- 0:00SPEAKER_02: Welcome to Vegas Revealed episode 40.
- 0:03Sean McAllister: It's a big week in Las Vegas.
- 0:06Sean McAllister: Downtown's first newly constructed casino is ready for business.
- 0:11Sean McAllister: Circa opens its doors at midnight on Wednesday, October 28th.
- 0:15Sean McAllister: We have all the details on the cool things inside, and there's a lot of really cool, unique highlights we're covering.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, plus what to do for Halloween in Las Vegas.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: From food to attractions, we are always over the top.
- 0:30SPEAKER_02: It's all coming up on Vegas Revealed.
- 0:41Sean McAllister: Welcome to Vegas Revealed.
- 0:43Sean McAllister: It is episode 40.
- 0:45Sean McAllister: John McAllister here along with Dana Roselli.
- 0:47Sean McAllister: So Dana, I guess that means that Vegas Revealed is officially over the hill.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: I guess so.
- 0:53SPEAKER_02: But you know what?
- 0:54SPEAKER_02: It's funny because Circa's having a big party for us, a Black Tie event on Tuesday, the 27th.
- 0:59Sean McAllister: Just for us.
- 1:00Sean McAllister: Just for us.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: Just for us.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we're gonna talk all about Circa on this episode 40.
- 1:07SPEAKER_02: Um, you know, it is opening its doors this week.
- 1:10SPEAKER_02: We're super excited about it because it's the first new build in downtown Las Vegas since like 1980, so it's a huge deal.
- 1:16SPEAKER_02: And you know, downtown Las Vegas is where it all started.
- 1:19Sean McAllister: Yeah, and whenever there is a new casino opening up, it's a big deal.
- 1:24Sean McAllister: They go all out for the grand openings of these properties.
- 1:28Sean McAllister: So uh we're getting into everything circa coming up in just a minute.
- 1:33Sean McAllister: But first, we want to talk about even more entertainment that is making its way back to the strip, Dana.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, last week we interviewed Pith the Magic Dragon.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: He announced he's opening up at the Flamingo, so is X Country at Hera's and Absinthe at Caesar's Palace, and now MGM Resorts International announced the return of entertainment with a bunch of shows at a lot of different properties, and we have the full list.
- 1:57SPEAKER_02: There's some smaller ones, but there's also Sean some some bigger ones that are actually gonna give it a go, like Jabberwockies and David Copperfield, uh, also Caratop um at the Luxor, and then Fantasy at the Luxor, Brad Garrett's Comedy Club is gonna open at uh MGM Grand, which is cool, and then a bunch of the ones at Xcaliber are opening too.
- 2:19Sean McAllister: Yeah, so uh again, the shows, uh the new shows that are going to be opening as of November 6th are at MGM Grand, Luxor, and Xcaliber.
- 2:32Sean McAllister: Um, the Australian Bee Gees and uh Thunder from Down Under, they're ready to bring some heat back to the strip too, in a socially distanced way, of course.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: And we've talked about this in the past when Adam Steck of Spy Entertainment was preparing for when they would be able to open.
- 2:50SPEAKER_02: And he was saying they what he said they put a big ramp, I think, down the center.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: So the guys can like walk down the ramp, you know, and be at least a little closer, but they don't probably kind of like a a catwalk extender, right?
- 3:06Sean McAllister: I don't know if extender is the right kind of word to use for a show like that, but there's a couple different ways I could could say it, but I'll I'll keep it to myself.
- 3:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they won't they won't be jumping on the tables, but it'll still be a fun show and you know they'll do it right.
- 3:22SPEAKER_02: And we were um chatting the other day about David Copperfield, you know, he's in a pretty big theater, so they'll be able to space there.
- 3:28SPEAKER_02: Um and then Jabberwockies will be um it says in the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
- 3:36SPEAKER_02: I was just reading that the other day, and I thought, oh, I didn't read actually how they're gonna be doing some of these, but I was reading the in-depth stuff.
- 3:42SPEAKER_02: And so isn't that cool?
- 3:43SPEAKER_02: I mean, spacing will be great.
- 3:45SPEAKER_02: It's huge.
- 3:46Sean McAllister: Oh my god.
- 3:47Sean McAllister: I mean, the Grand Garden Arena is like 16, 15, 16,000 people, isn't it?
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: Yeah, something like that.
- 3:54SPEAKER_02: So I guess they'll be able to really space it, or maybe they'll put the guests on the floor and put the stage right in the middle, but it allows for so much spacing that they figure, why not?
- 4:03SPEAKER_02: Let's let's try this out.
- 4:04SPEAKER_02: And then I was looking at Brad Garrett's comedy club, and that's gonna be in studio A and B ballrooms.
- 4:10SPEAKER_02: So it looks like it'll be not in the small little venue that he has, but in the ballroom so that they can space.
- 4:16Sean McAllister: Right.
- 4:17Sean McAllister: And those ballrooms, uh, if you've been to MGM Grand before and you've been there for an award show or a fight or a concert, uh, on your way to MGM's Grand Garden Arena, that's where uh some of these uh studio ballrooms are along that that pathway there to get to the arena.
- 4:39Sean McAllister: So that is where Brad Garrett's comedy club is going to be uh set up its temporary home.
- 4:45Sean McAllister: And uh Brad Garrett, I I need to point out that um of the the reopening, he said, I can't wait to get back to disappointing audiences.
- 4:56SPEAKER_02: He's so funny, he really is.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: I just his sarcasm cracks me up.
- 5:01Sean McAllister: So Brad's a great guy.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's gonna be good to have him back.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: And you and I were just saying it'll be fun to have Carrot Top back too, because we know that his trunk full of props is gonna include probably a lot of uh coronavirus related items.
- 5:14Sean McAllister: Oh my, I cannot even imagine the the props that he has dreamed up during the past what seven months.
- 5:23Sean McAllister: I know that his his mind is always going uh a million miles per hour and coming up with with new props to pull out of the trunk.
- 5:31Sean McAllister: So the coronavirus stuff is definitely gonna be big on his on his set list, I have a feeling.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Oh yeah.
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: So those all kick up in early November.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: Um, and then uh the ones that are already kicking up at the end of October.
- 5:45SPEAKER_02: So we got those uh other three.
- 5:46SPEAKER_02: A couple comedy clubs have opened too.
- 5:48SPEAKER_02: So we're getting there and we'll keep you posted on other shows that will open up.
- 5:52SPEAKER_02: And I think once all these shows start, Sean, and people realize that you know it works or and it can be safe, that other shows will probably you know follow in their footsteps.
- 6:02Sean McAllister: Hopefully, I think it's really going to boil down to an economics kind of situation too.
- 6:07Sean McAllister: Like, can a a a showroom that's only what 10% at capacity um sustain a a production show.
- 6:22Sean McAllister: And I think that's what a lot of uh producers of these shows are are thinking about right now too, and they're gonna find out really soon.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 6:30SPEAKER_02: And you and I I have a laugh.
- 6:31SPEAKER_02: I'm not gonna I'm not gonna mention any names on this.
- 6:33SPEAKER_02: We were talking to one performer who said, Hey, we can only have a max of 250 in the room, but we don't get more than that anyway, so we're good to go back.
- 6:44Sean McAllister: So, yeah, we can sit we can sell out our theater at capacity and we'll be good.
- 6:50SPEAKER_02: Oh man, all these uh guys and women, they work so hard to get people into their shows.
- 6:56SPEAKER_02: And so now hopefully it will give us a whole new appreciation.
- 6:59SPEAKER_02: We can actually start filling those showrooms once things get back to normal.
- 7:04Sean McAllister: Yes, but for our friends in the entertainment industry who are who work both uh on stage and behind the scenes, we hope that things do ramp up quickly here and and entertainment can uh get back to you know business as kind of usual as quick as possible.
- 7:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: So uh we wanted to talk about circa.
- 7:25SPEAKER_02: It's a big deal.
- 7:26SPEAKER_02: We have a we have a hotel casino opening in Las Vegas in the middle of all of this.
- 7:30SPEAKER_02: And Derek Stevens has been on the podcast before.
- 7:33SPEAKER_02: It's a while back, so if we have new listeners, we wanna we wanted to, you know, maybe replay some of the sections where he talks about some of the highlights of this property because none of it's really changed.
- 7:42SPEAKER_02: He came up with a plan, he's pretty much stuck to it.
- 7:45Sean McAllister: Oh, he's stuck to it a hundred percent.
- 7:47Sean McAllister: And uh it's been interesting to see the progression.
- 7:53Sean McAllister: I mean, Derek Stevens, he's the owner of the Golden Gate and the D in downtown Las Vegas, right there on Fremont Street with a canopy uh overhead.
- 8:04Sean McAllister: And uh he uh had this vision, he and his brother had this vision to uh do even more with uh downtown Las Vegas.
- 8:13Sean McAllister: They ended up buying uh a few properties right at Las Vegas Boulevard and uh no, it's not Las Vegas Boulevard, it's Main Street and Fremont Street, right next to the Plaza Hotel, and r invent something new and build it from the ground up.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's really cool.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: And something that kind of came out a little bit later that I think, you know, has really taken on, you know, a positive reaction is that this this hotel casino is gonna be 21 and over.
- 8:43Sean McAllister: Which I love.
- 8:45Sean McAllister: Oh my god, no strollers in the in the walkways through the casinos or listen if you want to bring your kid to Vegas, that is your prerogative.
- 8:57Sean McAllister: Obviously, you can do whatever you want, but from a a uh person's perspective who does not have children.
- 9:09Sean McAllister: I I may sound insensitive, but good.
- 9:13SPEAKER_02: Yeah, well, it's not really the place for children.
- 9:15SPEAKER_02: I mean, there are you know, there's places like Circus Circus that cater to, you know, children and families, and and that's fine.
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: And there's there we do have attractions that cater to the other.
- 9:24Sean McAllister: Well, Disney World caters to families too.
- 9:26SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 9:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so you know what?
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: It's funny.
- 9:29SPEAKER_02: 21 and over, and uh I've only seen positive reaction about that.
- 9:33SPEAKER_02: It's a big deal.
- 9:35Sean McAllister: It is a big deal.
- 9:36Sean McAllister: So that's gonna be exciting.
- 9:38Sean McAllister: By the way, um, if you want to go back and listen to the full episode where we sat down and talked with Derek Stevens, it was episode eight of Vegas Revealed.
- 9:48Sean McAllister: You can go back and and listen to that.
- 9:50Sean McAllister: But um but we wanted to, you know, ha give you some insight this week about one of the the really uh premier features of Circa Hotel and Casino in downtown Las Vegas, and that uh is the pool.
- 10:07Sean McAllister: It's revolutionary, it's called Stadium Swim, and Derek Stevens, the owner of Circa, told us all about it.
- 10:16SPEAKER_00: We wanted to test everything.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: We're kind of going uh a little bit over the top with uh with regards to um a number of new things, uh one of which is water quality.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: And um, we're gonna have some of the clearest and cleanest water you've ever seen in a pool anywhere in the country.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Really?
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: Oh my god.
- 10:31SPEAKER_00: So I think that's kind of a pretty cool thing.
- 10:33Sean McAllister: So is there special equipment that you're bringing in to do that?
- 10:35Sean McAllister: That's that's different from what we would normally see in a restaurant.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: Yeah, absolutely.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's why that's why we um we worked with uh worked with this company in North Carolina, and we actually filled these pool vessels and uh we tested all the pumps, all the cleaning.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: We're gonna rotate the water at a much higher frequency than um has ever been done before.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: So uh we're we're kind of focused in on that.
- 10:56SPEAKER_00: And and a lot of it has to do with the fact that that unlike some pools that you may see in Vegas around the country, maybe they open at eight in the morning, but then they're done by five.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: Well, we're gonna open eight in the morning, we're gonna go till midnight, you know, and we're gonna go 365 days a year.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: And um, out of the six pools, two have the ability to be covered up for corporate events.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: Two will go up to eighty-eight degrees, and the two big ones on what we're calling our upper deck.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Um, they'll be at uh 103 degrees um in the winter.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: So that's like that's like what a pool would be if you're out in uh Colorado or up somewhere in Canada outdoors outdoors in the middle of winter.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and I love that the pool's gonna be 365 days a year.
- 11:35SPEAKER_02: So this this is gonna be super cool, you know.
- 11:38SPEAKER_02: I mean, we have you know cold winters, but it's sometimes we have there there's sections of the winter where it's it's actually warm.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: It's in the 70s or 60s, and to people that are visiting Las Vegas, like from other places like Minnesota, they're like that's pool time.
- 11:53Sean McAllister: Well, even when we're we have a high temperature in the 50s or 60s, if you're out in the sun, the sun is still really warm.
- 12:01Sean McAllister: You know, once you're you get into the shadows, then it gets chilly.
- 12:05Sean McAllister: But you know, it's you can still come back home with a tan, even in the wintertime.
- 12:10Sean McAllister: And you know, we we say the circa pool, but there are actually six pools that make up this uh revolutionary uh pool deck that that is uh overlooking Fremont Street in downtown Las Vegas.
- 12:25SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's gonna be super cool.
- 12:26SPEAKER_02: And like he had mentioned, you know, in the winter the pool's gonna be like over a hundred degrees, so it'll be just perfect for swim.
- 12:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 12:33SPEAKER_02: So, like you mentioned, it is spectacular to look at.
- 12:35SPEAKER_02: So we did ask Derek as well, you know, are you gonna have entertainment at Circa?
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: And he said, you know what?
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: The pool is our entertainment, and here, listen to him explain how this is all gonna work.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: But the pool, the outdoor pool, we're expected to do 4,000 people a day.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna be a combination of music, outdoors, um, a fun party.
- 12:56SPEAKER_00: But then we might we might cut down to might have a couple signature events of the night where we go to okay, at four o'clock, the golden knights are playing the Washington Capitals.
- 13:07SPEAKER_00: We're gonna play that.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: We're gonna play, we're gonna play the audio of the game.
- 13:10SPEAKER_00: So for people that are Golden Knights fans, we're gonna have an event, and then maybe we'll do something with the Lakers at night or something like that.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: Then we'll go back to music.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: So for us, it's gonna be an interactive element between between sports and music.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Um, and that's really kind of the entertainment we're focusing we're focusing in on.
- 13:25Sean McAllister: So, as Derek mentioned, sports are going to be uh a big part of uh Stadium Swim over there at Circa, but inside Derek has uh devised and constructed one of the most impressive sports books in all of Las Vegas.
- 13:44Sean McAllister: And we already have some really impressive ones, but Circa is going to take the cake, and he goes into detail for us.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: Whether you're a hardcore hardcore sports gambler or whether you're out on a uh on a bachelor party or bachelorette party or just buddies coming out.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, being able to get like a booth inside the sports book and spend a Saturday afternoon with all the people roaring and sharing, it is, it really is.
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: It's it's um it's something where it's just a whole lot of fun for everybody.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: And and I think that's really one of the things that we wanted to push.
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: I wanted to make sure for the guys that are hardcore that they have all the stats, all the data, all the information, can see every game they want, they know every line move.
- 14:21SPEAKER_00: But I also want to be able to provide a really fun experience for people that are more interested in buying a couple of bottles of champagne and a couple buckets of beer just having a having a great old time all afternoon.
- 14:32Sean McAllister: Right.
- 14:33Sean McAllister: And just enjoy the experience.
- 14:34Sean McAllister: Yeah.
- 14:34Sean McAllister: So it what is what what is that thing that's gonna make jaws drop and eyes bug out when people walk into this sports book?
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: Well, I mean, though I'd say the one thing is no one's ever been into a three-story sports book before.
- 14:47SPEAKER_00: Every sports book's always one level.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: So you know, the main level, the main floor of the casino is like really kind of the middle of our sports book.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: You take the escalators down, but it's a huge three-story kind of movie theater is really what we're building.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: Um we'll have uh we'll have um you know ticket writers down on the lower section, and then we'll have seating similar to what you would have at uh at a movie theater, but in the middle there'll be big big booths for VIPs or or for um you know retail groups that want to be there.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: Then uh, you know, the first floor, you're gonna be able to see it throughout the entire um casino property, and then the second floor, we're doing something um called the overhang, and um there'll be a bar up there, you're gonna be able to look down and some some great CD kind of overseeing the entire the entire uh uh venue.
- 15:32SPEAKER_02: Doesn't it just sound amazing?
- 15:34SPEAKER_02: And we've already started to see pictures instead of renderings of the inside.
- 15:38SPEAKER_02: And if you're listening to this later in the week, we'll we we will have visited it already, and we will also have pictures on our social media as well.
- 15:46SPEAKER_02: It looks incredible.
- 15:47Sean McAllister: It's absolutely amazing.
- 15:50Sean McAllister: And one of the other things, aside from the amazing you know, architecture and design and all of the amenities that uh Derek Stevens is packing in to Circa, he is also bringing back the 99 cent shrimp cocktail day and I.
- 16:08SPEAKER_02: Thank goodness.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: Thank goodness.
- 16:09SPEAKER_02: That's what Vegas was known for.
- 16:11SPEAKER_02: If you watch any travel TV show or, you know, you read any travel magazine back in the day, we were known for the 99 cents shrimp.
- 16:19Sean McAllister: And that is exactly what Derek wants to have happen with Circa.
- 16:24Sean McAllister: He wants to bring back that vintage Las Vegas feel where you know people got dressed up for a night out.
- 16:33Sean McAllister: And it's it wasn't just flip-flops and you know, a tank top and shorts.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 16:39Sean McAllister: Where where it was an occasion to go.
- 16:42Sean McAllister: And I I really think that's what Circa is going to bring back.
- 16:46Sean McAllister: And you know, it bring it harkens the the old days of Vegas, but it really brings it into the current climate with some uh really incredible uh you know, innovations as well.
- 17:00SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and like we talked about the technology and everything.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: And you know, we did ask him like what's your what was your vision overall?
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: I mean, all obviously we've heard about all these things, the pool, the sports book.
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: Um he's talked about the the restaurants and the variety and how he's gonna use some some local chefs too to open restaurants, and so there's a lot in there.
- 17:17SPEAKER_02: And then we just kind of said, like, what what what like what were you thinking when you opened this?
- 17:21SPEAKER_02: It's different than anything else.
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: And here's what he had to say.
- 17:25SPEAKER_00: You know, I think there's certain tried and true um elements that people people enjoy.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: People like to gamble a little bit, people like to have a few drinks, people like to have have um a great meal, people like to have fun, and and and that's kind of the thing that I'm really trying to make sure in everything we design.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: We have to we we're trying to set it up optimally so that when people come to Las Vegas, they're able to forget a little bit about their worries at hometown USA.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: And if we can give them 72 hours of fun, excitement, and a little relief from the day-to-day, um, I feel we kind of owe that to them because they're they're willing to give us 72 hours away from their life.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: So so it kind of is a two-way street, and and we just want to wow wow the customer and uh and really give them the time of their life.
- 18:11Sean McAllister: So no doubt Derek is going to be able to achieve that with uh this uh new spectacular hotel casino uh midnight on October 28th.
- 18:23Sean McAllister: Circa opens to the public, and then in December, uh the hotel rooms at Circa uh open up to the public for uh your stay here.
- 18:33Sean McAllister: So if you're looking for uh a Christmas vacation or a New Year's vacation, I have a feeling that that bookings are are probably excellent pickings for those first few weeks already.
- 18:44Sean McAllister: But go on and see.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I mean I think I think it's December 28th, so it'd be right after Christmas.
- 18:50SPEAKER_02: So New Year's is gonna be crazy, like you mentioned.
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: And 2021 will have the full property open and ready to go.
- 18:55SPEAKER_02: And and and like you mentioned as well, I know that you can book now, so get on there.
- 18:59SPEAKER_02: I know people were booking cabanas at the pool already.
- 19:02Sean McAllister: Right.
- 19:02Sean McAllister: And and he's Derek had been encouraging that for the past several weeks.
- 19:08Sean McAllister: And in one of Derek's uh late night, early morning Twitter posts of a few weeks back, I saw him on top of the roof of Circa along with Jonathan Jasso, the general manager over at uh at the plaza hotel and casino, and they were checking out the fireworks that are going to be uh shot up over Fremont Street.
- 19:31Sean McAllister: Um, and I have a feeling that they're going to make fireworks downtown like kind of a regular thing.
- 19:39Sean McAllister: That this is a spectacle and they want to bring that spectacle back to downtown.
- 19:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that would be cool.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: That would be cool.
- 19:45SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's just like even Derek mentioned, it people love the experience of Las Vegas, and we gotta keep bringing it, right?
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: So that they'll come back over and over again.
- 19:55Sean McAllister: We do.
- 19:56Sean McAllister: And you know, despite uh the pandemic and despite the the downturn and the the hardships that a lot of us have faced over the past several months, we do have you know several new properties that are opening up.
- 20:10Sean McAllister: Circa is the first to open up in downtown Las Vegas, but we also have the the Virgin Hotel and Casino, the former Hard Rock that is going to be opening uh early in 2021.
- 20:24Sean McAllister: And then uh next is going to be Resorts World, another mega resort that'll be opening right on the strip across from the wind.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 20:32SPEAKER_02: So it's all exciting.
- 20:34SPEAKER_02: We love all that stuff.
- 20:35SPEAKER_02: New is fun, and usually people turn out and they support it, and that's what we hope will continue to happen.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: Um, did want to quickly mention that the Cromwell announced it's gonna open on the strip too.
- 20:44SPEAKER_02: Remember last week we were saying we there's one more, one more hotel property on the strip that that hasn't opened yet.
- 20:49SPEAKER_02: It was at the Cromwell.
- 20:50SPEAKER_02: They had done some filming in there for TV shows, but they're actually gonna open the rooms here coming up.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Um, I believe it's early November or end of October.
- 20:57Sean McAllister: So after they disinfect it from hosting Love Island.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: That show was uh yeah, interesting.
- 21:07Sean McAllister: Hey, it brought it brought good exposure to Las Vegas, though.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: It did, that's for sure.
- 21:13SPEAKER_02: And you know, every year, Halloween is a big deal in Las Vegas too.
- 21:16SPEAKER_02: There are people who just love Halloween and love everything about it.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: And I feel like Las Vegas is, you wouldn't think it would be one of the best places to be, but it really is because everything's over the top.
- 21:28Sean McAllister: Yeah, it is, and it's usually very scantily clad too.
- 21:31Sean McAllister: We're gonna talk everything Halloween coming up in our tips next on Vegas Revealed.
- 21:40SPEAKER_02: Thanks for listening to Vegas Revealed.
- 21:42SPEAKER_02: Remember, you can always go to our website at Vegas Revealed.com.
- 21:46SPEAKER_02: There we have tons of videos, content, ways you can listen, and also an email, ideas at Vegas Revealed.com.
- 21:54SPEAKER_02: You can throw us a note and let us know what you'd like us to talk about.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: Welcome back.
- 22:02SPEAKER_02: It's time for Dana and Sean's Secret Tips.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: And today, Sean, we are talking Halloween because this podcast is out on Halloween week, and we have tons of stuff going on around town.
- 22:13Sean McAllister: There's always a lot going on in Las Vegas for Halloween, whether it's uh haunted houses in the neighborhoods surrounding the strip or uh nightclubs putting on events, which this year nightclubs are shut down, so they're not putting on events, but uh there's still a lot to do.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: There is.
- 22:33SPEAKER_02: I was just reading the Gold Spike is actually having this VIP costume party on Friday, October 30th and Saturday, October 31st.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: So you can still show off your costume and and get in there and and try and, you know, uh win masks are required, which is perfect for Halloween, right?
- 22:49Sean McAllister: It is.
- 22:50Sean McAllister: I love it.
- 22:51SPEAKER_02: And then like uh places like Heartstone Kitchen and Cellar over at Red Rock, uh, one of our other casino resorts, they're offering uh little treats with every meal for families that come in.
- 23:01SPEAKER_02: And then we have pink box don't box donuts that are doing, you know, Halloween-themed donuts and things like that.
- 23:06SPEAKER_02: But some of our big attractions um are always super scary.
- 23:11SPEAKER_02: You and I have been on television for a long time here in Las Vegas.
- 23:15SPEAKER_02: And how much did you enjoy or dislike whenever the like Fright Dome characters would come in for an interview?
- 23:22SPEAKER_02: Because they were Oh my god.
- 23:24Sean McAllister: So the Fright Dome over at Circus Circus has been, you know, just year after year getting bigger and bigger and better and more scary.
- 23:35Sean McAllister: And when those characters would come in, they were so terrifying just to look at.
- 23:42Sean McAllister: But when they sneak up behind you, and this is all the work of the producers, they have these characters come in, usually without letting you know.
- 23:52Sean McAllister: Um and and they sneak up and scare the piss out of you on camera.
- 23:58Sean McAllister: And you know, you're I'm surprised that there haven't been FCC violations that have resulted from these appearances on TV.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: Listen, I'm gonna tell you a story right now.
- 24:08SPEAKER_02: One of our former producers at a station I worked at, uh, she was petrified of like these Halloween creepy characters.
- 24:17SPEAKER_02: And they can tell when someone is scared of them or don't like them, and they purposely like come after you, and they went after her where she locked herself in an edit booth, right?
- 24:26SPEAKER_02: And it was see-through, it was glass, and they would not, they were banging on the door.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: Her face was like out of a horror movie.
- 24:34SPEAKER_02: They were banging on the glass, they all gathered right in front of it.
- 24:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, I felt terrible for her.
- 24:41SPEAKER_02: Now we have a laugh about it, but she did not like it, let me tell you that much.
- 24:46SPEAKER_02: I think she almost was on the verge of having a heart attack.
- 24:48Sean McAllister: Well, I mean, you say that they went after her, but it's more like they preyed on her.
- 24:54SPEAKER_02: So true.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: Um, so that's always, you know, a big deal.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: But obviously, things have changed through the years, and um, you know, especially right now, over the last seven months, people have had to make adjustments.
- 25:04SPEAKER_02: So something new is this fright ride.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: It's this immersive ride through haunted attraction, which I was looking at some of the reviews, Sean, and apparently it's it's pretty incredible.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: People are saying it's really good.
- 25:15Sean McAllister: And and I have no doubt, uh Jason Egan is the guy behind um you know, Fright Dome and the Fright Ride.
- 25:23Sean McAllister: And he has really upped the game over the years and developed collaborations with major Hollywood movie studios that have uh put out a lot of the scariest movies that we have ever seen.
- 25:39Sean McAllister: And he's partnered with them to bring those themes here to Las Vegas for his attraction.
- 25:45Sean McAllister: So I think this is gonna be very unique and extremely scary.
- 25:50Sean McAllister: Um, you know, I just hope that nobody hits the gas and uh Rams the person.
- 25:58Sean McAllister: I I hope the social distancing applies to vehicles too.
- 26:01SPEAKER_02: Seriously.
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: I I bet it's incredible if you like that kind of thing.
- 26:05SPEAKER_02: It's Frightride.com.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: Really simple website if you want to go check it out.
- 26:09SPEAKER_02: Frightride.com.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: Something else I saw online uh on my Facebook feed was that Lake Las Vegas is doing these haunted cruises.
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: So Lake Las Vegas, if you don't know folks, if you come, maybe you visit Las Vegas, you're always on the strip.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: It's about what, like 20, 25 minutes to a half hour away, right?
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: Quick drive.
- 26:25Sean McAllister: Yeah, not a bad drive at all.
- 26:27Sean McAllister: It's all uh pretty much highway just to get out to Lake Las Vegas.
- 26:31Sean McAllister: And it's like this little oasis out in the the middle of the desert.
- 26:35Sean McAllister: And it you you arrive at Lake Las Vegas and it's like a a little Italian town.
- 26:40Sean McAllister: I think it's modeled after um like Lake Como or something in Italy, isn't it?
- 26:46SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: I think you're right.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and there's a bunch of hotels, there is a casino, there's a bunch of restaurants, and then all sorts of water sports.
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: So really cool place.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: Well, they're doing these cruises, and I was I was copying down some of the notes from the description.
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: It says scream for your life across the creepy waters of Lake Las Vegas.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: Um see now I that creeps me out because there's no way out unless you jump in the water.
- 27:09Sean McAllister: Right.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: But also it says meet the captain, dead or alive.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: And then apparently you can tour.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: So it's this big yacht, you go on it.
- 27:19SPEAKER_02: Apparently, there's all sorts of creepy things that happen on the cruise, and um the captain's there, and it's like this big haunted, you know, ship kind of thing.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: Sounds fun if you're into that kind of thing.
- 27:30SPEAKER_02: I can only imagine that they do a great job.
- 27:32Sean McAllister: Yeah, I don't know if I would like to be like captive on a on a on a boat for something scary like that.
- 27:39Sean McAllister: Um however, if you do go out to Lake Las Vegas any other time of the year, they usually do uh sunset cruises on this, you know, double decker yacht that's really nice.
- 27:50Sean McAllister: I've been out on it uh a couple times and it it is really beautiful.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so you know that's an option if you're interested in that.
- 27:57SPEAKER_02: And Sean, you were talking about some ghost towns that we have just outside of Las Vegas.
- 28:00SPEAKER_02: And I was like, oh yeah, I forgot.
- 28:02SPEAKER_02: You know, we're really actually known for that.
- 28:04Sean McAllister: Yeah, we are.
- 28:05Sean McAllister: And um I want to get into a couple of the ghost towns um quickly too.
- 28:10Sean McAllister: But uh but first, Zach Baggins, who you might know from the TV series Ghost Hunters, oh yeah, he has a haunted museum here in Las Vegas where he has collected some of the authentic like uh haunted poltergeist infecta infested uh items, like actual items that have been known to be the source of hauntings throughout uh history.
- 28:38Sean McAllister: And he's compiled a quite a terrifying uh museum here in Las Vegas, and they are offering um a flashlight ghost tour boy at the museum for Halloween, and I I don't know about that.
- 28:54Sean McAllister: That seems a little uh much for I'm jumpy to begin with.
- 28:57SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 28:58Sean McAllister: So I think that would put me right over the edge, and I don't like the idea of a poltergeist attaching itself to me and coming to live at my house.
- 29:06Sean McAllister: So I'll probably pass on that, but I know a lot of people are super into that and would love to go.
- 29:12Sean McAllister: Yeah, um, that is Zach Bagan's uh the haunted museum in downtown Las Vegas are doing the flashlight tour.
- 29:20SPEAKER_02: Yeah, people talk about this place all over the all over the world too, and it it's just really become a place that uh a destination place for people who are really into that whole paranormal thing.
- 29:30SPEAKER_02: And on the flashlight tour, real quick, Sean, I was reading the descrip the the description, and it says that you you can wear like like paranormal gear if you feel so inclined.
- 29:40Sean McAllister: So they even have you know so what, like a a Ghostbuster suit?
- 29:46SPEAKER_02: I think so, something like that.
- 29:47SPEAKER_02: So, you know, if you didn't want to bring them home with you, maybe you can gear up.
- 29:51SPEAKER_02: Anyway, okay, let's talk ghost towns.
- 29:54Sean McAllister: So yeah, ghost towns.
- 29:55Sean McAllister: Obviously, Nevada was founded as you know a mining.
- 30:00Sean McAllister: There were little mining towns all over Nevada um for the you know the riches that have been found beneath the the desert.
- 30:09Sean McAllister: And a lot of these old mining towns have been deserted over the years.
- 30:13Sean McAllister: One of them is the Ryolite uh ghost town, and uh they've done some uh really uh cool stuff out in Ryolite and um put some uh art installations up that are really like creepy looking.
- 30:29Sean McAllister: During the day, not so much, but if you go out there like around dusk or in the evening, um some of these attractions are like these shrouded, it looks like a shrouded ghost or a shrouded uh figure.
- 30:45Sean McAllister: But it's open in front and it I don't know, it's hard to explain.
- 30:48Sean McAllister: Look up uh Ryolite Ghost Town, okay, and um you'll see that.
- 30:53Sean McAllister: Also, there's a gold point uh ghost town, which um has over a hundred buildings.
- 31:01Sean McAllister: So, you know, it used to be one of those little boom towns back in the days when silver was being mined out of the ground there.
- 31:09Sean McAllister: But that's another one where you can go and get a glimpse of uh uh, you know, old the old West Frontier living and um, you know, maybe even see a spirit or two on Halloween or not.
- 31:23Sean McAllister: They're there all year.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:25SPEAKER_02: I mean people really are into this stuff, they uh research it, they read about it, and so it's it's a cool thing to do if you're into that that stuff.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: And I don't know, you know, obviously there are a lot of people who, like I said, know about all this stuff, but for other people who do have an interest and didn't know, yeah, Nevada's Nevada's a good place to to hit up some ghost towns.
- 31:45Sean McAllister: Yeah, it's great.
- 31:46Sean McAllister: And uh the last one I'll mention is the Nelson Ghost Town, which is uh in El Dorado Canyon.
- 31:53Sean McAllister: There's it's another old mining town, but this one actually has a general store that you can go into.
- 32:00Sean McAllister: Um, but what they've done out there is put some really cool uh photo ops.
- 32:06Sean McAllister: It's very insta, it's a very Instagrammable place.
- 32:09SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 32:10Sean McAllister: Uh if you want to go, and it's been used in uh a lot of uh movies and TV shows.
- 32:16Sean McAllister: Uh so it was actually the scene of the plane crash in the movie Three Thousand Miles to Graceland.
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, really?
- 32:24SPEAKER_02: Interesting.
- 32:25Sean McAllister: And they also that's the launching point for um some of the kayak tours that go down to the Colorado River, too.
- 32:33Sean McAllister: So there's there's a little more going on here at the Nelson Ghost Town, but um there is.
- 32:39Sean McAllister: There's a lot to there's a lot to see if you venture outside of the strip.
- 32:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so okay.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: I mean, if you want to come here for Halloween week or even around it, we are definitely the the place to be.
- 32:49SPEAKER_02: So everyone that listens, even that can drive in, it might be a good couple day, you know, couple day venture out and and do some Halloween things.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: We got plenty, plenty of choices.
- 32:58SPEAKER_02: So uh a lot to talk about this podcast, Sean.
- 33:01SPEAKER_02: Podcast number 40, circa's opening.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: We've got shows opening here in Las Vegas.
- 33:06SPEAKER_02: It's Halloween week.
- 33:07SPEAKER_02: It's been a good show.
- 33:08Sean McAllister: It has been a good show.
- 33:09Sean McAllister: And uh just on the topic of Circa, jumping back to that, um, we will be doing uh a full episode on location at Circa coming up here on Vegas Revealed.
- 33:20Sean McAllister: So you'll want to stay tuned for that as we uh get Derek Stevens' reflections on opening a new property here.
- 33:28SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we look forward to that for sure.
- 33:30SPEAKER_02: And we thank you all for listening this week.
- 33:32SPEAKER_02: Be safe out there.
- 33:33SPEAKER_02: Uh get out and vote, I guess.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: It's almost election day.
- 33:36Sean McAllister: Yes, vote, vote, vote.
- 33:38Sean McAllister: Everybody needs to vote.
- 33:40SPEAKER_02: I did vote today, Sean, by the way, and I got ice cream to go along with it.
- 33:43Sean McAllister: So at the polling place, they were handing out ice cream?
- 33:46SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 33:46SPEAKER_02: I got my i vote sticker and they gave me an ice cream sandwich.
- 33:50Sean McAllister: Shut up.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: And there was no line.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: It was right near the Boulevard Mall, uh, which is just to the east of the strip.
- 33:57SPEAKER_02: There was a tent in the parking lot.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: I pulled up, I walked in, and then I voted, and I got a sticker and an ice cream.
- 34:04Sean McAllister: I waited in line in a parking lot for an hour and didn't get anything.
- 34:08SPEAKER_02: Oh, I'm sorry.
- 34:10Sean McAllister: I did get a I did get a rubber glove to use on the touch screen, though.
- 34:15SPEAKER_02: Okay, good.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: Take that home as a souvenir.
- 34:18Sean McAllister: No, I threw it away.
- 34:20Sean McAllister: Long gone.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: All right, everyone.
- 34:23SPEAKER_02: Have a great week, and we'll talk to you next week on the biggest reveal.
