Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Everybody. Welcome to Friar Territory. It's part of the Foul
- 0:11Speaker 1: Territory Network. I am Darren Smith alongside Marty Caswell, per
- 0:15Speaker 1: usual and the third member of our team. He's sort
- 0:19Speaker 1: of a jack of all trades. You never know. We
- 0:21Speaker 1: could start the show with him, or we can end
- 0:22Speaker 1: the show with him, or maybe he just comes on
- 0:25Speaker 1: in the middle of the show. You never know. But
- 0:26Speaker 1: Kyle Hart, who's a picture with the podres, spending some
- 0:29Speaker 1: time with us here on Friar Territory as we get rolling.
- 0:32Speaker 1: You can subscribe to the show on YouTube wherever it
- 0:34Speaker 1: is that you get your audio podcast. The podres have
- 0:37Speaker 1: won three straight games. They will face the Brewers as
- 0:39Speaker 1: we are recording for the second time coming up on
- 0:42Speaker 1: Tuesday night. Kyle Heart, welcome to Friar Territory. Thank you
- 0:45Speaker 1: very much for starting the show with us.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Thank you, guys. Yeah, that's a good intro. I would
- 0:50Speaker 2: say Mason Miller lives down the street, though, we might
- 0:53Speaker 2: want to end the show with that guy.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Okay, good, Yeah, Well I like that idea. I mean,
- 0:58Speaker 1: you never know. I didn't know it till a couple
- 1:00Speaker 1: of minutes ago that we would start the show with you,
- 1:02Speaker 1: But like I said, you do a little bit of everything. Kyle,
- 1:04Speaker 1: how's life treating you? Tell us a little bit about
- 1:07Speaker 1: the experience of twenty twenty six from your standpoint being
- 1:09Speaker 1: a part of this team, the ups the downs for
- 1:12Speaker 1: you personally, for the squad itself, it's been an interesting
- 1:15Speaker 1: year to say the least.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Yeah, No, I mean, I like where we're at right now,
- 1:19Speaker 2: especially as a team for me personally. You know, started
- 1:23Speaker 2: off all right, spend a little bit of time in Olpaso, obviously,
- 1:27Speaker 2: kind of come come back up just really to cover
- 1:30Speaker 2: Mason on his bereavement list, and then you know, was
- 1:34Speaker 2: lucky enough to pitch well, and a couple other injuries
- 1:38Speaker 2: and things popped up, so I've you know, just kind
- 1:40Speaker 2: of ridden that out. But I think last night was
- 1:44Speaker 2: one of the more fun games that we've had and
- 1:46Speaker 2: kind of encapsulates like where we're at as a team.
- 1:50Speaker 2: You know, it could be a rollercoaster of a game,
- 1:52Speaker 2: but we're gonna, we're gonna, you know, try to find
- 1:54Speaker 2: a way to win it.
- 1:58Speaker 1: I remember when you got option to triple A and
- 2:01Speaker 1: I remember specifically something that your manager, Craig Stammon said,
- 2:05Speaker 1: which was, you know, we told Kyle Hart he is
- 2:08Speaker 1: a big league player, but this is baseball and it
- 2:11Speaker 1: becomes a little bit of a numbers game, and you know,
- 2:14Speaker 1: he's got to explain that decision to you, and sometimes,
- 2:17Speaker 1: you know, you wonder if that's just a little bit
- 2:19Speaker 1: of lip service. But from Craig Stammon's experience, right having
- 2:22Speaker 1: performed in that role, it sounded really sincere. And I
- 2:27Speaker 1: know it's easy to say that sort of stuff. I
- 2:28Speaker 1: don't know that it makes Kyle Hard or anybody else
- 2:30Speaker 1: in that situation feel better when you're the one on
- 2:32Speaker 1: the airplane duel Paso, But I wonder if you could
- 2:35Speaker 1: talk to us a little bit just about you know,
- 2:37Speaker 1: what that might have meant from his standpoint when he says,
- 2:40Speaker 1: this guy's a big league pitcher, he should be pitching
- 2:42Speaker 1: in the big leagues. He will be back pitching in
- 2:43Speaker 1: the big leagues at some point, but yet you're the
- 2:46Speaker 1: guy that's ending up packing your backs.
- 2:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I think it was pretty clear, you know, with our
- 2:52Speaker 2: roster construction, especially the bullpen side of it, like, so
- 2:56Speaker 2: you know, where's the flexibility at as a move needs
- 3:00Speaker 2: to be made, And AJ and Josh thinks they were
- 3:05Speaker 2: very clear when they re signed me. Part of my
- 3:08Speaker 2: resigning was the flexibility, and so I was appreciative of
- 3:12Speaker 2: just the upfront ness that I received when it happened.
- 3:15Speaker 2: And it really wasn't a big deal at all. I
- 3:17Speaker 2: wasn't pitching bad, but I wasn't exactly tearing it up either,
- 3:21Speaker 2: So there were some things I kind of went down.
- 3:24Speaker 2: The familiarity with the Triple A coaching staff helped a lot,
- 3:27Speaker 2: so we just kind of hit the ground and worked
- 3:29Speaker 2: on those things, and you know, like I said, opportunity
- 3:33Speaker 2: opened back up and was able to kind of come
- 3:35Speaker 2: come out, come back up, and just jump right in.
- 3:38Speaker 2: So I knew more likely coming into this year I
- 3:40Speaker 2: would spend a little bit of time down there. Hopefully
- 3:43Speaker 2: that that time has been filled, but you know, it
- 3:47Speaker 2: is what it is, and like you said, it's the
- 3:49Speaker 2: business of this game.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Kyle.
- 3:51Speaker 4: I remember a comment you made, I think at the
- 3:52Speaker 4: last home stand after one of your surprise starts, when
- 3:56Speaker 4: you mentioned that there was a time when you were
- 3:57Speaker 4: optioned to El Paso last season and you were in
- 4:00Speaker 4: a very dark place and Craig Stammond, who was a
- 4:03Speaker 4: special assistant to aj pub at the time, really got
- 4:06Speaker 4: you out of that dark place. Could you explain to
- 4:08Speaker 4: us what happened at that time and what you were
- 4:10Speaker 4: feeling and what Stamond's role in all this.
- 4:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't like I don't want people to take
- 4:16Speaker 2: dark Place wrong. I was just I was just kind
- 4:19Speaker 2: of down on myself, and not so much even from
- 4:21Speaker 2: a baseball side. Just you get sent to al Paso.
- 4:24Speaker 2: My family stayed back in San Diego, so I think
- 4:28Speaker 2: it was more so being away from them for the
- 4:31Speaker 2: first time in a while. And you're not where you
- 4:34Speaker 2: want to be, your career is not going the way
- 4:36Speaker 2: you wanted to go. I think that's that's the tough
- 4:39Speaker 2: part of it. But I didn't know Craig really well.
- 4:41Speaker 2: And he came down watched me pitch. I struggled mightily
- 4:46Speaker 2: still starting at that point, and he could tell that
- 4:51Speaker 2: I was not competing the way I needed to be.
- 4:54Speaker 2: I was just out there throwing, hoping things would go
- 4:58Speaker 2: well and that I could find myself back on a
- 5:00Speaker 2: big league roster. And and he kind of lit that fire,
- 5:05Speaker 2: helped me regain that perspective. And then simultaneously we started
- 5:09Speaker 2: to make some some mechanical changes and stuff, and and
- 5:13Speaker 2: so just him coming down there and not going through
- 5:16Speaker 2: the motions as a special assistant, like Hey, Craig, we
- 5:19Speaker 2: need you to go down there and check on some guys.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Like he came down and was willing to to to
- 5:25Speaker 2: to work and to see like who needed help, who
- 5:28Speaker 2: needed who needed to look at some things differently. And
- 5:30Speaker 2: I was certainly one of those guys. So I was
- 5:34Speaker 2: really appreciative of it, and it quite frankly, helped me
- 5:38Speaker 2: kind of get back on track.
- 5:40Speaker 4: You've had, You've had quite the unusual journey in baseball. Really,
- 5:43Speaker 4: it's an incredible story. You make your debut with the
- 5:45Speaker 4: Boston Red Sox Red Socks, excuse me, and then you
- 5:49Speaker 4: don't see you don't see the bigs for for years,
- 5:51Speaker 4: and you get your chance with the Padres. What is
- 5:53Speaker 4: it like for you every single time you get an
- 5:55Speaker 4: opportunity to just to walk into a major league ballpark
- 5:58Speaker 4: and for them to call upon you. Yeah.
- 6:01Speaker 2: I think I use the word perspective again because I
- 6:05Speaker 2: really think I do a good job of not taking
- 6:07Speaker 2: it for granted with how close I was to probably
- 6:10Speaker 2: being out of this game. So every day that I
- 6:13Speaker 2: get to spend time with these guys in the clubhouse,
- 6:18Speaker 2: on the plane, if we go golf or if I'm
- 6:21Speaker 2: just sitting back, you know, watching more home through the
- 6:23Speaker 2: eighth inning. Like, I don't take any of that for granted.
- 6:27Speaker 2: It really is one of the best jobs you can have,
- 6:30Speaker 2: and a really special part for me is just bringing
- 6:33Speaker 2: my family along and getting to experience the things that
- 6:36Speaker 2: we've gotten to as a group. Has probably been one
- 6:40Speaker 2: of my favorite things, because, like I said, I was
- 6:43Speaker 2: really close to probably being done, and and so every
- 6:47Speaker 2: day is a blessing.
- 6:49Speaker 1: When you mentioned close to being done. I don't know
- 6:52Speaker 1: if that's because of you know, surgery, coming out of
- 6:54Speaker 1: college or something along the professional way, but I think
- 6:57Speaker 1: people know. Also a part of your journey has been
- 7:00Speaker 1: pitching in Korea. How did that happen? If you could
- 7:03Speaker 1: tell us a little bit the cliff Notes version of
- 7:05Speaker 1: how Kyle Hart ended up pitching and pitching successfully, I
- 7:09Speaker 1: guess winning the equivalent of the cy Young Award in Korea.
- 7:12Speaker 1: How did that all come about for you?
- 7:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a long story. That's a whole other show.
- 7:17Speaker 2: But the cliff Notes basically, I got on with Tacoma
- 7:22Speaker 2: in twenty three as a depth piece in Triple A,
- 7:26Speaker 2: and that's where this particular Korean team scouted me and
- 7:29Speaker 2: I was throwing eighty nine ninety two maybe and had
- 7:35Speaker 2: no offers in the twenty four offseason, not even a
- 7:39Speaker 2: minor league offer, and the NC Dinos reached out to
- 7:43Speaker 2: my agent. We kind of struck a deal. Obviously, I
- 7:45Speaker 2: didn't have a whole lot to negotiate and went over there.
- 7:51Speaker 2: Probably the biggest cliff note is they helped me with
- 7:54Speaker 2: the sweeper quite a bit, and that pitch propelled that
- 8:01Speaker 2: season for the most part, and then had helped me
- 8:06Speaker 2: get back over here in my opinion. Obviously did some
- 8:08Speaker 2: other things really well too, but was able to stay healthy,
- 8:11Speaker 2: throw one hundred and sixty innings and and learned a
- 8:14Speaker 2: new pitch, you know, so that was really really really crucial.
- 8:19Speaker 1: And the Korean cy Young Award, I hope I'm going
- 8:22Speaker 1: to go right here, the Choi dong Wan Award. Is
- 8:25Speaker 1: that right?
- 8:25Speaker 2: That's correct? Yeah? You should you should google that that
- 8:29Speaker 2: that man uh after this and and look at the
- 8:32Speaker 2: career that that guy had. I think he in one
- 8:35Speaker 2: of the Korean series. It's a seven game series. I
- 8:37Speaker 2: think he threw three of the five games or something,
- 8:42Speaker 2: and they were all complete games. I seriously, you should
- 8:45Speaker 2: look him up though, he's crazy.
- 8:47Speaker 1: Where is that award? Is that with an arms distance?
- 8:49Speaker 1: Do you have it with you or is it someone?
- 8:51Speaker 2: Well? I do not, I do not. It's in Cincinnati
- 8:53Speaker 2: at home. Yeah, I wish it's really cool.
- 8:56Speaker 4: Before we take this first break, Kyle can can you
- 8:58Speaker 4: give us what did you learn any Korean? Much? Do
- 9:00Speaker 4: you have a phrase?
- 9:05Speaker 2: My favorite phrase is susan daw, which is basically what
- 9:10Speaker 2: you say after a game, whether you win or you lose,
- 9:13Speaker 2: you say susan daw. And that's just a quick way
- 9:15Speaker 2: of saying like, hey, we worked hard today. You know,
- 9:18Speaker 2: way to play hard. So I say it to I
- 9:20Speaker 2: say it to Mooney every day. You say it whether
- 9:22Speaker 2: we win or lose.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Mooney's a character, he's he is sneaky, funny. I love
- 9:29Speaker 4: talking to that guy.
- 9:30Speaker 1: I'm sure he does.
- 9:31Speaker 2: Last time.
- 9:32Speaker 1: I'll stick around here for a second. We do you know,
- 9:34Speaker 1: want to talk a little bit about the Brewers, about
- 9:36Speaker 1: the season? Uh, and continue this conversation. We'll take a
- 9:39Speaker 1: quick time out here on Friar Territory. We will return
- 9:41Speaker 1: Kyle Hart picture with the San Diego Padres. We'll hang
- 9:43Speaker 1: with us here for a couple of more minutes when
- 9:45Speaker 1: we return after this.
- 9:48Speaker 3: Seek is the official ticket marketplace for Major League Baseball,
- 9:51Speaker 3: and anytime you want to go to a game, you
- 9:53Speaker 3: should go to Seakeek. I used to call the director
- 9:55Speaker 3: of team travel, I used to call the traveling secretary
- 9:57Speaker 3: whatever they want to be called KP to try to
- 9:59Speaker 3: get seat, But on sea Geek, I can pick my
- 10:02Speaker 3: own seat and I can pick where I want to
- 10:04Speaker 3: sit instead of being told where to sit.
- 10:07Speaker 5: Yeah, it's a great option. And summer is coming to
- 10:10Speaker 5: an end here soon. I'm going out and finding all
- 10:14Speaker 5: the day games possible, all the warm weather cities so
- 10:18Speaker 5: I could stay in this tank top. I can watch
- 10:20Speaker 5: very competitive baseball as the calendar turns in two fall.
- 10:24Speaker 5: I want to make sure that I get the most
- 10:27Speaker 5: out of this tank top and warm weather and sea
- 10:30Speaker 5: Geek is where I would go and get my seats.
- 10:32Speaker 3: You can use code territory ten for ten percent off

- 10:50Speaker 1: of the Foul Territory Network. Subscribe on YouTube wherever it
- 10:53Speaker 1: is that you get your audio podcast. We appreciate some
- 10:55Speaker 1: more of his time. Kyle Hart hanging with us here today.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Thirty one games pitch for the Pods in twenty twenty six,
- 11:00Speaker 1: four games started, five games finished. So it's just funny
- 11:03Speaker 1: to look at the stat sheets see guys like Kyle
- 11:05Speaker 1: and Wandi Peralta and some of the unique stats that
- 11:09Speaker 1: you know, the Padres have just had to build through
- 11:11Speaker 1: here this season. Before we just look ahea it. I
- 11:13Speaker 1: just have one quick question because I know you went
- 11:15Speaker 1: to Indiana University, which defending college football champs all of
- 11:19Speaker 1: a sudden college football power. I grew up thinking about
- 11:22Speaker 1: Indiana as a basketball school. I know there were a
- 11:25Speaker 1: really good soccer school. I worked for the Major League
- 11:27Speaker 1: Soccer team here. I think there's more Hoosiers in MLS
- 11:29Speaker 1: than any other university. You also, though, were teammates with
- 11:32Speaker 1: Kyle Schwarber when you went to Indiana. You guys were
- 11:36Speaker 1: on the team together for a couple of years. Had
- 11:38Speaker 1: you end up in Indiana, tell us a little bit
- 11:39Speaker 1: about that. Experience, and obviously everybody knows what Kyle Schwarber's
- 11:43Speaker 1: become in this league.
- 11:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Actually, the reason I got to Indiana was Schwarber.
- 11:49Speaker 2: We were playing summer ball together in Cincinnati for a
- 11:52Speaker 2: couple of years and he had a few school He
- 11:56Speaker 2: was almost going to be a Big ten football player.
- 11:58Speaker 2: I mean, he was an unbelievable linebacker, but he chose baseball.
- 12:04Speaker 2: Indiana was one of his kind of his top schools,
- 12:07Speaker 2: and he signed there really early, like early junior year
- 12:11Speaker 2: of high school, which is late now for the recruiting process,
- 12:14Speaker 2: but back in that year, it was pretty early, and
- 12:18Speaker 2: he told me, hey, you need to check this place out.
- 12:20Speaker 2: I was like a lanky left he throwing eighty five
- 12:23Speaker 2: to eighty six, which back then again was not terrible.
- 12:27Speaker 2: And I went over there. They offered me a small
- 12:30Speaker 2: scholarship and ended up committing. So he was the reason
- 12:34Speaker 2: I got there, and then we played three years together.
- 12:36Speaker 2: I stayed five due to injury, and he got drafted
- 12:39Speaker 2: in twenty fourteen and had a crazy quick path to
- 12:44Speaker 2: the big leagues and has never looked back.
- 12:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and now here he is right like setting all
- 12:49Speaker 1: sorts of records. What he has become in this league
- 12:52Speaker 1: is absolutely incredible. Kyle, h to the here and now
- 12:55Speaker 1: with the.
- 12:55Speaker 2: Po He's the same player too, Sorry to cut you off.
- 12:58Speaker 2: He's the same player since we were sixteen years old. Like,
- 13:02Speaker 2: he didn't get drafted out of high school and there
- 13:04Speaker 2: was forty rounds. I remember being in some middle of
- 13:08Speaker 2: nowhere tournament in Ohio and he did not get drafted,
- 13:13Speaker 2: And I'm like, if this guy can't get drafted in
- 13:15Speaker 2: a forty round draft, I'm not going to ever play.
- 13:19Speaker 2: And he's been the same guy. You could ask him,
- 13:21Speaker 2: he's the same hit or just the same amount of power.
- 13:23Speaker 2: He had more speed back then, but.
- 13:27Speaker 1: Light tower power. Man, his chip is real places I've
- 13:30Speaker 1: never seen a Peco Park, like, I've just seen him.
- 13:33Speaker 1: You know. I'm sorry to you, Darvish, but like, I've
- 13:35Speaker 1: never seen a ball go as far as that at
- 13:37Speaker 1: Peco Park, and he's done it in other parks as well.
- 13:40Speaker 1: So yeah, he's he's definitely a character here. I'm really
- 13:44Speaker 1: a symbol of modern baseball as well. Kyle. You know
- 13:46Speaker 1: this team now passed the trade deadline. You started four
- 13:48Speaker 1: times this year. I think it's so interesting that you know,
- 13:51Speaker 1: you've really become a glue guy for the podres. You know,
- 13:53Speaker 1: in an era where we often think that players want
- 13:56Speaker 1: to have to find roles. I need to know what
- 13:58Speaker 1: my role is, right because that's how I'm going to
- 13:59Speaker 1: best form. Your role is like, hey, I don't I
- 14:02Speaker 1: don't need it to be defined, you know, tell me
- 14:04Speaker 1: if I'm going to start, tell me a couple hours
- 14:06Speaker 1: before the game, what do you need me to do
- 14:07Speaker 1: in the middle? What do you need me to do today, tomorrow, wherever?
- 14:10Speaker 1: Which is really it's a lot different and contrary to
- 14:13Speaker 1: everything we've learned about about baseball players. Now we're through
- 14:16Speaker 1: the trade deadline, tell us what it was like for
- 14:18Speaker 1: the team that run that you went on right before
- 14:21Speaker 1: the deadline, and then watching a couple of starting pictures
- 14:23Speaker 1: come walking through the door there obviously Casey Maiz, we
- 14:26Speaker 1: saw what he did last night. Or see Robbie Ray
- 14:28Speaker 1: for the second time on Wednesday? What does that mean
- 14:30Speaker 1: inside of a clubhouse when you guys fight your tails
- 14:32Speaker 1: off to put yourself in a position that your general
- 14:35Speaker 1: manager goes yes, like we're going to invest in this team.
- 14:39Speaker 2: Yeah. So let me start with I think the Praig
- 14:45Speaker 2: pulled me in spring training. My role was going to
- 14:47Speaker 2: be a Swiss Army knife. So none of what's happened
- 14:49Speaker 2: this year has been a surprise at all. Doesn't make
- 14:52Speaker 2: it easy, No, it doesn't make it easy. But I
- 14:55Speaker 2: knew that this was going to be the case. I think,
- 15:02Speaker 2: you know, the trade deadline, This is kind of my
- 15:04Speaker 2: first experience of really like seeing it up close. Obviously,
- 15:07Speaker 2: I think last year I was in l Passo during it.
- 15:11Speaker 2: I look back at that Marlin series, those swings that
- 15:15Speaker 2: Manny and Jackson took. I was sitting in the bullpen
- 15:19Speaker 2: down there watching those. I think it was back to
- 15:21Speaker 2: back home runs to win the game, basically, And that's
- 15:24Speaker 2: kind of when I knew, like, hey, we just battled
- 15:27Speaker 2: our butts off this ten game road trip. It didn't
- 15:30Speaker 2: start well, it ended well. This could this could kind
- 15:33Speaker 2: of be the switch that we needed. And I think
- 15:36Speaker 2: it was personally and then you know, Peler got aggressive
- 15:41Speaker 2: at the deadline and brought into really really good arms.
- 15:46Speaker 2: Obviously we saw it last night. I think the biggest
- 15:48Speaker 2: thing for me that I've known, professionalism that those guys
- 15:51Speaker 2: have brought is amazing, and you know you're not going
- 15:56Speaker 2: to get to know them in one day. And I
- 15:58Speaker 2: think it's a slow burn, but so far they've been
- 16:02Speaker 2: really great, and just watching them the way they do things,
- 16:06Speaker 2: the way that they go about their daily stuff, has
- 16:09Speaker 2: been something that I've learned from and something that's going
- 16:12Speaker 2: to be great for us moving forward.
- 16:18Speaker 6: For the families out there looking for a new path
- 16:21Speaker 6: to help your child succeed, take a look at K

- 17:16Speaker 4: Kyle, I know that we're we're scoreboard watching. I'd imagine
- 17:18Speaker 4: that you guys are as well. But how how big
- 17:21Speaker 4: was that win last night? And if you're looking up,
- 17:23Speaker 4: you see you know, the d Backs and they were
- 17:26Speaker 4: blowing away the Rockies.
- 17:28Speaker 5: You know, the Phillies had.
- 17:29Speaker 4: Already won that game, but to win the way you
- 17:31Speaker 4: guys did a good start from Ksemi's rebound start, a
- 17:34Speaker 4: huge home run from Jackson Merrill, who's just been on
- 17:36Speaker 4: a different level lately, and then Mason miller morehone during
- 17:39Speaker 4: what they do. I feel like that was like a
- 17:41Speaker 4: signature win for the Padres.
- 17:44Speaker 2: Yeah, that was definitely kind of classic Padres right there,
- 17:47Speaker 2: especially against a team like that, you know, the way
- 17:50Speaker 2: they throw the ball, I mean really the way they
- 17:52Speaker 2: do everything. It could it could be a tight one,
- 17:55Speaker 2: you know, and obviously their guy was really really good
- 17:59Speaker 2: as he has been, so that's what it's going to take.
- 18:02Speaker 2: As a swing like that, you know, you get it,
- 18:04Speaker 2: you get a one out knock and a homer and
- 18:06Speaker 2: and then you've got to take advantage from our end
- 18:08Speaker 2: and the bullpen, and we did that. So uh, I
- 18:12Speaker 2: think when you're you know, you're facing the Brewers, it's
- 18:14Speaker 2: going to be tough again tonight. They've got one of
- 18:16Speaker 2: their guys going and their bullpen's probably you know, back
- 18:18Speaker 2: to strength. So I can't be more proud of Jackson
- 18:23Speaker 2: and just how well he's he's stuck with it. You know.
- 18:27Speaker 2: I know it didn't start well for him, but the
- 18:29Speaker 2: process hasn't changed, and now he's starting to see some results.
- 18:32Speaker 2: And I think the whole team is just so so
- 18:34Speaker 2: happy for him and and and ready to just roll
- 18:37Speaker 2: when he rolls.
- 18:38Speaker 1: You know, last thing, Kyle you mentioned in Miami, you
- 18:42Speaker 1: are sitting next to Mason Miller, and you know, we've
- 18:44Speaker 1: loved watching Mason and the whole bullpen. I mean, it's
- 18:47Speaker 1: truly one of the great strengths in the sport. He sometimes,
- 18:51Speaker 1: you know, he's got to get ready quickly, right because
- 18:53Speaker 1: you guys have had some of these laden and comebacks
- 18:55Speaker 1: seventh inning on Monday night. We've seen it in the
- 18:58Speaker 1: A thing right for all of you guys, you know,
- 19:00Speaker 1: what is that? What is that like when you're there
- 19:03Speaker 1: right and you know, I'm sure you guys are chatty
- 19:05Speaker 1: a little bit. You know, baseball is kind of a
- 19:06Speaker 1: long game. What's it like though, when the switch gets
- 19:09Speaker 1: flipped for you, for him, for guys in that bullpen,
- 19:12Speaker 1: when it's like okay, red alert, time to go.
- 19:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, part part of my growing experience has
- 19:21Speaker 2: been learning how to flip the switch. I always said
- 19:24Speaker 2: when I was starting, I don't understand how the relievers
- 19:27Speaker 2: do what they do. You know, I felt like I
- 19:30Speaker 2: needed thirty forty minutes. You need all this prep time
- 19:33Speaker 2: and everything. So learning how to flip that switch has
- 19:36Speaker 2: been key for me, and I've learned it from guys
- 19:40Speaker 2: like Wandy. I mean, watching Wandy is is really been
- 19:44Speaker 2: a big, a big learning piece for me because he's
- 19:46Speaker 2: he's been that Swiss army knife two for us this year.
- 19:49Speaker 2: But but Mason and morohone are are so good at
- 19:54Speaker 2: it two to where they can be present with you
- 19:58Speaker 2: and then all of a sudden, you know, you get
- 20:00Speaker 2: that two out home run or that that two run
- 20:02Speaker 2: homer and more hones in the game like ten seconds later.
- 20:05Speaker 2: You know, So they have that they have that ability
- 20:09Speaker 2: to be so even keel, but they know in the
- 20:12Speaker 2: back of their mind that one swing a couple at
- 20:15Speaker 2: bats and this game can get flipped on its head
- 20:18Speaker 2: and then you know. But that's that level of professionalism
- 20:21Speaker 2: that we kind of try to carry down there. Mason
- 20:24Speaker 2: brought it over. It's not like he learned it here.
- 20:26Speaker 2: He had it, you know. But they also have that
- 20:30Speaker 2: sixth sense of they know that at any point things
- 20:34Speaker 2: can change, especially with our offense, and so they they
- 20:37Speaker 2: never really kind of count themselves out.
- 20:41Speaker 4: Wait a second, really really quick to clarify there. So
- 20:43Speaker 4: it's a difficulty in flipping the switch in that situation.
- 20:45Speaker 4: But you can flip a switch the day of and
- 20:47Speaker 4: get a text message and find out that you're starting.
- 20:50Speaker 4: That to me is you.
- 20:51Speaker 2: Have hours even when you get the TAXX.
- 20:54Speaker 1: You know, right, all right, well why don't you want
- 20:57Speaker 1: to know, by the way, the night before if you're starting?
- 20:59Speaker 1: Is it just something?
- 21:01Speaker 2: No? No, no. So so they give me, some of
- 21:05Speaker 2: these guys give me a hard time about it, but
- 21:06Speaker 2: really what it is is I'm in the bullpen. I'm
- 21:10Speaker 2: in the bullpen and a couple of times like I've
- 21:13Speaker 2: been getting ready to pitch in that night's game, you know,
- 21:16Speaker 2: and then we win or we lose or whatever happens
- 21:20Speaker 2: the game's over. The last thing I want to do
- 21:22Speaker 2: is come in from the game we were just playing
- 21:25Speaker 2: and be like, hey, get ready to pitch tomorrow. You're starting,
- 21:28Speaker 2: Like I need to give me a few minutes, you know,
- 21:30Speaker 2: So like I just like to kind of decompress, think
- 21:33Speaker 2: about the game we just played, come down off of,
- 21:38Speaker 2: you know, whatever you were feeling, and then wake up
- 21:40Speaker 2: the next day, reset and go from there. So it's
- 21:43Speaker 2: kind of just it's just like a clean slate thing
- 21:45Speaker 2: for me. I got it. Yeah.
- 21:47Speaker 1: I mean, you don't want to feel like you're You're
- 21:48Speaker 1: like you're pitching the same game two days in a row, right, Yeah, Like,
- 21:52Speaker 1: give me a break here. I gotta feel like there's
- 21:54Speaker 1: a little bit of separation. It's not just this one long,
- 21:57Speaker 1: long ass a baseball game. So I think that makes
- 21:59Speaker 1: it in a sense. This has been a pleasure. It's
- 22:01Speaker 1: been our pleasure, Kyle. Thank you very much for taking
- 22:03Speaker 1: the time. You know, we've certainly enjoyed watching you pitch
- 22:06Speaker 1: and all the different roles that you've been asked to
- 22:08Speaker 1: perform in and we appreciate it. Thanks very much, good luck,
- 22:11Speaker 1: and we're enjoying the run here. It's a lot of fun.
- 22:15Speaker 2: Thank you guys so much, had a great time.
