- 0:00Speaker 1: Time out for back to the basics and health care
- 0:02Speaker 1: with Balanced Life Chiropractic, and we have doctor Harley joining us.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Hey doing doctor Harley, Hey.
- 0:06Speaker 3: John, I'm doing fantastic. I can't believe how fast summer
- 0:09Speaker 3: is a flying by.
- 0:10Speaker 2: It's cruising.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I heard somebody talking about the number of days til
- 0:14Speaker 1: back to school and I was like, wait a minute,
- 0:16Speaker 1: what that's That's not many?
- 0:18Speaker 3: I mean all the stores, have you believe it's next week? Yeah,
- 0:21Speaker 3: all that back to school sales and everything.
- 0:23Speaker 2: Well, it's going to be here before we know it.
- 0:24Speaker 1: But we're going to talk today about wellness because wellness
- 0:27Speaker 1: is a thing that it's kind of hard to pin
- 0:29Speaker 1: an exact definition of that because it's different for different people,
- 0:32Speaker 1: isn't it right?
- 0:33Speaker 3: And I mean I asked that question a lot. If
- 0:35Speaker 3: we're out doing like marketing events, screening fair stuff like that,
- 0:39Speaker 3: be like, oh, I'm good, I don't need a chiropractor,
- 0:41Speaker 3: or like, well, when should I see a chiropractor? If
- 0:43Speaker 3: I feel good?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Do I really need a chiropractor?
- 0:45Speaker 3: And I said, yeah, it's chiropractics not just for aches,
- 0:49Speaker 3: pains and issues, but also keeping you on your feet,
- 0:52Speaker 3: keeping you healthy. And that's what we talk about wellness
- 0:54Speaker 3: or maintenance maintaining your health. It's so much easier to
- 0:58Speaker 3: take care of yourself when you're feeling good, yeah, and
- 1:01Speaker 3: keep it feeling good versus waiting till things start popping
- 1:04Speaker 3: up and showing up. You know, myself, as a chiropractor,
- 1:07Speaker 3: I get adjusted once a week. Not that I have
- 1:09Speaker 3: a lot of health problems. It's just I want to
- 1:11Speaker 3: keep myself in tiptop shape so that I can take
- 1:14Speaker 3: care of my patients. You know, we've been pretty stressful life.
- 1:18Speaker 3: You know, jobs are stressful, and raising kids, economy, all
- 1:22Speaker 3: these different things. So that's a lot of everyday stressors
- 1:25Speaker 3: that we don't really think about. And that is more
- 1:28Speaker 3: where wellness helps to combat some of that Versus when
- 1:31Speaker 3: we don't take care of our stress and our health,
- 1:33Speaker 3: that's when we start getting more the physical problem start
- 1:35Speaker 3: showing up.
- 1:36Speaker 1: And wellness and health are different because I hear all
- 1:38Speaker 1: the time health and wellness, so they're different things, but
- 1:40Speaker 1: they're similar, right right.
- 1:42Speaker 3: You know, our health is our greatest asset and we
- 1:44Speaker 3: don't really realize it until all of a sudden it's gone.
- 1:47Speaker 3: And I looked at the definition for what health is
- 1:50Speaker 3: from like the Webster Dictionary, and it was a state
- 1:52Speaker 3: of being without disease or injuries, so like kind of
- 1:55Speaker 3: a really simple simple description. Most of the time we
- 1:58Speaker 3: know and we don't have injuries, right, you know, slip's falls,
- 2:01Speaker 3: car accidents, you name it, sporting injuries. We know when
- 2:03Speaker 3: that happens. It's the state of disease part that is
- 2:07Speaker 3: not always. Oh yeah, of course I know that because
- 2:10Speaker 3: a lot of diseases don't have any symptoms in the
- 2:12Speaker 3: early stages of them, and then when we finally get
- 2:16Speaker 3: diagnosed or start showing symptoms, it's well advanced, and then
- 2:19Speaker 3: it's like, well, there's only palliative care at that point
- 2:21Speaker 3: to really maintain it. We can't get rid of it
- 2:24Speaker 3: at that point. So the goal with like chiropractic and
- 2:27Speaker 3: thinking like that kind of term of health is, let's
- 2:29Speaker 3: try to prevent this stuff or take care of disease
- 2:32Speaker 3: before it even starts manifesting.
- 2:34Speaker 1: And nip it in the bud when it's a tiny
- 2:36Speaker 1: little thing, rather than waiting it's a big problem, right,
- 2:38Speaker 1: because you could wait until you are so sore you
- 2:40Speaker 1: can barely move.
- 2:41Speaker 2: You could do that. You certainly could do that.
- 2:43Speaker 1: And I'm sure there's a lot of chiropractors that'll be like, hey,
- 2:45Speaker 1: come and see me, we'd love to see it. Or
- 2:47Speaker 1: you could say, hey, I don't want to get to
- 2:48Speaker 1: that point. I want to have a nice wellness plan
- 2:52Speaker 1: where I feel good all the time instead of waiting
- 2:54Speaker 1: until I am in a really bad spot.
- 2:57Speaker 3: And I've had patients that they started without really any
- 3:00Speaker 3: major complaints and after a few weeks, like I didn't
- 3:03Speaker 3: realize how good I could feel. You know, everyone's always
- 3:06Speaker 3: told me like, oh, just being old as part of it,
- 3:07Speaker 3: and you're gonna have aches and pains being older.
- 3:10Speaker 1: But I follow in that category quite honestly, because when
- 3:12Speaker 1: we started working with you, and we've how long I
- 3:14Speaker 1: have been working to go three years?
- 3:16Speaker 3: Three years?
- 3:17Speaker 2: Yeah, so and you know, I'm in my upper forties.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I don't know exactly know for sure old, I don't
- 3:22Speaker 1: know for sure, but I'm a man of a certain age,
- 3:25Speaker 1: and at a certain age, you know, you just wake
- 3:27Speaker 1: up and you're like, oh, this is just what I
- 3:28Speaker 1: feel like. And I remember we started coming to balance
- 3:31Speaker 1: life chiropractic on a regular consistent basis, and I remember
- 3:35Speaker 1: thinking I feel better, which is kind of crazy, because
- 3:38Speaker 1: like I didn't I didn't even I wasn't.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Expecting I did to have the aches and pains, you know,
- 3:42Speaker 3: part of being older.
- 3:43Speaker 1: And now the nice thing is we've been doing this
- 3:45Speaker 1: on a consistent basis and I feel good most of
- 3:47Speaker 1: the time, other than when I do dumb stuff like
- 3:49Speaker 1: I did recently.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I was helping doing a.
- 3:51Speaker 1: Bunch of yard work and I moved like a couple
- 3:53Speaker 1: tons of rock, so I kind of hobbled in on Monday.
- 3:56Speaker 2: I'm like, uh, can you fix me?
- 3:58Speaker 3: You came and got adjusted. Yeah, and they, you know,
- 4:00Speaker 3: got over the aches and pains a little absolutely.
- 4:02Speaker 2: And that's the thing.
- 4:03Speaker 1: Recovery time goes a lot quicker when you do have
- 4:06Speaker 1: a wellness plan. So if somebody listening is going, I
- 4:08Speaker 1: don't have any kind of plan. I don't have any
- 4:10Speaker 1: of this stuff figured out. I don't know what I'm doing.
- 4:11Speaker 1: If they would like to get started with you, what
- 4:13Speaker 1: does the first step and what does the process look like?
- 4:15Speaker 3: Yeah, it starts with getting a new patient appointment set.
- 4:17Speaker 3: That way, we can make sure that we're taking the
- 4:19Speaker 3: time to sit down with you and talk to you
- 4:22Speaker 3: about what your health goals are, where you're at on
- 4:25Speaker 3: your health journey. If you're just getting started, or if
- 4:28Speaker 3: we're going to be you know, assisting with other things
- 4:30Speaker 3: that you're doing. But yeah, it really just starts with
- 4:32Speaker 3: having a conversation and figuring, Okay, what is your goal?
