Speaker 1: Welcome to Let's Talk with Carl Lee.
0:25
Speaker 2: Let's Talk is proudly presented by attorney Frank Walker. Real talk,
0:29
Speaker 2: real experience, real results. FrankWalkerLaw.com. Let the conversation begin on
0:35
Speaker 2: Let's Talk.
0:36
Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, this is Carl Lee, and
0:39
Speaker 3: I have in the building the queen, Lisa Odie, and
0:44
Speaker 3: Hollis Lewis. Hello, hello. I'm going to break the ice
0:50
Speaker 3: just for— I don't know really what the reason is.
0:54
Speaker 4: I don't like this at all.
0:55
Speaker 3: Whatever the reason might justifiably be. I'll talk to the boss. So, Matt,
1:08
Speaker 3: I've never really liked the Cowboys. I've never really ever
1:14
Speaker 3: had any kind of good feeling about the Cowboys. They
1:17
Speaker 3: just were one of those teams that I just really
1:21
Speaker 3: chose to dislike.
1:23
Speaker 5: That seems like a good way to feel about the Cowboys.
1:25
Speaker 4: Well, okay.
1:26
Speaker 6: Not a bad plan.
1:29
Speaker 4: But I have, for some odd reason, I am so
1:34
Speaker 4: proud of them.
1:36
Speaker 5: Oh, no.
1:38
Speaker 6: What?
1:38
Speaker 3: I'm so proud of them because who did they play this?
1:42
Speaker 4: Who did they just play?
1:43
Speaker 5: Who did they lose to?
1:44
Speaker 6: You mean who did they lose to last night?
1:46
Speaker 4: Did they not win?
1:47
Speaker 1: No.
1:48
Speaker 3: Oh.
1:48
Speaker 6: Yeah, see?
1:50
Speaker 7: You went down that road. You went down that path,
1:52
Speaker 7: and it just shut down. The Packers won at Lambeau.
1:56
Speaker 4: I still don't like them.
1:58
Speaker 5: That score must have just flipped.
2:00
Speaker 4: I still don't like them.
2:01
Speaker 5: He's dreaming.
2:02
Speaker 4: And you know what?
2:04
Speaker 5: Got hit one too many times and I can't read
2:06
Speaker 5: the score. Box score makes no sense.
2:10
Speaker 4: And because they lost.
2:13
Speaker 6: Shame.
2:13
Speaker 5: Shame.
2:14
Speaker 3: Because they lost and the Packers won. Packer gear and
2:19
Speaker 3: Packer fans are really no longer part of the show.
2:22
Speaker 4: You know what?
2:22
Speaker 6: I'm wearing the next show. I'm bringing it all.
2:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, the cheese head.
2:27
Speaker 6: I'm bringing it all in.
2:28
Speaker 4: I'm telling you.
2:29
Speaker 7: My Micah Parsons shirt, my cheese head, all the fixings.
2:34
Speaker 6: Get ready.
2:34
Speaker 4: Okay, I want to go back. I want to go back.
2:36
Speaker 4: This is totally off script.
2:38
Speaker 6: Yes, it is.
2:40
Speaker 3: So what really ever made you, like, Choose them.
2:45
Speaker 4: Like, when did you choose them? How long ago? I mean, like, what?
2:48
Speaker 7: I mean, I was like 12 years old, and I just,
2:52
Speaker 7: I loved the Green Bay Packers.
2:53
Speaker 4: Why?
2:54
Speaker 6: I liked Lambeau.
2:56
Speaker 7: I liked the fact that there was not one single
2:58
Speaker 7: owner of that team. I am a team, I'm an owner.
3:03
Speaker 7: I own a share of the Packers stock. I like
3:05
Speaker 7: that idea. I like the fact that Lambeau is not
3:08
Speaker 7: Jerry's world. It's set in a city about the size
3:12
Speaker 7: of Charleston, West Virginia. It's just the whole, I don't know,
3:17
Speaker 7: the whole history of it. There's history behind the pack.
3:20
Speaker 4: Are you literally an owner?
3:22
Speaker 6: Yes, I own a share.
3:24
Speaker 4: You do? Yeah.
3:25
Speaker 6: Yeah, I bought a share.
3:26
Speaker 4: They offered that.
3:27
Speaker 7: People think that you can just buy shares anytime you want,
3:30
Speaker 7: and that's not true. What happened was when they have
3:32
Speaker 7: to do some type of upgrade to the field or
3:34
Speaker 7: the stadium— They sell shares of stock.
3:37
Speaker 5: That's cool.
3:37
Speaker 4: Like, when did you get that?
3:38
Speaker 5: Oh, gosh.
3:39
Speaker 6: Probably been about 10 years ago. Wow.
3:42
Speaker 7: They were doing something to the actual boxes. They were
3:45
Speaker 7: building some new boxes up there at Lambeau.
3:47
Speaker 3: So, how does that go? They just, like, put it
3:50
Speaker 3: out there? Like, hey, who wants to buy? That's pretty cool.
3:53
Speaker 5: Yeah.
3:54
Speaker 7: At the time, I think I paid, like, I don't know,
3:56
Speaker 7: $ 150 a share. I'm sure it's more, way more now.
3:57
Speaker 5: Uh-huh.
4:00
Speaker 4: So, yeah. That's awesome, man. I remember when that took place, too. Yeah, yeah.
4:04
Speaker 7: Because when I did the tour of Lambeau, and then
4:05
Speaker 7: we're going to talk sports. Nobody wants to hear this.
4:08
Speaker 7: But when I did the tour of Lambeau, when I
4:10
Speaker 7: went to Lambeau Field a few moons ago, they asked,
4:13
Speaker 7: do we have any owners on the tour? And I
4:16
Speaker 7: raised my hand. There was like two or three of
4:17
Speaker 7: us out of like 20. Because not, you know, like
4:20
Speaker 7: I said, you have to, it has to be a
4:22
Speaker 7: special time to be able to purchase something.
4:25
Speaker 6: The stock.
4:26
Speaker 3: Now, if you're a shareholder, do you get like any special,
4:28
Speaker 3: like not, not just to get tickets or anything, but
4:30
Speaker 3: do you get like, Hey, you can get, What do
4:32
Speaker 3: you get?
4:32
Speaker 6: I get like an invitation.
4:33
Speaker 7: They do like a meeting of other shareholders in July
4:37
Speaker 7: at Lambeau, and I get an invite to that.
4:39
Speaker 6: I never go, but yeah.
4:41
Speaker 4: That's awesome. I mean, that's pretty cool.
4:42
Speaker 6: Yeah, I'll bring it in. Wait, wait.
4:44
Speaker 7: Matt Murphy, I'm going to bring in my actual framed.
4:48
Speaker 6: Stock next week. So I want you to see it, Carl.
4:50
Speaker 6: Don't mess with an owner in the package.
4:52
Speaker 4: Do you think more teams should do that, right?
4:55
Speaker 3: I think so.
4:56
Speaker 4: They're the only one. Yeah, they are the only one.
4:59
Speaker 3: Uh-huh.
5:00
Speaker 5: I think they're trying to put that away. I don't
5:02
Speaker 5: think they want other teams.
5:03
Speaker 6: No, they don't.
5:04
Speaker 3: I mean, I don't think the, and I'll say this
5:07
Speaker 3: for sure, the old school owners really were not interested
5:11
Speaker 3: in anything like that.
5:12
Speaker 5: No.
5:12
Speaker 4: At all.
5:13
Speaker 6: No.
5:14
Speaker 4: I mean, they didn't want to share nothing.
5:16
Speaker 3: But I think that, like, if you look at, like,
5:18
Speaker 3: what's happening in Chicago and it's like all the tax
5:20
Speaker 3: bonds and the tax issues that, why they may move
5:23
Speaker 3: out of the city, this, I.
5:25
Speaker 4: Think this would be cool.
5:26
Speaker 6: I mean, you know what I'm saying?
5:27
Speaker 4: Just let the people have it.
5:28
Speaker 3: And just like, if you want to, upgrade if you
5:30
Speaker 3: want to buy this or buy that, then divvy out stocks.
5:35
Speaker 4: I like this.
5:36
Speaker 5: The other thing they do, I mean, we might as
5:37
Speaker 5: well pile it on here. Let's go.
5:39
Speaker 4: Let's go, Matt. Help me out here.
5:40
Speaker 5: If you live in Brown County, where Green Bay is located,
5:44
Speaker 5: every year they do a lottery for all the county
5:47
Speaker 5: residents to get tickets. And so it averages out to
5:50
Speaker 5: like once maybe every season or every other season that
5:53
Speaker 5: you can get a lottery spot to get a pair
5:56
Speaker 5: of tickets and go to a game.
5:58
Speaker 4: I like that.
5:59
Speaker 3: And I do think that there's a lot of teams
6:01
Speaker 3: that do different types of things.
6:04
Speaker 4: And, unfortunately, I don't know of any of those through Minnesota.
6:08
Speaker 6: I don't think they're actual team owners.
6:10
Speaker 7: Like, they may, like, do, like, you know, put your
6:13
Speaker 7: name on a brick in the wall of, you know,
6:15
Speaker 7: whatever they're building or something like that. But, I mean,
6:17
Speaker 7: we're actually owners. So, I think that's kind of cool.
6:20
Speaker 4: Yeah, you get to say– you get to say– Except,
6:23
Speaker 4: you know, the team's horrible. You are an owner.
6:25
Speaker 5: Yeah.
6:26
Speaker 4: Yeah, you're an owner of.
6:27
Speaker 6: A horrible team. So, stand down over there.
6:29
Speaker 4: You're a horrible team.
6:30
Speaker 6: Oh, my goodness.
6:32
Speaker 3: Yeah.
6:32
Speaker 6: We'll see when the Vikings roll in. We'll see what happens.
6:34
Speaker 4: But right now, the Vikings are what? What are we?
6:37
Speaker 2: What?
6:37
Speaker 4: I mean, I don't remember.
6:38
Speaker 3: I don't know.
6:39
Speaker 6: They're undefeated.
6:40
Speaker 4: Huh?
6:41
Speaker 6: I said it. I almost choked when I said it. But, yeah.
6:44
Speaker 2: Un-what?
6:45
Speaker 6: Un-lost.
6:47
Speaker 5: I don't know how to read those numbers.
6:48
Speaker 4: Un-lost.
6:49
Speaker 6: They haven't lost a game.
6:51
Speaker 5: I don't know if the zero means they haven't won
6:53
Speaker 5: or if they haven't lost. I don't know.
6:55
Speaker 6: You could easily flip those numbers when it comes to
6:57
Speaker 6: the Vikings, right?
6:58
Speaker 4: Can't read it.
7:00
Speaker 3: I would think, Matt, that you should be balanced between us.
7:04
Speaker 3: You seem like you're leaning over there to the Packers
7:06
Speaker 3: is what it seems like.
7:08
Speaker 5: Listen, I've been a Packers fan.
7:10
Speaker 4: Oh, my gosh. Steve?
7:12
Speaker 5: We're all going to be in the unemployment line. My
7:16
Speaker 5: family's from Milwaukee, so I rooted for the Packers back
7:21
Speaker 5: in Sterling's day. I grew up as a kid watching
7:23
Speaker 5: Sterling Sharp on TV.
7:24
Speaker 6: I saw Sterling, yeah.
7:25
Speaker 4: I need to just stop coming because I can't fire him.
7:31
Speaker 6: Oh, my God.
7:31
Speaker 4: What I do is not that hard. You can do this.
7:34
Speaker 6: Oh, my goodness. Let's do a show.
7:36
Speaker 4: I mean, we might as well stay NFL. Okay. Just quickly.
7:40
Speaker 4: I mean, there's a lot of stories going around.
7:42
Speaker 3: Yeah.
7:42
Speaker 4: So the Browns are four and two.
7:45
Speaker 6: That's another thing.
7:46
Speaker 3: And I told you guys earlier, if you can remember.
7:49
Speaker 3: I did say that Deshaun Watson was going to be
7:52
Speaker 3: good this year. And he's been a pretty good starting quarterback.
7:56
Speaker 3: Not a pro bowler, not nothing out of the world,
7:59
Speaker 3: but he's pinned his team in a position to win games.
8:01
Speaker 3: So the question I have, if they, again, they're leading
8:05
Speaker 3: the AFC North. If they continue this, they win the
8:10
Speaker 3: AFC North, they get a first-round buy. Do the Browns
8:16
Speaker 3: keep him beyond the end of the contract?
8:19
Speaker 4: Do they just.
8:20
Speaker 3: Roll with it? Or do they start to figure out?
8:23
Speaker 3: Because it doesn't look like they love Shador Sanders. I
8:25
Speaker 3: don't imagine he'll be there much longer. Not because of him,
8:28
Speaker 3: but just, you know, whatever. But do they keep Deshaun
8:31
Speaker 3: Watson in spite of everything that's happened in the past? Me?
8:37
Speaker 3: I think you have to. You have to keep him?
8:39
Speaker 3: I think you have to. You have to keep him
8:40
Speaker 3: beyond when the contract ends?
8:43
Speaker 2: Yes.
8:43
Speaker 4: So does that mean an extension?
8:45
Speaker 3: I think that you need to start talking about it now,
8:48
Speaker 3: and let's see if we can get you signed now.
8:51
Speaker 4: Go ahead and sign him now? Yes, sir. Let's sign
8:53
Speaker 4: you to an extension right now. Okay. What do you, Lisa?
8:57
Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know.
8:58
Speaker 7: I mean, I think Deshaun Watson, I mean, he's– This
9:01
Speaker 7: is my take on Deshaun Watson. He struggles most of
9:05
Speaker 7: the game, okay? But then he finds a way to win.
9:09
Speaker 7: You know what I'm saying? This is the fourth game
9:13
Speaker 7: that he's had the winning drive at the end of
9:14
Speaker 7: the game. His tape, if you watch his tape up
9:17
Speaker 7: until that point to the fourth quarter, it's not the greatest.
9:20
Speaker 6: But he's a leader.
9:22
Speaker 7: He's taking the Browns somewhere they haven't been for a long,
9:25
Speaker 7: long time.
9:26
Speaker 4: Long time.
9:26
Speaker 6: Long time.
9:28
Speaker 7: And I'm kind of with Carl on this one. I mean,
9:30
Speaker 7: I think you start pursuing that extension of a contract.
9:33
Speaker 4: But I guess, okay, how do you sell this to
9:36
Speaker 4: the fans? Oh, I think it's easy.
9:38
Speaker 3: But let me, here's, again, this is one of the
9:42
Speaker 3: major things that I think is a problem when we start,
9:46
Speaker 3: evaluating players I think it has a lot to do
9:50
Speaker 3: with with some of the schemes you know Hollis you
9:54
Speaker 3: know there's a there's a system that would work perfect
9:57
Speaker 3: for you as a quarterback but if you don't get
10:00
Speaker 3: that system, now you have to kind of try to
10:03
Speaker 3: adapt to. And see, and I'm thinking he's now in
10:07
Speaker 3: a system that he can work in.
10:11
Speaker 4: I think now there's a future in Hollis. For him
10:15
Speaker 4: and some success for the team. Okay. I mean, that's true.
10:21
Speaker 3: And I think it's always up to the coaches to
10:23
Speaker 3: have to pick the player in the best position, right?
10:25
Speaker 3: But I would say, too, is like if we're just
10:27
Speaker 3: talking the business side of it and the money, because
10:30
Speaker 3: obviously you can't pay him what you just paid him.
10:33
Speaker 6: Oh, no, no, no, no. Yeah, that's an issue.
10:35
Speaker 3: So when you talk about extension, and if we're going
10:38
Speaker 3: to introduce that earlier before the contract ends, How do
10:42
Speaker 3: you have those talks? Because, dude, I can't pay you
10:44
Speaker 3: what I paid you. Now, and I don't imagine that
10:48
Speaker 3: any other team is going to pay you. Them days
10:50
Speaker 3: is gone. You done got your meat and potatoes. You
10:53
Speaker 3: done probably got the biggest contract you ever seen. You
10:55
Speaker 3: ain't getting nothing else moving forward. But at the same time,
10:59
Speaker 3: we've seen in the NFL, there's just a lack of
11:02
Speaker 3: good quarterbacks. Yes.
11:04
Speaker 4: I mean, there's probably 10 dudes out there, 12 maybe. OK,
11:07
Speaker 4: let me. So what do you do on that end?
11:10
Speaker 4: What you doing a business? OK, well, here's OK. Here's
11:13
Speaker 4: here's my problem with that. I question.
11:19
Speaker 3: The system in its itself of. So if I put
11:24
Speaker 3: you in a system that's not good for you because
11:27
Speaker 3: it's what I know and it's what I want to
11:29
Speaker 3: do because I'm the coach or I'm the old coordinator, right?
11:31
Speaker 3: I want to do this system, so I'm going to
11:33
Speaker 3: put you in it, and I expect you to adapt
11:36
Speaker 3: to it, and maybe it's not something that makes you
11:39
Speaker 3: the best player that you can be.
11:42
Speaker 4: And I think currently now in the.
11:44
Speaker 3: NFL, I think the structures of offensive coordinators, head coaches–
11:51
Speaker 3: They have these systems in their mind. They're not looking
11:55
Speaker 3: at you and saying what you can do. They're looking
11:57
Speaker 3: at you and trying to make you fit something that
12:03
Speaker 3: they're creating. And I don't think that that's the right way.
12:06
Speaker 4: It's definitely not the right way.
12:07
Speaker 1: No.
12:07
Speaker 4: I would agree with you there. Because, again, I'm a
12:10
Speaker 4: product of it.
12:13
Speaker 3: I couldn't play zone at the pro level.
12:18
Speaker 4: I couldn't play it.
12:19
Speaker 3: And in the first three years that we were trying
12:22
Speaker 3: to do it, I ended up being a safety at
12:27
Speaker 3: one point in time and really wasn't big enough to
12:30
Speaker 3: be a safety to make all those tackles that you're
12:32
Speaker 3: going to end up making. If there's not a change
12:36
Speaker 3: that comes in and says, okay, now we're going to
12:38
Speaker 3: play a bump and run.
12:39
Speaker 4: And I'm like thinking, well, okay, well, wait a minute.
12:41
Speaker 4: What is that? Okay, well, let me see. Oh, well,
12:43
Speaker 4: wait a minute. I think I can do this.
12:45
Speaker 5: Right.
12:46
Speaker 4: I think it's all about what you can and can't do.
12:49
Speaker 3: And I don't think that today's coaches.
12:54
Speaker 3: Today, because Hollis has that big name as a head
12:58
Speaker 3: coach and has won these championships, he's not going to
13:02
Speaker 3: come to the team and change anything. He's going to
13:05
Speaker 3: make us do exactly what he thinks. But maybe I
13:09
Speaker 3: can't do it. But I think that's the difference between,
13:14
Speaker 3: you know, if you look at the NFL is different
13:17
Speaker 3: in that depending on the power you have as the
13:21
Speaker 3: head coach, you can Get the guys, or at least
13:24
Speaker 3: you can sort of pick the groceries, as Bill Parcells said,
13:28
Speaker 3: to fit your system. But outside of that, if you
13:31
Speaker 3: are a top-level coach, then you're going to make the
13:33
Speaker 3: adjustments necessary. And we've seen that, like, what's going on with, like,
13:37
Speaker 3: you know, some of the college programs. But my question,
13:39
Speaker 3: you just answered your own question. But my question was,
13:44
Speaker 3: if you're the Browns and you're talking money, How do
13:49
Speaker 3: you navigate that?
13:51
Speaker 4: Because you can't pay him what you just paid.
13:53
Speaker 5: Right.
13:55
Speaker 3: But you got to pay him something because there's not
13:57
Speaker 3: enough good quarterbacks in the league.
13:58
Speaker 4: So what do you do?
13:59
Speaker 7: I mean, I think they just need to be honest
14:01
Speaker 7: with him, right? I mean, just tell him, look, this
14:03
Speaker 7: is what the franchise can afford. We want to keep you.
14:06
Speaker 7: We're impressed with what you're doing with our team this year.
14:09
Speaker 7: You know, this is the first time since 2014. Since
14:10
Speaker 7: they've been 4-2?
14:11
Speaker 4: It's been that long. Since 2014.
14:12
Speaker 6: Since they've been at the top. That's like 12 years ago.
14:18
Speaker 4: That's a long time.
14:19
Speaker 6: That's a long time.
14:20
Speaker 4: Wow.
14:20
Speaker 7: But they, you know, and it depends on how deep
14:23
Speaker 7: the cut is. Like, is it, you know, half of
14:25
Speaker 7: what he's making or is it just a 25% cut?
14:29
Speaker 6: I mean, I don't know what they can afford up there.
14:31
Speaker 4: I don't buy it.
14:33
Speaker 3: I don't buy the idea that you can't pay me.
14:37
Speaker 4: But we can't pay you what you, like that historic contract?
14:40
Speaker 4: What was the number? It was like hundreds of millions
14:42
Speaker 4: of dollars.
14:43
Speaker 6: I don't remember, but it was crazy. And he didn't play.
14:45
Speaker 4: And he didn't play for most of it.
14:46
Speaker 6: Yeah, so to me, there's a justification.
14:48
Speaker 4: Earn your pay. Here's the thing.
14:53
Speaker 3: I earned my play already. That's why you're paying me.
14:57
Speaker 3: That's why you paid me. That's fair. So now, because
15:00
Speaker 3: I got hurt, is there something that you said in
15:02
Speaker 3: the contract that if I get hurt, that there's something?
15:05
Speaker 5: No, no, no.
15:06
Speaker 4: I just mean like moving forward, like for the new contract.
15:10
Speaker 4: You got to pay. You got to pay. You got
15:11
Speaker 4: to pay.
15:12
Speaker 6: The same amount is what you're saying.
15:13
Speaker 2: No.
15:14
Speaker 4: No. That you got to pay.
15:16
Speaker 3: If you pay me $ 10 and that's a huge deal
15:19
Speaker 3: and that was for the first contract, now my contract's
15:23
Speaker 3: up again.
15:23
Speaker 4: You want more? Absolutely.
15:27
Speaker 3: And I don't want 11. But in spite of everything. Now,
15:33
Speaker 3: here's what you can do. Here's how I'll help you, Hollis.
15:37
Speaker 4: You the GM. Here's what you can do.
15:40
Speaker 3: I'll take exactly what I got now with In X
15:46
Speaker 3: number of years, you pay me this because you owe
15:51
Speaker 3: me that. So that way I can help you sign
15:54
Speaker 3: everybody else, but I'm going to get what I'm due.
15:59
Speaker 7: I think now that you said it that way, Hollis,
16:02
Speaker 7: I mean, now that I'm going to rethink what I said,
16:04
Speaker 7: I believe that you probably don't pursue the extension until
16:09
Speaker 7: you see what happens the rest of the season.
16:12
Speaker 4: Yeah, you got, yeah.
16:13
Speaker 6: You know what I mean? Like, you know, right now,
16:15
Speaker 6: who knows?
16:16
Speaker 7: I mean, it could be the fact that they're a
16:17
Speaker 7: really good team.
16:19
Speaker 4: Yeah, what happens if they all of a sudden are
16:21
Speaker 4: a great team? Collapse, right. No, what if they do great, though?
16:23
Speaker 4: That's what I'm saying. Now you've really got a problem.
16:27
Speaker 6: No, not really. Not really.
16:28
Speaker 5: I mean.
16:29
Speaker 4: Because you're about halfway through now.
16:31
Speaker 2: Yes.
16:32
Speaker 4: He signed in 2022.
16:36
Speaker 5: Five years, $ 230 million fully guaranteed. Yes, you're talking about
16:41
Speaker 5: $ 46 million every year.
16:43
Speaker 4: You ain't getting that no more.
16:44
Speaker 5: No.
16:45
Speaker 4: We can't give you that, bro.
16:46
Speaker 6: We can't give you $ 40 million.
16:47
Speaker 5: My question, though, what happens if they get to December...
16:52
Speaker 5: Things are looking good, and they get into the playoffs.
16:54
Speaker 5: I mean, what if they wind up in the Super
16:56
Speaker 5: Bowl somehow? Dude, that would be nuts. Do you think
17:00
Speaker 5: that would change the game on the contract, though?
17:02
Speaker 4: It'd have to, right?
17:03
Speaker 3: Look, if I took you to the playoffs, I don't
17:07
Speaker 3: care what y'all paid me yesterday. We going to talk
17:11
Speaker 3: about because when's the last time y'all been here? When's
17:14
Speaker 3: the last time the Browns have been in the playoffs?
17:17
Speaker 3: Can we look that up?
17:18
Speaker 4: Look, I was a kid. I was a kid. I
17:20
Speaker 4: had to be a kid. I was a kid.
17:21
Speaker 6: That was a minute ago. But, I mean, here's a
17:25
Speaker 6: valid point, guys.
17:26
Speaker 7: Is it because, because I said, you know, at the
17:29
Speaker 7: beginning of this whole conversation that he doesn't look that
17:32
Speaker 7: great the whole game.
17:34
Speaker 6: He just finds a way to win games.
17:36
Speaker 7: He's got a lot of bad tape along with the good,
17:39
Speaker 7: which the good is the last few minutes that he
17:40
Speaker 7: pulls out a win.
17:41
Speaker 3: I think it's true, but I think the caveat to
17:45
Speaker 3: that is that it's the Browns. And when was the
17:48
Speaker 3: last time they had a decent quarterback who was doing
17:50
Speaker 3: any of this?
17:51
Speaker 6: Well, that's true, too.
17:52
Speaker 4: So I think that's the caveat, right?
17:53
Speaker 6: Are they that good, or is it just the AFC
17:55
Speaker 6: North is that bad? But it's the Browns.
17:58
Speaker 4: But see— The.
18:00
Speaker 7: Stars must be aligned in some weird way, because you're right.
18:04
Speaker 6: It is the Browns. It's the Browns.
18:06
Speaker 3: While you all are saying, okay— To your point, Lisa,
18:10
Speaker 3: is it that bad?
18:12
Speaker 4: Is the conference that bad?
18:13
Speaker 6: I mean, I love it. I don't mind the Browns.
18:16
Speaker 6: I like to see them do well.
18:16
Speaker 3: Me as the player, I ain't got nothing to do
18:19
Speaker 3: with that. I ain't got nothing to do with that.
18:22
Speaker 3: All I'm trying to show you all is look at
18:25
Speaker 3: my numbers. Okay, when was the last time they've been
18:27
Speaker 3: to the playoffs?
18:28
Speaker 5: So they made the wild card round a couple of
18:30
Speaker 5: times recently, 2023 and then again back in 2020.
18:35
Speaker 6: I wonder when they won their division, though. I mean,
18:37
Speaker 6: that's probably not.
18:40
Speaker 4: That might not be there.
18:40
Speaker 6: That may not even have ever happened.
18:42
Speaker 4: I'm going back to Leroy Kelly and all that.
18:46
Speaker 3: So just to move.
18:51
Speaker 7: 1989.
18:51
Speaker 5: Dang.
18:51
Speaker 6: Is that when they last won the division?
18:55
Speaker 5: 1989.
18:55
Speaker 4: Carl was in the league.
18:56
Speaker 5: Yeah.
18:57
Speaker 4: Wow.
18:58
Speaker 3: So what I'm saying is that if you make the playoffs,
19:03
Speaker 3: potentially get a first-round buy, and win the division, you
19:06
Speaker 3: don't want the Super Bowl as far as the Cleveland Browns.
19:08
Speaker 4: Exactly. That's the Super Bowl. Yes, that's the Super Bowl.
19:11
Speaker 4: And if you got to the Super Bowl.
19:13
Speaker 3: Yeah, we might be talking about that 46 million.
19:17
Speaker 7: I don't even know how that franchise afforded that in
19:19
Speaker 7: the first place. How did they afford that? I mean,
19:22
Speaker 7: Cleveland Browns are not that affluent.
19:25
Speaker 4: But there's a ton of Browns.
19:26
Speaker 6: It's not Jerry's world.
19:27
Speaker 3: There's Brown fans, though, that will support them, do or die.
19:32
Speaker 6: That's true.
19:32
Speaker 3: All right, more NFL. I guess we'll ask now. What
19:37
Speaker 3: are your thoughts on international games?
19:40
Speaker 4: Should the league.
19:42
Speaker 4: Is it a health risk for the players? Is it
19:45
Speaker 4: good for the league? Should we be playing those games
19:48
Speaker 4: as a former player? I played three. All right. And–
19:55
Speaker 4: So this has been going on for a while. Yes. Okay,
19:57
Speaker 4: got it.
19:58
Speaker 3: But ours were.
20:01
Speaker 4: Scrimmages.
20:01
Speaker 3: They weren't– or preseason games.
20:03
Speaker 4: They weren't regular games. Okay, got it, got it.
20:06
Speaker 3: And again, we know the foundation of why this is
20:09
Speaker 3: happening is money.
20:10
Speaker 4: Of course. So we understand that.
20:13
Speaker 6: Everything happens because of money.
20:15
Speaker 3: The worst thing about the trips is the flight going,
20:18
Speaker 3: the flight coming back.
20:19
Speaker 5: Okay?
20:20
Speaker 3: Because it's like forever. It's not like going flying to
20:23
Speaker 3: California or whatever. You're going anywhere across the country.
20:27
Speaker 6: You're going into like differences of days sometimes.
20:30
Speaker 4: Yeah. And so that's part of it. Then when you
20:34
Speaker 4: get there.
20:36
Speaker 3: managing where you can go, where you can't go, where
20:42
Speaker 3: to eat.
20:44
Speaker 4: You don't know anything.
20:45
Speaker 3: Everywhere else you've gone, if I go to the Packers,
20:48
Speaker 3: if we're going to Green Bay, I know somewhere that
20:50
Speaker 3: we're going to go hang out, we're going to go
20:52
Speaker 3: do something. But in those places, you have nothing. But
20:55
Speaker 3: you know what's going to happen? They're going to go.
20:58
Speaker 3: Those guys, I mean, you're going to go out into
21:00
Speaker 3: those places. But is it good for the league, though?
21:03
Speaker 3: I don't think it can be good for the league
21:04
Speaker 3: because of the potential of what happens with the players.
21:08
Speaker 3: And the reason why, when you say the league, the
21:11
Speaker 3: league is not going to do anything until something crazy happens, unfortunately,
21:16
Speaker 3: with a player. He's going to do something or something's
21:19
Speaker 3: going to happen. God forbid anything would happen to players
21:23
Speaker 3: hanging out after practice or whatever. God forbid if something
21:29
Speaker 3: were to happen in times like this, I ain't trying
21:33
Speaker 3: to go nowhere. What do you think, Lisa, like far
21:36
Speaker 3: just like the game play? stuff that you saw as
21:39
Speaker 3: far as, like, watching those games? Is it just something
21:42
Speaker 3: that the league needs to continue to do, or maybe
21:44
Speaker 3: you scale back?
21:45
Speaker 7: I mean, I think they're even talking about increasing the
21:48
Speaker 7: NFL games.
21:49
Speaker 4: Yes, they are.
21:51
Speaker 6: I'm not a big fan of it.
21:52
Speaker 7: I don't like watching, you know, for myself, just being,
21:55
Speaker 7: you know, my selfish perspective, I don't like watching NFL
21:58
Speaker 7: football at 1030 on Sunday morning or whatever time it
22:00
Speaker 7: comes on, you know. I mean, it's just the whole
22:03
Speaker 7: vibe of that. I hate it when my team plays
22:06
Speaker 7: on a Sunday.
22:06
Speaker 3: Morning international games. And when you watch it, does it
22:09
Speaker 3: make you any difference? Like when you're watching the game,
22:12
Speaker 3: you know, like you said, you're watching your team. Does
22:15
Speaker 3: it make any difference to you where they're playing? You're
22:17
Speaker 3: just watching the team. I mean, it kind of does
22:20
Speaker 3: because those teams are losing a home game too.
22:22
Speaker 4: Oh, well, yeah. You know what I mean? So you're losing.
22:25
Speaker 3: So if you're like an owner or you are a
22:29
Speaker 3: season ticket holder.
22:30
Speaker 4: That's one less game you get to have.
22:32
Speaker 7: I wonder if they have some type of deal, though,
22:34
Speaker 7: where they split. I mean, I'm sure they get compensated
22:37
Speaker 7: in some way when their teams go overseas like that.
22:39
Speaker 4: Yeah, they're paid.
22:42
Speaker 6: But not as much as a home game. There's no way.
22:44
Speaker 4: Yeah.
22:45
Speaker 6: When you think about, you know, all the merch and
22:46
Speaker 6: all the stuff.
22:47
Speaker 4: Well, let's just say this.
22:48
Speaker 3: Even if they do, I'll say the merch, they'll probably
22:51
Speaker 3: sell more there than they probably would.
22:53
Speaker 6: Maybe.
22:54
Speaker 4: At home. Good point.
22:56
Speaker 6: But.
22:59
Speaker 3: I'm not... I'm missing a game. As a fan, I'm
23:04
Speaker 3: missing a home game. Yeah. And I got to sit
23:07
Speaker 3: at home watching it on television at a crazy time.
23:11
Speaker 4: Am I going to do it? Yes. Do I like it? No.
23:15
Speaker 4: Season ticket holders, what do you do? I think it's
23:17
Speaker 4: just too much. I think it's a novelty.
23:19
Speaker 3: And again, I think it's good for the global expansion
23:26
Speaker 3: of the game.
23:27
Speaker 4: But I think football is a different beast. It's not
23:29
Speaker 4: like basketball.
23:31
Speaker 3: You don't have like the, you know, basketball globally was
23:34
Speaker 3: expanded through the Olympics and the dream team of Michael
23:36
Speaker 3: Jordan and those guys. But I think football is such
23:39
Speaker 3: a different beast that to me, the better like methodologies
23:43
Speaker 3: always starting from the ground up. So maybe you go
23:45
Speaker 3: play a game over there, but like what's after that?
23:47
Speaker 3: So you got to get like little league programs and
23:49
Speaker 3: you got to start building the programs that if you
23:51
Speaker 3: want those countries to like really be serious about football.
23:54
Speaker 3: So it has to start from like, the ground up.
23:56
Speaker 3: So it's just one of them things. And to your point,
23:59
Speaker 3: player safety, health concerns, you know, sleep and all that other.
24:03
Speaker 4: Stuff that goes into it. And what's the goal? What's
24:06
Speaker 4: the actual goal? Expand.
24:08
Speaker 1: Yeah.
24:09
Speaker 4: So, okay, expand.
24:10
Speaker 3: But what you, okay, so expansion to me is, okay,
24:14
Speaker 3: so we're going to, we're going to put a team together.
24:17
Speaker 4: We're going to name a team and we're going to be, no, no, no, no, not, not, not,
24:20
Speaker 4: not literally.
24:21
Speaker 3: I'm talking about expanding like the popularity game, stuff like that.
24:25
Speaker 4: Then, then put it, put it on TV. Well, you
24:28
Speaker 4: know what?
24:29
Speaker 7: I mean, that's a good point, but think about the viewership. I, I,
24:33
Speaker 7: I do not watch those Sunday morning international games unless
24:36
Speaker 7: my team's involved.
24:37
Speaker 6: I'll be honest.
24:38
Speaker 7: And so, you know, if it's like, let's say, you know,
24:40
Speaker 7: the Raiders versus Cowboys or whatever, and it's a one
24:44
Speaker 7: o'clock game and I just happen to be, you know,
24:46
Speaker 7: hanging out, I might watch it. But if it's on
24:49
Speaker 7: in the morning, you know, I'm doing, I'm not going
24:51
Speaker 7: to watch, I'm not going to make the effort, put
24:53
Speaker 7: it that way. And most viewers are probably like that.
24:55
Speaker 7: So do you think the major networks like this?
24:59
Speaker 3: Again, I think you're going to watch it if you're
25:01
Speaker 3: a fan of the team and then it, I think
25:03
Speaker 3: the purpose for them is just to, you know, see
25:05
Speaker 3: how much interest you can have in, you know, whether
25:07
Speaker 3: it's Germany or Mexico or whatever. If they can create enough,
25:10
Speaker 3: if they can create enough revenue, but my, but again,
25:15
Speaker 3: let's assume it's a hundred dollars. They, they can, they
25:18
Speaker 3: can make a hundred dollars and they were making 90
25:20
Speaker 3: somewhere else.
25:22
Speaker 4: But I think it's, does it matter?
25:24
Speaker 5: Yeah.
25:24
Speaker 3: I mean, I think it's longterm because I think, again,
25:27
Speaker 3: I think for them, you got to look at not
25:29
Speaker 3: only viewership, but you got to look at, um, like
25:32
Speaker 3: the player bases. So they got to figure out different
25:34
Speaker 3: ways and different spots around the world to go get
25:37
Speaker 3: players now. Cause you know, I think with an American football,
25:43
Speaker 3: you know, you know, I'm not going to say it's dying,
25:47
Speaker 3: but I don't think it's as popular as it was
25:48
Speaker 3: 10 years ago.
25:49
Speaker 4: No, I would agree. So I would agree.
25:51
Speaker 3: I think that you're going to have to, at some
25:53
Speaker 3: point expand for nothing else, but just to have a
25:57
Speaker 3: group of players, you know what I'm saying? So if
25:58
Speaker 3: you go to Germany, maybe some of those cats who
26:00
Speaker 3: play rugby, in a soccer cast now they may be
26:03
Speaker 3: playing football or you're going to African countries and different things.
26:07
Speaker 4: And I agree.
26:08
Speaker 3: I don't think the popularity is, I think it is,
26:11
Speaker 3: we're losing it. But I think that is also, I
26:14
Speaker 3: think that is part of the way the game is played.
26:19
Speaker 3: I think it's, and the way all the different side
26:22
Speaker 3: bars of the game, I think people get tired of it. Like,
26:27
Speaker 3: you know, they're tired of the quarterback.
26:28
Speaker 4: He's not playing. or somebody's holding out, all that kind
26:34
Speaker 4: of stuff.
26:34
Speaker 5: See, I disagree.
26:35
Speaker 4: See, I think the fans are— Disagree what?
26:38
Speaker 6: I disagree.
26:38
Speaker 7: I think fans are still as devoted to college and
26:43
Speaker 7: NFL football. If you look at the SEC, those games
26:46
Speaker 7: in those stadiums this week, there wasn't an empty seat
26:48
Speaker 7: in any of them. And I think where the issue
26:51
Speaker 7: lies the most is that the players, is that the
26:55
Speaker 7: little league level, the middle school, high school, the popularity
26:59
Speaker 7: of playing the sport, I think, is lessened. Those kids
27:03
Speaker 7: are playing soccer. They're doing other less physical contact types
27:07
Speaker 7: of sports, which is limiting the number of athletes coming
27:11
Speaker 7: to play football when you get to the.
27:13
Speaker 3: But I also think it is something to be said,
27:15
Speaker 3: because if you talk to just like maybe the casual
27:18
Speaker 3: college football fan, I think they're sort of tuned out
27:20
Speaker 3: because of the movement of everything like that. So I
27:23
Speaker 3: think that's that's that's really hurting the game. And that's
27:26
Speaker 3: why they saw in a rush to pass that. that
27:28
Speaker 3: Nick Saban bill.
27:29
Speaker 4: Why don't they.
27:29
Speaker 5: Tap into the Canadian football league? Why not try to
27:32
Speaker 5: merge the leagues? I mean, they've got like, what, an
27:36
Speaker 5: eight or ten team league up there.
27:37
Speaker 6: I don't think that's a great idea.
27:40
Speaker 4: Yeah, I think that's a great idea. It's just different rules.
27:42
Speaker 6: But you can work on that.
27:44
Speaker 5: Yeah, because I mean, like, there are American players that
27:47
Speaker 5: wind up up there. I think about Marshall, former quarterback
27:50
Speaker 5: Rakeem Kato. He had a great CFL career.
27:53
Speaker 3: Yeah, Michael Hughes was his upper kicker from GW. He
27:55
Speaker 3: was just up there.
27:57
Speaker 5: That, to me, seems like the easy, low-hanging fruit.
27:59
Speaker 6: I like that.
28:00
Speaker 2: Yeah.
28:00
Speaker 3: So, again, another NFL question. So what are your thoughts
28:06
Speaker 3: on owners being overtly involved in football decisions? Obviously, we
28:11
Speaker 3: think of Jerry Jones, but we got to think of
28:14
Speaker 3: Miss Ursae from the Colts.
28:17
Speaker 4: She's a new owner.
28:18
Speaker 3: She inherited from her grandfather or father, so she's like
28:20
Speaker 3: a third-generation owner. And what she's actually doing, not only
28:23
Speaker 3: is she, like, she's on the sideline during the games,
28:28
Speaker 3: and she's at times been listening to the headset so
28:30
Speaker 3: she's getting the calls. Like, directly to, like, figure out
28:34
Speaker 3: what's going on. And I think she recently, I want
28:36
Speaker 3: to say today, just fired her GM.
28:38
Speaker 6: Yes, she sure did.
28:38
Speaker 4: Yeah, so what are your thoughts on the owners being, like,
28:41
Speaker 4: that involved?
28:42
Speaker 7: Well, if you're going to use her example and look
28:45
Speaker 7: at the record of the Colts and look at the
28:46
Speaker 7: example of Jerry Jones and the record of the Cowboys,
28:48
Speaker 7: I would say that it's not that effective of a strategy.
28:51
Speaker 6: I mean, just looking at it doesn't appear to work.
28:55
Speaker 6: But I don't know. I mean, what do you think, Carl?
29:01
Speaker 3: Again.
29:03
Speaker 4: Mike Lynn.
29:06
Speaker 3: Is always where I have to start off when we
29:08
Speaker 3: start talking about stuff like this. I think when you
29:11
Speaker 3: start talking about ownership, I think part of the problem
29:19
Speaker 3: is how that ownership is involved.
29:23
Speaker 4: How invested are they into the game? And I don't
29:30
Speaker 4: know how.
29:33
Speaker 4: I don't know.
29:33
Speaker 3: I just don't... I don't think that... I don't think
29:36
Speaker 3: that there should be any... I don't think we're ready
29:39
Speaker 3: for any... changes of any type right now.
29:45
Speaker 6: Changes as in?
29:46
Speaker 3: As in the way, who's running it? Who's going to
29:50
Speaker 3: run it? Who's going to make the final decisions?
29:55
Speaker 4: Changing the league. Ownerships are going to change the league.
30:01
Speaker 4: They're going to be the main ones changing the league.
30:04
Speaker 3: If they sit around and start talking about, okay, let's
30:08
Speaker 3: do this, let's do this, let's play these games over here,
30:10
Speaker 3: let's do that, all those kind of things, to me,
30:13
Speaker 3: I think that's a problem. Because to Hollis' point, the
30:17
Speaker 3: game has dropped off already. I don't know if you
30:23
Speaker 3: can just hope that you're going to create something that's
30:25
Speaker 3: going to make it grow.
30:27
Speaker 4: I just think that the game has to be better.
30:29
Speaker 3: What I'm asking is, like, owners being involved in day-to-day
30:33
Speaker 3: team decisions. So, like, personnel decisions, you know, who's playing,
30:38
Speaker 3: just like that, basically a meddling owner in their team's
30:41
Speaker 3: day-to-day operations. Here's the problem. They don't see it as meddling.
30:46
Speaker 3: I guess that's the point.
30:48
Speaker 5: Yeah.
30:48
Speaker 4: They don't see it as meddling. What they see is
30:51
Speaker 4: it's mine.
30:55
Speaker 3: I can't grab your phone and start going through it
30:57
Speaker 3: and saying, well, I have a right to do it
31:00
Speaker 3: because I got one or I bought one.
31:03
Speaker 4: And I think that's where we are.
31:04
Speaker 3: We're getting to the point where the ownership is starting
31:09
Speaker 3: to think that they're going to run the team. They're
31:11
Speaker 3: going to manage the team even on the field. And
31:15
Speaker 3: they can't do it. They might be great business people.
31:19
Speaker 4: Yeah. But that doesn't make you a great coach.
31:22
Speaker 7: But are there other examples besides the Colts and the
31:25
Speaker 7: Cowboys of really that being a problem, you feel like?
31:30
Speaker 4: Not that I've heard per se.
31:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah. I mean, we always look at like the
31:33
Speaker 3: old Lakers and the Bust family. They were super involved. Obviously,
31:37
Speaker 3: they had results there. But I think that, you know,
31:41
Speaker 3: football is just so different. Yeah, that's it right there.
31:44
Speaker 6: That's it.
31:44
Speaker 3: Like I always tell people, people are like, well, you know,
31:47
Speaker 3: they need to start a league or da-da-da-da-da-da. I mean,
31:50
Speaker 3: at a minimum, you probably need like 10 coaches just
31:53
Speaker 3: to like say go, right? Right. And it's so nuanced.
31:57
Speaker 3: And football is such a detailed type of sport. It's
31:59
Speaker 3: really about if you're not digging in the details about
32:03
Speaker 3: like how you're coaching, I think that's what separates like
32:05
Speaker 3: Nick Saban from other coaches, right? Because he's so like minute,
32:08
Speaker 3: micro details about everything. So I think if you don't
32:12
Speaker 3: have a deep understanding of football, football strategy, personnel, a
32:18
Speaker 3: technique and all those things, it's sort of hard to
32:21
Speaker 3: assess and judge. And that's what will happen when you
32:25
Speaker 3: have the Mike Lynn-type ownership that wants to be involved,
32:30
Speaker 3: but you don't really.
32:32
Speaker 4: Know what's going on.
32:33
Speaker 6: You don't know what you're doing.
32:35
Speaker 4: And you're making decisions.
32:36
Speaker 6: I mean, Jerry Jones has been doing this for years.
32:39
Speaker 6: And look at the outcomes. I mean, it's just, you know,
32:43
Speaker 6: it's the truth, right?
32:44
Speaker 7: And you talk to Cowboy fans that are, you know,
32:47
Speaker 7: every year this is our year, which we all say
32:49
Speaker 7: that in the NFL. But their biggest complaint, and they'll
32:53
Speaker 7: tell you this, almost every fan that you talk to,
32:55
Speaker 7: until Jerry Jones gets his nose out of the franchise's
33:01
Speaker 7: actual day-to-day operations and business, it's going to be like this.
33:05
Speaker 5: Woody Johnson and the Jets is another one. Jets have
33:08
Speaker 5: been terrible for a long time, too, and he's got
33:09
Speaker 5: his fingers in a lot.
33:11
Speaker 3: And see, when you look at those teams. See, it
33:12
Speaker 3: doesn't work. Yes, because they're in it for themselves. They
33:17
Speaker 3: don't have any coaching experience. I seriously doubt that they
33:22
Speaker 3: have any GM kind of stuff. They're just money folks.
33:27
Speaker 3: They're just owners who are going to, like, I can't
33:31
Speaker 3: walk into your job and tell you, well, Lisa, you know,
33:35
Speaker 3: here's what I think your problem is.
33:37
Speaker 7: It's like being the owner of a hospital and walking
33:40
Speaker 7: in saying, I'm going to perform heart surgery today.
33:42
Speaker 6: You know, pretty much. Yes.
33:45
Speaker 3: And I think what, and to Hollis's point, I think,
33:50
Speaker 3: The more we get that, I think the worse the
33:52
Speaker 3: game is going to be. I just think it's just,
33:56
Speaker 3: because players are not happy when they're in those organizations.
34:00
Speaker 4: They hate it.
34:01
Speaker 3: I mean, the Viking organization itself for me and the
34:06
Speaker 3: team and all of that was great. The upper management,
34:14
Speaker 3: I'll say individual, made it the worst situation ever.
34:19
Speaker 5: Yeah.
34:20
Speaker 4: Just one person.
34:21
Speaker 6: And that's all it takes.
34:22
Speaker 4: That's all it takes.
34:23
Speaker 6: That's all it takes.
34:24
Speaker 4: Because there's nobody who can say anything about it. All right.
34:28
Speaker 3: So speaking of that, just moving on from NFL to college. Now,
34:32
Speaker 3: unless you correct me if I'm wrong, five out of
34:35
Speaker 3: the seven top teams, so like one, two, three, four, five, six, seven.
34:39
Speaker 4: We're not talking about just top. It's like theoretical. We're
34:41
Speaker 4: saying the rankings.
34:43
Speaker 2: Right.
34:43
Speaker 3: So five of the seven top teams lost this weekend.
34:47
Speaker 3: This is the first time this has ever happened that
34:50
Speaker 3: that many teams lost. And again, it's because of NILs,
34:54
Speaker 3: because of transfer. It's because of the talent is not
34:58
Speaker 3: concentrated anymore. So if you're in Florida now, Florida State, Miami,
35:03
Speaker 3: and FSU just can't stack up talent like they used to.
35:06
Speaker 3: Those guys are totally spread out. So the question is,
35:09
Speaker 3: is this level of parity good for college football or not?
35:15
Speaker 7: Well, I mean, you know, as much as fans and
35:18
Speaker 7: we've talked about this time and time again on the podcast,
35:20
Speaker 7: as much as we, you know, dislike, I don't want
35:24
Speaker 7: to say hate, dislike NIL and we dislike the transfer
35:27
Speaker 7: portal and everything that goes along with it. You know,
35:30
Speaker 7: it really does appear that we were finally, you know,
35:33
Speaker 7: it's kind of leveling out. Like in the beginning, it
35:36
Speaker 7: was like, OK, we're seeing the haves get more and
35:38
Speaker 7: the have nots. still the true have-nots like Marshall, the
35:43
Speaker 7: lower tier, you know, those teams, you know, it hurts
35:46
Speaker 7: them still. But I think if you get above a
35:49
Speaker 7: certain level, like for the Big 12, the, you know, conference.
35:53
Speaker 6: Power four. Power four, that.
35:56
Speaker 7: It's starting to level out. But we're seeing that with
35:58
Speaker 7: the wins and losses this past weekend. I just want
36:02
Speaker 7: to go over them real quick in case somebody missed it. But, okay,
36:05
Speaker 7: number one, Georgia lost to an unranked Auburn team.
36:09
Speaker 2: Crazy.
36:09
Speaker 6: Unranked, right?
36:10
Speaker 3: That's crazy.
36:11
Speaker 6: Of course, Notre Dame lost to BYU. BYU was ranked eight.
36:14
Speaker 6: Notre Dame, two.
36:15
Speaker 7: Number five, Indiana, lost to Ohio State at home. But
36:18
Speaker 7: Ohio State was ranked number four.
36:19
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's not really.
36:20
Speaker 7: Wasn't too horrible. Alabama lost to Tennessee. Alabama was six. Tennessee, 14.
36:25
Speaker 7: Number seven, Texas, lost to unranked Florida.
36:29
Speaker 3: And we'll talk about that one a little later. But
36:31
Speaker 3: I think, to your point, Coastley, you talked about NFL.
36:36
Speaker 3: You talked about guys playing in systems. What's happened in
36:39
Speaker 3: addition to guys with the money and spread it out,
36:42
Speaker 3: I think it's caused guys to make non-football decisions. So
36:47
Speaker 3: I think you'll have this player, like the quarterback from Michigan. Obviously,
36:52
Speaker 3: that quarterback from Michigan doesn't necessarily fit into that system
36:56
Speaker 3: that they're trying to run. So what happens is that
36:59
Speaker 3: you're looking at a paycheck instead of going to the
37:02
Speaker 3: system that fits you.
37:03
Speaker 4: That makes sense. Because before, if I'm a player.
37:08
Speaker 3: And I'm, you know, I'm getting maybe some dark money
37:10
Speaker 3: and money under the table. But, you know, I would
37:12
Speaker 3: have to look. You're looking at facilities. You're looking at
37:15
Speaker 3: academic stuff. But you're also primarily looking at, okay, do
37:19
Speaker 3: they run a system that's conducive to my skill set?
37:22
Speaker 3: And I think players, that's like second or third now.
37:25
Speaker 6: Exactly.
37:25
Speaker 3: Because they're looking at the money and the revenue generating opportunities.
37:29
Speaker 3: Because it's that idea of I can't pass this money up.
37:33
Speaker 4: I can't let it go.
37:35
Speaker 3: So whether or not they're running a wishbone and I'm
37:38
Speaker 3: a dropback quarterback, if they're going to.
37:41
Speaker 4: Pay me enough, I'm going to go.
37:43
Speaker 3: But is this good for, it's just outside of that,
37:48
Speaker 3: is like having this sort of parody where we really
37:50
Speaker 3: don't know who's the best team.
37:52
Speaker 4: Is that good for college?
37:53
Speaker 3: Because we never really, because in college sports, you always
37:55
Speaker 3: had about that five teams that you knew.
37:57
Speaker 4: That was going to always be there. Yeah, you knew
37:59
Speaker 4: about the five, maybe 10 teams in any given year.
38:02
Speaker 3: I will say it this way. I think that it's
38:06
Speaker 3: good that you can, the parody of it. But the
38:11
Speaker 3: way we got there ultimately is going to blow up
38:15
Speaker 3: It's going to blow up.
38:16
Speaker 4: Yeah, it's blowing up.
38:17
Speaker 3: And so it looks well, but the future, the long-term
38:23
Speaker 3: future is going to blow up.
38:27
Speaker 6: It just needs reined in. I think that's the thing.
38:30
Speaker 7: You've got to set some caps, some limits to how
38:33
Speaker 7: many times you can transfer, how much money you can get,
38:36
Speaker 7: those kind of things.
38:38
Speaker 4: See, I've talked about capping the money for a long time.
38:40
Speaker 3: That's what they're trying to do with the Safe Scholarship Program.
38:45
Speaker 4: Okay so that is part of.
38:46
Speaker 3: That well let me yeah they're gonna cap it yeah
38:48
Speaker 3: I think it's gonna be yeah I think the baseline
38:50
Speaker 3: is 20 and the max is like 47 50 million.
38:57
Speaker 7: I'll take that cap.
39:00
Speaker 6: Yeah, that's a big one.
39:01
Speaker 4: But that's not just football. That's for your whole department.
39:04
Speaker 7: Oh, okay.
39:04
Speaker 4: Not just football. I was going to say.
39:07
Speaker 6: Well, let me ask you guys this.
39:08
Speaker 7: Since we're talking about the parity in college football and
39:10
Speaker 7: what's happening this year with the rankings being crazy, number
39:14
Speaker 7: one's changing almost every week. Do you think that this
39:17
Speaker 7: kind of solidifies the argument of the NCAA? They're wanting
39:22
Speaker 7: to go from the 12 to the 24 team playoff?
39:25
Speaker 7: Do you think that this helps it, their argument?
39:27
Speaker 6: I do.
39:28
Speaker 4: I think it does. And it's like, man, what... about time.
39:30
Speaker 4: Like every other sport has like a, a, a playoff.
39:35
Speaker 3: I mean, again, 24 teams, maybe we could do 16,
39:39
Speaker 3: you know, maybe 17 with the number one getting to
39:41
Speaker 3: buy something. Like, I don't know if we need 24,
39:44
Speaker 3: but it's like, if we've, if we're going to have
39:45
Speaker 3: a top 25 ranking, heck, you might as well just
39:48
Speaker 3: do it. And I think that, you know, every other
39:50
Speaker 3: sport figure out how to manage this. D2, D3 football, NAIA,
39:55
Speaker 3: junior college, like they all figure out how to do this. So,
39:57
Speaker 3: I think it's, you know, it's inevitable and it's about time.
40:00
Speaker 3: I think it's about time. Because you got to get
40:02
Speaker 3: rid of it. So I'm sorry, I don't mean to
40:03
Speaker 3: cut you off, but you got to just get rid
40:04
Speaker 3: of the bowl games.
40:05
Speaker 4: Just get rid of them. Yeah, they're not really them anymore.
40:08
Speaker 6: But you could possibly use a lot of those bowl
40:10
Speaker 6: games to do the 24.
40:11
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah.
40:11
Speaker 6: Just use the names.
40:12
Speaker 3: It's just going to be called like first round fiesta
40:15
Speaker 3: or whatever bowls.
40:15
Speaker 6: You know what I'm saying?
40:16
Speaker 4: Just scale down.
40:17
Speaker 3: What bothers me, I like it, but what.
40:21
Speaker 4: Concerns me is the number of teams. I don't know
40:29
Speaker 4: if that.
40:29
Speaker 3: Number is— I think it's too many.
40:32
Speaker 4: You think 24 is too many? I think 24 is
40:35
Speaker 4: too many.
40:35
Speaker 7: Then they should do away with the AP poll of 24,
40:38
Speaker 7: 25 teams. Which is where I guess they got it.
40:41
Speaker 6: Yeah, that's exactly where they'll get it.
40:43
Speaker 3: So I think the top 25, and like you said,
40:45
Speaker 3: just integrate the bowl games into the round of the playoffs.
40:49
Speaker 3: First round and you'll have all the mayonnaise bowl, the
40:52
Speaker 3: car quest bowl. I think that you just kill the bowls.
40:57
Speaker 3: I think you keep that just integrated into the playoff game.
41:02
Speaker 7: But let's think about this and maybe Matt can do
41:04
Speaker 7: the math for us. How many games, including the regular
41:10
Speaker 7: season games, how many games would a team have to
41:12
Speaker 7: win to win the national championship if we go to
41:14
Speaker 7: a 24 game?
41:16
Speaker 4: I thought it was 16, right? Is 16 or 17?
41:19
Speaker 6: Would that be 16 or 17? That's just off the
41:21
Speaker 6: top of my head.
41:23
Speaker 4: I thought it was 17 games.
41:24
Speaker 5: Well, all right. So if you got 24, then you
41:27
Speaker 5: go down to 12. Then you go down to six.
41:33
Speaker 7: See, it's kind of like confusing.
41:35
Speaker 4: Yeah, you would have to figure out.
41:37
Speaker 5: You'd have to have some kind of.
41:38
Speaker 6: You'd have to sit down and do some kind of formula.
41:40
Speaker 2: Yeah.
41:40
Speaker 6: Because if you win, you keep moving on.
41:42
Speaker 3: You lose.
41:44
Speaker 6: You're out.
41:45
Speaker 5: Yeah, somehow in that first round you've got to figure
41:47
Speaker 5: it out.
41:47
Speaker 6: But there's a number.
41:47
Speaker 5: I'll find out this week.
41:48
Speaker 6: We'll figure it out.
41:49
Speaker 4: So how many rounds? If you had 24, so you
41:50
Speaker 4: have 12 on each side.
41:52
Speaker 3: So you've got one round, so that takes you down
41:57
Speaker 3: to 12. Then you've got the round of six.
42:00
Speaker 5: Yeah, so you'd have to do something there to break
42:02
Speaker 5: that down to where it's four and then two.
42:04
Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah.
42:05
Speaker 6: Four and two. Yeah, I don't know how they'll do it.
42:07
Speaker 7: But I just think it's a lot of– I was
42:11
Speaker 7: a reading specialist in my defense when I taught.
42:13
Speaker 5: Well, I mean, you can do some kind of like
42:17
Speaker 5: wild card or something similar. I mean, that's how we
42:19
Speaker 5: do it in professional sports is just wild card.
42:22
Speaker 4: Do you think that that's what they're going to do?
42:23
Speaker 4: They're going to probably use the whole wild card system?
42:27
Speaker 7: Marshall did it years ago whenever they were– 1AA.
42:31
Speaker 6: Yeah, 1AA. That's how they won their championship. But I
42:33
Speaker 6: don't know if it was 24 teams.
42:35
Speaker 4: I think it was about 24 teams.
42:36
Speaker 6: It was a lot. I remember they were playing every week.
42:38
Speaker 4: D2 championships is 24 teams.
42:39
Speaker 6: Yeah, there you go. And that's what it was.
42:42
Speaker 3: But they break it down like super regional. They do
42:44
Speaker 3: stuff like that. But I think you're going to end it.
42:48
Speaker 3: Because if you got what? You got 12 regular season games?
42:51
Speaker 4: Or 11? 11.
42:52
Speaker 6: Depends on if you go to the conference championship, right?
42:55
Speaker 4: So that's 13.
42:55
Speaker 3: Yeah, you've got to consider that one, too. So you've
42:59
Speaker 3: got 13. So I want to say it's about 17 games.
43:02
Speaker 6: That's a lot.
43:05
Speaker 5: That's an NFL regular season.
43:07
Speaker 7: And if you're being paid like NFL players, we're going
43:10
Speaker 7: to expect the same performance.
43:11
Speaker 4: And, again, it's money. It's money.
43:14
Speaker 6: It's all money.
43:15
Speaker 5: Marshall was in a 16-team bracket.
43:17
Speaker 6: Okay, okay. And it seemed like it lasted forever. I
43:20
Speaker 6: can't imagine 24.
43:21
Speaker 3: All right, speaking of pay, we got Arch Manning. So
43:25
Speaker 3: there's been a lot of, basically, that's been outside of,
43:29
Speaker 3: you know, the parody talking as far as college sports
43:31
Speaker 3: is concerned. That's been the big talking point. And they're basically,
43:36
Speaker 3: some guys are saying, hey, he needs to, possibly be benched.
43:41
Speaker 3: Other guys are just saying like, hey, man, he's not great.
43:43
Speaker 2: He's good.
43:44
Speaker 3: And this is what you're going to have. And I
43:46
Speaker 3: think the bench argument is just around like how good
43:48
Speaker 3: their defense is. And it's an opportunity for them to
43:50
Speaker 3: win the championship this year. But, you know, when we
43:53
Speaker 3: talk about a player of that magnitude with that last
43:56
Speaker 3: name coming, you know, sort of managing those expectations, are
44:02
Speaker 3: we allowing ourselves for the opportunity just to watch the
44:05
Speaker 3: guy develop. Like he just made, I mean, he's been
44:08
Speaker 3: in the system three years now. He may not just,
44:11
Speaker 3: I mean, it may take him another year just to develop.
44:14
Speaker 3: Do we have that patience anymore? Can we just say, hey, man,
44:17
Speaker 3: you're not going to get it all right now. You're
44:19
Speaker 3: not as great as what we thought initially. Maybe you
44:21
Speaker 3: need a little extra time.
44:23
Speaker 4: No, I'm not. I agree with you.
44:26
Speaker 7: But you can tell Carl came from the NFL, the
44:29
Speaker 7: old school NFL.
44:30
Speaker 4: I'm with you.
44:31
Speaker 3: I understand 100 percent. And you are exactly right. But
44:37
Speaker 3: sports doesn't have that anymore. There is none of that.
44:40
Speaker 3: What are you going to give me right now? And
44:43
Speaker 3: part of that, I'm giving you this money. I expect
44:46
Speaker 3: you to be this.
44:47
Speaker 4: That's true. So I don't have no time for you to.
44:51
Speaker 4: Okay, so you should develop. We're going to give you
44:54
Speaker 4: this money. Play as a freshman. Okay? You did okay.
44:58
Speaker 4: Now as a sophomore, we need you. You don't get.
45:06
Speaker 3: three, four years at any level and you ain't showing
45:10
Speaker 3: out and you're getting paid a bunch of money.
45:13
Speaker 7: I think he's inconsistent though, isn't he?
45:15
Speaker 6: I mean, he looks like, okay.
45:17
Speaker 7: So when I've watched him, you know, play the few
45:19
Speaker 7: times that I've seen Texas on TV that, you know,
45:22
Speaker 7: I've tuned in, you know, he looks comfortable when he
45:24
Speaker 7: like hits the, the, the deep downfield shots. Like he,
45:27
Speaker 7: he seems to be okay with those, but you know,
45:30
Speaker 7: then he struggles though with just like routine, like check
45:33
Speaker 7: downs and, And simple, you know.
45:35
Speaker 6: Short routes. So do you think that's his execution.
45:39
Speaker 3: Or is it coach called the plays? No, I think, well,
45:44
Speaker 3: you got to be the, you know, if Hollis can't,
45:46
Speaker 3: if I call a deep ball and Hollis can't throw it.
45:49
Speaker 4: He can't be my guy. Well, I think, like, it's
45:51
Speaker 4: two things. So I say this.
45:54
Speaker 3: Number one, they're trying to make, trying to put a
45:57
Speaker 3: square peg into a round hole.
45:58
Speaker 6: There you go.
45:59
Speaker 3: He's an athlete. He's a dual threat quarterback. You got
46:02
Speaker 3: to run him. And that's what they kind of don't
46:05
Speaker 3: want to do, just running. He's a guy who can run,
46:08
Speaker 3: get on the edge. He can do a lot. He's
46:10
Speaker 3: a really good athlete, right? So I think they're trying
46:13
Speaker 3: to just set him in the pocket and he has
46:15
Speaker 3: to read.
46:15
Speaker 4: And that may not be his strong suit now. Pit
46:18
Speaker 4: him in the gun and let him run.
46:19
Speaker 6: Yeah, I agree.
46:20
Speaker 3: And I'm going to say this, and I said this
46:22
Speaker 3: last year when I first seen him, something is wrong
46:25
Speaker 3: with that shoulder. And I'm telling you as a quarterback,
46:28
Speaker 3: the way he moves the shoulder, the way he throws
46:30
Speaker 3: inconsistent like you just said. Because sometimes when you got
46:35
Speaker 3: a shoulder problem, and I'm not saying it's deep or
46:37
Speaker 3: tear or anything, but I'm saying it could possibly be
46:39
Speaker 3: some sort of tendonitis. The deep balls tend to be
46:43
Speaker 3: a little easier for you because you can get the
46:45
Speaker 3: full expansion. But sometimes when you're throwing those intermediate route,
46:49
Speaker 3: you got to get the zip. And what happens is
46:51
Speaker 3: it's not about power at that point. It's about the
46:53
Speaker 3: quickness of that release. And sometimes it's hard to get
46:56
Speaker 3: that gun up there. And, you know, I wish y'all
47:00
Speaker 3: can't see me, but it's hard to just... It's hard to.
47:02
Speaker 4: Get that quick... I feel blessed.
47:04
Speaker 3: Yeah, it's hard to get that quicker movement.
47:06
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, yeah. You know what I mean?
47:08
Speaker 3: That makes sense. Something's wrong with that shoulder. Maybe he
47:11
Speaker 3: doesn't want to disclose. Maybe he doesn't want to have
47:13
Speaker 3: the surgery. But I think ultimately... Man, they just got
47:17
Speaker 3: to get a different system and let him run the ball.
47:19
Speaker 3: Let him be an athlete.
47:20
Speaker 4: And again, that's the situation where... I want you to
47:25
Speaker 4: do this in my system, and I don't want you
47:27
Speaker 4: to run.
47:28
Speaker 3: And then based on his family history, there's never really
47:33
Speaker 3: been a, you know, none of the quarterbacks have been
47:35
Speaker 3: really that mobile.
47:36
Speaker 4: But the granddaddy was. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But the uncle
47:40
Speaker 4: and the dad. Yeah.
47:42
Speaker 3: Well, his dad, again, you got to remember, his dad
47:43
Speaker 3: was the best athlete. Cooper was the best athlete out
47:46
Speaker 3: of the bunch. Remember, he was the receiver. Yes. He
47:48
Speaker 3: ended up getting sick, so he didn't have a career,
47:50
Speaker 3: you know, outside of high school. But he's got that
47:53
Speaker 3: athletic of the daddy and his, excuse me, the granddaddy
47:57
Speaker 3: and his dad.
47:58
Speaker 4: So, you know, I don't know.
48:01
Speaker 3: It's like, I just wish we could be more patient.
48:03
Speaker 4: But like you said, money don't allow that.
48:07
Speaker 3: And it's a shame that we've got ourself in a
48:10
Speaker 3: situation to where, you know, I'm going to bring you
48:12
Speaker 3: in and I'm going to pay you this money and.
48:18
Speaker 4: I'm starting you as a freshman. Right.
48:21
Speaker 3: And you got to give me a junior, senior kind
48:25
Speaker 3: of performance. Because if not, I'm already starting to look
48:31
Speaker 3: around and are we thinking about who we're going to
48:34
Speaker 3: try to find next year because this ain't going to work?
48:39
Speaker 4: I don't know, dude.
48:41
Speaker 3: Do you know of, at this point in time, off
48:44
Speaker 3: your head, a quarterback– that was an average freshman or
48:50
Speaker 3: an average rookie and is still playing.
48:54
Speaker 4: Three, four, five years later. As a starter. I mean,
48:58
Speaker 4: but he's a junior now, right?
49:00
Speaker 6: Yeah, I think so. He's got one more year. But
49:01
Speaker 6: there's rumors that he's not coming back next year.
49:04
Speaker 4: Where is he going to go? You're talking about, like, draft?
49:07
Speaker 6: Draft. There's rumors. He ain't ready for that.
49:10
Speaker 5: No, no.
49:11
Speaker 7: In fact, they're saying that his recent mock draft boards,
49:15
Speaker 7: they're tumbling quickly.
49:19
Speaker 6: So they're saying, should he stay? Should he go?
49:22
Speaker 7: I mean, I think for, in my opinion, with his shoulder,
49:25
Speaker 7: what you're saying makes a lot of sense, Hollis, with
49:27
Speaker 7: it being some kind of an internal injury, like nagging
49:31
Speaker 7: injury that just comes and goes. He needs time to
49:35
Speaker 7: let that heal, and he also needs more time Just
49:38
Speaker 7: another year of development.
49:39
Speaker 3: But he's got to be the one stepping forward to
49:42
Speaker 3: make sure he can get that time and get it checked.
49:45
Speaker 3: Because to me, most of the time, it's the player
49:49
Speaker 3: who's the one hiding it. Because I'm telling you, man,
49:53
Speaker 3: the way the NFL going, ain't no development in the NFL.
49:55
Speaker 5: No.
49:56
Speaker 4: It's too hard.
49:57
Speaker 3: Like, if you really look at, like, NFL quarterbacks, I'm
50:01
Speaker 3: telling you, man, I— It's getting harder and harder, and
50:04
Speaker 3: it's like less and less dudes out there. So those
50:06
Speaker 3: dudes that can really play are just really, really special
50:10
Speaker 3: because it's just too hard to play, even with the rules,
50:13
Speaker 3: it seems like. You got all the rules to your advantage,
50:16
Speaker 3: but it's still even that much harder because it's just schematically,
50:20
Speaker 3: and the athletes, particularly at the defensive back position and
50:24
Speaker 3: the front four, it's tough, man.
50:26
Speaker 6: You got to be fast. You got to be quick
50:27
Speaker 6: because they're quicker.
50:28
Speaker 4: They're quicker.
50:29
Speaker 6: That line is quick.
50:30
Speaker 4: Go ahead. Go ahead.
50:32
Speaker 7: I was just going to say, okay, so what you're,
50:34
Speaker 7: like I said, what Hollis said about the shoulder injury
50:36
Speaker 7: makes sense.
50:37
Speaker 6: And what you said, Carl, about him maybe hiding.
50:39
Speaker 7: It because, but wouldn't, if you see it, Wouldn't the
50:42
Speaker 7: coaching staff notice a difference in his performance? Are they
50:45
Speaker 7: ignoring him because they don't want to pull him off
50:47
Speaker 7: the field?
50:47
Speaker 6: I mean, what are your theories?
50:49
Speaker 4: I think that that could be true just because of
50:51
Speaker 4: the investment.
50:52
Speaker 6: That's what I mean, yeah.
50:54
Speaker 3: Texas, by and large, I'm not saying they leverage the future,
50:57
Speaker 3: but it's a lot riding on him, not just as
50:59
Speaker 3: far as what they pay, but a lot of people,
51:01
Speaker 3: they're coming to the games to watch ours. It's a
51:04
Speaker 3: lot outside of just what the paycheck is saying. And
51:09
Speaker 3: that Manny name, that's football rules. You know what I'm saying?
51:13
Speaker 3: It sure is. So it's to their advantage for him
51:16
Speaker 3: to be good. They want him to succeed. So they're
51:20
Speaker 3: not going to replace him. No, you're not going to
51:22
Speaker 3: do that.
51:23
Speaker 7: But let's just look at the facts, okay? They were
51:25
Speaker 7: ranked number one at one point. They got beat by Oklahoma.
51:28
Speaker 7: Then they dropped to number seven. Then they got beat
51:31
Speaker 7: by Florida. And now they're at 19. They may not
51:33
Speaker 7: even make the playoff.
51:35
Speaker 2: Yeah.
51:36
Speaker 6: I mean, you know, there's some things.
51:37
Speaker 4: But that's the gamble with the name. That's the gamble
51:40
Speaker 4: with the name. Yeah.
51:42
Speaker 3: And like I said, even like his high school, a
51:44
Speaker 3: lot of people are kind of going back to that
51:45
Speaker 3: where you play 2A football in Louisiana and you didn't
51:48
Speaker 3: really even dominate 2A football in Louisiana. And, you know,
51:52
Speaker 3: I've seen kids dominate 6A football in Louisiana at the
51:56
Speaker 3: quarterback position and end up at like D2s.
51:59
Speaker 4: Yeah. You know what I'm saying? So it's just. I mean,
52:01
Speaker 4: he's got the perfect name, but he may not have
52:04
Speaker 4: the skill set of the ones before.
52:07
Speaker 7: Well, he sure will have the money that comes along
52:09
Speaker 7: with it, regardless of whether he.
52:10
Speaker 6: Makes it or not.
52:11
Speaker 4: WV Cincy, I know we ain't got a lot of time.
52:13
Speaker 7: Oh, yeah. So that was a must-win situation, and they
52:17
Speaker 7: pulled it off. But let me tell you guys, they
52:19
Speaker 7: won it. I think what the final score was 45-42.
52:25
Speaker 7: I said right out of the gate when we started
52:27
Speaker 7: watching the game, I said, whoever gets the ball last wins.
52:30
Speaker 7: Whoever is on offense last is going to win this game.
52:33
Speaker 7: The defense, guys, it's the same story.
52:37
Speaker 4: The what? Exactly.
52:38
Speaker 6: Exactly.
52:39
Speaker 4: There was no defense.
52:40
Speaker 1: No.
52:41
Speaker 6: Like, it's the same story every week.
52:43
Speaker 7: And the offense, you know, this week they were lucky
52:46
Speaker 7: enough that Cincinnati's defense was just as stinky on the
52:48
Speaker 7: field as ours. But they ended up winning it, you know,
52:51
Speaker 7: 35-yard field goal with no time left on the clock.
52:53
Speaker 6: So it was an exciting game.
52:55
Speaker 4: That's awesome. It was a homecoming.
52:56
Speaker 1: Yep.
52:57
Speaker 3: And I think that's a big deal to win a
52:59
Speaker 3: game like that at homecoming. I think that's a good deal,
53:04
Speaker 3: but I don't know if that's going to be a
53:06
Speaker 3: routine going forward. Yeah, because I know WVU, they have TCU.
53:12
Speaker 3: They have Texas Tech. I believe both of those are
53:14
Speaker 3: on the road. They got Kansas coming up. So it
53:18
Speaker 3: ain't getting no easier for them.
53:19
Speaker 5: They have three ranked teams coming up because they've got
53:23
Speaker 5: TCU is currently eighth. Houston is 14, and Utah is 16.
53:27
Speaker 5: So I know they play— Excuse me, Utah is 10th.
53:30
Speaker 3: I know we're running out of time, but they play TCU,
53:33
Speaker 3: and they play Texas Tech back-to-back games, right?
53:35
Speaker 5: Yeah, those are on the road.
53:36
Speaker 4: So I would.
53:38
Speaker 3: Love to know the travel schedule. So if you're flying
53:41
Speaker 3: all the way to Texas, you're going to play that game.
53:43
Speaker 3: Are you flying back and then flying back or are
53:45
Speaker 3: you staying on the road? Well, there's a week off there. Oh,
53:46
Speaker 3: it's a week in between?
53:47
Speaker 5: Halloween weekend, they're off.
53:48
Speaker 4: Okay, got it, got it, got it. Yeah, so that
53:50
Speaker 4: would be a challenge. Oh, my gosh.
53:52
Speaker 3: If you're playing it back-to-back, I just wonder how you
53:54
Speaker 3: do that. And, again, it goes my reason. Again, I'm
53:57
Speaker 3: not necessarily a fan of the same college sports side,
53:59
Speaker 3: but one of the things I hope it can do
54:01
Speaker 3: is do conference realignment.
54:02
Speaker 6: I agree.
54:03
Speaker 3: And you don't get a choice. This is the conference
54:05
Speaker 3: that you're playing in. And you want to do that
54:07
Speaker 3: by– By region, what you do. You know what I'm saying?
54:10
Speaker 3: Which makes sense. WVU, we need to either be in
54:12
Speaker 3: the Big Ten or we need to be in the ACC.
54:14
Speaker 6: Exactly.
54:15
Speaker 4: Come on, man.
54:16
Speaker 7: I was just a couple of, like, I was just
54:18
Speaker 7: the other day, I was watching a game, and California
54:21
Speaker 7: is in the ACC.
54:23
Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah.
54:23
Speaker 7: I was like, what in the world is that? That
54:26
Speaker 7: just blew my mind.
54:27
Speaker 3: Because the thing is, if you're going to talk about, like,
54:29
Speaker 3: having those limited budgets now, and again, it's one thing
54:32
Speaker 3: for a football team because we only got, like, 10,
54:35
Speaker 3: 12 games in a regular season, right?
54:36
Speaker 4: Right.
54:37
Speaker 3: But if you're talking about the volleyball team, the volleyball
54:39
Speaker 3: team played in the BYU and they in California. You
54:43
Speaker 3: can imagine the expense of that. And again, we love volleyball.
54:46
Speaker 3: We love all the Olympic type of sports. But nobody's coming.
54:49
Speaker 3: They're not filling up football arenas, right?
54:51
Speaker 6: Doesn't have the audience.
54:53
Speaker 5: Yeah.
54:53
Speaker 3: And you're going to be better off playing a Cincinnati
54:55
Speaker 3: or playing a Maryland where you're parents can come.
54:57
Speaker 4: And you can recruit regionally again.
55:00
Speaker 3: And again, I just think that there's an overlook of
55:05
Speaker 3: that piece of parenting coming to the game and that
55:07
Speaker 3: kind of stuff. I just don't think that they're looking
55:09
Speaker 3: at it. Any way that they think there's a mass
55:12
Speaker 3: way of making money.
55:14
Speaker 1: Yeah.
55:14
Speaker 4: And they're trying to go that way.
55:15
Speaker 3: Now the schools, I think they have to make some
55:20
Speaker 3: sort of allowance for the parents to fly to a
55:24
Speaker 3: specific amount of games.
55:25
Speaker 4: So that's another... Expense. Expense. You know what I mean?
55:29
Speaker 6: It's out of control.
55:29
Speaker 4: That's crazy.
55:30
Speaker 5: All right.
55:31
Speaker 3: Well, ladies and gentlemen, hope you enjoyed the show and
55:33
Speaker 3: we'll be back again next week.
