George W. Bush’s DOJ Drawn Into Epstein Sweetheart Deal Fallout (6/8/26) · The Epstein Chronicles

Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome to another episode of the
• 0:03
Epstein Chronicles. One of the most common misconceptions when discussing
• 0:08
Jeffrey Epstein's sweetheart deal is to place the blame on
• 0:12
Alex Acosta, and not because he's blameless in the greater
• 0:16
sense of the word, but when we're discussing the deal
• 0:19
that Jeffrey Epstein received. I've always said that there's no
• 0:22
way that it was Acosta who made that decision, and
• 0:25
I told you all the way back then that there
• 0:27
is zero chance. But the way it was reported originally
• 0:31
by Julie K. Brown was that it was Acosta who
• 0:35
made that decision basically on his own. And I remember
• 0:38
when I pointed out that a guy like Acosta doesn't
• 0:40
have that sort of ability being a mid level bureaucrat.
• 0:44
I was met with a lot of resistance, a lot
• 0:46
of people saying that Julie K. Brown already reported that
• 0:49
it was Acosta that was responsible for everything. Well, that
• 0:53
is until recently, because now Julie K. Brown has swung
• 0:58
her attention to where it belongs the Bush administration, because
• 1:02
it was Mukayzy and Philippe who gave the okay on
• 1:05
this deal and I think that's why the emails between
• 1:08
Acosta and Maine Justice went missing. Nobody else finds that
• 1:13
highly suspect that the only emails that go missing are
• 1:16
the Acosta emails. Right in the middle of this negotiation
• 1:20
that ends up turning into this sweetheart deal for Jeffrey Epstein.
• 1:25
Nobody has any questions about that. Nobody wants to know
• 1:28
what Philippe has to say or Mukayzy. Nobody wants to
• 1:32
bring them in and sit them for a deposition. That
• 1:35
shit should have been done a long time ago. And
• 1:38
now that people are paying attention and taking a look
• 1:40
at the Bush administration like they should have done years ago,
• 1:44
I feel like John McLain, Welcome to the party, pal.
• 1:48
Today's article was published by The Daily Beast and the
• 1:51
author is Catherine Boris. A new report as implicated President
• 1:56
George W. Bush Department of Justice in the controversial case
• 2:00
invicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. Now there's nothing new about it.
• 2:05
For all of you who have been listening, you already know.
• 2:08
I've told you time and time again that Alex Acosta
• 2:11
was the fall guy. He was the middle man. It's
• 2:15
like going to your local Paco Bell and having the
• 2:19
district manager speak for the whole company. It's never gonna happen.
• 2:24
Now he can speak for the property, right, you know,
• 2:26
whatever he might manage. But do you think he's speaking
• 2:29
for the shareholders. And that's what you got to look
• 2:32
at the DOJ brass As. They're the shareholders, right, They're
• 2:35
the ones that are holding the bag. They're the ones
• 2:38
that are gonna make the final decision, and they're the
• 2:40
ones that are going to sign off on a deal
• 2:43
for somebody like Jeffrey Epstein. And I remember getting a
• 2:47
lot of pushback when I brought that up. Well, how
• 2:51
about now, is it acceptable? Is it real? Because Julie K.
• 2:55
Brown is telling you. The report published in The Miami
• 3:00
by Pulitzer Prize winning journalist Julie K. Brown, whose reporting
• 3:04
helped lead de Ebstein's arrest in twenty nineteen, focuses on
• 3:08
former Palm Beach Police Chief Michael Ryder, who opened the
• 3:11
first criminal probe into Epstein's conduct in the mid two thousands.
• 3:15
And Michael Ryder has always said the same thing, that
• 3:19
whatever happened came from on high and that a decision
• 3:23
like this isn't going to be made by a guy
• 3:25
like Acosta. It features previously un reported details. Well, unless
• 3:32
you haven't listened to this podcast, because we've definitely explored this,
• 3:36
including the fact that then Miami US attorney Alex Acosta
• 3:40
started negotiating a secret plea deal with Epstein in two
• 3:43
thousand and seven, after the financier pedophile was arrested for
• 3:47
felony solicitation the year before, after writer had gathered evidence
• 3:52
and interviewed two dozen tearful girls and their parents. He
• 3:56
was then stonewalled by state prosecutors and attacked in the
• 3:59
media before being ostracized by federal prosecutors who took over
• 4:04
the case. And look, I'm happy that this is being
• 4:06
reported finally, but my question is what took so long.
• 4:09
We're not talking about some ancient mystery here, and it
• 4:12
really confused me that more people weren't hip to the
• 4:15
fact that a guy like Acosta can't make a deal
• 4:17
like that. Do you think that insert local district attorney
• 4:22
for the Southern District of Florida speaks for the whole
• 4:25
entire Justice Department? Is that really what you believe? Tell
• 4:28
me you don't know anything about the bureaucracy without telling me.
• 4:31
Reacting to concerns raised by the parents of some of
• 4:34
Epstein's victims. Writer requested a meeting with Acosta, who served
• 4:37
as President Donald Trump's labor secretary during his first term.
• 4:42
And look, when I tell you, it goes deeper than Trump.
• 4:44
This is what I mean. We have to get to
• 4:47
the bottom of it, right who gave the OKA, who
• 4:50
said that the NPA was acceptable, and then we work
• 4:54
from there because that's when the cover up started. Now
• 4:58
does that mean we ignore the cover up going on
• 5:00
right now? Of course not. But you have to build
• 5:04
a very strong case in order to go after people
• 5:07
like this. These are very powerful people, I mean, the
• 5:10
President of the United States. You're not going to get
• 5:13
them with some kind of you know, accusation with no
• 5:16
evidence backing it up. In fact, what you're gonna do
• 5:19
is make it harder. And I know people don't want
• 5:21
to hear that. What would be best for me and
• 5:24
engagement would to be an all out assault every single
• 5:28
day on Donald Trump. But that's not the point of
• 5:31
the podcast, that's not the point of the story. That's
• 5:33
not going to advance justice because what it does is
• 5:36
it swings the spotlight off of shit like this. So
• 5:41
for me, it's about everything. It's not just about what's
• 5:44
going on now, it's about how we got here. And
• 5:48
please don't mistake that for me saying that people shouldn't
• 5:51
be held accountable now they should be. And I think
• 5:55
that this ongoing cover up is going to leave a
• 5:57
paper trail, and the next government they should have a
• 6:01
teed up for him. We'll see how it goes. Recalling
• 6:05
the meeting in his conversation with Brown, writer says that
• 6:08
he told Acosta, I'm here to ask you to live
• 6:10
up to the principles that you espoused when you were
• 6:13
sworn in. Yeah, good luck. Acosta is a clown, an
• 6:16
absolute coward, and he has a slinky for a spine.
• 6:20
I'm certainly not absolving him. But he wasn't the one
• 6:23
who made the decision. Oh, he went along with it,
• 6:26
but he didn't make that decision. Who has the authority
• 6:30
to make the decision of whether or not the federally
• 6:32
prosecute Epstein. We turned it over to you. We did
• 6:35
most of the work, and the assistant US attorney told
• 6:38
us she usually gets ten years for each count, and
• 6:41
we had maybe one hundred counts and probably twenty four
• 6:44
or so cooperating victims. So whose authority is it? He added,
• 6:49
And folks, this is a big deal. And if you're
• 6:54
wondering why the United States government's trying to cover it up,
• 6:57
here you go. Do you know the kind of embarrassed
• 7:00
that's going to come along with this when it's outed?
• 7:03
And that's why they're sending you on wild goose chases
• 7:06
down rabbit holes looking for shit that they can use
• 7:09
as a defense. Oh well, it's all a hoax. It's
• 7:13
all about this one. It's all about that one. No,
• 7:15
it's all about all of you, every last one of
• 7:19
you scumbags that help Jeffrey Epstein along the way. It's
• 7:22
about all of you. Oh. According to writer, Acosta did
• 7:25
not respond, prompting the police chief to express concern that
• 7:28
Epstein's legal team was manipulating Acosta's office. We've been receiving
• 7:33
some guidance from Maine Justice and Epstein's defense attorneys have
• 7:37
done a very effective job installing the case a costa applied. Now,
• 7:42
who has told you that for years? I mean not
• 7:45
for nothing. Very few people are talking about this part
• 7:49
of the case, very few people, because it was all
• 7:53
settled previously, right by Julie K. Brown's reporting until it wasn't.
• 7:58
And look, that's not a knock on Julie K. Brown.
• 8:00
This is an expansive story. She's done incredible work, and
• 8:04
Acosta certainly did play a part. But I don't think
• 8:09
Julie was willing to jump down that rabbit hole before
• 8:11
she had the actual documentation in her hands. Me personally,
• 8:16
I had seen some shit and heard some shit from
• 8:18
some people that convinced me. And when you start putting
• 8:21
the pieces together and you start doing the equations, well
• 8:25
two plus two that shit equals four, and here we are.
• 8:29
The main Justice refers to the Department of Justice headquarters
• 8:33
in Washington, DC, which at the time during Bush's presidency,
• 8:36
was being overseen by Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez. Incorrect. The
• 8:41
deal was signed when Mukhesy was the bostil and it
• 8:45
was Mark Felippe, who was the Deputy Attorney General at
• 8:49
the time, who processed the whole thing. Think of him
• 8:51
basically as Todd Blanche. He was Todd Blanche, but for
• 8:55
the NPA, that's what happened, That's how it went down.
• 8:58
It's not that confusing. The Daily Beast has contacted the
• 9:02
Department of Justice and George W. Bush's office for comment.
• 9:06
Let me give you guys a little tip. Why don't
• 9:08
you guys contact Mark Felip You're welcome. Epstein ultimately only
• 9:13
pleaded to one count a solicitation, despite law enforcement agencies
• 9:17
having knowledge of as many as forty potential victims. He
• 9:20
would not be indicted on charges of sex trafficking miners
• 9:24
until twenty nineteen. Epstein's name had previously been raised by
• 9:28
the Trump transition team when Acosta was being interviewed for
• 9:31
the role of Labor's secretary, with Acosta reportedly being asked,
• 9:36
is the Epstein case going to cause a problem for
• 9:38
confirmation hearings. I was told Epstein belong to intelligence and
• 9:42
to leave it alone. Acosta told the Trump transition team
• 9:46
he would later be appointed as Trump's Labor secretary and
• 9:49
serve in his cabinet for two years. Well, Acosta says,
• 9:52
that's not true. He didn't say it. Now, if you
• 9:55
want to believe Acosta, that is certainly up to you.
• 9:58
Me personally, I do not believe them. He's a coward,
• 10:01
a liar, and somebody who has no morals. Imagine somebody
• 10:05
telling you from Main Justice that you're going to cover
• 10:09
up for Jeffrey Epstein. Yo, you know how quick Ey'd
• 10:12
be fired, not only fired, but talking shit the whole
• 10:17
way out. Well, you're not going to get your pension. Cool,
• 10:19
keep it. I'll go get a job in the private
• 10:22
sector and I'll make sure that I hammer the DOJ
• 10:25
every time we go to trial. That's what I would
• 10:28
have said if I was a lawyer, But for people
• 10:30
like a Costa, forget it. You'd have to have some
• 10:33
courage to do that. And we know that that's in
• 10:35
short supply. Speaking of Brown, Writer said that he considers
• 10:39
the fact that Epstein's behavior one unchallenged by so many
• 10:42
people for years, many of whom he cultivated close friendships
• 10:46
with in order to ensure exactly that, to be the
• 10:49
worst failure of the criminal justice system in recent years.
• 10:53
BINGO one hundred percent. And when you're being run by
• 10:57
some agency insert agency here, certainly helps. Some reforms have
• 11:03
been made, and Epstein and Maxwell cases of shed light
• 11:06
on many of the others that are still needed, Writer said,
• 11:10
but the true measure of success will be whether the
• 11:12
system learns from its failures and acts on those lessons. Well,
• 11:16
not going so well, is it? So? Look, folks, I've
• 11:20
told you this for years, and now that Julie K.
• 11:22
Brown's reporting it, maybe people will start listening. Alex Acosta
• 11:27
was never the architect. Alex Acosta was the middleman. And
• 11:31
when it comes to the NPA, if you're looking to
• 11:34
blame anybody, blame the Justice Department. All right, folks, that's
• 11:38
going to do it for this one. All of the
• 11:40
information that goes with this episode can be found in
