- 0:04Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:07Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex bar Blazar Lazar, everybody nailed it.
- 0:12Speaker 2: He joined as always by our Bara.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Here is Evan Lazar and Alex Bars.
- 0:21Speaker 2: Because I can't quit.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Yeah, my Tes Johnson love.
- 0:24Speaker 2: He tested exactly the same as Tantut.
- 0:27Speaker 1: But he didn't he did. He didn't. He did he
- 0:30Speaker 1: did not because he didn't he did.
- 0:34Speaker 2: He ran a four or five one. Tant Del ran
- 0:35Speaker 2: a four four nine.
- 0:36Speaker 1: That's different. Take out tank dell to hundredths of the
- 0:41Speaker 1: that's what the combine is. That's absolutely tank tank tank.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Deel's also are twelve pounds heavier. Tes Johnson, they showed
- 0:50Speaker 1: it was.
- 0:51Speaker 2: He was on my downs list. You don't have to
- 0:52Speaker 2: ran this on my.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Don list player in the history of the combine.
- 0:57Speaker 2: It was not good. Oh it was not good, but
- 1:02Speaker 2: you know it was good. It was a good couple
- 1:04Speaker 2: days for the Patriots. It was a I have a
- 1:06Speaker 2: little pep in my step today and I thought it
- 1:09Speaker 2: was a really solid start. I'm not going to come
- 1:11Speaker 2: in here and blow too much smoke and say that
- 1:14Speaker 2: it was like this unbelievable A plus first day of
- 1:18Speaker 2: free agency, but I would call it a really solid start.
- 1:22Speaker 2: I'm pleased with what the Patriots have done so far
- 1:26Speaker 2: and I'm excited about it. So we're gonna talk about
- 1:28Speaker 2: it here today, Alex barth Evan Lazar Patriots Catch twenty
- 1:32Speaker 2: two for the next couple of hours, and I want
- 1:34Speaker 2: to go player by player and give our takes on
- 1:37Speaker 2: each individual player. But I obviously want to start big
- 1:40Speaker 2: picture first and talk about our overall thoughts of really
- 1:43Speaker 2: what's been one day, because they haven't really done much.
- 1:46Speaker 2: I think there's some things that are balls up in
- 1:49Speaker 2: the air that maybe they're waiting to see where they
- 1:51Speaker 2: fall to start a second wave here, Cooper Cup, we'll
- 1:56Speaker 2: get to that and we'll camp. Yeah, we'll get to
- 1:58Speaker 2: that in a little bit.
- 2:00Speaker 1: The show would be great. If they're listening up stairs,
- 2:02Speaker 1: you want to give us some reacting during the show,
- 2:04Speaker 1: appreciate that.
- 2:05Speaker 2: The next two hours. We'll yeah, sooner the better, and
- 2:08Speaker 2: we'll keep morel here a little bit longer if it
- 2:10Speaker 2: happens in LA or we'll keep it going anyways. I
- 2:14Speaker 2: think my big picture thought on the free agency so far,
- 2:18Speaker 2: and I feel like everybody that's commenting on this so
- 2:22Speaker 2: far is putting in the caveat of they still need
- 2:26Speaker 2: the wide receiver, and they still need the left tackle,
- 2:28Speaker 2: and I think we're all aware of that. But I
- 2:31Speaker 2: look at what they've done on defense and think two things. One,
- 2:36Speaker 2: I'm really glad that they didn't ignore how just bad
- 2:43Speaker 2: I'm just trying to find the right word, wasn't good
- 2:45Speaker 2: on defense last year. And anybody that thought it was
- 2:50Speaker 2: just an offensive minded free agency or off season that
- 2:53Speaker 2: all they needed to do was out on offense, I
- 2:55Speaker 2: don't think that that was really looking at it objectively
- 2:58Speaker 2: of just how that defense fell apart, especially upfront and
- 3:03Speaker 2: in the middle, right just right down the spine of
- 3:05Speaker 2: the defense. When you talk about into your defensive line play,
- 3:09Speaker 2: linebacker play, safety play, it just wasn't good enough on
- 3:14Speaker 2: any level last year. At times we came in here
- 3:17Speaker 2: every single week and did three up, three down. And
- 3:19Speaker 2: how many times did I just lament about the linebacker
- 3:24Speaker 2: play last year, And just how those linebackers once Bentley
- 3:27Speaker 2: went out, just didn't make any plays at the second
- 3:30Speaker 2: level of the defense, didn't get golf blocks, didn't make tackles,
- 3:34Speaker 2: just didn't make any plays. So you add a game
- 3:38Speaker 2: wrecking three technique with Milton Williams. You had an edge
- 3:41Speaker 2: defender that's stout and plays their style football, can get
- 3:44Speaker 2: up the field a little bit. And Harold Landry and
- 3:47Speaker 2: my guy Robert Splaine is one of my favorite signings
- 3:49Speaker 2: of this whole class because that is a tackling machine.
- 3:53Speaker 2: Like this guy is always around the ball, He's always
- 3:56Speaker 2: going to make tackles. He's always going to do that.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Carlton Davis out on the perimeter kind of shores up
- 4:03Speaker 2: that cornerback room, you know, puts everybody where they're supposed
- 4:06Speaker 2: to be at the cornerback spot. So my big picture
- 4:09Speaker 2: takeaway is that I'm someone and I'm going to give
- 4:13Speaker 2: credit to all three. The Big three is what I
- 4:15Speaker 2: like to call them. Vrabel, Cowed, and Wolf looked at
- 4:19Speaker 2: that defensive side of the ball and in my mind,
- 4:22Speaker 2: understood the flaws and understood where they needed to address
- 4:26Speaker 2: the roster on that side of the football. So they
- 4:29Speaker 2: made calculated moves. They made moves for guys that fit.
- 4:32Speaker 2: They make moves for guys that play a certain way.
- 4:36Speaker 2: And that is encouraging because I feel like someone is
- 4:41Speaker 2: looking at this like a like a football guy and
- 4:44Speaker 2: recognizing that these are these were our holes on defense.
- 4:47Speaker 2: This is how we fix it. Let's go out and
- 4:49Speaker 2: execute a plan to do so on the first day
- 4:52Speaker 2: of free agency. So long way to go on the
- 4:55Speaker 2: offensive side of the ball. But that's encouraging that we
- 4:59Speaker 2: are not to throwing money at big names or you know,
- 5:02Speaker 2: we're gonna sign the top three defense of free agents
- 5:04Speaker 2: because that's what we need. No, they they made some
- 5:07Speaker 2: really nice, calculated moves to upgrade this defense.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Yeah, I'd agree with that. I they didn't address the
- 5:13Speaker 1: big the two biggest needs, but I think they've done
- 5:15Speaker 1: a good job of checking off so far. The majority
- 5:18Speaker 1: of the other boxes they you know, left tackling wide
- 5:20Speaker 1: receivers still the big ones. The other one i'd put
- 5:22Speaker 1: out there is guard and then safety. But you know,
- 5:25Speaker 1: people are gonna compare it to twenty twenty one. Twenty
- 5:28Speaker 1: twenty one. Maybe there was more overall talent, but that
- 5:32Speaker 1: was more of just a blunt approach. If we're just
- 5:33Speaker 1: gonna go out and sign player after player after player,
- 5:36Speaker 1: and you know how much consideration was there A fit
- 5:38Speaker 1: Some guys worked, some guys didn't. To your point, I
- 5:40Speaker 1: think every guy they signed, it's it's a very targeted
- 5:43Speaker 1: like you can project the role instantly for every single
- 5:46Speaker 1: one of these guys. We kind of wondered, you know,
- 5:48Speaker 1: where's John new Smith gonna fit. How's he gonna play.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Jalen Mills, you're gonna play corners, You're gonna play safety.
- 5:53Speaker 1: And you know you can have a couple of guys
- 5:55Speaker 1: that you maybe want experiment with. That's fine, But early
- 5:57Speaker 1: on they needed a guy. You know, best case scenario,
- 6:03Speaker 1: wrecking tandem in the middle, worst case scenario, if they
- 6:05Speaker 1: don't have bar More, they have that guy who can
- 6:08Speaker 1: penetrate from the inside, which they need to play the
- 6:09Speaker 1: style of defense. They got a guy who plays their
- 6:12Speaker 1: style on the edge. They got a bigger, physical man
- 6:14Speaker 1: corner on the outside. I know we talked about zone
- 6:16Speaker 1: last week. I think we maybe need to rehab that
- 6:19Speaker 1: rehab that conversation. They needed a guy who plays sideline
- 6:23Speaker 1: aside on the linebacker position. Got that, got one of
- 6:25Speaker 1: the tackles they needed, like it all just all five
- 6:28Speaker 1: or six, just instant boom, spot them starters, even kiris Tanga,
- 6:33Speaker 1: who's not the biggest name and who knows how much
- 6:35Speaker 1: he'll play. But after trading Davon Gotschad, they needed a
- 6:38Speaker 1: guy who's just gonna sit and you can put on
- 6:39Speaker 1: the field on second and one or third and one
- 6:41Speaker 1: sitting down in the middle and have them stop the
- 6:43Speaker 1: run and boom, he plugs right into that role. So
- 6:46Speaker 1: I think it was a very disciplined approach. Mike rabel
- 6:50Speaker 1: I think it was Rabeler Wolf one of them said
- 6:51Speaker 1: at the combine, We're not going to sign players just
- 6:54Speaker 1: to sign players, right. They talked about getting aggressive but
- 6:56Speaker 1: not being reckless. I thought they walked that line perfectly.
- 7:01Speaker 1: And when they were maybe gonna lose out on Milton
- 7:03Speaker 1: Williams just based on how the reporting went, they kind
- 7:06Speaker 1: of went back in and you saw that aggressiveness turn up,
- 7:09Speaker 1: but they didn't go all out on players that they
- 7:12Speaker 1: didn't need to go all out on.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Yeah, I agreed. And you mentioned Carlton Davis and maybe
- 7:16Speaker 2: talking a little bit more about them still playing a
- 7:19Speaker 2: lot of man'sonman coverage, which I agree with, But I
- 7:21Speaker 2: also just look at Carlton Davis and how long have
- 7:24Speaker 2: we been saying, you know, Jonathan Jones, Marcus Jones, Miles
- 7:28Speaker 2: Bryant when he was here, good players, but just not
- 7:31Speaker 2: outside corners, right like they need to be playing the slot.
- 7:34Speaker 2: They don't have the size, they don't have that ability
- 7:37Speaker 2: to go up against you know, those outside guys. They
- 7:40Speaker 2: get a guy like Carlton Davis in here, and again
- 7:43Speaker 2: it's not just the player, it's also the skill set
- 7:46Speaker 2: of the player. You know he has he's six foot one,
- 7:49Speaker 2: he's two hundred pounds, he has an incredible length in wingspan.
- 7:53Speaker 2: I think he's ninety fifth percentile in the wingspan when
- 7:56Speaker 2: he came out of the draft. So you have a
- 7:59Speaker 2: body type now that projects to fit well on the outside,
- 8:03Speaker 2: opposite of Christian Gonzales. So again, you know, they recognized
- 8:07Speaker 2: we have slot corners playing outside, and those guys are competitive,
- 8:12Speaker 2: and those guys are feisty cover corners. So they've held
- 8:15Speaker 2: their own to their credit. But this obviously isn't how
- 8:19Speaker 2: it should be. Like we're playing these guys out of position.
- 8:22Speaker 2: And so you go out there and you sign Carlton Davis,
- 8:24Speaker 2: and now Marcus Jones projects as a slot. Maybe you
- 8:28Speaker 2: do bring Jonathan Jones back here still on a reasonable
- 8:31Speaker 2: contract and play him at nickel or safety or something
- 8:34Speaker 2: like that in the middle of the field, and everybody
- 8:36Speaker 2: just back there kind of starts to fit where they're
- 8:38Speaker 2: supposed to be, so that was it was encouraging that
- 8:42Speaker 2: they were able to identify their holes on defense and
- 8:45Speaker 2: go out and sign guys that fill those holes. You know,
- 8:47Speaker 2: Harold Landry left defensive end, Milton Williams three technique, Carlon
- 8:51Speaker 2: Davis number two corner, Splaine. I think they're going to
- 8:55Speaker 2: try to play Splain and Bentley next to each other
- 8:58Speaker 2: on early downs. I don't know for a fact if
- 9:01Speaker 2: that's going to be the case, but if I had
- 9:03Speaker 2: to guess, I would say that the plan would be
- 9:06Speaker 2: to play both those guys on the field together. Not
- 9:09Speaker 2: Splain replacing Bentley, but Bentley and Splain as a duo.
- 9:13Speaker 2: So we'll see how that all works out. You mentioned
- 9:17Speaker 2: you know Morgan Moses, and I think it's similar. Morgan
- 9:21Speaker 2: Moses is going to be your right tackle next year.
- 9:23Speaker 2: You have that spot filled at least for the twenty
- 9:25Speaker 2: twenty five season, and you know, there's a long way
- 9:28Speaker 2: to go on that offensive line. It's probably the biggest
- 9:31Speaker 2: concern I have right now. Still. I think they're down
- 9:35Speaker 2: let's call it, two starters at least, and then there's
- 9:38Speaker 2: obviously a decent amount of you know, stuff out there
- 9:42Speaker 2: about what's going to happen at center and what's not
- 9:45Speaker 2: going to happen at center, So we'll see what transpires there.
- 9:49Speaker 2: But your at least two thoughts still to fill at
- 9:52Speaker 2: left guard and left tackle, so we can get to
- 9:55Speaker 2: that here in a minute as well. And we'll take
- 9:58Speaker 2: your phone calls eight five to five p that's five hundred,
- 10:01Speaker 2: and you can reach out on email too at podcasts
- 10:03Speaker 2: at Patriots dot com if you'd like to do that
- 10:06Speaker 2: as well. But I want to go through all these
- 10:08Speaker 2: free agents that they the additions by just go one
- 10:13Speaker 2: by one as we tend to do on this show
- 10:15Speaker 2: and get really into it. So let's go in order
- 10:18Speaker 2: of just sort of you know when they were signed
- 10:20Speaker 2: if you will a little bit here. So obviously the
- 10:23Speaker 2: first one is is Harold Landry on Sunday night, as
- 10:27Speaker 2: we're all on our couches probably not thinking that anything
- 10:31Speaker 2: is going to happen until the morning, they sign Harold
- 10:34Speaker 2: Landry to a three year deal. And you know, this
- 10:37Speaker 2: one's obvious. Big connections with Rabel goes back away as
- 10:41Speaker 2: a draft. Rabel draft pick is very first draft in Tennessee,
- 10:46Speaker 2: second round, second round pick for the Titans.
- 10:49Speaker 1: After Shan Evans was their first round pick.
- 10:50Speaker 2: That ye right, it sounds right. He doesn't Harold landers
- 10:55Speaker 2: you know, his his pass rush win rate. I know
- 10:57Speaker 2: that's a number that's going around a lot from PFS.
- 11:00Speaker 2: PFF is pretty harsh on it. Sounds like ESPN's is
- 11:03Speaker 2: a little bit nicer. But neither one of them are
- 11:06Speaker 2: glowing about his season last year in terms of pass
- 11:09Speaker 2: rush productivity. You hope that maybe that was scheme related.
- 11:14Speaker 2: You know, he was in a different scheme for the
- 11:15Speaker 2: first time in his career. Now that he goes back
- 11:18Speaker 2: to playing with Rabel and Terrell Williams, maybe he goes
- 11:21Speaker 2: back to being a productive player in the pass rush.
- 11:24Speaker 2: But I think the number one thing that stands out
- 11:26Speaker 2: to me with Harold Landry is the run defense is
- 11:28Speaker 2: really solid, A really good run defender, but a different style,
- 11:32Speaker 2: not an Anthony Jennings style. I wouldn't say he's a
- 11:35Speaker 2: guy that can get up the field, that can you know,
- 11:38Speaker 2: shoot gaps and really set the edge by getting a
- 11:41Speaker 2: downhill at the line of scrimmage and use that burst
- 11:44Speaker 2: in that bend that he has to make plays in
- 11:47Speaker 2: the backfield. And I would also say in the pass rush,
- 11:50Speaker 2: if you're counting on the fact that you're gonna get
- 11:53Speaker 2: a lot of interior pressure up the middle. Then he's
- 11:56Speaker 2: someone that I do think can kind of clean up.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Like I don't know if he's necessarily at this stage
- 12:00Speaker 2: of his career going to be a one on one
- 12:02Speaker 2: winner that's going to get sacks all on his own,
- 12:04Speaker 2: But if Milton Williams is pushing the quarterback towards Harold
- 12:08Speaker 2: Andry's side of the line of scrimmage, I think that
- 12:11Speaker 2: he can be the guy that gets the quarterback actually
- 12:13Speaker 2: on the ground.
- 12:14Speaker 1: Yeah. Good complimentary rusher, good secondary rusher, and they needed that.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Now you may say, well, okay, who's the primary That's
- 12:20Speaker 1: what we still need to wait and see, and maybe
- 12:22Speaker 1: that guy comes in the draft, Maybe that guy comes
- 12:24Speaker 1: next year. We all knew they weren't getting get everything
- 12:26Speaker 1: in year one, but a good solid piece in the defense.
- 12:29Speaker 1: I meant to say this in the opening take, like this,
- 12:32Speaker 1: we talked a lot about the Commanders model. That's what
- 12:34Speaker 1: this is. A guy that's not a superstar, but he's
- 12:37Speaker 1: going to give you kind of a floor and he
- 12:39Speaker 1: will help just kind of shore up that defensive front
- 12:42Speaker 1: and just raise the level by being steady and consistent.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a great point, and I wanted to pull
- 12:48Speaker 2: up and we can do it in a second. The
- 12:50Speaker 2: Commander's free agency last season. Now, the Commanders didn't go
- 12:54Speaker 2: out and make a Milton Williams signing at the top
- 12:57Speaker 2: top of the market, but a lot of these guys,
- 13:00Speaker 2: the Landryes, the Davis's, you know, these mid level to
- 13:04Speaker 2: to you know, let's call it mid level to maybe
- 13:08Speaker 2: you know, three quarters level if you want free agents
- 13:12Speaker 2: where a lot of what the Commanders did, you know,
- 13:14Speaker 2: they signed a lot of those types of guys.
- 13:17Speaker 1: Uh.
- 13:18Speaker 2: I think that does it.
- 13:19Speaker 1: With Landry.
- 13:20Speaker 2: I think we you know, kind of got that covered.
- 13:22Speaker 2: Milton Williams is obviously the big piece, you know, just
- 13:25Speaker 2: get right to him. I think that with this defense
- 13:30Speaker 2: and with this scheme and what they're gonna try to
- 13:31Speaker 2: do with Rabel and be more aggressive. You know, he's
- 13:34Speaker 2: to use that word multiple times to describe how they
- 13:36Speaker 2: want to play defense, especially on the defensive line. Aggressive play.
- 13:40Speaker 2: On the other side of the line of scrimmage, the
- 13:43Speaker 2: three technique or the player that lines up over the
- 13:46Speaker 2: outside shade of the guard right is Jeffrey Simmons in Tennessee.
- 13:51Speaker 2: It's a massive, massive role to fit this whole puzzle together.
- 13:56Speaker 2: A game wrecker that can defeat blocks in the run
- 13:59Speaker 2: game and make splash plays in the run game and
- 14:02Speaker 2: get after the passer. If you're going to run this
- 14:05Speaker 2: kind of system, you need the interior penetration. You need
- 14:08Speaker 2: those guys that can do that. So I can totally
- 14:11Speaker 2: understand and I express some of my doubts or you know,
- 14:15Speaker 2: just concerns about Milton Williams before free agency, because you know,
- 14:19Speaker 2: when you play on that defensive line in Philadelphia next
- 14:22Speaker 2: to Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Josh Sweed, Jordan Davis, you
- 14:26Speaker 2: do worry about if it's going to continue when those
- 14:29Speaker 2: guys aren't around you, right, and you don't have Jalen Carter,
- 14:33Speaker 2: especially on the interior and he only played fifty percent
- 14:35Speaker 2: of the snaps last year in Philly. When you pay
- 14:38Speaker 2: a guy this kind of money, he's going to play
- 14:39Speaker 2: a lot more here than that. But with that being said,
- 14:43Speaker 2: the role in the defense that he's going to play
- 14:45Speaker 2: is extremely important in this system, and he can play it.
- 14:48Speaker 2: He definitely has a tape that he can play it
- 14:51Speaker 2: at a high level. And they clearly made this a
- 14:55Speaker 2: non negotiable, like we have to walk out of free
- 14:57Speaker 2: agency with Milton Williams. And I think a lot of
- 15:00Speaker 2: that goes back to the type of defense they want
- 15:01Speaker 2: to play.
- 15:02Speaker 1: Well, and I think ideally you have two of those guys,
- 15:04Speaker 1: yeah right, in him and Christian Barmore, and that's going
- 15:06Speaker 1: to be among the best defensive tackle duos in the
- 15:10Speaker 1: National Football League. Yeah, we'll see where they're at with Barmore.
- 15:13Speaker 1: It kind of sounds like nothing definitive has been made
- 15:16Speaker 1: of that yet and doesn't need They don't need to
- 15:19Speaker 1: make a definitive decision right now, right, So it's not surprising.
- 15:22Speaker 1: But if you get those two guys going in the
- 15:25Speaker 1: middle and with Landry coming off the edge, and you know,
- 15:28Speaker 1: you maybe throw a Day two draft pick in there,
- 15:31Speaker 1: completely reworked front, night and day from where they were
- 15:35Speaker 1: at last year.
- 15:35Speaker 2: It's extremely athletic too. Just I know some of those
- 15:38Speaker 2: guys are a little bit older, like Landry, so maybe
- 15:41Speaker 2: this doesn't quite apply. But if you go back to
- 15:43Speaker 2: look at all these guys in the combine, they're all
- 15:46Speaker 2: elite athletic testers. Out of the combine, Landry, Milton Williams,
- 15:52Speaker 2: we should mention Keon White you know, another guy, high
- 15:56Speaker 2: end athlete, bar More, high end athlete. So all this
- 15:59Speaker 2: sud in a front that was typically space eating, you know,
- 16:04Speaker 2: run stuffers like Devon Godshaw's of the world. Now all
- 16:08Speaker 2: of a sudden, he's got a bunch of athletes that
- 16:10Speaker 2: get up the field. So you can see the vision
- 16:11Speaker 2: of what they're trying to build in that respect as well.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Look at Milton Williams. I see a lot of the
- 16:18Speaker 2: same style of pass rush moves when we talked so
- 16:22Speaker 2: much about Mason Graham and the draft. Very violent with
- 16:24Speaker 2: his hands, likes to use his swipe, likes to use
- 16:27Speaker 2: an arm over. To compliment that he can bull rush.
- 16:30Speaker 2: I don't think it's his number one go to, but
- 16:33Speaker 2: he can do it if you want him to try
- 16:35Speaker 2: to push the pocket up the middle. And then at
- 16:38Speaker 2: two ninety is his quickness in the run game is
- 16:41Speaker 2: really stands out. You know, he's got that ability to
- 16:43Speaker 2: just cross over and you know, get on the edges
- 16:46Speaker 2: quickly and get into gaps quickly, and guys on the
- 16:49Speaker 2: offensive line just don't get over there quick enough to
- 16:52Speaker 2: like overtake those blocks. So that's all over his tape.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Fantastic playoff run for Philadelphia yea last year as well.
- 17:00Speaker 2: So this is a guy that performed well in the
- 17:02Speaker 2: biggest moments for the Eagles last year. So a lot
- 17:05Speaker 2: of pros about the player. I just you know, I'll
- 17:08Speaker 2: keep on saying it. I just I hope that it's
- 17:11Speaker 2: not a product the Jalen Carter.
- 17:13Speaker 1: We'll see it's a lot. That's that's gonna be the
- 17:15Speaker 1: big question. You know, he's gonna he only played what
- 17:18Speaker 1: about fifty percent of snaps in Philly, right, so he's
- 17:20Speaker 1: gonna be playing a bigger role here. How does he
- 17:21Speaker 1: adjust to that? And that's why. Look, Christian Barmore is
- 17:24Speaker 1: not Jalen Carter, but again, you get the two of
- 17:26Speaker 1: them together, and that's going to be something I think
- 17:29Speaker 1: that could be really special.
- 17:30Speaker 2: Yeah, And I do wonder too if if Kean White
- 17:33Speaker 2: is in more of a rotational role and he's kind
- 17:35Speaker 2: of like a third down interior pass rusher type of guy,
- 17:40Speaker 2: and maybe he even goes into in terms of snap
- 17:44Speaker 2: count and stuff like that, and even where he's rushing,
- 17:46Speaker 2: like into what Millan Williams was last year for Philadelphia, right, Like,
- 17:50Speaker 2: you know, someone that is only playing fifty to fifty
- 17:52Speaker 2: five percent of the snaps, but is really effective rushing
- 17:55Speaker 2: the passers. So if it's not bar More, that's get
- 17:58Speaker 2: that's eating, you know, when Milon Williams gets double teamed,
- 18:02Speaker 2: or Williams eating when Barmore gets double team Like, maybe
- 18:04Speaker 2: that's key on White next year. Is the guy that's
- 18:08Speaker 2: getting all the one on ones with Milton Williams in
- 18:11Speaker 2: the middle. Carlon Davis, I know this is your favorite signing. Yeah, bunch,
- 18:14Speaker 2: You've been a big Carlon Davis.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I've been telling you that he made sense. You know,
- 18:18Speaker 1: they needed size on the boundary, they needed physicality on
- 18:21Speaker 1: the boundary. And I'm not gonna lie when you said
- 18:23Speaker 1: and I don't think you're necessarily wrong in the point
- 18:25Speaker 1: you were making, But when you said that, it felt
- 18:27Speaker 1: like maybe they were gonna go a little more zone
- 18:29Speaker 1: heavy on defense. I was kind of disappointed. Yeah, Like,
- 18:31Speaker 1: I just think that. Look, I think if everybody could
- 18:34Speaker 1: play man all the time, they would. I think man's better,
- 18:37Speaker 1: but it's also a lot harder to execute, and that's
- 18:39Speaker 1: why teams don't do it as much. But if you
- 18:42Speaker 1: can play man heavy with your corners, I think there's
- 18:46Speaker 1: a massive advantage in being able to do that. And
- 18:49Speaker 1: they now have two solid, really like, that's one of
- 18:52Speaker 1: the better cornerback duels in the league. Two good, really
- 18:55Speaker 1: good man corners on the outside, guys that you can
- 18:58Speaker 1: kind of pick and choose your matt ups. Gonzalez is
- 19:01Speaker 1: a little more athletic, little more agile, a little more crafty.
- 19:05Speaker 1: Davis can do that stuff, but I would categorize him
- 19:07Speaker 1: as more of a bully. And the other thing is,
- 19:11Speaker 1: and let's not lose sight of this. Everybody talks about
- 19:14Speaker 1: all right, well they you know, Milton Williams, Harold Landry, Kiris, Tonga, Robertsplane,
- 19:19Speaker 1: like they worked on the front, they worked on the rush.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Carlton Davis I would put him in that category two
- 19:25Speaker 1: because in theory, if you have Gonzales and Davis on
- 19:28Speaker 1: the outside, you should be picking up more coverage sacks. Now, right,
- 19:32Speaker 1: those two, those two guys are Davis with Gonzalez. Adding
- 19:35Speaker 1: Davis to Gonzalez helps the pass rush as well. So
- 19:38Speaker 1: I just think, not just a good player, it's not
- 19:40Speaker 1: so much. I think Carlton Davis is an unbelievable player.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I think he's a really solid player. But what he does,
- 19:45Speaker 1: what his skill sets are, what he brings also a
- 19:48Speaker 1: guy that has won at a high level, won a
- 19:51Speaker 1: chip with the Bucks, made a run last year with
- 19:53Speaker 1: the Lions. Kind of running out of those guys. Only
- 19:56Speaker 1: have five guys left here who won a Super Bowl here,
- 19:58Speaker 1: and we haven't had to think about this in New
- 20:00Speaker 1: England for a long time, but this is what the
- 20:02Speaker 1: other thirty one franchise had to do for years. You
- 20:04Speaker 1: kind of want to have a guy or two in
- 20:05Speaker 1: the room who's won a Super Bowl just to kind
- 20:08Speaker 1: of give that experience. Obviously, they still have a few left.
- 20:11Speaker 1: But Carlton Davis, the guy, he's won at a high level.
- 20:13Speaker 1: He plays physically, he plays on the outside. He gives
- 20:15Speaker 1: them size, he gives them physicality. The way he fits right,
- 20:19Speaker 1: the way he fits what they need to me. Makes
- 20:22Speaker 1: a good player, a great signing because he's gonna make
- 20:26Speaker 1: It's gonna help Christian Zales, it's gonna help the pass rush.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Like he just kind of elevates what they already had
- 20:31Speaker 1: in place.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Yeah, physical corner, pressman corner. Yeah, really good at the
- 20:36Speaker 2: line of scrimmage. You know, he has great length and
- 20:38Speaker 2: physicality to just smother releases in press man and make
- 20:42Speaker 2: receivers work through contact. And all that good stuff. First
- 20:45Speaker 2: and second level routes are really tough against him. He's
- 20:48Speaker 2: really good at those, especially in breakers. You know, if
- 20:50Speaker 2: you're gonna run a slant, you're gonna run a dig,
- 20:53Speaker 2: You're gonna have to finish through some contact and make
- 20:55Speaker 2: some contested catches against the guy like Carlon Davis. His
- 20:58Speaker 2: one other than Durabil over the years has been up
- 21:01Speaker 2: and down. He doesn't have great long speed, so he
- 21:04Speaker 2: can get beat deep sometimes. But when you have Christian
- 21:07Speaker 2: Gonzalez on the other side, like maybe the safety help
- 21:09Speaker 2: goes to the Carlon Davis a little bit more often.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And this is where I'd like to see them ad
- 21:13Speaker 1: that true free safety. Yeah, on the back end, because
- 21:15Speaker 1: if you can allow both Gonzalese and Davis to play
- 21:18Speaker 1: more aggressive in the shorter intermediate, you're gonna turn two
- 21:21Speaker 1: guys who are primarily locked down corners maybe into kind
- 21:24Speaker 1: of ball hooks.
- 21:24Speaker 2: Yeah. So I watched I watched a couple games of Davis's,
- 21:28Speaker 2: but I watched him against Christian Watson with the Packers
- 21:31Speaker 2: because I wanted to see him against a real speed receiver.
- 21:34Speaker 2: It's a tough matchup for a guy like him. And
- 21:37Speaker 2: he did really really well outside of two plays, but
- 21:39Speaker 2: those two plays went for like sixty yards apiece. Because
- 21:43Speaker 2: he does sometimes lose some of those foot races down
- 21:46Speaker 2: the field. You know, Watson ran by him on a
- 21:48Speaker 2: go ball on one and then you know a crossing
- 21:50Speaker 2: route where he got caught up in some traffic. I'll
- 21:53Speaker 2: give him that, but you know, just going across the field,
- 21:55Speaker 2: those types of foot races can be a little bit tough,
- 21:58Speaker 2: especially if he's playing off coverage and not playing up
- 22:01Speaker 2: on the line of scrimmage where you can get his
- 22:02Speaker 2: hands on guys. The go ball was like soft press,
- 22:05Speaker 2: so he wasn't really jamming, he was just kind of
- 22:07Speaker 2: mirroring and and Watson ran by him. So if you
- 22:10Speaker 2: manage his matchups though, and you put him against you know,
- 22:15Speaker 2: the bigger bodied guys, or you put him against the
- 22:17Speaker 2: guys that aren't quite as dynamic down the field, and
- 22:20Speaker 2: Gonzalez he's just, you know, can run with anybody, and
- 22:24Speaker 2: runs with Tyreek Hill, so he can run with anybody.
- 22:27Speaker 2: You know, he covers the true speed guy, then you're
- 22:30Speaker 2: in good shape. And it's not exactly the same, but
- 22:32Speaker 2: it kind of reminds me of Revis and Browner, where
- 22:34Speaker 2: like Revis was, you know, this guy that could cover
- 22:37Speaker 2: anybody he wanted, and I think Christian Gonzalez is that
- 22:40Speaker 2: type of dude, and Browner was just that physical you know,
- 22:43Speaker 2: jam and macnidean type of player. And as long as
- 22:46Speaker 2: you kept Browner in the right matchups, he was really
- 22:50Speaker 2: really effective. And I think the same thing is going
- 22:52Speaker 2: to be true with Carlton Davis.
- 22:54Speaker 1: So I love it.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I love the size on the outside, I love the
- 22:57Speaker 2: physicality he brings, the edge that he brings. This is
- 23:00Speaker 2: what they've been missing for multiple years now at that
- 23:04Speaker 2: second cornerback spot, Gonzo's rookie year. I'd be really going
- 23:08Speaker 2: back to twenty twenty two. I would say they've been
- 23:11Speaker 2: playing Miles Bryant, Marcus Jones, Jonathan Jones out on the
- 23:16Speaker 2: boundary at of necessity. So they have a guy now
- 23:19Speaker 2: in Carlton Davis that belongs out there, that belongs playing
- 23:23Speaker 2: in that spot. So that's exciting.
- 23:25Speaker 1: And when they face some of these faster teams, like
- 23:26Speaker 1: we'll see what happens with Jonathan Jones, it still mix.
- 23:29Speaker 1: Maybe that's a game where Carlton Davis plays a little less,
- 23:31Speaker 1: Jonathan Jones plays a little more, they get another speedier corner
- 23:34Speaker 1: on the outside, is kind of an alternate to Carlton
- 23:37Speaker 1: Davis like they have they had They didn't need a
- 23:40Speaker 1: lot of corners, They just needed one guy to slot
- 23:41Speaker 1: everybody incorrectly. Bring Jonathan Jones back or some other speedier
- 23:45Speaker 1: you know, backup slot corner, and now you're in good
- 23:48Speaker 1: shape and you have a ton of options with how
- 23:50Speaker 1: you want to pick your matchups.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Right, they have Marcus Jones under contract, and I like,
- 23:54Speaker 2: just let's call for what it is. We're really talking
- 23:57Speaker 2: about Miami, right, And like when you go up against
- 23:59Speaker 2: Miami and you have Tyrak Kill and Jalen Wattle, we
- 24:02Speaker 2: know Gonzales can stay with Tyreek Hill, so he's probably
- 24:05Speaker 2: gonna cover Hill. Does Marcus Jones cover Jalen Wattle in
- 24:09Speaker 2: that matchup instead of Carlton Davis. I love the idea
- 24:12Speaker 2: potentially of Carlton Davis then playing more of like a
- 24:15Speaker 2: nickel role in that kind of game. Yeah, and having
- 24:17Speaker 2: some size inside when they go twelve personnel, they go heavy.
- 24:21Speaker 1: And that's another thing about Davis. He's really good against
- 24:23Speaker 1: the run.
- 24:23Speaker 2: Yeah, you can play him against the run. He can
- 24:25Speaker 2: play tight ends like potentially like receiving tight ends. Like
- 24:28Speaker 2: I think that he has a size and the ability
- 24:31Speaker 2: to guard those types of players too inside, So maybe
- 24:33Speaker 2: in those types of matchups they move him around a
- 24:37Speaker 2: little bit to get him off of those speedy receivers.
- 24:40Speaker 2: I think that that could really be huge for them
- 24:43Speaker 2: if that's what they're able to do and those types
- 24:45Speaker 2: of things. All right, Robert Splane probably my favorite signing.
- 24:50Speaker 2: I know it sounds that's weird for me to be
- 24:53Speaker 2: that into an inside linebacker, but the linebacker play on
- 24:57Speaker 2: this team last year just drove me bananas. Yeah, I
- 25:00Speaker 2: just would pull my hair out every single Monday watching
- 25:03Speaker 2: the film back of their linebacker play last year. And
- 25:06Speaker 2: Spalane is one of those guys that just is all
- 25:10Speaker 2: over the ball all the time. I mean, he had
- 25:11Speaker 2: one hundred and fifty six tackles last year, and I
- 25:13Speaker 2: know tackles. Some people don't like the stat anymore, but
- 25:16Speaker 2: you don't make one hundred and fifty tackles by accident, right, Like,
- 25:19Speaker 2: if you're around the ball that much, good things are
- 25:21Speaker 2: happening when you're out there. Really underrated run defender, he's
- 25:25Speaker 2: sneaky good in zone coverage, like he's kind of got
- 25:28Speaker 2: like a nose for the football. Is five picks over
- 25:31Speaker 2: the last two years, mostly in zone coverage.
- 25:34Speaker 1: I think he had seventy nine pass breakups last year.
- 25:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I wouldn't put him in Manton man against like
- 25:39Speaker 2: tough assignments like if you have a pass catching running
- 25:42Speaker 2: back or dynamic tight ends and things like that. I
- 25:45Speaker 2: wouldn't necessarily say that he's smooth enough in terms of
- 25:49Speaker 2: that in coverage, but he's got a really good knack
- 25:54Speaker 2: over the middle of the field for those, you know,
- 25:56Speaker 2: those short zone drops, just kind of feeling out those
- 25:59Speaker 2: routes and being able to jump routes from those underneath spots.
- 26:03Speaker 2: He's two hundred and thirty pounds, so he's a little
- 26:05Speaker 2: bit more undersized, a little bit faster, a little bit
- 26:09Speaker 2: more sidelined to sideline to him than what they've had
- 26:11Speaker 2: in the past. But most of all, I just think
- 26:13Speaker 2: he plays like a maniac. Like I think he plays
- 26:15Speaker 2: with his hair on fire. He plays physical, he plays
- 26:18Speaker 2: through blocks, and that's something that they just didn't have
- 26:21Speaker 2: last year.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Old school line old school mentality, modern linebacker skill set.
- 26:26Speaker 1: Does that make sense? Like he is, he's I'm sure
- 26:29Speaker 1: he's a very nice guy, but on the field, mean
- 26:32Speaker 1: plays a nasty flies around, always near the football, doesn't
- 26:36Speaker 1: miss a chance to deliver a big hit. But he
- 26:40Speaker 1: can move. He can move, he can get sideline a sideline,
- 26:42Speaker 1: he can explode in the backfield when he needs And
- 26:44Speaker 1: the other thing is like a lot of these linebackers.
- 26:46Speaker 1: So the initial report was that the Patriots were in
- 26:48Speaker 1: on Jamien Sherwood. Yeah, Jamien Sherwoods two hundred and sixteen pounds. Yeah,
- 26:52Speaker 1: And that worried me a little bit. And I don't
- 26:54Speaker 1: like Sherwood's twenty five Splain's twenty nine. So there's something
- 26:56Speaker 1: to be said for upside and all that. But Splaine
- 26:59Speaker 1: six to one, two nine, Like, he's not small, he's
- 27:02Speaker 1: not big. He's not the two hundred and sixty pound
- 27:04Speaker 1: linebacker we're used to seeing here, you know, like Juwan Bentley,
- 27:08Speaker 1: but he still has some size to him and he
- 27:10Speaker 1: can still handle some of those old school linebacker roles.
- 27:13Speaker 1: So I I don't know, looking back on it, like,
- 27:17Speaker 1: did they almost end up better off? We're sure we're
- 27:19Speaker 1: going back to the Jets and ending up with Splaine.
- 27:21Speaker 2: They definitely ended up with the more physical player. Yeah,
- 27:23Speaker 2: and Splaine and I also think that, you know, he's
- 27:26Speaker 2: one of those guys that plays with energy and plays
- 27:30Speaker 2: with like a joy to him a little bit. That
- 27:32Speaker 2: not saying that Surewood doesn't play with energy, but I
- 27:35Speaker 2: don't know if like Spolaine is gonna be one. I'm
- 27:38Speaker 2: telling you he's gonna be one of those guys that
- 27:40Speaker 2: is gonna get this place going a little bit. You know,
- 27:43Speaker 2: Like I think that he's gonna make some plays and
- 27:45Speaker 2: he's gonna get up out off the pile and be
- 27:47Speaker 2: screaming and stuff like that. He just has like an
- 27:49Speaker 2: edge to him.
- 27:50Speaker 1: This is still unlike you forget. They don't show that
- 27:53Speaker 1: on the All twenty two.
- 27:53Speaker 2: You know how bad the defense in the middle of
- 27:56Speaker 2: the field was last year.
- 27:57Speaker 1: I couldn't they don't. This is what I always say
- 27:59Speaker 1: when you watch the All twenty two. You lose the
- 28:01Speaker 1: stuff in between the whistles, you lose penalties, you lose
- 28:04Speaker 1: like body language, emotion. But he is not a lot
- 28:06Speaker 1: of it on there.
- 28:07Speaker 2: You know what it was.
- 28:08Speaker 1: And I don't me wrong. I like that you have
- 28:11Speaker 1: the stage.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I like the player. I I mentioned this yesterday
- 28:17Speaker 2: on Unfiltered, but last year, you know me, I'll find
- 28:22Speaker 2: myself on a Monday night. Tuesday night when I'm doing
- 28:25Speaker 2: all my film stuff, for some reason, I'm watching The
- 28:28Speaker 2: Raiders Defense. Like no, no one knows why, Like why
- 28:31Speaker 2: did I end up here? I couldn't tell you, but
- 28:34Speaker 2: you know there's cross tape or whatever, and like they're
- 28:36Speaker 2: playing an offense and played the Raiders and I'm just
- 28:40Speaker 2: ending up here. Okay, So I'm ending up here on
- 28:42Speaker 2: the Raiders Defense. And every time you turned on the
- 28:45Speaker 2: film with the Raiders Defense, even over the last two years,
- 28:47Speaker 2: I would say this blame guy just keeps flashing, like
- 28:50Speaker 2: he keeps making plays.
- 28:51Speaker 1: He just shows up.
- 28:53Speaker 2: He's always around the ball and and he's he's sort
- 28:56Speaker 2: of like the film junkies, like the guys on Twitter
- 29:00Speaker 2: that are always posting clips and stuff like that. We
- 29:02Speaker 2: all kind of just love Splaine. Like I don't know
- 29:04Speaker 2: what it is. It just is one of those guys
- 29:06Speaker 2: that is underrated. And I set it off the top
- 29:09Speaker 2: of the show that it feels like somebody's paying attention again,
- 29:12Speaker 2: which is nice. I feel like somebody's watching the tape. Right.
- 29:15Speaker 2: We're not We're not just going out there and oh
- 29:18Speaker 2: I heard that guy right, Like we're actually going out
- 29:20Speaker 2: and watching film and understanding who these players are. And
- 29:24Speaker 2: Splaine is one of those guys. To me, that shows
- 29:26Speaker 2: that someone did some homework, Like this is a this
- 29:28Speaker 2: is a good poll, like this is yeah some you know. Oh,
- 29:31Speaker 2: like Zach Bond's a free agent, so we're just gonna
- 29:34Speaker 2: give Zach Bond.
- 29:35Speaker 1: It's been underrated. It came into the league as Udfa
- 29:38Speaker 1: played two games with the Titans, went to Pittsburgh, started
- 29:40Speaker 1: off as he like a primary special teamer, worked his
- 29:43Speaker 1: way in rotation or all. He started all seventeen games
- 29:46Speaker 1: last few years for the Raiders. Like this is a
- 29:47Speaker 1: guy that built his way up quietly.
- 29:49Speaker 2: Yep, absolutely all right, Uh that was the defense most Yeah,
- 29:55Speaker 2: that was. I want to talk about Tonga. So Tonga
- 30:00Speaker 2: a space eater, right, Like Tonga is a space heating
- 30:02Speaker 2: nose tackle.
- 30:03Speaker 1: And so just when you're worried, I think you had
- 30:04Speaker 1: texted me this, yeah that, like you know, these are
- 30:07Speaker 1: good signings, right, they're bringing good players, nothing wrong with that,
- 30:09Speaker 1: but like, are they getting a little too small on defense?
- 30:13Speaker 2: They were one big boys short yep on the defense.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Six foot four three eight pound chiris Tonga shows Yeah, every.
- 30:20Speaker 2: Once in a while, I got a feel for the league,
- 30:21Speaker 2: you know, every once in a.
- 30:22Speaker 1: While, So you knew when you texted me that.
- 30:25Speaker 2: No, I didn't say that.
- 30:26Speaker 1: I didn't know.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Because it was like five minutes before they signed thex
- 30:30Speaker 2: SO Tonga, Like you said, space eater, big dude, gonna
- 30:35Speaker 2: clog rushing lands, great short yardage player.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Uh.
- 30:39Speaker 2: What I really like about the Tonga signing though, and
- 30:42Speaker 2: this is this is where my nerdom comes in. Like
- 30:44Speaker 2: they moved Von Godshaw who was a good player but
- 30:49Speaker 2: probably overpriced for what the role is that he was
- 30:51Speaker 2: going to play, especially in this defense, and they get
- 30:55Speaker 2: a significantly better value in Tonga and he's probably gonna
- 30:59Speaker 2: play the same apps that Devon Gotcha was gonna play.
- 31:02Speaker 2: So is it maybe a little bit worse of a player.
- 31:04Speaker 2: I guess you could make that case. But now they
- 31:07Speaker 2: have Milton Williams, now they have Harold Landry. And this
- 31:10Speaker 2: is just from a math standpoint or a financial standpoint,
- 31:14Speaker 2: Like to me, this is a shrewd move, like you
- 31:16Speaker 2: trim salary with Devon Gotshaw, but you still have a
- 31:19Speaker 2: Devon Godshaw type player in tongue.
- 31:21Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they because he's just with Gosh Gotcha played
- 31:25Speaker 1: over fifty percent. Last year they played like fifty five percent.
- 31:28Speaker 1: This guy probably thirty percent of the place. Right, He's
- 31:30Speaker 1: just gonna be on the field when they need to
- 31:31Speaker 1: stop the run. That's it. You didn't need to pay
- 31:34Speaker 1: that guy they opened up this year. It's minimal, but
- 31:35Speaker 1: next year eight million dollars in gap. Uh, you didn't
- 31:38Speaker 1: need to be paying that for what that role is
- 31:40Speaker 1: gonna be and and and and tongs of the player.
- 31:43Speaker 1: He's gonna take up space and and that's what they needed.
- 31:46Speaker 2: They needed another big body. I want to get to
- 31:49Speaker 2: what we still think they needs. I don't want to
- 31:51Speaker 2: keep on.
- 31:51Speaker 1: I know we were gonna end up leaving off one
- 31:54Speaker 1: guy that no, no, no, that's fine.
- 31:55Speaker 2: I just meant like, I have a couple more they
- 31:57Speaker 2: still need, but on defense. But we'll to that in
- 32:00Speaker 2: a second. I want to do that separately, all right. Offensively,
- 32:04Speaker 2: Morgan Moses, who is like a agent like fine wine,
- 32:08Speaker 2: like he's an agent. Wonder his best years of his
- 32:11Speaker 2: career last year. Yeah, he plays for the most part,
- 32:15Speaker 2: he plays every game for like eleven straight years. Yeah,
- 32:18Speaker 2: it's pretty incredible. The durability. This was exactly what we
- 32:22Speaker 2: were talking about on the offensive line going into free agency,
- 32:25Speaker 2: just give me somebody that is an NFL player at
- 32:28Speaker 2: the position right And we were talking more about about tackle,
- 32:32Speaker 2: but I think you mentioned guard, and I've been big
- 32:34Speaker 2: on a left guard as a potential hole here. But
- 32:37Speaker 2: in terms of right tackle, just give me somebody who
- 32:40Speaker 2: is an NFL player at that position, uh not, not
- 32:43Speaker 2: someone that is off the scrap heap or off someone
- 32:46Speaker 2: else's you know, practice squad, an NFL player. And that's
- 32:50Speaker 2: exactly what Morgan Moses is. He's a people mover in
- 32:53Speaker 2: the run game, really really physical blocker. I think him
- 32:56Speaker 2: next to Mike gon When, who was a great run
- 32:58Speaker 2: blocking right side offensive line. Those guys on double teams
- 33:02Speaker 2: and gap schemes and things, they're gonna move some people
- 33:05Speaker 2: on that side of the line of scrimmage, which is good.
- 33:07Speaker 2: I think that's what Josh McDaniels wants. I think that's
- 33:09Speaker 2: what his offense wants. I always go back to his
- 33:13Speaker 2: ideal right side of Marcus Cannon and Shaq Mason, like
- 33:17Speaker 2: you just want two bulldozers over there that can really
- 33:20Speaker 2: move the line of scrimmage. I think they have that again,
- 33:23Speaker 2: and I watched Moses against Chop Robinson because that was
- 33:27Speaker 2: the one thing I had concerned kind of like with
- 33:29Speaker 2: Davis was speed. Just on the other side, I was
- 33:32Speaker 2: worried about the twitched up guys, like are those speed
- 33:34Speaker 2: rushers like a Chop Robinson at thirty four years old,
- 33:38Speaker 2: is he still meeting them, you know, at the junction
- 33:41Speaker 2: point of the rush, and is he still able to
- 33:43Speaker 2: protect his edge against Chop Robinson. And chop Robinson got
- 33:47Speaker 2: him a few times. But I thought that he did
- 33:48Speaker 2: pretty well and held up pretty well, really good, you know,
- 33:52Speaker 2: out of his stand still. I think he gains plenty
- 33:54Speaker 2: of ground. There still blocks inside out, so you're not
- 33:58Speaker 2: seeing a lot of like really quick losses on his tape,
- 34:02Speaker 2: and that's encouraging. It's you're not gonna get those like
- 34:05Speaker 2: blowbys where it's just no contest. So I know, think
- 34:08Speaker 2: he's the most fleet of foot at this point. He's
- 34:10Speaker 2: not a great uh lateral, you know, redirect athlete, so
- 34:15Speaker 2: he's gonna have some issues with those types of guys sometimes,
- 34:18Speaker 2: but again, he's not gonna get blown by consistently, at
- 34:22Speaker 2: least professional player, professional solid player a little bit older.
- 34:26Speaker 2: I doubt he plays the whole three years of the contract,
- 34:28Speaker 2: but they just needed somebody to get them the level
- 34:31Speaker 2: at one of those tackle spots, and he'll do that.
- 34:33Speaker 2: It's not a position, and we're not gonna at least
- 34:35Speaker 2: one spot we know we're not gonna have to go
- 34:37Speaker 2: into camp when tackle spot that we know we're not
- 34:39Speaker 2: gonna have to go in to camp and be like,
- 34:41Speaker 2: all right, well, this guy's the favorite, but this guy
- 34:43Speaker 2: could win the RP.
- 34:44Speaker 1: No Morgan Moses. If Morgan Moses is losing that spot,
- 34:48Speaker 1: something probably went unexpectedly wrongly. Yeah, that's his job. Yeah,
- 34:53Speaker 1: solid player. Gives them another year to develop Kane Wallace
- 34:57Speaker 1: if they want, although maybe they end up moving him
- 34:58Speaker 1: to guard or something like that, but gives them some
- 35:01Speaker 1: flexibility there, walks Mike O and whnu Wint right guard
- 35:05Speaker 1: for the first time in his NFL career. Mike went
- 35:08Speaker 1: who can spend the entire offseason preseason just focusing on
- 35:12Speaker 1: one position? Right, should spend the entire offseason? Uh, preseason
- 35:16Speaker 1: focusing on one position. You talked a lot about pass
- 35:19Speaker 1: pro there. I think you're gonna have a lot of
- 35:21Speaker 1: fun running off that right side between on When and
- 35:24Speaker 1: Morgan Moses. I think there's a lot of potential there.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Solid signing, solid signing. Not you know, nobody's doom cart
- 35:31Speaker 1: wheels or anything, but like box checked for sure, that
- 35:34Speaker 1: box is checked. Good right tackle for this year, not
- 35:38Speaker 1: a question.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Yeah. How relieving is that to have a good spot
- 35:41Speaker 2: to not have to go into the camp and well
- 35:44Speaker 2: it could you know they've drafted Wallace in the third
- 35:46Speaker 2: round and you know they have you know, this veteran
- 35:49Speaker 2: that's Riley Reef over there gets waved.
- 35:53Speaker 1: And yeah, no not not not at right tackle. We'll
- 35:56Speaker 1: see that left. Yeah, not doing that at right tackle. Yeah.
- 35:59Speaker 2: The last thing on Moses that I really like talking
- 36:02Speaker 2: to Brandon Thorne, who's kind of my my O line
- 36:06Speaker 2: guy that I like to pick his brain a lot
- 36:08Speaker 2: about this kind of stuff. And uh he he did
- 36:11Speaker 2: point out that really good in the room, like a
- 36:13Speaker 2: really good leader. He's going to take these guys that
- 36:16Speaker 2: they draft, you know, they draft a rookie left tackle,
- 36:19Speaker 2: Caden Wallace in his second season, Laden Robinson in his
- 36:22Speaker 2: second season. Uh, he's going to take these guys under
- 36:25Speaker 2: his wing. He's going to show him the ropes. He's
- 36:27Speaker 2: going to teach them how to be professionals. And I
- 36:30Speaker 2: think that that's important. I think that's a good part
- 36:33Speaker 2: of that as well. Good culture guy experienced steady Brandon
- 36:37Speaker 2: Nudd every year does a O line rankings and he
- 36:41Speaker 2: had he had everybody in tears, and uh, Moses was
- 36:46Speaker 2: in his average NFL starter tier, which I think is
- 36:50Speaker 2: exactly what he is. You know, he's a steady, reliable,
- 36:54Speaker 2: average right tackle in the league, which is so much
- 36:57Speaker 2: better than what they had last year. So we're in
- 37:00Speaker 2: proving there in that spot as well. And you know,
- 37:03Speaker 2: we'll get to the rest of the line here in
- 37:04Speaker 2: the second which is still a big question marking a
- 37:06Speaker 2: big concern Mac Collins. This one is I'm okay with it.
- 37:13Speaker 2: I know it's not what everybody wants out a wide receiver.
- 37:17Speaker 2: I know that a lot of people, you know, I
- 37:18Speaker 2: posted some clips of him on Twitter and everybody was like,
- 37:21Speaker 2: don't try to convince us that this guy is a
- 37:23Speaker 2: wide receiver one. You know, no one's trying to convince
- 37:26Speaker 2: you that Matt Collins is the cure to all their
- 37:29Speaker 2: ills at the wide receiver position. But similar to what
- 37:31Speaker 2: we were just talking about with Moses, this is a
- 37:34Speaker 2: professional receiver that goes about things the right way. From
- 37:38Speaker 2: everything that everybody has talked about and in terms of
- 37:41Speaker 2: that side of it. How much of a mess that
- 37:44Speaker 2: receiver room was last year on and off the field.
- 37:48Speaker 2: This is a guy you're not gonna have to worry
- 37:49Speaker 2: about in terms of the off field locker room stuff.
- 37:53Speaker 2: And I actually think that he's got some sneaky juice.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Like it's not great, Like I'm not again, no one's
- 37:59Speaker 2: trying to convince you that Collins is the answer. But
- 38:02Speaker 2: some of the stuff that I saw on film, I
- 38:06Speaker 2: took me by surprise a little bit. Like he's got
- 38:08Speaker 2: a little bit of speed and some juice off the
- 38:11Speaker 2: line of scrimmage, you know, really good accelerator off the line,
- 38:15Speaker 2: and he's got some wiggle against press. He's got size,
- 38:18Speaker 2: you know, in the red zone. He's six foot four,
- 38:20Speaker 2: kind of five touchdowns last year for Buffalo. So I
- 38:23Speaker 2: do think that he is a guy that can be
- 38:25Speaker 2: used in the red zone as that type of player,
- 38:28Speaker 2: especially if he's gonna run routes out of that like
- 38:30Speaker 2: big slot role. Right you put him inside almost like
- 38:33Speaker 2: a tight end and have him, you know, run seams
- 38:36Speaker 2: and and cuts and stuff like that down by the
- 38:38Speaker 2: goal line. He's got a nice catch radius and size
- 38:40Speaker 2: to him. It plays on special teams. You know he's
- 38:43Speaker 2: gonna be a four down player for you. I had
- 38:45Speaker 2: really good production with Josh McDaniels.
- 38:48Speaker 1: Solid, solid depth, Yeah, solid on spectacle. I saw a
- 38:52Speaker 1: lot of people felt strongly about this one one way
- 38:55Speaker 1: or the other, and I just I couldn't find it
- 38:57Speaker 1: either way. Like, he definitely checks and boxes they need
- 39:00Speaker 1: to check six four two twenty one because you size
- 39:02Speaker 1: in that room. He is probably is his safe stays
- 39:06Speaker 1: the only true X on the roster. I know they
- 39:08Speaker 1: played Kishon Booty out there, but that's because they don't
- 39:11Speaker 1: have anybody else, right.
- 39:12Speaker 2: Yeah, No, he's He's the guy that can definitely play
- 39:14Speaker 2: the X. I think he's better as a big slot,
- 39:17Speaker 2: which I feel like as we say that a lot.
- 39:19Speaker 1: Well he hasn't, but he hasn't done that a lot
- 39:21Speaker 1: in his career.
- 39:22Speaker 2: No, but I thought that, you know, in Buffalo last year,
- 39:24Speaker 2: I was I thought that was his best tape was
- 39:27Speaker 2: playing inside. I think that that way there. You know,
- 39:30Speaker 2: his speed in his size against nickel corners or safeties
- 39:33Speaker 2: is a lot harder to defend for guys that play
- 39:36Speaker 2: full time on the outside at defensive back, Like when
- 39:40Speaker 2: he gets into the inside part of the field. I
- 39:42Speaker 2: at six foot Fouries, he's got some girth. You know,
- 39:44Speaker 2: he's got some size to him.
- 39:45Speaker 1: I guess they need somebody to play the X. And again,
- 39:47Speaker 1: either way, he brings size that they didn't have. He
- 39:49Speaker 1: bring experience. Uh, he brings that veteran leadership, and he
- 39:53Speaker 1: can play on special teams. They still need to do
- 39:55Speaker 1: a ton oft receivers. This doesn't really answer any of
- 39:57Speaker 1: the talent questions, but they needed depth in that room.
- 40:01Speaker 1: They needed somebody to push some of these younger guys
- 40:04Speaker 1: and bring in competition for them for more rotational roles.
- 40:07Speaker 1: I think he does that, but I mean this is
- 40:10Speaker 1: not a replacement for metcalf or Higgins or any of
- 40:13Speaker 1: those guys.
- 40:13Speaker 2: No, and it will be interesting and uh when we
- 40:16Speaker 2: talk about, well, you know what's going on, what's gonna
- 40:18Speaker 2: happen next here they have bodies at receiver, I'm not
- 40:22Speaker 2: saying they have any answers. And I want to keep
- 40:24Speaker 2: putting that out there until somebody eclipses and says, oh,
- 40:27Speaker 2: he said that they're fine at receiver. No, they have
- 40:30Speaker 2: a lot, a lot of They need a lot more
- 40:33Speaker 2: at receiver. But all of a sudden, I was texting
- 40:37Speaker 2: you last night about the you know, potential depth charts
- 40:40Speaker 2: and things like that. Uh, you know, what are you
- 40:42Speaker 2: gonna do with Booty? I actually even throw Kendrick Bourne
- 40:48Speaker 2: in this category, right, Kendrick Bourne, Booty Polk, Baker, like
- 40:53Speaker 2: those four guys, Yeah, because you're gonna have I would
- 40:57Speaker 2: think another draft pick at wide receiver, I would think, uh,
- 41:03Speaker 2: that's gonna make the.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Roster unless unless it's a high draft pick. Do you
- 41:06Speaker 1: need one? Like, like, what good does it do them
- 41:07Speaker 1: to take another receiver in the fourth round?
- 41:09Speaker 2: Well, this is my point, right is like you know
- 41:11Speaker 2: everybody's throwing out there, you know, sign Cooper Cup, draft
- 41:14Speaker 2: Ted McMillan. Like, I'm not saying don't, but I'm not
- 41:18Speaker 2: saying don't do those things. Yeah, I'm just saying that
- 41:21Speaker 2: when you start to really think about it, there's the
- 41:23Speaker 2: numbers there. You're gonna be giving up on on a
- 41:26Speaker 2: young player there that you just drafted, and probably Javon
- 41:30Speaker 2: Baker is probably the most likely guy. But still like
- 41:34Speaker 2: that that foursome of Bourne, Polk, Booty Baker. If you
- 41:40Speaker 2: go into the season thinking that right now, MATC Collins
- 41:43Speaker 2: and Pop Douglas I think are on the team yes, right,
- 41:45Speaker 2: And my guess is that they're gonna either sign or
- 41:47Speaker 2: trade or draft one more receiver that's gonna be on
- 41:50Speaker 2: the team. So you're really talking about two or three
- 41:53Speaker 2: spots that are left over there. MATC. Collins is already
- 41:56Speaker 2: sort of your fringe wide receiver for a special team guy, right,
- 42:00Speaker 2: So that spot's kind of already taken up. So you're
- 42:03Speaker 2: talking about two more true receivers that aren't gonna just
- 42:07Speaker 2: be kicking game contributors, making the roster out of four guys.
- 42:11Speaker 2: So someone between that foursome is gonna be is gonna
- 42:15Speaker 2: be out, And maybe that's for the best. Like I'm
- 42:18Speaker 2: not saying that that's necessarily a bad thing. It's just
- 42:20Speaker 2: something to consider when you start hearing, oh, they need
- 42:23Speaker 2: to double dip out receiver again, or they need to
- 42:26Speaker 2: sign this guy and draft that guy, like they're starting
- 42:29Speaker 2: to get the numbers are starting to get a little crazy, right, Yeah,
- 42:33Speaker 2: So I'm just interested to see how that all pans out.
- 42:36Speaker 2: But we'll get to more of that here in a second.
- 42:37Speaker 2: Let's wrap this up, Josh Dobbs, is the last move here,
- 42:41Speaker 2: and how are you feeling about the Manhattan Project Because
- 42:44Speaker 2: we're starting to get a little bit sweaty about this,
- 42:47Speaker 2: alex that your guy's not going to be here. Joe
- 42:49Speaker 2: Milton is who we're talking right.
- 42:51Speaker 1: If they get a good return for Joe Milton, he
- 42:53Speaker 1: goes somewhere, he's gonna have a chance to start, like,
- 42:55Speaker 1: I'd be incredibly happy for him. Yeah, and I think
- 42:57Speaker 1: it validates what Alexander did and what they did last
- 43:01Speaker 1: year taking them probably that was always the point. Right
- 43:04Speaker 1: when they drafted Joe Milton, we said, like, best case scenario,
- 43:07Speaker 1: you have a couple of showcase games, warm in the
- 43:09Speaker 1: preseason or late in the season, and he goes out
- 43:12Speaker 1: and you get back more than you drafted him. So
- 43:17Speaker 1: I'd be happy for him if they're able to do that. Now,
- 43:19Speaker 1: I'm not rushing that guy out the door. I think
- 43:21Speaker 1: there's value in having a good backup quarterback, and his
- 43:24Speaker 1: value I think can still go up and maybe you
- 43:26Speaker 1: get more. We talked about this a couple of weeks ago.
- 43:29Speaker 1: For anything less than one hundred and the top one
- 43:31Speaker 1: hundred pick, I just think you're spinning your tires to
- 43:33Speaker 1: what to go ahead and draft Brady Cook in the
- 43:35Speaker 1: seventh round and just start the process over. So I
- 43:38Speaker 1: wouldn't They definitely have more flexibility now because they have
- 43:41Speaker 1: another backup quarterback in place if they do trade Joe Milton,
- 43:44Speaker 1: if somebody blows them away. That being said, I would
- 43:48Speaker 1: not rule out the idea that they want to keep
- 43:50Speaker 1: three quarterbacks. Yeah, so what most teams do now when
- 43:53Speaker 1: you have that emergency quarterback rule on game days, teams
- 43:55Speaker 1: want to take advantage of that. It's not like they're
- 43:57Speaker 1: going to have a roster crunch. They're still kind of
- 43:59Speaker 1: building this thing up. And Josh Dobbs gives you a
- 44:03Speaker 1: veteran in that room. This is a guy that's the
- 44:04Speaker 1: Patriots or is eleventh NFL team? Yeah right, he's he
- 44:08Speaker 1: he's only played what five six NFL seasons, but there's
- 44:11Speaker 1: a lot of experience packed in there, and he's gonna
- 44:15Speaker 1: be a good mentor not mentor, but like good veteran
- 44:18Speaker 1: voice in the room for Drake May and Joe Milton.
- 44:20Speaker 1: He gives you an opportunity to have that third emergency
- 44:23Speaker 1: quarterback on game days. Stylistically, he's a fit with the
- 44:26Speaker 1: other two, so you're not gonna have to really have
- 44:28Speaker 1: him do things differently. What better you have two guys
- 44:31Speaker 1: with rocket arms to have a rocket scientist teach them
- 44:34Speaker 1: how to go about their their game.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Right, So how long have you been rehearsing that one?
- 44:38Speaker 1: I came up with it about ten minutes after they
- 44:40Speaker 1: signed him. Yeah, they like could they It makes it
- 44:45Speaker 1: Joe Milton trade easier. And maybe that's down the road.
- 44:48Speaker 1: Maybe that's at the end of camp, some team gets antsy.
- 44:50Speaker 1: Maybe I mean, at the time we're doing this podcast,
- 44:53Speaker 1: Rogers is still out there, Wilson's still out there, and
- 44:55Speaker 1: we'll see what happens with Kirk Cousins. Then you have
- 44:57Speaker 1: the draft. Maybe you get a team that you know,
- 45:00Speaker 1: get shaky and says, you know what, we we got
- 45:02Speaker 1: to give up more than we want because we've got
- 45:04Speaker 1: to come out of this with a quarterback. We're missing
- 45:05Speaker 1: on everybody. But so maybe maybe it gives them the
- 45:09Speaker 1: flexibility if the right offer comes along. But I don't
- 45:12Speaker 1: think they're going to north Should they just rush Joe
- 45:14Speaker 1: Milton out the door? What I said the other night
- 45:17Speaker 1: on Twitter, don't just trade Joe Milton for the best
- 45:20Speaker 1: you can get. Trade Joe Milton because somebody is giving
- 45:22Speaker 1: you a reason to trade Joe Milton, right if the
- 45:25Speaker 1: best offer is still not like significant, you really don't
- 45:29Speaker 1: need to be in a rush to trade him. And
- 45:31Speaker 1: the other thing I'll add to this just the Dobbs
- 45:32Speaker 1: signing as a whole, Like he got two years, eight million,
- 45:37Speaker 1: which is solid. It's not starting money, but it's solid
- 45:39Speaker 1: backup quarterback money. Sam Darnold got a hundred million dollars.
- 45:42Speaker 1: You saw somebody give up a fifth round pick for
- 45:44Speaker 1: Kenny Pickett. Yeah, these teams are going hard into the
- 45:49Speaker 1: veteran quarterback.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Market because they're terrified of the draft class.
- 45:52Speaker 1: Which might be so glass half fall a glass half empty.
- 45:55Speaker 1: These teams are going hard into the veteran quarterback market,
- 45:58Speaker 1: which might be a good sign for the Patriot because
- 46:00Speaker 1: it means none of the teams like the quarterbacks, which
- 46:02Speaker 1: means they won't go at the top of the draft.
- 46:03Speaker 1: The bad news for the Patriots is all the teams
- 46:05Speaker 1: winning the deals for these quarterbacks and trading for them
- 46:09Speaker 1: are not the teams at the top of the draft.
- 46:11Speaker 1: So do they get desperate and take somebody or does
- 46:14Speaker 1: it show you that those teams maybe feel better about
- 46:16Speaker 1: the quarterbacks that are available.
- 46:18Speaker 2: So I'm with you on Joe. I'm in no rush
- 46:21Speaker 2: to trade Joe Millen now if somebody comes in with
- 46:24Speaker 2: a second or third round pick, I would obviously strongly
- 46:27Speaker 2: consider a top one hundred, you know, value worth it maybe,
- 46:33Speaker 2: But I'm in no rush to trade Joe Millon. And
- 46:35Speaker 2: I look at Joe Millon the same way that I'm
- 46:38Speaker 2: sure in a lot of ways Bill Belichick looked at
- 46:40Speaker 2: Jimmy Garoppolo, or at the time, you're right over there
- 46:44Speaker 2: you get water Piper Jacoby Brissett, you know at the
- 46:48Speaker 2: time as well, like, don't trade them until you have
- 46:50Speaker 2: to trade them, right, if you.
- 46:51Speaker 1: Could get like a Phillip Dorset equivalent, actually that'd be great.
- 46:54Speaker 2: But just don't don't be in any rush. Like you
- 46:56Speaker 2: have a affordable rookie cost controlled rookie contract, backup quarterback
- 47:03Speaker 2: with upside, So don't don't be in this huge rush
- 47:06Speaker 2: to trade him. Now. Again, if if a team blows
- 47:09Speaker 2: you away with an offer that's ridiculous, you know, like
- 47:11Speaker 2: a second round pick comes over, you know, across the table.
- 47:14Speaker 2: Of course, you do it, right, But I don't be
- 47:16Speaker 2: in any rush. I don't buy some of this stuff
- 47:20Speaker 2: out there that Joe Milton sees himself as a starter
- 47:23Speaker 2: and like it's going to like cause issues in the
- 47:26Speaker 2: room with Drake May. I don't necessarily think that that's
- 47:30Speaker 2: the type of guy Joe Milton is.
- 47:33Speaker 1: I think that's more like an eventually thing, like eventually
- 47:36Speaker 1: he'd like to go somewhere where he has a start,
- 47:38Speaker 1: a chance to start, which of course he does. Yeah,
- 47:41Speaker 1: but I don't think like it needs to be right now, because,
- 47:43Speaker 1: like you said, that's just not the kind of guy
- 47:46Speaker 1: that he is. The only team I wonder like if
- 47:48Speaker 1: he sees a chance to go to the Rams and
- 47:50Speaker 1: get back with the alex man Pelt and continue on
- 47:52Speaker 1: the development path he was on last year, and you know,
- 47:55Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford, who knows how much longer he's going to
- 47:58Speaker 1: be there, that might be something that enticing.
- 48:00Speaker 2: Yeah. So last year when I wrote our feature on
- 48:04Speaker 2: Joe Milton, when they drafted him, and so I was
- 48:06Speaker 2: talking to some people down at the Senior Bowl about
- 48:09Speaker 2: him because he was down at the Senior Bowl, And
- 48:11Speaker 2: that was when I first started to get on the
- 48:13Speaker 2: bandwagon with you, if you remember correctly. So every year
- 48:16Speaker 2: at the Senior Bowl they hand out like a good
- 48:18Speaker 2: Guy Award, basically just one of the players that was
- 48:22Speaker 2: just above and beyond around around everybody. The re meeting
- 48:25Speaker 2: around the meeting rooms, the locker room. You're just a
- 48:28Speaker 2: great guy to be around.
- 48:29Speaker 1: Good.
- 48:29Speaker 2: Yeah, cool, Hang right, guess who won that award? Joe Milton.
- 48:33Speaker 2: So that you're telling me that that guy is now
- 48:35Speaker 2: going to start to try to strum up some quarterback
- 48:38Speaker 2: controversy between him and Drake May, I just don't. That's
- 48:41Speaker 2: not the vibe that I've gotten talking to people at
- 48:44Speaker 2: Michigan Tennessee, the Senior Bowl all throughout that process, that
- 48:49Speaker 2: he was the type of guy that was going to
- 48:51Speaker 2: do that. And I think that was part of the
- 48:52Speaker 2: reason why they felt comfortable double dipping and drafting him
- 48:55Speaker 2: last year because they didn't think that he was going
- 48:58Speaker 2: to cause a whole hullrible that he should be starting.
- 49:01Speaker 2: So I wouldn't be worried too much about that. But again,
- 49:04Speaker 2: if somebody blows you away with an offer that you
- 49:07Speaker 2: can't refuse, and you take it, but don't don't trade
- 49:10Speaker 2: Joe Millon for a fourth round pick just to trade him,
- 49:12Speaker 2: because then I think you have to draft another quarterback again, right,
- 49:15Speaker 2: and so then you're just using that pick to draft
- 49:17Speaker 2: another Joe Milton. So just keep Joe.
- 49:19Speaker 1: Milton, and there is not another Joe Milton in the draft.
- 49:21Speaker 1: There won't be another Joe Milton in the draft for
- 49:22Speaker 1: a long long time.
- 49:24Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a unique time, he is. He is. All right,
- 49:27Speaker 2: let's got to do some of these atterides and then
- 49:29Speaker 2: we're gonna take your phone calls because I know you
- 49:30Speaker 2: guys have been waiting. I know, I know you guys

- 50:13Speaker 2: the New England Patriots. You are big on the I'm
- 50:16Speaker 2: just gonna randomly have this football around and I'm gonna
- 50:19Speaker 2: toss it to do.
- 50:21Speaker 1: I do like to have a football around usually, just
- 50:24Speaker 1: because especially if I'm just like sitting on the couch
- 50:26Speaker 1: watching games, I just, you.
- 50:27Speaker 2: Know, are you visioning that you're you're gonna be playing
- 50:31Speaker 2: in this?
- 50:31Speaker 1: I mean, I'm always I know, I'm just always tempted
- 50:33Speaker 1: during the show to go take one of those footballs
- 50:35Speaker 1: off the wall and just kind of having my hands
- 50:37Speaker 1: during the show.
- 50:38Speaker 2: Our mouse is not working, manby, Marie can pull up
- 50:42Speaker 2: the calls. Mouse isn't working. Uh, you can pull up, Patty.
- 50:46Speaker 2: We'll just go in order.
- 50:47Speaker 1: It's not on.
- 50:49Speaker 2: I turned it on and then I turned it off
- 50:50Speaker 2: and it still doesn't work. Oh, we got it. Okay,
- 50:54Speaker 2: you're there, all right, all right, my bad, All right now.
- 50:59Speaker 3: Screener, you definitely are hi, guys doing today?
- 51:03Speaker 2: Good good?
- 51:05Speaker 3: All right. I just want to give a couple of
- 51:07Speaker 3: quick shout outs and then I'll get to my question.
- 51:10Speaker 3: A big shout out to Chester and Portland. You know.
- 51:13Speaker 3: He he basically said I was an idiot for not
- 51:18Speaker 3: looking more into Mac Collins and when I did. The
- 51:21Speaker 3: guy is kind of a character, and you know, maybe
- 51:23Speaker 3: I didn't gi him as much credit as he was
- 51:25Speaker 3: giving him. And if you look like in twenty twenty
- 51:28Speaker 3: two he had his best year with Josh, so maybe
- 51:31Speaker 3: that's positive going forward with him. You know, I'm not
- 51:33Speaker 3: saying he's gonna be Brandon Lafel or you know, any
- 51:38Speaker 3: anything in that mold, but you know, maybe we can
- 51:40Speaker 3: get some good, solid production for him. And I think
- 51:42Speaker 3: this guy might end up being a fan favorite. And
- 51:46Speaker 3: and the YouTube comments, let me shout out old Man
- 51:48Speaker 3: Mob because that guy's always on point. Now let's get
- 51:51Speaker 3: to my questions. Guys. Do you guys The first question
- 51:55Speaker 3: is do you think with the moves that we made
- 51:58Speaker 3: with Robert Splane, do you think Juwan Bentley still has
- 52:02Speaker 3: a role on this team, Because if it comes down
- 52:04Speaker 3: between him and Jilanni to buy I I actually want
- 52:08Speaker 3: to buy off this team. Like I don't want him
- 52:10Speaker 3: on here. Call me petty, but I don't like what.
- 52:14Speaker 3: I don't like how he presented as fans last last season.
- 52:18Speaker 3: You know, we're the ones that pay his salary, and
- 52:21Speaker 3: sometimes football, you know, football players need to get that
- 52:24Speaker 3: through their head that we're the ones that come to
- 52:27Speaker 3: the games, We're the ones that buy the jerseys, We're
- 52:29Speaker 3: the ones that watched the games on TV that that
- 52:32Speaker 3: helped this you know, ad revenue go through and help
- 52:35Speaker 3: get these guys paid. So I want I just want
- 52:37Speaker 3: him gone. And my second question is this is kind
- 52:41Speaker 3: of crazy. Let's say something absolutely bonkers happens at the
- 52:45Speaker 3: top of the draft and Will Campbell, Abdull Carter, and
- 52:50Speaker 3: Travis Hunter are all sitting there at number four. Who
- 52:54Speaker 3: do you take.
- 52:56Speaker 2: Off your guys? Yeah?
- 53:00Speaker 1: Twice about it. He's the best player in the draft.
- 53:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I would take Abdul Carter too. In terms of linebacker,
- 53:06Speaker 2: I don't know if there's any plans of releasing Tavai
- 53:10Speaker 2: or moving on from Bentley or anything like that. I
- 53:13Speaker 2: still see that Bentley and Spoayne can play together. Yeah,
- 53:18Speaker 2: I think Bentley is your mic Splain's your weak side
- 53:21Speaker 2: linebacker playing you know, in a four to two in
- 53:25Speaker 2: this defense. Maybe that means to Vay and Spolayne are
- 53:28Speaker 2: kind of in a competition for who is the best,
- 53:31Speaker 2: you know, compliment to Bentley there. But I still see
- 53:34Speaker 2: a role for Bentley on this team.
- 53:36Speaker 1: Bentley will still have a role, might be reduced. I mean,
- 53:38Speaker 1: he was playing ninety percent of the stamps before I got hurt.
- 53:40Speaker 1: Lest year, like that's gonna go down like sixty five seventy,
- 53:43Speaker 1: I would think, But he still has a role for sure.
- 53:46Speaker 1: I don't know if there's a role for Jelanne to Vai. Yeah,
- 53:48Speaker 1: I just don't know, especially when you consider anything that
- 53:50Speaker 1: happened last year, you're going to keep that guy around
- 53:52Speaker 1: in a backup role where he's not playing a ton
- 53:55Speaker 1: where he's probably gonna get frustrated. You know. I don't
- 53:58Speaker 1: know that, like you said, is anything imminent, I don't know.
- 54:01Speaker 1: But when we get around a training camp, we're talking
- 54:04Speaker 1: about guys on the bubble. If he's still here at
- 54:06Speaker 1: that point, that's definitely somebody I'd put us on the bubble.
- 54:08Speaker 1: If i'd do a roster projection today, I don't know
- 54:11Speaker 1: that i'd have him on the team.
- 54:13Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's fair. DeShawn is in Virginia. What's up
- 54:16Speaker 2: to Sean?
- 54:18Speaker 4: Oh gods, how do you guys doing?
- 54:19Speaker 2: Hate good?
- 54:22Speaker 4: I want to talk about three thirds. First, is the
- 54:23Speaker 4: safety part or whatever I mean? I have a hard
- 54:26Speaker 4: time understanding and the reason why they need to try
- 54:27Speaker 4: to go out to read because like it's been all
- 54:29Speaker 4: of something they had a traditional safety I ring your
- 54:31Speaker 4: city like that could cover out in space from sideline
- 54:34Speaker 4: to sideline, you know, that could like defend the run
- 54:36Speaker 4: as well as the past. So I'm smartly didn't go
- 54:39Speaker 4: out to read because douggars stucks. And I've been saying
- 54:41Speaker 4: this for a long time that they should have traded
- 54:43Speaker 4: him last year. Now, when it comes to certain things
- 54:47Speaker 4: about like far as, like the live backer situation, whatever,
- 54:49Speaker 4: I feel like guys like Ellis Mapoo would benefit this
- 54:52Speaker 4: year because I have more help wanting to defend the
- 54:54Speaker 4: times so ecthetic resport I said, they could play there
- 54:57Speaker 4: respectable roles better because of that of them boosting the
- 55:00Speaker 4: defense like that. Now, when when it comes to the offense,
- 55:03Speaker 4: we want to talk about you know, uh Holland. But
- 55:06Speaker 4: a lot of these guys I feel like would be
- 55:08Speaker 4: great if they had a number one receiver because they'd
- 55:11Speaker 4: been a player respectable roles as well. At the same
- 55:13Speaker 4: thing was apply to the offense. But the probably they
- 55:15Speaker 4: don't have a number one receiver to help everybody refill
- 55:19Speaker 4: their respectful role. That's the issue that's basically going on.
- 55:22Speaker 4: That's all I wanted to say.
- 55:23Speaker 2: Thanks to Sean, thanks for the call. Yeah, I think
- 55:25Speaker 2: as safety where we're all hoping that a true center
- 55:30Speaker 2: fielder is coming. You know, it's not gonna be. It's
- 55:33Speaker 2: not gonna be John Jevon Holland obviously he's not. I
- 55:35Speaker 2: think he's mentioned Justin Reed, who Yeah, did he sign somewhere?
- 55:39Speaker 1: Yeah, where'd he go? I don't know where he went.
- 55:41Speaker 1: I know he signed.
- 55:42Speaker 2: So you know, those guys aren't gonna be it. But
- 55:46Speaker 2: I don't know as I could see a vision where
- 55:49Speaker 2: it's not a full time player Justin Reid went to
- 55:52Speaker 2: the Saints, but that dron harmon role of uh, we're
- 55:56Speaker 2: gonna play an obvious past, you know, third down, two minutes,
- 56:00Speaker 2: four minute offenses at the end of games, you know,
- 56:03Speaker 2: that sort of thing, which is usually factors into a
- 56:06Speaker 2: good chunk of the snaps when you really think about it.
- 56:09Speaker 2: In those scenarios, I definitely think that that player could
- 56:13Speaker 2: be had. Like you mentioned, what's it a Cuba, right, Andrew.
- 56:16Speaker 1: So the two guys I look at, yes, right, if
- 56:19Speaker 1: they want to go in the first round, I guess
- 56:21Speaker 1: there'd be three. If they want to go in the
- 56:22Speaker 1: first round, it's Malachai Starks, but he's going to be
- 56:24Speaker 1: a top fifteen pick, so they it's not happening without
- 56:27Speaker 1: a ton of movement. Andrew mccooba from Texas in the
- 56:30Speaker 1: second round thirty eight might be a little rich, but
- 56:34Speaker 1: if they kind of hammer out some other needs here,
- 56:36Speaker 1: not totally out of character, Probably better off moving back
- 56:40Speaker 1: into the fifties and moving up from seventy to the
- 56:42Speaker 1: fifties for him. And then the Day three guys would
- 56:44Speaker 1: be early Day three probably at one oh six would
- 56:47Speaker 1: be Billy Bowman from Oklahoma. He is going to be
- 56:49Speaker 1: a true rotational player. I think mccuba maybe grows into
- 56:52Speaker 1: that guy that can play eighty five to ninety percent
- 56:55Speaker 1: of the time. Billy Bowman's gonna be rotational. You're gonna
- 56:57Speaker 1: be able to play him on the back end. He's
- 56:58Speaker 1: also going to be able to give you some hell
- 57:00Speaker 1: up in the slot. But I think he's a player
- 57:02Speaker 1: that could, certainly, if you're gonna do that situationally, fill
- 57:05Speaker 1: that role.
- 57:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that for right now. I don't think
- 57:09Speaker 2: they necessarily need anything more than a Deron Harmon in
- 57:12Speaker 2: terms of snap usage and playing over the top. So
- 57:16Speaker 2: I would be comfortable with like a mid round guy
- 57:18Speaker 2: like Billy Bowman in that spot. Starks is interesting to
- 57:21Speaker 2: me because I do wonder if his combine pushes him
- 57:25Speaker 2: down kind of like Brian branch treatment style.
- 57:28Speaker 1: That bad? Was it?
- 57:29Speaker 2: He didn't run very well?
- 57:31Speaker 1: Didn't Brian Branch run like a four to six? Yeah?
- 57:33Speaker 2: No, I would say Brian Branch was more in trouble
- 57:36Speaker 2: than him. Maybe, yeah, But Stark says, I still feel like,
- 57:40Speaker 2: if I can look it up, but if I remember
- 57:42Speaker 2: correctly off the top of my head, he had one
- 57:46Speaker 2: of those trust the tape type of combines, and there
- 57:49Speaker 2: are yeah, like there are some things on his tape too.
- 57:53Speaker 2: I didn't actually think that his tape was it didn't
- 57:56Speaker 2: blow me away.
- 57:56Speaker 1: Four or five flat thirty three inch vertical having two
- 58:00Speaker 1: three cone four four or five shots.
- 58:02Speaker 2: Yeah, it's not great. That's not great for you know,
- 58:05Speaker 2: a guy that's supposed to be playing in space in
- 58:07Speaker 2: the NFL. Right, So I would say that there's a
- 58:11Speaker 2: chance that Stark slips a little bit. Was he gonna
- 58:14Speaker 2: slip all the way to thirty eight? Like? Probably not,
- 58:17Speaker 2: but especially in a draft like this, But there's a
- 58:20Speaker 2: chance just because of that combine that you know, the
- 58:23Speaker 2: athletic testing knocks him down a little bit. Like when
- 58:26Speaker 2: I first started the process with the draft I it
- 58:28Speaker 2: starts was on my short list of guys because of
- 58:31Speaker 2: you know, top ten, top fifteen consideration. I didn't think
- 58:35Speaker 2: the tape was like that eye opening to me. I
- 58:37Speaker 2: wasn't blown away by what I saw. A good pursuit
- 58:40Speaker 2: player against the run has some versatility to you know,
- 58:44Speaker 2: he can play the nickel, he can play up top,
- 58:46Speaker 2: he can play in the box. He had some issues
- 58:49Speaker 2: with the angles and you know, tracking the ball down
- 58:53Speaker 2: the field from his perch, and it got beat badly
- 58:56Speaker 2: in that Texas game. I think it was I think
- 58:58Speaker 2: it was golden. That sounds right, yeah, and he just
- 59:02Speaker 2: he dove, you know for the ball and as it
- 59:05Speaker 2: over the top, missed it and then you know, sixty
- 59:08Speaker 2: yard touchdown right behind him. So there was some like
- 59:11Speaker 2: little things like that with his film that I didn't
- 59:13Speaker 2: think were It wasn't blown away, which was there, Like Branch.
- 59:17Speaker 2: Branch was a hell of a college player like that.
- 59:19Speaker 2: That was all overthink with the combine. If stars fell
- 59:23Speaker 2: a little bit, I don't think it would be as
- 59:25Speaker 2: much of an overthink for teams. So we'll see about that.
- 59:28Speaker 2: Paul is in Wallthams, I'd say, I don't know. I
- 59:31Speaker 2: just went blind for some reason. Paul, what's up?
- 59:34Speaker 4: Thank guys.
- 59:34Speaker 5: How you doing. I just got one quick question for
- 59:38Speaker 5: you coming out of this first few days of creagency.
- 59:41Speaker 5: What would you rank the three to four biggest holes
- 59:46Speaker 5: on the roster still and how would you rank them
- 59:48Speaker 5: in terms of we need this sorted by August first
- 59:53Speaker 5: we can try again next to season.
- 59:55Speaker 2: Yeah. Thanks for the call, Paul. That's a great segue
- 59:57Speaker 2: because that's exactly what I wanted to talk about next.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: So I think four is a good number. That's right
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: about where I'm at right now.
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: The two biggest are obviously wide receiver and left tackle.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: You're going to order though I'd flip those.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I probably would too. But I think the
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: difference is to me, is that at left tackle, like
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: if they signed, if they acquired, whatever way they go
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: about it, a Morgan Moses level talent to play left tackle,
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: I'd be okay with that.
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: That Cam Robinson.
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: Maybe it's Cam Robinson, I don't know. We can talk
- 1:00:28Speaker 2: about Cam Robinson here in.
- 1:00:30Speaker 1: Not Cam Robinson. I don't know who it is.
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: But my point is is that if they got NFL
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: average left tackle, I'd feel okay, whereas NFL average at
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: wide receiver. Isn't enough, right, they already have that. They
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: need better talent that wide receiver, Whereas I think you
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: can get away with having NFL average at the tackle spots,
- 1:00:46Speaker 2: so that that might be the one little difference in
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: terms of order there for me. But wide receiver left tackle,
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: I'm still gonna be pounding the table for an interior linement.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: I whether it's a center, it's a guard. So sign
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: somebody that in this veteran market that has played the position. Again,
- 1:01:06Speaker 2: just like Morgan Moses, like, just give me someone that
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: has played the position at an NFL starting level.
- 1:01:12Speaker 6: You know.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: It can be average, it can be adequate, but I
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: just want a body there that I can trust, sure
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: that I'm not putting all of my eggs in Cole Strange,
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: Leyden Robinson City. So Ben Brown, you know, to pull
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: out two starters from that group. Let's pull out one
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: starter from that group instead of two, And I feel
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: a lot better. On the defense side of the ball,
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: I still think they're an edge rusher short. I think
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: they need a pass rusher off the edge. It doesn't
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: they have enough, you know, Landry Anthony Jennings. They have
- 1:01:42Speaker 2: enough edge setters, somebody's just gonna pin his years back
- 1:01:45Speaker 2: third down Joshua Roll. You know, someone that's gonna be
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: a really good situational pass rush.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: But that like I don't know if we're just doing freegency,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: Like I feel really good about finding that guy on daytieh.
- 1:01:56Speaker 2: No draft is open on this as well. I would
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: say that that's a draft pick, you know, whether it's
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: somebody h on Day two on the second round. I
- 1:02:06Speaker 2: mean as Iraku princely, I'm not going to try to
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: pronounce his last name, and there we go. Who I
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: really liked by the way I watched him, every little
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: bit of recency bias with him, but I watched him
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: recently but before free agency. He's a good player.
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: He's in the YouTube check because they can literally get
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: josh Uchek.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, no, I'm a free agent. Yeah, we've done that.
- 1:02:28Speaker 2: But those two guys, you know, I don't know if
- 1:02:31Speaker 2: as Iraku will make it to thirty eight. He might
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: be a late first.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: If this is a thing where there's so many good
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: edge rushers that guys get there's so many limits at
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: other positions like receiver even quarterback right that guys get
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: pushed down because teams are okay being patient.
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not totally ruling out your Ohio State guys yet.
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: I don't think it's exactly what they need for the Yeah,
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: but I don't know if how much they're gonna trust
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: Keon White as a four to three n YEA canon
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: the dirt player. Jack Sawyer is definitely that, you know,
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: he's a hand in the dirt four three end. So
- 1:03:05Speaker 2: maybe if they look at it in terms of projecting
- 1:03:09Speaker 2: starting roles years from now, right like two years from now,
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: three years from now, maybe you could go in that
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: direction still, But I think we're all kind of gravitating
- 1:03:17Speaker 2: now more towards Princely Donovan Azarouki as a rock O
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: shore third round. You know my guy Josiah Stewart, you know,
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: just like a screamer off the edge like that I
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: think would go a long way. And and we've mentioned
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: free safety multiple times, like I feel like free safety
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: is still one of those positions that they can get,
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: they can get better at, and have somebody that is
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: truly comfortable playing center field.
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: If I was gonna do like the Big four right now,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: rank them left tackle wide receiver, but like a starting
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: wide receiver, not some guy that's gonna plug into the
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: middle of the depth chart right, muddy things further right,
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: left tackle unquestioned. Top of the depth chart. Wide receiver
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: would be two, free safety would be three, guard would
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: be four. And then I'll also just sneak in there.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: And these are drafts specific. I do still want to
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: see them even though Austin Hooper's back, I do still
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: want to see them draft the tight end. I want
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: to see them tap into this class and get the
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: next guy in the pipeline because Henry and Hooper both
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: over thirty, and I do want to see them draft
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: a running back, get some more depth in that room,
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: and also maybe push Stevenson and Gibson on the depth chart.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: Well that was you know, another good thing kind of
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: byproduct of what they did on Day one at free
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: agency is I feel like they still have enough picks
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: that they can make some of those luxury They have
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: some flexibility to do that because they don't need to
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: desperately sign or draft like three defensive linemen because they
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: didn't get anybody in free agency, or you know, get
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: a run stuffing linebacker in the draft, which I thought
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: was maybe like a sneaky need for the team. So
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: I look at you know, outside corner, another one.
- 1:04:53Speaker 1: Like that bus to check.
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: They easily could have drafted a Carlon Davis type player
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: on Day two or or you know, middle rounds of
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: this draft because out of necessity, because they needed to
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: fill that hole. Now they don't because of the way
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: that they've handled free agency so far. So they can
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: take a running back over the top. They can take
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: a tight end you know, even still and add him
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: to that room. And maybe it's more of a competition
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: with Jahem Bell, you know, to make the roster there
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: at tight end, or maybe all four of them make
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: the roster.
- 1:05:21Speaker 1: I again, forget about Robbie, you know full back. Would
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: you would you be in on them signing use check.
- 1:05:29Speaker 2: I said this yesterday and everybody mocked me because I
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: think I called him Kyle. Then yeah, I called him
- 1:05:34Speaker 2: Kyle and say, you know, first name basis right, Kyle Shanahan. Uh.
- 1:05:38Speaker 2: It worries me that Kyle Shanahan thinks that he's cooked.
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: Like if Kyle Shanahan think that he's cooked, or they
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: just totally hitting the reset.
- 1:05:45Speaker 2: Button over there, Kyle, that's like a that's like Kyle
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: Shanahan's like fifth son, Like you're like, I don't how
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: many sons he had. I just made that number up
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: like that that. But you know what I'm trying to.
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: If Kyle Shanahan Robbie and is clearing the way, no,
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: I like, I remember.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: A couple of years ago. This was a long time ago.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: You know, we're getting old. It's probably like around twenty nineteen. Yeah,
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: twenty twenty. I was at the Combine and this was
- 1:06:14Speaker 2: when Bill was still here. So Belichick never talked at
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: the Combine. So you never had any real Patriots stuff.
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: Well you know the drill now, so you never had
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: any Patriot stuff on that Tuesday.
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: Right right.
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: So I would just you know, bounce around this guy.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: Go to the Giants because Odell Beckham might get traded.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Go here because that guy might get traded. And of
- 1:06:34Speaker 2: course when Kyle Shanahan talked, you know, you know where,
- 1:06:37Speaker 2: I was front and center, and I asked him about
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: fullbacks and like his how he uses fullbacks, and this
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: guy wax poetic about Kyle used checking the full back.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: And he told me at that time that he will
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: never have a roster that doesn't feature a fullback, like
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: he will always have a fullback on his team. Period.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: So everybody in Francisco forty nine at rob uotss coming, everybody.
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: Thinks Kyle used Check is probably the best fullback in football,
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: maybe in the history of football. And and you're telling
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: me that Kyle Shanahan is cutting that player like that.
- 1:07:11Speaker 2: That speaks to me then tells me that he might
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: be he might be cooked, he might be washed.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: So is Deebo cooked? Then can we say that?
- 1:07:18Speaker 2: I think that's a little because I took him for
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: saying that, is it. Kyle Shanahan's giving up on him?
- 1:07:21Speaker 2: Apparently this is the rule's moving on from players they're
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: cold back like that. That's different.
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: I I think you just got to take corner and
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: saying no.
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: It's different. It's a different. It's not different, it's different.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: I don't understand how. So Deebo Samuel might be washed.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: That's all right? So well I got yelled at for
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: saying that. So this is what can we say Deebo's
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: watch Then if we're saying that, this means Kyle used
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: Check is washed.
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: Before we go back to the funds, I want to
- 1:07:46Speaker 2: go back to those needs that we talked about to
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: start throwing some names out there. Well, let's start with
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: wide receiver. I think we have to talk about the
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: Cooper Cup of it all. Uh Cup check if you will?
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: How long even hold on an that one?
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: I thought of that one last night. I think we
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: have to we talk talk about it if we're honest
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: about the type of player that Cooper Cup is now.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: And if you look at his advanced metrics, you know, separation,
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: yards after the catch, contested catchability, it is a precipitous
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: drop year after year from twenty twenty one his nineteen
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: hundred yards season. Right, yeah, we're from twenty twenty one.
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: Each year gets progressively worse in terms of the analytics
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: of it all is getting older. So you look at
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: all that and you look at a team like the Rams,
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: who won no offense better than maybe anybody, and maybe
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: the brightest offensive mine in the league running the team
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: in Sean McVay and two are one of the most
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: analytically driven organizations in the league. They are telling you
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: that Cooper Cup can't run anymore, is what I'm worried about.
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: Their metrics, their their science is telling you that he
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: has no more burst, or he doesn't have the same burst. Right,
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: that would be concerning to me, all these things are
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: concerning to me. With that being said, I'm coming around
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: to the idea of whether it's Cooper Cup, it's Stefan Diggs,
- 1:09:20Speaker 2: it's Amari Cooper, one of these aging star receivers for
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: a team like the Patriots that keeps striking out at
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: this position, you know, Godwin metcalf A, Yuke Ridley, Like
- 1:09:35Speaker 2: Dyuke's out there again. Apparently they might need to take
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: a chance on one of these guys, is my point.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: And I think the hope would be that he is
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: able to still be like a wide receiver too on
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: a depth chart. Yeah, and then maybe in the draft,
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: and this is kind of my other big take about
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: wide receiver, maybe in the draft you go out and
- 1:09:54Speaker 2: get the guy, you know, the true number one receiver.
- 1:09:57Speaker 2: But at this stage of his career, can Cooper Cup
- 1:10:01Speaker 2: be the number two guy? Like? Can he be a
- 1:10:04Speaker 2: number two guy? I'm willing to take that chance if
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: the money is right. And I would also mention that
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: I think he's a really good fit in the slot
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: for Josh McDaniels. I think that he understands space and
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: he understands how to find soft spots and zones. I
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: think he understands how to run option routes. Certainly understands
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: how to run option routes. That's all he ran for
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: Sean McVay, you know, or those choice routes in their offense.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: So he understands and has a great feel for the
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: middle of the field. Like I do think stylistically he's
- 1:10:36Speaker 2: a nice fit with McDaniels, Like if Godwin was like
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: the apex of this player that might be available, it
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: would make sense for them to pivot stylistically to Cooper
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: Cup And Okay, now you don't necessarily need to have
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: him via trade, right, you can just get him if
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: he's released at four o'clock. So I'm coming around to
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: the idea of just taking a flyer on one of
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: these guys and hoping that the fountain of youth, you know, delivers,
- 1:10:58Speaker 2: you know, for a year or two.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: Yes, you know. I at this point, I'm kind of like,
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: all right, well, you choose between the age with Cup.
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: I'm done, I'm out of the Mari Cooper. I don't
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: think Mark Coop is gonna give you anything. Yeah, you're
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: choosing between the age with Cup and the injury concerned
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: with Stefan Diggs. I think those are your two options.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: I am very much on the record. Just be nervous
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: about wide receivers coming off injury. I said about Godwin,
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: I said about Ayuk. Everybody knows how much I like Diggs,
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: how great of a player I think he is. I
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: think the character stuff's overblown. I mean, he was named
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: a captain last year in his first year in Houston. Like, yeah,
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: he's a littles center, Show me good receiver. That isn't right.
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: The guy clearly locked in when because the way then
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: the buffalo? But was that his fault? Or is everybody's
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: golden boy? Maybe not his gold and his play? Did
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: joel and beat m VP?
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: He I I don't know this.
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: This isn't necessarily me saying sign Stefan Diggs because it's
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: coming off the torn a cl When will he be ready?
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: You've seen them try to do this with guys before.
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: But if it comes down to Diggs or Cup, I
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: think he can make as strong a case for either.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I don't know that I would say I would consider
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: Diggs as strongly I was as I would consider Cup.
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: But I don't know that. I'm I feel strongly one
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: way or the other. Like I wouldn't hate seeing them
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: at one of those guys at this point what things
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: have come to. But I don't know. You want to
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: tell me that a cut makes sense because he fits
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: more in the offense and he's at least healthy or
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: healthier and fine, you want to tell me Diggs is
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: the answer because he's more of what they need in
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: theory when he's healthy, and he has more upside as
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: that number one guy and he's not quite as old.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: I could buy that argument too. I don't know I
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: could go either way on either one of them, but
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: I would consider them both equally.
- 1:12:43Speaker 2: Stefan Diggs was better last year, no doubt about it.
- 1:12:46Speaker 2: Like Stefan Diggs was still a top fifteen receiver in
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: the league when he was healthy last year, so he
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: certainly has a much higher ceiling. Like Stefan Diggs, you
- 1:12:55Speaker 2: could sign him and if he somehow bounces back with
- 1:12:58Speaker 2: no setbacks or anything like that from the ACL, he's
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: a number one receiver. Cooper Cup isn't at anymore. I
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: think the biggest thing that you see with Cooper Cup
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: on tape is he used to be a demon after
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: the catch, right Like he would catch the ball and
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: he'd be shot out of the cannon. He run those
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: like five to six yard option routes, you know, those
- 1:13:16Speaker 2: juke routes as wiggle routes over the middle, and he
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: would catch it and he would just be out of
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: the of the of the gates. He's not he doesn't
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: have that kind of juice anymore. So now on third
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: and three, when he catches that option rout over the middle,
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: he might get you four yards, yeah, but he's not
- 1:13:33Speaker 2: getting you fourteen, whereas in twenty twenty one he was
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: getting you fourteen twenty twenty twenty five yards after the catch,
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: and that was you know why he had such a
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: great season. But he's not that player anymore. He can
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: still move the chains, he's just not going to run
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: by anybody or run through anybody. Stefan des can still
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: be a number one receiver just because he's healthier and
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: you're not worried about the whole ACL recovery and all that.
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: I'd probably lean towards Scooper Cup just a little bit,
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: but I hear I I wouldn't I opposed to either.
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: At this point, you're kind of crossing your fingers and
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: hoping either way, right.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: Yeah, So but I think they're in a position where
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: they need to cross their fingers and hope, So why
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: not get the guy that may be hopeful a little
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: bit more just because I think he's gonna be available
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: to start the season. Like, I think that's big.
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: And also, so here's the flip side of it. I
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: think you could argue that we broke this down before
- 1:14:25Speaker 1: and we were talking about mac Hollins, like you're gonna
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: have this roster crunch. Yeah, this is sort of what
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: they did with Kendrick Borne last year. Well, now you
- 1:14:32Speaker 1: kind of save a roster spot. You see in September,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: who's who works in this new system from the young
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: guys who doesn't, and then Diggs comes in once you
- 1:14:40Speaker 1: kind of have that all figured out, like you're not
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: losing that much. So Diggs got hurt in October, right Halloween? Yeah,
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: so he again is the same time Kendrick Bourne did. Right,
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: So kenn Bourne came back and what he's a player.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: Like he's not gonna So that means no off season program,
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: no training camp, no preseason.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: That's true.
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: Like you you start to build these things up, like
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: when's the first time that Stefan Diggs is gonna catch
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: passes from Drake may like it will be Halloween weekend
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: twenty twenty five right when he's back on the field.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: So I just look at Cooper Cup and I think
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: healthier to start the season would help because now he's
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: in the room. Now he's doing all the intangible stuff
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: that I think people are doing that.
- 1:15:21Speaker 1: Even for you are I'll say with Cup two last
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: three years, nine games, twelve games games, No, he's been
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: banged up. That's a guy you worry about being her production.
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: Is in his in his advanced metrics have catered like
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: or cretered. Excuse me, like he's not He's not the
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: guy he was anymore. He's not.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: I know. It's you're making valid points.
- 1:15:39Speaker 2: Again.
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: I don't I wouldn't hate if they added one of them.
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: I don't know that I'm gonna if they signed one
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: of them, I would say that I should have had
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: the other. Right, I think you can make a case
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: for both of them. It's just sort of what you're
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: looking for, what you value in that signing.
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: All I'm making the case for because I agree with
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: that last point that you just made. All I'm making
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: the case for is that a team like the Patriots
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: has to take a fire on one of these guys.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: That's all I'm making the case for. Take a fire
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: on one of them. At best, maybe you strike gold
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: and Steffan Diggs ends up going back to Buffalo. Stefan Diggs,
- 1:16:11Speaker 2: it is a great player for you. At worst, you
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: have a veteran adult in the room, been there, done
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: it at a high level who can maybe be like
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: a wide receiver two for a year or two and
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: teach some of the young guys and bring them along.
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: Can you have a receiver in the draft that your
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: comp was Diggs?
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: Yeah, Mark Matthew Golden.
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: Yeah, draft Matthew Golden, So Digs he can teach them.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: So here's my other takeout wide receiver. I am coming
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: more and more to the to terms the wrong word,
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: but like around to considering a offensive skill player at
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: four overall on this drift because two things. One, I
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: can't get that quote from Vrabel out of my head
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: from the combine when we had the Yeah press conference
- 1:17:02Speaker 2: scrum and he mentioned that like a lot of the
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: time at that position, you have to draft your own Yep.
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: I can't get that out of my head. Like he's right,
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: you know, they're not going to have somebody gift them
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: a wide receiver one right, I hate that term. But
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: they're not gonna a top wide receiver, right, They're not
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: gonna gift him to you, Okay. And those guys don't
- 1:17:24Speaker 2: want to come here, like you can't get them to
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: come here. I don't know what the exact number was,
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: but they tried to aggressively pursue Gris God would and
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: pry him out of Tampa, and he took less money
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: to not come here, significantly less. Dk Metcalf I don't
- 1:17:39Speaker 2: think was ever seriously considering a trade to the Patriot.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: Sounds like they weren't considering it either.
- 1:17:43Speaker 2: But I don't think that that was I don't think
- 1:17:45Speaker 2: he was taking your money. Brandon Ayuk wouldn't take your money.
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: Calvin Ridley wouldn't take your money last year. So all
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: these players are telling you it's just not a desirable
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: enough situation yet to land in New England. It just
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: isn't so what I would consider at four overall. If
- 1:18:04Speaker 2: it has to be four overall, we're talking Ted McMillan,
- 1:18:08Speaker 2: we're talking Tyler Warren. I don't think we're talking Matthew
- 1:18:12Speaker 2: Golden like I think that's really rich for Matthew Golden,
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: but he's getting a lot of you know, top receiver
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: in this class wide receiver.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Cling for Golden. Let's say you can trade down, you
- 1:18:22Speaker 1: trade down to ten. You're taking Golden at ten?
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: I might. Yeah, So I think we're talking those guys.
- 1:18:27Speaker 2: And because they made me yesterday, I'll put gent in
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: there too, like you do have to.
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and you can put them at the bottom of list.
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: How about this one though, Let's say they don't sign
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: the left tackle. Let's say they don't sign Cam Robinson,
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: and I don't feel great about, you know, any of
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: the other guys that are out there being a definitive answer.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: Maybe they're competing with Darien Lowe and they win the job,
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: but they're not a definitive answer. After all of this, Yes,
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: after this, this whole freaking cycle, and I'm going back
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: to August when we were doing shows in that other
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: room when they were building the studio, right, Yeah, after
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: all this, is there a chance we come back around
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: to the conversation turning into Will Campbell versus Tat McMillan.
- 1:19:11Speaker 2: I really am after all of this.
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: That was the two guys we said, it's either gonna
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: be the top left tackle in the draft, or the
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: top wide receiver in the draft. Those two were in.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: This is assuming Carter and Hunter off the board. Those
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: were the two guys we were looking at at the
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: top of those respective positions. There's been some reporting that
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: the Patriots may still see Campbell as a tackle. To
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: your point, Mike Rabel said that thing about the wide receiver.
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: If McMillan's at the top of their board. We went
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: through Abdol Carter, we went through Travis Hunter, We went
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: through this weird phase where they were definitely trading down.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: Then it was you know, well.
- 1:19:43Speaker 2: Maybe this or maybe that six weeks ago. I mean,
- 1:19:46Speaker 2: we're gonna go through.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: No, but I'm saying, is there a chance that by
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: the end of this, because we're gonna do Ted McMillan
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: and Matthew Golden and Tyler Warren and Ashton Genty right now,
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: by the end of this, do we end up back
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: where we started at August, where it's Will Campbell, Ted McMillan,
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: who's your guy? And that's the conversation.
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: I feel like this happens every year. I mean, maybe
- 1:20:08Speaker 2: we're not. When they were picking lower we could really know,
- 1:20:10Speaker 2: but like we did this last year, Like we all
- 1:20:14Speaker 2: came out of the gate and said quarterback, quarterback, quarterback,
- 1:20:17Speaker 2: and then you know, everybody started to talk themselves out
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: of the quarterbacks and then.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: Not all of us, not all of us. But I'm
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: just saying this was a pretty consensus around them.
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: You know, consensus for the most part too. Like, obviously
- 1:20:32Speaker 2: Travis Hunter would be the dream in this scenario that
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: I'm I'm picturing right now as as your top wide receiver.
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: But like when you look at that group, I think
- 1:20:42Speaker 2: it's it's a real strong consideration. You're not going to
- 1:20:46Speaker 2: get Abdul Carter, right, I think that's a that's an
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: absolute pipe dream.
- 1:20:52Speaker 1: There.
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: There's not a Joe Alt tackle in this draft. You know,
- 1:20:56Speaker 2: Will Campbell at four to be an absolutely gigantic arm
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: length wingspan outlier. Yeah, is a risky proposition. And my
- 1:21:08Speaker 2: point being with like, let's just say it's Tech McMillan,
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: because I think he's probably the best player out out
- 1:21:15Speaker 2: of this group to fit this this argument besides Travis Hunter.
- 1:21:18Speaker 2: With Tep McMillan. Okay, so let's say Tep McMillan is
- 1:21:24Speaker 2: really only should really be cast as as a second
- 1:21:27Speaker 2: wide receiver right, like he's.
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: Just let's say he's Drake London. We'll go back to sure.
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: Liket's say he's Drake London. Is say it's T Higgins,
- 1:21:33Speaker 2: like he's a he's a wide receiver too. Really, well,
- 1:21:37Speaker 2: if you're that much better in twenty five and he's
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: a really good player in twenty five, now in twenty six,
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: like you might be able to get DK Metcalf, you
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: might be able to get that true number one.
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: The Bengals got Higgins before they got chased, right, Yeah,
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: to have that timeline right right, that's a ssue what
- 1:21:55Speaker 1: you're saying.
- 1:21:55Speaker 2: Great point, right, like maybe your order operations isn't perfect,
- 1:22:00Speaker 2: but you just put a good enough product, Like you
- 1:22:03Speaker 2: get to that floor where you put a good enough
- 1:22:05Speaker 2: product on the field. Next year, Drake may takes those
- 1:22:09Speaker 2: next steps where now all of a sudden, in twenty
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: twenty six, you are a wide receiver destination and also.
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: What looks like a mutt in long way out but
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: what looks like a much better wide receiver track.
- 1:22:19Speaker 2: Sure, or you know someone comes free and via trade
- 1:22:23Speaker 2: again or or free agency again, probably trade and now
- 1:22:26Speaker 2: that player wants to come here, So I don't necessarily
- 1:22:30Speaker 2: even need Ted McMillan to be the answer to all
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: the problems. He might just be a step towards the end.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: But are you okay taking that guy at four? I
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: think there'd be people saying, well, if you take the
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: guy at four, he should be the guy at the
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: top the depth truck.
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: But he still has a chance to be that. I
- 1:22:44Speaker 2: still think he has a ceiling that could be that.
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: But my point being is that it's not this end
- 1:22:49Speaker 2: of the world scenario if he's not that, Like, if
- 1:22:52Speaker 2: he's not that, then at least you still have a
- 1:22:54Speaker 2: really good high end wide receiver too, And in twenty
- 1:22:58Speaker 2: twenty six you go for the big fit should get Like,
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: what's so wrong with that scenario? Like why is that
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: such a bad?
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: Hell? I don't hate that.
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: And the last thing I would just say about it
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: at the top of the draft is that I don't
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: see a lot of separation between these players, Like if
- 1:23:14Speaker 2: you throw Teed McMillan, Mason Graham, Will Campbell, mikel Williams,
- 1:23:19Speaker 2: Jalon Walker, Tyler Warren, like, I don't see the talent
- 1:23:24Speaker 2: level being all that different across these players. And I
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: keep saying the same thing, like this is gonna be
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: as much about fit for each individual team as it's
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: gonna be best player available. It's so easy to sit
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: here and just say, just draft the best player on
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: your board. This year's there's not gonna be a lot
- 1:23:41Speaker 2: of separation between these guys. There's not gonna be that. Okay,
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: you know, this guy's a blue chip prospect and this
- 1:23:49Speaker 2: guy isn't. Like that doesn't exist in this draft. Pass
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter. So if I can easily
- 1:23:55Speaker 2: tell you that Travis or that Teed McMillan is going
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: to be as good of a player as Mason, like,
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: I think that that's an easy thing to pitch. So
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: I'm coming around to that because of what Rabel said
- 1:24:06Speaker 2: at the combine. I'm coming around to it because it
- 1:24:08Speaker 2: just what's the best pick for the football team might
- 1:24:12Speaker 2: be that, And just to finish that take, when we
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: get into the left tackle conversation, I don't hate the
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: idea of trading back up into the back end of
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: the first round to get the next wave of tackles, right,
- 1:24:24Speaker 2: Get Josh Connerly, get a Josh Simmons. Maybe at that point,
- 1:24:28Speaker 2: if you sign somebody in free agency like Cam Robinson
- 1:24:31Speaker 2: on a bridge contract that could make some sense. Arianti Ursery, right,
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: might start to make sense now at the top of
- 1:24:37Speaker 2: the second or late first, like, there are options like
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: that in this draft in that twenty to forty range
- 1:24:45Speaker 2: that you can still come out of the draft with
- 1:24:47Speaker 2: a guy that can play the left side, that has
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: the upside to be a starting caliber left tackle. So
- 1:24:53Speaker 2: it's not like you're completely missing out on the tackle either,
- 1:24:56Speaker 2: Like would you In my mind, I'm just getting to
- 1:24:58Speaker 2: the point now where you know, I've kind of written
- 1:25:01Speaker 2: off Will Campbell as a guard, Like, I don't think
- 1:25:03Speaker 2: that it's a.
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: Why huge choice they have. That was more the point
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: I was making with the full circle regardless of what
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: we maybe, do you think they've written him off?
- 1:25:13Speaker 2: Yes, I go inside information, Yeah, I just I don't
- 1:25:19Speaker 2: necessarily think that they would take a complete outlier at
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: four overall, right now, I don't think this regime has
- 1:25:25Speaker 2: enough built up like Cachet to take that kind of
- 1:25:29Speaker 2: pick and have him turn out to be a guard,
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: right and have it turned out to work that out
- 1:25:34Speaker 2: that way for them. So would you rather, and this
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: is the draft, would you rather? Tet McMillan, and let's
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: just call it because I think it's the most realistic
- 1:25:43Speaker 2: in terms of not trading all around the board Tech
- 1:25:46Speaker 2: McMillan and Arianta Ursery or Will Campbell and insert you
- 1:25:52Speaker 2: know day two wide receiver here, Jayden Higgins.
- 1:25:55Speaker 1: Jaden Higgins. Sure, probably McMillan a Nursery.
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: That's just the way I'm leaning right now, because I
- 1:26:03Speaker 2: at least I know those two guys are built to
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: play the positions we're going to try to play a
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: man right like you and you're not trying to put
- 1:26:11Speaker 2: a guard at tackle or you know, a right tackle
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: at left tackle or a left tackle at right tackle
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: like everybody ten. McMillan's an x arionte Ersery is a
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: left tackle, yes, and we're not messing around, and neither
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: of them are.
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: Hurt, and neither of them are like they're just they're
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: ready to go. Yeah, high floor picks. That's essentially what
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: you're campaigning for here, high floor picks. Yeah, all right,
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: and then well, Ursery is the ceiling guy. I don't
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: want to put Ursery in that like he's not a
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: floor guy, but in the way you're phrasing it, yeah,
- 1:26:38Speaker 1: I think that's kind of what they need, right now right,
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: there a third one in there for you. Sure, there's
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: a little more maneuvering on the board, but this is
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: like the trade down trade up thing. Yeah, Matthew Golden,
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: Josh Simmons, Yeah, yeah, and I I know, but I'm
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: saying like that or McMillan a nursery.
- 1:26:54Speaker 2: So here's my my other part of this take, right,
- 1:26:58Speaker 2: I'm also coming around to Obviously, Cam Robinson is not
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: having the market Cam Robinson was expecting to have. If
- 1:27:05Speaker 2: there was an offer out there for Cam Robinson for
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: three for sixty, he would be signed already right like that,
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: that would be done. So his market is maybe lukewarm.
- 1:27:16Speaker 2: And I know that there's been some reporting. I think
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: Breer added that there's some concern about motivation and just
- 1:27:21Speaker 2: effort and all those kinds of things with Cam Robinson.
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: So is it and I'm just kind of facilitating here,
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: is it a good scenario for the Patriots too? Maybe
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: you signed Cam robinsonto a one year deal that is
- 1:27:37Speaker 2: basically the deal that the Jets gave Tyron Smith last year.
- 1:27:41Speaker 2: It's one for like fifteen.
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: Issues significant money, but just for one year.
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: And it's incentive laden. And at that point you at
- 1:27:49Speaker 2: least again have a player on the roster that has
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: played left tackle in the NFL at a starting caliber level.
- 1:27:55Speaker 2: And now you can draft Josh Simmons, where now you
- 1:27:58Speaker 2: can draft the high ups.
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: You have to get Robinson to take the contract.
- 1:28:03Speaker 2: But yeah, but I'm just saying that now that it.
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: Would open that up a little bit.
- 1:28:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: Like I know, I've been very anti them drafting Josh Simmons.
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: If he's not the first player they take and they
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: get a guy like Cam Robinson on the roster, I
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: don't know that it would be my favorite pick, But
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: it makes a lot more sense now.
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: That that's another logical scenario for them. Yeah, because right
- 1:28:24Speaker 2: now the lev tackles in free agency, it's Cam Robinson.
- 1:28:28Speaker 1: It's right, Like I know so many people like Jedrick Wills.
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: Just the way it ended last year in Cleveland, I'm
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: not sure that's the kind of guy they're looking to add. Now,
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: maybe you could say Robinson isn't neither, but Robinson's a
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: much more proven player, right.
- 1:28:41Speaker 2: So I think it's Robinson or busting free agency. If
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: I'm going to invest in Robinson again, I'm thinking of
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: one year deal, high money, high guarantee. It resets his value.
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: It gives the Patriots a safety net if their draft
- 1:28:57Speaker 2: pick doesn't work out.
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: But you also have a draft you also want to
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: have a draft pick in the building to push him
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: one hundred.
- 1:29:03Speaker 2: Like, yeah, you still absolutely need to draft to a
- 1:29:05Speaker 2: left tackle in the top fifty. Like there's guy's not debatable.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: Yeah, top one hundred. I'd call it top one, top fifty.
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: If you get like Anthony Belton, that's seventy seven. I
- 1:29:13Speaker 1: think that.
- 1:29:14Speaker 2: Nope, no, higher disagree then Connerley Ursery, Josh Simmons, one
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: of those guys has to be on this roster.
- 1:29:21Speaker 1: Just the scenario, Well, we're kind of updating takes post
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: for agency, and we're on tackles. Membo, we're done with
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: for the Patriots, We're done with arm On Membo. I think, so,
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: I agree with you. He's a right tackle. He's a
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: good right tackle. Yeah, but he's a right tackle.
- 1:29:33Speaker 2: I don't know that.
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: And yeah, it's probably only one year for Morgan Moses.
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: I'm not using a top ten pick to get a
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: future right tackle.
- 1:29:42Speaker 2: Like no, And I'm not out on like Ozzy Traprilo.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: Sure, yeah, no.
- 1:29:46Speaker 2: If you want to get the next guy right, you draft,
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: even the third round and he's the next guy.
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: We don't want to do that afore right. Yeah.
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: I we'll see where Covin Banks ends up. Yeah, I
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: think he's at Covin Banks is going to settle at
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: a top twenty pick. Like, I don't think that he's
- 1:30:01Speaker 2: gonna have this fall that some people think that he's
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: gonna have. But we'll see where he ends up. You know,
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: is there a chance that he I think Amarius Mims
- 1:30:08Speaker 2: went twenty last year exactly, Like if he's at twenty, Like,
- 1:30:11Speaker 2: can you make that trade? It's eighteen spots, it's a
- 1:30:13Speaker 2: big trade, but can you make it happen? Right? And
- 1:30:16Speaker 2: maybe you actually get Banks.
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: I mean that's probably close to that's pretty close to
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: the trade when they moved back and got Dugger, Yeah,
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: which was twenty three for I think thirty six and
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: seventy one. Yeah, so you throw in like a future
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: day three pick. Maybe he gets it done. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: that would make it. And you're talking about Banks as
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: a left.
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: Tackle, correct, Yeah, yeah, that could work right, So you know,
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: you trade back up into the twenties and you kind
- 1:30:45Speaker 2: of put yourself on the board for Banks, potentially Connorly Simmons,
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: like all those guys at the back end of the
- 1:30:54Speaker 2: first round, I think that that's a viable option as well.
- 1:30:58Speaker 2: So that's left tackle, wide and wide receiver when it
- 1:31:02Speaker 2: comes to edge. I mean we've kicked some names around already.
- 1:31:05Speaker 2: I still think that you need you need somebody kind
- 1:31:09Speaker 2: of a similarly, you know, talking about safety nets like
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: I don't know if Harold Landry has the juice anymore
- 1:31:14Speaker 2: to be a really good, you know, third down pass
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: rusher like I does. The metrics aren't good. They're not
- 1:31:21Speaker 2: friendly to him right now in terms of that, So
- 1:31:23Speaker 2: maybe he's not that guy anymore. So you might actually
- 1:31:26Speaker 2: have to be taking some of these guys off the field,
- 1:31:29Speaker 2: like you might still be a little bit situational with
- 1:31:31Speaker 2: your rushers, So you need another really good pass rusher
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: off the edge. We mentioned free safety, so we kind
- 1:31:38Speaker 2: of threw out names already for those two positions into
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: your offensive line. Still a big need to me, I
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: am not counting on Robinson so and Strange Nope or better,
- 1:31:51Speaker 2: they can compete. I mean, I think they're good, and
- 1:31:54Speaker 2: I think at least like Ben Brown, he's your backup center.
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: That's a pretty good situation. But I'm not having those
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: eyes and starting roles without competition, No like it.
- 1:32:02Speaker 2: Right now, if they had to play a game tomorrow,
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: they still have a Darian little left tackle, which is
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: not well.
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: They don't have play game tomorrow, thankfully.
- 1:32:09Speaker 2: Right but just to play out the exercise, they still
- 1:32:11Speaker 2: have a Darian little left tackle, which is not okay
- 1:32:13Speaker 2: with me like that, that can't be it. And at
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: left guard they're still at you know, Leyden Robinson, Cole
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: Strange City, so competing. I would just like to see
- 1:32:22Speaker 2: the mat A veteran body there, you know, Josh Myers
- 1:32:25Speaker 2: is a center up pure center from Green Bay. He's
- 1:32:28Speaker 2: out there still. I watched a little bit of Tevin
- 1:32:30Speaker 2: Jenkins yesterday. I didn't think he moved very well last year.
- 1:32:33Speaker 2: Looks injured. I don't know. There's potentially chronic back issues
- 1:32:36Speaker 2: there with Tevin Jenkins, which would worry me right in
- 1:32:39Speaker 2: terms of his mobility. Uh so that would be maybe
- 1:32:42Speaker 2: a little bit concerning. And then a lot of the
- 1:32:43Speaker 2: other guys are are our right guards by trade, you know,
- 1:32:47Speaker 2: Kevin Zeitler's of the world, like those guys all are
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: right guards. But I still think that there's there's another
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: option there. Maybe it's a true center. Maybe it's it's
- 1:32:58Speaker 2: Jenkins to play the left guard spot. Uh. The one
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: that I would really now strongly consider is McKai Becton.
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: You know, I think that side.
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the guy Becton at left guard would
- 1:33:10Speaker 2: be perfectly fine. I really like the idea becked that
- 1:33:14Speaker 2: he might make a little bit too much money for
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: what they're willing to spend there. Uh, but I think
- 1:33:18Speaker 2: that McKay Beckton is what exactly what I'm looking for, right, Like,
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: you know, you've said it now, like you're that he's
- 1:33:23Speaker 2: your left guard going into next season. So those are
- 1:33:26Speaker 2: the spots or anybody else that that I didn't mention
- 1:33:28Speaker 2: that are worth mentioning before we go back? Agen, Yeah,
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: that's available. Any nobody else that stands out to you?
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: I think that's it all right.

- 1:35:12Speaker 2: is in Providence. What's up, Brandy?
- 1:35:15Speaker 7: Hey? So, a couple of names I was thinking about
- 1:35:19Speaker 7: in the draft after a free agency late like day two,
- 1:35:24Speaker 7: maybe early day three, like aneas People's ty Robinson, Omar
- 1:35:29Speaker 7: Norman Lock guys at interior pass rushers, to like kind
- 1:35:32Speaker 7: of build up that spot in case Barmore doesn't come back.
- 1:35:36Speaker 7: Also Ola Daho, who is a great run stopper on
- 1:35:38Speaker 7: the edge. I also wanted to say Jaden Higgins in
- 1:35:42Speaker 7: the second round, right you said? Mike Brabel said you
- 1:35:45Speaker 7: need to draft those guys. He drafted aj Brown in
- 1:35:47Speaker 7: the second round. He didn't take him top five. I
- 1:35:50Speaker 7: think Ted McMillan's vastly overrated. But I also wanted to
- 1:35:53Speaker 7: ask you guys, because you guys were at the Senior Bowl,
- 1:35:56Speaker 7: right both of you.
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: Evan was yep.
- 1:35:59Speaker 7: Okay, So I had heard a report. I don't remember
- 1:36:02Speaker 7: exactly where it was, but I heard somebody that was
- 1:36:04Speaker 7: there saying like it was kind of like a worst
- 1:36:07Speaker 7: kept secret sort of thing that Mike Rabel and staff
- 1:36:10Speaker 7: were absolutely in love with Will Campbell. Like thought he
- 1:36:13Speaker 7: was the best player in the draft, would take him
- 1:36:15Speaker 7: number one to play left tackle, didn't care about his
- 1:36:18Speaker 7: arm length, et cetera, et cetera. Mike Rabel, Now, I
- 1:36:21Speaker 7: haven't met the man. I'm not friends with the man,
- 1:36:23Speaker 7: but he just everything that I see he does in
- 1:36:27Speaker 7: terms of hiring, in terms of what I've heard reported
- 1:36:30Speaker 7: about him, is that, you know, he's kind of a
- 1:36:32Speaker 7: very loyal and maybe sometimes a little stubborn guy. And
- 1:36:37Speaker 7: I just wouldn't be surprised and maybe that was the
- 1:36:40Speaker 7: plan given everything that they haven't done at left tackle
- 1:36:44Speaker 7: and free agency you got did you hear that at
- 1:36:48Speaker 7: all at senior ball? Did you get that impression? Do
- 1:36:50Speaker 7: you think that could be the plan? And then what
- 1:36:54Speaker 7: do you think about Jaden Higgins in the second round,
- 1:36:55Speaker 7: because I think he's the best wide receiver prospect in
- 1:36:57Speaker 7: this draft personally, he's got better physical tooln't a comparable
- 1:37:02Speaker 7: production in a comparable situation.
- 1:37:05Speaker 2: Thanks for the call, Randy appreciated. I didn't hear any
- 1:37:08Speaker 2: anything that definitive on Will Campbell. There's been a lot
- 1:37:11Speaker 2: of reporting that the Patriots weren't overly caught up in
- 1:37:16Speaker 2: the arm length stuff, right, Like I we have heard
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: that from multiple outlets.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: I'm right or wrong. I still think that there's maybe
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: a chance that they view Will Camberl in certain situations
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: as a tackle. I'm not totally writing that off.
- 1:37:30Speaker 2: No, I'm not totally writing it off. I don't think
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: that they're that they were that set in anything.
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: Maybe maybe that strong, especially like.
- 1:37:40Speaker 2: To have that early, to have it that set in
- 1:37:43Speaker 2: January is pretty unrealistic to me, especially if they have
- 1:37:47Speaker 2: been on the job for like a couple of weeks
- 1:37:49Speaker 2: at that point. Like, I just can't imagine that they
- 1:37:52Speaker 2: have had enough intel to be that dead set on
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: anybody in this draft. Now that being said, I would
- 1:37:58Speaker 2: be absolutely floored if they had Will Campbell rated higher
- 1:38:01Speaker 2: than Travis Hunter like they have been. There's been reports.
- 1:38:07Speaker 2: We had Elliott Wolf on our draft podcast at the
- 1:38:11Speaker 2: Combine really excited about Travis Hunter. Like, I would be
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: absolutely shocked if they think that Travis that Will Campbell
- 1:38:18Speaker 2: is a better prospect than Travis Hunter, just from everything
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: that we've heard.
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: Yeah, But all I'm saying is I'm not closing the
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: door on the idea that they view Will Campbell as
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: a tackle.
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: No, I'm not closing any doors to his point about
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: Jaden Higgins. I'm a big Jaden Niggins fan. I think
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: he plays slower than he tested. I don't think he
- 1:38:39Speaker 2: necessarily runs as well as I like that forty booty away.
- 1:38:43Speaker 2: I thought he was going to be mid four five's.
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: He was four four seven. I did not expect that
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: kind of speed out of him. He doesn't play to
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: that speed on tape. I'm usually a guy that is
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: a tape over combine forty time type of guy, like
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: I try to trust it and trust my eye in
- 1:39:00Speaker 2: that sense. When I watched Jaden Higgins on tape, I
- 1:39:03Speaker 2: thought more crafty than athlete. You know, explosiveness his combine
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: blew me away. I mean he was a great athlete
- 1:39:11Speaker 2: in terms of the testing. Yeah, and all walks, you know, agility.
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: I don't know if he did those, but explosiveness forty
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: times size like had it all. He to me is
- 1:39:23Speaker 2: more you know the guy that I would comp Jaden
- 1:39:25Speaker 2: Higgins too, is like a Michael Pittman in HINDI, where
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: like he's big bodied so he can win some of
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: those jump balls down the field. But he's really a
- 1:39:33Speaker 2: possession receiver. He's really a first and second level receiver.
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: I'm okay, like I like Jaden Higgins. I'm not saying
- 1:39:41Speaker 2: that I think he's a bad prospect. I actually one
- 1:39:44Speaker 2: thing that Randy said that he thought that Teed McMillan
- 1:39:47Speaker 2: is very overrated. I think we've gone too far in
- 1:39:50Speaker 2: that direction with Tet McMillan. Yeah, I think we have
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: now underrated Teed McMillan because everybody is saying that he
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: was overrated to begin with. I've said time and time
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: again that he isn't a Marvin Harrison Molik Neighbors Roma
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: Dunees a level prospect. He never was and he never
- 1:40:07Speaker 2: is going to be. I would probably have him in
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: that conversation in that next wave of last year's class
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: with like Brian Thomas Junior and Xavier Worthy and those
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: types of players. He's not Marvin Harrison Junior. He's not
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: Leak Neighbors. But now I feel like we've gone the
- 1:40:23Speaker 2: other direction where like he's he's stiff, and you know,
- 1:40:27Speaker 2: Jayden Higgins, who's gonna go on day two and Ted's
- 1:40:29Speaker 2: gonna go day one, is actually a better player, like,
- 1:40:31Speaker 2: I think that's we're getting a little crazy.
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: Yeah, No, I'm with you. He's still a good player.
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: He's just not We've had how many years of these
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: generational wide receiver generational I should say in air quotes
- 1:40:41Speaker 1: wide receiver prospects. If they're coming every year, they're not generational.
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: And now this year he's just not quite that guy.
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: Sobody thinks he sucks.
- 1:40:49Speaker 2: You have to be realistic about what you're getting. You're
- 1:40:51Speaker 2: not getting a field stretcher. You're getting a guy that's
- 1:40:53Speaker 2: gonna win with size and fluidity and and you know,
- 1:40:57Speaker 2: snappy at the top of the route at the first
- 1:41:00Speaker 2: and second level.
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: He's he's not He's not Harry Like. I think that's
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: what so many people are.
- 1:41:05Speaker 2: Definitely a different player.
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: Let me ask you this, this is a weird question.
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: If what is the comp for Teed McMillan if he's
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: a bust right, because it's not if he busts, he's
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: not gonna bust in the way Nikill Hary did.
- 1:41:19Speaker 2: Yeah, you understand what I'm saying.
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: Yeah, So, like what is maybe to get people to
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: understand this a little more like right ceiling middle floor comps? Right?
- 1:41:30Speaker 2: Yeah, So.
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: I don't. Drake London is not t Higgins is probably
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: the ceiling comp.
- 1:41:35Speaker 2: Right, yeah, yeah, yeah, I mean Drake lenn had a
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: great year last.
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: Drake London is the mid, he's middle to high middle.
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: Who is the basement bust comp for tech McMillan. I
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: don't think it's Nakhill Harry.
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: I have to think about that. I don't know, Like
- 1:41:48Speaker 2: I don't have a great one off the top of
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: my head. You know, big body receiver that just can't
- 1:41:53Speaker 2: get open would be it would be the game.
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: Well, but people would tell you that's Nakhill Harry.
- 1:41:56Speaker 2: But but Nikhil Harry was stiff, like to kill Harry
- 1:41:59Speaker 2: was robot. Nikhil Harry had too right, He's still like,
- 1:42:02Speaker 2: that's not Teed McMillan.
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: Even if you drat, even if he's a bus, he's
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: still gonna have his physical traits.
- 1:42:07Speaker 2: TEP McMillan is just not super fast. I don't know,
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: was it Quentin Johnson? No, Quentin Johnson's fast. Quentin Johnson's
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: an explosive guy. He just can't catch.
- 1:42:16Speaker 1: I'm just kind of looking back through. Oh, well, think
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: about it. I'll think about that. Bet john Dotson.
- 1:42:20Speaker 2: No, not big enough.
- 1:42:22Speaker 1: Not Cadarius Tony. I'm looking at like previous high draft
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: pick bus not Jalen Rager, Laviskas.
- 1:42:28Speaker 2: Chanal, No, Laviskas. Hlt's like Corkal pattern.
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: Oh, Chase Claypool.
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: Maybe that's not a bad one. Chase Coople was a
- 1:42:35Speaker 2: great athlete, though Chase Claypole could fly.
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: I I always thought that forty was kind of like
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: you said about Higgins, like was he really that fast?
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: He was a good athlete, had a really good rook here.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: Cory Davis.
- 1:42:50Speaker 2: Not terrible. But no, let's think about it. Let's get
- 1:42:52Speaker 2: back to the phones, and we'll think about Will Fuller. Uh,
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: Kendall's in North Carolina. What's up, Kendall?
- 1:42:59Speaker 4: Hey, what's going on?
- 1:43:02Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:43:02Speaker 6: I want to know.
- 1:43:03Speaker 4: There's two quarterbacks to go four this year? And if
- 1:43:08Speaker 4: Russell Wilson goes to the Giants, do you think they
- 1:43:12Speaker 4: have still go quarterback?
- 1:43:14Speaker 2: If Russell Wilson goes to the Giants? Uh, thanks for
- 1:43:17Speaker 2: the call, Candle. If the Giants signed Russell Wilson or
- 1:43:19Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers, I think they're out on quarterback at three.
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: If they signed Aaron Rodgers, definitely. If cam Ward gets
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: to three, does Brian Dave All look at it and say,
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: all right, I have Russ for a year or two,
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: and now I have my next guy in the pipeline
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: that wouldn't surprise me. He's he's a quarterbacks guy. And
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: Russell Wilson does see he went through that all justin
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: fields last year. Russell Wilson, I think, is the kind
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: of guy that might actually mentor the next guy. Rodgers
- 1:43:43Speaker 1: isn't doing that. Rodgers isn't gonna let you draft quarterback
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: at three. That's out the window. I could see them
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: double dipping if it's Russell Wilson.
- 1:43:49Speaker 2: I think the only reason why I why I I
- 1:43:52Speaker 2: guess they could teams like the Giants or Cleveland if
- 1:43:55Speaker 2: they signed a Wilson or Rodgers could buck trends. Is
- 1:43:58Speaker 2: because of your boy, Michael Pennock, right, like, yeah, you know,
- 1:44:01Speaker 2: the Falcons draft Michael Pennix and it ends up working out,
- 1:44:04Speaker 2: you know, maybe not the exact way that they wanted
- 1:44:06Speaker 2: it to, but it worked, but it worked because you know,
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: really all the other things with the trends, like Shaudre
- 1:44:13Speaker 2: Sanders and cam Ward are older, like they're you know,
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: they're they've been in college for a while. Shouldur obviously transferred.
- 1:44:20Speaker 2: You know, cam Ward is is another four or five
- 1:44:22Speaker 2: year starter school.
- 1:44:24Speaker 5: I know that.
- 1:44:25Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah so he they both are are twenty four.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: I want to say they're not that. Yeah, I think
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: they are now so but yeah, like the Michael Pennock
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: situation is not a bad copy.
- 1:44:35Speaker 2: Yeah yeah.
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: Cam Ward will turn twenty three in May. Okay, so
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: he's going to be twenty four, twenty three year old rookie.
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: Yeah you should just turned twenty three. Yeah, yeah, I
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: don't think was that old.
- 1:44:46Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm always that.
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: I forgot he's a Jackson State for two years.
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: Yeah, Jackson ar State.
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: So he's at Jackson State, but I thought only for
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: a year.
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: So they're older prospects. And I the only reason why
- 1:44:56Speaker 2: I bring that up because your boy Penis is kind
- 1:44:59Speaker 2: of thrown that like it doesn't matter, right.
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: Well, you got Michael Pennicks a baller, Like, let's not
- 1:45:04Speaker 1: forget that. Yeah, the guy can I take Panics over
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: ward or Sanders under.
- 1:45:09Speaker 2: But my point being with the age thing is actually
- 1:45:12Speaker 2: more that, especially in Shador's case, I think there's still
- 1:45:15Speaker 2: room to grow for cam Ward because he's toolsy enough
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: that I could see more upside there with the with
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: coaching and everything, I kind of feel like Shador is Shador,
- 1:45:24Speaker 2: Like I, he's sort of a floor quarterback to me,
- 1:45:27Speaker 2: Like I I, I don't necessarily look at Shador and
- 1:45:30Speaker 2: and see like a ton of physical upside there for
- 1:45:34Speaker 2: him as a player, Like I think that he's going
- 1:45:36Speaker 2: to be a guy that could probably start in the
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: league next year and and be a functional game management manager.
- 1:45:45Speaker 2: I think he's in that same category.
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: Yeah, just because the line was so bad at Colorado,
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: I think there's maybe some room for him to grow there.
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: But I get what you're saying, Like, I don't think
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: that Shador is going to take these massive leaps in
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: the NFL, is my point. I'm with you there.
- 1:46:00Speaker 2: So like if you're a team like the Giants or
- 1:46:02Speaker 2: the Browns and you draft Shador and now you sign
- 1:46:06Speaker 2: Aaron Rodgers, so at least for a year, you're gonna
- 1:46:08Speaker 2: sit a door on the bench for another year, Like,
- 1:46:11Speaker 2: I just don't see why you why bother again.
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: I think you look what happened with the Falcons. You
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: sign one of these veteran quarterbacks, a guy who is
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: on the back end, and you want to be ready
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: if he drops off.
- 1:46:21Speaker 2: I'm just having a tough time imagining it's.
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: Not gonna It's not gonna happen with Rogers because Rodgers
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: won't let it happen. I just feel like I think
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: with Russell Wilson could happen. Yeah, it's a copycat league. Wait, hang,
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: I got a couple more receiver bus for you.
- 1:46:35Speaker 2: I just think it's it's a copycat league and that
- 1:46:37Speaker 2: might change things. But to your point about Penis being good,
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: like Pennix might have just been so good that the
- 1:46:43Speaker 2: Falcons looked at it and were like, we can't pass
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: on this, trying to.
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: Tell people you can get them with the second row.
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: I will never stop with that victory. This is not
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: the point of the only one that's gonna be would
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: have been bigger is that the Vikings had signed a quarterback.
- 1:46:57Speaker 2: But right, like Penix was so good that they you
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: could maybe make that case. I don't think you can
- 1:47:02Speaker 2: make that case with cam warden Shador. Like if you're
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: a drafted I think you can make it for Kim
- 1:47:05Speaker 2: Warrdon if you're drafting one of those two guys and
- 1:47:07Speaker 2: you really have to believe in that guy, right and
- 1:47:09Speaker 2: like putting him on the bench for a year.
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: I just well, I think some of it is too.
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: Like Kirk Cousins got that massive contract, right, he was
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: signed to be a definitive starter. Is Russell Wilson gonna
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: get that kind of money? Is Russell Wilson gonna have
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: that kind of job security?
- 1:47:22Speaker 2: I don't know. No, he's not. He's not.
- 1:47:23Speaker 1: He's not gonna be a It's not like you're coming
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: down from where from where Cousins was to. If we're
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: gonna comport to the Falcons, hang, I cut more receivers
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: from Okay, So this is again, if Teed McMillan is
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: a bust, what is his comp because we don't think
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: it's to kill harryt Okay, Will Fuller, no, Kevin White, No,
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: all right, I'm gonna give you one more. This is
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: super weird because people like this guy, but he's maybe
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: the most overrated wide receiver of his arrow because he
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: had one good year, two good years Michael Thomas. But like,
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: is Teed McMillan like post twenty nineteen Michael Thomas closer?
- 1:47:58Speaker 8: Right?
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: Because Michael Thomas was really good at running slant routes
- 1:48:01Speaker 1: and then that was kind of it, and teams basically
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: figured out how to counter it, and they got hurt.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: So because Tep McMillan is big, but he's also kind
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: of that guy where he's gonna be exposed a lot
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: to big hits because of his size.
- 1:48:13Speaker 2: Closer, Okay, that's probably your closest one yet, honestly, you.
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: Could make you can make an argument in Ted McMillan's
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: ceiling middle Floor are a Michael Thomas. So I just
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: different stages of Michael Thomas.
- 1:48:26Speaker 2: I actually thought when I was doing comps for all
- 1:48:28Speaker 2: the receivers, I actually thought of Michael Thomas with Jaden Higgins,
- 1:48:32Speaker 2: you know, like a guy that I think is gonna
- 1:48:34Speaker 2: really win at the first and second level and not
- 1:48:36Speaker 2: running by anybody and kind of be a slam boy
- 1:48:38Speaker 2: and like all that kind of stuff. I kind of
- 1:48:40Speaker 2: thought of that with Jayden Niggins, And I guess Jaden
- 1:48:42Speaker 2: Higgins is kind of day to teed McMillon. So maybe
- 1:48:45Speaker 2: like washed Michael Thomas is, like how he he is
- 1:48:48Speaker 2: a complete bust? All Right, That was a long way
- 1:48:50Speaker 2: to get to that point.
- 1:48:51Speaker 1: Saint should have kept Brandon Cooks.
- 1:48:53Speaker 2: Uh, Mike is in Virginia. What's up, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike?
- 1:49:00Speaker 2: All Right, Mike, Sorry about that. If you if you're
- 1:49:01Speaker 2: still there a callback in Eldred, what's going on Eldred?
- 1:49:06Speaker 8: Hey, Evan, Alex, how y'all doing? Uhh? I think t
- 1:49:11Speaker 8: mac gonna surprise all of y'all. But if you come
- 1:49:14Speaker 8: with a buff, I'm coming with LaQuan Treadmill.
- 1:49:17Speaker 4: Fred will uh used to be the Vices, then he.
- 1:49:19Speaker 8: Went to the I think he went to the Steelers.
- 1:49:22Speaker 2: Yeah six four. He's just like he was a raw
- 1:49:26Speaker 2: you know.
- 1:49:27Speaker 1: Yeah he also wasn't the mover that mcmillany.
- 1:49:29Speaker 2: But yeah, big body receiver. You're on the right track.
- 1:49:34Speaker 8: Yeah. My question is this, Uh, I got two questions
- 1:49:37Speaker 8: for you. Why ain't about talking about James Pearce as
- 1:49:41Speaker 8: a edge rusher because to me, doing that combine to
- 1:49:46Speaker 8: remind me of Gunzo Smooth everything you know, had a
- 1:49:50Speaker 8: good a good combine and all that. And then the
- 1:49:52Speaker 8: other one is uh Dante Thornton Jr. And Uh, I
- 1:49:58Speaker 8: know you talked about him earlier, but but experience, he
- 1:50:01Speaker 8: is sad to speed. He could he could play against
- 1:50:04Speaker 8: man Press. Don's stay still over the top. This weakness
- 1:50:07Speaker 8: just kind of slows him down with debt. Other than that,
- 1:50:10Speaker 8: he's good to get hand fighting, and he's good against
- 1:50:13Speaker 8: man coverage, and he is a six to four, four
- 1:50:15Speaker 8: to three receiver and they ain't got him lifted into
- 1:50:18Speaker 8: what round five? Round six?
- 1:50:21Speaker 2: Yeah? Yeah, thanks take it off there, Thanks elder buddy,
- 1:50:25Speaker 2: have a good one. Thanks for the cause always. Uh.
- 1:50:28Speaker 2: James Pearce is an interesting prospect. He was one of
- 1:50:31Speaker 2: the he was like a top five pick at one
- 1:50:32Speaker 2: point in this draft, right, like he was projected to
- 1:50:35Speaker 2: go super super high. James Pearce. Yeah, and then he
- 1:50:38Speaker 2: had kind of a rough year, not a rough year,
- 1:50:41Speaker 2: but just not the year that people were expecting at
- 1:50:43Speaker 2: Tennessee this past year. And Uh, to me, when I
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: see James Pearce, I think he's a very linear rusher,
- 1:50:49Speaker 2: Like he doesn't have a lot of agility or change
- 1:50:52Speaker 2: of direction to really challenge inside and outside. He's kind
- 1:50:56Speaker 2: of just like a speed to power, I'm gonna run
- 1:50:58Speaker 2: into the tackle and I hope I I kind of
- 1:51:00Speaker 2: make it work type of guy. I think he's raw,
- 1:51:04Speaker 2: and I don't think he's got a great like mobility, right,
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: you know, like ankle bend and hit fluidity and those
- 1:51:12Speaker 2: types of things that usually lend himself to a really
- 1:51:14Speaker 2: high sap production at the next level, Like, could he
- 1:51:18Speaker 2: be a pocket pusher, disruptor, you know, drop him into coverage. Hey,
- 1:51:22Speaker 2: look it's you uh to drop him into coverage like
- 1:51:24Speaker 2: that sort of thing. Yeah, Like I think that he
- 1:51:26Speaker 2: could be that guy, but I didn't see a lot
- 1:51:29Speaker 2: of bend in a lot of twitch to his movements,
- 1:51:32Speaker 2: which would worry me a little bit with him. But
- 1:51:34Speaker 2: like if he has like a draft day weekend fall
- 1:51:37Speaker 2: and he somehow finds his way to the second round,
- 1:51:40Speaker 2: which I think is crazy, but maybe, Like I'm not
- 1:51:44Speaker 2: saying like completely rulling him out as a Day two
- 1:51:47Speaker 2: guy for the Patriots, but I don't think he's in
- 1:51:49Speaker 2: the conversation to be a top ten pick anymore.
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: Yeah, he doesn't have He's a guy that has one
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: elite tool, but he doesn't have a lot of tools. Yeah,
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: Like that one tool is excellent, but he doesn't much
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: beyond that. He's not a first round pick in most drafts.
- 1:52:03Speaker 1: He is kind of that Josh Ucha sort of player
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: I think you're talking about. It's part of the reason
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: he fell was like he came into the year with
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: a lot of expectation and he because he had such
- 1:52:13Speaker 1: a strong twenty twenty three. He played well in twenty
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: twenty four, he didn't necessarily get better. He didn't stro
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: anything new. Yeah, and I think that's what has teams concerned.
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: So if you're somebody that believes in just kind of
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: the true speed rusher, yeah he has some value, but
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: he's not much more than that. And because he didn't develop,
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: you know, there's a quick teams have to ask himselves, now,
- 1:52:32Speaker 1: why didn't he develop? Is this all he's gonna end
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: up being?
- 1:52:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's fair. And then the Taekwon Thornton two point
- 1:52:40Speaker 2: zero receiver that he mentioned.
- 1:52:41Speaker 1: Who was I couldn't hear him.
- 1:52:42Speaker 2: I think his last name is really literally Thorton, right,
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: Dante Thorston junior. Yeah, but I mean he's like a
- 1:52:50Speaker 2: six foot three string being fourth fast, fast, and yeah,
- 1:52:54Speaker 2: that's why that's why he was going. You know why
- 1:52:57Speaker 2: he's not projected higher on boards right now is because
- 1:52:59Speaker 2: he's literally, hey, he's a track meat player. You know,
- 1:53:04Speaker 2: that's the type of guy that he is. You know,
- 1:53:06Speaker 2: it's a great athlete, a great combine. I would get
- 1:53:11Speaker 2: too caught up in forty times with players like that.
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: So and I'm so glad I thought of that that's
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: going to come in handy for years to come.
- 1:53:20Speaker 2: Out here, and yeah, that's always my problem.
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: All right, Well, you're gonna have to learn to You're
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: gonna have to be ready to answer the question when
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: you want to hype up one of these guys.
- 1:53:26Speaker 2: So the president of Mason Graham's fan club, who is
- 1:53:31Speaker 2: Floyd and Redford Michigan, that might.
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: Be the for all the free agency stuff, the only
- 1:53:36Speaker 1: guy that truly came off the board.
- 1:53:38Speaker 2: So so Floyd says that we can't rule out Mason
- 1:53:43Speaker 2: Graham because I'm telling you he's Mason Graham's fan.
- 1:53:46Speaker 1: That's something I would expect Mason Graha's biggest fancy say.
- 1:53:48Speaker 2: He's not ruling out Mason Graham because of Christian Barmore's status,
- 1:53:52Speaker 2: you know, in terms of his health. There's definitely a
- 1:53:56Speaker 2: fair point there that they can't necessarily count on having
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: an available Christian Barmore. But I already had concerns about
- 1:54:03Speaker 2: Mason Graham holding up at two ninety ninety five as
- 1:54:06Speaker 2: it is, and now you want to pair him with
- 1:54:09Speaker 2: another guy who weighs two hundred and ninety pounds. I
- 1:54:12Speaker 2: just think that that's very, very light in the middle.
- 1:54:14Speaker 2: Of your defense.
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: It's also are you willing to make your big free
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: agency signing and your top draft pick at the same position,
- 1:54:21Speaker 1: which is not a premium position. That's a tough sell.
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: That's a really tough sell.
- 1:54:26Speaker 2: Yep, that's another great point. You know, it's basically redundant
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: skill set, same position. Yeah, same type of player, like
- 1:54:36Speaker 2: the ways that Milton Williams wins disruptive hands leverage, using
- 1:54:43Speaker 2: his like lower center of gravity to get underneath blockers,
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: first step of quickness into gaps, instincts, motor I just
- 1:54:51Speaker 2: describe Mason Graham. Yeah, so you have now you're gonna
- 1:54:54Speaker 2: just have two Mason Grams.
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: With Milton Williams, or roughly to Milton Williams.
- 1:54:58Speaker 2: Which like there's worse things to have have, but it's
- 1:55:00Speaker 2: it's kind of a luxury, not an absolutely necessity. Uh
- 1:55:04Speaker 2: So that's uh, that's amazing, Graham. It doesn't make me
- 1:55:06Speaker 2: feel like a little bit better than maybe that's off
- 1:55:08Speaker 2: the board, because you know, I wasn't in love with
- 1:55:10Speaker 2: it to.
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: Be I always feel I feel bad, like the last
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: two years, like the guy I've kind of come out
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: is like the no no, no player has been a
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: Michigan guy, and people probably think I just hate Michigan,
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: like I need Michigan to come through with with the
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: guy that I can like really get behind to offset that,
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: because it's nothing against Michigan.
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: All right, let's take these calls. Uh, Mark is in Connecticut.
- 1:55:29Speaker 2: What's up? Mark?
- 1:55:30Speaker 6: Hey, guys, always appreciate you guys taking my calls. I
- 1:55:33Speaker 6: just had a quick one. If we strike out on
- 1:55:35Speaker 6: Cooper Cup Uh to Gooby Myers, what is the prediction
- 1:55:40Speaker 6: there of what he would uh what it would take
- 1:55:43Speaker 6: to get him in a trade, like you know, round wide?
- 1:55:46Speaker 6: What do you guys think on that?
- 1:55:48Speaker 2: Yeah, Mark, thanks for the call. That's a tough one,
- 1:55:50Speaker 2: I would say to to project because I don't think
- 1:55:53Speaker 2: he's really available. So yeah, you have to make the
- 1:55:56Speaker 2: offer to the Raiders that's enticing enough for them to
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: actually move him back to the Patriots so.
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: They don't need a quarterback anymore.
- 1:56:04Speaker 2: Right, So I think that you would have to give
- 1:56:05Speaker 2: them a third or fourth round pick, which seems really high. Uh,
- 1:56:10Speaker 2: just giving the not necessarily like a knock on Jacoby Myers,
- 1:56:13Speaker 2: but just given the way that wide receiver market has
- 1:56:16Speaker 2: moved in trades, like a DK Metcalf only got like
- 1:56:20Speaker 2: a mid second round pick back, So, like, I just
- 1:56:24Speaker 2: in order to make it enticing enough for the Raiders
- 1:56:26Speaker 2: to actually trade him, it's gonna have to be something
- 1:56:27Speaker 2: worth it. Yeah, and so now I think you're kind
- 1:56:30Speaker 2: of overpaying for him.
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: Like the moving down from four to six and getting
- 1:56:33Speaker 1: like Jacobe in a third round pick like that made
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: sense to me, but there's no incentive for the Raiders
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: to do that anymore.
- 1:56:38Speaker 2: Yeah, So yeah, I'm with you.
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: It's it's a tough one. I get why people want
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: to back he's a good player, yeah, but I just
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: I don't know that that's it.
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: If it comes out that he's on the block and
- 1:56:48Speaker 2: he can be had, you know, that's different. But if
- 1:56:52Speaker 2: you have to actually like aggressively pursue him.
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: Yeah, it's probably not gonna be worth it. Yeah.
- 1:56:57Speaker 2: All right, Marvin is in Florida. What's up, Marvin?
- 1:57:01Speaker 9: Hey fellows, how you guys doing good? I think is
- 1:57:07Speaker 9: why don't we trade Dugger for like maybe a third
- 1:57:10Speaker 9: round pick and it will Campbell like pick nine and
- 1:57:16Speaker 9: then trade up to get Golden or another top ar
- 1:57:20Speaker 9: receiver in the draft.
- 1:57:22Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks for the call, Marvin. I don't know what
- 1:57:25Speaker 2: Kyle Duggar's value is really right now. I don't think
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: it's a third round pick at all.
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: That would all be not I also don't think you're
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: gonna will Camble at nine, even as a guard. I
- 1:57:32Speaker 1: don't think you're gonna get at nine.
- 1:57:34Speaker 2: I think your great thought. Yeah, I think you're you're
- 1:57:36Speaker 2: better off almost if you don't have Dugger in your
- 1:57:40Speaker 2: long term plans. I think you're better off him starting
- 1:57:43Speaker 2: the season here and hoping that he starts well, yeah,
- 1:57:45Speaker 2: and then maybe trading him at the deadline for something.
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: But you have to remember, they just paid him, so
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: they just gave him a big contract, so now you
- 1:57:52Speaker 2: know the team is acquiring the contract as well as
- 1:57:55Speaker 2: the player in a trade, and as we've seen across
- 1:57:58Speaker 2: the board, when that's the case, you just don't get
- 1:58:00Speaker 2: the value in the trade that you may think you would.
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: I think Kyle Dugger is unfortunately like kind of like
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: not worth anything like of substantial value.
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: He's here, he's here for now, and that's just what
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: and that's why they need to get a free safety
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: so they can play him in the box and let
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: him do what he does best.
- 1:58:15Speaker 2: Yeah, all right, last one here, then we'll wrap it up.
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: This is from a concerned fan from Chelsea and he says,
- 1:58:22Speaker 2: I'm going insane because for all the discussion around not
- 1:58:25Speaker 2: picking a non left tackle at four, no one is
- 1:58:28Speaker 2: answering the following question. The answering the follow up question
- 1:58:32Speaker 2: of who is going to play left tackle. Before a
- 1:58:35Speaker 2: free agency there was the Ronnie Stanley and Cam Robinson
- 1:58:38Speaker 2: comp out, but now that's gone and there are no
- 1:58:40Speaker 2: severable left tackles left. Well, Cam Robinson's not gone. Uh
- 1:58:44Speaker 2: in my mind, you have to gamble at Campbell at
- 1:58:46Speaker 2: four if he's a bust and ends up as an
- 1:58:48Speaker 2: elite guard. Oh well, so well, Cam Robinson's not gone.
- 1:58:52Speaker 2: First of all. Yeah, I think what you have to weigh,
- 1:58:55Speaker 2: And we talked about this earlier because I think this
- 1:58:57Speaker 2: is a fair point. It's a that is a the
- 1:59:00Speaker 2: question right now, and that's why I wanted to end
- 1:59:02Speaker 2: it on it, because that this is the philosophical question
- 1:59:05Speaker 2: that we're going to be having. Yeah, is are you
- 1:59:08Speaker 2: desperate to the point at left tackle where you're gonna
- 1:59:12Speaker 2: take Will Campbell And if he's a bust and you
- 1:59:14Speaker 2: have to move him inside to left guard, then so
- 1:59:16Speaker 2: be it. And you're willing to take that risk at
- 1:59:18Speaker 2: four overall, I personally would just say that I still
- 1:59:24Speaker 2: don't think it's a terrible option to sign Cam Robinson
- 1:59:28Speaker 2: to a short term contract and Josh and draft one
- 1:59:31Speaker 2: of those second wave guys like a Josh Simmons.
- 1:59:33Speaker 1: Let's say, let's say you can't k Robson. Let's say
- 1:59:36Speaker 1: Robinson's often because that's obvious. Yeah, if you sign Cam Robinson,
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: you draft somebody later. That's easy, right, And I think
- 1:59:41Speaker 1: that's kind of what we'd hope they do from the beginning. Yeah,
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: let's say Cam Robinson signs elsewhere, because that that that's
- 1:59:47Speaker 1: really putting the pressure on because now, okay, you're not
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: like Vaderian Low's in the competition and maybe he doesn't
- 1:59:52Speaker 1: end up being the guy, but you're talking about Vaderian
- 1:59:54Speaker 1: low and equivalent players.
- 1:59:56Speaker 2: Yeah, you're talking about Vaderian Lowe and Josh Connor in
- 2:00:00Speaker 2: a competition, or Darien at Ursery in a competition, or.
- 2:00:04Speaker 1: Like, now I guess you have to talk about I
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: keep want to say Tristan Worst, Jedrick Wills, Jedrick Wills
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: or Tristan Worse's be great. Yeah, Jedrick Wills are one
- 2:00:13Speaker 1: of those other tackles is still available. Like at that point,
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: are you thinking about Will Campbell?
- 2:00:21Speaker 7: Uh?
- 2:00:22Speaker 1: Because I think you will.
- 2:00:24Speaker 2: I think you are thinking about it in general. But
- 2:00:27Speaker 2: you have to be convinced, in my mind, if you're
- 2:00:29Speaker 2: drafting Will Campbell at four that he's he's going to
- 2:00:31Speaker 2: play high level tackle, I think you have to be
- 2:00:33Speaker 2: one hundred percent convinced that he's gonna play.
- 2:00:35Speaker 1: Okay, so but forget what what you think? Right if
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: Cam Robinson, if Cam Robinson is not available, If Cam
- 2:00:45Speaker 1: Robinson is not available, yeah, what are you doing at
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: left tackle next year? That is the question.
- 2:00:51Speaker 2: If I had to pick yes right now, I would
- 2:00:53Speaker 2: try to position myself to draft one of those second
- 2:00:56Speaker 2: wave tackles and put him in a competition with Vedarien Though. Okay,
- 2:01:00Speaker 2: I or signed Cam Robinson and put him in Cam Robins. Well,
- 2:01:03Speaker 2: this is Cam Robinson's off the board, right, Oh he's
- 2:01:06Speaker 2: off the board. Cam Robinson's off the board.
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: What are you doing it? Left out?
- 2:01:08Speaker 2: I would draft Josh Connery or Arianti Ursery and put
- 2:01:11Speaker 2: him in a competition with how high?
- 2:01:13Speaker 1: How high would you draft him?
- 2:01:14Speaker 2: Twenties?
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: Okay, so you're moving up from Yeah, well I'm saying
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: like you can't just wait at thirty eight to see
- 2:01:20Speaker 1: which one falls and then neither fall, And now what
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: are you doing? Right? Yeah, okay, maneuver. Let me see
- 2:01:25Speaker 1: Will Campbell's pro day numbers.
- 2:01:27Speaker 2: Why is that going to change me? He worked out
- 2:01:29Speaker 2: of the combine.
- 2:01:29Speaker 1: Yeah, and the combine numbers are way off from the
- 2:01:31Speaker 1: senior in terms of everybody else. I'm like, yeah, all right,
- 2:01:35Speaker 1: all right, fair enough, I'm not closed in. I don't
- 2:01:38Speaker 1: think they're going to close the door on Will Campbell
- 2:01:39Speaker 1: being the answer that question. I really don't. No, I
- 2:01:42Speaker 1: don't think there's whether they should or not is another conversation,
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: like he very well may be a guard I think
- 2:01:46Speaker 1: he is, but it doesn't matter what me and you
- 2:01:49Speaker 1: would do because we're not up there or over there
- 2:01:51Speaker 1: wherever the office is. Right, it's what they would do.
- 2:01:54Speaker 1: I just I have this gut feeling that that door
- 2:01:56Speaker 1: is not totally shut yet.
- 2:01:58Speaker 2: All right, that's gonna do it for this weeks. Catch
- 2:02:00Speaker 2: twenty two A lot to talk about today. That was
- 2:02:03Speaker 2: a good show.

- 2:02:05Speaker 2: We'll be back next week. I think we'll probably do
- 2:02:08Speaker 2: an even harder reset of the draft board and all
- 2:02:11Speaker 2: the Patriots options and at the top of the draft
- 2:02:14Speaker 2: and throughout the draft next week, so we'll be here
