- 0:19Speaker 1: Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 0:23Speaker 3: It's faith in the booth. Because Matt Morrel is on vacation,
- 0:26Speaker 3: probably had some Marvel cosplay convention.
- 0:31Speaker 4: Trying to yell at people.
- 0:34Speaker 3: All right, social media manager, he said, you know, why
- 0:37Speaker 3: don't we dress up for all our road games? So
- 0:39Speaker 3: when we go to Dallas where Cowboy has what are
- 0:41Speaker 3: you talking about? So he's become cosplay parents and.
- 0:45Speaker 4: We don't have to make a rash decision, I mean, and.
- 0:49Speaker 3: He just he can't help us. Just after we had
- 0:54Speaker 3: one of our listeners right and say, hey, thanks for
- 0:57Speaker 3: not swearing because I have kid. You don't think that
- 1:00Speaker 3: they have all the info.
- 1:01Speaker 5: Now, but I think they had all the info from
- 1:03Speaker 5: his side, no, no b eight days after it hell,
- 1:06Speaker 5: but they decided to let it play out.
- 1:08Speaker 3: But you don't think that they have all the info.
- 1:10Speaker 4: That is, yes, I think they have all the info. Okay,
- 1:13Speaker 4: I don't think any.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Of its positive. That's my next question.
- 1:15Speaker 4: You're just waiting it out.
- 1:17Speaker 6: Well, do you let me finish geez, I hate the
- 1:19Speaker 6: Raiders for the tuck rule. The rule was correctly called, like,
- 1:22Speaker 6: I'm sorry, I know what you want to do, throw
- 1:24Speaker 6: away the rule book.
- 1:25Speaker 1: I guess this is Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:29Speaker 3: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It's Thursday here at
- 1:33Speaker 3: ji Let's Stadium, and it's Deuce, it's Alex, it's Evan,
- 1:39Speaker 3: that's right. I got messed up because I said Alex,
- 1:42Speaker 3: and I started thinking about Alex Barth and then I said, well,
- 1:46Speaker 3: Evan's here Barthibion.
- 1:48Speaker 4: Later for Catch twenty he was.
- 1:50Speaker 3: And uh, Matt is back in the booth, fresh from
- 1:54Speaker 3: Sesame Street place where Sesame Place in Pennsylvania.
- 2:02Speaker 4: All the way to Pennsylvania.
- 2:03Speaker 7: Brought you down there, Yeah, big bird, the kids it
- 2:06Speaker 7: was the last year they could do it.
- 2:07Speaker 3: So I never knew there was such a place.
- 2:10Speaker 4: I went there when I was a kid.
- 2:11Speaker 3: It thirty fourth Street in New York. I didn't know
- 2:14Speaker 3: that there was an actual sesame place.
- 2:16Speaker 4: It was your favorite Sesame character. It was the Count.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Yeah, the Count.
- 2:20Speaker 4: I like that guy.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Oh yeah, that's my.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Guy, Cookie Monster Cookie Monster Shocker.
- 2:26Speaker 3: That's like real life.
- 2:27Speaker 6: I like that.
- 2:30Speaker 8: In the trash, the trash can right.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, me too, just grumpy all the time. Yeah,
- 2:35Speaker 5: someone we know.
- 2:36Speaker 3: Anyway, we're here and uh, yesterday Mac Jones had his
- 2:43Speaker 3: event with Noble here at the field House.
- 2:47Speaker 5: Threw the ball over some mountains I think, yeah in
- 2:48Speaker 5: one of those videos and well, you guys were there.
- 2:51Speaker 3: Tell us there'll be stuff going up on Patriots dot
- 2:53Speaker 3: com today. So you know. It was what you call,
- 2:58Speaker 3: you know, just a feel good type of van with
- 3:00Speaker 3: the local boys, with the boys and y m c A,
- 3:04Speaker 3: y m c A.
- 3:05Speaker 8: It was like thirty kids private event.
- 3:07Speaker 9: They got to do some drills to the ball around
- 3:10Speaker 9: with Mac.
- 3:11Speaker 3: It was fun. Some people got to meet Mac.
- 3:13Speaker 9: Evan had his first Evan met the community relations team
- 3:17Speaker 9: for the first time yesterday.
- 3:19Speaker 6: That's true.
- 3:19Speaker 4: He's a football guy.
- 3:20Speaker 9: These people sit, they sit, they share a cube section
- 3:25Speaker 9: with the social time.
- 3:25Speaker 6: I don't know why this is so surprising to you.
- 3:27Speaker 8: Evan worked here a year. He met Donna for.
- 3:29Speaker 6: The absolutely no offense to anybody. They do a great,
- 3:32Speaker 6: great job. I mean that sincerely. Why would we be
- 3:35Speaker 6: in the same circles.
- 3:36Speaker 4: Yeah, he's football trying to work where to help people.
- 3:40Speaker 3: Mean, it's like being social.
- 3:41Speaker 8: They're on our floor.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Like, hey, how you doing.
- 3:45Speaker 4: You know, so I have filmed to study. I don't
- 3:47Speaker 4: have time for these things.
- 3:48Speaker 9: So the girls that work on Donna's team, Hannah Andrea,
- 3:52Speaker 9: they're all there too. So I'm like, you, guys, can
- 3:53Speaker 9: you believe Evan just met Donna today? Like I was
- 3:56Speaker 9: joking about it, and they were just like awkwardly quiet,
- 3:59Speaker 9: and I was like, wait, have you guys also never
- 4:02Speaker 9: met Evan?
- 4:03Speaker 6: Have you met Evan?
- 4:04Speaker 4: Well?
- 4:04Speaker 5: Donn is one of the most interesting people it works here.
- 4:07Speaker 5: I mean, she's amazing. I just found out she went skydiving.
- 4:10Speaker 5: I mean, you know, all the players know her.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Love her. Yeah she does, I mean the best things.
- 4:14Speaker 3: For she keeps them busy.
- 4:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:17Speaker 6: It was great to obviously that I leave the CR
- 4:21Speaker 6: events mostly to Alex here, but it was great to
- 4:23Speaker 6: see that side of things and and see that that
- 4:26Speaker 6: Mac in that light too. I think it definitely if
- 4:30Speaker 6: some of the people in our are our way of life,
- 4:35Speaker 6: for the reporter field and things like that, that call
- 4:38Speaker 6: him a brat and call him all these things because
- 4:40Speaker 6: of how he how he conducted himself last year, if
- 4:43Speaker 6: they saw him in this environment, I think that they
- 4:46Speaker 6: would have a much different idea of what his personality
- 4:49Speaker 6: is truly like and what he's like as a human being.
- 4:52Speaker 6: I mean the kids, the kids ate it up like
- 4:54Speaker 6: they they loved him.
- 4:55Speaker 3: But more importantly, you seem to have something going on
- 5:00Speaker 3: with Mac. What what is this like?
- 5:01Speaker 6: He picked you out of a crowd of hundreds hundreds
- 5:06Speaker 6: is like five of us? Oh, I'm not telling this
- 5:09Speaker 6: story myself.
- 5:10Speaker 8: There's a big group.
- 5:11Speaker 4: I got Alex to come on the show.
- 5:13Speaker 8: There's a big group of us that I know.
- 5:14Speaker 9: I had a big deadline with my magazine story.
- 5:16Speaker 8: But this is important.
- 5:19Speaker 6: I think ragging on me is more.
- 5:20Speaker 8: Not even ragging.
- 5:21Speaker 9: I think that you had a great life moment, and
- 5:24Speaker 9: I knew you were too humble to tell everyone else
- 5:26Speaker 9: about it, so I had to come do it.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Yeah I'm humble, so do tell.
- 5:30Speaker 9: So I finish up my interview with Mac for this
- 5:34Speaker 9: nice little piece about him playing with all these kids whatever,
- 5:37Speaker 9: and then the social team gets him to do a
- 5:39Speaker 9: shout out. There's just a lot of people kind of congregated.
- 5:41Speaker 9: Y MCA staff Evans talked behind all of it.
- 5:46Speaker 6: I was shadowing, like I wasn't trying to get in
- 5:49Speaker 6: anybody's way.
- 5:50Speaker 9: Just for the record, So maxys by to all of
- 5:53Speaker 9: us and starts to kind of like he's about to shift.
- 5:55Speaker 8: His weight walk away.
- 5:56Speaker 9: Sees Evan behind some people and goes, oh, Evan, what's
- 6:00Speaker 9: up brother, how you doing?
- 6:02Speaker 8: And Evan's like, oh good, how are you?
- 6:04Speaker 4: Man?
- 6:05Speaker 8: They shake hands, dap each other up whatever. Evan's like,
- 6:07Speaker 8: I'm great, how are you?
- 6:08Speaker 9: And mac Os something to the extent of just itching
- 6:13Speaker 9: to get back out there, babe.
- 6:17Speaker 8: I think Evan was just dropped.
- 6:20Speaker 6: He dropped it.
- 6:23Speaker 3: That tells me that you have some type of prior
- 6:25Speaker 3: relationship with him.
- 6:27Speaker 6: Well, so I think this really start. This really started
- 6:33Speaker 6: last year. Well, you know, I was here for his
- 6:35Speaker 6: rookie yearor two, but I would say last year. I
- 6:38Speaker 6: would always come into his press conferences during the week
- 6:40Speaker 6: on Fridays. Usually he does his presser and and asking
- 6:43Speaker 6: football questions like, you know, the real nerdy, nerdy football
- 6:47Speaker 6: questions that I tend to do. And after a while
- 6:49Speaker 6: he kinda was like, oh, wow, you you you watch
- 6:52Speaker 6: the film, like you know, you know you you see
- 6:55Speaker 6: what you're what you're saying here and things like that,
- 6:58Speaker 6: and and so we we kind of build off of
- 7:00Speaker 6: it from there. And then there were some some moments
- 7:02Speaker 6: in the locker room and things like that where he's.
- 7:06Speaker 3: But here's the lesson to anyone who is working a
- 7:10Speaker 3: beat or you know, for any sport and any team,
- 7:13Speaker 3: show up, come to every press conference, go to every
- 7:17Speaker 3: charitable event that you can for players, and then they
- 7:21Speaker 3: will get to know you. They're not robots, they're like us.
- 7:25Speaker 3: If you with them, you would know who's in the
- 7:27Speaker 3: room and you recognize faces. So show up and be
- 7:31Speaker 3: there and they'll recognize you.
- 7:35Speaker 9: And that's one thing about Mike Reese, like those community
- 7:38Speaker 9: events are not beneath him.
- 7:39Speaker 8: He's at most and that's each other.
- 7:44Speaker 3: That's sometimes those side conversations is where you get the
- 7:47Speaker 3: real job.
- 7:48Speaker 8: You see him work in. You knows what he's doing.
- 7:52Speaker 8: She's a bro.
- 7:53Speaker 9: He knows what he's doing, and he's one of the best.
- 7:55Speaker 3: But show up, show up when you have a chance.
- 7:58Speaker 3: Show up.
- 8:00Speaker 6: Yeah, Alex told me about this event for what like
- 8:03Speaker 6: a month now. We've been talking about me going to it,
- 8:06Speaker 6: and I'm not going to look like Mike Reese's was
- 8:08Speaker 6: the inspiration. Like I see him going out there to
- 8:10Speaker 6: these community events during the off season, and and it
- 8:13Speaker 6: does help him. I'm sure immensely because then we get
- 8:17Speaker 6: into the season and there might be a play or
- 8:19Speaker 6: thing that he wants to talk to a guy about,
- 8:20Speaker 6: and now they have some sort of a rapport with
- 8:23Speaker 6: each other. And and it's also it's good to show
- 8:26Speaker 6: that you're you care about them as people, like it's
- 8:28Speaker 6: not just about football. You know, Mike Reese doesn't show
- 8:31Speaker 6: up to these events to get x's and o's breakdowns
- 8:35Speaker 6: from Mac Jones, like he goes to these events to
- 8:38Speaker 6: be able to get together and know these guys. And uh,
- 8:40Speaker 6: you know, there was one little football thing though from yesterday,
- 8:43Speaker 6: I will one of the kids. He actually did the
- 8:46Speaker 6: kids a little bit. The kid had a heck of
- 8:48Speaker 6: a catch. Only so I was on the opposite side
- 8:54Speaker 6: of the field from where Mac was throwing the football
- 8:56Speaker 6: and Phil Perry actually I think he got it from
- 8:59Speaker 6: from max Mart Marketing people tweeted out the video of
- 9:02Speaker 6: the throw yesterday if you want to go check it out.
- 9:05Speaker 6: Mac threw probably like a sixty yard dime to some kid,
- 9:09Speaker 6: like some like fourteen year old kid made like a
- 9:11Speaker 6: hell of a grab on it too, And I was
- 9:14Speaker 6: standing on the far ends of the field and that
- 9:17Speaker 6: thing was was whistling like you could hear it coming
- 9:20Speaker 6: towards us. And you know, Mac looks good, like he
- 9:23Speaker 6: looks a little bit thicker, like he was packed on
- 9:26Speaker 6: yeah some muscle. Yeah, and he looks like he's ready
- 9:29Speaker 6: to go. I mean when he he said to me,
- 9:31Speaker 6: he was like, you know, ready to go, and uh,
- 9:34Speaker 6: let's ride, I think was the other thing. And then
- 9:35Speaker 6: he's like, wait a sec, that's Russell Wilson for a second.
- 9:40Speaker 6: And but uh, when he said, let you know, I'm ready,
- 9:44Speaker 6: like let's go, let's get this going, like there was
- 9:46Speaker 6: some some you know, well hutspa in his voice.
- 9:50Speaker 4: I thought, what was interesting.
- 9:51Speaker 5: What you said about it too, is just like I
- 9:53Speaker 5: forget how you put it, but you just, you know,
- 9:55Speaker 5: you said he's very relaxed, and those of course he
- 9:56Speaker 5: should be. He's working with a bunch of kids. This
- 9:58Speaker 5: is you know, what it's really all about. You know,
- 10:00Speaker 5: I felt even just in Ota is a little bit
- 10:02Speaker 5: like he just seems a little bit more self assured.
- 10:05Speaker 5: I think the last you know, everyone expects the first
- 10:07Speaker 5: year as a rookie, you're gonna come in, your head's
- 10:09Speaker 5: going to be spinning.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Every question you get asked has to go through a
- 10:11Speaker 4: filter of like what am I gonna say? Do I
- 10:13Speaker 4: get in trouble here? You know?
- 10:15Speaker 5: But it seems like he's getting that down a little
- 10:17Speaker 5: bit more. And it's just I mean, hopefully it translates
- 10:19Speaker 5: to the field of like confidence and you know, being
- 10:21Speaker 5: able to execute and those things. But I mean, just
- 10:24Speaker 5: from what I saw, I like that kind of aspect
- 10:26Speaker 5: of them too.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Yeah, So that was the big news yesterday.
- 10:30Speaker 5: Yeah, the big bass was about it other than like
- 10:32Speaker 5: a bunch of Patriots making honorable mention of lists now
- 10:35Speaker 5: is about it.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Never forget that. But Tuesday we couldn't take phone calls
- 10:41Speaker 3: because we had a little technical snaffoo. But everything's working
- 10:45Speaker 3: again now. So eight five to five paths five hundred
- 10:47Speaker 3: if you want to call the show eight five five
- 10:49Speaker 3: paths five hundred, web radio at Patriots dot com if
- 10:51Speaker 3: you want to email it, so we'll get to those.
- 10:55Speaker 3: Any other I mean, nothing new on the Hopkins thing
- 10:58Speaker 3: is the same.
- 11:00Speaker 4: All quiet I did catch Hopkins was on Family Feud
- 11:03Speaker 4: the other night. It was like an old one. It
- 11:04Speaker 4: was from like twenty seventeenth, but I was like, hey,
- 11:05Speaker 4: there is.
- 11:07Speaker 5: But no, no, I think they lost. It was like
- 11:10Speaker 5: NFL legends versus like current NFL players. So you know,
- 11:13Speaker 5: we gotta love family feud, right, everybody likes family food, good, good,
- 11:16Speaker 5: laugh a little bit.
- 11:17Speaker 6: I love playing family food while watching family Feud.
- 11:20Speaker 5: It's one of my favorite you have like an actual
- 11:22Speaker 5: family feud during family food.
- 11:23Speaker 6: I just I feel like I would do really well
- 11:26Speaker 6: on family Feud.
- 11:27Speaker 4: I do like I feel like why because your family
- 11:29Speaker 4: is good? Or like that's a weird show to feel
- 11:31Speaker 4: confident and like if you want to go.
- 11:33Speaker 6: In jeopardy, like especially when they like do it at
- 11:35Speaker 6: the end, like the what's it called when they when
- 11:37Speaker 6: they have to do they like you win the money,
- 11:40Speaker 6: I feel like I would be really good at that.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Sometimes they're ridiculous.
- 11:44Speaker 5: One of the questions on that though, was what is like,
- 11:47Speaker 5: what's the average amount of times you a man would
- 11:50Speaker 5: be in.
- 11:50Speaker 4: A fist fight over the course of his life?
- 11:52Speaker 5: And uh and so, oh gosh, who who answered the
- 11:56Speaker 5: first the first guy answers at fifteen page? It was
- 12:00Speaker 5: Pedro Martinez. Pedro Martinez. This was the one before the football,
- 12:04Speaker 5: this was the baseball one. And they said what's enough?
- 12:09Speaker 5: But it didn't make me think of like what's the
- 12:11Speaker 5: reasonable but of course Pedro Martinez, Like I mean, I'm
- 12:14Speaker 5: sure like he did get in a lot of fights
- 12:16Speaker 5: like growing up.
- 12:16Speaker 4: But he's not your average. But it's just tough about
- 12:18Speaker 4: those questions.
- 12:19Speaker 5: Like you asked a hundred studio audience members from family
- 12:22Speaker 5: Feud what their perspective of a fist fighters, and then
- 12:25Speaker 5: you asked, like you know, Pedro Martinez, who, like you know,
- 12:28Speaker 5: professional athlete.
- 12:29Speaker 4: But I don't know.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I was gonna say three.
- 12:31Speaker 4: I thought three.
- 12:34Speaker 3: Three.
- 12:35Speaker 6: Well, getting into a fight in hockey.
- 12:39Speaker 3: It's punching is a long time.
- 12:41Speaker 4: Well just number of number of fits.
- 12:44Speaker 6: Number like what's considered a fist fight though, Like if
- 12:46Speaker 6: one person throws a punch, is that now a fist fighter?
- 12:49Speaker 5: I think you gotta you're you're going in, You're going
- 12:51Speaker 5: in with the fists out. I mean, I don't think
- 12:52Speaker 5: I've ever technically been I mean hockey, there's been a couple,
- 12:55Speaker 5: but not not like a real siblings sisters.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Yeah, what are you trying to say, I'm not dropping
- 13:02Speaker 4: hands on my sissies.
- 13:04Speaker 8: They hit you rather definitely.
- 13:07Speaker 4: No, I had psychological warfare for my sisters. That was
- 13:11Speaker 4: physical stuff anyway, that's my Yeah, So I would say
- 13:14Speaker 4: tho the quarterback thing that quarterback shows coming out. People
- 13:17Speaker 4: starting to talk about that a little bit with Patrick some.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Of the trailers.
- 13:20Speaker 6: Yeah, I saw some people have already watched it and
- 13:25Speaker 6: like reviewed it and stuff. And I guess the opening
- 13:28Speaker 6: scene is like Peyton Manning describing what a quarterback is, Like,
- 13:31Speaker 6: I'm like, the simple basic like intro to football level
- 13:36Speaker 6: the quarterbacks the one.
- 13:37Speaker 3: To me, to me, to me, it reminds me of
- 13:40Speaker 3: like in school, you okay, you have a thousand word
- 13:43Speaker 3: essay and you just draw it out, like every sentence
- 13:46Speaker 3: is just run on sentence. That's what I feel. This
- 13:49Speaker 3: thing is like Marcus Mariota Kirk Cousins, you know, like, yeah,
- 13:54Speaker 3: I'm interested in my homes and but you're not going
- 13:57Speaker 3: to see much else than what you've already seen you
- 14:00Speaker 3: on NFL films. I don't think I, you know.
- 14:02Speaker 5: I want to get a behind the scenes look at
- 14:04Speaker 5: at Brittany Mahomes and see maybe a little bit what
- 14:06Speaker 5: you know, because we see what her what she does when.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Brother, I don't think that's going to be your.
- 14:14Speaker 6: Biggest brothers in it. I have heard though, that Brittany
- 14:19Speaker 6: Mahomes comes off pretty well. Yeah, in it, which I'm
- 14:22Speaker 6: sure is editing and all that.
- 14:23Speaker 3: Course they probably approved.
- 14:26Speaker 9: They have like a voice body double for her.
- 14:29Speaker 6: I'm just I'm saying this is that from the people
- 14:33Speaker 6: that have had had have seen it weeks ago, you know,
- 14:35Speaker 6: the sneak peak folks. I guess that she she does
- 14:39Speaker 6: some some much needed pr on her image in this documentary.
- 14:43Speaker 5: I mean I would That's what I would expect, and
- 14:45Speaker 5: I just wanted to see how came off when when
- 14:47Speaker 5: she actually was I.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Mean, if I'm Patrick, I'm not letting her on unless
- 14:50Speaker 3: she comes off good. Oh yeah, make her look good,
- 14:53Speaker 3: or you're not getting.
- 14:54Speaker 4: Her raised the voice a little bit.
- 14:57Speaker 3: Uh.
- 14:57Speaker 4: The Jets are going to be on Hard Knocks. I
- 14:59Speaker 4: guess that's the best news.
- 15:01Speaker 3: That's the second time they've been on Hard Knocks.
- 15:03Speaker 6: Last time Ryan probably the best one.
- 15:06Speaker 4: I don't get a snack.
- 15:08Speaker 3: They dropped. Boy, they came off like a bunch of
- 15:12Speaker 3: hard os. Huh.
- 15:14Speaker 4: What year was that was that?
- 15:15Speaker 6: I mean ten or nine, I want to say, because
- 15:18Speaker 6: ReBs was remembers holdout, Yeah, and.
- 15:20Speaker 3: They had that was the big thing with all the kids.
- 15:24Speaker 6: That was the hard Knocks. That was that was Hard
- 15:26Speaker 6: Knocks kids. It was You can say what you want
- 15:32Speaker 6: about Rex Ryan, but his hard knock season is the
- 15:34Speaker 6: best one by far.
- 15:35Speaker 4: It was my favorite time of the Jets as a Patriots.
- 15:37Speaker 5: Family, just having him, you know, there, and and just
- 15:40Speaker 5: all the hype that he stirred up missed.
- 15:43Speaker 3: He really did. He made you anxious, like you didn't
- 15:46Speaker 3: want to lose to this guy, you know.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Right, it makes you mad, like the kiss the rings
- 15:51Speaker 5: thing right out of the gate, and then the calling
- 15:53Speaker 5: season ticket holders.
- 15:55Speaker 3: I'm telling you that affected us. I remember that game
- 15:57Speaker 3: like it was yesterday. So he puts the call out
- 16:00Speaker 3: to all the season to get older, we need you
- 16:02Speaker 3: to be loud, lau Lauwow. I was like, okay, we
- 16:05Speaker 3: show up with these grease boards because oh we're not
- 16:09Speaker 3: gonna work talking. We're gonna do it silently. It affected them.
- 16:12Speaker 3: It changed the way they approached the game and we
- 16:16Speaker 3: lost that game. Yep, you know yeah.
- 16:19Speaker 4: I mean it's you talk about what.
- 16:21Speaker 5: You want as a new franchise, especially where the Jets
- 16:23Speaker 5: were at at that particular moment where you knew you
- 16:25Speaker 5: had a good defense.
- 16:25Speaker 4: But they brought Mark Sanchez in rookie quarterback. We all
- 16:28Speaker 4: know what that's like.
- 16:29Speaker 5: But you know, just the fact that they then actually
- 16:32Speaker 5: lost to them, Like you watch them on hard knocks.
- 16:34Speaker 4: And you're like these buffoons and the Patriots.
- 16:38Speaker 3: The ultimate losses. You know, you go into the divisional
- 16:41Speaker 3: playoff game and you get your butts kicked by them
- 16:43Speaker 3: after having just kicked their butt in the in the
- 16:47Speaker 3: regular season.
- 16:47Speaker 6: Obviously like taking out Super Bowl losses, that that was
- 16:50Speaker 6: one of the ones that stings the most that Patriots
- 16:53Speaker 6: lost to the Jets in the playoffs.
- 16:55Speaker 9: Still remember like the aim away message I posted after
- 16:57Speaker 9: that game, and.
- 16:58Speaker 3: And Rex Ryan, I don't know if it was Rex
- 17:01Speaker 3: Ryan or one of the players on defense basically came
- 17:03Speaker 3: out and said, yeah, our game plan on defense was
- 17:06Speaker 3: to funnel everything into the middle and just cover that medal,
- 17:09Speaker 3: and it worked.
- 17:11Speaker 4: Scott probably, I mean that's I think that was an example.
- 17:13Speaker 5: Yeah, just when the game kind of unfolds a certain
- 17:16Speaker 5: way and you kept waiting for Brady to get on track.
- 17:19Speaker 5: But I think they had a long drive that I
- 17:21Speaker 5: that David Harris I think picked a pass off and
- 17:23Speaker 5: went the other way and then they almost had a
- 17:25Speaker 5: touchdown with Algie Crumpler, but he dropped one, and it
- 17:28Speaker 5: was like, you know, the kind of snowballs on you.
- 17:30Speaker 4: You realize, like, we better get going here.
- 17:32Speaker 5: This is not going our way, and it was one
- 17:34Speaker 5: of those rare I still feel like they did kind
- 17:37Speaker 5: of make a push, but it was way a.
- 17:39Speaker 3: Little too late.
- 17:40Speaker 6: Too late. They scored, but it.
- 17:42Speaker 4: Was not like, oh, the door is open. It was
- 17:44Speaker 4: kind of a garbage time.
- 17:45Speaker 3: I remember going into that feeling pretty confident.
- 17:49Speaker 5: But that was twenty ten. I think did the Packers
- 17:52Speaker 5: win the Super Bowl that season.
- 17:54Speaker 4: That's not one of the Super Bowls that people lament.
- 17:56Speaker 5: And even though that was a Brady MVP season, I
- 17:59Speaker 5: think everybody looks at it and says they defense was.
- 18:02Speaker 6: Not Yeah, but in the regular season when he.
- 18:05Speaker 5: Was unstoppable, right, it just didn't matter. And they get
- 18:08Speaker 5: so many interceptions that it's just offset how bad they
- 18:11Speaker 5: were on defense. But I mean some of those names
- 18:13Speaker 5: and faces that they had on the back end were.
- 18:15Speaker 6: I remember, you know, like the Baltimore loss to Ray
- 18:19Speaker 6: Rice and like welcome tore Is acl in week seventeen. Yeah,
- 18:23Speaker 6: and that kind of felt like, well, you know, they're
- 18:26Speaker 6: probably not going to go on and run without Welker.
- 18:28Speaker 3: Was over in the first quarter, right.
- 18:30Speaker 4: My god, first play I couldn't believe it.
- 18:31Speaker 5: I mean it was like bang, bang bang, that's steamrolled, right,
- 18:34Speaker 5: I mean, and then Terrell Suggs just like absolutely cleaned
- 18:37Speaker 5: his clock or was it ray Lewis one of the two, Yeah,
- 18:40Speaker 5: but I mean it was what it was like twenty
- 18:42Speaker 5: to nothing before you even that one was bad.
- 18:44Speaker 6: And then obviously like Brady's first playoff loss against the
- 18:46Speaker 6: Broncos was I mean as a kid, like, I had
- 18:49Speaker 6: never seen him lose a playoff game yet, so I
- 18:52Speaker 6: like that was shocking. But losing to the Jets when
- 18:55Speaker 6: you had a team that probably should have gone on
- 18:57Speaker 6: a Super Bowl type run. Yeah, the visual round when
- 19:00Speaker 6: you just like Fred said, you did just blew their
- 19:03Speaker 6: doors off, like right around Thanksgiving. He was like forty
- 19:06Speaker 6: five to three.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Year I got to give Marsante some respect on that
- 19:09Speaker 5: game too, because he played awesome. He played out of
- 19:11Speaker 5: his mind, like I know, what is how his career went,
- 19:13Speaker 5: But for that one game he was lights out and
- 19:15Speaker 5: that was Yeah.
- 19:16Speaker 3: I do think that, you know, we make fun of
- 19:18Speaker 3: Rex Ryan's he's kind of a clown and that's kind
- 19:20Speaker 3: of his stick. But I think as a head coach
- 19:23Speaker 3: he was a good motivator I think guys wanted to
- 19:26Speaker 3: play for him, and I think he got guys ready
- 19:28Speaker 3: to go, and I think he knews defense. I think
- 19:30Speaker 3: he knew he was a good defensive coordinator.
- 19:33Speaker 5: I mean it was blood, I mean, was that was
- 19:35Speaker 5: that Jets little thing that was the closest anybody got
- 19:37Speaker 5: in the AFC actually threatening the Patriots over the twenty
- 19:41Speaker 5: I mean, you know they beat him in a nine
- 19:42Speaker 5: and ten and in the playoffs in ten.
- 19:44Speaker 4: I mean it's not a lot of.
- 19:46Speaker 3: You were worried there. You were like, uh oh, this
- 19:47Speaker 3: could be a rivalry, right, we could be you know,
- 19:50Speaker 3: seeing this again. And then he goes to Buffalo and
- 19:53Speaker 3: he tried to do it there.
- 19:54Speaker 5: But you know there were some overtime games too, I
- 19:56Speaker 5: think against the Jets near the Ende mean and the
- 19:57Speaker 5: bucket happened too.
- 20:00Speaker 6: Rex Ryan when they had Gito and he was in overtimes.
- 20:02Speaker 4: Where I get gray about where did they where did
- 20:04Speaker 4: he leave?
- 20:05Speaker 6: And then I guess it came in hindsight. You you
- 20:09Speaker 6: kind of saw him flaming out coming just because of
- 20:11Speaker 6: how much of a personality he was, Like how long
- 20:14Speaker 6: could that really go on in a lock?
- 20:16Speaker 3: Well that's what happened in Buffalo. I think that team
- 20:18Speaker 3: was undisciplined and they would make some really bad mistakes.
- 20:21Speaker 3: And I think the trickle down from the head coach,
- 20:24Speaker 3: you know, I think it was just they were just
- 20:26Speaker 3: too you know, well those.
- 20:28Speaker 5: Two Patriots games, you know, kind of sum up the
- 20:30Speaker 5: experience where it's like the one hand, they came in
- 20:32Speaker 5: here and got their doors blown off, but yet they
- 20:34Speaker 5: were still able to turn it around forget about it,
- 20:37Speaker 5: and you know, execute a perfect game plan.
- 20:40Speaker 4: That was Welkoer getting benched too right early on Walker
- 20:42Speaker 4: got bench for.
- 20:44Speaker 6: Yeah, that was that was just funny.
- 20:46Speaker 3: So now they have Aaron Rodgers and they'll be on
- 20:49Speaker 3: Hard Knocks. So we'll see.
- 20:51Speaker 5: I mean Amon Rodgers must see TV with him. I
- 20:53Speaker 5: mean that's won't oh man, I think I have to.
- 20:58Speaker 6: I think Hard Knocks to me has on really far downhill.
- 21:01Speaker 6: I think the main reason being that teams are so
- 21:07Speaker 6: paranoid that something is going to get out there that's
- 21:10Speaker 6: going to be a competitive disadvantage that now it's just
- 21:12Speaker 6: completely stripped down to the.
- 21:14Speaker 4: That's the stuff I would live Ford was.
- 21:16Speaker 5: You know when you get the camera like this one
- 21:17Speaker 5: up here, you know, in the room, and you'd see
- 21:19Speaker 5: kind of the wide angle and like the coach would
- 21:21Speaker 5: have to cut somebody or the coaches were talking about
- 21:24Speaker 5: their position groups and what they were getting out of guys,
- 21:26Speaker 5: and I love that stuff. But now you get more
- 21:28Speaker 5: of like meanwhile at home, this is what's going on,
- 21:31Speaker 5: you know, and you're following, like the families, like what
- 21:34Speaker 5: they're doing during cam.
- 21:35Speaker 6: You know, there was a few years ago, I think
- 21:37Speaker 6: it was JJ Watt said that he like picked up
- 21:39Speaker 6: like a snap count cadence by watching Hard Knocks, and
- 21:43Speaker 6: ever since that happened, it's been watered down completely from
- 21:47Speaker 6: a football.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Well that's why.
- 21:48Speaker 5: I mean, Tommy Kerrn said, you know, if the Patriots
- 21:50Speaker 5: were to not make the playoffs this year, that they
- 21:52Speaker 5: could be forced candidates for Hard Coming, how much would
- 21:55Speaker 5: Bill Belichick try to resist that one?
- 21:58Speaker 3: That would be the year he resigned.
- 22:03Speaker 5: I mean, and I mean it's fascinating. We know, we
- 22:06Speaker 5: know what it's like here, you know, having to to.
- 22:08Speaker 4: Work with them.
- 22:09Speaker 5: I mean, what what what kind of freedom do NFL
- 22:12Speaker 5: films producers have.
- 22:14Speaker 4: To just we have to produce a show.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Nothing.
- 22:15Speaker 4: We're on a schedule.
- 22:17Speaker 3: The Patriots social media.
- 22:19Speaker 5: Yeah, the show has to air Wednesday night and they
- 22:23Speaker 5: they need to know.
- 22:24Speaker 4: So I mean it's it would be a dicey it
- 22:26Speaker 4: would be really dicey. It'll be really dicey with how
- 22:28Speaker 4: they like to run things. I just I don't thinking
- 22:30Speaker 4: a TV show like that.
- 22:31Speaker 6: I don't think h or Max. It's not HBO anymore, right,
- 22:34Speaker 6: it's Max. I don't think they want any part of
- 22:39Speaker 6: the Patriots, Like I know that from a numbers perspective,
- 22:41Speaker 6: that might might break the bank to have Bill Belichick
- 22:44Speaker 6: on Hard Knocks. But at the same time, like we know,
- 22:47Speaker 6: like you can find out an hour before practice that
- 22:50Speaker 6: something else is going on that you know that you
- 22:52Speaker 6: don't normally think would happen on that day or something
- 22:56Speaker 6: like that, and and just the logistical nightmare, and they
- 22:59Speaker 6: would do it on purpose. We know that.
- 23:00Speaker 4: Oh yeah.
- 23:01Speaker 5: I mean I've worked in like two industries and I
- 23:03Speaker 5: think that they're the most logistical nightmare industries. I mean,
- 23:06Speaker 5: between football and production, Like there are just two things
- 23:09Speaker 5: that are can drag on forever.
- 23:11Speaker 4: You never know exactly whether they're coming or going, you.
- 23:13Speaker 3: Know how like some some teams have that you know,
- 23:16Speaker 3: guy that keeps the coach from running on the field,
- 23:19Speaker 3: like the keep back. They would have the stand in
- 23:21Speaker 3: front of the camera guy, So they would have a
- 23:24Speaker 3: guy whose back would be to the camera the whole time.
- 23:27Speaker 4: Just get some big former offensive lineman. Just let him
- 23:29Speaker 4: kind of like park it in front of their security.
- 23:31Speaker 9: Guy, the security guys Brian and stuff, just like, oh, nope,
- 23:34Speaker 9: you can't go across that line.
- 23:35Speaker 8: Nope, you can't go over there.
- 23:36Speaker 9: Gosh, the whole the whole hard knocks would be like
- 23:39Speaker 9: three angles.
- 23:40Speaker 4: It would it would all be warm ups and stretching.
- 23:43Speaker 3: It would turn into like the boyd the Dog Show.
- 23:46Speaker 3: You know, that would be the only interesting.
- 23:48Speaker 4: They'd be following us around.
- 23:49Speaker 8: That's what it would be. The hard knocks of the
- 23:51Speaker 8: social team trying to do it. Football up.
- 23:53Speaker 4: How do you guys do this?
- 23:55Speaker 8: Yeah? Same, Yeah, we get it.
- 23:58Speaker 3: Neil Perry dressed up like a cowboy.
- 24:02Speaker 8: That's a real thing.
- 24:02Speaker 3: He really of all people want serious.
- 24:06Speaker 6: I got it.
- 24:07Speaker 3: He was like, you know, when we travel, we should
- 24:08Speaker 3: dress up.
- 24:09Speaker 9: Yeah, but like, okay, you travel and dress up for Dallas,
- 24:13Speaker 9: but like what.
- 24:13Speaker 3: About normal Miami was all white.
- 24:16Speaker 8: All white linen, human chain.
- 24:18Speaker 5: I get that that Denver was going to kind of
- 24:21Speaker 5: be cowboys Vegas.
- 24:22Speaker 3: You're gonna dress like Elvis Elvis's Pirates.
- 24:26Speaker 6: Yeah, it's funny coming from Neil of all people, because.
- 24:30Speaker 8: How do we dress in New York?
- 24:32Speaker 3: He's a secret cosplay guy.
- 24:33Speaker 5: Well, and the way that it all started too was
- 24:35Speaker 5: like he said he was going on vacation in Montana,
- 24:37Speaker 5: so you're going to dress up.
- 24:38Speaker 4: Like a cowboy. And he's like, well and you could.
- 24:41Speaker 5: I'm like, there's something here, Like he's kind of hesitated
- 24:43Speaker 5: for a second. He's like, well, like I got the hats,
- 24:46Speaker 5: I'm trying to get all the guys to wear it.
- 24:47Speaker 5: And then so then I started doing your thing where
- 24:49Speaker 5: it's like, what about like Chaps.
- 24:51Speaker 8: Is he on a bachelor party?
- 24:52Speaker 4: No, it's just cowboy.
- 24:54Speaker 8: Does he want his friends to dress up?
- 24:56Speaker 3: I'm telling you this side of him that you don't know.
- 25:00Speaker 4: This is. I'm like, will there be a leather vest
- 25:03Speaker 4: with nothing underneath.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Just bikini briefs or something.
- 25:08Speaker 6: I Actually I would sit next to Neil quite a
- 25:13Speaker 6: bit on our trips and traveling with Neil is the time,
- 25:18Speaker 6: it's it's candy.
- 25:20Speaker 8: He comes out of his shelf.
- 25:21Speaker 6: He is thriving Neil. Neil on the road is is
- 25:25Speaker 6: peak Neil like that that's he's.
- 25:27Speaker 5: Been developing to a no socks character for the show
- 25:29Speaker 5: where everyone kind of knows we talk about one guy.
- 25:31Speaker 4: They don't know exactly who he is, but.
- 25:34Speaker 5: Yeah, funny, we'll see what he comes back, comes back looking.
- 25:38Speaker 3: Like oh boy, hopefully comes back anyway.
- 25:41Speaker 9: All right, Paul to Paul Texans last weekend from a
- 25:45Speaker 9: bachelor party, like why are you at a bachelor party?
- 25:49Speaker 4: Came on or something. Yeah, he was the first person.
- 25:52Speaker 8: Everyone was very impressed with his wrapping skills. He had
- 25:55Speaker 8: to tell me. It's like, what are you doing?
- 25:59Speaker 3: Bought him a little at a lot of diet Millers.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Right now, all right, eight five five pass five hundred
- 26:05Speaker 3: is the ACE ticket houtline web radio at patriot dot
- 26:08Speaker 3: com is the email addressed. There is some NFL news
- 26:11Speaker 3: with Dan Snyder. That thing's not done yet.
- 26:13Speaker 5: It sounds like John John's gonna go nuclear on the
- 26:16Speaker 5: whole situation or something.
- 26:19Speaker 3: So that that situation they said it could hold up
- 26:22Speaker 3: the actual sale up to this guy, you know, it
- 26:25Speaker 3: could complicate it. Oh my gosh.
- 26:27Speaker 4: Yeah, well see what John Cruden's got up his sleeve.
- 26:29Speaker 4: I'm sure that's good.
- 26:30Speaker 3: That was another seth Workersham Dan Vanatta thing and then
- 26:36Speaker 3: I saw on Twitter today Dan Vanada kinda you know,
- 26:40Speaker 3: taking shots at Pro Football Talk really, you know, using sources,
- 26:45Speaker 3: and you know.
- 26:47Speaker 5: Pro Football Talk has been annoying me generally, just because
- 26:49Speaker 5: it feels like he goes through and he just digs
- 26:51Speaker 5: up stuff from the off season about the Patriots and
- 26:53Speaker 5: then posted as if it's new information. And he's done
- 26:55Speaker 5: a couple of times the last two weekends where I'm like.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Why why aren't clicks?
- 27:00Speaker 6: He had a headline about Damion Harris had a press
- 27:02Speaker 6: conference in Buffalo, and Damion Harris said that it was
- 27:06Speaker 6: rocky from the Star in New England. But if you
- 27:08Speaker 6: listen to the full quote talking about injuries that he
- 27:11Speaker 6: you know, he dealt with a ton of injuries with
- 27:13Speaker 6: the Patriots, and so it was he had said.
- 27:16Speaker 5: I was misled the same way he said, like, oh gosh,
- 27:18Speaker 5: what is he gonna say some beats. No, he's just
- 27:21Speaker 5: saying that he never really got on track here and
- 27:22Speaker 5: that he was hurt alone.
- 27:23Speaker 6: Right right, He had nothing to do with the organization
- 27:26Speaker 6: or with Belichick or anything like that.
- 27:28Speaker 5: Well, then the other one we were talking about, which
- 27:30Speaker 5: came up twice today, was was the violin thing. And
- 27:33Speaker 5: then somebody like Agrigor what's his name? The fake person
- 27:37Speaker 5: who bro Bile bro Bible's guy. So he writes it
- 27:41Speaker 5: like Belichick's friends are worried that that was.
- 27:44Speaker 6: The line Involan say nothing. I read Volan's column to
- 27:47Speaker 6: see what the heck this was all about, and there
- 27:50Speaker 6: is like a throwaway line after a long paragraph where
- 27:55Speaker 6: he claims that Belichick's people close to Belichick are worried
- 28:00Speaker 6: about Belichick's long term job security. And I'm just thinking
- 28:04Speaker 6: to myself, friends of Bell, like who who is friends
- 28:09Speaker 6: with Bill Belichick? That's gonna go? And like you think
- 28:11Speaker 6: Nick Saban's picking up a phone and calling Ben Vollen.
- 28:14Speaker 3: It's it's Jimmy Johnson, Right, it's Nick Saban, It's Tom uh.
- 28:20Speaker 6: L to Matt Patricia, Yeah, I mean like his buddies.
- 28:24Speaker 3: Would these people be Mike Mike Lombardi could be one.
- 28:28Speaker 6: But it's also like there's a difference, And this is
- 28:30Speaker 6: the part that I think you get into the weeds
- 28:32Speaker 6: a little bit. There's a difference between Mike Lombardi from
- 28:36Speaker 6: a media perspective, looking and giving an opinion and then
- 28:40Speaker 6: actually saying that I talked to Bill and Bill is
- 28:42Speaker 6: the next.
- 28:43Speaker 3: Door neighbor and wherever he lives.
- 28:45Speaker 8: You know, the clicks are hard to come by.
- 28:49Speaker 5: No, I just it's an it's frustrating when things are
- 28:52Speaker 5: you feel like kind of being manufactured a little bit,
- 28:54Speaker 5: specifically about the patriots, like we got them going on,
- 28:56Speaker 5: Like do we really need to like rehash every negative.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Story from one thing? I think is what about this
- 29:01Speaker 3: whole thing going on on the Twitter with you know
- 29:08Speaker 3: that is something?
- 29:09Speaker 4: What do you do did you?
- 29:11Speaker 5: I mean, it's it takes real talent to come off
- 29:13Speaker 5: like a total d bag on Twitter generally, like just
- 29:16Speaker 5: like why do you use Twitter just to go.
- 29:18Speaker 9: And like talk crap about people like and you can
- 29:22Speaker 9: like make the comment about the New York media and
- 29:25Speaker 9: maybe inflating people's careers without.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Sauce Gardnerdrell res is other than Dion Sanders. He might
- 29:33Speaker 3: be one of the best, you know, uh cover corners. Ever,
- 29:37Speaker 3: I mean, he was uncanny the way he could stick
- 29:40Speaker 3: with guys.
- 29:41Speaker 6: I think that Darrell and Sauce are in two very
- 29:44Speaker 6: different categories here. So if his comment from if his
- 29:48Speaker 6: comment was to attack, was to bring revis into it,
- 29:51Speaker 6: then completely ridiculous. What he said about Sauce has some merit,
- 29:55Speaker 6: like I'm just gonna be honest, and I know that
- 29:57Speaker 6: that's gonna come off as like a Patriots honk take,
- 29:59Speaker 6: but like what done. It's one year, It's one year
- 30:03Speaker 6: in a really cornerback friendly system, like let's let's give
- 30:07Speaker 6: it some time and see. I think saw It is
- 30:09Speaker 6: going to be a really good player for a long time.
- 30:11Speaker 6: But I do think that the hype is a little
- 30:14Speaker 6: bit like out of control. I think this all started
- 30:15Speaker 6: from Jeremy Fowler's positional rankings thing that had Sauce as
- 30:20Speaker 6: like the number two corner in football already, and I
- 30:23Speaker 6: think Patrick Surtan was number one and Sauce was number two,
- 30:27Speaker 6: And so Samuel was just kind of saying like there's
- 30:30Speaker 6: one year and a really good defense, like like, let's
- 30:34Speaker 6: some of these other guys that have been around the
- 30:35Speaker 6: block a few times that that have been doing this
- 30:37Speaker 6: for four or five, six years, Like those guys aren't
- 30:40Speaker 6: as good as a second year corner, Like I call it.
- 30:44Speaker 3: Him for now.
- 30:45Speaker 5: I didn't know if seven I know, I didn't know
- 30:46Speaker 5: if that reply was real, but I mean that's the
- 30:48Speaker 5: dance that Asante Samuel does on Twitter. He comes out
- 30:51Speaker 5: and he attacks Bill and then a bunch of Patriot
- 30:53Speaker 5: fans come after him with screenshots of Super Bowl forty
- 30:55Speaker 5: two and the ball going off his hands.
- 30:57Speaker 3: This wasn't a rest. I thought it was fake, but
- 31:01Speaker 3: I revis ended up taking it down, I think. But
- 31:04Speaker 3: I mean it's funny how like you think other team
- 31:08Speaker 3: other players on other teams don't pay attention to those
- 31:11Speaker 3: things that are like lore in Patriots Nation. But like, yeah,
- 31:15Speaker 3: other players know that he had a chance to end
- 31:18Speaker 3: that Super Bowl and seal the perfect season. He didn't
- 31:21Speaker 3: do it.
- 31:22Speaker 5: I'd love to I wish I could hear Paul's what
- 31:24Speaker 5: his kind of opinion is of Samuel was just as
- 31:26Speaker 5: he developed here. I mean, he was always a ball
- 31:28Speaker 5: ball like he's a ballhawk. I mean he just made
- 31:30Speaker 5: plays on that. I mean, it's a different defense now
- 31:32Speaker 5: what they play like. I don't think he'd be the
- 31:34Speaker 5: same guy here that he was then, But I don't
- 31:36Speaker 5: think there's any arguing that the guy had an innate
- 31:39Speaker 5: sense of he was going to break on the player.
- 31:43Speaker 3: But he's not a Hall of Famer, and you know,
- 31:46Speaker 3: he's not one of the greatest cornerbacks ever.
- 31:49Speaker 6: He's not gonna conflicted on Sante Samuel's whole his whole
- 31:53Speaker 6: persona because in this instance, Reeves was going to bat
- 31:56Speaker 6: for a jet. He had nothing even do with the Patriots.
- 31:59Speaker 6: It became about the Patrio Riots when they brought up
- 32:01Speaker 6: the seven Super Bowl, but it wasn't. I get why
- 32:04Speaker 6: Patriots fans are like, get him Revius because Santa Samuel
- 32:07Speaker 6: takes his shots at Belichick all the time, which is
- 32:10Speaker 6: totally fair, but Revis was defending a jet like he
- 32:15Speaker 6: was Team Jets on this one. So I kind of
- 32:16Speaker 6: feel a little bit like, I don't know if this
- 32:18Speaker 6: is really a win for Patriots fans that Revis was
- 32:22Speaker 6: like given to Santa Samuel to business. But I feel
- 32:25Speaker 6: like I'm conflicted with the Sante as a player too,
- 32:27Speaker 6: because I loved watching him play and he was a really,
- 32:30Speaker 6: really good corner. But now post career, obviously he's turned
- 32:35Speaker 6: into kind of a town.
- 32:39Speaker 5: And it stuns pretty good, right, I mean, he's got
- 32:42Speaker 5: drafted last year.
- 32:43Speaker 6: Yeah, And I don't blame like the Ose seven Super Bowl,
- 32:46Speaker 6: Like obviously he had to pick go through his hands
- 32:48Speaker 6: that could have ended the game, but a million things
- 32:51Speaker 6: could have changed in that game that the Patriots would
- 32:53Speaker 6: have won. So it's it's.
- 32:54Speaker 5: So funny, like Evan, I mean, you know that game
- 32:57Speaker 5: cut me like no game before it.
- 32:59Speaker 4: And yet I still never really like was lamenting a
- 33:02Speaker 4: Sante Samuel's drop like I I didn't. It wasn't like
- 33:05Speaker 4: oh right, Like I don't know, It's just it looks.
- 33:07Speaker 3: Like more so not bringing down Eli when you had
- 33:10Speaker 3: that chance, you hear that.
- 33:11Speaker 9: Name, What did you think of? What you mean when
- 33:13Speaker 9: you hear Sante's name?
- 33:15Speaker 4: Because that's what I well, I'm not that play. I
- 33:18Speaker 4: don't not for me.
- 33:18Speaker 3: More so, that is the night before the super Bowl
- 33:22Speaker 3: walking around like I'm going to be a free agent.
- 33:24Speaker 3: I'm going to get my money, and it's like it's
- 33:26Speaker 3: the night before the super Bowl. Can we just wait
- 33:29Speaker 3: a couple of days before you start talking about being
- 33:31Speaker 3: a free agent? I know, I think.
- 33:35Speaker 5: I think more about the six AFC Championship when he
- 33:38Speaker 5: had to pick six before halftime. That was like, oh
- 33:41Speaker 5: my gosh, we're going to knock the Colts off in
- 33:43Speaker 5: Indy like that at halftime you thought you were sailing.
- 33:46Speaker 5: I don't know, just you know, you watch the game
- 33:48Speaker 5: and certain things stick with you, certain things don't.
- 33:50Speaker 4: I mean, I always there's a you.
- 33:52Speaker 5: Know, a famous story out there that that Rodney Harrison
- 33:55Speaker 5: has told that they were you know, that they had
- 33:56Speaker 5: a zero blitz on and that they were trying to
- 33:58Speaker 5: get get out of it, and Junior say.
- 34:00Speaker 4: I was like, run it, run it, run it.
- 34:03Speaker 5: And you know, Eli's house was stuck on an island
- 34:05Speaker 5: against you know, a giant.
- 34:07Speaker 4: Receiver that he couldn't cover. And that was that.
- 34:09Speaker 5: But there's plenty of things to lament on that game.
- 34:11Speaker 5: I don't know for whatever reason that was once.
- 34:13Speaker 6: That's the thing is like it was one of many
- 34:16Speaker 6: things that went very wrong, and that points I mean,
- 34:19Speaker 6: you know it was it was it was an easy catch.
- 34:23Speaker 6: In hindsight, we can all like you can sit here
- 34:25Speaker 6: on the radio and not on the football field with
- 34:28Speaker 6: twenty two other large humans and say it was an
- 34:30Speaker 6: easy catch. But when you watch it back, he's clearly
- 34:33Speaker 6: worried about getting his feet and bounds first. So he's
- 34:36Speaker 6: like trying to get his feet and bounds and then
- 34:38Speaker 6: he looks up to catch the football, and by the
- 34:40Speaker 6: time he looked up to catch the football, it was
- 34:41Speaker 6: already on him. So he had to like really trying
- 34:44Speaker 6: to just kind of throw his hands at it and
- 34:46Speaker 6: hope he picked it off, but it's uh, he gets
- 34:49Speaker 6: what he deserves on Twitter.
- 34:50Speaker 4: I So it's just every single time here it comes,
- 34:53Speaker 4: Oh my god.
- 34:54Speaker 3: All right, eight past five hundred is the acetick and
- 34:57Speaker 3: hotline web radio at pages dot com. Is email play
- 35:00Speaker 3: to talk about even though it's the dog days. Let's
- 35:03Speaker 3: go to the phones. We'll start with Jim in Virginia.
- 35:06Speaker 3: What's up, Jim, Hey, good after noon.
- 35:10Speaker 10: Fred, Hello, kind of ask your opinion. You know, the
- 35:15Speaker 10: Patriots has got the cap space and de Hawf is
- 35:20Speaker 10: out there. Wouldn't it benefit the Patriots by saying, yeah,
- 35:26Speaker 10: we need to get a number one, just to see
- 35:29Speaker 10: it's a one year deal and to see what.
- 35:35Speaker 3: Mac Jones can actually do that you don't have to
- 35:37Speaker 3: go any further, Jim. I'm yes. The answer is yes.
- 35:40Speaker 3: They should get him. They should get him, and they
- 35:41Speaker 3: should pay. And even if it's a little bit more
- 35:44Speaker 3: than Bill's comfortable with, that's the market. Get him and
- 35:48Speaker 3: and let's let's see, you know, for so many reasons,
- 35:51Speaker 3: including the one you mentioned, let's see what Mac can
- 35:54Speaker 3: do with you know, a full arsenal, you know, let's
- 35:57Speaker 3: do it.
- 35:58Speaker 10: I have one other, one other thing I wanted to
- 36:00Speaker 10: ask you, I said, do you the guys to discuss maybe?
- 36:03Speaker 10: Is I think the defenses in all the AFC teams
- 36:08Speaker 10: are really really good, and I think, you know, it's
- 36:12Speaker 10: going to be a cannibalism of the AFC East and
- 36:17Speaker 10: nobody is guaranteed to be number one here, that these
- 36:21Speaker 10: these teams are all going to get their fish year
- 36:24Speaker 10: of losses. Is that a fair statement?
- 36:27Speaker 3: You mean by beating each other, it couldn't happen.
- 36:30Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 36:30Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 36:31Speaker 10: Defensively. Defensively they're so good all Miami's got a great defense,
- 36:36Speaker 10: the Jets have got a great defense, and Buffalo is
- 36:40Speaker 10: still a good defense. And Patriots we expect them to
- 36:43Speaker 10: be really good defense this year. And I think these
- 36:46Speaker 10: defenses are going to beat up on each other and
- 36:50Speaker 10: cause these teams to not be guaranteed anything.
- 36:53Speaker 4: You could be right, I mean I connected. I think
- 36:56Speaker 4: to a tag of Iloa's health is a big part
- 36:58Speaker 4: of that.
- 36:58Speaker 5: Whole equation because I just think they're a completely different team.
- 37:01Speaker 5: Whether he's in there or he's not in there, it
- 37:03Speaker 5: goes from being a contender to not.
- 37:05Speaker 4: And you know, I as much as I like.
- 37:07Speaker 5: These defenses, you know, I'm interested to see, you know,
- 37:10Speaker 5: the new defensive coordinator Miami. But Blake and Nick Gio,
- 37:15Speaker 5: you know, every everyone loves him. So that's an interesting
- 37:18Speaker 5: kind of new twist. So I don't know, it's still
- 37:21Speaker 5: an offensi driven league, you know, And that's like what
- 37:22Speaker 5: to me, it's just going to boil down to how
- 37:24Speaker 5: does It's more about how does Aaron Rodgers mesh into
- 37:27Speaker 5: that offense with the pieces that were existing and the
- 37:29Speaker 5: pieces that he brought with them. Can Josh Allen and
- 37:32Speaker 5: and Stefan Diggs continue to kind of keep things rolling
- 37:34Speaker 5: the way they have? How does you know the kid
- 37:36Speaker 5: that they drafted fit into that situation up there? Is
- 37:39Speaker 5: that give them a new element? But I think the
- 37:41Speaker 5: defenses are fine. But I think to me, it's it's
- 37:43Speaker 5: about the offenses and who's healthy and who's clicking and but.
- 37:45Speaker 3: That's what's going when you have when you have a
- 37:47Speaker 3: division of good defenses, the best offense will have the
- 37:51Speaker 3: advantage and who's got you know, who can you know
- 37:55Speaker 3: rise above you know these good right?
- 37:57Speaker 12: Well?
- 37:57Speaker 5: The Jets, you know, the Jets offensive score three points
- 37:59Speaker 5: here last year and that game was decided on you know,
- 38:01Speaker 5: the punt return, Like you know, are they gonna just
- 38:03Speaker 5: put up three points of they're in Rodgers anymore or no,
- 38:06Speaker 5: you know, And for as much as we all, you know,
- 38:07Speaker 5: respect the Patriots defense and think that they had a
- 38:10Speaker 5: good year last year, they still haven't beaten two of
- 38:12Speaker 5: they you know, really.
- 38:13Speaker 4: A struggle with Josh Allen.
- 38:14Speaker 5: No matter how much they've spun the dial on him,
- 38:16Speaker 5: they they just can't really seem to, you know, solve
- 38:18Speaker 5: him consistently or get that last stop.
- 38:20Speaker 4: So yeah, yeah, we'll see.
- 38:22Speaker 3: Good call Jim good some good observations. I'm on record.
- 38:26Speaker 3: I I've already said it. I think the Patriots will
- 38:28Speaker 3: have a top five defense this year. And I think
- 38:31Speaker 3: that's saying a lot this year because they're gonna be
- 38:33Speaker 3: playing a lot of good quarterbacks. You know, they're gonna
- 38:36Speaker 3: be playing Mahomes, and they'll playing Rogers, and you know,
- 38:39Speaker 3: obviously Josh Allen twice, Rogers twice. They're gonna so to
- 38:44Speaker 3: have a good top five defense this year will be
- 38:46Speaker 3: quite an accomplishment.
- 38:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I've been I just have really discovered next gen stats.
- 38:51Speaker 5: They're portal, they have a whole film thing you can sort.
- 38:54Speaker 4: It's amazing.
- 38:54Speaker 5: So I've just kind of been doing some defensive jump
- 38:57Speaker 5: in review as I want to do sometimes, But I
- 39:00Speaker 5: really have questions with mccordy out you know, I just
- 39:03Speaker 5: not just his I mean, and I think unfortunately he
- 39:06Speaker 5: was kind of dipping a little bit last year. I think,
- 39:08Speaker 5: you know, I don't think that his play was you know,
- 39:10Speaker 5: staying at the level it had been. And I just
- 39:13Speaker 5: I wonder about the communication on the back end, everybody
- 39:16Speaker 5: being on the same page and just that range.
- 39:20Speaker 4: You know, I don't think any of their guys.
- 39:22Speaker 3: How good will Christian Gonzales be in his first year?
- 39:26Speaker 3: That to me answers a lot of questions.
- 39:29Speaker 4: But what's he ready for?
- 39:30Speaker 5: You know, he's twenty one years old, I mean, and
- 39:31Speaker 5: he's no question an amazing athlete.
- 39:33Speaker 3: But and that is he a good enough athlete to
- 39:36Speaker 3: just put him on the other team?
- 39:38Speaker 4: I don't think so.
- 39:39Speaker 6: I mean, I'm not going to get I mean of
- 39:42Speaker 6: him on the number two with the coverage tilted to
- 39:44Speaker 6: number one.
- 39:45Speaker 3: But even if he can do that successfully, that that helps.
- 39:49Speaker 3: That's something that they weren't really able.
- 39:51Speaker 4: To do last His athleticism will know him.
- 39:53Speaker 3: So what I'm getting at is last year, when you
- 39:56Speaker 3: couldn't do something like that, mccordy makes so much more
- 40:00Speaker 3: difference because he's he's telling everywhere to go making because
- 40:03Speaker 3: you really have to scheme it up. If you have
- 40:07Speaker 3: that one guy that can take out one player, you know,
- 40:10Speaker 3: whether it's the one or the two that you know. Okay,
- 40:13Speaker 3: now it's less of a scheme. It's more you can
- 40:16Speaker 3: play a little bit more man to man, you know,
- 40:18Speaker 3: and maybe you don't. Maybe the loss of mccordy isn't
- 40:21Speaker 3: that bad, if Gozalees is that good?
- 40:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean no, I just think that with mccordy,
- 40:28Speaker 6: you mentioned the range. I'm curious to see schematically if
- 40:31Speaker 6: they do play a little bit more too high shell
- 40:33Speaker 6: this year than they have in the past, because it
- 40:36Speaker 6: just it makes sense, like they have two guys and
- 40:39Speaker 6: Dugger and Phillips, and even if you want to throw
- 40:41Speaker 6: Jabriel Peppers in there that aren't really middle of the
- 40:44Speaker 6: field center fielders like they if you have them playing
- 40:47Speaker 6: just the half field or even just like a quarter
- 40:49Speaker 6: of the field, it just makes it a lot easier
- 40:51Speaker 6: to mitigate that a little bit. But we saw it
- 40:54Speaker 6: in the spring date. They're gonna want to mix and match,
- 40:56Speaker 6: and they're gonna want to spin the dial and the
- 40:58Speaker 6: the sort of un predictability is what they're going to
- 41:01Speaker 6: hang their hat on. Versus with mccordy. It's always one
- 41:04Speaker 6: high with mccordy in the middle of the field and
- 41:06Speaker 6: you kind of knew what was coming.
- 41:07Speaker 5: But I think that that's a little bit of a
- 41:09Speaker 5: double edged sword in that, you know, it's not as
- 41:13Speaker 5: simple as we all want it to be. Where all right,
- 41:15Speaker 5: Christian Gonzalez will be covering aj Brown today for the
- 41:18Speaker 5: duration of the game. Yeah, Like it's not how they're
- 41:20Speaker 5: going to do it, but you know, from a simplicity standpoint,
- 41:22Speaker 5: that would be great.
- 41:23Speaker 4: Like then free safety doesn't really matter. You know, you're
- 41:25Speaker 4: on that guy.
- 41:26Speaker 5: You're on that guy where they do spin the dial
- 41:28Speaker 5: so much where you do have a rookie kind of
- 41:30Speaker 5: working in, you know, where you don't have that presence
- 41:34Speaker 5: who's kind of been there and seen it all. And
- 41:36Speaker 5: certainly Jonathan Jones is as close as you can get
- 41:39Speaker 5: to mccordy with that. But you know, I just I
- 41:41Speaker 5: just have I still have memories of twenty twelve and
- 41:44Speaker 5: it was bombs away on them and they played against
- 41:46Speaker 5: Seattle and I was up there in Seattle watching that
- 41:48Speaker 5: game where it was like they got a bunch of
- 41:49Speaker 5: strong safeties right.
- 41:50Speaker 4: Now, and the you mad brogue, you mad bro game,
- 41:54Speaker 4: you know.
- 41:55Speaker 5: So I look, it's all you know, you can work
- 41:56Speaker 5: around everything, and they'll spin the dial and they'll be
- 41:59Speaker 5: able to cover up some of their weaknesses. But I
- 42:01Speaker 5: just you know, I think overall, as you start to
- 42:03Speaker 5: look at right, what are we really working with here
- 42:05Speaker 5: on defense?
- 42:05Speaker 4: Who's really going to get out there and play and contribute?
- 42:09Speaker 5: You know, key On White, I think is just such
- 42:10Speaker 5: a question mark right now with you know, where's he
- 42:13Speaker 5: gonna end up?
- 42:14Speaker 4: What's gonna happen with Lawrence Guy?
- 42:15Speaker 5: How does Keon White fit into this whole defensive situation?
- 42:18Speaker 5: Is he gonna because I you know, I could make
- 42:20Speaker 5: an argument say he's the next Lawrence Guy, get rid
- 42:22Speaker 5: of Laurence, you know, Lawrence Guy. They want more, all right,
- 42:24Speaker 5: He's key On White's going to be, you know, primarily
- 42:26Speaker 5: a hand down defensive end. But you know, the way
- 42:28Speaker 5: that they've been working him, it seems like they have
- 42:30Speaker 5: higher hopes for him. So you know, there are some
- 42:32Speaker 5: new elements to play with. There's a lot of core
- 42:35Speaker 5: still to stick with it, but it's a lot of potential.
- 42:37Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of potential.
- 42:39Speaker 4: But how do they get over that edge? You know,
- 42:40Speaker 4: how do they get how do they get over the
- 42:42Speaker 4: edge against the good teams? And you know, and I
- 42:44Speaker 4: would qualify the Jets is a good.
- 42:45Speaker 3: Team, so would you. You know, in the past, we've
- 42:48Speaker 3: called the Patriots defense in many seasons, you know, uh, Ben,
- 42:52Speaker 3: but don't break. You think you'll see more of that
- 42:55Speaker 3: this year or less of that this year and they'll
- 42:56Speaker 3: be more aggressive.
- 42:58Speaker 5: Well, I just think that that's a general flow that
- 43:00Speaker 5: they have of the first thing is that we can't
- 43:02Speaker 5: get beat deep like you just you can't give up
- 43:03Speaker 5: big guys, and you know, and we'll work back from
- 43:06Speaker 5: there and yeah, you're gonna maybe give up some you know,
- 43:08Speaker 5: sub twenty yard plays if you can tackle well, which
- 43:11Speaker 5: they usually do great. But I don't know, I don't
- 43:14Speaker 5: really get that vibe as much. I feel like the
- 43:16Speaker 5: Ben don't break thing was more of a mid twenty
- 43:18Speaker 5: tens kind of Matt Patricia thing where you know, once
- 43:21Speaker 5: you got Flores came in, they started getting real aggressive
- 43:24Speaker 5: with blitzing and you know, not just kind.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Of are we're gonna run.
- 43:28Speaker 5: They certainly rush three a lot, they're certainly not on
- 43:31Speaker 5: always on the aggressive end, but when they do get aggressive,
- 43:33Speaker 5: I think they get pretty aggressive and they spin the dial,
- 43:36Speaker 5: and you know, I think that's more of the characteristic
- 43:38Speaker 5: of the Patriots defense now, is more the multiplicity that
- 43:41Speaker 5: they have between their safeties and their cornerbacks. And you know,
- 43:44Speaker 5: you get a few new guys in Marte Mapu, What
- 43:47Speaker 5: how does that change it?
- 43:48Speaker 6: What does it look like the aggressives of their defense?
- 43:50Speaker 6: To me is how Bill feels about the corners, Like
- 43:53Speaker 6: it's it every single year. You go year to year
- 43:56Speaker 6: with their blitz rates and like their pressure packages and
- 43:59Speaker 6: how exotic they get. It all depends on if he
- 44:02Speaker 6: feels like the corners can hold up. If he doesn't,
- 44:04Speaker 6: then they're gonna sag off. And like last year down
- 44:06Speaker 6: the stretch and a lot of those games when they
- 44:08Speaker 6: started getting banged up at corner and they didn't really
- 44:10Speaker 6: have that Stefan Gilmore that Tye Law. They played a
- 44:14Speaker 6: lot of soft zone and they played a lot of
- 44:16Speaker 6: soft coverage and just beat us by You're gonna march
- 44:19Speaker 6: down the field and we're gonna bank on on the
- 44:23Speaker 6: eleventh play of the drive, like you'll make a fatal
- 44:25Speaker 6: error a turnover, you know, get pushed out a field
- 44:29Speaker 6: goal range, like something will go wrong for you in
- 44:31Speaker 6: this series of plays. When they've been truly aggressive is
- 44:34Speaker 6: when they've had Stefan Gilmour and they have recognized, okay,
- 44:38Speaker 6: we can blitz man here because we know we have
- 44:40Speaker 6: the number one corner that can play man to man
- 44:43Speaker 6: against an aj Brown, that can play Manta man against
- 44:46Speaker 6: a Tyree kill. Are they gonna be able to do
- 44:49Speaker 6: that this year? I don't know if Christian Gonzales is
- 44:51Speaker 6: quite ready for the big time in that respect yet.
- 44:55Speaker 6: Maybe he will be. I hope he will be. But
- 44:58Speaker 6: I think that their defense schematic is going to look
- 45:00Speaker 6: a lot like it has the last couple of years,
- 45:02Speaker 6: where first and second down is kind of like a
- 45:05Speaker 6: manage it down, and then third down they get a
- 45:07Speaker 6: little bit more aggressive, but you're still thinking about the
- 45:10Speaker 6: big play and trying to make teams march on you,
- 45:13Speaker 6: which honestly is the whole league, Like, I'm not that's
- 45:16Speaker 6: not a Patriot thing anymore. Like the entire league plays
- 45:19Speaker 6: the same defense. It's kind of boring. Like the entire
- 45:21Speaker 6: league plays zone a lot more zone now they are
- 45:25Speaker 6: all playing more too high coverages too high shells because
- 45:28Speaker 6: these offenses are just so darn explosive and the quarterbacks
- 45:31Speaker 6: are so good that the only thing that teams want
- 45:34Speaker 6: now is like you have to go fifteen plays on us,
- 45:37Speaker 6: Like we're not going to give it up in four.
- 45:39Speaker 6: Like you have to go the ten, twelve, thirteen play
- 45:42Speaker 6: drives and that's every single DC under the sun now
- 45:45Speaker 6: is like march on the way with that. Yeah, So Fangio,
- 45:50Speaker 6: you know, a quarterbased system like four deep across the
- 45:53Speaker 6: deep part of the field and then everything sort of
- 45:55Speaker 6: builds off of the four deep structure. But you know,
- 45:58Speaker 6: the caller I mentioned Miami, and like, throughout my entire
- 46:01Speaker 6: lifetime with Miami, they've they've always had pretty decent roster talent,
- 46:05Speaker 6: but they've never been able to actually like have it
- 46:08Speaker 6: mean anything. And uh, the Fangio hire does worry me
- 46:11Speaker 6: a little bit because that defense does have a ton
- 46:14Speaker 6: of talent. It has had a lot of talent even
- 46:16Speaker 6: before they got Jalen Ramsey, and they just haven't been
- 46:19Speaker 6: coordinated well. And I know Brian Flores is a good coordinator,
- 46:21Speaker 6: but he's aggressive, and that means that sometimes it's not
- 46:25Speaker 6: gonna go your way when you're sending six guys at
- 46:28Speaker 6: the quarterback all the time, and then last year they
- 46:31Speaker 6: were they were not well coordinated defense. So Fangio will
- 46:35Speaker 6: have a system, He'll he'll have game plans like he'll
- 46:38Speaker 6: he'll have that buttoned up that the talent on the
- 46:41Speaker 6: roster should be able to do pretty well.
- 46:43Speaker 3: Let's go back to the ace ticket hutline. Todd's in
- 46:46Speaker 3: North Carolina, Hate Todd.
- 46:48Speaker 13: Hey, guys, just a quick question for mats.
- 46:50Speaker 10: Did it work?
- 46:52Speaker 3: It worked?
- 46:53Speaker 6: Hey?
- 46:54Speaker 4: Thanks for lunch, Todd.
- 46:55Speaker 3: Oh, thanks for you bought lunch today. Thank you, Todd.
- 46:58Speaker 6: Thanks Toddy.
- 46:59Speaker 5: We got the caveat Yeah, the PiZZ of time time Cavia.
- 47:05Speaker 14: The question is if thinking about things, Patriots maybe already
- 47:11Speaker 14: have this all planned outor they feeling confident in what
- 47:13Speaker 14: they can do already. That's just the fact that they
- 47:17Speaker 14: haven't made a move kind of makes me wonder if
- 47:19Speaker 14: they're like, we got what we got, let's just use it.
- 47:22Speaker 3: Well. The reports are that there's an offer on the table,
- 47:26Speaker 3: you know, so if if Hopkins wanted to, he could
- 47:30Speaker 3: sign it and he could be a Patriot. Obviously, the
- 47:33Speaker 3: offer isn't one that he can't refuse, you know. That's
- 47:37Speaker 3: the issue that's frustrating Patriots fans is why not just
- 47:40Speaker 3: get aggressive?
- 47:41Speaker 6: And you know what, what if what if Hopkins really
- 47:44Speaker 6: doesn't want to come here?
- 47:46Speaker 4: I think it's possible.
- 47:47Speaker 3: I mean, I think he just doesn't want to say
- 47:48Speaker 3: it because he likes Bill Belichick. What else? I think?
- 47:52Speaker 6: I look at this scenario as the Patriots are a
- 47:58Speaker 6: fallback plan and and nothing more. Yeah, like if they,
- 48:01Speaker 6: if anybody, if nobody else emerges, then like New England's
- 48:05Speaker 6: fine option for me. I'll go there and nothing else emerges.
- 48:09Speaker 6: But the team that I continue to look out for
- 48:12Speaker 6: is Kansas City, Like if they can get that Chris
- 48:14Speaker 6: Jones contract extension done and free up some cap space
- 48:17Speaker 6: and give him like a one year incentive laden deal
- 48:20Speaker 6: to go play with Mahomes. They don't have really that
- 48:23Speaker 6: true number two outside of Kelsey right now, like they
- 48:26Speaker 6: could use it. And I think that he if you're Hopkins, like,
- 48:30Speaker 6: that's a team that you're hoping is going to free
- 48:33Speaker 6: up the wiggle room to be able to come and
- 48:35Speaker 6: get you. I don't think Buffalo is really a true
- 48:38Speaker 6: a true threat, but I think Kansas City is a
- 48:41Speaker 6: team that's lurking to try to free up the money,
- 48:44Speaker 6: and I think if you're Hopkins, you bring it into camp,
- 48:48Speaker 6: you go a little bit with it, and if come
- 48:51Speaker 6: mid August nobody else is biting, then then you make
- 48:54Speaker 6: a decision between the Patriots and the Titans.
- 48:57Speaker 14: Playing off of that, Andy Hart did a list of
- 49:00Speaker 14: five five stars going into this year, and the five
- 49:04Speaker 14: stars seam at the end of the year for this
- 49:06Speaker 14: team to have been successful, and one of his stars
- 49:09Speaker 14: was Hopkins. So it's pretty wishful thinking, I think to
- 49:12Speaker 14: throw that on, but that sounds like a good question
- 49:14Speaker 14: for you guys, so I hope you'll answer it. I'll
- 49:16Speaker 14: take it off there.
- 49:18Speaker 3: Thanks. So basically saying if they don't get Hopkins, they're
- 49:20Speaker 3: not gonna do it.
- 49:21Speaker 5: I mean, I don't I don't know if I necessarily agree,
- 49:24Speaker 5: but I think Mac would have to be on that list.
- 49:25Speaker 4: I think he would have to be, you know, coming out,
- 49:28Speaker 4: he's got.
- 49:28Speaker 5: To play well and probably juju, you know, like, I mean,
- 49:31Speaker 5: you got to have a guy, and I think somebody
- 49:34Speaker 5: has to emerge, and I think he's the best.
- 49:36Speaker 3: Somebody's got to make up for that production you lost
- 49:39Speaker 3: with Myers.
- 49:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, as much as you've seen Kendrick Borndone
- 49:42Speaker 5: pull ups. I mean, that is intriguing, I gotta admit,
- 49:44Speaker 5: but don't started.
- 49:46Speaker 6: On Jerry Rice.
- 49:49Speaker 3: Let's go to Eldred in North Carolina. What's up Eldred.
- 49:54Speaker 4: URTIs?
- 49:55Speaker 11: Hey, lady, Okay, hey, I'll do it pretty good too,
- 50:00Speaker 11: kind of optimistic, but I don't know. I feel pretty good.
- 50:04Speaker 4: I don't know why.
- 50:05Speaker 11: I want to thank Evan, Evan and Paul, you two
- 50:09Speaker 11: fraid for last Thursday, But being called out by this
- 50:12Speaker 11: dude named Brian y'all s would have made my point
- 50:15Speaker 11: for me, you know, so I hope he was listening.
- 50:18Speaker 11: I want to go in the IL, right, but I'm
- 50:20Speaker 11: not gonna go in a rite like that. I'm just
- 50:23Speaker 11: gonna tell you, son, I'm ex military.
- 50:24Speaker 10: You come for me, I'll come for.
- 50:25Speaker 3: You too, all right.
- 50:26Speaker 11: But if you look at our roster and everybody else
- 50:31Speaker 11: roster top to bottom, is your roster better than the
- 50:34Speaker 11: Jet No Dolphins, no Biel, no Cowboys, no all. The
- 50:41Speaker 11: difference is you got a good head coach. And yes,
- 50:44Speaker 11: it was Tom Brady for those twenty years.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Yeah, well right now, right now, based on past performance,
- 50:51Speaker 3: you're absolutely right. But we're all hoping as Patriots fans
- 50:55Speaker 3: that Osh takes another step, Barmore takes another step, Keon White,
- 51:02Speaker 3: you know, emerges Gonzales and if all these people do Okay, now,
- 51:06Speaker 3: all of a sudden, you've got a good roster. Yeah
- 51:08Speaker 3: you don't see it.
- 51:09Speaker 4: You won't see it, you know.
- 51:11Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, well I'm not right. Well, if sh Shuster
- 51:17Speaker 3: plays well, and if if uh Koseki plays well, and
- 51:22Speaker 3: if mac Jones plays well, you're like, Okay, now you've
- 51:25Speaker 3: got a different opinion of the offense, you know, but
- 51:27Speaker 3: right now you're right based on past performance, it's not
- 51:31Speaker 3: that good.
- 51:32Speaker 6: Yeah, I guess that's a great way to put it,
- 51:35Speaker 6: because I hate I hate this game. I hate the like,
- 51:37Speaker 6: let's look at the roster on July fourteenth and make
- 51:40Speaker 6: a declaration because injuries happen, guys don't perform up to expectation, like,
- 51:46Speaker 6: and that could happen here too, I'm not it's everywhere.
- 51:48Speaker 6: So yeah, in the middle of July, when everybody is
- 51:51Speaker 6: one hundred percent healthy and on paper what everything looks
- 51:54Speaker 6: like the Patriots are the last place team in the
- 51:57Speaker 6: AFC East, right, But like, I don't give it. Why
- 51:59Speaker 6: do I care?
- 52:00Speaker 5: But you know, and so every year a bunch of
- 52:02Speaker 5: new teams make the playoffs, right, those teams are not
- 52:04Speaker 5: usually preseason that you say the same thing about them.
- 52:06Speaker 5: But that's you know, and it goes back to kind
- 52:08Speaker 5: of the big point that I continue to hammer of just.
- 52:10Speaker 4: Being the draft.
- 52:11Speaker 5: It's you know, when you do suddenly find these players
- 52:14Speaker 5: that are going to emerge that you've drafted, that are
- 52:16Speaker 5: young players, you don't suddenly see it like, well, we
- 52:18Speaker 5: know key On White's gonna be awesome, Like Keo White.
- 52:20Speaker 4: Might just be awesome.
- 52:21Speaker 5: You know, like that could maybe just happen and you
- 52:24Speaker 5: don't see it coming. But then all of a sudden,
- 52:25Speaker 5: all right, now, actually the Patriots has some talent, like
- 52:28Speaker 5: you know last year when the Jets got you know,
- 52:29Speaker 5: they've had a good couple of drafts with Garrett Williams
- 52:31Speaker 5: and uh and and and saw us and you know,
- 52:34Speaker 5: it's it's it's you.
- 52:35Speaker 4: Got to start to see those guys play.
- 52:37Speaker 5: So I think, I mean, I get your point, But
- 52:38Speaker 5: for me, I want to get into the season and
- 52:41Speaker 5: start to see some young new faces starting to play
- 52:43Speaker 5: at at a.
- 52:44Speaker 3: High, high level.
- 52:45Speaker 5: You know that that's when you know things are going
- 52:46Speaker 5: to turn around. When the young guys start to emerge.
- 52:48Speaker 6: I also just think, like not to completely take the
- 52:51Speaker 6: Patriots side in this, but I I think a lot
- 52:55Speaker 6: of people look at the top of the roster only
- 52:57Speaker 6: when they do when they think about these things. And
- 53:00Speaker 6: the Patriots certainly do not have the top of the
- 53:02Speaker 6: roster talent that some of these other teams do, even
- 53:04Speaker 6: in their division, Like they just don't. They don't have
- 53:06Speaker 6: Stefan Diggs, they don't have Josh Allen, they don't have
- 53:09Speaker 6: Matt mlana like. They don't have these all pro players
- 53:12Speaker 6: that Buffalo has, or the Jets have or the Dolphins have.
- 53:15Speaker 6: But the Patriots roster like twenty through fifty three like that,
- 53:20Speaker 6: they still have that strong middle class. Now I've talked
- 53:23Speaker 6: about in the past that I don't I don't think
- 53:25Speaker 6: that that wins you football games like it did when
- 53:27Speaker 6: you had Tom Brady. But the middle class does count
- 53:31Speaker 6: for something like that does just right. And the fact
- 53:34Speaker 6: is is that they might not have a lot of
- 53:36Speaker 6: guys that are gonna end up on Jeremy Fowler's position rankings,
- 53:39Speaker 6: but they might have a lot of guys that are,
- 53:43Speaker 6: you know, better number three receivers than other team's number
- 53:47Speaker 6: three receiver or whatever you want to call it.
- 53:49Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, like we mentioned a guy like Marty
- 53:51Speaker 3: Map who, like what if his versatility, versatility is just
- 53:55Speaker 3: perfect for the NFL, and like he does things that
- 53:59Speaker 3: even better better than he did in college. Like those
- 54:01Speaker 3: are the kind of things. Yeah, you need them to happen,
- 54:04Speaker 3: you can't count on it. But if they do, now,
- 54:07Speaker 3: all of a sudden, you're thinking a lot differently about
- 54:09Speaker 3: this team.
- 54:09Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, then there's no direct route. I mean,
- 54:11Speaker 5: you know, Josh Allen a couple of years, they didn't
- 54:13Speaker 5: know what they have him.
- 54:14Speaker 4: You know, some guys do come in and they're amazing
- 54:17Speaker 4: right off the bat, but it took a while, you know,
- 54:20Speaker 4: it's it's it takes some time.
- 54:24Speaker 11: Okay, I'm public for Hopkins, but I'm not. But there's
- 54:29Speaker 11: a just going a wide receiver, oh Denver, and it's
- 54:32Speaker 11: not Judy a sudden, would you put a third, second
- 54:37Speaker 11: round and try to get him and that's your number
- 54:39Speaker 11: one outside receiver?
- 54:42Speaker 6: How much better?
- 54:43Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 54:44Speaker 6: How much better is he than Devonte Parker?
- 54:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't. I haven't heard much about him.
- 54:50Speaker 11: He's pretty good.
- 54:51Speaker 6: No, he's a good player, Like I mean, but I
- 54:53Speaker 6: think Parker is an Okay, he's an okay player, and
- 54:54Speaker 6: I think Parker is an okay player. I just I
- 54:57Speaker 6: don't know if that one.
- 54:58Speaker 11: Is younger and I think he's better.
- 55:01Speaker 6: Yeah, maybe, but is he like in a totally different
- 55:05Speaker 6: tier than DeVante. He's definitely younger, I'll give you that,
- 55:07Speaker 6: But is.
- 55:08Speaker 11: He Yeah, but he can run route, got a route.
- 55:13Speaker 11: But he also got speed and he also can run
- 55:15Speaker 11: down field a little bit, you know what I mean.
- 55:19Speaker 6: I just feel like with guys like Courtland Sutton, I
- 55:22Speaker 6: just how many of those types of guys do he had?
- 55:25Speaker 6: Are you gonna have on one football team? You have
- 55:26Speaker 6: Devonte park or Courtland Sutton, Kendrick Bourne, Juju Smith Schuster.
- 55:29Speaker 6: It's like, all right, so you got a bunch of
- 55:31Speaker 6: number two receivers like cool, Like you know, I just
- 55:35Speaker 6: I would rather them if they're gonna roll with what
- 55:38Speaker 6: they have when you rather than give Taekwon the opportunity,
- 55:41Speaker 6: because that's somebody that has that ceiling that exists that
- 55:45Speaker 6: maybe if Taekwon turns into that that they visioned him
- 55:49Speaker 6: turned into when they drafted him, uh, that it's gonna
- 55:52Speaker 6: be better than Courtland Sutton.
- 55:53Speaker 3: You know.
- 55:53Speaker 6: So, I don't know if I really need like another
- 55:57Speaker 6: another number three, number two guy?
- 56:00Speaker 3: Thanks, Aldred, thanks for the call. Appreciate it. Uh let's
- 56:04Speaker 3: go to William and Phelim. What's up? William?
- 56:07Speaker 13: Hey, what's up? Ford? How you doing?
- 56:08Speaker 3: All right? You ever been to Sesame place?
- 56:12Speaker 13: Year when I went real younger?
- 56:14Speaker 4: Okay, all right, who's your favorite Sesame Street character? William?
- 56:19Speaker 13: My favorite? Said? Uhh, who I don't.
- 56:24Speaker 6: I an't have a favorite cookie monster?
- 56:27Speaker 4: Cookie monster?
- 56:28Speaker 6: Correct answer?
- 56:30Speaker 3: You want to know?
- 56:34Speaker 13: I'm gonna just get right to why why y'all do that?
- 56:36Speaker 13: At elders Man? I know y'all heard what that man said.
- 56:40Speaker 6: Seriously, what are you saying?
- 56:41Speaker 13: I mean, like y'all Okay, Evan just said and said, Okay,
- 56:45Speaker 13: do I really want another receiver?
- 56:46Speaker 10: Of course?
- 56:47Speaker 13: Sellman, he's I'm gonna tell you like this, he's better
- 56:50Speaker 13: to me. He's been in devon King Parker. They might say,
- 56:52Speaker 13: park can't answer the season, not one. Okay, hold on, Juju,
- 56:57Speaker 13: youju ain't even a vocal right now. He's gonna be
- 56:59Speaker 13: on the p us period. He's not ready. He ain't
- 57:03Speaker 13: even been on the fend. Let's see and yet see
- 57:05Speaker 13: who's gonna be a training camp? Who is what you're
- 57:07Speaker 13: gonna see Kenji born Taikwan throwing injured again. He might
- 57:11Speaker 13: be a bus if he gets injured again, would you
- 57:13Speaker 13: consider that a bus?
- 57:16Speaker 4: Thornton probably getting.
- 57:19Speaker 13: Every year. Y'all always say you said the same thing.
- 57:22Speaker 13: But let's see what they got.
- 57:23Speaker 5: What is this?
- 57:24Speaker 13: What is that aging off? You saw him? What it
- 57:26Speaker 13: was you saw was what John Smith? You saw what
- 57:29Speaker 13: it was?
- 57:30Speaker 6: Okay, so we're not allowed to watch training camp before
- 57:33Speaker 6: we start trading. Everybody, Like I don't understand Evan Evan
- 57:38Speaker 6: Courtland Sutton is gonna come in here and and change
- 57:40Speaker 6: and now they're Super Bowl contenders because they have Courtland Sutton.
- 57:43Speaker 13: Evan is out four seasons in your four seasons in your.
- 57:46Speaker 6: Boss is no better and Courtland Sutton makes the roster
- 57:49Speaker 6: a lot better. Like we're not talking about go ahead,
- 57:54Speaker 6: who's a You got X factors and Courtland Sutton is
- 57:57Speaker 6: an X factor like you're talking of.
- 57:59Speaker 4: Like this, this is the whole thing.
- 58:01Speaker 3: And okay, if it was Jerry Judy, it'd be a different.
- 58:04Speaker 6: Thing, right, okay.
- 58:05Speaker 13: And you and you gotta and you gotta what you
- 58:07Speaker 13: got an injury prone receiver that you paid a couple
- 58:09Speaker 13: more millions extent for what thirty years over come, Onya.
- 58:14Speaker 6: I'm just confused. Like I guess loo, I I hear what.
- 58:17Speaker 13: Elgi's saying and I and I back him up. I
- 58:20Speaker 13: agree with him. He went, as long as you've got bills,
- 58:22Speaker 13: your GM, this is what your rock's gonna look like
- 58:25Speaker 13: every year with me a mess Like, I'll ask you
- 58:27Speaker 13: this and I'll leave it at that, cause that changed
- 58:28Speaker 13: because when Elgick got on, that changed everything I wanted
- 58:31Speaker 13: to say. But I'm gonna say this. I'm gonna ask
- 58:33Speaker 13: patris on Fils. I'm gonna ask all of you that,
- 58:35Speaker 13: including Alex all THEO. Okay, if the Patriots don't go
- 58:40Speaker 13: because it's a big chance that you won't make the playoffs,
- 58:42Speaker 13: are y'all ready to move on from Bill? Or y'all
- 58:44Speaker 13: gonna sit there and keep sitting there and try to
- 58:46Speaker 13: get him another chance to get in this fifth season? Wow,
- 58:50Speaker 13: what you're gonna do?
- 58:51Speaker 4: Well, what's it look like? I mean, he can't just
- 58:53Speaker 4: like they go ohen seventeen or do they go like
- 58:56Speaker 4: ten and seven and they just miss it?
- 58:58Speaker 5: Come on, dude, dude, I know you, but there's a
- 59:03Speaker 5: there's a fine line between missing the playoffs by a
- 59:06Speaker 5: mile and and just missing out.
- 59:08Speaker 3: If he's lost, he's lost the team. If they're not
- 59:10Speaker 3: listening to him, then it's time. I think we'll see.
- 59:13Speaker 6: I think that there's a there's. I have two different
- 59:15Speaker 6: I have. I have gripes with with Bill a GM.
- 59:18Speaker 6: I have no gripes of build a coach like Bill.
- 59:21Speaker 6: Bill can still coach as good as it like. I'll
- 59:23Speaker 6: take Bill over the field all day on Sundays. Absolutely,
- 59:28Speaker 6: there's a there's. It's two different things, William, it's two
- 59:30Speaker 6: there It's two different jobs. So Bill a GM. I've
- 59:33Speaker 6: had gripes with for for many many years. At this point,
- 59:37Speaker 6: he doesn't view the roster building process the same way
- 59:39Speaker 6: I do. He's the greatest head coach of all time.
- 59:42Speaker 6: I don't know anything, all right, So maybe he's right,
- 59:44Speaker 6: But let's not be crazy that narrative.
- 59:49Speaker 13: And it's four season and this man supposed to be
- 59:51Speaker 13: the greatest coach of all time, but he can't get
- 59:53Speaker 13: a super Bowl for the greatest quarterback on time.
- 59:56Speaker 4: But do you think you're over valuing what the greatest
- 59:59Speaker 4: coach of all time? I think like the greatest coach
- 1:00:01Speaker 4: of all times should have a terrible roster and should
- 1:00:03Speaker 4: have them making the Super Bowl? William, how much can
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: a coach too?
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: I mean Don Shula could never win with Dan Marino.
- 1:00:10Speaker 6: The twenty twenty Patriots with another coach, the Cam Newton
- 1:00:14Speaker 6: Patriots are a three win football team.
- 1:00:17Speaker 4: Like that team was horrible.
- 1:00:21Speaker 13: We're twenty twenty three, gentlemen and lady. Okay, he didn't
- 1:00:25Speaker 13: show you it yet, had Okay, look at you, look
- 1:00:27Speaker 13: at your look at your division. Your division got better
- 1:00:30Speaker 13: over the four seats, and look at your team.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: He went at eleven and six with that Castle as
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: the quarterback.
- 1:00:38Speaker 13: We got quarterback. We're going up against Josh Josh Allens,
- 1:00:43Speaker 13: Aaron Aaron Rodgers, and then you got two of that
- 1:00:46Speaker 13: we can't even beat by.
- 1:00:47Speaker 6: If you want to have with with build a GM,
- 1:00:51Speaker 6: I will. I will get in line with you, like
- 1:00:54Speaker 6: I got plenty of things to bring up with him
- 1:00:56Speaker 6: from a team building perspective. If you want to sit
- 1:00:59Speaker 6: here and talk X's nose, like come on, like what
- 1:01:03Speaker 6: are we doing like actually coaching a football team?
- 1:01:07Speaker 13: Okay, you say he's the greatest coach of all time.
- 1:01:10Speaker 13: If you so, if you're so great, why would you
- 1:01:12Speaker 13: put a defensive court.
- 1:01:13Speaker 6: Near that's different.
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: That that's not coaching.
- 1:01:16Speaker 6: That's different. That's not what I'm talking about.
- 1:01:18Speaker 3: That's not coaching.
- 1:01:19Speaker 6: I'm talking about game planning. I'm talking about coaching on
- 1:01:22Speaker 6: the practice field. It was a dumb decision, but that's
- 1:01:26Speaker 6: but those are two different it's two different things. It's
- 1:01:30Speaker 6: two different things.
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: William.
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: Now listen.
- 1:01:34Speaker 15: I mean, y'all know, that was the stupidest, dumbest we've.
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: All said it. Like we've all said it. We said
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: it when it was happening.
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: Yes, I I didn't say it at the time. I'll
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: admit it. At the time, I didn't say it.
- 1:01:53Speaker 13: Made it down to me. So I'm like, come on,
- 1:01:59Speaker 13: are we going on? We don't have all the time
- 1:02:02Speaker 13: in the world, Like what's going on?
- 1:02:06Speaker 3: I am, yeah, Well, Bill, it's gonna be a week
- 1:02:14Speaker 3: by week thing, William, and I hope you call in
- 1:02:17Speaker 3: every week and we talk about it.
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: You're not invited to the thank you.
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: I hope they win for William because he seems like
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: he's really.
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: I'm I'm with him like on like a lot of
- 1:02:28Speaker 6: the big picture things that I am worried about the
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: direction of the team from a roster building perspective because
- 1:02:33Speaker 6: I think his his views and when I say his,
- 1:02:36Speaker 6: I mean Bill's views on roster building are antiquated. Well,
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: I think I think they are.
- 1:02:40Speaker 3: But I think I think, you know, one of the
- 1:02:43Speaker 3: questions is where does head coaching stop and the other
- 1:02:47Speaker 3: jobs start? You know, so like so Bill, in Bill's case,
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: he's in charge of everything, right, so making that decision
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: to put Patricia in judge and those offensive positions obviously
- 1:03:00Speaker 3: was his choice.
- 1:03:01Speaker 6: Absolutely.
- 1:03:02Speaker 3: Is that part of being a head coach or is
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: that part of being the GM?
- 1:03:06Speaker 6: That's part of being the head coach. I think My
- 1:03:08Speaker 6: point though, is just that if you take all thirty
- 1:03:12Speaker 6: two coaches and you put them all on the whiteboard,
- 1:03:14Speaker 6: I'm taking Bill every single day. I am too, Like
- 1:03:17Speaker 6: every single day there's nobody that knows more about x's
- 1:03:21Speaker 6: and o's and how to break down film and how
- 1:03:24Speaker 6: to scout an opponent and how to game plan an opponent,
- 1:03:27Speaker 6: how to teach guys like we see him out there
- 1:03:29Speaker 6: on the practice field that at seventy years old, still
- 1:03:31Speaker 6: getting involved in positional drills like not even like eleven
- 1:03:36Speaker 6: on eleven, but just positional drills of you know, how
- 1:03:38Speaker 6: to hold the football, how to do like Kendrick Bourr
- 1:03:41Speaker 6: a couple of years ago, saying he doesn't fumble as
- 1:03:43Speaker 6: much anymore because of Bill Belichick, because of the drills
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: that they do during practice. I'll take all the the
- 1:03:48Speaker 6: micro stuff that Bill does any day of the week.
- 1:03:51Speaker 6: If you want to talk about patrician judge decisions or
- 1:03:55Speaker 6: roster decisions, then yeah, you have. You have legitimate gripes
- 1:03:59Speaker 6: with the way that he's on the team the last
- 1:04:00Speaker 6: couple of years.
- 1:04:01Speaker 3: Matthews in New Mexico. What's up, Matthew?
- 1:04:06Speaker 13: Hey, what's up?
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: Guys?
- 1:04:07Speaker 16: How are you doing good?
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: Are you a first time caller?
- 1:04:11Speaker 11: No, I've called before.
- 1:04:12Speaker 3: Uh okay.
- 1:04:13Speaker 16: I think last time it was about like the Mac Jones,
- 1:04:17Speaker 16: Bill Belichick trading Mac Jones. But I'm just calling. Like
- 1:04:20Speaker 16: when you guys say, like the number one defense, you know,
- 1:04:24Speaker 16: it's kind of just like the Bearers scored thirty points
- 1:04:28Speaker 16: on the Bible scored thirty points.
- 1:04:30Speaker 13: All these teams, and I agree with you say it.
- 1:04:33Speaker 13: I think I think Christian's going to make a big difference.
- 1:04:37Speaker 16: But I don't know, It's just it doesn't grinding my deers,
- 1:04:41Speaker 16: but grind my DearS.
- 1:04:42Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:04:43Speaker 3: I think I think last year's defense was okay, they
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: would challenge when they play the better offenses, There's no doubt.
- 1:04:49Speaker 3: And I think one of the problems was the secondary.
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: I think even with mccordy, they don't really have, you know,
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: the right cornerbacks in the right places, and hopefully this
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: year they do.
- 1:05:00Speaker 6: You know, the question I have just with that with
- 1:05:04Speaker 6: the whole defense thing, and I always go back to
- 1:05:06Speaker 6: this is more of an offense thing, but like, what
- 1:05:10Speaker 6: team didn't have issues against right the great offenses across
- 1:05:15Speaker 6: the Chicago's a fair one, and that one was I
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: think a much more matchup base to the fact that
- 1:05:21Speaker 6: their quarterback was more athletic than everybody on the field.
- 1:05:25Speaker 6: But when you talk about Buffalo Minnesota last year, with
- 1:05:28Speaker 6: the season that Justin nobody stopped Justin Jefferson. He was
- 1:05:31Speaker 6: the offensive player of the year. Like he nobody could
- 1:05:34Speaker 6: cover him. The guy had one of the best receiving
- 1:05:36Speaker 6: seasons in the NFL, probably since Moss and O seven,
- 1:05:39Speaker 6: like or Antonio Brown in his peak, like that was
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: an all time great receiver season. So I think what
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: it comes down to is that it's really really difficult
- 1:05:48Speaker 6: to be a great defense anymore, and it's really really
- 1:05:50Speaker 6: difficult to stop the relatives.
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: It's like a great defense in twenty twenty three is
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: not a great defense in you know, nineteen eighty six
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: or you know, even in the nineties.
- 1:06:01Speaker 16: And like they're hating on Bill, Like just Bill Skiming,
- 1:06:06Speaker 16: Just Bill Skiming.
- 1:06:06Speaker 17: That's the top twenty defense with horrible players to me.
- 1:06:11Speaker 16: But last thing I was gonna say, did.
- 1:06:13Speaker 13: You guys see what Kirk Curve streets about Mac?
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Yeah, thanks for the Carl Matthew.
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: I mean, he's really really high on Mac.
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: I haven't seen a lot to share that optimism so far.
- 1:06:29Speaker 5: From what I've seen, I could do. I could do
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: some on the defense all day. And I think you
- 1:06:32Speaker 5: guys are right. I think it's you know, situational. It's just,
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: you know, it's just the lack of you know, you've
- 1:06:36Speaker 5: had multiple games a chance to like get over the
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: hump against a playoff team, and that that's what's frustrating.
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: It's and and Evan's totally right. These are good offenses.
- 1:06:44Speaker 5: They don't you know, everybody, but at some point you
- 1:06:46Speaker 5: have to get that one key stop, you know, at
- 1:06:48Speaker 5: the end of the game to close it out. And
- 1:06:49Speaker 5: that's and that's I think against the good teams. What
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: they just they haven't been able to do their signature
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: win is you know.
- 1:06:54Speaker 4: Detroit and that. Okay, it's good. They were good offense,
- 1:06:57Speaker 4: no question, but it's not Buffalo Miami.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: All right, Well, Paul's foods here, so we're gonna take
- 1:07:03Speaker 3: an We'll be right back after this.

- 1:14:48Speaker 3: I put a bunchie cord over there.
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: But that doesn't take it that.
- 1:14:53Speaker 3: It doesn't. I just put a bunch of cord over
- 1:14:55Speaker 3: the lids. So the animals.
- 1:14:56Speaker 6: So Eric and I just like, wait until the morning
- 1:14:58Speaker 6: I wake up, take the barrel, push it out in
- 1:15:00Speaker 6: from the garage to the front.
- 1:15:02Speaker 4: And I know you might you might have a lot.
- 1:15:05Speaker 4: You have to take it on the grounds. So from
- 1:15:08Speaker 4: your house to the street is probably, But I also
- 1:15:11Speaker 4: have numbersome projects for me. It's like two inches. But
- 1:15:13Speaker 4: you know I don't have sandwich.
- 1:15:15Speaker 3: The sandwich TA get deliveries, yes, okay, right, so when
- 1:15:19Speaker 3: you get your deliver you immediately break down the box
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: when you get it, Yes, I know, yeah, I wait,
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: I wait until what I wait until trash night and
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: then I break down the box.
- 1:15:29Speaker 4: As it depends, like I'll take it. I'll take the
- 1:15:32Speaker 4: biggest box. No, it's not.
- 1:15:33Speaker 3: That's very efficient.
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: Off, I get it. Throw a lot of stuff in
- 1:15:37Speaker 4: that that bigger box. How long is it taking a
- 1:15:39Speaker 4: break the box?
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: It depends on how many deliveries.
- 1:15:41Speaker 6: I got no, but I mean like your average box
- 1:15:43Speaker 6: you take you get like a knife or a blade
- 1:15:45Speaker 6: or something.
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: It takes minutes, a couple of minutes.
- 1:15:48Speaker 4: It takes five seconds, five seconds.
- 1:15:51Speaker 16: What do you?
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: What are you?
- 1:15:54Speaker 4: Five seconds?
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: You cut that, you cut the break it down. You
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: gotta fold it up.
- 1:15:59Speaker 4: That doesn't take ten minutes. For I didn't say ten minutes.
- 1:16:02Speaker 3: Did I say ten minutes?
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: That's another great moment.
- 1:16:07Speaker 3: All right, those good conversations, all right. Eight five to
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: five past five hundred is the ace ticket hutline web
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: radio at patries dot com is the email address. It's Duce,
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: It's Alex, it's Evan, it's me, It's Matt and nabooth.
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: Catch twenty two is after this Johnny and matttown Where
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: that is? Says Willim, and Philim is right. He says
- 1:16:29Speaker 3: Bill is not as good a coach as you all
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: think he is. It's simple. He needed Brady to bail
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: him out for twenty years. There's a reason Brady has
- 1:16:37Speaker 3: the most fourth quarter comebacks of all time. He's the
- 1:16:39Speaker 3: goat period. Yes, he had good teams and good coaches,
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: some great like Bill, but Brady bailed us out. Bill
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: is no better than most other great coaches. He's no
- 1:16:49Speaker 3: longer the goat coach. He's the coach of the goat quarterback.
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: And even that's a stretch because Brady won without Bill.
- 1:16:57Speaker 3: Bill hasn't won without Tom. This is Bill's last year
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: period playoffs at the bare minimum, or he has to go.
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: It's Johnny in Madtown.
- 1:17:06Speaker 6: I guess his game plans for the greatest show on turf.
- 1:17:09Speaker 6: And you know the terman Thomas Bill's being in the
- 1:17:12Speaker 6: Hall of Fame means no.
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: Oh.
- 1:17:14Speaker 4: I also just I would just say what's special about
- 1:17:16Speaker 4: the Patriots or that they won for twenty years? And
- 1:17:19Speaker 4: if you want to tell me that Tom Brady not
- 1:17:21Speaker 4: including the Tampa super Bowl, but is six super bowls?
- 1:17:25Speaker 4: Four super bowls better than Peyton Manning?
- 1:17:27Speaker 5: Whatever it is, five super bowls better than any Like
- 1:17:30Speaker 5: something doesn't connect there, Like I think Tom Brady is
- 1:17:32Speaker 5: the greatest? Is he four super bowls better than Peyton Manning?
- 1:17:37Speaker 5: I think that there was something else to play there
- 1:17:39Speaker 5: rather than just Tom Brady being awesome and the an
- 1:17:42Speaker 5: idiot coach along for the ride, just hoping he doesn't
- 1:17:45Speaker 5: mess it up each season, Like there is something to
- 1:17:47Speaker 5: be said for the rosters that he turned over, some
- 1:17:50Speaker 5: hard decisions that he made.
- 1:17:52Speaker 4: But I also just like go back to, like what
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: do people think that we think do you think that
- 1:17:56Speaker 4: like we think built such a great coach that you
- 1:17:58Speaker 4: could put a bunch of pop warners out kids out
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: there and or they be competitive because he's the greatest coach.
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: There's a certain line of how much a coach can't.
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: Even Brady though said, while he's here, I'm just the quarterback.
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: I don't make those decisions. And he's right. You know,
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: there's twenty two other guys like that play on a
- 1:18:14Speaker 3: given you know, in a game and or you know
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: fifty three, and Bill had to be in charge of
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: all those guys, not just Tom Brady. You know, Tom
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: played quarterback and he played it better than any quarterback
- 1:18:26Speaker 3: has ever played it. But there's a hell of a
- 1:18:28Speaker 3: lot more to the game of football. That's why football
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: is such a great game, you know, because it's there's
- 1:18:35Speaker 3: so many moving pieces, and you know, that's just the
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: game itself. Forget about now having to deal with professionals
- 1:18:41Speaker 3: and contracts and egos and personalities and then winning and
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: entitlement and all that. That's what made Bill to me
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: just the greatest you know, all around coach GM ever
- 1:18:54Speaker 3: all of that, you know, I include the GM part
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: of it. It's you know, you're you're dealing with humans.
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: So it's hard to always draft the right guys and
- 1:19:03Speaker 3: always right and make the right moves because they're human beings.
- 1:19:05Speaker 3: But to do it consistently for twenty years at that
- 1:19:09Speaker 3: level with or without Tom Brady, I you know what
- 1:19:13Speaker 3: he did. It's just it's never been done before.
- 1:19:16Speaker 5: I just don't did anyone ever come out and say, like, well,
- 1:19:19Speaker 5: it was all Bill Belichick or oh, it was fifty
- 1:19:21Speaker 5: to fifty, Like, I don't know.
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: People were like, dude, we gotta remember when we went back,
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: there was there was a Bill was the reason, and
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: there was a Tom. There was a reason. And then
- 1:19:31Speaker 3: people in the middle said it was fifty to fifty.
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: But there were camps for both. Now that shifted Tom
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: left and won in Tampa. The Bill was the reason. People.
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: That's thinned out a little bit. You know, I'm still
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: they each made they they were each great, and they
- 1:19:48Speaker 3: made each other greater. You know, why do we have
- 1:19:51Speaker 3: to pick sides?
- 1:19:52Speaker 4: Well, it's just like the vitriol that's like directed towards
- 1:19:54Speaker 4: them now, I just you know, it's it's it's somewhat
- 1:19:57Speaker 4: like and I like everything we talked about, Like we
- 1:19:59Speaker 4: have our our problems with what he's done with the
- 1:20:02Speaker 4: team over the last few years.
- 1:20:03Speaker 3: But let me tell you something. If if Bill, for
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: if the Patriots had just kind of made the playoffs
- 1:20:08Speaker 3: the last couple of years and Brady went to Tampa
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: and they did nothing, I'm gonna tell you that you
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: would hear it from the other side too. They would
- 1:20:16Speaker 3: come out and they would feel emboldened right now for
- 1:20:20Speaker 3: as they should be. The Brady camp isn't bolden. They
- 1:20:23Speaker 3: were proven that this guy can win wherever he goes.
- 1:20:25Speaker 5: Yeah, and I mean they should, but you know, it's
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: just I guess for me, and you know, maybe there
- 1:20:29Speaker 5: was a degree of being naive towards it all.
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: But it's also just that Tom is on the field.
- 1:20:35Speaker 5: He's like, get the one who gets the football and
- 1:20:37Speaker 5: has to actually execute, Like Bill doesn't touch the field,
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: like he doesn't play. So like it's just like common
- 1:20:43Speaker 5: sense wise, you're not starting in a place from fifty
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: to fifty. You're talking, you know about an NFL you know,
- 1:20:48Speaker 5: head coach who is literally adored by anyone who's serious
- 1:20:52Speaker 5: football people like take like fans out of the occasion
- 1:20:55Speaker 5: who just want to see their team win. Like anytime
- 1:20:57Speaker 5: you see an NFL player of any kind of stature,
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: you know, in Bill Belichick's presence or talking the game
- 1:21:02Speaker 5: with him, you can see that the respect that they have,
- 1:21:04Speaker 5: you know, for him.
- 1:21:05Speaker 4: And I'm not saying that everyone has to.
- 1:21:07Speaker 5: Like it, but at the same time, it's like just
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: this absolute dismissiveness now where it's like caller after caller
- 1:21:13Speaker 5: lining up to tell us that it was all Tom Brady, Like, okay, great,
- 1:21:18Speaker 5: I'm not sitting here telling you it was all Bill Belichick,
- 1:21:20Speaker 5: but at least acknowledged that you had a really good
- 1:21:23Speaker 5: NFL coach who, guess what, is going to be one
- 1:21:25Speaker 5: of the greatest NFL coaches of.
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: All time forever, who's always going to be linked with
- 1:21:29Speaker 4: the Patriots.
- 1:21:29Speaker 5: And at some point, I just hope for some of
- 1:21:31Speaker 5: these people it can go back to a point of saying, hey,
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: it didn't go great, maybe at the end, and maybe
- 1:21:35Speaker 5: it was more Tom than Bill, but we had something
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: special going on and we were lucky to have an
- 1:21:39Speaker 5: NFL Hall of Fame, NFL coach who you know, is
- 1:21:42Speaker 5: universally respected by people within the game's you know, That's
- 1:21:45Speaker 5: just what just starts to frustrate me, is that's.
- 1:21:47Speaker 9: Why it's just such a simpleton thing to even debate,
- 1:21:51Speaker 9: Like we had a summer of that debate that was
- 1:21:54Speaker 9: just junk food of sports media feeding it to us
- 1:21:56Speaker 9: after Tom left, and.
- 1:21:58Speaker 8: For some reason it's just stuck. But it's like, it's
- 1:22:01Speaker 8: so simpleton. This is such a nuanced game. It's such
- 1:22:03Speaker 8: a nuanced conversation.
- 1:22:05Speaker 4: It's like forenty two guys out there, and I mean,
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: that's you know, and that's what you have a hand.
- 1:22:08Speaker 4: And then I like, in no way do I want
- 1:22:10Speaker 4: this to say like I'm trying to downplay Tom Brady,
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: Like what Tom Brady did in the clutch is like
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: generational in sports.
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: I mean that.
- 1:22:19Speaker 5: James right, And so we can go right through to
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: your point. We can go right through in every single
- 1:22:24Speaker 5: Super Bowl and say, yeah, Tom was Tom played.
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: I mean some were better than others.
- 1:22:28Speaker 5: Super Bowl, but you needed you needed other plays and
- 1:22:31Speaker 5: all those Super Bowls, you know, And and that isn't
- 1:22:34Speaker 5: going to go away.
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: L from Wisconsin, guys, I feel like every time people
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: talk about moving on from Bill, you always bring up
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: how great of a coach he is. You're right, he's
- 1:22:45Speaker 3: a great coach, But if they missed the playoffs again,
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: no matter how it looks, we need to think about
- 1:22:50Speaker 3: moving on. Maybe Bill. The GM plus Bill a coach
- 1:22:53Speaker 3: equals middling football team. At some point, the failings that
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: GM overshadows the greatness at coach.
- 1:22:59Speaker 9: It's like you to say that too, But like if
- 1:23:01Speaker 9: you're I mean, maybe I wouldn't be a great CEO
- 1:23:04Speaker 9: and president of a football team, But do you want to.
- 1:23:06Speaker 8: Be the person to fire Bill Belichick?
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: Because and that's.
- 1:23:12Speaker 9: Even if I felt it, even if I want it,
- 1:23:14Speaker 9: I think ideally it just kind of.
- 1:23:18Speaker 6: Like it just kind of fizzles out and everybody sort
- 1:23:21Speaker 6: of just agrees it's the best thing. But I think
- 1:23:23Speaker 6: that I try to remain somewhat patient because I do
- 1:23:30Speaker 6: think that it has to be said that the Patriots
- 1:23:34Speaker 6: were in are in a rebuild. They are rebuilding, and
- 1:23:39Speaker 6: that rebuild was not of moving on from the greatest
- 1:23:43Speaker 6: quarterback of all time, which was gonna happen whether they
- 1:23:46Speaker 6: did it when they did it or they did it
- 1:23:47Speaker 6: two years later. Like at some point Brady was going
- 1:23:49Speaker 6: to retire and it was gonna have to hit the
- 1:23:52Speaker 6: reset You were gonna have to hit the reset button.
- 1:23:54Speaker 6: And I yes, they are going into year four of
- 1:23:58Speaker 6: this rebuild. Now I count the Cam Newton year. I
- 1:24:01Speaker 6: don't know if Bill counts the Cam Newton year, but
- 1:24:03Speaker 6: I count the Cam Newton year. They're going into year
- 1:24:05Speaker 6: four of it, and now you do have to start
- 1:24:07Speaker 6: seeing some results. And we've talked a lot about some
- 1:24:10Speaker 6: of the young players that they've drafted over the last
- 1:24:12Speaker 6: couple of years that maybe can be a part of
- 1:24:15Speaker 6: that next generation. If that all flops on its head
- 1:24:18Speaker 6: and goes nowhere, then yeah, I'm starting to run out
- 1:24:22Speaker 6: of patients as well. But you have to recognize that
- 1:24:25Speaker 6: Rome wasn't built in a day, like I find me
- 1:24:28Speaker 6: a team other than like, you know, the Packers that
- 1:24:30Speaker 6: just lucked into moving on from Brett Favre right into
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: Aaron Rodgers, Like that doesn't normally happen in that seamless
- 1:24:37Speaker 6: of a transition. So you had to give it some
- 1:24:41Speaker 6: time to see if it's stuck. And yeah, now it
- 1:24:43Speaker 6: is getting to put put up or s up time.
- 1:24:46Speaker 6: Now I'm not doing it. I'm not doing it.
- 1:24:49Speaker 4: But it's like and that's and that's something that I
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: think I've rested over the last few years.
- 1:24:53Speaker 5: It's just like, what's reasonable, what's what's a reasonable expectation
- 1:24:57Speaker 5: for that? And certainly you have a higher expectation, because
- 1:25:00Speaker 5: do you have we have thrown so many bouquets of
- 1:25:02Speaker 5: flowers at you know, as a coach. But I think
- 1:25:05Speaker 5: you're totally right ivan to your point. It's you know,
- 1:25:06Speaker 5: and there's more to just being the GM. There's also
- 1:25:08Speaker 5: being the coach who develops the players. And if guys,
- 1:25:12Speaker 5: the young guys that I want aren't developing, then I'm
- 1:25:16Speaker 5: in that boat too. But I think you know that
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: that's where I start to pause, is all right, well,
- 1:25:19Speaker 5: what if some of these young guys this year start
- 1:25:22Speaker 5: to show something? What if you know, Mac Jones has
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: an outstanding year, you know where you say, I think
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: he's you know, he's better than two of for sure,
- 1:25:28Speaker 5: now like he's really you know, That's where it gets
- 1:25:31Speaker 5: murky for me, because we should.
- 1:25:33Speaker 4: Give amount of time. I don't know. Some people might
- 1:25:35Speaker 4: have said, you didn't get to the playoffs in twenty
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: twenty and you're out and that's it.
- 1:25:39Speaker 25: You know.
- 1:25:40Speaker 5: Other people probably would say, oh, he can go forever.
- 1:25:42Speaker 5: But for me, it's the young players. And if the
- 1:25:44Speaker 5: young players show no signs of development this year and
- 1:25:46Speaker 5: we feel like we're again on a talent devoid team
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: that doesn't really seem like it has pieces to build.
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: Around, then I'm with all the angry callers.
- 1:25:56Speaker 3: Yeah, would you say that in as opposed to like
- 1:26:00Speaker 3: the other three major sports in the United States, that
- 1:26:04Speaker 3: a rebuild in football has to be faster than the
- 1:26:07Speaker 3: others just because of length of career and contracts in
- 1:26:10Speaker 3: the NFL.
- 1:26:11Speaker 5: And so many positions though too. I mean it's you know,
- 1:26:13Speaker 5: it's easy in basketball and hockey. I mean, you could
- 1:26:16Speaker 5: get one key player and it really changes your franchise.
- 1:26:19Speaker 5: With football, you probably need at.
- 1:26:20Speaker 4: Least two or three and you have to hold on
- 1:26:23Speaker 4: to them, and you have to be able to pay
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: them and they will have to stay.
- 1:26:26Speaker 3: So I think it's a tough Without the quarterback, it's
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: a tough league to rebuild.
- 1:26:31Speaker 6: Right, And that was sort of my Aaron Rodgers' point
- 1:26:34Speaker 6: was like unless you luck into just falling into that
- 1:26:37Speaker 6: quarterback instantly in a rebuild, Like, let's look around the division,
- 1:26:42Speaker 6: Like the teams around the division are perpetually rebuilding because
- 1:26:46Speaker 6: they have it until really with Buffalo, I guess with
- 1:26:48Speaker 6: Josh Allen. But the Jets are putting a band aid
- 1:26:51Speaker 6: on their quarterback problem because Aaron Rodgers is forty years old,
- 1:26:54Speaker 6: So it's how long is that really going to last?
- 1:26:57Speaker 6: So in a couple of years the Jets will be
- 1:26:58Speaker 6: back looking for a quarterback all over again. They've now
- 1:27:01Speaker 6: drafted Mark Sanchez, Sam Darnold, and Zach Wilson and failed
- 1:27:05Speaker 6: three times at the quarterbacks in the top ten, not
- 1:27:09Speaker 6: you know, not even so you have to really think
- 1:27:11Speaker 6: about like this, this is this is it like welcome,
- 1:27:14Speaker 6: welcome to life in the NFL for everybody else. And
- 1:27:17Speaker 6: I think that that's like the one thing of patience
- 1:27:20Speaker 6: that I will have with Bill. The only thing that
- 1:27:23Speaker 6: I really have like a major gripe with him is
- 1:27:25Speaker 6: that I still think he operates from a roster building
- 1:27:28Speaker 6: perspective like he has Tom Brady, Like I'm just gonna
- 1:27:30Speaker 6: collect Juju Smith, Schuster and DeVante Parker, and you know,
- 1:27:34Speaker 6: I'm gonna fill out the middle class of the roster
- 1:27:36Speaker 6: and then we're gonna be strong on defense, and I'm
- 1:27:39Speaker 6: gonna coach everybody up on defense and we're gonna be
- 1:27:41Speaker 6: good there and all that kind of stuff. And offensively, well,
- 1:27:45Speaker 6: we have Tom Brady, so he's gonna put up thirty
- 1:27:47Speaker 6: a game. But the problem is they don't have Tom
- 1:27:49Speaker 6: Brady anymore. So now you have to really start to
- 1:27:52Speaker 6: change how you look at that side of the football.
- 1:27:54Speaker 6: And I don't really feel like he has. But as
- 1:27:57Speaker 6: somebody that watches film from everybody around the league, I
- 1:28:01Speaker 6: am taking Bill Belichick's defensive install over at thirty one
- 1:28:04Speaker 6: other teams. Like trust me when I tell you the
- 1:28:07Speaker 6: not only the diversity of the scheme, like the amount
- 1:28:09Speaker 6: of things that they have in their rolodecks, but just
- 1:28:12Speaker 6: like the foundation of it and how sound it is
- 1:28:15Speaker 6: and how positionally sound they are, Like how often do
- 1:28:18Speaker 6: I say it all the time? How often do we
- 1:28:19Speaker 6: call out like, oh, well they just busted that coverage,
- 1:28:22Speaker 6: Like why is that guy by himself for thirty? That
- 1:28:25Speaker 6: never happens. It never happens. And they are they're really
- 1:28:28Speaker 6: structurally sound. They have every single thing at their disposal.
- 1:28:32Speaker 6: They can play zone, they can play man, they can blitz,
- 1:28:34Speaker 6: they can back off, like they can do everything, and
- 1:28:37Speaker 6: they're really well coached on that side of the football.
- 1:28:39Speaker 6: But I thought, Douce to your point, about developing talent
- 1:28:42Speaker 6: is really important too, and we've touched on this, but
- 1:28:46Speaker 6: losing some of those assistant coaches over the years, and
- 1:28:49Speaker 6: all of the assistant coaching talent that's left, whether it's
- 1:28:52Speaker 6: been from retirement or just left with Josh McDaniels, you know,
- 1:28:56Speaker 6: including Josh McDaniels. But with Josh McDaniels, I think that
- 1:28:59Speaker 6: really is an undertold story. Like you get Dante Scarneki retires,
- 1:29:04Speaker 6: i'vean Fears retires. Josh McDaniels tastes the other seventy five
- 1:29:09Speaker 6: percent of the offensive coaching staff with him. To Vegas,
- 1:29:12Speaker 6: you got guys like you know that are on the
- 1:29:15Speaker 6: defensive side of the ball that are starting to get
- 1:29:17Speaker 6: some experience. But girod Mayo was a relatively young coach
- 1:29:21Speaker 6: a couple of years ago, and Steve was a your
- 1:29:23Speaker 6: relativety young coach a couple of years ago. And that
- 1:29:27Speaker 6: is part of it.
- 1:29:27Speaker 3: It is part of it, the brain drain. Josh and
- 1:29:30Speaker 3: Turner's false says, first off, the sweetest chef is the
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: greatest Muppets character.
- 1:29:35Speaker 5: That's that's a summer Muppets though, is that it is
- 1:29:38Speaker 5: there a delineation between Muppets, Oh, mats.
- 1:29:40Speaker 4: Give me the knowing No, Yeah, that's that's Muppets right.
- 1:29:43Speaker 6: I don't even know what that beaker. I wasn't the
- 1:29:46Speaker 6: big Muppets guy.
- 1:29:47Speaker 11: Uh.
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: Secondly, and I promised this would be the last time
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: I mentioned this player. If we don't get d hop,
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: which at this point I'm over it, it becomes it'll
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: be begrudgingly and I'm not positive that that's what the
- 1:30:00Speaker 3: team needs. Would you entertain Dalvin Cook? My reasoning is
- 1:30:03Speaker 3: that you guys have discussed the Patriots wanting to have
- 1:30:06Speaker 3: one back on one drive, different one on the next
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: one he can catch and run it. Teams wouldn't assume
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: one way or the other on a give and play
- 1:30:15Speaker 3: and keep Stevenson and Cook healthy in fresh week after week.
- 1:30:19Speaker 3: I like Strong and Harris, but if this is the
- 1:30:21Speaker 3: see what Mac and do season, I'd like to see
- 1:30:24Speaker 3: a dynamic ish player add it. And Thirdly, going to
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: my first training camp on the twenty eighth, any tips
- 1:30:30Speaker 3: or insights would be great.
- 1:30:32Speaker 4: Try to find some shade.
- 1:30:34Speaker 6: So we're actually doing tips and insights into training camp
- 1:30:37Speaker 6: next week. On Catch twenty two. Oh, if you listen
- 1:30:39Speaker 6: to Catch twenty two, we're gonna do a little playbook
- 1:30:41Speaker 6: of how to attend Patriots training camp.
- 1:30:44Speaker 5: So there's been some construction. Now they've taken some trees out,
- 1:30:47Speaker 5: I think, so there isn't the same valuable shade spots
- 1:30:50Speaker 5: on the side of that.
- 1:30:50Speaker 6: I would bring sunscreen, Yeah, sunscreen?
- 1:30:53Speaker 3: Why brimmed hat?
- 1:30:56Speaker 4: Dalvin Cook? I don't know. I guess. I just I'm
- 1:30:58Speaker 4: pulling out hope that they can just rely on the
- 1:31:01Speaker 4: two rookies from last year.
- 1:31:03Speaker 5: And I'm also like, yeah, he's a weapon, But I'm like,
- 1:31:05Speaker 5: I just I need passing game, get people that move
- 1:31:07Speaker 5: the needle, like you know, receiver. Like how much is
- 1:31:12Speaker 5: Dalvin Cook gonna change out the course of the Patriots
- 1:31:15Speaker 5: season with this roster currently? I just have trouble seeing
- 1:31:18Speaker 5: him being like, yeah, maybe he'll come in and be
- 1:31:20Speaker 5: a nice complimentary piece to remonderate, but are they gonna
- 1:31:23Speaker 5: take over games and be dominant?
- 1:31:25Speaker 4: I struggle to see that happen.
- 1:31:27Speaker 6: I'm with you that I don't know how much Dalvin
- 1:31:29Speaker 6: Cook necessarily moves the needle. But like, if I have
- 1:31:32Speaker 6: to have a consolation prize, would I rather have Dalvin
- 1:31:35Speaker 6: Cook or not have Devin Cook. I'll take Dalvin Cook,
- 1:31:38Speaker 6: I guess I think that if you're gonna be this
- 1:31:40Speaker 6: type of team that they're set up to be right now,
- 1:31:43Speaker 6: you might as well go all in on being like
- 1:31:45Speaker 6: a ball control, ground and pound offense with play action incorporated,
- 1:31:50Speaker 6: that plays good defense and tries to win with complimentary football.
- 1:31:53Speaker 6: Like that's the playbook that they're trying to follow, that's
- 1:31:56Speaker 6: the script that they're trying to follow, then it might
- 1:31:59Speaker 6: as well just if you're gonna do it, do.
- 1:32:01Speaker 12: It, do it.
- 1:32:01Speaker 9: Yeah, wouldn't it be so frustrating to see them address
- 1:32:04Speaker 9: like running backs as opposed to something in the secondary
- 1:32:06Speaker 9: or receiver.
- 1:32:07Speaker 6: Like I just yeah, I think other But like you
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: have to go back to like what's available right Like
- 1:32:12Speaker 6: Dalvin Cook is the best player outside of DeAndre Hopkins
- 1:32:16Speaker 6: that's on the available on the market. Like I would
- 1:32:18Speaker 6: love for them to use their cap space to sign
- 1:32:20Speaker 6: a tackle, but like what tackle is helping them right now?
- 1:32:24Speaker 6: That's available? So if out of all the players that
- 1:32:27Speaker 6: are out there, if it's can't be DeAndre Hopkins and
- 1:32:30Speaker 6: it has to be Dalvin Cook, I would at least
- 1:32:32Speaker 6: take Dalvin Cook.
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: Back to the phone, Seawnson, Vancouver, what's up, Sean?
- 1:32:37Speaker 17: I want to talk about Robert Kraft hopefully getting into
- 1:32:41Speaker 17: the Hall of Fame. Nice say he's eligible again, and
- 1:32:46Speaker 17: there's no owner more deserving.
- 1:32:48Speaker 13: He's the best owner in.
- 1:32:49Speaker 17: Professional sports history. You look at the Patriots where they
- 1:32:53Speaker 17: were before Robert Kraft. This team was a Patsy's. I
- 1:32:56Speaker 17: mean the problem with the sullivan didn't have the bankroll
- 1:33:00Speaker 17: to run an NFL franchise properly, and that's never been.
- 1:33:03Speaker 7: A problem with rolber Craft.
- 1:33:05Speaker 17: I mean, they lost players like Nick Vanaconnie because of
- 1:33:09Speaker 17: salary issues and union kind of aspirations. And there was
- 1:33:14Speaker 17: Russ Francis who they didn't pay him as bonus, so
- 1:33:17Speaker 17: he retired, and then they had to trade him and
- 1:33:20Speaker 17: Mike Mike Haynes. Also they had to trade to the
- 1:33:23Speaker 17: Raiders because they wouldn't pay one of the best cornerbacks
- 1:33:26Speaker 17: in the history of the game, Chuck Fairbanks, the coach
- 1:33:29Speaker 17: in the playoffs. They lost him because verneckt on the
- 1:33:34Speaker 17: contract for Stingley, who they definitely should have paid, even
- 1:33:37Speaker 17: though you know he was paralyzed. That was really shameful.
- 1:33:41Speaker 17: So you look at the Sullivans compared to where they went, no,
- 1:33:45Speaker 17: no brainer. And then if you look at what he's
- 1:33:48Speaker 17: done for the league. The NFL wasn't nearly where it
- 1:33:52Speaker 17: was prior to Robert Craft becoming an owner. And he's
- 1:33:56Speaker 17: really really helped the NFL become the dominant sports league
- 1:34:00Speaker 17: in North America, took over from baseball by leaps and bounds.
- 1:34:06Speaker 17: You know, you look at the television contracts, you look
- 1:34:10Speaker 17: at what he did bringing the players and the owners
- 1:34:14Speaker 17: together in terms of disputes, and and and him getting
- 1:34:18Speaker 17: over what most people would would never have gotten over
- 1:34:21Speaker 17: in terms of the insults that have been put upon
- 1:34:26Speaker 17: him by by the commissioner, who is not a great commissioner.
- 1:34:29Speaker 17: And and he's he's looked past that. He's done everything
- 1:34:32Speaker 17: for the league. He definitely should be in the Hall
- 1:34:34Speaker 17: of Fame. It's not like they're the Hallston doesn't have
- 1:34:38Speaker 17: owners in there already.
- 1:34:39Speaker 13: I mean you have Jerry Jones.
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: Oh listen, if you've got to put an owner, and
- 1:34:42Speaker 3: he's he should be next on the list.
- 1:34:45Speaker 17: That yeah, yeah, look at Tarles a bit well, he
- 1:34:48Speaker 17: owned the Cardinals from thirty three to fourty seven. That
- 1:34:50Speaker 17: was a terrible Everyone in Chicago went to Bears games.
- 1:34:53Speaker 17: No one went to Cardinals games. And then he dies,
- 1:34:56Speaker 17: and and so that's why he's in the Hall of Fame.
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: Yeah, you can't. Yes, So Robert Kraft is a semi
- 1:35:03Speaker 3: finalist uh and the contributor uh category. So let's let's hope.
- 1:35:10Speaker 6: Let's hope we gets also get the Steamer in places
- 1:35:13Speaker 6: Stanley Morgan.
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: Yes, both of them.
- 1:35:16Speaker 3: There's actually on that veteran list. There's there's some good players. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: there's a lot of good worthy players.
- 1:35:22Speaker 6: Yeah. I just I am in full, full agreement with
- 1:35:29Speaker 6: Sean about Robert Craft going into the Hall of Fame.
- 1:35:32Speaker 6: But if I if I could, if I could ask,
- 1:35:36Speaker 6: if I could ask him like a true serum question,
- 1:35:38Speaker 6: if I had one question, no hurt feelings whatsoever, that
- 1:35:42Speaker 6: I could ask him, I would just ask him, like,
- 1:35:45Speaker 6: what's his take on the real cash spending argument? And
- 1:35:47Speaker 6: I don't care about it necessarily, but I'm just like
- 1:35:50Speaker 6: curious about, like what's the what is it? Because he
- 1:35:54Speaker 6: wants to win more than anybody else. I know that,
- 1:35:57Speaker 6: and I know that he knows how to build a
- 1:35:58Speaker 6: winning franchise. But I'm genuinely curious, like what what's like
- 1:36:03Speaker 6: the disconnect there? Then, you know, like because Bill says
- 1:36:06Speaker 6: it like I'm not saying it from my point of view,
- 1:36:08Speaker 6: like your head coach is telling the media, is pointing
- 1:36:12Speaker 6: out to the media that you're exit in real cash
- 1:36:14Speaker 6: spending as a kind of like a feather in his cap,
- 1:36:17Speaker 6: Like I built this roster without spending a ton of money.
- 1:36:20Speaker 6: And I don't think that there's a budget. I don't.
- 1:36:24Speaker 6: I don't think that because I just I can't imagine
- 1:36:26Speaker 6: that that would be the case. I mean, obviously there's
- 1:36:28Speaker 6: a budget, but you know what I'm saying, like, I
- 1:36:29Speaker 6: don't think that he's there, they're really doing that. I
- 1:36:32Speaker 6: just I'm genuinely curious, Like it's not it's nothing to
- 1:36:36Speaker 6: do with this Hall of Fame candidacy. I'm not saying
- 1:36:38Speaker 6: that he doesn't deserve to be in, but.
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: Especially when he comes out with you know, spending money
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: on players is never going to be an issue. Yeah,
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: you know, so what does that mean?
- 1:36:48Speaker 5: I mean again, I would feel bad if there were
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: players that I felt they should have been spending on
- 1:36:52Speaker 5: that they didn't. And you know, I mean right now,
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: it's like I'd love them to extend somebody, but who
- 1:36:58Speaker 5: do you really feel, like, you know that money has
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: to go to, So I just want the problem.
- 1:37:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, Robert Craft does not want to just
- 1:37:07Speaker 3: waste money. You know, like everything has to have a
- 1:37:11Speaker 3: value and you know, a true value put to it.
- 1:37:14Speaker 3: And you know, so he's not there, He's not here
- 1:37:17Speaker 3: to waste money. But I think in today's market sometimes
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: you got to extend a little bit well, you know,
- 1:37:23Speaker 3: and this could be you know, the Hopkins thing could
- 1:37:26Speaker 3: be one of those cases where just give them a
- 1:37:28Speaker 3: little action, you know.
- 1:37:29Speaker 4: But there's a lot that goes intoto it.
- 1:37:30Speaker 5: I mean, I know Bill brought up getting paid nothing
- 1:37:33Speaker 5: isn't a low level assistant, and I think that that's
- 1:37:35Speaker 5: probably still you know, a practice that that happens. And
- 1:37:38Speaker 5: so I mean, I think some of it is tied
- 1:37:40Speaker 5: to some of that old school kind of stuff that
- 1:37:42Speaker 5: you know, this is kind of how it is. This
- 1:37:44Speaker 5: is how you earn your stripes. I mean, it builds
- 1:37:46Speaker 5: an economics major at Wesleyan. So I'm sure that you know,
- 1:37:48Speaker 5: there is you know, some strategic thinking into it as well.
- 1:37:52Speaker 4: But I don't know when.
- 1:37:52Speaker 5: They've had the really good players, the players that you
- 1:37:54Speaker 5: really how many times over twenty years did you feel
- 1:37:56Speaker 5: like you lost a player because they just didn't want
- 1:37:59Speaker 5: to pay him and and and if you just paid him,
- 1:38:00Speaker 5: it would have worked out. I mean, I don't think
- 1:38:02Speaker 5: that there are a lot of those examples. You know,
- 1:38:04Speaker 5: you're able to hang on to Brady the whole time.
- 1:38:06Speaker 6: You're able to hang There's also zero correlation between real
- 1:38:08Speaker 6: cash spending and wins, Like the teams that spend the
- 1:38:11Speaker 6: most don't. It doesn't mean that you're automatically going to win.
- 1:38:14Speaker 6: They will point to that.
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: They will point to that, you know, right, And I
- 1:38:18Speaker 3: think you know, I've talked about it before, this that
- 1:38:20Speaker 3: locker room structure. You know, sure the pecking order is
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: part of it too, and not disrupting that.
- 1:38:27Speaker 4: And you know, but I hate to keep going back
- 1:38:30Speaker 4: to this point. But again, like when does money become.
- 1:38:33Speaker 5: A factor with a football team when you have to
- 1:38:35Speaker 5: go to free agency or you have to retain your players, Like,
- 1:38:37Speaker 5: that's when money becomes a factor. If you draft well,
- 1:38:40Speaker 5: if you draft stars, if you draft consistently, it matters
- 1:38:43Speaker 5: a whole lot less about what your concerns about money are,
- 1:38:46Speaker 5: how much you do or don't want to spend, because
- 1:38:48Speaker 5: you can either a keep the guy or you have
- 1:38:50Speaker 5: confidence in your program that you're going to draft and
- 1:38:53Speaker 5: develop another guy.
- 1:38:54Speaker 4: You know, to replace him.
- 1:38:55Speaker 5: I mean, I think the Steelers are a good example
- 1:38:56Speaker 5: of a team that you know, certainly in specific position
- 1:38:59Speaker 5: groups have you know, done a good job of maintaining
- 1:39:02Speaker 5: kind of a high level.
- 1:39:03Speaker 4: Of of of performance.
- 1:39:04Speaker 5: And all the prayers that were there and left and
- 1:39:07Speaker 5: you know, Dhan Brown, Juju Smith, Schuster, guys that are
- 1:39:10Speaker 5: there productive, they lose them and they are able to
- 1:39:12Speaker 5: replace them. So all that money stuff goes out out
- 1:39:14Speaker 5: the window if you're able to draft consistently.
- 1:39:17Speaker 6: Just like why I I wholeheartedly believe that when Bill
- 1:39:22Speaker 6: goes to mister Craft and says, like we want to
- 1:39:25Speaker 6: pay DeAndre Hopkins fifteen million dollars, like can you can
- 1:39:28Speaker 6: you write? Can you write the check please? I do
- 1:39:31Speaker 6: not think mister Craft is saying ever. So to me,
- 1:39:36Speaker 6: it's like then it's Bill, right, Like it's Bill that
- 1:39:39Speaker 6: that is trying to, you know, kind of to friend's
- 1:39:43Speaker 6: point about like the hierarchy and like, you know, the
- 1:39:45Speaker 6: structure a certain way and at what point is that
- 1:39:49Speaker 6: not the best way? Right? So I don't know, I
- 1:39:51Speaker 6: just see one one.
- 1:39:53Speaker 3: It's a tricky There's one word that Bill feels really important.
- 1:39:57Speaker 3: It's loyalty. Like he's very loyal to those who are
- 1:40:00Speaker 3: loyal to him. And so you bring in a player
- 1:40:04Speaker 3: and you give him a certain amount of money, and
- 1:40:07Speaker 3: you know, he falls into a certain slot, and it's
- 1:40:10Speaker 3: almost like disloyal if you bring in this guy at
- 1:40:12Speaker 3: the last minute and all of a sudden he leaped
- 1:40:14Speaker 3: frogs above everybody.
- 1:40:16Speaker 14: You know.
- 1:40:16Speaker 3: I do think that whole thing of the perception of
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: those that you know are under him is important to him.
- 1:40:25Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, and we saw with Devonte Parker, all
- 1:40:28Speaker 6: these rumors come out about DeAndre Hopkins and the next
- 1:40:30Speaker 6: week they are paying DeVante Parker. Yeah, so I definitely
- 1:40:35Speaker 6: think it is a fact.
- 1:40:35Speaker 3: I think I think loyalty has always been a big,
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: big thing for him.
- 1:40:40Speaker 5: But you just wonder how much it's going to get
- 1:40:42Speaker 5: him in trouble and like the Patricia thing, and I'm yeah,
- 1:40:45Speaker 5: they got.
- 1:40:45Speaker 9: Him in trouble last year. Yeah, loyalty is probably why
- 1:40:48Speaker 9: no one else was brought in.
- 1:40:49Speaker 5: I would love, you know, evan truth to him if
- 1:40:51Speaker 5: I could borrow some and give it to mapatus. I
- 1:40:53Speaker 5: just love to know what he thought about last season,
- 1:40:55Speaker 5: what he you know, what he thought was put on
- 1:40:56Speaker 5: his plate?
- 1:40:57Speaker 4: How is it was explained to him?
- 1:40:59Speaker 5: You know, does he feel like he was treated fairly?
- 1:41:01Speaker 5: Was he hung out to dry? Like you know, I
- 1:41:03Speaker 5: just he got put in such a tough position.
- 1:41:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it is, and I'm sure like he feels like
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: if things and it's different, he could have succeeded, you know,
- 1:41:12Speaker 3: like did.
- 1:41:12Speaker 4: He want to leave? Did they want to leave? You
- 1:41:14Speaker 4: want to go somewhere else?
- 1:41:15Speaker 3: But you know, those are that's the kind of thing
- 1:41:17Speaker 3: where in football, like if you don't if you sound
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: like you don't know what you're talking about right away,
- 1:41:23Speaker 3: these players they're like dogs. They're like they're not going
- 1:41:26Speaker 3: to follow you if you're not if you don't instill
- 1:41:29Speaker 3: confidence in them that you know what you're talking about,
- 1:41:32Speaker 3: they don't have time for that.
- 1:41:33Speaker 12: You know.
- 1:41:34Speaker 3: It's like, don't f with my career.
- 1:41:36Speaker 21: You know.
- 1:41:37Speaker 6: That's certainly how the quarterback felt.
- 1:41:38Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, you're you're effing with my money, you know.
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: And too it's I mean it's also do you want
- 1:41:44Speaker 5: to have the perception of every shiny thing that comes
- 1:41:47Speaker 5: along you're going to throw a big bunch of money
- 1:41:49Speaker 5: at And I mean I think that that you know
- 1:41:51Speaker 5: as much as like you said, Fred the power structure,
- 1:41:53Speaker 5: But it's it's Daniel Snyder back when he first bought
- 1:41:55Speaker 5: the you know, he that's what they did and they
- 1:41:58Speaker 5: won nothing.
- 1:42:00Speaker 3: You know, so it doesn't always work. You need the
- 1:42:04Speaker 3: great coach, you need the quarterback.
- 1:42:06Speaker 4: You know, it's some magic. You need some bouncers to
- 1:42:08Speaker 4: go your way. Yeah, that's like another part of it.
- 1:42:10Speaker 3: That Christian in LA. What's up? Christian? Turn down the Internet?
- 1:42:16Speaker 15: Christian the core part, get m tires scene hear me? Okay, yeah,
- 1:42:25Speaker 15: So I'm going to try to add something to this
- 1:42:27Speaker 15: great debate about Tom Brady's importance to the success of
- 1:42:32Speaker 15: the franchise as opposed to Bill Belichick. I think people
- 1:42:35Speaker 15: are missing the fact that what Tom Brady had to
- 1:42:39Speaker 15: be good at was about two or three things. Reading defenses,
- 1:42:44Speaker 15: players in a position to catch the ball and run,
- 1:42:46Speaker 15: keeping his body intact, and maybe being friendly around the
- 1:42:48Speaker 15: locker room. What Bill Belichick needed to be good great
- 1:42:52Speaker 15: at was developing players, developing towns, developing coaches, maintaining all
- 1:42:57Speaker 15: three of those, keeping a a defensive scheme that was
- 1:43:02Speaker 15: ever evolving and amongst the best of all time as
- 1:43:05Speaker 15: far as his schemes going. Being the CEO of a
- 1:43:08Speaker 15: billion dollar franchise, managing the media, oh, and every single
- 1:43:12Speaker 15: ego of you know, young millionaires in the locker room.
- 1:43:17Speaker 15: But when you take a look at what Tom had
- 1:43:19Speaker 15: to be great at and what Bill had to be
- 1:43:21Speaker 15: great at, there's no comparison. Sure, Tom was the greatest
- 1:43:24Speaker 15: quarterback in the world at reading defenses and throwing the
- 1:43:28Speaker 15: ball to guys in places he positioned them to be at.
- 1:43:31Speaker 15: But in the immortal words of a woman that I
- 1:43:33Speaker 15: don't like to quote, but I will in this specific instance,
- 1:43:37Speaker 15: until Tom Brady started throwing and catching the ball at
- 1:43:40Speaker 15: the same time, everybody else was what he relied on,
- 1:43:43Speaker 15: and everybody else was put on that team, developed and
- 1:43:46Speaker 15: kept on that team.
- 1:43:47Speaker 11: By Bill Belichick.
- 1:43:49Speaker 15: I'll leave you with this analogy. It's like, there's this
- 1:43:52Speaker 15: great family that's the ideal families. Mom's doing great, Dad's
- 1:43:56Speaker 15: doing great the case, they're all getting good grades, delivering
- 1:43:57Speaker 15: a million dollar home. Mom leaves that family, and everyone thinks, well,
- 1:44:01Speaker 15: the mother is the.
- 1:44:03Speaker 13: Core of a family.
- 1:44:04Speaker 15: When he leaves, the famous going to get chaotic. Sure
- 1:44:07Speaker 15: mom went to a better husband with a better and
- 1:44:11Speaker 15: bigger house and did well, that's expected. What got left
- 1:44:15Speaker 15: behind was Dad and the kids. Dad managed to get
- 1:44:18Speaker 15: the kid B's and be pluses. I don't think there's
- 1:44:21Speaker 15: anyone in the world that would say that family's not
- 1:44:23Speaker 15: still doing great. Tom Brady didn't go to a team
- 1:44:26Speaker 15: that didn't have good players, didn't have a great defense,
- 1:44:29Speaker 15: and didn't have a good coaching, and didn't have a
- 1:44:31Speaker 15: good organization. He went to a team that had great defense,
- 1:44:35Speaker 15: even better offensive weapons, a coach that was just as
- 1:44:39Speaker 15: good or renowned just as much as Bill Belichick, and
- 1:44:43Speaker 15: an organization that was willing to bend over back was
- 1:44:45Speaker 15: to do exactly what Tom Brady needed to continue his greatness. Yeah,
- 1:44:50Speaker 15: so when you come down to what it took to
- 1:44:53Speaker 15: make the organization great, when you look at what happened
- 1:44:57Speaker 15: even over the last four years, I think most franchise
- 1:45:00Speaker 15: will take two playoffs in four years, but most of
- 1:45:03Speaker 15: them that's more than their franchisers have accomplished in decades.
- 1:45:07Speaker 15: A team like Dallas, a team like the Vikings. So
- 1:45:10Speaker 15: layoff of what what what you're saying Bill Belichick hasn't
- 1:45:13Speaker 15: done since Tom left, and what Tom has done since
- 1:45:16Speaker 15: he left going to a better team with more offensive.
- 1:45:18Speaker 3: Well, thanks, I'll push back a little bit about Brady
- 1:45:22Speaker 3: going to Tampa. If you recall that year before Tampa
- 1:45:25Speaker 3: had underperformed. Their culture was a mess, and one of
- 1:45:29Speaker 3: the things that Brady did right away was he came
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: in as the alpha dog and he changed that culture.
- 1:45:35Speaker 3: And Bruce arians even admitted it, he's the head coach
- 1:45:39Speaker 3: that he changed our culture.
- 1:45:41Speaker 14: You know.
- 1:45:41Speaker 3: So you've got to give Brady credit for that too,
- 1:45:44Speaker 3: because that that team, with pretty much the same cast
- 1:45:47Speaker 3: of characters had underperformed the year before.
- 1:45:51Speaker 4: You know, so COVID helped too.
- 1:45:53Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, Bill, I kind of like the analogy though
- 1:45:58Speaker 6: I was following it was there's a.
- 1:46:03Speaker 9: Tom left our dad for a richerd guy.
- 1:46:06Speaker 8: It's very simple.
- 1:46:08Speaker 6: Well he did the sandwich l so it's cool.
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: Well, if the kids could play football, then we would
- 1:46:12Speaker 4: have been we would have been better.
- 1:46:14Speaker 3: Amir from Israel says regarding the bi weekly rant from
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: William in company. Like Evan said, welcome to the rest
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: of the NFL. The things you blame Bill on are
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: not exclusive to the Patriots. Can't draft receivers. How many
- 1:46:28Speaker 3: good receivers have the Ravens drafted recently? Issues with the
- 1:46:31Speaker 3: O line. I watched a lot of football last year.
- 1:46:34Speaker 3: I think eighty percent of the teams have O line issues,
- 1:46:37Speaker 3: The offense is missing weapons. Take the Bills offense, remove
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: digs and you will uh and and will you like
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: to make a switch with their wide receivers, their tight
- 1:46:46Speaker 3: ends running back. It all boils down to having the
- 1:46:49Speaker 3: franchise quarterback, which are extremely hard to find. Until you
- 1:46:53Speaker 3: find a true game change of quarterback, you won't be great.
- 1:46:56Speaker 6: So the pushback that I'll have on that is that
- 1:46:59Speaker 6: I think you can do it without the franchise quarterback,
- 1:47:02Speaker 6: but you can't do it the way they're doing it
- 1:47:03Speaker 6: without the franchise quarterback because San Francisco is in a
- 1:47:07Speaker 6: super Bowl and then was Brock Party injury away from
- 1:47:10Speaker 6: maybe being in another Super Bowl without with Jimmy Garoppolo and.
- 1:47:14Speaker 4: Brock Party right, and elite scheme and weapons.
- 1:47:17Speaker 6: Yeah, elite scheme and weapons, And yes, I think that
- 1:47:20Speaker 6: the easiest path is certainly by landing Patrick Mahomes. Like
- 1:47:24Speaker 6: if you get Patrick Mahomes and everything else can just
- 1:47:27Speaker 6: be what it is, and it's definitely the easiest way
- 1:47:29Speaker 6: to go about it. But you can you can be
- 1:47:32Speaker 6: a Super Bowl contender without Patrick Mahomes. You just need
- 1:47:36Speaker 6: to build the roster up around him and and San
- 1:47:39Speaker 6: Francisco has been doing that for what going on four
- 1:47:42Speaker 6: or five years now. So they're a team that I
- 1:47:45Speaker 6: always use as an example, Like even the Eagles team
- 1:47:47Speaker 6: of the Patriots last year, Nick Foles takes over for
- 1:47:49Speaker 6: Carson Wentz and they still win the Super Bowl. Like
- 1:47:51Speaker 6: those are those are teams that did it without having
- 1:47:55Speaker 6: Tom Brady, Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow.
- 1:47:57Speaker 4: Even so you think it's more Patrick Mahomes Andy Reid.
- 1:48:00Speaker 4: Is that what he's trying to say. I don't know
- 1:48:03Speaker 4: have we gotten to that point in the Chiefs yet,
- 1:48:04Speaker 4: but I think you have to carry each other apart
- 1:48:06Speaker 4: trying to figure out who. You have to pick a road.
- 1:48:08Speaker 8: I haven't even broken up yet.
- 1:48:09Speaker 6: You have to pick a road if you're gonna have
- 1:48:11Speaker 6: the if you're gonna have the Brock Parties and the
- 1:48:12Speaker 6: Jimmy Garoppolos the world.
- 1:48:14Speaker 5: At quarterback, Go get Christian McCaffrey, right, You got to
- 1:48:16Speaker 5: make sure that they have everything around him.
- 1:48:18Speaker 4: Yeah, which is I guess a point for your Dalvin
- 1:48:20Speaker 4: Cook argument.
- 1:48:21Speaker 3: Neil says, Grover is the greatest, is very sweet.
- 1:48:25Speaker 22: I like Grover.
- 1:48:26Speaker 4: That's one.
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: Let's go to Gerald in Las Vegas. What's up Gerald?
- 1:48:32Speaker 13: Hey, guys, I was just.
- 1:48:35Speaker 26: When it comes down to the whole Patriots and Tom
- 1:48:38Speaker 26: versus build.
- 1:48:39Speaker 11: Thing, I see it this way.
- 1:48:41Speaker 14: If it wentn't for Bill.
- 1:48:42Speaker 13: Drafting Tom and given Tom the opportunity, you would never
- 1:48:45Speaker 13: know if Tom it would be become as successful as
- 1:48:48Speaker 13: it was.
- 1:48:50Speaker 26: And that's and then the whole DeAndre.
- 1:48:52Speaker 13: Hopkins thing, I'm with it. If they get them they not,
- 1:48:56Speaker 13: I'm okay what we got. It's just time to put
- 1:48:59Speaker 13: up and show up everybody that we can actually play
- 1:49:02Speaker 13: football this year.
- 1:49:03Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, ye, well I do, I mean I do
- 1:49:06Speaker 5: think that that's you know, and it's such a layered
- 1:49:08Speaker 5: thing and we break it down into sports radio. But
- 1:49:10Speaker 5: you know the fact that that Tom I mean I
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: picked fine. I mean any team could have picked him
- 1:49:15Speaker 5: through six rounds basically. But the access that Tom Brady
- 1:49:19Speaker 5: had to.
- 1:49:19Speaker 4: Bill Belichick's mind of the game and you know how
- 1:49:21Speaker 4: Bill Belichick's's defenses and you know, having weekly Tuesday meetings
- 1:49:26Speaker 4: with a coach who has seen everything there is to
- 1:49:28Speaker 4: see in the league. Like, you can't tell me that
- 1:49:31Speaker 4: that wasn't a huge part in making Tom Brady who
- 1:49:34Speaker 4: he was.
- 1:49:34Speaker 5: Not to take anything away from Tom Brady again, I
- 1:49:38Speaker 5: always have to well, you just but you know, like
- 1:49:41Speaker 5: what he did in the clutch, like that's not Bill.
- 1:49:43Speaker 5: I mean some of the preparation is like he knows
- 1:49:45Speaker 5: what's coming, he knows, you know, he feels prepared to
- 1:49:47Speaker 5: deliver in the clutch. But you know, those things are
- 1:49:50Speaker 5: those things are unique to him as well as is
- 1:49:52Speaker 5: you know, just undeniable work.
- 1:49:53Speaker 4: Ethleic that the guy is absolutely psychopath when it comes
- 1:49:57Speaker 4: to training for football, and that's you know a big
- 1:49:58Speaker 4: part of it too.
- 1:49:59Speaker 6: I think one of the more like balls decisions in
- 1:50:01Speaker 6: NFL history was picking Tom over Drew Bledsoe, Like when
- 1:50:05Speaker 6: you really think about that, like picking a six round
- 1:50:08Speaker 6: quarterback that couldn't even really start for his college team
- 1:50:12Speaker 6: over a number former number one overall picker you just
- 1:50:15Speaker 6: handed a huge contract to and all these types of things.
- 1:50:18Speaker 6: It was at that point Drew was by far the
- 1:50:20Speaker 6: best quarterback in Patriots history. Like I had no offense
- 1:50:23Speaker 6: to see Grogan, but like I think that that's like
- 1:50:25Speaker 6: not an argument, and he had to wear withal to
- 1:50:30Speaker 6: stick to his guns and trust his eyes.
- 1:50:32Speaker 3: But I think at that point it was an easy decision.
- 1:50:35Speaker 4: They were on a roll, right, Like you're saying, middle
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: of the season.
- 1:50:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean they were they were going to be
- 1:50:40Speaker 3: zero and two with both and they had been terrible
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: the year before, and I know they had a terrible roster,
- 1:50:47Speaker 3: but there was something happening with Brady. And what Bill
- 1:50:51Speaker 3: sees that we don't see is how the practices were
- 1:50:54Speaker 3: going and how the other players were reacting.
- 1:50:57Speaker 6: Well, that's why if I would love to ask Bill, like,
- 1:51:00Speaker 6: what was your moment where it was like, all right,
- 1:51:02Speaker 6: Tom Brady is the guy, because like, did it come
- 1:51:04Speaker 6: down to like the final drive in the Super Bowl
- 1:51:06Speaker 6: when he put him in field goal ranger? Then he
- 1:51:08Speaker 6: was like, well now he can't go back, like you know,
- 1:51:10Speaker 6: because what was the moment?
- 1:51:12Speaker 5: I mean, an interesting a quote that I dug up
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: when I did that the two thousand and one podcast
- 1:51:16Speaker 5: was Bill himself saying that we had real quarterback problems
- 1:51:19Speaker 5: in camp, Like in camp they were unhappy with Bloodsoe
- 1:51:22Speaker 5: and how it was going.
- 1:51:23Speaker 4: And I mean I think that was right into the
- 1:51:25Speaker 4: first game.
- 1:51:25Speaker 5: I mean, they're going against that Jets team they can't
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: even move the ball or score on any points before
- 1:51:30Speaker 5: Blood Sell. But I mean I totally live your point though,
- 1:51:33Speaker 5: And I mean it's always interesting to me to hear
- 1:51:34Speaker 5: from Paul who started as a Drew Bloodsoe super fan
- 1:51:37Speaker 5: and then came into this job. And you know, even
- 1:51:39Speaker 5: he was on board with that switch by the time
- 1:51:42Speaker 5: it happened, which we know he's you know, pretty stubborn.
- 1:51:44Speaker 5: It has to you know, it'd have to be real
- 1:51:46Speaker 5: for him to make that switch.
- 1:51:47Speaker 4: And he did.
- 1:51:48Speaker 5: But growing up here, when bloodso came it was like
- 1:51:51Speaker 5: the Patriots came alive, and you know that it's it
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: still is.
- 1:51:55Speaker 4: I mean, I totally see what you're.
- 1:51:56Speaker 5: Saying though about just how how do you go from
- 1:51:59Speaker 5: a ten year, one undred million dollar contract to like,
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: you know, seven months later you're.
- 1:52:03Speaker 3: Probably I think, frankly, I think the decision to go
- 1:52:06Speaker 3: from Cozar to Testa Verdi was a tougher decision than
- 1:52:09Speaker 3: it was to go at that time from Bloodsoe to Brady.
- 1:52:13Speaker 5: I mean, it's it's creed point though, it's just it's inescapable.
- 1:52:16Speaker 5: I think about Josh McDaniels too, having to make similar
- 1:52:18Speaker 5: kind of decisions where you have a quarterback and you
- 1:52:20Speaker 5: don't I mean, to Evan's point, it's it's hard and
- 1:52:22Speaker 5: there's no really like easy answers. Usually, like even the
- 1:52:26Speaker 5: decision to stick with Brady could have been he could
- 1:52:28Speaker 5: have been a flash in the pan and you said,
- 1:52:29Speaker 5: Drew to the Bills and all of a sudden, the
- 1:52:31Speaker 5: Patriots are getting camera by the Bills, like just go.
- 1:52:33Speaker 3: After the super Bowl and the Patriots extended him. People
- 1:52:36Speaker 3: were still like a little.
- 1:52:38Speaker 5: Too early for that, you know, through like one touchdown
- 1:52:41Speaker 5: pass in the playoff, you know, like I mean, you
- 1:52:43Speaker 5: could if you wanted to highlight it the right way
- 1:52:45Speaker 5: with that playoff run, you could probably talk yourself.
- 1:52:47Speaker 6: And I just feel like it would have been, in
- 1:52:49Speaker 6: my eyes, like the easier decision would have been sticking
- 1:52:51Speaker 6: with Drew because he was the proven again, right and
- 1:52:57Speaker 6: so to have to have the guts to stick to
- 1:53:00Speaker 6: it and stick to the path. And I'd also just say,
- 1:53:02Speaker 6: you know, like my opinion on on Belichick's hand in
- 1:53:07Speaker 6: Brady's development, uh really changed when you hear Brady talk
- 1:53:11Speaker 6: about it and about what you know, he was on
- 1:53:14Speaker 6: something recently where he started tearing up, like talking about
- 1:53:17Speaker 6: like what Bill early in the early years. He always
- 1:53:20Speaker 6: references the early years. He doesn't really talk too much.
- 1:53:22Speaker 4: About the because then he was probably on his own program.
- 1:53:24Speaker 6: Yeah, Yeah, but the early years you know, just talking
- 1:53:27Speaker 6: about how he had like this like mister Miagi character
- 1:53:31Speaker 6: who just like took him under the wing and showed
- 1:53:34Speaker 6: him every single thing like how to be an NFL quarterback.
- 1:53:37Speaker 6: And and Tommy obviously took it from there and and
- 1:53:40Speaker 6: made it made it what it was. But I think
- 1:53:43Speaker 6: if the man himself is telling you how much Bill
- 1:53:45Speaker 6: meant to his development, then he got it to.
- 1:53:47Speaker 4: You know, that's not how I see.
- 1:53:50Speaker 5: But you know, what I was just saying is tie
- 1:53:52Speaker 5: it though back to you know what you're saying earlier
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: about Bill's kind of philosophy of team building, and you
- 1:53:57Speaker 5: look at the difference between the quarterback that Drew Bledsoe
- 1:54:00Speaker 5: was in the quarterback that Tom Brady was, and I
- 1:54:02Speaker 5: think when you look at it kind of through the
- 1:54:04Speaker 5: lens of what you talked about of his philosophies of
- 1:54:06Speaker 5: team building, we have a tall, immobile quarterback who certainly
- 1:54:10Speaker 5: has a great arm, but is not always going to
- 1:54:12Speaker 5: make the best decisions and it's going to probably be
- 1:54:14Speaker 5: bombs away and it's going to be hit or miss
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: or I got this other guy who you know, he's
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: a six round pick. He's always going to kind of
- 1:54:21Speaker 5: be a little bit wide eyed about being a six
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: round pick, and he makes the right decisions and he
- 1:54:24Speaker 5: gets the ball where I wanted to go every single time,
- 1:54:26Speaker 5: you know, so I think, yeah, tying it all together,
- 1:54:28Speaker 5: it's like, right, I said, kind of see why, Yeah,
- 1:54:31Speaker 5: it's so.
- 1:54:32Speaker 3: I I hear what you're saying. But I don't think
- 1:54:35Speaker 3: it took a lot of guts. And you know, the
- 1:54:38Speaker 3: crafts like Bledsoe was considered like the fifth son, you know,
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: the whole you know, Robert really has still does has
- 1:54:44Speaker 3: a lot of offensive prince from Bledsoe. And I remember
- 1:54:47Speaker 3: at the time, you know, when the decision was made,
- 1:54:49Speaker 3: I didn't hear one word.
- 1:54:51Speaker 4: Oh no, they didn't.
- 1:54:55Speaker 3: All everybody was all in on that decision. That was
- 1:54:58Speaker 3: not There was no vibe uh with that decision.
- 1:55:02Speaker 4: Truly such a great guy too.
- 1:55:03Speaker 5: I mean it's like football is one thing, but just
- 1:55:05Speaker 5: even the guy that he was and is and how
- 1:55:07Speaker 5: much he's still beloved. I mean, that's my favorite thing,
- 1:55:09Speaker 5: is just that Patriots Nation has embraced him and he
- 1:55:12Speaker 5: always has a special place at the table for what
- 1:55:14Speaker 5: he meant to.
- 1:55:15Speaker 3: Oh listen, Bloodsoe like was huge, Like you said, he
- 1:55:18Speaker 3: was the best quarterback on this team ever up to
- 1:55:22Speaker 3: the point that Brady got here, you know, and by far,
- 1:55:25Speaker 3: by far, you.
- 1:55:26Speaker 5: Sat two games in the early nineties and then all
- 1:55:27Speaker 5: of a sudden you have this tall quarterback throwing bombs
- 1:55:30Speaker 5: all over the play shows up and beats Dan Marino, Like,
- 1:55:32Speaker 5: oh yeah.
- 1:55:33Speaker 3: I mean other and other than and other than Ben Coates.
- 1:55:37Speaker 3: It's not like he had.
- 1:55:41Speaker 13: Terry.
- 1:55:43Speaker 4: I Troy was not back then.
- 1:55:46Speaker 6: No, but I do really appreciate what saying that that
- 1:55:50Speaker 6: Patriots Nation really has seemed to embrace Drew like.
- 1:55:53Speaker 4: He's like it's never right there with him. He's like
- 1:55:55Speaker 4: part of the Diamonds.
- 1:55:56Speaker 6: Yeah, it's never been like any sort of negative we
- 1:56:00Speaker 6: got rid of use. Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know.
- 1:56:03Speaker 3: Troy's in Virginia. What's up, Troy?
- 1:56:05Speaker 4: Troy Brown, Troy, how are you doing?
- 1:56:07Speaker 3: Good?
- 1:56:08Speaker 4: Good at Troy?
- 1:56:10Speaker 26: For one, thank you, and I'm a big fan, especially
- 1:56:14Speaker 26: on Cast twenty two coming up.
- 1:56:17Speaker 11: I would.
- 1:56:19Speaker 15: Yes, I would like to put you know, light.
- 1:56:22Speaker 11: On the situation.
- 1:56:23Speaker 26: It's gonna get worse before it gets better. We've been
- 1:56:26Speaker 26: filling that ever since Tom Brady left. But this is
- 1:56:30Speaker 26: mac Jones pretty much third time dealing with working with
- 1:56:36Speaker 26: another coordinator when we lost Tom Brady. Of course that
- 1:56:41Speaker 26: we had to work with.
- 1:56:45Speaker 13: Cam Newton.
- 1:56:46Speaker 26: Cam Newton new into the system, had to.
- 1:56:48Speaker 12: Work through it.
- 1:56:50Speaker 26: Cam Newton didn't work out. Now we have Matt Jones,
- 1:56:53Speaker 26: but we lost Josh and Daniels the year after that.
- 1:56:57Speaker 26: Yet we was able to see how mac Jones worked
- 1:57:00Speaker 26: as a offensive coordinator. So now that we do have
- 1:57:04Speaker 26: an offensive coordinator now and the roster did get better
- 1:57:08Speaker 26: from last year on the offensive end, we still kind
- 1:57:12Speaker 26: of shaky on the O line, but we have to
- 1:57:15Speaker 26: trust in the process. We've been sitting in this seat
- 1:57:19Speaker 26: ever since we lost Tom, you know, Tom Brady, but
- 1:57:22Speaker 26: we just have to trust in the process. It gets
- 1:57:26Speaker 26: better before it gets worse, and then when we're starting to.
- 1:57:28Speaker 17: See to get better again.
- 1:57:30Speaker 26: So we just gotta have patience and we see what
- 1:57:32Speaker 26: was rocking during training camp.
- 1:57:35Speaker 4: Thank you, Thanks Troy, Thanks Troy, thanks for listening.
- 1:57:38Speaker 3: Thanks Troy. Good call. Let's go to Jody and Georgia,
- 1:57:42Speaker 3: who will finish finish up the show. What's up? Jody?
- 1:57:45Speaker 27: Hey, what's going on?
- 1:57:46Speaker 20: Guys?
- 1:57:46Speaker 12: Hey?
- 1:57:48Speaker 27: Hey, I just wanted to bring up something that I
- 1:57:50Speaker 27: feel like kind of gets overshadowed a little bit with
- 1:57:52Speaker 27: the offense last year, Bill and Figures have always been
- 1:57:57Speaker 27: known for like discipline, but we had so many penalties
- 1:58:02Speaker 27: that just like fizzled out, so many drives and stuff
- 1:58:04Speaker 27: last year, just when you get all's avenue on, why
- 1:58:06Speaker 27: do you think that was? Do you think it was
- 1:58:08Speaker 27: because of the offensive coordinators and just the way the
- 1:58:10Speaker 27: offenses ran or it's kind of good drive?
- 1:58:13Speaker 4: Yeah, No, I think I do think it's significant.
- 1:58:16Speaker 5: I mean, you know, people call in to talk about
- 1:58:18Speaker 5: like some of the sloppiness, like thanks Jody, I do.
- 1:58:21Speaker 5: I mean, I'd connect most of it's just everybody not
- 1:58:23Speaker 5: being on the same page.
- 1:58:24Speaker 4: And I think that.
- 1:58:26Speaker 6: We saw it in training camp, like guys like lining
- 1:58:29Speaker 6: up incorrectly and or like illegal formation flags and those
- 1:58:33Speaker 6: joint practices and you just see the ref on the
- 1:58:35Speaker 6: sideline just throw the flag up there.
- 1:58:37Speaker 4: Not coordinating, not coordinating.
- 1:58:39Speaker 3: It was I've never seen, like in my twenty eight years,
- 1:58:42Speaker 3: I'd never seen a training camp offense like that. And
- 1:58:46Speaker 3: you know, I just kept saying, they'll figure it out,
- 1:58:48Speaker 3: you know, with new coordinator, they'll figure it out, and
- 1:58:50Speaker 3: they never really did. But it didn't look good from
- 1:58:53Speaker 3: the beginning, and it was it was just a parent
- 1:58:55Speaker 3: and it was a parent, And.
- 1:58:56Speaker 5: I would say too, because I went back and looked
- 1:58:58Speaker 5: at my notes I kept from last years, like OTAs
- 1:59:01Speaker 5: and everything, and you know, hard to tell a lot
- 1:59:03Speaker 5: from the OTA mini camp stuff, but you know a
- 1:59:05Speaker 5: lot of the same themes. And I know Paul says, oh,
- 1:59:07Speaker 5: we didn't know until training camp. We I think we
- 1:59:09Speaker 5: had some glimpses of even in OTAs, and so I
- 1:59:11Speaker 5: don't want to pump it up too much, but I
- 1:59:13Speaker 5: would just say, in these OTAs, it just looked like
- 1:59:16Speaker 5: they were functioning.
- 1:59:17Speaker 4: They were on the same page, coordinated.
- 1:59:19Speaker 3: Wasn't on the ground, you know, Yeah, yeah, all right,
- 1:59:23Speaker 3: Well that's going to do it for this edition of
- 1:59:24Speaker 3: Patriots Unfiltered. Appreciate everyone calling, writing, listening. Coming up next
