Transcript
- 0:03Hey guys, this is the Daily Ripples, and today is Saturday, October 24th, faith in that faith that keeps building, the stone.
- 0:13Faith grows stronger when it is lived out through faithful action.
- 0:17Ripple and practical today will not be discouraged by mistakes or setbacks.
- 0:22God often teaches his greatest lessons through ordinary experiences, including my failures.
- 0:28Every faithful step, because another opportunity to learn, grow, and... Ripple 2 spirituals.
- 0:35As I follow Christ's example of faithful obedience, the Holy Spirit uses my successes and my failures to shape my character.
- 0:44The father is never finished with me.
- 0:46Patiently building a life of faith, one lesson, one act of obedience and one day at a time.
- 0:55And like, I come into this place where I think about that and, Pastor Michael always makes fun of me.
- 1:03I better stop saying, come into the, this place because I was, he's starting to catch on to how I talk. Uh, But uh, I was thinking about what, you know, because, I mean, just to say that I could live a life.
- 1:19of spiritual obedience, you know, well, why didn't I do that before?
- 1:24Or have I been doing that?
- 1:27And I would agree that I have not.
- 1:29Um, Over here on uh, Page 62 in the big book, it says,
- 1:37Many of us had more than philosophical convictions go more, but we could not live up to though, even though we'd like to.
- 1:45So even though I'd like to.
- 1:47Live up to that.
- 1:48I couldn't.
- 1:49And my life has shown that.
- 1:52Um, and that's what's really important about, um, I believe in page 62, how it talks about the bottom of that, right?
- 2:02You know, it's like, you know, I'm not living the ba- my life on the basis of self anymore.
- 2:07Um, it goes on to say, you know, he is a father, we're his children.
- 2:12Most good ideas are simple in this concept was the keystone.
- 2:16So the keystone of the new and triumphant arc.
- 2:19So we're morals on one side of philosophical convictions and come in together, and the keystones of the very top of this, just like the St. Louis pyramid, and, um,
- 2:31Man, I was, you know, thinking about, like, you know, I believe, like, living, or I believe, I know, for me at least, you know, living a life of no spiritual obedience is, uh, The spiritual principles, your morals.
- 2:49It was, it was rough on me.
- 2:50Um, I was sober for some time before, and I, uh, proceeds to go, I went, I went out drinking for about 4.5 years, and then, When I came back in, you know, I, I, I could see all these things, and it's cool.
- 3:08My old sponsor used to say, you know, you can't see until you can see, and I guess that's, you know.
- 3:13They remain treating that, but um...
- 3:16Yeah, when I was in that time, you know, I felt like I had some, uh, a decent amount of sobriety as well, and in that time I wasn't living right, though.
- 3:29And um,
- 3:31So like, when I, when I say that, like, you know, I mean, I was, you know, sleeping with all these different women's and lying and cheating, and living a life based on the basis to sell, me.
- 3:46And, um, name, it felt like a chick, like, I lived back at that time, and it felt like a chicken with his, I felt like a chicken with his head cut off, just running around, aimlessly, you know, it's just, you know, and it's miserable, and it's a lot, and it's, uh, You know, I see that today in some people, and, you know, it sucks because, like, or you, but you can see, right?
- 4:13But I, uh,
- 4:16I like how it says in here.
- 4:18God often teaches his greatest lessons through ordinary experiences, including my failures. Every faithful step becomes another opportunity, but it doesn't have to be an opportunity.
- 4:31Uh, you know, I can keep on doing this, right?
- 4:35I think page 25 of the big book is a great example of that.
- 4:39It's, you know, it says, we were in a position where life was becoming impossible.
- 4:43If we pass into the region, which where there is no return through human aid, we have but 2 alternatives.
- 4:52One was to go to the bitter end.
- 4:54Blotting out the consciousness of our intolerable situation as best we could and the other was to expect, accept spiritual help.
- 5:01And I come into this crossroad and I don't know how many different ways in this book.
- 5:05spiritual life or not, what was my choice to be?
- 5:10So today, you know, I uh,
- 5:14I don't know, you know, I don't want to live on a non-spiritual bias today.
- 5:21I don't want to go sleep around on my significant other.
- 5:27I don't want to lie to her.
- 5:29I don't want to lie to other people.
- 5:31I would rather try to live and be a good person a day.
- 5:36You know, I mean, I feel I was talking to my sponsored the other day and I said, manly.
- 5:43I want to do as much as I can to be the best person to God, to be of use.
- 5:52Like, I can't remember the right words, but like pretty much to be the most useful God and like, am I doing enough?
- 5:58Like, is this, like, and he was like, well, you could only do what you can do and like, you know, but like the thing is, is there any other information that I miss it?
- 6:07Because, like, I mean, I'm pretty happy.
- 6:09Um, I would rather, I would like to be more used to more people in some capacity.
- 6:16Uh, I don't know what that looks like.
- 6:18I'm just here.
- 6:19Enjoying the ride that God's given me, but, um, you know, uh, but, you know, I think it's, well, this is a great example, right?
- 6:29On page 25, and I guess like, you know, there's a, but I've never,
- 6:34I mean, I've looked at it like this before, but, You know, maybe I need to add, like, because it tells me the results of a spiritual experience on page 25 in the, the 2nd paragraph.
- 6:47It says the great fact is just this and nothing less that we've had a deep and effective spiritual experiences, which have revolutionized our whole attitude towards God, towards life, towards our fellows and towards God's universe.
- 7:00And I think that's you come into a position that has that happen in my life.
- 7:04That's happened to mine.
- 7:06But like, um, Not talking to me, like I'm talking, like, you know, is, has it happened in your life?
- 7:14And if it has, and like, he goes on to said, the central fact of our lives today is the absolute certainty that our creator is in it and entered into our hearts and our lives in a way, which is indeed miraculous, and has your creator, and it entered into your hearts.
- 7:31And I don't think it got enters into my heart.
- 7:35That's kind of weird wording, but I'll tell you, God's always been there. In my heart.
- 7:39God's always taking care of me, but it's my place today to be awake to see that.
- 7:43Maybe I don't even need to be awake because it's already there.
- 7:46But it's pretty cool when I'm watching.
- 7:48It's pretty cool when God's working through my life and working through others and getting to see them do cool things, but It also says in the 12 and 12.
- 7:59And, you know, I believe this too, on page 130, it says the a member has to conform to spiritual principles of recovery.
- 8:08And, um, You know, man, there's a lot of people that come in these rooms that are like, you know, I'm not good.
- 8:17I'm being told what's due and like, well, you know, that's your problem.
- 8:20Your whole life's been that problem, but I got into a place for me where I didn't have any more moves to make, but conformed to spiritual principles, right?
- 8:31So, And then it says, uh, His life actually depends upon obedience to spiritual principles.
- 8:40If he deviates too far, the penalty is sure and swift, he sickens and nies.
- 8:45At 1st he goes along because he must, but later discovers a way of life that he really wants to live.
- 8:51And like, So like I go at 1st because I'm hopeless, so I feel like the whole world's just breaking down inside of me, and now I go wrong because, you know, man, I love this life.
- 9:05I love the opportunity to be of service to God's kids and to be able to be of service to my family, at my workplace, and just to love everybody that I come in contact with, to not be in, a, uh,
- 9:19Just not to be a bad person to people, to care about other people.
- 9:24That's not a, uh,
- 9:26That's not something that's normal in my life or it is today, but it, you know, it wasn't before and, you know, I wanted to get whatever I could get out of you.
- 9:36And I'd lie to be whoever I needed to be to do that.
- 9:40And so I was always lying.
- 9:42I was always trying to play this play this person that I really wasn't.
- 9:46And so, I like how the daily ripples, it says, Faith grows stronger when it has lived out through faithful action.
- 9:57But like, I think, you know, to the other side of that, right?
- 10:01Like, your faith will still grow.
- 10:03Then, you know, because it does say, you know, I mean, in my book, the big book of Alcoholics Anonymous and it says faith without works is dead.
- 10:11Well, it says that in making it right with God's kids who are helping others.
- 10:16It says that in 3 places.
- 10:19And well, some others, but those words that come out with James, saying it says in the 3 places.
- 10:26And so faith without works is dead.
- 10:30I'm like, well,
- 10:31What is the warp?
- 10:34And so it says in Bill's story, which is really cool.
- 10:37See, I was really wondering what to do.
- 10:39I would just say, uh, do this.
- 10:43Because it says starting at the bottom of page 14 for if the alcohol failed to perfect in the largest spiritual life through work and self-sacrifice for others, he could not survive the certain trials on most spots ahead.
- 10:55So I'm not going to survive the trials and low spots head if I don't do work and self-sacrifice for others.
- 11:01That's what it says.
- 11:03If he did not work, he would truly drink again and if he drank, he would truly die.
- 11:07And faith would be dead indeed with us.
- 11:10It is just like that.
- 11:11Man, that is how it is.
- 11:15Uh, all the BS that you hear where people are saying, you know, we'll love you until you can love yourself now.
- 11:24That's not what this program about, and this isn't a selfish program.
- 11:28This program is an unselfish program for selfish people like me.
- 11:34And you know, yeah, come into, and that's in, that's just an interesting within itself.
- 11:39Like, I got to come to the complete bottom of my life. To say, hey, man, I think I just want to help people and like, that's the way.
- 11:45People come up with these ideas all on their own without all the things that came into my life to make this possible.
- 11:53So, You know, so that's the, that's the whole realm of this.
- 11:58And if you don't want to do that.
- 12:00Like, I think that goes back into have you had a spiritual experience or not?
- 12:05Have you had a spiritual awakening?
- 12:07Or do you even need work?
- 12:09You know, that's the, I guess that's the question to be, is like, if you don't need a spiritual life and you can continue on bodying out the consciousness of your intolerable situation, the best we as best you could, then what's the need to accept spiritual principles anyways, you don't have to.
- 12:24You're probably not an alcoholic then, and that's cool too.
- 12:27But you're probably just wasting your time going into these meetings and, you know, where you could be free somewhere else.
- 12:33And then I think about like, you know, well, if that's the case.
- 12:38Then you wouldn't have to go share your rubbish.
- 12:42I think rubbish is an okay, we're rubbish with the person that really is an alcoholic because they really need these spiritual principles and have to live a spiritual life or and they're going to die.
- 12:52So maybe you're just hurting someone else, but maybe.
- 12:55I don't know, you know, I'm pretty, uh,
- 13:00I pretty passionate about that.
- 13:02And, um, you know, that's why it says, you know, find out for yourself if you're an alcoholic.
- 13:07You're an alcoholic, it doesn't, just because you got two, 3D UIs doesn't make you an alcoholic.
- 13:14It might make you not that smart.
- 13:16But you don't have to be an alcoholic to have a DUI.
- 13:19My mom could get a DUI, so some of her friends could get a DUI, I was like, I don't think they're alcohol.
- 13:25Um.
- 13:27But, you know, for me, where the, where that comes in is when I take a drink, Does the phenomenonal craving happen or not?
- 13:37It's a simple thing.
- 13:38For me, it does.
- 13:40Um, for you, it might not, but,
- 13:43You know, it's, it's sad to see that we live at a place where people just throw around words and they go, you know, this is life and death for me.
- 13:54Um, I apologize if I got a little, uh, stern on this, but you know, that this is important and, um, for me to live this life.
- 14:06I got to do these things and, you know, I, uh, maybe some other people don't have to.
- 14:12It was, I'm in this with a prayer.
- 14:14Father God, help me trust you through every lesson, you place before me.
- 14:19Through your Holy Spirit, keep building my faith, through daily obedience.
- 14:24Shape me through the example of Jesus.
- 14:27Amen.
