- 0:00Speaker 1: Coming up on Relatables Baddy's book Club. Khle West Fall
- 0:04Speaker 1: it fucking collapped. What it's Kale?
- 0:08Speaker 2: No, it's not, it's kale Is. That's Kale. I wish
- 0:12Speaker 2: the name. It's that's how you spell it. It's kale dude.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Welcome to Relatables Baddies book Club, where we will embark
- 0:20Speaker 3: on a journey reading some of the finest pieces of
- 0:22Speaker 3: literature you have ever laid eyes or he is if
- 0:25Speaker 3: that's your preferred way to consume a book.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Throne of Glass, chapters one through to ten. We've done it.
- 0:35Speaker 2: We've done it. We've come back finally.
- 0:39Speaker 1: That's a feel, Jake. I mean it feels good. I
- 0:42Speaker 1: don't know, it kind of feels exciting. We had a
- 0:46Speaker 1: break from the book club and a lot of people
- 0:49Speaker 1: were sad. I'll say the emotion was. But I feel
- 0:53Speaker 1: like it's had a really good effect on me. Tell
- 0:57Speaker 1: me how you feel in a sense of like, I'm
- 0:59Speaker 1: excited to read. Oh I've always been excited, like to
- 1:03Speaker 1: read Slash do the book club?
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I would say I'm excited to do
- 1:07Speaker 2: the book club. The only thing with this one is
- 1:08Speaker 2: I finished this book already.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Yes, Jake, finished this book already, which is actually going
- 1:13Speaker 1: to work in our favor a little bit, because I
- 1:15Speaker 1: feel like Jake is going to be a bit more
- 1:17Speaker 1: about the audience's side, and I'm going to be the
- 1:20Speaker 1: novice than.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Yoube who's reading things and being in it for the
- 1:23Speaker 2: first time. Yeah. So I picked up Throwing a Glass
- 1:27Speaker 2: at the airport like three weeks ago, maybe four weeks ago,
- 1:30Speaker 2: I don't know how long ago, and at that point
- 1:33Speaker 2: in time we had like ideas of bringing it back.
- 1:35Speaker 2: But I was just like I was at the airport.
- 1:38Speaker 2: I forgot my kindle and I saw throwing a glass
- 1:39Speaker 2: and I was like, fuck it, there's no time at
- 1:41Speaker 2: the present. Like if we're not doing it on book Club,
- 1:43Speaker 2: we're not doing it on book Club. And then I
- 1:45Speaker 2: told Oddie or I think I put on the story,
- 1:47Speaker 2: like guys, I'm doing it. And then Oddie was like, fuck,
- 1:49Speaker 2: I shit, maybe I'll read it as well. And so
- 1:53Speaker 2: ODDI goes and buys the whole series. You've got the
- 1:55Speaker 2: whole series, right, I do, Yeah, it was on sale.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I so I only have Thrown of Glass Stel And
- 2:03Speaker 2: then Addie like, we come up with this plan of
- 2:05Speaker 2: how we're going to do it. And then I was like, well,
- 2:09Speaker 2: fuck like, I'm not waiting, and I just I kept
- 2:11Speaker 2: reading and I finished the book and so.
- 2:13Speaker 1: I honestly, to be honest, Jake told me he was
- 2:15Speaker 1: at chapter twenty five, and I thought what we were
- 2:17Speaker 1: saying meant he would pause at chapter twenty four. I
- 2:19Speaker 1: was like, fuck your way, like this guy, then we
- 2:22Speaker 1: can read it. And then he said a week later,
- 2:24Speaker 1: fucking up done. I was like, the lowest fucking reading,
- 2:28Speaker 1: and I was thinking, fuck it, now I'm being nice
- 2:30Speaker 1: and not picking up the second book. It wasn't even
- 2:32Speaker 1: I was a slow reader. We didn't have fucking time
- 2:35Speaker 1: to record the book club. I hadn't even started reading yet.
- 2:39Speaker 2: So everyone tell Oddie to pick up the fucking pace
- 2:42Speaker 2: so I can read the second one, because I'm going
- 2:45Speaker 2: to read the second one with him.
- 2:46Speaker 1: Man, if we're going down that avenue, the book club
- 2:49Speaker 1: is happening. If you was up to you, you'd just
- 2:51Speaker 1: be reading and not fucking doing anything.
- 2:53Speaker 2: If I started a book club on my own, I'd
- 2:55Speaker 2: read it and I'd do one episode and then I'd
- 2:56Speaker 2: read all the rest of them and forget to film episodes. Yeah, exactly.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Yeah, the structure comes from me, and the energy comes
- 3:05Speaker 1: from Jake.
- 3:05Speaker 2: I will say, Okay, disclaimer is we're reading Throne of
- 3:10Speaker 2: Glass first and The Assassin's Blade third. All right, we
- 3:14Speaker 2: just want to let the batties know.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Obviously it's not the chronological order, but it seemed the
- 3:17Speaker 1: way to do it. No, it is the chronological I
- 3:20Speaker 1: believe that.
- 3:21Speaker 2: So, no, it's not chronological order, but it is the
- 3:24Speaker 2: date of release order. Yeah, I believe it's the release order.
- 3:27Speaker 2: But everyone's sad to do it this way.
- 3:29Speaker 1: From my fifteen minutes of research, fifteen minutes, I'm giving
- 3:31Speaker 1: it too much that.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Three minutes I went down a rabbit hole. I had
- 3:34Speaker 2: one person be like, I highly highly highly recommend reading
- 3:38Speaker 2: it after everything, and I was like, okay, cool, and
- 3:41Speaker 2: I put that on my story and everyone was like, no, no,
- 3:43Speaker 2: don't do it. Don't do word shit.
- 3:46Speaker 1: And what I've learned from reading is it is a
- 3:50Speaker 1: very very opinionated community, which is good, but also like
- 3:55Speaker 1: it definitely plays on my side.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I think that's what ruined Fourth Wing for me. Okay.
- 3:59Speaker 1: I think I had this expectation that it was going
- 4:01Speaker 1: to be amazing because of what everyone told me, and
- 4:04Speaker 1: then I got into it and I felt like I
- 4:06Speaker 1: was underwhelmed because of the expectation everyone had set for it. Yeah,
- 4:09Speaker 1: whereas going into Agatar, we were both very, very blind
- 4:12Speaker 1: and I was like experiencing it for the first time,
- 4:14Speaker 1: which is what I've done with this book.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I know nothing.
- 4:16Speaker 1: I haven't seen a single thing online about Turn of Glass.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I've left it that way. I want to read like
- 4:20Speaker 1: at least half of this book and get my own
- 4:22Speaker 1: thoughts and feelings before I start watching other AI or
- 4:25Speaker 1: this shit. I know there's not a dramatized version of it,
- 4:27Speaker 1: but I think.
- 4:28Speaker 2: That there is. Some AI hasn't come up for me yet,
- 4:32Speaker 2: but I felt the same. It was good reading this
- 4:34Speaker 2: without knowing anything. Like the only thing I knew about
- 4:37Speaker 2: this book is that there's a character named Dorian, but
- 4:39Speaker 2: I knew nothing about what he was, who he was.
- 4:43Speaker 1: And I think, I think that's the best way to
- 4:45Speaker 1: do it. And like we said, we are nubes noobs.
- 4:47Speaker 1: One of the books that you've been reading, actually, because
- 4:49Speaker 1: you're a bit of an expert.
- 4:51Speaker 2: I've read I'm apparently reading one called Daggermouth hmm, and
- 4:55Speaker 2: it's pretty cool, but.
- 4:57Speaker 1: It's the wistuff everything you've read and finished. Oh, shit
- 5:00Speaker 1: all of them, just like quickly.
- 5:01Speaker 2: You've read Rising, So I've read the whole Red Riser series,
- 5:04Speaker 2: waiting for the last book of that. I've read Two
- 5:06Speaker 2: Twisted Crowns, which was a duology. I've read both of
- 5:08Speaker 2: those books. I've read The Will of the Many. There's
- 5:11Speaker 2: a second book of that, but the ending of the
- 5:12Speaker 2: Will of the Minute Will of the Many was confusing.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I have read obviously Akatar. I finished Fourth Wing. I
- 5:20Speaker 2: finished the whole series. Iron Flame was a grind, but
- 5:23Speaker 2: in the end I got to say, the ending is
- 5:24Speaker 2: pretty cool, and then the next books is actually pretty
- 5:26Speaker 2: cool as well. And what else have I read?
- 5:30Speaker 1: Oh?
- 5:30Speaker 2: Project Hell Mary, good book? Yeah, good book. I need
- 5:34Speaker 2: my kindo here. I got some fucking shit on that thing, mate.
- 5:37Speaker 1: I started the theory, how that's not really it's like
- 5:41Speaker 1: self help you fantasy?
- 5:43Speaker 2: And then I'm reading Bye is that by? Who's that?
- 5:46Speaker 2: By Mel Robins?
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah it is, That's what I was going to say. Yeah,
- 5:49Speaker 1: my mum's read that. She said it was really good.
- 5:50Speaker 2: I read it at three and one night when I
- 5:52Speaker 2: couldn't fall back slop. Oh, fair, fair, fair baddies. Why
- 5:55Speaker 2: I got Jake to do that?
- 5:57Speaker 1: Is comment below I've been telling him to do this
- 6:00Speaker 1: every time he reads, because he'll read that ten twenty
- 6:01Speaker 1: chapters at a time, record a one minute video after
- 6:04Speaker 1: it of his thoughts and feelings and posted on his
- 6:06Speaker 1: personal Instagram. So comment Bela if you want that, because
- 6:09Speaker 1: I'll give it to him. He reads a lot quicker
- 6:10Speaker 1: than me, and his heart's really moving. But I tell
- 6:15Speaker 1: you I've hadn't, don't you. I've had that idea, and
- 6:17Speaker 1: I've I've filmed one after after our conversation, and then
- 6:22Speaker 1: like six months later, nothing's happening. I filmed one and
- 6:24Speaker 1: then I just don't know why. I just fucking I
- 6:26Speaker 1: can't do it. You could hold a gun to my
- 6:28Speaker 1: head and I wouldn't do it. To start, I thought
- 6:30Speaker 1: it'd be fun to just list off some characters and
- 6:33Speaker 1: you can tell me if I've got the pronunciation right.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Okay, cool, I'm pretty confident with the pronunciations.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Okay, let's start with the main character, Selena Sarah Dothian.
- 6:46Speaker 2: So it's yeah, Selena. I think it's Sara Doothian. Oh,
- 6:51Speaker 2: Sarah Dothian. I don't really know. I was only going
- 6:55Speaker 2: first names, but I think it's like Sara Doothian is
- 6:57Speaker 2: what I was saying in my head. But Selena is
- 6:59Speaker 2: right because you could say Selena, but I think.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think it's Selena. I got confirmed, which
- 7:05Speaker 1: is the main character. Very cool to start as well,
- 7:07Speaker 1: but we'll get into that. Khole west Fall, it fucking collapped.
- 7:13Speaker 1: What it's Kale?
- 7:16Speaker 2: No, it's not right. It's kale is. That's Kale Irish
- 7:20Speaker 2: the name, it's that's how you spell it. It's Kale,
- 7:23Speaker 2: dude ira comment for Loway.
- 7:25Speaker 1: I have got in confirmation from the baddies already it's Kale.
- 7:29Speaker 1: The reason I think you're wrong is I'm listening to
- 7:31Speaker 1: Drum the normal audio book when I'm reading it it's
- 7:35Speaker 1: Khle really because I thought it was Kale two But
- 7:38Speaker 1: Kale is Kle.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I know. And that's the.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Irish pronunciation of and how to spell it because I
- 7:46Speaker 1: watched a video and one of his blogger's friend's name
- 7:48Speaker 1: is Khole.
- 7:48Speaker 2: And he's spelled c h a O L. Hey, look,
- 7:52Speaker 2: she might have chosen an Irish name, but the only
- 7:54Speaker 2: I'm only getting my confirmations from the baddies, okay, and
- 7:58Speaker 2: so I'm trusting them.
- 8:00Speaker 1: And then we've got Dorian that one's easy, easy, have
- 8:03Speaker 1: a lot. I don't think they pronounce heavily. The King
- 8:08Speaker 1: of Adria Adrian.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Pretty sure it's the King of like Ardan or Arden
- 8:14Speaker 2: or something. Yeah, they just say the king keeps hate. Yeah,
- 8:19Speaker 2: I haven't heard his name. I don't know if you
- 8:20Speaker 2: know his name. I think you just say the king.
- 8:23Speaker 2: That's all I got for characters. Oh yeah, wait, so
- 8:25Speaker 2: there's actually others that come in that I've been tricky
- 8:28Speaker 2: to pronounce. But you'll get there, Okay, you're just assume
- 8:30Speaker 2: the audio book you'd have like Sarah J. Mess being like, Yep,
- 8:33Speaker 2: that's how you do it, that's he do it. That's
- 8:34Speaker 2: why I thought I was right.
- 8:35Speaker 1: But I also I'm pretty sure I've seen a clip
- 8:37Speaker 1: of her somewhere being like, I don't care how people
- 8:39Speaker 1: pronounce anything, like do what you want?
- 8:41Speaker 2: True?
- 8:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and yeah, I don't know. It's just the audio
- 8:46Speaker 1: book too, so I don't know how much or Sarah J.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Mass actually had, like being involved in that ship.
- 8:50Speaker 2: It's true.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Uh Indobia talking about places now, yeah, that's I think
- 8:55Speaker 1: that's right. That's how I was pronouncing it. Riff, hold
- 8:58Speaker 1: up the city of Yeah, there's a t in there.
- 9:01Speaker 1: Rif told. I think it's riffed.
- 9:03Speaker 2: I think, And then how do you say? Is it
- 9:07Speaker 2: l the homeland.
- 9:11Speaker 3: L we?
- 9:13Speaker 1: Oh?
- 9:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I actually am not one hundred percent sure, Like
- 9:15Speaker 2: do you are you talking about E L W y
- 9:19Speaker 2: E or something like that? Yeah, e y double l Y.
- 9:22Speaker 2: And I was saying, I was saying, like al we
- 9:24Speaker 2: or something like that. That's weird. You got I gotta
- 9:26Speaker 2: get how the fuck does A J. Mass come up with? Well,
- 9:28Speaker 2: here's the thing is, like I have a feeling that
- 9:31Speaker 2: she probably like the reason the values is saying it's
- 9:33Speaker 2: pronounced kale is because I assume Sarah J. Mass is
- 9:37Speaker 2: on the on the book somewhere saying I say it
- 9:39Speaker 2: like this like kale. But then she wanted she didn't
- 9:41Speaker 2: want to just be like k early because that's boring.
- 9:43Speaker 1: So she's like, look, can I do c H fucking
- 9:47Speaker 1: ao L like to be fair, That's how I do
- 9:49Speaker 1: when I have kids, just fucking have the normal pronunciation
- 9:53Speaker 1: but spell it weird. Yeah, that's why I want to
- 9:54Speaker 1: name my kid kale and have it's pronounce the same
- 9:56Speaker 1: as kle West For.
- 9:57Speaker 2: You want to name your kid k oh.
- 9:58Speaker 1: You said that, I've said it the other day. Yeah,
- 10:00Speaker 1: and I was like, okay, h is that where you
- 10:02Speaker 1: got it from? And I didn't start reading yet. Yeah
- 10:06Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 10:06Speaker 2: I didn't didn't click with me.
- 10:08Speaker 1: But like, here's the thing is, you could be right
- 10:09Speaker 1: on the pronunciation of that, because yeah, on the technicality
- 10:14Speaker 1: type thing, but I guess subjectively, I'm right.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Yeah. We're recapping every chapter, thoughts and theories to every
- 10:25Speaker 2: plan twist. We'll break it down for you.
- 10:30Speaker 1: Okay, Jake, as we said, I have read chapters one
- 10:33Speaker 1: through to ten.
- 10:34Speaker 2: You've finished the books.
- 10:36Speaker 1: Let's just give a brief summer summary of where we're at,
- 10:40Speaker 1: what we're feeling a little bit with the start of
- 10:43Speaker 1: the book. If you could go back in the timeline
- 10:45Speaker 1: six months ago, probably not six months.
- 10:46Speaker 2: When did you start reading this, like like three and
- 10:49Speaker 2: a half, four weeks ago. Yes, it's still freshening your mind.
- 10:51Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, no, the whole books. Yeah, okay, Yeah,
- 10:54Speaker 2: that's good.
- 10:55Speaker 1: Well, we meet Selena Sarah Dothian in the salt mines
- 11:00Speaker 1: of Endovia.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:02Speaker 1: Initially I was like, fucking, it's pretty cool. I love
- 11:04Speaker 1: that kind of stuff. Hey, I can picture like her.
- 11:07Speaker 1: She's a slave. Yeah, and we find out that she
- 11:11Speaker 1: was Adriana's most notorious assassin.
- 11:15Speaker 2: I kind of think it's cool, the only I think
- 11:18Speaker 2: Originally I thought it was cool how it's like you're
- 11:20Speaker 2: meeting a prisoner. Yeah, I thought that was cool.
- 11:24Speaker 1: I think it is like you weren't chucked into the
- 11:26Speaker 1: deep end and so mass does that a fair bit.
- 11:29Speaker 2: But it was just like interesting, That's how I'll say
- 11:31Speaker 2: I felt. I was intrigued by that. Yeah, I always
- 11:34Speaker 2: struggle with like, I don't think I have like the
- 11:37Speaker 2: craziest imagination either. It's like I always like when they're
- 11:41Speaker 2: talking about like the fucking salt mines or whatever, and
- 11:43Speaker 2: how she's a prisoner, Like I genuinely was just thinking
- 11:46Speaker 2: of just like a small woman in just like rags
- 11:48Speaker 2: for clothing, shackled out. But I didn't think of that.
- 11:52Speaker 2: I can't picture the minds properly. Like what I just
- 11:54Speaker 2: picture is her just like sitting in a cave fucking
- 11:57Speaker 2: like shackled up with.
- 11:58Speaker 1: Some Now I was sort of the similar I've watched
- 12:02Speaker 1: a lot of Star Trek and they've been prisoner on
- 12:06Speaker 1: a lot of other worlds, and I was kind of
- 12:09Speaker 1: picturing that with a bit of like high techie I know,
- 12:11Speaker 1: it's set in the olden time, but like that in
- 12:13Speaker 1: the background is what I was initially thinking.
- 12:15Speaker 2: Yeah, valid with Star Wars.
- 12:17Speaker 1: And then she was being escorted by Kale or Kejo
- 12:20Speaker 1: west Fall, the captain of the Royal Guard. That sounds
- 12:24Speaker 1: such a cool fucking title is Royal Guard.
- 12:26Speaker 2: What they have in Canada? Is that? What that was?
- 12:27Speaker 2: Now that's our CMP, Royal Royal Mounted Canadian Police. Oh
- 12:33Speaker 2: it's close enough. Pretty good god, But so yeah, it
- 12:36Speaker 2: was pretty sick because she's like straight away thinking, all right,
- 12:38Speaker 2: who's this fucking guy leading me somewhere? And she's like,
- 12:41Speaker 2: you know, I don't really get led anywhere that often.
- 12:44Speaker 2: And it's kind of funny, like every turn they take,
- 12:46Speaker 2: she goes, oh, he's trying to fuck around with me,
- 12:48Speaker 2: Like I know that We've just taken the same term
- 12:50Speaker 2: like four times, so I know exactly how to get
- 12:53Speaker 2: out if need be. But also Kale just like doesn't
- 12:56Speaker 2: show his face for a while at least. Yeah, and
- 12:59Speaker 2: she's and know that he's really young, does she?
- 13:01Speaker 1: Yeah, we find out that they're both or Kales leading
- 13:05Speaker 1: Selena to the Crown Prince of Adriana, which is Dorian.
- 13:09Speaker 2: Is it Adriana so I thought it was our Dan.
- 13:16Speaker 1: Look, I could be wrong. Is it on the back
- 13:18Speaker 1: of the really wrong? This is what's good about the
- 13:20Speaker 1: first episode. Yeah, we get corrected.
- 13:23Speaker 2: I swear I was pronouncing it ah Dan, like the
- 13:27Speaker 2: crown Prince of h Dan. But because let's have a
- 13:31Speaker 2: quick look, surely the book your yours, if you yours,
- 13:33Speaker 2: looks closer. But that's what my brain was doing. No,
- 13:40Speaker 2: it's because she is called ada Land's assassin, king of
- 13:45Speaker 2: the crown Prince of ada Lan. I don't have to
- 13:49Speaker 2: pronounce it ad just say it's funny though, because after
- 13:54Speaker 2: reading Akata, I remember how much I was struggling at
- 13:56Speaker 2: the start of the first book, and then it just
- 13:57Speaker 2: becomes second nature. And then you also just accept that
- 14:00Speaker 2: like whatever the first time you say it is it
- 14:02Speaker 2: is just stuck.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Yeah, you're going to read it as that now, Well,
- 14:06Speaker 1: fare was freyer and that got changed.
- 14:09Speaker 2: That's to be fair. That's because everyone introsed you. If
- 14:12Speaker 2: you did that, that is what it is. That's about
- 14:15Speaker 2: chapter one though, Yeah, it's easy.
- 14:17Speaker 1: And then chapter two we go into a littlebout at
- 14:20Speaker 1: about her past in a sense of she was there
- 14:23Speaker 1: for a year and surprisingly she was in good health.
- 14:28Speaker 2: Well, yeah, she wasn't dead. Yeah, she wasn't dead.
- 14:31Speaker 1: But we find out, I don't know if this is
- 14:32Speaker 1: in chapter two, that like she was being treated a
- 14:35Speaker 1: lot more harsh than the other prisoners because she is
- 14:38Speaker 1: a notorious assassin being whipped extra. But the only reason
- 14:40Speaker 1: she was good is because certain other prisoners looked after her.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Yeah shit from way ellwere yeah, elwey and I reckon,
- 14:49Speaker 1: I'm with that that mentioned that say mentioned with I
- 14:54Speaker 1: think she'll go back and try to flee the people
- 14:56Speaker 1: who helped her. Hey, as soon as I saw that's
- 14:58Speaker 1: what I thought, I hope so. And then we also
- 15:00Speaker 1: find out that she was like three feet away from escaping.
- 15:03Speaker 1: She like got three hundred and sixty three feet. Yeah,
- 15:08Speaker 1: they sold mine.
- 15:09Speaker 2: So yeah, she gets led into the fucking crown prince
- 15:12Speaker 2: or whatever, and Dorian's like, she also likes to be like, wow,
- 15:15Speaker 2: he's handsome, Dorian's are fucking vowdie.
- 15:19Speaker 1: And she's she's a bit of a bad He also stays, yeah,
- 15:22Speaker 1: she's just.
- 15:23Speaker 2: A bit maldeprived, malnourished. Yeah. Basically he's like, you look
- 15:29Speaker 2: all right for a year in here, like yeah, and
- 15:33Speaker 2: then he's also kind of like, so, what's what's the
- 15:36Speaker 2: girl here? What's like, why are you so good? Or whatever?
- 15:39Speaker 2: And then someone goes, oh, like four months in she
- 15:42Speaker 2: tried to escape, and he's like cool, everyone tries to escape.
- 15:45Speaker 2: And then he goes to someone like what's the average
- 15:47Speaker 2: distance people get to like the wall? And then they
- 15:50Speaker 2: go Kale goes like, oh, I know, three feet before
- 15:53Speaker 2: they get killed. And then he's like, oh, how much
- 15:56Speaker 2: she make it? He goes like three hundred and ninety
- 15:58Speaker 2: eight feet or something like that.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Yeah, she killed like twenty guards or some shit, twenty
- 16:03Speaker 1: six guds and she was like three feet away from
- 16:05Speaker 1: actually escaping, and she don't know what happened. She got
- 16:07Speaker 1: like knocked out three feet away, which there might be
- 16:10Speaker 1: something techy in that, I think correct because she doesn't know.
- 16:13Speaker 2: She doesn't know why.
- 16:14Speaker 1: I think it's got something to do with Magico because
- 16:18Speaker 1: she was three feet away and then she got knocked
- 16:19Speaker 1: down and doesn't remember anything.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Ah dang. Also, she did it as a suicide thing.
- 16:23Speaker 2: She knew she wouldn't make it. She thought she'd die. Oh,
- 16:25Speaker 2: she wanted to kill herself. She wanted to kill herself.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, it comes out later too. Solanna's only eighteen
- 16:31Speaker 1: at this point. Yeah, she's fucking young, so she would
- 16:33Speaker 1: have been seventeen and the best assassin in the whole
- 16:35Speaker 1: fucking country.
- 16:37Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:38Speaker 1: That's about chapter two. Chapter three, we find out that
- 16:41Speaker 1: the king wants a champion and he's holding a competition.
- 16:46Speaker 1: What he wants an assassin for himself?
- 16:49Speaker 2: Is that what it is? She just wants someone to
- 16:51Speaker 2: do all his dirty work basically, So he's going to
- 16:54Speaker 2: hold a competition.
- 16:55Speaker 1: I was thinking, like olden day like jousting kind of times,
- 16:58Speaker 1: a competition all the difference.
- 16:59Speaker 2: Dudes, you fascinating. I'd like not to give anything away,
- 17:02Speaker 2: but like you, the competition is like important, but like
- 17:07Speaker 2: at the same time, like I'm really excited for it. Yeah,
- 17:10Speaker 2: but like one of the things is just like archery.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Oh you're kidding, you know what I mean?
- 17:15Speaker 1: I was thinking, like fucking like fool, what do they
- 17:18Speaker 1: gladiated type shit.
- 17:21Speaker 2: I won't give anything away, but I would say, like
- 17:23Speaker 2: the competition is slightly underwhelming. But you it's just a
- 17:28Speaker 2: lot of character stuff, like a lot of you just
- 17:30Speaker 2: learn a lot. Okay, okay, okay.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I do feel that this book it's giving that vibe
- 17:35Speaker 1: in a sense of like just scene setting.
- 17:36Speaker 2: Yea, yeah, and then that's about it. We're meeting, we're
- 17:40Speaker 2: learning a bit more about Dorian and Selena. Yeah, one
- 17:43Speaker 2: thing sotain. But at the end of chapter ten they
- 17:46Speaker 2: get to they're at the glass castle, right, the Glass Palace,
- 17:50Speaker 2: and like she explains it as just like ginormous, huge,
- 17:56Speaker 2: huge YouTube. And she also hates the fact that she
- 17:58Speaker 2: has to go to a glass castle. But before that,
- 18:01Speaker 2: they take like three weeks to go from the salt
- 18:04Speaker 2: mines and go through these forests and stuff. And she
- 18:08Speaker 2: makes mention that magic used to exist in these lands
- 18:12Speaker 2: and it used to be ruled by Fay. So the
- 18:15Speaker 2: Fay used to rule these lands and then the humans
- 18:19Speaker 2: somehow fucked the Faye up and just like the King
- 18:23Speaker 2: band magic, the King of Adalin or whatever band.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Which doesn't make any sense after reading Akata. Yeah, it
- 18:29Speaker 1: sounds like the Fay that ran these lands. Bro where
- 18:32Speaker 1: pussies compared to like fucking recent shit. Yeah, they think
- 18:35Speaker 1: about the Akatar Fay.
- 18:37Speaker 2: What the fuck is going on here? The humans are
- 18:39Speaker 2: nothing legitly, how do humans have a power? You pussies? AnyWho,
- 18:43Speaker 2: I shouldn't say pussies just like weaklings. But she talks
- 18:47Speaker 2: about being descendant from a magic bloodline. But and I'm
- 18:53Speaker 2: pretty sure as a child used a bit of magic,
- 18:57Speaker 2: like they have, they have a touch of it. She's
- 18:59Speaker 2: human but like has a touch of magic, but hasn't.
- 19:02Speaker 2: She's like convinced herself that that was just a fever dream. Ah.
- 19:06Speaker 2: And they're in the woods one night on their camping
- 19:09Speaker 2: trip back. There's like twelve guards or some shit, like
- 19:12Speaker 2: you know, Dorian's up the front with Oh, what's that
- 19:15Speaker 2: guy's name? He's a fuck with He's the one that
- 19:17Speaker 2: like shoves her face to the ground. And when she
- 19:19Speaker 2: initially meets Dorian, yeah, I don't know his name. Ah,
- 19:23Speaker 2: he ends up being he plays like a vital role
- 19:25Speaker 2: in this book in the end. What's his fucking name?
- 19:29Speaker 2: Who cares? Doesn't matter? Oh Duke Parrington. Duke Parrington. I
- 19:35Speaker 2: think it's only mentioned once. Yeah, Duke Harrington is the
- 19:37Speaker 2: guy that fucking shoved her face to the ground at
- 19:39Speaker 2: the beginning. So they're all there and then like Kale's
- 19:43Speaker 2: just got a chain to him the whole trip back.
- 19:46Speaker 2: But they're chilling one night around the fire and and
- 19:49Speaker 2: like everything randomly goes eerily quiet, and then Kale kind
- 19:54Speaker 2: of for some reason can tell that she's kind of
- 19:56Speaker 2: like knows something, so he talks to her about it,
- 19:58Speaker 2: and she goes, well, the woods that we're currently in
- 20:02Speaker 2: used to be ruled, like everything used to be ruled
- 20:04Speaker 2: by Fay and like the oak wood that we're in
- 20:06Speaker 2: or whatever, you know, it's pretty dense or some shit.
- 20:10Speaker 2: They could still be here, you know, and they're like, ah,
- 20:13Speaker 2: you know, no magic, no magic.
- 20:15Speaker 1: And there's gonna be like some cereals or something in there,
- 20:17Speaker 1: and then some what oh a cereal would be sick
- 20:21Speaker 1: and if they live forever, and shit don't they?
- 20:23Speaker 2: Yeah, and they know everything. Anyway that the next morning
- 20:28Speaker 2: she's woken up and there's like footprints and flowers leading
- 20:32Speaker 2: from like her pillow out, and she thinks it was gnomes.
- 20:36Speaker 2: She makes mention of gnomes. Remember they used to be
- 20:38Speaker 2: like gnomes and beasts and animals roaming like magical beasts
- 20:41Speaker 2: remedies forests, and they hurt her and they're they're they're
- 20:44Speaker 2: with her. So that was subtle foreshadowing. Yeah, that's the
- 20:48Speaker 2: technical term. What do we call it? Bread crumbing? Bread crumbing?
- 20:51Speaker 2: Bread crumbing and.
- 20:53Speaker 1: Basically too, like the last like they get to the
- 20:56Speaker 1: glass Castle.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Oh shit, a guys, done, lots.
- 21:03Speaker 1: Of feelings predictions to one of the fictional men that
- 21:07Speaker 1: we always do.
- 21:11Speaker 2: You're enough and streaming again. This is the Relatables book Club.
- 21:16Speaker 2: Let the throw and the Dogs begin, all right, thoughts
- 21:19Speaker 2: and feelings, Oddie current, I've got so many? Hey, really,
- 21:24Speaker 2: just because I don't know. I'm excited and I don't
- 21:25Speaker 2: know that I don't know too much. To be honest,
- 21:28Speaker 2: I remember when I was, when I was at this
- 21:30Speaker 2: point in time where you're at. I can remember my
- 21:33Speaker 2: thoughts and feelings being like it's like it's boring, sover
- 21:36Speaker 2: like cool.
- 21:37Speaker 1: But yeah, so Solana's obviously going to win the challenge
- 21:43Speaker 1: to become the King's assassin or whatever. Okay, I think
- 21:47Speaker 1: there's gonna be This is tough for you because I've
- 21:49Speaker 1: got I can read you really well, and you've got
- 21:51Speaker 1: to like pretend like if I if I hit the
- 21:53Speaker 1: nail on the head, you can't say anything, and if
- 21:54Speaker 1: I'm completely wrong, you also can't say it.
- 21:56Speaker 2: It'll be if you're completely wrong, it's going to be
- 21:58Speaker 2: easier to lead you astray.
- 22:01Speaker 1: I think okay, her, Solanda and Kale or Cal are
- 22:04Speaker 1: going to have sex at one point. No, you did
- 22:08Speaker 1: mention at dinner that there was no sex. They're going
- 22:10Speaker 1: to kiss at least.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Also, there's like a there's a spoiler that I wouldn't
- 22:14Speaker 2: say spoiler. I'm pretty sure in the whole series there's
- 22:16Speaker 2: like fuck all sex, Like it's not a spicy sey.
- 22:20Speaker 1: Well, this is Sarah, Sarah J. Mass wrote this. This
- 22:23Speaker 1: is where the baddies let us astray. Everyone told us
- 22:27Speaker 1: that she wrote it when she was seventeen, which is right,
- 22:30Speaker 1: but then she went back and rewrote it when she
- 22:32Speaker 1: was like twenty six.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Yeah, like she rewrote it when she was a better writer. Yeah.
- 22:36Speaker 1: And also I dare say a lot of the essences
- 22:38Speaker 1: when she was seventeen and not into.
- 22:40Speaker 2: Sex as much. I would assume that. Yeah, and then
- 22:43Speaker 2: a guitar came along and she was fucking she was like,
- 22:47Speaker 2: she goes, I'm fucking horny. Yeah.
- 22:50Speaker 1: So predictions, I think she'll win that, but there will
- 22:52Speaker 1: be a lot of like finding out about new characters
- 22:57Speaker 1: and they're going to try and like make sure she
- 23:00Speaker 1: doesn't win, and a bit of what's it called when
- 23:02Speaker 1: you play dirty?
- 23:04Speaker 2: I guess because she's the most talented.
- 23:06Speaker 1: But then also they have like better ties to the
- 23:08Speaker 1: king and are in better positions. One thing I didn't
- 23:11Speaker 1: understand is like, so she has to do it. We
- 23:13Speaker 1: didn't say she does five years of her time. They
- 23:15Speaker 1: bargained it down from six, didn't they. So if she
- 23:18Speaker 1: wins and then she's free. I think they got it
- 23:21Speaker 1: down to four. If she loses this challenge, she's dead.
- 23:24Speaker 2: Well she has to go back to Endovia.
- 23:26Speaker 1: Oh so they don't kill her giving her alive. Yeah,
- 23:29Speaker 1: so so she's just handy.
- 23:31Speaker 2: Yeah. So basically, if she wins, she's the King's champion,
- 23:34Speaker 2: signs a contract, she gets paid a lot of money,
- 23:38Speaker 2: and she's for four years. She has to do his
- 23:40Speaker 2: dirty work. And then she was also not allowed to
- 23:43Speaker 2: say a word about it, obviously, and then she gets
- 23:45Speaker 2: her freedom. She earns her freedom, and if she loses,
- 23:49Speaker 2: she goes back to Adovia, or if she dies, she
- 23:52Speaker 2: dies whatever. But also one more thing is that they
- 23:57Speaker 2: have to give her an alter egos. You're not allowed
- 24:00Speaker 2: to go by her na because her neighbor is so
- 24:03Speaker 2: famous that if all the other champions knew it, they'd
- 24:07Speaker 2: all just back out.
- 24:08Speaker 1: She must be like, which I'm really intrigued to see
- 24:11Speaker 1: her skill, like I'm keen for that. I reckon, here's
- 24:14Speaker 1: my throw in the dark. She is going to become
- 24:17Speaker 1: really close to Kale, and Kale doesn't actually like the
- 24:21Speaker 1: king because the king forced him into the Royal Guard
- 24:26Speaker 1: and did something to his family and that's why he
- 24:28Speaker 1: became the leader of the Royal Guard when it was because.
- 24:32Speaker 2: He's so young. He's only twenty uh huh.
- 24:35Speaker 1: And those two are going to try and come to
- 24:38Speaker 1: a plan to kill the king, but they can't, and
- 24:43Speaker 1: instead of doing that, they're gonna save some people from
- 24:45Speaker 1: the salt mites. Okay, okay, there's my throw on the
- 24:50Speaker 1: dark and the way the king is phrased initially, I
- 24:55Speaker 1: haven't read much about him, is I think that like
- 24:58Speaker 1: he's one of the characters where he's so important, but
- 25:01Speaker 1: you also don't know much about him. He's like on
- 25:03Speaker 1: a hierarchy up the top of the Pyramids game and
- 25:05Speaker 1: you don't really see him, but he is so powerful.
- 25:07Speaker 2: It's it's like it's kind of annoying how powerful he is,
- 25:10Speaker 2: but also it like makes sense.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I need to throw in the dark about Faye
- 25:15Speaker 1: though that this is because it's got to be throughout
- 25:17Speaker 1: the book because of that mention that foreshadowing, you'd think,
- 25:20Speaker 1: so yeah, yeah, okay, faye, what's going to happen? I
- 25:25Speaker 1: think that there's efens, there's essences of.
- 25:28Speaker 2: It like the gnomes. Ah, what is it? Or does
- 25:33Speaker 2: she win the challenge by using magic. I'm not going
- 25:37Speaker 2: to give anything away that could be.
- 25:39Speaker 1: That could be an a or the Her and Kale
- 25:42Speaker 1: bond over magical powers. I'm keen to see how it's Remember,
- 25:48Speaker 1: magic is illegal, like if you get caught, you're dead.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Interesting, So the people at Andovia are either people that
- 25:57Speaker 2: the King's armies have conquer and they're just taking them
- 26:01Speaker 2: as slaves, or people that have been caught trying to
- 26:04Speaker 2: use magic or like fevery or something like that. Okay, interesting, Ah,
- 26:09Speaker 2: I don't know. I don't know.
- 26:10Speaker 1: I don't have a throw on the dark from magic
- 26:12Speaker 1: yet I'm finding it interesting because everyone says you got
- 26:15Speaker 1: to readly throw in the glass before. So the new
- 26:17Speaker 1: Akatar has been announced and everyone told us we've got
- 26:20Speaker 1: to read this first, so it's got to be connected.
- 26:22Speaker 2: Well, everyone's saying it's connected, and also Crescent City we
- 26:24Speaker 2: need to read. I think I'm just I think I'm
- 26:27Speaker 2: just gonna read Crescent City without you, because apparently Crescent
- 26:32Speaker 2: City is like it's like all I've heard about Crescent
- 26:36Speaker 2: City is that the whole series of Crescent City is
- 26:39Speaker 2: like it's like the if you think of the Sarah J.
- 26:42Speaker 2: Mass like Universe of books, it's like the Iron Flame
- 26:48Speaker 2: of Fourth Wing, so like you know how, you know
- 26:50Speaker 2: how just iron flames like a grind. And then I
- 26:52Speaker 2: would say on ex Storm is actually quite good. Apparently
- 26:56Speaker 2: the whole I've seen Crescent City. Yeah, the whole series
- 26:59Speaker 2: of City apparently is like a grind. Yeah. Interesting.
- 27:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't mind too because like this is going
- 27:06Speaker 1: to take us a long time to get through. I
- 27:08Speaker 1: don't feel like I'll be into Crescent City and like
- 27:10Speaker 1: being transparent, I'm having fun and enjoying this. I think
- 27:13Speaker 1: I really like Sera jam Mass's a writer, but also
- 27:15Speaker 1: like I'm doing.
- 27:15Speaker 2: It for the pod. Also, I'm going to say one
- 27:18Speaker 2: thing we do need to We need to work out
- 27:21Speaker 2: a timeline because Akata six drops in like October, and
- 27:26Speaker 2: then Akata seven drops in like January or February one.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Planning to I'm hoping this will finish by the time
- 27:32Speaker 2: that comes out. These would be nice and I'll and
- 27:34Speaker 2: I'll read Crescent City and I'll let you know if
- 27:36Speaker 2: you need to read it.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Yeah, okay on that point too, I guess Throwing a
- 27:42Speaker 1: Glass will be six parts, it'll be ten chapters, and
- 27:45Speaker 1: the last one will be fifteen chapters.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Oh this guy, let's go, so stay tuned for that. Eh.
- 27:53Speaker 2: We love you baddies. Let us know if you like
- 27:54Speaker 2: the new structure too. Yeah. We want to keep it
- 27:56Speaker 2: nice and simple, short and sweet, and will tighten it
- 27:59Speaker 2: up a bit.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Yeah, just the first one. We're putting feelers out there.
- 28:02Speaker 1: Let us know what were pronounced wrong so far?
- 28:05Speaker 2: Though? Do you enjoy it? Do you enjoy it? Yeah?
- 28:08Speaker 1: I'm really enjoying it. Hey, I think something I don't know.
- 28:10Speaker 1: I might be because I'm such a nube. Something about
- 28:13Speaker 1: Sarah tay Mass.
- 28:14Speaker 2: I really like it's comfort. Yeah, it's comfortable.
- 28:18Speaker 1: I feel like she makes it easy for someone who
- 28:22Speaker 1: isn't the biggest reader. Yeah, I feel like Fourth Wing.
- 28:25Speaker 1: That's where it lost me. There was a lot, there
- 28:27Speaker 1: was too much going on where I was like, I
- 28:29Speaker 1: don't fucking want.
- 28:30Speaker 2: To read that. You could read Red Rising, Red Rising,
- 28:34Speaker 2: Oh you could not read it?
- 28:36Speaker 1: I go really good. I'm a bit of a cheater,
- 28:39Speaker 1: but I feel like it's relatable. I really like the
- 28:42Speaker 1: dramatized audio better. But also the audiobook in the background
- 28:45Speaker 1: when I'm reading.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Now, apparently that's not cheating. Luke Bateman reckons that he's
- 28:50Speaker 2: come out and said, like he made this video saying,
- 28:53Speaker 2: if anyone tells you that listening to the audiobook is
- 28:56Speaker 2: cheating and not reading, they are so wrong. He reckons
- 28:59Speaker 2: there's been stuff he's done that when you listen to
- 29:01Speaker 2: an audiobook that it's the same part of your brain
- 29:04Speaker 2: being stimulated as when you read. Interesting.
- 29:08Speaker 1: What I want to do too is just read two
- 29:10Speaker 1: chapters in the morning, two chapters before I go to bed.
- 29:11Speaker 1: Keep it nice and simple, easily simple, sweet before bed.
- 29:16Speaker 1: It's a good idea. Some of the chapters in this
- 29:17Speaker 1: are short. Yeah, that's it. Oh and Batties. We want
- 29:22Speaker 1: to say, if you're listening to this on Spotify, this
- 29:27Speaker 1: is the first one. We've done something cheeky this time,
- 29:30Speaker 1: haven't we Jake? Oh Yeah, yeah, look bit cheeky.
- 29:34Speaker 2: Um.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Every single part of Throwing a Glass is now available
- 29:40Speaker 1: on Patreon.
- 29:41Speaker 2: Yeah, so if you want to see us tighten up
- 29:43Speaker 2: in real time, you can go bingamore right now on Patreon.
- 29:46Speaker 1: If you thought how if you thought half an hour
- 29:48Speaker 1: wasn't enough, there's what's quick maths Jake. That's six parts
- 29:51Speaker 1: times thirty minutes. How many hours is that?
- 29:54Speaker 2: Three?
- 29:55Speaker 1: There you go, Yeah, there's three hours of content over there.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Two Binge All thrown a glass us is out there now,
