- 0:05Welcome to The Hypnotist, the show that gives you inside
- 0:09access to cutting edge hypnosis with real clients facing
- 0:12genuine. Issues.
- 0:13Brought to you by The Hypnotherapist, demanded by
- 0:16celebrities CE OS and even royalty Adam Cox, these
- 0:21recordings took place live from Evans Clinic in London's world
- 0:24famous Harley Street. So get yourself comfortable and
- 0:31enjoy today's episode of The Hypnotist.
- 0:39Hi, it's Adam here. Now let me ask you a question.
- 0:41Do you spend too much time doom scrolling or doing the kind of
- 0:47things that just give you cheap dopamine?
- 0:49Maybe it's checking social media notifications or spending too
- 0:53much time on videos that just get you hooked in these
- 0:57algorithmic loops. If so, you might benefit from
- 1:00this session because I was working with a client that was a
- 1:04high level executive at one of the biggest tech companies in
- 1:07the world and they found themselves in their spare time
- 1:11chasing that cheap dopamine. Now in real terms, when you look
- 1:15at what they were earning as a salary plus their stock options,
- 1:19they figured out that an hour of their time was worth $600.00.
- 1:24That's almost like, you know, if you think about it in terms of
- 1:2860 minutes, it's kind of like, well, $10 a minute.
- 1:32So therefore they could really get a sense that if they spent
- 1:36an hour doom scrolling, it was costing them 6. $100.
- 1:40And that was acting as a pattern interrupt and they didn't really
- 1:45want to feel that way now. This.
- 1:48Hypnosis session is designed to do 2 key things to let them know
- 1:52that actually dopamine is a. Wonderful thing.
- 1:56If it is linked to progress, if it's linked to accomplishment,
- 2:00if it's linked to things that they can take pride in,
- 2:03dopamine's a wonderful neurotransmitter.
- 2:05It keeps people growing and moving forward.
- 2:08This is why throughout history and civilization, we try to
- 2:11accomplish more and more things because dopamine is the reward
- 2:15system. But companies have figured out
- 2:19that they can create a almost a a nation, a planet of addicts if
- 2:25you get them hooked on the dopamine linked to short form
- 2:29entertainment. And social media is the the best
- 2:31example because a lot of people find themselves from doom
- 2:34scrolling. But it could be gambling, it
- 2:37could be a game, it could be social media feeds that aren't
- 2:41necessarily video related but more text related like Twitter.
- 2:44Some people will constantly check a post every time they get
- 2:47a new notification. Because it gives them.
- 2:50That dopamine, Now what this is about is about not saying
- 2:54dopamine is bad, but saying cheap dopamine is actually
- 2:58stealing time, stealing resources, and there's an
- 3:01opportunity cost. And it's based in Hawaii for the
- 3:04induction because they had a recent holiday there.
- 3:07And it links into certain themes and principles to enable them to
- 3:11imagine a future of what they accomplish if they traded in the
- 3:16cheap dopamine for the quality dopamine.
- 3:19And there's a few metaphors in there as well.
- 3:22Now to get the best out of this session, I would encourage you
- 3:25to think of where are you getting your cheap dopamine from
- 3:29now? Is it from YouTube?
- 3:32Is it from social media? Is it from something else like
- 3:37WhatsApp messages or dating sites?
- 3:40Wherever you're getting your cheap dopamine, think of that
- 3:43and get a sense of what an hour of your time is worth.
- 3:46So when you hear hear the $600.00, it could be more, it
- 3:49could be less depending on how much money you earn.
- 3:52And that isn't to say that there is no value in having rest and
- 3:56relaxation and recreation, but there's a big difference if
- 3:59you're choosing to spend your time to watch a movie on Netflix
- 4:03to feeling like you have to to kind of get that need of
- 4:08dopamine met. So first of all, think of where
- 4:11you're getting your dopamine from.
- 4:12And then secondly, think about what would life be like if you
- 4:16could take all of that time that you currently spend chasing
- 4:20cheap dopamine? And what would it happen?
- 4:23And what could happen in your life if suddenly you took that
- 4:26same time, that same energy and fuelled it into something that
- 4:29gave you the dopamine that comes from accomplishing or learning
- 4:33or growing or evolving in some way.
- 4:35And then you get more value from this session.
- 4:38Now if you want a bespoke one-on-one session with me, the
- 4:43way to do that rather than just listening to my recordings is to
- 4:46schedule a free consultation call.
- 4:48Now I have a website whichisadamcox.co.uk, and there
- 4:53you can book a free consultation call.
- 4:55We'll have a chat around about half an hour over Zoom.
- 4:57I'll get to know you and your situation, and I can let you
- 5:00know how many sessions I think might be useful to help you in
- 5:03whichever area of your life feels like it would be most
- 5:06beneficial. For now, though, you might get
- 5:09some value from this session. So find a quiet, relaxing place,
- 5:13the kind of environment you're not going to be distracted or
- 5:15disturbed. Relax and enjoy the session.
- 5:39Take a deep breath in and as you breathe in, breathe in that
- 5:50calm, slow, wonderful feeling of relaxation and as you exhale you
- 6:06feel a wonderful feeling of relaxation.
- 6:10Position your body in such a way where each breath takes you
- 6:15deeper, relaxed, and you can sink into that wonderful feeling
- 6:23of ever increasing relaxation. That's it.
- 6:32And the deeper you breathe, the more relaxed you feel.
- 6:39And the more relaxed you feel, the deeper you breathe.
- 6:49As your body relaxes, your imagination awakens, and I want
- 6:58you to allow your imagination to take you back, back in time not
- 7:06long ago to a time where you were in a Cove with a lagoon
- 7:22there on a beach in Hawaii. I want you to imagine wearing
- 7:32whatever is comfortable and appropriate to be on that beach
- 7:40by that lagoon. Imagine the sunshine on your
- 7:47skin. Perhaps even imagine paddling in
- 7:53the shallow waters of the lagoon.
- 7:58Maybe you can recall the temperature of the water, the
- 8:04sensation of wet sand between your toes.
- 8:10And I want you to imagine what it would be like to imagine that
- 8:15you have that entire beach, the entire lagoon, all for yourself.
- 8:24It's just your imagination. Let's make it a private beach
- 8:29just for you. And I want you to imagine
- 8:38somewhere you see a tiny plant. And I want you to imagine that
- 8:47that tiny plant has brightly colored different leaves.
- 8:55And I want you to imagine that each leaf of this plant enhances
- 9:04or activates your sensory and perceptual abilities.
- 9:14And I want you to imagine what it would feel like to take one
- 9:19leaf of that plant there in that Cove, on that beach, next to
- 9:26that lagoon, and just place it there on your tongue or under
- 9:32your tongue. And just imagine that this plant
- 9:36has psychoactive or psychosensual abilities, enhance
- 9:46neuroplasticity, a higher level of sensory acuity and perception
- 9:54of the unperceivable. And then imagine going on an
- 10:01adventure within your imagination.
- 10:06Perhaps you can imagine a hammock or perhaps a blanket and
- 10:11blanket on the beach. And just imagine eyelids feeling
- 10:15heavier and drifting off into a wonderful magical adventure
- 10:22within your imagination there on that beach.
- 10:31And as you breathe in, imagine breathing in a color, a color
- 10:36that represents the creator consciousness.
- 10:42Not a consumer, but a creator. And if that has a color, imagine
- 10:48breathing in that color can imagine a color that represents
- 10:55calm authorship and breathe in that color.
- 11:03And this feels like a swirl of colors, empowering colors.
- 11:10And as you exhale, I want you to imagine exhaling an attachment
- 11:19to cheap dopamine. I want you to think that there
- 11:28are some animals that exist that when a parasite takes hold, they
- 11:36are influenced by the parasite. It changes what they crave to
- 11:42eat. It can even change what they do.
- 11:49Most addictions the like parasites, once it takes hold,
- 11:59it can encourage a human to do more of something that benefits
- 12:06the parasite more than the host. So as you exhale, I want you to
- 12:15imagine breathing out a color that represents any parasitic
- 12:21holds that you may be attached to.
- 12:28Maybe they're dark and grey, breathing in an empowered
- 12:33consciousness and exhaling anything attached to being.
- 12:43The host. Of a parasite or the slave of a
- 12:49neural pathway. Each breath feels liberating,
- 12:55freeing, exciting. And perhaps you can hear the
- 13:03sound of gentle waves nearby. And I want you to feel that a
- 13:13lagoon is like the sea, but protected, still and clear,
- 13:23where the water is shallow enough to see the sand beneath,
- 13:28and just soft ripples move gently across the surface.
- 13:36And when the sun is shining, the sunlight breaks into patterns
- 13:41that shift without effort. Sometimes a lagoon is created
- 13:51because it's shielded by a reef or by rocks.
- 13:58The reef or the rocks do the hard work so the water inside
- 14:04can remain calm. I want you to get a feeling
- 14:11here, in this place, in this journey, in your imagination.
- 14:20I want you to feel that you are protected.
- 14:24This is a safe, still place, a calm place.
- 14:32Nothing you need to do. And I want you to feel that your
- 14:39mind, your mind is a wonderful place.
- 14:48It can be volatile, but also calm.
- 14:53And right now feel that your mind is like the warm Stillwater
- 15:00of a lagoon. Imagine your physical body is
- 15:06still there on the beach. Within your imagination.
- 15:11Imagine there is a part of you stepping slowly into the water
- 15:18and as you look back you can see your physical body there, there
- 15:24on the beach, and notice how the water is warm.
- 15:33It doesn't need to be exciting. It doesn't need to be dull.
- 15:40I want you to feel that the water is just right, and your
- 15:48nervous system recognizes this immediately.
- 15:53Because just the sensation of water on your skin is not the
- 15:58feeling of chasing dopamine. It's a feeling of connection and
- 16:05mindful sufficiency. Nothing to fix, nothing to
- 16:12consume, and nothing to prove that when you're in nature, you
- 16:22have presence. You are there in a symbiotic
- 16:30relationship with the nature, and as your body settles, I want
- 16:39you to feel that calm does not reduce power.
- 16:45Being calm concentrates it. I want you to think of a
- 16:53advanced martial artist. They can be calm, composed,
- 16:59powerful and intentional. Just because there is the
- 17:05capacity to do something doesn't mean there's an obligation to do
- 17:11it. It's better to be the warrior in
- 17:17the garden than the gardener in the war.
- 17:25And then imagine floating in that lagoon.
- 17:29I want you to become aware of two very different modes of
- 17:34being. One is consumption, absorbing,
- 17:41reacting, scrolling and grazing, and always responding to what's
- 17:48already been created by someone else.
- 17:54And the other is creation. I want you to think of a movie
- 18:04how people used to get their dopamine.
- 18:08It would take a producer, a director, a writer, and actors
- 18:13and editors months, perhaps even years to create something that
- 18:19could be consumed in 90 minutes. Creation is deliberate.
- 18:28Creation is slower. Creation takes time.
- 18:37But creation is intentional, and somewhere deep inside, I want
- 18:46you to connect with the creator consciousness within.
- 18:55You were never meant to live on cheap dopamine.
- 19:00Your mind is too capable, too powerful.
- 19:04You were designed for meaningful output, and I want you to
- 19:12imagine your attention as something tangible, not
- 19:17abstract, not vague. Maybe you can picture your
- 19:24attention as capital, clean, liquid, valuable, like a scarce
- 19:33resource. I want you to imagine that if
- 19:41the price of your attention is the same as what your time is
- 19:49worth to pay you, and every time you chase cheap dopamine you
- 19:59realize how expensive it is, I want you to connect with one.
- 20:06Just 10 minutes of looking at some mindless videos online that
- 20:15don't enhance your life don't educate you.
- 20:21Would you pay that much? For that content, I want you to
- 20:29think of how much you've spent on theatre tickets, shows,
- 20:38performances, and it dawns on you.
- 20:44You've spent more money on something that is truly
- 20:51impressive, and you're spending similar amounts or more in the
- 20:57value of your attention on things that are limited,
- 21:05wasteful, gratifying, but not valuable.
- 21:11Because if you can calculate your hourly rate, you can
- 21:16calculate a rate per minute. So when attention is spent on
- 21:24cheap dopamine, that mindless scrolling, reactive eating, late
- 21:32night stimulation, it isn't free.
- 21:39It's expensive in a way you hadn't labeled before, and that
- 21:45awareness lands calmly, not critically.
- 21:50But some people believe that when you know better, you do
- 21:54better. And what if you had to pay
- 22:00$600.00 an hour for cheap dopamine?
- 22:08Would you still consider that dopamine cheap?
- 22:13No shame, no self attack, just clarity and new evaluation.
- 22:20Cheap dopamine isn't cheap, it's simply mispriced.
- 22:27And once something is correctly priced, it naturally uses a
- 22:34different part of your perception, a part that asks, is
- 22:41this worth it? And they're in the lagoon.
- 22:47You notice how everything follows an order where stillness
- 22:53equals clarity equals movement, and never the other way round.
- 23:01I want you to create a new perception that stimulation
- 23:05feels best after regulation. Dopamine lands cleanly after
- 23:13focus. I want you to think that some
- 23:21people, if they're paid before a project, will get a bonus before
- 23:26a project. They lose all motivation.
- 23:30The reward follows the effort. When something is earned, it's
- 23:36appreciated by linking these things after after you do
- 23:48something regulated, after you do something focused, and
- 23:54whether it's exercise or a fast, whether it's learning something
- 24:00new or doing something you've been putting off, when you do
- 24:06the thing intentionally, calmly, deliberately, you earn the
- 24:15dopamine. And once you've earned dopamine,
- 24:21the cheap stuff doesn't really have any appeal anymore.
- 24:28It's almost like when you were a child or a teenager playing a
- 24:38game. Back then, it was powerful,
- 24:48enticing, desirable, and yet now kind of boring, mundane,
- 24:56ambivalent. And I want your brain to make
- 25:00that same connection. There was a time that cheap
- 25:06dopamine felt like a mind hack, a Trevor trove of unlimited
- 25:18desire. But once you've experienced
- 25:26dopamine that is fought for, earned, the cheap stuff feels
- 25:38cheap. And the irony is, sometimes the
- 25:42cheap dopamine is even more expensive than what you worked
- 25:49hard for. I want you to get a feeling that
- 25:58in the past you've applied rules, rigidity, but it's your
- 26:06nature to break free from rigidity.
- 26:11So instead of thinking of rules to follow, I want you think of a
- 26:15lane to drive in. And what lane would that be for
- 26:23you? A lane as a creator, A lane
- 26:27that's intentional, A lane where you're making progress,
- 26:34evolving, growing. And I want you to consider
- 26:41distractions and gratification as drifting, straying outside of
- 26:47your lane. And in the past that would have
- 26:52been an excuse to spiral to think, wow, I've messed this up,
- 27:01now I can do whatever I want. But whatever you want,
- 27:07ironically, is to stay in your lane.
- 27:14To build such resilience and optionality that no matter what
- 27:17the future brings, you can handle whatever life throws at
- 27:22you. If your unconscious is willing
- 27:29to choose effort, growth, and intentions as your lane, and
- 27:38gratification and distraction is out of your lane, let me know by
- 27:43nodding your head. And whenever you stray, think
- 27:51about what you would do on a freeway if you were straying
- 27:55outside of your lane. Nothing dramatic, just
- 28:00adjusting, refining and moving back in your lane.
- 28:08And I want you to feel it's that easy.
- 28:12No big deal, no guilt, no shame. Just refinement, adjustment to
- 28:22do what you want to do more of and less of that stuff that was
- 28:28just depriving you of what you really wanted anyway.
- 28:35Imagine being back in that lagoon.
- 28:37Now imagine walking back to the beach and seeing yourself there
- 28:43in a deep sleep. Imagine the two separate parts
- 28:49of you become one. The conscious and the
- 28:52unconscious, with a collective mission to unleash the most
- 29:00valuable. Capable parts.
- 29:02Of you and to be free of a parasite.
- 29:08Parasite that was feeding on attention.
- 29:14But if attention is your capital, you will be more
- 29:18discerning about where that attention goes to anymore.
- 29:24And instead of feeding your parasite, you will feed your
- 29:29future self, that proud, capable creator that is waiting, waiting
- 29:38for you to become them. So it's time to float back now,
- 29:43back to the present, taking all these thoughts and changes with
- 29:48you. Take a deep breath in through
- 29:50your nose and out through your nose.
- 29:56Just wiggle your fingers, wiggle your toes, connect and calibrate
- 30:01into the here and the now as I now count from 1:00 to 10:00 to
- 30:07awaken you. Starting to count 123 waking up
- 30:12456 more alert 7-8. Open your eyes, open your eyes,
- 30:18910. Wide awake, wide awake, wide
