uh no, like
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: I said, that's like analytical side of the game is
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: like grown so much in the last three or four years. Um.
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: So like we get we have we have hitters meetings,
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: like we go over like scouting report um I Like
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: I said, I just said that we we get a
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: scouting report on the picture. Someone for someone presents the
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: information someone verbally presents the information to that verbally and
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: we get like paperwork on it. Um at the field
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: and we can, um you know, go over and take
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: all take as much or as little information as we
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: want and like I said, form form a game plan.
- 1:28:49Speaker 1: Yeah who who? Uh So it's probably the most demanding
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: for the picture, I would say, so, um, just because
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: is they're seeing so many different guys like me and
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: all his personality right right. So it's like for me,
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: it's like I may see you know, I may say
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: one guy one night for guys really good um that night,
- 1:29:12Speaker 1: or I may see four four guys. Um. So, but
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: you know they're seeing you know, for sure nine you know,
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: pinch hitting, you may see ten or eleven. Uh So,
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: I think it's definitely more more important for for them.
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: What's it like to have all your all your finances
- 1:29:30Speaker 1: just become like national news story, We'll you know what
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: I mean, Like yeah, yeah, to be like he will
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: get this much money in this ten years and all
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: of a sudden. I mean, it's just there's no sort
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: of like politeness about like actually, you know, don't know
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: what Bob makes. You know, it's gotta be like you
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: gotta feel pretty early on, you know, early on in
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: my career, I was, you know, a little a about it.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: But then it's like, you know, oh, I'm not gonna
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: step away from it because of that reason. So you
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: just kind of not to sign the contract. I just
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: don't want everybody to know. So, yeah, it's one of
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: those things you embrace, you just kind of get over it. Uh,
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: it is what it is. Sean and I were talking about.
- 1:30:18Speaker 1: There was a player last night. I was having a
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: couple of had a couple of rough plays, and the
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: guy in front of us just yelled out his contract amount,
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: you know, and it's like it was the thing his
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: insult at the player was to yell out his contract amount.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: Was it was it Rosario? Yeah, okay, yep, yeah, which
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: was a weird, weird thing to this, I can imagine.
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: So you had you you have, um, you signed a
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: contract with the Braves. It was uh hadn't been done
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: before like a link time. Yeah yeah, um, thank you Braves.
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: Uh No, very very fortunate. Um. You know I I
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: it made sense to me, um to to just be here,
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: you know, hopefully for the rest of my career. I mean,
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: I my family's five hours from here, you know, in Mississippi. Um,
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: my wife and I had some family that lives here. Um,
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: you know, the organization is great, you know, the family
- 1:31:19Speaker 1: relations are great. You know, having a little one that
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: just you know, it it made too much sense for
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: for me not to you know, to to sign something
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: that was that was long term here. So when you
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: when you did that, was it just kind of like, um,
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: in terms of aspiration and career, when you got to
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: that point, it's just like a side relief. Where is it, like,
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: holy cow, man, now I really got to like performed
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: for a long time, or else I'm gonna feel like dirt,
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: you know. Um. And definitely was the side relief, just
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: because you know, up until that point, you know, I
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: could have been traded, you know, the next day, or
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: or you know, I you know, a career injury that
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: could happen. I could you know, not know what was
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: my next move. Um. So you know, like I said,
- 1:32:06Speaker 1: it was just you know that that right there alone,
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: I think took a lot of weight off my shoulders,
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: just knowing that, you know, my family set up for
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: the for the you know, the rest of your life.
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: You know, don't have to worry about college for for
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: a little man, like any any of those things. All
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: the financial side of it was taken care of. But
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: at the same time, it's like, Okay, now, you know,
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: I expect more out of myself. Fans to expect more
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: out of me, so that that definitely, you know, plays
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: and I could picture that just being a huge you know,
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: because then there's sort of this uh it's like the
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: fans everyone they've bought something and now it better turn
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: off um And And to me, that's like it's like
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: another thing that like I love. It's it's just like, hey,
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: I got I gotta just another reason to work harder
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: and and try to try to perform better. Is just
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: you know, try to be that guy that fans can
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: rely on, my teammates can rely on um And and
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: that's that's that's the beauty of it. To me, I
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: spend a silly amount of time fantasizing about like the
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: deer hunting property i'd buy if I were to win
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: the lottery or something. Now that you sign this contract,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: is that on your radar that you're gonna get a
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: farm Mississippi? I want? I would love to own some
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: uh some land behind the levee um by the Mississippi River.
- 1:33:26Speaker 1: Just um. Growing up hunting in the hills of Mississippi.
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: Deer on is big. Being in this camp that I
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: am in now behind the levee Um. There's some giants
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: that walk around there sneaky sneaky giants, swamp donkeys. Yeah,
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: there you go. Um No, so that's definitely in the
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: in the works and hopefully in the next couple of years.
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: What about like when farm two comes around, is that
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: gonna be Mississippi as well? Are you thinking somewhere else?
- 1:33:51Speaker 1: If you know, if I whatever purchase another piece, um
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: out of state Illinois, I would love to be able to,
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: you know, because you know I could be there in five,
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: five or six hours. Um, not not far um, Like
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: I said, would love a love a piece up there somewhere.
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: Are you actively looking for stuff? Um? Always? Even even
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: before I signed the contract, Like I said, it was
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: a dream, Like I've always drained owing in my own
- 1:34:20Speaker 1: land and um, you know, building it for the better,
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: for for wildlife. My grandfather farmed, Um, so I was,
- 1:34:27Speaker 1: you know, own a tractor riding around. Yeah. So it's uh,
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: you know, whether it's owning a piece, you know that's
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: you know, half of it's we call it like the
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: wet side, which is on the Mississippi side of the levee,
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: or the dry side. Um, you know, whether it's half
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: and half farming a little bit, you know, definitely want
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: to want to do something just for people who aren't familiar.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: Can you explain when you when you talk about blow
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: the levee or so there's a huge levey. Yeah, there's
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: a huge level that runs down the Mississippi River. Um,
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: and it's just you know a flood flood you know,
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: flood levee. Um. So just on the other side, like
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: on the wet we called the wet side, which is
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: the side closest to to uh to the river. Um.
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: Just it's something about the just huge old um oak tree.
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: I mean just trees are huge. I mean it's just
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: different to me. It's like old forest. Yeah yeah, yeah,
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: it's like you you go on the other side, it's
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: just like completely different. It's crazy. It's like when you
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: go over there, it's like you're into me. You're in
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: a whole another another world. Well it hasn't been so
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: manipulated by man ye right. And then like you said,
- 1:35:33Speaker 1: you're right there at the delta. So it's like on
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: the other the dry side, it's like straight flat pretty
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: much all farmland. Um. So it's I love spending time
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: behind behind the levee. H. That's a good term. Yeah,
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: that's good. So what are your what are your plans
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: this year? When you get down? Your season gonna lay low? Uh?
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: You know we had little man, uh my my son
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: eastan April, So, um, gonna gonna lay low this this
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: offseason because I hadn't got to spend a whole lot
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: of time with him. Um, I know, I'm going to
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: Nebraska to hunt, uh hunt up there. It's kind of
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: like my my year, my yearly thing that I do.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: But other than that, almost stay stay around the house.
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: Uh and just you know, spend as much time with
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: him as possible. So like you got any trips you'll
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: have to cancel if things go good. Uh no, that's
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: I said, that's that's the only one I got I
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: got planned this year. So did you mean your kid
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: after the Baseball bat Company? No? So a lot of
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: people's tea. Yeah even better. Um is it true that
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: you got that so your your son was born during season? Yeah?
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: You guys get what's your what you guys get like
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: a three day fraternity leave or how does that work? Yeah?
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: So three days? Is I mean obviously if you need more,
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: they do? You know? Alex is as good about it? Um?
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: Were you playing on birth? And? Oh? Yeah? So I
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: listen to that. So we were in l a um
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: and Anda was, you know, call She called me a
- 1:37:11Speaker 1: couple of times like hey, I'm having these weird you
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: know pains, and it's just you know, it's like every
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: fifteen minutes. Like I was like, maybe you know, call um,
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: what's what's the terms. She's not. It's not there like
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: the doctor, uh, midwife, midwife. Um, there it is. So
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: I was like call her and just like see if
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: you need to come in or whatever. And she was
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: like they're called her And doctor was like, oh, they're
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: probably just Braxton Hicks like you know, drink a bunch
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: of water and put your feet up, blah blah blah.
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: So um, this was like twenty minutes for game time.
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: So I was like I told our trainer George. UM,
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: I was like, hey, we call Anna just to make
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: sure she knows, like if anything goes on to call
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: you like that way I can you know, get get
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: on plane and go. Um middle of the game, you know,
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: you know, the middle of the game. Um. You know,
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: George gets a call and it's going to the hospital. Um.
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: And at this point I think we're in like the
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: seventh or eighth inning. They start looking at flights. There's
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: no you know, no private flights that are gonna get
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: me in there any earlier, you know, commercial flights. There
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: was like the Red Eye was like the only thing
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: I could take at this point because you know the
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: time change and stuff. Um so you're in you said
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: you're in Los Angeles, Yeah, in l A. She's here.
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: So her her aunt ends up coming, get to her,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: take her to the hospital. You know this is you
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: know she's going, she's getting ready. Um as soon as
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: the games over with George is like, hey, you gotta flight,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: you gotta leave. So like I'm like straight panic mode,
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: go get in the shower. They get me a car,
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: send me to the airport. Did you did you have
- 1:38:49Speaker 1: the bat while this is going on? Well they didn't.
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: They luckily they didn't tell me, um because they well
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: there was no there was like there was no reason
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: too because the only flight I could take was a
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: mental like so they were they weren't pulling me out
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: like there's no sense and pulling me out of the game.
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: Um So, but they're working at it. Yeah, they're they're
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: all like behind talking to my agent, getting every trying
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: to get everything ready. Um So, as soon as the
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: game is over, I shower, rush to the you know,
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: the airport, UM to take the Red Eye, and like
- 1:39:20Speaker 1: seven thirty I get a text from you know, Anna's sister,
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: your dad, and I'm on the day flight. I end
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: up missing it, which crushed me. That was that was tough.
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: You got like no sleep on the flight because I'm
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: sitting here, like, you know, thinking what you know what,
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: you know, what all was going on? Um Landed said
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: he had, you know, born at seventh. It's like seven
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: thirty five. I landed like eight and end up getting
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: up there like nine thirty. Traffic and everything and just
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: it was a long a couple of days. But anyway,
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: so we had an off day the next day. UM,
- 1:39:54Speaker 1: and you know at that point, you know, I can
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: only do so much. So I up, you know, having
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: the off day and and just missing the missing the
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: one one game. But no, normally you can, I said,
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: you get three days of maternity ly even. But it
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: was a good little ride. Um but I tell and
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: I was like it, maybe I have a blessing in disguise.
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: Because they waited so long to give her the epidural
- 1:40:18Speaker 1: that my aunt ended up having to like step in
- 1:40:20Speaker 1: and being a little mean, which I'm like, I don't
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: know if I would have could have done that. So
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: you may have been a blessing in the sky. You
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: might not have been as good as an abbey. Yeah,
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: so uh, you know, all things work out for a reason.
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: So it's good. Do you guys desire to have more kids? Um?
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: I would? I think she would to you know, we've talked.
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: I don't think anytime soon. Um, I think yeah, to
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: think about it. Yeah, but I think there's definitely hopefully
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: another one in the in the future. We need to
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: do is get yourself a little calculator or a calendar
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: and figure out Oh yeah, we've I've already talked about
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: it planning in the off season. Yeah. Man, we're gonna
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: do this January, right man, I'm gonna be there. I'll
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: drive you down to the house. I be there for
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: the whole san day. Be like, well, I thought it
- 1:41:09Speaker 1: was gonna be that way, but we're kind of onto
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: this really nice box, so it's gonna be you have
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: to go again. Well. The farther thing is is like,
- 1:41:18Speaker 1: and I could have been anywhere else, and I make
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: it on time, Like we happened to just be in
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: the West Coast, happened to be playing in l A.
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: Just couldn't have been playing Washington or Phillies or New
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: York where I'm an hour or two. You know, I'd
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: been five and a half hour flight. But talk to
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: us about your quote that win viral earlier this year
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: that I think it was popular among a lot about
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: doors been I'll go ahead and say I didn't say that.
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: You didn't say that. So where did this come from?
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: So there someone made I guess it was an account.
- 1:41:54Speaker 1: Let's say the quality real quick. It says I crushed
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: the ball and hunt deer and it ain't deer season?
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: Is that like the actual like insta liked graphic. Someone
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: made that about you, the very small print like sack
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: sports or something. Well, no, so it says Austin Riley
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: didn't say this something like that. So this account that
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: created this, I know, like it funny, funny quote. Great,
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: But yeah, so it says, um, they like to say
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: account made all this stuff. So it says like a
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: bunch of random stuff like from players and that, like
- 1:42:28Speaker 1: they you know, I didn't say this, but it's kind
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: of funny. Oh yeah, it says Austin Riley did not
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: say this about his recent hot streak, literally put it in.
- 1:42:44Speaker 1: I've had to tell a couple of people that, yeah,
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: it's a very small down to saying that now, like
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: you should make that yours. I know, Um, I hadn't,
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: but it's it's a it's a it's a hilary I've gotten.
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: So when it came out, like all my buddies, like
- 1:43:01Speaker 1: everybody was sending to me, it was good. So did
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: that like introduce a lot of opposing players that would
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: come up and talk to me like, oh, you like
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: deer hunting to I think everyone. I mean really, if
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: you look at my Instagram account, it's it's got It's not. Yeah,
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: it's not. Everyone knows. Yes, everyone pretty much knew that
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: I was, you know, being from Mississippi. Though, Oh, you're
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: a big redneck hunter, aren't you. I was like, yeah,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: I guess all right, man, I know, I know you
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: gotta get out of here. But good luck with the
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: family first and foremost appreciate that coratulations on your kid. Think,
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: good luck with the rest of the year, and then
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: one's done. Good luck with the hunt. Appreciate it. I'll
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: keep I'll keep an eye on it. Instagram make sure,
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: for sure, So for sure I appreciate you guys have me.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: Oh know it's great man, best walk up song in
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: baseball to you. You know I'm saying you have it?
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Stone called Yes, he was talking about how
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: he doesn't have any connection to take me out to
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: the ball game. But when I heard the glass shatter
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: for on Steve Austin, I was like, oh man, if
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: I was an imposing patriot, be so intimidated at that moment,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: so real quick on how that came out, so like
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: Nelly hot in here has been like my walk up
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: film for like ever since I got into pro ball.
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: But everybody on Twitter was like hammering me. I was like,
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: you gotta tang, you gotta uh And I think I
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: went through like a little skid where I struggle. I
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: was like, I'm changing it and end up going off
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: after it. So's it's stuck. I love it. And I
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: got to the after one in the World Series w W.
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: E sent me like an actual belt. It's my most
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: like price. It says like w W World Series Champs
- 1:44:43Speaker 1: on It's got the Atlanta enbow on its nest. Yeah
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: I be Nelly never sent you like a face band, No,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: I got a huge belt. You who your real friends are,
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: right man? Thanks good thanks good m
