- 0:44Speaker 3: In the building tonight and Hollis Lewis, Hello, Hello, and
- 0:51Speaker 3: ladies and gentlemen like we have like we were literally
- 0:54Speaker 3: talking right prior to the show about even what we
- 0:59Speaker 3: are are gonna talk about because there is so much
- 1:04Speaker 3: out there. But let me make sure I give my sponsor,
- 1:07Speaker 3: Frank Walker a shout out.
- 1:10Speaker 4: And you can well and let me let me do this.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Let me. I'm so excited about the show because I'm
- 1:18Speaker 3: trying to figure out where it's gonna go and all
- 1:20Speaker 3: of those kinds of things.

- 1:44Speaker 4: Lee for any of the updates. And I want to
- 1:51Speaker 4: make sure hollis.
- 1:54Speaker 3: You you you are you are a legal expert, and
- 1:59Speaker 3: I want you to kind of lead us off in
- 2:01Speaker 3: what you think on the Marshall side of things. You
- 2:04Speaker 3: because you said something prior to the show that was
- 2:08Speaker 3: like shocking to me, and I don't think anybody thinks.
- 2:13Speaker 3: I don't think anybody has started this, so kind of
- 2:16Speaker 3: throws this legal piece and what could happen to Marshall
- 2:21Speaker 3: by not playing this bowl game?
- 2:22Speaker 4: Okay, well I think Lisa she had that part.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Okay, that's okay.
- 2:28Speaker 6: So basically I came across some information in a group
- 2:31Speaker 6: for the Sunbelt Conference and it's basically the American Athletic
- 2:35Speaker 6: Conference Commissioner Tim Pernetti. He came out with a statement
- 2:40Speaker 6: that you know, because Marshall, well, let me back up
- 2:44Speaker 6: the reason he is so interested in what's happening with
- 2:47Speaker 6: Marshall and their decline of the Bowl game the Independence
- 2:51Speaker 6: Bowl game bid is because Army this year has become
- 2:54Speaker 6: a member of the American Athletic Conference in football only.
- 2:58Speaker 5: So basically, he came.
- 2:59Speaker 6: Out and he feels like that Marshall should be held
- 3:03Speaker 6: accountable for what happened as far as declining the accepting
- 3:07Speaker 6: the bowl bid and then backing out. He feels like
- 3:10Speaker 6: that they should be punished in some way, whether that's
- 3:14Speaker 6: financial or you know, I don't know what he means
- 3:17Speaker 6: by that, but basically he feels like that legislation should
- 3:21Speaker 6: be in place that requires programs that accept an invitation
- 3:25Speaker 6: to any type of bowl or any type of a
- 3:29Speaker 6: bowl basically after football season and they commit to it
- 3:33Speaker 6: and then back out, that they should be subject to
- 3:35Speaker 6: consequences for the impact it has on their opponent. So
- 3:39Speaker 6: basically he's saying that, you know, there should be some
- 3:41Speaker 6: kind of ramifications for Marshall backing out of the Independence Bowl.
- 3:46Speaker 3: But I'm Holliston, and I want you to kind of
- 3:48Speaker 3: give us a little bit of a legal piece to this.
- 3:51Speaker 4: When I look at.
- 3:52Speaker 3: This and even hear that Marshall doesn't have any really
- 3:56Speaker 3: control on that, I think, you know, when you start
- 4:00Speaker 3: talking about college football and what's happening. Those losing twenty
- 4:04Speaker 3: five or more players that are scholarship players.
- 4:09Speaker 4: How are you gonna how are you going to go
- 4:11Speaker 4: to a bowl game?
- 4:12Speaker 3: How are you legitimately going to put on a football
- 4:16Speaker 3: team on the field that is even respectable of a
- 4:19Speaker 3: team that has won a championship or won a conference?
- 4:23Speaker 4: How are you even going to do that?
- 4:24Speaker 7: And I think that's the part that he's missing is
- 4:26Speaker 7: that Marshall itself did not back out of the bowl.
- 4:29Speaker 7: They are physically unable to perform because they don't have
- 4:32Speaker 7: the players to right. That is a defeat in the
- 4:34Speaker 7: bowl game. So it's not the university. It's not like
- 4:36Speaker 7: they accept the big got a better one than say, hey,
- 4:39Speaker 7: we want to not accept this. The problem is is
- 4:41Speaker 7: that problem with that statement, which I don't necessarily disagree
- 4:45Speaker 7: in totality, but the problem is you can't have that
- 4:48Speaker 7: and then at the same time have coaches leaving and
- 4:51Speaker 7: have the transfer a portal all happening converging at one
- 4:54Speaker 7: point because to your point, this is not gonna be
- 4:57Speaker 7: the last time this happens. And even if it's not
- 4:59Speaker 7: your team menttality, what happens if you're you know, your
- 5:02Speaker 7: best five to ten players don't play in the ball game,
- 5:05Speaker 7: then what do you do? Right, So, these sort of
- 5:07Speaker 7: things are going to continue to happen as long as
- 5:09Speaker 7: the timing of coaches being hired away to new schools
- 5:12Speaker 7: and the transfer portal being is what it is at
- 5:16Speaker 7: the exact and basically in December. So this is going
- 5:18Speaker 7: to be the result of it. So you get so,
- 5:21Speaker 7: I think what he needs to probably focus on is
- 5:24Speaker 7: figuring out a solution to the transfer portal coaching hiring.
- 5:28Speaker 7: And I'm just not you know, trying to couple new
- 5:31Speaker 7: solutions to those problems in it self, but working on
- 5:33Speaker 7: the timing of those situations. So you think if the
- 5:37Speaker 7: if the timing is different, yeah, then you'd be okay
- 5:41Speaker 7: with basically all that transpire. Yeah, I'm okay. I mean again,
- 5:45Speaker 7: I'm not necessarily I don't like the way. I think
- 5:48Speaker 7: there's a lot of work that can be done on
- 5:49Speaker 7: the transfer portal paying players in IOL. I think we
- 5:52Speaker 7: have to, like, you know, tighten some of those screws up.
- 5:55Speaker 7: But I think the biggest problem is just the timing
- 5:58Speaker 7: of it, right, because again, because if I'm a player
- 6:03Speaker 7: at the end of my semester in December, then I'm transferred,
- 6:07Speaker 7: I'm entering the transfer portal. Then I have basically about
- 6:09Speaker 7: a month because school starts for most schools at the
- 6:12Speaker 7: top or mid of January, so I have a month
- 6:14Speaker 7: to figure that out. And again, if you are a
- 6:16Speaker 7: coach like coach Huff, you almost have no choice but
- 6:19Speaker 7: to leave at the timing that he did, because now
- 6:23Speaker 7: he again he has to recruit probably some of those
- 6:26Speaker 7: Marshall guys, right, he has to recruit the Southern miss
- 6:29Speaker 7: locker room. He has to recruit the transfer portal, and
- 6:31Speaker 7: he still probably has to find some high school kids
- 6:34Speaker 7: to you know, to start recruiting there, and he has
- 6:37Speaker 7: to hire a coaching staff, and he has to find
- 6:39Speaker 7: a place to live for him as his family. So
- 6:41Speaker 7: he got all this stuff to do basically in thirty days.
- 6:44Speaker 7: So how are you gonna how you're gonna manage that.
- 6:46Speaker 3: One of the things that I think that I think
- 6:48Speaker 3: parents' high school parents need to hear was a piece
- 6:51Speaker 3: of that that you said high school recruitment is a
- 6:56Speaker 3: is a dying thing.
- 6:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, because because.
- 7:00Speaker 3: Now with the idea of transfers, the idea of junior
- 7:05Speaker 3: college players, who's gonna I mean, unless you're that special athlete,
- 7:12Speaker 3: who who wants to have to worry about you maybe
- 7:15Speaker 3: taking a couple of years to get ready when I
- 7:19Speaker 3: can go find a juco player or I can get
- 7:23Speaker 3: a kid to transfer.
- 7:24Speaker 7: And I think that's particularly pregnant as far as when
- 7:27Speaker 7: you're looking at.
- 7:27Speaker 4: The mid majors, especially for them, especially for them.
- 7:31Speaker 7: Because they're going to they need guys immediately they become inug,
- 7:34Speaker 7: plug and play. Again, if you're an elite high school athlete,
- 7:36Speaker 7: then that's probably not your concern. But if you're not,
- 7:39Speaker 7: if you're kind of a mid kind of a mid
- 7:40Speaker 7: tier guy, you maybe you know, finding yourself, maybe finding
- 7:44Speaker 7: it difficult to find a spot for yourself.
- 7:47Speaker 4: I'm going to make the case too.
- 7:48Speaker 3: I'm going to challenge that a little bit and say,
- 7:51Speaker 3: I don't care who you are unless you are legitimately
- 7:54Speaker 3: a guy that can walk in and play. I'm not
- 7:58Speaker 3: I'm not really interested in you unless I end up leaving.
- 8:03Speaker 3: I've got a a I've got a scholarship or two
- 8:07Speaker 3: that's left over. Okay, Now I want to go try
- 8:09Speaker 3: to look and see if I can find me a
- 8:10Speaker 3: high school guy. But I don't think that that's gonna work.
- 8:14Speaker 3: I think college sports are going to go juco and
- 8:19Speaker 3: transfer totally.
- 8:21Speaker 6: Man, I'm not arguing with that at all.
- 8:27Speaker 5: I mean it makes perfect sense.
- 8:28Speaker 6: And and and to go back to to you know,
- 8:31Speaker 6: what we originally talked about with Pernetti and the American
- 8:34Speaker 6: Athletic Conference and and and what his statements were. You know,
- 8:38Speaker 6: I like your solution way better, hollis about changing you know,
- 8:42Speaker 6: some of the standards for when the portal opens, and
- 8:45Speaker 6: and you know, allowing these teams to to be able
- 8:48Speaker 6: to stay together and and fulfill what they are you know, yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 6: fulfill what they're supposed to be doing for their their
- 8:54Speaker 6: football team. Instead his answer is Pernetti's answer to it
- 8:58Speaker 6: is instead of addressing the elephant in the room, his
- 9:02Speaker 6: statement is, well, then those schools shouldn't accept bull bids.
- 9:06Speaker 6: If there's a question that they will not have enough
- 9:08Speaker 6: players to field a team, or you know, whatever the
- 9:11Speaker 6: reason might be, they just shouldn't accept bow bids. Well,
- 9:15Speaker 6: to me, that is the most that's pretty ludicrous. Because
- 9:18Speaker 6: we don't have a magic eight ball. They can't see
- 9:20Speaker 6: in the future that forty or twenty five players are
- 9:23Speaker 6: going to be leaving. They can suspect it and hope
- 9:25Speaker 6: for the best, but it's not confirmed, and they want
- 9:29Speaker 6: to accept those bull bids. They want their team to
- 9:31Speaker 6: be able to go and be a part of that
- 9:34Speaker 6: scenario and make the money for their school. They didn't
- 9:37Speaker 6: want to buck out. That's not something that they envisioned,
- 9:40Speaker 6: I'm sure.
- 9:41Speaker 7: And to that point again, I think again, I think
- 9:43Speaker 7: he's totally off of like trying to punish schools.
- 9:46Speaker 4: I think that's ridiculous.
- 9:47Speaker 7: Yes, but I think what needs to happen, and I
- 9:49Speaker 7: think my solution to this, if everything's equal, want to
- 9:53Speaker 7: keep it the same.
- 9:54Speaker 4: We need to start football season earlier.
- 9:56Speaker 7: So football season needs to start end of July, top
- 10:00Speaker 7: of August, and it needs to end in the November.
- 10:04Speaker 7: So that way, in the November, all the bowl games, playoffs,
- 10:08Speaker 7: everything's done in the November, maybe even playing one or
- 10:10Speaker 7: two less games. So that way, by the top of December,
- 10:14Speaker 7: by the top of December, you have your transfer porter open,
- 10:19Speaker 7: you can hire coaches and we can deal with and
- 10:21Speaker 7: everybody can go into school at the top or the
- 10:23Speaker 7: mid of January. So we need, actually, to me, we
- 10:26Speaker 7: need to start football earlier, and in the earlier we
- 10:29Speaker 7: got to push the schedule up. Let me ask you
- 10:31Speaker 7: to this question, and this might this may be really
- 10:34Speaker 7: a super dumb kind of question here, but why wouldn't
- 10:39Speaker 7: it be Okay, so you got bowl game, bowl game,
- 10:42Speaker 7: bowl game, you got all these names of these sponsored
- 10:45Speaker 7: bowl games. Why wouldn't the bowl game and the advertisement
- 10:50Speaker 7: all become the championship game of the conference. So the
- 10:54Speaker 7: teams who win their conference, they you know, your game,
- 10:58Speaker 7: that's that, that's your bowl game, instead of trying to
- 11:01Speaker 7: play through a regular season, play your championship game.
- 11:05Speaker 3: And then now you're going out to play a bowl game.
- 11:08Speaker 3: That I you know the answer to that, come.
- 11:13Speaker 7: On, we gotta it's probably probably part of the revenue stream, right,
- 11:16Speaker 7: but but yeah.
- 11:17Speaker 3: But but does I mean at this point, I think
- 11:21Speaker 3: it's it's it's evident that that it's like bowl games
- 11:24Speaker 3: are not a big deal, you know, And and now
- 11:27Speaker 3: you're you're getting like five hundred team, a team that's
- 11:32Speaker 3: five hundred playing in the bowl game. And then you've
- 11:35Speaker 3: got players who are thinking about going to the pros
- 11:38Speaker 3: or or or hoping to go to the pros not
- 11:40Speaker 3: even playing. So now you don't have your best players.
- 11:44Speaker 7: And that's actually not a bad idea, I think what
- 11:48Speaker 7: you so what you're saying is like if you if
- 11:52Speaker 7: you make your conference championship, that just becomes a comfortable
- 11:55Speaker 7: But again, I think.
- 11:57Speaker 5: Every conference has a championships that I.
- 12:00Speaker 4: Think most of them do now most of them.
- 12:02Speaker 7: But the problem with that is like the five and five,
- 12:05Speaker 7: the five and five team, they need that money too,
- 12:08Speaker 7: and they ain't gonna get that money.
- 12:13Speaker 3: But where we're going now, you know, like I know,
- 12:19Speaker 3: this is not gonna get any better. This is gonna
- 12:21Speaker 3: just get because just think.
- 12:23Speaker 5: This will happen over and over. There'll be Marshalls everywhere.
- 12:26Speaker 4: Absolutely.
- 12:27Speaker 3: Marshall is just the first team that this has happened to.
- 12:31Speaker 3: But imagine another team with even a more notable name
- 12:35Speaker 3: coach and he leaves and they just won let's say
- 12:39Speaker 3: they won a championship, they won their conference, they did
- 12:42Speaker 3: all this and that, and he's leaving to go to
- 12:45Speaker 3: a better job. Are you staying behind? No, you're thinking maybe,
- 12:52Speaker 3: I don't even think it's maybe not. I'm not staying.
- 12:54Speaker 3: I'm going because I don't know who you're bringing in
- 12:57Speaker 3: and we can see local here.
- 13:00Speaker 4: Does it even matter who you bringing? What was the
- 13:03Speaker 4: guy's name? What was his name? Forrenetti?
- 13:06Speaker 5: You said I'd have to look at me, let me look.
- 13:08Speaker 7: Okay with a guy from the who made the statement
- 13:11Speaker 7: about punishing the schools. I see a situation in which
- 13:14Speaker 7: a coach doesn't leave. The coach is there, but what
- 13:18Speaker 7: happens is that they're going to this bowl game, and
- 13:20Speaker 7: then maybe you have your five five to six best
- 13:23Speaker 7: offensive players decide, hey, I'm not going to play because
- 13:26Speaker 7: I'm going to the pros or whatever. I just don't
- 13:27Speaker 7: want to play. It's not worth it. And then you
- 13:29Speaker 7: have your five or six best defensive guys not wanting
- 13:31Speaker 7: to play, and then the coach is looking around and saying, hey,
- 13:33Speaker 7: I don't have basically my top guys here, so let's
- 13:37Speaker 7: just not even do this. It's not worth me doing this,
- 13:40Speaker 7: So let's just go ahead and start stop here and
- 13:42Speaker 7: prepared for next season. I see a situation like that
- 13:44Speaker 7: which would for the gentlemen of the official from the
- 13:47Speaker 7: ACC comments can probably be pergnitant at that point. So
- 13:52Speaker 7: I see a situation like that happening in the future.
- 13:54Speaker 7: In addition to tim Pernetti, So I see a situation
- 13:57Speaker 7: like that happening which temper Pernetti's idea would probably be right,
- 14:03Speaker 7: and then there would be situations like Marshall as well.
- 14:06Speaker 3: So it's it's like you said, it's just gonna get
- 14:08Speaker 3: worse if you if you're a school, are you gonna
- 14:14Speaker 3: be over? I mean, do you want this? Do you
- 14:16Speaker 3: want so let's say, if you're a bold team, do
- 14:20Speaker 3: you want this to happen? I'm gonna say no. But
- 14:22Speaker 3: if I'm if I'm an if I'm not a bowl team,
- 14:25Speaker 3: but thinking maybe one day I can get there.
- 14:28Speaker 4: I'm supporting that. Is there a divide? Do you think
- 14:31Speaker 4: there's a huge divide?
- 14:32Speaker 7: Because the balls don't mean anything other than what you
- 14:34Speaker 7: what you're gonna just the revenue is going to generate
- 14:37Speaker 7: for your school. Like I said, West Virginia played last
- 14:39Speaker 7: night on a Tuesday without their best players, and it's
- 14:44Speaker 7: just this means nothing.
- 14:45Speaker 6: But you know, in a way it does mean something,
- 14:48Speaker 6: especially for a team like Marshall. That was one of
- 14:50Speaker 6: the best Bowl bids, the Independence Bowl that they've had
- 14:53Speaker 6: in recent memory. And you know now that we've got
- 14:57Speaker 6: the playoff and the champion in Ship system that we
- 15:01Speaker 6: have in place, you know, these Nonpower five schools, I mean,
- 15:05Speaker 6: we're left to get the crumbs, so to speak, to
- 15:08Speaker 6: eat the crumbs and so we have to take what
- 15:11Speaker 6: we get and appreciate it. And it was disappointing. I
- 15:15Speaker 6: think a lot of fans are disappointed, even though we
- 15:18Speaker 6: knew the team would not be exactly the same team
- 15:21Speaker 6: that played in the Sun Belt Championship, really not even close.
- 15:24Speaker 6: But still we were going to field a team and
- 15:26Speaker 6: we were going to a bowl game. And that's in reality,
- 15:30Speaker 6: some of the best that we're going to get. As
- 15:33Speaker 6: Thundering Herd fans, it's going to a bowl like that.
- 15:35Speaker 4: I had.
- 15:36Speaker 3: I have a group I have a group of of
- 15:39Speaker 3: former players that we text every morning, and it was
- 15:44Speaker 3: interesting to me to hear these guys talk about, like
- 15:50Speaker 3: how does this happen? Like how do you I mean,
- 15:52Speaker 3: cause it's like right, it was like, we're not playing
- 15:57Speaker 3: and we have an opportunity to be.
- 16:00Speaker 4: Playing in the Bowl and we aren't, and we're not.
- 16:02Speaker 3: We're we're now because we don't have enough players or
- 16:05Speaker 3: we don't have the quality of players because what because
- 16:09Speaker 3: the coach left and because the players left.
- 16:12Speaker 4: And now we can't go to the bowl.
- 16:14Speaker 7: Because they don't care about it that nobody cares about them.
- 16:18Speaker 7: Players do not care about them balls, They don't care
- 16:21Speaker 7: about the trinkets.
- 16:22Speaker 4: They don't care.
- 16:25Speaker 7: Yeah, but the players, And like I said, I think
- 16:27Speaker 7: you just need to make a separate playoff. I think
- 16:30Speaker 7: you need to have a non power five playoff.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Like you say when you say players playoff, when you
- 16:36Speaker 3: say no, when you say players don't care, and you
- 16:39Speaker 3: say coaches don't care, let me let me let me
- 16:44Speaker 3: try to define that a little bit down to something.
- 16:49Speaker 4: I'm gonna think that the head coach does it.
- 16:52Speaker 3: It doesn't matter to not all head coaches, but some
- 16:56Speaker 3: head coaches do not care because they're they're.
- 16:59Speaker 5: They're getting on their incentive clause.
- 17:01Speaker 3: Yes, and they're getting and they're getting recruited by another
- 17:04Speaker 3: team which is only going to be more money, which
- 17:06Speaker 3: is great for them.
- 17:07Speaker 4: They don't care.
- 17:08Speaker 3: So now all this and then the players, and then
- 17:11Speaker 3: your top players, because you can't tell me that a
- 17:15Speaker 3: backup did not want to play in that Bowl game.
- 17:17Speaker 5: What you know, and we're playing a story team.
- 17:20Speaker 6: I mean, I would think those players would have been
- 17:22Speaker 6: interested in trying to go out and defeat Army.
- 17:25Speaker 4: I mean, you know, Army had a good season to right, That's.
- 17:27Speaker 5: What I mean.
- 17:28Speaker 6: So it depends on your opponent as well, whether or
- 17:30Speaker 6: not they care about the.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Back I want to play, man, but you don't care
- 17:33Speaker 3: because you took a job before the bowl game knowing
- 17:36Speaker 3: that that part of that you're taking that job was
- 17:39Speaker 3: like I'm not going to coach the bowl game, and
- 17:42Speaker 3: you entered the transfer portal knowing that me entering this,
- 17:46Speaker 3: me being recruited again means that I'm not gonna play
- 17:49Speaker 3: in this bowl game.
- 17:49Speaker 4: You don't care about the game.
- 17:51Speaker 5: The game I can see where it's.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Not important to you. I'm not saying, let me let
- 17:57Speaker 4: me clarify.
- 17:57Speaker 7: I'm not saying you wouldn't liked to play, and I'm
- 18:00Speaker 7: not saying it's you know, it's maybe something you wouldn't
- 18:03Speaker 7: looking forward to, but it was obviously something more important
- 18:07Speaker 7: than that game. So again, I think we have to
- 18:10Speaker 7: find and again, and I'm not saying I'm not saying
- 18:13Speaker 7: to play. There's a cavalier and they just don't care
- 18:16Speaker 7: about playing. I'm saying, due to the timing of everything,
- 18:19Speaker 7: you have to make a decision, and obviously they made
- 18:21Speaker 7: a decision to leave as opposed to playing the game.
- 18:24Speaker 7: So I'm saying we have to either create a new
- 18:27Speaker 7: system where we're creating something that's more meaningful or we
- 18:30Speaker 7: have to work on the timing and making sure that
- 18:33Speaker 7: everything is done top of December. Football should be done
- 18:36Speaker 7: top of December.
- 18:38Speaker 3: I'm starting to think, because I'm trying to think, I
- 18:44Speaker 3: know for a fact that if I was in this
- 18:46Speaker 3: in this generation, you be in the trust, I would be.
- 18:49Speaker 3: I would be in the transfer because because I because
- 18:52Speaker 3: I know what it's about.
- 18:53Speaker 4: It's about the money and it's all that.
- 18:55Speaker 3: But when I go back and think about it and
- 18:58Speaker 3: say what I have left, you know, I mean, because
- 19:02Speaker 3: there were tons of guys who left Marshall because we
- 19:04Speaker 3: were losing and all that kind of stuff. Whether they
- 19:06Speaker 3: went and played there, well, well it didn't even matter either.
- 19:10Speaker 3: They might even just gave up football just because if
- 19:13Speaker 3: we were losing and they were just gonna transfer, go
- 19:16Speaker 3: somewhere and just be a student. Okay, I would have
- 19:19Speaker 3: never thought I would have I would have never thought
- 19:23Speaker 3: about leaving, no matter what the wins and losses were.
- 19:27Speaker 3: I was playing and I was gonna play hard for Marshall.
- 19:31Speaker 3: And now but this ain't no, that's I'm just saying.
- 19:36Speaker 3: I'm just trying to figure out, like, when did when
- 19:39Speaker 3: did when did this? When did the reality of nothing matters,
- 19:45Speaker 3: but me take over this co.
- 19:49Speaker 4: Created the n double A created is one hundred one.
- 19:55Speaker 6: Players are just taking advantage of the system they've been given.
- 19:57Speaker 5: I mean, you can't blame the player. I don't blame
- 19:59Speaker 5: the player.
- 20:00Speaker 4: I'm not even John.
- 20:01Speaker 5: Cuba needs to fix this.
- 20:03Speaker 6: They need to regulate it, do something, maybe even make
- 20:07Speaker 6: the players sit out a year.
- 20:08Speaker 5: I don't know that that might be too severe, but
- 20:10Speaker 5: they need to.
- 20:11Speaker 4: Figure it wasn't severe back in the day.
- 20:13Speaker 7: But basically, and again, the players weren't asking for nil. No,
- 20:17Speaker 7: they were not asking for this. The players were saying, Hey,
- 20:20Speaker 7: if you're gonna be at the podium after the game
- 20:23Speaker 7: with your soft drink in hand, which is paying you
- 20:27Speaker 7: to do that, coach, can I get a piece of that?
- 20:29Speaker 7: If you're gonna sell my jersey in the bookstore, can
- 20:32Speaker 7: I just get a piece of that?
- 20:34Speaker 4: The players?
- 20:34Speaker 7: If it's twenty ten, you could have literally played players five,
- 20:40Speaker 7: maybe anywhere from two thousand to five thousand on them
- 20:42Speaker 7: and they would have been happy and nobody. And again,
- 20:45Speaker 7: they probably would have been asking for a little bit more,
- 20:47Speaker 7: but they wouldn't have been asking for this.
- 20:50Speaker 5: It's unbelievable.
- 20:50Speaker 7: That's what I'm saying Ncuba screwed all this stuff, just
- 20:53Speaker 7: like our ec DOUBLEA here in West Virginia, they screwed
- 20:57Speaker 7: it up. So it's like, you know what I mean,
- 21:00Speaker 7: Like you wait so long to do something that you
- 21:02Speaker 7: should have done twenty thirty, forty years ago. Now at
- 21:05Speaker 7: this time, it's a free for all. So it's like
- 21:08Speaker 7: it's up to them to fix it now. So they
- 21:10Speaker 7: have to go back and fix this.
- 21:12Speaker 6: And even if they regulate it, here's a thought that
- 21:15Speaker 6: just crossed my mind. Uh oh, but even if they
- 21:18Speaker 6: fix it or regulate it, it's the smaller schools are
- 21:22Speaker 6: still going to suffer. There's no way, ever, I'm sorry,
- 21:26Speaker 6: there's no way that the smaller schools can come up
- 21:28Speaker 6: with the NIO money that these SEC schools can come
- 21:33Speaker 6: up with the bigger conferences, the big ten.
- 21:37Speaker 5: There's just not enough resources.
- 21:38Speaker 6: And so we're going to be in that continuous cycle
- 21:41Speaker 6: of bringing in those players that they overlook, the big
- 21:44Speaker 6: guys overlook at first, but they're talented players. They just
- 21:48Speaker 6: somehow they don't click with those teams. We cultivate them,
- 21:51Speaker 6: we develop them as players. We come up with a
- 21:54Speaker 6: good team. We put together a good team that wins
- 21:56Speaker 6: some conference championships, and what's going to happen every single time. Yeah,
- 22:00Speaker 6: they're going to deplete the team and we're going to
- 22:02Speaker 6: start all over. It's a continuous cycle. The bigger schools
- 22:05Speaker 6: are going to continue to grab those those smaller schools
- 22:08Speaker 6: that the players.
- 22:08Speaker 4: Act and coaches and coaches and.
- 22:10Speaker 6: Coaches, you're right, coaches as well, the ones that produce
- 22:13Speaker 6: and do well at these small schools, they'll they'll never.
- 22:16Speaker 5: Be any continuity like we had back in the nineties.
- 22:20Speaker 3: With that's that's that's that is really a good point
- 22:24Speaker 3: because everybody talks about continuity, whether it be through yet
- 22:29Speaker 3: to the coaching staff, from the coaching staff down to
- 22:32Speaker 3: the players, from players to player. If you don't have that,
- 22:35Speaker 3: you don't even have a team. So how now do
- 22:39Speaker 3: I transfer?
- 22:41Speaker 2: You know?
- 22:42Speaker 3: So I transfer from Marshall to Furman just because they're
- 22:45Speaker 3: going to give me some money and and I'm going
- 22:49Speaker 3: to probably be guaranteed to play. But I don't even
- 22:53Speaker 3: know how These are the guys I didn't even like
- 22:56Speaker 3: a year ago, but now I'm coming because strictly of
- 22:59Speaker 3: the money, right, And are they gonna be okay with me?
- 23:03Speaker 4: Yeah? I mean because because.
- 23:05Speaker 3: It's not like it's you're good like I don't know
- 23:09Speaker 3: if it's just like you just automatic like every player
- 23:12Speaker 3: that's gonna come in, you know how a team is
- 23:14Speaker 3: probably not.
- 23:15Speaker 4: And now you're going to have.
- 23:16Speaker 3: A guy that's gonna be And I'm gonna make the
- 23:18Speaker 3: case when you bring in that top guy, that that
- 23:21Speaker 3: high high dollar player. He's coming in with all the
- 23:26Speaker 3: expectations of I'm gonna start, I'm getting the most money.
- 23:31Speaker 6: It's probably part of his nil deal. So many starting
- 23:38Speaker 6: but I'm not coming.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Well, the question is would I come for the money
- 23:42Speaker 3: even if I'm not guaranteed.
- 23:43Speaker 4: To start percent I'm coming.
- 23:45Speaker 7: But the thing is with with you know how teams
- 23:47Speaker 7: can get clickie right, it's it's a group of those
- 23:50Speaker 7: guys coming into these teams. Now, It's not like it's
- 23:52Speaker 7: what this is coming in So it's like five or
- 23:54Speaker 7: ten guys coming in at a time. So we all buddy,
- 23:58Speaker 7: y'all came from the portal. So everybody may not be
- 24:02Speaker 7: getting paid the same, right, but y'all would transfers coming in.
- 24:05Speaker 7: So it's like now kids are now they're just used
- 24:08Speaker 7: to it now, so you're used to playing with new
- 24:10Speaker 7: guys every year. So like I said, it's just I
- 24:13Speaker 7: think that's just the way it's going to be until
- 24:15Speaker 7: it's fixed.
- 24:16Speaker 3: So as as much as I hate to even bring
- 24:19Speaker 3: this up as part of this, so what if we
- 24:26Speaker 3: start doing this in high school football in West Virginia.
- 24:30Speaker 4: What do you mean you're with with with money and
- 24:34Speaker 4: all of that in coming.
- 24:36Speaker 6: And I think it's already happening in such states.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Started and there's been talk about it trying to to
- 24:45Speaker 3: get it here.
- 24:45Speaker 7: But I think that's more like you can like seek endorsements.
- 24:49Speaker 7: I don't think the money is coming from like the
- 24:50Speaker 7: boosters in those other states.
- 24:53Speaker 3: But either way, where you how how many teams, Like.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Where are you gonna go?
- 25:02Speaker 3: Like right now, if you're saying I can go anywhere
- 25:06Speaker 3: I want, or who's I'm the best player on my team,
- 25:10Speaker 3: who's coming after me? Right, it's gonna be a team
- 25:13Speaker 3: up north. The best teams are gonna get the best guys.
- 25:17Speaker 3: They're gonna keep getting the best guy.
- 25:18Speaker 5: Here we go and.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Here we go. And there's a huge separation that you
- 25:22Speaker 4: create there.
- 25:22Speaker 7: And it just unless you got somebody with deep pockets
- 25:24Speaker 7: who's an alumni some some of the lower.
- 25:26Speaker 5: Schools, and that's the side part. That's the side part.
- 25:29Speaker 4: I don't. Well, let me just say this out right.
- 25:33Speaker 4: I'm not giving the school of money.
- 25:35Speaker 3: I'm not giving them any money for to pay a
- 25:37Speaker 3: high school athlete, college athletes. I'm not doing it. I will,
- 25:41Speaker 3: I did, I'm not doing it. I'm supporting.
- 25:43Speaker 7: Like I said, I if I have the money, if
- 25:45Speaker 7: I have the resources, and I did, right, I donated
- 25:49Speaker 7: money and went to the nil collective. So that's my school.
- 25:53Speaker 7: That's that's the game we plan. So why not I
- 25:56Speaker 7: want to see my school win. It's not like I
- 25:59Speaker 7: can do anything. I'm just too I'm just too old.
- 26:03Speaker 7: I it took me to get to the PROS to
- 26:06Speaker 7: get a dollar. But it's like, you're donating the money
- 26:08Speaker 7: to somebody's scholarship. Why not donate money to help them
- 26:12Speaker 7: be better?
- 26:13Speaker 4: Got scholarship? They making know that? That ain't it? That
- 26:16Speaker 4: ain't enough. So I'm saying, make it to the pros
- 26:18Speaker 4: and get that.
- 26:19Speaker 5: If you had, I agree.
- 26:20Speaker 7: If you had, what I'm saying is you had, you
- 26:22Speaker 7: had twenty thirty thousand dollars lying around you. You're not
- 26:25Speaker 7: gonna donate that to help you. No, I got a
- 26:27Speaker 7: grand I'm don well.
- 26:31Speaker 6: Isn't there a difference between donating to the school and
- 26:33Speaker 6: donating to players individually, right, Because if you would donate
- 26:37Speaker 6: twenty or thirty thousand to the school, the school would
- 26:41Speaker 6: you know, kind of apply that to the facilities to
- 26:46Speaker 6: you know, just making the facilities better, not paying an individual.
- 26:52Speaker 4: Ear market to their collective.
- 26:55Speaker 6: But then that's going to involve parents because you've got
- 26:57Speaker 6: most of your high school kids are under the age
- 27:00Speaker 6: of eighteen.
- 27:00Speaker 7: Right, I'm not talking I'm talking about college. I'm not
- 27:03Speaker 7: talking about.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, no, because now I'm asking what do we do,
- 27:12Speaker 3: what if we do if it shows up.
- 27:13Speaker 4: In high school?
- 27:14Speaker 7: But I think this structure high school is different. I
- 27:16Speaker 7: don't think it's going to the boosters and the boosters
- 27:18Speaker 7: is paying the kid directly. I think, you know, it's
- 27:21Speaker 7: that kid has the ability to sell items or sell
- 27:24Speaker 7: his image, you know what I mean. I don't think
- 27:26Speaker 7: it's like college.
- 27:26Speaker 3: So you're saying if a store, if I'm a big
- 27:29Speaker 3: enough high school athlete, if Gatorade wanted to pay you
- 27:33Speaker 3: money to do a commercial, you could do it, okay.
- 27:36Speaker 7: As opposed to college, A lot of the money is
- 27:38Speaker 7: coming directly or indirectly through this.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Do we have that that athlete? I mean, because you're
- 27:46Speaker 3: talking about a Robert Alexander, you're talking about a Kurt Warner,
- 27:48Speaker 3: You're talking about a Randy Moss. You're talking about somebody
- 27:51Speaker 3: a high school athlete that is that is phenomenal, phenomenal,
- 27:56Speaker 3: And we don't like those guys don't come every.
- 27:59Speaker 4: Year, may not have this year, but it'll be one
- 28:01Speaker 4: out there.
- 28:02Speaker 7: It'll be some kids out there who's because because the
- 28:05Speaker 7: thing about it is it's not necessarily what you're always
- 28:08Speaker 7: doing on the field. It could be a kid out
- 28:10Speaker 7: there who's a decent ball player, but he's great on
- 28:13Speaker 7: social media. He got hundreds of thousands. You had the
- 28:15Speaker 7: guy him at South Charleston, right, he played football. He
- 28:18Speaker 7: has millions of followers on social media. He would be
- 28:21Speaker 7: the perfect example of that, you know what I mean.
- 28:23Speaker 7: He probably okay on the field, a social media is
- 28:27Speaker 7: going crazy.
- 28:27Speaker 3: So but again, you don't even need to pay him
- 28:30Speaker 3: because he's making it off of.
- 28:33Speaker 4: But why not paying if somebody want to pay and
- 28:36Speaker 4: keep the promote the ball? Yeah, why not? I think
- 28:40Speaker 4: that's where it's coming.
- 28:43Speaker 5: I think it's I think it's bad enough.
- 28:44Speaker 6: It's at the collegiate level, and if we get we
- 28:46Speaker 6: give that route in high school.
- 28:48Speaker 5: I don't know. I just it's it's kind of it's scary.
- 28:54Speaker 5: It's scary to me.
- 28:55Speaker 4: But I think it.
- 28:56Speaker 3: I think we we really ruined teamwork and the and
- 29:04Speaker 3: the and the bond that I think that comes with
- 29:08Speaker 3: high school and collegiate sports. I'm chasing money, not I'm not.
- 29:14Speaker 3: You know, I don't even care to leave. You know,
- 29:16Speaker 3: a group of guys that I played two years, three
- 29:19Speaker 3: years with, I'm gonna leave it as a senior. I'm
- 29:21Speaker 3: gonna go play somewhere else because I'm gonna get some money.
- 29:24Speaker 3: I'm gonna leave these guys, and I'm gonna go try
- 29:27Speaker 3: to fit in for one season at a school that
- 29:32Speaker 3: I mean, I've already I didn't even like that I
- 29:34Speaker 3: played against. But but now they're knocking on my door.
- 29:37Speaker 3: What am I gonna do? I'm i gotta go.
- 29:39Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 29:39Speaker 6: And just to remember, you know, whatever everyone always has said,
- 29:43Speaker 6: there is no I in team and and football is
- 29:45Speaker 6: is team oriented, and and we're moving away from the
- 29:49Speaker 6: teamwork part of it and individualizing it. We're glorifying the
- 29:54Speaker 6: individual players rather than the schools and the teams, which
- 29:57Speaker 6: is the way that it was when.
- 29:59Speaker 3: We were And what's scary to to that valid point
- 30:03Speaker 3: is Hollis is like, Okay, so let's say I'm on,
- 30:08Speaker 3: I'm playing at South truston and I'm and I'm good,
- 30:13Speaker 3: you know, at least let me make the case.
- 30:14Speaker 4: I think I'm good.
- 30:16Speaker 3: You know, I've scored some touchdowns, I've got some interceptions,
- 30:19Speaker 3: I've done some some of this, and I and I
- 30:22Speaker 3: want I want some inn I ow money, you know,
- 30:25Speaker 3: and if I don't get it, you know, maybe somebody
- 30:28Speaker 3: else is gonna offer to me.
- 30:31Speaker 4: But I might be the only key player that we have.
- 30:36Speaker 3: I don't even care about that. I don't care about you.
- 30:40Speaker 4: You know.
- 30:41Speaker 3: Let's say I'm your receiver, and and and and and
- 30:43Speaker 3: you're and I'm the only guy you can throw the
- 30:45Speaker 3: ball to. I ain't thinking about you. To me, They're like,
- 30:53Speaker 3: there are guys that you like bond with on the
- 30:56Speaker 3: tee and I know that that is that what kills
- 30:58Speaker 3: me is that is gone.
- 31:00Speaker 4: I can remember playing in the pros.
- 31:02Speaker 3: I can remember playing at Marshall, losing and dealing with
- 31:05Speaker 3: guys knowing that we're losing, knowing that we're going into
- 31:07Speaker 3: a game losing, but bonding together saying like, man, look,
- 31:11Speaker 3: let's go play as hard as we can play. Let's
- 31:13Speaker 3: go out and try to get this w knowing that
- 31:15Speaker 3: we probably not going to get it.
- 31:16Speaker 7: Ain't no Iron team, it ain't no Iron bond, but
- 31:19Speaker 7: it's an iron win. The definition and the definition, Yeah,
- 31:27Speaker 7: the definition of what a win is to these kids
- 31:31Speaker 7: is different than what it win a win was to us.
- 31:34Speaker 7: And if you're a senior at Marshall and you've done
- 31:37Speaker 7: all the things and you got glory, and you helped
- 31:40Speaker 7: the team, you built bonds, and Marshall can only afford
- 31:43Speaker 7: to pay you twenty five thirty thousand a year, you're
- 31:46Speaker 7: really good. And then Ohio University or Miami, Ohio or
- 31:50Speaker 7: whoever Southern miss can say, hey, for this one year
- 31:56Speaker 7: you got left, I'm gonna give you one hundred and
- 31:57Speaker 7: fifty grand.
- 31:59Speaker 4: You're going to get that. I'm I'm going. I'm so.
- 32:02Speaker 7: The definition of what a win was back in the
- 32:05Speaker 7: day is different than what a win is now.
- 32:08Speaker 4: And you know it's bad.
- 32:09Speaker 3: What I think is bad about that is the adults
- 32:13Speaker 3: in the room and those who supposedly should be protecting
- 32:18Speaker 3: and making the game better. This is this is their fault.
- 32:23Speaker 3: This is all their fault. They created this mess and
- 32:26Speaker 3: and and all that that you taught me about teamwork
- 32:30Speaker 3: and all that kind of stuff. You have now put
- 32:34Speaker 3: put a product out there that makes me say, I
- 32:36Speaker 3: don't have to worry about you, or at least all
- 32:38Speaker 3: I'm worried about is just me.
- 32:40Speaker 7: Because they were greedy initially, the NCAA coaches, athletic departments, administrations,
- 32:47Speaker 7: they were all greedy. They wanted everything for themselves when
- 32:52Speaker 7: all they had to do is just sprinkle a little
- 32:54Speaker 7: crumbs to these players and everything would have been consistent
- 32:57Speaker 7: to how it was back then. But now out the cats,
- 33:00Speaker 7: out the bag, and everybody wants their piece. But I
- 33:03Speaker 7: think what you said earlier, I think if that if
- 33:06Speaker 7: we just started there of give me a couple thousands.
- 33:10Speaker 3: If you're a senior you get X number. Yeah, okay,
- 33:14Speaker 3: if you are a junior you get X number. Sophomore
- 33:17Speaker 3: freshmen you get whatever comes in. That's what that that's
- 33:21Speaker 3: the pay scale, okay. And that could be ten thousand
- 33:25Speaker 3: down to two thousand, okay. And that's all they were asking.
- 33:28Speaker 3: And I think everything would have been fine.
- 33:33Speaker 4: All right, we got house, this gotta go. Let's take
- 33:36Speaker 4: a quick break and we'll be right back.

- 34:38Speaker 2: Now back through the conversation.
- 34:40Speaker 4: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we had.
- 34:44Speaker 3: Just a crazy quick second there with Holli's exiting.
- 34:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 34:50Speaker 3: And what that shows is is we kind of get
- 34:52Speaker 3: into conversations and if you were supposed to be leaving
- 34:54Speaker 3: at a certain time, you may forget it.
- 34:56Speaker 4: So he forgot it.
- 34:57Speaker 5: It looks like a oh collegiate days on the field,
- 34:59Speaker 5: didn't he?
- 35:00Speaker 4: Yes, he was. He was actually quite mobile.
- 35:03Speaker 6: Uh.

- 35:15Speaker 4: So at least to talk to me.
- 35:20Speaker 5: You yes, yes, yes, so.
- 35:25Speaker 4: Help me.
- 35:27Speaker 3: I just want to go back just a second, and
- 35:28Speaker 3: then you can jump into your in the into your note.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Sure.
- 35:34Speaker 3: I don't know if if you can have a team
- 35:36Speaker 3: sport right, I don't care what it is. How do
- 35:41Speaker 3: you create an individual, individualized system for me to get
- 35:53Speaker 3: I'm gonna work as hard as I can to be
- 35:55Speaker 3: the best player so I can get them, maybe just
- 35:57Speaker 3: because I want to get the money, and so maybe
- 36:00Speaker 3: you think you're just as good as me. And now
- 36:03Speaker 3: we have this issue between us, how do you is
- 36:07Speaker 3: there any way to is there any way to prevent
- 36:10Speaker 3: that or is that going to happen.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Do we care? Do these kids care who's making the most.
- 36:15Speaker 5: Or Oh yeah, that's a good point.
- 36:17Speaker 6: I really I haven't really considered that, but you know,
- 36:20Speaker 6: at some point, I'm sure they're aware of who's making
- 36:25Speaker 6: the most money on the team. I know, you know,
- 36:31Speaker 6: the collegiate world is like that. I'm sure the players
- 36:34Speaker 6: are very aware of who's getting what on their team.
- 36:38Speaker 5: And that's got to be an issue.
- 36:40Speaker 6: You know, they all they all want to be the
- 36:45Speaker 6: best and make the most money, and so they're going
- 36:48Speaker 6: to be instead of working together.
- 36:50Speaker 5: As a team.
- 36:51Speaker 6: To me, that may create some i want to say,
- 36:55Speaker 6: like tensions between players and they may not gel as
- 37:00Speaker 6: well on the field.
- 37:01Speaker 3: And here's the thing, they don't say it. I'm not
- 37:04Speaker 3: gonna say. You know, I'm gonna act around you. Every
- 37:07Speaker 3: time I'm around you, I'm gonna act kind of normal, normal,
- 37:10Speaker 3: but I'm mad because you're getting more than I'm getting.
- 37:13Speaker 5: Exactly see. I think that play on the field, and I.
- 37:17Speaker 3: Think even more so on the high school level because
- 37:20Speaker 3: there there younger immature and they want to be the
- 37:25Speaker 3: I mean, who doesn't want to be the best.
- 37:26Speaker 4: Player on your high school team?
- 37:27Speaker 3: Sure, and if let's just say, we got a team
- 37:30Speaker 3: that's really good, all of a sudden we throw money
- 37:33Speaker 3: into that. Now parents are going to try to decide
- 37:39Speaker 3: if my kid is better than your kid?
- 37:41Speaker 5: Right, and you really have some issues.
- 37:44Speaker 3: See I think all of I think we're inviting all
- 37:46Speaker 3: of that into the into the.
- 37:49Speaker 6: Equation that doesn't need to be a player, does not
- 37:51Speaker 6: need to be I mean, it is bad enough. We
- 37:52Speaker 6: have the transfer portal at the high school level, in
- 37:55Speaker 6: my opinion, with no ramifications. They can just switch it.
- 37:58Speaker 6: Will You know that that's an issue in itself. And
- 38:02Speaker 6: you throw in il in the mix. You talk about
- 38:06Speaker 6: a powder keg waiting to go off. That is exactly
- 38:09Speaker 6: what it's going to be, because like you said, they're kids.
- 38:12Speaker 6: It's going to be the parents, the guardians, the ones
- 38:15Speaker 6: that understand what's going on with Nil more so than
- 38:19Speaker 6: the kids that are going to be the ones that.
- 38:21Speaker 4: I'm gonna want my kids. I'm automatically thinking my kid
- 38:24Speaker 4: is better.
- 38:24Speaker 3: Than your exactly and I heard that you're making twenty
- 38:29Speaker 3: five thousand a season.
- 38:32Speaker 4: Well wait a minute, wait a minute, right, he is better?
- 38:36Speaker 3: Absolutely, Yeah, So we need to have a conversation.
- 38:39Speaker 4: And if we don't have a conversation. Then you know
- 38:41Speaker 4: what I'm doing.
- 38:42Speaker 3: I'm looking to see if I can go to another
- 38:44Speaker 3: team that's gonna pay me more than what I'm getting here.
- 38:47Speaker 6: And then that's also going to play into especially at
- 38:50Speaker 6: the high school level, the socioeconomics, yes, factors that play
- 38:54Speaker 6: into schools and districts.
- 38:55Speaker 5: As it is.
- 38:56Speaker 6: As it is, it's already a problem, and you're just
- 39:00Speaker 6: gonna add fuel to the fire. I mean, it's it's
- 39:02Speaker 6: it's it's scary, and I think it's coming.
- 39:04Speaker 5: That's the bad part. Like I said, it's almost like
- 39:07Speaker 5: it's like it's like.
- 39:11Speaker 4: You're standing there.
- 39:12Speaker 6: Just you can't move because it's all coming and and
- 39:15Speaker 6: and it's ruining. It's ruining things. It's ruining football in
- 39:19Speaker 6: my opinion. And I know Hollis would disagree.
- 39:22Speaker 4: But yes, I'm I'm with you.
- 39:24Speaker 3: And and again I want to make sure if please
- 39:27Speaker 3: message me, if you have a conversation about this, if
- 39:32Speaker 3: you have a positive side to it that you want
- 39:34Speaker 3: to you want to express, you can.
- 39:37Speaker 4: You can reach out. It's on my.
- 39:39Speaker 3: Facebook page, Curly or let's talk with Crale either one,
- 39:44Speaker 3: because most people are on the on the cral leg
- 39:46Speaker 3: when so just go to the messager, send me a
- 39:50Speaker 3: message telling me a little bit about what you think,
- 39:53Speaker 3: because I'm curious about what what parents are thinking, what
- 39:59Speaker 3: former app lets are thinking, you know, engin what does
- 40:02Speaker 3: the general public.
- 40:03Speaker 4: Think about it?
- 40:04Speaker 3: Right, Because I think everybody has their own little piece
- 40:07Speaker 3: of interest as much as much as they're you know,
- 40:11Speaker 3: you know playing. You know, a kid's got an issue.
- 40:14Speaker 3: Parents got a thought process, and then the fan has
- 40:17Speaker 3: a process, and then the person who's like just hearing
- 40:19Speaker 3: about this, they're going to have a side, right, And
- 40:22Speaker 3: I'm curious to see what those sides are.
- 40:24Speaker 6: Yeah, I would like to hear the other the other
- 40:27Speaker 6: side of it too as well, because we're kind of
- 40:29Speaker 6: in agreement on this. But here, here's here's my here's
- 40:32Speaker 6: my overall thought about all of this.
- 40:35Speaker 5: If the high schools decide.
- 40:37Speaker 6: To go that route and they handle it even half
- 40:43Speaker 6: as as bad as the NCAA has handled it, you're
- 40:47Speaker 6: going to have a complete mess at that level.
- 40:49Speaker 4: Can you Well, here's my thing.
- 40:51Speaker 3: How do you handle it when let's say you got
- 40:56Speaker 3: schools that are in certain areas that don't have exactly access.
- 41:02Speaker 4: To businesses and such and such that can.
- 41:05Speaker 5: Donate my economic factors there and.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Then you've got other places that can you know, there's
- 41:11Speaker 3: all kinds of money around and people are willing to
- 41:14Speaker 3: throw money at the school.
- 41:17Speaker 6: When you look at those schools or right now, it's
- 41:19Speaker 6: a perfect example, even though we don't have nil but
- 41:21Speaker 6: you've got Martinsburg, You've got you know, spring Mills are
- 41:27Speaker 6: all in the northern, like you said, the northern part
- 41:28Speaker 6: of the state that has more access to everything business wise,
- 41:35Speaker 6: you know, all the metro things that go along with
- 41:37Speaker 6: being near a big city like DC.
- 41:39Speaker 5: And then you've got teams that are in Clay.
- 41:41Speaker 6: County or in you know, the southern part of the
- 41:45Speaker 6: state that doesn't have all the access.
- 41:48Speaker 4: And can a high school really bring you a whole
- 41:52Speaker 4: lot of advertising?
- 41:54Speaker 5: No, I don't buy I.
- 41:56Speaker 4: Don't buy that.
- 41:57Speaker 3: I mean you could, you could pick on the events
- 41:59Speaker 3: you can, but most people already.
- 42:02Speaker 5: Know or in the program.
- 42:07Speaker 3: Really isn't So it's not even really it is all
- 42:11Speaker 3: about trying to build your your sports team, sure, based
- 42:15Speaker 3: on players outside of your area period, right You're just
- 42:20Speaker 3: trying to bring new players in just so that you can.
- 42:25Speaker 4: Throw your your program with team with players outside of
- 42:28Speaker 4: your area.
- 42:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm just taking somewhere no, No, I mean I.
- 42:35Speaker 6: Think, just to sum it up, I really feel like
- 42:38Speaker 6: I just hope that lest I mean, I've heard whispers.
- 42:41Speaker 6: I don't know if you have that the legislature's considering this,
- 42:43Speaker 6: like this is something that could be real in West Virginia.
- 42:46Speaker 3: How do you not, Okay, but Lisa, how do you
- 42:48Speaker 3: not look at this and see all the confusion behind
- 42:51Speaker 3: it and all of the issues that come with it, Like,
- 42:53Speaker 3: how do you.
- 42:54Speaker 6: Just like, I don't think they are I don't want
- 42:58Speaker 6: to think they think it's good. Don't want to sound callous,
- 43:00Speaker 6: but I don't think they care. I think they only
- 43:02Speaker 6: care about who it's affecting personally in their own little world,
- 43:07Speaker 6: in their own little high school worlds. And so when
- 43:10Speaker 6: you when you don't look at the big picture and
- 43:12Speaker 6: you don't consider, like what we were talking about, the
- 43:15Speaker 6: schools that don't have the access to to the to
- 43:18Speaker 6: the metro areas and the businesses and the money and
- 43:22Speaker 6: so forth. When you don't look at the whole big picture,
- 43:26Speaker 6: it doesn't sound so horrible because you're just thinking about
- 43:30Speaker 6: those schools that already have access to everything. You're not
- 43:33Speaker 6: looking at the whole thing.
- 43:35Speaker 5: Does that make sense?
- 43:36Speaker 6: It does, and I don't know how you do that.
- 43:41Speaker 6: I mean, especially as you know, if that's something they're considering.
- 43:43Speaker 6: I'm not throwing the legislature under the bus, but if
- 43:46Speaker 6: that's something they're looking at, they need to look at
- 43:48Speaker 6: the big picture.
- 43:49Speaker 3: They have to see, they have to It's just like
- 43:51Speaker 3: the transfer period. This was somebody who pushed this through
- 43:57Speaker 3: simply for his own benefit, his own team.
- 44:02Speaker 4: That's all that mattered.
- 44:03Speaker 3: All that mattered to him was to get his child
- 44:09Speaker 3: an opportunity to go and swim somewhere else.
- 44:14Speaker 6: That's right, And we've come full circle, and that that's
- 44:17Speaker 6: what we what we've been saying all along. The problem
- 44:20Speaker 6: that we're facing with football, is it as a team
- 44:23Speaker 6: sport that's becoming individualized.
- 44:25Speaker 3: Yes, yes, because because of an an individualized sport, right
- 44:32Speaker 3: wants to go somewhere else, right, and you let them.
- 44:36Speaker 3: And now all of a sudden, everybody's saying, well, hey,
- 44:38Speaker 3: wait a.
- 44:38Speaker 5: Minute, you if you did that, that can happen.
- 44:41Speaker 4: We can do that.
- 44:43Speaker 3: And I don't think anybody saw it when they were
- 44:46Speaker 3: saying yes.
- 44:47Speaker 4: We can go, I don't.
- 44:48Speaker 3: I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm
- 44:52Speaker 3: gonna give the benefit of the doubt that they weren't
- 44:54Speaker 3: expecting like this would go this crazy.
- 44:57Speaker 5: I don't know how you couldn't expect that.
- 44:59Speaker 4: I don't either, but I'm gonna give them the benefit
- 45:01Speaker 4: of the doubt.
- 45:02Speaker 3: But as soon as it started, you should have you
- 45:04Speaker 3: should have jumped in and started thinking about how do
- 45:07Speaker 3: we how do we cap this, how do we do
- 45:09Speaker 3: something to slow it down? But you've now you've ruined
- 45:12Speaker 3: football programs like total that what you're over what you
- 45:17Speaker 3: what you oversee, you have ruined programs specifically because.
- 45:24Speaker 4: Right of this.
- 45:26Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely, this is crazy. It's all. It's all. I
- 45:31Speaker 5: don't even know how to describe it.
- 45:33Speaker 6: I have no words, but I mean, like I said,
- 45:35Speaker 6: going back to what we said about Marshall, think about Marshall. There,
- 45:38Speaker 6: there's no way, no way, there's they'll ever be able
- 45:43Speaker 6: to be a Cinderella in that championship brackets in future
- 45:49Speaker 6: because every time they get a team that gets close
- 45:51Speaker 6: to even sniffing the top twelve, Yep, they're gonna they're
- 45:55Speaker 6: gonna be destroyed by the bigger schools. They're going to
- 45:57Speaker 6: take those players and run. And that's exactly what it's
- 46:00Speaker 6: going to happen. And so, like I said, the teams
- 46:01Speaker 6: that the Georgia's the Alabata, they'll get stronger and stronger
- 46:04Speaker 6: from this. And all of us are just we're just
- 46:07Speaker 6: you know, foraging for the scraps that are thrown to
- 46:09Speaker 6: us in both games.
- 46:11Speaker 5: Yes, that don't matter.
- 46:12Speaker 3: And and to Hollis's point, and I and I will
- 46:15Speaker 3: I will somewhat agree that you can't. You know, you
- 46:19Speaker 3: can't blame the coach for taking a higher paid job,
- 46:23Speaker 3: right And if there's money out there for players, you
- 46:26Speaker 3: can't necessarily, no, you can't keep them from wanting to
- 46:32Speaker 3: chase the money because it's there. You put it out there.
- 46:37Speaker 3: But there's no loyalty here. But you're creating no loyalty.
- 46:40Speaker 3: You're not creating team, you're not creating anything. But I
- 46:44Speaker 3: just hope I'm just the best player because if I'm
- 46:46Speaker 3: the best player, man, I've got a shot to get money.
- 46:50Speaker 6: Well, I just thought of something, try to lighten the
- 46:52Speaker 6: mood a little bit. But you know how whenever you
- 46:54Speaker 6: guys are introduced in the NFL and you they say
- 46:57Speaker 6: their name, their position, and what school they went to. Yes,
- 46:59Speaker 6: can you imagine what's going to be like in ten years?
- 47:02Speaker 2: Uh?
- 47:02Speaker 6: They're gonna name like Marshall Southern miss Alabama. I mean,
- 47:06Speaker 6: you know it's I mean, because that's the reality.
- 47:09Speaker 5: He's going to be anywhere for an, you know, the
- 47:12Speaker 5: whole period.
- 47:13Speaker 3: Of their career, because everybody's going to be recruiting from
- 47:16Speaker 3: what's already there. That's why I'm saying high school, high
- 47:18Speaker 3: school athletics. Yeah, it's going to be really a huge
- 47:23Speaker 3: challenge because why are you going to try to get
- 47:25Speaker 3: a high school athlete, a high school quarterback, a high
- 47:29Speaker 3: school lineman.
- 47:30Speaker 4: Unless they're literally like really good.
- 47:34Speaker 3: You're gonna you're gonna be if you can find one
- 47:36Speaker 3: in the portal and pay them.
- 47:38Speaker 4: You know, that's what's gonna happen.
- 47:40Speaker 6: I think it's what's gonna happen is you're more affluent
- 47:44Speaker 6: area schools that have.
- 47:48Speaker 5: The students that their parents are.
- 47:50Speaker 6: In lucrative, more lucrative careers than other areas are going
- 47:54Speaker 6: to be the ones that profit from this.
- 47:56Speaker 4: Absolutely absolutely.
- 47:58Speaker 3: All Right, Well, I know you had some so I
- 48:00Speaker 3: want to make sure we good.
- 48:02Speaker 5: We'll just go north a little bit here.
- 48:04Speaker 6: We go north and south all the time in West
- 48:06Speaker 6: Virginia when we talk on the show. But yeah, I
- 48:08Speaker 6: just wanted to touch base on the Frisco Ball. It
- 48:10Speaker 6: kind of ties into what we were talking about with
- 48:12Speaker 6: Moleseason in general, because you know, w rolls into the
- 48:15Speaker 6: Frisco Ball with an interim coach, right, some of their
- 48:19Speaker 6: players decided, you know, not to take part in the game.
- 48:23Speaker 5: There were even some players that.
- 48:25Speaker 6: Before the game I saw on social media were wearing
- 48:28Speaker 6: shirts that insinuated that they still supported Neil Brown.
- 48:33Speaker 5: So that threw some controversy into the whole mix.
- 48:36Speaker 6: But they go and they played Memphis, who was ranking
- 48:39Speaker 6: number twenty five, and of course they come out flat
- 48:43Speaker 6: first quarter as expected, and they were down seventeen to
- 48:47Speaker 6: nothing before even the second quarter began. They did clawback
- 48:51Speaker 6: and fight their way to make it a more interesting game,
- 48:56Speaker 6: but they ended up losing, and they end their season
- 48:58Speaker 6: at six and seven at a bowl game. So they
- 49:02Speaker 6: had a losing season because they were what we've talked
- 49:06Speaker 6: about all along. They were six and six or yeah,
- 49:08Speaker 6: six and six rollings into that game, so they ended
- 49:10Speaker 6: up six and seven. But we do have rich Rod
- 49:16Speaker 6: coming in and I think that I know last week
- 49:20Speaker 6: we talked a little bit Carl about how the fan
- 49:22Speaker 6: base feels and we felt like it was, or at
- 49:25Speaker 6: least I thought it was a fifty to fifty sort
- 49:26Speaker 6: of thing. But I think once he was introduced, and
- 49:31Speaker 6: of course he's got charisma and personality.
- 49:33Speaker 5: I don't know if you know much about rich Brod.
- 49:35Speaker 6: But he's he's he's sharp, he's witty, and he knows
- 49:40Speaker 6: he's a good coach.
- 49:40Speaker 5: He's a good coach. Yes, he's a good coach.
- 49:42Speaker 6: And so I think after his presentation as the new HC,
- 49:46Speaker 6: and also having Pat McAfee in town and former players,
- 49:51Speaker 6: I feel like that's kind of maybe kind of shifted
- 49:54Speaker 6: a little bit. We've got more of a seventy five
- 49:57Speaker 6: four twenty five against there's you've got some hard corps
- 50:00Speaker 6: that until he wins a national championship, they're never going
- 50:03Speaker 6: to buy into him. But I feel like he's swinging
- 50:06Speaker 6: that momentum toward in favor of him.
- 50:11Speaker 3: Well, okay, let's say I give you that. Okay, all right,
- 50:17Speaker 3: Now we go three games and we're one in two.
- 50:22Speaker 5: Oh, that's reality that could happen.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Because a lot of times in the early part of
- 50:26Speaker 3: the season, you have your your what we call money games, right,
- 50:29Speaker 3: so games that.
- 50:30Speaker 4: You're making money and the smallest set him.
- 50:33Speaker 3: But in most cases that the expectation is you're going
- 50:36Speaker 3: to play a good game and get some money.
- 50:38Speaker 5: And everybody goes home, everybody.
- 50:39Speaker 4: Goes home happy. But you're one in, you're one in
- 50:43Speaker 4: two early.
- 50:47Speaker 3: Is the fan base is the is Morgantown's fan base
- 50:55Speaker 3: patient enough to not go crazy and or be able
- 51:02Speaker 3: to say, Okay, these games are just they're just money games,
- 51:05Speaker 3: and let us wait until we get into the conference.
- 51:09Speaker 4: Are they really willing to wait that long? And or
- 51:12Speaker 4: do they know that that's the reality of it.
- 51:16Speaker 6: I think if it were any other coach but Rich
- 51:18Speaker 6: Rod that I would say yes. But I think because
- 51:22Speaker 6: of his history, I think because he's so controversial, and
- 51:26Speaker 6: because it's so polarizing right now as far as whether
- 51:30Speaker 6: you love him or you don't love him. That's a
- 51:33Speaker 6: nice way to put it. There are some games that
- 51:36Speaker 6: are just non negotiable.
- 51:37Speaker 5: Pit is one of them. Pit is one of them.
- 51:39Speaker 5: If he loses the Pit, the talk's gonna start right
- 51:42Speaker 5: out of the gate.
- 51:43Speaker 3: Well, I think that Wu's always had that Penn State. Yes,
- 51:47Speaker 3: those kind of rival games that there's for whatever reason,
- 51:51Speaker 3: it's supposed to win, and in a lot of cases
- 51:53Speaker 3: they weren't really well Penn State.
- 51:56Speaker 5: Definitely, we weren't competitors.
- 51:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean that was just when we beat them
- 52:00Speaker 6: was a big deal because that didn't happen off right.
- 52:02Speaker 3: And so I don't understand like why the fan base
- 52:06Speaker 3: gets upset when you lose those types of games. I mean,
- 52:08Speaker 3: there's just there are some games that you're just not
- 52:11Speaker 3: you know that that that.
- 52:12Speaker 5: Kind of like Michigan and Ohio State.
- 52:14Speaker 6: Yes, I mean, you know, reality is I mean, you
- 52:17Speaker 6: could lose, you could you could be the best coach
- 52:18Speaker 6: ever at Ohio State or Michigan, and if you keep
- 52:21Speaker 6: losing to the other, you're set.
- 52:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:25Speaker 6: In fact, I think Ryan is Ryan Day is that
- 52:27Speaker 6: who the Oho State coaches. I think he was on
- 52:29Speaker 6: the hot seat for losing to Michigan this year for
- 52:31Speaker 6: a bit. And I think, you know, if he doesn't
- 52:34Speaker 6: do well in the he could be in trouble.
- 52:36Speaker 4: And and see, and I just I understand.
- 52:41Speaker 3: I think I understand the reality of you know, Morgantown
- 52:48Speaker 3: fans like.
- 52:49Speaker 5: You know, passionate.
- 52:51Speaker 4: Yeah, they're passionate, like they love it.
- 52:54Speaker 3: And and every season in the offseason they're already talking
- 52:58Speaker 3: about the next season and and the expectations that they
- 53:02Speaker 3: have real or not. To them, it's real. But if
- 53:09Speaker 3: you're the coach, if you're the organization, you may not
- 53:14Speaker 3: be able. You may not be looking at that. You're like, Okay,
- 53:17Speaker 3: we're losing this player who's going to be a critical player.
- 53:19Speaker 3: We haven't got a player to replace him, whether that quarterback.
- 53:22Speaker 6: Of electric transfer portal, Like.
- 53:28Speaker 3: There's so much now that is going to make the
- 53:32Speaker 3: determination of whether.
- 53:33Speaker 2: Or not.
- 53:36Speaker 4: You can win.
- 53:37Speaker 3: And again, I'm not sure that WVU is gonna no
- 53:42Speaker 3: different than Marshall. I don't know if they're going to
- 53:44Speaker 3: be able to go into the portal and just be
- 53:46Speaker 3: the the dominant team in the portal.
- 53:49Speaker 4: I just don't think that. I think there are other
- 53:51Speaker 4: schools that just.
- 53:52Speaker 3: Have way more money offer to offer than than we do,
- 53:58Speaker 3: whether that's.
- 53:59Speaker 4: WVU or yeah.
- 54:00Speaker 6: And I thought it was interesting something that I came
- 54:03Speaker 6: across about rim Baker, and that was something that was
- 54:07Speaker 6: very high on the list when it came to their
- 54:09Speaker 6: interviewing of candidates for head coach. There is that he
- 54:12Speaker 6: wanted someone entrenched in the knowledge of what West Virginia
- 54:17Speaker 6: football is about. And it's kind of what you're saying, Carl,
- 54:19Speaker 6: what it's about is these fans. I think West Virginia
- 54:24Speaker 6: is special in a way. Of course it is special,
- 54:26Speaker 6: but I think it's the w fans are special in
- 54:28Speaker 6: a way that we don't have a pro team here
- 54:30Speaker 6: in this state. And West Virginia, unlike Marshall, carries the
- 54:35Speaker 6: name of the state in all of its apparel. It's
- 54:38Speaker 6: it's uniform, it represents the state. I mean reality, that's
- 54:42Speaker 6: people are attracted to.
- 54:43Speaker 5: That in our state.
- 54:44Speaker 6: They spend a lot of money, money that our state
- 54:47Speaker 6: doesn't typically have to go enjoy football games in Morgantown.
- 54:51Speaker 6: I mean, you think about it. It's got a big
- 54:55Speaker 6: ticket tied to it, a big price ticket. So their
- 54:58Speaker 6: expectations are they want to return on what they're investing
- 55:01Speaker 6: in that school and in that team. And I think
- 55:03Speaker 6: bren Baker knows that rich Rod understands that because he's
- 55:07Speaker 6: already lived it, done it, yes, and he can handle
- 55:11Speaker 6: the adversity of it a little better than somebody that
- 55:14Speaker 6: doesn't have ties from here.
- 55:16Speaker 3: I think I think that's a that's a really really
- 55:18Speaker 3: really good point and and very valid. Everybody, most I
- 55:26Speaker 3: shouldn't say everybody, but most most fan football fans in
- 55:30Speaker 3: West Virginia.
- 55:32Speaker 4: You either have your pro team is usually Pittsburgh.
- 55:35Speaker 3: Yes, could be Cleveland, could be anybody, right that that's
- 55:41Speaker 3: but usually it's somebody relatively close.
- 55:43Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, at least as if you're older as you
- 55:46Speaker 4: get older, right, all right, And so.
- 55:50Speaker 3: Our first piece of it is all about the love
- 55:55Speaker 3: of college football and now the split.
- 55:58Speaker 4: The huge device in that is Marshall and wv U. R.
- 56:04Speaker 3: I don't know if there's a lot of people who
- 56:05Speaker 3: are like you, who are supporting Marshall.
- 56:08Speaker 5: It's hard and and.
- 56:09Speaker 4: And and excited about wv U.
- 56:11Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, Like, there's there's not a
- 56:13Speaker 3: lot of people because they're all in.
- 56:15Speaker 5: You have to have thick skin.
- 56:18Speaker 3: And I have, you know, and and and I think
- 56:22Speaker 3: there are I think you're either all in to wv
- 56:24Speaker 3: U and all in right to to Marshall.
- 56:28Speaker 4: And unfortunately.
- 56:32Speaker 3: We're in a we're in a situation here now today
- 56:37Speaker 3: and the conversation that we've had today it's, man, we
- 56:40Speaker 3: we've got issues at both of them, and not because
- 56:44Speaker 3: it has nothing to do really with even on the field.
- 56:48Speaker 3: It's allf the field, and to me that's heartbreaking. It
- 56:52Speaker 3: is because it should not be that way.
- 56:55Speaker 6: And the reality is, as much as they want to
- 56:58Speaker 6: say we're better than you or you're better than you,
- 57:00Speaker 6: know that, the whole little banter that goes back and forth,
- 57:02Speaker 6: The reality is we are in the same boat exactly
- 57:05Speaker 6: money wise, in il wise and transfer portal wise.
- 57:09Speaker 4: So we're losing. We can't, we can't. We just don't
- 57:11Speaker 4: have the kids to lose.
- 57:13Speaker 3: No, we don't have the money to bring kids in
- 57:16Speaker 3: to drive them back into West Virginia for this. We
- 57:22Speaker 3: can't win with just high school kids and thinking that
- 57:25Speaker 3: we're gonna we're gonna.
- 57:26Speaker 5: We don't have that.
- 57:27Speaker 3: We're gonna rebuild the program through high school. No one's
- 57:30Speaker 3: gonna do that. That's golf.
- 57:31Speaker 5: Those days are golfer, right.
- 57:33Speaker 6: The best we can hope for is what's happened we
- 57:36Speaker 6: have West Virginia tis to the coaching positions at Marshall
- 57:40Speaker 6: and w and I feel like that that is the
- 57:42Speaker 6: first step and at least trying to secure teams, because
- 57:45Speaker 6: if you have a team or have a coach come
- 57:47Speaker 6: in that aspires to do bigger and better things, they're
- 57:53Speaker 6: going to take the team with them. Obviously, if if
- 57:55Speaker 6: they experience success and they're able to make that jump,
- 58:00Speaker 6: going to take the.
- 58:00Speaker 5: Team with them, and it's going to happen every time.
- 58:02Speaker 3: I'll say this when to that point and talking about
- 58:07Speaker 3: specifically talking about a coach, I can remember Sonny Randall
- 58:11Speaker 3: coming into Marshall and and and I. I decided to
- 58:15Speaker 3: go because he had you know, he had played in
- 58:17Speaker 3: the pros, and I was that's what I wanted, so I,
- 58:19Speaker 3: you know, I went there, and what I really realized
- 58:24Speaker 3: about him was just how hard and how deep and
- 58:31Speaker 3: that he is into football, Like how drastic he was
- 58:34Speaker 3: about trying to build a team that wins, you know.
- 58:38Speaker 3: And then I have Bob Pruitt as a dB coach.
- 58:40Speaker 3: He was a fun loving kind of guy, you know,
- 58:43Speaker 3: and and and and the staff was full of great coaches.
- 58:47Speaker 3: But we didn't win. But what what I remember was
- 58:52Speaker 3: was the work ethic that they made sure that you yes, yes,
- 58:57Speaker 3: and if you didn't have.
- 58:58Speaker 4: It, you weren't gonna make it. See, I don't know.
- 59:01Speaker 5: Now it's all about top talent.
- 59:04Speaker 4: Well and that too.
- 59:05Speaker 3: And I've got to pat you on the back more
- 59:07Speaker 3: so now that I can yell and scream, because I
- 59:10Speaker 3: can remember, I can remember Sonny Randall like grabbing my
- 59:13Speaker 3: face masks and cussing me.
- 59:16Speaker 4: For that, and I can don't make money somewhere else. Yeah,
- 59:20Speaker 4: there's no way they're going to tolerate.
- 59:22Speaker 5: They have to be handled with kid gloves now, right.
- 59:24Speaker 3: And I really don't know, And I'll kind of close
- 59:28Speaker 3: on this and make you finish out. I don't know
- 59:31Speaker 3: if the coaching, the coaching style, the buddy up coaching
- 59:37Speaker 3: style today, I just don't think that that works. I
- 59:40Speaker 3: still believe in the yelling, and I'm not a yelling coach.
- 59:46Speaker 3: I don't yell, I don't curse, I don't do any
- 59:47Speaker 3: of this.
- 59:48Speaker 6: There's a difference between yelling and critiquing. I think there's
- 59:52Speaker 6: like just outright yelling and cussing a player for you know,
- 59:57Speaker 6: like during a play. During play during a football game
- 59:59Speaker 6: is one thing. But during practice, when you're trying to
- 1:00:01Speaker 6: get them better and point out their mistakes, sometimes they
- 1:00:05Speaker 6: listen a little better when you have a different tone
- 1:00:08Speaker 6: to your voice.
- 1:00:09Speaker 3: To me, I learned to listen no matter whether it
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: was practice or or game, because that's how it was right.
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: I think that is part of some of it. And
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: I know there's a ton of people are going to
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: be like, no, that now he's so wrong on that.
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: I just think I just think that you got to
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: have someone who's going to be as passionate as you
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: are about what you want.
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: Light that fire.
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: They're gonna like that fire.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: They're gonna let you know that you're not doing what
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: you need to do to get what you want right.
- 1:00:38Speaker 3: And if you don't have that, man, I think I
- 1:00:40Speaker 3: think you got a problem.
- 1:00:43Speaker 5: Preach.
