- 0:11Speaker 1: Well, that's good to know.
- 0:12Speaker 1: All right time now for the powerful Buick Motors by Jeff Zekin.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, baby, here we go, the five most powerful Buicks ever made.
- 0:21Speaker 1: It's difficult to find an American manufacturer that didn't produce some of the most performance cars during the muscle car golden age.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Buick was no exception.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Iconic models such as the GSX Stage 1 wowed onlookers.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Here we go with the first one.
- 0:36Speaker 1: This is a 1960 five.
- 0:40Speaker 1: It's a 6.5 liter v8, 325 horsepower, 450, 445 foot pounds of torque.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Zero to 60 don, in 10 seconds.
- 0:51Speaker 1: The buick electra was the brand's full-size luxury car over three decades, the car designed to transport passengers in peace and comfort.
- 0:59Speaker 1: So the next one we have here is a 1971 Buick Riviera GS.
- 1:06Speaker 1: Look at that bad boy.
- 1:07Speaker 1: 7.5 liter V8, 330 horsepower, 455 foot-pounds of torque, 0 to 60 in what?
- 1:14Speaker 1: 8.1 seconds.
- 1:16Speaker 1: The second and third generation Riviera is one of the most distinctive looking cars ever made by Buick, especially from the rear end, with the large powerful bulge featured in the trunk.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Don Be careful, there you go.
- 1:28Speaker 1: The Riviera certainly wasn't short of power, but think twice about trying to carry that pace through the tight corners.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Next one we have is the 1970 Electra.
- 1:38Speaker 1: It's just a beautiful car.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Look at that 7.5 liter V8, 3 370 horsepower, 510 on the foot pounds of torque, with a 0 to 60 at 7.1 mike.
- 1:49Speaker 1: As the 70s kicked off, the age of ultra high power, big v8s was coming to an end.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Tightening the emissions by the government regulations meant that power was starting to be capped.
- 1:58Speaker 1: The manufacturers pushed on, though.
- 2:00Speaker 1: While it made the same 500 foot pounds of torque as did the gsx, the engine was tuned to create an extra 10 horsepower.
- 2:09Speaker 1: That is amazing.
- 2:10Speaker 1: The next one we have is a 65 riviera.
- 2:13Speaker 1: Got a pattern here.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Uh, this one is a 7 liter v8.
- 2:17Speaker 1: It is 360 horsepower, 465 foot pounds of torque, zero to 60 in 8.8.0 seconds, while the 71 Riviera was pretty stout.
- 2:27Speaker 1: The most beautiful of the bunch was the 65 Grand Sport model.
- 2:31Speaker 1: I cannot disagree with that.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Buick made it possible for a pair of rabid four-barrel carburetors and dual exhaust system.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Limited slip diff also came as part of the deal, while heavy-duty suspension was also available as an option to ensure to tackle the bends around effectively.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So there you go with that.
- 2:48Speaker 1: That's a beauty, and the last one we have this one, brings back a reminiscence in my heart.
- 2:53Speaker 1: My Aunt Jean had one of these cars.
- 2:55Speaker 1: My cousin Douglas, who's a friend of the show.
- 2:57Speaker 1: This was a beautiful car.
- 2:59Speaker 1: I love this car.
- 2:59Speaker 1: It's a 7-liter VA, 360 horsepower, 465 foot-pounds of torque, 0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds.
- 3:07Speaker 1: I think you need a roll cage or something like that.
- 3:10Speaker 1: The Wildcat sat below the Electra in the Buick's range as more of the performance-geared luxury offering.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Its smaller size and therefore lighter weight meant it was more agile and the road it was quicker on the straights.
- 3:21Speaker 1: So the Super Wildcat GS was a handy sleeper.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Quicker on the straights.
- 3:23Speaker 1: So the Super Wildcat GS was a handy sleeper.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It looked largely like a normal model, but with the sportier wheels that puppy gave it away.
- 3:30Speaker 1: There you go.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Very nice.
- 3:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember the Wildcats when they first came out.
- 3:34Speaker 1: That was a bonus shot.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Yeah, that Wildcat was really a nice-looking car, okay you.
