- 0:00Welcome to the Humanistic Leader Podcast. This is Dr.
- 0:03Craig Nathanson, and in today's short reflection, I want to invite you to just
- 0:09slow down for a few moments and think more deeply about leadership,
- 0:13life, work, and what it means to remain human in a rapidly changing world.
- 0:19So today I want to talk about movement, not only physical movement,
- 0:24but emotional movement, psychological movement, and movement in our lives.
- 0:29One thing I continue learning is that, you know, many people wait to feel motivated
- 0:34before they take action You know, we wait until we feel inspired, energized,
- 0:39emotionally ready Or somehow, you know, perfectly aligned before we begin moving forward But often,
- 0:46life doesn't work that way Sometimes movement creates motivation Sometimes just
- 0:52getting out of the chair changes our thinking Sometimes taking a walk changes our emotional state,
- 0:59Sometimes writing one paragraph changes our confidence.
- 1:03Sometimes just cleaning a room energizes us. It changes, you know, our energy.
- 1:10And sometimes simply stepping outside reminds us that, you know,
- 1:13life is still happening around us.
- 1:16You know, what I've noticed over the years is that when people stop moving emotionally
- 1:21or physically, their world can slowly begin to shrink.
- 1:25I think many people today are emotionally exhausted.
- 1:28The world seems fast. Technology keeps accelerating.
- 1:32AI keeps changing the conversation. People worry about money,
- 1:37aging, family, work, purpose, and uncertainty.
- 1:41Many people carry that emotional fatigue without ever talking about it.
- 1:47Sometimes that emotional fatigue creates paralysis.
- 1:51We tend to overthink. We delay. We freeze.
- 1:57We stop exercising. We stop creating.
- 2:01We stop dreaming. We stop calling people. We stop believing that small actions do matter.
- 2:09One thing life keeps teaching me is that tiny movements can completely change
- 2:13the direction of a day A five-minute walk matters Drinking water matters,
- 2:20Stretching matters I do a lot
- 2:23of stretching these days Writing one page matters Going outside matters,
- 2:29Having one honest conversation matters Now these tiny acts may seem insignificant
- 2:35but emotionally, they communicate something important to ourselves.
- 2:39I still care about my life. I still believe my future matters.
- 2:45I am still becoming.
- 2:48In the last few weeks, I've shared my personal example of returning to the running
- 2:53trail where I run or jog or actually shuffle along for the first time in several years.
- 3:01Something I, you know, because of some back issues, I didn't think I would ever run again.
- 3:05And now I'm actually doing it. And this experience has reconnected me with,
- 3:10you know, my younger self.
- 3:11And what I realize is underneath all of this The same feeling of joy from the
- 3:17trail is there Just like, you know, I was running decades ago,
- 3:21And I tell you this experience Because what I love about experiences like this
- 3:25Is that it reminds us that parts of ourselves Are never completely gone.
- 3:30Sometimes they're simply waiting for us to reconnect with them I think this
- 3:34is especially important as we get older I've seen that, you know,
- 3:38many people quietly assume that certain parts of themselves have disappeared forever.
- 3:43Their creativity, their excitement, their physical confidence,
- 3:48their sense of possibility.
- 3:50But sometimes one small experience wakes something back up inside of us, like my trail example.
- 3:59Not perfectly, not dramatically, but enough to remind us that we are still alive
- 4:04and we're still growing.
- 4:05So I want to invite you to just pause for
- 4:08a moment Take a slow breath And ask yourself What is one small movement I could
- 4:16make today Not a complete life transformation Not perfection Not solving Every
- 4:24problem Just one small movement.
- 4:28A walk, one difficult email, conversation.
- 4:34Five minutes outside, writing just one paragraph.
- 4:39Stretching, resting, going to bed just a little bit earlier,
- 4:45calling someone you miss.
- 4:48What small movement would help you feel slightly more alive today?
- 4:54Sit quietly with that thought for a moment.
- 4:58Sometimes transformation begins quietly, not through giant, you know,
- 5:05dramatic moments, but through repeated acts of, you know, movement,
- 5:10courage, and self-leadership.
- 5:13You do not always need a completely new life plan, but sometimes you just need some movement.
- 5:19As I like to say, sometimes motion changes emotion. This is Dr.
- 5:25Craig Nathanson And wherever you are on your journey Remember to be your own
- 5:31best friend Learn to lead yourself before leading others And keep becoming more
- 5:36human In a rapidly changing world Until next time.
