- 0:01Well, I'm as everyone and thanks for having us where I'm from Gallifire.
- 0:09I'm keV also from Guarifire, Brisbane band been going about five years now,
- 0:14currently about to join for us on their tour and wrapping up our first album
- 0:18cycle Beautiful Boys. Thanks for joining us tonight. It's been a while.
- 0:23Yeah, Chris really going to join your having Yeah, mate, it's been
- 0:28long over you. I've actually got fi I've actually got a fair bit going
- 0:35on at the moment. So we're going to start off with Rock Beats Depression,
- 0:38which will be held at the Mansfield Tavern on September sixteen. Like,
- 0:41just by virtue of the name alone, it's a great gig for a great
- 0:45cause, isn't it. Yeah. We've done it every year since is it.
- 0:50I don't know, it's just since it started, but since very early
- 0:52on and definitely since started. Yeah, and it's you know, we love
- 0:58Katie the organized are and it's a really good cause and every everyone who plays
- 1:03the show really gets behind it for that. For that reason, basically,
- 1:07what does it actually mean to you personally to be involved with something like that?
- 1:14Uh? You know, everyone you know in the in the this is
- 1:17the band to be in if you struggle a bit with mental health. Personally,
- 1:21I'm autistic and ADHD, so you know, it's it's close to my
- 1:25heart and I would sort of work in that field as well for advocacy for
- 1:29that kind of stuff. But uh, mental health in general, I mean
- 1:34it's really cool, how you know, since I was a kid, I've
- 1:37seen the conversation change and become more open and just you know, people people
- 1:42are okay we're talking about now. I remember when I was a kid,
- 1:45people questioning whether or not depression even existed as a thing, you know.
- 1:49So seeing you know, a nice big festival like that really just raising money
- 1:55towards awareness and researches is pretty awesome. Very different from when I was a
- 1:59kid. Definitely. There's a ton of bands plan, including yourselves. There's
- 2:04Dream Colors, Black Whiskey, Go to the Other Tali Made, Rejects,
- 2:07Crave, just the name with you. But here you guys most looking forward
- 2:09to planing with and or seen on the day. Well we've kicked around with
- 2:15Dream Kills a bit. They were you know, they were blasting out of
- 2:16my bedroom when I was a teenager. Uh, And it's been nice sort
- 2:22of being able to being able to play with them. You know, I've
- 2:25heard really good things about Hippo. I can't wait to see them. Crave
- 2:30we played around with quite a bit as well, So it's really sort of
- 2:32that family vibe there too. The bands who play their attended wanted to support
- 2:38that that gig ongoing, so it's kind of a little bit like a family
- 2:42readion. Each year when we go back there, it's really keen to see
- 2:46Tali made rejects. I find rejects just always bring it and always quite surprised
- 2:53with their set. Very upbeat and yeah, really cool. Yeah, they
- 2:57are at a bit of interesting trivitae for it, Like dream Killers are actually
- 3:01the first band I ever saw alive back in the day, Like I used
- 3:05to go to school with their regial drama at a place called Lowoods Wonder's Day.
- 3:09Yeah right, history with all of us. Yeah, first time I
- 3:13saw them was when I was fifteen at a local community hall in Logan somewhere.
- 3:20It was Yeah, it was, it was a bit life changing.
- 3:23Yeah, should share of course, Like events like this aren't totally fun driven
- 3:29of course either, Like I think the awareness generated it's just as important sometimes
- 3:34as a money raised in it. Yeah, yeah, I think so.
- 3:39Again, like I said, I'm beginning to the advocacy side of mental health
- 3:44and even to my own embarrassment, sometimes I'm quite open about it. But
- 3:47I really think that that that open conversation, you know what I know from
- 3:52people who approached me about being open about it with their own issues, it's
- 3:58yeah, it's huge. Awareness is almost well not as huge, but almost
- 4:01as huge as raising funds for actual research and support and whatnot. I think
- 4:06it's like it's a Miskiing steption too that people look at museos and they're up
- 4:11there on stage, you know, like they look like they haven't got a
- 4:14care in the world. But it's surprising the amount of even like pop international
- 4:16musicos I speak with that suffer from depression or anxiety or or mental health.
- 4:21Like it's it's important to note that just because someone's up there and they look
- 4:26like they're okay, it doesn't necessarily mean that's what's going on inside. Absolutely.
- 4:31Yeah, yeah, it's it's totally true. And I think probably more
- 4:38people than than not having issues with lenohol from time to time, and it's
- 4:43something that everyone's dealing with. So I look, you know, as a
- 4:48musician, musician, you're up on stage and that's you know, probably it's
- 4:53your time to shine up up in the lights and everything that. There's so
- 4:56much that goes on behind the scenes, and there's some much hard work that
- 5:00everyone puts in. It's really challenging, and so much else in life that
- 5:04everyone's balancing as well. Yeah, So before that, you guys have got
- 5:10shows in Redcliffe, Brisbanewich on August thirty first, September first, and September
- 5:15two with your good mates for us who have come all the way down from
- 5:17Cans Like, how do you know those guys? Well, we've known them
- 5:23for quite a while. They've helped us out with a couple of tours up
- 5:27to North Queensland. We played quite a lot of shows with them up and
- 5:30down the coast. We just get along really well. They come down here
- 5:34and hang out, we go up there and hang out and it's just a
- 5:38really good time. We find our bands compliment each other really well too,
- 5:42and they're just good dudes and we just love them music and that's really probably
- 5:46all there is to it. Yeah, I remember them and Exotic Potion Cookies
- 5:51are also coming down with them. Before we first went up to Funnel,
- 5:55Queensland as was hitting me up like I've checked out these bands and you've got
- 6:00have a listen, and and we did. We had a couple of beers
- 6:02and had listened to them, and yeah, we just dug them immediately and
- 6:05then we met them. Both bands we just you know, just clicked with
- 6:09them right away. You tend to find with bands you either click straight away
- 6:15or it's a bit hard. And with those two bands, it's just been
- 6:18really easy to get along and just it's not work, you know, it's
- 6:23it's really just we have great times. Yeah, of course, just like
- 6:29getting paid hopefully to hang out with our basically, and you could probably do
- 6:36a bit of band stopping as well, like Kevin and Pete from Borre's like
- 6:42pretty much a twins, like he's ever sort of jump up and take each
- 6:45other's place on stage and if anyone notices, we've yet to sing together,
- 6:49but I did definitely jump up one stage with them at least once for a
- 6:54photo up and would like to uh take take photos together and play on that
- 7:00with our socials. Think who's taller me actually, which is which is not
- 7:10common, but I get to be the taller one in that situation. I
- 7:15think there'd only be a hair in it. Well, well, no,
- 7:20maybe no hair in it. Maybe a beard here, a PBK here.
- 7:30How do those three gigs that you're playing one of them the Thursday night on
- 7:32August the thirty first? Is it a place in Redcliffe called Tribe Clubhouse,
- 7:36which it's only a bit of a new like music venue, so we're trying
- 7:40to get more people down there. But tell us a bit about that for
- 7:42people in the area that I haven't heard of it, Well, I just
- 7:46I just had a little sea change and moved to Redcliffe from after living in
- 7:50a city for years and years and years, and it took a little adjustment.
- 7:57But the whole point of Tribe is it's a social place. It's a
- 8:01place for people to be social they've been feeling a little isolate or whatever.
- 8:05And most of the time it's not like a nighttime bar live music venue,
- 8:09but they do that on on weekends and some other nights, you know,
- 8:13like the Thursday night next week, and it's just it's all about social belonging.
- 8:18And the guy who found that it wanted that he unfortunately lost his son
- 8:22years ago and needed to feel a part of the community and meet friends,
- 8:28and you know, all the people I met there, they really value that
- 8:31place, and so it's it's a little bit more than just your average venue.
- 8:35It's it's a it's a really cool community up there. Yeah, I
- 8:39was just gonna add it. He's really about the Redcliffe community. And we've
- 8:45done one show there before with Violet for the Grunge Tour, and we just
- 8:48really just really jelled with that idea. You know that it's very community focus,
- 8:54very supportive of the local people in the community, and and just that
- 9:00rung true with us. They're just really nice people. It's run really well.
- 9:03It's a nice small little venue and we just love doing those sorts of
- 9:07shows. So it's a no brainer for us and probably worth pointing it out
- 9:11to its all ages. If anyone wants to bring their kids, we've got
- 9:15a couple of fans coming along with their kids. Very good. September thirty,
- 9:20you guys have got another benefit get when you played high pickspreadic cancer research
- 9:24fundraisers, So tell us a bit about that as could probably feel in a
- 9:30little better on that. The history there. Yeah, so we we know
- 9:35the Glacierenes really well, we're good friends. We went on a tour with
- 9:39them recently up from down the East Coast and you know New Naith a little
- 9:48bit and just the again the cause of cancer research, she's really important.
- 9:56And yeah, I mean again, that's just it's it's just something that we
- 10:03wanted to get involved with and and just to help out. And well I
- 10:09think keV you and I went along last year and just to see, you
- 10:13know, the event and and just the just just the vibe and you know
- 10:20how hell well yeah, they amount of love. That's that's really what I'm
- 10:24thinking of there. And we got asked to get involved and we just of
- 10:28court said yes, it's I'm just such an important thing. So yeah,
- 10:35I've actually got to say kolos to you guys too, like there's you guys
- 10:37play a lot of charity or benefited through a whole whole host of different things.
- 10:43Guys. Yeah, you guys always put your hands up and he's always
- 10:45there. So I've got to say that it's good to see mate. It's
- 10:48it's it's noticed by a lot of people in the community guys. And he's
- 10:50do you do you bid? Well, yeah, thanks, we we we
- 10:56we don't you know, we don't want to, you know, we're not
- 10:58reading machine, we're not the sex persons. But but what we care about
- 11:03a lot of things. I mean, we want to be seen to care
- 11:05about the things and publicly support those things, and that is a large part
- 11:09of our identity as individual people and which kind of makes it part of our
- 11:13identity as a band. We really want to get behind good causes and promote
- 11:20awareness and stuff with anything that we feel is worth it. Gotta fire pretty
- 11:26much been sure and ever since you released your debut album Chill in March of
- 11:30last year, and if you maybe but he brends along the way he used
- 11:31have been been everywhere. Yeah, well, actually we released it. It
- 11:37was September twenty one. It's so it's so weird because it all the years
- 11:43have melded in together. They were across that time, and we actually did
- 11:48that show. Our launch show was with six Foot Hit and that was just
- 11:52such an amazing show. And yeah, it's only two years ago and we've
- 11:56just because of all the cancelations and challenge and dramas, we've just gone,
- 12:01let's just keep throwing this thing. And we never could do a proper full
- 12:05East coast tours, so that's why we did that early this year because we
- 12:09could finally do one and now it's like it's time to put it to bed.
- 12:13It's it's now we're working on the new one. So we've got a
- 12:16lot of new songs written. I think we're up to about probably about six
- 12:20or seven completed and probably about another ten ideas, and so we want to
- 12:24get in and do that as soon as possible next year. Before we get
- 12:30on to talk about the new stuff, I just want to bring up like
- 12:31for those who haven't seen the album, like it predominantly features a massive fucking
- 12:37chicken on the cover, Like I reckon you guys, Like marketing coup of
- 12:39the year, Like it was a great strategy. It's like was it was
- 12:43it something that he's sat out and thought about it and intended to be a
- 12:48marketing tour money just like it just kind of came about it. Yeah,
- 12:54I think it's been around for a while and actually it's the It's the Doom.
- 13:01But the idea had been floating for a bit and we had a few
- 13:05people can't have a bit of a go at it, and then we had
- 13:09a friend of ours, Kira, he turned it into what it is,
- 13:15and then it just stuck and we were just so happy with it. We
- 13:18were like, was put it on the album on a white clayin white black
- 13:20background, you know, and everything. It's been great. A little bit
- 13:26of a story for you. When we were originally trying to think of a
- 13:28logo, we were very unimaginative, and this guy that our bass player and
- 13:33you kind of came up with this very simple three prong thing that was like
- 13:37a gutter with fire in it. And then I can't remember who it was,
- 13:41if it was you as or Clay who like someone turned it upside down
- 13:46and we're like, oh, it looks like a rooster, like a doom
- 13:50cock, and oh yeah, and so then we was a little bit and
- 13:54it was like this very basic, sort of simple version of of of like
- 13:58the rooster. But then yeah, when we gave that idea the Cura,
- 14:01she just went, yeah, I really I really don't think it was anything
- 14:07until we gave it to Cia, to be honest, that was really but
- 14:11life from there. Yeah, the idea of Doom kind of just came by
- 14:16turning a very unimaginative logo idea upside down literally and developing it from there.
- 14:24There's a whole animal cover theme something you're going to keep exploring as you go
- 14:28down. You got to come up with something different, bus one. Who
- 14:31knows? We we really get to work that one out. So I have
- 14:35a feeling there could be a change. We might might kill off the Doom
- 14:39cop, but who knows, who knows bringing the doom Crab or the doom
- 14:43Squirrel or you. So that you've you've finished about seven songs towards the next
- 14:50album yet, So those songs that you've finished, what direction are they taking?
- 14:54Is it the same sort of stuffs was on Chill or is you know
- 14:58you found a bit of a different sound with all your showing and stuff.
- 15:01Yeah, it's funny, We're We're sorry. We all have different ideas and
- 15:07different opinions, and sometimes we're thinking completely different things about the same thing,
- 15:13but we're all on the same page. It's it's strange how it works.
- 15:18So like we might give different opinions on where we think it's headed, but
- 15:22it's we all kind of we're all on the same page with where it is
- 15:26headed whatever we think of that, if that makes any sense, really,
- 15:28But okay, I was really I was just going to add, really it's
- 15:33an evolution of our sound. I think I think we're really moving into it's
- 15:39it's it's got those similar themes of the doomy kind of rock, the desert
- 15:43rock sort of stuff, bit of heavier side, but but it's like we're
- 15:46taking it forward to a new level and the songs are a lot better,
- 15:50and I think we're more mature. I think we know each other better as
- 15:54players, and we just we know what each other adds, so we we're
- 15:58writing to get the best stout of each other, I think. And one
- 16:02of the things we've always done in this band is everybody writes and contributes something.
- 16:07So we do have some more predominant writers, but everybody writes, and
- 16:11I think that's really important and and it's it keeps those creative juices going.
- 16:15And then we we you know, picked the best songs at the end of
- 16:19the day, the best songs that sued each other on the record. So
- 16:22that's what we'll be doing again. And I think, you know, I've
- 16:27said before with this album. You know, the first album was a little
- 16:32more diverse, and we were just sort of throwing stuff at the wall to
- 16:34see to figure ourselves out. Now that we have, we've got managed to
- 16:40go more extreme in every direction, but make it sound more cohesive, which
- 16:45probably sounds counterintuitive, but it sounds more like us. We've figured out who
- 16:49we are, even though it's more punk and it's more doom, and it's
- 16:53more you know, like we've we've I don't know, we've figured out how
- 16:56to tie all those ends together in a more cohesive package. And you're going
- 17:03to lightnuts? Is better? Are you going to start slowly introducing them into
- 17:07the set list and see if people notice and see what people think of it?
- 17:15Yeah, I mean, you know, the whole COVID situation, particularly
- 17:21going back to twenty twenty with the lockdowns, we were lucky enough to keep
- 17:25really writing through that period, whereas a lot of bands kind of shut up
- 17:27shot We just kept writing. So we actually have been introducing songs slightly into
- 17:33the set bit by bit. But you know, at the moment, gosh,
- 17:38I don't know, we've probably got three or four of those new songs
- 17:42in the set, so and we've got another new one that's being introduced for
- 17:45next week shows. That's that's much more recent, clearly. Yeah, In
- 17:52terms of songs that aren't on the first album, there's four or five in
- 17:55the set that we're about to play for these these next shows. Awesome guys.
- 18:00Before we let you go off, started three new Spotify playlists made up
- 18:04of songs from people that I speak to so usingly your own songs, you
- 18:08mean, one for the playlists that gets you ready to party, one for
- 18:11the playlistic could save your marriage, and one for the playlistic would potentially end
- 18:15your marriage. Well, I might jump in first. I think one to
- 18:23get your partying is definitely this is fine, So I think that's my contribution
- 18:30to this one. I don't know if there's any very nice songs to help
- 18:37your marriage. I think, oh man, you know, Draws of the
- 18:45Universe at least would be one to dance at your wedding party too. It
- 18:52might not make you get married, but it'll get your dancing a few beers
- 18:56in the one that could potentially end your marriage, oh probably probably bonfire.
- 19:07Yeah, sure, I shall add those to the playlists tonight, guys are
- 19:15in the meantime, thanks very much for your time. Our whole ever shows
- 19:19coming up. If people want to find out about them, where do they
- 19:22go? Gotta Fire dot com. We're also on Facebook and Instagram and YouTube.
- 19:30Although you won't find any gig information there, but yeah, really,
- 19:34Facebook and our Instagram is the best place to keep up on it. Although
- 19:38we want to buy tickets, go to Go to fire dot com.
