- 2:36snow event, or at least a winter event of some kind early tomorrow morning.
- 2:40Turns out that's not going to be the case, at least as it
- 2:43looks now, although there could be some slick spots in the valley tomorrow morning,
- 2:47but it looks like other areas of the state are going to get it,

- 3:12Week Hannah, good morning, Welcome to the show. Hello, I'm doing
- 3:15fine. Welcome, Welcome. Do you happy New Year? Did we already
- 3:20cover? Was it? No? It wasn't New Year. He's so happy
- 3:22New Year, Happy New Year. Any any New Year's resolutions for you?
- 3:28Nope, I'll just go with the float and go with the flow, whatever
- 3:30whatever that may be. All right, So, uh, it doesn't look
- 3:35like we're going to get anything in the way of snow for this year.
- 3:38But I have to ask you, just so we can get to know you
- 3:39a little bit better. Are you a snow or a wintertime lover? Hannah?
- 3:44I so I'm a slummer girl. But when there's snow, I like
- 3:49snow, but I don't like just the regular old cold. Okay, Yeah,
- 3:53well I see I sold. I guess this is a sign that I'm
- 3:55getting older. And I'm much older than you are. But uh, you
- 4:00know, I don't mind so much whatever the other nature throws at us,
- 4:03as long as it's sunny. You know, these days in the winter when
- 4:06there's no sun I can handle it being you know, twenty below zero.
- 4:11If their sunshine, that's just that's a sign you're getting old, though,
- 4:15so you'll have that to look forward to. All right, let's get to
- 4:18March. This week's adopt me. Please spend it the week As always,
- 4:21March's picture is posted on Dave Allen Radio on Facebook and The Dave Allen Show
- 4:27on x. The artist formally known as Twitter tell us about March. All
- 4:32right, Well, Marge was found and brought into us as astray, so
- 4:39we don't know much about her background or her history or anything like that.
- 4:44We just know what we know since she's been with us, and she did
- 4:48come to us back in November of twenty twenty three, and she is still
- 4:54kind of newer to Kseha, but she's quickly stolen everybody at the shelter's heart,
- 5:00so everybody loves her. She's very, very sweet, she's playful,
- 5:04she's great with other dogs. From what we have seen, she's great with
- 5:09humans as well. She loves them and she has not shown any issues to
- 5:13be around kittens either, because she has been in a few well, she
- 5:17has been a foster home with one of our employees, and she has a
- 5:19cat, so that's nice to nice. But she's a really really sweet girl.
- 5:25She's about two years old as well. Yeah, but she will be.
- 5:29Yeah, and she's about fifty pounds. Is that what you told me?
- 5:31Yeah, she is about fifty to fifty one pounds the last time we
- 5:34weighed her, which was I think maybe like a month ago, but she
- 5:40is probably still around that. She's not really going to get any bigger.
- 5:43She's fully growned, so she is ready to be adopted. Well, she's
- 5:46a beautiful dog. Again, you can see the picture posted on my social
- 5:48media pages. Any idea what kind of dog that Marge may be? Not
- 5:54one hundred percent sure on what she may be, but she does kind of
- 5:58give a little bit of like type of maybe cattle dog, maybe mixed with
- 6:02a pity or something. I'm not a hundred so sure she could be entirely
- 6:06different than that. But ever since I got one of my dogs the DNA
- 6:11tests, I don't think I'm very good at guessing anymore. Well, I
- 6:15mean, you just never know, and you don't know what the experiences were
- 6:17like, you know, for her, her ancestors, so to speak.
- 6:21Beautiful, beautiful dog. And as you said, she has been with various
- 6:26families and foster type situations and she seems to do well. And when you
- 6:30sent me the picture, you know, last night I showed my wife,
- 6:32I said, man, what a beautiful dog this is. This would make
- 6:35a great, great pet for somebody heading in to the new year. So
- 6:40go on over to my Facebook page or Twitter the artists woman on the X
- 6:44and take a look at the picture of Marche. You get back to March
- 6:46here in a couple of moments, I did want to get into this.
- 6:48You guys did a post on your social media that I thought Hannah was worth
- 6:55sharing. For the year twenty twenty three, you had four thousand and ninety
- 7:00seven animals that came through the shelter. You had three three hundred and three
- 7:06adoptions, three hundred and forty nine that were reunited with their owners, which
- 7:12is something we probably don't spend enough time talking about. When somebody picks up
- 7:15a you know, a dog or cat gets out or whatever and they get
- 7:19back to the shelter and hopefully their microchip can get them back with their owners.
- 7:23That's good. One hundred and eighty six surgeries and you had one hundred
- 7:29and fifty two puppies with parvo that were treated with a ninety seven percent save
- 7:34rate overall with animals at the shelter. You know, again, I'm not
- 7:38an expert on this. This is what you and Angie do for a living,
- 7:41but I will say those are some pretty darn good numbers. It sounds
- 7:44like it to me. Yes, yes, they are some very very good
- 7:46numbers, and it seems as though they just keep going up and getting better.
- 7:51So we It is very very hard. It's a very tough job.
- 7:55It's definitely got a lot of emotion attached to it, but it's very very
- 8:00rewarding. I know everybody always hears us say that, but once you actually
- 8:05kind of get your foot in there and start working, it is very rewarding.
- 8:07You do have your tough times, but you just have to get creative
- 8:11and help as many animals as you can, and a lot of what you
- 8:16folks do up there hand it would not be possible without volunteers. Correct,
- 8:20Yes, we always have. We have a pretty good steady amount of volunteers
- 8:26coming in daily, but we always always always want more. So if anybody
- 8:31else there wants to volunteer, you can just come on up to the shelter
- 8:33and I can give you a tour and cats tell you all about it.
- 8:37Or you can even go onto our website and there as a space like a
- 8:41little section for volunteers as well on there that you can inquire about volunteers and
- 8:46fosters are often needed as well. How exactly does you every week we talk
- 8:50about these animals going to fostering, how exactly does that work? I mean,
- 8:54does somebody just reach out to you or as you said, go online
- 8:56and say I'd like to be a foster? How long do they normally keep
- 8:58the How does a foster program work at the Sheld? Yes? So if
- 9:03you want a foster, yes, you'll go onto our website and we have
- 9:07a section four like helping out with fostering, and you can fill out a
- 9:11foster application and then what happens with that application is it goes into our system
- 9:16base and then your profile is creative in there and you will be listed as
- 9:22a willing foster for whenever we need someone to foster and we may reach out
- 9:26to you or maybe you. We also have a KDHA Foster hero Facebook group,
- 9:33so if you search that up, then you can join that and you
- 9:37can we pretty much post any time in that group whenever we need an emergency
- 9:41foster or just a foster in general, and they go out pretty fast because
- 9:45we do have so many fosters. But we always, like that said,
- 9:48during me more like kit season and puppy season and all of that. During
- 9:52that time from like a grillish to maybe September ish, that's when we need
- 9:58a lot of fosters because we have all those kittens that need a good foster.
- 10:01I got a friend of mine. He and his wife foster cats on
- 10:05a regular basis, and I say hats off to those people because once they
- 10:09come into my homehanded, they're probably staying. I mean, that's a special
- 10:15kind of person that could do that, because once they enter my home and
- 10:18they lay around on the couch with me whatever, they're probably going to stay
- 10:20with me. So it's probably a good idea of that. I just try
- 10:22to do this segment. You know, I'll have ten thousand animals hanging around
- 10:26the house. I do want to report that the dog we had on the
- 10:31show last week. I had Carrie who to sect for the news team and
- 10:33with me last week, Hamlin, our dog last week was adopted. So
- 10:37thank you so much to our listeners of the segment each week and to find
- 10:41people that adopted Hamblin. That was a great looking dog. Yes, yes,
- 10:45it's a very very sweet dog and we were so glad that he got
- 10:48adopted. All right, what else is going on at the shelter? And
- 10:50I always like to give an opportunity to talk about things that you are in
- 10:54need of. But do you have any activity? I know it's winter time,
- 10:56but do you have any activities coming up? And what are some of
- 10:58the things that the shelter could use right now? I don't think that there's
- 11:03really any events or anything happening, at least not this week that I know
- 11:07of. I know that this is kind of just like a new week,
- 11:11a new year, and we're getting back into the swing of things. So
- 11:13we'll probably have some events coming up, but not exactly sure when those will
- 11:18be. We of course always need donations, we need fosters, volunteers,
- 11:22all of that stuff. And if you can't do any of that, we
- 11:26always say that spreading the word helps, share in our Facebook post, helps
- 11:28coming up and just dropping off a date of sheets that you have in your
- 11:31attic or something helps. So we always need sheets, blankets, cowels,
- 11:39wash rags, handtowels, stuff like that. But then of course we could
- 11:41always use food for the dogs and the cats, which we do use Purina
- 11:46dog chow and Purina cat and kit and chow. And then of course we
- 11:50always need soaks, clubs. Dog colors are a big thing that we would
- 11:56love to have because we try to put a collar on every dog that comes
- 11:58in through the because it helped us a little bit more. So all of
- 12:03those things would be very very we would be grateful to have. All Right,
- 12:07Hannah, keep doing what you do and we'll talk again next week.
- 12:09Thanks a lot, thank you, and a gardner again from the Canal charlest
- 12:13New Main Association with this week's Adopt Me Please pedal of the week. Those
- 12:16numbers again, I mean this incredible numbers. There four ninety seven animals,
- 12:22total capital to the shelter last week, thirty thirty three oh three adoptions,
- 12:26three thousand, three hundred three adoptions, three hundred and forty nine animal reunites
- 12:33with their pet Mommy and Daddy's one hundred and eighty six surgeries and they were
- 12:37able to save a lot of treat a lot of puppies with parvo in ninety
- 12:43seven percent save rate at the shelter last week. So I think, as
- 12:46I said, hats off the hand on Angi and all tho folks up there
- 12:48because they do a wonderful job, And hats off to you if you're a
- 12:50volunteer for the shelter. All right, recapping Marge again. Picture posted if
- 12:54you want to go check it out. Got Marge's photo posted on my Facebook

- 17:45great Kathleen Turner impersonation. Can you do a little Bonnie Tyler total eclips of
- 17:52the heart for me this morning? It started out as hardy fire Steed,
- 17:55and then as it's gotten deeper, I feel like I'm Kathleen Turner. Great
- 17:59to be on the line with you. I apologize in advance for the raspy
- 18:03boy. Hey, then you sound good? You know? You and I
- 18:04were texting back and forth yesterday and I even told the folks that stopped the
- 18:08show that you were feeling a little bit under the weather, but I appreciate
- 18:11you being a trooper and calling in tim This of course, being the first
- 18:15week of the year. With all my guests this week, I've been giving
- 18:18them a chance, you know, to kind of look back on the year
- 18:21that was twenty twenty three and look ahead to twenty twenty four. I want
- 18:23to start with last year and I want to focus on some of the big
- 18:26sporting events of the year for Charleston and the surrounding areas. Now we all
- 18:30know about the boys and girls state basketball tournaments and what that does for Charleston
- 18:36State Baseball tournament as well, but I want to talk about some of the
- 18:38other big events. One in particular that I was doing some reading some of
- 18:42the information from you guys, and that was that International Table Tennis Federation event
- 18:48last July. I talk about that, man, that was huge. Yeah,
- 18:49we hosted the International Table Tennis Federation's PM Youth Championships here in Charleston.
- 18:56We had two hundred plus youth athletes from all over North, South and Central
- 19:02America in Charleston. They were here for almost a full two weeks. As
- 19:07a matter of fact, because of the Because of US hosting that tournament,
- 19:11USA Table Tennis moved their training camp to Charleston for several days prior to the
- 19:15event. So you know, that one event inside the coliseum, and it's
- 19:19kind of a niche sport, right, so we understood that it wasn't going
- 19:23to drive enormous attendments. We did sell tickets and people had a good time,
- 19:27But when you think about that, I mean, that was that was
- 19:30international championship play going on right here in Charleston, and it was really great
- 19:36for the downtown hotel and restaurant communities for those you know, for those two
- 19:40weeks that they were in town. And we followed that up with with the
- 19:45International Volleyball Tournament in partnership with USA Volleyball, seven men's national teams from North,
- 19:52South, and Central America's coming to Charleston. So internationally we had a
- 19:56really great year. Well, and I just wanted to throw this in here.
- 20:00Sometimes it's not necessarily about selling tickets here as much as it is about
- 20:06the people that come in. As you said, some of these things are
- 20:07kind of in each a sport. But still, I mean, obviously you
- 20:12can look at ticket sales for the state Boys and Girls basketball termams or state
- 20:15baseball turnam, but whatever the case may be. But sometimes when you bring
- 20:19these things in, you're talking about multiple multiple teams. That's multiple hotels,
- 20:23that's multiple people that are going down to you know, fill in restaurant name
- 20:29here to have a bite to eat or drink afterwards or whatever. That's what
- 20:33you really look at here. That's that's exactly right. And I'm going to
- 20:37throw one more component on top of that, and that is So we started
- 20:41out with table tennis, we developed it, and they're all governed by USA
- 20:45Sports, the Olympic governing bodies for sports in the United States. So we
- 20:49developed a good relationship with USA Table Tennis, and then we parlayed that into
- 20:55some conversations with and developing a good relationship with USA Volleyball, and then all
- 20:59of that pays forward when we look ahead to twenty twenty four and for six
- 21:03days, Charleston, West Virginia is going to be the center of the cycling
- 21:07universe because USA Cycling is bringing their USA Road Pro National Championship event to Charleston,
- 21:15West Virginia for five years beginning in twenty twenty four. Had previously been
- 21:19at Knoxville, Philadelphia, and Greenville, South Carolina before that. So you
- 21:23know, we developed these relationships with governing bodies and then those begin to pay
- 21:27themselves forward as you develop more and more of those relationships. And I'll tell
- 21:33you now, Dave, this USA Cycling event in May will be the biggest
- 21:37sports event in my opinion, that we've ever hosted in the city of Charleston,
- 21:44outside of girls and boys state high school basketball. It's going to be
- 21:48massive and touch every part of the city. Tim Brady from the Charleston CVB
- 21:52joins us this morning and again Tamp. These organizations, as you said,
- 21:56talk to each other, you know, and so they have organizations that they
- 22:02have, you know, trade trade groups, whatever. They talk to each
- 22:04other. What did you think about Charleston and the surrounding areas? And what
- 22:08I love about it is is what you said about this cycling thing, Tim,
- 22:11is that this has previously been held in Knoxville. Knoxville is a great
- 22:15city. I've spent time in Knoxville. I'm sure you have as well.
- 22:18It's a big old city, you know. Philadelphia is a big old city.
- 22:22Charleston, West Virginia not so much a big old city, but we're
- 22:26right up there now with all these big time players. Yeah, we absolutely
- 22:30are. And that's a credit to a couple of things. One, you
- 22:33know, we have a great hotel community here in Charleston. They're always willing
- 22:37to work with us and to do what has to happen to make things work
- 22:44for the indoor sports. They have a great relationship with the Charleston Coliseum and
- 22:47Convention Center. You know, they're Patrick Leahy, the general manager there and
- 22:49his team are just absolutely wonderful to work with. But over all of that,
- 22:56we have an incredibly supportive and positive city govern that starts with mayor and
- 23:00the Goodwin who is our biggest champion, and Charleston City Council also incredibly supportive.
- 23:07You know, there'll be a lot of city services involved with this cycling
- 23:10race, and the absolute number one thing that was said at every table we
- 23:18sat down at what do we need to do to make this happen. So
- 23:21there is a spirit of collaboration in this city and that is evident to these
- 23:25groups when they when they come in to scout Charleston as potential destination. And
- 23:29what is the timeframe again for this cycling ends in May? Right? What
- 23:32time of the life is it's May fourteenth through the nineteenth, and it includes
- 23:37three components, a time trial, a criterion, and road race, so
- 23:41different components, different spectating options. I'll come back to the show and talk
- 23:45oh yeah several times between now and Between now and May. We're still working
- 23:51out some of the fine details. I will say that we're recruiting volunteers.
- 23:56We're going to need about three hundred volunteers to help pull it off. You
- 24:00can go to our website CHARLESTONWV dot com and on the home pages a link
- 24:04to the Cycling Landing page and you can sign up to volunteer there. We'll
- 24:07again talk more about them. But this event is going to be huge and
- 24:11it's going to be exciting, and I am so looking forward to this cycling
- 24:18event. But Dave Island Showing five any Live is brought to you part by

- 24:38Tim. Now, I know that this first of the year and everybody's
- 24:44just trying to recover get their footing for the year twenty twenty four, But
- 24:47when can we start to see some numbers roll in? I know that you're
- 24:51a numbers kind of guy, and I like numbers as well. When it
- 24:52comes to this sort of stuff. We always talk about heads and beds and
- 24:56overall economic impact. I know, again it's only the fifth day of the
- 24:59new year, but are we anticipating some overall numbers to come out soon about
- 25:03the impact of some of these big events that the CVB has been involved in
- 25:07in the year twenty twenty three. Yeah, And there's two answers to that
- 25:11question. One, we run on a July one fiscal year, so really
- 25:14will do our reah, Yeah, if you're reporting June thirtieth. However,
- 25:17with that being said, I think we can look and we are going to
- 25:19look at some of the things that happened in calendar year twenty twenty three.
- 25:23One of the things I'm most excited about, and it's going to take three
- 25:27weeks or so to really get all of the data aggregate it. But Christmas
- 25:33and the holiday season in Charleston, West Virginia this year was bunkers And I
- 25:37mean that in the best possible way. You had over one hundred thousand people
- 25:41going through the gates at Gomart Ballpark for late the night at the stadium.
- 25:47You had throngs of people at Capital Market for their themed holiday weekends. You
- 25:52had just massive amounts of people downtown at Holly Jolly Brawley and in Slack Plaza.
- 26:00The you know KRT Holly Jolly trolley had people on it every time I
- 26:03saw it going down the street. I'm super excited to see what the impact
- 26:07of all of this holiday festivity hullabaloo is is going to show, because I've
- 26:15never seen anything like it in the twelve years that I've lived in Charleton,
- 26:18just the numbers of people that were out and moving around and doing things during
- 26:22the holiday season. So hopefully mid to late January we'll have some real numbers
- 26:29on what some of those attendance figures were, and how many of those people
- 26:33came from out of town I'm guessing a significant amount, and what kind of
- 26:37economic impact all of that stuff happened when you have all these people coming in.
- 26:41You mentioned the cycling event whatever, and people say I see online chatter
- 26:45all the time, you know, where people say, well, why do
- 26:47we need to build another hotel? This is why we need more hotels exactly.
- 26:51Yeah. I mean I think another downtown hotel would certainly benefit us,
- 26:55if not too. That's personal opinion. That's not you know, coming from
- 26:59anybody but me personally, but you know, I think another hotel would be
- 27:03beneficial down near the Colisseum and convention Center. Because the one thing we haven't
- 27:07talked about in all of this that we've been recapping is the phenomenal job that
- 27:12they've been doing booking concerts and live entertainment at the Coliseum and convention Center,
- 27:18sold out show after sold out show, artists that you never at a million
- 27:22years thought would play Charleston playing Charleston. I just you look at all of
- 27:26the live entertainment options that that that squad over there is bringing in, and
- 27:30it's it's just remarkable what's happening in our city, and it's driving more and
- 27:36more visitation to Charleston, West Virginia. Indeed, and before you know it,
- 27:40we haven't talked about the one of the biggest events, if not the
- 27:42biggest that's Forgatta, and it's going to be happening this summer. And it
- 27:48was a huge success for the first two years. No reason to think it's
- 27:51not going to be this year as well. That's right. You know,
- 27:52I think there was a regarded Commission meeting last week that that I was able
- 27:57to or earlier this week rather than I was able to sit in on.
- 28:00And you know, the thing about Regatta was year one. I don't think
- 28:03anybody knew what to expect. Year two you fix some things that could have
- 28:07been done differently in year one. And what I've gathered and what I'm seeing
- 28:11is that year three is really about fine tuning and making it the best possible
- 28:17event it can be. You take all of the lessons from years one and
- 28:19two and now you've got I think you're developing some formulas for this is what
- 28:26this event is going to be, This is where the money needs to be
- 28:27invested, and this is going to be an absolutely phenomenal Regatta in twenty twenty
- 28:34four. Yeah, I think so. And I've got Brian Hughes actually as
- 28:37the next person to be on the show. He's talking a little weather,
- 28:38but he always gets an opportunity to throw in some regatta talk there as well.
- 28:41Hey, Tim, I appreciate you being here. As I said to
- 28:44you, a little down and out, but you're a trooper, You're true
- 28:48pro and I appreciate you doing that Kathleen Turner slash Bonnie Tyler thing going on
- 28:53here. So I appreciate man. We'll talk again soon. Get well soon.

- 29:19And I'm going to follow up before we go to break on something that
- 29:23Tim said there about the excitement around not only the city of Charleston, not
- 29:27only the Kanal Valley, but really the entire state of West Virginia. Right
- 29:32now, you know this state gets the crap beat out of it from time
- 29:34to time, including by talking heads like me, you know, saying that,
- 29:38well this sucks and that sucks. Whatever. It's a pretty dang exciting
- 29:44time to be in West Virginia right now. I mean, it really really
- 29:47is. With all you got all these activities going on in Charleston. Tim
- 29:48mentioned about the concerts that are coming to the Conliseum and Convention Center. I
- 29:55mean, acts that we never thought would come here. But you know that's
- 29:57not it's not just about entertainment, and it's about all of these different this
- 30:02cycling thing. As Tim said in the month of May, this is going
- 30:04to be the biggest sporting event of its type, spread out over so many
- 30:10days that Charleston has ever seen. Again, with all due respect to the
- 30:14boys and girls state basketball tournaments and the boys baseball tournament brings a lot of
- 30:17people in. I enjoy going to all the games as well as a fan
- 30:19myself, But this is something Charleston has never seen before, and we're seeing
- 30:26a lot so much of this in West Virginia, and it's just trying to
- 30:30get everybody on the right page. I know, want to sound very Pollyanna
- 30:33when I say this, but trying to get everybody on the right page,
- 30:36on the same page, and realize that you've got great events going on throughout
- 30:41the Canal Valley and all of the municipalities, not just Charleston and Tay's Valley
- 30:45where I live, and the Huntington and things of that nature. Plus these
- 30:48economic announcements that are coming in daily, I mean daily. You know,
- 30:52we just had LG, we got new Core, we got all these other
- 30:55ones all around the state of West Virginia. It's a pretty excite time to

- 34:28speaking of holidays and Charleston the Mall, I went there with my baby and

- 34:35the parking garage only stairs. Shouldn't there be ramps for easy access as well
- 34:39as ADA compliance? Yeah, one one would think, all right, let's
- 34:45go to the homes meteorolitist Brian Hughes from WWK TV Storm Track or thirteen,
- 34:50Good morning sir, how are you. I'm doing great. Yeah, I'm
- 34:52attached to them all. And just so you know, you got to go
- 34:54all the way down the elevators to the first floor and then there's ramps from
- 34:59there. There you go, Oh, there you go. And not only
- 35:01meteorologists but also mall guide Brian Hughes. Spoiler alert, mister Hughes, spoiler
- 35:07alert. Okay, this past Wednesday, I had a chance to go back
- 35:10to my hometown of La Logan, uh An area to do some TV commercials
- 35:16for my hometown, Giovanni's in Logan, and we filmed on Wednesday. Those
- 35:21commercials are going to start running next week on your station. I'm told.
- 35:25Pretty heavy rotation, so you see, I am no longer content with just
- 35:30doing radio weather boy. I am multi platform now, so so look out,
- 35:37Okay, I'm coming for your job. I'm just curious how much makeup
- 35:40did you have to use? Don't worry about it. Don't worry about it.
- 35:45Don't worry about it. Listen, did you did you bring in makeup
- 35:47artists from like Hollywood to do you up? Maybe? Maybe? Don't hate,
- 35:52man, don't hate, don't hate. Don't hate the player hate the
- 35:54game. All right, so this made massive, this massive storm event that
- 35:59everyone was sharing talking about as early as Monday this week not exactly going to
- 36:02be the storm of the century. Brian. And you know what, I
- 36:06can tell you this since you and I talked to last Friday and I said,
- 36:09said, what do you think about that storm next week? He goes
- 36:13eh. I said, yeah, I'm kind of thinking of the same thing.
- 36:15It's probably a wedge, easy wedge, and he goes, Yep,
- 36:16it's the wedge. And I said, a good deal. Just along as
- 36:19we're on the same page, which essentially means it's much at nothing. But
- 36:24you know, on Facebook and maybe a station or two people got overly excited
- 36:30about the storm. So that's what kind of ramped it up. But yeah,
- 36:35listen, it's going to be a lot of cold rain tomorrow. But
- 36:38but you know, there's gonna be a few spots, you know, early
- 36:40in the morning we could have a little snowslide by with some rain mixing in.
- 36:45And then there's probably a period from about eighteen ten o'clock in the morning
- 36:49in southern Ohio where the rain's gonna it's gonna rain harder than I feel to
- 36:53draw a cold deer from the mid and uber levels of the atmosphere down the
- 36:57surface, and it might snow for a little bit, but the rain's going
- 37:00to wash it all off. I mean, we're not talking anything significant in
- 37:05regardless snowcumulation, except for like Marlinton and Snowshoe could see half a foot,
- 37:09you know, Somersville might get a half inch to an inch at best.
- 37:15You know, So so really here in the Canal Valley, it is going
- 37:20to be a quick shot at maybe it's some snowflakes, maybe between eight and
- 37:22ten you get a frief little snowflake mixeding in, but it's mostly a cold
- 37:27rain. Well, and when I had reached out to you earlier this week,
- 37:30you know about coming on today. And I say this because a lot
- 37:35of times people see long range forecast and I'm kind of a weather geek,
- 37:38and I'm probably as guilty as everybody else. I'm looking ahead because I travel
- 37:42a lot. I'm looking ahead and you know now, looking at it like
- 37:44next Thursday or Friday, for example, and thinking about, well, I
- 37:47gotta travel here, what's it going to be? But you simply on these
- 37:51long range weather forecasts. And I saw people losing their minds over this on
- 37:54social media Monday or Tuesday. You sit with all of it, and you
- 37:58guys do a fantastic stick job over there. But even with all the technology
- 38:02we have today, you cannot predict it that far out like people were trying
- 38:07to do. Is that right? That is correct? I mean listen,
- 38:10there was another TV station that claried tomorrow and alert day on Tuesday, and
- 38:15I was like, you guys are crazy. I will not speak of what
- 38:21single channel number. It is way down on the dial. But we've got
- 38:25weather wars now, Jeff, queue up, the queue up the w c
- 38:30W theme for us. We've got weather wars now. Go ahead, bright.
- 38:36You know Big John and I do this all the time on his place
- 38:38too. Yeah, but no. Here's but the thing is, yes,
- 38:43you know, if you looked at Monday's model model analysis and Tuesday, you
- 38:49go, man, we can get a lot of snow. But as I
- 38:52said, and I know you watch us in the morning, you know you
- 38:55put are to watch us in the morning as well. But I said on
- 39:00Monday, and I said on Tuesday, and I said on Wednesday. The
- 39:02warm wedge, the warm wedge, the warm wedge is going to win over.
- 39:07The pattern is setting up like that. But all the forecast models,
- 39:09if you look at just the raw output with no interpolation to them, then
- 39:15you go, oh, by gosh, the world is going to end.
- 39:19But it's not. And so that's what we're looking at. And listen,
- 39:23I think the bigger concern is Tuesday storm. And that's because we're going to
- 39:27have heavy rain and wind. I mean Tuesday, this coming Tuesday, Monday
- 39:30will be dry. Tuesday, we're going to get the wind in the rain,
- 39:36and we're talking wind guts of forty to fifty around here. You get
- 39:39up into the highest elevation West Virginia, we're talking sixty mile of our wind
- 39:44gus. So Tuesday is a day where we could have some power outs just
- 39:47around the region. But the temperature is going to be fifty five, so
- 39:51nothing first, worry about pur hides, you know, and then unlight mixed
- 39:53is possible Wednesday morning on the backsize of the system. But here's what happens.
- 39:58I know, you know this, But next weekend we're going to get
- 40:01another storm system, and that one. This is a series of three storms.
- 40:06This weekend Tuesday's storm, and then next weekend we'll get another storm system
- 40:12and that will flip the pattern. So in let's see here a week and
- 40:16a half, we're gonna see highs for you know, a solid week of
- 40:22low to mid thirty So so we you know winter is coming. It's the
- 40:25second half of January and much of February. So this week or so,
- 40:30let's say this next week it's gonna be relatively mild for our temperatures. The
- 40:36following week it gets really cold. We'll warm up for the final week of
- 40:39January with our little January thought, and then going back into February, middle
- 40:44to like that first week of February might be a touch form. Then we'll
- 40:46go right back into a deep free so and these are all based on global
- 40:52patterns that are happening now, historic patterns that we're able to match up,
- 40:58and we know exactly how this is. And so too, let me go
- 41:00back to Tuesday, this high wind event on Tuesday. If you haven't taken
- 41:05down your Christmas decorations yet, Brian, they're about to come down on their
- 41:07own Tuesday. Is that what you're saying? Yes, Mother Nature will assist
- 41:12you in carrying them down. You might want to tear them down because now
- 41:15you know you have to wrap them all up and take them off. Just
- 41:17that listen, Mother Nature is going to do that for you. So yeah,
- 41:22I'm more concerned about Tuesday. We even get a couple of rumbles of
- 41:24thunder one wow, So I'd be more concerned about that than what we've got
- 41:29coming this weekend. Well, and again we just leave the weather predicting up
- 41:32to As I said, I'm a weather geek as big as anybody else.
- 41:35To leave the weather predicting up to the professionals, you know what I mean.
- 41:37And you guys, you and Spencer and the entire team do a great,
- 41:40great job there. But you're saying that as somebody who absolutely cannot stand
- 41:45winter weather, I don't mind necessarily the cold, as I said earlier in
- 41:49the show, as long as your sunshine. But I'm not a snow lover
- 41:51by any stretch of the imagination. We will get snowstorms at some point that
- 41:54will impact the Charleston area, but this is not it. Yeah all,
- 42:00No, not at all. And and listen, I think we're gonna,
- 42:05you know, make up make up for essentially the lost snow that we haven't
- 42:08seen yet. I think we're gonna make it for that once again second half
- 42:13of January and then through the month of February. But and I think we're
- 42:16gonna have more snow than we had last year. Well we didn't have a
- 42:19whole lot last year, Brian, so that's not a whole lot exactly.
- 42:22But you know, the patterns favor favor us getting more snow, and part
- 42:28of that is elviing, you know. And and then also you know the
- 42:31strata spirit warming events over the North Pole, so you know, there's a
- 42:37lot of things to play. And I'm honestly, and you know this because
- 42:39you watched, and I know you have and because you listened intently. But
- 42:44I've talked about this for more than a month, almost two months, that
- 42:49winter is coming, but it's going to be primarily at the end of it
- 42:52second half of January and February. Okay, all right, Brian, keep
- 42:57doing what you do and we will talk so and thanks a lot, my
- 43:00friend. Sound good. Hi, Brian Hughes Media Ritis of Brian Huse the

- 44:07donations of new socks here at our studios. The Texas follow up to this
- 44:15was a follow up to the text I had about the entrance and needing ramps
- 44:21for the Town Center mall and following up to what Brian Hughes said Texas,
- 44:25I shouldn't have to use dirty, smelly, cold elevators to access the mall.
- 44:30Also, there are no ramps in the curbs to get on the sidewalk
- 44:32to access the elevators. How's a person in a wheelchair who parks in the
- 44:37third level supposed to get to an elevator when there's a seven inch high curb
- 44:40with no ramp cutout. So the mall wants traffic access needs to be improved,
- 44:46says a Texture back after this on the Voice of Charleston WCCHS. Brought

- 47:06a good one. Interesting to get her take on the City Council meeting from
- 47:09Wednesday night with all the ruckus during the meeting about the resolution calling for a
- 47:14cease firing the Israeli hamas War. Mayor Goodwin is here. Plus on Monday,
- 47:16West Virginia Secretary of State Mac Warner Megan deal from Goodwill will be on
- 47:22the show. Mike Pushkin's going to be stopping by also next week, Hold

- 47:30an agreement where he'll be on the show next week. That's going to be
- 47:34much listen to radio. That's on Tuesday. Also, next Tuesday's the tenth
- 47:37anniversary of the water crisis in Charleston. Jeff Jenkins will join you from the
- 47:40newsroom to talk about that. Legislature heads back in the session next week.
- 47:44Brad and Steven Allen Adams will be on the show to give a review of
- 47:47the governor's speech. They'll be on on Thursday to talk about that. We'll
- 47:52spend some time talking about restaurant week that's come to Charleston. Another candidate that
- 47:55is running for governor that you may not be aware of. She's on the

- 48:01Bus Doctor Casey Sacknbridge Valley. Obviously, it's going to be a very very
- 48:06busy week. Now. This has been rumored for some time, but The
- 48:09Wheeling Intelligent are reporting that GOP Chairman Elgin mccardal will be stepping down as chair.
- 48:15She will rem the chair through until the GOP has their winter meetings and
- 48:19Charleston coming up on the twentieth of this month. Hoppy'll, I'm sure have
- 48:22more on that coming up, coming up next hour, Texas, says Dave.
- 48:28I moved to Logan in nineteen ninety six. Very first Saturday I was
- 48:30there. I was on my way to work and saw a man walking down
- 48:32Stratton Treet at seven thirty in the morning, wearing shorts at a tank top
- 48:36and a straw hat, drinking a Budweiser. When I passed him, I
- 48:39realized it was the mayor and thought to myself, I'm going to like this
- 48:42down Well, I'm just got it. It wasn't me. Text says I
- 48:46see where the Charleston Westerroninida City Council voted to the table a ceasefire resolution of
- 48:50the Israelian a mos war. What they need to do is pass a ceasefire
- 48:52resolution about the thugs on Charleston's West Side and elsewhere that have ruined the town.
- 48:59Look use here, Hey, it's Danny Jones Sarafino at the timer.
- 49:04Lime doesn't worry. I don't believe that now. I don't believe that we're
- 49:07talking about the mayor of Logan. You good friend, my good friend,
- 49:09Serafino no Letty. Now he wasn't mayor at that time. He's a good
- 49:14that could have been me. Maybe maybe that's what they now. At seven
- 49:16thirty in the morning on the Saturday, I would have been on the air
- 49:19at the radio station there, So now it wasn't me. And plus I
- 49:21don't drink bud Wise, I'm a middle light guy. But yeah, well
- 49:25it's Dandy Jones. How how are you? Man? I'm gonna be on
- 49:28with Hoppey opening up the show? And can I talk about what I was
- 49:32talking about? Sure? Go ahead, man, I got I got three
- 49:35minutes going, all right, I was, I was telling him. I
- 49:37watched a video this morning of Demon Wilson, who was lamon Lamont Sandford and
- 49:44the greatest show ever Sandford and Son, and I posted on my Facebook page
- 49:46if you want to set the top of my Facebook page, and I found
- 49:51out a few things. He first thing, he was a Broadway actor.
- 49:54They came after him to do the show because they saw him on he did.
- 50:00He had one appearance on All in the Family. He was a Broadway
- 50:02actor and a very sophisticated guy, and he was he could dance, and
- 50:10they showed that in one show on Sanford and Son. So when he left
- 50:15Sanford Son he wasn't allowed or when he got off TV, he wasn't allowed
- 50:20to be on anything. They said, your contract obligates you not to be
- 50:24interviewed if your house is burning down. So he went to Vegas because he
- 50:29left on pretty bad terms, and they came back with the show that was
- 50:32just called Sanford Sanford Arms. No're two different shows. Sanford Arms was a
- 50:37show, but there was also a show just called Sanford where Fred took in
- 50:42a real big, big, old white guy from Texaserica. Here's Here's here's
- 50:47something I know about Demon Wilson. He later, when his contract was over,
- 50:51appeared on a version on ABC of The Odd Couple The Outcome with Ron
- 50:57Glass from Barney Man, and Ron Glass played the more effeminate role. Yes,
- 51:00and it was. I watched it live, I watched it. I
- 51:04liked it all right. Real quick, Danny, I know you were on
- 51:06Hoppy yesterday and you could be on Hoppy again today. Let's close real quick,
- 51:09give me forty five seconds on you and I are on the same page
- 51:13on this thing. That Charleston City Council did the right thing by tabling that
- 51:15that resolution. Ye see, unlike unlike most governments, what Charleston City Charleston
- 51:22does is real and it's very close and they do not need to take these
- 51:27views on extraneous issues. There's other ways you can make that. Don't bring
- 51:31its to city council. You want to take the city council hostage and make
- 51:36the people on council that don't go their way. Oh, they're all terrible,
- 51:42shame, shame, shame. No they're not. It's not their business.
- 51:45I mean, it's their business personally. But city council needs to focus
- 51:49on doing real things for real people. Yeah, do that sort of thing,
- 51:52police, fire protection, you know that sort of thing. I don't
- 51:55think they need to be getting involved in this, that's my opinion. I
- 51:59think that they need to help make the mayor strong, just sell the city.
- 52:04All right, leave it there, we gotta go. You're coming up
- 52:07on the hoppy at ten oh six. I think that yah, all right?
- 52:09Cool? Looking forward to that to Dave Iland showing five anyone brought to
- 52:13you by by Morgan at Morgan, America's largest injury law firm right. We
- 52:15got to go Hollywood. Jeffatty was my producer to day. Jeff, thank
- 52:17you so much. Mayor Monday, Charles Mayor, Amy good Will be on
- 52:21the show. Secretary of State, Google Tour candidate mcwarner, delegate and State
- 52:23Democratic Party Chair Mike Pushkin, and Megan deal from Goodwill all coming up on
- 52:28Monday Show. And you don't want to mess when I got Patrick Morrissey on
- 52:30the show, Danny, that's gonna be next Tuesday. You don't want to
- 52:32miss that. All right, we gotta go. Have you some a great
- 52:36weekend, folks. I will see you Monday till then. Have fun and
