- 1:29Speaker 2: It is a Monday. This portion of the program is
- 1:32Speaker 2: brought to you by the Dollar Floor Store. Robert Cessna
- 1:36Speaker 2: is here. Rusty Berson is here. You know, I had
- 1:39Speaker 2: to say goodbye to Kirk Bowles Friday because it's the
- 1:41Speaker 2: summer cease you're you're leaving, and because we don't have
- 1:47Speaker 2: anything to talk about the rest of the summer, Rusty
- 1:50Speaker 2: and I just kind of fake of which we do anyway,
- 1:52Speaker 2: but that's kind of a thought.
- 1:53Speaker 7: Plus, you lost that other guy. What was his name, Scoot.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Scoot, Yes, Scott Scott. Yeah, he's gone. Yeah, he's he's gone.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I just got to say hello last Tuesday. That was
- 2:04Speaker 2: a really cool deal.
- 2:05Speaker 7: Yes, it was.
- 2:07Speaker 2: It was very fun. I don't think I'm gonna make
- 2:11Speaker 2: fifty nine years, but I mean, I'm tried, but I
- 2:15Speaker 2: don't think I'm going to make fifty nine years.
- 2:17Speaker 7: Yeah, we talked about that before.
- 2:19Speaker 2: We have you are, I know, we went to your
- 2:23Speaker 2: fiftieth years year and a half ago. Yeah.
- 2:27Speaker 8: I was driving by the newspaper yesterday after I went
- 2:29Speaker 8: to work out at Plant Fit and so me too,
- 2:31Speaker 8: and so I was drive by the backside cause I
- 2:34Speaker 8: needed to get a walk out. Look in the parking lot,
- 2:37Speaker 8: there's like one car in there.
- 2:38Speaker 2: See. Of course there wouldn't be a paper without him
- 2:42Speaker 2: by the tape on, Yeah, tape on the hood.
- 2:45Speaker 7: Yeah, you know Scott like and I know his a
- 2:49Speaker 7: lot said, but people just I took it from granted
- 2:52Speaker 7: almost the first time. I going, Sure you met him early,
- 2:55Speaker 7: and you know, you talk about a guy that's so
- 2:58Speaker 7: even back then, so well connected to Brian College stays,
- 3:01Speaker 7: knew what he was doing.
- 3:02Speaker 2: His whole life is so unassuming. As far as I
- 3:06Speaker 2: melt with you, Uh, Riley, that's okay. We need we
- 3:12Speaker 2: need that, a little adapter that goes in there on
- 3:17Speaker 2: the end. You see what we're saying right there, Go
- 3:20Speaker 2: find go find one of those. You can yank it
- 3:22Speaker 2: off a headphone in the news next door if you
- 3:25Speaker 2: need too. Yeah, but as long as we remember to
- 3:27Speaker 2: put it back.
- 3:27Speaker 7: But then I go to a football game and he's announcing,
- 3:29Speaker 7: and they go to a.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Basketball Yeah, it's like he's everywhere.
- 3:33Speaker 7: And back then we didn't know what Uber was. I
- 3:35Speaker 7: would just said, hey, Scott, can I go with you
- 3:37Speaker 7: to the game? You're going to cover consolidate anyway road
- 3:39Speaker 7: with him? He was Uber before Uber?
- 3:41Speaker 2: Well I do, uh were you still there when he was?
- 3:46Speaker 2: Probably not when he was calling in the high school updates. No,
- 3:49Speaker 2: we had done that before you started right to.
- 3:52Speaker 7: Come along and screw things up after that. But you
- 3:54Speaker 7: know I didn't know that for the longest time either.
- 3:56Speaker 7: Then you start doing research, I go Scott de Lucy was.
- 3:59Speaker 9: Called yeah yeah, oh yeah, yeah yeah, and he was
- 4:04Speaker 9: my He did color for me when I was doing
- 4:06Speaker 9: Aggie basketball, so that, Yeah, that goes back a little lace.
- 4:11Speaker 7: I'm just saying, if you want to do his resume,
- 4:13Speaker 7: you better have some time.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Yeah, with time and a long piece of paper for
- 4:17Speaker 2: the resume.
- 4:18Speaker 7: Just a great guy, you know, don't don't believe.
- 4:20Speaker 2: Yeah, we're gonna miss him. We're gonna we're gonna miss
- 4:23Speaker 2: be around. Oh yeah, he hasn't died, so he No,
- 4:28Speaker 2: I doubt it. We're gonna see if that works. How's
- 4:32Speaker 2: that is that? Okay? Can you hear something?
- 4:34Speaker 7: Just out I'm an old guy. Gotta do things one, two, three,
- 4:37Speaker 7: You try to go one to four, forget it. I'm lost.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Did you watch any college baseball this weekend? There was
- 4:46Speaker 2: some good college baseball this week Yeah.
- 4:48Speaker 8: I was really impressed to see Troy, I mean West
- 4:51Speaker 8: Virginia the first time for either one of those programs
- 4:55Speaker 8: in there.
- 4:55Speaker 7: Yeah, because I looked at the numbers.
- 4:57Speaker 8: To day and I saw you probably saw the stat
- 4:59Speaker 8: is only uh last three n c A uh work
- 5:04Speaker 8: Men's College World Series, there's only one repeat. It was
- 5:06Speaker 8: North Carolina out of the last three. So twenty three
- 5:09Speaker 8: different teams have been to the last three college did
- 5:13Speaker 8: not know that, didn't.
- 5:14Speaker 7: Know that far back.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Yeah, that's incredible. I mean, think about that. Georgia. Georgia
- 5:18Speaker 2: hasn't been since I forget I saw that stat. It's
- 5:22Speaker 2: been a lot.
- 5:22Speaker 8: At first, I looked at the I guess the meme
- 5:26Speaker 8: or whatever, and it said there was two a's on there,
- 5:29Speaker 8: and I was like, well Alabama's No, that was Arkansas.
- 5:32Speaker 8: So it was last year. So yeah, it's pretty phenomenal. Man.
- 5:35Speaker 2: You look at the parody. It's never been like this,
- 5:37Speaker 2: it has not. I think we need to get used
- 5:40Speaker 2: to that. Probably. Yeah. Absolutely.
- 5:42Speaker 7: I was enthralled by Georgia and Mississippi.
- 5:46Speaker 2: Oh my gosh.
- 5:46Speaker 7: That's because I wanted to see another home run derby.
- 5:49Speaker 7: I didn't want to leave it away from the team.
- 5:51Speaker 7: And yesterday, honest to God, to committed from church and
- 5:54Speaker 7: I go back to back homers. I get up walk
- 5:56Speaker 7: just because you missed another way.
- 5:58Speaker 8: Yeah, well I thought you had it wrapped up me too.
- 6:02Speaker 8: North Carolina.
- 6:03Speaker 2: They played great, pitched Craight, the same kid that pitched again. Say,
- 6:06Speaker 2: and it's great yesterday Johnson awesome.
- 6:09Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah, I mean there's some really good baseball, and
- 6:12Speaker 8: it was just like God, there was some West Virginia
- 6:15Speaker 8: just manhandled.
- 6:17Speaker 2: And Oklaomba said, stopped hitting.
- 6:19Speaker 8: Yet No, they destroyed Kansas to day.
- 6:21Speaker 2: They did. They just destroyed them.
- 6:23Speaker 7: Yeah. I forgot that game was on and I turned
- 6:26Speaker 7: all of a sudden it said like twelve to two
- 6:27Speaker 7: or something.
- 6:28Speaker 2: Well they beat him like that two games in a row.
- 6:30Speaker 2: I mean, they just dominated.
- 6:33Speaker 8: Yeah, you know, I never I think I told y'all
- 6:37Speaker 8: I was up there in Lawrence. I was in Kansas City, Yeah,
- 6:40Speaker 8: for the Big Twit twelve tournament, the basketball tournament. Yeah,
- 6:45Speaker 8: so A and IM just happened to be playing Kansas
- 6:48Speaker 8: there in February, and I drove over there because I
- 6:51Speaker 8: didn't have any basketball to cover anymore, because of course
- 6:53Speaker 8: they lost in the first round like they did every year.
- 6:56Speaker 8: But I drove over there and it was just the
- 6:58Speaker 8: dinkiest little state.
- 7:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:01Speaker 8: So I never imagined that they'd be hosting the Super
- 7:04Speaker 8: Regional over there.
- 7:05Speaker 2: So it's like anything can happen, right, coaching matters. Coaching matters. Yeah, yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 7: And to see the attendance figures when you looked at
- 7:12Speaker 7: absolutely talk about people.
- 7:14Speaker 2: The crowds all weekend were very impressive. It didn't matter
- 7:17Speaker 2: where you were. Every place was packed at and it
- 7:22Speaker 2: was fun to watch. The crowds were up.
- 7:25Speaker 7: And I can laugh because there you're watching it in
- 7:28Speaker 7: Auburn when it turned south and they showed those fans yes,
- 7:33Speaker 7: and I go, that's that shows it right there.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Man.
- 7:35Speaker 7: Those people just couldn't believe they weren't gonna win that game. Yeah.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Well, you talk about fans everywhere.
- 7:40Speaker 8: They showed that down the left field line like they
- 7:43Speaker 8: couldn't see anything other than Georgia.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Yeah. Right. They were hidden in the corner. Yes, I
- 7:49Speaker 2: mean they were in every corner that they could be it.
- 7:52Speaker 2: They turned. Texas set an attendance record this weekend. They
- 7:56Speaker 2: had eighty five hundred, which the most they've ever had
- 7:59Speaker 2: for a gave me. Only time they've had more fans
- 8:03Speaker 2: is when Nolan Ryan came and pitched an inning and
- 8:07Speaker 2: an exhibition game with the Rangers. They estimated ten thousand.
- 8:11Speaker 2: There were so many people the outfield. They put people
- 8:14Speaker 2: in the outfield. But but for regular They set an
- 8:19Speaker 2: attendance record this week. Amazing. I mean it's the crowds
- 8:24Speaker 2: everywhere you look for that game last night. I don't know, Hey, Daniel,
- 8:30Speaker 2: would you get a box score for the Texas game.
- 8:33Speaker 2: It's had to be close or elementary.
- 8:35Speaker 8: Craig Way reported on his Facebook that he got home
- 8:37Speaker 8: at two am and he was pretty happy.
- 8:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:40Speaker 7: I want to say it ended about twelve That's what
- 8:45Speaker 7: I will say in four hours.
- 8:47Speaker 2: I said this in the first hour. Guys, We've talked
- 8:49Speaker 2: about it before, but it's classic Schlosnagel. Not only is
- 8:55Speaker 2: the is college baseball too long? But Schlasnagel can take
- 8:59Speaker 2: a game another hour. It dies with how he we
- 9:03Speaker 2: remember here right resting because you sat through all those games.
- 9:07Speaker 2: They're taking pitches, they're fouling pitches. It's just that's the
- 9:11Speaker 2: game that he creates.
- 9:13Speaker 8: And he will change pictures and he'll.
- 9:16Speaker 7: Change watched the last time you relieved a picture in
- 9:19Speaker 7: a one two count?
- 9:20Speaker 2: Yes, hey, I saw the the Carolina game was was
- 9:26Speaker 2: was a three oh count yesterday with s C Was
- 9:29Speaker 2: it not three three oh count?
- 9:33Speaker 7: And he came back and pitched too strong?
- 9:35Speaker 2: I think so.
- 9:36Speaker 7: I think he walked the guy. I'm not sure how
- 9:38Speaker 7: long was the game?
- 9:40Speaker 2: Yeah? Just how how long was the game? With the
- 9:42Speaker 2: box score? Because I I think it was probably right.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I went to bed way before that. I knew I
- 9:48Speaker 2: wasn't gonna make it until eight. Yeah. I came in
- 9:51Speaker 2: from the movie and turned it on. I was like, yeah,
- 9:55Speaker 2: it was I think it was four to four when
- 9:58Speaker 2: I turned it off, and I don't remember. It's like
- 9:59Speaker 2: the extending or something. I got this game forever they did.
- 10:03Speaker 7: Then they took the lead. It's pretty good actually, and
- 10:05Speaker 7: then I go, well, this is gonna be good because
- 10:07Speaker 7: we'll get to watch baseball tomorrow during the Yeah. Whatever, Yes,
- 10:10Speaker 7: and then.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Three thirty seven, Okay, so it was before midnight. It was.
- 10:15Speaker 2: It was shorter than.
- 10:15Speaker 7: I started before midnight because I was trying to think,
- 10:18Speaker 7: can I get home before midnight because I got my
- 10:20Speaker 7: work halfating?
- 10:22Speaker 2: Have you ever been home before midnight?
- 10:24Speaker 7: See course, of course I work a lot at the
- 10:26Speaker 7: house anymore.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Okay, you got your computer, Okay.
- 10:29Speaker 7: The dogs help me.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Well, we didn't have internet out for four days, so
- 10:32Speaker 2: when you wouldn't have been working at home or watching anything.
- 10:36Speaker 7: But anyway, getting back what you guys said, it's a
- 10:38Speaker 7: great couple of weekends in the College World Series. It's
- 10:41Speaker 7: time for college baseball to shine. And that's what you like,
- 10:43Speaker 7: the West Virginia story, the Troy story, and then the heartaches.
- 10:47Speaker 8: Too, because I love West Virginia singing John Denver.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I love Yeah. It's pretty fun on
- 10:55Speaker 2: the field, pretty on the field.
- 10:56Speaker 8: The entire stay everybody, I mean the entire stating.
- 11:00Speaker 2: Yeah, top, I'm looking at teams who could you know,
- 11:05Speaker 2: cause problems Ole miss came through right that. Those good
- 11:10Speaker 2: games to watch, and those were good games. And Oklahoma,
- 11:14Speaker 2: as I mentioned when the season started, remember am in
- 11:18Speaker 2: Oklahoma played early, early on, and the story was, Wow,
- 11:22Speaker 2: this pitching staff, there are they? Before the you know,
- 11:26Speaker 2: uh Conference started, they were like one their whole staff
- 11:31Speaker 2: he r a was leading the nation. They're going, wow,
- 11:33Speaker 2: that's pitching. And I'm going, well, the pitching probably didn't
- 11:37Speaker 2: live up to that, because it can't once you start
- 11:40Speaker 2: SEC play. But my gosh, are they hitting the baseball.
- 11:44Speaker 8: There's five SEC teams in.
- 11:46Speaker 2: There, five and there would have been six a Mississippi
- 11:48Speaker 2: State would have finagled a different you know team in Georgia.
- 11:52Speaker 8: But that's the thing you got two first timers, yes,
- 11:54Speaker 8: and you got five SEC schools yes, and then North
- 11:58Speaker 8: Carolina's the only team has been.
- 12:00Speaker 2: I mean, Georgia has to be the favorite, do they not?
- 12:02Speaker 7: Don't you think somebody said that when I listened, they
- 12:05Speaker 7: said they had to be the betting favorite.
- 12:07Speaker 2: And yes that case, yes, and.
- 12:10Speaker 7: You know you're getting back to always remember, but they.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Have to play Georgia in the first game. I mean
- 12:16Speaker 2: Texas in the first game.
- 12:17Speaker 7: And if that picture from Texas, if he's on his game, yes,
- 12:21Speaker 7: he's going to be tough to be Yeah, because we
- 12:23Speaker 7: I will say this, a lot of those home runs
- 12:25Speaker 7: Georgia hit, they're going to be out of Omaha if
- 12:27Speaker 7: they hit the same kind of dis true. True, but
- 12:29Speaker 7: sometimes the wind blows in yep. And sometimes what you
- 12:32Speaker 7: always say, pitch, he's gonna be ye good hitting A
- 12:35Speaker 7: and M was proof without it originals. If you have
- 12:37Speaker 7: pitch and it can carry. But I was rooting against
- 12:40Speaker 7: North Carolina.
- 12:41Speaker 8: You said that george is the betting favorite. Yes, I
- 12:44Speaker 8: think I was going to ask Brendan Soresby what what
- 12:47Speaker 8: he thought.
- 12:47Speaker 2: He'll know.
- 12:49Speaker 7: That, you know we're gonna get to that. You know,
- 12:51Speaker 7: he bet he's gonna win that.
- 12:52Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly where we're gonna get to that. See, you
- 12:56Speaker 2: wrote kind of an end of athletics column this life
- 13:00Speaker 2: right and incorporated some of the other besides just baseball. Uh,
- 13:06Speaker 2: with the idea was this a was this a really
- 13:10Speaker 2: good year? You know what? What kind of letter greater
- 13:13Speaker 2: are you giving the athletic apartment? I mean you won
- 13:17Speaker 2: a national championship right in women's tennis too in volleyball,
- 13:23Speaker 2: and I'm sorry that was back. That's been so long ago,
- 13:26Speaker 2: but yes, two national championships.
- 13:32Speaker 7: It's funny you mentioned that because my college is more
- 13:34Speaker 7: about baseball. But actually I delved in today is everybody
- 13:38Speaker 7: always likes to look at the Learfield Cup. Yes, sports
- 13:42Speaker 7: are coming. I don't because they count skiing the same
- 13:46Speaker 7: as football.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Yeah, in the count ski or beach volleyball. But I
- 13:50Speaker 2: will say this just to play beach ball rolling yeah
- 13:53Speaker 2: when you when you live in Brackhaus Station.
- 13:55Speaker 7: But I will say this, but the Sears Cup did,
- 13:57Speaker 7: which by the way, originated like nineteen ninety three.
- 14:01Speaker 2: What are the difference between those two then?
- 14:03Speaker 7: Just the sponsor?
- 14:05Speaker 2: Okay, but are they scored the same? Uh?
- 14:08Speaker 7: They scored the same, because it's the same name, but
- 14:11Speaker 7: they've changed how they score over the years. Okay, because
- 14:14Speaker 7: they originally said, let's just go with like fifteen or
- 14:16Speaker 7: nineteen sports. Yeah, then they said, now you've got to
- 14:19Speaker 7: claim five. Everybody claims baseball, women's basketball, the Big five,
- 14:24Speaker 7: Big Big five or six. But getting back to what
- 14:27Speaker 7: you you your question was and yours, I think everybody
- 14:32Speaker 7: talks about. To me, the buzzword is we want to
- 14:36Speaker 7: have an all around program. I don't care who you are.
- 14:39Speaker 7: Most ads are not going to say I'm going to
- 14:40Speaker 7: concentrate on men's basketball or I'm not going to concentrate football,
- 14:43Speaker 7: because we live in a society where you're gonna everybody matters.
- 14:46Speaker 7: So you got to say all around.
- 14:48Speaker 2: I mean, we say that, but we know that's not
- 14:52Speaker 2: the case. Not the case. Okay, it's it's the case
- 14:55Speaker 2: if football is not very good and you can win
- 14:58Speaker 2: a national championship and and I'm not saying A and
- 15:01Speaker 2: M won't bring good in football. I'm just I'm just
- 15:03Speaker 2: saying it's it's the case if somebody's not good in football,
- 15:08Speaker 2: right and you win, and you go, oh look what
- 15:10Speaker 2: we did. You know, we finished second the Director's Cup,
- 15:13Speaker 2: and most fans in the United States right now of
- 15:16Speaker 2: college athletics are gohead. I don't really care you finished
- 15:19Speaker 2: second the Director's Cup because you were five and eleven
- 15:22Speaker 2: or five and seven in football. This yere right.
- 15:25Speaker 8: Well, they care about the revenue sports, and the revenue
- 15:27Speaker 8: sports there's only two. Yeah, and then men's basketball, man,
- 15:31Speaker 8: and okay, they care about the big three most fans do.
- 15:35Speaker 8: We was talking about the turnout at these college baseball Yes. Yeah,
- 15:38Speaker 8: college baseball is a very popular sport more than ever.
- 15:42Speaker 8: You're seeing great quality because you're getting these guys to
- 15:44Speaker 8: stay for their senior year. Yes, and you're getting lower
- 15:47Speaker 8: income kids who can come to school here and play
- 15:49Speaker 8: baseball because they couldn't in the past because they had
- 15:52Speaker 8: the partial scholarships. So you're seeing they're putting a lot
- 15:55Speaker 8: of money into these baseball programs and they want results.
- 15:58Speaker 2: Yes.
- 16:00Speaker 7: I answer your question this way. When you judge all
- 16:05Speaker 7: fifteen sixteen sports at the A and M House, and
- 16:08Speaker 7: you line up what they did last year, and you
- 16:10Speaker 7: line up what the is year considering your track does well,
- 16:15Speaker 7: it's almost a flush. It's almost even okay, because what
- 16:19Speaker 7: happens is the baseball team went to the tournament, which
- 16:23Speaker 7: they didn't last year, but they didn't go past the
- 16:25Speaker 7: first round, right, Softball did not go past the first round. Again, Football,
- 16:30Speaker 7: you have a great.
- 16:31Speaker 2: Year because you went to the playoffs.
- 16:33Speaker 7: You went to the playoffs. Men's basketball big step forward
- 16:37Speaker 7: a game, but women's basketball is still not taking that
- 16:40Speaker 7: step forward. So you take all the sports. Soccer didn't
- 16:43Speaker 7: go to the posting. I'll just say, when you consider
- 16:46Speaker 7: all the all the sports, it's going to be almost
- 16:48Speaker 7: a wash.
- 16:49Speaker 8: Well, I mean I would, I'm not going to consider
- 16:51Speaker 8: all the sports. I don't that's not my I understand
- 16:56Speaker 8: kind of criteria. I mean, I love the volleyball Mass Championship, right,
- 16:59Speaker 8: we talked about that last That was a fun run.
- 17:02Speaker 8: And I watched every one of those games in the postseason,
- 17:05Speaker 8: and you know, kind of worked by schedule around getting there.
- 17:08Speaker 2: You know, I was exciting and but for the.
- 17:12Speaker 8: Most part, I care about football, men's basketball, and baseball. Yes,
- 17:16Speaker 8: So it was a really, really good year because to me,
- 17:22Speaker 8: what Bucky did was just absolutely phenomenal. And they didn't
- 17:26Speaker 8: finish the way they had wanted to because you know,
- 17:29Speaker 8: they struggled down stretch, lost the home game of Texas.
- 17:32Speaker 2: But that doesn't matter. Because they won a game in
- 17:34Speaker 2: the tournament, right, I mean, and they got to the
- 17:36Speaker 2: tournament and they they were very, very compelled. It's my point.
- 17:40Speaker 2: I mean, I understand that that quote didn't finish well,
- 17:44Speaker 2: but hey, again, they won a game, and turn based
- 17:48Speaker 2: on the expectations. That has really based on the expectations.
- 17:53Speaker 8: Last year baseball was a it was terrible, Yes, I
- 17:57Speaker 8: mean number one, number one, and then not make yes.
- 18:01Speaker 8: But so this year baseball was really good based on
- 18:04Speaker 8: the thirteenth in the league and.
- 18:07Speaker 2: The basketball program. They had zero expectations, so they exceeded
- 18:11Speaker 2: Baseball exceeded football. You just didn't know. But they got
- 18:14Speaker 2: to playoff for the first football so I picked them season.
- 18:18Speaker 2: I think you did to to lose four games in
- 18:20Speaker 2: the regular season, so I would say they exceeded expectations.
- 18:25Speaker 8: So basically, your three majors exceeded expectations.
- 18:29Speaker 2: Was a was a good year? Yeah, I agree with you,
- 18:32Speaker 2: And then you throw it two national champions Yes.
- 18:34Speaker 7: But I also would back off and the good comes
- 18:39Speaker 7: good light because great football season, but you lose your
- 18:45Speaker 7: last two games, you losed your rival, and you lose
- 18:47Speaker 7: you lose in college football playoffs at home. Baseball great year,
- 18:53Speaker 7: get out of regionals. So I call it good light
- 18:56Speaker 7: because men's basketball way up there. But they call it
- 18:59Speaker 7: good light because unfortunately, sometimes you remember the ending and
- 19:02Speaker 7: it's always bad.
- 19:03Speaker 8: I don't remember the Houston game in basketball. I remember
- 19:07Speaker 8: them playing just beyond their expectations, beyond there.
- 19:12Speaker 7: He did so much.
- 19:12Speaker 8: Yeah, Agy, even though he played one year, he'll go
- 19:15Speaker 8: down as one of my favorite players.
- 19:17Speaker 2: But you do remember the Texas in the Miami game
- 19:20Speaker 2: in Football's.
- 19:21Speaker 7: That's That's what I'm saying is.
- 19:25Speaker 2: Baseball. I have my hotel in Miami. I had to
- 19:30Speaker 2: get any money back.
- 19:30Speaker 8: I did, got it all back to Charleston, South Carolina.
- 19:34Speaker 2: There you got beautiful. Yeah, okay, so you did well.
- 19:37Speaker 8: Yeah I didn't lose any money.
- 19:39Speaker 2: You did well. I agree with him.
- 19:41Speaker 7: It's amazing.
- 19:41Speaker 2: You're right.
- 19:42Speaker 7: I actually cover so many facts I had to look
- 19:46Speaker 7: up because I go, who did the men's basketball team loses?
- 19:49Speaker 7: Because it was such a good season. All I remember
- 19:51Speaker 7: is a good season. They lost to Houston, they got.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Well, he wasn't even close. So it's like, okay, great year.
- 19:55Speaker 7: But when it comes to baseball and football, I know
- 19:57Speaker 7: exactly who they lost to at the end, right, Chip said.
- 20:00Speaker 2: Because you expected it.
- 20:02Speaker 8: It was a failed season in many ways in baseball
- 20:05Speaker 8: because you didn't.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Take that next step. It's it's now.
- 20:10Speaker 8: I'd say a minus B plus a minus somewhere in there.
- 20:14Speaker 2: I disagree with that. Yea.
- 20:16Speaker 8: So it's like, but you want to see that team
- 20:18Speaker 8: go back because they had such lead hitters and they
- 20:22Speaker 8: had such a lead offense, and you're like, just and
- 20:25Speaker 8: then to see them score one run and just sputter
- 20:29Speaker 8: offensively in the last two games.
- 20:30Speaker 2: But then after seeing that USC pitching staff against a
- 20:34Speaker 2: really good North Carolina team, you're going, hey, and watching
- 20:38Speaker 2: that USC. You know, I'm not an expert, but it
- 20:41Speaker 2: doesn't take much when you watch a team that was
- 20:44Speaker 2: a really good baseball team and elemonaded A and M
- 20:46Speaker 2: last week. Yeah, but it's so hard I see.
- 20:49Speaker 8: But you know, you get little glimpses of the rest
- 20:53Speaker 8: of the country, like I got a little glimpse at
- 20:56Speaker 8: U c L a earlier season.
- 20:57Speaker 2: They're mass champions. Yes, you saw them.
- 21:00Speaker 7: They were awesome.
- 21:00Speaker 8: They were awesome, and then they didn't get out of
- 21:03Speaker 8: the region.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Yeah, they're all regional I know.
- 21:06Speaker 7: And getting back to what you're saying, Hey, it's amazing
- 21:08Speaker 7: can I say this, Yeah, go ahead for the show.
- 21:11Speaker 2: It's really hard to win. Yeah, but it's really hard
- 21:15Speaker 2: to win.
- 21:15Speaker 7: But in football, it's such a great season. I never
- 21:19Speaker 7: think about losing into Vegas ball. I mean when you
- 21:21Speaker 7: stop and think about it was such a great season
- 21:23Speaker 7: because they had a great season baseball. The problem with
- 21:26Speaker 7: baseball to me this is two bad endings in a
- 21:28Speaker 7: row because they didn't go last year when they were
- 21:31Speaker 7: the top seats. So they had really two underachieving years.
- 21:34Speaker 7: And that's kind of tough because now.
- 21:37Speaker 8: Well underachieving yeah in twenty twenty five, for sure, but
- 21:41Speaker 8: they overachieved in twenty twenty six because where they were.
- 21:45Speaker 7: Predicted, right, Yeah, I think the conference thirteenth and the
- 21:51Speaker 7: thirteenth in the conference. So yes, it's a great conference.
- 21:54Speaker 2: From that standpoint. They did over the good point from
- 21:58Speaker 2: the standard that fans look at the program by anything
- 22:04Speaker 2: less than getting to Omaha. And again we talk we
- 22:08Speaker 2: talk about that like, oh, well that's easy. Well obviously
- 22:11Speaker 2: it's not easy, because you just mentioned one of the
- 22:14Speaker 2: last three years easy. It's not as easy as fans
- 22:21Speaker 2: think it should be.
- 22:22Speaker 8: Let's put it that one that's exactly right, and it's baseball,
- 22:25Speaker 8: and it's baseball, and it's that's it's the weirdest game
- 22:30Speaker 8: there is because you just never know.
- 22:33Speaker 7: Well, I think it's more weird because what you said
- 22:35Speaker 7: about more quality you can get to Troy. There's so
- 22:38Speaker 7: many great players out there. You get in a series.
- 22:41Speaker 7: If you have three decent pictures, I don't care who
- 22:44Speaker 7: you are, you're going to give somebody problems.
- 22:46Speaker 8: Yes, yeah, I'd hate to be Alburn around now because
- 22:48Speaker 8: they're they're looking around the state and they're.
- 22:50Speaker 2: Going, oh, man, Alabama made that Troy made.
- 22:53Speaker 7: That's true.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Troy? Is that Troy? I mean, you know Alabama? Troy Alabama. Hey,
- 22:59Speaker 2: you got to have a CoA. I'm not saying they
- 23:01Speaker 2: aft coach is bad. I'm just saying that these teams
- 23:04Speaker 2: that get there, you look at them, and you look
- 23:06Speaker 2: at them for a reason, and you're right Troy. I
- 23:09Speaker 2: mean you you take Troy to Omaha. That's a much
- 23:16Speaker 2: bigger deal than Jim Schleasnegel taking Texas to Oha. Right, yeah,
- 23:21Speaker 2: I mean, good autumn and he's really good at what
- 23:27Speaker 2: they go every year. But Troy getting there, man, that's
- 23:31Speaker 2: an accomplishment. West Virginia getting there with no history that's
- 23:36Speaker 2: an accomplishment.
- 23:37Speaker 7: If one of them could be the next Coastal Carolina,
- 23:40Speaker 7: because you yes, either one of them, Wou'd really be nice,
- 23:44Speaker 7: because you talk about on your bandwagon's Virginia or Troy
- 23:48Speaker 7: get hot up there?
- 23:48Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I mean as hard as it is
- 23:52Speaker 2: to get there, going through all of these tournaments and
- 23:56Speaker 2: the double elimination last week and the best two out
- 23:59Speaker 2: of three this week. Man, that is hard to do.
- 24:02Speaker 8: I'm just glad there's no Big ten teams in there,
- 24:04Speaker 8: so me too.
- 24:05Speaker 2: Yeah, tired of hearing about the Big ten. Well you
- 24:09Speaker 2: know over, Okay, So we're gonna we're gonna take a break.
- 24:13Speaker 2: We're going to change gears. You've already mentioned swords met.
- 24:17Speaker 2: We're going to talk about that situation. And I've already said, uh,
- 24:23Speaker 2: the two commissioners from the two leagues that run things,
- 24:28Speaker 2: they're not outraged at all. They're not outraged at all,
- 24:32Speaker 2: because if they were, you'd heard from no, there'd be
- 24:36Speaker 2: a change. This never would have happened. If they cared,
- 24:39Speaker 2: this never would happen. We'll be back here in just
- 24:41Speaker 2: a minute. I want to send you over. We were

- 29:46Speaker 2: final one was ceased until August. He'll be back for
- 29:49Speaker 2: football season. He needs a break, We need a break
- 29:53Speaker 2: from him. And that's just how it plays out during
- 29:58Speaker 2: the summertimes. The Brendan Soursby situation that they got a
- 30:04Speaker 2: friendly judge in loveck uh. The wording okay, but the
- 30:11Speaker 2: wording listen, listen to this. This is crazy to me.
- 30:15Speaker 2: This Court finds that applicant has demonstrated that he will
- 30:21Speaker 2: suffer a probable, imminent and irreparable injury if this Court
- 30:27Speaker 2: does not issue this temporary injunction because he will be
- 30:32Speaker 2: unable to participate as a member of Texas text twenty
- 30:36Speaker 2: twenty six football team. I thought I thought that Sowresby
- 30:40Speaker 2: made that decision not to participate when he bet five
- 30:43Speaker 2: thousand times, including on his own team at North Carolina State.
- 30:48Speaker 2: Didn't he make that decision? Then? Does? The court says
- 30:51Speaker 2: he'll be irreparably damaged Carolina in Cincinnati, Cincinnati.
- 30:58Speaker 7: He threw me there for a sing That's okay, curveball.
- 31:01Speaker 8: No, I mean I think this is you have to
- 31:03Speaker 8: set a precedent here, and you have to stand up
- 31:05Speaker 8: and say you know something needs to end this because if.
- 31:09Speaker 2: You but haven't we said that rusty with things like
- 31:12Speaker 2: this for the last three years in college.
- 31:13Speaker 8: But what I'm saying is you're opening Pandora's box on
- 31:16Speaker 8: a whole new level. If you're gonna say gambling is
- 31:19Speaker 8: okay and they say it's not okay, but we're gonna
- 31:22Speaker 8: permit him to come back anyway.
- 31:24Speaker 2: What same with Charles Bettiaco.
- 31:26Speaker 8: But the same thing with Bettio even though he only
- 31:29Speaker 8: played what three or four games before that, still plays
- 31:32Speaker 8: he played against an m Yeah, played played a role
- 31:34Speaker 8: in beating a Yes.
- 31:36Speaker 2: So I just think there's got to be some kind
- 31:38Speaker 2: of precedent here because.
- 31:40Speaker 8: In this age where these athletes have money, they don't
- 31:44Speaker 8: have any coaching, really life skills coaching. They're not getting
- 31:50Speaker 8: this fundamental knowledge about, hey, if you invest your money,
- 31:55Speaker 8: it's not gonna always be there. And what's to say that, Hey,
- 31:58Speaker 8: I find out that my inn ail deal is not
- 32:01Speaker 8: nearly as good as my roommates. Well, I get kicked
- 32:04Speaker 8: off and I'm like, you know what, I'm throwing this
- 32:07Speaker 8: game and I've got connections here because I.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Mean, oh, it's dangerous, it's a slippery slope. We've already
- 32:15Speaker 2: talked about betting and how easy it is today for
- 32:18Speaker 2: all college kids, but including athletes who now have money.
- 32:24Speaker 2: Right as you mentioned, they have money to bet, and
- 32:26Speaker 2: it's so easy. It's a click of a phone they
- 32:29Speaker 2: can bet. And the k State athletic director Gene Taylor
- 32:33Speaker 2: has told Yahoo's Sports they have had serious conversations about
- 32:39Speaker 2: not playing Texas Tech in any sport this year. Now,
- 32:45Speaker 2: Cody Campbell would be the first one to this judge's
- 32:48Speaker 2: office tomorrow if the Big twelve comes out and says
- 32:52Speaker 2: we're not playing Texas Tech this year.
- 32:55Speaker 8: Well, well, like I said off the air, the Georgia
- 32:58Speaker 8: Athletic director Josh said the same thing. I think there
- 33:01Speaker 8: needs to be serious conversation about not playing text Tech
- 33:04Speaker 8: in any sports.
- 33:05Speaker 2: He said.
- 33:05Speaker 8: This is not about text tech. It's about protecting our
- 33:08Speaker 8: own locker room. We cannot in good conscience put our
- 33:12Speaker 8: student athletes on a field where the competitive integrity of
- 33:15Speaker 8: the contest is compromised and overridden by the courts.
- 33:19Speaker 2: I mean, so, Cody Campbell has his own statement. I'm
- 33:23Speaker 2: sure he does. All right, now, listen to this wording.
- 33:27Speaker 2: This unfortunate situation is the outcome of a broken system.
- 33:33Speaker 2: I'm doing everything I can to fix it. Again, as
- 33:37Speaker 2: I mentioned earlier, he probably shouldn't use fix when we're
- 33:40Speaker 2: talking about cambling. But until there is a permanent solution,
- 33:45Speaker 2: Texas Tech edits student athletes, this is the only time
- 33:49Speaker 2: we hear them called student athletes have to do the
- 33:54Speaker 2: best they can to navigate and compete amid the chaos
- 33:59Speaker 2: that exist and the reality of the world we live in.
- 34:02Speaker 2: That doesn't have anything to do with gambling. He didn't
- 34:04Speaker 2: say anything about gambling. He just said, you know, the
- 34:08Speaker 2: system's broken. Well, yeah, the system. We already know the
- 34:10Speaker 2: system is broken. But this doesn't have anything to do
- 34:12Speaker 2: with gambling.
- 34:13Speaker 8: Yeah, well, let me tell you this gambling wise. After So,
- 34:17Speaker 8: after the announcement came out this morning, texts projected over under.
- 34:21Speaker 8: I saw that increased.
- 34:23Speaker 2: Not only that, his Heisman odds went from twenty eight
- 34:31Speaker 2: or twenty nine to one down to fourteen to one.
- 34:33Speaker 7: Yeah, okay, I'm kind of busy day.
- 34:35Speaker 2: By the way, that's gambling. By the way, gambling, that's gambling.
- 34:38Speaker 7: Yes, I get up late. So the over unders, Yes,
- 34:41Speaker 7: I haven't read anything. Does the NC do Can they
- 34:43Speaker 7: come back with the counters?
- 34:45Speaker 2: Oh, they're not going to do it. They can't do it.
- 34:47Speaker 8: They've already made their statement. They can't come back.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Really, they've already they had suspended it. They suspended the
- 34:54Speaker 2: ones that suspended it, not the university, right, the university
- 34:57Speaker 2: did not suspend the NC double A. I don't think
- 35:00Speaker 2: it is.
- 35:01Speaker 8: It's pretty as far as him playing, it seems like
- 35:04Speaker 8: a pretty done deal.
- 35:06Speaker 2: You think this judge, district judge cannot be over you.
- 35:09Speaker 2: I don't know that. Yeah, I don't know.
- 35:12Speaker 7: I don't know.
- 35:12Speaker 2: I don't know the problem.
- 35:13Speaker 8: According to a couple of folks I read about today,
- 35:17Speaker 8: you know, the problem is they can delay this thing
- 35:19Speaker 8: long and.
- 35:22Speaker 2: Play all football season. Yeah, so shame Look, look, shame
- 35:27Speaker 2: on the university and it's leadership and the president of
- 35:31Speaker 2: this university for allowing this to happen. He could step in,
- 35:36Speaker 2: not the athletic director, not Cody Campbell. But he's so
- 35:39Speaker 2: afraid that Cody Campbell won't write any work checks. Right, No,
- 35:43Speaker 2: I'm serious. He will not step in. He's not going
- 35:47Speaker 2: to upset Cody Campbell because Cody Campbell runs the university.
- 35:51Speaker 2: And by the way, I'm not Cody Campbell, bless his heart.
- 35:56Speaker 2: He is willing to take the slavings and the bullets. Okay,
- 36:00Speaker 2: there are other there are this bad game they are embracing,
- 36:05Speaker 2: and I'm fine with that. By the way, they're upfront
- 36:08Speaker 2: with it. I am fine with that because there are
- 36:10Speaker 2: other UH donors at other universities who don't want their
- 36:15Speaker 2: name mentioned. Okay, and so I don't. Cody Campbell has
- 36:19Speaker 2: made himself the target because he is unabashed. Yes, I'm
- 36:22Speaker 2: writing checks. Yes, we went to the finals two years
- 36:26Speaker 2: in a row because I bought softball players. I'm gonna
- 36:28Speaker 2: buy some more. I bought a football team. I'm going
- 36:32Speaker 2: to buy some more. I don't have any issue with
- 36:35Speaker 2: that none, because it's being done at every major university.
- 36:40Speaker 2: The problem, okay, I.
- 36:41Speaker 8: Would say, though, the problem is if Texas Tech's president
- 36:45Speaker 8: was to say you're out, then sores Beeed now has
- 36:48Speaker 8: a legal case against Texas Text president and he's got
- 36:52Speaker 8: five million dollars in his pocket to.
- 36:55Speaker 2: I don't care about that. I'm gonna make that decision.
- 36:57Speaker 2: That is right. If the courts come in again and say,
- 37:01Speaker 2: you know, like they did today, that's fine. But I'm
- 37:04Speaker 2: going to make the right decision. I'm going to come
- 37:07Speaker 2: out like yes, or the president of Alabama should have rusty.
- 37:14Speaker 2: We've talked about this till I'm sick of it, and residents,
- 37:19Speaker 2: they've disappeared with all of this stuff. They have disappeared.
- 37:25Speaker 2: They are not even public about any of this because
- 37:28Speaker 2: they're just going, well, it's beyond us. We can't do
- 37:31Speaker 2: anything about it.
- 37:32Speaker 8: I'm afraid that's where they are right now. Of course
- 37:34Speaker 8: they are because they're far less powerful than the football
- 37:37Speaker 8: coach and the football player.
- 37:39Speaker 2: I will maintain they've always been though rusty, but in
- 37:42Speaker 2: the past a few of them have had the guts
- 37:44Speaker 2: to stand up and say no, this won't stand. Okay,
- 37:49Speaker 2: as a university, this will not stand. What kind of
- 37:53Speaker 2: message are we sending as a university saying this kid
- 37:57Speaker 2: who needs help thirty days, he ain't going to cure
- 38:01Speaker 2: this kid of a gambling habit. Now, I don't know
- 38:03Speaker 2: a lot about the addiction, but I know about addictions
- 38:06Speaker 2: in general, and him going away for thirty days ain't
- 38:10Speaker 2: gonna cure anything. And if a president had the guts
- 38:15Speaker 2: to stand up and say no, he is not playing
- 38:19Speaker 2: football for our university, I don't care, he's not playing
- 38:22Speaker 2: football for our universe, reshing, it'd be unbelievable because nobody's
- 38:28Speaker 2: doing it anymore.
- 38:29Speaker 7: I was gonna say what school's doing.
- 38:31Speaker 2: That they're not just none of them zero zip. You know.
- 38:37Speaker 8: I go back to this and my son growing up,
- 38:40Speaker 8: was a baseball player, and he got into some trouble
- 38:45Speaker 8: right for his senior year, and I told him baseball
- 38:49Speaker 8: is not a right, it was a privilege, and you're
- 38:52Speaker 8: not playing anymore. And we went up to talk to
- 38:54Speaker 8: the coach, and the coach looked at me and goes,
- 38:58Speaker 8: are you sure you want to do this? Like, yeah,
- 39:03Speaker 8: I mean because what I'm doing, I'm sending.
- 39:05Speaker 2: You bring up an issue, Rusty, where this kid's parents? Right?
- 39:08Speaker 15: It was like, I'm setting a precedent that get into
- 39:12Speaker 15: my family and my family and my family, which I
- 39:15Speaker 15: still have an opportunity to make decisions, right, But I just.
- 39:20Speaker 8: Even questioning me as a parent because I was making
- 39:23Speaker 8: my son.
- 39:23Speaker 2: That's crazy. That's crazy. No, I agree. I mean, where's
- 39:27Speaker 2: Brendan Soarsby's parents? Well, see, you bring up the point.
- 39:34Speaker 2: I mean he's making he's making million. Yeah maybe they
- 39:38Speaker 2: can't make a new house pay, but.
- 39:41Speaker 7: You make a lot of money.
- 39:42Speaker 3: He did.
- 39:43Speaker 7: It's happened before.
- 39:44Speaker 2: I mean it's gonna happen again. But it's just, uh,
- 39:48Speaker 2: I'm I'm dumbfounded at how all of these quote leaders
- 39:53Speaker 2: and they're not leaders because they're not doing anything. They're
- 39:55Speaker 2: not leaders. They're not leading, and they don't want to leave.
- 39:59Speaker 8: They're making a lot money, but not nearly as much
- 40:01Speaker 8: money as the athlete.
- 40:02Speaker 2: They are making a lot of money.
- 40:04Speaker 8: There's no present that I know of is making five
- 40:06Speaker 8: million dollars like the quarterback text text make a five
- 40:10Speaker 8: million you bring up some point.
- 40:12Speaker 2: I mean, who has the most money, has the most
- 40:14Speaker 2: makes the rules.
- 40:15Speaker 7: Yeah, Sadly, if Texas Tech is playing a Top ten
- 40:18Speaker 7: game next year, I'm probably going to watch it. In
- 40:20Speaker 7: the of course is a quarterback and I'm just either way,
- 40:24Speaker 7: I'll probably watched the game.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Absolutely. Yeah.
- 40:26Speaker 8: I mean we complain about the nil and that there's
- 40:29Speaker 8: all time records and people watching COEFA and.
- 40:31Speaker 2: Watching Yeah, which takes me back to the commissioners of
- 40:35Speaker 2: the two leagues and controlled college sports. Okay, one of
- 40:40Speaker 2: them had their quote spring meetings ten days ago and
- 40:45Speaker 2: there was there was nothing, I mean, there was nothing
- 40:48Speaker 2: came out of that. It's like, well, we're we're just
- 40:51Speaker 2: going to see where this twelve team playoff goes and
- 40:53Speaker 2: that's fine. I'm good with that. Don't get me wrong.
- 40:56Speaker 2: I don't think we should be changing after one year
- 40:58Speaker 2: or two years. We don't have enough out of points.
- 41:01Speaker 2: But but that's fine. But but they don't want structure.
- 41:05Speaker 2: They're already uh uh Sankie's already come out against this
- 41:10Speaker 2: congressional thing. And again, let me just say again, Congress
- 41:14Speaker 2: is not the answer. It'll never be the answer. I
- 41:16Speaker 2: understand that. But they were trying. Okay, they they had
- 41:21Speaker 2: within this bill were four or five things everyone who
- 41:25Speaker 2: follows college sports should be able to agree upon, right everyone.
- 41:31Speaker 2: There shouldn't be anything controversial about a kid only getting
- 41:34Speaker 2: five years and only being able to transfer one time
- 41:38Speaker 2: unless his coach leaves. That should not be controversial, right right.
- 41:43Speaker 2: You shouldn't be fighting. You should be the first steps
- 41:45Speaker 2: towards that should be first steps. It's like something if
- 41:48Speaker 2: you have something else, by all means, let's hear their opinion.
- 41:52Speaker 2: Not just oh no, we're not for this.
- 41:53Speaker 8: But in order to change the rules, you're gonna have
- 41:56Speaker 8: to have collective bargaining in college athletics, which.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Right now, rusty, I never thought i'd say, I'm for it,
- 42:03Speaker 2: but in order to change and get some kind of structure.
- 42:07Speaker 2: I am for I am, I'm for it. Let's do
- 42:09Speaker 2: it because you have zero.
- 42:11Speaker 8: It's so much different than even like okay, said the
- 42:15Speaker 8: argument of Pete Rose, Well, baseball ahead, collective bargain.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Yes, so Pete Rose was banned from the Hall of Fame,
- 42:23Speaker 2: and he couldn't go to court, couldn't go to court
- 42:25Speaker 2: to overturn that. Sicky belongs in the Hall of Fame.
- 42:28Speaker 2: But right, but he couldn't go to court to overturn
- 42:30Speaker 2: that decision.
- 42:31Speaker 8: So this you have to have that collective bargaining to
- 42:34Speaker 8: get the rules in place so that you don't go
- 42:37Speaker 8: to every little local courtroom to decide.
- 42:40Speaker 2: All right, I gotta calm down. We're gonna, we're gonna,
- 42:43Speaker 2: We're gonna take a break. I will say again, I
- 42:47Speaker 2: am willing to be the czar of college sports. It's
- 42:51Speaker 2: gonna cost some money, but but I will be a
- 42:55Speaker 2: benevolent dictator. The Rangers Report. It's brought to you by

- 46:19Speaker 2: I mean, you can't. You can't turn on the TV,
- 46:22Speaker 2: you can't turn on your phone without being asked to
- 46:25Speaker 2: bet on something. And it's a huge issue. It's it's guys.
- 46:30Speaker 2: This is a tip of the Iceberg. Brendon Sorsby was
- 46:33Speaker 2: just stupid. He got caught because he was so prolific
- 46:36Speaker 2: and stupid and sick and has a problem. Right, that's
- 46:40Speaker 2: when you get caught is when you don't care anymore.
- 46:43Speaker 2: You have such a problem. But it is a huge
- 46:47Speaker 2: problem among the college students period. Okay, and you know
- 46:52Speaker 2: there are hundreds upon hundreds of athletes betting as we speak.
- 46:59Speaker 8: If you don't understand and addiction, leave your phone at
- 47:01Speaker 8: home for a couple of days.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Okay, No, you're right, because you're right. You were like
- 47:08Speaker 2: what I am too? Yeah, And I'm the same way,
- 47:11Speaker 2: like I have to if I if I forget, I
- 47:13Speaker 2: have to go home and get it. How could I work?
- 47:15Speaker 8: I serve in that prison ministry. I have to leave
- 47:17Speaker 8: that phone in the vehicle for ten hours.
- 47:21Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 47:21Speaker 2: And it's like what am I going to miss? I'm
- 47:23Speaker 2: going to miss a text message? Yeah, well what's the score? Yeah?
- 47:27Speaker 2: What's the score? Yeah? Or I know who did I miss? What?
- 47:30Speaker 2: It's it's a probably the first thing I do when
- 47:33Speaker 2: I get that vehicle.
- 47:34Speaker 8: It's like, give me my phone.
- 47:35Speaker 7: Yeah, twenty minutes ago, order my cell phone is, I'll
- 47:39Speaker 7: find it.
- 47:40Speaker 2: We'll find it, all right. So you were talking about
- 47:43Speaker 2: the Texas Sports Hall of Fame cease because we the
- 47:48Speaker 2: the nominees came out the.
- 47:50Speaker 7: Twenty twelve twenty man remember main ballot in twelve old timer's.
- 47:56Speaker 2: And you're you're on the committee and have been for
- 47:59Speaker 2: a long time. Uh. The National Football Foundation put out
- 48:03Speaker 2: its College Football Hall of Fame. I didn't bring up
- 48:07Speaker 2: last week, same time. I didn't bring all those names in.
- 48:10Speaker 7: Ray up there.
- 48:11Speaker 2: Ray Mickens is on there. Jackie, Jackie Cheryl, by the way,
- 48:16Speaker 2: I think took advantage of the rule that they did
- 48:20Speaker 2: right that they changed the rule from six hundred in
- 48:26Speaker 2: order to get coach Leech on the ballot, which thank
- 48:29Speaker 2: you very much for doing that, and coach coach Cheryl
- 48:34Speaker 2: also was because of that.
- 48:36Speaker 9: Was he not?
- 48:37Speaker 2: Did I get that wrong?
- 48:38Speaker 7: Yeah? Those two and uh even less Miles. I mean
- 48:42Speaker 7: there's other people right right. They dropped that. Dennis, Yes,
- 48:45Speaker 7: Dennis f that's the college I understandall.
- 48:49Speaker 2: I get that.
- 48:49Speaker 7: That's huge news. And hopefully Leech you'll get in, Hopefully
- 48:52Speaker 7: Jackie will get in. Ray Mickens is definitely deserving.
- 48:55Speaker 2: Me should have been in years. There's like sixty nine
- 48:58Speaker 2: on I know, good luck, I know, I know. And
- 49:02Speaker 2: that's that's the problem with all these Halls of Fame.
- 49:05Speaker 2: About you know that I've talked about, that I've been
- 49:07Speaker 2: involved with. Is I like to go back and get
- 49:10Speaker 2: some of the guys that have been forgotten right because
- 49:13Speaker 2: everything seems to be within the last five to ten years,
- 49:16Speaker 2: because that's our memory, right is we You know you
- 49:20Speaker 2: new guys come every year, right, Well, when new guys
- 49:22Speaker 2: come every year, guys like Ray Mickens get forgotten about,
- 49:25Speaker 2: right Right.
- 49:26Speaker 7: You don't realize how I mean, I hate to say this,
- 49:28Speaker 7: I didn't realize how long it's ben since Ray Mickens
- 49:31Speaker 7: played Crazy and I go, Wow, it's like his first
- 49:34Speaker 7: time on the ballot.
- 49:35Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 49:36Speaker 7: Wow.
- 49:36Speaker 8: Okay, so I thought Russell Carter, Russell Carter. I mean,
- 49:41Speaker 8: I'm amazed.
- 49:43Speaker 2: Yeah, me too, Aaron Glinsen, I know, it's like, how
- 49:49Speaker 2: is he not? Texas high School Football All time Top

- 50:07Speaker 2: an impact, high school just high school Texas High School
- 50:12Speaker 2: Who comes to mind?
- 50:14Speaker 7: Earl Campbell?
- 50:15Speaker 2: Earl Campbell is fourth, Eric Dickerson is sixth. Deptmar Ty
- 50:24Speaker 2: Deptmer did not make the top ten. Wow just based
- 50:29Speaker 2: on high school right high school Squero running back with
- 50:33Speaker 2: the Baylor. Yeah, we just say he's on the top
- 50:37Speaker 2: ten running backs, but he's not on the top ten
- 50:39Speaker 2: to high school players.
- 50:42Speaker 8: Oh, the kid who went to Texas, the running back
- 50:46Speaker 8: Jonathan Gray.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Yes, he is not on the top ten. He's on
- 50:49Speaker 2: the top ten running back list. He's not on the
- 50:51Speaker 2: top ten all time high school players.
- 50:53Speaker 7: And who's this list?
- 50:55Speaker 2: Texas high school football? Sexas high school football? Yep, let
- 50:59Speaker 2: me give you a list. Can I Number ten is
- 51:02Speaker 2: Vince Young. Number nine Grayson Rigdon from Strong Benjamin and Columbus.
- 51:09Speaker 2: I guess it was a running back now. Matthew Stafford
- 51:14Speaker 2: at Highland Park is a Kate Kate club. Nick Westlake
- 51:19Speaker 2: is seven, and again, part of what they're doing is titles, stats,
- 51:25Speaker 2: awards as well as impact. Okay Dickerson is sixth, Cedric Benson.
- 51:31Speaker 7: Is fit.
- 51:33Speaker 2: Earl is fourth. Oh, I beg your pardon. Jonathan Gray
- 51:37Speaker 2: was third. I wasn't looking high enough up. He won
- 51:40Speaker 2: a lot of state championships and the Sugarland Express. Ken
- 51:44Speaker 2: Hall is number two. Number one. Skyler Murray, Kyler Murray
- 51:51Speaker 2: really number one? Didn't he win four or three in
- 51:55Speaker 2: a row? Did he win for state championship? He won
- 51:58Speaker 2: three of that he went week right sophomore at all right, interesting, Yeah,
- 52:06Speaker 2: who else? Who else comes from comes to mind.
- 52:09Speaker 7: Right, Childress. That's a good that's a.
- 52:11Speaker 8: Good way the dominant and of course he should have thought.
- 52:13Speaker 7: Of Kenneth Hall being a naggie, you know.
- 52:16Speaker 2: Yeah, all of these most I think everyone just name
- 52:20Speaker 2: now and and some in some cases Lewis went a
- 52:25Speaker 2: championship at Carter.
- 52:27Speaker 7: I don't know. I don't know that.
- 52:28Speaker 2: I don't know Ray Lewis, Lewis, Dared Lewis. Yeah, yeah,
- 52:34Speaker 2: I don't know. That's that's that's a good.
- 52:35Speaker 7: It's an interesting list, and I get it.
- 52:38Speaker 2: They looked like all offensive players to me.
- 52:40Speaker 7: Yeah, and we live in Kenneth Hall. Even he was
- 52:43Speaker 7: one of the first look at his offenses numbers and
- 52:46Speaker 7: everybody always points to kids. Just broke him Class two
- 52:50Speaker 7: a kid, Yes, he just broke his record, Kenneth Hall.
- 52:53Speaker 7: Everything's up there.
- 52:54Speaker 2: And he was on the running back list by the way,
- 52:56Speaker 2: that kid was like eighth or ninth on the.
- 52:58Speaker 7: Run in It's Summer listens.
- 53:01Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, well exactly.
- 53:03Speaker 7: Matthew Stafford, Holland Park.
- 53:05Speaker 8: You know one of the you know, it's James I
- 53:09Speaker 8: would James.
- 53:11Speaker 2: So I have said this so many times, is so
- 53:15Speaker 2: many times these lists are projections of what these guys
- 53:19Speaker 2: have become, not what they were at the time.
- 53:22Speaker 12: Right.
- 53:23Speaker 2: I say that for college list. If guys you know,
- 53:26Speaker 2: grew up in the in the like Tom Brady, what
- 53:30Speaker 2: was he third team in Michigan? Right? Yeah, I mean
- 53:32Speaker 2: he doesn't belong in the college Football Hall of Fame.
- 53:34Speaker 7: Probably make it right, he'll live without it.
- 53:37Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll be Okay, he's not going to better. I
- 53:40Speaker 2: don't think he's in, but he should think he should
- 53:42Speaker 2: not be. And that's my point. We project how they
- 53:45Speaker 2: even high school guys, well, they went on to you know,
- 53:49Speaker 2: Robert Straight is the guy Robert Straight? Yeah, and he
- 53:54Speaker 2: had okay career, but it was But there was another
- 53:57Speaker 2: battler writing back the same way. Besides Claira, there was
- 54:00Speaker 2: one more that was on that list. You can't think
- 54:02Speaker 2: I can't either.
- 54:03Speaker 7: But you talk about the days, and I remember, because
- 54:06Speaker 7: I am in a Texas Sports Hall of Fame deal.
- 54:08Speaker 7: I remember a couple I think it was just one
- 54:09Speaker 7: year ago or whatever. One of the people go, hey,
- 54:12Speaker 7: I want to nominate Caitlyn Clark because she stopped and
- 54:14Speaker 7: got gas when she was in down. Okay, I mean
- 54:17Speaker 7: you know, yeah, you talk about I know everybody wants
- 54:19Speaker 7: to jump.
- 54:20Speaker 2: You have a hard job, man, I'm telling them because
- 54:24Speaker 2: I get it. But like I said, you have a
- 54:26Speaker 2: hard That is a hard job. But I've I've tried
- 54:30Speaker 2: to vote on those Halls of Fames at All Time
- 54:32Speaker 2: lists before, and I used to vote on the College
- 54:34Speaker 2: Football Hall of Fame and I let my membership lap.
- 54:36Speaker 2: So I haven't done it in a while.
- 54:38Speaker 7: But here's what you bring that up on, like Russy,
- 54:40Speaker 7: you know, brings up I forget about Robert Straight. You
- 54:42Speaker 7: like lists like that because it tests your memory because
- 54:45Speaker 7: we know who we don't.
- 54:47Speaker 2: I'm very tested because it's horrible now. It used to
- 54:49Speaker 2: be really good. Cease. I hope you have a great summer.
- 54:53Speaker 2: I too, hope. So I hope you're sitting here a
- 54:56Speaker 2: couple of days in my place at some time between
- 54:59Speaker 2: now in August. I appreciate it, Rusty. I will see
- 55:03Speaker 2: you next week because I have saved the all time
- 55:07Speaker 2: Rangers lineup for us next week. Oh, I've played that game.
- 55:11Speaker 2: I know you have lost three to Roast, so don't
- 55:17Speaker 2: be so oh I'm played the Dodgers never buy. Hey,
